Natural Disasters In Louisiana
The damage done by the recent floods in Louisiana has completely adulterated the lives and homes
of the residents.
To prepare for any natural disaster coming to your area one must use ambidextrous or versatile
plans to evacuate.
Not immediately coming to rescue a person trapped under a building after an earthquake will only
augment their chances of death.
The survivors of any natural disaster will be bereft of their livelihood and basic necessities.
The police may deploy squadrons of policemen to help aid recovery and protection efforts after a
natural disaster.
If you talk to anyone who has experienced and survived a natural disaster, they will probably talk
about their experiences in a dour tone.
Humanity itself can show great fortitude

The Potential for a Severe Food Shortage in the United States
A severe shortage of food in the United States could occur from many causes. Farms could stop
growing crops and breeding animals. Some sort of bacteria could sweep through the country
killing different food plants. The more important part of the shortage of food however would not
be the causes, but the effects. The stance of the country s economy, the well being of middle and
lower class families, and the quality of stores that used to sell the products would all decline greatly
if an event as severe as an extreme shortage of foodwere to occur. General stores generate a large
profit from the sale of food. Some stores like Whole Foods and King Soopers do not sell much
besides food products. If there were to be a severe shortage of food, stores like Whole Foods,
Walmart, Costco, and King Soopers would take a severe hit in terms of income and the ability
to compete with other stores. Places like these would not be able to keep up financially if there
were a lack of people buying their food products. There are other non food products that these
stores may sell, but these other products would not be able to sell due to the fact that people
would be focusing more on ways to get food rather than buying a new T.V. or a new pair of shoes.
Families in cities rely on general stores and health food stores to obtain food products. A severe
shortage of food throughout the country would raise potentially difficult questions for families.
Where are they going to get food now that stores

A History Of Christmas In The 19th Century
The History of Christmas in America
In the first half of the 19th century, Christmas was a very different kind of holiday than it is today.
People did not have a set way of celebrating. Christmas was not even an official holiday yet.
So, communities around the country honored the day in different ways. Some observed Christmas
as an important Christian religious day, honoring the birth of Jesus. Others celebrated the day with
parties, music, drinking and eating. And, some communities did not celebrate the day at all.
But, it was during the early 1800s that Americans began to reinvent the holiday. They started
combining ancient Christmas traditions with modern American influences. Shirley Griffith and
Steve Ember tell the story.
In 1819, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Louisiana was the first state to make the move in 1837. By 1860, 14 other states had followed. It
was not until 1870 that President Ulysses Grant made Christmas a federal holiday.
Americans already knew old Christmas songs that came from England and other areas of Europe.
But many new American Christmas songs started to become popular. For example, in 1849, a
religious leader from Massachusetts wrote the words to It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. The
song Jingle Bells appeared seven years later. And, a year later, a religious leader in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania wrote the song We Three Kings of Orient Are.
And of course, no discussion of Christmas would be complete without talking about of one of the
holiday s most famous representations: Santa Claus.
This character is based on the story of Saint Nicholas, a Christian holy person believed to have
lived in the third century. Saint Nicholas became known as a protector of children. In his role as a
Christmas hero, different cultures have given him different names. These include Sinterklaas, Kris
Kringle and Father Christmas. But for most Americans his most popular name would become Santa

Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics , by Steve Wilson.
Lessons to Live By In his book, Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, author Steve Wilkens discusses nine
ethical views that are prevalent in cultures today. Although the systems are sometimes vague, and
his discussions, a bit biased, I find myself fortunate because I seem to agree with most of his
opinions that he lets slip. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It
talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures
worldwide. The author mentions that often customs that are unquestioningly accepted in one part
of the world are considered abhorrent in another, for example: human sacrifice. Cultural Relativism
claims that there are no absolute standards for moral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No crime would be anyone s fault. People would not take responsibility for their actions, and this
world in fact, not be ethical at all. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it
does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next
view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems
more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To
me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is
that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does
choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved
equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his
creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it
says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our
actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we
chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so
how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good. Also, according to Utilitarianism,
we must face the problems concerning the extent ( greatest number ) of actions. We would then
have to face who would be

Research Paper On Genital Herpes
Genital herpes is a virus that can be transmitted through unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex.
Often, the virus is dormant and the carrier is unaware of the chronic disease they hold. There are
two types of herpes, HSV 1 and HSV 2. There are only a few symptoms for this virus. They may
be blisters on the genital areas, and sores around the outside of the mouth. People that do show
symptoms will show within four to seven days after the infection has already entered their body.
These symptoms may last as long as twenty days. Initially when someone becomes infected if they
show symptoms the symptoms will occur frequently, and then as time passes will slowly spread
out. Each time gradually getting less severe. Other symptoms may also be vaginal

Colin Powell 18 Lessons In Leadership Summary
General (USA RET) Colin L. Powell, 18 Lessons in Leadership General Powell highlights 18
lessons learned in leadership that are applied to successful companies, and how they are applied
to leadership in his presentation to the Outreach Program, and the Sears Corporate
Headquarters. These approaches can be applied not only in business but life in general. I will
highlight three of the lessons that have impacted my career in the military Lesson 7 Too often
in business as well as the military, If it ain t broke, don t fix it (Powell, C #7). Too often the
command as well as enlisted soldiers will use this analogy to continue to do what they have
always done and fight change. Also this leads to allowing small details to be overlooked because
it s been allowed before, these small details, such as production schedules become larger details.
These small little details will cause larger details to be overlooked in the future. This culture will
foster reactivity instead of promoting proactivity (Powell, C #7). This type of culture is a
struggle for leaders to change in the National Guard because of the hometown mentality, all
though we strive to keep the since of community in our units as leaders we have to be the
supporters of change. Be able to answer the why when it is necessary to move in a different
direction, we have to be able to always look beneath the surface and not take situations at face
value. When we have questions or concerns as long as they are morally and

Love Story Of Robert Capa
A Hungarian war photographer would soon find out that requesting to take pictures of a petite red
haired woman would forever change his life, creating an infinite love story. The photographer,
Robert Capa, soon influenced the beautiful woman, Gerda Taro, into taking pictures with him and
they grew to be inseparable partners. Their love story became well known to future generations of
photographers, but many everyday people are unaware of this legendary tale. The story of Robert
Capaand Gerda Tarohave been included in many songs, books, and articles. The day their
inspiring love story had came to an end was the same day they had been reunited with a new
beginning. One with an eternity together in the afterlife, and an eternity of impacting future
generations to come. The song Taro by Alt. J creates an engulfing image of the day Robert Capa
died by carefully describing the event with impactful hidden meanings and unique language. This
song describes the love story of Robert Capa and Gerda Taro in a very practical way, the ending to
their love story wasn t full of unicorns and rainbows as you would assume to be. Robert Capa
loved photography, especially war photography. His whole life revolved around taking pictures,
even if it meant putting himself in dangerous situations like being on the front lines of war. He
suffered through miserable conditions to show the world what war is really like, and even gave
his life for his profound love of photography. The song Taro by

Entrepreneurship in the Brazilian offshoring industry Essay
Case 1: Entrepreneurship in the Brazilian offshoring industry
Brazil is one of the nations included in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China). In the past, Brazil
s outsourcing industry has been the smallest of the four BRIC nations. This is very surprising due
to the close proximity to the United States and the current trend of near shoring . However, due to
recent governmental backing and inflows of capital Brazil has begun to improve and could possibly
overtake Russia, India and China in the offshoring industry. The most promising sector in Brazil is
their IT sector.

Access to Research Development
One reason for Brazil s success is due to their rapid spending in science and government incentives.
However, concerns over rising inflation and an overheated economy has led Brazil s newly
elected President to implement across the board government spending cuts, totaling close to $30
billion. Resulting from the cut was a $577 million reduction in funding for the Ministry of
Science Technology, which was about 11% of the previous year s budget. This lack of R D
spending could become a weakness for the future of Brazil[4].
In response to the growing concern, Brazil s government established a new panel to study the
future of science in the country. The panel will draw up long‑term plans for sustaining R D
within the country[4].
Technology
In IT technology Brazil is well staffed with its 250,000 IT professionals, 23,000 annual IT
graduates, and infrastructure capable of supporting double digit growth. According to the Brazilian
Association of Information Technology and Communication Companies (BRASSCOM), Brazil s
offshore outsourcing market hit $1.4 billion in 2008, rising 75 percent in a single year. An October,
2009 report from Gartner states that Brazil s economic footprint combined with having the largest
domestic IT consumption in all of Latin America, as well as international recognition as one of the
most promising and rapidly emerging economies, makes it a natural

as it simplistically aligns the executives pay to shareholder value in its simplest sense. I don t
believe that options compensation is the primary driver of behavior when things shift from the

more important. We have created a performance driven culture without the necessary control
framework for people to operate within. One minute you are doing a great job, the next you have
crossed an imaginary line. The frameworks don t do enough to quantify behavior as legal and
illegal leaving inconsistent rules for organizations to operate within. How does Enron compare to

for interpretation.

Irony In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time
Irony Exploration/Reflection Essay I believe that the story Once upon a Time by Nadine
Gordimer shows significant irony. The main type of irony that Gordimer s uses in the story is
situational irony. Situational irony is when the story ends or has a twist that is opposite of what
is expected to happen. Some examples of these ironic elements are that the wall and wire the
little boy s parents installed was to keep him safe, and it ended up being what harmed him the
most. The title of the story is also ironic due to the title being Once upon a Time. As a reader,
one would assume that the story will have a happy ending like tradition children stories. However,
the story ends tragically and kills the most innocent character. Also the little boy is pretending that
he is a prince who is brave enough to cross through the terrible thorns to make it to the castle to
kiss the sleeping beauty back to life. This is ironic because the little boy s actions are contributing
to the traditional fairy tales with happy endings, and him pretending to be a brave prince
contributes to his death. The use of ironysends the main idea of the story to the readers in a more
interesting way. When the child dies, the message being conveyed is a slap in the face. It also
makes the story more suspenseful and shocking to the reader as well as sad. Another story that
withholds significant irony is The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence. Situational irony
is also the main type of irony in this story. One of the ironic elements is that Paul s father and
mother are struggling financially and it should be their burden to take care of the family. Paul
is young and is only expected to go to school and do well. Neither mother or father would ever
consider turning to Paul for financial help. Little do they know that Paul turns to gambling and
earns the money his family could never get even though he is a child. Paul gives this to his
mother secretly for her birthday. Paul even checks on her to see if the money would make her
happy. Ironically she is still not satisfied. This is also confirmed by the house s whispers increase
saying they need money. The gambling eventually sneaks up on Paul, and aids to his death. It is
ironic that Paul s

What Was The Immediate Effects Of The 1848 Revolution In...
Throughout history there has always been revolutions, change, and reforms. In 1832, England
experienced the death of George IV and accession of William IV in 1830 ,that resulted in a general
parliamentary election in which the opposition political party, the Whigs, scored major gains with
their platform calling for parliamentary reform. With the Tory party divided, the king asked the
leader of the Whigs, Earl Grey, to form a government. Immediately, the Whigs introduced a major
reform bill designed to increase the number of voters by 50 percent and to eliminate underpopulated
electoral districts ( rotten boroughs ) and replace them with representatives for previously

The Austrian Empire was vulnerable to revolutionary challenge. The new Austrian Empire was a
collection of subject nationalities (more non Germans than Germans) stirred by acute
nationalism, its government was reactionary, meaning liberal institutions were nonexistent, and
its reliance on serfdom doomed the mass of people to misery. As soon as the news of of the
February days in France reached the borders of the empire, rebellions began. In document 6, it
shows a Presentation of a Bill by a Hungarian Diet to Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria. This
document describes the revolt against freedom and independence that was granted to them. It also
shares how the military risked their lives to suppress a rebellion. Most of the citizens are revolting
and not compromising to their rules, and that then caused violence such as, villages that are burned
down and massacres occurring. The main purpose of this document is to show how the people can
become violent if pushed enough. People in this time turned to violence, because they wanted a
change and still wasn t granted their freedoms. In document 7, Louis Kossuth discusses his Address
to the People of United States, March 1850 . It shows how abominable the government can be
towards the people. He informs people that the government is plotting against them, and that they
are going to have to defend themselves. The complete purpose of this document is inform and

Haitian Voodoo Research Paper
INTRODUCTION
To me, when the word Voodoo is spoken it resonates images in my head of black magic, potions,
and voodoo dolls. Similarly, many of you can relate to having these same, similar thoughts. Thus, in
this paper, I will delve into what Voodoo truly is and discuss some of the important nursing
implications of this particular type of religion. As such, in the following paragraphs, I plan to
discuss the origin of Haitian Voodoo and their views on the teaching and values related to illness,
prolongation of life through extraordinary means, euthanasia, donation of body parts, autopsy,
burial and disposal of the body, funeral rites, and hospice.
ORIGIN OF VOODOO
The origin of voodoo began back in the 16th century and was created by enslaved Africans who
were taken from their homeland in order to be sold into black slavery, in what was formerly know
Santo Domingo in 1647 (Tann, 2012). Not to mention that it was not uncommon for slaves to have
an expected lifespan of a year to two upon arrival to Haiti due to the harsh working conditions they
had to endure (Tann, 2012). Moreover, in the next couple of centuries, the country of Haiti would
face government corruption, revolts, and bloodshed. However, despite these ... Show more content

Thus, when outsiders see these images, they fear this religion. In truth, however, Voodoo has
many Catholicism roots and many of those practices that are said to be Voodoo, are not. For
instance, voodoo dolls are not associated or have ever originated with this practice (Tann, 2012).
In fact, it has ancient Egyptian roots that were then adopted by Greco Roman which then found
its way to medieval and Renaissance magicians. In contrast, to Haitian Voodoo New Orleans
Voodoo and Hoodoo, do use Voodoo dolls in their practice. Occasionally, in Haitian Voodoo, dolls
will be used but it is only used for alters to attract a specific

Christopher Columbus Essay
On October 12, 1492, two worlds unknown to each other met for the first time on a small island
in the Caribbean Sea. While on a voyage for Spain in search of a direct sea route from Europe to
Asia, Christopher Columbus accidentally discovered the Americas. However, in four separate
voyages to the Caribbean from 1492 to 1504, he remained convinced that he had found the lands
that Marco Polo reached in his overland travels to China at the end of the 13th century. To
Columbus it was only a matter of time before a passage was found through the Caribbean islands to
the cities of Asia.

The first European nation to begin actively looking for a sea route to Asia was Portugal. The
Portuguese had already begun exploring Africa in the early 1400s, and in 1415 they invaded
northern Africa and conquered the Muslim community. This gained the Portuguese access to the
African trade, which, until that time, had been dominated by the Muslims. The Portuguese began
exploring the western coast of Africa, hoping to find a route to the riches of Asia by going around
the southern tip of the continent. Other nations, not wanting to be left behind, began sponsoring
voyages of exploration as well.
Columbus s father was Domenico Colombo, a wool weaver who was also involved in local
politics. His mother was Suzanna Fontanarossa, the daughter of a wool weaver. The oldest of five
children was Christopher he had three brothers and one sister. When Columbus sailed the earth
everyone thought that the world was flat and if he sailed to far that he would eventually fall off
the edge of the earth. When Christopher went on his voyage to the Americas when he landed, he
thought he landed on the Indian islands and so that is was we call the Native Americans Indians.
When the Europeans came to the Americas they brought a lot of diseases with them like, measles,
smallpox, and malaria and the flu. Columbus went on many voyages to the Americas and each time
he came back people would be astonished by what he would tell them. Columbus was

Australia s International Obligations Analysis
Australia s international obligations are framed by the United Nations, as this organisation is
paramount to enforcing international law and fundamental human rights. The United Nations (UN)
was founded in 1945, shortly after World War II, by a group of representatives from fifty nations.
Their motive was to establish a stable forum in which international issues could be discussed and
prevent wars between powerful nations. The power and purpose of the UN is bound by its founding
charter, similar to a constitution, containing one hundred and eleven articles which authorize the
rights and obligations of members (United Nations, 2017). All states are of equal sovereignty and
each state in the General Assembly is entitled to one vote regardless... Show more content on

Australia s international obligations extend extra territorially according to these agreements and
Australia is legally responsible for any contravention of obligations, regardless of whether or not an
Australian official was liable. However, the international obligations vary significantly between
Australia, PNG and Nauru, creating much difficulty in terms of effectively implementing these
obligations. For instance, Nauru is not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, nor do they have the
domestic legal structure to implement such obligations, due to the impoverished state of the
country (Dr Hathaway, 2016). PNG faces similar challenges in regards to the socio economic state
of the country and struggles to implement such obligations, despite being a signatory to the Refugee
Convention. Neither of these designated offshore processing states have the legal capacity to
uphold international obligations, thus creating great potential for violations of these obligations
(Archbold, 2015). This impacts the Australian government as it is difficult to regulate activity in
the regional processing centres and if obligations were to be breached, the government would be
responsible regardless of who contravened. The Hon Chris Bowen MP commented on this issue,

Carl Jung a Swiss psychiatrist defines archetypes as being a collectively inherited unconscious
idea, pattern of thought or image universally present in individual psyches (Jung, 1951:147). The
archetype of journey is in particular prominent in Anne Holm s I am David. This will be proven
by referring to David s ambitious journey to find his promise land, David s quest for identity, and
lastly David s search for love.
David, a twelve year old boy has lived his whole life in a concentration camp and when he

The Importance Of Inclusion In Early Childhood Education
The importance of every student being able to get ample opportunity in the classroom is very

The Common Archetypes In Ethan Frome, By Edith Wharton
The well known narrative, Ethan Frome, is often described as similar to many classic fairy tales.
Resembling most fairy tales, not only is the plot of Ethan Frome is kept simple and
straightforward, but the novel also contains a number of common archetypes often found in fairy
tales, such as a wicked witch and princess. The book s plot, however, reflects a close affinity to the
original fairy tale, Snow White. The novel, Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton easily compares to
many classic fairy tales, especially Snow White.
One of the common archetypes found in Snow White, is the evil stepmother/witch. This role fits
the character Zeena. In the original version of Snow White and the novel, Ethan Frome, both Zeena
and the Wicked Queen both fulfill the role of an older ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mattie displays a clear relation between her and the silvery maiden archetype. Not only does her
last name insinuate this, but her personality and appearance as well. Mattie is described in the
novel as forgetful and dreamy as if she were more childish than mature. In Disney s portrayal of
the classic film, Snow White, Snow White let s the disguised witch in not once or twice, but
three times. Each which led to Snow White almost dying, and the third time being fatal. Snow
White s actions in the film lead to the conclusion that she displays many child like characteristics.
Her sense of trust and foolishness lead to her death. Mattie, who is only twenty one, is described
in the narrative as lively and always happy, much like a child. One of the biggest correlations
between Mattie and Snow White is their similarity in appearance. Mattie Silver s black hair, red
cheeks, and white skin complement the appearance of Snow White in both the fairy tale and the
film. The similarities between Mattie and Snow While are visible to the reader through their

Sammy s Characters In A P By John Updike
Morals are standards or beliefs that most people use for guidance in their lives and turn to when
making decisions. A person s character is composed of their set morals, so the actions many people
take are dictated by what they believe in. In the short story A P by John Updike, main character
Sammy finds himself in a situation where his authorityfigure took action against three teenage
girls in a way that Sammy did not believe to be right. This position was especially difficult for
Sammy to be in, due to wanting to express his own beliefs while also knowing he is not in a
place of command to request a change from his boss. While reading A P I was able to relate to
Sammy on a personal level, as I have been in a similar circumstance and felt my boss acted in
ways that went against my beliefs. Sammy and I have both exhibited impulsive acts of defiance
towards higher authority figures, due to circumstances in which we felt our integrity was being
compromised in our place of work.
Sammy s strong feelings towards three girls in his store, whom he did not previously know, led
him to make a choice that affected both him and his family. Sammy believed his boss, Lengel,
was in the wrong to state the store policy of, dressing decently (378), to the three girls wearing
bathing suits. Lengel also said how the store, isn t the beach , so the girls should have their,

Theories Of Domestic Violence
A therapist can help victims cope with their situation and work through the challenging emotions
they may have The number one reason domestic violence victims stay or return to an abusive
relationship is that they do not have access to financial resources to break free. Domestic violence
results in high turnover and absence at work, extended sick leaves, and losses of productivity
(Jones 12). Financial abuse is a method of controlling the victim. The abusers use isolating tactics,
such as preventing them from working, accessing bank accounts, credit cards, and forms of
transportation so that the victim is totally dependent on the abuser compromising their financial
liberties. It is difficult for a victim to seek help in situations where

Although this seems like a selfish act of hiding his own ways, due to the townspeople injustice of

his secret to Dill and Scout entrusting them with the secret. He lets the children hear Because you

without even stopping to think that they re people, too. (269). Although this may seem like just
another teaching of the story, it reveals that Mr. Raymond accepts the truth that bigotry will still

Neural Networks Are Used For Forecasting
Abstract Neural networks are used for forecasting. The purpose of any learning algorithm is to find
a function such that it maps a set of inputs to its correct output. Some input and output patterns can
be easily learned by this neural networks. However, in the learning phase single layer neural
networks cannot learn patterns that are not linearly separable. Back propagation is a common
method of training the neural networks. We are trying to develope the back propagation (BP)

With John participating in the creation of the future of the nation, he maintained a great deal of
authority and political influence. Abigail, when did you meet John Adams?
Abigail: Well, John and I have known eachother since we were children because we are actually
third cousins. John and I formally met as young adults in 1762 at a social gathering. At the time, I
was only seventeen years old, while John was twenty six. We instantly became close
friends.Pursuing a career in law in Boston, he began to frequently visit, realizing that I was his
intellectual equal, for I love to discuss politics and literature. Our relationship quickly transformed
into a long distance courtship as John furthered his career in law, until we married in 1764.

Alternative Energy Solutions For Renewable Energy
With the ever increasing demand of fossil fuels, society has been faced with the problem of a
quickly diminishing supply. We are scrambling for solutions in underdeveloped technology and
overlooked industry. There is much debate on whether any alternative energy solutions are able to
effectively replace fossil fuels. Even if they are, we are then faced with the problem of how
renewable energyprograms could be implemented and improved. There are many aspects of this
debate to consider, including energy demand, financial support, and ecological factors. The
push for alternative energies is essential and the need is eminent, therefore government
subsidization should be made a greater priority in our nation. Over millions of years the
fossilized remains of plants and animals have decayed and been stored in the form of petroleum,
natural gas, or coal underground for our later extraction. This stored energy can then be burned
to use as fuel (DOE 2008). Because these fuels take millions of years to form, the available
supply is limited for our ever progressing industrial society. Our usage is causing a lot of concern
among the energy conscious all over the world due to the fact that many developed nations could
not function without fossil fuels. The main solution to this problem goes by the name of alternative
, renewable , or clean energy. This energy comes from sources apart from fossil fuels, this includes
wind, solar, and geothermal among others (Utah 2013). These

The Legacy Of The American Civil War
The American Civil War was the result of decades of sectional tensions between the North and
South. Over the next several months eleven southern states seceded and formed the Confederate
States of America. During the first two years of the war, Southern troops won numerous victories,
but saw their fortunes turned after losses at Gettysburg and Vicksburg in 1863. From then on,
Northern forces worked to conqueror the South, forcing them to surrender in April 1865.
The roots of the Civil War can be traced to increasing differences between the North and the South
and their growing divergence as the 19th century progressed. Among the issues were expansion of
slavery into the territories, the South s declining political power, states rights, ... Show more content

Following the defeat at Bull Run, Major General George McClellan was given command of the

Peninsula. Moving slowly, he was forced to retreat after the Seven Days Battles. This campaign
saw the rise of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. After beating a Union army at Manassas, Lee
began to move north into Maryland. McClellan was sent to intercept and won a victory at
Antietam on the 17th. Unhappy with McClellan s slow pursuit of Lee, Lincoln gave command to

Abina And The Important Men Summary
Book Review of Abina and the Important Men: A Graphic History History is not static, it is ever
changing and evolving. As time goes on history changes because of new discoveries that alter the
way things have been and shed new light on what had been considered true. In Abina and the
Important Men: A Graphic History historian Trevor Getz introduces a new voice into the story of
British controlled West Africain the late nineteenth century. Getz and Liz Clarke, an illustrator,
bring forth the story of Abina, a young West African woman, who was wrongfully enslaved and
took her case to court. The book mixes history with graphic art and presents a new and interesting
at a part of history that is not very well known. Overall Getz recreates the story of Abina to show
how history is constantly adapting as more and more stories are being unearthed and heard. Abina
and the Important Men combines graphic illustrations with real history to create a contemporary
book that is both compelling and well informed. The book is split into five different sections; the

Through the graphic illustrations Abina story is described in detail. Though the story is
interesting and admirable, it seems to be exaggerated in many ways. In the book Abina is a
young woman, probably around the age of twelve, though this is implied, Getz seems to create a
strong young woman who is sure of herself and of who she is. This is not to say that the story is
invalid, but rather that Getz s own wishes for the woman Abina was carried over into his history.
As with most books, the history is biased. Throughout the first section of the book Getz s own
feelings and ideas about the story are transferred into the story of Abina. This is even more
apparent at the end of the graphic narrative where Getz himself appears, telling the reader that new
history can always be found and no voice is ever too

Marxist View On The Importance Of Being Ernest
Viewing the play of The Importance of Being Earnest from a feminist perspective portrays the men
in the Victorian Era to be misogynistic. A perpetuated stereotype in this play is that women should
be protected from the truth. Jack:[In a very patronizing manner] My dear fellow, the truth isn t
quite the sort of thing one tells to a nice, sweet, refined girl. What extraordinary ideas you have
about the way to behave to a woman (29)! The belief that women are fragile and unable to handle

they had met before and had had many romantic encounters, she is presented as mentally insane.
This perpetuates the belief that women depend on men and could not be satisfied without one in

Politics Of Aruba
Aruba s first known inhabitant dates to 1000 A.D. The earliest known settlers were known as the
Caquetio Indians of the Arawak tribe from the South American mainland. During the Pre ceramic
Period of habitation (2500 BC 1000 AD), the Caquetio Indians, were accustomed to living in small
family groups, they were known as skilled fishermen with only the use of roughly flaked stones
and shell as tools, hunters, and gatherers. Their only way of survival was dependent on the sea
along the coast of Arubaat locations now known as Malmok and Palm Beach. During the late 15th
century, 1499, an explorer by the name of Lonso de Ojeda claimed Aruba for the Spanish throne,
naming the island la isla de los gigantes in English meaning the island of giants. Soon the Spanish
began the process of enslavement and religious conversion, setting up garrisons and ranches on
Aruba. By 1513 the entire Indian population was enslaved and taken to work on the Spanish states...

Factors Affecting Tax Compliance of Small and Medium Scale...
Background of the Study
Tax compliance has been a topic of great interest to Revenue authorities especially in the
developed countries. Hostility towards tax compliance is an age old problem. Taxes are
considered a problem by everyone. Not surprising, taxation problems date back to the earliest
recorded history (Taxworld Organization, 1999).
Developing countries, perhaps due to their frequent budget deficits have not been able to conduct
comprehensive research on the behavior of taxpayer in relation to compliance. Hostility between
the taxpayers and tax collectors on issue relating to tax compliance is evidenced by frequent tax
evasion reports in our local newspapers (Juma, 2010) and outward resistance from taxpayers for

An experiment with presumption tax (abolished in 1993 and re introduced in 1995) was a
particularly notable attempt to formalize parts of the informal agricultural sector (Cheeseman and
Griffins, 2005). Further attempts focused on the use of advance tax and tax on rental incomes.
However, given the invisibility of the informal sector and scarce empirical work to understand tax
relevant information, the presumption tax approach and the advance tax approaches failed to
achieve the intended objectives. It is not difficult to understand why they could not work. If the
Government does not know about the income received by farmers, farm workers and small scale
entrepreneurs, it can have no prospects of taxing it. This creates the need for a proper income
survey to determine the optimal tax yield, the ability and willingness to pay.
The advent of the East African Community customs union further complicates the tax compliance
risk management problem. In 2005, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania signed a treaty forming the East
Africa Community (EAC) customs union which has now been expanded to include Rwanda and
Burundi. The purpose of the customs union is to promote trade and other elements of regional
development. The dominant feature of the customs union is that member states agreed to reduce
tariffs. The Heads of State reached an agreement to

B. Indicators of Human Resources To obtain an indicator of adequate human resources is very
difficult, because, as explained in advance, the dimensions of human resources is very broad,
which includes both qualitative and quantitative aspects of the micro and macro scale. The
following will discuss some of the indicators of human resources that can be used to assess the
condition of human resources in an area. Quantitatively, HR can be seen in terms of number, for
example the number of population, number of workers, and the labor force. But keep in mind
that in order to obtain a true picture, these variables need to be combined with other variables,
such as level of education, literacy, skills, and health status (life expectancy) (Widarti, 1993).
Other variables that can be used, especially with regard to aspects of employment is derived
variables LUA approach (Labor Utilization Approach) by Hauser (1974). In this approach the
labor force can be divided into the labor force and are not fully utilized fully. Labor force that is
not fully utilized can be divided into not used at all (unemployed) and underemployed
(underemployment). Underemployed can be subdivided into underemployed according to working
hours, wages, and mismatch. Briefly, these variables can be explained as follows. a. LFPR (labor
force participation rate) is the ratio between the number of labor force to the working age
population. b.

After you solve for (y) move on to solving for (x) and put in the (x,y) into the graph. To determine
if your (x,y) are true or false you must sub 0,0 for x and y in of your inequality. Once solve for
inequalities given, you may find the feasible region in which all inequalities are found. You can use
the feasible region to find where the inequalities would be true and where the optimal line (profit or
cost line)give the max the last point the optimal line touches and min the first point it touches. In

Inequalities are similar to equations because they both are solving for (x,y), wanting y by itself,
what is done to one side must be done to the other side and both have a variety of solutions.
Inequalities are different from equations because one uses an equal sign all the time while the
other uses four different signs ( removed HTML ) , ≤ and ≥ inequalities can have many
answers while equation can only have one answers. System of inequalities involves using different
symbols such as greater than , less than , greater than or equal to ≥ and less than or equal to
≤ with many different answers. System of equations always uses = sign and have two methods
of solving for (x,y) and also can only have one

Marcus Garvey a Jamaican political leader born 1887 August 17 in Saint Ann s Bay, Jamaica. He
was the youngest out of the eleven children his mother Sarah Jane Richards had. She was a
domestic worker and farmer as her job. She was a good influence on Marcus who was once
described bold, determined, and strong. He refused to yield to superior forces if he believed he was
right. His father (Marcus Mosiah Harvey Sr) was known around Jamaica for having a large library
where Marcus Garveylearned to read and Self educated himself. Although he received primary

Garvey appealed his convictions, but was denied. Later through the years in 1927 he was
released from prison and was immediately deported to Jamaica. He continued his political
activism and work in Jamaica and the moved to London in 1935 but didn t command the same
influence he had earlier in his life. Garvey collaborated with outspoken segregationist and white
supremacist while trying to get Senator Theodore Bilbo of Mississippi to promote a reparation
scheme. The Greater Liberia Act of 1939 would deport 12 million African Americans to Liberia
at federal expense to release unemployment. The act failed in Congress, and Garvey lost about
half of his support among the black population. On June 10, 1940 died in London after several
strokes that lead him to death. Due to him being in WW2 his had traveling restrictions that his
body was interred in London. His remains were taken to Jamaica, where the government
proclaimed him as the First national hero. In honor of him the country Ghana has named its

Leadership Theories and Analysis
What is leadership?
Leadership is the behaviour of an individual when he is directing the activities of a group towards
a shared goal . (Hemphill and Coons, 1957, p.7)
A leader is interpreted as someone who sets direction in an effort and influences people to follow
that direction. How they set that direction and influence people depends on a variety of factors. To
really comprehend the territory of leadership, one should briefly scan some of the major theories,
notice various styles of leadership and review some of the suggested traits and characteristics that
leaders should have.
There are many leadership theories. Arthur G. Jago (1982) proposed a framework that organizes
leadership theories based on each theory s focus and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this style, leaders look upon their followers as people their needs, interests, problems,
development and so on. They are not simply units of production or means to an end.
Directive leadership. This style is characterized by leaders taking decisions for others and expecting
followers or subordinates to follow instructions.
Participative leadership. Here leaders try to share decision making with others.
(Wright 1996: 36 7)
Contingencies theory.
The central idea of this approach was that effective leadership was dependent on a mix of factors.
Fred E. Fiedler argued that effectiveness depends on two interacting factors: leadership style and the
degree to which the situation gives the leader control and influence.
Devices Fiedler used to determine leader personality and the situation was Least Preferred Co
worker (LPC) Scale. The LPC is used to measure a leader s motivation: Task motivation vs.
relationship motivation (these are the trait versions of the concern of production vs. concern of
people categories in the Managerial Grid).
Fiedler assumes that everybody s least preferred co worker in fact is on average about equally
unpleasant. But people who are relationship motivated tend to describe their least preferred co
workers in a more positive manner, e.g., more pleasant and more

2 Analysis of Southwest Airlines 3.8 Industry
The recent economical and financial downturn severely impacted the airline industry in 2009 and
brought only small increases in 2010. The recession negatively influenced the discretional income
of travellers. More precisely, the leisure travellers and business travellers budget changes resulted
with a sudden decrease in their demand. Therefore, corporate policies tightened and generally the
demand for travelling decreased. On the other hand, demand for substitute products, such as video
conferences and surface travel, has increased. As a result, many airlines, including Southwest
Airlines, responded with capacity cuts and fare discounting. On the other hand, Southwest used the
opportunity also to further expand and because of its low fare services, it could enter new markets
as well. 3.9 Company s Overview
Southwest Airlines is described on the NASDAQ profile as a major passenger airline that
provides scheduled air transportation in the US . The company primarily serves short haul
routes, but over the recent years they have expanded their services to medium and long haul
routes as well. Their unique feature is that it only operates with Boeing 737 as it is a domestic
low cost carrier company and it was necessary to have aircrafts that are easy to maintain and
repair. If a company only uses one type of aircraft, the technical issues are

A Day At The Cafeteria
Wanda promised to rendezvous with her sister at the cafeteria. When she arrived at the place with
the help of a guy name Theodore, Wanda saw Kate sitting alone in the table with her lunch food
already on the table. Hi, Wanda! Thank god you here. Wanda went sat in front of Melanie and they
having conversation about their thoughts and feelings about their first day at new school, which
both of them agreed it was much better day than their previous school. And I saw Christian... you

Melanie hated the pink colour. Slowly and carefully she took all the books from her bag and
arranged them one by one to avoid the metal from broke down. After she was done, without any
warning whatsoever, a guy pushed and slammed her to her locker and kissed her hungrily. With
a surprise, she tried to scream, though the problem was, she s out of breath. The guy was so
strong and his lips still kissed hers. She tried to reach the thick book inside her locker, but failed.
It was too far from her reach. Why was everyone just watching them? Why didn t they help
Melanie? Without any second thought, Melanie used her worth five years of judo classes. He

Democracy Derailed Essay
Democracy Derailed looks at the initiative process, the effects of that process and asked the
question, Is this a good way to make public policy? I feel that even though the process is not
perfect it is a great way to allow the average citizen more power in policy making.
The History
Democracy Derailed begins with addressing the evolution of the initiative process. During the first
twenty years in Plymouth Colonies, all adult men met to consider legislation. In 1715,
Massachusetts had to address anything that was supported by ten citizens. By 1788, Massachusetts
began conducting referendums, and by the 1850 s, referendums had become an acceptable
practice. By the end of the 1800 s, direct legislation in states had become ... Show more content on

The common ground that all members shared was their dislike and distrust for Democrats,
Republicans, banks and monopolists. They felt that these groups were controlled by extreme
corruption and infested legislatures with bribes to maintain control and power.
Both groups chose the initiative to help clean up governmental corruption, inspired by its use in
Switzerland. The Webster s Dictionary defines initiative as, the introduction of proposed
legislation, as to popular vote, by voters petitions. This is what dre3w both the Populists and
Progressives to migrating initiatives to the United States. The popular theory was that if voters
would gain education and curiosity connected to public affairs. Initiatives seemed like the logical
solution to allow power directly aback in the people s hands. Woodrow Wilson wrote that, the men
who have been ruling America must consent to let majority into the game...We will not allow the
few to continue to determine what the policy of the country is to be...all men with the convictions
of America in their hearts, will crowd to that standard and a new day of achievement may come for
the liberty we love.
Wilson was just one politician to believe that initiatives could help American government. Theodore
Roosevelt, Jane Adams, Head of Direct Legislation Eltweed Pomeroy, President of WCTU

The Life Of Joan Of Arc
Since God had commanded it, it was necessary that I do it. Since God commanded it, even if I had
a hundred fathers and mothers, even if I had been a King s daughter, I would have gone
nevertheless. (Joan of Arc) Joan of Arc once said after she had gotten the call to follow God. Joan
of Arc was and still is an inspiration to everyone. By her early life she is recodnized, end of life,
and by how she influences the world today. Joan of Arcwas a great leader and woman. Jeanne d
Arc, or Joan of Arc in English, was born in 1412 in DomrГ©my, France while they were at war
with England. Of a poor farmer named Jacques d Arc she was the daughter and her mother
Isabelle or RomГ©e. Her mother taught her how to work at home and on the farm. About God and
the Catholic Church she only ever learned. When she hit the age of thirteen, she started hearing
voices and having visions. In a few of her visions were SaintMichaeland Saint Catherine. To help
fight for France against the English she believed that they were all telling her. At sixteen years
of age, she was forced into a marriage by her father after taking a vow of chastity, so she went to
the court and they said that she would not be compelled to marry. Joan of Arc was an extremely
stubborn and strong willed woman from an early age who would do what she thought was right
and what needed to be done. (Joan of Arc) In the late spring of 1428 Joan of Arc went off to fight
in the war. The virgin who was destined to save France, she

Inequality In America And The American Dream
Even though U. S is the land of opportunities, it seems just as impossible to achieve the American
dream. The American system is controlled by the wealthy who choose, which laws to impose in
the benefit for themselves and organization. The inequality between the poor and rich is so wide
this makes the American dream for most Americans impossible to achieve. To be wealthy like top
1% of the Americans, you need freedom of choice, an inheritance from rich parents and work hard
to achieve the American dream. Before going to my claim, inequality is a interesting topic, which
deserves a little attention. Inequality in America has grown over the past and in fact, it is still
growing at a very fast rate. Income... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, since it is freedom of choice not only does it let us achieve our goals and fulfilment
but also it is important whether or not it makes us happy. Most people who are very successful
today is because they did what they loved doing what they did. For example, Bill Gates who is
the richest person in the world dropped out of Harvard University and started working on his
Microsoft software because it was something he loved doing, and now he the richest in the
world. By contrast, majorities say freedom of choice in how to live (77%), having a good family
life (70%) and retiring comfortably (60%) are essential to their view of the American dream
(Samantha 7 13). From this fact we can tell that freedom of choice is very important, that is why
we have wealthy people in America. Wish American parents should start allowing their children to
make their choices but should be there just to encourage and guide them. To be wealthy like top 1%
of the Americans, coming from a rich home inheriting your parent s wealth will increase your
chances of being rich. This method of being rich is quite easy because you do not really have to
do anything to be rich since you would just inherit your parent s wealth, that is if your parents are
very wealthy. When mentioned anything above, you do not really have to work or look for a job
because your parents are already wealthy. The only thing you need to worry about is a means of
making more money, which might

Investigation of How Mark Shows the Difference Between Jesus and the Pharisees Over the
Observance of the Sabbath
Jesus and the Pharisees face each other and test each others religious and spiritual knowledge and
understanding regularly in Mark s gospel. These common conflicts brought emphasis to just how
much Jesus knew about God s opinions of the Sabbath in comparison to the Pharisees. On many
occasions he even outsmarted the great teachers of the law. Jesus was constantly the first to be
confronted by the Pharisees but always the one to make the last point, because as much as they
tried the Pharisees could never beat Jesus in a test of spiritual and religious knowledge. However,
they persisted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Pharisees were brought up in a completely different way because of this, their
opinions and interpretation about Jewish life were different to his. I will now provide some
information surrounding the Pharisees:
The word Pharisee means separated one . I assume that this was the name issued to them due to
the fact that they thought so highly of themselves that they were separated from the rest of
society. They considered themselves superior to the other Jews, because of their knowledge on
the Holy Scriptures. They became almost like teachers to the public due to their knowledge, as
people were to come to them for advice since they assumed that the scriptures had solutions to all
of their problems. Many people became dependant on the Pharisees religious guidance which made
them powerful and a significant group of people. I believe that their abilities made some of the
Pharisees overconfident, self centred and big headed .
The Pharisees came from among wealthy business people and merchants. This is partially why
they thought so highly of themselves, because of their great financial network. The only
significant thing to the Pharisees was their oral law, the Law of Moses and the law of the Sabbath
and how their rules and standards were being kept. They wanted the rest of the Jewish community
to live by a strict code of

  • 2. Natural Disasters In Louisiana The damage done by the recent floods in Louisiana has completely adulterated the lives and homes of the residents. To prepare for any natural disaster coming to your area one must use ambidextrous or versatile plans to evacuate. Not immediately coming to rescue a person trapped under a building after an earthquake will only augment their chances of death. The survivors of any natural disaster will be bereft of their livelihood and basic necessities. The police may deploy squadrons of policemen to help aid recovery and protection efforts after a natural disaster. If you talk to anyone who has experienced and survived a natural disaster, they will probably talk about their experiences in a dour tone. Humanity itself can show great fortitude ... • 3. The Potential for a Severe Food Shortage in the United States A severe shortage of food in the United States could occur from many causes. Farms could stop growing crops and breeding animals. Some sort of bacteria could sweep through the country killing different food plants. The more important part of the shortage of food however would not be the causes, but the effects. The stance of the country s economy, the well being of middle and lower class families, and the quality of stores that used to sell the products would all decline greatly if an event as severe as an extreme shortage of foodwere to occur. General stores generate a large profit from the sale of food. Some stores like Whole Foods and King Soopers do not sell much besides food products. If there were to be a severe shortage of food, stores like Whole Foods, Walmart, Costco, and King Soopers would take a severe hit in terms of income and the ability to compete with other stores. Places like these would not be able to keep up financially if there were a lack of people buying their food products. There are other non food products that these stores may sell, but these other products would not be able to sell due to the fact that people would be focusing more on ways to get food rather than buying a new T.V. or a new pair of shoes. Families in cities rely on general stores and health food stores to obtain food products. A severe shortage of food throughout the country would raise potentially difficult questions for families. Where are they going to get food now that stores ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A History Of Christmas In The 19th Century The History of Christmas in America In the first half of the 19th century, Christmas was a very different kind of holiday than it is today. People did not have a set way of celebrating. Christmas was not even an official holiday yet. So, communities around the country honored the day in different ways. Some observed Christmas as an important Christian religious day, honoring the birth of Jesus. Others celebrated the day with parties, music, drinking and eating. And, some communities did not celebrate the day at all. But, it was during the early 1800s that Americans began to reinvent the holiday. They started combining ancient Christmas traditions with modern American influences. Shirley Griffith and Steve Ember tell the story. In 1819, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Louisiana was the first state to make the move in 1837. By 1860, 14 other states had followed. It was not until 1870 that President Ulysses Grant made Christmas a federal holiday. Americans already knew old Christmas songs that came from England and other areas of Europe. But many new American Christmas songs started to become popular. For example, in 1849, a religious leader from Massachusetts wrote the words to It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. The song Jingle Bells appeared seven years later. And, a year later, a religious leader in Williamsport, Pennsylvania wrote the song We Three Kings of Orient Are. And of course, no discussion of Christmas would be complete without talking about of one of the holiday s most famous representations: Santa Claus. This character is based on the story of Saint Nicholas, a Christian holy person believed to have lived in the third century. Saint Nicholas became known as a protector of children. In his role as a Christmas hero, different cultures have given him different names. These include Sinterklaas, Kris Kringle and Father Christmas. But for most Americans his most popular name would become Santa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics , by Steve Wilson. Lessons to Live By In his book, Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, author Steve Wilkens discusses nine ethical views that are prevalent in cultures today. Although the systems are sometimes vague, and his discussions, a bit biased, I find myself fortunate because I seem to agree with most of his opinions that he lets slip. The first ethical belief that the author discusses is Cultural Relativism. It talks about the how diversity is becoming more and more apparent between different cultures worldwide. The author mentions that often customs that are unquestioningly accepted in one part of the world are considered abhorrent in another, for example: human sacrifice. Cultural Relativism claims that there are no absolute standards for moral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No crime would be anyone s fault. People would not take responsibility for their actions, and this world in fact, not be ethical at all. Egoism advocates the selfish pursuit of happiness, although it does seem to put more emphasis on selfishness than happiness. Utilitarianism, which is the next view discussed, keeps the pursuit of happiness, but eliminates selfishness. This system seems more socially inclusive, and its main slogan is the greatest happiness for the greatest number. To me, this is the most wishy washy chapter. One thing from this ethical view that I do agree with is that it offers a means of balancing individual freedoms with social obligations. While God does choose certain people to do certain things, we are all judged according to one standard and loved equally by God. Also, it would seem difficult to imagine a loving God who wants to torture his creatures. Of course He wants them to be happy. One problem I have with this view is that it says that actions are judged by their consequences. If this is true, then we can t know if our actions are good are bad because the decision is dependent on knowing the future. Also, if we chose one path, we would still not know what the results of the other choices would have been so how would one know if the one he made was the greatest good. Also, according to Utilitarianism, we must face the problems concerning the extent ( greatest number ) of actions. We would then have to face who would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Powell, 18 Lessons in Leadership General Powell highlights 18 lessons learned in leadership that are applied to successful companies, and how they are applied to leadership in his presentation to the Outreach Program, and the Sears Corporate Headquarters. These approaches can be applied not only in business but life in general. I will highlight three of the lessons that have impacted my career in the military Lesson 7 Too often in business as well as the military, If it ain t broke, don t fix it (Powell, C #7). Too often the command as well as enlisted soldiers will use this analogy to continue to do what they have always done and fight change. Also this leads to allowing small details to be overlooked because it s been allowed before, these small details, such as production schedules become larger details. These small little details will cause larger details to be overlooked in the future. This culture will foster reactivity instead of promoting proactivity (Powell, C #7). This type of culture is a struggle for leaders to change in the National Guard because of the hometown mentality, all though we strive to keep the since of community in our units as leaders we have to be the supporters of change. One with an eternity together in the afterlife, and an eternity of impacting future generations to come. The song Taro by Alt. This song describes the love story of Robert Capa and Gerda Taro in a very practical way, the ending to their love story wasn t full of unicorns and rainbows as you would assume to be. Robert Capa loved photography, especially war photography. • 9. Entrepreneurship in the Brazilian offshoring industry Essay Case 1: Entrepreneurship in the Brazilian offshoring industry Brazil is one of the nations included in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China). In the past, Brazil s outsourcing industry has been the smallest of the four BRIC nations. This is very surprising due to the close proximity to the United States and the current trend of near shoring . However, due to recent governmental backing and inflows of capital Brazil has begun to improve and could possibly overtake Russia, India and China in the offshoring industry. The most promising sector in Brazil is their IT sector. Capital Access Index 2009 Access to Capital Brazil is the fourth best country in Latin America for access to capital for entrepreneurs. Access to Research Development One reason for Brazil s success is due to their rapid spending in science and government incentives. However, concerns over rising inflation and an overheated economy has led Brazil s newly elected President to implement across the board government spending cuts, totaling close to $30 billion. Resulting from the cut was a $577 million reduction in funding for the Ministry of Science Technology, which was about 11% of the previous year s budget. This lack of R D spending could become a weakness for the future of Brazil[4]. In response to the growing concern, Brazil s government established a new panel to study the future of science in the country. The panel will draw up long‑term plans for sustaining R D within the country[4]. Technology In IT technology Brazil is well staffed with its 250,000 IT professionals, 23,000 annual IT graduates, and infrastructure capable of supporting double digit growth. According to the Brazilian Association of Information Technology and Communication Companies (BRASSCOM), Brazil s offshore outsourcing market hit $1.4 billion in 2008, rising 75 percent in a single year. The challenge is always in balancing the complexity of a compensation plan with the desired behavior. I don t believe that options compensation is the primary driver of behavior when things shift from the legal to the illegal. • 11. Irony In Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon A Time Irony Exploration/Reflection Essay I believe that the story Once upon a Time by Nadine Gordimer shows significant irony. The main type of irony that Gordimer s uses in the story is situational irony. Situational irony is when the story ends or has a twist that is opposite of what is expected to happen. Some examples of these ironic elements are that the wall and wire the little boy s parents installed was to keep him safe, and it ended up being what harmed him the most. The title of the story is also ironic due to the title being Once upon a Time. As a reader, one would assume that the story will have a happy ending like tradition children stories. However, the story ends tragically and kills the most innocent character. Also the little boy is pretending that he is a prince who is brave enough to cross through the terrible thorns to make it to the castle to kiss the sleeping beauty back to life. This is ironic because the little boy s actions are contributing to the traditional fairy tales with happy endings, and him pretending to be a brave prince contributes to his death. The use of ironysends the main idea of the story to the readers in a more interesting way. When the child dies, the message being conveyed is a slap in the face. It also makes the story more suspenseful and shocking to the reader as well as sad. Another story that withholds significant irony is The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence. Situational irony is also the main type of irony in this story. One of the ironic elements is that Paul s father and mother are struggling financially and it should be their burden to take care of the family. Paul is young and is only expected to go to school and do well. Neither mother or father would ever consider turning to Paul for financial help. Little do they know that Paul turns to gambling and earns the money his family could never get even though he is a child. Paul gives this to his mother secretly for her birthday. Paul even checks on her to see if the money would make her happy. Ironically she is still not satisfied. This is also confirmed by the house s whispers increase saying they need money. The gambling eventually sneaks up on Paul, and aids to his death. It is ironic that Paul s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1832, England experienced the death of George IV and accession of William IV in 1830 ,that resulted in a general parliamentary election in which the opposition political party, the Whigs, scored major gains with their platform calling for parliamentary reform. With the Tory party divided, the king asked the leader of the Whigs, Earl Grey, to form a government. The new Austrian Empire was a collection of subject nationalities (more non Germans than Germans) stirred by acute nationalism, its government was reactionary, meaning liberal institutions were nonexistent, and its reliance on serfdom doomed the mass of people to misery. As soon as the news of of the February days in France reached the borders of the empire, rebellions began. In document 6, it shows a Presentation of a Bill by a Hungarian Diet to Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria. This document describes the revolt against freedom and independence that was granted to them. It also shares how the military risked their lives to suppress a rebellion. Most of the citizens are revolting and not compromising to their rules, and that then caused violence such as, villages that are burned down and massacres occurring. The main purpose of this document is to show how the people can become violent if pushed enough. People in this time turned to violence, because they wanted a change and still wasn t granted their freedoms. In document 7, Louis Kossuth discusses his Address to the People of United States, March 1850 . It shows how abominable the government can be towards the people. Similarly, many of you can relate to having these same, similar thoughts. Thus, in this paper, I will delve into what Voodoo truly is and discuss some of the important nursing implications of this particular type of religion. As such, in the following paragraphs, I plan to discuss the origin of Haitian Voodoo and their views on the teaching and values related to illness, prolongation of life through extraordinary means, euthanasia, donation of body parts, autopsy, burial and disposal of the body, funeral rites, and hospice. ORIGIN OF VOODOO The origin of voodoo began back in the 16th century and was created by enslaved Africans who were taken from their homeland in order to be sold into black slavery, in what was formerly know Santo Domingo in 1647 (Tann, 2012). Not to mention that it was not uncommon for slaves to have an expected lifespan of a year to two upon arrival to Haiti due to the harsh working conditions they had to endure (Tann, 2012). Moreover, in the next couple of centuries, the country of Haiti would face government corruption, revolts, and bloodshed. However, despite these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While on a voyage for Spain in search of a direct sea route from Europe to Asia, Christopher Columbus accidentally discovered the Americas. However, in four separate voyages to the Caribbean from 1492 to 1504, he remained convinced that he had found the lands that Marco Polo reached in his overland travels to China at the end of the 13th century. • 16. Australia s International Obligations Analysis Australia s international obligations are framed by the United Nations, as this organisation is paramount to enforcing international law and fundamental human rights. The United Nations (UN) was founded in 1945, shortly after World War II, by a group of representatives from fifty nations. Their motive was to establish a stable forum in which international issues could be discussed and prevent wars between powerful nations. The power and purpose of the UN is bound by its founding charter, similar to a constitution, containing one hundred and eleven articles which authorize the rights and obligations of members (United Nations, 2017). Australia s international obligations extend extra territorially according to these agreements and Australia is legally responsible for any contravention of obligations, regardless of whether or not an Australian official was liable. However, the international obligations vary significantly between Australia, PNG and Nauru, creating much difficulty in terms of effectively implementing these obligations. For instance, Nauru is not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, nor do they have the domestic legal structure to implement such obligations, due to the impoverished state of the country (Dr Hathaway, 2016). PNG faces similar challenges in regards to the socio economic state of the country and struggles to implement such obligations, despite being a signatory to the Refugee Convention. Neither of these designated offshore processing states have the legal capacity to uphold international obligations, thus creating great potential for violations of these obligations (Archbold, 2015). This impacts the Australian government as it is difficult to regulate activity in the regional processing centres and if obligations were to be breached, the government would be responsible regardless of who contravened. We are scrambling for solutions in underdeveloped technology and overlooked industry. There is much debate on whether any alternative energy solutions are able to effectively replace fossil fuels. Even if they are, we are then faced with the problem of how renewable energyprograms could be implemented and improved. There are many aspects of this debate to consider, including energy demand, financial support, and ecological factors. The push for alternative energies is essential and the need is eminent, therefore government subsidization should be made a greater priority in our nation. Over millions of years the fossilized remains of plants and animals have decayed and been stored in the form of petroleum, natural gas, or coal underground for our later extraction. This stored energy can then be burned to use as fuel (DOE 2008). Because these fuels take millions of years to form, the available supply is limited for our ever progressing industrial society. Developing countries, perhaps due to their frequent budget deficits have not been able to conduct comprehensive research on the behavior of taxpayer in relation to compliance. An experiment with presumption tax (abolished in 1993 and re introduced in 1995) was a particularly notable attempt to formalize parts of the informal agricultural sector (Cheeseman and Griffins, 2005). Further attempts focused on the use of advance tax and tax on rental incomes. However, given the invisibility of the informal sector and scarce empirical work to understand tax relevant information, the presumption tax approach and the advance tax approaches failed to achieve the intended objectives. It is not difficult to understand why they could not work. If the Government does not know about the income received by farmers, farm workers and small scale entrepreneurs, it can have no prospects of taxing it. This creates the need for a proper income survey to determine the optimal tax yield, the ability and willingness to pay. • 40. PQLI Chapter I Introduction One of the development goals of the Republic of Indonesia is improving the quality of human. Theoretically, the example human quality are intelligent, educated and healthy, will always improve quality and at the same time as members of the community will help to improve the quality of community life. The role of life quality can be seen from the increase in income, housing quality, good health and others. But in reality the relationship is not only the unidirectional, but reciprocity. High quality of life will also affect the quality of the human being. For example, a high income is able to provide nutritional diversity to the intellectual development of children and the opportunity to improve higher education.... Indicators of Human Resources To obtain an indicator of adequate human resources is very difficult, because, as explained in advance, the dimensions of human resources is very broad, which includes both qualitative and quantitative aspects of the micro and macro scale. The following will discuss some of the indicators of human resources that can be used to assess the condition of human resources in an area. Quantitatively, HR can be seen in terms of number, for example the number of population, number of workers, and the labor force. But keep in mind that in order to obtain a true picture, these variables need to be combined with other variables, such as level of education, literacy, skills, and health status (life expectancy) (Widarti, 1993). Other variables that can be used, especially with regard to aspects of employment is derived variables LUA approach (Labor Utilization Approach) by Hauser (1974). In this approach the labor force can be divided into the labor force and are not fully utilized fully. Labor force that is not fully utilized can be divided into not used at all (unemployed) and underemployed (underemployment). Underemployed can be subdivided into underemployed according to working hours, wages, and mismatch. Briefly, these variables can be explained as follows. a. LFPR (labor force participation rate) is the ratio between the number of labor force to the working age population. b. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Linear Inequations The unit we finished is called Cookies. The unit is about the system of inequalities, system of equations, using constraints, graphing, finding the feasible region, soling for the profit/optimal line, and finding the P.O.I. We began the unit learning about solving for ( x,y ) then subbing 0,0 to find out if they were true or false and graphing them to find the feasible region. Then we learned how to solve a system of equations using two different methods. In this unit we learned how to graph a system of linear inequalities to find and use feasible region. The first step is to get variable y by itself if by moving the variable x to the other side or if y is already alone leave it. After you solve for (y) move on to solving for (x) and put in the (x,y) into the graph. To determine if your (x,y) are true or false you must sub 0,0 for x and y in of your inequality. Once solve for inequalities given, you may find the feasible region in which all inequalities are found. You can use the feasible region to find where the inequalities would be true and where the optimal line (profit or cost line)give the max the last point the optimal line touches and min the first point it touches. (Hemphill and Coons, 1957, p.7) A leader is interpreted as someone who sets direction in an effort and influences people to follow that direction. How they set that direction and influence people depends on a variety of factors. To really comprehend the territory of leadership, one should briefly scan some of the major theories, notice various styles of leadership and review some of the suggested traits and characteristics that leaders should have. There are many leadership theories. Arthur G. Jago (1982) proposed a framework that organizes leadership theories based on each theory s focus and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this style, leaders look upon their followers as people their needs, interests, problems, development and so on. They are not simply units of production or means to an end. Directive leadership. This style is characterized by leaders taking decisions for others and expecting followers or subordinates to follow instructions. Participative leadership. Here leaders try to share decision making with others. (Wright 1996: 36 7) Contingencies theory. The central idea of this approach was that effective leadership was dependent on a mix of factors. Fred E. Fiedler argued that effectiveness depends on two interacting factors: leadership style and the degree to which the situation gives the leader control and influence. Devices Fiedler used to determine leader personality and the situation was Least Preferred Co worker (LPC) Scale. The LPC is used to measure a leader s motivation: Task motivation vs. relationship motivation (these are the trait versions of the concern of production vs. concern of people categories in the Managerial Grid). The recession negatively influenced the discretional income of travellers. More precisely, the leisure travellers and business travellers budget changes resulted with a sudden decrease in their demand. Therefore, corporate policies tightened and generally the demand for travelling decreased. On the other hand, demand for substitute products, such as video conferences and surface travel, has increased. As a result, many airlines, including Southwest Airlines, responded with capacity cuts and fare discounting. On the other hand, Southwest used the opportunity also to further expand and because of its low fare services, it could enter new markets as well. 3.9 Company s Overview Southwest Airlines is described on the NASDAQ profile as a major passenger airline that provides scheduled air transportation in the US . I feel that even though the process is not perfect it is a great way to allow the average citizen more power in policy making. The History Democracy Derailed begins with addressing the evolution of the initiative process. During the first twenty years in Plymouth Colonies, all adult men met to consider legislation. In 1715, Massachusetts had to address anything that was supported by ten citizens. By 1788, Massachusetts began conducting referendums, and by the 1850 s, referendums had become an acceptable practice. By the end of the 1800 s, direct legislation in states had become ... In addition, since it is freedom of choice not only does it let us achieve our goals and fulfilment but also it is important whether or not it makes us happy. Most people who are very successful today is because they did what they loved doing what they did. For example, Bill Gates who is the richest person in the world dropped out of Harvard University and started working on his Microsoft software because it was something he loved doing, and now he the richest in the world. By contrast, majorities say freedom of choice in how to live (77%), having a good family life (70%) and retiring comfortably (60%) are essential to their view of the American dream (Samantha 7 13). Many people became dependant on the Pharisees religious guidance which made them powerful and a significant group of people.
