Compare And Contrast Mental Illnesses
Mental and physical illnesses are both very serious, but also very different. Mental illnesses are often
overlooked, as well as overshadowed by physical illnesses. Mental and physical illnesses, while vastly
different, do have similarities. Both can require intense treatment, and both can get overlooked. The
difference is that mental illnesses are more difficult to diagnose. Say if you break your arm, you know
the bone is broken or fractured. Nobody could argue that. Where if you are always sad and
melancholy, it s just assumed you are having a bad day, or blamed on mood swings. Physical illnesses
are often caused by something specific, whether if it runs in your family, you caught it from somebody
else, or any other reason, there is almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ableism is described as discrimination in favor of able bodied people. It applies to physical as well as
mental illnesses. It is a problem that most people are not aware of, and also accidentally a part of it.
Using terms such as stupid, retarded, crazy, freak, lame, as well as many others. To most people they
are viewed as innocent terms, not as ableist slurs. The best comparison that could be made is that it s
the same situation as using racial slurs. Racial slurs are more well known and fought against compared
to ableist slurs. Ableism is a very real problem, often pushed aside as not a real problem . Most
problems dealing with mental illnesses are overlooked, including ableism. When someone is corrected
on using an ableism, most claim it is because of how they were raised or because they don t find it
offensive . They generally are resistant to change words and phrases they commonly use because they

Interesting Events In The 1980 s
The 1980 s were a very fascinating decade that had a lot going on. They had a lot of important events
happen, many intriguing people, astonishing technological and medical advances and some interesting
fashions and fads.
A lot of events happened in the 1980 s, but two of the most interesting events were the 1989 U.S.
invasion of Panama and the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. The invasion of Panama started
in December 1989. The United States invaded Panama at that time to charge the Panamanian leader,
Manuel Noriega, with drug trafficking offenses. U.S. President Ronald Reagan deployed 24,000
Americans into Panama. All of the fighting ended on January 31, 1990 with America on the winning
side. America captured Noriega and put him on trial in the U.S. He was convicted of his crimes and
sent to prison. Another interesting yet tragic event that happened in ... Show more content on

Ronald Reagan was the fortieth president of the United States; he was loved and hated by many
people. Sara Pendergast, author of the book U.X.L American Decades 1980 1989, writes, Ronald
Reagan captivated millions of Americans with the ability to communicate the need for values such as
patriotism, religion, hard work, and self reliance. Ronald Reagan had many great accomplishments
while he was president, but the biggest one was ending the Cold War with the Soviet Union.Another
compelling person from the 1980 s was Bill Cosby, an actor and comedian. He helped break down
racial barriers on T.V. He is best remembered for his famous sitcom The Cosby Show , which won
numerous Emmy awards and countless other awards. Upon receiving the Presidential Medal of
Freedom in 2002, Cosby stated, I don t think you can bring the races together by joking about the
differences between them. Overall, these were two completely different people, yet they both have

Staying Healthy In Middle Adulthood
Middle adulthood is a time of both gains and losses. The span of middle adulthood is from forty to
sixty years of age, it can be defined as chronologically, contextually, or biologically. Most middle age
people are in good physical, cognitive, and emotional condition. Staying healthy is very important or
middle age adults. Eating healthy is also a very important factor. I think vitamins are good for the
body; they are great supplements that make up for all the protein the body is not receiving. As the
body age blood pressure starts to rise and chances are increased for having a stroke or a heart attack.
Eating fruits and vegetables helps decrease these chances. Eating broccoli, baked potatoes, bananas,
and other foods with skin is a great

Chronological Age And Functional Age
Late adulthood is portrayed in prints, TV and other popular media from various perspectives. In
general, they are depicted as wise, stubborn, love to give advice, have difficulty performing regular
physical activities, some are even in wheelchairs or using assisted canes, and have lots of stories to
tell. It s the period of time when people are supposed to become slower, to get more obsessive, needy,
and look confused most of the time. However, this period has interesting facts to educate each and
every one of us. We are all going to get there, one way or another. Chronological age vs functional age
Everyone grows and ages differently. That is why chronological age is a flawed tool to use to check a
person s functional age. There is a vast variation between chronological age and functional age.
Chronological age is essentially a person s biological age, while functional age is used to dictate the
actual competence and performance of an individual . For example, a 70 year old can actually appear
younger than a 55 year old (Berk 443). Life Expectancy Chronological age doesn t show an accurate
functional age because people age at different rates. The average life expectancy is the number of
years that a person can expect to live based on his birth year and the region he lives in. Over the years,
there have actually been dramatic raise in the average life expectancy. Qualities in lifespan varies

The Characteristics Of Generation X And Generation
Chapter Two
Introduction Purpose
Motivation is the word derived from the word motive which means, needs, desires, wants or drives
within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to action to accomplish the goals. In the
work goal context the psychological factors stimulating the people s behavior can be desire for money,
success, recognition, job satisfaction, teamwork, etc. (Bolles, R. C. 1975.) We have certain needs or
wants these terms will be used interchangeably, and this causes you to do certain thing s behavior,
which satisfy those needs satisfaction, and this can then change which needs/wants are primary either
intensifying certain ones, or allowing you to move on to other ones. People seem to have different
wants. In chapter two we take a look at various characteristics of Generation X and Generation
starting with their backgrounds (Bolles, R. C. 1975).
Review of the Literature
Generation X
Gen Xers learned independence early in life and turned it into a valuable hallmark as they progressed
in the working world. Just as Gen Xers were about to hit the workforce to make their mark in the
world, the economic decline at the end of the 1980s occurred. ( Managing generation X: How to bring
out the best in young talent, 2001) Suddenly the future looked crowded. Competition for jobs was
tight. The American dream had changed. For the first time in history, this generation was being told
that they would not be able to replicate the lifestyles of

Working At Marshall s As A Freshman
While working at Marshall s as a freshman in college, I happened to assist a nice lady (Mrs. R) who I
casually conversed with as I checked her out at the front registers. She found out that I was a CNA
from our conversation and she informed me that she owned her own Homecare company. Mrs. R
handed me her business card before she left and I ended up giving her a call. A few weeks later, I
received a job offer from her and was scheduled for an interview. Even though I was a bit
inexperienced, Mrs. R saw great potential in me and I was beyond appreciative for her judgment.
Fasting forward three years later, I am still employed with Mrs. R s company. I have also worked for

It also warms my heart to witness a client s progression mentally and physically after being diagnosed
with an illness. The most essential goal I have for all of my clients is to make sure they have a smile
on their face before I depart from their home. I also aim to build a foundation of trust by being
confidential with any personal information, if a client chooses to confide in me. With that said, I
strongly believe I can be one of the best clinical mental health counselors.
My specific career goal is to transform individuals lives through mental health. I am going to own a
mental healthcare business which allows me to be an advocate for the youth in raising their self
esteem and self confidence. Many teenagers and children go through domestic violence, bullying,
depression, anxiety and more. What they go through affects their overall self concept when it comes to
viewing themselves in a negative or positive way. I have lived through having a low self concept of
myself during my childhood because I dealt with a lot of bullying in my youth years. I have a great
level of confidence in myself now because I learned that your views of yourself are key in changing
your self concept. My target area of interest is to change the negative views teenagers may have about
themselves and prime them to be the best they can be no matter what they are physically or mentally

The Implications Of Overwhelming Tourism In Venice
The Implications of Overwhelming Tourism in Venice Venice of old was a thriving center of
commerce, but today it has been overrun by tourists. For the Venetians this is a crisis that they are
trying to stop before their way of life is completely lost. Many residents have moved away from the
city due to effects caused by the high tourist traffic. A major part of the identity of Venice lies within
its inhabitants way of life, and the tourists threaten to take that away from them. One of the most
prominent issues of the tourism in Venice is the unsightly cruise ships that obstruct many of their
landmarks. By stopping the large scale tourism that is brought in by the cruise ships in Venice, we may
be able to potentially save Venice and stop other cities from going through a similar crisis.
In this article Horowitz talks about how tourism effects Venice, and how many of its inhabitants view
it. For many, the tourists brought by cruise ships are unwelcomed, but the revenue the tourists bring is
needed by the city. The large tourist traffic often obstructs the regular activity of Venice which is an
essential part of its identity. The enormous cruise ships, which are often big enough to eclipse
structures such as St. Mark s Square, are also another major problem that the Venetians have with the
amount of tourism their home receives. The large scale tourism has taken a drastic toll upon the city s
population as well. The population of Venice has fallen from around

Lou Gehrig s Disease Research Paper
Lou Gehrig s Disease or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a collection of rare neurological
diseases that affect the motor neurons that control the voluntary muscle movements. ALS is a
progressive neurodegenerative illness that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS is a
disease that belongs to a wider group of disorders that are known as motor neuron diseases. This is
caused by gradual deterioration and the death of motor neurons. Amyotrophic comes from the Greek
roots that mean without nourishment to muscles . Lateral means to the side and refers to the position
of the destruction in the spinal cord. Sclerosis means the hardening of the spinal cord.

in the arm or the hand as they might have trouble performing simple tasks such as buttoning a shirt,

awkwardness in walking and running or find that they are stumbling more often. The symptoms of
ALS may affect facial muscles, swallowing and speech. ALS is not usually considered painful. If
motor neurons in the lower spinal cord are involved, movement in the torso, neck and limbs may

The theatrical performance Love Sick directed by the polished Mr. Landmann and performed by the

amusing and even dramatic scenes. I attended this humorous play on October 27 at 3:30 pm, the first

The play was predominantly about nine separate acts which were all relatively similar. All acts have
distinct backgrounds, but they all involve the two characters striving for true love regardless if the two
just met or they have known each other for years. In my opinion, the play went along smoothly and
everything was comprehensible, but the only event

uneducated peasant yet usually a decent prisoner. Except for one morning when he wakes up feeling

A Car Back From A Decrepit State
Bringing a car back from a decrepit state is gratifying, but being able to take it to the maximum level
of engineering is brag worthy. Everyone loves being unique, and showing up at the local meet in
something that stands out is twice as great. More power, more torque, more style, and more
sophistication are all key aspects that will carry your car to the center stage.
Everyone adds their own unique touch to their ride. Devoting a lot of money, though, as with most
things, is the ticket to set you apart. These seven cars are so sinfully well done that we might as well
be begging for forgiveness. Money, time, craftsmanship, and dedication all pushed these princes to
perfection. Not all of these are beauty queens, though, so look out. The last thing we want is you to get
embarrassed if you meet one of them at a stop light start.

Hypervisibility And Invisibility Of The Black Body Essay
Hypervisibility and Invisibility of the Black Body in Citizen Citizen, written by Claudia Rankine in
2014, narrates testimonies of systematic racism and every day micro aggressions through poems,
essays, scripts and images. Rankine documents the racist encounters through the second person point
of view for the reader to feel and understand the effects racism has on the body and mind. This paper
will examine hypervisibility and invisibility of the black body embedded in the novel because of
decades of racism. Rankine emphasizes the sensory emotions and feelings of the black body as a
response to America s reluctance to recognize and empathize with black men and women. Citizen s
opening poem sets the tone for reflection. She writes when you are alone and too tired even to turn on
any devices, you let yourself linger a past stacked among your pillows, a self awareness of the events
that will arise in the rest of the text (Rankine 5). Throughout the text, the subject in each testimony
manifests a sense of consciousness towards invisibility of his or her body. In an example of
microaggression, the black woman details an incident in a which a white girl cheats off her test and
takes the initiative in thanking [the woman] for letting her cheat and feels better cheating from an
almost white person (Rankine 5). She erases the blackness of the woman to justify her actions, a
common endeavor in white America s exploitation of the black body. This endeavor is evident of the

A kite is a victim Essay
The Poem titled A Kite is a victim written by Leonard Cohen contains multiple tropes. Through my
own analysis I propose that the author s central focus concerns life. Cohen discusses the relationships
and accomplishes that we make throughout our lifetimes. In my opinion, the kite is a metaphor for the
essence of life and living. Each of the four stanzas in the poem begins with a trope. In every case the
tenor is the kite. These tropes will be analyzed with regard to the central theme of the poem.
The first tenor that I will discuss can be found in the first line of the first stanza. Cohen writes:
A kite is a victim you are sure of .
This is personification. Leonard Cohen uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A desperate trained falcon would be a strong bird whose desperation has altered his independence. The
kite or one s livelihood is like a desperate trained falcon in that life involves freedom and great
strength but each individual must be trained as they conform to society s expectations. .
...In the high sweet air, and you can always haul it down...
It is always yours to control and possess.
In the last trope in the first stanza is located in the ninth line:
to tame it in your drawer.
This line represents a metaphor. The tenor is the taming of the falcon and the vehicle is the drawer. In
my interpretation I believe that the drawer represents the confines of society. You cannot actually tame
a falcon in a drawer but if the author is referring to the falcon as a person s independence and freedom
in life then the drawer represents the natural conformity within society.
A kite is a fish you have already caught .
This is a metaphor. Once again he makes an interesting comparison. The kite, being the central subject
is the tenor of the trope and the fish already caught is the vehicle. In this case the kite is continuing to
represent life. Cohen describes it as being something you already have, something you can never
replace. There will never be another one coming along so you must take advantage of the one that you
have been given. Cohen continues this stanza with positive advice.

Anthropogenic Sound Lab
The purpose of the experiment was to measure the effects of water on sound, as the density of the
water is gradually increased by adding salt to the water. The experiment is based on the question: How
is sound effected by traveling through water of various densities? The variables that were tested for
were velocity, frequency, wavelength, period and amplitude of the sound. The group wanted to
analyze several characteristics of sound to be able to observe multiple patterns that sound follows
while it moves through water of increasing density. We hypothesized that the velocity of sound would
increase as density was increased because we knew the velocity of sound through solids is faster than
through liquids and solids are denser than liquids. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Iran Political Dynamic Essay
The Iranian Political Dynamic
One of the misconceptions of modernization was that societies would secularize as they modernized.
This formed the tenets of post war modernization theories. Notably, the end of world war two was
characterized by the decline of religious faiths and secularization of societies, especially in Britain and
America. This paradigm fitted the idea of development and breaking free from the yoke of poverty,
hunger, diseases and other social problems. As such, it was believed that progress would only be
achieved at the expense of religion. However, over the past decades, countries such as the Islamic
Republic of Iran have evolved into industrialized economies with religion at the heart of their growth .
It has, therefore, become a point of studies on religious fundamentalism.
The Iranian revolution of 1978 to 1980 changed Iran s political system. The Iranian political system is
based on an agglomeration of politics and religion. The head of this unique political system is the
supreme religious leader: the Ayatollah. Notably, the Shite clergy rule over Iran and as such, it
embodies the absolute supremacy of Islam. The political system is also a fusion of theocracy and
democracy. On one end, it limits pluralism and on the other it allows election of leaders through a
public general election. The constitution of Iran allows popular sovereignty and blend it with the rule
of jurisconsults. In this respect, institutions are governed by the clergy, while

A Worldview Is A Person s Framework Of Ideas Essay
A worldview is a person s framework of ideas that is used to interpret their view of reality. A
worldview is a mental construction that is constantly being built by factors like culture, religion,
language, beliefs, personal experiences, the historical context in which they exist in and their
interaction with society. It is important to note that humanity does not hold the same worldview
because it is a personal view of the world that only exists in the mind. This ultimately affects how one
behaves, lives and interacts with society. Pacific Islanders for instance, living in the Pacific and in the
diaspora, have continued to encounter contested boundaries because of the difference in worldviews.
A contested boundary is defined as the art of juggling two aspects of life. I will discuss the notion of
contested boundaries of spirituality, cultural values and traditional versus contemporary. Struggling to
balance these aspects can lead to depression, an identity crisis and even suicide, and I will be
acknowledging how the different obligations, of certain Pacific Islanders, can be in conflict with each
other and how these individuals or groups are expected to fulfill their obligatory duties, yet struggle
just to balance and maintain them. Pacific Islanders accumulate many cultural values since the
moment they are born. These cultural qualities incorporate admiration, versatility, solidarity and so on
and it is these qualities of those of Pacific Island legacy which adds to

The World Is Becoming A Dangerous Place
The world is becoming a dangerous place even, when you can not see it in the air unless you live in a
hometown full of toxic chemicals being produced by factories. Christiana Figueres has dedicated her
life to reducing the production of greenhouse gases. Climate change is happening everyday in front of
our eyes, but you can not see it or realize it. Christiana Figueres, the women faced with saving the
world from climate change, has made the greatest impact on climate change issues since the 2009
Copenhagen Climate Change Summit. When Christiana Figueres was a little girl growing up in Costa
Rica, she fell in love with the environment. She was raised in a very political family. Her father, Jose
Figueres Ferrer, served 3 terms as president of Costa Rica. During his terms, he founded the modern
Costa Rican democracy and removed the nation s standing army. Christiana s mother, Karen Olsen
Beck, served in the Costa Rican congress and was an ambassador to Israel. Growing up in a political
family had an impact on what the four children did with their future. All four children went into some
type of political position. Jose Maria Figueres, her older brother, served as president of Costa Rica in

Twilight Moms, By Stephenie Meyer s Twilight Books And...
Living in the United States in 2016, one is familiar with the fandom spurred from Stephenie Meyer s
Twilight books and the subsequent Twilight movies. Twilight Moms, a controversial sector of the
fandom composed of adult female fans, have garnered attention in recent years. One of the most well
known photographs of Twilight Moms captures the fans emotions at a 2009 Twilight Event (Buckner).
However, what strikes viewers most is not the emotions of the women, but rather their age; the
subjects of the image are not tweens and teens, but adult women. The visual rhetoric argues that
Twilight s appeal is not exclusive to young adults; it also encompasses older women. The media
claims that Twilight Moms are anti feminist women who refuse to grow up. However, the media s
biased accusations are simply not true. In all reality, Twilight Moms are a group of women that relate
to Twilight s protagonist and seek bonding experiences with their daughters as well as an escape from
the monotony of everyday life. So what exactly constitutes a Twilight Mom? The term Twilight Moms
was first coined in December of 2007 when Lisa Hansen launched the Twilight Moms MySpace page
(Brodesser akner). According to Hansen, she originally created Twilight Moms for married women
and mothers; however, that definition has since changed (Hare). Today, Twilight Moms is a more
inclusive group consisting of any female fan of Twilight beyond her teen years. Because Twilight

1943 Personal Narrative
Times like the year 1943, were never talked about in my family. 1943 was 60 years before I was born,
yet if you bring up that time, you would be hushed by your mother and told to be quiet. But why?
Nobody in the family even knew why. Well, except my great grandfather, Joseph G. Koch. He lived it.
Saw it. Smelled it. The odor of burned flesh was strong, he said. 2008 was the year when everything
changed in the family. The code was cracked. The silence was broken. The secret was out. That was
the year my twit headed uncle put himself to good use, and asked my Great Grandfather about the
importance of 1943 and what it meant to him. This was the first time anything was talked about. The
hushes and whispers finally dissipated. Grandpa was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He never forgot the sights, sounds and smells of the hospital during that time. Those dates were the
dates of the infamous Battle of the Bulge! During that particular battle many of the soldiers were
wounded and killed while in tanks. Whenever an tank was bombed, the soldiers inside were literally
cooked alive. The tanks being completely metal, transferred the heat of the bombs to the vulnerable
soldiers. The loss of lives was devastating! The injuries were horrific.
During this time, as wounded and deceased soldiers arrived at the hospital in England, Joe was forever
affected by what he saw, smelled, and heard. The deceased were charred lumps. The smell of burned
flesh filled the nostrils of the medical staff. The painful wailing of the injured, suffering from horrific
burns, was heart wrenching. Joe had never seen such devastation and destruction before.
As Joe talked about working in the hospital, he never took his eyes off of his grandson, who was
asking the questions, and pleading for the answers. His voice was always firm and steady, until he
spoke about the victims of the Battle of the Bulge. Then Joe s eyes teared up, and his steady voice
began to waver. Just talking to Joe, you could almost hear, see and smell what he

Thistle Sifter Case Study
Thistle sifter. I am a thistle sifter. I have a sieve of sifted thistles and a sieve of unsifted thistles.
Because I am a thistle sifter. This was one of many pivotal drills used in the rehabilitation of king
Georges stammer, a drill we commonly know as a tongue twister. Lionel incorporates this tactic in
hopes that it relaxes Albert s jaw muscles and strengthens his tongue. Conversely, experts Albert
attended earlier sought to strengthen the tongue with extremely unorthodox methods. One doctor
made him put 7 tiny metal balls in his mouth while he spoke, in hopes that the weight would
strengthen his mouth. Experts believe, tongue twisters refine enunciation skills and thus potentially
aide someone who stammers. Lionel also stressed the need to strengthen the diaphragm, a muscle
integral to lung support and facilitating air flow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of relaxation seems to be present in both methods, however achieving this state of comfort is
where the routines differ. Singing and speaking with music were also aspects of Lionels therapy that
played a major role. It was through both of these activities that Albert gained confidence in his
speaking abilities, because he was able to hear himself talk without a stammer. The use of the music
was also the defining tool that made Albert agree to undergo Lionels rehabilitation process. Lionel
stress s that physical excises and tricks are important, but that they will only deal with the surface of
the problem. He urges Albert to be open with him and that he answer specific questions about his past,
that may help uncover mental trauma. It is a process that at first Albert is reluctant to attempt, however

Catholicism In America
The United States of America is known for having a history consisting of intolerance towards ideals
and opinions. However, America is showing a turn towards liberalism. America has shown a turn in
religion, immigration, and race. America has become more liberal through religion as well. Although
many believe that people came to America in seeking refuge from religious discrimination, there was
actually quite the opposite. In 1732, the founders of the Georgia colony drew up a charter that
specifically banned Catholicism. Many efforts in the past have been made to restrict Catholicism, yet
today Catholicism is the largest religion in the United States, taking up 22% of the U.S. population.

Nursing Judgement
Wisdom is the interpretation and application of gained knowledge, knowledge is obtained through
data and information. Data information knowledge wisdom create the D I K W paradigm that was
discussed this week. Wisdom is very similar to nursing judgement, it appears after the data and
information has been collected, analyzing it with knowledge. Interpreting that knowledge and
implementing it into practice is when nursing judgement is used, similarly the same with wisdom.
Ronquillo, Currie Rodney (2016) state that all knowledge and wisdom ultimately stem from objective,
value free, and pure data. (Ronquillo, Currie, Rodney, 2016, p. E9) Van Graan and Williams (2017)
describe nursing judgment as following a process of observation, reflection, and analysis, weighing
evidence, using intuition, and recognizing patterns to make clinical decisions. (Van Graan Williams,

John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran...
John Millington Synge s Romantic Vision of the Aran Islands When John Millington Synge made his
way to the western most islands of Ireland he was in search of inspiration for his writing. The fruit of
his journey was the fame winning book entitled The Aran Islands . Synge had many purposes for this
book, but one of the most compelling was his desire to write an anthropologically geared account of
the people and lifestyle of what many believed to be the last bastion of true Irishness. However, Synge
s anthropological work could not avoid the strong Romantic tendencies that influenced his writing. In
my opinion it is Synge s Romanticism that makes his account more believable. ... Show more content

In Part One of the book he begins by relating the image of the Aranmor countryside as he walks
through it for the first time. He states:
I was wandering out along the one good roadway of the island, looking over low walls on either side
into small flat fields of naked rock. I have seen nothing so desolate. Grey floods of water were
sweeping everywhere upon the limestone, making at times a wild torrent of the road... Whenever the
cloud lifted I could see the edge of the sea below me on the right, and the naked ridge of the island
above me on the other side... (Synge 2)
The most vivid aspect of this passage is the diction, which Synge uses to describe the island s
environment. More than once Synge uses the word naked to refer to the rock. He also builds further
that image by calling the land desolate and wild . Synge also makes an important play of the colors of
the Aran Islands. He uses the images of grey and black quite often throughout the book. At one point
he states that everywhere he turns he finds, ...the same grey obsession twining and wreathing itself
among the narrow fields... (Synge 46). By describing the island thus he helps the reader build the
image of the Aran Islands as something quite distinct from the lushness of the Irish mainland. The
contrast between the environment of the islands and the mainland is important for Synge to establish,

Theories Of Knowledge And Psychological Applications Essay
Theories of Knowledge and Psychological Applications
How individuals are able to obtain knowledge is something that psychologists have studied for a
number of years. The ability to store and retrieve knowledge provides individuals with the propensity
to form logical thought, express emotions and internalize the world around them. In order for a
psychologist to understand the theories of knowledge it is necessary to investigate the aspects of the
theories. In this paper we examine the history , the basic construct, the similarities of the theories and
how those theories relate to psychological therapies. History of the theories

Many new theorists would enter the field of neural network models, but it was the work of Rumelhart,
Hinton, and McClelland that would simplify the way we would view such models (Arbib, 1995). It
was in 1986 that Rumelhart, Hinton, and McClelland developed their network model. It was and still
is regarded as one of the most notable network theories. This is true because they structured their
theory in a clear, concise, and intelligible manner (Martindale ,1991).
Neural network models have evolved during the past sixty years. The initial theories were extremely
difficult to comprehend and they were not interchangeable with a broad range of topics. Today s
theories are simpler to understand because they are less complex. The theories are capable of
encompassing numerous topics.
The dual coding approach is one that believes that knowledge is a series of complex associative
networks. Within these networks we find imaginal and verbal representations. These verbal and
nonverbal representations are means that facilitate the retrieval and storage of knowledge (Paivio,
1986).
The individual who was at the fore front of the development of the dual coding theory was Allan
Paivio. He did research in the area of verbal and nonverbal representations during the 1960 s.

Who Was Left Unanswered In Apollo 13
Apollo 13 is a movie where many questions were left unanswered. That could possibly be that the
director wanted us to know what the astronauts knew to to make it more realistic. This movie uses
astronomy and problem solving to solve many of these unanswered questions. In this essay I will be
discussing the following issues; How the astronauts found out about the explosion, some of the
problems that came with the explosion, whether it is worth the risk to send humans into space, and
what knowledge we have gained by going into space. When Jack Swaggert went to stir the oxygen
tanks, a malfunction occurred and there was an unknown explosion on one of the tanks. They were

The lack of power was from the extensive power use during the period after the explosion and the
electrical problem in the wiring. They were able to deal with this by shutting down many systems to
get the amperage lower that the rate they are getting from the batteries. The lack of heat came from
this issue as well. They were forced to shut down the heaters when they lost lots of electrical and fuel
power. This caused great discomfort for the astronauts and it could have impacted some of the
equipment on board. The explosion also caused a guidance issue due to the thrust coming from the
explosion, the loss of some systems dealing with guidance, and the loss of aerodynamics.
Aerodynamics were lost by losing an entire panel and potentially having parts of the spacecraft
protruding into space. This caused a very high use of fuel to navigate, especially when done on
manual calculations. In any way you look at it, the explosion was definitely the source of all problems

George Whitefield And Jonathan Edwards And The Second...
The First Great Awakening (c. 1735 1743) was the development of a religious revival which was
heavily influenced by Calvinist ideals. It was centered around the American Revolution which was
primary focused around the thirteen colonies in which an evangelical Protestant revivalist wave took
the colonies by hold. With this, preachers like George Whitefield, an itinerant preacher, and Jonathan
Edwards, father of the Great Awakening, began to preach to large bodies of people; spreading their
beliefs in emotional ways that touched upon their emotions. George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards,
both well known circuit riders, embedded fear in people by claiming God had already chosen who is
saved by his salvation. The Second Great Awakening (c.1795 1830) was experienced across the
country due to the advancement in the nation s economic growth. Preachers often spoke emotionally
about their message to increase the reaction in people. Preaches proclaimed that the power of eternal
salvation is in the hands of the person to decided to be saved and avoid eternal damnation. This ideals
were closely influenced by Arminianism which sinfulness is a choice rather than a destiny, appealing
to more people because of its optimistic outlook. The Second Great Awakening sought out the
downfall of the old Calvinist, changing the harsh ideals into something the people reacted positively
to. Preachers would promote new social reforms that included: women s movement, abolishment of
slaves, and etc. Revivalist during the Second Great Awakening focused on a conversion experience
within the heart of the listener. People gathered in camp meetings, large social gathering were priest

style of talking. Ultimately, preachers proclaimed salvation to be a choice.
The preaches would publicly advocate, during the First Great Awakening, was that God has already
decided who will live in eternal salvation (heaven). Jonathan Edwards was a huge influence in the new
religious revival (The Great Awakening) by becoming a founding and central figure. He believed that

Pro Life v. Pro Choice
The word abortion can be defined as a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12
weeks of gestation. The debate on abortion has been widely contemplated for centuries. Mainly
focusing on whether or not it is morally acceptable for a woman to decide if she can terminate the
pregnancy. The act of abortion only justifies that a woman should have the right to exercise her moral
ethics with her best interest in mind. One of the most important cases that caught the eyes of many
American people was Roe v. Wade. This particular case set the stage for women with their fight for
feminism and their legal rights about being able to have options once they realize that they are
pregnant, as well as having their personal privacy. The other aspect of this controversial topic is if
someone is pro life or pro choice. Typically when a woman decides to proceed with the abortion, they
progress with what they believe is the best intention for the child and for themselves. Both sides have
very legitimate reasons as to why one could be better than the other, but in the end, it is up to the
woman in hopes that she does what is in the best interest of herself, as well as the child she is carrying.

Explain The Four Criteria Of Dissimilarity
Question #2 List and describe the four criteria of authenticity according to the textbook.
The historical Jesus Research according to the textbook shows four criteria of Authenticity and they
are the following listed below: (Page 152)
The Criterion of Multiple Attestation: This criterion simply states that the material about Jesus is
probably independent ancient sources.
The Criterion of Palestinian Environment: In this criterion a section of material in the Gospels is
probably authentic if it appears to be fairly literal translation Semitic (Hebrew or Aramaic) idiom into
Greek.
The Criterion of Dissimilarity: This talks about the Material in the Gospel is authentic if the sayings or
deeds of Jesus recorded in the account are dissimilar to those expected from the Judaism of His day or
from the practices and theology of the early church.
The Criterion of Coherence: In this we find the material is likely early and authentic if it is consistent
with material judged to be authentic based on other criteria.
How are these criteria used in studies of the Gospel?
Because the study of the Gospel during much of the twentieth century was dominated by an approach
called criticism, Andrea J. Kostenberger ET all said, what is more, these criteria of authenticity
establish the historical reliability of the Gospels accounts of Jesus supernatural activity including
exorcisms, miracles, and His resurrection. Thus these criteria demand a fresh appraisal of the

The first three paragraphs of the tale focus largely on the setting because these setting symbolize the
key concept of the story. Settings strengthen the theme and the characters by using the metaphors of
darkness and light. The experiences of the boy in this story portrays how people often expect more
than the real world can provide and then feel they disappointed and disillusioned.
The author refers to the obscure and dark images to make the reality of boy living in the dreary town

about the boy s rather delayed and troubled visit to that place. He then finds it as a drab market or

bazaar seems charmless to the boy and he became severely disappointed. At the end of the story, when
the boy was standing all alone in the dark places, sees himself in the mockery of all his stupidity. It is

Citizen Kane vs. the Bicycle Thief
Categorize into classical and modern groups, film have been analyzed for their themes and motifs. As
a master of techniques, Citizen Kane falls into the classical category and demonstrating the Italian
Neorealism, The Bicycle Thief fits the modern class. Both films use photography, mise en scene,
editing, movement, and story similarly and differently to emphasize their personal themes. In both
films, photography played a huge role to depict a theme. The use of camera angles, specific shots, and
lighting in Citizen Kane, help support the idea of supremacy. In the political campaign scene, there is
a long shot establishing Kane s surroundings, which is overpowered by a monstrous poster of his face.

Also adding to the realistic look, De Sica shot the film in Rome, with its architecture highly visible in

Ambrosini 3 frame; because of this the viewer is easily submerged into the environment and
surroundings of the film for an understanding of the problems. Both films use an asymmetrical,
unbalanced composition. In Citizen Kane to show the unorganized, limitless mentality of Kane
reflected in his belongings, and in The Bicycle Thief, to depict the amount of people striving to
survive after a cultural, social, political and economic drainage. Through the editing and story, both
films deliver a theme. In Citizen Kane, editing is used to show marriage over time. Since the editing is
based on the character that is being interviewed, the story, in flashbacks, jumps from days, to months,
to years creating a formalistic narrative. In the scene where Kane sits with his wife to eat, he proposes
his love and care towards her. The next shot is months later, and he speaks less to her and becomes
more distant. After a few years (Kane becomes old), they sit at opposite sides of the table and don t
share a word. This editing supports the fact that overtime marriage changes in a negative way and
allows the viewer to clearly see this theory. Although is years later, the shots connect because the
event is happening at the same place, with the same people, doing the same thing, and therefore
creates continuity. On the other hand,

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Mental Illnesses Mental and physical illnesses are both very serious, but also very different. Mental illnesses are often overlooked, as well as overshadowed by physical illnesses. Mental and physical illnesses, while vastly different, do have similarities. Both can require intense treatment, and both can get overlooked. The difference is that mental illnesses are more difficult to diagnose. Say if you break your arm, you know the bone is broken or fractured. Nobody could argue that. Where if you are always sad and melancholy, it s just assumed you are having a bad day, or blamed on mood swings. Physical illnesses are often caused by something specific, whether if it runs in your family, you caught it from somebody else, or any other reason, there is almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ableism is described as discrimination in favor of able bodied people. It applies to physical as well as mental illnesses. It is a problem that most people are not aware of, and also accidentally a part of it. Using terms such as stupid, retarded, crazy, freak, lame, as well as many others. To most people they are viewed as innocent terms, not as ableist slurs. The best comparison that could be made is that it s the same situation as using racial slurs. Racial slurs are more well known and fought against compared to ableist slurs. Ableism is a very real problem, often pushed aside as not a real problem . Most problems dealing with mental illnesses are overlooked, including ableism. When someone is corrected on using an ableism, most claim it is because of how they were raised or because they don t find it offensive . • 3. Interesting Events In The 1980 s The 1980 s were a very fascinating decade that had a lot going on. They had a lot of important events happen, many intriguing people, astonishing technological and medical advances and some interesting fashions and fads. A lot of events happened in the 1980 s, but two of the most interesting events were the 1989 U.S. invasion of Panama and the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. The invasion of Panama started in December 1989. The United States invaded Panama at that time to charge the Panamanian leader, Manuel Noriega, with drug trafficking offenses. U.S. President Ronald Reagan deployed 24,000 Americans into Panama. All of the fighting ended on January 31, 1990 with America on the winning side. America captured Noriega and put him on trial in the U.S. He was convicted of his crimes and sent to prison. Another interesting yet tragic event that happened in ... Sara Pendergast, author of the book U.X.L American Decades 1980 1989, writes, Ronald Reagan captivated millions of Americans with the ability to communicate the need for values such as patriotism, religion, hard work, and self reliance. Ronald Reagan had many great accomplishments while he was president, but the biggest one was ending the Cold War with the Soviet Union.Another compelling person from the 1980 s was Bill Cosby, an actor and comedian. He helped break down racial barriers on T.V. He is best remembered for his famous sitcom The Cosby Show , which won numerous Emmy awards and countless other awards. The span of middle adulthood is from forty to sixty years of age, it can be defined as chronologically, contextually, or biologically. Most middle age people are in good physical, cognitive, and emotional condition. Staying healthy is very important or middle age adults. Eating healthy is also a very important factor. I think vitamins are good for the body; they are great supplements that make up for all the protein the body is not receiving. As the body age blood pressure starts to rise and chances are increased for having a stroke or a heart attack. Eating fruits and vegetables helps decrease these chances. • 5. Chronological Age And Functional Age Late adulthood is portrayed in prints, TV and other popular media from various perspectives. In general, they are depicted as wise, stubborn, love to give advice, have difficulty performing regular physical activities, some are even in wheelchairs or using assisted canes, and have lots of stories to tell. It s the period of time when people are supposed to become slower, to get more obsessive, needy, and look confused most of the time. However, this period has interesting facts to educate each and every one of us. We are all going to get there, one way or another. Chronological age vs functional age Everyone grows and ages differently. That is why chronological age is a flawed tool to use to check a person s functional age. There is a vast variation between chronological age and functional age. Chronological age is essentially a person s biological age, while functional age is used to dictate the actual competence and performance of an individual . For example, a 70 year old can actually appear younger than a 55 year old (Berk 443). Life Expectancy Chronological age doesn t show an accurate functional age because people age at different rates. The average life expectancy is the number of years that a person can expect to live based on his birth year and the region he lives in. Many teenagers and children go through domestic violence, bullying, depression, anxiety and more. What they go through affects their overall self concept when it comes to viewing themselves in a negative or positive way. I have lived through having a low self concept of myself during my childhood because I dealt with a lot of bullying in my youth years. I have a great level of confidence in myself now because I learned that your views of yourself are key in changing your self concept. In this article Horowitz talks about how tourism effects Venice, and how many of its inhabitants view it. For many, the tourists brought by cruise ships are unwelcomed, but the revenue the tourists bring is needed by the city. The large tourist traffic often obstructs the regular activity of Venice which is an essential part of its identity. The enormous cruise ships, which are often big enough to eclipse structures such as St. Mark s Square, are also another major problem that the Venetians have with the amount of tourism their home receives. Hypervisibility And Invisibility Of The Black Body Essay Hypervisibility and Invisibility of the Black Body in Citizen Citizen, written by Claudia Rankine in 2014, narrates testimonies of systematic racism and every day micro aggressions through poems, essays, scripts and images. Rankine documents the racist encounters through the second person point of view for the reader to feel and understand the effects racism has on the body and mind. This paper will examine hypervisibility and invisibility of the black body embedded in the novel because of decades of racism. Rankine emphasizes the sensory emotions and feelings of the black body as a response to America s reluctance to recognize and empathize with black men and women. Citizen s opening poem sets the tone for reflection. She writes when you are alone and too tired even to turn on any devices, you let yourself linger a past stacked among your pillows, a self awareness of the events that will arise in the rest of the text (Rankine 5). Throughout the text, the subject in each testimony manifests a sense of consciousness towards invisibility of his or her body. In an example of microaggression, the black woman details an incident in a which a white girl cheats off her test and takes the initiative in thanking [the woman] for letting her cheat and feels better cheating from an almost white person (Rankine 5). Cohen discusses the relationships and accomplishes that we make throughout our lifetimes. In my opinion, the kite is a metaphor for the essence of life and living. Each of the four stanzas in the poem begins with a trope. In every case the tenor is the kite. These tropes will be analyzed with regard to the central theme of the poem. The first tenor that I will discuss can be found in the first line of the first stanza. Cohen writes: A kite is a victim you are sure of . This is personification. Leonard Cohen uses ... The group wanted to analyze several characteristics of sound to be able to observe multiple patterns that sound follows while it moves through water of increasing density. • 18. Iran Political Dynamic Essay The Iranian Political Dynamic One of the misconceptions of modernization was that societies would secularize as they modernized. This formed the tenets of post war modernization theories. Notably, the end of world war two was characterized by the decline of religious faiths and secularization of societies, especially in Britain and America. This paradigm fitted the idea of development and breaking free from the yoke of poverty, hunger, diseases and other social problems. As such, it was believed that progress would only be achieved at the expense of religion. However, over the past decades, countries such as the Islamic Republic of Iran have evolved into industrialized economies with religion at the heart of their growth . It has, therefore, become a point of studies on religious fundamentalism. The Iranian revolution of 1978 to 1980 changed Iran s political system. A worldview is a mental construction that is constantly being built by factors like culture, religion, language, beliefs, personal experiences, the historical context in which they exist in and their interaction with society. It is important to note that humanity does not hold the same worldview because it is a personal view of the world that only exists in the mind. This ultimately affects how one behaves, lives and interacts with society. Pacific Islanders for instance, living in the Pacific and in the diaspora, have continued to encounter contested boundaries because of the difference in worldviews. A contested boundary is defined as the art of juggling two aspects of life. I will discuss the notion of contested boundaries of spirituality, cultural values and traditional versus contemporary. Struggling to balance these aspects can lead to depression, an identity crisis and even suicide, and I will be acknowledging how the different obligations, of certain Pacific Islanders, can be in conflict with each other and how these individuals or groups are expected to fulfill their obligatory duties, yet struggle just to balance and maintain them. • 30. Who Was Left Unanswered In Apollo 13 Apollo 13 is a movie where many questions were left unanswered. That could possibly be that the director wanted us to know what the astronauts knew to to make it more realistic. This movie uses astronomy and problem solving to solve many of these unanswered questions. In this essay I will be discussing the following issues; How the astronauts found out about the explosion, some of the problems that came with the explosion, whether it is worth the risk to send humans into space, and what knowledge we have gained by going into space. When Jack Swaggert went to stir the oxygen tanks, a malfunction occurred and there was an unknown explosion on one of the tanks. They were able to figure out that there was a malfunction by watching the oxygen tank levels and watch them drop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were able to deal with this by shutting down many systems to get the amperage lower that the rate they are getting from the batteries. The lack of heat came from this issue as well. They were forced to shut down the heaters when they lost lots of electrical and fuel power. This caused great discomfort for the astronauts and it could have impacted some of the equipment on board. The explosion also caused a guidance issue due to the thrust coming from the explosion, the loss of some systems dealing with guidance, and the loss of aerodynamics. Aerodynamics were lost by losing an entire panel and potentially having parts of the spacecraft protruding into space. This caused a very high use of fuel to navigate, especially when done on manual calculations. In any way you look at it, the explosion was definitely the source of all problems on this ... Mainly focusing on whether or not it is morally acceptable for a woman to decide if she can terminate the pregnancy. The act of abortion only justifies that a woman should have the right to exercise her moral ethics with her best interest in mind. One of the most important cases that caught the eyes of many American people was Roe v. Wade. This particular case set the stage for women with their fight for feminism and their legal rights about being able to have options once they realize that they are pregnant, as well as having their personal privacy. As a master of techniques, Citizen Kane falls into the classical category and demonstrating the Italian Neorealism, The Bicycle Thief fits the modern class. Both films use photography, mise en scene, editing, movement, and story similarly and differently to emphasize their personal themes. In both films, photography played a huge role to depict a theme. The use of camera angles, specific shots, and lighting in Citizen Kane, help support the idea of supremacy. Also adding to the realistic look, De Sica shot the film in Rome, with its architecture highly visible in the Ambrosini 3 frame; because of this the viewer is easily submerged into the environment and surroundings of the film for an understanding of the problems. Both films use an asymmetrical, unbalanced composition. In Citizen Kane to show the unorganized, limitless mentality of Kane reflected in his belongings, and in The Bicycle Thief, to depict the amount of people striving to survive after a cultural, social, political and economic drainage. Through the editing and story, both films deliver a theme. In Citizen Kane, editing is used to show marriage over time. Since the editing is based on the character that is being interviewed, the story, in flashbacks, jumps from days, to months, to years creating a formalistic narrative. In the scene where Kane sits with his wife to eat, he proposes his love and care towards her. The next shot is months later, and he speaks less to her and becomes more distant. After a few years (Kane becomes old), they sit at opposite sides of the table and don t share a word. This editing supports the fact that overtime marriage changes in a negative way and allows the viewer to clearly see this theory. Although is years later, the shots connect because the event is happening at the same place, with the same people, doing the same thing, and therefore creates continuity. On the other hand, ...
