   Interpersonal relation
   Motivational management
   Platform for exchange of views
   Avoids misconceptions
   Altering individuals attitude
Reasons for breakdown of the communication
   Organizational structure
   Perception of the people
   Lack of transparency
Common elements in the communication break down
   Rumours
   Misinformation
   Misinterpretation
   Inadequate information
o   City hospital at loss
       labour related costs

o   5th floor was targeted
       The floor remained half empty
       Uncooperative group who were set in their ways
       Quality of care provided in 5th floor
       Lily joe-least effective of the hospital’s nursing managers

o   Complicating factors
      Reassignment policy rather than lay off

o   Meetings
     Conducted by the       assistant head of nursing, director of
     personnel, director of public relations and labour relations
     consultant
o The plans
    • Deputy head of nursing and director in charge of personnel-
    provide the staff with the details either about their move to other
    units or about the severance package-general meeting-CMO and
    CAO-director general-departmental meetings

o Reaction of the CAO and CMO negatively to the plan
    • Inadequate information about the exact number of people would

 There should be transparency in the organization. The employees have
the right to know what is going on in their working place
 Formal communication before any conflicts occurs due to the informal
way of communication like grapevine
 In some cases, employees should also be included in the decision
making process. As they also form one of the important asset of
organization, their opinions should also be taken into consideration
On the part of employees
 Inadequacy is the feature of informal type of communication so its not
always right to rely on the information which is incomplete that may cause
misconception
“Communication within any organization can be improved, no matter

how big or small. It is a key business enabler but one that is complex

to get right and is as much dependent on the business culture than

the tools utilized”

The employees have the right to know what is going on in their working place  Formal communication before any conflicts occurs due to the informal way of communication like grapevine  In some cases, employees should also be included in the decision making process. As they also form one of the important asset of organization, their opinions should also be taken into consideration On the part of employees  Inadequacy is the feature of informal type of communication so its not always right to rely on the information which is incomplete that may cause misconception
