The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks By Rebecca Skloot
Thievery from voracious doctors. Discrimination from a segregated society. Suffering for the
remainder of her life. Each of these obstacles like a bombshell, altering the life of a poor black woman
named Henrietta Lacks. In the New York Times bestseller novel The Immortal Life of Henrietta
Lacks, author Rebecca Skloot reveals the untold and often unknown story behind the woman whose
cells helped create some of the most profound contributions in medical history. Born and raised in
Virginia in 1920, Lacks was a typical black southerner, growing up impoverished and recovering from
the aftermath of a previous generation of slavery. It wasn t until later in her adulthood when she was
diagnosed with a severe case of cervical cancer, which rapidly deteriorated her body as doctors
applied intensive doses of radium treatments. Before she passed away in 1951, doctors removed a
sample of her tumor from her body without her or her family s knowledge or permission. This tumor
sample was crucial to the progression of medical advancements, for the cancerous cells never died in
various mediums and became the first immortal human cells in history. Scientists were eager to
experiment with the notorious HeLa cells. Doctors made millions selling HeLa by the vial. The Lacks
family was uninformed for 25 years about Henrietta s legendary cells, leaving them flummoxed,
devastated, and outraged. One of the most pressing incidents in medical history has left the world to
question concerns regarding

British Cuisine
Some time ago Somerset Maugham said that ‘to eat well in England, you should have breakfast three
times a day. To be perfectly honest, most British food was considered by many people as terrible. It
included overcooked vegetables, boring sandwiches and greasy sausages. It was definitely not an
enjoyable experience. However, these are now only stereotypes. Things have changed a lot and food
has become very important in British culture. Not only TV cooks are more famous than writers, but
also their recipes and books are well known across the Europe. The ‘New British cuisine is changing
the ‘fish and chips image and has become multicultural. There are about 80 different international
cuisines and British restaurants may compete with those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people like Italian pizza and pasta dishes.
Even though many people believe that there is nothing like typical traditional English dish and that
Britain has the fast food reputation, the traditional cuisine has survived. It is practiced mainly in the
countryside and among the British upper classes. It includes: roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, toad in
the hole, pie and mash, black pudding, roast chicken, roast lamb, bangers and mash, bubble and
squeak ploughman s lunch, hotpot, shepherds pie, Welsh faggots, syllabub, cock a leekie,
mulligatawny soup and many other. What is worth mentioning here is that some world known food
was invented in Britain. For instance, mayonnaise, HP sauce, marmite or simple sandwich. Many
people also believe that steaks originated in the USA. However, they are so much British that in the
past times British ‘elite troops were referred to as beefeaters. Additionally, Britons try to guard their
‘inventions. Traditional food and drinks are protected under European Union Law.
From the end of World War II, large numbers of population have turned vegetarian. In 2003 it was
estimated that ‘there are between 3 and 4 million vegetarians in the UK. It is one of the highest
figures noted in this time in the western world. What is more, ‘Guinness Survey of pub food done in
Jan 1991 showed that 96% of British pubs now cater for vegetarians. Though

Matthew Shepard Case Study
Introduction
Twenty one year old, University of Wyoming college gay student, Matthew Shepard, was found tied to
a fence on the Wyoming prairie, barely alive, his skull fractured and his brain stem crushed On
October 7th, 1998. Comatose, he was taken first to a Laramie hospital, then to a better equipped one in
Fort Collins, Colo., where he died five days later. Two Laramie men, Russell Henderson (21 years old)
and Aaron McKinney (22 years old), were convicted of murder and serving for two life sentencing.
Issues
1. Aaron James McKinney seemed to believe that his allegation that Shepard had made a pass at him
was sufficient grounds to justify joining with friend Russell Henderson in savagely beating Shepard,
clubbing him with a handgun, lashing him to a wooden fence and leaving him to die. McKinney s
attorney wanted the jury to accept that because McKinney has a homosexual encounter when he was
younger and that he was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol when he alleges Shepard made
a pass at him, that he was therefore not responsible for his actions.
2. Matthew Shepard Murdered By Bisexual Lover And Drug Dealer, not hate crime, Stephen Jimenez
Claims.
Stephen Jimenez, an award winning writer and TV producer, who has spent 13 years interviewing
more than 100 people with a connection to the case, found that Matthew was addicted to and dealing
crystal meth and had dabbled in heroin. Matthew s drug abuse, and the fact that he knew one of his

Franz Haydn Accomplishments
The composer that I have chosen to write about is Franz Joseph Haydn. I selected this composer over
all the rest because he is said to be the creator of the fundamental genres of classical music. Franz
Haydn is considered by some as the father of the symphony and the father of the string quartet. He
also influenced and inspired many other composers. For instance, many say Ludwig van Beethoven
was one of his pupils. Beethoven is a fundamental composer (so anyone who teaches him is, as a
result, fundamental himself). And some even go as far as saying that he was responsible for the
success of both Mozart and Beethoven. During the time that he lived (between March 31, 1732 and
May 31, 1809) the main element of music was the counterpoint. He, however,

The Reader as You
Jamaica Kincaid immerses the reader into her essay A Small Place through the use of second person
point of view, continually referring to the reader as you. She characterizes the reader as a tourist from
a privileged Western nation and narrates the experiences and thoughts of the reader while visiting
Antigua for the first time. By portraying the reader as the tourist through second person narrative,
Kincaid criticizes the ignorance of Eurocentric assumptions, as well as the total superficiality of
Western tourism. Ultimately, this technique allows her to capture her disdain for Eurocentrism,
alienating the reader from Antiguan culture.
In the first sentence of the essay, Kincaid promptly employs second person narrative by addressing the
reader, If you go to Antigua as a tourist, this is what you will see (257). Immediately, Kincaid invites
the reader into the essay, provoking the audience to imagine themselves as tourists. The reader can
relate to the tourist and can identify with the excitement of traveling to a place where the sun always
shines and the climate is deliciously hot and dry for the four to ten days you are going to be staying
there... (257). However, Kincaid then confronts the reader with the problems inherent in this
egocentric way of thinking. She proceeds to call out the reader s ignorance about the climate: since
you are a tourist, the thought of what

How Did Alexander The Great Impact Greek Culture
The Impact of Greek culture during the Hellenistic period. The definition of Hellenistic is imitating
Greece. The Hellenistic Period is known as the Time after Alexander the great spread Greek culture to
the eastern region and blended with the native culture. The Name Alexander the great is derived from
the great amount of accomplishments and military dominance that he displayed during his life.
However, some historians describe him as more of a ruthless warlord. Those who see Alexander as
aspiring autocratic monarchy present a very different portrait of him as a ruthless Machiavellian. One
has titled his biography Alexander the Great Failure. (Spielvogel 94) Alexander s Father was king
Phillip II who ruled Macedonia and after being a prisoner in Thebes developed an understanding and
admiration for Greek military and tactics. Once he was able to return to Macedonia he quickly
developed a standing army from the strongest men his country had to offer. It was with this powerful
army that he was able to conquer Greece and take control of the entire Greek peninsula. Once
Alexander was 20 his father was assassinated and he had to quickly take power and establish, he did
this by conquering the city of Thebes where a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Song To The Aten And Hymn 104 Essay
In spite of the fact that The Song to the Aten and Hymn 104 are fundamentally the same as they
contain numerous distinctions. Both of the pieces contain perplexing depictions of the force and favors
of the master. The presentations contain likenesses as the Egyptian Song depicts The Aten as
flawlessness coming soon of the sky, and Hymn 104 portrays the Master God as wearing Greatness
and radiance. Yet the primary similitude is the request of the talk. The notice of components, similar to
the sun and water are a running topic all through both pieces.
The Egyptian Psalm starts by talking about the glories of the Aten and tails this up with the notice of
the Sun (the Aten was a sun plate). Amid So be it hotep IV s rule, the one genuine god was the Aten,
this sun plate that mirrored the sun s beams. The ruler changed his name to Akhenaten, the powerful
type of the Aten. The psalm always says the force of the sun and it s association with life and passing.
The cutting edge world would not see this as unrealistic as science has demonstrated that the sun is
one of the key fixings in supporting life on this planet through photosynthesis, warmth, and light.
These are all specified in the psalm. This is trailed by the force of ... Show more content on

Character Analysis of Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby, by...
The Great Gatsby is an extraordinary novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who tells the story about the
wealthy man of Long Island named, Jay Gatsby, a middle aged man with a mysterious past, who lives
at a gothic mansion and hosts many parties with many strangers who were not entirely invited. In the
novel, The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, many characters are discussed uniquely to an
extent from the festive, yet status hungry Roaring Twenties. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald
introduces many characters who all seem to cause conflict with each other because of incompatible
personalities. The main character that F. Scott Fitzgerald sets the entire book over is Jay Gatsby,
Gatsby, is first shown as a mysterious man whose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that Gatsby seems to strangely disappear from Nick s view, and with Nick unaware of who
Jay Gatsby legitimately, this gives the character an aura of mystery. Gatsby is a mysterious unique
character that many people seem to guess who his true identity is, for example when Nick and Jordan
attend on of Gatsby s great parties Nick begins to ask Jordan questions about Gatsby where is he from,
I mean? And what does he do? Now you re started on the subject (Fitzgerald 53). This shows that
nobody fully understands who Gatsby truly is, and that although many people participate at his parties,
no one really knows who the host actually is, making Jay Gatsby mysterious as ever.
Jay Gatsby, the main character of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is also described as a man
who seemed to do anything to get what he wants, however even though what he wants he cannot
receive and this tends to hurt some of the other characters around Jay Gatsby, which makes Gatsby
seem as a stubborn man who is stubbornly in love. Gatsby shows stubbornness when he is talking to
Tom and Daisy, for example in chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby it states your wife doesn t love you, said
Gatsby quietly. She never loved you. She loves me. (Fitzgerald 137). This shows that Gatsby is so

The Blitz and St Paul s Cathedral Essay
The Blitz and St Paul s Cathedral
When the Blitz began over Britain in the fall of 1940, Londoners were frightened and unsure of what
the Nazis had in store for them. However, their uneasy emotions would later change into feelings of
nationalistic pride and perseverance, as London became a city full of active resistors to the Nazi
forces. This change would be prompted from a variety of sources, including Winston Churchill, the
media, as well as the emergence of inspirational symbols. St. Paul s Cathedral is undoubtedly the most
powerful of these symbols, becoming a timeless image associated with the Blitz, encapsulating
sentiments of hope and courage.

At least 2,000 fires erupted and transport was disrupted for days. The attacks were concentrated on the
Fleet Street area and the West End, and over 1,200 people were killed. The last massive attack took
place during the nights of May 10 and 11, 1941. The raid consisted of over 800 tons of explosives and
produced over 2,000 fires.
Prepping the City
In order to deal with the threat of the bombing of London, the British government took on a variety of
precautions. From a militaristic standpoint, the R.A.F. bomber force was built up in hope that fear of
reprisal would keep the Germans away. But when it came to the point that an attack was more than
likely, the British government sought to camouflage targets as best as they could. Individual targets
were hidden by smoke and paint during the day and a total blackout, over all of Britain and Northern
Ireland, was mandatory at night. The blackout made it difficult for the bombers to find their targets
and did result in a spreading out of the bombs, instead of concentrated attacks on selected areas.
Prepping the People
With the threat of gas, high explosives, and fire, the people of London called for protection. The
British government had plans to distribute respirators even before the war began to deal with potential
gassing. As far as dealing with bombs, the government faced a variety of problems. First, it was
estimated that there would be only seven minutes warning

Classifying Unknown Bacterial Organisms
The identification of bacteria is a fundamental objective of microbiologists. It is essential to
distinguish specific bacterial properties to understand the environment, physiology and disease. As
new bacterial species emerge and existing ones evolve into different strains, it is imperative that
microbiologists continue to isolate bacteria from the field, identify their findings and research newly
discovered forms. Their discoveries can then be used to evaluate the types of microbial life that may
be found in certain environments and the corresponding benefits or risks to those that dwell in those
areas. When studying unknown bacterial organisms, microbiologists use a wide variety of techniques
to observe the organism s traits and classify it. Many genotypic and phenotypic methods exist that aid
in the identification of known bacteria, the characterization of unknown bacteria, as well as the

Analysis Of The Book Hosea Essay
Hosea is a polemic against idolatry and spiritual infidelity in the nation of Israel while providing hope
for the repentant of restored covenant relationship with God. The author in no uncertain terms
condemns those who look to anything other than God to satisfy them or meet their needs, whether
political (5:13; 7:3 7, 8 12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), God alone is all sufficient. The author
uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically
persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from God.
He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against the people
(4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the other hand, the
author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer showcasing marital imagery
between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart and emotion of God, who declares,
My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and tender (11:8) when thinking about his
beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical (I.e. Israel has sinned, will not repent, and
thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally captivating and persuasive saga of God s
unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving.
As aforementioned, the writing of Hosea, begins as a well formed and tightly structured arrangement
but most of the discourse are repetitive and

Relation Between Stock Returns And Economic Growth
Many investors when making a decision regarding investing in a other country take into account
certain factors which may play a very important role or may affect their future returns. Standard
economics theory suggests that over the long run, profits or returns should rise in line with the
economy/ economic growth, which is also the view point of many investors when making a decision.
Although the long run research and studies conducted by different economists gives a very different
picture of the relationship between stock returns and economic growth, but very little empirical

Jay.R Ritter in his research said that the main reason for a negative correlation between the two
factors, according to him during high growth rate periods markets usually assign a high price/Earning

From all these studies and empirical evidence it can be concluded that stock returns and economic
growth are not related but have a negative correlation.
Ho= no correlation between economic growth and stock return.

On the other hand the results for interest rates give the same type of results. The basic classical
economics model suggests that there is a relationship between interest rates and economic growth.
Usually reduction in the interest rates cause the level of growth to increase, this is because a reduction
in interest rates makes borrowing more cheaper and encourages in investment in the economy, which
eventually increases the growth rate. However, an increase in interest rates has an opposite effect on
economic growth. According to (Suntum, 2008) high interest rated discourage investment as it s more
tempting to rather save the money and earn a decent interest rate, thus making the aggregate demand
to fall which then badly affects the economic growth of

The Lehman Brothers scandal is what many consider to be the catalyst that started the financial
meltdown of 2008. This paper is meant to look at what took place during the start of the meltdown and
what caused Lehman to fail. Who was involved? What caused one of the largest banking institutions
in history to fail? What could have been done differently? These are a few of the questions I d like to

was appointed CEO, Lehman shares were valued at $4/share, by 2007 at Lehman s peak, shares were
valued at a staggering $84/share. This massive growth was primarily attributed to Lehman s expansion
into other more complex investments, including credit default swaps. As defined by Investopedia, A
credit default swap is a particular type of swap designed to transfer the credit exposure of fixed
income products between two or more parties. In a credit default swap, the buyer of the swap makes
payments to the swap s seller up until the maturity date of a contract. In return, the seller agrees that,
in the event that the debt issuer defaults or experiences another credit event, the seller will pay the
buyer the security s premium as well all interest payments that would have been paid between that
time and the security s maturity date. At the time this was seen as a normal practice, but firms began to

An Age Of Wisdom And Clarity
INTRODUCTION
Everyone in the United States has had some sort of interaction with a person from the church, at a
church, in a church and has seen countless images of Jesus in various states of crucifixion to
constantly remind you of his sacrifice, a promise to you that you are forgiven and you have a place in
heaven. Now, this essay is not for everyone, some people cannot function without a crutch, or life is so
bad this is the only escape from reality that is possible, this essay is for those who like me as a child
was so confused about the Christian religion, but could never isolate those reasons until entering an
age of wisdom and clarity.
His Birth
Jesus s birth story is known by us all in some form or other. His birth is celebrated in countless songs,
and festooned, mangered, and otherwise decorated to include gifting friends and family. Amen.
Beginning this story and journey wise men, most say three, correlated by the three extravagant gifts.
Three wise men followed a star which took them to the palace of King Herod, where the King said he
had heard the Lord s baby was born in Bethlehem. Grabbing up the gifts befitting a heavenly child, the
men head off to Bethlehem to find the Christ child. Quickly these wise men traverse to Bethlehem and
discover the Christ child in a manger with his mother, and the guy married to his mom. Everyone can
see a manger with its clean straw mother and husband around a baby with animals and three guys with
presents.

Water Hardness Of Water Solubility
Not all water is alike. In fact, water contains minerals that change its properties. According to the
University of Washington in St. hard water is hard water is water that contains cations with a charge of
+2, especially Ca2+ and Mg2+ 1. Water picks up these Ca2+ and Mg2+ cations as it moves through
soil and interacts with sedimentary rock undergoing a process known as dissolution. Water hardness
values can be represented in numerous ways, including milligrams per liter, parts per million, and
grains per gallon. The water hardness value becomes greater with the increase in concentration of
these cations2. The water hardness in State College, PA is rather high due to the location of the town
being on a large amount of limestone3. Water hardness is significant because of the effect it can have
in our homes but more importantly industries. Water hardness has an effect on the efficiency of soap
and can leave mineral deposits on your dishes. The biggest problems that water hardness creates are
these mineral deposits that it leaves behind. These mineral deposits are known as scale formation.
When water is boiled and evaporates, this solid substance called scale forms. It most commonly
hardens on pipes, tubes, large industrial boilers, and other appliances. Scale blocks the flow of water
and clogs pipes, decreases heat transfer efficiency in boilers, and can lead to weakness in structures.
This scale formation is also particularly difficult and expensive to remove4. As stated

The Relationship Between E. Coli Growth
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a bacteria that commonly live in the gastrointestinal tract of humans
making it relevant to our population. The majority of E. coli strains is harmless, but it has the potential
to form a potent strain that possesses serious health risks. When encountering this potent strain, one
can experience health problems such as diarrhea or urinary tract infections. It is important to be able to
determine when someone is being affected by the harmful strains of E. coli and how antibiotics affect
them in order to keep the strain from cultivating further. Current scientific knowledge about the
relationship between E. coli growth and antibiotics supports the idea that with the presence of
antibiotics, the growth of E. coli is

Essay On Eastern European Human Trafficking
Eastern Europe: The Trafficking of People Slavery is when individuals are possessed and controlled
by different persons, and they have limited to no freedom. In Eastern Europe slavery ended in 1528,
but human trafficking has been carrying on for myriads of years. A few decrees did not stop the
appalling crime called human trafficking. By definition human trafficking is current day slavery;
people that are victims are confined and worked until they are physically incapable to any longer.
Many people turn a blind eye to human trafficking. Despite the insignificant efforts of various
governments, Eastern European human trafficking is on the rise, contributing to an increase in the
economic exploration of the victims of human trafficking.
The state of human trafficking has developed through the decade and there has been an increase. In the
year 2000 only eight cases of human trafficking were recorded, soon after in 2008, there were thirty
seven cases reported in forty of the European countries(Sarrica 5). Of those forty countries, ... Show

Taking Down Tyrants Analysis
Taking Down Tyrants Give me liberty or give me death, Patrick Henry. The pursuit of of their freedom
is the current mission of the American Army, who find means to standby their cause through
hardships. It s 1777 and there s a war between between the Americans and the British. George
Washington, the leader of the continental army, has struggled to keep his soldiers fighting for their
freedom. He is keeping his troops in Valley Forge, 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia, where the
British are located. My 9 month enlistment will be over on February 1st, , and I have to decide to stay
or go. I m going to stay for these three reasons. To be loyal to my country, to motivate and lift the
spirits of my fellow soldiers, and fight for my country. I m going to stay and fight because it means I

In one of the analogies of The American Crisis he states, if being bound in that manner is not slavery,
there is not such a thing as slavery on Earth (Paine.) Just the fact alone that he is comparing Britain s
rule with slavery is enough to make you think that they don t treat us Americans well. It makes the

My Assumptions Regarding Educational Facilities
Chicano Studies
Question #1
There are a lot of ideas and concepts that have caused me to rethink my assumptions regarding
educational facilities as well as the teaching processes. I must admit that I have gained an extreme
amount of knowledge in a lot of areas from the courses readings and the different lectures. I have
become aware of the leaks that affect the education system. The statistics from the Chicano students
were quite expected. Before, I thought that the number of kids in school would increase they will
notice the importance of these educational centers. The statistics show that only a few of the admitted
students will manage to graduate a degree. Solorzano and Yasso clearly brought up the conditions that
tend to affect the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ability to distribute teachers based on race is quite degrading. Some of the teachers in the Chicano
schools lack basic training in multicultural and bilingual education. This information explains why
Chicano students are under enrolled in institutions of higher learning.
I have also learned that some schools tend to divert from their original objectives which are rather
unfortunate. The educational institutions have failed to address the structural inequalities effectively. A
lot of schools still rely on the high stakes assessments and standardized curriculum. These teaching
methods are likely to spread less knowledge to the students. I can conclude that some of the teaching
processes in the Chicano schools are to blame for the poor performance of students. The findings from
the two authors also explain why only a few students manage to graduate with degrees. From the
readings, I have noted that schools have learning environments that differ. They also impact the
performance of children directly. Poor access to financial resources, qualified teachers, and other
support services is likely to guarantee the students failure. The racial climate also affects schools and
makes the children think of themselves as lesser beings. Schools should be open to change instead of
been isolated from the outside world. The policy recommendation from Yasso and Solorzano were
also quite informed and can help improve the performance of schools.

P.K. Dick’s The Minority Report and Steven Spielberg’s...
P.K. Dick s The Minority Report and Steven Spielberg s The Minority Report
Death can occur in four ways. A person can die from a physical illness, viruses and infections. A
person can die from an accident. A person can commit suicide. Finally a person can be murdered by
another person. What if murders could be prevented? In P.K. Dick s story The Minority Report, and in
Spielberg s film The Minority Report, the future can be altered by using incredible technology. The
success of Spielberg s adaptation of Dick s short story to film can be determined by the way each was
presented.
While giving a tour or precrime to Edward Witwer, the main character John Anderton finds the he is
supposed to kill a person he never met Leopold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Minority Report by Spielberg is about a one man conspiracy to keep pre crime up and running. In
the book by Dick, there is a larger conspiracy to destroy precrime. The final results are opposite as
well; in the book precrime was maintained and still operational. In the movie, precrime was shut down
and destroyed. The methods of precrime are also different. In the book, there are three precogs which
mutter an indecipherable language, which a machine interprets into images of a murder. Then a card
comes out of the machine with the name of the killer and name of the victim on it. Spielberg made a
more modern method out of this. In the movie, images are taken directly from the three precogs brain
and then interpreted by a person who tries to find out the location of the murder. Also there are two
wooden balls made, one with the name of the killer and the other with the name of the victim, on
them. The movie also goes deeper into the creation of precrime, how crack babies whom had an odd
gift/curse of dreaming of murder became used to prevent murder. It also shows why Anderton joined
precrime, to make sure no one else would suffer like he did when he lost his son. The precogs in the
book and movie are very different. First off their names in the book are Donna, Jerry and Mike. In the
movie their names are Agatha, Arthur and Dashiell. The movie also involves the precogs, or at least
one of them, more into the story.

Essay On Operation Enduring Freedom
On September 10th 2001 a cold front swept through the East Coast with rain and thunderstorms that
would leave behind a cool clear morning on September 11, 2001. That morning started as normally as
any other Tuesday of the year. The sun shined and the birds were singing. Children headed for school,
as adults set out for work. There was no foreshadowing or any warning of what was to come. The
morning routine of a bustling New York City was well into a rhythm, when the world that Americans
knew, was brought to its knees, and would forever be changed.
At 8:45 a.m., Eastern Time, out of the sky hurdled, toward Manhattan, an airplane. The American
Airlines flight 11 was a Boeing 767 airliner that was flying uncharacteristically low. At 8:46 a.m., the

Operation Enduring Freedom started on October 20th 2001, Operation Enduring Freedom was part of

attack on 9/11; it came swiftly and was very harsh in nature. In total 2,380 American troops would
lose their lives to the conflict. The objective of the war was to free the regions of focus from the grips
of extremist ideology and rule. Operation Enduring Freedom was gateway to another Middle East
conflict that would begin to liberate a people from the oppressive rule of a sadistic dictator. Operation
Iraqi Freedom was started in order to liberate the Iraqi people from the rule of Saddam Hussein and
also to remove possible weapons of mass destruction from the unstable control of said ruler. The

New Mexican Culture Essay
From January 20 to 23, I went to Santa Fe and San Ildefonso in New Mexico with Dr. Laughlin and
my classmates. I was totally surprised by the architecture of the housing and the rich collection of
Native American cultures. I expected to see traditional suburbs but instead I found almost everyone
has built houses resembling traditional adobe homes which I had never seen. Houses, businesses,
government buildings including museums are almost built in this style. The colors seem to blend in
with the desert. One of the most exciting events I attended in New Mexico was the museum

I actually encountered with many vaguely familiar words when studying Native Americans cultures
such as Kachina, Sacagawea, and Maria Montoya Martinez. Both Zunian and Japanese are unique and
distinct from all the world s languages, and I believe that there is language connection between Zuni
and Japanese.
Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching
traditions to younger generations. As time progresses, the quality and amount of language spoken is
affected by other languages such as English and Spanish. However, all generations can speak both
Zunian and English fluently today (5). The Zunian traditionally learned from elders and parents by
words of mouth. Many projects have been established to transform the knowledge communicated in
spoken language to written form such as books. The language is incorporated into teaching methods in
public schools and other cultural resources. For instance, the Zuni literacy program was introduced
into the School District in 1989. The Zuni Public School District media centers were awarded an
electronic storage to restore Zunian language from Apple as part of its Apple Library of Tomorrow
Program. According to the official website of the Zuni tribe, this equipment has allowed the district to
begin production of both print and electronic versions of the first bilingual Zuni English Dictionary.

My Landslide Poem Meaning
The song Landslide performed by Fleetwood Mac has been a piece of my life for as long as I can
remember. I recall my sisters and I sitting at our kitchen table in Orlando reciting the words to the
song as easily as reading a book. Once we moved to Connecticut, this song still stayed apart of our
lives and I have continued to listen to this song consistently to this day. Over the years, the meaning of
the song has adapted to what I was going on to in life. As I grew older, the song gained more meaning
than when I would listen to it as child. When I was younger, around the age of five, the song did not
have much meaning to me. It was simply another song with a catchy melody. I truly did not
understand the point the artist was attempting to get across to the listener through the metaphors in the
lyrics. The meaning behind it was alien to me. I would sing the words, but the significance behind the
words I sang rung blank in my brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

may get bad grades. They reminded me that our high school was three times as big as the middle
school. With that, they also told me that I may get overwhelmed but was nothing I could do about it
and I had to go no matter what. In the song, the songwriter questions her ability to handle the next part
of her life. She asks herself if she can handle whatever life has to throw at her even if it does get hard.

Margaret Sanger s Life And Life
Margaret Sanger was born in Corning, New York on September 14, 1879 [3] as Margaret Louise
Higgins. [1] Her father, Michael Higgins, originally studied phrenology and other medical practices,
but eventually moved to being a stone cutter. Her mother, Anne Higgins, was born in Ireland, and her
family moved to Canada during the Potato Famine. In 1869 Michael married Anne and she went
through 18 pregnancies, only 11 of which lived. [3] Margaret was the sixth child in this long line and
spent her time doing chores and looking after the younger children. Her older two older sisters
supported her when she started attending school at Claverack College and Hudson River Institute. [2]
When her mother was 50 years old, she passed away and Margaret blamed her mother s frequent
childbearing and poverty for her death. At the age of 21, Margaret started taking classes at the White
Plains Hospital as a nurse probationer. Not even two years later, in 1902, she married William Sanger
and quit her schooling. Later in 1913, Margaret and William filed for divorce but it wasn t finalized

La Stratégie de Gamme Au Sein de L’entreprise

La stratégie de gamme au sein de l entreprise
Introduction :
Une gamme de produit est la réponse de l entreprise aux besoins détectés sur le marché. Qu elle soit

Dostoevsky Compare Contrast Essay
Renowned Russian Writers, Yevgeny Zamyatin and Fyodor Dostoevsky, implement the same ideas of
a dystopian society in their novels We and Brothers Karamazov. The two disturbing societies have a
profound effect on all characters, which creates different reactions from the protagonists of each
novel, D 503 and Ivan. Zamyatin introduces a dominating society in We, that forces views upon its
vulnerable people who are not emotionally stable enough to acknowledge their own lack of power and
freedom. Dostoevsky, author of Brothers Karamazov, specifically presents a character s intricate,
fictional story of the Grand Inquisitor that explains how God created a problem by the choices he
made, allowing the church to be influenced by the devil while also making the simulated society
accept control by the upper class. Although the Grand Inquisitor was a fictional story made up by the
main character, Ivan allows the fake ideas to consume his mind, altering how he sees the real world.

boundaries of the One State. When describing her, D 503 claims, I 330...She irritates and repels me,

In the following paper I will be in detail explaining the academic experience of visiting and observing

at Charlotte. I started to look up different churches in the area of Catholic churches in Charlotte and
this was the first church to appear to me on the internet. I decided to go to the 9:30 mass or also called
a liturgy on a Sunday. I did look over the churches scheduled masses and they had them everyday of
the week. I arrived there about ten minutes before 9:30 dressed appropriately in a skirt and a dressy
shirt, so that I could follow and respect the instructions of the pamphlet that the church provided
online. I parked my car and gathered my tablet and sat in the back pews, so that I could take notes
quietly. Before the service started I looked over the papers and booklet that the church provided to see
what it included. The booklet included a letter from the priest, readings for the week from the bible,

  • 2. The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks By Rebecca Skloot Thievery from voracious doctors. Discrimination from a segregated society. Suffering for the remainder of her life. Each of these obstacles like a bombshell, altering the life of a poor black woman named Henrietta Lacks. In the New York Times bestseller novel The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, author Rebecca Skloot reveals the untold and often unknown story behind the woman whose cells helped create some of the most profound contributions in medical history. Born and raised in Virginia in 1920, Lacks was a typical black southerner, growing up impoverished and recovering from the aftermath of a previous generation of slavery. It wasn t until later in her adulthood when she was diagnosed with a severe case of cervical cancer, which rapidly deteriorated her body as doctors applied intensive doses of radium treatments. Before she passed away in 1951, doctors removed a sample of her tumor from her body without her or her family s knowledge or permission. This tumor sample was crucial to the progression of medical advancements, for the cancerous cells never died in various mediums and became the first immortal human cells in history. Scientists were eager to experiment with the notorious HeLa cells. Doctors made millions selling HeLa by the vial. The Lacks family was uninformed for 25 years about Henrietta s legendary cells, leaving them flummoxed, devastated, and outraged. One of the most pressing incidents in medical history has left the world to question concerns regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. British Cuisine Some time ago Somerset Maugham said that ‘to eat well in England, you should have breakfast three times a day. To be perfectly honest, most British food was considered by many people as terrible. It included overcooked vegetables, boring sandwiches and greasy sausages. It was definitely not an enjoyable experience. However, these are now only stereotypes. Things have changed a lot and food has become very important in British culture. Not only TV cooks are more famous than writers, but also their recipes and books are well known across the Europe. Even though many people believe that there is nothing like typical traditional English dish and that Britain has the fast food reputation, the traditional cuisine has survived. It is practiced mainly in the countryside and among the British upper classes. It includes: roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, toad in the hole, pie and mash, black pudding, roast chicken, roast lamb, bangers and mash, bubble and squeak ploughman s lunch, hotpot, shepherds pie, Welsh faggots, syllabub, cock a leekie, mulligatawny soup and many other. What is worth mentioning here is that some world known food was invented in Britain. For instance, mayonnaise, HP sauce, marmite or simple sandwich. Many people also believe that steaks originated in the USA. However, they are so much British that in the past times British ‘elite troops were referred to as beefeaters. Additionally, Britons try to guard their ‘inventions. Traditional food and drinks are protected under European Union Law. From the end of World War II, large numbers of population have turned vegetarian. In 2003 it was estimated that ‘there are between 3 and 4 million vegetarians in the UK. It is one of the highest figures noted in this time in the western world. What is more, ‘Guinness Survey of pub food done in Jan 1991 showed that 96% of British pubs now cater for vegetarians. • 4. Matthew Shepard Case Study Introduction Twenty one year old, University of Wyoming college gay student, Matthew Shepard, was found tied to a fence on the Wyoming prairie, barely alive, his skull fractured and his brain stem crushed On October 7th, 1998. Comatose, he was taken first to a Laramie hospital, then to a better equipped one in Fort Collins, Colo., where he died five days later. Two Laramie men, Russell Henderson (21 years old) and Aaron McKinney (22 years old), were convicted of murder and serving for two life sentencing. Issues 1. Aaron James McKinney seemed to believe that his allegation that Shepard had made a pass at him was sufficient grounds to justify joining with friend Russell Henderson in savagely beating Shepard, clubbing him with a handgun, lashing him to a wooden fence and leaving him to die. McKinney s attorney wanted the jury to accept that because McKinney has a homosexual encounter when he was younger and that he was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol when he alleges Shepard made a pass at him, that he was therefore not responsible for his actions. 2. • 6. Franz Haydn Accomplishments The composer that I have chosen to write about is Franz Joseph Haydn. I selected this composer over all the rest because he is said to be the creator of the fundamental genres of classical music. Franz Haydn is considered by some as the father of the symphony and the father of the string quartet. He also influenced and inspired many other composers. For instance, many say Ludwig van Beethoven was one of his pupils. Beethoven is a fundamental composer (so anyone who teaches him is, as a result, fundamental himself). And some even go as far as saying that he was responsible for the success of both Mozart and Beethoven. During the time that he lived (between March 31, 1732 and May 31, 1809) the main element of music was the counterpoint. He, however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis Of The Reader A Small Place Maddie Wiersma Dr. Nicole Sheets EL 347: Creative Nonfiction 11 November 2015 The Reader as You Jamaica Kincaid immerses the reader into her essay A Small Place through the use of second person point of view, continually referring to the reader as you. She characterizes the reader as a tourist from a privileged Western nation and narrates the experiences and thoughts of the reader while visiting Antigua for the first time. By portraying the reader as the tourist through second person narrative, Kincaid criticizes the ignorance of Eurocentric assumptions, as well as the total superficiality of Western tourism. Ultimately, this technique allows her to capture her disdain for Eurocentrism, alienating the reader from Antiguan culture. In the first sentence of the essay, Kincaid promptly employs second person narrative by addressing the reader, If you go to Antigua as a tourist, this is what you will see (257). Immediately, Kincaid invites the reader into the essay, provoking the audience to imagine themselves as tourists. The reader can relate to the tourist and can identify with the excitement of traveling to a place where the sun always shines and the climate is deliciously hot and dry for the four to ten days you are going to be staying there... (257). However, Kincaid then confronts the reader with the problems inherent in this egocentric way of thinking. She proceeds to call out the reader s ignorance about the climate: since you are a tourist, the thought of what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Hellenistic Period is known as the Time after Alexander the great spread Greek culture to the eastern region and blended with the native culture. The Name Alexander the great is derived from the great amount of accomplishments and military dominance that he displayed during his life. However, some historians describe him as more of a ruthless warlord. Those who see Alexander as aspiring autocratic monarchy present a very different portrait of him as a ruthless Machiavellian. One has titled his biography Alexander the Great Failure. Once he was able to return to Macedonia he quickly developed a standing army from the strongest men his country had to offer. Both of the pieces contain perplexing depictions of the force and favors of the master. The presentations contain likenesses as the Egyptian Song depicts The Aten as flawlessness coming soon of the sky, and Hymn 104 portrays the Master God as wearing Greatness and radiance. Yet the primary similitude is the request of the talk. The notice of components, similar to the sun and water are a running topic all through both pieces. The Egyptian Psalm starts by talking about the glories of the Aten and tails this up with the notice of the Sun (the Aten was a sun plate). Amid So be it hotep IV s rule, the one genuine god was the Aten, this sun plate that mirrored the sun s beams. The ruler changed his name to Akhenaten, the powerful type of the Aten. • 14. Analysis Of The Book Hosea Essay Hosea is a polemic against idolatry and spiritual infidelity in the nation of Israel while providing hope for the repentant of restored covenant relationship with God. The author in no uncertain terms condemns those who look to anything other than God to satisfy them or meet their needs, whether political (5:13; 7:3 7, 8 12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), God alone is all sufficient. The author uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from God. He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against the people (4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the other hand, the author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer showcasing marital imagery between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart and emotion of God, who declares, My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and tender (11:8) when thinking about his beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical (I.e. Israel has sinned, will not repent, and thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally captivating and persuasive saga of God s unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving. In the book, there are three precogs which mutter an indecipherable language, which a machine interprets into images of a murder. Then a card comes out of the machine with the name of the killer and name of the victim on it. Spielberg made a more modern method out of this. In the movie, images are taken directly from the three precogs brain and then interpreted by a person who tries to find out the location of the murder. Also there are two wooden balls made, one with the name of the killer and the other with the name of the victim, on them. The movie also goes deeper into the creation of precrime, how crack babies whom had an odd gift/curse of dreaming of murder became used to prevent murder. It also shows why Anderton joined precrime, to make sure no one else would suffer like he did when he lost his son. The precogs in the book and movie are very different. First off their names in the book are Donna, Jerry and Mike. In the movie their names are Agatha, Arthur and Dashiell. The movie also involves the precogs, or at least one of them, more into the story. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Essay On Operation Enduring Freedom On September 10th 2001 a cold front swept through the East Coast with rain and thunderstorms that would leave behind a cool clear morning on September 11, 2001. That morning started as normally as any other Tuesday of the year. The sun shined and the birds were singing. Children headed for school, as adults set out for work. There was no foreshadowing or any warning of what was to come. The morning routine of a bustling New York City was well into a rhythm, when the world that Americans knew, was brought to its knees, and would forever be changed. At 8:45 a.m., Eastern Time, out of the sky hurdled, toward Manhattan, an airplane. The American Airlines flight 11 was a Boeing 767 airliner that was flying uncharacteristically low. At 8:46 a.m., the plane struck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was the response to the attack on 9/11; it came swiftly and was very harsh in nature. In total 2,380 American troops would lose their lives to the conflict. The objective of the war was to free the regions of focus from the grips of extremist ideology and rule. Operation Enduring Freedom was gateway to another Middle East conflict that would begin to liberate a people from the oppressive rule of a sadistic dictator. Operation Iraqi Freedom was started in order to liberate the Iraqi people from the rule of Saddam Hussein and also to remove possible weapons of mass destruction from the unstable control of said ruler. The conflict, which claimed the lives of 4,491 American troops, began on March 20th 2003 and ended on December 18th 2011. • 29. New Mexican Culture Essay From January 20 to 23, I went to Santa Fe and San Ildefonso in New Mexico with Dr. Laughlin and my classmates. I was totally surprised by the architecture of the housing and the rich collection of Native American cultures. I expected to see traditional suburbs but instead I found almost everyone has built houses resembling traditional adobe homes which I had never seen. Houses, businesses, government buildings including museums are almost built in this style. The colors seem to blend in with the desert. One of the most exciting events I attended in New Mexico was the museum presentation of the Zuni tribe. Although we actually did not meet the Zuni tribe, we learned a lot about them because Dawn Kaufmann who is a guide at the Museum of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I actually encountered with many vaguely familiar words when studying Native Americans cultures such as Kachina, Sacagawea, and Maria Montoya Martinez. Both Zunian and Japanese are unique and distinct from all the world s languages, and I believe that there is language connection between Zuni and Japanese. Moreover, Zunian is not only the language and a way of communication; it also helps in teaching traditions to younger generations. As time progresses, the quality and amount of language spoken is affected by other languages such as English and Spanish. However, all generations can speak both Zunian and English fluently today (5). The Zunian traditionally learned from elders and parents by words of mouth. Many projects have been established to transform the knowledge communicated in spoken language to written form such as books. The language is incorporated into teaching methods in public schools and other cultural resources. For instance, the Zuni literacy program was introduced into the School District in 1989. The Zuni Public School District media centers were awarded an electronic storage to restore Zunian language from Apple as part of its Apple Library of Tomorrow Program. According to the official website of the Zuni tribe, this equipment has allowed the district to begin production of both print and electronic versions of the first bilingual Zuni English Dictionary. • 30. My Landslide Poem Meaning The song Landslide performed by Fleetwood Mac has been a piece of my life for as long as I can remember. I recall my sisters and I sitting at our kitchen table in Orlando reciting the words to the song as easily as reading a book. Once we moved to Connecticut, this song still stayed apart of our lives and I have continued to listen to this song consistently to this day. Over the years, the meaning of the song has adapted to what I was going on to in life. As I grew older, the song gained more meaning than when I would listen to it as child. When I was younger, around the age of five, the song did not have much meaning to me. It was simply another song with a catchy melody. I truly did not understand the point the artist was attempting to get across to the listener through the metaphors in the lyrics. The meaning behind it was alien to me. I would sing the words, but the significance behind the words I sang rung blank in my brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was scared and did not know what to expect for this next step in my life. At this time, I was incredibly insecure. My older sisters and brother always told me that freshman year was when things begin to change. You may make new friends, you may lose friends, you may get good grades, and you may get bad grades. They reminded me that our high school was three times as big as the middle school. With that, they also told me that I may get overwhelmed but was nothing I could do about it and I had to go no matter what. In the song, the songwriter questions her ability to handle the next part of her life. She asks herself if she can handle whatever life has to throw at her even if it does get hard. This part of the song really spoke to me. It showed me that everyone is vulnerable at times, and it is a normal feeling when parts of your life are starting as well as ... • 31. Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti Essay Cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti The poem cousin Kate by Christina Rossetti is about a young girl who falls in love with a great lord (a rich and powerful man), but then he leaves her for her cousin. Eventually she finds out that she is pregnant (cousin Kate) but had to deal with the consequences all by herself. As the great lord does not want to be involved in a baby when not married (this was highly disrespected at this time). It is set sometimes during the 1800 s and a young cottage maiden was living a happy life with her friends, but she was taken away by a powerful man. Just like a glove, which eventually got dirty or out of fashion…he trades her in for something fresh, something he still respects. She feels like a unclean thing as she had sex with him before they wed, in which those days was disgraceful. Plus where she could have kept pure, like a virgin or a dove (symbol of purity) she has now lost that, maybe she feels it s her fault. She sees herself as a disrespected member of public. People in those days would of crossed the road if they had seen her coming, not looking or talking to her in any way. The neighbors call you good and pure, Call me an outcast thing. I like this line the most, as it shows you how much of an outcast she is, purely because of getting pregnant. • 34. Dostoevsky Compare Contrast Essay Renowned Russian Writers, Yevgeny Zamyatin and Fyodor Dostoevsky, implement the same ideas of a dystopian society in their novels We and Brothers Karamazov. The two disturbing societies have a profound effect on all characters, which creates different reactions from the protagonists of each novel, D 503 and Ivan. Zamyatin introduces a dominating society in We, that forces views upon its vulnerable people who are not emotionally stable enough to acknowledge their own lack of power and freedom. Dostoevsky, author of Brothers Karamazov, specifically presents a character s intricate, fictional story of the Grand Inquisitor that explains how God created a problem by the choices he made, allowing the church to be influenced by the devil while also making the simulated society accept control by the upper class. Although the Grand Inquisitor was a fictional story made up by the main character, Ivan allows the fake ideas to consume his mind, altering how he sees the real world. Though Zamyatin and ... • 36. The Philosophy Of Emile Durkheim And The Roman Catholic... In the following paper I will be in detail explaining the academic experience of visiting and observing a Roman Catholic Church and lastly I will shortly also incorporate the theory of Emile Durkheim and the Roman Catholic Church I completed a field study on. For my site visit I visited St Thomas Aquinas Church in Charlotte, North Carolina off of Suther road near the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I started to look up different churches in the area of Catholic churches in Charlotte and this was the first church to appear to me on the internet. I decided to go to the 9:30 mass or also called a liturgy on a Sunday. I did look over the churches scheduled masses and they had them everyday of the week. I arrived there about ten minutes before 9:30 dressed appropriately in a skirt and a dressy shirt, so that I could follow and respect the instructions of the pamphlet that the church provided online. I parked my car and gathered my tablet and sat in the back pews, so that I could take notes quietly. Before the service started I looked over the papers and booklet that the church provided to see what it included. The booklet included a letter from the priest, readings for the week from the bible, hymnals from the Vatican, mass intentions, prayer requests, stewardships, ministries, confirmations, and the priests and deacons as follows Rev. Patrick Winslow, Rev. Jason Christian, Rev. Matthew Kauth, and Deacons Rev. Mr. James Witulski, Rev. Mr. Joseph Diaz. I walked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
