MELAS Syndrome is a mitochondrial cytopathy characterized by mitochondrial encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes. Sensorineural hearing loss is a frequent symptom, occurring in 44-75% of patients. The document discusses the role of otologists in diagnosing and managing MELAS, including screening all patients for hearing loss and following up regularly as hearing loss is a cardinal feature and patients require multidisciplinary treatment and guidance.

Medulloblastoma- A primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) is the most common malignant brain tumor of childhood (WHO IV) arising from the vermis in the inferior medullary velum. It comprises up to 18% of all pediatric brain tumors. WNT and Shh pathway plays major role in its pathogenesis. c-erbB-2 (HER2/neu) oncogene expression has prognostic value. Norcantharidin, Vismodegib, Sonidegib are the future in medulloblastoma.

Sola Background Cavernous angiomas are vascular malformations which rarely involve the cavities of the lateral ventricles. Knowledge of the specific clinical and neurora- diological features displayed by these lesions is limited by the scarcity of patients included in the reported series. Objective and methods The aim of this study was to compile and analyse the epidemiological, clinical, neurora- diological and surgical characteristics of these lesions as provided by the well-described examples reported in the scientific literature. A total of 49 were gathered, including three patients operated on recently in our Department. Findings and conclusions Cavernomas developing within the ventricular cavities attain a larger size than parenchymal counterpart lesions, causing symptoms and signs derived mainly from the mass effect. The characteristic parenchymal hypointense rim is less frequently identified on T2- weighted echo-gradient MRI sequences. Total surgical excision is the treatment of choice for these lesions, yet the surgical routes employed may still be associated with a high rate of neurological complications. Transcriptional Profiling Peripheral Blood is a means to provide a gene signature to monitor this state of TOL, to titrate IS in patients with this signature, and to better understand the underlying biology.
