Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults
2.1, Explain the skills needed to communicate with children and young people.
To be able to effectively communicate with children and young people you must first understand how
to speak appropriately for the Childs age level, cognitive level or language ability. For example, while
speaking to a child which has English as an Additional Language, you would need to speak slower,
with lots more annunciation and facial expression. To show them that they have my full attention I
would repeat what they had said, correcting where necessary but giving a great deal of praise.
When children are very young, always bring yourself down to their level. Sit on the ground next to

To immediately put the person at their ease I would first make a comment which is completely
different to what the topic of our conversation needs to be. For example, how much I like their shoes,
how did they do at football over the weekend or what good films have they watched recently. Once I
believe I have asked enough questions that are personal to them and can see that they are starting to
open up to me I would gradually start bringing up what the main purpose of our chat was meant to be.
This could be anything from, what has caused arguments to be arising lately with certain individuals
or why they are starting to struggle with certain activities. However, they must always understand that
your are their teaching assistant and not their buddy or parent.
Communication differences There are many different factors to take into consideration when
communicating with children or young adults. Their age, ie a 4 yr old, will not have heard as many
words as an 11 yr old, so the vocabulary has to be kept simpler. Children with learning disabilities,
such as ADD, ADHD or ASD have to have instructions given to them one at a time, as their brains
cannot compute multiple instructions. They may need to be repeated

Taking a Closer Look at an Ozone Molecule
INTRODUCTION
An ozone molecule contains three of oxygen atoms (O3) which included the molecular oxygen (O2)
that is important in our life in order to survive. Ozone is also the form of UV rays (sun) from the upper
parts of atmosphere which is called stratosphere. Another name for stratosphere is protective ozone
layer because it can help to protect human from the harmful effect of the ultra violet radiation (UV
ray) by absorbing it. But the lower part of atmosphere which name troposphere, can easily causes
harmful or damage to a lung tissues of human and also the leaves tissue of plants because of the strong
oxidizing agent. However when sunny or warm days, an ozone that formed by nitrogen oxides (NOx)

plants compared to mature plants which are more relatively resistant to ozone. However, the plants

Tom Sholz Influence On Boston
The rock band Boston is a staple of many classic rock stations playlists throughout the nation. They
are well known for songs like: More Than a Feeling , Foreplay/Longtime , Amanda , Peace of Mind ,
Don t Look Back , Rock and Roll Band , and Smokin along with many other great rock songs that
features founder Tom Scholz s music writing and Brad Delps lyrics. It is the combined work of these
two that made Boston what it is today; so it is necessary to know the history of Tom Scholz before
Boston to see where the influence for Boston s style came from. Tom Scholz had gone to school at

Persbrandt s Role In A Simple Life
not around the role he played. Thomsen is most famous for the role Christian he played in the first
Dogma film, The Celebration (1998), which made him well known to the world. The main adult actor
who played Anton, Mikael Persbrandt, was famous in Sweden. It was the success of In a Better World
that brought him to the international stage. The reason why Bier chose Persbrandt to play the main
role is that he a Swedish actor, which corresponds to Anton s identity in the film. As he is famous in
Sweden, the audience would recognize him, and make connection between his nationality and Anton

However, Roger discovers that Chung has taken care of him like a mother since he was born, and
develops the close relationship step by step. Nevertheless, in Bier s In a Better World, family members
in the two families are supposed to have close kinship, especially between direct relatives. However,
in Elias s family, his father and mother are arguing for a divorce, and lacking in father s companion, he
had a tense relationship with his mother. In Christian s family, the mother died from cancer, and
Christian is angry with his father because he lied to him and promised his mom could get well soon.
The conflicts between them are ambiguous at first, and then the emotion burst out with the
development of the plot. Finally, the film ends with the recovery of harmonious kinship in these two
families. Similar to Hui, Bier also takes the approach of using details to imply the plots. For example,
when Claus are collecting the old photos, he paused when finding out a photo of his wife without her
hair. Without saying a word, this scene delivers a message of the reason of the death of Christian s
mom to the audience. However, apart from filming details, Bier also exaggerates the conflicts by
recording the furious fighting between Claus and Christian when Claus found Christian s knife.
Moreover, close up shots are used to film Anton and Marianne s communication on the phone in order
to highlight their contradiction and sorrow. In addition, when Elias is injured by the bomb then set and
Christian comes to visit him with guilt, Marianne cannot control her anger, and grabbed Christian s
neck, pushed him against the wall and shouted to

School Counselor Evaluation
Evaluating the effectiveness of a professional development workshop to increase school counselors
use of data: The role of technology (2009) examined the effectiveness of four variations of a workshop
designed to improve school counselors data use skills. The workshops were designed to vary along
two dimensions; the amount of conceptual knowledge participants were exposed to, and the amount of
a technology application (EZAnalyze) participants were exposed to (Poynton, 2009). The study
consisted of 144 participants split into four different groups. Group one simply received training on
the development of data driven counseling programs. Group two had all of the same instruction as

As a school counselor and a student of educational technology, I was both empathetic and frustrated
by the results. I believe heavily in a data driven school counseling program and the effect that it has on
student achievement and school accountability. I would have loved the idea that an accessible data
program would encourage school counselors to develop comprehensive counseling programs,
however, I absolutely appreciate the lack of time and limited technological knowledge that led to
failure of the program to sustain interest. Increasing professional development and access to the
technology can only go so far without the ability to use it. I thought it was interesting that there was an
anomaly in one school because the counselor supervisor had initiated a data driven goal for their
counselors. To me, this is where the school needs and the counselor needs should focus attention. If
the school administration is fundamentally involved in also seeing that the school counselor be data
driven, then the use of technology will most certainly be employed. School counselors today have
been overwhelmed with many tasks that draw from their time spent on direct student services.
However, school administration that advocates for the availably and education of school counselors to
utilize technology to evaluate student data has the ability to make that process more attainable.
Fundamentally the school directive has to be instrumental in connecting the two for the accountability

Cause And Effect Of Titanic
Introduction Iceberg right ahead! That one of the most unforgettable quotes from the movie, Titanic .
After seeing that movie for the first time I found the Titanic and her famous story, I found the Titanic
and very fascinating. Titanic is one of the greatest known maritime disasters in history to this day. She
was the grandest, most technologically advanced ship, and safest ship of her time. As you read this
report, you will be presented some effects Titanic had on things during her time period as well as in
the present that most people may not know about.
Body of Research During the time of her construction, Titanic was designed to be the largest,
grandest, safest, and most technologically advanced ship during her time. Her designers and engineers
set out to build a class of ocean liners that could compete against White Star Line s rival company,
Cunard. However, when Titanic, the second of her sister ships sunk on her maiden voyage, it shook
the world and it had a major impact on the world and its people. One of the main effects was the effect
on safety regulations. Titanic only carried enough lifeboats to sustain roughly half of the passengers
and crew on board. At the time, Titanic actually exceeded the amount of the lifeboats required by the
British Board of Trade regulations by 10 percent.
Although there was room on deck for twice as many lifeboats, the Titanic carried lifeboats for just
over half of the passengers and crew on board. The designer of the Titanic had allowed room on deck
for two rows of lifeboats, but one row was removed before the voyage began to make the deck more
aesthetically pleasing [Rogers and others, 1998]. With outdated British Board of Trade regulations, the
Titanic s twenty lifeboats actually exceeded requirements by 10 percent capacity [Refrigerator, 1998].
(Vicki Bassett, par. 21)
After Titanic s disaster, the new safety regulations required all ships to carry enough lifeboats to
sustain all of the passengers and crew aboard the ship. Moreover, the regulations also specify that the
lifeboats had to carry items such as oars, food, drinks, compasses, etc. Following the increase in
lifeboats, a mandatory use of wireless

Asian American Population And Asian Americans
The Asian American population is a major facet of American life; beginning their lives as immigrants
they have worked their way to become integral members of society. In 2010 there were 14.7 million
Asian Americans living in the United States and in 2011 that number increased to 18.2 million.1
Culturally, Asian American people have traditions and beliefs that contradict those of the Western
world.2 Culture molds people s values, attitudes, and beliefs; influences their perceptions of self and
others; and determines the way they experience their environment. 10 As a result there are certain
barriers that exist when communicating with Asian Americans due to their cultural background.
Additionally, Asians living in America suffer from the Model Minority Myth, which typecasts these
people as being financially and educationally well off in comparison to other ethnic groups.2 Due to
this Asian Americans aren t considered more at risk for many health risks compared to other
ethnicities; cultural and physical barriers act as a hindrance to Asian Americans receiving healthcare
services, primarily mental health related services.
According to Spencer et al. Asian Americans often stigmatize mental health. As a result many
individuals forgo taking advantage of mental health services because it promotes cultural feelings of
shame or embarrassment.2 The article analyzed the connection between discrimination and the usage
of mental health services on a national sample of Asian Americans.

Tutankhamun Investigation
British archaeologist Howard Carter and his team (under the control of Lord Carnarvon, the
archaeologist who funded the search) were the first to discover the steps leading to the tomb of King
Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt on November 4, 1922. Carter landed in Egypt in
1891, determined to find one of the remaining ancient Egyptian tombs; Tutankhamun s. However,
there was doubt the tomb even existed. Carter stated that there were several pieces of evidence a

Tutankhamun already found that convinced him that the tomb of King Tut had not yet been found.1

Trinity and Society makes case that there are three primary developments of Trinitarian thought, each

The Use Of Andromache In The Iliad, And Genesis
The Iliad centers around the use of moira to control the lives of the characters while Genesis relies on
God to set things in motion for his plans. Andromache, from the Iliad, and Rebekah, from Genesis, are
each used by the larger force at work to express the major themes of each work. Andromache and
Rebekah are each used by either God or moira to produce offspring that are predestined for important
events that have been predetermined by either God or moira. Each woman also attempts to bend their
husband to their will, in different ways, to get their husband to act in the way that they see as most
desirable. However, Rebekah is much more successful in her attempt on Isaac than Andromache is in
making Hector do what she wants him to do. Both Andromache and Rebekah attempt to control their
husbands, but Andromache has no real power to influence her husband s decisions due to moira.
Andromache is given very little power to change the direction of her narrative due to the fated fall of
Troy. Andromache and Rebekah are given very different abilities to control their narratives due to
what is predestined by moira, in Andromache s case, and what God commands, in Rebekah s case. In
both the Iliad and Genesis, the only way for new beings to come into the world is through women.
Andromache and Rebekah are both used, by moira or God, to bring life into the world. The children
that each woman has are already fated for a predetermined event. In the case of Rebekah s son,
Astyanax, he is destined to fall with the city of Troy by moira to show just how far the city has fallen.
Rebekah s sons, Esau and Jacob, have an intertwining purpose from God to show that the younger or
weaker can always prosper. Andromache, after realizing that Hector has been murdered, realizes that
Troy will topple and fall (Il. 24.781) before Astyanax has a chance to grow up and that her son was
doomed when [Andromache and Hector] bore him because of moira (Il. 24.779). Andromache holds
onto the hope that Hector will return to her victorious and the prosperous life that she lived with him
before the war would return. As soon as Hector s death is announced, however, she allows the reality
of the situation to sink in as she accepts the almost

Election of 1876
The contested election of 1876 has been pronounced by Historians, as one of the most hostile,
controversial, and most disputed presidential elections in American history. Representing the
Republicans was Samuel J. Tilden of New York and Rutherford B. Hayes of Ohio representing the
Democrats. With Hayes being outpolled in the popular vote, Tilden wins. With the recounting and

enacted. It mandated racial segregation amongst the southern states. African Americans suffered legal

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers By Emily Dickinson
Analyzing Birds and Hopes in Hope is the thing with feathers Is hope a thing with feathers? Hard to
believe it, right? Hope is the thing with feathers is one of the best well known poems of Emily
Dickinson. An inspiring story, connecting the significance of hope with a bird that it s permanently
perching the soul of every human. The author of this poem, Emily Dickinson, wrote this extended
metaphor in 1862. Only seven poems from 1800 poems that she wrote got published when she was
alive. This poem has a very good use of the language, different types of rhythm, and stands out the
word Hope which reminds all of us that no matter how are the circumstances if you are singing and
have hopes you can change the consequences. I will analyze the use of symbolism and language that
Emily Dickinson uses in Hope is the thing with feathers to convey the setting and the theme of the
poem. Establishing the poem s theme, the speaker begins: Hope is the thing with feathers That perches
in the soul And sings the tune without the words And never stops at all . (Dickinson lines 1 4) ... Show

What Dickinson is doing in these two first lines are giving emphasis with the use of a bird to
symbolize freedom and to make you realize that hope is always there, in your heart. In the last two
lines of the first stanza, the speaker focuses in what the bird does: sings the tunes without the words
(Dickinson line 3), meaning that hope is endless, and it will remain on you forever. The bird singing in
the soul it s a perfect example of Dickinson s homiletic style. Her language through the first stanza is
vivid and gentle, and it captions the attention of the reader using metaphors (lines 1 3),
personifications (line 2 and 3), slant rhymes and

Literary Devices In War
What was the intended message and intended audience of both texts? What evidence tells you this? In
both texts, an anti war message is present and they are both directed to everyone. In War , the
pacifistic, anti war message was spread thin to a plethora of lines throughout the song however it was
still extremely influential and cogent. This is evident through the hook of the song, War! What is it

What Is The Moral Of Plato s Apology
Plato s Apology, is by far one of the most logical yet critical thinking text that I have ever read. Plato
describes Socrates, the accused atheist and corrupter of youth in ancient Athens, as a true beacon of
ethics and morality. The method that Plato uses to depict Socrates on trial gives us a look back on how
the trial of a man who encourages one of sound mind to ask questions even to those who are deemed

Continuing with his defense Socrates addresses one of his accusers Meletus in accordance to the
accusation that he is a corrupter of youth.. He asks a series of questions to Meletus which he answers
yes to all. But it Socrates last question that shows his true motive for all the questions, Then every
Athenian improves and elevates them; all with the exception of myself; and I alone am their

Socrates response to this just add another mark for his cleverness I am very unfortunate if that is true.
... Happy indeed would be the condition of youth if they had one corrupter only, and all the rest of the
world were their improvers. (Plato) By asking these questions to Meletus, Socrates exposes Meletus
answers as counterintuitive: For if they were true then the society of Athens would be a much better
place with little to no corruption. Socrates reveals it is those who are accusing the innocent of being
corrupt that are themselves corrupt.

Moral Relativism In High Schools
Today s society places feelings above all else. Feelings trump logic, reason, and other basic principles
that all great societies value. This shift in predilection towards feelings has caused society to begin
making decisions based on feelings as opposed to logic.
Moral relativism is the philosophy where things such as ethics, morals and positions of right and
wrong are subject to one s own beliefs; this philosophy eliminates all objective truths. Slowly but
surely, society is turning into a moral relativistic society where everyone is free to create their own
truth based on how they feel. For example, an objective truth would be The killing of innocent life is
wrong, but a moral relativist could just as easily say, I feel that killing ... Show more content on

In order to combat this ever pervasive problem, it must be attacked at the roots. This could be
achieved through the teaching of good philosophy. This solution is not as easy as it seems though.
Creating an environment that fosters intellectual thought and philosophical discussion within the
school system will undoubtedly help students question ideas that are currently left unquestioned.
Making philosophy class mandatory in high schools will nurture thoughtful minds that can entertain
an idea without accepting it. Possessing the ability to do this will benefit students far greater than a
guitar class or most other electives for that matter. A philosophy class will teach students rudimentary
principles taught by some of the greatest thinkers of all time Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato. These basic
principles will uproot and contradict many things society values today, most of which will be moral
relativism.
The implementation of philosophy into high schools is a macro solution that is far above anything I
can do in my life at the moment. Despite this fact, I can still have an effect on a micro level. By living
out the good philosophy that should be taught in schools, I allow my peers and community to see the
effect that this philosophy has. Having people lead by example and live out their philosophy is one of
the easiest ways to change those around

Foreign Policy-Making Process Model
1. Invent your own model Current system of the US foreign policy decision making process is best
defined by Hilsman s model. My model aims to offer a different approach to the existing policy
making process model. According to my model; the main actor in foreign policy decision making
process is the National Security Council (NSC) instead of the President of the United States. By
putting the NSC to the center of my model, I aim to balance the president s seemingly extreme power
in the foreign policy making process and prevent the destructive effects of internal conflicts and
rivalries among bureaucratic institutions to affect foreign policy decision making process. President s
status is second to the National Security Council, the President s ... Show more content on

However, it cannot be always a beneficial option for the US that its decision making process is led by
a one leading figure. There are good examples such as Franklin D. Roosevelt but conversely, there are
negative examples in the US foreign policy such as; George W.Bush and Barack Obama, which
shaped and applied erroneous policies that undermined the US role in the post Cold War international
system. The NSC s structure in Classic model is controversial for me. The NSC members are
designated by the president and this might allow unchallenged and without balanced foreign policy
strategies under crusader type task oriented leader such as George W.Bush. The congress can check
the president s appointments but this will also lead a slow down and can be regarded as a sign of
weakness by the possible international challengers of the US. In addition to this, the current role of the
NSC in Hilsman s model can also lead lack of coordination and open for bureaucratic rivalry under
presidents such as Barack Obama. As I stated above, bureaucracy s role in USFP is also too broad. In
Hilsman s model, bureaucracy is able to affect the decision making process and diminish the
effectiveness of foreign policy strategies due to inter institutional rivalry. People s role is quite limited
in this model with only election of the president. The public does not have any role to determine its
country s foreign policy staff. Although the congress can check the president s appointees, this usually
leads an administrative crisis and considered as a weakness by the challengers of the

Hong Kong Landfill Problem
Turn landfill problem into history
With the wasteful lifestyle of Hong Kong citizens, the 4 major landfills in Hong Kong are going to be
saturated. From the government s words, these landfills will be fully saturated before late 2010s. The
situation is getting worse in these years, as people have no improvement in their consumption style.
They are not aware of their responsibility on reducing waste. Also, people cannot develop the routine
on recycling, and send much unnecessary rubbish to the landfill. With the rare land resources in Hong
Kong, we cannot offer any more land to extend or construct a new landfill. If we still do nothing and
continue the trend, the problem on waste treatment will cause an enormous amount of cost for the ...

People in developing countries may not be aware of the consequences of waste disposal in their area,
as they only consider whether they can get food to survive. Environmental protection is a luxury for
them. This may cause deep rooted and irreversible effects to the countries. Developed cities should
help developing countries, but not to increase their burden and exploit their rights.
When we look deep into incineration, is incineration effective to reduce the pressure on landfills? In
fact, this is only a shortsighted measure comparing with the PATY system. When incinerators are built,
people will consider the problem solved and ignore the problem for a long time. However, this will
only increase people s reliance on incinerators. Lau (2008) observes the situation in Singapore and
points out that the citizens in Singapore need to bear a high financial burden on incineration (¶ 4).
Singapore overlooks the importance of waste reduction and keeps on building incinerators to satisfy
the increasing waste volume every 5 to 7 years. They need to spend at least HK$8 billion to build an
incinerator, and the operating cost of each incinerators costs over HK$250 million per year. The
geographical size of Singapore is smaller than Hong Kong, but it already has built 4 incinerators. The
cost is too high for Hong Kong to bear and it is very difficult to choose a suitable place to build the
incinerators. The residents near the

Similarities And Weaknesses Of The Civil War
The Civil War The North and South had many different weaknesses and strengths at the beginning of
the Civil War in 1861. This essay will compare the political, economic, social and military strengths
and weaknesses of the North and South at the beginning of the Civil War. There were many reasons
for the War of the States to be fought including, but not limited to slavery, separation of states, the
Constitution, and the way of life. The North and South had many political strengths and weaknesses.
The South had an amazing fighting spirit because they were fighting to preserve their way of life.
They were also defending their home against the northern invaders. While the North was just fighting
to continue the Union, and were not as inspired. Furthermore the North had the advantage of President
Lincoln being from the North, when the South did not. The South had less states in its Confederacy
with only a mere fifteen states, versus the North who had nineteen states in their Union. Lincoln
believed that secession was illegal under the law of the Constitution and he would declare war against
the rebelling states if necessary. For the first time in American history, Lincoln suspended the writ of
habeas corpus, the right of prisoners to a trial, ergo the Union could arrest citizens who might have
been southern sympathizers. The North and South had many economic strengths and weaknesses. The
South had many plantations of rice, cotton, tobacco and other cash crops, which produced

Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable...
ABSTRACT
Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical procedures. Major
advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology have created opportunity for
quantitative analyses of medical images and provided powerful techniques to probe the structure,
pathology and function of the human body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually extract
the desired regions that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is subjected
to manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The problem
faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely used method for clustering is
based on K means in which the data is partitioned into K number of clusters. In this method, clusters
are predefined which is highly dependent on the initial identification of elements representing the
clusters well. Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the clustering process such
that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster representation.

Global Financial Crisis of 2008 in the Movie, How We Got Here
The global financial crisis of 2008 has caused millions of people to lose their homes, jobs and savings,
and it nearly resulted in a global financial collapse. It resulted in the threat of total collapse of large
financial institutions, the bailout of banks by national governments, and downturns in stock markets
around the world. On top of that, the housing market was damaged, causing in evictions, foreclosures
and prolonged unemployment.
There were many factors directly and indirectly caused the Great recession. The crisis resulted from a
combination of complex factors, including easy credit conditions during the period between 2002
2008 that encouraged high risk lending and borrowing practices without assessing default risk;
international trade imbalances; real estate bubbles that have burst; fiscal policy choices; and
approaches used by nations to bail out troubled banking industries and private bondholders, assuming
private debt burdens or socializing losses (Lewis 2011).

The Media In The Movies
Moving on, zombies and the lower class have an interesting future ahead. According to the essay The
Media in the Movies zombies make their interactions primarily through pop culture and media. Media
is becoming the way of life around most of the world. Nearly everything is now digital and accessible
via an electronic device. This electronic domination can go both ways for zombies as their initial
appeal method of movies may take a hit because less people are heading to movie theaters and are
watching movies and television shows via streaming websites such as Netflix. According to MPPA.org
there has been a steep decline of about five percent in movie theater attendance. This can potentially
hurt the zombie appeal because movies are a huge display point for zombies and having a decline in
movie theater attendance mean less people are watching the zombie brand. On the flip side, it is
beginning to look like zombies are no longer relying on items such as movies but instead focus on
television shows in hopes of expanding the brand. Numerous zombie incorporated television shows
such as The Walking Dead have rapidly gained popularity as these shows are becoming much watch
TV for many people. In the midst of all this it seems as zombies aren t being hurt but rather changing.

Symbolism In A Tale Of Two Cities By Charles Dickens
The wine of the aristocrats was made by the vine; the wine of the peasants was made by the guillotine.
The novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens presents this all too real society, and the story of a
group of brave and loving people who live in it. All throughout the novel, the symbolism of wine as
blood is pushed upon us, starting out during a seemingly joyous occasion: a cask of wine is dropped
outside of a wine shop and it breaks open allowing the impoverished to get wine out of the muddy
puddles in the streets. This scene within itself seems oddly out of place in the story it doesn t really do
much to introduce any characters, it isn t really important to the plot that this specific cart dropped
wine, etc. however, this scene is no less violent than the beheadings and mobbs. You see, the real
violence in this seemingly innocent scene is not in the actual events, but in the meaning behind it. A
shrill sound of laughter and of amused voices voices of men, women, and children resounded in the
street while this wine game lasted. There was little roughness in the sport, and much playfulness.
There was a special companionship in it, an observable inclination on the part of everyone to join
some other one, which led, especially among the luckier or lighter hearted, to frolicsome embraces,
drinking of healths, shaking of hands, and even joining of hands and dancing, a dozen together. When
first reading this passage we haven t really heard much about wine,

Who Is The Protagonist In The Crucible

relationship with Abagail Williams. This is why I strongly feel like he is the protagonists of the story
because of his failure in his relationship, his guilt because of it, and his redemption at the end of the
story. A reason that supports this claim is his secret relationship with Abagail Williams and how she
uses that to cause problems within his relationship. The other reason that he is the main protagonists is

but that is not the only thing that shows who he truly is. The other reason he rather choose to hang is
so that he doesn t let such an innocent girl like his wife Elizbeth die for his mistakes. He states it very

The Egyptian Women And Women
Contouring , Smokey Eye , and Winged Eyeliner are all popular phrases we know today that are well
overused. Where did these phrases originate from? Why are they so well known? Originating all the
way back from 10,000 BCE is when the idea of makeup started coming about. This idea, very simple
at first began with the men and women of Egypt. The Egyptian population first started with using oils
and ointments for their hygiene and their health but then as time went on the Egyptian women began
using natural resources for other uses. Egyptian women apply galena mesdemet (made of copper and
lead ore) and malachite (bright green paste of copper minerals) to their faces for color and definition
(A History of Cosmetics from Ancient Times). The use of the natural resources in this way started
what we know of today as makeup. The idea of makeup as the use of making someone s face appear
more attractive became very popular from spreading from the Egyptians to the Chinese in 3000 BCE,
Chinese to the Japanese in 1500 BCE, and then on to the Grecians, Romans, and all over Europe. The
idea of makeup made its way from 10,000 BCE up until now in the Twenty First Century. Although,
somewhere along the way the idea of makeup was no longer an addition to one s beauty but a
necessity to even contain beauty. From a young age, women are taught that they need makeup to be
beautiful or attractive from cosmetic company s propaganda through the use of media.

Following the civil war the Army was downsizing. Custer was a captain in the regular army. In July

Territorial Disputes Within The South China Sea
Country: Netherlands
Name: Michael Zuker and Max Myszkowski
Committee: United Nations General Assembly
Topic: Territorial Disputes in the South China Sea
Background Following the cessation of the Cold War, a massive territorial dispute erupted over two
island chains in the South China Sea (SCS), the Paracels and the Spratleys. Those nations disputing
their rightful ownership include China, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, and Taiwan. The
source of the conflict in this area stems from the geographical location and the natural resources to be
gained through their ownership. According to the World Bank, the sea contains approximately 900
trillion cubic feet of natural gas and seven billion barrels of oil. That roughly equates to the amount of
energy needed to power the entire world for an entire year. Furthermore, the sea is a center for fishing
and provides most of the surrounding countries with the vast majority of their total fish supply.
Finally, the SCS is a major trade route, especially for petroleum products and crude oil shipments;
control of the region could easily mean absolute monopoly over shipments passing through it. China
has the largest claim, with what is referred to as the Nine Dash Line . This line outlines all of the
disputed islands as China s historical claims, establishing China s belief that it has the sole rights to
the islands. Vietnam and the Philippines also claim to have historical reasons to impose sovereignty
over this territory.

However, in Elias s family, his father and mother are arguing for a divorce, and lacking in father s companion, he had a tense relationship with his mother. In Christian s family, the mother died from cancer, and Christian is angry with his father because he lied to him and promised his mom could get well soon. The conflicts between them are ambiguous at first, and then the emotion burst out with the development of the plot. Finally, the film ends with the recovery of harmonious kinship in these two families. Similar to Hui, Bier also takes the approach of using details to imply the plots. For example, when Claus are collecting the old photos, he paused when finding out a photo of his wife without her hair. Without saying a word, this scene delivers a message of the reason of the death of Christian s mom to the audience. As a school counselor and a student of educational technology, I was both empathetic and frustrated by the results. I believe heavily in a data driven school counseling program and the effect that it has on student achievement and school accountability. I would have loved the idea that an accessible data program would encourage school counselors to develop comprehensive counseling programs, however, I absolutely appreciate the lack of time and limited technological knowledge that led to failure of the program to sustain interest. Increasing professional development and access to the technology can only go so far without the ability to use it. I thought it was interesting that there was an anomaly in one school because the counselor supervisor had initiated a data driven goal for their counselors. To me, this is where the school needs and the counselor needs should focus attention. If the school administration is fundamentally involved in also seeing that the school counselor be data driven, then the use of technology will most certainly be employed. School counselors today have been overwhelmed with many tasks that draw from their time spent on direct student services. However, school administration that advocates for the availably and education of school counselors to utilize technology to evaluate student data has the ability to make that process more attainable. After seeing that movie for the first time I found the Titanic and her famous story, I found the Titanic and very fascinating. Titanic is one of the greatest known maritime disasters in history to this day. She was the grandest, most technologically advanced ship, and safest ship of her time. As you read this report, you will be presented some effects Titanic had on things during her time period as well as in the present that most people may not know about. Body of Research During the time of her construction, Titanic was designed to be the largest, grandest, safest, and most technologically advanced ship during her time. Her designers and engineers set out to build a class of ocean liners that could compete against White Star Line s rival company, Cunard. However, when Titanic, the second of her sister ships sunk on her maiden voyage, it shook the world and it had a major impact on the world and its people. One of the main effects was the effect on safety regulations. Titanic only carried enough lifeboats to sustain roughly half of the passengers and crew on board. At the time, Titanic actually exceeded the amount of the lifeboats required by the British Board of Trade regulations by 10 percent. Although there was room on deck for twice as many lifeboats, the Titanic carried lifeboats for just over half of the passengers and crew on board. The designer of the Titanic had allowed room on deck for two rows of lifeboats, but one row was removed before the voyage began to make the deck more aesthetically pleasing [Rogers and others, 1998]. With outdated British Board of Trade regulations, the Titanic s twenty lifeboats actually exceeded requirements by 10 percent capacity [Refrigerator, 1998]. (Vicki Bassett, par. 21) After Titanic s disaster, the new safety regulations required all ships to carry enough lifeboats to sustain all of the passengers and crew aboard the ship. Moreover, the regulations also specify that the lifeboats had to carry items such as oars, food, drinks, compasses, etc. Following the increase in lifeboats, a mandatory use of wireless ... In 2010 there were 14.7 million Asian Americans living in the United States and in 2011 that number increased to 18.2 million.1 Culturally, Asian American people have traditions and beliefs that contradict those of the Western world.2 Culture molds people s values, attitudes, and beliefs; influences their perceptions of self and others; and determines the way they experience their environment. 10 As a result there are certain barriers that exist when communicating with Asian Americans due to their cultural background. Additionally, Asians living in America suffer from the Model Minority Myth, which typecasts these people as being financially and educationally well off in comparison to other ethnic groups.2 Due to this Asian Americans aren t considered more at risk for many health risks compared to other ethnicities; cultural and physical barriers act as a hindrance to Asian Americans receiving healthcare services, primarily mental health related services. The Use Of Andromache In The Iliad, And Genesis The Iliad centers around the use of moira to control the lives of the characters while Genesis relies on God to set things in motion for his plans. Andromache, from the Iliad, and Rebekah, from Genesis, are each used by the larger force at work to express the major themes of each work. Andromache and Rebekah are each used by either God or moira to produce offspring that are predestined for important events that have been predetermined by either God or moira. Each woman also attempts to bend their husband to their will, in different ways, to get their husband to act in the way that they see as most desirable. However, Rebekah is much more successful in her attempt on Isaac than Andromache is in making Hector do what she wants him to do. Both Andromache and Rebekah attempt to control their husbands, but Andromache has no real power to influence her husband s decisions due to moira. Andromache is given very little power to change the direction of her narrative due to the fated fall of Troy. Andromache and Rebekah are given very different abilities to control their narratives due to what is predestined by moira, in Andromache s case, and what God commands, in Rebekah s case. In both the Iliad and Genesis, the only way for new beings to come into the world is through women. Andromache and Rebekah are both used, by moira or God, to bring life into the world. The children that each woman has are already fated for a predetermined event. In the case of Rebekah s son, Astyanax, he is destined to fall with the city of Troy by moira to show just how far the city has fallen. Rebekah s sons, Esau and Jacob, have an intertwining purpose from God to show that the younger or weaker can always prosper. Andromache, after realizing that Hector has been murdered, realizes that Troy will topple and fall (Il. 24.781) before Astyanax has a chance to grow up and that her son was doomed when [Andromache and Hector] bore him because of moira (Il. 24.779). Hope is the thing with feathers is one of the best well known poems of Emily Dickinson. The author of this poem, Emily Dickinson, wrote this extended metaphor in 1862. Only seven poems from 1800 poems that she wrote got published when she was alive. This poem has a very good use of the language, different types of rhythm, and stands out the word Hope which reminds all of us that no matter how are the circumstances if you are singing and have hopes you can change the consequences. The NSC s structure in Classic model is controversial for me. The NSC members are designated by the president and this might allow unchallenged and without balanced foreign policy strategies under crusader type task oriented leader such as George W.Bush. The congress can check the president s appointments but this will also lead a slow down and can be regarded as a sign of weakness by the possible international challengers of the US. • 26. Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable... ABSTRACT Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical procedures. Major advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology have created opportunity for quantitative analyses of medical images and provided powerful techniques to probe the structure, pathology and function of the human body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually extract the desired regions that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is subjected to manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The problem faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely used method for clustering is based on K means in which the data is partitioned into K number of clusters. In this method, clusters are predefined which is highly dependent on the initial identification of elements representing the clusters well. Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the clustering process such that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster representation. keywords : Segmentation, Clustering, Adaptive K means, digital image processing. It resulted in the threat of total collapse of large financial institutions, the bailout of banks by national governments, and downturns in stock markets around the world. On top of that, the housing market was damaged, causing in evictions, foreclosures and prolonged unemployment. There were many factors directly and indirectly caused the Great recession. The crisis resulted from a combination of complex factors, including easy credit conditions during the period between 2002 2008 that encouraged high risk lending and borrowing practices without assessing default risk; international trade imbalances; real estate bubbles that have burst; fiscal policy choices; and approaches used by nations to bail out troubled banking industries and private bondholders, assuming private debt burdens or socializing losses (Lewis 2011). • 28. The Media In The Movies Moving on, zombies and the lower class have an interesting future ahead. According to the essay The Media in the Movies zombies make their interactions primarily through pop culture and media. Media is becoming the way of life around most of the world. Nearly everything is now digital and accessible via an electronic device. This electronic domination can go both ways for zombies as their initial appeal method of movies may take a hit because less people are heading to movie theaters and are watching movies and television shows via streaming websites such as Netflix. According to MPPA.org there has been a steep decline of about five percent in movie theater attendance. This can potentially hurt the zombie appeal because movies are a huge display point for zombies and having a decline in movie theater attendance mean less people are watching the zombie brand. On the flip side, it is beginning to look like zombies are no longer relying on items such as movies but instead focus on television shows in hopes of expanding the brand. Numerous zombie incorporated television shows such as The Walking Dead have rapidly gained popularity as these shows are becoming much watch TV for many people. In the midst of all this it seems as zombies aren t being hurt but rather changing. Which is similar to the lower class as it will continue to evolve as well. • 29. Symbolism In A Tale Of Two Cities By Charles Dickens The wine of the aristocrats was made by the vine; the wine of the peasants was made by the guillotine. The novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens presents this all too real society, and the story of a group of brave and loving people who live in it. All throughout the novel, the symbolism of wine as blood is pushed upon us, starting out during a seemingly joyous occasion: a cask of wine is dropped outside of a wine shop and it breaks open allowing the impoverished to get wine out of the muddy puddles in the streets. This scene within itself seems oddly out of place in the story it doesn t really do much to introduce any characters, it isn t really important to the plot that this specific cart dropped wine, etc. however, this scene is no less violent than the beheadings and mobbs. You see, the real violence in this seemingly innocent scene is not in the actual events, but in the meaning behind it. A shrill sound of laughter and of amused voices voices of men, women, and children resounded in the street while this wine game lasted. There was little roughness in the sport, and much playfulness. There was a special companionship in it, an observable inclination on the part of everyone to join some other one, which led, especially among the luckier or lighter hearted, to frolicsome embraces, drinking of healths, shaking of hands, and even joining of hands and dancing, a dozen together. He also has problems of his own to, like not being faithful to his wife at times or mostly at all times do to problems, and also having a secret but not intimate relationship with Abagail Williams. This is why I strongly feel like he is the protagonists of the story because of his failure in his relationship, his guilt because of it, and his redemption at the end of the story. A reason that supports this claim is his secret relationship with Abagail Williams and how she uses that to cause problems within his relationship. • 31. The Egyptian Women And Women Contouring , Smokey Eye , and Winged Eyeliner are all popular phrases we know today that are well overused. Where did these phrases originate from? Why are they so well known? Originating all the way back from 10,000 BCE is when the idea of makeup started coming about. This idea, very simple at first began with the men and women of Egypt. The Egyptian population first started with using oils and ointments for their hygiene and their health but then as time went on the Egyptian women began using natural resources for other uses. Egyptian women apply galena mesdemet (made of copper and lead ore) and malachite (bright green paste of copper minerals) to their faces for color and definition (A History of Cosmetics from Ancient Times). The use of the natural resources in this way started what we know of today as makeup. The idea of makeup as the use of making someone s face appear more attractive became very popular from spreading from the Egyptians to the Chinese in 3000 BCE, Chinese to the Japanese in 1500 BCE, and then on to the Grecians, Romans, and all over Europe. The idea of makeup made its way from 10,000 BCE up until now in the Twenty First Century. Although, somewhere along the way the idea of makeup was no longer an addition to one s beauty but a necessity to even contain beauty. From a young age, women are taught that they need makeup to be beautiful or attractive from cosmetic company s propaganda through the use of media. The media uses technology to ... Territorial Disputes Within The South China Sea Country: Netherlands Name: Michael Zuker and Max Myszkowski Committee: United Nations General Assembly Topic: Territorial Disputes in the South China Sea Background Following the cessation of the Cold War, a massive territorial dispute erupted over two island chains in the South China Sea (SCS), the Paracels and the Spratleys. Those nations disputing their rightful ownership include China, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, and Taiwan. The source of the conflict in this area stems from the geographical location and the natural resources to be gained through their ownership. According to the World Bank, the sea contains approximately 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and seven billion barrels of oil. That roughly equates to the amount of energy needed to power the entire world for an entire year. Furthermore, the sea is a center for fishing and provides most of the surrounding countries with the vast majority of their total fish supply. Finally, the SCS is a major trade route, especially for petroleum products and crude oil shipments; control of the region could easily mean absolute monopoly over shipments passing through it. China has the largest claim, with what is referred to as the Nine Dash Line . This line outlines all of the disputed islands as China s historical claims, establishing China s belief that it has the sole rights to the islands.
