Perceval Vs Inferno
Two epic poems, The Inferno and Perceval (The Story of the Grail), have impacted the world of
writing in various ways. The poets, Dante and Chrétien de Troyes, used many unique techniques to
make their pieces more interesting. Their two poems contained obvious similarities and differences,
and have often been compared to each other over the years. Although it was harder to understand, The
Inferno is a much better epic than Perceval because the epic hero, quest, style, and overall story is
much more entertaining.
The Inferno and Perceval contain epic heroes, both of which have similarities and differences to each
other. First of all, these two epic heroes leave home. In the Inferno, Dante is taken from his home, and

In Inferno, Dante had a wise guide, Virgil, to help him through his journey. Similarly, Perceval had a
guide, too, named Gornemant. Gornemant is the man in the story who advises Perceval not to ask too
many questions. To add on, both heroes encountered important events while on their quests. In
Inferno, Dante encounters a lion, which symbolizes violence and ambition. I shook with dread/ at the
sight of a great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger, its enormous head/ held high as if to
strike a mortal terror into the very air. (Inf. I. 43 46). This is important, because it symbolizes one of
the different types of sin. Furthermore, Perceval also has an important moment. This sword, dear
brother,/ was destined for you and none other./ I wish it to be yours henceforth. (Per. 192 194) In this
quote, Perceval s special sword is bestowed upon him. In contrast, Dante takes a journey to the
underworld. While Dante is taking a journey through hell, Perceval is just taking a journey back home.
Lastly, at the end of Dante s journey, he is rewarded. He gets forgiveness of his sins, which was is goal
in the first place. In Perceval, though, he never reaches home, so he does not reach his goal and never

Realism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Wilde combines both the ornamental and the natural elements of the definition of aestheticism here by
describing both the Persian saddle bags and honey coloured blossoms. The set description is so
enamoring that one could almost miss Lord Henry Wotton, instead engaging their imagination in the
appreciation of the objects around him. The descriptions are so elegantly articulated by Wilde that they
can only be imagined through their beauty alone; one would not imagine plain tables and chairs while
reading this, and the descriptions are certainly not modest as George Eliot describes in her definition
of realism. This also eliminates any need for a collective spectacle; the objects simply are what they
are. The entertaining language that Wilde uses in his descriptions work in satisfying his argument for
aestheticism. Wilde also spends a lot of his time making the characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray
aesthetic focused. For Wilde, the only character who gives in to the idea of realism is Basil Hallward
by putting far too much of himself into his own painting. Basil is the physical characterization of
Wilde s criticism of artists in his preface; he does not conceal the artist when creating Dorian s
portrait. Basil even claims that the real Dorian is the painting and not the living Dorian standing
before him, saying I shall stay with the real Dorian when prompted to attend the theatre with Dorian
and Henry Wotton (Wilde 28). Since the real Dorian is not to

Dual Identity In Jamaica
My boyfriend and I are planning a vacation for my birthday. While we were looking for a place to
visit, my boyfriend reconnected with his mother who lives in Jamaica. He lost contact with her after
Hurricane Allen, which caused over five thousand people to lose their homes. My boyfriend and his
family were one of them. With the excitement of hearing from his mother, we immediately planned
our trip to Jamaica. Being that I knew nothing about Jamaica, I began to research more about the
country. My boyfriend told me that I should treat Jamaica as if it were my home. He stated that like
African Americans, Jamaicans have been through a lot as well. The problems that the Jamaicans went
through, forced them to want to reclaim their identity as well as their love for their country. My
boyfriend then began to show me that although Jamaica has been oppressed through colonization, they
regained their independence and synthesize the ideas of colonization and their culture to form their
dual identity. The dual identity allows Jamaica to not only hold on to their African past but also
function with the new changes made by Europe to be a successful country. My boyfriend explained to
me that the dual identity is a combination of both the European and African culture. He says it is very
similar on how we, as African Americans, still hold onto traditional African customs and combine
them with our American culture. He explained to me that it is the same concept, except on a bigger
scale.

b. One of the issues in denormalized data is that it can result in many to many relationships that are
not compatible with the relational database. Visio does not allow creation of a many to many
relationship because of this incompatibility. Therefore, for any many to many relationships in your
data, you will need to create two one to many relationships. See the example below:Page 4 of 5
c. Based on the information from Step 1, create the initial ERD for the College
Scheduling database including the many to many relationships. If you need assistance to create the
entities, refer to labs from Weeks 1 and 2.
d. Assign the primary keys and attributes from the data requirements to the proper entities.
e. Save the file as YourName_Lab5A.vsd.
Step 3: Normalize the database
a. While the initial ERD is accurate, if you design a database without deviating from it, you will
encounter problems. For example, a course is offered many times. If you use the course code, for
example BIS245, as the primary key, you will only be able to list the course once. There are three
possible solutions.
1. Assign another primary key, such as an auto number field, so that the course can be listed multiple
times. However, this is not acceptable because it introduces redundancy rather than reducing it.
2. Use a composite primary key consisting of the

Advertising And The Adverse Exposure Of Publicity
An advertising mishap may lead to negative ad reviews, and or ratings; bad publicity is never
welcome. However, how you handle the reflux of the situation will set you apart as not only a thriving
business, but in terms of recovering clients and revamping business. The way the situation is handled
will either define your business or decline it. Gaining a clearer understanding of the link between the
role of advertising and the adverse exposure of publicity would further contribute to the knowledge of
aspects to be considered when planning a positive strategy in order to combat negative stigmas.
Advertising is the action of calling something to the attention of the public especially by paid
announcements (Webster, 2015). Advertising has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the context of relationship marketing, customer satisfaction is often viewed as a central determinant
of customer retention (Henning Thurau, 1998). Customer satisfaction is one piece of the puzzle to and
overall well executed advertisement and essentially product. Advertising is important to the customer,
who is the one who purchases the product after they have been made aware of the product s
availability. Advertising helps find the best fit for customers via product. Advertising is important to
society because it helps to educate the masses. Advertisements go beyond the products and they
address social standards and current issues, as well. There are many elements that make up a
successful advertisement and or campaign.
There are a few strategically applied principles that successful advertisements follow. Advertisements
are keyed, along with other means to discover the exact values and styles of advertisements and of
each medium in which they were inserted (Scott, INSERT NUMBER). Advertising has its influence
over the human minds, if it is not successful in this aspect, then it becomes useless and destructive to
the firms attempting it (Scott, NUMBER).
Memory is the first principle to consider with advertisement in mind. Our memory fires, processes,
and stores things rapidly. However, the pieces and parts that we actually remember in our everyday
lives is very

Essay On The Restoration Period
The period from 1660 to 1700 is known as the Restoration period. It was a period when King Charles
II of England marked the beginning of a new era both in social life and the literature of England upon
his return from exile. He revived a theatrical genre known as Comedies of Manners which was lewd
and hilarious. The Way of the world depicts real picture of the restoration period connected to amoral
and exploitative manners of the people. Therefore, this essay will be analyzed based on how the play
acts as a social mirror of the restoration period in England during Congreve s time. First of all, the
play is a dramatic representation of varieties of love that prevailed in England during the restoration
period. Marriage was just a mere game of love. There were betrayals on marriage without love yet the
fake relation continued for various reasons. Mirabell, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

could acquire from her. According to Siwach (n.d), the fact that Mr. Fainall married for money can be
hardly held against him in his society, but to marry for money to finance for love affair is more
difficult to accept. Thus, it is comprehensible that love without money is an impossible dream,
although money corrupts what love is. Nonetheless, the fact of acquiring money dealt a business over

Defensive Posture Of The United States
defensive posture of the United States, their ability to plan for attacks on the United States may
become diminished to the point of unsuccessful operations. (JCS 2015, pg.)
The target of the counterterror operations in the military strategy is the terror groups themselves, and
with the Handel method, the use of altering the perceptions that the enemy has can also alter their
ability to conduct attacks in middle east or even operate openly. By targeting the leadership with these
deception operations and altering the way the way they receive intelligence and also plan, can result in
degradation of their ground operations as well as making it appear that the leadership is without the
ability to lead effectively. (JCS 2015, pg.6) By making the enemy conduct the operations in ways that
would affect their ability to mass their forces or where the can concentrate their fighters, the idea that
the legitimacy of the fighting force could be diminished making for a loss of support. (JCS 2015, pg.
6)
The first argument in support of this model is the ability to make the enemy concentrate forces
mistakenly in an area where they would be susceptible to defeat or overwhelming power. (Bennet
Waltz 2007, pg. 30) This is accomplished through Handel s proposed use of misdirection, where
making the attention of the terror leaders being taken to another place would make them conduct a
strategic mistake leading to a defeat and loss of legitimacy. The con of this argument, is determining

Allied land component integration struggles hindered operational progression throughout the Sicilian

Since discovering the harmful effects of cigarette smoking to ones health, the United States has
worked hard to reduce the prevalence of illness and death attributable to this behavior. Based on recent
Gallup polls, the percent of people claiming to have smoked a cigarette within the past week has been
steadily declining since 1945 and the number of pack a day smokers is at the lowest point its ever been

According to the Center for Disease Control
(http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/campaign/tips/diseases/copd.html), cigarette smoking is responsible for
80% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases. Smoking can be attributed to this class
of diseases because it causes lung damage and inflammation that can lead to COPD. Airways become
clogged as excess mucus accumulates to move tar out of the body, they become thick and enflamed,
and air sacs may lose their elasticity and become destroyed, all affecting gas diffusion capacity. A
nagging cough, shortness of breath, and due to the reduced oxygen levels in the blood, discoloration of
lips and fingernails are a few of the potential symptoms of this class of diseases.

couple waiting to catch a train and as they sit and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig s

While the American, a practical man, looks at things in the function of their practicality and possesses
little imagination. Furthermore, he is dominant, a know all and a manipulator to the bone. He takes
care of the luggage, speaks Spanish and orders the drinks, not Jig. When sitting in the bar drinking
some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: They look like white elephants, she said. I
ve never seen one, the man drank his beer. (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative
language for a white elephant is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value.
In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American,
the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast,
her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot comprehend what Jig is referring to.
When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that
ends with him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds
more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on whether or not to abort the child, the
American even appears to know that Jig wouldn t mind to do it. A matter that is clearly linked to
women, nonetheless, he knows: it s all perfectly natural (253). When, in fact, you could question

Alexander The Great Argumentative Essay
Father: Persians have no place in the Macedonian army! Those who we once fought against are now
fighting alongside us. It is quite simply an insult to be succeeded as Alexander puts it, by young
Persians carrying Macedonian weapons, believing they are one of us.
Son: I believe the reasons he bought the successors to Susa far justify the hostility many veterans,
including you, father, may feel about the event. Alexander had the intention of repatriating those
veterans who were too wounded or old to continue through the difficult conditions they faced. With no
Macedonian troops available to replace them immediately and the strain of having to constantly send
back to Macedonia for reinforcements, Alexander had no choice but to turn to the Persians who were
trained in Macedonian infantry tactics. This army of course, owed more personal loyalty to Alexander
rather than the tiring Macedonians who served him for regional interests17.

Analysis Of Sam Walton s Vision
In 1963, Sam Walton had a vision. A vision, that he could bring what the consumers needed, to them,
at the lowest price possible. Mr. Walton believed that a company could not be run by just one person,
it had to take team work. With Mr. Walton relying on his associates at the lowest level possible, he
created the retail empire known today as Walmart. Mr. Sam, as he was referred to, would visit each
and every store to learn about its culture. He would sit down with each and every associate and get
ideas, comments, concerns, and anything that the associates wanted to talk to him about. This practice
allowed for Walmart to create a culture of its own. A culture where each person makes a difference, no
matter what your background or life style. The cultural synergy remains the same today. This
philosophy is the basis for Walmart s slogan, Every person makes a difference. Sam Walton knew that
in order to be successful he needed to hear from everyone, to make everyone a spokesperson for the
company. Many of the ideas that have been put into play have come from the lower level associates
who never thought they could make a difference. Each associate comes from a different walk of life
and background. This leads to the diverse workforce that Walmart has today. Sam s practices have
been instilled in today s current CEO, Doug McMillion. Doug McMillion, only the fourth CEO of
Walmart since Sam stepped down in 1988, has regained the atmosphere that Sam created and has

Like Water For Chocolate Themes
The novel, Like Water for Chocolate written by Laura Esquivel is a nail biting, tear jerking, and
infuriating piece of work. The story is told with a couple big, noticeable themes such as, family and
love. Esquivel was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico which is where most of her novels take
place. In all of her works, Esquivel likes to look into a male and female relationship, and Like Water
for Chocolate is no exception. This novel takes place in Mexico during the transition to the twentieth
century. Overall, this book was very thoughtfully and thoroughly put together. It displayed various
emotions within each chapter and always made sure the reader was involved.
In this novel, the reader gets to meet Tita De La Garza. Tita is the youngest daughter of her family,
resulting in her being forbidden by her dictatorial mother to marry her lover, Pedro Muzquiz. In

How Social Forces Allowed The Spread Of Flash Mob
Memes have taken over our society. They have invaded everything that we know from food, music,
movies, and TV shows. A meme is recognized as an idea, behavior, and a style that spread through
individuals within a culture. Memes come in a variety of forms such as TV and movie references that
are expressed in an image, jokes, minor everyday consequences or piece of text. The word meme was
coined by Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene in 1976. Now with the internet memes

Wasik writes, the vast majority of events are summarily ignored, while a small subset of events
attracts enormous audiences and, soon media attention (477). In this line, Wasik is talking about how
protests, plays, concerts, and other events don t receive that much attention as a flash mob. During the
presidential elections, political memes were all over social media. The most common political memes
that drowned social media were with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. One meme consisted of a
little boy sticking a knife into a socket, then the text reads: Trump or Hillary? Top socket or bottom
socket? This meme spread instantly after the debate. There were some individuals who haven t watch
the debate, and attention was drawn to the meme and people realize whoever wins, either way, they
are screwed. Throughout this election, attention was drawn more to the memes than the actual
election. Because people didn t pay attention to politics directly, memes were used to inform and
shape the opinion of the general public about politics. Memes do more that bring laughter to a group
of people that can relate to it, they shape the minds of individuals on social issues. Social issues are an
undesirable condition that individuals believe should be corrected. Social issues influence many

stage of people s life. During our teen years we usually figure out who we are and who we want to be.
Do you want to be the gamer who stays home all day and play video games or go out with friends?
Some people would rather spend a beautiful weekend inside playing video games instead of going out.

we tend to push them aside, blow them off, or just not pay attention to them. That is usually for

with all addictions they have their effects one of the common effects of video game addiction is
isolation and withdrawal from social events or experiences. Gamers often stay in their house or

Turkey After The Fall Of The Ottoman Empire
After the fall of the Ottoman empire, Turkey received a new identity as Modern Turkey. With Turkey
being home to over 45 different ethnic and religious groups, this makes it a diverse and unique nation.
This goes to show how unity is important in a diverse country like Turkey for its future success. All of
these contribute to the cultural makeup of this country. Turkey s current population is 78 million.
According to a report, 70% of Turkey s youth population will reach working age by the year 2023.
(United Nations 87). This goes to show that right now there is a very large young population in Turkey
that is on the verge of joining the workforce. This will dramatically affect the economy in Turkey. As
it relates to society, this has great cultural implications, because the next generation will make up the
moral fabric of society.
In order to understand the Turkish youth culture, it is important to first understand the current political
climate in Turkey, because politics can determine the mood of a country and its culture. Turkey s party
system currently consists of four main political parties, the Justice and Development Party, Republican
People s Party, Nationalist Movement Party, and the Peoples Democratic Party. Each party has a huge
political clout in the country, especially in the specific regions in Turkey. All the parties have an
enormous bulge of youth supporters which contribute greatly.

A look no one else can steal, which is ironic for her appearance was stolen or inspired from someone
else. Arleen Sorkin is the inspiration for Harley Quinn. When Sorkin appears in an episode of Days of
Our Lives dressed as a jester, roller skating, and having some make up on she inspired Paul Dini to
bring Harley to life. In the article, The Strange, Hidden Story of Harley Quinn Vulture, writer
Abraham Riesman gives the best description of the appearance Harley Quinn holds. Nevertheless,
Timm was and is a perfectionist and labored to give this cameo character a distinctive look: a red and
black full body jumpsuit adorned with playing card diamonds, ruffled cuffs, and a dual pronged jester
s cap, Abraham describes in his article the way Bruce Timm animated Harley Quinn. That image and
appearance of Harley is the one every fan knows and loves up until 2009, when video game creators
introduced a remastered version of Harley for the video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. In the video
game, Harley switches out her classic wear for something more along the lines of thigh high boots and
a corset that nearly made her boobs pop out. Although, she still maintained the makeup Harley Quinn
has. Many fans felt as though this was just a sexualization of Harley Quinn, and her appearance got
worse or severely sexualized with time. In 2010, Harley was once again reintroduced to comics, this
time with very little clothing covering her. Clearly the very little clothing was not working for the
crazy clown, because just lest than three years later D.C. reintroduced her again the New 52 comic
books. To get a great glimpse of the appearance Harley holds, the readers can see it in Harley Quinn:

Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard Essay
Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard
Terwilliger Bunts One by Annie Dillard is an amusing, revealing essay in which the speaker, a woman
in her twenties or thirties, tells the audience stories about her mother and her mother s unusual
personality. The ultimate purpose of the essay is to show by the mother s various quirks and rules how
her daughter is inspired to be her own person, stand up for the underdog, and to keep people on their
toes, and to hopefully pass this lesson on to the audience. The speaker has written this essay in
descriptive, comprehensive terms which convey to the audience how special and remarkable her
mother was, and to share some of her teachings with the rest of the world. Terwilliger bunts one is a ...

77), her restless mental vigor (p. 78), and her willingness to stand up for her opinions, no matter how
unpopular. Though the mother in this essay uses extraordinary words and is obviously a well educated
woman, the diction used by the speaker is generally straightforward to the average person; therefore, it
can be concluded that the story was written for the average person. The terms used are nonetheless
very specific and suited to their purpose of describing the mother, especially with several precise
adjectives appearing constantly. The mother has an emotional voice (p. 78), holds unpopular, even
fantastic, positions (p. 78), and gives a vibrantly innocent look (p. 77) after destroying a game of
bridge. However, the essay does require thinking, as several of the examples of the mother s behavior
and phrases that she employs are very clever and include a much more sophisticated diction, as is true
in the mother s life. When she responds to the question Save stamps? (p. 75) with No...I build model
airplanes (p. 75). Even the speaker could not understand what her meant for years, which was that
building model airplanes was her hobby, not collecting stamps. The tone and diction that the speaker
uses is simple, but the reader has to work harder to understand examples of things the speaker s
mother does or says. The speaker also makes good use of literary devices, though they rarely appear.
She makes an allusion to Samson (p.77) when talking

An Analysis Of Toni Morrison s God Help The Child And...
In most people s lives, their relationship with their mother is one of the most important influences on
them. It is because of this unavoidable fact that the main characters in both Toni Morrison s God Help
the Child and Suzan Lori Parks Getting Mother s Body experience many repercussions of the strained
relationship they had with their respective mothers. Both stories revolve around young women who
are finally reaching a point in their lives in which they must face and reconcile with their problems
from the past. In this essay, I will examine and discuss the characters themselves, the relationship
between mother and daughter, and how these relationships affected the outcome of the lives of both
daughters. In order to fully understand the relationships between these characters, it is important to
understand what kind of people they are. Understanding the mothers is especially critical because their
actions played an integral part in shaping their daughters into what they are now. Sweetness and Willa
Mae, from God Help the Child and Getting Mother s Body, respectively, are both very complicated
and interesting figures.
Sweetness, the mother of Bride, is a very hard headed woman who believes in tough love. She is also
cynical, addressing her daughter about her and new grandchild in the last line of the book by saying,
Listen to me. You are about to find out what it takes, how the world is, how it works and how it

Waiting In My Life
I am waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, and yes still waiting. I don t know how old i am
anymore. My life is a never ending cycle that hasn t stopped spinning into a never ending spiral of
nothingness. And yet, I remain within it. While there is little to no future in my daily cycle I find
comfort in knowing what to expect, but I expect something unexpected. The clock chimes 12 so I rise
from my bench and move to the bar for my daily drink. The right door hinge squeaks as I walk in. I
pause briefly then move on to my stool 3 down right in from of the Sasparilla Machine. There is no
need for any conversation the tender knows my drink and has already been paid in full 34 years ago
for this drink. Within 3 minutes the glass is dry and I return to my bench by the tracks to start phase 2
of my waiting. While I wait I ponder one of the deepest mysteries that occurred so far in my day, the
door squeak. What does it mean? Nothing else has changed in this ghost town. Nobody new ever
comes, but surely eventually someone new will come. Someone with innocence that be a light to the
darkness hidden in this town. A train whistle echoes in the distance.
Maybe today is the day...just maybe, I mutter under my breath. The train slows to its shuffling stop
and lets out a piercing whistle as if to announce to the world it is stopping. A man with a suitcase
hopped off the train step glanced at me then turned waving furiously at the train. Never in the last 34

John Knox Research Paper
Part # 2
Today we continue with men who were involved in the reformation before, during and after the
reformation.
John Knox 1514 1654
The exact place and date of his birth is not known with certainty, but it is generally accepted to be
Giffordgate, 16 miles east of Edinburgh, in 1513 to 1514.
During his youth the church was going through many changes, the church owned more than half the
real estate and gathered an annual income of nearly 18 times that of the crown. Bishops and priests
were often mere political appointments, and many never hid their immoral lives: the archbishop of St.
Andrews, Cardinal Beaton, openly consorted with concubines and sired 10 children.

1554, while living at Geneva, he met with Calvin s counsel a call to the English Church at Frankfurt.
His travels took him many placed to minister. He later returned to Geneva, where he was invited to

where he remained for nine months preaching Evangelical doctrine in various parts of the country, and
persuading those who favored the Reformation to cease from attendance at mass, and to join with
himself in the celebration of the Lord s Supper according to a Reformed ritual. In July an urgent call
from his congregation at Geneva, along, probably, with the desire to prevent the renewal of
persecution in Scotland, caused him to resume his Genevan ministry. His marriage to Marjorie Bowes,

Descriptive Essay On The Wrecking Ball
The Wrecking Ball The crowd screamed and surged as they looked up at the gleaming escalator. He
descended proudly, nodding approvingly at their expectant and trusting faces. All of their dreams and
hopes came down with him, reaching the high point as he stepped off at the very bottom. Over in the
expansive ballroom, just beneath the majestic chandelier, hang his best surprise yet. The wrecking ball
swayed slowly and gently, waiting to pick up some speed. He knew it was right there, but for now, he
would work the crowd. When they were all charged up into a great frenzy, he pointed at the toy above
their heads. Together, they would play for many days to come. He would aim, they would cheer, and
on and on it would go. He was going to swing as far and as high as possible. He had many targets. He
would hit one at a time, hard enough to knock, flatten, and obliterate it forever. Far beyond the adoring
crowd were those others who jeered in spite. He looked over and took aim at the women standing tall.
They knew him from before and were sure he was no good. He would not let them ruin his dreams,
and so he took aim directly at their heads. How dare they stand their ground against him and his
dream? He would show them who was boss after that cherished inaugural. Way over in the trenches,
the immigrants toiled for their dreams. He gave them a once over and saw a bunch of crooks. He
pulled the lever again and aimed at the busy lot. The crowd cheered yet again as the ball flew through
the air. With nowhere safe to turn, the immigrants looked up for help. The ball was getting closer, and
they prayed that help would come soon. He was getting even more frenzied, and the brothers and
sisters were next. Not feeling included had them taking pause. How well did he know them or care for
what they cherished? After pushing them away, he was mad at them now. He pulled and aimed the ball
right for their centre. First, he would scatter their faith to end their unity. He would pit one against the
other and race to a sure victory. He would call them cheaters and suppress their big turnouts. He
would bring doubt to the trusted process. He looked out to the back and saw the media in full form. If

The Outlook for Girls In Engineering and Mathematics Essay
areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics employers are not getting enough women
(Pozniak). High school girls only represent 17 percent of computer science Advance Placement (AP)
test takers (O Shea). The most significant group of minorities who are behind in earning computer
technology degrees and working in science and mathematical professions are women. Historically,
women s low representation in science and engineering was said to be due in large part of their lack of
ability, interest, or both (Horning 30). However, this is no longer a true fact according to Ward. Some
suggestions to increasing the amount of women in sciences include introducing already present

These women are less likely to receive a promotion. Gender roles in society demand more of women
in raising children. Differences in marriage and social life can be held responsible for most of the
difficulty that is placed on women in engineering. Interest in science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM) is thinning for women as they progress into higher levels. Women in grades 7 12
were surveyed to see if their interest in STEM fields were diminishing. According to Van Leuvan, this
survey showed that there was a decline in interest as these girls progress through high school.
Throughout middle school and junior high a love for mathematics can be developed. However, a loss
of interest is present as soon as girls hit more demanding classes like calculus. Grades will highly
diminished and a fear for comprehension of mathematics in the future will develope. According to the
article Women and Minorities in Engineering a major outlook on success from students is their ability
to understand calculus.
Aside from chemistry and physics, a one year calculus sequence is a prerequisite for many
engineering courses (Frehill). Bonsangue and Drew described calculus as the gateway course . They
found that women who demonstrate good performance and persistence in calculus would likely
succeed in engineering. Moreno and Muller s research corroborated

How Did Pearson Change Canada
While in the position of prime minister, Pearson improved the quality of life for all Canadians. He did
this in various ways, one of which was by creating universal healthcare within Canada. Pearson, with
association with the then Minister of National Health Allan MacEachen, developed a new medical
care program in 1967. This was outlined by The Medical Care Act, and it had offered to share the cost
of one half of all provincial medical services provided by clinical doctors. Also, the program ensured
that every patient received equal treatment and prices from their doctors. This assistance/insurance
plan was available to every citizen from any province. Prior to the implementation of this program,
doctors had the ability to charge a patient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after the CPP came into effect, Pearson had changed their low status into a higher one. This
pension plan compelled workers to save for the future and thus allowed the senior population of
workers to live a prosperous life with guaranteed income. With more money, seniors could maintain
the possessions and assets that they had prior to retirement and not have to give them up due to their
impoverished situation and need for more money. Likewise, they would not have to sacrifice as much
of their daily habits and pleasures because they could not afford to partake in them. However, seniors
were not the only individuals who experienced positive change because of this plan, so did the
workers themselves. Employees felt a sense of safety and satisfaction when going about their lives
since they knew that their financial future was more promising than bleak. With this plan, Pearson
subdued most of the anxiety that workers would experience when contemplating their future by
forcing them to constantly secure their own future. Thus, based on Lester B. Pearson s contribution to
the making of universal healthcare in Canada as well as the Canadian Pension Plan, it can be
concluded that Pearson positively changed the health, mental and economic well being of all

Immigration Reform In Arizona
Introduction Back in 2007 there were several concerns over immigration as a whole and exploding
proportions of illegal immigrants crossing the border in the Arizona area. Arizona attempted to resolve
the influx of people across the border by imposing heavy fines on employers hiring illegal immigrants.
At that time in Arizona there was a democratic governor Janet Napolitano that continually vetoed the
Arizona s legislature attempt to reduce illegal immigration. In 2009 the state replaced the Democratic
governor with a Republican governor Jan Brewer who was supportive of reforms for immigration in
Arizona. In 2010 the immigration problem was so sever that Arizona passed legislation allowing the
state to enforce federal law for identification of legal immigration into the United States. This sparked
a nation wide discussion on illegal immigration and immigration reform. The problem with
immigration is that the federal government has failed to control immigrants coming into the U.S.
illegally. This has caused a substantial increase in illegal immigration that threatens the U.S. economy.
There continues to be uncertainty on how to approach the legalized immigration into the U.S. The
federal government has attempted since 1975 to enact laws that resolve the issue but the laws continue
to fall short of fixing the problem. One of the democratic approaches to solve the problem is to give
all illegal immigrants citizenship unless they are not in good standings within

The And Chemical Properties Of Artificial Acids
Abstract: In this experiment, we made an artificial ester called pentyl ethanoate, also known as pentyl
acetate, and analyzed its physical and chemical properties. The method used in the experiment is an
esterification reaction. We synthesized pentyl ethanoate by mixing equal amounts of 1 pentanol and
ethanoic acid in the presence of a few drops of sulfuric acid, which is a strong acid catalyst. The
mixture of the reactants was heated for ten minutes in a hot water bath at a temperature of sixty
degrees Celsius and was given time to cool in a different beaker for five minutes. The product formed
was a colorless, insoluble liquid that smelled like banana candy. Two minutes later, a reverse reaction
had occurred and the aroma of banana changed to a marker smell. The pentyl ethanoate was on the
surface of the water mixture while the sulfuric acid, ethanoic acid, and 1 pentanol were dissolved into
the bottom of the water mixture. These findings helped us understand the importance of synthesizing
esters, the physical and chemical properties of artificial esters, and how the esterification reaction
between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid such as between 1 pentanol and ethanoic acid can form a
pleasant banana aroma ester, such as pentyl ethanoate.
Introduction:
Esters are a class of organic compounds that contain a functional group with a carbon atom double
bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another. An ester can be identified by the suffix oate

Legalizing Recreational Pot Heavy marijuana smokers are at risk for some of the same health effects
as cigarette smokers, like bronchitis and other respiratory illnesses. Marijuana is the most commonly
abused illegal drug in the United States and around the world. Those who support its legalization, for
medical or for recreational use, fail to recognize that the greatest costs of marijuana are not related to
its prohibition; they are the costs resulting from marijuana use itself. If the United States were to

marijuana was legalized, as regulations on alcohol and tobacco does not prevent use by youth. The ...

Besides the curiosity and easy accessibility, another reason the number of drug users across the United
States would increase would be because marijuana is a gateway for other drugs. Since the legalization
of marijuana would make smoking weed out in public and smoking in general a social norm, many
users of marijuana could possibly fall under the curiosity of what other drugs can do and how they
could make them feel while on them. The high that marijuana causes is what drives many people to
start using. Although other drugs provide different types of high, the high people experience from
marijuana may not be enough anymore if it were legalized throughout the states. Since smoking weed
would be a social norm if it were legalized, there is a high chance that many users of the drug may
often fall into irresponsible habits of using or even start to try new drugs because the high from
marijuana is not enough for them anymore. According to the Foundation for a Free Drug World,
The vast majority of cocaine users began by first using a gateway drug like marijuana, cigarettes or
alcohol. Of course, not everyone who smokes marijuana and hashish goes on to use harder drugs.
Some never do. Others quit using marijuana altogether. But some do turn to harder drugs. One study
found that youth (12 to 17 years old) who use marijuana

But the studio and fans wanting venom; Harry is just another villain. Although having the best set up
to be the main villain of the three, Harry s part in the film is pushed around. For example he gets
amnesia in order for other characters to be focused on. The amnesia completely changes Harry to

are not meant to be joyous and dancing. Raimi s intentions of showing Harry as fearsome and

he s evil again. Which leads us back to the point that this film is all over the place with flaws. What
did his character gain from amnesia? Nothing. Then after this Harry becomes a good guy again. Harry

Linfox vision is to be the supply chain partner of choice for customers across Asia Pacific. It is also

Negative Consequences of Sterotyping
If someone was to describe a person as tall and athletic, you could assume that person to be either
male or female. If added to that description was that they liked to dance and wore tight clothing, one
might lean more to the thought of the person being a female. If still nothing was said about their
gender, but it was also stated that the person was wearing a tight pair of shorts and a hot pink crop top
shirt that exposed their stomach, almost everyone would assume a female was being described.
However, if you were to drive down Archer, or 13th street in Gainesville Florida at the right time you
would possibly have to do a double take at the person performing on the side of the road. All of the
descriptions listed above are describing a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, not all rich people are cold and not all poor people have big hearts, which is the case with
all stereotypes, not everyone actually falls into the group you may categorize them into. It is thought
that stereotypes are a set of group beliefs and that frequently those who socialize together tend to share
the same set of stereotypes. Stereotypes can serve as a cognitive function on an interpersonal level, as
well as a social function on an intergroup level. For stereotyping to work in an intergroup situation an
individual must see themselves as part of a group and being a part of the group must be important to
that individual. Craig McGarty, Russell Spears, and Vincent Y. Yzerbyt (2002) argued that the
cognitive functions of stereotyping are best understood in relation to its social functions, and vice
versa.
The next question to ask ourselves is, why do stereotypes form? If how stereotypes form stems either
from being a learned behavior or as a way for us to group information, why do they persist even when
we know better? Research has shown that stereotypes can develop based on a cognitive mechanism
known as illusory correlation, which is an erroneous inference about the relationship between two
events. If two events that are statistically infrequent occur at the same time observers will
overestimate the frequency at which these events occur together. Events

Pros and Cons of the Equal Rights Amendment Essay
Pros and Cons of the Equal Rights Amendment
The Equal Rights Amendment began its earliest discussions in 1920. These discussions took place
immediately after two thirds of the states approved women s suffrage. The nineteenth century was
intertwined with several feminist movements such as abortion, temperance, birth control and equality.
Many lobbyists and political education groups formed in these times. One such organization is the
Eagle Forum, who claims to lead the pro family movement. On the opposite side of the coin is The
National Organization for Women, or NOW, which takes action to better the position of women in
society. Feminism is the most powerful force for change in our time. The Equal Rights Amendment

Some supporters say that because women s salaries still lag behind men, we need an Equal Rights
Amendment more than ever (Hennessey 3). The real issue, claim some supporters, is the right to
bodily integrity, and without this basic right, women can have no true freedom (NOW 2). Legal sex
discrimination is not a thing of the past, and the progress of the last forty years is not irreversible
without the protection of an amendment (Francis 1).Feminist claim that The ERA s most valuable
effect would be the psychological victory it would provide women (Steiner 35). Women are underpaid
in the workforce, required to pay higher insurance premiums and are half as likely as men to get
pensions (NOW 4). Supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment remind us of a traditional assumption,
‘Men hold rights and women must prove that they hold them (Francis 2). Supporter claim amazement
that, Even in the twenty first century, the United States Constitution does not explicitly guarantee that
all the rights it protects are held equally by all citizens (Francis 4). Supporters of the Equal Rights
Amendment believe that unless we put into the Constitution the bedrock principle that equality of
rights cannot be denied or abridged on account of sex, the political and judicial victories women have
achieved with their blood, sweat and tears for the past two

Sasanian Influence Essay
Sasanian influence was widespread throughout the Islamic world. But it is quite hard to differentiate
the earliest Islamic objects from their archetypes in Persian or Sassanid art. And it took a significant
amount of times, sometimes even centuries for the majority of the population to convert, including
artists, after the Muslim conquest. But even in the objects that were created later on, an effect of the
predecessor cultures can be seen. Islamic architecture, especially in places such as Baghdad for
example, was based on Persian precedents such as Firouzabad in Persia. In fact, it has now been
discovered that the two designers who were employed by al Mansur to plan the city s design were

Ctesiphon palace had influenced Muslim artists more than anything. The decorative styles used in the
palace were adopted by the Muslims and were portrayed in a lot of Umayyad and Abbasid palaces.
The palace was built by Khursaw I. It was built of brick kilns, and had an audience hall, where it is
said that three thrones were placed for the three great rulers of the world of that era, i.e. the emperor of
Rome, the emperor of China and the Khagan of Turks; for the time when they would come to submit
to the Sasanian Empire. Similar feature could be seen in the Umayyad palace at Qusayr Amra, where
the frescoes show six rulers of the world in attendance to the Umayyad caliph. The audience hall in
the Ctesiphon palace itself is heavily decorated with frescoes, which were left untouched even after
the Muslim conquest of Persia. That is probably; where from, the Muslim artist adopted the use of
frescoes and can be seen in their medieval structure. Frescoes were also recently discovered in Shahr e
Gur, which further implies that the Umayyad floor frescoes have not been adopted from the classical
floor mosaics but rather the traditional decorative medium of

Indentured Servants Essay
In the seventeenth century, slaves and indentured servants were considered property. The difference
between the two groups of people, is slavery lasted a lifetime while indentured servants labor lasted
for four to six years until the servant were able to pay their owner back. So under these circumstances,
slaves and indentured servants lives were very similar but also different. Based on their clothing and
the skills they had, slaves and indentured servant lifestyles were different. Clothing seemed like a
huge factor in the ads in 1738, because it showed the difference between a slave and indentured
servant. Both of these groups could not choose what type of clothing they had or pick different outfits.

These ads overall were helpful to a certain extent. For each slaves and indentured servant ads they
were all the same. The slave ads had the description including the clothes they had, the scars on their
body and the reward money. Then the indentured servants also had the same description but it said

  • 2. Perceval Vs Inferno Two epic poems, The Inferno and Perceval (The Story of the Grail), have impacted the world of writing in various ways. The poets, Dante and Chrétien de Troyes, used many unique techniques to make their pieces more interesting. Their two poems contained obvious similarities and differences, and have often been compared to each other over the years. Although it was harder to understand, The Inferno is a much better epic than Perceval because the epic hero, quest, style, and overall story is much more entertaining. The Inferno and Perceval contain epic heroes, both of which have similarities and differences to each other. First of all, these two epic heroes leave home. Similarly, Perceval had a guide, too, named Gornemant. Gornemant is the man in the story who advises Perceval not to ask too many questions. To add on, both heroes encountered important events while on their quests. In Inferno, Dante encounters a lion, which symbolizes violence and ambition. I shook with dread/ at the sight of a great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger, its enormous head/ held high as if to strike a mortal terror into the very air. (Inf. I. 43 46). This is important, because it symbolizes one of the different types of sin. Furthermore, Perceval also has an important moment. This sword, dear brother,/ was destined for you and none other./ I wish it to be yours henceforth. (Per. 192 194) In this quote, Perceval s special sword is bestowed upon him. In contrast, Dante takes a journey to the underworld. While Dante is taking a journey through hell, Perceval is just taking a journey back home. Lastly, at the end of Dante s journey, he is rewarded. He gets forgiveness of his sins, which was is goal in the first place. In Perceval, though, he never reaches home, so he does not reach his goal and never gets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Realism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray Wilde combines both the ornamental and the natural elements of the definition of aestheticism here by describing both the Persian saddle bags and honey coloured blossoms. The set description is so enamoring that one could almost miss Lord Henry Wotton, instead engaging their imagination in the appreciation of the objects around him. The descriptions are so elegantly articulated by Wilde that they can only be imagined through their beauty alone; one would not imagine plain tables and chairs while reading this, and the descriptions are certainly not modest as George Eliot describes in her definition of realism. This also eliminates any need for a collective spectacle; the objects simply are what they are. The entertaining language that Wilde uses in his descriptions work in satisfying his argument for aestheticism. Wilde also spends a lot of his time making the characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray aesthetic focused. For Wilde, the only character who gives in to the idea of realism is Basil Hallward by putting far too much of himself into his own painting. Basil is the physical characterization of Wilde s criticism of artists in his preface; he does not conceal the artist when creating Dorian s portrait. Basil even claims that the real Dorian is the painting and not the living Dorian standing before him, saying I shall stay with the real Dorian when prompted to attend the theatre with Dorian and Henry Wotton (Wilde 28). Since the real Dorian is not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He lost contact with her after Hurricane Allen, which caused over five thousand people to lose their homes. My boyfriend and his family were one of them. With the excitement of hearing from his mother, we immediately planned our trip to Jamaica. Being that I knew nothing about Jamaica, I began to research more about the country. My boyfriend told me that I should treat Jamaica as if it were my home. He stated that like African Americans, Jamaicans have been through a lot as well. The problems that the Jamaicans went through, forced them to want to reclaim their identity as well as their love for their country. My boyfriend then began to show me that although Jamaica has been oppressed through colonization, they regained their independence and synthesize the ideas of colonization and their culture to form their dual identity. The dual identity allows Jamaica to not only hold on to their African past but also function with the new changes made by Europe to be a successful country. My boyfriend explained to me that the dual identity is a combination of both the European and African culture. He says it is very similar on how we, as African Americans, still hold onto traditional African customs and combine them with our American culture. He explained to me that it is the same concept, except on a bigger scale. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a period when King Charles II of England marked the beginning of a new era both in social life and the literature of England upon his return from exile. He revived a theatrical genre known as Comedies of Manners which was lewd and hilarious. The Way of the world depicts real picture of the restoration period connected to amoral and exploitative manners of the people. Therefore, this essay will be analyzed based on how the play acts as a social mirror of the restoration period in England during Congreve s time. First of all, the play is a dramatic representation of varieties of love that prevailed in England during the restoration period. Marriage was just a mere game of love. • 8. Defensive Posture Of The United States defensive posture of the United States, their ability to plan for attacks on the United States may become diminished to the point of unsuccessful operations. (JCS 2015, pg.) The target of the counterterror operations in the military strategy is the terror groups themselves, and with the Handel method, the use of altering the perceptions that the enemy has can also alter their ability to conduct attacks in middle east or even operate openly. By targeting the leadership with these deception operations and altering the way the way they receive intelligence and also plan, can result in degradation of their ground operations as well as making it appear that the leadership is without the ability to lead effectively. (JCS 2015, pg.6) By making the enemy conduct the operations in ways that would affect their ability to mass their forces or where the can concentrate their fighters, the idea that the legitimacy of the fighting force could be diminished making for a loss of support. Mr. Walton believed that a company could not be run by just one person, it had to take team work. With Mr. Walton relying on his associates at the lowest level possible, he created the retail empire known today as Walmart. In 2009 the state replaced the Democratic governor with a Republican governor Jan Brewer who was supportive of reforms for immigration in Arizona. In 2010 the immigration problem was so sever that Arizona passed legislation allowing the state to enforce federal law for identification of legal immigration into the United States. This sparked a nation wide discussion on illegal immigration and immigration reform. The problem with immigration is that the federal government has failed to control immigrants coming into the U.S. illegally. This has caused a substantial increase in illegal immigration that threatens the U.S. economy. There continues to be uncertainty on how to approach the legalized immigration into the U.S. The federal government has attempted since 1975 to enact laws that resolve the issue but the laws continue to fall short of fixing the problem. One of the democratic approaches to solve the problem is to give all illegal immigrants citizenship unless they are not in good standings within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The And Chemical Properties Of Artificial Acids Abstract: In this experiment, we made an artificial ester called pentyl ethanoate, also known as pentyl acetate, and analyzed its physical and chemical properties. The method used in the experiment is an esterification reaction. We synthesized pentyl ethanoate by mixing equal amounts of 1 pentanol and ethanoic acid in the presence of a few drops of sulfuric acid, which is a strong acid catalyst. The mixture of the reactants was heated for ten minutes in a hot water bath at a temperature of sixty degrees Celsius and was given time to cool in a different beaker for five minutes. The product formed was a colorless, insoluble liquid that smelled like banana candy. Two minutes later, a reverse reaction had occurred and the aroma of banana changed to a marker smell. The pentyl ethanoate was on the surface of the water mixture while the sulfuric acid, ethanoic acid, and 1 pentanol were dissolved into the bottom of the water mixture. These findings helped us understand the importance of synthesizing esters, the physical and chemical properties of artificial esters, and how the esterification reaction between an alcohol and a carboxylic acid such as between 1 pentanol and ethanoic acid can form a pleasant banana aroma ester, such as pentyl ethanoate. Introduction: Esters are a class of organic compounds that contain a functional group with a carbon atom double bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another. An ester can be identified by the suffix oate (Clancy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Legalizing Recreational Pot English 1B 16 February 2016 Legalizing Recreational Pot Heavy marijuana smokers are at risk for some of the same health effects as cigarette smokers, like bronchitis and other respiratory illnesses. Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the United States and around the world. Those who support its legalization, for medical or for recreational use, fail to recognize that the greatest costs of marijuana are not related to its prohibition; they are the costs resulting from marijuana use itself. Besides the curiosity and easy accessibility, another reason the number of drug users across the United States would increase would be because marijuana is a gateway for other drugs. Since the legalization of marijuana would make smoking weed out in public and smoking in general a social norm, many users of marijuana could possibly fall under the curiosity of what other drugs can do and how they could make them feel while on them. The high that marijuana causes is what drives many people to start using. Although other drugs provide different types of high, the high people experience from marijuana may not be enough anymore if it were legalized throughout the states. Since smoking weed would be a social norm if it were legalized, there is a high chance that many users of the drug may often fall into irresponsible habits of using or even start to try new drugs because the high from marijuana is not enough for them anymore. The amnesia completely changes Harry to become a happy person. This undermines the director s purpose of having Harry as a villain. Villains are not meant to be joyous and dancing. Raimi s intentions of showing Harry as fearsome and intimidating were contradicted. After Sandman is out of the picture, Harry s memory is back and now he s evil again. Which leads us back to the point that this film is all over the place with flaws. What did his character gain from amnesia? Nothing. Then after this Harry becomes a good guy again. Because they are set in the same town, the stories characters speak in a broken, English dialect of the South, to reflect the era and location in which they lived. It is thought that stereotypes are a set of group beliefs and that frequently those who socialize together tend to share the same set of stereotypes. Stereotypes can serve as a cognitive function on an interpersonal level, as well as a social function on an intergroup level. For stereotyping to work in an intergroup situation an individual must see themselves as part of a group and being a part of the group must be important to that individual. Craig McGarty, Russell Spears, and Vincent Y. Yzerbyt (2002) argued that the cognitive functions of stereotyping are best understood in relation to its social functions, and vice versa. The next question to ask ourselves is, why do stereotypes form? If how stereotypes form stems either from being a learned behavior or as a way for us to group information, why do they persist even when we know better? Research has shown that stereotypes can develop based on a cognitive mechanism known as illusory correlation, which is an erroneous inference about the relationship between two events. If two events that are statistically infrequent occur at the same time observers will overestimate the frequency at which these events occur together. Events ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
