CIET
 The Central Institute of Educational Technology
(acronym CIET) is an autonomous organization,
formed as a nodal agency under the National
Council of Educational Research and Training
(NCERT) for promoting the use of mass media
technology for expanding and improving the quality
of education at the school level. The Institute is
funded by the Ministry of Human Resources
Development, Government of India.
Origin of the Institute
 The Central Institute of Educational
Technology(CIET) was established in 1984 by the
Ministry of Human Resources Development of
Government of India, under the umbrella of the
National Council of Educational Research and
Training (NCERT). The Institute is located at NIE
Campus, NCERT in New Delhi, the capital of
India.
 The origin of the Institute was effected by merging
two departments of NCERT, Center for
Educational Technology and Department of
Teaching Aids, with an aim to make the new age
technologies in mass media available at the school
level. The activities of the Institute are centered on
the branches of media such as radio, television,
movies, satellite communications and cyber media.
 CIET is involved in various activities such as
design, development and dissemination of
alternative learning systems, promotion of
Educational Technology, training of personnel in
Educational Technology, coordination of activities
of its subsidiaries like the State Institutes of
Education Technology (SIET) and consultancy and
Roles of CIET
 To design and produce media software especially mass
media, radio and television: interactive multimedia and web
based learning resources utilizing ICT to enrich the
transactions of curricular activites at different levels of
school education.
 To optimize the utilization of edusat communication
technologies and terrestrial transmission on national
channels: doordarshan, gyan darshan and gyan vani.
 To explore and infuse the appropriate and critical use of
interactive digital content, web based communication and
participatory networks.
 Documentation of educational media programmes
and research for enhancing utilization.
 Dissemination of media programmes through the
distribution of acds,vcds,dvds, multimedia cds and
the web
 Organize capacity building programmes for teachers
and teacher-educators in concept and applications of
techniques and technologies for improving classroom
instruction and their management processes and siet
personnel in scripting, production of media reserches
and technical operations.

telecast/broadcast on DD-1, Gyan Vani, Gyan
Darshan channels and sales mechanism.
 Third party evaluation of ICT scheme in
schools of Karnataka state and UT-
Chandigarh

teachers.
 Develpoed national repository of Open
Educational Resources(NROER)
 Organized training programmes for
teachers and teacher educators of 15 states
through face to face and distance mode
 Organized All India Children’s Educational
Audio Vedio programmes, Contests and
National ICT Award for school teachers
Collaboration with international /
national organizations/ agencies, etc.
 IGNOU and Dooradarshan for telecast and
broadcast of audio/video programmes
 HBCSE – TIFR Mumbai for creation of NROER
 SIETs,Viyan Prasar, CCRT,IGNCA,SCERTs for
sharing of e-contents on NROER.
 CEMCA for development of QAMLM and
promote FOSS environment
 NIC for hoisting of website:
ncert.nic.in,ciet.nic.in,noror.gov.in,itschool
.gov.in
 The Institute is housed in a spacious building with
open courtyards, amphitheater, two television
studios, two sound studios, technical control
rooms, workshop, seminar rooms, rehearsal areas
and projection facilities, library, canteen,
administrative areas and artists' studios.
 The Institute also provides courses in education at
bachelors, masters and doctoral levels.
Functions of CIET
 To improve the quality in education.
 To design and develop alternative learning
system in the society.
 Designing alternative learning systems to deal
with problems of education.
 Orientation of educational planners,
administrators to the concept of educational
technology
 Training in specialized areas, radio, audio,
television and video production and low-
cost production and low –cost teaching
aids.
 Production of audio visual education
materials and other low-cost aids.
 Reserch and evaluaton to test and improve
systems, methods and materials.
 Extension services for supplying and
screening of educational films, video tapes
and audio tapes to Dooradarsan.
 Consultancy of educational technology and
distance education programmes.
 Working as co-ordinating agency with the
ministry of human resource development,
state and international organisations and
UN agencies.

 Ciet is engaged in the development of an
alternative system of education using
television through insat to reach in and out
of school children and teachers in rural
areas.
 The activity include planning the t.v
curriculum, training script writers,
producers, reserchers and technical
staff,production of educational
programmes and research.
 It produce ETV programmes and these
programmes are being telecast via INSAT. So
CIET has been playing a pivotal role in
implementing various innovative projects in
educational technology both at national
and state level
 It has to deal with pre-primary, primary.
Secondary and university education, open
uviversity education, containing education
adult education etc.

CIET  The Central Institute of Educational Technology (acronym CIET) is an autonomous organization, formed as a nodal agency under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for promoting the use of mass media technology for expanding and improving the quality of education at the school level. The Institute is funded by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.

Origin of the Institute  The Central Institute of Educational Technology(CIET) was established in 1984 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development of Government of India, under the umbrella of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The Institute is located at NIE Campus, NCERT in New Delhi, the capital of India.
  • 12.  The origin of the Institute was effected by merging two departments of NCERT, Center for Educational Technology and Department of Teaching Aids, with an aim to make the new age technologies in mass media available at the school level. The activities of the Institute are centered on the branches of media such as radio, television, movies, satellite communications and cyber media.  CIET is involved in various activities such as design, development and dissemination of alternative learning systems, promotion of Educational Technology, training of personnel in Educational Technology, coordination of activities of its subsidiaries like the State Institutes of Education Technology (SIET) and consultancy and

Roles of CIET  To design and produce media software especially mass media, radio and television: interactive multimedia and web based learning resources utilizing ICT to enrich the transactions of curricular activites at different levels of school education.  To optimize the utilization of edusat communication technologies and terrestrial transmission on national channels: doordarshan, gyan darshan and gyan vani.  To explore and infuse the appropriate and critical use of interactive digital content, web based communication and participatory networks.
  • 14.  Documentation of educational media programmes and research for enhancing utilization.  Dissemination of media programmes through the distribution of acds,vcds,dvds, multimedia cds and the web  Organize capacity building programmes for teachers and teacher-educators in concept and applications of techniques and technologies for improving classroom instruction and their management processes and siet personnel in scripting, production of media reserches and technical operations.

Collaboration with international / national organizations/ agencies, etc.  IGNOU and Dooradarshan for telecast and broadcast of audio/video programmes  HBCSE – TIFR Mumbai for creation of NROER  SIETs,Viyan Prasar, CCRT,IGNCA,SCERTs for sharing of e-contents on NROER.  CEMCA for development of QAMLM and promote FOSS environment

  • 22.  The Institute is housed in a spacious building with open courtyards, amphitheater, two television studios, two sound studios, technical control rooms, workshop, seminar rooms, rehearsal areas and projection facilities, library, canteen, administrative areas and artists' studios.  The Institute also provides courses in education at bachelors, masters and doctoral levels.

  • 24.  Training in specialized areas, radio, audio, television and video production and low- cost production and low –cost teaching aids.  Production of audio visual education materials and other low-cost aids.  Reserch and evaluaton to test and improve systems, methods and materials.
  • 25.  Extension services for supplying and screening of educational films, video tapes and audio tapes to Dooradarsan.  Consultancy of educational technology and distance education programmes.  Working as co-ordinating agency with the ministry of human resource development, state and international organisations and UN agencies.

Ciet…..  Ciet is engaged in the development of an alternative system of education using television through insat to reach in and out of school children and teachers in rural areas.  The activity include planning the t.v curriculum, training script writers, producers, reserchers and technical staff,production of educational programmes and research.
  • 27.  It produce ETV programmes and these programmes are being telecast via INSAT. So CIET has been playing a pivotal role in implementing various innovative projects in educational technology both at national and state level  It has to deal with pre-primary, primary. Secondary and university education, open uviversity education, containing education adult education etc.
