Bear Hunting in New Jersey
Bear Hunting in New Jersey
The head of the New Jersey Environmental Protection Agency has resumed the black bear hunts that
had been paused for five years due to over hunting. In this time, the population of black bears has
risen once again to a safe level for hunting, and the republican controlled government has allowed
hunters to resume their hunting. Some wildlife activists see the hunts as unnecessary and cruel, and
wish to defend the bears. This belief is opposed by the hunting organizations that have pointed to a
long history of hunting, as well as the potential danger that black bears present, as points that may
hinder their cause. I am on the side of the hunters, as I think that the government s job is to make sure
both the bears are protected and the hunters are happy, and therefore a happy medium must be
reached. Too many black bears can be dangerous for the residents of New Jersey. (Nuwer, 2011) They
are migrating animals, and often enter into human neighborhoods in search of food often found in
people s waste bins. This has led the NRA and other hunting groups to petition the state government
on the issue of bear hunting for safety. Activist groups believe that taking better precautions to secure
garbage around the state of New Jersey would keep the bears away from human areas, and that there
are other ways to curb population growth besides hunting bears. These wildlife activists also point out
that bears are usually passive, and unless threatened, are less

History And Historical Context Of The Old Testament
The history of how the Bible came into existence has been explored for centuries and is an active area
of study today. There are many facets to the Bible and each has its own set of unique characteristics
and teachings. The Old Testament is considered a contemporary guide for daily living, even though it
was composed hundreds of years ago. Where did the Old Testament come from? What are some of the
influences that shaped the Old Testament? What are the significant events of the Old Testament? In
order to gain a better understanding of the Old Testament and its message to Christians, special
consideration is given to its historical and cultural context, and to the major milestones in its
development. Personal application of the teachings offered in this section of the Bible should be the
aspiration of all Christians today.
Cultural and Historical Context of the Old Testament An understanding of Israel s history and
geography is necessary for proper interpretation of the Old Testament. The Middle East provided the
setting for the events recorded in the Old Testament, specifically Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Syria
Palestine. This area lies along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Mesopotamia up to the Persian Gulf.
This area was the cradle of civilization and the scene of God s activities as recorded in the Old
Testament. The majority of the events take place in Palestine, the ancient land of Canaan, though at
times the Israelites lived in Egypt and Babylon. This is

Identity And Sense Of Belonging Essay
A person s background can shape their attitudes, beliefs and behaviours. For me, growing up around
my sisters shaped the way I viewed things and behaved, and likewise; with Aboriginal peoples, their
culture has formed their beliefs and views. Before I started Caring for Country, some things I was
unaware of include:
1. Diversity
2. Land
3. Identity and sense of belonging
4. Proper pronouns
5. Adaption
6. The Dreaming
7. Performance
8. Visual arts

The land has significant importance to Aboriginal peoples because it is more than just land to them; it
is the core of their spirituality and connection. In regards to land, they believe in preserving the
environment, rather than to build upon it and westernise. Aboriginal peoples identify and feel a sense
of belonging to their land with the evidence of rock engravings and artwork. They are people as much
as white people are, therefore, I have learned to spell it with a capital, be aware of the different groups
within Aboriginal peoples (Kaurna, etc.), and to say Aboriginal peoples rather than Aboriginal because
it sounds discriminative and segregated. I acknowledge Aboriginal peoples were the First Nation
peoples to settle in Australia; therefore, they have created the fundamental base of adaption for the
white peoples, such as digging sticks, rocks to carve with, and even the invention of the Didgeridoo.
The Dreaming is a central part of their culture, a

The Neo-Assyrian Empire
The Assyrians were very successful as empire builders. Although the Sea People destroyed their
domain a couple of times, the Assyrians still managed to revive creating the Neo Assyrian Empire, in
which their realm expanded especially in the Middle East and took control over Egypt. During the
Neo Assyrian Empire, the Assyrians were able to master the skill at using chariots and the proficiency
of iron smelting. They developed iron weapons and the first true cavalry force that gave them a huge
advantage over their neighbors who still used copper and tin weapons. Consequently, the Assyrians
became an unrivaled power over the ancient Near East and began exploring artworks and ways they
could adorn their cities. The Assyrians were also famous for building great roads that allowed them to
move quickly from place to place. Likewise, they built amazing cities with fortified walls, canals, ...

The Persians were well known for their respect for other cultures and religious practices. Cyrus, the
Persian ruler had allowed the Jews to build the Second Temple in Jerusalem and worship as they
pleased. The Persians believed that individuals possess free will and can choose to sin or not sin
(Joshua Cole and Carol Symes 51). Additionally, as the Persians enforced a standardized currency and
a system of weights and measures, it contributed for the trade and commerce growth. And with the
accumulation of wealth, it improved the quality of life. Beyond that, when Croesus, king of the
kingdom of Lydia decided to attack Persia in order to preserve his own realm from conquest, the
Persians were able to counterattack and defeat Croesus forces. Yet, Cyrus kept Croesus as an advisor
rather than a prisoner. A similar action from Cyrus was evident when he freed the Hebrews who had
been held captive in Babylon since 586 B.C.E. These two actions were enough to conquer people s
trust and loyalty and maintain the Persians enormous

Destination Marketing
Executive Summary
The Gold Coast is indisputably Australia s most popular holiday destination and offers many different
types of beachfront accommodation, award winning dining, shopping and thrilling attractions. This
marketing report aimed to devise a marketing strategy for this location. It began by scanning the
macro environment and found that the location is politically stable, although currently the entire world
is being severely affected by the economic recession. This has therefore meant that non essential
spending is down, which will have a negative economic impact. Conversely, new technologies such as
efficient aircraft are allowing for more visitors to the region. A current concern is that of global
warming, being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Gold Coast has something for everyone, from families to young singles and couples and everyone
in between. The location has a subtropical climate which is ideal for taking advantage of the many
leisure activities and events. Some of the major drawcards are the theme parks; Movieworld,

Critical Analysis of Communication Styles and Skills:
Overview:
Communication is a two way process, it allows us to interact with other people. The part of
correspondence is much critical for every one life. There are different types of communication
processes in which any individual is engaged every now and then. Communication processes are two
types verbal and non verbal. The intention of communication is to make others see about your
emotions and purpose of perspectives about any specific subject or plan. The requirement for
correspondence is obvious from the different parts which one is obliged to play occasionally. This
clarifies that it is unrealistic for every last one to live in detachment remembering about the way that
people are social creatures. Common types of communication include speaking, writing, broadcasting
and gestures. It is not only exchange information but also instill the filling of confidence and
importance between others.

Ambiguity Of Compatibilism
The logical positivist philosopher Rudolf Carnap (1978) writes,
Metaphysicians are musicians without musical ability. [...] the metaphysician confuses [science and
art] and produces a structure which achieves nothing for knowledge and something inadequate for the
expression of attitude. (P.80)
I agree with this position completely. In the free will debate, compatibilism is the view that physical
determinism and human freedom co exist. By arguing compatibilism ultimately changes the subject
from human freedom, I claim the concept of free will is meaningless. In essence, compatibilist
arguments exploit the ambiguity of language, indefinable metaphysical notions, and unsound
reasoning. In this essay, I attempt to eliminate compatibilism. First, ... Show more content on

Hobbes, an early modern English philosopher, champions materialism that everything is made of
matter and in extension, endorses determinism in favor of a mechanistic worldview, that the world
straightly follows a set of rigid natural laws. (Chappell, 1999, P. xii) He also believes in free will; a
free agent is he that can do if he will, and forbear if he will , in accordance to [his] intrinsical quality .
(Hobbes, 1999, P. 39) Hobbes (1999) thinks analogously a river has free will because there is no
external impediment , a person s action is free because he is not hindered from it. (P. 95) Free will , for
Hobbes (1999), means occurrences without obstacle, in animate or inanimate objects. (P. 96) One can
say a drop of rain is free because a raindrop is following its gravitational nature as one agrees human
beings are free because they act according to their nature, which is composed of values and desires.
(Chappell, 1999, P. xviii) Thus, free actions are not contradictory to a deterministic world because all
objects actions follow from their own natures, which imply they are all voluntary and free. (Hobbes,
1999, P. 37) Hobbes argument is attractive because, unlike Sober, it does not require alternative
possibility, even if everything in the world is rigidly determined by physical laws, the agents can still

Is Hamlet Grieving For His Father s Death In Hamlet Analysis
When analyzing Hamlet under a psychological lens, one can speculate on why exactly Hamlet is so
fixated on the death of his father. Is the cause a heartfelt relationship between Hamlet and King
Hamlet? Or is Hamlet displacing the real motive for his grief? It is possible that Hamlet is not grieving
for his father s death after all, but subconsciously grieving for something else. Due to the death of
King Hamlet, Hamlet would have inherited the kingdom if it wasn t for the existence of Claudius, who
took over the throne instead. Perhaps Hamlet is grieving the loss of this position to his uncle. The
context of the Oedipal complex can be applied to this scenario, as Hamlet would be taking the position
of Gertrude s husband, which according to Freud, satisfies the subconscious desire universally present
in all humans of wanting to have sex with the parent of the opposite gender. Since this idea is
unacceptable and dangerous to Hamlet, he subconsciously transfers his mourning for the loss of his
position as Gertrude s husband to mourning for the loss of his father in an act of displacement.
Evidence for the Oedipal complex can be found in Hamlet s anger at Gertrude for so quickly
remarrying to Claudius and not showing proper grief towards her former husband, King Hamlet. In act
3 scene 4, Hamlet rebukes Gertrude for a deed ...as bad, good mother, / As kill a king and marry his
brother (lines 29 30). In this scene, Hamlet claims that Gertrude was King Hamlet s killer, which is
contradictory to what the King Hamlet s Ghost had stated: that Claudius had killed him. To explain
this logical inconsistency, the psychoanalytic element of condensation must be understood, as
according to Freud, condensation and displacement are closely related. Condensation is the
representation of multiple emotions in a single idea. Several meanings are condensed into one image.
An example of condensation in Hamlet can be found in the relationship between Hamlet and King
Hamlet s Ghost. Throughout the play, it is unclear whether the Ghost is real or simply a figment of
Hamlet s imagination. In act 1 scene 1, the Ghost appears to the castle guards as ...this dreaded sight
twice seen of us (line 23). Horatio and Marcellus have seen the

Computer Based Instruction As An Adult Learner
Computer based instruction, or CBI, is widely used to deliver content to learners of all ages. Although
this form of instructional delivery has become nearly ubiquitous, levels of effectiveness of CBI vary,
particularly when considering computer based instruction for adults. In 2005, researchers Janis Lowe
and Elwood Holton, III developed a theory regarding the elements necessary for an effective CBI
experience with adult learners and then drew five conclusions based on their investigation. Lowe and
Holton (2005) acknowledged a need for both external support and instructional support if an adult
learner s CBI experience will be deemed positive. Of their five conclusions, this one was of particular
interest to me based on the different computer based instruction experiences I have had. My first
experience with a course conducted completely using computer based instruction as an adult learner
occurred during the fall semester of 2007. I was nearing the completion of my first Master s degree
and enrolled in ED500A, which was an educational research class. Although I had extensive
experience utilizing technology and the Internet, and had dabbled in CBI, this course was conducted
entirely online and proved to be challenging for me. The challenges were not due to the content, but
were based on the limited connectivity with other course participants and the instructor. I quickly
adapted to the format of the course expectations and developed a schedule in order to meet

Change. No one wants to accept it; no one wants to live with it. Why is it? Is it because we lack the
willingness to change ourselves or is it because we don t want it? None of it, it is mainly because we
fear change. But the fact is we can t stop it from happening. We either adapt to change, or we get left
behind. But here s the fun fact: Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. And
sometimes, change is excellent. Sometimes, change is everything we want. Its funny how things
appear the same every passing day but when we look back, many things have changed! To perform a
Greek drama we need three things; they are audience, performers and something to perform. I must
exclaim that it is the same with modern theatre. All the three elements are required today also. So does
it means nothing has changed in past twenty five hundred years? I don t think so. From presentation of
a particular subject to the elitism in the drama, everything has changed over period of time.
I choose to write about the transformation in status of women from Greek drama to Victorian Era
because it is a form of triumph. Along with progress in field of science and technology, the inevitable
revolution in the field of literature shouldn t be disregarded. In Prometheus Bound, the character of Io
is very destitute and desolated. Where as, Mrs. Erlynne is portrayed as an autonomous and liberated
woman. It s not the drama that has strained the writers to inscribe particular response for the

Walmart Business Model Canvas Project
Introduction We chose Walmart as the company to focus on for our business model canvas project.
Considering that Walmart is the world s largest retailer, as well as largest private employer, there is a
plethora of information on this mammoth company. Sam Walton, Walmart s founder, had a simple and
noble vision for his stores; he said, [We wanted to] reduce the cost of living for the people who
shopped in our stores (Soderquist, 2016). To this end, he created the big box retail format that we see
in Walmart and other stores today. He envisioned a place where consumers could do their all their
shopping under one roof and benefit from the discount pricing made possible by buying in bulk. His
vision has given the world Walmart and Sam s Club stores, as well as defining the big box business
model that many others have copied. Value Propositions For the Value Propositions section of the
Walmart Business Model Canvas we found that the following points to be relevant: 1) Walmart strives
to bring good value to its customers under one roof. They provide a wide variety of goods and brands
at competitive prices. 2) In a typical Walmart store one can get a prescription filled, get their car
serviced, buy school supplies, garden supplies, clothes, electronics, etc., and even do their grocery
shopping. 3) Walmart offers price matching against local competitors and select online retailers. 4)
Walmart accepts a variety of coupons, from print at home Internet coupons and

The Man In The Dead Machine Poem
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine , the main theme is about fate and how sometimes neither
outcomes is what you want. Lord of the Flies mirrors this when the boys firstly land on the island and
when Simon is killed. Both pieces, discuss how both outcomes of a scenario aren t favourable and
how you can t ever be at peace with your outcome.
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine , the central image is about fate, fate decides your life and
how no matter what the outcome may be, you ll never fully recover from the events. In the second
stanza, it s about how if the man had died in his aircraft, and been left there for a long time, shown by

He s dead, but he s at peace and not struggling day to day with memories of the experience and the
trauma that comes with it in the third stanza. In the third stanza, it shows a different ending; if the
shrapnel missed him (line 18/19), where he isn t dead but his thoughts are always about the plane and
how he feels trapped by them. He thinks back to when he was in the Hellcat (conveniently named
since his life is now like hell for him), and how going on the train every morning and sitting there
affects him, and brings him back to when he was in the plane. In Lord of the Flies, it reflects with how
the boys will never be at peace. If both the boys and the pilot had died, they would be at peace because
now they don t have to fight anymore. The pilot fights later in his life after the fighter jet, and the boys
experience it all on the island. The pilot has flashbacks everyday about his life, and the boys go
slightly insane and become savages. These boys we re the ones saved and not dragged out to sea
(chapter one, page 3). But later on in the novel it s debatable if really they were saved based on some
of the very irrational decisions they make. Or in chapter seven when they are pretending to hunt and
are using Robert as the pig. They attack Robert and he tries to escape the circles

Leo Africanus Accomplishments
Born in the Renaissance era as al Hassan ibn Muhammad al Wazzam, Leo Africanus came from
Granada, a city found at the bottom of the mountains in Andalusia, Spain. Even though he was not
technically raised here, this is the place that he always acknowledged and claimed to be his true city.
His name literally means the son of Muhammad the weigh master. Shortly after his birth, this city was
conquered by the Catholics, Isabella and Ferdinand. The once diverse city, where Muslims, Jews,
Christians, etc coexisted, became divided. The Kings apparently decided, around 1492, that they

Nike Of Samothrace Greek Goddess Comparison
Nike of Samothrace is a sculpture from 190 BCE, first found on Samothrace, a Greek island, in 1863.
This statue is a female figure with wings, wearing a flowing gown. It s said to represent Nike, the
Greek Goddess of Victory, and her winning in battle. It shows various elements of the Hellenistic
period, such as the use of space and dimension. The Snake Goddess is a 1600 BCE figurine found in
1903, in Knossos, Crete by the British archaeologist Arthur Evans. It s made of Faience, a glass like
material, and it shows a large breasted women whose holding two snakes on each of her hands
supporting a feline like figure on her head, and it s wearing what seems to be a long layered skirt with

Her complex clothing calls attention to her exposed breast, very slim waist and wide hips,
exaggerating her sexual features. These exaggerated features are caused by her ornamental dress. The

bring the typical Minoan dresses alive. Her body is mostly proportional, except for her hands which
seem to be too small for her body. Not a common detail on Minoan sculptures so it s most likely not
intentional. The Nike of Samothrace is an example of Hellenistic sculpture. Nike s wings are open and
the diagonal thrust of her body makes it seem as if she s turning while moving forward. The details on
the marble show her gown still tugged by the breeze created as she landed on the front of a ship. Her
body is farily Classical, except for the thickness of her hips. The texture of her feathers, the flutter of
her clothing and the openness of her body gives an illusion that captures attention as never

The Five Eighty Eight By John Cheever
What personality traits do we display with our actions? Our personalities are shaped by our life
experiences and the people around us. They re shaped by our upbringing, the way our parents treated
us and the many thing we learned from them. They re shaped by our past experiences whether a being
on the receiving end of a kind deed by another person, or the receiving end of a gross injustice. These
experiences shape our personalities and in turn shape how we view the world and treat those around
us. John Cheever s The Five Forty Eight is the story about a woman trying to put herself back together
after being broken, albeit in a slightly questionable way. Miss Dent is a woman who previously spent
8 months in a hospital, and is still clearly a bit unhinged. She is a fragile woman who becomes
attached to Mr. Blake after he hires her as his secretary. Mr. Blake sees how vulnerable she is and
takes advantage of her, afterwards having an employee fire her and keep her from seeing him. Months
later Miss Dent stalks Mr. Blake, cornering him on the Five Forty Eight. Mr. Blake is terrified, but
Miss Dent claims she will not kill him as long as he listens to her. After Miss Dent has made him feel
the way he made her, she leaves him on the platform; weeping as he made her, but unharmed. Many
aspects of Mr. Blake s personality are displayed throughout the story as we observe his thoughts and
the way he treats others. Two powerful personality traits dominate Mr. Blake in John Cheever s

Histamine Diet Benefits
Benefits of a Low Histamine Diet for Allergies and More
When you experience an allergic or inflammatory response, histamines are produced within your
body, causing smooth muscle contraction and capillary dilation, (as well as those annoying bouts of
sneezing, wheezing, itching, and generally being miserable).
Histamine is in your body to protect it and keep it safe from potential poisons. At the right level, you
hardly even notice it.
However, if you have a condition called histamine intolerance, your body gives you no choice but to
notice.
Histamine isn t only found in your body. It is also in your food. Or, to put it more accurately, it s the
bacteria on food which naturally produce histamine as part of their metabolic process.

Langston Hughes Silhouette
Many writers of the past and even today have attempted to openly talk of African American racial
biases, hatred and aggression issues. Langston Hughes was very successful in shinning the light in this
subject through his poem Silhouette which was written in 1949. Through his selective yet literal
choice of words Hughes created a powerful and haunting image of African American injustice and
atrocities.
The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the reader
to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man. The poem
was really powerful in part because of the hostile era during the early and late 1940s where being near
white women was forbidden and for which several African Americans especially in the South were
lynched or brutally punished. This aspect grabbed the essential audience and created the perfect
atmosphere to deliver his message through the poem, because all ... Show more content on

Hughes seems to do intentionally to be sarcastic because in a respectful and pleading manner he tells
the white lady not to tempt a black man because of the outcomes. As well, do not swoon could be
interpreted in many different ways but it seems to exonerate the white gently lady from the actions
taken against this man. The poem is very straightforward, literal and bold by explicitly narrating and
portraying the hanging of a black man for the protection of a white woman. Hughes is blatant in his

Essay on Massachusetts Bay Colony
The government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was simultaneously theocratic, democratic,
oligarchic, and authoritarian in different ways. The Puritans founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony in
1628 and wanted a well established government, but they ended up mixing all of these together. This
colony was important because it was one of the first provincial and true governments to be introduced
into the colonies. It also provided an example to other colonies to base their governments on.
The Massachusetts Bay Colony can be said to have been partly theocratic based on a couple of
reasons. For example, the Puritans believed that they had a covenant with God to build a society that

This control from a small group of people may have been what the people thought was the right thing
to do at the time, but it was somewhat why they had come to the New World in the first place was to
get rid of a single person ruling everyone.
Last but not least the government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was partly authoritarian for many
reasons. The colony favored a strict set of rules and taxes and stuck to them. This shows the
authoritarian government. The Governor set the taxes and laws based on the will of the church and
what was the right thing to do. They even had strict rules about kissing in public, and various other
inappropriate things considered to be wrong by the church. Some states were nicknamed after the
color of the paper that the laws were printed on. The irony of this is that the people wanted to live an
easier life with more freedom from the government and religion, but then proceeded to promote and
carry out repressive laws such as kissing in public.
As you can see the Massachusetts Bay Colony was very diverse in its form of government and how
the colony was run. Some people say it consists of a mix of all of these forms of governments
(theocracy, democracy, oligarchy, and authoritarian) when in fact the government was one of a kind
and very influential to other colonies. It helped other colonies because it helped them decided to take

Journey Short Story
We exited the cave, and it gave way to the castle s large and wall less garden, where many gathered.
Some sat on blankets for winter picnics, while others danced to a folk tune I didn t recognize, but it
was the young woman in a black dress that made me smile. With all caution and care, she played with
a group of five to eight children. They didn t cry, but offered simple smiles, laughter and giggles, as
her game of Ring Around the Rosie, switched to Duck, Duck Goose.
It brought a tear to my eye to know that those who had departed had indeed found some respite, some
semblance of peace that transcended time and space, and those children were cared for, loved even.
Scanning the area, I shielded my eyes from the blinding white snow and ... Show more content on

You told him to watch over me?
Of course. Loki is selfish. He wouldn t do anything so kind for anyone if not ordered.
Loki remained standing next to me, still. I clenched my fists and jaw.
You don t look so well, Thor said. Something wrong?
I braced myself from the blizzard forming in my mind. Loki had blinded me with his charm, and I d
let him.
Yes, Midgard is being overrun, Loki interjected. We must return to assist in its defense.
Thor turned his attention back to me, and seeing his glee, I hated every moment of it. You came for me
like I knew you would. He gushed.
To me, I could still smell Loki on my skin. That of sugar, honey and desire. It now began to mix with
regret and betrayal.
You knew I would? My voice squeaked.
You have always been such a force to reckon with, one of honor and courage. I knew you d make sure
that I, no we, could defend Midgard, and with you being here now, the gate shall open and I can
finally leave. Thor headed back in the direction from which Loki and I came.
Loki reached out to take my hand. I snatched it out of his grasp.
You did this. I knew something was off, but instead of listening to my instinct, that little voice inside, I
gave you the benefit of the doubt.
I stomped through the snow behind Thor s long strides.
Sif, listen Loki rubbed my arms up and down and attempted to calm me.
I waited for him to say something, anything, to prove I was wrong.

Arguments For The Treaty Of Versailles
The reparations outlined in the Treaty of Versailles sparked an outrage because many thought that it
was unfair to not directly state the amount of reparations that were going to be paid. That is a valid
argument, but most people were not aware of what kind of state Germany was in even after the war.
Margaret Macmillan brings up a huge point in saying that after the war, Germany was also potentially
very powerful. Its infrastructure was largely untouched by the war; it had a large and educated
population; and, even without Austria, it was the biggest country in Europe west of the new Soviet
Russia (Pg.3). Even though it was not directly stated how much in reparations they were going to pay,
Germany was capable of paying it off. For many other countries, the amount of $33 billion would take
possibly up to a century to pay off, and it only took Germany a generation. Like Macmillan said,
Germany had the infrastructure to keep their economy strong and the smarts to pay off that massive
amount of debt with ease. Even though it was unfair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, when looking at the treaty in depth, you see that not all of it was totally unreasonable. Inside the
Treaty of Versailles, it states that Germany will not be allowed to join the League of Nations. The
League was a group formed after the first World War and meant to be a group of countries coming
together to make up a national peace group, just like the United Nations. Even though the League was
an utter failure, Germany should not have been allowed to join it. The rule was set for all instigators in
the war, that they would not be a part of the League at that moment. Not many people argue the fact
that Germany was not allowed in the League of Nations, because they helped start a World War.
Germany did not disagree with this term because they understood why they were not allowed to join
the League. This term was fair because Germany was excluded due to

Similarities And Differences Between Thomas More And Utopia
Plato s The Republic and Thomas More s Utopia are both influential texts duringearly socialist period
which explore philosophsical and moral discussions of justice, injustice and freedom in an intension to
gain an deep insight into the ideal society. As a matter of common knowledge that Thomas More s
Utopia is patterned after Plato s Republic.(Thomas, 1982). Therefore, More was mostly influnenced
by Plato s values and ideas demonstrated in The Republic and borrowed these to write his idealistic
society Utopia, as a roughly framework. Meanwhile, More s Utopia as well as exhibits his own

intrinsic differences between the two works. It is no accident then, indeed, it is a perfectly sensible

comparing and contrasting his ideas with that of Plato. More s ideal society concentrated on the main
spirit of equality and justice whereas Plato s desired Republic revolved around the formation of
perfect society, philosopher king leadership to govern the society. Despite More s Utopia was being
written approximately a millennium apart from Plato s The Republic , More simultaneously
undermined many aspects of Plato s Republic whist retaining fundamental similarities. These

Dick on the other hand acts out. He is still his same cold hearted self, trying to kill people and trying

wash it off. With going through all of those gopher mounds, the haybine gets really jammed packed
with hard dirt and clay and rocks. This by itself takes at least an hour to get done because there is hay
in all the nooks and crannies of the haybine also, so you have to find the hay and try to blow it out.
This is actually a lot harder than it sounds, just take my word for it. Once you are one step closer to
being done, you have to fold the haybine in and park it in the machinery lot. Now folding it in with
two people is quite simple. But when you only have yourself to try and fold it in, it becomes about
100% harder. There is a rop you have to pull and it is spring loaded, so you have to quickly pull the
rope, sprint onto the tractor, and back onto the block that you place benefit the tire of the haybine.
Like I said before, a lot harder than it may seem. After you try for the 5th time to run fast enough to
the tractor and back into the block, you finally get the haybine folded in. You can go park it in the
machinery lot, and go fuel up the tractor out of the 500 gallon diesel fuel tank that is on the farm.
Once you re all fueled up for the next time you need the tractor, you can finally go back the tractor in

go feed your money makers once again. The cows of course are the money makers. Feed the cows for

stories are written by two different authors namely, E.B White and Welty respectively. The purpose of
this paper is to analyze and explain the stories and also compare them in order to enhance the value of
this paper. The comparison of both the stories will be in the form of analysis in which the similarities

childhood memories more than he owns his responsibilities. The most prominent of his childhood
memories is the lake that he used to visit with his father during his childhood. In the story he plans to
visit the lake again so as to make his childhood memories fresh again and the hidden wish was that he
could return to his childhood. However, that does not happen in the story because it is an impossible

Poverty And Inequality In Ethiopia
Statement of the Problem
Poverty and inequality are a concern to both developing and developed nations across the world
(Melamed, 2014; Shepherd et al., 2014). These problems are more serious in developing countries like
Ethiopia (UNDP, 2013). Poverty is so widespread and prevalent in Ethiopia that the country is
amongst the poorest nations in the world (UNDP, 2013).
Recently, Ethiopian government claimed that poverty and inequality are declining in all regions
(MoFED, 2013). However, empirical literature shows that poverty, in general, and chronic and
transitory poverty, in particular, have long history in rural areas and show growing trends (Adugna,
2012).
For sustained fight against rural poverty and inequality; and for realization of poverty and inequality

In large part, this has reflected the emerging understanding that, in order to reduce poverty,
policymakers need information on both the current incidence of poverty and also the magnitude of the
threat of poverty, measured ex ante (Calvo and Dercon, 2005). Such a perspective implicitly
recognises that poverty is a stochastic phenomenon. To that end, while the current incidence of
poverty is a critical indicator of wellbeing it provides limited foresight into future poverty. Rather,
whether a household is likely to fall into poverty in the future is also determined by its exposure to a
variety of different shocks as well as its ability to effectively cope in the face of shocks.
Yet little empirical work has been done that examines the vulnerability of households in Melanesian
countries, such as Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands to experiencing povetry. This is despite the fact
that both countries are renowned for being acutely vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks

Classroom Instruction And Lesson Planning Process
Appropriate texts, knowledge transformation, and learner development are all connected under the
umbrella of Content Area Literacy. According to Hodges (2015), comprehension is the ultimate goal
of content area literacy and all of this attributes play part in reaching that goal. All are important
concepts to apply to our classroom instruction and lesson planning process. It is not just about reading
the text well, but actually understand what is being said by the writer. This can be understood in many
of these concepts.
I enjoyed reading about content area literacy because I never realized that content area teachers are
also teachers of reading. This was very interesting because when we think of a science teacher we
expect them to be good at science and understand only that subject area. Though at the same time they
are trying to teach the student to understand the text being read. Many content area teachers do not
know how to help their students become better readers of expository text. According to Wendt (2013),
Although much research exists on the topic of literacy, the wide scope of the field may confuse or
intimidate teachers who serve areas that are not directly related to reading and language.
As a future teacher, I want to facilitate the importance of understanding what is read from the text
whether I teach science, history, etc. I want to teach first or second grade, so this concept is still
important because I need to teach students to transform their knowledge

Catcher In The Ryethyllysine
Fasting glucose may fail to explain the positive relationship between HbA1c and CVD and mortality
(Selvin et al.,2010).Correction for classical risk factors (including smoking, dyslipidaemia,
inflammation) explain the relationship better (van t Riet et al., 2012), suggesting that a shared
mechanism may drive the increase in HbA1c levels. In the glycation pathway, oxidative stress can
increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucose aut oxidation or by fructosamine oxidation
leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism, the Wolff pathway,
suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions, glucose can get
autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The oxoaldehyde ... Show more content

The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product
(fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications that
lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al., 1986,
Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either by
transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This close
interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term glycoxidation, which
describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of these two processes (Baynes,
1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to suggest an active involvement of
oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and hence the increase in the risk of chronic
diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a hypothesis.
MECHANISM OF AGES
AGEs mediate their tissue effects through three main mechanisms: (1) Cross linking extracellular
(matrix) proteins thereby affecting tissue mechanical properties (Zieman et al., 2004) (2) Cross linking
intracellular proteins thus altering their physiological functions(Bidasee et al., 2004) and (3) binding

Tumors can either be small cell lung cancer (SCLC) or non SCLC (NSCLC). Non SCLC accounts for
most of the incidences and carries a 5 year survival rate of 15%.1 On average, it is the metastases of
the primary tumor that cause death. NSCLC is often diagnosed late where available treatment options
such as surgery or radiation will be ineffective .2 Because of its nature, metastasis of cancer is not
fully understood as it cannot occur in vitro.2 It has been discovered that the cascade of events follows
similar pathways in each type of metastatic cancer: detachment of cells from ECM, invasion of
neighboring tissue, intravastation into the blood or lymph system, and subsequent extravasation at a
distal site of the metastatic lesion.1 Treatments have included chemotherapy, radiation, surgery if
applicable and other targeted therapies like immunotherapy and EGFR inhibitors.2 In the past, due to
the difficulty of treating and ineffectiveness, chemotherapy was not the treatment when the patient
was diagnosed with NSCLC. Instead, supportive care was offered. Meta analysis has demonstrated
that chemotherapy has offered slight improvements in quality of life and reduction of symptoms
since.3 These chemotherapy drugs work best when combined with a source of platinum, which can be
difficult given the substantial risk of toxicities.4 To combat the difficulties of treating NSCLC, and
deliver the chemotherapy that could potentially increase survival rates while lowering toxicity

Truck Drivers Research Paper
Nearly everything you see in stores and even in your home was, at some point, transported overland
by a truck. Tractor trailer rigs in particular, haul cargo over longer distances than those covered by
local delivery trucks. Because of this, they carry much heavier loads and can weigh up to 80,000
pounds. This makes them 20 to 30 times heavier than the average car.
Truck drivers must obey the same traffic rules as other vehicles on the road and like many motorists,
their negligence can cause an accident. However, in a tractor trailer accident, the result can be
devastating to the occupants of the other vehicle. Their overwhelming size and weight can completely

Truck drivers with multiple traffic violations and tractor trailer accidents on their driving record are
somehow able to get rehired several times. These types of drivers rarely improve their records because
of their dangerous driving habits. Habits are notoriously difficult to change.
Trucking carriers are increasingly hiring inexperienced drivers because of the current driver shortage.
Most of the experienced drivers are retiring, which means a dangerously large percentage of truck

Truck drivers are distracted by many of the same things as the ordinary motorist. These include cell

The web page also contains a daily trivia question that is worth extra credit if answered correctly. Mrs.
Randus classroom exemplified a third wave school (Cushner et al., 2000). The technology was very
impressive and up to date. The students of her class are very lucky to be on the cutting edge of
technology.
When the children returned from recess some of them returned to their seats and began to work on
projects, while others crowded around the computers to view the new additions to their web site. The
children looked excited and eager to learn. It was obvious from the beginning of the observation that
Mrs. Randus practices progressivism (Clark, 2000). Her students were given the free will to do as they
pleased when first entering the classroom. By letting her students explore the contents of the class web
page, they were learning through discovery and working together in communities around the
computers. It was also evident when she started class with a vote that she practices the progressivism
theory of education (Clark, 2000). She asked the children if they wanted to go to the library first or

Similarities Between Anne Bradstreet And Phillis Wheatley
Floriberto Solorzano
Ms. Shorey
ENG: 2130
3 September 2016 Anne Bradstreet Compared work with Phillis Wheatley Anne Bradstreet, Daughter
of the one governor and first published poet in America, was classified as a classic religious poet and
also was also considered a very modern poet who really focused on her everyday life and all of her
daily activates. Phillis Wheatley, enslaved at the age of 6, and became the first black women poet in
America wote mostly classical poetry and had many Christian views. Her poetry used pyscholical
meaning and also used poetic devices. Although both poets were to very respected poets of there time
both are also very different compared to their work. Phillis Wheatley s poetry was more in depth,
thoughtful, and had somewhat more stylish than the work of Anne s Bradstreet s. Anne s Bradstreet s
greatest influence on her writings was religion. As a child she was brought up as puritan therefore she
has puritan beliefs that was showed in her poems. However, In some of her writings it seems she was
struggled with her belief in God. Just like Phillis Wheatley, Anne Bradstreet used a literal device
called inversions and also used many religious references. In Anne s Bradstreet s poem Here Follow

mine, Far be it that I should Repine. (122). Here she was making references to her God and realizes

Relational Database Management Systems ( Rdbmss ) Essay
At the U.S. Census Bureau, hundreds, perhaps more than a thousand heterogeneous databases are
currently operating. Some divisions have standardized the database technology on Oracle, while
others are using a combination of Sybase, MySQL, SQL Server, etc. These Relational Database
Management Systems (RDBMSs), supporting many databases and applications and each hosted on
dedicated servers, are often under utilizing the server resources available to them. Such a database
infrastructure, therefore, is not cost , or resource effective from a maintenance or administrative
standpoint. Consequently, the best solution to mitigate these issues involves the implementation of
database consolidation technology. Database consolidation is the process of centralizing database
resources, so that they are shareable among several databases and instances. In other words, it is the
process of consolidating databases from multiple servers onto one or fewer servers. For example,
Multitenant Architecture of Oracle 12c moves the database management principle to a completely new
level with database consolidation. Consequently, for the U.S. Census Bureau, consolidation initiatives
such as the following are beneficial:
Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) fewer licenses and fewer administrative personnel
Improved availability improved service level agreements (SLAs)
Improved security security on a consolidated server is easier to administer than on several individual
servers

Áine was one of the most beautiful and powerful of the Celtic Goddesses, and was one of many that
the Christian monks wanted to get rid of, mostly because she had relations with so many different

Essay on The Pros and Cons of Ethnographic Reflexivity
The Advantages and Limits of Ethnographic Reflexivity
Awareness of writing choices generates an appreciation of the reflexivity of ethnographic research.
Reflexivity involves the recognition that an account of reality does not simply mirror reality but rather
creates or constitutes as real in the first place whatever it describes. Thus the notion of reflexivity
recognizes that texts do not simply and transparently report an independent order of reality. Rather, the
texts themselves are implicated in the work of reality construction (Emerson et. al., 1995:213).
According to Robert M. Emerson and colleagues, reflexivity is a method in which the ethnographer is
aware that his/her writing choices are shaped to acknowledge the ... Show more content on

In her ethnography she writes how she had to reconstruct her self in order to fit in to Japanese society.
She looked Japanese but she did not act the way a native Japanese would act. Her informants than
taught her how to act like a native and in this process she began to understand aspects of the Japanese
culture. She mentions:
These factors perhaps gave me a certain kind of participatory understanding of certain aspects of
Japanese society. It also meant that, once I became an active participant in various groups (family,
factory, etc.) my knowledge was circumscribed. For example, therefore did not have free access to
certain people, and I could not ask certain questions that a foreigner less aware of indelicacy could
have posed with impunity (84).
In forming a self in Japanese society she notes that one is more accessible to gaining further
understanding about the culture being studied. Thus, she critiques the traditional ethnographic
methods because she finds that older text make objective assumptions that are not necessary the reality
of a culture. The assumptions than are seen as the true reality and full understanding of a culture. On
the contrary, reflexivity implies that ethnographic knowledge is intrinsically incomplete and relative
(84). Thus she suggest, that the best path to studying cultures is to acknowledge our bias, assumptions
and that of our informants to trace the parameters, the

Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting
Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that are not easily made
on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip. The water
inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited onto the
mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a hollow
cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its commercial applications.
Because of its low cost and ease of mass production, many everyday items have been casted using slip
such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is
another asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has
many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip
casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or
spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very
consistent results, results like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays,
non plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an
electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. Less water results in far less shrinkage
and greater strength. On the other hand, a

Forbidden Love in The God of Small Things written by...
This essay focuses on the theme of forbidden love, The God of Small Things written by Arundhati
Roy. This novel explores love and how love can t be ignored when confronted with social boundaries.
The novel examines how conventional society seeks to destroy true love as this novel is constantly
connected to loss, death and sadness. This essay will explore the theme of forbidden love, by
discussing and analysing Ammu and Velutha s love that is forbidden because of the Love Laws in
relation to the caste system which results in Velutha s death. It is evident that forbidden love
negatively impacts and influences other characters, such as Estha and Rahel, which results in Estha
and Rahel s incestuous encounter.

Besides the relationship between Ammu and Velutha, the twins also share a bond of friendship with
Velutha, with the man they weren t supposed to love , suggesting that despite the fact that Velutha is
an Untouchable the twins are tremendously fond of him. The three children, Estha , Rahel and Sophie
Mol visit Velutha and have a tea party, he greeted them with the utmost courtesy , suggests that he
respects and admires the children. It is only now, these years later, that Rahel with adult hindsight ,
recognized the sweetness of this gesture. A grown man entertaining three raccoons, treating them like
real ladies , this implies that Velutha is extremely playful with the children as he lets them paint his
nails red as well as they come dressed as ladies in saris and it is only now that Rahel realises how kind
it was of Velutha to play along with their game.
Estha and Rahel accept that they have no Baba, but are immensely influenced when their mothers
affair is revealed.
The theme of foribben love is presented, when Estha is sexually molested by the Orangedrink
Lemondrink man in the lobby of a movie theatre. He is interrogated and terrified by him ,that

Lear and his entourage spark Goneril s anger. She voices her opinions and decides to demand her

remainders that shall still depend / to be such men as may besort your age, / Which know themselves,

him; traditionally, a parent scolds the child. She makes it clear that she is fixing this immediately

Edmund, his bastard son, wants land and money that his title does not have access to. He creates a
plan to fool both his father and brother. Edmund forges a letter written from the perspective of his
brother, Edgar, that accuses Gloucester of being selfish and favors the possibility of his murder. After
Gloucester catches Edmund reading the letter, Edmund says, I beseech you, sir, pardon me. It is a
letter / from my brother...I find it not fit for you o erlooking (Act 1, scene 2, lines 37 20). Edmund
disrespects his father by lying to him. He taunts his father with the letter because he knows that the
power of curiosity overcomes the desire to obey. By cautioning Gloucester, Edmund acts as if he is
taking care of his father in order to instill immediate trust between himself and his father. He further
fools his father by saying, It is his hand, my lord; but I hope his heart is / not in the contents (Act 1,
scene 2, lines 69 70). Edmund uses reverse psychology when he pretends to hope that is brother is
playing a cruel joke. This causes Gloucester to favor Edmund and trust him more in the moment. After
his father falls for his plan, Edmund is delighted with his success. Content, he cries, This is the
excellent foppery of the world... (Act 1, scene 2, line 119). Edmund s disrespect increases when he

Cathedral Hill Hospital
Cathedral Hill hospital
Client s requirements:
The owner California pacific medical center, an affiliate of Sutter health came up with the project of
building a new medical center known as the Cathedral Hill Hospital within the San Francisco metro
area. In 2002, California pacific medical center hired the architecture firm, Smith group under the
Sutter s multiparty contract, integrated form of agreement (IFOA) to design the 860,000 sf, 14 level
hospital that could house 555 beds. Sutter was also involved in cost predictability and hence they used
Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) as a company. In addition to this, Schedule predictability was also a
vital reason for using IPD to encounter the various critical variables of the project. The client also
wanted to implement and execute BIM so as to achieve the designated goals. As per the requirement
following are the list of owner s design goals:
Excellence in clinical care
Education
Community Service
Patient satisfaction
Family involvement with the patient
Private room
With the progress of the project, the owner (Client) came up with various additional items they desired
to add, mainly referred to as the value added items and stalked them on separate budget line because
they were not intended in the original program or estimated maximum cost. As the team reduced costs
through innovation, coordination and teamwork, they were able to incorporate some of the value
added items the client desired.

My Story Short Story
My story Beginnings First of all I was born in Peoria, IL November 11, 2004 we have 6 people in my
family, my brother Michael my two sisters Erica and Rebecca and my parents Mike and Judy. I have a
funny story when my brother michael was born, my dad drove down a one way street. Anyway back
to my story growing up I loved baseball and any sports I could play really. I was really active as a
child and would get my hands on anything I could even If that means pulling a 100 dollar bill out of
my mom s purse. Growing up I didn t really like school that much I really just wanted to explore or
play. But I am really glad I went to kindergarten because if I didn t I wouldn t of met a lot of my
friends. But then came 1st grade I didn t really expect 1st grade to be fun but surprising it really was.
2nd and 3rd grade was probably the most fun. Because we got to do a to of parties and it was super
fun. And even in 4th grade we go to do a pilgrim experience which was really fun. We got to bring our
own snacks which was awesome but the only thing that was not good was for the boys we had to wear
a dress up shirt which was really hot in the room. And another awesome thing we got to do in grade
school was go on really cool field trips. Like tanners orchard and lincoln s old house. But from 4th
grade to 5th grade was really weird because there was a bunch of people who I didn t know. And for

  • 2. Bear Hunting in New Jersey Bear Hunting in New Jersey The head of the New Jersey Environmental Protection Agency has resumed the black bear hunts that had been paused for five years due to over hunting. In this time, the population of black bears has risen once again to a safe level for hunting, and the republican controlled government has allowed hunters to resume their hunting. Some wildlife activists see the hunts as unnecessary and cruel, and wish to defend the bears. This belief is opposed by the hunting organizations that have pointed to a long history of hunting, as well as the potential danger that black bears present, as points that may hinder their cause. I am on the side of the hunters, as I think that the government s job is to make sure both the bears are protected and the hunters are happy, and therefore a happy medium must be reached. Too many black bears can be dangerous for the residents of New Jersey. (Nuwer, 2011) They are migrating animals, and often enter into human neighborhoods in search of food often found in people s waste bins. This has led the NRA and other hunting groups to petition the state government on the issue of bear hunting for safety. Activist groups believe that taking better precautions to secure garbage around the state of New Jersey would keep the bears away from human areas, and that there are other ways to curb population growth besides hunting bears. These wildlife activists also point out that bears are usually passive, and unless threatened, are less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. History And Historical Context Of The Old Testament The history of how the Bible came into existence has been explored for centuries and is an active area of study today. There are many facets to the Bible and each has its own set of unique characteristics and teachings. The Old Testament is considered a contemporary guide for daily living, even though it was composed hundreds of years ago. Where did the Old Testament come from? What are some of the influences that shaped the Old Testament? What are the significant events of the Old Testament? In order to gain a better understanding of the Old Testament and its message to Christians, special consideration is given to its historical and cultural context, and to the major milestones in its development. Personal application of the teachings offered in this section of the Bible should be the aspiration of all Christians today. Cultural and Historical Context of the Old Testament An understanding of Israel s history and geography is necessary for proper interpretation of the Old Testament. The Middle East provided the setting for the events recorded in the Old Testament, specifically Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Syria Palestine. This area lies along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Mesopotamia up to the Persian Gulf. This area was the cradle of civilization and the scene of God s activities as recorded in the Old Testament. The majority of the events take place in Palestine, the ancient land of Canaan, though at times the Israelites lived in Egypt and Babylon. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For me, growing up around my sisters shaped the way I viewed things and behaved, and likewise; with Aboriginal peoples, their culture has formed their beliefs and views. In regards to land, they believe in preserving the environment, rather than to build upon it and westernise. Aboriginal peoples identify and feel a sense of belonging to their land with the evidence of rock engravings and artwork. They are people as much as white people are, therefore, I have learned to spell it with a capital, be aware of the different groups within Aboriginal peoples (Kaurna, etc.), and to say Aboriginal peoples rather than Aboriginal because it sounds discriminative and segregated. I acknowledge Aboriginal peoples were the First Nation peoples to settle in Australia; therefore, they have created the fundamental base of adaption for the white peoples, such as digging sticks, rocks to carve with, and even the invention of the Didgeridoo. Although the Sea People destroyed their domain a couple of times, the Assyrians still managed to revive creating the Neo Assyrian Empire, in which their realm expanded especially in the Middle East and took control over Egypt. During the Neo Assyrian Empire, the Assyrians were able to master the skill at using chariots and the proficiency of iron smelting. They developed iron weapons and the first true cavalry force that gave them a huge advantage over their neighbors who still used copper and tin weapons. Consequently, the Assyrians became an unrivaled power over the ancient Near East and began exploring artworks and ways they could adorn their cities. • 11. Ambiguity Of Compatibilism The logical positivist philosopher Rudolf Carnap (1978) writes, Metaphysicians are musicians without musical ability. [...] the metaphysician confuses [science and art] and produces a structure which achieves nothing for knowledge and something inadequate for the expression of attitude. (P.80) I agree with this position completely. In the free will debate, compatibilism is the view that physical determinism and human freedom co exist. By arguing compatibilism ultimately changes the subject from human freedom, I claim the concept of free will is meaningless. In essence, compatibilist arguments exploit the ambiguity of language, indefinable metaphysical notions, and unsound reasoning. In this essay, I attempt to eliminate compatibilism. First, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hobbes, an early modern English philosopher, champions materialism that everything is made of matter and in extension, endorses determinism in favor of a mechanistic worldview, that the world straightly follows a set of rigid natural laws. (Chappell, 1999, P. xii) He also believes in free will; a free agent is he that can do if he will, and forbear if he will , in accordance to [his] intrinsical quality . (Hobbes, 1999, P. 39) Hobbes (1999) thinks analogously a river has free will because there is no external impediment , a person s action is free because he is not hindered from it. (P. 95) Free will , for Hobbes (1999), means occurrences without obstacle, in animate or inanimate objects. (P. 96) One can say a drop of rain is free because a raindrop is following its gravitational nature as one agrees human beings are free because they act according to their nature, which is composed of values and desires. (Chappell, 1999, P. xviii) Thus, free actions are not contradictory to a deterministic world because all objects actions follow from their own natures, which imply they are all voluntary and free. • 12. Is Hamlet Grieving For His Father s Death In Hamlet Analysis When analyzing Hamlet under a psychological lens, one can speculate on why exactly Hamlet is so fixated on the death of his father. Is the cause a heartfelt relationship between Hamlet and King Hamlet? Or is Hamlet displacing the real motive for his grief? It is possible that Hamlet is not grieving for his father s death after all, but subconsciously grieving for something else. Due to the death of King Hamlet, Hamlet would have inherited the kingdom if it wasn t for the existence of Claudius, who took over the throne instead. Perhaps Hamlet is grieving the loss of this position to his uncle. The context of the Oedipal complex can be applied to this scenario, as Hamlet would be taking the position of Gertrude s husband, which according to Freud, satisfies the subconscious desire universally present in all humans of wanting to have sex with the parent of the opposite gender. Since this idea is unacceptable and dangerous to Hamlet, he subconsciously transfers his mourning for the loss of his position as Gertrude s husband to mourning for the loss of his father in an act of displacement. Evidence for the Oedipal complex can be found in Hamlet s anger at Gertrude for so quickly remarrying to Claudius and not showing proper grief towards her former husband, King Hamlet. In act 3 scene 4, Hamlet rebukes Gertrude for a deed ...as bad, good mother, / As kill a king and marry his brother (lines 29 30). In this scene, Hamlet claims that Gertrude was King Hamlet s killer, which is contradictory to what the King Hamlet s Ghost had stated: that Claudius had killed him. To explain this logical inconsistency, the psychoanalytic element of condensation must be understood, as according to Freud, condensation and displacement are closely related. Condensation is the representation of multiple emotions in a single idea. Several meanings are condensed into one image. An example of condensation in Hamlet can be found in the relationship between Hamlet and King Hamlet s Ghost. Throughout the play, it is unclear whether the Ghost is real or simply a figment of Hamlet s imagination. In act 1 scene 1, the Ghost appears to the castle guards as ...this dreaded sight twice seen of us (line 23). Horatio and Marcellus have seen the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although this form of instructional delivery has become nearly ubiquitous, levels of effectiveness of CBI vary, particularly when considering computer based instruction for adults. In 2005, researchers Janis Lowe and Elwood Holton, III developed a theory regarding the elements necessary for an effective CBI experience with adult learners and then drew five conclusions based on their investigation. Lowe and Holton (2005) acknowledged a need for both external support and instructional support if an adult learner s CBI experience will be deemed positive. Of their five conclusions, this one was of particular interest to me based on the different computer based instruction experiences I have had. My first experience with a course conducted completely using computer based instruction as an adult learner occurred during the fall semester of 2007. I was nearing the completion of my first Master s degree and enrolled in ED500A, which was an educational research class. Although I had extensive experience utilizing technology and the Internet, and had dabbled in CBI, this course was conducted entirely online and proved to be challenging for me. • 14. Lady Wynmere s Fan by Oscar Wylde Change. No one wants to accept it; no one wants to live with it. Why is it? Is it because we lack the willingness to change ourselves or is it because we don t want it? None of it, it is mainly because we fear change. But the fact is we can t stop it from happening. We either adapt to change, or we get left behind. But here s the fun fact: Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. And sometimes, change is excellent. Sometimes, change is everything we want. Its funny how things appear the same every passing day but when we look back, many things have changed! To perform a Greek drama we need three things; they are audience, performers and something to perform. I must exclaim that it is the same with modern theatre. All the three elements are required today also. So does it means nothing has changed in past twenty five hundred years? I don t think so. From presentation of a particular subject to the elitism in the drama, everything has changed over period of time. I choose to write about the transformation in status of women from Greek drama to Victorian Era because it is a form of triumph. Along with progress in field of science and technology, the inevitable revolution in the field of literature shouldn t be disregarded. Considering that Walmart is the world s largest retailer, as well as largest private employer, there is a plethora of information on this mammoth company. Sam Walton, Walmart s founder, had a simple and noble vision for his stores; he said, [We wanted to] reduce the cost of living for the people who shopped in our stores (Soderquist, 2016). To this end, he created the big box retail format that we see in Walmart and other stores today. He envisioned a place where consumers could do their all their shopping under one roof and benefit from the discount pricing made possible by buying in bulk. His vision has given the world Walmart and Sam s Club stores, as well as defining the big box business model that many others have copied. Value Propositions For the Value Propositions section of the Walmart Business Model Canvas we found that the following points to be relevant: 1) Walmart strives to bring good value to its customers under one roof. They provide a wide variety of goods and brands at competitive prices. 2) In a typical Walmart store one can get a prescription filled, get their car serviced, buy school supplies, garden supplies, clothes, electronics, etc., and even do their grocery shopping. 3) Walmart offers price matching against local competitors and select online retailers. 4) Walmart accepts a variety of coupons, from print at home Internet coupons and ... • 20. The Five Eighty Eight By John Cheever What personality traits do we display with our actions? Our personalities are shaped by our life experiences and the people around us. They re shaped by our upbringing, the way our parents treated us and the many thing we learned from them. They re shaped by our past experiences whether a being on the receiving end of a kind deed by another person, or the receiving end of a gross injustice. These experiences shape our personalities and in turn shape how we view the world and treat those around us. John Cheever s The Five Forty Eight is the story about a woman trying to put herself back together after being broken, albeit in a slightly questionable way. Miss Dent is a woman who previously spent 8 months in a hospital, and is still clearly a bit unhinged. She is a fragile woman who becomes attached to Mr. Blake after he hires her as his secretary. Mr. Blake sees how vulnerable she is and takes advantage of her, afterwards having an employee fire her and keep her from seeing him. Months later Miss Dent stalks Mr. Blake, cornering him on the Five Forty Eight. Mr. Blake is terrified, but Miss Dent claims she will not kill him as long as he listens to her. After Miss Dent has made him feel the way he made her, she leaves him on the platform; weeping as he made her, but unharmed. • 22. Langston Hughes Silhouette Many writers of the past and even today have attempted to openly talk of African American racial biases, hatred and aggression issues. Langston Hughes was very successful in shinning the light in this subject through his poem Silhouette which was written in 1949. Through his selective yet literal choice of words Hughes created a powerful and haunting image of African American injustice and atrocities. The original context of Silhouette was an indirectly stated and strong outcry that persuaded the reader to openly view the injustice towards blacks, in this case the event of hanging a black man. The poem was really powerful in part because of the hostile era during the early and late 1940s where being near white women was forbidden and for which several African Americans especially in the South were lynched or brutally punished. This aspect grabbed the essential audience and created the perfect atmosphere to deliver his message through the poem, because all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Puritans founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1628 and wanted a well established government, but they ended up mixing all of these together. This colony was important because it was one of the first provincial and true governments to be introduced into the colonies. It also provided an example to other colonies to base their governments on. The Massachusetts Bay Colony can be said to have been partly theocratic based on a couple of reasons. For example, the Puritans believed that they had a covenant with God to build a society that would be a model for humankind. This shows partly theocracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This control from a small group of people may have been what the people thought was the right thing to do at the time, but it was somewhat why they had come to the New World in the first place was to get rid of a single person ruling everyone. Last but not least the government of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was partly authoritarian for many reasons. The colony favored a strict set of rules and taxes and stuck to them. This shows the authoritarian government. The Governor set the taxes and laws based on the will of the church and what was the right thing to do. They even had strict rules about kissing in public, and various other inappropriate things considered to be wrong by the church. Some states were nicknamed after the color of the paper that the laws were printed on. The irony of this is that the people wanted to live an easier life with more freedom from the government and religion, but then proceeded to promote and carry out repressive laws such as kissing in public. As you can see the Massachusetts Bay Colony was very diverse in its form of government and how the colony was run. Some people say it consists of a mix of all of these forms of governments (theocracy, democracy, oligarchy, and authoritarian) when in fact the government was one of a kind and very influential to other colonies. It helped other colonies because it helped them decided to take bits and pieces of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With all caution and care, she played with a group of five to eight children. • 25. Arguments For The Treaty Of Versailles The reparations outlined in the Treaty of Versailles sparked an outrage because many thought that it was unfair to not directly state the amount of reparations that were going to be paid. That is a valid argument, but most people were not aware of what kind of state Germany was in even after the war. Margaret Macmillan brings up a huge point in saying that after the war, Germany was also potentially very powerful. Its infrastructure was largely untouched by the war; it had a large and educated population; and, even without Austria, it was the biggest country in Europe west of the new Soviet Russia (Pg.3). Even though it was not directly stated how much in reparations they were going to pay, Germany was capable of paying it off. For many other countries, the amount of $33 billion would take possibly up to a century to pay off, and it only took Germany a generation. Like Macmillan said, Germany had the infrastructure to keep their economy strong and the smarts to pay off that massive amount of debt with ease. Even though it was unfair ... The League was a group formed after the first World War and meant to be a group of countries coming together to make up a national peace group, just like the United Nations. Even though the League was an utter failure, Germany should not have been allowed to join it. The rule was set for all instigators in the war, that they would not be a part of the League at that moment. Not many people argue the fact that Germany was not allowed in the League of Nations, because they helped start a World War. According to Hodges (2015), comprehension is the ultimate goal of content area literacy and all of this attributes play part in reaching that goal. All are important concepts to apply to our classroom instruction and lesson planning process. It is not just about reading the text well, but actually understand what is being said by the writer. This can be understood in many of these concepts. I enjoyed reading about content area literacy because I never realized that content area teachers are also teachers of reading. This was very interesting because when we think of a science teacher we expect them to be good at science and understand only that subject area. Though at the same time they are trying to teach the student to understand the text being read. Many content area teachers do not know how to help their students become better readers of expository text. In the glycation pathway, oxidative stress can increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucose aut oxidation or by fructosamine oxidation leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism, the Wolff pathway, suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions, glucose can get autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product (fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications that lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al., 1986, Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either by transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This close interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term glycoxidation, which describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of these two processes (Baynes, 1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to suggest an active involvement of oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and hence the increase in the risk of chronic diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a hypothesis. Non SCLC accounts for most of the incidences and carries a 5 year survival rate of 15%.1 On average, it is the metastases of the primary tumor that cause death. NSCLC is often diagnosed late where available treatment options such as surgery or radiation will be ineffective .2 Because of its nature, metastasis of cancer is not fully understood as it cannot occur in vitro.2 It has been discovered that the cascade of events follows similar pathways in each type of metastatic cancer: detachment of cells from ECM, invasion of neighboring tissue, intravastation into the blood or lymph system, and subsequent extravasation at a distal site of the metastatic lesion.1 Treatments have included chemotherapy, radiation, surgery if applicable and other targeted therapies like immunotherapy and EGFR inhibitors.2 In the past, due to the difficulty of treating and ineffectiveness, chemotherapy was not the treatment when the patient was diagnosed with NSCLC. • 43. Relational Database Management Systems ( Rdbmss ) Essay At the U.S. Census Bureau, hundreds, perhaps more than a thousand heterogeneous databases are currently operating. Some divisions have standardized the database technology on Oracle, while others are using a combination of Sybase, MySQL, SQL Server, etc. These Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMSs), supporting many databases and applications and each hosted on dedicated servers, are often under utilizing the server resources available to them. Such a database infrastructure, therefore, is not cost , or resource effective from a maintenance or administrative standpoint. Consequently, the best solution to mitigate these issues involves the implementation of database consolidation technology. Database consolidation is the process of centralizing database resources, so that they are shareable among several databases and instances. In other words, it is the process of consolidating databases from multiple servers onto one or fewer servers. For example, Multitenant Architecture of Oracle 12c moves the database management principle to a completely new level with database consolidation. Consequently, for the U.S. Census Bureau, consolidation initiatives such as the following are beneficial: Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) fewer licenses and fewer administrative personnel Improved availability improved service level agreements (SLAs) Improved security security on a consolidated server is easier to administer than on several individual servers Improved ... • 45. Essay on The Pros and Cons of Ethnographic Reflexivity The Advantages and Limits of Ethnographic Reflexivity Awareness of writing choices generates an appreciation of the reflexivity of ethnographic research. Reflexivity involves the recognition that an account of reality does not simply mirror reality but rather creates or constitutes as real in the first place whatever it describes. Thus the notion of reflexivity recognizes that texts do not simply and transparently report an independent order of reality. Rather, the texts themselves are implicated in the work of reality construction (Emerson et. al., 1995:213). According to Robert M. Emerson and colleagues, reflexivity is a method in which the ethnographer is aware that his/her writing choices are shaped to acknowledge the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her ethnography she writes how she had to reconstruct her self in order to fit in to Japanese society. She looked Japanese but she did not act the way a native Japanese would act. Her informants than taught her how to act like a native and in this process she began to understand aspects of the Japanese culture. She mentions: These factors perhaps gave me a certain kind of participatory understanding of certain aspects of Japanese society. It also meant that, once I became an active participant in various groups (family, factory, etc.) my knowledge was circumscribed. For example, therefore did not have free access to certain people, and I could not ask certain questions that a foreigner less aware of indelicacy could have posed with impunity (84). In forming a self in Japanese society she notes that one is more accessible to gaining further understanding about the culture being studied. Thus, she critiques the traditional ethnographic methods because she finds that older text make objective assumptions that are not necessary the reality of a culture. The assumptions than are seen as the true reality and full understanding of a culture. On the contrary, reflexivity implies that ethnographic knowledge is intrinsically incomplete and relative (84). Thus she suggest, that the best path to studying cultures is to acknowledge our bias, assumptions and that of our informants to trace the parameters, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that are not easily made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip. The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass production, many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results, results like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. Less water results in far less shrinkage and greater strength. On the other hand, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
