The Most Popular Teams Hail From The Northwest
The Sounders played the timbers for the first time on may 2nd, 1975, a 1 0 victory for the sounders
that would start the most heated and bitter rivalry in all of American soccer. The Seattle sounders, the
larger team from the larger city averages an average 43,000 in attendance for the home games, a
continent high and a respectable amount even in europe s most prestigious leagues. Compared to
portlands smaller 20,000 average in a smaller venues and a more modest market. The fact that two of
the MLS s most popular teams hail from the northwest is no surprise as soccer is more popular here
than anywhere else in the US. Aside from popularity the Timbers and Sounders have the success to
match, both relatively new teams to the mls, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this strays from why they dislike each other, it about who is better, more about who is the best in
the northwest. The Seattle sounders have huge infrastructure for the expression of their fans, from
huge tifo s created by ECS to mock the timbers, to the march to the match closing down some
downtown seattle streets just to show that the fans are willing and able to. When your team can
average more fans than Chelsea, the premier league s reigning champion, you have something to be
proud of. The Timbers would argue so what, you have more people, but the atmosphere in our city is
something you could never match. At any home timbers game you can hear the constant chanting and
the green smoke and streamers exploding from the timbers army section. They would say that no fans
are as dedicated as theirs. One way the two fanbases each compete off the pitch is in Tifo s, these are
huge hand painted images on canvas by the supporters for each game. They will mostly contain some
form of taunting to the other team, Seattle and Portland are two of the only teams in the MLS who
create these because of the fan man hours and effort they take to create. The seattle Sounders main fan
group is the ECS, the emerald city supporters, based in bars around seattle and has membership in the
high hundreds, taking up most of the south lower stand they are known for their loud chants and the
atmosphere they create in Centurylink Stadium

The Effects Of Natural Resources On The Environment
Since the Industrial Revolution, natural resources have been under increasing pressure. The significant
changes in the amount of natural resources we have left have led to many issues, such as global public
health and global development. Other areas affected include the loss of forest, water and air pollution,
decrease in fresh water supply and degradation of soil. Today we are currently seeing dramatic
increases in global population. As the world s population continues to rise, natural resources will
continue to dwindle as long as we remain the same. The one thing that I would say is the most
challenging for humans is being able to advance in life, but still not destroy the environment. If you
look at most developed countries, it is evident that they consume resources way more rapidly than
developing countries. The problem with this is that all of these countries are consuming faster than
they can produce. Places like Africa and Asia are experiencing population momentum. These areas
have a tendency for population growth that continues to grow because of the high concentration of
people having kids. Better living conditions are definitely needed in these countries because of the
limited amount of resources being consumed by these regions. The over exploitation of these
resources will eventually lead to problems for future uses. As population increases, the need to expand
becomes more evident. The huge consumption and need for more food, land, water, and energy have

President Roosevelt s Cognitive Style
Cognitive style does not deal strictly with how intelligent a president is. Arguably, all presidents
possess a high degree of intelligence. Rather, it concerns how presidents can process information from
different sources and understand political scenarios (Greenstein). This primarily comes from a
president s prior work, background, and IQ. FDR was highly intelligent; he graduated from Harvard
College with a degree in history. During his years at Harvard, FDR was well versed in the subject of
economics. He took more credits in economics than any subject except in history and english
(Schlesinger). Additionally, Roosevelt was not new at all in the field of politics. He was a member of
the New York State Senate, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and governor of New York prior to
becoming the 32nd president of the United States. These experiences provided Roosevelt with the
skills to think critically and process situations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Prior to even obtaining the Democratic nomination, FDR gathered a group of scholars to help advise

the start of FDR s administration, this group consisted of Raymond Moley, political scientist, Rexford

The Theme Of Empathy And Fear In Ruthless
In many stories, parallels to the real world can be seen. This is a way to connect the reader to
characters or situations in the novel, making a false story seem more realistic. In the book Ruthless by
Carolyn Lee Adams, a 17 year old girl named Ruth was kidnapped by a man named Jerry. He took
Ruth to the woods and though she managed to escape him, she still remained lost in the woods with no
way to get home. With Jerry at her heels, she plotted ways to escape the woods, but that didn t stop the
fear of being recaptured to continue to loom over her. The growing lack of empathy and fear
throughout Ruthless, are two real world concepts that were incorporated into this novel as a parallel to
our society.
The fear that Ruth feels throughout the story resembles the fear that many people feel due to terrorist
attacks today. In the story, Ruth is in constant fear for her life because she is lost in the woods with a
man that wants to kill her. While struggling to figure out how she was going to escape the woods,
Ruth expressed, All I have now is rage. But somewhere, hiding underneath it, is fear (Adams 84).
Ruth still feels fear because even though she escaped Jerry s captivity, she s still lost in the woods, and
and she knows there s a very good chance of him finding her and killing her as he planned. Similar to
the fear portrayed in the book, many people today have a fear of terrorism. An article on hate crimes
against Muslims states, Incidents targeting Muslims increased each of the last several years after
fluctuating for a decade following a strong spike in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.(1)
According to statistics, hate crimes against Muslims were very low prior to 9/11, but they reached an
all time high once the attacks took place. In the years that followed, the hate crimes kept a common
trend of occurring about 5 6 times as much as they had before 9/11. The fact that Muslims went from
hardly being attacked before the attacks to having almost 500 hate crimes against them in 2001,
showed that many of their attackers were motivated by their fear of more potential attacks.
The lack of empathy shown in the story by both the kidnapper and the couple living in the woods,
paralleled the

The Purpose Of The Milgram Experiment
The Milgram Experiment is one of the most famous studies in psychology. It was carried out by
Stanley Milgram, a psychologist from Yale University. The purpose of the experiment was to study
how far people would go in obeying an instruction from an authority figure if it involved hurting
another person. Milgram wanted to study whether Germans were more obedient to authority as this
was what people believed was the main reason for Nazi killings in World War II. 40 males were
chosen to participate in the study, and were paid $4.50 for attending. The experiment was carried out
as follows: participants were introduced to a partner, although they were all actors the pairs drew
straws to see who was going to be acting as a learner, and who would be acting as a teacher. This part
of the experiment was rigged so the unknowing participants would always be the teacher the pairs
were split up into seperate rooms where the learner was strapped to an electric chair the learner has
already learned a list of word pairs that were given to him, and the teacher tests them by naming a
word and asking the learner to recall its pair. the teacher was told to give an electric shock every time
the learned made a mistake. There was a different voltage of shock each time, ranging from 15 to 450
volts. The teacher did not know, but the shocks were not actually administered. The learner made
mistakes on purpose, and faked harm when they were electrocuted . If the teacher did not want to

How Literacy Affected My Life
How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to
progressing all the way to thick chapter books and lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and
incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure
because of exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an
elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events including the Accelerated Reader
program and discovering my favorite childhood book series. My literacy narrative first unfolded in the
playroom of my childhood home when I was an inquisitive two year old. My parents would sit down

Jones. Throughout my elementary school years, I became particularly involved in the Accelerated
Reader program offered at my school where students were able to earn points by reading books. Not to
mention, students that had high amounts of points were eligible to earn prizes, which of course caught
my attention. This program gave me a greater appreciation for literacy, motivated me to read
constantly, and quite frankly, brought out my competitive side. In the same way, another event that
molded my literacy experience, was when the Junie B. Jones book series was placed into my hands
because it quickly became my favorite childhood series. As I read the series, I constantly found myself
spontaneously laughing out loud as I read because of the hilarity of the carefree character, Junie B.
Jones. This series marked an enormous milestone in my literacy adventure because it was not only my
favorite childhood series, but it was actually the first series I ever read and led to me discovering
numerous other series that I still revel in today. Overall, these events have been key to forming the
entirety of my literacy

The Suspense And Surprise In And Then There Were None
The suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None
Suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None Every well written murder mystery does not
have fixed features because the writers of detective story always want to give their readers a unique
feeling, but suspense and surprise are essential and indispensable. (Alewyn 184) In Agatha Christie s
And Then There Were None, she fully combines suspense and surprise through the omniscient point of
view and poignant plot. Therefore, And Then There Were None is a well written murder mystery. The
omniscient point of view means a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows the thoughts and
feelings of all of the characters in the story. (Abrams 233) Plot is the series of events that form the
story of a novel, play, and film (Abrams 294). I will show the suspense and surprise through the
analysis of narrative, rising action, climax, and falling action as well as use specific textual evidence
from this fiction novel to prove it. In And Then There Were None, The writer uses the omniscient
point of view to describe characters. In other words, she uses God s perspective to ... Show more

atmosphere in the whole plot. At the end of this story, readers still stay in confusion until a fishing
trawler finds Mr. Justice Wargrave s manuscript document and indicate that Mr. Justice Wargrave is

The Law Of Unfair Terms Of Consumer Contracts
The law of unfair terms in consumer contracts have experienced changes over the years, the most
significant of which was the Consumer Rights Act which came into effect on October 1st 2015.
However, before the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA 2015), unfair terms in consumer contracts were
covered under two pieces of legislation; the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977(UCTA 1977) and the
Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (UTCCR 1999) . The UCTA 1977 and
UTCCR 1999 provided liability for transactions occurring in the course of a business as well as
business and consumer contracts. Both UCTA 1977 and UTCCR 1999 provided protection for
consumers from terms in a contract so as to prevent them from being at a disadvantage for not read
contractual terms and conditions. The UCTA 1977 defined a consumer under s.12 (1) (a); as a party
dealing not in the course of a business and not holding himself to do so; while in s12 (1) (b) the other
party is acting in the course of a business. The UTCCR s definition was very narrow, Regulation 3
stated that a consumer must be a natural person that is not a legal person e.g. a company who contracts
outside his business.
The UCTA 1977 was a primary legislative whereas the UTCCR 1999 are an implementation of the
European Court s Directive on Unfair terms in Consumer Contracts. Both the UCTA and UTCCR
covered nearly all forms of contracts and one of their most important functions was limiting the
applicability of

Marketing Strategy Of Walt Disney World
Walt Disney once said, All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. Walt
Disney was one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time, a man who took a dream and pursued
it, making a worldwide famous company, Walt Disney World. This paper will look at the history,
financial situations, and marketing strategy of Walt Disney World. As Walt would say, Sit back and
enjoy!
In the early 1960s, Walt Disney wanted to give the residents of Eastern United States the opportunity
to enjoy the entertainment that was being offered at his California s Disneyland theme park. Walt and
his team the WED Enterprises settled on picking Florida as the new parks location. Florida offered
weather that was similar year round, and was already the number one location for tourism. The
announcement of the idea was delivered on November 16, 1965 at an Orlando press conference.
Sadly, Walt Disney passed in December of 1967, leaving behind his dream for the park. However,
President Roy O. Disney, Donn B. Tatum, and E. Cardon Walker, the top three executives for the
company carried on the plans to open the new park. After many months of construction and planning,
the park held its grand opening October 1, 1971. Since then there have been many additions and
openings in the park, new traditions made, parades, and special guests attending. Walt Disney World
became a part of the renowned world of entertainment and entertains millions every year. The Walt

The Freedom Of School Choice Essay
In a nation founded upon freedom, the liberty to choose the institution from which you get your
education should be a greater concern in Pennsylvania. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy of
liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our
government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America should
have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned with this
infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom to
homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being that
they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire the
religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated. Because
of the support that the government gives public schools using tax dollars and government subsidies,
parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools, secular
private schools, or even charter schools.
Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents to
put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Many public schools are
dropping their academic standards as well as losing their ethical standards altogether. Thus many
parents do not want to put their children in a school where they do not

Mary Cloney In Roald Dahl s Lamb To Slaughter

To fight or not to fight
Life is hard for kind people. We live in a world where we are told to be kind since we are children. To
hold doors for girls ,and to use manners and give compliments. We are told this all through school, but
by the time most people are in middle school all those lessons that had been drilled into us since we
are kids seem to disappear. On the internet you can be a cruel person knocking down others beliefs
and self worth ,but it seems like all those people know how to keep their mouth shut when they re not
behind a screen. Even through all this there seems to still be some optimist still out there. Lots of
times those people draw the short straw. Most of the time these people shrug it off and keeping going
on with their lives, but sometimes people snap. That s the case with Mary Maloney in Roald Dahl s
Lamb to slaughter.
You see the story starts off with Mrs. Maloney waiting for her husband to come home. It also says
Now and again she glanced at the clock, but without anxiety. This proves that this woman knows that
her husband will come home to her safe and sound. In the text It also says that Mrs. Maloney is
expecting a baby. Throughout the story their is no mention of any other children letting us know that
this is Mary s first child ,and usually women have their first born when their young ,say their early or
mid twenties. What we can infer is that Mary is a young wife expecting

Table For Ladies, By Edward Hopper, And His Wife
Tables for Ladies is set in the interior of an unknown restaurant. There are four figures in this piece:
two guests, a cashier, and a waitress. The two guests, a man and a woman, are sitting at one of the
tables and seem to be having a conversation. The cashier stands nearby the cash register, possibly
counting the amount of money in it. The waitress is arranging the display of fruit, which is presumably
at the front of the restaurant. The restaurant contains wall mirrors, polished woodwork and
checkerboard blue and white tiles on the floor. The artist, Edward Hopper, and his wife, Jo, had given
each figure a name while this piece was painting. The couple is Max Scherer and his wife, Sadie, the
cashier is Anne Popebogales and the waitress is Olga. By personal observation, this piece contains
bright and vibrant colors. It also seems to portray a scene that can be identified in modern, everyday
life, as opposed to an art piece based on religious scenes from the Bible or Greek or Roman
mythology. This painting is meant to portray the changing roles of women after the First World War,
which can be evident in the fact that the two people working in this restaurant are both women.
The painting was created by American artist, Edward Hopper. Hopper is possibly best known for his
painting, Nighthawks. Tables for Ladies contrasts this piece with its well light setting and warm,
vibrant colors. Nighthawks also features a restaurant as its setting, however, this piece is set at night.

Anthem Individuality Essay
Individuality in Anthem
Ceaseless collectivism is not something that can be forced upon a community. Ayn Rand s novel
Anthem conveys this through the writings of Equality 7 2125, a man willing to stand up to the
collectivism of the society he is confined to. Anthem not only shows how dull and lifeless a society
can be with a lack of individuality in its people, but also reveals how one person can significantly
impact a community. This novel displays the importance of individualism through Equality s thoughts
and actions. This includes when he reinvents electricity in the tunnel, falls in love with Liberty, and
when he completely separates himself from society. Equality s individualism is prominent when he
purposely isolates himself in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Equality continues to make his individualism known by preferring a woman, Liberty 3
5000, above all. While sweeping the streets, Equality takes notice of a woman working in the fields.
He is instantly intrigued by her and thinks of her over all others. Equality s attitude is significantly
changed by his interactions with Liberty. We do not know why we think of them. We do not know
why, when we think of them, we feel of a sudden that earth is good and that it is not a burden to live
(Rand 41). Individualism is shown when Equality chooses to favor Liberty. Equality looked at her,
even though there were other women in the field that day. He chooses Liberty above all the woman.
Equallity shows a preference in only her, which shows individuality. To add, Equality is becoming
more unruly and disobiedient by continuing to break rules. The crimes he comits involve talking to
woman of other Trades, looking upon woman, and the Transgression of Preference, which is to prefer
someone or something above others. Equality s love for Liberty continues to isolate and detach him
from his brothers. His love for Liberty motivates him to banish himself from his society and cut off all
his ties to it. Equality s individuality grows further when he purposely separates himself from his
society and obliterates the last of his identity that associates himself with the City. While showing his

The Importance Of Technology
Technology: A Backstabbing Companion.
Innovations have given us tools to become better and more efficient, but they have also brought an era
of mental decay and insecurity. How can something so important to our development be the cause of
misery and confrontation between individuals. Technology has decreased our ability to communicate
properly with others, this is due to our inability to differentiate online interactions from real life
occurrences. It is important for all of us living in this revolutionary world to asses our relationship
with technology.
The effects of social media and the constant interaction with technology makes us vulnerable to
distractions that can cause us to lose focus and by consequence deliver poor quality work. The
constant pressure that comes from notifications and messages is detrimental for our mental health. The
best example of this affects our bodies is shown when our bodies start to produce chemicals such as
dopamine and get adrenaline pumping, these two processes make our body stop all ongoing functions,
looses concentration and struggles to regain the level of concentration it was on for a considerable
amount of time. (Take Back Your Life.)
The changes technology has brought are most likely far superior to what older historians and scientists
would have imagined, technology has created a concept that in hindsight could have been frowned
upon in past centuries. It has given humans the ability to replace common and key activities with

English Patient Themes
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje was recently made into a movie, 2 hours and 42 minutes of
pure indulgence. The movie was rated R due to its sexuality, violence and mature language. If you re
looking for a boring, confusing book but a great movie, this is for you. Setting the scene, the movie is
filmed in Tunisia and Italy. The beautiful scenery and landscape contribute to the feeling of the film.
The themes of love and passion draw you into it. It is clear in the film, that the love between two
people is so fierce and intimate. Ralph Fiennes plays The English Patient very well by adapting the
character s suffering, love and lust. The movie was rated 84% on Rotten Tomatoes but I believe it
deserves a lot more than that.
The scenery and landscape of Tunisia and Italy contribute to the love and romance themes of the novel
and the movie. The dryness and extreme warmth of the desert can be ironically related to the English
Patient and his burnt skin. I specifically enjoyed how they filmed the movie in the Villa to be parallel
with the original novel. The bland colours of the desert made me pay more attention to the characters
in front of it. The dominant theme, however, was love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The struggled feelings for one another in this movie are heartbreaking. The moral of the story is that
one does not choose love; it is the love the does the choosing. The English Patient did not choose to

that maybe Hana did not love Kip or The English Patient. Perhaps they were just in the right place at
the right time. The affection displayed in this film portrays its feelings onto the audiences and
definitely pulls at their heartstrings. It s as though the love between two characters is so intimate and
strong that it s somewhat scary. Still, I think that Ralph Fiennes acting added to the intensity of the

productivity in the workplace has improved so much that an employee can be reached almost
anywhere at anytime to answer or solve any problem. However, rather than allowing employees to
work less and be truly productive, most workplaces place their value on the 40 hour week rather than

These results oriented workplaces create environments of healthier, happier workers, which produce
better work, on time. This paradigm shift of working smarter rather than punching a clock will
eventually take over business, though there is significant resistance in numerous workplaces. Human
resource departments are embracing this practice, as are visionary executives, and business managers,
making it very important to the next generation of business people to understand the rules and
frameworks that will result in greater productivity, and keep their employees healthier, happier, and
more productive. In an interview with David Hunnicutt, he cited the 7 benchmarks from the Welcoa
model for a results oriented workplace: attracting senior level support, creating cohesive wellness
teams, using data to drive health efforts, crafting an operating plan, choosing appropriate
interventions, creating supportive environments, and consistently evaluating outcomes.1 We will
discuss each of there benchmarks in detail. The results oriented workplace has numerous benefits,
both for the organization as well as for the individual employees. These include an empowered
population, striving to develop more efficient means to complete any task. This results in greater
profits for the company, resulting in hopefully more business. The first of the benchmarks that

was observed in this experiment with a guitar string, a motor, and a cell phone. The vibration of these
systems can be measured with an accelerometer. The accelerometer converts mechanical acceleration
to an electric signal.
To record the data measured by the accelerometer, the DAQ system LabVIEW was used. LabVIEW
collected the time and frequency data from the plucked guitar string. An important aspect of the DAQ
system is the sample rate, or the number of measurements it can make in a certain amount of time. It is
an important parameter because without a high enough sample rate, highly dynamic behavior may not
be recorded. Another problem with using an insufficient sampling rate is aliasing which is the
misinterpretation of high frequency signals as lower frequency components. To prevent this, the
sample frequency must be twice the highest frequency. Any signal in the system that is above the
Nyquist frequency, which is half the sampling frequency, is subject to aliasing, or false frequency
measurement. This means that the data is only reliable up to half of the sampling frequency. However,
a sample rate that is too high leads to difficult data processing and noise

Why I Want To Become A Travel Nurse
My future starts with going to college and earning a degree in nursing. More specifically, i will earn a
BSN (bachelors in science of nursing). I plan on attending University of Charleston in the fall. After
spending about four years earning this degree i plan to join a traveling company and become a
traveling nurse. I plan to only stay in North America when i travel. By becoming a travel nurse, i gain
many benefits that most nurses don t get. My goal with this is to work a minimum of five years to gain
and save enough money to support and pay for going back to college to gain either a master s or a
doctorates degree. When i go back, i plan to specialize in neonatal nursing and eventually work up to
becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner or a neonatal doctor. After earning that degree i will go back
and continue traveling. Now my goals for accomplishing these future plans are fairly simple: study

I have always wanted to work with small children in the medical field. After doing research on nursing
specialties i found the neonatal. Neonatal nurses work with babies that are born either too
early(premature) and/ or are suffering from a life threatening situations such as drug addiction or born
with aids. This would be a very tedious job because these babies are most of the time very tiny and the
equipment you work with is tiny and if you re not careful you can instantly kill them or seriously
injure them. One reason i drew interest in this field was because i have had family members who were
born with something wrong or were premature. One of them was actually my brother. He was born
with low blood sugar and digestive problems. If it wasn t for the nurses and the doctors my baby
brother wouldn t have grown up as healthy as he did. I plan to after earning one of those degrees go

According to www.merriam webster.com, contemporary is defined as happening or beginning now or

present the tales of the consequences of political and human disruption. Moreover, others investigate
the visual records of isolated communities.
The seventh Chapter Revived and Remade investigates and exploits ones preexisting knowledge of
imagery by mimicking and remaking well known photographs.
Finally Chapter 8 Physical and Material draws attention to the many decisions that photographers
have made to the physical and material properties of photography. Some use analogue while others
have mixed different mediums such as installations and sculptural work mixed with photography. The
second part of the chapter discusses alternatives ways of gaining exposure by the Internet. After

Importance Of College Tuition Based On Income
College Tuition Based on Income A college education is the road to get out of poverty. However it is
expensive, and the lower class can not always afford it. It seems like the rich get a good education and
remain rich for generations, while the the poor can not pay to get an education, so they remain poor
for generations. The gap between rich and poor would get bigger if this trend was real, but the
government wants to give everyone a chance to pursue happiness, so there are many scholarships and
grants the poor can get to get a good education. Now there is a question whether college tuition should
be based on income? No it should not because all this would do is hurt the rich, the poor already get a
plentiful help to get whatever education they want. Income tax is based on the amount of money you
make, so the rich pay more and the poor pay less. Now they want to do that for college? How is that
fair? The rich have earned their money one way or another, even if it is passed down from previous
generations. They have to pay more just because they have more? The government is for the people,
rich and poor, so why are the poor only ones being given support. What is the point of getting rich if
your money is going to get drained? As of now, college has a set price. However, it fluctuates with the

War of the Roses
War of the Roses For my research project I chose the war of the roses because it is interesting and
relates to us and where we live. I visited York, England this past Thanksgiving and learned some
background on this during our trip. York, England is about 3 hours north of London and is an
interesting medieval city with small narrow streets and modern living at the same time. The war of the
roses started on May 22, 1455 with the battle of St. Albans and ended on June 16, 1487 with the battle
of Stoke. King Henry VI and the Duke of Somerset, Edmund Beaufort, tried to keep the Duke of York,

Kingmaker . Edward IV, son of Richard IV, became the new king of England and one year later the

(Weir, Battle of St Albans, 2012) Four years prior to the battle of Towton, the Battle of Wakefield,
occurred and it had looked as though the Yorkists were going to dominate this war. During the Battle
of Wakefield the Yorkists received a devastating blow with the loss of their leader, Richard IV, and
other commanders during this battle. The Yorkist seamed defeated until the capture of King Henry VI.
The deciding factor in the war was during the battle of Edecote Moor when the Yorkists made a new
alliance with France and the King of England was also on their side. The new alliance with France and
the power of the king would prove to be the deciding factor in this war and would win the war for the
Yorkists. (Weir, Battle of Wakefield, 2012) During the Battle of Bosworth Field King Edward IV died
of an illness and his son Edward V became King at the age of 12. Richard V, the Duke of Gloucester,

Analysis Of Her Mistress s Clothes By Harriet Cany Peale
Her Mistress s Clothes by Harriet Cany Peale is a wonderful example of a composition that identifies
African American and Anglo Saxon women in 1848, displaying the difference of race and their
identities within this period.
Cany Peale s painting shows an Anglo Saxon woman engaging with an African American woman, at
first glance, one could assume this is a genre painting, that of a peaceful scene demonstrating people
in everyday activities ( Genre Painting ). Two women intimately engaging in a grooming ritual (Byrd)
however this thought is fractured as you see the controlling way the Anglo Saxon woman holds the
bottom of the African American woman s face as she gazes upon herself in the mirror. A spectacle of
power and control that is further illustrated as the Anglo Saxon woman stands slightly taller than the
African American, demonstrating the hierarchy and to establishing their identities as Mistress and
slave.
The slave is compositionally arranged in front of the Mistress in a predominant position, however as
noted in our text this week, most of the slaves placed in the foreground of a painting in this era were
done so in humor, to tease or to make them look immature (Pohl 278). As the title suggests, this slave
has been dressed up by her Mistress in her Mistress s clothing as a way for the Mistress to make fun of
the slave, teasing her with a taste of wealth and upper class. Cany Peale s previous career in fancy
goods gave her the understanding of what was in fashion

  • 2. The Most Popular Teams Hail From The Northwest The Sounders played the timbers for the first time on may 2nd, 1975, a 1 0 victory for the sounders that would start the most heated and bitter rivalry in all of American soccer. The Seattle sounders, the larger team from the larger city averages an average 43,000 in attendance for the home games, a continent high and a respectable amount even in europe s most prestigious leagues. Compared to portlands smaller 20,000 average in a smaller venues and a more modest market. The fact that two of the MLS s most popular teams hail from the northwest is no surprise as soccer is more popular here than anywhere else in the US. Aside from popularity the Timbers and Sounders have the success to match, both relatively new teams to the mls, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this strays from why they dislike each other, it about who is better, more about who is the best in the northwest. The Seattle sounders have huge infrastructure for the expression of their fans, from huge tifo s created by ECS to mock the timbers, to the march to the match closing down some downtown seattle streets just to show that the fans are willing and able to. When your team can average more fans than Chelsea, the premier league s reigning champion, you have something to be proud of. The Timbers would argue so what, you have more people, but the atmosphere in our city is something you could never match. At any home timbers game you can hear the constant chanting and the green smoke and streamers exploding from the timbers army section. They would say that no fans are as dedicated as theirs. One way the two fanbases each compete off the pitch is in Tifo s, these are huge hand painted images on canvas by the supporters for each game. They will mostly contain some form of taunting to the other team, Seattle and Portland are two of the only teams in the MLS who create these because of the fan man hours and effort they take to create. The seattle Sounders main fan group is the ECS, the emerald city supporters, based in bars around seattle and has membership in the high hundreds, taking up most of the south lower stand they are known for their loud chants and the atmosphere they create in Centurylink Stadium ... • 3. The Effects Of Natural Resources On The Environment Since the Industrial Revolution, natural resources have been under increasing pressure. The significant changes in the amount of natural resources we have left have led to many issues, such as global public health and global development. Other areas affected include the loss of forest, water and air pollution, decrease in fresh water supply and degradation of soil. Today we are currently seeing dramatic increases in global population. As the world s population continues to rise, natural resources will continue to dwindle as long as we remain the same. The one thing that I would say is the most challenging for humans is being able to advance in life, but still not destroy the environment. If you look at most developed countries, it is evident that they consume resources way more rapidly than developing countries. The problem with this is that all of these countries are consuming faster than they can produce. Places like Africa and Asia are experiencing population momentum. These areas have a tendency for population growth that continues to grow because of the high concentration of people having kids. Better living conditions are definitely needed in these countries because of the limited amount of resources being consumed by these regions. The over exploitation of these resources will eventually lead to problems for future uses. As population increases, the need to expand becomes more evident. The huge consumption and need for more food, land, water, and energy have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. President Roosevelt s Cognitive Style Cognitive style does not deal strictly with how intelligent a president is. Arguably, all presidents possess a high degree of intelligence. Rather, it concerns how presidents can process information from different sources and understand political scenarios (Greenstein). This primarily comes from a president s prior work, background, and IQ. FDR was highly intelligent; he graduated from Harvard College with a degree in history. During his years at Harvard, FDR was well versed in the subject of economics. He took more credits in economics than any subject except in history and english (Schlesinger). Additionally, Roosevelt was not new at all in the field of politics. He was a member of the New York State Senate, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and governor of New York prior to becoming the 32nd president of the United States. These experiences provided Roosevelt with the skills to think critically and process situations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roosevelt recognized he needed the best resources to deal with the nation he was just elected to lead. Prior to even obtaining the Democratic nomination, FDR gathered a group of scholars to help advise him on the various problems the nation faced. This team would later be known as the Brain Trust . At the start of FDR s administration, this group consisted of Raymond Moley, political scientist, Rexford Tugwell, an agricultural economist, and Adolf Berle, a specialist in public finance (Denton 44). • 5. The Theme Of Empathy And Fear In Ruthless In many stories, parallels to the real world can be seen. This is a way to connect the reader to characters or situations in the novel, making a false story seem more realistic. In the book Ruthless by Carolyn Lee Adams, a 17 year old girl named Ruth was kidnapped by a man named Jerry. He took Ruth to the woods and though she managed to escape him, she still remained lost in the woods with no way to get home. With Jerry at her heels, she plotted ways to escape the woods, but that didn t stop the fear of being recaptured to continue to loom over her. The growing lack of empathy and fear throughout Ruthless, are two real world concepts that were incorporated into this novel as a parallel to our society. The fear that Ruth feels throughout the story resembles the fear that many people feel due to terrorist attacks today. In the story, Ruth is in constant fear for her life because she is lost in the woods with a man that wants to kill her. While struggling to figure out how she was going to escape the woods, Ruth expressed, All I have now is rage. But somewhere, hiding underneath it, is fear (Adams 84). Ruth still feels fear because even though she escaped Jerry s captivity, she s still lost in the woods, and and she knows there s a very good chance of him finding her and killing her as he planned. Similar to the fear portrayed in the book, many people today have a fear of terrorism. An article on hate crimes against Muslims states, Incidents targeting Muslims increased each of the last several years after fluctuating for a decade following a strong spike in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.(1) According to statistics, hate crimes against Muslims were very low prior to 9/11, but they reached an all time high once the attacks took place. In the years that followed, the hate crimes kept a common trend of occurring about 5 6 times as much as they had before 9/11. The fact that Muslims went from hardly being attacked before the attacks to having almost 500 hate crimes against them in 2001, showed that many of their attackers were motivated by their fear of more potential attacks. The lack of empathy shown in the story by both the kidnapper and the couple living in the woods, paralleled the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Purpose Of The Milgram Experiment The Milgram Experiment is one of the most famous studies in psychology. It was carried out by Stanley Milgram, a psychologist from Yale University. The purpose of the experiment was to study how far people would go in obeying an instruction from an authority figure if it involved hurting another person. Milgram wanted to study whether Germans were more obedient to authority as this was what people believed was the main reason for Nazi killings in World War II. 40 males were chosen to participate in the study, and were paid $4.50 for attending. The experiment was carried out as follows: participants were introduced to a partner, although they were all actors the pairs drew straws to see who was going to be acting as a learner, and who would be acting as a teacher. This part of the experiment was rigged so the unknowing participants would always be the teacher the pairs were split up into seperate rooms where the learner was strapped to an electric chair the learner has already learned a list of word pairs that were given to him, and the teacher tests them by naming a word and asking the learner to recall its pair. the teacher was told to give an electric shock every time the learned made a mistake. There was a different voltage of shock each time, ranging from 15 to 450 volts. The teacher did not know, but the shocks were not actually administered. • 8. How Literacy Affected My Life How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to progressing all the way to thick chapter books and lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure because of exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events including the Accelerated Reader program and discovering my favorite childhood book series. This program gave me a greater appreciation for literacy, motivated me to read constantly, and quite frankly, brought out my competitive side. In the same way, another event that molded my literacy experience, was when the Junie B. Jones book series was placed into my hands because it quickly became my favorite childhood series. As I read the series, I constantly found myself spontaneously laughing out loud as I read because of the hilarity of the carefree character, Junie B. Jones. This series marked an enormous milestone in my literacy adventure because it was not only my favorite childhood series, but it was actually the first series I ever read and led to me discovering numerous other series that I still revel in today. The Suspense And Surprise In And Then There Were None The suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None Suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None Every well written murder mystery does not have fixed features because the writers of detective story always want to give their readers a unique feeling, but suspense and surprise are essential and indispensable. (Alewyn 184) In Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None, she fully combines suspense and surprise through the omniscient point of view and poignant plot. Therefore, And Then There Were None is a well written murder mystery. The omniscient point of view means a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows the thoughts and feelings of all of the characters in the story. (Abrams 233) Plot is the series of events that form the story of a novel, play, and film (Abrams 294). I will show the suspense and surprise through the analysis of narrative, rising action, climax, and falling action as well as use specific textual evidence from this fiction novel to prove it. The Law Of Unfair Terms Of Consumer Contracts The law of unfair terms in consumer contracts have experienced changes over the years, the most significant of which was the Consumer Rights Act which came into effect on October 1st 2015. However, before the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA 2015), unfair terms in consumer contracts were covered under two pieces of legislation; the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977(UCTA 1977) and the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (UTCCR 1999) . The UCTA 1977 and UTCCR 1999 provided liability for transactions occurring in the course of a business as well as business and consumer contracts. Both UCTA 1977 and UTCCR 1999 provided protection for consumers from terms in a contract so as to prevent them from being at a disadvantage for not read contractual terms and conditions. • 12. The Freedom Of School Choice Essay In a nation founded upon freedom, the liberty to choose the institution from which you get your education should be a greater concern in Pennsylvania. Our nation has prided itself upon its legacy of liberty, as well as the many opportunities it has been able to provide for its citizens. And yet our government has been continuously denying us one very important freedom that all in America should have, the freedom of school choice. You would think that more people would be concerned with this infringement upon human rights. While our government is striving to give more freedom to homosexuals who desire marriage and to women who do not want to deal with the human being that they helped to create, it is ignoring or suppressing the cries for liberty from those who desire the religious freedom to educate their children in the way they believe they should be educated. Because of the support that the government gives public schools using tax dollars and government subsidies, parents find it too difficult financially to place their children in religious private schools, secular private schools, or even charter schools. Also, the government has arranged public schools in such a way as to make it difficult for parents to put their children in a school that meets their standards of education. Many public schools are dropping their academic standards as well as losing their ethical standards altogether. Thus many parents do not want to put their children in a school where they do not ... The cashier stands nearby the cash register, possibly counting the amount of money in it. The waitress is arranging the display of fruit, which is presumably at the front of the restaurant. The restaurant contains wall mirrors, polished woodwork and checkerboard blue and white tiles on the floor. The artist, Edward Hopper, and his wife, Jo, had given each figure a name while this piece was painting. The couple is Max Scherer and his wife, Sadie, the cashier is Anne Popebogales and the waitress is Olga. By personal observation, this piece contains bright and vibrant colors. It also seems to portray a scene that can be identified in modern, everyday life, as opposed to an art piece based on religious scenes from the Bible or Greek or Roman mythology. This painting is meant to portray the changing roles of women after the First World War, which can be evident in the fact that the two people working in this restaurant are both women. The painting was created by American artist, Edward Hopper. Hopper is possibly best known for his painting, Nighthawks. Technology has decreased our ability to communicate properly with others, this is due to our inability to differentiate online interactions from real life occurrences. It is important for all of us living in this revolutionary world to asses our relationship with technology. The effects of social media and the constant interaction with technology makes us vulnerable to distractions that can cause us to lose focus and by consequence deliver poor quality work. The scenery and landscape of Tunisia and Italy contribute to the love and romance themes of the novel and the movie. • 21. How An Accelerometer Works, One Must First Understand The... Introduction To understand how an accelerometer works, one must first understand the concept of vibration. One example of vibration is sound. When an object vibrates and creates a disturbance in a medium, it creates a sound wave. The sound wave travels in sinusoidal form with certain frequencies. This affect was observed in this experiment with a guitar string, a motor, and a cell phone. The vibration of these systems can be measured with an accelerometer. The accelerometer converts mechanical acceleration to an electric signal. To record the data measured by the accelerometer, the DAQ system LabVIEW was used. LabVIEW collected the time and frequency data from the plucked guitar string. An important aspect of the DAQ system is the sample rate, or the number of measurements it can make in a certain amount of time. It is an important parameter because without a high enough sample rate, highly dynamic behavior may not be recorded. Another problem with using an insufficient sampling rate is aliasing which is the misinterpretation of high frequency signals as lower frequency components. To prevent this, the sample frequency must be twice the highest frequency. Any signal in the system that is above the Nyquist frequency, which is half the sampling frequency, is subject to aliasing, or false frequency measurement. This means that the data is only reliable up to half of the sampling frequency. However, a sample rate that is too high leads to difficult data processing and noise ... • 31. War of the Roses War of the Roses For my research project I chose the war of the roses because it is interesting and relates to us and where we live. I visited York, England this past Thanksgiving and learned some background on this during our trip. York, England is about 3 hours north of London and is an interesting medieval city with small narrow streets and modern living at the same time. The war of the roses started on May 22, 1455 with the battle of St. Albans and ended on June 16, 1487 with the battle of Stoke. King Henry VI and the Duke of Somerset, Edmund Beaufort, tried to keep the Duke of York, Richard IV, out of politics. (Weir, Battle of St Albans, 2012) Four years prior to the battle of Towton, the Battle of Wakefield, occurred and it had looked as though the Yorkists were going to dominate this war. • 32. Analysis Of Her Mistress s Clothes By Harriet Cany Peale Her Mistress s Clothes by Harriet Cany Peale is a wonderful example of a composition that identifies African American and Anglo Saxon women in 1848, displaying the difference of race and their identities within this period. Cany Peale s painting shows an Anglo Saxon woman engaging with an African American woman, at first glance, one could assume this is a genre painting, that of a peaceful scene demonstrating people in everyday activities ( Genre Painting ). Two women intimately engaging in a grooming ritual (Byrd) however this thought is fractured as you see the controlling way the Anglo Saxon woman holds the bottom of the African American woman s face as she gazes upon herself in the mirror. A spectacle of power and control that is further illustrated as the Anglo Saxon woman stands slightly taller than the African American, demonstrating the hierarchy and to establishing their identities as Mistress and slave. The slave is compositionally arranged in front of the Mistress in a predominant position, however as noted in our text this week, most of the slaves placed in the foreground of a painting in this era were done so in humor, to tease or to make them look immature (Pohl 278). As the title suggests, this slave has been dressed up by her Mistress in her Mistress s clothing as a way for the Mistress to make fun of the slave, teasing her with a taste of wealth and upper class. Cany Peale s previous career in fancy goods gave her the understanding of what was in fashion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
