The State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) in Kerala is responsible for planning, producing, and evaluating educational software, videos, audio programs, and multimedia for students from classes 1 to 12. SIET Kerala implements schemes to modernize teaching technologies and the learning process. It aims to play a catalytic role in supporting educational development in the state, particularly for secondary and higher secondary education. Some of SIET Kerala's initiatives include educational TV programs, film festivals, and producing over 900 educational CDs in English and Malayalam.

2. SIET
SIET Kerala , the State Institute of
Educational Technology is responsible for the
planning, research, production and evaluation
of educational software's like video, audio
programmes and computer multimedia. SIET
Kerala also aims to implement schemes to
generate teaching technologies and learning
process in the modern context.

3. SIET Kerala is the latest in the array of 7
SIET's in the country. Department of
Education, Ministry of Human Resource
Development, Government of India sanctioned
the State Institute of Educational Technology
for Kerala in 1998.

4. The Institute has adopted itself to play a
catalytic role in fostering as well as supporting
and supplementing the educational movement in
the state particularly in the area of secondary
and higher secondary education. Its area of
operation covers the preparation of video/audio
programmes for the children of 5 to 17 years of
age (Class I to Class 12) and the teachers in the
regional language in the form of supportive
materials for the conventional class room
teaching.

6. The educational programmes
produced by the SIET have won
wide acclaim and appreciation
from the student-teacher- parent
community of the Kerala State.
At present the SIET telecasts educational programmes
through Doordershan from 6.30 Am to 7.00 Am in DDI
on a daily basis. SIET Kerala now also telecasting
educational programmes through the EDUSAT Channel
of the Dept. of Education, Govt. of Kerala from 7.00 am
to 11.00 p.m everyday.

7. EDUCATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Children's Film Festivals has a
comprehensive content that
will naturally cover core
academic topics and a verity
of subjects ranging from
adulteration and pollution to
issues more relevant to the
young world like child labor, problems of the girl-child,
child-centered education and disability will also be dealt
with. Educators are increasingly, and ever more
effectively employing videos, films and animations to
expand the horizons of our emerging knowledge society.

8. CD LIBRARY PROJECT
SIET Kerala has produced
and marketed around 900
Educational CDs both in
English & Malayalam
language. SIET Kerala is
the biggest educational CD
production and making agency in India.
CD Library Project :- The SIET has
implemented CD Library project in 3500 LP
Schools, 2900 UP Schools, 1800 High
Schools and 1247 Higher Secondary Schools.

9. Production of Educational / Enrichment
programmes for Telecast / Broadcast through TV /
Radio and communication through CD/DVD.
Designing and production of teaching Aids.
Conduct research and evaluation of new media
education materials.
Assist schools to set up infrastructure to schools and
monitoring their utilization activities.
Research and develop learning materials for blind
students.

10. Successfully implemented the CD Library project in
1000 Higher Secondary schools, 2500 High Schools,
3200 primary schools in the State of Kerala.
Successfully implemented a full –fledged e-
learning project in 6800 schools in the state of
Kerala.
In the year 2006 the M.M. Panth commission
constituted by the MHRD, Govt. of India after
evaluating the performance of all the SIETs in India
selected Kerala SIET as an excellent model and
directed all the SIETs in India to follow the “KERALA
MODEL” in the field of e-learning system.

13. The State Institute of Educational
Technology (SIET) gets guidance from CIET
for building, equipment, manpower,
management, training and production. They
generally involve school teachers in planning
and producing ETV programmes. The state
Institute of Educational Technologies now
established under the programme of action of
National Education Policy.
