Concept of Checklist
The checklist consists of a prepared list of items, with a
place to check the presence or absence of an item or to
mark it by ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. For checking either ( ) or (X)
marks can be used. Checklist is a simple type of device
consisting of a prepared list of item. It is similar to a rating
scale in appearance, but differ in the judgement pattern it
makes. In a rating scale, the degree or extent of presence
of a given characteristic is recorded along a scale.
Whereas, a checklist records only the presence or absence
of a characteristic.
Concept of Checklist
Cont…

judgements. It saves time and ensures quick observation.
It systematises and facilitates the recording of observation.
Checklist is a type of questionnaire in the form of a set of
categories for the respondents to check. It ensures the
completeness of details of the data. Responses to the
checklist items are largely a matter of fact, not of
judgement.

2. Quite useful when evaluation depends on observation.
3. Can be used as a self-reporting technique.
4. Used to evaluate various school programmes and
practices.
5. Used as an instrument in educational appraisal of studies-
