Heroes As Role Models
Heroes are people with courage and perseverance, have made a significant impact in people s lives,
and can be looked up to as role models. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson are
perfect examples of heroes because they stood up to the racism and sexism they received working at
NASA, and did not allow it to stop them from being the best mathematicians and scientists that they
could be. Katherine Johnson, probably the most well known of the three women, was born on 26
August, 1918, in White Sulfer Springs, West Virginia. As a young girl, her absolute curiosity and
brilliance in maths put her ahead several grades, and by the age of thirteen, she was attending high
school. When she was eighteen, she enrolled in university, and graduated as the first African American
to earn a PhD in maths. A NASA website page states, Katherine graduated with highest honors in 1937
and took a job teaching at a black public school in Virginia (Loff). She was hired for NASA, originally
called NACA, in June 1953 and was assigned a project almost immediately. In 1958, NACA became
NASA, and four years later, Katherine began working on satellite calculations to prepare for the first
American man into space. Katherine became well known among other scientists, and before John
Glenn took off into space, he said, If she [Katherine] says they re [the calculations are] good, then I m
ready to go. Katherine retired from NASA in 1986 and was awarded with the Presidential Medal of

Thomas Cole and The Hudson School of Romantic Landscape
The first American group of painters, The Hudson School of Romantic Landscapes, was lead by
Thomas Cole, who was born in 1801 in England. He went to Philadelphia and Ohio as a traveling
portrait painter in 1819. In addition, he traveled to Europe where he painted many Italian subjects, and
later many of the scenes in his paintings came from his European studies. He died in 1848 at the age
of 47. Cole s artwork represents the Romantic style of painting, especially in his famous work The
Oxbow (Fulwider 618). In the life and time around Thomas Cole, three things stand out. The major
themes in Cole s artwork, what was romantic about the Hudson River School s art, and why landscape
was a national religious symbol for Americans. A self taught artist, who lived on a bluff overlooking
the Hudson River, he was an outdoor enthusiast. He would hike throughout the area in summer, fall,
and spring, sketching the gorgeous scenes. In the winter, when his memory of specific settings faded,
he would paint the crucial mood of a place with oil paints. Reflecting his working method, his finished
work was a mixture of ideal and real. He blurred the distant vistas and painted the foreground in
painstaking detail, which suggested the infinite American landscape. His work illustrated the proud
belief that America was a fresh beginning for humanity; a primeval paradise (Strickland and Boswell
81). In addition, Cole inspired a group of painters that eventually became known as the Hudson River

Why Is Law Enforcement Important
Law Enforcement
Angela Primiano
CRJ 201
Instructor: Donald Mason
January 13, 2012
Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal
justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights
and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their
prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct
has been found. Law enforcement professionals must execute justice by upholding the law in an
ethical and constitutional manner. The United States Department of Justice seeks to prevent or resolve
community conflicts and tensions arising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe (Bandura,
1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a
broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray
and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden
that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they
work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to
understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a
differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control
theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and
classical theories, poses no obvious threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals.
(Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939 edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of
differential association appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his
theory has 9 basic postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned.
Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior.
2. Criminal behavior is learned through

Respiratory Diseases
Respiratory diseases can be classified in many different ways; by the organ involved, by the pattern of
symptoms or by the cause of the disease (Barron, 2009). Disorders of the respiratory system can be
classified into four general areas:
Restrictive conditions (fibrosis, sarcoidosis, alveolar damage, pleural effusion) Vascular diseases (
pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension)
Infectious, environmental and other diseases ( pneumonia, tuberculosis, asbestosis, particulate
pollutants): Coughing is very important, because it is the body s main method to remove dust, mucus,
saliva, and other debris from the lungs. If unable to cough can lead to infection. Smoking cigarettes
and second hand smoke are the leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How are infections of upper respiratory tract different from those of lower respiratory tract?
The main difference is the location of the infection. An upper respiratory tract infection would include
infection of the nose, nasal cavity, nasal and paranasal sinuses, the larynx and pharynex. A lower
respiratory infection would include infection of the traches, bronchi, or bronchial tree, the lungs or
pleural cavitiy.
Why are infections of the upper respiratory tract milder as compared to those pertaining to the lower
respiratory tract?
Lower rspiratory tract infections have secretions low down that can block the airways and prevent
sufficient oxygen being available to the lungs (Health Blurbs, 2015).
. Upper respriatory tract infections aren t so bad because if your nose is blocked you can breathe
through your mouth , so oxygen availability isn t much of an issue.
Describe the curative methods for each of upper and lower respiratory tract infections Treatment for
an upper respiratory tract infection may include rest, increased fluid intake, over the counter
medications to manage the symptoms, vitamin C, zinc, echinacea and nasal spray (Health Blurbs,
2015). Treatment for a lower respiratory tract infection may include increased fluid intake, NSAIDs,
antibiotics and over the counter

Tim Burton And Edward Scissorhands
As time has progressed in the same regard so has film, the cinema styles we see today contain modern
film techniques and state of the art cinema equipment, however elementally they all draw influences
from film eras of their past. Many established current day film directors have done an in depth
analysis of past film movements and often incorporate those elements in their films. Tim Burton, one
of the most esteemed directors of our time has done extensive studies particularly on films from the
German Expressionism era and often incorporates those influences as seen in his 1990 blockbuster,
Edward Scissorhands. Metropolis, in particular, regarded as one of the greatest films from the German
Expressionism era, showcases aspects of this era that Tim Burton s film directly derives from,
everything from the generally dark visuals to the development of setting and storyline. In viewing
both films and examining them side by side, it is quite clear Edward Scissorhands contains many
modern day film styles, however at the same time draws numerous influences from Metropolis and
from the German Expressionism era in general. The most astounding aspect of the German
Expressionism era is the influences it has made in films that were made far past its prime. At any point
in history films and directors incorporate clear influences from past cinematic eras, films such as
Edward Scissorhands included modern day film styles while drawing key characteristic influences
from films like Metropolis

Muscle Moment Lab Report
The purpose of the experiment in lab 5 was to see how force and EMG of the muscles would be
affected when the wrist angles were changed. In order to determine how much the myosin and actin
were interacting and how many times the muscle cell was stimulated we had to measure the force.
When the wrist was fully flexed at 90 degrees the muscle was more contracted. Therefore, causing the
sarcomere to be pushed closer together and the zone of overlap to be larger. This causes the myosin
and actin to be on top of each other making it more difficult to have a quality cross bridge formation.
This makes it harder to stimulate the muscle. As we continued to squeeze at different angles the force
would get greater as the angle became more flat. We had the

Marina Ferraz
I am Marina Ferraz, a 16 year old girl who has many goals. One of these goals is to be a better person,
and to do so I plan to help other in need in any way I can. I live in a big city in Brazil called Sao
Paulo, where I have lived my entire life. Sao Paulo, like any other big city, is a place where there are a
lot of people who need help. I really like helping others, and it became a big part of who I am. Doing
good things for others, not only myself, has become a big part of my identity. It has given me a will to
share, made me more grateful and also made me put others in mind, not only put my own feelings and
wishes as my main perspective. This all has molded me into becoming who I am.
I know that I can help people in need, so I m interested in doing some volunteer work or anything that
can help the less fortunate. This is part of my identity, which is meaningful and part of who I am. It all
began in 10th grade when my teacher created a project based on the movie Pay it Forward , and in this
project we had to do as many good deeds as possible in one semester. I went around Sao Paulo and did
volunteer work, besides small good deeds in my own neighborhood. One of my good deeds was going
around the city with a few kits containing a sandwich, some fruit, and a juice. We handed these kits
out to several homeless people we found around the city. I felt great after doing ... Show more content

Deception In Much Ado About Nothing By William Shakespeare
Deception was an essential element in most of Shakespeare s plays, whether they are comedies,
histories or tragedies. The question here is; What is the dramatic effect of deception? Does it always
lead to a downfall? And did deception always inherently evil? In Shakespeare s plays, deception had
many different faces, it could be accidental, well planned, or self inflicted, it also can be evil and pure.
Obviously, using deception for evil seems always to let to downfall, however, deception is not always
inherently evil, but can also be pure and used as a means to good ends. In each of Shakespeare s four
plays Much Ado about Nothing, As You Like It, Hamlet, and Macbeth deception as a theme took
many different forms, and lead to different ending in each play, happy ending as it which is used for
good, and downfall as it used for evil. In Much Ado about Nothing, deception as a theme seems to
surround the whole of the play, it has divided into both, pure and evil deception. This appears in
deceiving Claudio and Don Pedro that results Hero s disgrace, and fooling both Beatrice and Benedick
to believe that they love each other. Don John plays an essential role of the deception as he was the
one who deceive Claudio and Don Perdo to distrust Hero, which lead to the rejection by Claudio of
Hero in the wedding. I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in his grace, and it better fits my
blood to be disdained of all than to fashion a carriage to rob love from any, (1,

Essay about A Feminist Reading of Cheever’s The...
A Feminist Reading of The Five Forty Eight
The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever concerns the issue of a woman scorned by the
inhumane treatment she has received by men, most notably that of Blake, whose oppression serves as
the turning point in her life. This generalization is often the focus of a feminist criticism. Feminists
believe that women should have equal rights as men, and they seek to correct or supplement what they
regard as a predominantly male dominated critical perspective with a feminist consciousness (Meyer
2014). In this short story, using a feminist consciousness to read the text helps to understand the
reasoning behind Miss Dent s need to defeat the idea that males dominate over women. Miss ... Show

The next day, as soon as Miss Dent was out to lunch, he called personnel and asked them to fire her.
Then he took the afternoon off (81). Blake is too much of a guilty coward to face Miss Dent after their
affairs the night before. To rid himself of his newest problem, he simply fires her although he does not
have the guts to fire her himself. As a direct result of the hurt and scorn Miss Dent has experienced
throughout her life, mainly at the hands of Blake, she is permanently troubled. While confronting
Blake she tells him, you don t know what I ve been through. I m afraid to go out in the daylight (88).
Miss Dent s experience with a monster such as Blake has left her extremely insecure and hurt.
Blake is not alone in causing Miss Dent s destruction; although, in this story he is a stereotype of all
the men in her life who have treated her the same hurtful way. Miss Dent views Blake just like every
other man in her life. Blake acknowledges the fact that he is like all men because on the train he
noticed that he dressed like the rest of [them] as if he admitted to the existence of the sumptuary laws
(82). Every man on the train, with the exception of a few, dresses the same, in non colorful clothes.
The sumptuary laws refer to the Roman laws that regulate the type of clothes worn in public. Blake is

Qualitative Strategies
I will explain how quantitative and qualitative strategies and methods/procedures are similar and
different. In qualitative strategies, there is a focus on data collection, analysis and writing (p. 176). In
qualitative strategies usually may fall in line with survey designs and experiments. The strategies
followed the same general format such as purpose, data collection, data analysis and conclusion. The
differences between the two for methods and procedures is the following: for quantitative methods
they tend to be used in a pretest and posttest control group designs. This is done by following six steps
which include administering measures of the dependent variable, assign the participants to pairs,
randomly assign members to the control group or experimental group, expose the experimental group,
administer measures of dependent variables and finally the performance. For ... Show more content on

There are two examples of qualitative methods, but one can see that the questions ask were best
served by qualitative methods. The question what resources are available to adolescent school students
in India and Sri Lanka to deal with mental health issues? In what ways could they provide assistance?
This is best by qualitative method because you would have spoken to the adolescents to see what they
felt was available to them, that is bets conducted through interviewing. Some additional research
questions they came up with when reviewing their theoretical framework was what were the culturally
valued personal and social competencies?? What were the social stressors? As stated by the video,
qualilative research method would be effective because they were trying to understand mental health
from the perspective of people who s culture differed greatly than the researchers. They desired to

Essay about Pros and Cons of the Mandatory Seatbelt Law
An enormous division currently exists between the people who believe that automobile safety should
be an option and those that feel it must be a requirement. The federal government feels the morally
obligated to create the safest driving environment possible. On the other end of the spectrum, opinions
exist that the average driver has ability to make the choice of safety on their own. Editorials, political
assemblies, debates, and conversations have arrived on the concept of click it or ticket. This idea
refers to ticketing any motor vehicle driver and passenger that is not fastened by a seat belt.
Arguments have been made for both sides, and have been reviewed in multiple states.
One particular article has been written, by Dr. Walter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses the term ?totalitarianism? to explain that history uses justifications to commit such acts of
right infringement. Dr. Williams claims that this exemplifies the government owning our rights and
choices, and using laws to make choices for us where as our rights should apply. From a rightful stand
point, his argument of this could be considered applicable. However, the government?s stated agenda
is to constantly protect the citizens of the state via laws, rules, and social standards. One can argue that
rights are being infringed on, but the government has factually shown that deaths have decreased in
auto accidents, and therefore they succeed in protecting the state. For example, the increase in seat belt
usage has caused a 14 percent reduction in serious and fatal accidents in the state of North Carolina
(Success Stories 1999). Apparently, the placement of seat belt restrictions has allowed the safety of
citizens to continue. Beyond the safety benefit, this has allowed the lowering of insurance premiums
and savings of health care related costs (Success Stories
1999). Dr. Walter E. Williams provided an idea that the government is denying rights, however, he
refuses to discuss the idea of saving lives and health costs. A compromise should exist between rights
and responsibility, but the current policy shows a more advantage situation.
Another point discussed by Dr. Williams is the listing of statistics of government spending. He states
that $500

In Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises, various characters suffer from physical and psychological
brokenness as a result of the traumatic events of the Great War. Though Hemingway s character Lady
Brett Ashley did not serve a soldier but as a worker in a military hospital, she is a veteran of the war
nonetheless. Despite Brett s seemingly carefree and unapologetic lifestyle and personality, she is
internally fragmented like the other characters in the novel. This fragmentation surely comes from her

At the end of the novel, when Brett laments that her relationship with Jake could have been great, Jake

the reader. Brett will never commit to one man because the only true source of stability that Brett has
in her life is the instability of her romantic relationships. Like many of the other characters in the
novel, Brett is a war veteran and was thrust into a horrific environment filled with a chaos that she had

Unlike any kind of rats in the Trenches that are around them, the vermin are not out to harm souls, but
to destroy most of God s human beings. While they are not able to kill them, they are able to torment
them for years to come. This plague is the same as the smoke of the torment as it seems to rise forever

means that God does the performs for His people. If God does the work, then He gets the glory. If
mankind looks away then the smoke will never go away. Just as, right after the war, this smoke is a
forewarning that Satan s purpose in the world is coming to fulfillment as he will embrace the pending

Physical Therapy And Occupational Therapy
Physical/Occupational Therapy
Abstract
The history of Physical Therapy and Occupational was first developed in 1912; President Mary
McMillan, an executive committee of elected officers, led the association. Physical therapy is a
healthcare profession primarily concerned with the remediation of impairments and the disabilities of
people. PTs diagnose and treat individuals of all ages with injuries that limit movement and the ability
to perform functional activities in their daily lives. Occupational Therapists (OTs) work with other
members of the health care team on the assessment and treatment of conditions that affect an
individual s ability to perform daily tasks ranging from self care to high level job related activities.

The association is now headquartered in Alexander, Virginia. The association now represents more
than 85,000 members throughout the country. The American Physical Therapy Association goal is to
foster advancements in physical therapy practices, education and research. There are currently 209
institutions offer physical therapy education programs and 309 institutions offer physical therapist
assistant education programs in the United States. Because of the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) by the Department of Labor, physical therapy practices related to prevention,
work management, and job injuries to also develop. The program is very upscale in a lot of institutions
and they are very competitive when you are applying for the program.
Occupational therapy profession began in 1917. Eleanor Clark Slagle is known as the mother of
Occupational Therapy. She attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD in 1912. She was the
first to open the first professional school of occupational therapy. Dr. William Rush Dunton Jr. is

Black on Black Racism Essay
Abstract The days of picking cotton and the hierarchy of slaves are long gone but the colonial
mentality of disunity may still exists among African Americans. Some of the major conflicts that
remain at the core of this disunity, include: black on black crime, beauty and self esteem, and blacks
over representation in the criminal justice system. Although there are many reasons that support these
conflicts, one may wonder if the arrival of the social identity of blacks in America is the root cause for
the conflicts. The purpose of this quantitative study is to explore the effects of racial attitudes of
blacks on images of themselves with varying skin tones. Supplemental to the study of attitudes and
images, the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
See attached appendix A and B. The arrival of the African American identity began with slavery and
the slave master s behavior toward the field slave and the house slave. In other words, the identity of
the African American was given by European slave masters instead of their personal creation. African
women were raped and the slave master s preferential treatment of their offspring created a hierarchy
among the slaves. As author Roger Smith (2004) explained, power and privileges were given to those
with lighter complexions over those who are darker. In the days of slavery, light skin blacks were
assigned to the house while blacks with dark skin had to work the fields. (p.1). The promise of
educational opportunities were also given to slaves with lighter complexions. The indoctrination of
Jim Crow Laws and white supremacy proved to keep the institution of slavery going even after its
abolishment. Subsequent to the abolishment of slavery, blacks traveled to northern states and cities
and created their own societies. According to author G. Reginald Daniel, in his book, More than
Black, Blue Vein societies consisted of pluralistic elites within the African American community.
Membership in these societies were determined by individuals phenotypical and cultural resemblance
with European Americans (p. 4). The structural set up of these societies created an illusion of escaping

Summary Of John Howard s Response To The China Problem
Introducing the debate roughly, I shall present on how different governments, from Howard
government to Abbott government, respond to the China problem.
4.1.1 John Howard government and the development of the China question, 1996 2007
Although Howard introduced his response to the China problem during his election campaign, his
government first systemically present the problem in the 1997 Australia s Foreign and Trade Policy

grasping economic benefits; strengthening relations with the US, and obtaining an upper hand in
technologies and military forces in the next fifteen years; and contributing to regional peace and
stability, the basis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Politically, the paper argued for binding engagement. Australia attempted to promote the principle of
the rule of law in the region. Indirectly, Howard government projected soft power, favorably
intangible power of binding norms, to engage Asian powers, including China, shaping their policy
preference without coercion (Nye 2004: 5 6). Public diplomacy is also discussed in the paper as a way
to project Australia s attractive image for the 2000 Sydney Olympics (Commonwealth of Australia
1997a: 78). In addition, the paper presented clue showing Australia s determination to remains
politically close with the United States and economic close with China looking for the formation of ad
hoc issue based coalitions to show Australia s eagerness in issues actively involved (Commonwealth
of Australia 1997a: 50 51). Shortly, the 1997 Foreign and Trade Policy White Paper laid down Howard
government s grand strategy with two particular focuses on strategic implications of the rise of Asia,
arguing against the need to choose one side exclusively between American led Western camp and,
potentially in the future, Chinese led Asian camp. On the other hand, several

Archetypes In Hamlet
Archetypes are a constant throughout the classic of literature, an invaluable tool for the character s
thought process and how they ll react to everything. Even the infamous playwright and poet, William
Shakespeare, uses it to enhances his stories. For instance, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the play is known
for its archetype. For instance, Laertes is often considered as the doppelganger archetype of Hamlet.
Often, he s believed to be the only one that s able to fill in the position of equal standing with Hamlet.
However, although many people would ve come to the assumption that Laertes is Hamlet s
doppelganger, because of his desires for vengeance against the people who ve wronged him and how
his personality contrasts Hamlet s character, Ophelia is the true foil of not only Hamlet, but Laertes as
well.
However, to understand archetypes, it s a must to start with a little review on psychoanalysis,
especially its evolution. From the beginning of archetypes, it began with Carl Jung, in the late
nineteenth to the mid twentieth century, being considered the successor of psychoanalysis. Similar to
Sigmund Freud, Jung was fascinated by the human being s psyche and its evolution over time. He
believed a person s past, aspirations, and experiences shape their characters who d they become in the
future. However, while both psychologists studies revolved around a person s psyche and their mental
wellbeing, Jung primarily focused on the attributes that contributed to the psyche s

P2: Outline how legislation, policies and procedures relating to health, safety and security influence
health and social care settings.
M1: Describe how health and safety legislation, policies and procedures promote the safety of
individuals in a health or social care setting. Within health and social care there are a number of acts

settings by offering practical examples of good practice and the way that health and social care should
be delivered. They provide advice on how to comply with the law and determine what is reasonably

Analysis Of Starry Sky Starry Night
Starry! Starry! Starry! Seated around a giant table, the bandits chanted his name as placed his
mandolin in its case. Standing at the center of the table, he waved to every member of the audience
and basked in their admiration of him until a slamming on the table commanded everyone s attention.
Sighing, Starry turned to the source: Gerard. Huge frame shaking from laughter, he grabbed a nearby
cup and downed it, spilling ale into his dark beard. Tossing it aside, he beamed at Starry. Few more o
those performances, might let you live! At his side, a provocatively dressed blonde slapped Gerard and
smiled at Starry. That was wonderful, thank you, Starry. Bowing, Starry left the two as they started to

the man slapped his hand away and held it tightly. Don t touch it, please. He certainly wasn t trying to

The Religion of Buddhism is Based on Edifications of...
Buddhism is a religion predicated on the edifications of Siddhartha Gautama, who lived about 25
centuries ago in what is now Nepal and northeastern India. He came to be called the Buddha, which
betokens aroused one, after he experienced a profound realization of the nature of life, death and
subsistence. In English, the Buddha was verbalized to be enlightened, albeit in Sanskrit it is bodhi,
aroused. The two main goals of Buddhism are getting acquainted with ourselves and learning the
Buddha s edifications. To ken who we are, we require to understand that we have two natures. One is
called our mundane nature, which is composed of unpleasant feelings such as fear, vexation, and
jealousy. The other is our true nature, the component of us that is pristine, sagacious, and perfect. In
Buddhism, it is called the Buddha nature. The only distinguishment between us and the Buddha is that
we have not aroused to our true nature. Buddhists do not believe in a single, omniscient God. The
Buddhist understanding of the universe includes the apperception that there are an abundance of
aspects of this universe; this authenticity, that we don t understand. Through analytical rumination and
other practices we can understand the deeper truths about this authenticity; truths that is
indecipherable with our everyday minds. When we reach enlightenment we will understand it, and
until then there is no reason to believe that there either is or isn t a Deity. Buddhists aren t

Online Data Collection and Personal Privacy-a Review of...
Introduction
The growth of the internet enters into marketing world (Kımıloğlu, 2004). The internet is used as
another marketing tool in several purposes; a cost effective advertising channel (Eri, Islam and Daud,
2011), a resource for customers personal data obtaining (Pope and Lowen, 2009), and a market place
(Lwin, Wirtz and Williams, 2007). Apart from those rising benefits, there are also problems and
ethical issues growing aside. Privacy seems to be the biggest issue that marketers have to deal with the
growth marketing use of the internet (Pitta, Franzak and Laric, 2003; Miyazaki, 2008). Many
researches found that privacy could have effects on trust, loyalty, and attitude on customers toward

personal data to create information with intention of selling it; this approach of data collecting tends
to be the most invasive to personal privacy perspectives.
Miyazaki (2008) states that the invasion of personal privacy of data collecting occurs when it is
combined by two perspectives; tracking data and information of customers (Kımıloğlu, 2004), and the
lack of information about how data is collected or is used and ability to control. The latter seems to be
a huge problem issue and privacy invasion (Dommeyer and Gross, 2003; Pitta, Franzak and Laric,
2003; Dubelaar, Jevons and Parker, 2003; Christiansen, 2011). There are many undisclosed
circumstances of using personal information that threat customers privacy for example price adjusting
and shopping pattern tracking. Insurance companies measure individual s risk of injury and death
based on personal information of the internet searches and blogs, then accordingly adjust one s
insurance price (Pitta, Franzak and Laric, 2003; Christiansen, 2011). Providing a club card to use in
supermarkets for customers to collect points allows supermarkets to track consumers shopping
patterns (Pitta, Franzak and Laric, 2003).
As the increase of data collection and media reports of its affect (Pitta, Franzak and Laric, 2003; Ha,
2004), privacy concern increases on customers (Pitta, Franzak and Laric, 2003; Ha, 2004; Spake,

from January 20, 1953 to January 20, 1961, winning the presidential election in 1956. In 1956, his

helping the nation as a whole helped him win the election even with his health conditions. During his
time as president, the biggest challenge he faced was how to deal with the Civil Rights issue. Many
African Americans and minorities were still discriminated in this time period. Also, after the Cold

A Comparison Of Detective Marvel And Detective Comics
It is without a doubt that DC and Marvel, these gigantic comic book companies, have been extremely
influential. Both creating characters, stories, and lores, that will surely stand the test of time. Creating
references and influencing our pop culture to great lenghts. However, it is quite evident which of the
two companies has had, not just the most successful run, but the most influential run. Detective
Comics, better known as DC, is superior due it s content, film production, and overall impact on
history. First of all, DC comics has some of the most recognized icons and characters. Just to name a
few, there is Batman and his infamous The Batsignal . The Batsignal first appeared in the February
1942, in the comic book Detective Comics #60. DC comics also have the rights to Superman, one of
its first comic book superheroes, a well known icon. DC has a great collections of characters, and a
plethora of superheroes. Some of such heroes being, Superman, Batman, Zatman, the Flash, Captain
Atom, Robin, Wonder Woman, and the list continues. All of these Superheros have something in
common, emphasises on the super, they all are extremely godlike. They were all born super, either by
inheritance in the case of Batman, or powers at birth. They are born powerful, and are deeply
motivated by justice. This philosophy is quite interesting, however at time sound unattractive, where
the audience finds it hard to relate to these heroes. In spite of this gap between audience and hero,

The Atomic Bomb On The World War II
In August of 1945, President Truman made an important decision to drop two atomic bombs days
apart in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I completely agree with President Truman s
decision to drop the atomic bomb on the two Japanese cities because I believe it is the main reason
that ended World War II. Being from Malaysia, my grandparents often told me stories of their
sufferings during World War II. As Singapore s former Prime Minister concurred, the Japanese
soldiers were mean, brutal and vicious towards the civilians, and if the atomic bombs were not
dropped to end the war, hundreds of thousands of civilians would have been perished. Another reason
I support the use of atomic bombs to end the war is because World War II has the most war related
deaths in history of mankind, if the war were to continue, more people would have died and Japan will
rise and hold the most power in the world. Many minority Asian countries that were invaded would
lose their culture, language and citizens, and hence the world might be different today. The droppings
of these two bombs are arguably the most pivotal moment for Japan to end the war. First, Pearl Harbor
was destroyed by a surprise Japanese attack in December 7, 1941. With such an important event in
modern American History, President Truman has always thought of retaliating to Japan. President
Truman s thought of using the atomic bombs was to end the war as soon as possible, so that the U.S.

Pagosa Springs Research Paper
In Colorado, a city called Pagosa Springs is captured by a skyline of mountains. The mountains reach
so high into the sky that snow remains on its peak into the summer months. Snow drapes the
landscape for as far as the eye can see, and when the sun peeks out from behind the mountains on the
fresh snowfall in the endless field, a peace is draped across the city. While the snow covered
mountains sparkle in the sunny day, the snow is discovered to have another use. Once the sun starts
making the mountains cry in May, the rivers provide a net for the creation of the rapids which are
much enjoyed during the summer months. The rushing frigid water provides relief and entertainment
in the hot days of June and July. The river bed is compiled of jagged stones lying among their
ancestors waiting to be molded into the weathered rocks. These rocks, while they may be wanted
when they are silky smooth, are dangerous when compiled of knifes and sharp edges. This becomes a
problem when little kids play in the river and jump around and even fall. ... Show more content on

Research on the Legalization of Marijuana Essay examples
Research on the Legalization of Marijuana
Americans have been trying to legalize marijuana for years. It seems that all of their opinions divide
into three basic groups. Many think that it is not worth legalizing marijuana, many seem to think it
should be legalized, and a group of people say it should only be legalized for medicinal purposes.
In the following paragraphs I will try to show you reason for all three opinions.
My hopes of doing this research project were to specifically determine what effects marijuana in
combination with different substances had on the body. I also decided to determine the differences
between marijuana and tobacco, due to the high misconceptions about both of them in society today.
First of all, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marijuana usually does not contain more than 1 percent of THC. There are stronger drugs related to
THC, such as hash oil , which can contain up to a 28 percent THC level. There have been some cases
where street marijuana has been found to contain up to 5 percent THC content. That is very potent for
normal marijuana, and is probably very hard to come by in the United States. Other countries seem to
use different forms of THC related drugs such as hashish, and hemp. Both of these contain more THC
than marijuana. As far as long term effects of tobacco and marijuana go, they are about the same.
Cancer should appear in the lungs of a tobacco user earlier due to the amount the tobacco user smokes
in relation to a normal marijuana smoker. There have been many assumptions that marijuana will
cause long term brain damage and so on, but, clinically, none of this has ever been proven. In fact, in a
college survey, the students who use the drug regularly possessed a higher GPA than those who do not
use. This is an entire different subject, but it was interesting to learn.
Both tobacco and marijuana contain tar. Marijuana contains a little more and will actually feel heavier
on the lungs after smoking. Tar has been found to produce tumors on the skin of animals that it is
applied to. Cancer has definitely been related to

Playstation Vs Xbox Essay
You sitting on the couch! Do you even game, bro!? Well if you do come down here to Walmart where

they are also extremely alike.
First Xbox, let s look at the design and user interface. The Xbox is huge way bigger than the PS4. On
the top half of the the console is a vent which means if you want to put something on top of it forget
about it. Towards the backside of the Xbox is three USB ports, but only two are for controllers. The
controller ports are in the back are very awkward because there usually in the front. The Xbox runs off
a Windows 10 UI (User Interface) which makes the home screen more complex and harder to find
things but very nice looking. Now let s look at the exclusive titles for the Xbox. Some titles include

The plagues in England Essay
In England there were three specific plagues that i will be talking about, they are the bubonic plague
The Black Death , pulmonary plague and the pneumonic plague. These plagues were really interesting
to read about. They were so bad that many people died from them. The doctors didn t know what was
wrong with the people since there was that much new technology in the thirteenth century. The black
death was a deadly epidemic that was spread from Asia to Europe by twelve trading ships that were at
the port of Messina after a long expedition through the Black Sea in the thirteen hundreds by October.

If plague is evolved within the flea and rat population it is called enzootic. As the plague multiplies, it
blocks the passage of blood to the flea s stomach then threatens starvation; the flea disgorges blood
that is infected with many bacilli into the bloodstream of its entertainer, causing death. The black
plague was not only caused by cargoes from the east, but by the seasonal changes in rat and flea
ecology. London had suffered epidemics in 1563, 1593, 1603, and 1625; quantities of people died of
the disease. At first the Bubonic plague was in the west rather than in the east. Unfortunately the
plague became immune to the people. The shift in population, with changes in rat and fleas caused
major deaths and diseases in humans. When the plague of 1665 disappeared they didn t need an
explanation. The rats had acquired the immunity. During this horrible time, the weaker people died
while the stronger people developed great immunities. This explained why the plague established
itself far more strongly in London than in any other part of the country. The black rat was later then
replaced with the brown rat, since they lived underground and the fleas wouldn t bite people like the
black rats fleas would.
There are three types of plagues all occurring within humans. Bubonic plague consists in sixty to
eighty percent mortal. The first symptoms appear between thirty six

United States and the Japanese-Americans Essay
United States and the Japanese Americans
The United States of America has had a rich and complex history that showcases a nation on the
move, a nation based on the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and a nation that is
based on equality under the law and considered to be the land of opportunity for all. However, these
American ideals are not always put into practice, especially when it comes to the treatment of
immigrants. Whether these immigrants are Irish, Jewish, Italian, etc, they have not been afforded the
same rights and privileges as their American brethren. One such group of immigrants that gets

In 1913, the Alien Land Bill disqualified Japanese immigrants from owning land in California, and in
1924, the U.S. Congress, for all intents and purposes, disallowed any further immigration of Japanese
people (Houston and Houston xi). This last act in this sequence is a culmination of anti Asian
sentiment. First, the United States would not give naturalization rights to Asian immigrant or even
allow these immigrants to apply for citizenship. Then the U.S. government would not allow them to
own land and finally stopped their immigration to the United States altogether. Although these
particular acts do not specifically target the Japanese but Asian Americans in general, these actions by
the U.S. government definitely do not aid in the attempt of Japanese immigrants to successfully
become U.S. citizens and integrate into American society.
However, that does not mean that the U.S. did not create certain understandings with the Japanese
government to choke off Japanese immigration. In 1905, the Russo Japanese War was won by the
Japanese, the first time that an Asian power had ever defeated a premiere European power. With this
shocking victory came much anti Japanese sentiment. In November 1906, the San Francisco Chronicle
reported that Japanese immigrants were loyal only to the Japanese empire and that every Japanese
immigrant was a spy for the Empire of Japan. To further this hostility, the San Francisco School Board

Heroes Research Assignment The definition of a hero is someone who is idolized or admired for their
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Real life heroes are exactly that. These
outstanding people are recognized for the good in the world that they have helped to accomplish. A
person who represents these qualities is Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio. As an award winning actor and
an avid environmentalist, he has had an influential role in not only entertaining people but also helping
the environment. Leonardo DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles, California on November 11, 1974
making him 42 years old. He is an only child of Irmelin George DiCaprio. His parents divorced when

The LDF has contributed to causes in many other ways including how the foundation will provide
environmental organizations around the globe working on conservation projects around $15 million in
the form of grants and will continue to support these projects yearly (Ridgeway). The LDF foundation
has also partnered up with Ocean 5, a charity focused on establishing marine reverse, reducing
overfishing, and generally protecting the 5 oceans to the best of their abilities, and the LDF has also
provided 430,000 people in Tanzania, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and Darfur with access to clean
water. DiCaprio himself has also gotten involved in his own projects through the foundation. While on
set of a movie he was in, Blue Diamond (2008), DiCaprio visited 24 orphaned children at SOS
Children s Village Charity in Mozambique and offered them all extra roles in the film. The foundation
decided to help support them and still does to this day (Ridgeway). Leonardo DiCaprio s foundation
has already impacted the world in a big way by getting involved in so many other projects that will

Victim A Summary
My assignment is based on a murder that I attended in 20??. It was complex in regards to the issues at
the crime scene involving primary and secondary scenes. There were two victims, and two offenders.
The offenders were not at the scene when officers arrived. The first victim Victim A who eventually
passed away was basically brain dead on my arrival and the other victim Victim B had sustained
damage to his brain, which will ultimately affect him for the rest of his life. Both Victims were related
Nephew and Uncle. Overall, the crime scene/s had been contaminated by the victims families, and
other residences of the unit. Below is a summary of what occurred and then there will discuss the

To complicate matters, one of the attending police were called away to another housing commission
unit, as there a male person, who was suffering cardiac arrest, as a result of drug overdose. Whilst this
was unrelated, it impacted on the resources of police, as well as requiring a further paramedic
response. Police treated this incident separately, as it may have eventuated into natural or unnatural
death under the s. 3 of the Coroners Act 1995 (Tas). There were also implications and considerations
under the Misuse of Drugs Act 2001 (Tas). Once CIB and forensics arrived, a crime scene was
declared by the duty inspector in accordance with S. 63 of the Police Offences Act 1935 (Tas), which
gave the police considerable powers under S. 63 (A) of that Act, to stop people entering, examining
the scene, and take anything connected with the incident. Later the incident control bus was taken to
the scene, which became the Police Forward Command Post (PFCP), in accordance with S. 64 of the
Police Manual 2011 (Tas). The CIB set up a crime scene management area, where witness could
attend and speak to police individually and in confidence. Attending CIB, then started to interrogate
the RDS records, and it was around this time that Offender A was identified from his earlier dealings
with police. The attending officers was contacted about the interaction, and they informed CIB, that

The Social Gospel Moverment
The Social Gospel The Social Gospel is the idea of social problems being looked and fixed with a
Christian point of view. The Gospel will always stay the same and we should refer the Social Gospel
as living out the Gospel. The goal of the Social Gospel Movement was to tie salvation and good work
together. They thought people should live the life of a Jesus Christ. Classes, counseling, job training
and libraries were provided by churches to act according to the Social Gospel. The origins and issues
of the Social Gospel Movement, how the Social Gospel related to a Progressive Era, the work of
Walter Rauschenbusch, and how Social Gospel relates to the Gospel will be covered in this essay. The
Social Gospel started in the early twentieth century as an intellectual movement. The purpose was to
live out The Lord s Prayer during our day to day lives. Social Gospel applied Christian ethics to social
problems like the issues of social justice. A group of liberal Protestant progressives started the
movement because they weren t satisfied with social problems around them and they did not feel
enough was being done to solve the problems. Social problems associated with rapid industrialization,
urbanization, and increasing immigration of the Gilded Age were the primary concern. The concept of
a society that respects elements of justice is called social justice. Social justice is usually applied to the

Pros And Cons Of The Cosmological Argument
The Cosmological Argument has several forms, but is essentially a proof for the existence of the God
of classical theism. It investigates to respond to the human wonder for answers to questions like who
created the universe? It is an a posteriori argument, meaning that it is based on our experience of the
world around us. The argument has been around for many years, but it was St. Thomas Aquinas in his
book Summa Theologica who established the argument as we know it today. Aquinas had five proofs
for the existence of God, of which three are cosmological; they are the First Cause Argument, the
Prime Mover Argument and the Argument from Contingency. The First Cause Argument is troubled
with the idea that all things have a cause and if we trace back the chain of causes, there must be an
original cause which began everything else. People take this cause without a cause to be God. In a
similar way the Prime Mover Argument declares that everything has to be moved by something and
then a chain of movement is constructed up with each items movement resting on the movement of the
item before it. Since the Cosmological Argument rejects infinity, this chain of movement must have
been started by something, because it is by our own experience that all things ... Show more content

It rejects the idea of an infinite universe because as time is always being added on, time cannot be
infinite. This argument was also discovered in the western world by William L. Craig, who revised it
to some extent. The argument states that if the universe was infinite then all of time would exist
simultaneously. A good example of this idea would be Hilbert s paradox of the Grand Hotel, which
was introduced by David Hilbert and it proved that a fully occupied hotel with infinitely many rooms
may still accommodate additional guests, even infinitely many of them and that this process may be
repeated infinitely

Mao Zedong And The Cultural Revolution
Cultural Revolution
Mao Zedong rose to power in 1949 founding the People s Republic Of China. His plan the Great Leap
Foward to make China on par with other powerful countries had failed miserably. After the failure of
The Great Leap Forward, Mao Zedong s positioning in the government had weakened. To regain total
control over the government, Mao Zedong launched what was called the Cultural Revolution. There is
no words for how The Cultural Revolution impacted China. This major event is viewed as China s
cruel history because of the terrorism of the Red Guards, the attacks on the old generation, and the
well educated population, and the death of 20 millions people. To this day, Mao Zedong s legacy still
remains.

The Red Guards created posters that were hanging in places where it can be seen by the most people
and stated We pledge, in order to protect the Party Central Committee and our great leader Chairman
Mao, to shed resolutely the last drop of our blood. The posters served as a warning to any anti socialist
revisionists or enemies of Mao. Many more groups started to appear borrowing the name of the Red
Guards and started to rebel in their own ways. On August 18, around 11 million Red Guards had came
together to listen to Chairman Mao, he praised them and urged them to find and neutralize
revisionists. The Red Guards were given orders to get rid of the old fours, old ideas, old cultures, old
customs, and old habits (China s Cultural Revolution Begins: May 1966). Mao believed in order to
completely change the society the old fours must be rid of. The Red Guards targeted mostly the
intellectual population, the elderly, teachers, and school officials. The Red Guards terrorized the
citizens by beating them to death or threatened to and most of the time the Red Guards resolved to
violence. Fear was raised as the Red Army strolled around, no one could offend them or else they
would be expected for the worse. This period of time was referred to the red terror.
Chairman Mao considered the old generation as obstacle to his plan, Mao wanted the new generation
to teach the old

Kid Licks Poem Analysis
Hi friends, I recently ran across a new organic edible polish. Kid Licks. When I was a kid, I bit my
nails. Religiously! It didn t occurr to me how unsanitary it was, or how ugly it made my nails. I was a
little kid and didn t care...yet. Can you imagine what I would have done with edible nail polish? This
relatively new company, Kid Licks (see www.kidlicks.com) came up with a concept that allows littlies
to paint their own nails safely. The polishes are organic and safe to consume. The line consists of only
three colors, but they re working on expanding their collection. The colors are Barley Grass Green,
Beet Red, and Sour Carrot Orange. Since the polishes are essentially food and preservative free, they

Philip Randolph s The Messenger
Born on April 15th 1889 in Crescent City, Florida Philip Randolph was the second son of James and
Elizabeth Randolph. Both of his parents were strong supporters of equal rights for African American.
When Philip was two years old his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he lived for most of
his teenage life. Young Philip had a close relationship with his older brother William. He used to play
role playing games with his brother where they would advocate for Rights of African American.
Randolph attended Cookman Institute one of the most prominent institute for higher education for
blacks in the country. In 1911 Philip moved to New York where he attended a city college. Which

Green. Around this time Randolph joined the socialist party. In 1917 during World War 1 Randolph
and Chandler Owen founded a political magazine, The Messenger. In which they published articles
which demanded inclusion of more blacks in the armed forces and the war industry, and higher wages.
They felt that everyone despite the color of their skin should be treated equally. The Messenger in
current time is now thought of as one of the most brilliantly written works in African American
journalism. At this time Randolph tried to unionize African American shipyard workers in Virginia
and elevator operators in New York City. In 1920 1922 he unsuccessfully ran for offices in New York
State on the Socialist Party Ticket. When Philip realized that he didn t get elected he refused to be sad
and got right back up to fight for the cause. Philip used the experience and knowledge that came with
the loss to better himself, so he could be more effective in his fight for equal rights of African
Americans. By this time Randolph was more than convinced that full integration of black workers into
the American trade union and creating new unions for Blacks was the best way to improve their

Texas Is The Second Largest State Essay
The United States as a nation has its share of population increases and Texas is no stranger to such
growth. Being the second largest state, it boasts over 268 thousand square miles of land and according
to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Texas was at 25.1 million people with the estimated
total population around 27.5 million for 2015 which is an increase of over 2.4 million people just in
Texas alone. Out of 25.1 million Texans, 37.6 percent noted themselves to be of the Hispanic or
Latino race (Data Access). In 1970, the U.S. Census asked only 5 percent of the population if they
were of Hispanic or Latino decent or origin, and on the 1980 census, 100 percent of the population
was asked (Gauthier) and it became that the population of immigrants in this category have been
expanding. Texas has gone from three million inhabitants in 1900 to over 18 million in almost one
hundred years and though the trend has slowed slightly, Texas is still ranked as the fastest growing
state in the U.S. The Lone Star State s immigration population and high birthrates of its diverse
citizenry have transformed the demographics of the 28th U.S. state and because of this, specifically
the Hispanic immigration, future politics must be addressed and changed.
In 1845 after Texas statehood was granted, and Americans were migrating westward, this new land
opened up opportunities not only for migrants from the eastern U.S who went in search of economic
opportunity such as land

The Ford And His Creation Of The First Mainstream Car
In this work we look at the past of the motor vehicle. We recognize Henry Ford and his creation of the
first mainstream car. We praise his pricing strategy used to make this car a household product. We dig
to find out which manufacturer brought us the conventional car control layout. Then we jump ahead to
our modern age of cars and look at the ways engineers are finding ways to replace mechanical systems
with electric ones. We then delve into the world of alternative power methods, primarily the hybrid,
hydrogen, and electric options. Lastly we touch base on the enthusiasts concern that the car scene is
dying. For many people cars are just ways of transportation, a tool to get them from point A to point B.
To others they are a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being priced this economically took cars from being toys owned by the more fortunate to tools for the
everyday middle class. Many have gone as far as giving Henry Ford credit for allowing people to
leave their immediate surroundings. The Model T was sold until 1927, ending its run at an astounding
15 million units sold (Automobiles).
Many would assume then that a car that sold as well as the Model T must have the same layout as our
modern vehicles, but quite the contrary can be found. Top Gear reports that the first motor vehicle to
have a modern layout, with the steering wheel in front of the driver, the gas on the right, the brake in
the center, and the clutch on the left was the Cadillac Type 53 (Top Gear). The Type 53 had a short run
at only one year, but the ideas its engineers presented to the world forever changed the motor industry.
However, this was done not through the sales of the Type 53, as it was always overshadowed by the
Model T and never gained popularity. The layout we have become accustomed to was noticed by a
British company: Austin Motors. Austin took this layout and based their well selling Austin 7 around
it. The Austin 7 then was the first mainstream automobile with a modern layout.
The auto market continued to grow at a rapid pace after this. It progressed to the point where at one
time at least one in six jobs were auto related. However, as

Role Of Motivation In American Beauty
The film American Beauty is a motivational and inspirational movie based around the modern day to
day lives of two families in a middle class suburban life. This movie shines by showing viewers an
introspective on the emotional and mental challenges that the average person goes through internally
that challenge them and who they are. While all of the characters have their own background and
context behind their motivations in life the main character s is by far the most interesting. Lester
Burnham is a middle aged man who is living an unfulfilled life. He has family problems, work
problems, no friends and no aspiration. During the movie he is depicted as being a very timid, lonely,
and unmotivated man. Although going through these emotionally draining experiences of a dead end
job and loneliness he manages to find a catalyst that helps him escape his depression and find who he
truly can become. This catalyst is his daughters close friend Angela of whom he creates an infatuation
for that gives him the motivation to make changes to himself that he needs in order to express himself
and escape the situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is not motivated in life, has no pride in his work, and is extremely repressed as a man due to his

responsible for not being the person he could have been to help his daughter find happiness in her life.
Eventually, all of these events add up to a break in his depression that cause him to change everything
about his life and help him rediscover who he is as well as those around

Sacrifice Of Iphigenia
Iphigenia has been apart of many mythological stories, showing the harshness of people. The myth of
Iphigenia was said to be that she was sacrificed for the mistake of her father, Agamemnon. He was
setting out to fight in the battle of Troy. The story of Iphigenia represents the sadness and sorrow felt
for her and the identification of the struggle she experienced. Both The Sacrifice Of Iphigenia by
Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Iphigenia by Alfred, Lord Tennyson use the myth of Iphigenia to
indicate that inhumane, egocentric people will sacrifice others in order to defend themselves. After
analyzing the poem Iphigenia, it can be acknowledged that Alfred Lord Tennyson takes in deep
consideration of Iphigenia s pain. This can be exhibited on line 1 of the poem as Iphigenia says I was
cut off from hope in that sad place (Analysis). The tone of the poem could be utilized as woe and
upsetting, establishing the fact Iphigenia is in distress and needs help. There is little hope,
contemplating the idea nobody will appear to help (Analysis). The quote The stern black bearded
kings, with wolfish eyes, waiting to see me die, is used in terms of her sacrifice, exterminating the
idea of hope for Iphigenia for the time being (Analysis). Alfred, Lord ... Show more content on

  • 2. Heroes As Role Models Heroes are people with courage and perseverance, have made a significant impact in people s lives, and can be looked up to as role models. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson are perfect examples of heroes because they stood up to the racism and sexism they received working at NASA, and did not allow it to stop them from being the best mathematicians and scientists that they could be. Katherine Johnson, probably the most well known of the three women, was born on 26 August, 1918, in White Sulfer Springs, West Virginia. As a young girl, her absolute curiosity and brilliance in maths put her ahead several grades, and by the age of thirteen, she was attending high school. When she was eighteen, she enrolled in university, and graduated as the first African American to earn a PhD in maths. A NASA website page states, Katherine graduated with highest honors in 1937 and took a job teaching at a black public school in Virginia (Loff). She was hired for NASA, originally called NACA, in June 1953 and was assigned a project almost immediately. In 1958, NACA became NASA, and four years later, Katherine began working on satellite calculations to prepare for the first American man into space. Katherine became well known among other scientists, and before John Glenn took off into space, he said, If she [Katherine] says they re [the calculations are] good, then I m ready to go. Katherine retired from NASA in 1986 and was awarded with the Presidential Medal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Thomas Cole and The Hudson School of Romantic Landscape The first American group of painters, The Hudson School of Romantic Landscapes, was lead by Thomas Cole, who was born in 1801 in England. He went to Philadelphia and Ohio as a traveling portrait painter in 1819. In addition, he traveled to Europe where he painted many Italian subjects, and later many of the scenes in his paintings came from his European studies. He died in 1848 at the age of 47. Cole s artwork represents the Romantic style of painting, especially in his famous work The Oxbow (Fulwider 618). In the life and time around Thomas Cole, three things stand out. The major themes in Cole s artwork, what was romantic about the Hudson River School s art, and why landscape was a national religious symbol for Americans. A self taught artist, who lived on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River, he was an outdoor enthusiast. He would hike throughout the area in summer, fall, and spring, sketching the gorgeous scenes. In the winter, when his memory of specific settings faded, he would paint the crucial mood of a place with oil paints. Reflecting his working method, his finished work was a mixture of ideal and real. He blurred the distant vistas and painted the foreground in painstaking detail, which suggested the infinite American landscape. His work illustrated the proud belief that America was a fresh beginning for humanity; a primeval paradise (Strickland and Boswell 81). In addition, Cole inspired a group of painters that eventually became known as the Hudson River ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why Is Law Enforcement Important Law Enforcement Angela Primiano CRJ 201 Instructor: Donald Mason January 13, 2012 Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct has been found. Law enforcement professionals must execute justice by upholding the law in an ethical and constitutional manner. The United States Department of Justice seeks to prevent or resolve community conflicts and tensions arising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe (Bandura, 1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and classical theories, poses no obvious threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals. (Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939 edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of differential association appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his theory has 9 basic postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned. Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior. 2. Criminal behavior is learned through ... Disorders of the respiratory system can be classified into four general areas: Restrictive conditions (fibrosis, sarcoidosis, alveolar damage, pleural effusion) Vascular diseases ( pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension) Infectious, environmental and other diseases ( pneumonia, tuberculosis, asbestosis, particulate pollutants): Coughing is very important, because it is the body s main method to remove dust, mucus, saliva, and other debris from the lungs. How are infections of upper respiratory tract different from those of lower respiratory tract? The main difference is the location of the infection. An upper respiratory tract infection would include infection of the nose, nasal cavity, nasal and paranasal sinuses, the larynx and pharynex. A lower respiratory infection would include infection of the traches, bronchi, or bronchial tree, the lungs or pleural cavitiy. Why are infections of the upper respiratory tract milder as compared to those pertaining to the lower respiratory tract? Lower rspiratory tract infections have secretions low down that can block the airways and prevent sufficient oxygen being available to the lungs (Health Blurbs, 2015). . Upper respriatory tract infections aren t so bad because if your nose is blocked you can breathe through your mouth , so oxygen availability isn t much of an issue. Describe the curative methods for each of upper and lower respiratory tract infections Treatment for an upper respiratory tract infection may include rest, increased fluid intake, over the counter medications to manage the symptoms, vitamin C, zinc, echinacea and nasal spray (Health Blurbs, 2015). • 6. Tim Burton And Edward Scissorhands As time has progressed in the same regard so has film, the cinema styles we see today contain modern film techniques and state of the art cinema equipment, however elementally they all draw influences from film eras of their past. Many established current day film directors have done an in depth analysis of past film movements and often incorporate those elements in their films. Tim Burton, one of the most esteemed directors of our time has done extensive studies particularly on films from the German Expressionism era and often incorporates those influences as seen in his 1990 blockbuster, Edward Scissorhands. Metropolis, in particular, regarded as one of the greatest films from the German Expressionism era, showcases aspects of this era that Tim Burton s film directly derives from, everything from the generally dark visuals to the development of setting and storyline. In viewing both films and examining them side by side, it is quite clear Edward Scissorhands contains many modern day film styles, however at the same time draws numerous influences from Metropolis and from the German Expressionism era in general. The most astounding aspect of the German Expressionism era is the influences it has made in films that were made far past its prime. At any point in history films and directors incorporate clear influences from past cinematic eras, films such as Edward Scissorhands included modern day film styles while drawing key characteristic influences from films like Metropolis ... • 7. Muscle Moment Lab Report The purpose of the experiment in lab 5 was to see how force and EMG of the muscles would be affected when the wrist angles were changed. In order to determine how much the myosin and actin were interacting and how many times the muscle cell was stimulated we had to measure the force. When the wrist was fully flexed at 90 degrees the muscle was more contracted. Therefore, causing the sarcomere to be pushed closer together and the zone of overlap to be larger. This causes the myosin and actin to be on top of each other making it more difficult to have a quality cross bridge formation. This makes it harder to stimulate the muscle. • 8. Marina Ferraz I am Marina Ferraz, a 16 year old girl who has many goals. One of these goals is to be a better person, and to do so I plan to help other in need in any way I can. I live in a big city in Brazil called Sao Paulo, where I have lived my entire life. Sao Paulo, like any other big city, is a place where there are a lot of people who need help. I really like helping others, and it became a big part of who I am. Doing good things for others, not only myself, has become a big part of my identity. It has given me a will to share, made me more grateful and also made me put others in mind, not only put my own feelings and wishes as my main perspective. This all has molded me into becoming who I am. I know that I can help people in need, so I m interested in doing some volunteer work or anything that can help the less fortunate. This is part of my identity, which is meaningful and part of who I am. It all began in 10th grade when my teacher created a project based on the movie Pay it Forward , and in this project we had to do as many good deeds as possible in one semester. I went around Sao Paulo and did volunteer work, besides small good deeds in my own neighborhood. One of my good deeds was going around the city with a few kits containing a sandwich, some fruit, and a juice. We handed these kits out to several homeless people we found around the city. • 9. Deception In Much Ado About Nothing By William Shakespeare Deception was an essential element in most of Shakespeare s plays, whether they are comedies, histories or tragedies. The question here is; What is the dramatic effect of deception? Does it always lead to a downfall? And did deception always inherently evil? In Shakespeare s plays, deception had many different faces, it could be accidental, well planned, or self inflicted, it also can be evil and pure. Obviously, using deception for evil seems always to let to downfall, however, deception is not always inherently evil, but can also be pure and used as a means to good ends. In each of Shakespeare s four plays Much Ado about Nothing, As You Like It, Hamlet, and Macbeth deception as a theme took many different forms, and lead to different ending in each play, happy ending as it which is used for good, and downfall as it used for evil. In Much Ado about Nothing, deception as a theme seems to surround the whole of the play, it has divided into both, pure and evil deception. This appears in deceiving Claudio and Don Pedro that results Hero s disgrace, and fooling both Beatrice and Benedick to believe that they love each other. Don John plays an essential role of the deception as he was the one who deceive Claudio and Don Perdo to distrust Hero, which lead to the rejection by Claudio of Hero in the wedding. I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in his grace, and it better fits my blood to be disdained of all than to fashion a carriage to rob love from any, (1, ... • 10. Essay about A Feminist Reading of Cheever’s The... A Feminist Reading of The Five Forty Eight The short story The Five Forty Eight by John Cheever concerns the issue of a woman scorned by the inhumane treatment she has received by men, most notably that of Blake, whose oppression serves as the turning point in her life. This generalization is often the focus of a feminist criticism. Feminists believe that women should have equal rights as men, and they seek to correct or supplement what they regard as a predominantly male dominated critical perspective with a feminist consciousness (Meyer 2014). In this short story, using a feminist consciousness to read the text helps to understand the reasoning behind Miss Dent s need to defeat the idea that males dominate over women. Miss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next day, as soon as Miss Dent was out to lunch, he called personnel and asked them to fire her. Then he took the afternoon off (81). Blake is too much of a guilty coward to face Miss Dent after their affairs the night before. To rid himself of his newest problem, he simply fires her although he does not have the guts to fire her himself. As a direct result of the hurt and scorn Miss Dent has experienced throughout her life, mainly at the hands of Blake, she is permanently troubled. While confronting Blake she tells him, you don t know what I ve been through. I m afraid to go out in the daylight (88). Miss Dent s experience with a monster such as Blake has left her extremely insecure and hurt. Blake is not alone in causing Miss Dent s destruction; although, in this story he is a stereotype of all the men in her life who have treated her the same hurtful way. Miss Dent views Blake just like every other man in her life. Blake acknowledges the fact that he is like all men because on the train he noticed that he dressed like the rest of [them] as if he admitted to the existence of the sumptuary laws (82). In qualitative strategies, there is a focus on data collection, analysis and writing (p. 176). In qualitative strategies usually may fall in line with survey designs and experiments. The strategies followed the same general format such as purpose, data collection, data analysis and conclusion. The differences between the two for methods and procedures is the following: for quantitative methods they tend to be used in a pretest and posttest control group designs. Essay about Pros and Cons of the Mandatory Seatbelt Law An enormous division currently exists between the people who believe that automobile safety should be an option and those that feel it must be a requirement. The federal government feels the morally obligated to create the safest driving environment possible. On the other end of the spectrum, opinions exist that the average driver has ability to make the choice of safety on their own. Editorials, political assemblies, debates, and conversations have arrived on the concept of click it or ticket. He uses the term ?totalitarianism? to explain that history uses justifications to commit such acts of right infringement. Dr. Williams claims that this exemplifies the government owning our rights and choices, and using laws to make choices for us where as our rights should apply. From a rightful stand point, his argument of this could be considered applicable. However, the government?s stated agenda is to constantly protect the citizens of the state via laws, rules, and social standards. One can argue that rights are being infringed on, but the government has factually shown that deaths have decreased in auto accidents, and therefore they succeed in protecting the state. For example, the increase in seat belt usage has caused a 14 percent reduction in serious and fatal accidents in the state of North Carolina (Success Stories 1999). Apparently, the placement of seat belt restrictions has allowed the safety of citizens to continue. Beyond the safety benefit, this has allowed the lowering of insurance premiums and savings of health care related costs (Success Stories 1999). Dr. Walter E. Williams provided an idea that the government is denying rights, however, he refuses to discuss the idea of saving lives and health costs. A compromise should exist between rights and responsibility, but the current policy shows a more advantage situation. Despite Brett s seemingly carefree and unapologetic lifestyle and personality, she is internally fragmented like the other characters in the novel. Armistice Day , at the end of the Great War is England singing the holiness of God away, as Brittan whistles this new song for their conditions for humans spiral out of control by way of poverty, aloneness, and doubt. During this new dimension, it is not a new song of happiness that comes out of existence, it is an old song of sadness that is somehow different because of the earth s new conditions. Unlike any kind of rats in the Trenches that are around them, the vermin are not out to harm souls, but to destroy most of God s human beings. While they are not able to kill them, they are able to torment them for years to come. This plague is the same as the smoke of the torment as it seems to rise forever and ever (Revelation 14:11). The only way to glorify God is to accept His principles of mercy. Mercy means that God does the performs for His people. If God does the work, then He gets the glory. If mankind looks away then the smoke will never go away. Just as, right after the war, this smoke is a forewarning that Satan s purpose in the world is coming to fulfillment as he will embrace the pending judgments against the torment he is creating. Some of the major conflicts that remain at the core of this disunity, include: black on black crime, beauty and self esteem, and blacks over representation in the criminal justice system. Although there are many reasons that support these conflicts, one may wonder if the arrival of the social identity of blacks in America is the root cause for the conflicts. The arrival of the African American identity began with slavery and the slave master s behavior toward the field slave and the house slave. In other words, the identity of the African American was given by European slave masters instead of their personal creation. African women were raped and the slave master s preferential treatment of their offspring created a hierarchy among the slaves. As author Roger Smith (2004) explained, power and privileges were given to those with lighter complexions over those who are darker. In the days of slavery, light skin blacks were assigned to the house while blacks with dark skin had to work the fields. (p.1). The promise of educational opportunities were also given to slaves with lighter complexions. The indoctrination of Jim Crow Laws and white supremacy proved to keep the institution of slavery going even after its abolishment. Subsequent to the abolishment of slavery, blacks traveled to northern states and cities and created their own societies. According to author G. Reginald Daniel, in his book, More than Black, Blue Vein societies consisted of pluralistic elites within the African American community. Membership in these societies were determined by individuals phenotypical and cultural resemblance with European Americans (p. 4). The structural set up of these societies created an illusion of escaping the common stereotypes of blacks. Upon researching the topic of intraracial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Public diplomacy is also discussed in the paper as a way to project Australia s attractive image for the 2000 Sydney Olympics (Commonwealth of Australia 1997a: 78). Even the infamous playwright and poet, William Shakespeare, uses it to enhances his stories. For instance, in Shakespeare s Hamlet, the play is known for its archetype. For instance, Laertes is often considered as the doppelganger archetype of Hamlet. Often, he s believed to be the only one that s able to fill in the position of equal standing with Hamlet. However, although many people would ve come to the assumption that Laertes is Hamlet s doppelganger, because of his desires for vengeance against the people who ve wronged him and how his personality contrasts Hamlet s character, Ophelia is the true foil of not only Hamlet, but Laertes as well. However, to understand archetypes, it s a must to start with a little review on psychoanalysis, especially its evolution. From the beginning of archetypes, it began with Carl Jung, in the late nineteenth to the mid twentieth century, being considered the successor of psychoanalysis. Similar to Sigmund Freud, Jung was fascinated by the human being s psyche and its evolution over time. He believed a person s past, aspirations, and experiences shape their characters who d they become in the future. I completely agree with President Truman s decision to drop the atomic bomb on the two Japanese cities because I believe it is the main reason that ended World War II. Being from Malaysia, my grandparents often told me stories of their sufferings during World War II. As Singapore s former Prime Minister concurred, the Japanese soldiers were mean, brutal and vicious towards the civilians, and if the atomic bombs were not dropped to end the war, hundreds of thousands of civilians would have been perished. Another reason I support the use of atomic bombs to end the war is because World War II has the most war related deaths in history of mankind, if the war were to continue, more people would have died and Japan will rise and hold the most power in the world. Many minority Asian countries that were invaded would lose their culture, language and citizens, and hence the world might be different today. The droppings of these two bombs are arguably the most pivotal moment for Japan to end the war. First, Pearl Harbor was destroyed by a surprise Japanese attack in December 7, 1941. With such an important event in modern American History, President Truman has always thought of retaliating to Japan. • 36. Research on the Legalization of Marijuana Essay examples Research on the Legalization of Marijuana Americans have been trying to legalize marijuana for years. It seems that all of their opinions divide into three basic groups. Many think that it is not worth legalizing marijuana, many seem to think it should be legalized, and a group of people say it should only be legalized for medicinal purposes. In the following paragraphs I will try to show you reason for all three opinions. My hopes of doing this research project were to specifically determine what effects marijuana in combination with different substances had on the body. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marijuana usually does not contain more than 1 percent of THC. There are stronger drugs related to THC, such as hash oil , which can contain up to a 28 percent THC level. There have been some cases where street marijuana has been found to contain up to 5 percent THC content. That is very potent for normal marijuana, and is probably very hard to come by in the United States. Other countries seem to use different forms of THC related drugs such as hashish, and hemp. Both of these contain more THC than marijuana. As far as long term effects of tobacco and marijuana go, they are about the same. Cancer should appear in the lungs of a tobacco user earlier due to the amount the tobacco user smokes in relation to a normal marijuana smoker. There have been many assumptions that marijuana will cause long term brain damage and so on, but, clinically, none of this has ever been proven. In fact, in a college survey, the students who use the drug regularly possessed a higher GPA than those who do not use. This is an entire different subject, but it was interesting to learn. These plagues were really interesting to read about. They were so bad that many people died from them. The doctors didn t know what was wrong with the people since there was that much new technology in the thirteenth century. The black death was a deadly epidemic that was spread from Asia to Europe by twelve trading ships that were at the port of Messina after a long expedition through the Black Sea in the thirteen hundreds by October. If plague is evolved within the flea and rat population it is called enzootic. As the plague multiplies, it blocks the passage of blood to the flea s stomach then threatens starvation; the flea disgorges blood that is infected with many bacilli into the bloodstream of its entertainer, causing death. The black plague was not only caused by cargoes from the east, but by the seasonal changes in rat and flea ecology. London had suffered epidemics in 1563, 1593, 1603, and 1625; quantities of people died of the disease. At first the Bubonic plague was in the west rather than in the east. Unfortunately the plague became immune to the people. The shift in population, with changes in rat and fleas caused major deaths and diseases in humans. When the plague of 1665 disappeared they didn t need an explanation. The rats had acquired the immunity. During this horrible time, the weaker people died while the stronger people developed great immunities. This explained why the plague established itself far more strongly in London than in any other part of the country. The black rat was later then replaced with the brown rat, since they lived underground and the fleas wouldn t bite people like the black rats fleas would. However, these American ideals are not always put into practice, especially when it comes to the treatment of immigrants. First, the United States would not give naturalization rights to Asian immigrant or even allow these immigrants to apply for citizenship. Then the U.S. government would not allow them to own land and finally stopped their immigration to the United States altogether. Although these particular acts do not specifically target the Japanese but Asian Americans in general, these actions by the U.S. government definitely do not aid in the attempt of Japanese immigrants to successfully become U.S. citizens and integrate into American society. However, that does not mean that the U.S. did not create certain understandings with the Japanese government to choke off Japanese immigration. In 1905, the Russo Japanese War was won by the Japanese, the first time that an Asian power had ever defeated a premiere European power. With this shocking victory came much anti Japanese sentiment. The Gospel will always stay the same and we should refer the Social Gospel as living out the Gospel. The goal of the Social Gospel Movement was to tie salvation and good work together. They thought people should live the life of a Jesus Christ. Classes, counseling, job training and libraries were provided by churches to act according to the Social Gospel. The origins and issues of the Social Gospel Movement, how the Social Gospel related to a Progressive Era, the work of Walter Rauschenbusch, and how Social Gospel relates to the Gospel will be covered in this essay. The Social Gospel started in the early twentieth century as an intellectual movement. The purpose was to live out The Lord s Prayer during our day to day lives. Social Gospel applied Christian ethics to social problems like the issues of social justice. A group of liberal Protestant progressives started the movement because they weren t satisfied with social problems around them and they did not feel enough was being done to solve the problems. • 47. Pros And Cons Of The Cosmological Argument The Cosmological Argument has several forms, but is essentially a proof for the existence of the God of classical theism. It investigates to respond to the human wonder for answers to questions like who created the universe? It is an a posteriori argument, meaning that it is based on our experience of the world around us. The argument has been around for many years, but it was St. Thomas Aquinas in his book Summa Theologica who established the argument as we know it today. Aquinas had five proofs for the existence of God, of which three are cosmological; they are the First Cause Argument, the Prime Mover Argument and the Argument from Contingency. The First Cause Argument is troubled with the idea that all things have a cause and if we trace back the chain of causes, there must be an original cause which began everything else. People take this cause without a cause to be God. In a similar way the Prime Mover Argument declares that everything has to be moved by something and then a chain of movement is constructed up with each items movement resting on the movement of the item before it.
