Why Coding Should Be Mandatory In Public Education
Coding Should Be Mandatory in Public Education
As robotics continues to integrate with current occupations, an increasing amount of industries are
experiencing demand for computer programming or coding skills. Robots are becoming prevalent
in numerous industries across the globe,
Allen 4 consuming a myriad of once uniquely human jobs (Johnson). Businesses and industries are
implementing robotics and coding more extensively in this digital era. Therefore, computer science
and, in particular, coding should be mandatory curricula in public education that will future proof
students for job acquisition and enhance primary language literacy.

in Raja 614). This supports the idea that as robot implementation meets human innovation, people
naturally change those aspects of their lives, which may mean a need for greater emphasis on CS
education. Robots will continue to consume once primarily human jobs, creating a more vastly
integrated workforce. Students today will work alongside these robots and/or be the ones coding
them in the future (Wohl). Thus, it is becoming more necessary to educate students starting at an
elementary level to be technologically literate by not just interfacing with computers and robots, but
understanding them and speaking their language a skill with a growing demand (Raja
610).
Coding is becoming an essential skill in the job market allowing workers to adapt to the integrated
human robot workforce; therefore, it is imperative that CS and coding education be mandatory and
begin early. There is currently robotic disruption in many sectors like education, energy, health, and
transportation. For example, companies have begun designing robots to aid special education
students, and much like automobiles, robots have been implemented in solar panel production
decreasing costs and increasing precision (Johnson). Chase Johnson reports in his article, Robotic
Integration Into Our Daily Lives: Now and the Future, that hospitals are also using robots to
transport medical

Federal Emergency Management Agency Analysis
President Carter established Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with the
Reorganization Plan Number 3 of 1978, giving it free range of functions, as well as emergency
preparedness, civil defense, disaster relief, emergency communications, flood and crime insurance,
fire prevention, and steadiness of government (Rubin, 2012). The agency was established in April 1,
1979, with four mechanisms such as the Federal Disaster Assistance Administration and the Federal
Insurance Administration, the Defense Civil Preparedness Agency, and the U.S. Fire
Administration (Rubin, 2012). FEMA mandates local governments to established effective
floodplain managementprocedures, and USACE considers different tactics on several structural

The Empty Bowls Make-A-Thon
Bowl Making In November, I attended the Empty Bowls Make a Thon where I, along with
others from the college, made a bowl from clay. The finished bowls will be sold at a benefit
dinner where diners will pay for a meal and keep the bowl. All of the proceeds from the dinner
will benefit the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Empty bowls is an international fundraiser
to help fight hunger. Artists make bowls to donate to community organizations and the bowls
are sold to raise money. Not only did I have a new experience while creating my bowl, I was also
able to help someone in need. Shapiro believes a liberal education is beneficial for an individual
and for a community. Social and cultural experiences ought to give meaning to both individual and
community lives. By participating in the Empty Bowls Make a Thon, I was able to improve both
myself and my community. Liberal education encourages improving and broadening one s
experiences, which I was able to do within Westminster College. In a way, the bowl making also
relates to The Good Samaritan. In the story, a Samaritan happens upon an injured stranger and
decides to take the time and help him. While it may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People of the Book is full of art when referring to the Haggadah. The intricate drawings, the silver
clasps, and the calligraphy are all art that went into the development of the Haggadah. While the
medium of art I worked with and the mediums of art from the Haggadah vary, they both offer
visuals to those who are looking. Also, many of the characters in People of the Book are artists.
Without the artist characters from the novel, the Haggadah would not have been created. Florien

intricacy of the Haggadah. While I am not an artist of their caliber, I gained a better understanding

A Study Of Computer System
Nowadays, computer is able to help in a wide range. Such as Economics, Physics, etc. Since 1987,
a study of computer system to support clinical decision making has been proposed by Edward H.
Shortliffe[5], with the rapid development of computer science, this approach is applied more and
more often and not only in clinical situation. As a tool, computersystem could be used to collect
data, make statistics and calculation with no problem. According to Sprague study, Decision
Support System has been defined[6]пјЊ Decision Support system aims to gathering and store the
knowledge based data, in the meantime, suitable for different environment users. This could be

C.Limitation of Traditional Decision Making Steps
Computer System has the ability to help Decision Making. However, Belton stated that Decision
Making Software could be able to support decision making, but software cannot replace decision
making since it does not have the driving force[7]. This is also the limitation of computer system
due to the nature of binary system. Software engineer is required to apply strict logic when they
programming.
Fuzzy Logic becomes popular in programming in order to help computer system to solve more
complexity problem for accurate result. Fuzzy Logic has been applied on Decision Making
Software already, but it has limitations such as decision maker can only gathering small amount of
information at one time[8].
Decision Making Software provides alternatives after users input the relevant information, but it
assumes that people already have the clear aim. However, people also face problems with single
goals and multiple goals[9], complicate think troubles users from the start of the traditional steps.
In the meantime, the factors consideration is limited due to the lack of background knowledge

Winston Churchill
Do you ever wonder who led Great Britain through World War II? Well, his name is Winston
Churchill. Winston Churchill entered the Royal Military College of Sandhurst, and graduated with
honors in December of 1894. After being elected to Parliament at age twenty five, he went on to be
First Lord of the Admiralty, Minister of Munitions, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Prime
Minster. Historians widely attribute Churchill with being the greatest statesman of the 20th century.
He is also considered to be one of the greatest leaders of Great Britain ever. During World War II,
Winston Churchill was an excellent Prime Minister. He founded a strong relationship with U.S. ...

To prove this, he tirelessly travelled to military positions and installations. Once there, he would
conduct inspections, boost morale, and support commanders. He was a very passionate leader. Sir
Martin Gilbert wrote, It was Churchill s own opposition to all forms of defeatism that marked out
the first six months of his war premiership and establish the nature and pattern of his war
leadership. [3]
In conclusion, Winston Churchill was a remarkably humble man. He always refused to take the
credit he deserved for his leadership. When cheered at the demise of Nazi Germany, he responded, I
have never accepted what many people have kindly said, namely that I inspired the nation. It was
a nation and race dwelling all round that had the lion heart. I had the luck to be called upon to give
the roar. [4] He was the lion who roared when the British Empire needed him most.

Doubt And Uncertainty In Macbeth
In this essay, I will be comparing the running theme of doubt and uncertainty between Macbeth
and other poems which we have studied. There are three main characters that I will be focusing
on. Firstly, Macbeth is the protagonist in the play Macbeth written by Shakespeare. Macbeth was
originally a soldier in the beginning battle when the Norwegians attempt to invade Scotland, which
shows him as patriotic and loyal to his country and king. He was also the Thane of Glamis, of
Scotland, meaning that he was trusted to look after land. He is married to his wife, Lady Macbeth,
who also plays a large role in the play.
Secondly, Ulysses is the character which the poem Ulysses written by Tennyson was based on, as it
is a dramatic monologue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it is a long monologue, based on Ulysses decision to leave his responsibilities in Ithaca, it
includes many doubts and uncertainties. Since he has to deal with his desire to travel, the main
doubt shown is whether to stay at home with his kingdom and family, or shall he leave again.
Continuing on from this, Ulysses may doubt whether returning home after his first journey was
the right thing for him to do. This can be shown as he devotes the beginning 26 lines to detailing
his dissatisfaction and discontent of spending his last years doing nothing. A quote to support
this is I cannot rest from travel line 6 which implies his boredom and that he wants to get the
most out of life; meaning travelling. Ulysses is also uncertain about his relationship with his
son, Telemachus. Even though he respects him and wishes him to be king; to whom I leave the
sceptre and the isle , Ulysses doesn t believe that he has a bond with his son. Perhaps this is
because of the first 20 years of his son s life he has missed, due to the Trojan War; or it could just
be that Ulysses has spent the majority of his time moping, rather than spending time with him. This
can be shown in the quote He works his, I mine which immediately splits the

Athletics And Persons With Disabilities
Athletics and Persons with Disabilities It wasn t that long ago when the words athletics and
persons with disabilities did not belong together. If a person was born with a physical or
intellectual disability, sports fell into the group of activities that were excluded from their life. If
an athlete acquired a physical or intellectual disability, sports became an activity they could no
longer participate in. Sports and athletic pursuits belonged solely to non disabled persons.
Persons with disabilities could only watch from the sidelines. Our society did not encourage or
support any physical sports programs that allowed persons with disabilities to pursue their athletic
dreams. Slowly, a cultural shift has altered our perception of what is possible for persons with
disabilities. Part of this shift can be attributed to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960 s. Once
the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, the walls of discrimination and segregation began to
crumble. Although the Civil Rights Act initially sought to ensure equality for African Americans
and other people of color, it eventually expanded to protect other vulnerable classes in our society.1
A piece of legislation that has contributed greatly to the rights of those with disabilities is the
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This legislation is considered as far reaching and
important as the Civil Rights Act. The core of the legislation focuses on prohibiting discrimination
against persons

reasons behind why addiction are growing, and where they stemmed from, today s society has

Since there are no programs offered for children of a young age who have already begun
drinking to seek help it allows the problem to grow instead of getting to it when it is still fresh
and not yet a full blown addiction. Although many services do not offer help to those who are
disabled. Addiction services are generally offered only in English, which poses a problem for
those who have immigrated to Canada or simply have grown up speaking a different language. The
hours for addiction centers is limited, unless it is a housing service, most programs run on the nine
to five clock, enabling those who seek help after hours from getting the service that is required by
them.

A Very Brief Look at Worl War II
World War II started on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. France and Great
Britain declared war on Germany September 3rd. After France and Great Britain declared war on
Germany they mobilized their armies and stationed their troops. Waiting for Germany to attack,
but they never did. This eventually became known as the Phony War. By the end of May in
1940 the Germans had trapped all of the allied forces around a northern French city. Allies went
to the beaches at Dunkirk because they were outnumbered, and outgunned. Great Britain set out
to rescue the army, by sending about 850 ships across the English channel to Dunkirk. They sent
many other things in the rescue effort. After Dunkirk resistance in France started to collapse,
and by June 14, the Germans took Paris. French leaders surrendered on June 22, 1940. During
the summer of 1940 Germany s air force started bombing Great Britain. The Germans started by
attacking British airfields and aircraft factories. On September 7, 1940 the Germans started
focusing more on the cities so that they could break British morale. The Battle of Britain
stopped on May 10, 1941 because Hitler decided to call off his attacks and focus on the
Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. The allies learned from the Battle of Britain that Hitler s
attacks could be avoided. Italy was neutral at the beginning of the war, and Hitler s partner
Mussolini, knew he had to take action and after Germany declared war on France and

he is supposedly living for the people , he puts into practice a plan of taking hostages from

believes that the church is corrupt. He believes in radical social reform. He is capable of acts of
some kinds of kindness, as when he gives bail to the priest to get him out of jail. (Greene) At the
end of the novel, the lieutenant admits he has nothing against the priest as a man, but he must be

the state of the church s presence. Yet, in the last part of the novel, another Jesuit priest arrives in
the town. This could be a hint from the author that the church will never be completely demolished
and God could protect his people.

Rwanda Genocide Essay
Imagine living a life of fear, turmoil, with death all around. Hearing gun shots being fired, death
chants, machete use, dead bodies everywhere. Afraid to close your eyes at night to rest, yet more
afraid to wake up in the morning. To sustain your life and the life of your loved ones you must
hide out, kill others, watch your neighbors be killed at the hands of the enemy. Knowing if you
are caught you could be forced to murder your own family, be raped, be held captive, be starved to
death, and most likely be killed. In 1994, this was the life many faced in Rwanda. Rwanda has
become a synonym for one of the worst genocides of the 20th century (Lemarchand, (n.d.), p. 483).
Rwanda is a small country located near the center of Africa. Kigali is the capital which is located

eggshells.
Introduction
To avoid the breakage of eggs before reaching market, the eggshells needs to be as strong as
possible. The strength of eggshells is mainly determined by the percentage of calcium carbonate in
it. In order to monitor the quality of eggshells, the following experiment has to be done to
determine the percentage of calcium carbonate in eggshells.
In this experiment, back titration is used. First, excess acid is reacted with the calcium carbonate in
eggshells:

Trading On Heterosexuality Analysis
Through the use of interviews and ethnographic data on a college party dorm at a large Midwestern
university, Laura Hamilton s article( Trading on Heterosexuality: College Women s Gender
Strategies and Homophobia ) refutes the idea that women are not homophobic. Hamilton s research
demonstrates that heterosexual women intentionally distance themselves from lesbians, in an
attempt to increase their status in the erotic marketplace. The party scene /erotic marketplace
encourages women to dress and act in ways that garner maleattention(e.g., flirting with men for
alcohol and dressing scantily). The more involved the women were in the party scene(and thus
more engaged in the marketplace), the more likely they were to exclude lesbians. I have

Legislation and the Teaching Occupation Essay
Legislation and the Teaching Occupation
Legislation affects all aspects of the educational environment. Legislation controls teaching
credentials, funds allotted for teaching supplies, general public school operation, and curriculum. In
turn, the educational environment affects the capabilities of a teacher. Senatorsand assembly
members have made numerous amendments over time to the laws that they have created. Such
changes greatly shape the abilities of teachers to teach their students.
Teachers must first obtain teaching credentials that relate within their field of experience.

There are several legislation that relate with obtaining teacher credentials. According to AB 1282,

that affirmative action gives colleges the authority to use racial preferences when selecting

Living Behind The Veil In Saudi Arabia
A veil is a piece of sheer material worn by women to conceal their faces, that very piece of
material symbolizes sacredness. In traditional Christian religion the veil is worn by the bride in
white on her wedding day as she approaches her groom at the alter. He uncovers her face at the
end of the ceremony and they kiss. Once that tradition is done the bride and the groom live their
lives together without her ever having to wear the veil again. However, In the Muslimreligion
predominantly in Saudi Arabiathe veil is also considered sacred, but used for different purposes.
For the women of Saudi Arabia wearing the veil is part of their everyday life. In fact it is
forbidden for them not to wear it, their veil is worn routinely. The women of Saudi should know
that living behind the veil is a form of abuse toward them. A life in front of the veil is more
enjoyable and liberating. Just because they walk in the street without their veil does not make
them promiscuous nor should they be punished for it. Living behind the veil may be all the
women of Saudi Arabia know, some may be comfortable with it, others afraid of the
consequences they will face for not wearing it. Either way they do not have much of a choice

American Football Players Analysis
Starting Safely: Positions in American Football Positions are important in every aspect of life,
from lying in bed to driving a car. Where one being is in relation to another is extremely vital to
the well being and safety of those involved. In What is the Safest Sprint Starting Position for
American FootballPlayers?, an expository text about a scientific experiment, authors Bruno
Bonnechere, Benoit Beyer, Marcel Rooze, and Jan Serge Van Sint claim that they have isolated the
correct position American footballplayers should use when playing. This optimal position is the one
most likely to protect the players and prevent any severe head injuries from occurring on the field.
In the beginning of this article, the authors discuss the current dangers facing many football players
of concussions and long term effects of injuries to the head and neck. Due to these major risks, an
experiment was conducted with both football players and non players to determine the best starting
position to lower the potential damage from collisions. These athletes participated in many study

This position is widely used, regardless of how risky it is for the players involved. However,
there is no perfect solution; there s only a better one. The experiment showed that it is difficult to

Book Review Of Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
The Omnivore s Dilemma by Michael Pollan was written to oppose the common
misunderstanding of Americans as a whole on what we should eat when options are so plentiful.
The book begins by asking a straightforward rhetorical question projected to make the reader
think on a more personal level how they would answer this. Pollan asks, What should we have for
dinner? , Then goes on to elaborate just how difficlut the answer is. Pollan breaks down the book
into three main sections being Industrial Corn , Pastoral Grass , and The Forest . Within each
section he goes on 4 different eatingadventures. Throughout each section he does an excellent job
going into great detail to convince the omnivores of America that ultimately we need to have a...

The Impact Of Diversified Workforce And How Management...
Abstract
The hospitality industry around the globe is characterized by the existence of diversified
workforce. As a result, it requires highly skilled Human Resource Management (HRM). The
research paper here tries to acknowledge the impact of diversified workforce and how management
handles their employees from different cultural backgrounds. The paper gives a brief background
of the story, followed by an extensive literature review. The literature review section focuses on
various theories and models of eminent authors and research scholars. The theories aim at providing
knowledge regarding the benefits, challenges and opportunities of having a diversified culture in the
organizations. While some authors emphasize on adopting diversification in the companies, others
point out the disadvantages related to having employees from different cultural backgrounds. They
also offer practical recommendations to the HR managers to help them successfully deal with the
cultural diversity issues. The main aim of the paper is to identify the research gap identified in the
literature review section. The research methodology applied here is based on secondary data
collection. Secondary data are such data which have been previously collected by some agency
for a purpose and are merely compiled from the original source for use in diverse connection. The
study has been assembled with the help of various journals, books, websites, etc. Theories have

The Strategies For Multinational Corporation
Three strategies for multinational corporation to react to disruptive innovation
Disruptive innovation(DI) impacts the world and propels society to develop marvelously,
Blackberries were replaced by smartphones, Amazon ships various things to doors, and more people
download books in an instant to Kindles instead of buying books (Gilmartin, 2015). These
disruptive innovation are challenging multinational corporations, and MNCs have to survive by
reacting strategically. This essay are composed by four parts, first part explains definition and
features of disruptive innovation, and the following part states the importance of disruptive
innovation. The third part concludes all the challenges caused by DI, including MNCs face DI in
every marketplace, DI is easy to be ignored, high cost of DI, and MNCs internal barriers of
leading DI. The last part criticises and states MNCs strategies to react to DI, including identifying
DI, articulating strategies to develop DI to satisfy mainstream, and taking advantages of
subsidiaries in developing countries to leading DI.
Disruptive innovation (DI) firstly defined by Bower and Christensen(1995) as a process by which a
new product created at the bottom of a market and then relentlessly moves up market, eventually
takes hold of existing market ultimately. According to the definition, disruptive innovation is more
threatening to dominant products and companies because it causes market disturbance and

Negroes Are Anti-White Analysis
The landlord tenant relationship between Blacks and Jews is one that most people are familiar
with when thinking about the two groups. In James Baldwin s Negroes Are Anti Semitic Because
They re Anti White he opens the article saying When we were growing up in Harlem our
demoralizing series of landlords were Jewish, and we hated them. We hated them because they
were terrible landlords, and did not take care of the building. This statement itself clearly shows the
relationship between Blacks and Jewsduring the time he was growing up in New York. He further
states Furthermore, the Jew can be proud of his suffering, or at least not ashamed of it. His history
and his suffering do not begin in America, where black men have been... Show more content on

The Jewish acceptance of their ability to fit into the white crowd became a huge problem for
blacks. Considering the history of blacks and the history of Jews, there are some commonalities.
First of all, would be that both groups are minorities. Second, both groups of people have been
victims of oppression throughout their existence. However, for those Jewish survivors of the
Holocaust, they were able to escape their sorrows and migrate to the United States for a better
life. For African Americans, this wasn t the case. Where were they to run to post slavery? They
were stuck in their place of misery that lasted for years and the only thing they could do was hope
for better days in the country that hurt their race. There were very different views on the idea of
whiteness . In Jane Anna Gordon s What Should Blacks Think When Jews Choose Whiteness? An
Ode to Baldwin, she states that Jews in the United States are seen by their black counterparts to
have opted to become white. Assuming that most blacks at the time were ignorant to the actual
history behind Jews, they felt like they were just choosing whiteness and genuinely wanted to
contribute to the oppression of blacks, leading to an increased amount of Anti Semitism due to anti
whiteness. In Karen Brodkin s How Jews Became

The Comparison And Contrast Of The 1905 And February...
The Comparison and Contrast of The 1905 and February Revolution There is a substantial
difference between the 1905 Russian Revolution and the February Russian Revolution. To begin
with, a revolution is defined as a major, sudden and therefore usually violent alteration in
government and in related associations and structures. The nature and origin of these two
revolutions were somewhat similar, but there were still many differences that outweighed the
similarities. The origins of the two revolutions differ. The 1905 revolution happened due to long
term discontent such as the dissatisfaction of peasants of workers following Witte s economic
policies of squeezing the peasants out of more money than anyone could afford, or the oppression
of intelligentsia that occured to stop the ideals of modernisation something the Tsar was not able to
adapt to. Also, the nationalism of minority groups submitted to Russification was growing. While

During the 1905 revolution, 400,000 peasants went on strike. The February revolution also had
the soldiers on its side one of the main reasons why the 1905 revolution was not a success, was
that soldiers were ordered to shoot at the civilians (such as during Bloody Sunday, the spark of
the 1905 revolution, during which shots were fired at peaceful protesters) while during the
February Revolution the soldiers refused to shoot at the protesting crowds and eventually joined
in the protests against the Tsar, whose support was fastly eroding. Officers were beaten up and
even killed and therefore Nicholas II lost control of the army. This is extremely significant as with
the soldiers battling against oppressive autocracy, there was a small line of defense for the Tsar and
opposition to the Revolution could be taken out easily (such as police). With the majority of people
against the Tsar, united in their battle, their chances of success

How Did The Influence Of Marx s Theory Of Modern Communism
Lenin was inspired by Karl Marx s theory of communism, which urges the workers of the world to
unite against their economic oppressors. The writings of Marx s theory of modern capitalism
influenced the events occurred in the early 1900s. The Communist Manifesto reflects an attempt to
explain the goals of communism, as well as the theory underlying this movement. The Manifesto
stated, Through most of the 20th century, the importance of the Communist Manifesto was
uncontested. It was important not because of its intrinsic merits, but because of the brute facts of
world politics (Marx). Also, The word communism first came into general use in France in the
early 1840s as a term to describe an ultra radical offshoot of the republican movement that had re

A more general world of Marx s importance as a sociological thinker became apparent in the 1890s

The Huns Dbq
The Huns, a nomadic people group, were first known to exist in the central Asian steppes. They
were also known as one of the greatest threats in the 5th century. The Huns were a significant part
of the start of the downfall of Rome. From a small group of barbaric warriors to one of the most
powerful kingdoms in the 5th century, the Hunsdevastated everything they attacked. But the
question remains, how did they do it? The Huns were so successful in conquering Europe and Asia
because of their great leader, unique fighting style, and the fear they struck into the hearts of their
enemies.

This perception may be true at times, but the Huns new exactly what they were good at and used
that to their advantage. The Huns were raised to be great warriors and hunters. They would

capabilities let the Huns use mobility as one of their main assets in battle. Even though some
Huns used other weapons such as swords, whips, and spears, the Huns preferred weapon was the
bow and arrow. Few Huns wore armor because armor was something a higher ranked official
would dress in. The combination of the bow with a skilled rider led to the Huns being a fierce
attack force. Their favorite battle style was a battle fought far away from the enemy. They could
be deadly with their bows from afar and then use their horses to keep the distance while still

Gender Discrimination in Boys and Girls by Alice Munro
Children are more prone to be obedient towards their parental figures (heteronomous obedience)
while growing up. In the short story Boys and Girls by Alice Munro, life during the twentieth
century is portrayed. The narrator, who has portrayed herself as a nameless young girl, struggles
for freedom from inequality in her society. The disobedience in Boys and Girls is clarified in Erich
Fromms essay, Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem (DPMP). The narrator of
Boys and Girls goes through different phases of obedience due to her authoritarian and humanistic
conscience (Fromm 10). Also, by being disobedient she has control of her own authorities.
Humanistic conscience stops her from doing something inhuman and or from being guilty; it s the
inner voice. As well as her comfort levels and the changes of her obedience impact her much to her
surprise. The young girlis well aware of what happens around her and is disobedient because of her
humanistic conscience , which has her in a battle against genderbinary and stereotypes.
The girl is young; she has no place to go, so therefore doesn t really have the option to disobey
her parents. The little girl is obedient to her parents when they are around. She does what she is
told to and helps her parents by doing some work at home. The girl helped her father [work

Social anxiety (or social phobia) is a disorder that...
Social anxiety (or social phobia) is a disorder that alienates people and causes them to avoid
social situations at all costs. It is described by the National Institute of Mental Health as a strong
fear of being judged by others and of being embarrassed (NIMH). This means that people with this
disorder have a fearof people s thoughts and as a result will try to isolate themselves from others.
Social anxietyhas a very large limit as to the things that can trigger it. It can go from the simplest
of things, such as simply buying an item to the extent of having to do a presentation in front of a
large crowd.
This disorder is also more common than one might think, the Anxiety and Depression Association of
America says that about 15 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results showed that half of youth identified themselves as shy but only 12 percent of shy
youth also met criteria for social phobia in their lifetime. The youths that did not describe
themselves as shy resulted in 5 percent that met criteria for social phobia (NIMH, Burstein, 2011).
This means that the criteria for social anxiety are far more drastic than the typical shyness some
people show and therefore cannot easily be confused.
Social anxiety usually gets recognized around the preteen years, although symptoms can be
seen at younger ages as well. This anxiety can have physical and mental symptoms; some of the
physical symptoms include sweating, blushing, fainting and trembling. As far as mental
symptoms go, there is excess worrying, a particular refusal of a type of social activity (for
example an issue with writing on the blackboard above all else), and a general type of social
isolation. You usually have to be showing true symptoms of social anxiety for at least 6 months
before you can receive treatment. Treatments for this disorder are very important, if a person
suffering from social anxiety doesn t not get treated they can continue to have it for the rest of their
lives and miss many important opportunities. Often people with social anxiety will develop another
disorder like depression if

Domesticity In Hawthorne s The House Of The Seven Gables
The House of the Seven Gables has often been described as containing domestic ideas, and many
readers have noted that Hawthorne draws on his own personal cult of domesticity in patterning
Phoebe after his wife Sophia. But when we isolate the particular conventions of the domestic novel,
we can see the great extent to which The House of the Seven Gables resemble this popular genre in
its plot, characters, setting, and imagery. Most importantly, Hawthorne s story embodies the
primary ideology of the cult of domesticity: the value of love and human relationships as opposed to
materialism and self centeredness.
Modern readings of the novel often concentrate on this static nature of the house. But reading more
closely with a domestic lense, we see just how the plot focuses on two female characters. After the
novels historical introduction, the narrative opens with Hepzibah, who dominates the action for
three chapters until Phoebe arrives. A common complaint about Phoebe is that we have not seen
enough of her to prepare us for her pivotal role in the novel s conclusion, but looking at the
narrative structure we can see how she unobtrusively controls the action. Chapters 5 14 all depict
Phoebe s interacting in turn with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

troublesome question of the novel s conclusion. The marriage of Phoebe and Holgrave, the new
affluence of the three Pyncheons, and everyone s removal to the late Judge s country house pose
significant critical problems. Hawthorne appears to begin with a story that condemns the past,
aristocratic ideology, and isolation and to conclude having all of the characters embrace these
corrupted values. Was Hawthorne merely having all the characters embrace these corrupted values?
Was Hawthorne merely uncomfortably giving in to public demand for a happy ending? Or is the
ending an ironic condemnation of Holgrave and

A Study On Easter Island
Easter Island has long been a puzzling intrigue in the minds of historians, scholars, and the common
folk alike. What happened to the once tropical lush forests? How did a civilization erect such
impressive statues and why were they erected? And where are the people who erected these statues
now? Many of these questions have been explained over the years with circumstantial evidence and
preposterous assumptions. However, through careful analysis and meticulous evidence gathering,
lead scholars like Joanne Van Tilburg, Jared Diamond, Terry Hunt, and Carl Lipo, have established
a comprehensive literature on the history and likely events that happened on Easter Island.
One of the debates that continues today is centered primarily around the deforestation of Rapa Nui.

An Encouragement for Small Businesses
Encouragement of Small Business
Introduction
The Congress has the authority to impose requirements for the federal procurement policies.
Through the acquisition process, the government procures goods and services from diverse players.
The process consists of three phases that are, acquisition planning and need recognition, contract
formation and contract administration. Federal acquisition regulation (FAR) regulates the activities
of the government in the procurement process. The system does not regulate the activities of the
private sectors, but it affects the operation of private firms incorporated into the federal government
by way of solicitation and reference of contracts. Congress, on the other hand, imposes requirements
on private sectors whereby, agencies of the government obtain goods and services from private
individuals or sectors. One of these authorities comes to be when congress exercises its mandate by
promoting subcontracting and contracting with small business entities (Columba, Gambacorta

chance to contract with government agencies. Congress should aid, assist, protect, and counsel
small business entities to ensure their survival in the market. Congress mandate ensure that there is

by Saddam Hussein, an estimated 100,000 (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). In the U.S., Gulf War
Syndrome was seen in veterans of the war, thought to be chemical weapons related. The American
intervention in Somalia, took place in 1993 1994 while Bill Clinton was the president of the United
States (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). The intervention in Somalia was nicknamed Operation
Restore Hope, where U.S. troops and United Nations forces, went to Somalia to restore the order
(diplomatic initiatives. 2016). On October 3, 1993, 18 U.S. soldiers were killed and 78 wounded
while attacking Somali fighters (Army in Somalia, 1992 1994. 2001). Up to 1,000 Somali fighters
and civilians were killed.
There was a large gap in casualties between the two sides. Americans were very shocked by the
Oct. 3 incident, they did not understand the source of Somalia anger. They saw their mission as an
effort to help the Somalis (Army in Somalia, 1992 1994. 2001). An article

Self Discovery In Emil Sinclair s Max Demian
Emil Sinclair does not fully achieve his quest for self discovery, but he does develop along that path
and gains the tools and experiences necessary for the achievement of his quest, post novel. The
main manner through which he develops along this path is through interactions with the character
who gives his name to the title; Max Demian. At the start of the novel, Sinclair restricts what he
views as acceptable conduct to the realm of light and righteousness, (4) the realm of his parents,
sisters, school and church. However, Sinclair is tempted to cross into the other realm, the realm
characterized by darkness and perceived sin, stating, There were times when I actually preferred
living in the forbidden realm, (5). However, as the realm of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Upon meeting Eva, Sinclair does not hesitate to allow her to mentor him, recognizing that
another master is needed to aid him on his path to self discovery, stating, I was startled and
frightened...But it didn t matter: I was prepared to let her guide me. (124) The forms of
guidance that Eva can offer Sinclair transcend and surpass those offered by both Demian and
Pistorius, chiefly because Eva provides Sinclair with an target for ceaseless affection, a target at
whom to direct his will and desires. This emphasizes the most crucial portion of Demian s
development, the push from his mentors to explore his personal urges and desires regardless of
their adherence or, more commonly, lack thereof to what is societally acceptable. This is the most
important piece of Sinclair s development due to its fairly radical nature. For instance, Pistorius
teachings advise Sinclair how to think regardless of conformity to society, while Eva s advice
teaches Sinclair how to act without regard to conformity to societal norms. The step taught by
Pistorius is a relatively easy one to take, but individuals in society have a significantly more difficult
time acting on those controversial thoughts than simply thinking

The Consequences Of Social Norms In The American Society
In a public setting and in society in general, there are certain rules that are followed
unconsciously by people. People are unaware most times that they control and manipulate their
behavior to fit into a certain societal setting. While it is perfectly normal to sing along and dance
to music in the privacy of the home, it is frowned upon to do such behavior in public. These
rules that people tend to follow unconsciously and consciously are referred to as social norms.
Social norms vary from culture to culture. In some cultures, like Japan, slurping food is a sign of
enjoyment and is welcomed in a public and private setting. However, in America and other
societies, slurping food or eating with your mouth open is completely unacceptable. Norms can be
broken down into four categories: folkways, mores, taboos, and laws. The social normthat my
partner and I chose to breach was a folkway norm. Folkway norms are behaviors that society
deems as acceptable and unacceptable behavior such as manners and etiquette. Breaking a
folkway brings no serious consequences like breaking a law. In our experiment, we decided to
violate dining etiquette. Ashely and I realized that it is perfectly acceptable to consume food on
the ground if it is at a park or the privacy of the home and even when most people are
participating in the same behavior. It is, however, strange and unusual to see people dining as if in
a picnic in a public setting where furniture, such as tables and chairs are offered.

Comparison Of Canada And France s Political System
Canada and France have different forms of government and different political systems. Canada is a
representative democracy and France is a Republic. The political and governmental structures of the

Socrates Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living When Socrates was being accused, he claimed that The
unexamined life is not worth living In the apology, Socrates did not use some special debating
skills to get sympathy. On the contrary, Socrates s apology is righteous and unflinching. He
believed what he said and what he thought are good for the Athenian citizens, youth, and the
country. He believed he must be the improver of the citizens and he was important to others. In the
apology, the bold statement The unexamined life is not worth living have two meanings. On the
one hand, Socrateswants to warn the citizens to examine and reflect upon their own life by virtue
and justice and get spirit growth. On the other hand, compared with his own life, Socrates is
more willing to examine himself and others and discourse about virtue and the form of the
world. Death can help him get away from the unexamined life. In Socrates s Allegory of Cave

Agile methodologies are best suited whenever the budget is tight and the time for the project is
less. It helps the companies to build the right product and empowers the team to develop new
apps according to the changes which will occur from day to day and helps the company up to
date. We are going to discuss about the methodologies which are developed on the basis of the
agile development process which are helpful for the development of mobile applications.

Waterfall model: This model has five phase like requirements, design, implementation, verification
and maintenance. It is a sequential process. It is originated from manufacturing and construction
industries. It is proposed by Royce. This model is series of cascading steps that covers actual
development process of the project and has iteration between its steps. The main problem with this
model is that rigidity of the model and there is no iteration between any other stages other than
adjacent stages. As we all know that web is the fastest mode of developing technology, therefore a
model which will automatically adapt to the changes taking place in the environment are to be
preferred.

American Slavery in 1600s
American Slavery Slavery became an established activity in America by 1600 s. The slaves were
mostly to provide free and cheap labor. Apart from America, slavery was practiced in other parts
of the world throughout history, and in fact it can be traced back to the time of the ancient
civilization. With industrial revolution especially with the rise of sugar plantations, the slaves
were used to grow sugar in the periods from 1100. This intensified between 1400 and 1500 when
Portugal and Spain ventured into sugar growing in the eastern Atlantic regions. The growth of
the plantations required labor, hence African slaves were bought from Africa, to provide labor.
As the Europeans set up colonies in America, they brought the plantation ideas with them, which
led to the need for labor hence they tried to enslave the Native Americans to work in their mines
and fields. The Native Americans were prone to diseases hence most of them died as a result of
diseases and overworking. Apart from the ones who died, a number rebelled and formed
alliances forcing the Europeans to look for other sources of labor. They started to acquire
African slaves due to a number of reasons: The African slaves were more stronger and immune to
a number of diseases in Europe and America; the Africans had no friends and family in America
hence it was not easy for them to form alliances or to escape; they provided a permanent and a
cheap source of labor; and most of them had worked on farms before in their

Persuasive Essay On Manifest Destiny
America is the home of the brave and land of the free. It s the continent known for the start of new
beginnings, and renewal of life. You are free to believe what you want, love who you wish, and be
you think you are designed to be. Although America may have many benefits that most countries
and continents don t, it came at a price. America had to fight her way to the top, and every
constitutional right was earned by the endurance and victories it took to make them possible. From
a fledgling nation that didn t have much hope to one that had the courage to proclaim Manifest
Destiny America definitely earned everything it has to offer.
From the beginning America has been a sort of safe haven. From when the pilgrims first decided to
cross the Atlantic, due to the dysfunctions of England. At the time England was very unfair to most
of its people. By not letting one rank up higher if the where at a lower class, or only letting the
eldest of the family inherit any land that the parents owned, leaving nothing to offer their other
children. But the biggest reason was that the Church of England wouldn t allow its people to
worship God the way the people felt was correct. So therefore they made the decision to cross over
to America where they would be free to start over again and worship God freely and how they felt
was the accurate and correct way to do so.
Although crossing over to America was the only option the pilgrims had if they wished to start
anew there would be risks that came with it. The risk of leaving their homes behind knowing that
returning wasn t exactly an option. Along with the fact that they didn t have an exact idea of
where they were going or where they would end up. They basically risked their lives just to be
able to worship God freely and for their families to not have to dwell under England s unfair rulings.
After crossing the relentless Atlantic with the tragic fact that some of their people were lost along
the way, they officially made it to America. They arrived in the land that was going to be the start
of their new lives, but it resulted in more than half of their population dead within the first few
weeks of winter. Even though they faced many difficulties they still

doing. The site teaches many skills through coloring to reading, games and videos. While watching
her video, Jan seems very inspirational and wants children to follow their dreams.

Symbolism In Pat Conroy s The Water Is Wide
Pat Conroy s memoir, The Water is Wide, is about his life on Daufuskie Island, also known as
Yamacraw Island in the book. Conroy spent a year teaching on the island in a little two room
schoolhouse. The Yamacrawans were rural African American people that by leaving on the
island had basically no knowledge of anything beyond the island. Conroy tells of all the troubles
he faced while teaching on the island and all the struggles he faced with outside forces. Conroy
uses the setting, the title of his book, symbolism, and different themes to express what the year
he spent teaching there was like. The setting of the novel is the south, on an island just off the
coast of South Carolina. The island is connected to the mainland of South Carolina by a river,
and the only way to get on or off the island is by boat. Conroy uses the setting of this book to
reveal just how cut off the Yamacrawans are from the real world , and how much this has
affected the students he is working with. Conroy states that The twentieth century has basically
ignored the presence of Yamacraw (Conroy 3), . The students have no idea what kind of world
they are living in, All around the room sat human beings of various sizes and hues who were not
aware that a world surrounded them, a world they would be forced to enter, and enter soon
(Conroy 37) , and this worries Conroy. The title of the book is also an important part of the story.
Pat Conroychose this title in reflection of the river between the

Individualism In Brave New World
COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY is the motto the citizens of the World State adhere to. The
motto stresses the need for everyone to work together, and discourages individualism. Their society
believes that when an individual feels, the community reels , meaning when an individual begins to
feel real emotion, society behaves in a disorderly manner. When one longs to achieve happiness and
meaningfulness, they may abandon everything they know in the pursuit of discovering their
passion. In this pursuit one may encounter a cultural conflict that is hazardous to themselves and
society, thus creating disorder in the world in which they call their home. In Brave New World,

the circumstances of an extreme kidnaping. After Ma and Jack escape they enter a world that

The Effect Of Physical Activity On Young Age Essay
The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of physical activity on teenage in late life.

Reflections on my Plant Engineering Summer Internship at United Parcel Service
Introduction
My Plant Engineering (PE) internship experience at United Parcel Service (UPS) allowed me to
utilize all that I have learned at Florida Polytechnic University and apply it to real world work
experience. Thus expanding upon my previous knowledge while simultaneously allowing me to
grow in new ways that cannot be taught in the classroom. Interning at UPS has helped highlight my
fortes and flaws as not only an engineering student, but also as a young adult entering the
professional world. Through firsthand daily coaching and mentoring from senior engineers, I
discovered that communication is the key to being successful as an individual and as a team.
Encouraging social cognizance provides a necessary balance within a company.
Getting the Job An INROADS alumni told me about an organization called INROADS and
encouraged me to go online and apply for their paid summer internship program. INROADS is a
non profit company that focuses on developing and placing talented underserved youth in business
and industry, and prepares them for corporate and community leadership (INROADS, 2011). The
organization is currently expanding their STEM program. So, my Florida Polytechnic education
along with their internship program was a great match. The program is highly selective with a
rigorous application process. Of more than 11,000 applicants just over 1,000 earn internships

  • 2. Why Coding Should Be Mandatory In Public Education Coding Should Be Mandatory in Public Education As robotics continues to integrate with current occupations, an increasing amount of industries are experiencing demand for computer programming or coding skills. Robots are becoming prevalent in numerous industries across the globe, Allen 4 consuming a myriad of once uniquely human jobs (Johnson). Businesses and industries are implementing robotics and coding more extensively in this digital era. Therefore, computer science and, in particular, coding should be mandatory curricula in public education that will future proof students for job acquisition and enhance primary language literacy. This supports the idea that as robot implementation meets human innovation, people naturally change those aspects of their lives, which may mean a need for greater emphasis on CS education. Robots will continue to consume once primarily human jobs, creating a more vastly integrated workforce. Students today will work alongside these robots and/or be the ones coding them in the future (Wohl). Thus, it is becoming more necessary to educate students starting at an elementary level to be technologically literate by not just interfacing with computers and robots, but understanding them and speaking their language a skill with a growing demand (Raja 610). Coding is becoming an essential skill in the job market allowing workers to adapt to the integrated human robot workforce; therefore, it is imperative that CS and coding education be mandatory and begin early. There is currently robotic disruption in many sectors like education, energy, health, and transportation. For example, companies have begun designing robots to aid special education students, and much like automobiles, robots have been implemented in solar panel production decreasing costs and increasing precision (Johnson). Chase Johnson reports in his article, Robotic Integration Into Our Daily Lives: Now and the Future, that hospitals are also using robots to transport medical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The finished bowls will be sold at a benefit dinner where diners will pay for a meal and keep the bowl. All of the proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Empty bowls is an international fundraiser to help fight hunger. Artists make bowls to donate to community organizations and the bowls are sold to raise money. Not only did I have a new experience while creating my bowl, I was also able to help someone in need. Shapiro believes a liberal education is beneficial for an individual and for a community. Social and cultural experiences ought to give meaning to both individual and community lives. By participating in the Empty Bowls Make a Thon, I was able to improve both myself and my community. Liberal education encourages improving and broadening one s experiences, which I was able to do within Westminster College. In a way, the bowl making also relates to The Good Samaritan. Well, his name is Winston Churchill. Winston Churchill entered the Royal Military College of Sandhurst, and graduated with honors in December of 1894. After being elected to Parliament at age twenty five, he went on to be First Lord of the Admiralty, Minister of Munitions, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Prime Minster. Sir Martin Gilbert wrote, It was Churchill s own opposition to all forms of defeatism that marked out the first six months of his war premiership and establish the nature and pattern of his war leadership. [3] In conclusion, Winston Churchill was a remarkably humble man. He always refused to take the credit he deserved for his leadership. When cheered at the demise of Nazi Germany, he responded, I have never accepted what many people have kindly said, namely that I inspired the nation. • 7. Doubt And Uncertainty In Macbeth In this essay, I will be comparing the running theme of doubt and uncertainty between Macbeth and other poems which we have studied. There are three main characters that I will be focusing on. Firstly, Macbeth is the protagonist in the play Macbeth written by Shakespeare. Macbeth was originally a soldier in the beginning battle when the Norwegians attempt to invade Scotland, which shows him as patriotic and loyal to his country and king. He was also the Thane of Glamis, of Scotland, meaning that he was trusted to look after land. He is married to his wife, Lady Macbeth, who also plays a large role in the play. Secondly, Ulysses is the character which the poem Ulysses written by Tennyson was based on, as it is a dramatic monologue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As it is a long monologue, based on Ulysses decision to leave his responsibilities in Ithaca, it includes many doubts and uncertainties. Since he has to deal with his desire to travel, the main doubt shown is whether to stay at home with his kingdom and family, or shall he leave again. Continuing on from this, Ulysses may doubt whether returning home after his first journey was the right thing for him to do. This can be shown as he devotes the beginning 26 lines to detailing his dissatisfaction and discontent of spending his last years doing nothing. A quote to support this is I cannot rest from travel line 6 which implies his boredom and that he wants to get the most out of life; meaning travelling. Ulysses is also uncertain about his relationship with his son, Telemachus. Even though he respects him and wishes him to be king; to whom I leave the sceptre and the isle , Ulysses doesn t believe that he has a bond with his son. Perhaps this is because of the first 20 years of his son s life he has missed, due to the Trojan War; or it could just be that Ulysses has spent the majority of his time moping, rather than spending time with him. This can be shown in the quote He works his, I mine which immediately splits the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Athletics And Persons With Disabilities Athletics and Persons with Disabilities It wasn t that long ago when the words athletics and persons with disabilities did not belong together. If a person was born with a physical or intellectual disability, sports fell into the group of activities that were excluded from their life. If an athlete acquired a physical or intellectual disability, sports became an activity they could no longer participate in. Sports and athletic pursuits belonged solely to non disabled persons. Persons with disabilities could only watch from the sidelines. Our society did not encourage or support any physical sports programs that allowed persons with disabilities to pursue their athletic dreams. Slowly, a cultural shift has altered our perception of what is possible for persons with disabilities. Part of this shift can be attributed to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960 s. Once the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, the walls of discrimination and segregation began to crumble. Although the Civil Rights Act initially sought to ensure equality for African Americans and other people of color, it eventually expanded to protect other vulnerable classes in our society.1 A piece of legislation that has contributed greatly to the rights of those with disabilities is the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This legislation is considered as far reaching and important as the Civil Rights Act. The core of the legislation focuses on prohibiting discrimination against persons ... • 10. A Very Brief Look at Worl War II World War II started on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. France and Great Britain declared war on Germany September 3rd. After France and Great Britain declared war on Germany they mobilized their armies and stationed their troops. Waiting for Germany to attack, but they never did. This eventually became known as the Phony War. By the end of May in 1940 the Germans had trapped all of the allied forces around a northern French city. Allies went to the beaches at Dunkirk because they were outnumbered, and outgunned. Great Britain set out to rescue the army, by sending about 850 ships across the English channel to Dunkirk. They sent many other things in the rescue effort. After Dunkirk resistance in France started to collapse, and by June 14, the Germans took Paris. French leaders surrendered on June 22, 1940. During the summer of 1940 Germany s air force started bombing Great Britain. The Germans started by attacking British airfields and aircraft factories. On September 7, 1940 the Germans started focusing more on the cities so that they could break British morale. The Battle of Britain stopped on May 10, 1941 because Hitler decided to call off his attacks and focus on the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. The allies learned from the Battle of Britain that Hitler s attacks could be avoided. • 12. Rwanda Genocide Essay Imagine living a life of fear, turmoil, with death all around. Hearing gun shots being fired, death chants, machete use, dead bodies everywhere. Afraid to close your eyes at night to rest, yet more afraid to wake up in the morning. To sustain your life and the life of your loved ones you must hide out, kill others, watch your neighbors be killed at the hands of the enemy. Knowing if you are caught you could be forced to murder your own family, be raped, be held captive, be starved to death, and most likely be killed. In 1994, this was the life many faced in Rwanda. Rwanda has become a synonym for one of the worst genocides of the 20th century (Lemarchand, (n.d.), p. 483). Rwanda is a small country located near the center of Africa. Introduction To avoid the breakage of eggs before reaching market, the eggshells needs to be as strong as possible. The strength of eggshells is mainly determined by the percentage of calcium carbonate in it. In order to monitor the quality of eggshells, the following experiment has to be done to determine the percentage of calcium carbonate in eggshells. In this experiment, back titration is used. First, excess acid is reacted with the calcium carbonate in eggshells: 2HCl(aq) + CaCO3(s) в†’ CaCl2(aq) + H2O(l)+ CO2(g) Later, if we can find out the number of mole of unreacted acid, number of mole of calcium carbonate can ... But when we isolate the particular conventions of the domestic novel, we can see the great extent to which The House of the Seven Gables resemble this popular genre in its plot, characters, setting, and imagery. Most importantly, Hawthorne s story embodies the primary ideology of the cult of domesticity: the value of love and human relationships as opposed to materialism and self centeredness. Modern readings of the novel often concentrate on this static nature of the house. But reading more closely with a domestic lense, we see just how the plot focuses on two female characters. After the novels historical introduction, the narrative opens with Hepzibah, who dominates the action for three chapters until Phoebe arrives. A common complaint about Phoebe is that we have not seen enough of her to prepare us for her pivotal role in the novel s conclusion, but looking at the narrative structure we can see how she unobtrusively controls the action. Chapters 5 14 all depict Phoebe s interacting in turn with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A domestic analysis of House of the Seven Gables may suggest a new way to approach the troublesome question of the novel s conclusion. The marriage of Phoebe and Holgrave, the new affluence of the three Pyncheons, and everyone s removal to the late Judge s country house pose significant critical problems. Hawthorne appears to begin with a story that condemns the past, aristocratic ideology, and isolation and to conclude having all of the characters embrace these corrupted values. Was Hawthorne merely having all the characters embrace these corrupted values? Was Hawthorne merely uncomfortably giving in to public demand for a happy ending? The public trust in governmental agencies was for first time swatted in Flint, Michigan, when a catastrophic event claimed 12 lives, due to corrosion of lead pipes. This was because of a gross negligence of the states appointed emergency manager who decided to switch Flint s public water source, to Michigan river. • 36. A Study On Easter Island Easter Island has long been a puzzling intrigue in the minds of historians, scholars, and the common folk alike. What happened to the once tropical lush forests? How did a civilization erect such impressive statues and why were they erected? And where are the people who erected these statues now? Many of these questions have been explained over the years with circumstantial evidence and preposterous assumptions. However, through careful analysis and meticulous evidence gathering, lead scholars like Joanne Van Tilburg, Jared Diamond, Terry Hunt, and Carl Lipo, have established a comprehensive literature on the history and likely events that happened on Easter Island. One of the debates that continues today is centered primarily around the deforestation of Rapa Nui. An island once thriving with lush tropical forests. On one side scholar s Tilburg and Diamond attribute the deforestations to societal conflict and degradation while on the other, Hunt and Lipo argue that deforestation was the result of combined human and rat resource depletion. I believe that Easter Island represents a tragedy of the commons scenario in which the isolation of the island, from any other island, contributed to the in fighting for resources (trees), power (chiefdoms), and prestige (moai), ultimately leading to the extinction of a people and their environment. Through the acquisition process, the government procures goods and services from diverse players. Federal acquisition regulation (FAR) regulates the activities of the government in the procurement process. This emphasizes the most crucial portion of Demian s development, the push from his mentors to explore his personal urges and desires regardless of their adherence or, more commonly, lack thereof to what is societally acceptable. This is the most important piece of Sinclair s development due to its fairly radical nature. For instance, Pistorius teachings advise Sinclair how to think regardless of conformity to society, while Eva s advice teaches Sinclair how to act without regard to conformity to societal norms. People are unaware most times that they control and manipulate their behavior to fit into a certain societal setting. While it is perfectly normal to sing along and dance to music in the privacy of the home, it is frowned upon to do such behavior in public. These rules that people tend to follow unconsciously and consciously are referred to as social norms. Social norms vary from culture to culture. In some cultures, like Japan, slurping food is a sign of enjoyment and is welcomed in a public and private setting. However, in America and other societies, slurping food or eating with your mouth open is completely unacceptable. Norms can be broken down into four categories: folkways, mores, taboos, and laws. The social normthat my partner and I chose to breach was a folkway norm. Folkway norms are behaviors that society deems as acceptable and unacceptable behavior such as manners and etiquette. Breaking a folkway brings no serious consequences like breaking a law. In our experiment, we decided to violate dining etiquette. • 51. American Slavery in 1600s American Slavery Slavery became an established activity in America by 1600 s. The slaves were mostly to provide free and cheap labor. Apart from America, slavery was practiced in other parts of the world throughout history, and in fact it can be traced back to the time of the ancient civilization. With industrial revolution especially with the rise of sugar plantations, the slaves were used to grow sugar in the periods from 1100. This intensified between 1400 and 1500 when Portugal and Spain ventured into sugar growing in the eastern Atlantic regions. The growth of the plantations required labor, hence African slaves were bought from Africa, to provide labor. As the Europeans set up colonies in America, they brought the plantation ideas with them, which led to the need for labor hence they tried to enslave the Native Americans to work in their mines and fields. The Native Americans were prone to diseases hence most of them died as a result of diseases and overworking. Apart from the ones who died, a number rebelled and formed alliances forcing the Europeans to look for other sources of labor. They started to acquire African slaves due to a number of reasons: The African slaves were more stronger and immune to a number of diseases in Europe and America; the Africans had no friends and family in America hence it was not easy for them to form alliances or to escape; they provided a permanent and a cheap source of labor; and most of them had worked on farms before in their ... Although America may have many benefits that most countries and continents don t, it came at a price. America had to fight her way to the top, and every constitutional right was earned by the endurance and victories it took to make them possible. From a fledgling nation that didn t have much hope to one that had the courage to proclaim Manifest Destiny America definitely earned everything it has to offer. From the beginning America has been a sort of safe haven. From when the pilgrims first decided to cross the Atlantic, due to the dysfunctions of England. At the time England was very unfair to most of its people. By not letting one rank up higher if the where at a lower class, or only letting the eldest of the family inherit any land that the parents owned, leaving nothing to offer their other children. But the biggest reason was that the Church of England wouldn t allow its people to worship God the way the people felt was correct. So therefore they made the decision to cross over to America where they would be free to start over again and worship God freely and how they felt was the accurate and correct way to do so. Although crossing over to America was the only option the pilgrims had if they wished to start anew there would be risks that came with it. The risk of leaving their homes behind knowing that returning wasn t exactly an option. Along with the fact that they didn t have an exact idea of where they were going or where they would end up. They basically risked their lives just to be able to worship God freely and for their families to not have to dwell under England s unfair rulings. After crossing the relentless Atlantic with the tragic fact that some of their people were lost along the way, they officially made it to America. The Yamacrawans were rural African American people that by leaving on the island had basically no knowledge of anything beyond the island. Conroy tells of all the troubles he faced while teaching on the island and all the struggles he faced with outside forces. Conroy uses the setting, the title of his book, symbolism, and different themes to express what the year he spent teaching there was like. The setting of the novel is the south, on an island just off the coast of South Carolina. The island is connected to the mainland of South Carolina by a river, and the only way to get on or off the island is by boat. Conroy uses the setting of this book to reveal just how cut off the Yamacrawans are from the real world , and how much this has affected the students he is working with. Conroy states that The twentieth century has basically ignored the presence of Yamacraw (Conroy 3), . The students have no idea what kind of world they are living in, All around the room sat human beings of various sizes and hues who were not aware that a world surrounded them, a world they would be forced to enter, and enter soon (Conroy 37) , and this worries Conroy. The title of the book is also an important part of the story. Pat Conroychose this title in reflection of the river between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflections on my Plant Engineering Summer Internship at United Parcel Service Introduction My Plant Engineering (PE) internship experience at United Parcel Service (UPS) allowed me to utilize all that I have learned at Florida Polytechnic University and apply it to real world work experience. Thus expanding upon my previous knowledge while simultaneously allowing me to grow in new ways that cannot be taught in the classroom. Interning at UPS has helped highlight my fortes and flaws as not only an engineering student, but also as a young adult entering the professional world. Through firsthand daily coaching and mentoring from senior engineers, I discovered that communication is the key to being successful as an individual and as a team. Encouraging social cognizance provides a necessary balance within a company.
