Features Of An Alternative Operating System
There are different characteristics considered when making an alternative operating system that is
viable for an organization. Linux is a multitasking operating system feature developed for programs
and a model of Unix. It is a free open source. Linux form the background for many offices. It is easy
to install application used in the organizations such as office, word and web browser applications.

Malthus Theory And The Earth s Theory Of Overpopulation
The Earth s population is growing rapidly leading to a state where human population exceeds the
Earth s carrying capacity. Thomas Robert Malthus was the first economist to start the theory of
population and the idea of overpopulation. He wrote his views and explanation about population and
its consequences in his essay on Principles of Population which was published in 1798. The book
explained the relationship between food and population, and their growth patterns. His views on the
theory of overpopulation and its impact influenced many political economists and earned economics
the label of the dismissal science . Malthus was concerned by the condition of poverty in the British
cities during his time and the increase of population in the industrializing societies. The main idea of
Malthus theory was to maintain balance between the population growth and the food for human
existence, as the human population tends to grow quicker than the power in the earth to produce
subsistence.
Malthus was the first economists to present the views and ideas on the matter of population growth
and its effect on food and the surroundings. According to Malthus Theory, human population grows
exponentially at a geometric rate i.e. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on, doubling the number at each time period,
whereas food production grow in much slower rate than the population, which grows at an arithmetic
rate i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. Thus, Malthus shows that population grows much faster than the

Changing Divorce Laws Essay
Changing Divorce Laws
In 1995, Statistics Canada data shows that 30% of marriages split (McGovern). Since the 1960 s,
marriage and divorce have been undergoing profound changes which have altered the meaning of
marriage, the chances of its ending in divorce and the circumstances attached to marriage. These
changes have made it easier for couples to obtain a divorce due to the changing laws and changing
morals of society. The changes include three new grounds needed to prove marital breakdown, such as
your spouse committing adultery, your spouse causing mental or physical cruelty or a separation of a
year it was previously three years. Divorce also impacts the family as a whole, not only the children
but also the two parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monogamy was out, free love thrived, and divorce represented freedom. Enough people wanted
divorce by the late 1960 s that the pressure was on to change the law.
After long and bitter parliamentary debates, the federal Divorce Act was revised. Additional grounds
for divorce included desertion, imprisonment, or separation for at least three years plus marital
offences of physical and mental cruelty. The new law eliminated the need to appear in court in most
cases often the most personally humiliating experience in the older legal procedure. The law later
changed again in 1985, where it eased off yet again, to allow divorces after only a year s separation.
The broad trend in Canada was to make divorce easier. It was accomplished by making it less fault
oriented where most divorce applications to the courts are no longer contested which eliminates the
need for a formal court hearing where both parties testify and ask for different things. With no fault
splits in place, the social stigma of divorce shrank. As more people divorced the stigma weakened
further. The cycle continued while the divorce rate soared. In 1951, there had been only one divorce
for every 24 marriages, by 1987, one couple divorced every two couples that married (McGovern). In
1993, there were 78 000 divorces across Canada, compared to about 11 000 in 1968 before the new
divorce laws came into

Fair Time Is A Great Time For The City
Fair Time The Alabama National Fair in Montgomery, Alabama is a great time for the city. It provides
us residents with a good time that we don t reallt get to experience on the regular. Even though the
rides are broke down, and most of the time not even safe at all. It still can put a smile on someones
face to know that fair will be in town soon. Something that the fair can offer that s actually something
people run to the gates for is the wonderful greasy food. I have searched high and low, and the only
place that I can find a good foot long corndog is at the fair. The fair will always be one of the best
times in Montgomery. I have been going to fair for as long as I can remember. I still get somewhat
excited to here that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I am in the middle of the midway, I do not know where to go there are so many things to choose
from. I literraly need a full day to go to this fair because it is just that good. I could either go get a
wristband to have unlimited rides or I could just get tickets to ride a limited amount of times. It is
already known that the wristband is the best way to go if one wants to really enjoy themselves at the
fair. Who would not want to go on the these faboulous dangerous rides more than once? Definitely not
me. I always get the wristband. The first thing I always do is of course I go to the broke down rides
and test them out. One would look at these rides and make the quick assumption of, I would not dare
step a foot on this dangerous looking ride. But once that person does get on the ride they can have a
really fun time. When I see a person on one of these fair rides, I always see them smiling, and having
fun. Unless the ride is making them sick so I quickly turn away. So the sterotype of fair rides being
boring and not fun are completely false in my opinion. After the rides before I get to the food I have to
make it through the midway, and listen to the workers of the fair games yelling at me to play their
games. I m a competiotor so I have to give some of these games a shot. The games at the fair are
obviously rigged, prime example is the basketball shot. A regular standard basketball rim is not as

Scatological Humor In The Movie Jackass
FILM CRITIC Heaven help the unsuspecting families who wander into Adam Sandler s Eight Crazy
Nights expecting a jolly animated holiday funfest. The holidays aren t very cheerful in Sandlerville,
which is why the PG 13 rating mentions frequent and crude sexual humor. The MPAA doesn t mention
it, but there s also a lot of scatological humor in the film, in keeping with Sandler s inexplicable
fascination with defecation, flatulence and bodily fluids.
If this is not a family film, what is it? Well, the audiences for Jackass may enjoy a scene where Davey,
the hero, slams a sweet little old man into a Port a Potty and shoves it down a hill. When the geezer
emerges at the bottom, he is still alive, but covered from head to toe with excrement. Then Davey
sprays him with a garden hose, and he freezes solid. Ho, ho. Davey (who looks like and is voiced by
Sandler) is a 33 year old crazy Jewish guy, the film informs us, who is up before the judge on the
latest in a long series of brushes with the law, this time for drunkenness. The judge is prepared to send
him away for a long time, but kindly little Whitey (also voiced by Sandler) pipes up. Whitey explains
that he is the referee of the local youth basketball league, and he could use an assistant. The judge
releases Davey to Whitey s custody, not explaining why he thinks this drunk and vandal would be a
good role model.
Whitey and his twin sister, Eleanore (Sandler again), take the lad into their home, but he remains

Secret And Forbidden Love In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The...

Title
Nathaniel Hawthorne s book The Scarlet Letter is a story of secret and forbidden love as well as the
cause and effect of this forbidden love, the setting is a Puritan colony in Boston, Massachusetts around
1750. The main character Hester Prynne, a God fearing Puritan living within this community, gets
caught in the act of adultery when she is discovered to be with child whilst having no husband. During
this era, the punishment for adultery forced the adulteress or adulterer to wear a scarlet letter A upon
their bosom. While staying in prison, following the discovery of her sin, Hester gave birth to a
beautiful baby girl, which she named Pearl. Although some may choose to look upon pearl as a gift
from the devil, or as a rotten curse, Pearl grows to become a reflection of both individual and
collective human conscience, a personification of the scarlet letter, and a symbol of light. Pearl
represents a physical form of many character s consciences throughout the novel. For instance, she is
the voice of the collective conscience within her community when she points the crooked finger at
Hester in the forest. Everywhere Hester goes, Pearl must follow and so she is a constant reminder to
Hester that she must wear the scarlet letter at all times, while on their walk in Chapter 16, Pearl tells
her mother that the sunshine does not (274) love her and it runs away and hides itself (274)because it
is afraid of the letter. However, after Hester has cast off the letter A Pearl refuses to come to her. Pearl
often highlights and brings attention to Hester s scarlet letter by inquiring about its purpose, this shows
that while she may represent the conscience of those around her, she is still a little girl trying to
understand the world around her. Pearl is not only of manifestation of a community conscience but she
is most importantly a physical manifestation of Arthur Dimmesdale s conscience. She sees most
clearly his inner desires and she is attracted to him from the beginning. During their first encounter
when Pearl is still practically a newborn, she reaches for Dimmesdale, and while he notices he does

Payroll System Essay
INTRODUCTION Did you ever wonder why in every company there is a need to have a system? Do
you imagine an organization without any planning program? Since then, in every company a system is
one of the ingredients of their success and capacity to give services. Payroll System is one of the
fundamental needs of a company. Payroll is the sum of all financial records of salaries for an
employee, wages, bonuses and deductions. In accounting, payroll refers to the amount paid to
employees for services they provided during a certain period of time. Payroll plays a major role in a

Statement of the problem: The study intends to make a web program that deals with the improvements
of other payroll system that currently exists. Specifically, the study intends to answer the following
questions: 1. What are the other features that could be added in a typical payroll system to enhance its
function? 2. What is the advantage of having an online payroll system? 3. What are the casualties that
we may encounter in this system? 4. Is there a greater probability that it is easier to access in an online
system? 5. If you failed to remember your username or password to log on in the system are there
other ways to retrieve it? Objective of the Study Choosing and implementing a payroll system is a
major undertaking for a company, mostly when the company is up to speed in getting salary for the
employees. There is a tremendous amount of staff time as well as money invested in selecting,
implementing and maintaining the payroll system. It is a never ending cycle as well. Once the system
implementation is complete, all the bugs are finally worked out, and the system is running smoothly, it
is time to begin installing and upgrading. The objective of the Online Payroll System is to pay the
correct employees, with the correct pay at the correct time and to accurately check the time record of
the employees, to check the late and absences of the employees,

Ryan s Gross Sensorimotor Development
Ryan exhibits primitive postural and movement strategies through the use of the tonic labyrinthine
reflex in both prone and supine position. He also displays an ATNR reflex when he turns his head to
the left; if this persists it can inhibit the development of his hand eye coordination along with grasp
and reaching difficulties. Since Ryan s head control is beginning to be voluntary and muscles
necessary for neck control are being activated. This could be considered late primitive stage moving
into the early transitional stage. The development of Ryan s neck control can help his postural control.
Ryan displays weight bearing through his leg when positioned into the standing position. This occurs
based on his positive standing reflex, not the activation of lower extremity muscles. Even though Ryan
s strategies for purposeful movements are based on reflexes, this will make it difficult for him to do
activities as a typically developing child that does not rely on reflexive movement.
2. Compare and contrast Ryan s gross sensorimotor development with that of a typical 15 month old
child. Include the gross sensorimotor development level (in months) that you feel Ryan has achieved

The World Is Safer And Safer
The Titanic sank on 14 April 1912, after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage for underestimating
the tip of the iceberg. Correspondingly, the dangerous undercurrents that flowed beneath the
deceptively calm surface of the safe world are always easier to be omitted. It seems like that we are
living in a world where prosperity, happiness and wealth. A lot of data, such as GDP and compared
graphs, convinced people that the world is safe, whereas obscure the hidden hazards. Selective data
may make it look like the world is safer and better, but danger in minority as well as some threats and
problems, such as cyber attacks, drug resistant germs, food security and climate change, should also
be taken into consideration. People who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, stuff happens that sometimes confounds even the most imaginative forecasts. The
remarkable healing power of antibiotics invites widespread and, however, often inappropriate use.
This misuse and overuse of antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance among bacteria and consequent
treatment complications. While endemic diseases like malaria, cholera, plague and the Ebola virus
weaken already vulnerable people, drug resistant germs arises which further undermines the desires,
being cured by drugs, of people. Since the above reason, it is clear that unpredicted changes are
supposed to be considered to properly weigh the fact. As I have mentioned in initial, the dangerous
undercurrents that flowed beneath the deceptively calm surface of the safe world are always easier to
be omitted. What will be indicated behind the mass data and graphs which always persuade people to
believe the safe world? To explore the potential danger under the tip of the ice berg, four main threats,
related to physical safety, biological /nuclear terrorism, food security, environment pollution, and
intangible danger, cyber attacks, should also be paid attention. Food security is definitely one of the
most serious problem. Food is necessary to human beings as water to fish, without which we cannot
live even will arouse the scramble for it, not to mention our safe.

Business Board of Directors
2) Non executive directors are members of a business s board of directors, but are not part of the
executive side of things. A non executive director normally doesn t participate in the day to day
management of the business, but offer general guidance and a different perception on current
problems of the business. The board often seek their contribution on particular issues like policy
making and planning exercises as they are independent and will provide an impartial view. They are
appointed on their wide experience, specialist knowledge and personal qualities, so that they can carry
out four principal roles:
1. Strategy
2. Performance
3. Risk
4. People (Remuneration)
Non executive directors (NEDS) have a duty to advise, criticise and help the development of strategy.
As outsiders to the company the NEDS have a more impartial view of external factors disturbing the
business s performance than the executives on the board. This will allow them to provide an educated
contribution to strategy and act as a constructive critic in observing the aims and strategies created by
the management team.
Another key role for NEDS is that they should examine the performance of management in meeting
targets that have been agreed before, checking the progress made towards achieving the objective. It is
up to NEDS to inquire repeatedly and ask questions of management, particularly where they have
worries on the performance of the company. They are also responsible for determining the proper

ICT and Business Development
In line with the main priorities set by the URBACT Information Society Network, this theme focuses
on business development and the role of ICT as a means of tackling economic restructuring and
promoting employment and in doing so fostering social cohesion and economic inclusion.
The purpose of this brief document is to act as a guide for colleagues when preparing material or
presentations on this topic and to provoke discussion on the issues raised in it.
Business Development and its relationship to ICT?
Business Development is the process of improvement that enables a business to become more

Increasingly networks are not just confined to the office but are being adopted so that they allow

This transformation has really taken place over the last 20 years and continues to transform the way
business is done. No business today can ignore the use of technology as its effective use helps
businesses to remain competitive and profitable, thereby creating or safeguarding jobs.
The role of the Public Sector?
What is the case for Public Sector intervention if this is already happening? Talking specifically about
SME s, the final report (Feb. 2004) of the European Go Digital Awareness campaign 2001 2003 shows
that to help SME s to Go Digital is still a policy challenge as SME s remain sceptical about ICT and e
business. This is mainly the result of:
Their experience of procuring technology has often left an impression that the wrong decision was
made as the expected benefits from using new technology have not materialised. This then affects
businesses willingness to further invest in technology and therefore threatens their further
competitiveness.
The creation of new businesses especially in new industries requires that the right support and
business environment are present. For example the presence of Science Park s, Universities, and

The And The Space
Staring down the corridor I see a white blur. Walls are scattered with flickering lights and monitors. As
I let go of the walls and push off the ground, I am free, as if I will never touch the ground again; I am
floating limp above the Earth.
Scott is here with me. Our suits resemble large puffy marshmallows. Mission Control briefs us before
we begin. Sometimes it is like the guys back on Earth are purposefully trying to scare us before we
begin. Protocols are necessary for our safety as we venture into this dangerous place. Thoughts of
rupturing lungs, bursting eardrums, and boiling bodies, plague my mind. Mission Control utters that
the briefing will keep Scott and I safe. Although the thought of my demise is not entirely discouraging.

The hatch begins to move. My first glimpse of the universe is veiled behind the shade of white
insulating fabric what a buzzkill. A corridor of white covered by even more white, a curtain hiding the
most stunning view. My disappointment is obvious. Reaching out to pull it away is as exciting as
unwrapping a Christmas gift.
A hint of the universe peers into the airlock. Rays of sunlight invade abruptly, casting a silhouette
upon the back of the corridor. Detaching from the station, a sliver of the universe catches my eye, it is
now time to go out.
As much as I would love to float gracefully through the emptiness of space, I don t intend to die today.
The bulky square space suit makes it difficult to fit through the round hatch. Emerging from the hatch,
I notice the grand scale, the vivid colours and textures of the cosmos.
I m holding onto the rest of the planet, with a single grip of my hand, supported from my waist, only
by a thin tether. We revolve with the world at speeds unimaginable. On one side is a familiar world of
infinite textures and boundaries painted on the ground by the civilisations of Earth. To the other side,
an endless field of ever enshrouding cosmic darkness. Eyeing me from behind is my partner Scott,
speeding forward; head first like a missile. We are ready to get to work.
Working outside in the vacuum of space is a surreal experience. It s almost like déjà vu, it is a place so
familiar, yet so otherworldly. Five hours pass in the blink of an

Essay On Transgender Army
On July 26th our 45th president of the United States Donald J. Trump continues to make his daily
appearance in the headlines by tweeting out The United States government will not accept or allow
transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military . This ban would affect the already
estimated 15,000 currently serving military personnel and any future transgender volunteers.
Following this statement was an uproar of backlash from all corners of the country and to some has
solidified the fact that Trump does not stand with the LGBT community, which he ran his campaign
on. Many feel this announcement is unconstitutional and a misrepresentation of our country and the
progress that has been made. This information should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this, the numbers of actually serving transgender individuals can actually be higher. These
numbers alone should be a justification for the impact the transgender community can play in any
scenario of combat our armed forces might indulge in, so why get rid of 15,000 troops? It was decided
on June 30, 2016, that transgender Americans would be allowed to serve in our military and that
policy was put into place. Here we are, a little over a year later and this subject is back in the
headlines, with many currently serving and their future now very much up in the air. President Trump
stated that the reason for the ban was because of the high cost and economic burden transgender
individuals created. In reality the price for healthcare and pay for these soldiers isn t even a drop in the
bucket of our military s current budget. The cost associated with medical care for gender transition
would only increase military health care expenditures by between $2.4 million and $8.4 million each
year an increase of between 0.04 and 0.13 percent in comparison, our military currently spends $84
million on erectile dysfunction pills. Along with these statistics, it is estimated that only 0.1 percent of
transgender service members even seek treatments that could delay deployment (Joseph). All of this
show s that cost really wasn t the factor behind President Trump s decision and it has to have been for
another reason. Or maybe he just isn t getting the

Replacement Signs
Tips For Maintaining Your Car s Tires And Identifying When Replacement Is Needed
Many drivers do not even think about their car s tires until there is a major problem. The truth is that
poorly maintained tires can affect the performance of your car and potentially put you and your
passengers in danger. For example, having your tires underinflated by 25% can cause tire failure to
occur. Her is how you can maintain your car s tires along with signs of when it is time to replace them.
Maintenance
Air Pressure
Take a close look at your tires to find out how much air pressure is needed to keep them properly
inflated. Too much air can cause the tire to have a blowout when driving at high speeds when the
internal temperature increases. Too little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The improper balance will cause unintentional wear and tear on your tires, which can lead to the tires
needing to be replaced sooner than the others.
If you notice that your care is slightly veering to one side when driving while your hands are off the
wheel it could be a sign of a tire misalignment. Your local auto shop can perform a wheel alignment to
get your tired back on track. They will also rotate your tires at the same time to help increase their
lifespan.
Replacement Signs
Tire Tread
You do not need a fancy tire gauge to tell if it is time to replace your tires, because all you need is a
penny. Stick it head first into the tread. If you can see the top of Lincoln s head, it s a sign you need to
get new tires.
Uneven wear is also a clear sign you need replacement. Just run your hand over the tread and feel how
smooth it is. If you feel noticeable bumps in the tread, it is time to replace your tires.
Vibration
If you did not feel the bumps in the tires then you might feel it when driving. Those uneven treads will
translate to a vibration when you driver your car, especially at high speeds. While bad struts and
shocks could also be causing the vibration, confirm your suspicious by investigating the tire

Student Success And Support Services Program Essay
Research/Policy Topic Analysis: Student Success and Support Services Program (SSSP)
Background
The Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) for California community colleges arose as a result
of the Senate Bill 1456 with a mission to increase California community college student access and
success by providing effective core matriculation services, including orientation, assessment and
placement, counseling, and other educational planning services, and academic interventions, or follow
up services for at risk students (Graillat, Lawrence, Quiaoit Mohr, 2016, p. 4). While this Senate Bill
established the SSSP, there were other acts and bills that came before that eventually paved the way
for the Student Success and Support Program.
The Seymour Campbell Matriculation Act of 1986 created the matriculation process for continuing
and incoming students taking courses for credit. The idea was that there should be an equal
educational opportunity across California and that this would be accomplished through having the
same educational services across campuses that would help students reach their educational goals
(Graillat et al., 2016). Furthermore, in 1990, the Board of Governors (BOG) specified what the
regulations would be for implementing the matriculation process (Graillat et al., 2016). In 1997 and

Anxiety Essay
Anxiety is one of the most common mental illnesses effecting nearly 15 million people. Symptoms of
anxiety can vary from minor to major effects depending on the victim. Teenager Georgiann Steely has
had anxiety since a child (Landro 1). There are many types of anxiety ranging from social to phobic
anxiety. Anxiety affects many people in today s society. To understand and treat it, one must look at its
causes, the effect on the victims, and how it is currently treated.
Throughout the years, the amount of people diagnosed with anxiety has increased. Because of this,
many are trying to figure out its causes. Many people do not fully understand anxiety as a whole,
thinking that it is a sporadic or one time occurrence. Anxiety is a disorder where ... Show more content

Throughout the past years medical research has advanced concerning mental illnesses. Treatments for
anxiety has been created based on research found on how to tackle anxiety. A common treatment is
medication. Two common medications for anxiety is serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and serotonin
norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Although other drugs are used, these are the most common (
Treatment ). This suggests that since medications are the most common, more severe symptoms may
need extra treatment. Anxiety has multiple treatments including psychotherapy. Psychotherapy has
multiple branches, one being cognitive behavioral therapy, which focuses on management of
symptoms and skills to help relaxation. Another would be cognitive restructuring, which enforces
positive thinking, along with coping plans for certain situations (Landro 2). This passage suggests that
psychotherapy takes a personalized approach for treating anxiety. Although the treatments main focus
is to better the patient, it leaves a lot for the victim s family and future. Treatments make take a while
to help, which leaves victims feeling worse ( Depression 2). This can lead one to conclude that
because episodes are likely to occur, families must be extra careful to watch and support the victim in
the future. Anxiety treatments range from medication to therapy. Victims may experience relapses in
the future and it s important to continuously check up on

Masaccio And Annunciation
The Tribute Money by Masaccio and Annunciation by Leonardo Da Vinci are classic pieces that
possess traditional Florentine influences while also expanding new innovative techniques and
approaches that produce a different aesthetic and emotional response from its viewers. Tribute Money
depicts 3 scenes, all of which involve Jesus. Centered in the painting is a tax collector asking the
disciple Peter to pay the temple tax. To the left Jesus orders Peter to drop a hook in the sea to catch a
fish. In the fish s mouth is a coin that Peter proceeds to give to the tax collector on the right side of the
painting. The purpose was to depict the righteousness of paying tribute to tax collectors who were
often also agents of the church. Annunciation depicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a time in which art, culture, and science were embraced and progress sought was pursued.
While progressive values were accepted, this did not mean traditional institutions such as the Roman
Catholic Church did not maintain its influence on society. Religion and politics were often intertwined
and ultimately influenced the works of many artists. The Church used arts as a form of communicating
messages, propaganda and was able to obtain power by doing so. Many of Leonardo s works are the
product of projects commissioned by churches and political leaders, which is the source of the
religious themes of many of his paintings. The Medici Family, which was the family in power during
this time, had a particularly strong alliance with the pope and Catholic Church. They served as bankers
and accountants to the Church. During the mid 1420s, the second phase of the war between Florence
and Milan occurred in which imposition of a new tax reform became imperative as the Medici looked
for a way to finance the battle. The Medici did not view this imposition as a violation of religious
authority. Additionally, the Medici was challenged again in 1472 as the pope and king of Naples
aimed to free Florence from Medici s oppression. Da Vinci s work could be interpreted as a symbol of
hope and liberation, as Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary from heaven, with news that she will conceive a
holy child. This demonstrates the intermingling of religion and politics, which is very much aligned
with the depiction we see in The Tribute Money and Annunciation. The depictions of divine moments
captured through the medium of great Renaissance art is clearly influenced by the role of the Church
at the time, and the paintings allow the viewer to enjoy the work but also reconsolidate their Christian

The Day The Earth Stood Still And Close Encounters Of The...
When you first mention science fiction people s thoughts most likely go to books and films like Star
Wars, Hunger Games, I, Robot, and Avatar, stories we don t always think of as educational . The
future, aliens, space adventures, human like robots, etc. we tend to think of these as silly ideas and
fantasies. But, the world of science fiction teaches us a lot about human nature; our flaws, pitfalls, and
irrationalities.
The flaws of our nature are demonstrated in A.I. a film based off the Supertoys stories. In this series
we read/watched in class, a robot child made to stimulate love for parents without children. This
artificial intelligence human robot does no wrong, loves unconditionally and always listens to their
parent. Yet, it is difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Day the Earth Stood Still and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are such stories. In these stories
shows our human nature in the fact of we are afraid of the unknown. For example, in The Day the
Earth Stood Still we re afraid of the alien and threaten him with military forces throughout the whole
rest of the film. Even when we discover he is only here to warn and save us. Close Encounters of the
Third Kind is different in the fact that we do not threaten the alien visitors we wonder and welcome
them if we wish. It was frightening to the characters but was the right thing to do in the situation. The
irrationality in this film is shown not by the military forces but by the way Ronnie is unsupportive of
Roy. Despites the fact it would be difficult to see your spouse obsessed with one thing and distant to
your family, she should ve realized, stuck with him and supported him through the mess. Many people
are like that in our society; only around for the good times, but when the going gets though they bail
on those around. That to me is irrational. If you re not willing to stick with someone in the good and
the bad, then why be part of their lives?
In essence, science fiction is not just fun and games of aliens, robots and the unknown, it s a teacher.
This genre educates and warns us of our destructive tendency. Science fiction teaches us about human
nature; our flaws, pitfalls, and

Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis
Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of
Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are on a
safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut he
received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative
Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can
get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda,
whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life
experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he
has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering
his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is
obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really
a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent,
which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry
and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the
end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on
Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net
with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can
t hear it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings
about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects with
random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect nouns
with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros poem, it s a
cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to ordinary objects, she
wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices.

French American Dream Essay
Traveling has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Imagine strolling down a sidewalk being
surrounded by the twinkling lights of world famous monuments and chapels. Hearing an elegant, but
virgin language from inside the cafe serving cultural cuisine. As an American it is natural to feel so out
of place, but so comfortable with the surroundings in the stylish environment. Being 5000 miles from
home has never felt so native.
France to me has always been a country I would love to visit. French is the language of love and the
way the pronunciation of the simplest words rolls off the tongue is so fascinating. To able to study the
language at such an up front and personal point of view would be an honor and humble experience.
The delectable French food, however would be the best part in my opinion. One of my main points of
traveling around is to be able to indulge in the different meals one wouldn t normally find or prepare
in my kitchen. It is well known for the French chefs to care a lot about their food and prepare every
meal with delicacy and perfectionism. The country is known for its rich history in culinary arts and
offer a wide spectrum of types of food there. Like me, this is every food lover s dream.

an animal lover, this sounds like paradise to me. The cars and streets are also smaller in size and
jaywalking isn t much of a big deal. Another small difference is taken in the homes, the bathrooms are

The History Of The Religious Holocaust Against African Slaves
Learning the history of our modern world renders useless without applying it to present day
occurrences. Throughout the timeline of this course, we ve discussed numerous events ranging from
the European arrival to the Americas, to the expansion of the US into Mexico and everything in
between. Though all topics discussed are captivating in their way, one struck me for good: the period
of the religious holocaust against African slaves implemented by the whites. As we spoke on the topic,
I couldn t stop myself from thinking that this yet hasn t finished, we are centuries in the future and still
trying to subdue cultures and religions. The religious holocaust against African slaves offers me a new
insight on France s new terror laws and why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to this religious holocaust, we have what is occurring in France against its Muslim residents
and citizens. According to the BBC, a world renown news site, these new laws will legalize the
closing of Mosque across France. It will allow the government to confine people to their hometowns
and ask for them to report daily to their local police station, and finally, it will place security
checkpoints at all main landmarks and popular areas. Though some of this may seem harmless, it isn t.
France has set up laws that would possibly make a practicing Muslim s life near to impossible, harder
than it already is, with all the prejudice against the targeted population. The fear of terrorism will
likely cause millions of civilians their civil rights, identical to the dismay of a mass slave revolt that
almost caused the loss of African traditions and practices in the new world. You may wonder why the
religious holocaust against African slaves is so crucial to the modern world. Part of studying history
and its flaws are learning from past and evolving for a brighter future. France s actions towards its
Muslim population shows regression instead of progression. If they would have some historical
knowledge of similar events and how they played out, I d bet they would handle the issue differently.
In class, we saw how even with the white s aggressive actions to eliminate

Quantitative Analysis Of Mefenamic Acid And Redox Titration
Mefenamic Acid Introduction of titration method Titration is a lab method that used to determine a
quantitative analysis which used to know the concentration of a drug or compound, and this process
happen by use a reagent which is known its concentration and its volume to calculate the another
concentration or volume, this reagent called titrant and it may be acid or base. There are many types of
titration to determine different orders of drugs and compounds like (acid base titration Redox titration
Gas phase titration Complexometric titration Zeta potential titration). The most common method for
quantitative analysis is acid base titration and redox titration. 1 Acid base titration is the method which
depends on the naturalization between acid and base in the flask then changes the color of ph.
indicator (ph.ph or methyl orange) till reach the endpoint. 2 Redox titration is the method which relies
on reduction oxidation reaction between titrant and sample and we use a redox indicator toll reach the
indicator. 3 Gas phase titration this method of quantitative analysis is occurs in gas phase. 4
Complexometric titration is depend on form a complex between titrant and sample in which we are
used a complexometric indicator which this indicator form a weak complex with sample, then the

A New Energy Efficient Drives Using Permanent Magnet...
Nowadays, because of the fast evolution of electronic device, The recent developments in permanent
magnet materials, solid state devices and microelectronic have led to the appearance of a new energy
efficient drives using permanent magnet brushless direct current motors (PMBLDCM). Brushless
direct current (BLDC) motors are preferred as small horsepower control motors because their
efficiency is very high, the operation is in a silent mode, has a compact form, contains high precision,
low maintenance, Its structure is simple, and has a large torque, etc. Hence, it is extensively used in
national defense, aerospace, robotics, industrial process control, precision machine tools, automotive
electronics, household appliances and office automation [1]. However, the problems are found in these
motor for variable speed operation over last decades keeping technology growth in power
semiconductors, microprocessors, adjustable speed drivers control schemes and permanent magnet
brushless electric motor production have been joined to enable reliable, cost effective solution for a
wide area of adjustable speed applications. As the name reveals, Brushless motors have no brushes
and commutators. In direct current (brushed) motors, the switching of current in coils of the armature
is done using the combination of brushes and commutators but in the brushless, the commutation
process is achieved with the help of electronic circuit, which diminishes the mechanic losses and the

Encounters With An Archdruid Summary
Taylor Cox AP Environmental Science 2 April 2017 Encounters with an Archdruid details the
adventures of environmentalist David Brower, as a compoundment of narratives...of journeys made in
three wildernesses on a coastal island, in a Western mountain range, and on the Colorado River in the
Grand Canyon. (McPhee, 2). Journalist John McPhee wrote the book after researching Brower s tales
of struggle against miners, developers, and even the United States Bureau of Reclamation. Encounters
with an Archdruid is broken into three sections, one for each of Bower s adventures. The first explains
Brower s interaction with Charles Park, a mineral engineer inent locating and utilizing mineral

and thus the real estate developer is also depicted as calculating like Park. Fraser possesses a vision of
development that means land is regulated and controlled by corporations, not free for the public to
use: which starkly contrasts Brower s personal views. McPhee emphasizes the fact that Fraser still
considers himself a true conservationist, despite his development plans. But Brower continued to fight
Fraser, and eventually forced Fraser to sell the land he had purchased on Cumberland Island to the
National Park Foundation, after receiving an impressive amount of support for his conservationist

  • 3. Malthus Theory And The Earth s Theory Of Overpopulation The Earth s population is growing rapidly leading to a state where human population exceeds the Earth s carrying capacity. Thomas Robert Malthus was the first economist to start the theory of population and the idea of overpopulation. He wrote his views and explanation about population and its consequences in his essay on Principles of Population which was published in 1798. The book explained the relationship between food and population, and their growth patterns. His views on the theory of overpopulation and its impact influenced many political economists and earned economics the label of the dismissal science . Malthus was concerned by the condition of poverty in the British cities during his time and the increase of population in the industrializing societies. The main idea of Malthus theory was to maintain balance between the population growth and the food for human existence, as the human population tends to grow quicker than the power in the earth to produce subsistence. Malthus was the first economists to present the views and ideas on the matter of population growth and its effect on food and the surroundings. According to Malthus Theory, human population grows exponentially at a geometric rate i.e. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on, doubling the number at each time period, whereas food production grow in much slower rate than the population, which grows at an arithmetic rate i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. Thus, Malthus shows that population grows much faster than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Changing Divorce Laws Essay Changing Divorce Laws In 1995, Statistics Canada data shows that 30% of marriages split (McGovern). Since the 1960 s, marriage and divorce have been undergoing profound changes which have altered the meaning of marriage, the chances of its ending in divorce and the circumstances attached to marriage. These changes have made it easier for couples to obtain a divorce due to the changing laws and changing morals of society. The changes include three new grounds needed to prove marital breakdown, such as your spouse committing adultery, your spouse causing mental or physical cruelty or a separation of a year it was previously three years. Divorce also impacts the family as a whole, not only the children but also the two parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monogamy was out, free love thrived, and divorce represented freedom. Enough people wanted divorce by the late 1960 s that the pressure was on to change the law. After long and bitter parliamentary debates, the federal Divorce Act was revised. Additional grounds for divorce included desertion, imprisonment, or separation for at least three years plus marital offences of physical and mental cruelty. The new law eliminated the need to appear in court in most cases often the most personally humiliating experience in the older legal procedure. The law later changed again in 1985, where it eased off yet again, to allow divorces after only a year s separation. The broad trend in Canada was to make divorce easier. It was accomplished by making it less fault oriented where most divorce applications to the courts are no longer contested which eliminates the need for a formal court hearing where both parties testify and ask for different things. With no fault splits in place, the social stigma of divorce shrank. As more people divorced the stigma weakened further. The cycle continued while the divorce rate soared. In 1951, there had been only one divorce for every 24 marriages, by 1987, one couple divorced every two couples that married (McGovern). In 1993, there were 78 000 divorces across Canada, compared to about 11 000 in 1968 before the new divorce laws came into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It provides us residents with a good time that we don t reallt get to experience on the regular. Even though the rides are broke down, and most of the time not even safe at all. It still can put a smile on someones face to know that fair will be in town soon. Something that the fair can offer that s actually something people run to the gates for is the wonderful greasy food. I have searched high and low, and the only place that I can find a good foot long corndog is at the fair. The fair will always be one of the best times in Montgomery. When I am in the middle of the midway, I do not know where to go there are so many things to choose from. I literraly need a full day to go to this fair because it is just that good. I could either go get a wristband to have unlimited rides or I could just get tickets to ride a limited amount of times. It is already known that the wristband is the best way to go if one wants to really enjoy themselves at the fair. Who would not want to go on the these faboulous dangerous rides more than once? Definitely not me. I always get the wristband. The first thing I always do is of course I go to the broke down rides and test them out. One would look at these rides and make the quick assumption of, I would not dare step a foot on this dangerous looking ride. But once that person does get on the ride they can have a really fun time. When I see a person on one of these fair rides, I always see them smiling, and having fun. Unless the ride is making them sick so I quickly turn away. So the sterotype of fair rides being boring and not fun are completely false in my opinion. After the rides before I get to the food I have to make it through the midway, and listen to the workers of the fair games yelling at me to play their games. I m a competiotor so I have to give some of these games a shot. The games at the fair are obviously rigged, prime example is the basketball shot. A regular standard basketball rim is not as ... • 6. Scatological Humor In The Movie Jackass FILM CRITIC Heaven help the unsuspecting families who wander into Adam Sandler s Eight Crazy Nights expecting a jolly animated holiday funfest. The holidays aren t very cheerful in Sandlerville, which is why the PG 13 rating mentions frequent and crude sexual humor. The MPAA doesn t mention it, but there s also a lot of scatological humor in the film, in keeping with Sandler s inexplicable fascination with defecation, flatulence and bodily fluids. If this is not a family film, what is it? Well, the audiences for Jackass may enjoy a scene where Davey, the hero, slams a sweet little old man into a Port a Potty and shoves it down a hill. When the geezer emerges at the bottom, he is still alive, but covered from head to toe with excrement. Then Davey sprays him with a garden hose, and he freezes solid. Ho, ho. Davey (who looks like and is voiced by Sandler) is a 33 year old crazy Jewish guy, the film informs us, who is up before the judge on the latest in a long series of brushes with the law, this time for drunkenness. The judge is prepared to send him away for a long time, but kindly little Whitey (also voiced by Sandler) pipes up. Whitey explains that he is the referee of the local youth basketball league, and he could use an assistant. The judge releases Davey to Whitey s custody, not explaining why he thinks this drunk and vandal would be a good role model. • 7. Secret And Forbidden Love In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The... Jordan Hendrickson Mr. Foster AP English 11 2nd period December 15, 2017 Title Nathaniel Hawthorne s book The Scarlet Letter is a story of secret and forbidden love as well as the cause and effect of this forbidden love, the setting is a Puritan colony in Boston, Massachusetts around 1750. The main character Hester Prynne, a God fearing Puritan living within this community, gets caught in the act of adultery when she is discovered to be with child whilst having no husband. During this era, the punishment for adultery forced the adulteress or adulterer to wear a scarlet letter A upon their bosom. While staying in prison, following the discovery of her sin, Hester gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, which she named Pearl. Although some may choose to look upon pearl as a gift from the devil, or as a rotten curse, Pearl grows to become a reflection of both individual and collective human conscience, a personification of the scarlet letter, and a symbol of light. Pearl represents a physical form of many character s consciences throughout the novel. For instance, she is the voice of the collective conscience within her community when she points the crooked finger at Hester in the forest. Everywhere Hester goes, Pearl must follow and so she is a constant reminder to Hester that she must wear the scarlet letter at all times, while on their walk in Chapter 16, Pearl tells her mother that the sunshine does not (274) love her and it runs away and hides itself (274)because it is afraid of the letter. However, after Hester has cast off the letter A Pearl refuses to come to her. Pearl often highlights and brings attention to Hester s scarlet letter by inquiring about its purpose, this shows that while she may represent the conscience of those around her, she is still a little girl trying to understand the world around her. Pearl is not only of manifestation of a community conscience but she is most importantly a physical manifestation of Arthur Dimmesdale s conscience. She sees most clearly his inner desires and she is attracted to him from the beginning. During their first encounter when Pearl is still practically a newborn, she reaches for Dimmesdale, and while he notices he does not give any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Ryan s Gross Sensorimotor Development Ryan exhibits primitive postural and movement strategies through the use of the tonic labyrinthine reflex in both prone and supine position. He also displays an ATNR reflex when he turns his head to the left; if this persists it can inhibit the development of his hand eye coordination along with grasp and reaching difficulties. Since Ryan s head control is beginning to be voluntary and muscles necessary for neck control are being activated. This could be considered late primitive stage moving into the early transitional stage. The development of Ryan s neck control can help his postural control. Ryan displays weight bearing through his leg when positioned into the standing position. This occurs based on his positive standing reflex, not the activation of lower extremity muscles. Even though Ryan s strategies for purposeful movements are based on reflexes, this will make it difficult for him to do activities as a typically developing child that does not rely on reflexive movement. 2. It seems like that we are living in a world where prosperity, happiness and wealth. A lot of data, such as GDP and compared graphs, convinced people that the world is safe, whereas obscure the hidden hazards. The remarkable healing power of antibiotics invites widespread and, however, often inappropriate use. This misuse and overuse of antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance among bacteria and consequent treatment complications. • 11. Business Board of Directors 2) Non executive directors are members of a business s board of directors, but are not part of the executive side of things. A non executive director normally doesn t participate in the day to day management of the business, but offer general guidance and a different perception on current problems of the business. The board often seek their contribution on particular issues like policy making and planning exercises as they are independent and will provide an impartial view. They are appointed on their wide experience, specialist knowledge and personal qualities, so that they can carry out four principal roles: 1. Strategy 2. Performance 3. Risk 4. People (Remuneration) Non executive directors (NEDS) have a duty to advise, criticise and help the development of strategy. As outsiders to the company the NEDS have a more impartial view of external factors disturbing the business s performance than the executives on the board. This will allow them to provide an educated contribution to strategy and act as a constructive critic in observing the aims and strategies created by the management team. Another key role for NEDS is that they should examine the performance of management in meeting targets that have been agreed before, checking the progress made towards achieving the objective. What is the case for Public Sector intervention if this is already happening? Talking specifically about SME s, the final report (Feb. 2004) of the European Go Digital Awareness campaign 2001 2003 shows that to help SME s to Go Digital is still a policy challenge as SME s remain sceptical about ICT and e business. This is mainly the result of: Their experience of procuring technology has often left an impression that the wrong decision was made as the expected benefits from using new technology have not materialised. This then affects businesses willingness to further invest in technology and therefore threatens their further competitiveness. Following this statement was an uproar of backlash from all corners of the country and to some has solidified the fact that Trump does not stand with the LGBT community, which he ran his campaign on. Because of this, the numbers of actually serving transgender individuals can actually be higher. These numbers alone should be a justification for the impact the transgender community can play in any scenario of combat our armed forces might indulge in, so why get rid of 15,000 troops? It was decided on June 30, 2016, that transgender Americans would be allowed to serve in our military and that policy was put into place. Here we are, a little over a year later and this subject is back in the headlines, with many currently serving and their future now very much up in the air. President Trump stated that the reason for the ban was because of the high cost and economic burden transgender individuals created. In reality the price for healthcare and pay for these soldiers isn t even a drop in the bucket of our military s current budget. The cost associated with medical care for gender transition would only increase military health care expenditures by between $2.4 million and $8.4 million each year an increase of between 0.04 and 0.13 percent in comparison, our military currently spends $84 million on erectile dysfunction pills. Along with these statistics, it is estimated that only 0.1 percent of transgender service members even seek treatments that could delay deployment (Joseph). • 18. Student Success And Support Services Program Essay Research/Policy Topic Analysis: Student Success and Support Services Program (SSSP) Background The Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) for California community colleges arose as a result of the Senate Bill 1456 with a mission to increase California community college student access and success by providing effective core matriculation services, including orientation, assessment and placement, counseling, and other educational planning services, and academic interventions, or follow up services for at risk students (Graillat, Lawrence, Quiaoit Mohr, 2016, p. 4). While this Senate Bill established the SSSP, there were other acts and bills that came before that eventually paved the way for the Student Success and Support Program. The Seymour Campbell Matriculation Act of 1986 created the matriculation process for continuing and incoming students taking courses for credit. The idea was that there should be an equal educational opportunity across California and that this would be accomplished through having the same educational services across campuses that would help students reach their educational goals (Graillat et al., 2016). Furthermore, in 1990, the Board of Governors (BOG) specified what the regulations would be for implementing the matriculation process (Graillat et al., 2016). In 1997 and 1998, Assembly Bill (AB) 1542 and AB 107 were passed. These bills extended these services to students taking noncredit courses (Graillat et al., 2016). While the goal of ... Treatments for anxiety has been created based on research found on how to tackle anxiety. A common treatment is medication. Two common medications for anxiety is serotonin reuptake inhibitor, and serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Although other drugs are used, these are the most common ( Treatment ). This suggests that since medications are the most common, more severe symptoms may need extra treatment. Anxiety has multiple treatments including psychotherapy. Psychotherapy has multiple branches, one being cognitive behavioral therapy, which focuses on management of symptoms and skills to help relaxation. Another would be cognitive restructuring, which enforces positive thinking, along with coping plans for certain situations (Landro 2). This passage suggests that psychotherapy takes a personalized approach for treating anxiety. Although the treatments main focus is to better the patient, it leaves a lot for the victim s family and future. Treatments make take a while to help, which leaves victims feeling worse ( Depression 2). This was a time in which art, culture, and science were embraced and progress sought was pursued. While progressive values were accepted, this did not mean traditional institutions such as the Roman Catholic Church did not maintain its influence on society. Religion and politics were often intertwined and ultimately influenced the works of many artists. The Church used arts as a form of communicating messages, propaganda and was able to obtain power by doing so. Many of Leonardo s works are the product of projects commissioned by churches and political leaders, which is the source of the religious themes of many of his paintings. The Medici Family, which was the family in power during this time, had a particularly strong alliance with the pope and Catholic Church. They served as bankers and accountants to the Church. During the mid 1420s, the second phase of the war between Florence and Milan occurred in which imposition of a new tax reform became imperative as the Medici looked for a way to finance the battle. The Medici did not view this imposition as a violation of religious authority. Additionally, the Medici was challenged again in 1472 as the pope and king of Naples aimed to free Florence from Medici s oppression. Da Vinci s work could be interpreted as a symbol of hope and liberation, as Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary from heaven, with news that she will conceive a holy child. This demonstrates the intermingling of religion and politics, which is very much aligned with the depiction we see in The Tribute Money and Annunciation. The depictions of divine moments captured through the medium of great Renaissance art is clearly influenced by the role of the Church at the time, and the paintings allow the viewer to enjoy the work but also reconsolidate their Christian ... Even when we discover he is only here to warn and save us. Close Encounters of the Third Kind is different in the fact that we do not threaten the alien visitors we wonder and welcome them if we wish. It was frightening to the characters but was the right thing to do in the situation. The irrationality in this film is shown not by the military forces but by the way Ronnie is unsupportive of Roy. Despites the fact it would be difficult to see your spouse obsessed with one thing and distant to your family, she should ve realized, stuck with him and supported him through the mess. Many people are like that in our society; only around for the good times, but when the going gets though they bail on those around. That to me is irrational. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda, whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent, which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can t hear it over her heart breaking.
