Most Significant Development In Human History
There are three distinctive theories of the most significant development in the human history and those
are, Olduwan tools, hunting, and fire. Even though Olduwan tools giving access and the ability for
early humans to hunt in groups, the most significant factor I believe is fire. It is because, fire gave the
ability to early humans to cook raw meats in return, gave access to better nutrition and easier ability to
break down food which helped with further evolution of human physiology.
The importance fire can first be seen in the biological standpoint. Evidence shows nutrition that the
cooked meat gave versus the raw meat through increased size of the brain. According to Adler (2013),
the human body burns energy at a significant rate for heart, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The cooked food gave the early human advantage of consume food that were easier to digest because,
the cooked food alters food in three important ways. First, it breaks starch molecules into more
digestible fragments, it denatures protein molecules, and the heat physically softens food (N.A, 2009).
This gave the early humans spend more time on doing variety of different things rather than spend
hours at a time chewing on food which won t give time to develop intelligence. Also the soft food
gave change in human structure with smaller teeth and jaws which gave more accessibility to brain
size. Another factor that increased the intelligence of early human is attempting to create a controlled
fire which further gave the ability to travel to the region that was colder than the continent of origin
Africa. The tools and hunting might have given the early humans the ability to access the food.
However, all the evidence points to the fact that the significance of fire and how it helped the early
humans to develop intelligence, consumption of food that was higher in nutrient and the ability to
travel to different region that was cold at the tide due to the ice shelfs across the Northern parts of the

Lady Bird Johnson, And Jacqueline Kennedy
The first lady is an unpaid public servant elected by one person her husband. Lady Bird Johnson. First
ladies tend to be looked upon as simply public figures or as support for the president. Not many
recognize the sacrifice first ladies make for their country, or the work they have been volunteered to
carry out. Their jobs are much more than living in the White House, selecting the proper china for
certain company, or memorizing the names of the many wives of certain foreign leaders. Much on the
contrary, the first lady has political significance and each has made their mark on society. Five
examples are first ladies Hillary Rodham Clinton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosalynn Carter, Claudia (Lady
Bird) Johnson, and Jacqueline Kennedy.
Former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton is known throughout the world for the astounding things she
has accomplished, not only in the White House, but out. She is full of passion for whatever she sets as
her goal. Her confidence and constant motivational talks set a crowd on fire and her vision for the
future leaves most encouraged for they know that she s on their side. She is constantly aware of what
others think of her and works her hardest to make the world a better place and gain the trust of the
people. Hillary Rodham Clinton was chosen by her husband to be the leader of the Health Care
Reform and supervised research, investigatory trips, financial reports, numerous committees

Life Choices in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken and...
Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening both portray
weighing of choices in life. The former is about youth and experiencing life and the latter is about old
age, or more probably, an old spirit wearied by life. In both poems the speaker is in a critical situation
where he has to choose between two paths in life. In The Road Not taken the speaker chooses the
unconventional approach to the decision making process, thus showing his uniqueness and
challenging mentality while in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker seeks a life
without any pain and struggle but at the end, he has to comply with social obligation, which reflects
his responsibility towards the society.
In the poem, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By choosing the harder path, the speaker declares his rebellion against the popular opinion as
represented by the other road. He decides not to conform to society and takes up a less popular choice.
When considering his choices the speaker shows the typical human reaction. He considers taking both
paths at first. He says, Oh I kept the first for another day , but later confesses he doubted if [he] should
ever come back (13 15). Thus the poem s significance lies in the speakers making a decision by
choosing a road and moving on with his life. The act of choosing the road represents his uniqueness
and the fact that he is always moving forward, even without stopping. Like The Road Not Taken , in
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , the speaker has to make a big decision in his life. He has to
choose between isolation and social obligation. At first glance, this poem might denote stopping in the
woods to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Different symbols in this poem though reveal that
stop in the poem could be referring to death. In this phrase Between the woods and frozen lake , the
wood becomes a symbol of life where frozen lake signifies death. When the speaker reaches the
woods, he finds a world offering perfect, quiet and solitude, existing side by side with the realization
that there is also another world, a world of people and social obligation. Both

Symbols In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
British politician, Iain Duncan Smith once said Do not underestimate the determination of a quiet
man. Determination is one thing that can get people farther in life. It can help accomplish any job or
goal that they want to achieve. The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst is a story about a brother and his
determination. He helped his younger brother do things that everyone didn t know he could do. When
his brother, Doodle, was first born, he had been embarrassed to have a brother that could do so little.
He then decided to push his brother to do things that would surprise people. Although, others argue

The Theory Of Evolution Of Human History And Modern Thinking
Since the dawn of time, the theory of evolution has played an important role in the process of
understanding human history and modern thinking. However, this theory didn t always have an
explicit term to clarify its meaning. Philosophers embraced the ideals of knowledge and enlightenment
of reason searching for answers as to better understand the origins of mankind and how it attributes to
what it means to be human. Alongside social progress and intellectual development, fascinating new
discoveries were made through observation and experimentation, and as a result, the revolutionary
realm of science emerged to become a timeless, universally systematic phenomenon of practiced
knowledge. Thus, it was during the beginning of this scientific era, when individuals like Jean
Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin incorporated the theory of evolution as an understanding of
progressive change and development of different species over time. And so, this fresh, scientific
phenomenon allowed great thinkers examine how the notion of evolution has an influence on society
from a philosophical standpoint. Although they express differing perspectives on the subject, Gilman,
Veblen, and Freud ultimately illuminate how evolution is denoted by the development of instincts and
affected by how they are either suppressed or acted upon to attain happiness.
As a female philosopher, Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Women Economics, argues that Darwin s
theories on the process of human evolution portray the

Essay On The Movie Stagecoach
Stagecoach Film Review
I find the film Stagecoach to be a top level film of its time and a leading Western to this day, which
came to set a new standard for Western films. Stagecoach didn t stick to the norm of the time, where
Western movies were considered low grade and appealed to young boys, it exceeded people s
expectations. As Film theorist Andre Bazin wrote of Stagecoach , it is the ideal example of the
maturity of a style brought to classic perfection. Many things in Stagecoach were upgraded from
previous films of its genre, from the level that the story delves into the characters journey in the
stagecoach, to the location that it was filmed at. First of all, the story wasn t simply a good guy/bad
guy conflict, it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie you have the three basic camera angles used, which include the low angle or ground level
angle, eye level angle, and the high camera angle. The ground level angle emphasizes the seriousness
and drama of the moment. it is taken from below the character and can make a character or object look
threatening. The eye level angle is simply shot at the same level as a character is more of a normal
shot which has little effect on the viewer. Lastly, theres the high angle camera shot which is shot above
the subject and looks down upon them. It can build suspense, prevent the viewer from seeing details,
and most commonly in this film it is used to make a subject look small or weak. Most of the responses
viewers have from the different camera angles depend on the emotional content and action of a given
scene. They can be used differently in all films, but the different camera angles are commonly used for
an array of expressive purposes, which include conveying information about a character s view of the
world and accompanying emotions. The camera angle can also complicate emotional responses by
playing against our visual responses that we have with the

The Long Profile Of A River
Introduction
In this investigation, I will be investigating the changes along the long profile of a river. In order to do
this, I will be collecting data and making observations at three different points along the river; the
upper course, the middle course, and the lower course.
The river which I will be conducting my observations would be on Bartley Water. Bartley Water is a
river going through the New Forest which is located in the south of the UK, Hampshire. The source of
the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling, flowing into
Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of 40sqkm. It is a tributary
of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and clay which can change as the
river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition.
The sites which I will be investigating on are:
Site one is at Buskett s Lawn, grid reference: 309109
Site two is at Woodlands, grid reference: 325006
Site three is at Eling, grid reference: 362124
The surroundings of these areas differ at each site. Site one is mostly rural areas whereas, when it
moves onto the last site, it becomes an urban area. These will affect on the course and direction of the
river and its characteristics.
The long profile of a river describes how the characteristics of the river vary from the upper course to
the lower course. A quicker and easier way to present this idea is through a Bradshaw Model (see the

Vineland is set in California in 1984, the year of Ronald Reagan s reelection. The story details the free
spirit of rebellion of that decade through flashbacks by its characters. The novel describes the traits of
the fascistic Nixonian repression and its War on Drugs that occurred in U.S. society from the 1960s to
the 1980s. The central quest is that of a daughter for her absent mother, and while the process by
which the two are united involves an impressive accumulation of information about international
corporate practices and structures, the history of the Left in California, the effects of Reaganomics and
the War on Drugs, and the popular culture of the 1980s, there are no epistemological impasses or

The tension between satisfying our credulity and satisfying our skepticism, as David Lodge puts it
differently energises each of Fowles s first three novels. Realism can also be seen as an ancestrally
impure and precautious synthesis of history, romance and allegory; and from this point of view
character is the problematising of the relations between its consistent parts that characterize much
contemporary British fiction including Fowles s. The formal agony and hesitation co exist; with
immense formal energy and inventiveness in problematic fictions such as Doris Lessing s The Golden
Notebook, Augus Wilson s No Laughing Matters and differently in Iris Murdock s The Black Prince
as well as Fowles s The French Lieutenant s Woman. These novels carry the currently inescapable and
romance theories of insubordination. They leave the reader as Lodge has suggested with a paradox
about the relations between art and life. The reality principle is never allowed to lapse entirely indeed,
it is often involved to expose the artificiality of conventional realistic illusion....This kind of
novelistic, I am talking about referring a loyalty to both (reality and fiction) but later the orthodox

Ode On A Grecian Urn John Keats Analysis
In the poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, John Keats talks about three drawings that he sees on an ancient
urn. Throughout the poem, Keats uses rhetorical questions, imagery, and a change in tone to explain to
the readers what he sees on the urn and the feelings he is getting from the old urn s pictures. He helps
the reader understand there is a deeper meaning beneath the surface of the art and how the urn is
teaching life lessons while it stays there silent. In the first stanza lines 5 7, the poem asks what leaf
fring d legend haunts about thy shape of deities or morals or both... , and this starts off the description
of the first drawing Keats sees on the urn. The first stanza ends with multiple rhetorical questions, and
Keats uses these questions as a way to get the reader to think about the images that he is seeing. He
also personifies the urn and is asking these questions to the urn. Even though the urn cannot respond,
he still asks the questions to get the reader to start visualizing what the drawing has. There are people
present, but he s asking if they are gods or mortal people. He s asking about the woman and what is
going on between the men and the woman, and he says what wild ecstasy (line 10) referencing a party
that might be going on. Now the reader can think about the kind of relationships the men and women
had back then. It could mean they would play with one another and be in a happy mood, or it could
have been the men were chasing the women because the women were

Trading Eligible Emissions Units in the Carbon Market
Trading Eligible Emissions Units in the Carbon Market
Starting from the Kyoto protocol and culminating in the 2011 Durban agreement, world leaders have
put into motion, a coordinated effort to save the world through concerted actions by their countries to
reduce the carbon emissions. The reason for this agreement was the perspective that the world will not
survive at the rate of the present emissions. Hence, the World Congress is has no option but to act
strongly on these lines. The Kyoto protocol has extracted promises from the member nations about the
extent to which they will guarantee to reduce carbon emissions by the year 2020. The experts are
continuously calculating the impact of global warming on diverse situations in life, while the
businessmen are calculating how it will impact their strategies for the future (Alen, D.S., 2012).
In this combined endeavor to address the problem of global warming, there is now this effort to invest
strongly on the green energy sources from the sun and the wind, etc., that can safely replace the
conventional source of power, without the exploitation of the carbon product, and thereby, reduce the
carbon emissions greatly. On the other hand, carbon footprints are also enhanced greatly by the
concerted effort of the member countries to increase their forests and agricultural areas. From this was
born carbon credit (Alen, D.S., 2012).

The Red Pony Analysis
Jody s life changed from a boring farm to a life changing adventure with animals that ended up
coming very close to his heart. The Red Pony, written by John steinbeck is about a young boy named
Jody Tiflin who adventures through is life. Jody is grateful to have a pony that becomes very
important to him in the novel. However he begins to lose that pony, and go through some tough
situations. The main character Jody changes and grows from childhood to adolescence, by being
responsible for the pony, going through the death with Gabilan, and also trying to believe in Billy
through Nellie s birth. Jody becomes smarter and stronger through the novel as well.
To begin with, Jody grows and changes into adolescence by learning responsibility with the horse. It
takes a lot of work that he didn t know how to handle with the pony. An example from the book that
shows how he has lots to do now, and lots of work with the horse is, Jody carried and brushed until a
pile of dead hair lay in the stall...Each time he finished he thought it might have been done better.
(Steinbeck 13) He is now understanding the work that has to be done with the new horse. He is also
learning that he has something else to look forward to, which does prove he is changing and growing
into a new type of lifestyle. Another example from the text is showing when the pony was left in the
rain because he thought it wouldn t rain,it said, From the top of the ridge he could see Gabilan

Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls By Katha Pollitt And Silko...
In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as well as
how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from their gender.
Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of thinking, how they view
their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime. In both Katha Pollitt and Silko
s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and women and how these differences result
from society s expectations by using metaphors and life examples to explain their message to the
reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this message.
In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a boy
growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between genders in
early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in. Parents and feminist
alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. They raise their kids wanting them to be successful
at what they are expected to be good at based on their gender and the trend that has been set before
them.
In an excerpt from Pollitt s essay, she references a metaphor of the lives of boys and girls through a
doll and a truck, as well as Mars and Venus when she says, A girl with a doll and a boy with a truck
explain why men are from Mars and women are from Venus, why wives do housework and

The Main Character Of Adam Mitchell s Courageous Leadership
Courageous Leadership In the movie Courageous, the main character, Adam Mitchell, shows the
audience what a true leader looks like. He does not do so by telling us what is right and what is wrong,
he does so by living his life as an example of what a good leader and a good man should look like. He
shows us the courage that is required to live by example he shows his trust in God which shows that
he is not trying to live and lead for himself, and he shows his integrity makes him a man worth
following. Without these three characteristics, Adam Mitchell would not be the same man, and he
would not be a man worth following. The courage that Adam Mitchell shows when he is doing what is

His main moment of putting his trust in God was when he accepted his daughter s death and trusted
that God was taking care of her in heaven. If he had not trusted God like he did, he would not have
learned to trust God and act courageously like he did. His trust in God also lead to one other attribute
that helped mold him into a good leader and a good man, and that was integrity. His integrity was the
characteristic that allowed other men to follow him with a clean heart. His refusal to do what he knew
to be wrong strengthened his role as a leader every time he exercised it. The integrity needed to turn in
your best friend for dealing drugs is astounding. Even though his wife and his commanding officer
were questioning whether he should listen to his conscience, he did so any way. His integrity also
shone when he signed his resolution. The idea that he wanted to state publicly in front of everyone
who he cared about, that he was going to live his life with integrity and by honoring God is
astounding. This showed that he is a man who is worth following. This integrity is what makes him a
man worth following. Without it, he would be a leader with nowhere to lead. What is interesting in
this movie is the idea that Courageous emphasizes the fact that you cannot have just courage, just
trust, or just integrity in order to be a leader and a Godly man. If you only have courage, you will not
know what to stand for. If you only have trust,

Prompt 3: The central conflict of the book Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides is gender identity which is
shown through Calliope s struggle with determining and accepting her true gender as a hermaphrodite.
The conflict also affects other characters as it causes grief, confusion, and leads to. Calliope s first
encounter with her gender identity crisis was when she develops feelings and sexual attraction to the
Object which is stated in Jerome knew what I was, as suddenly I did, too, for the first time clearly
understood that I wasn t a girl but something in between. I knew this from how natural it had felt to
enter Rex Reese s body, how right it felt, and I knew this from the shocked expression on Jerome s
face (375). The experience of having intercourse with Jerome and fantasizing being in Rex s position
shows that Calliope isn t just a female but something in between and that adds more to her suspicion
and confusion of her actual gender. This also affects other characters as it leads up to Calliope having
a sexual relationship with the Object which reveals the Object s true feelings towards Calliope and her
actual sexuality. She also has another encounter with her gender identity when she discovers that she s
biologically a boy who had been raised as a girl. In the file by Dr. Luce, it describes Calliope s
condition with the description As the girl s gender identity was firmly established as female at that

Peyote Pros And Cons
nationwide ban of peyote, Colorado, Nevada, and Utah had already made its use illegal (Maroukis, 4).
In the town of El Reno, Oklahoma, in August of 1918, members of several tribes from around the state
joined together. Members of Arapaho, Caddo, Comanche, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Kiowa Apaches, Oto,
and Ponca tribes were all present to converse about their religious freedom being stripped from every
one of them (Maroukis, 3). Together, they configured a plan to defend their faith and practice their
religion. On October 10th of 1918, the government granted the formation of the Native American
Church of Oklahoma, or the NAC. Thus, the right to use peyote in religious ceremony, protected by

Why I Don t Go For A Run
A lot of people dislike running and the thought of getting up super early in the morning to go for a run
can seem even more daunting. However, I hold a different view because if I don t go for an early
morning run, I feel tired and terrible for the whole day. It all began in high school, when i joined Cross
country and track in my freshmen year. I really started to enjoy running and was quite good at it.
During winter break, we didn t have practices and we were supposed to run on our own. Therefore, I
used to make time to run in the evenings everyday during the break. One day on break, I was supposed
to be busy the whole day and decided that I wouldn t find time to run, so I decided to wake up early
and finish my run. This was one of the best decisions I had ever made, because It helped me
developed a good habit that i follow till this day and helps me stay healthy. That morning getting up
was hard but once I got out of the bed it was easy. I drank a glass of water and ate a banana. Since it
was winter, I also put on my gloves and a warm hat. With my bright blue shoes laced up, i left my
house and the experience I had is the reason I wake up early to run everyday. Right off the bat during
my run, it felt strange. There were no sounds of cars! It was oddly quiet except for a few birds
chirping here and there. It felt really peaceful. There was a mild fog that made the scene even more
interesting. Since it was winter the houses were decorated with Christmas lights as well

Brad Paisley and Country Music Essay
When country music began in America, there were no professional musicians. The typical musician
sang only to entertain himself, his family or at local events. There is evidence of square dance like
events as far back as the 1830s (with origins in European country dancing). At first, most country
music was either sung by itself or played on a lone fiddle or banjo. A good fiddler was a very popular
person and was often asked to perform at events ranging from weddings to cattle drives. There was no
concerted effort to preserve the songs played, but the songs that people loved lasted as they were
passed from town to town or generation to generation. Songs traveled with wandering minstrels and
soldiers as well as those who moved across the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other types of country music you might hear the accordion, the harmonica, the piano, washboards
or drums which didn t become popular till the 1960‘s but are used a lot in today‘s bands. Country
music began in music styles brought over by the European settlers. In medieval times, storytelling was
a tradition that allowed history to be recorded when few were able to read and write. When the first
British settlers came to America, they brought this tradition with them, along with songs they had
learned in Europe. The people who settled in the Appalachian Mountains and the West did not have an
easy life and their music was their only outlet. While country music began with ballads (a narrative
that is sung) and songs of the British Isles, it changed in content and personality as it grew in America.
The British songs were objective, often resembling gruesome stories. They had many themes of the
supernatural, avenging spirits, loves found and lost, and violent happenings. In America, the songs
became very subjective and personal, downplayed the supernatural, and, in songs of crimes,
emphasized the evil acts while minimizing the gore. When the songs had to do with love gone bad, the
American s ballad removed the violence and gruesomeness. The change may have been due to the
philosophy of the Southern lifestyle. Another characteristic of the American ballad is the addition of
moral ending to songs.

The Beginning Of The Twentieth Century
The beginning of the twentieth century marked a significant event not just in the changes of ideology,
technology, but also the way artists approach art. Communism and Fascism were on the rise and
technological advances held strong since the industrial revolution. However, The need for a wholesale
new approach to art in the nineteenth century arose as the traditional forms of art were borne down on
by new conditions and experiences. (21) became apparent. To satisfy this need artists took many
different approaches, but three most significant they approaches this issue involve: the rejection of
traditional art, protesting status quo, and the non western approach. Although each approach is rapidly
different from the other, they share the same bond of testing the boundary of art and at times ignoring
it completely. This resulted in artwork becoming more powerful, meaningful, and influential. At the
turn of the nineteenth century artist decided to approach art in a new way, meaning they started to
reject traditional art. Artists craved new art to better represent the new conditions and experiences that
were felt. This was described by ``The need for a wholesale new approach to art in the nineteenth

that states aspartame has undergone numerous testing and with the exception of a few slight side
effects, aspartame seems to be rather safe. The article indicated that the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC) evaluated more than 500 reports on the problems associated with aspartame. The reports
showed that two thirds of the people suffered neurological problems while one quarter of the people
suffered gastrointestinal problems. The neurological symptoms included headaches, mood alterations,
insomnia, dizziness, and fatigue. Abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting were the
gastrointestinal symptoms that people experienced. The CDC concluded that the side effects that
people reported were mild and are common in the overall public. I disagree with the conclusion that
aspartame is safe. If aspartame was truly safe there would have been no reason for people to make
reports concerning the side effects they experienced from consuming aspartame. Yes, it s true that
nothing is considered 100 percent safe, but after 500 reports were received on the consumption of
aspartame it s easy to concluded that aspartame is not safe. As with any report or study you read the
material is only as accurate as the data that backs it up. If you search the internet you will find
numerous reports, studies, and articles listing the side effects of aspartame. I can t imagine that all of

The FBI Synthesis Essay
For most kids ages five to eighteen, the school environment is where they spend most of their time.
Because of this, it is crucial for the child to believe and know that the environment they are in is safe.
What can adults do to guarantee that peace of mind? They must make sure there are no outside threats
to the children or school. This comes down to the FBI. The Federal Bureau of Investigation oversees
investigating tips given to them about potential threats. However, they let one slip through with
Nikolas Cruz and it ended in the death of fourteen children and three school staff members. Due to

it is a two step process. First comes the tip, and then the FBI must decide to investigate it proficiently.

The primary piece of legislation used to regulate telecom providers is the Telecommunication Act of
1996. This paper will examine the characteristics, and point out similarities, of telecommunications
providers and information services such as the internet. Additionally, regulation of
telecommunications and the lack of regulation for information services will be addressed. Finally,
recommendations for potential ways to regulate information services, the potential legal ramifications
of such regulation, and the technical considerations regarding the recommendations will be identified.
Background
The Telecommunications Act of 1996 was the first major overhaul of United States
telecommunications law in nearly 62 years, amending the Communications Act of 1934. This Act was
a major stepping stone towards the future of telecommunications, since this was the first time that the
Internet was included in broadcasting and spectrum allotment. One of the primary goals of the law
(Title III specifically) was to let anyone enter any communications business to let any communications
businesses compete in any market against any other. Also, the new Telecommunications Act allowed
the FCC, and Congress, to update the old and outdated Telecommunications Act of 1934.
For purposes of regulation by the Federal Communications Commission under the U.S.

The State Song Of Kansas And The Musical Of The American West
Home on the Range, the state song of Kansas and the musical embodiment of the American West.
With its original composition dated in the early 1870 s and continued popularity around campfires
today, this song offers listeners a chance to remember the true West a land where the buffalo roam, and
the deer and the antelope play... and the skies are not cloudy all day. This song describes a beautiful,
open frontier where humanity admires nature and the two live in harmony with one another. An area
full of wild animals and natural landscapes alongside cowboys and farmers. With this song in mind,
people of the past and present may envision wilderness alongside tranquility, a place characterized by
its mutually beneficial relationship with the land. Although many envision the 19th century American
frontier as an open land full of forests, plains, buffalo, cowboys, and Indians, the actual American
frontier was a large industrial system blinded by capital that relied on the exploitation of the natural
world, technology to transform this nature into capital, and trains to link together this vast industrial
frontier. As Dr. Higley wrote the poem that became Home on the Range, the American industrial
frontier simultaneously began to render the roaming buffalo extinct. At the same time, Americans
depleted and exploited other native animals and natural lands, turning nature into capital and paving
the way for the American industrial frontier. The depletion of America s

Ernest Hemingway s Experiences
Hemingway used his written work as a depiction of his own life experiences in a number of ways.
Like many other author s he uses his stories and his poems to show his life. In stories such as Soldier s
Home , A Farewell to Arms, and In Another Country he portrays the characters as a reflection of
himself. In each of these examples Hemingway explains multiple different aspects of his own life
including, his life prior, during, after the war, and his love of a woman named Agnes. Although these
stories aren t exact descriptions of his life, they can be interpreted as depictions of his experiences. In
the story titled, In Another Country , Hemingway speaks with an Italian major at a hospital. He uses
the character named Nick to portray his own self. One example of this is My knee did not bend and
the leg dropped straight from the knee to the ankle without a calf, and the machine was to bend the
knee and make it move as riding a tricycle. But it did not bend yet, and instead the machine lurched
when it came to the bending part. (Hemingway, Ernest. In Another Country. ) Hemingway uses this to
depict his own real life leg injury that he went through when fighting in war. Another example in this
story is when Hemingway has his character talk to the Italian Major. He conveys his own message
through him speaking with the man. Why must not a man marry? He cannot marry. He cannot marry,
he said angrily. If he is to lose everything, he should not place himself in a

Timeless And Timelessness In Literature
One theme in literature, and British literature alike, is timelessness. Many pieces that are famous have
been passed down through generations and readers all over the world still relate to it through love or
comedy. Two works that capture timelessness and universality are A Valediction: Forbidding
Mourning written by John Donne and Much Ado About Nothing written by William Shakespeare.
What often draws people to literature is raw emotion. A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning perfectly
fits the raw emotion and timelessness with true love. This poem by John Donne captivates readers
imaginations through his idea of love extending past death and the eternal love of two people. Love
songs and love stories endure time because they are always relevant because love is always relevant.
Donne s poem can be used in a variety of situations and has endured because of the sweetness and
vulnerability of it. Donne writes, Thy firmness makes my circle just, / And makes me end where I
begun, (Donne 35 36). These lines are one part of a conceit that likens his and his wife s love to a
compass and that she completes him. If people are in love, romantic gestures and nice words can make
the love grow stronger, so the message of Donne continues to be passed on through people in love.
Poems like this make hearts swell and, on the education side, use many aspects of figurative language.
A Valediction continues being taught because of the beautiful use of language and metaphors and how

Violations can be treated the same whether the employee violated the code, or if an employee is aware
of a violation and does not inform the company. Disciplinary action if defined as termination, without
notice or payment in lieu of such notice...may also result in civil and/or criminal proceedings being
initiated. (Code of Conduct, 2013, p. 5) Both violations, and the result of committing a violation, seem
vague in relation to the operations of the business and what instances result in a violation.
Clarification of disciplinary action such as probation, suspension, demotion, reduction in pay could be
examples depending upon the company policy that could be added to the Code of Conduct.
Additionally, justification should be added of how serious is a violation or, more importantly what are
the effects of a violation? Not only is a violation a personal consequence, but the consequences for the
company should also be included within the code such as the company s image to the community,
customers and other stakeholders. The Code of Conduct should ultimately relate back to the good of
the company as well as the risks that could include the business. Fraud, unethical or improper
behavior is strongly discouraged throughout the Code of Conduct, and very well should be. In fact, the
Code of Conduct lists nine items in which the any employee should not do. Most people do not

The Truth And Reconciliation Commission ( Trc )
Introduction
Between the years of 1870 and 1996, more than 150,000 indigenous children were forcibly removed
from their communities, and sent to Indian residential schools. Generation after generation of
indigenous children were denied the right to speak their own language, explore spirituality and to
learn about their rich cultural history. These schools were designed to assimilate indigenous children
into the society of the European settlers. It was under that system that Aboriginal children were
required to attend schools that would take the Indian out of the child, in hopes to solve the Indian
problem .
On June 2nd, 2008, nearly 20 years after the last residential school closed, The Truth and
Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed in response to the legacy left behind by the Indian
residential school system. The TRC is not a government appointed commission that was created to
negotiate legal counsel for surviving students, involved churches, the Assembly of First Nations, as
well as the Canadian government. However, the main objective was to allow victims of the schools to
be acknowledge, have their stories shared, and be accepted.
Residential School History
Assimilation was the goal of European settlers, even before confederation in 1867. In 1857, the
Gradual Civilization Act was passed by the Legislature of the Province of Canada with the aim of
assimilating First Nations people. Through out Canadian history, non aboriginals have gained control

  • 3. Most Significant Development In Human History There are three distinctive theories of the most significant development in the human history and those are, Olduwan tools, hunting, and fire. Even though Olduwan tools giving access and the ability for early humans to hunt in groups, the most significant factor I believe is fire. It is because, fire gave the ability to early humans to cook raw meats in return, gave access to better nutrition and easier ability to break down food which helped with further evolution of human physiology. The importance fire can first be seen in the biological standpoint. Evidence shows nutrition that the cooked meat gave versus the raw meat through increased size of the brain. According to Adler (2013), the human body burns energy at a significant rate for heart, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cooked food gave the early human advantage of consume food that were easier to digest because, the cooked food alters food in three important ways. First, it breaks starch molecules into more digestible fragments, it denatures protein molecules, and the heat physically softens food (N.A, 2009). This gave the early humans spend more time on doing variety of different things rather than spend hours at a time chewing on food which won t give time to develop intelligence. Also the soft food gave change in human structure with smaller teeth and jaws which gave more accessibility to brain size. Another factor that increased the intelligence of early human is attempting to create a controlled fire which further gave the ability to travel to the region that was colder than the continent of origin Africa. The tools and hunting might have given the early humans the ability to access the food. However, all the evidence points to the fact that the significance of fire and how it helped the early humans to develop intelligence, consumption of food that was higher in nutrient and the ability to travel to different region that was cold at the tide due to the ice shelfs across the Northern parts of the ... • 4. Lady Bird Johnson, And Jacqueline Kennedy The first lady is an unpaid public servant elected by one person her husband. Lady Bird Johnson. First ladies tend to be looked upon as simply public figures or as support for the president. Not many recognize the sacrifice first ladies make for their country, or the work they have been volunteered to carry out. Their jobs are much more than living in the White House, selecting the proper china for certain company, or memorizing the names of the many wives of certain foreign leaders. Much on the contrary, the first lady has political significance and each has made their mark on society. Five examples are first ladies Hillary Rodham Clinton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosalynn Carter, Claudia (Lady Bird) Johnson, and Jacqueline Kennedy. Former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton is known throughout the world for the astounding things she has accomplished, not only in the White House, but out. She is full of passion for whatever she sets as her goal. Her confidence and constant motivational talks set a crowd on fire and her vision for the future leaves most encouraged for they know that she s on their side. She is constantly aware of what others think of her and works her hardest to make the world a better place and gain the trust of the people. • 5. Life Choices in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken and... Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening both portray weighing of choices in life. The former is about youth and experiencing life and the latter is about old age, or more probably, an old spirit wearied by life. In both poems the speaker is in a critical situation where he has to choose between two paths in life. In The Road Not taken the speaker chooses the unconventional approach to the decision making process, thus showing his uniqueness and challenging mentality while in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening the speaker seeks a life without any pain and struggle but at the end, he has to comply with social obligation, which reflects his responsibility towards the society. In the poem, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By choosing the harder path, the speaker declares his rebellion against the popular opinion as represented by the other road. He decides not to conform to society and takes up a less popular choice. When considering his choices the speaker shows the typical human reaction. He considers taking both paths at first. He says, Oh I kept the first for another day , but later confesses he doubted if [he] should ever come back (13 15). Thus the poem s significance lies in the speakers making a decision by choosing a road and moving on with his life. The act of choosing the road represents his uniqueness and the fact that he is always moving forward, even without stopping. Like The Road Not Taken , in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , the speaker has to make a big decision in his life. He has to choose between isolation and social obligation. At first glance, this poem might denote stopping in the woods to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Different symbols in this poem though reveal that stop in the poem could be referring to death. In this phrase Between the woods and frozen lake , the wood becomes a symbol of life where frozen lake signifies death. When the speaker reaches the woods, he finds a world offering perfect, quiet and solitude, existing side by side with the realization that there is also another world, a world of people and social obligation. • 7. The Theory Of Evolution Of Human History And Modern Thinking Since the dawn of time, the theory of evolution has played an important role in the process of understanding human history and modern thinking. However, this theory didn t always have an explicit term to clarify its meaning. Philosophers embraced the ideals of knowledge and enlightenment of reason searching for answers as to better understand the origins of mankind and how it attributes to what it means to be human. Alongside social progress and intellectual development, fascinating new discoveries were made through observation and experimentation, and as a result, the revolutionary realm of science emerged to become a timeless, universally systematic phenomenon of practiced knowledge. Thus, it was during the beginning of this scientific era, when individuals like Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin incorporated the theory of evolution as an understanding of progressive change and development of different species over time. And so, this fresh, scientific phenomenon allowed great thinkers examine how the notion of evolution has an influence on society from a philosophical standpoint. Although they express differing perspectives on the subject, Gilman, Veblen, and Freud ultimately illuminate how evolution is denoted by the development of instincts and affected by how they are either suppressed or acted upon to attain happiness. As a female philosopher, Charlotte Perkins Gilman s Women Economics, argues that Darwin s theories on the process of human evolution portray the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On The Movie Stagecoach Stagecoach Film Review I find the film Stagecoach to be a top level film of its time and a leading Western to this day, which came to set a new standard for Western films. Stagecoach didn t stick to the norm of the time, where Western movies were considered low grade and appealed to young boys, it exceeded people s expectations. As Film theorist Andre Bazin wrote of Stagecoach , it is the ideal example of the maturity of a style brought to classic perfection. Many things in Stagecoach were upgraded from previous films of its genre, from the level that the story delves into the characters journey in the stagecoach, to the location that it was filmed at. In the movie you have the three basic camera angles used, which include the low angle or ground level angle, eye level angle, and the high camera angle. The ground level angle emphasizes the seriousness and drama of the moment. it is taken from below the character and can make a character or object look threatening. The eye level angle is simply shot at the same level as a character is more of a normal shot which has little effect on the viewer. Lastly, theres the high angle camera shot which is shot above the subject and looks down upon them. It can build suspense, prevent the viewer from seeing details, and most commonly in this film it is used to make a subject look small or weak. Most of the responses viewers have from the different camera angles depend on the emotional content and action of a given scene. They can be used differently in all films, but the different camera angles are commonly used for an array of expressive purposes, which include conveying information about a character s view of the world and accompanying emotions. The camera angle can also complicate emotional responses by playing against our visual responses that we have with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Long Profile Of A River Introduction In this investigation, I will be investigating the changes along the long profile of a river. In order to do this, I will be collecting data and making observations at three different points along the river; the upper course, the middle course, and the lower course. The river which I will be conducting my observations would be on Bartley Water. Bartley Water is a river going through the New Forest which is located in the south of the UK, Hampshire. The source of the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling, flowing into Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of 40sqkm. It is a tributary of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and clay which can change as the river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition. The sites which I will be investigating on are: Site one is at Buskett s Lawn, grid reference: 309109 Site two is at Woodlands, grid reference: 325006 Site three is at Eling, grid reference: 362124 The surroundings of these areas differ at each site. Site one is mostly rural areas whereas, when it moves onto the last site, it becomes an urban area. These will affect on the course and direction of the river and its characteristics. The long profile of a river describes how the characteristics of the river vary from the upper course to the lower course. Our next projects include: the addition of a softball field and club house, making the football field all turf, a new weight lifting facility, and a new building for our high school. We look forward to our Knights Family, growing in size, while you are apart of it. Lastly, my fellow coaches and I have come up with a mission statement and bible verse that will represent our goal for our student athletes. • 12. A Free Spirit of Rebellion, Mason and Dixon Show... Vineland is set in California in 1984, the year of Ronald Reagan s reelection. The story details the free spirit of rebellion of that decade through flashbacks by its characters. The novel describes the traits of the fascistic Nixonian repression and its War on Drugs that occurred in U.S. society from the 1960s to the 1980s. The central quest is that of a daughter for her absent mother, and while the process by which the two are united involves an impressive accumulation of information about international corporate practices and structures, the history of the Left in California, the effects of Reaganomics and the War on Drugs, and the popular culture of the 1980s, there are no epistemological impasses or withheld revelations (Hite 719). ... • 13. Ode On A Grecian Urn John Keats Analysis In the poem Ode on a Grecian Urn, John Keats talks about three drawings that he sees on an ancient urn. Throughout the poem, Keats uses rhetorical questions, imagery, and a change in tone to explain to the readers what he sees on the urn and the feelings he is getting from the old urn s pictures. He helps the reader understand there is a deeper meaning beneath the surface of the art and how the urn is teaching life lessons while it stays there silent. In the first stanza lines 5 7, the poem asks what leaf fring d legend haunts about thy shape of deities or morals or both... , and this starts off the description of the first drawing Keats sees on the urn. The first stanza ends with multiple rhetorical questions, and Keats uses these questions as a way to get the reader to think about the images that he is seeing. He also personifies the urn and is asking these questions to the urn. Even though the urn cannot respond, he still asks the questions to get the reader to start visualizing what the drawing has. There are people present, but he s asking if they are gods or mortal people. He s asking about the woman and what is going on between the men and the woman, and he says what wild ecstasy (line 10) referencing a party that might be going on. • 16. Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls By Katha Pollitt And Silko... In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as well as how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from their gender. Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of thinking, how they view their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime. In both Katha Pollitt and Silko s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and women and how these differences result from society s expectations by using metaphors and life examples to explain their message to the reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this message. In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a boy growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between genders in early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in. Parents and feminist alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. They raise their kids wanting them to be successful at what they are expected to be good at based on their gender and the trend that has been set before them. In an excerpt from Pollitt s essay, she references a metaphor of the lives of boys and girls through a doll and a truck, as well as Mars and Venus when she says, A girl with a doll and a boy with a truck explain why men are from Mars and women are from Venus, why wives do housework and ... His main moment of putting his trust in God was when he accepted his daughter s death and trusted that God was taking care of her in heaven. If he had not trusted God like he did, he would not have learned to trust God and act courageously like he did. His trust in God also lead to one other attribute that helped mold him into a good leader and a good man, and that was integrity. His integrity was the characteristic that allowed other men to follow him with a clean heart. His refusal to do what he knew to be wrong strengthened his role as a leader every time he exercised it. The integrity needed to turn in your best friend for dealing drugs is astounding. Even though his wife and his commanding officer were questioning whether he should listen to his conscience, he did so any way. His integrity also shone when he signed his resolution. The idea that he wanted to state publicly in front of everyone who he cared about, that he was going to live his life with integrity and by honoring God is astounding. This showed that he is a man who is worth following. This integrity is what makes him a man worth following. Without it, he would be a leader with nowhere to lead. What is interesting in this movie is the idea that Courageous emphasizes the fact that you cannot have just courage, just trust, or just integrity in order to be a leader and a Godly man. However, I hold a different view because if I don t go for an early morning run, I feel tired and terrible for the whole day. It all began in high school, when i joined Cross country and track in my freshmen year. I really started to enjoy running and was quite good at it. During winter break, we didn t have practices and we were supposed to run on our own. Therefore, I used to make time to run in the evenings everyday during the break. One day on break, I was supposed to be busy the whole day and decided that I wouldn t find time to run, so I decided to wake up early and finish my run. This was one of the best decisions I had ever made, because It helped me developed a good habit that i follow till this day and helps me stay healthy. That morning getting up was hard but once I got out of the bed it was easy. I drank a glass of water and ate a banana. Since it was winter, I also put on my gloves and a warm hat. With my bright blue shoes laced up, i left my house and the experience I had is the reason I wake up early to run everyday. Right off the bat during my run, it felt strange. The typical musician sang only to entertain himself, his family or at local events. There is evidence of square dance like events as far back as the 1830s (with origins in European country dancing). At first, most country music was either sung by itself or played on a lone fiddle or banjo. A good fiddler was a very popular person and was often asked to perform at events ranging from weddings to cattle drives. In other types of country music you might hear the accordion, the harmonica, the piano, washboards or drums which didn t become popular till the 1960‘s but are used a lot in today‘s bands. Country music began in music styles brought over by the European settlers. In medieval times, storytelling was a tradition that allowed history to be recorded when few were able to read and write. When the first British settlers came to America, they brought this tradition with them, along with songs they had learned in Europe. The people who settled in the Appalachian Mountains and the West did not have an easy life and their music was their only outlet. While country music began with ballads (a narrative that is sung) and songs of the British Isles, it changed in content and personality as it grew in America. The British songs were objective, often resembling gruesome stories. They had many themes of the supernatural, avenging spirits, loves found and lost, and violent happenings. In America, the songs became very subjective and personal, downplayed the supernatural, and, in songs of crimes, emphasized the evil acts while minimizing the gore. When the songs had to do with love gone bad, the American s ballad removed the violence and gruesomeness. The change may have been due to the philosophy of the Southern lifestyle. Another characteristic of the American ballad is the addition of moral ending to songs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The State Song Of Kansas And The Musical Of The American West Home on the Range, the state song of Kansas and the musical embodiment of the American West. With its original composition dated in the early 1870 s and continued popularity around campfires today, this song offers listeners a chance to remember the true West a land where the buffalo roam, and the deer and the antelope play... and the skies are not cloudy all day. This song describes a beautiful, open frontier where humanity admires nature and the two live in harmony with one another. An area full of wild animals and natural landscapes alongside cowboys and farmers. With this song in mind, people of the past and present may envision wilderness alongside tranquility, a place characterized by its mutually beneficial relationship with the land. Although many envision the 19th century American frontier as an open land full of forests, plains, buffalo, cowboys, and Indians, the actual American frontier was a large industrial system blinded by capital that relied on the exploitation of the natural world, technology to transform this nature into capital, and trains to link together this vast industrial frontier. As Dr. Higley wrote the poem that became Home on the Range, the American industrial frontier simultaneously began to render the roaming buffalo extinct. At the same time, Americans depleted and exploited other native animals and natural lands, turning nature into capital and paving the way for the American industrial frontier. The depletion of America s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Ernest Hemingway s Experiences Hemingway used his written work as a depiction of his own life experiences in a number of ways. Like many other author s he uses his stories and his poems to show his life. In stories such as Soldier s Home , A Farewell to Arms, and In Another Country he portrays the characters as a reflection of himself. In each of these examples Hemingway explains multiple different aspects of his own life including, his life prior, during, after the war, and his love of a woman named Agnes. Although these stories aren t exact descriptions of his life, they can be interpreted as depictions of his experiences. In the story titled, In Another Country , Hemingway speaks with an Italian major at a hospital. He uses the character named Nick to portray his own self. One example of this is My knee did not bend and the leg dropped straight from the knee to the ankle without a calf, and the machine was to bend the knee and make it move as riding a tricycle. But it did not bend yet, and instead the machine lurched when it came to the bending part. (Hemingway, Ernest. In Another Country. ) Hemingway uses this to depict his own real life leg injury that he went through when fighting in war. Another example in this story is when Hemingway has his character talk to the Italian Major. He conveys his own message through him speaking with the man. Why must not a man marry? He cannot marry. He cannot marry, he said angrily. If he is to lose everything, he should not place himself in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Timeless And Timelessness In Literature One theme in literature, and British literature alike, is timelessness. Many pieces that are famous have been passed down through generations and readers all over the world still relate to it through love or comedy. Two works that capture timelessness and universality are A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning written by John Donne and Much Ado About Nothing written by William Shakespeare. What often draws people to literature is raw emotion. A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning perfectly fits the raw emotion and timelessness with true love. This poem by John Donne captivates readers imaginations through his idea of love extending past death and the eternal love of two people. Love songs and love stories endure time because they are always relevant because love is always relevant. Donne s poem can be used in a variety of situations and has endured because of the sweetness and vulnerability of it. Donne writes, Thy firmness makes my circle just, / And makes me end where I begun, (Donne 35 36). These lines are one part of a conceit that likens his and his wife s love to a compass and that she completes him. If people are in love, romantic gestures and nice words can make the love grow stronger, so the message of Donne continues to be passed on through people in love. Poems like this make hearts swell and, on the education side, use many aspects of figurative language. A Valediction continues being taught because of the beautiful use of language and metaphors and how Donne ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Code Of Conduct Review And Suggestions Memorandum To: Board of Directors CC: Sean Grey (sean_grey@usc.salvationarmy.org), Lee Harrington (lee_harrington@usc.salvationarmy.org), whistleblower_hotline@can.salvationarmy.org From: Jalenne Olmstead Date: 2/17/2016 Re: Code of Conduct Review and Suggestions In reviewing the code of conduct of Salvation Army, there are many strengths that promote the honesty and integrity of the business. However, there are some weaknesses that as an employee, the Board of Directors could expand and clarify. The policies of Salvation Army, behavior in the workplace, and violations are explicit by definition and support the best interest of the company. Throughout the code, employees, officers and volunteers are all included on the same level when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Violations can be treated the same whether the employee violated the code, or if an employee is aware of a violation and does not inform the company. Disciplinary action if defined as termination, without notice or payment in lieu of such notice...may also result in civil and/or criminal proceedings being initiated. (Code of Conduct, 2013, p. 5) Both violations, and the result of committing a violation, seem vague in relation to the operations of the business and what instances result in a violation. Clarification of disciplinary action such as probation, suspension, demotion, reduction in pay could be examples depending upon the company policy that could be added to the Code of Conduct. Additionally, justification should be added of how serious is a violation or, more importantly what are the effects of a violation? Not only is a violation a personal consequence, but the consequences for the company should also be included within the code such as the company s image to the community, customers and other stakeholders. The Code of Conduct should ultimately relate back to the good of the company as well as the risks that could include the business. Fraud, unethical or improper behavior is strongly discouraged throughout the Code of Conduct, and very well should be. In fact, the Code of Conduct lists nine items in which the any employee should not do. Most people do not respond well to a list of what not to do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Truth And Reconciliation Commission ( Trc ) Introduction Between the years of 1870 and 1996, more than 150,000 indigenous children were forcibly removed from their communities, and sent to Indian residential schools. Generation after generation of indigenous children were denied the right to speak their own language, explore spirituality and to learn about their rich cultural history. These schools were designed to assimilate indigenous children into the society of the European settlers. It was under that system that Aboriginal children were required to attend schools that would take the Indian out of the child, in hopes to solve the Indian problem . On June 2nd, 2008, nearly 20 years after the last residential school closed, The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was formed in response to the legacy left behind by the Indian residential school system. The TRC is not a government appointed commission that was created to negotiate legal counsel for surviving students, involved churches, the Assembly of First Nations, as well as the Canadian government. However, the main objective was to allow victims of the schools to be acknowledge, have their stories shared, and be accepted. Residential School History Assimilation was the goal of European settlers, even before confederation in 1867. In 1857, the Gradual Civilization Act was passed by the Legislature of the Province of Canada with the aim of assimilating First Nations people.
