Richard Wright s Autobiography Of A Black Boy In The US
A autobiography called Black Boy, by Richard Wright was written seventy five years ago. In his
autobiography, he tackled some of the issues that are currently still happening in the United States. As
a child, when Wright went to school and worked at different jobs, he d seen a much of the racial
discrimination, violence and unemployment along with other forms of racial inequality. Although
racial discrimination, stereotyping and unemployment have decreased in the United States, it is still an
active problem that people of color face. If Wright was alive in 2018, writing a novel about a black
boy in United States, he would write about the racial discrimination, stereotyping and unemployment
the black boy would have to go through. As a kid, he went through the same things and would
understand their frustrations that the black boy has to face in the United States.
The first problem that colored and black people currently still face in the United States of 2018, is
racial discrimination. In the article by Priscilla DeGregory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the autobiography Black Boy, Wright was stopped and threatened by a white policeman one night
and told to not deliver packages at night because the white policeman had seen the color of his skin
and automatically assumed he was trouble which proves that the police officer was racially
stereotyping him. He would be mad because despite racial stereotyping decreasing, it is still present in
the United States. This causes him to write about racial stereotyping in his novel about a black boy
living in the United States in 2018 because he can relate to what black and colored people feel when
they re stopped and frisked by the NYPD for wearing clothes commonly used in a crime and having a

Workplace Discrimination And Its Effects On Social...
Workplace discrimination is still prevalent and could have disastrous effects on social cohesion and
political stability if it continues unchecked. While the most blatant forms of discrimination at work
may have faded, many remain a persistent and daily part of the workplace, or are taking on more
subtle forms. Every day, around the world, discrimination at work is an unfortunate reality for
hundreds of millions of people. Women are by far the largest discriminated group, with the pay gap
between the sexes still significant in most countries. Racial discrimination also persists, though older
theories of the purported superiority of one racial or ethnic group over another have been replaced by
allegations that foreign and incompatible cultures may have disruptive effects on the integrity of
national identities. New forms of discrimination based on disability, HIV/AIDS, age or sexual
orientation have now become cause for growing concern.
Inequalities within discriminated groups are widening. Affirmative action policies, for example,
helped create a new middle class of formerly discriminated persons in some countries. A few rise to
the top of the social ladder, while most remain among the low paid and socially excluded.
Discrimination often traps people in low paid, informal economy jobs. The discriminated are often
stuck in the worst jobs, and denied benefits, social protection, training, capital, land or credit. Women
are more likely than men to be engaged in these more

Milkman s Use Of Contrast And Mirror Images In Chapter Five
Chapter 5 presents a series of contrasts and mirror images that reflect the tenuous relationships
between various characters and provide conflicting perspectives on love, sex, and survival.
Milkman s pondering his impending death at the hands of Hagar, his distraught ex lover, at the
beginning of the chapter evokes many similar references to the presence of death throughout the
novel. For example, note that Milkman s picturing his own death as a spurt of wine red blood
foreshadows Hagar s funeral scene at the end of Chapter 13, when a sympathetic wino drops his liquor
bottle, spurting emerald glass and jungle red wine everywhere. Resigned to let Hagar kill him if she
wants to and can, Milkman is almost exhilarated by thoughts of death:

Life at a Medieval University
Life at a medieval university for clerics was in many regards similar to our present day college
experience. When college was in session, life was basically split into two categories; life in the books,
and life outside the books if you will. Scholars needed to focus their attention to the tasks at hand
during learning hours. As we know today, the more time you spend studying, the better grades you ll
achieve. On the other hand, scholars needed a release from the daily grind of constant academic
involvement. This may have included some popular pastimes such as drinking, gambling, and
wreaking havoc downtown (nothing a modern student would do). The scholars experienced many of
the problems that modern day collegians deal with as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you were at a university at this time, you would follow the religious standards, just as I could never
get out of going to Friday mass at HGA. Nowadays, religion is a touchy topic. It is left to the
discretion of the individual whether or not he or she wants to follow the practices and how closely.
Church and state are now separated as to avoid major conflicts. Peter Abelard questions the
theological teachings of medieval universities and is criticized for it. He says Is God one, or no? At
this time scriptures were not to be questioned and were considered to be true. As we know now,
science has become a major source of answers in society. Anyway, Abelard brings a whole new
dimension to the table when he questions god s existence and some of the things that the church stands
for. The whole basis is to use logic and reason to ponder things in a philosophical fashion. This faith
vs. reason debate involved Abelard and others who felt that god was in a persons being, or heart.
Academia took up most of the students daily and weekly lives. Scholars took full advantage of down
time to relax and enjoy themselves. Social life was the second major aspect of a cleric s university
experience. As we know, the student body greatly impacts the surrounding town s economy; however
social issues arise as well. When students and townspeople are in the same atmosphere, and drinking,
fights are bound to break lose. These battles came to be known

Hate Crime Essay
The term hate crime developed in the early 1980s by reporters and government officials such as John
Conyers and Mario Biaggi. Even though the interest of hate crimes has increased in recent
developments, it has deep historic roots that dates back into time. Statistics of U.S. history has shown
that assaults, murders, and acts of vandalism has stemmed from hatred. The first hate crime victims
were Native Americans and since then almost all U.S. immigrants have been exposed to violence,
discrimination, and harassment.
There are many various definitions of the key word hate crimes, but in general terms hate crimes is a
carefully thought about illegal act against a person, property, or an organization that is roused by the
guilty party s bias ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This legislation can empower the federal government to more effectively protect Americans from bias
crimes and to step in when local law enforcement agencies either cannot or will not act to stop hate
(Roleff 105). However, for those who believe that hate crimes are not as significant as some may
think, they have been shooting down the idea that hate crime laws should form in the U.S.
government. Some consider that this matter is an overstated issue a result that the public is touchy to
discrimination or prejudice. Other arguments against legislation of hate crime laws include that they
don t encourage people to stop participating in this type of criminal act and in fact encourage
additional discrimination and marginalization. A federal hate crime law can be used to protect only
certain groups and punish only certain crimes as hate crimes (Roleff 113). There was a case in the
1990s where one black man who attacked a white man got a less severe prison sentence over a black
man who beat another black man. Situations such as this one can make it seem like some kinds of hate
are more unlawful than others.
There is little research that examines how prejudice turns into violent action. However, research has
examined a characteristic profile that describes common perpetrators and types of hate crime
offenders. Contrary to the common way of thinking, most hate crimes aren t devoted by people who
belong to hate

Difference Between Liberalism And Anarchism
The multiple strands of both liberalism and anarchism prevent any continuous agreement between the
main ideas of the two ideologies. The fundamental belief that mankind comprises rational free
thinking individuals is common to both view points. However, the level to which the individual can be
trusted differs between the two. Anarchists place greater emphasis on the ability for individuals to
excel without the interference of an overarching body. Liberals argue that the state is a needed device
to ensure that the liberty of each individual is maintained and not limited by other individuals. Liberals
believe that individuals are rational and able to recognise their own self interest, this being the main
reason why liberals support high levels of individual freedom only constrained to some extent by the
state. Liberal individualism, especially within classical liberalism, means that individuals are atomistic
and that they will act rationally in support of their own self interest rather than in the interests of
society as a whole. Although the liberal adoption of laissez faire economics promotes an atomistic
view on individuals, it also argues that an atomistic approach to economics will benefit the entirety of
society. However, modern liberals have developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, both ideologies struggle to have a distinct set of agreed ideas and therefore a clean
comparison of the key ideas of each ideology is difficult. The various anarchist views of economic
systems fundamentally disagree with the economic principles of both classical and modern liberalism.
Although both have a positive outlook on human nature they disagree on the extent to which humans
require a structure within which to operate. Anarchism can therefore be seen as the extreme liberal and
extreme socialist forms of liberalism. Anarchism, in all forms, is the critique of the centrist liberal

The Prince Of Tides By Pat Conroy
The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy is a compelling narrative in which an ordinary southern South
Carolina family, the Wingos, experience extraordinary circumstances deeply rooted in the canticles of
childhood affliction. It is a narrative of survival; survival of familial bonds, mortality, and unaffected
love when the Wingo parents, Lila and Henry Wingo, thoughtlessly wreak havoc on the fragile lives of
their children: Tom, Luke, and Savannah Wingo. It is a story of sand dollars, marsh tides, shrimp,
marsh hens, meandering boats through the salt marsh of Colleton, and everything the South Carolina
sun imprints upon permanently. Most importantly, The Prince of Tides is the story of Tom Wingo, a
white Southern male, who represses his past until he reconciles with the wreckage he abandons in the
salt marshes and consequently, liberates himself from his internal affliction. Tom Wingo lives on
Sullivans Island, South Carolina the sanctuary in which he neglects his past with his three daughters
and his wife, Sallie; however, their family dynamics do not replicate those of the archetypal Southern
family. For one, Tom takes care of the domestic affairs while Sallie brings home the money as she
divulges into the disciplined study of medicine. In the 1980s, the domestic Southern Belle and hard
working, sexist, racist male were prevalent in the distinct culture of the South (Conlee 4). It is evident
Tom adores his daughters, but the translation of his love comes in subtle

How Did Marx View Capitalism
The next reason would be that capitalism contradicts itself due to its tendency for the rate of profit to
fall. This links in with how Marx saw capitalism as an infinite cycle of booms and busts. As capitalists
grow, in order to increase productivity, machinery is purchased to a competitive edge. These machines
are viewed as a means to a profit, not a livelihood, like their previous workers would have been. These
machines will be worn day and night, which means that the instant they are put to use, they decrease
in value and will only decrease further. As this progresses, the competition and rivalry amongst

The Insanity Of Hamlet And Ophelia
Hamlet is the prince of Denmark, whose uncle and mother betray him. Ophelia, a pure figure in the
play, loves Hamlet, but he and her mind betray her. Through conflicts between their minds, and
interactions with others, the madness of Ophelia and Hamlet progressed into something more than
they could handle. With a lack of support given by their families, or peers, they only spiraled deeper
into themselves. In the play, Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, the author uses the
characterization of Hamlet and Ophelia s insanity to further illustrate how madness is a vehicle to
truth. Hamlet s delusion begins directly after he learns of his father s death. Immediately, he longs to
avenge the death of his beloved father, the former King Hamlet; as he tries to piece together how this
tragedy occurred, and why his mother marries his uncle, he becomes entangled in his own curiosities.
He feels as though he should approach his mother, and question her; try to bring her into reality, and
make her become aware of the wrong she is doing. In the first scene, after the wedding of Gertrude,
Hamlet s mother, and Claudius, Hamlet s uncle, he falls into deep self pity. He is unable to speak to
anyone else about his true feelings, so he reveals that his too, ...too sullied flesh would melt,/ Thaw,
and resolve itself into a dew,/ Or that the Everlasting had not fix d/ His canon gainst self slaughter! O

The Crop Of Crop Rotation
Crop rotation is a systematic approach to choosing which crop to plant where in your vegetable garden
from one year to the next. The goals of crop rotation are to help manage soil fertility and to help
reduce conflicts with soilborne diseases and soil dwelling insects like corn. This process then changes
the different types of nutrients in the soil helping the soil to have more nutrients and the crops to be
better at resisting diseases and pests. One of the methods that was used with this appropriate farmer
was fertilizer. Fertilizers were first used by farmers in the Middle Easter and European countries
approximately eight thousand years ago. Biology of the plant: Another method used was cover crops.

It can also be used for other plants for something to climb on in case other plants need support to grow
on. This process is useful because with this method saves sustainability to other plants as
irreconcilable to trying to buy products to do the same thing. Best results for the plant to be
progressing is to be watched by farmers. This ensures the best crops to mature and grow. One of the
organic fertilizers the farmer uses is milorganite. Milorganite is one of the oldest branded fertilizers on
the market today. It is composed of heat dried microbes that have digested the organic matter in
wastewater. Milorganite is manufactured by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. This
fertilizer is slow burned and is full of nitrogen. Being at the farm is not a lot of research on milorganite

requires man made input and output. This uses viable resources. There is an article that I found
interesting and has more background about milorganite named Promoting Forest Recovery on a
Surface Mine Site With Nutritional Amendments. Two conventional fertilizers with the former
featuring urea as the predominant N source while that for the latter was exclusively ammoniacal and
nitrate forms; and Milorganite 6 2 0 + Iron, an organic amendment derived from municipal biosolids.

Portrayal Of Women In Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is one of the most iconic classic works of fiction from the nineteenth
century. Frankenstein tells the tale of Victor Frankenstein s creation of a living monster. Contrary to
popular belief, the monster was not given a name by Frankenstein and is only referred to as the
monster throughout the story. While it may seem like a simple, classic horror story on the surface,
when analyzed more closely, Frankenstein reveals not only many mythological and religious
references, but details about Shelley s life in the nineteenth century. In Anne K. Mellor s critical
analysis titled Possessing Nature: The Female in Frankenstein , Mellor analyzes the role of the female
in a patriarchal society.

When the Victor Frankenstein was vacationing in the mountains, he encounters the monster who then
proceeds to tell Victor his life story and admits to the murder of Victor s brother, William
Frankenstein. The monster then makes his case to Victor convince his creator to create a female
companion for him. At first Victor refuses, but is eventually persuaded. He starts work on a female
companion for the monster, but ultimately stops and destroys his creation. This begs the question of
why? . Mellor asks the question of What does Victor Frankenstein truly fears? (Mellor 407). Mellor
asserts that Victor Frankenstein is afraid of an independent female will (Mellor 407). She also states
that Victor fears that the female monster would be ten thousand times more evil and feared that the
male monster would reject the female monster and that the female monster would be attracted to other
human males. Essentially, Mellor is proclaiming that Victor Frankenstein fears that his male monster
would not be able to control the thoughts and opinions of the female monster. Lastly, Mellor argues
that Victor is fearful of the female monster s reproductive power when Victor says even if they were to
leave Europe, and inhabit the deserts of the new world, yet one of the first results of those sympathies
for which the dæmon thirsted would be children, and a race of devils would be

Florence Nightingale
Nursing is a job we would consider a very selfless job. It s a job that requires you to be at your best at
every moment because someone s life or well being is depending on you. Long shifts may get you
tired, you may not have a lunch break because you are working non stop but you could care less. All
you care about is impacting the lives of others. You are constantly putting others before yourself.
Florence Nightingale was a remarkable woman who did exactly this. Nightingale was born in Florence
Italy, on May 12, 1820. She discovered she wanted to be a nurse early in her lifetime because as a
teenager in 1837 she received a divine calling to do God s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She would go check on soldiers at all hours of the night going through the dark halls carrying a lamp.
The soldiers eventually started giving her nicknames like The Lady with the Lamp and The Angel of
the Crimean . Florence advised the army on sanitary conditions in India during and after the Indian
Mutiny in 1857. This led to the establishment of a Sanitary Department within the Indian government.
Her reports and testimony to others on sanitary conditions of the army led to a lot of improvements
that also led to opening an army medical college in 1861. Florence also intended to write a book to
help others on practicing how to become a nurse and how nursing can be used in future preferences.
Aside from all of that Florence helped establish many nursing organizations throughout her whole life.
Doing what she did for others she won awards for the work that she did. In the 1870 s, she mentored
Linda Richards, the first professionally trained American nurse, who established nurse training
programs in the U.S. and Japan. In late 1954 s, Nightingale Received a letter from the secretary of War
Sidney Herbert, asking for her to organize a corps of nurses to aid to the sick and fallen soldiers. She
gathered 34 nurses and sailed with them to Crimea a few days after.
Florence Nightingale was an influential figure in the development of modern nursing. When Florence
Nightingale was employed no uniforms were created during the Crimean War. Both nursing role and
education were first defined by Florence Nightingale she was honored in many ways before she had
past away. On May 10, 1910, she was awarded the badge of honour of the Norwegian Red Cross
Society. Three days later Florence Nightingale died in London on August 13, 1910. She died at the age

Outsourcing, The Corporate Buzzword Of The Nineteen...
This issue facing my organization is outsourcing. Outsourcing, the corporate buzzword of the nineteen
nineties through today, is a popular business approach utilized by companies focused on lowering their
cost structure, gain entrance to new markets, and expand and build capabilities. Defined as, the
strategic use of outside resources to perform activities traditionally handled by internal staff and
resources [Handfleld, R, 2006]. Initially, outsourcing targeted non critical and non core activities such
as facility maintenance and cleaning and security. Later the industry focus began to include the core
processes of manufacturing, logistics, and back office support functions. In my experience, the term
outsourcing strikes fear into the minds of employees and managers and represents dollar signs to
executives and investors. Open communication during change is critical and to eliminate disconnects
and misunderstandings. The objective of this paper is to describe both sides, delve into the
communication middle ground, and expose the avoidable hidden costs that exist and provide possible
solutions to reduce or avoid these hidden costs in value, human capital, and knowledge. The origins of
many outsourcing endeavors begin as part of a strategic planning session during a period of lean years
for a company or anticipation of a prolonged impending down cycle. This is a time period when the
organization does not have a viable competitive product to offer in the market or the

Sars Coronavirus Research Paper
SARS coronavirus (SARS CoV) currently has no cure, but with research, a possible cure and or a

there has been some research regarding what pathways are activated as SARS CoV is in the human
body. There are many different types of proteins that are part of this virus; with one of the most
commonly studied proteins being structural proteins and nucleocapsid proteins. Proteins are being
modified so that the virus can engage, modify and/ or disrupt the host cell signaling and nuclear

There are three different pathways that can all be activated depending on what proteins are being
activated from SARS Cov. This virus is able to interfere with the classical complement pathway due to
the proteins. Spike protein is one of the major structural proteins that is essential for the interaction of
the virons with host cell receptors and subsequent fusion of the viral envelop with host cell membrane
to allow infection (Wu, 2004). The classical pathway happens when antibodies bind with antigens,
which in this case the spike proteins are attaching to the host cell and infecting the host. The spike
proteins are able to cleave and bind to other proteins, thus making it harder for the classical pathway
to go though a smooth process when the spike proteins cleaving. Another pathway is the alternative
pathway, which can be activated without

Analysis Of The Odyssey
In P.K. Narayan s version of the Indian epic The Ramayana, Rama intends to establish peace,
gentleness, and justice (Narayan 1972: 63) in the world. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseus has an
uncontrollable fighting spirit (Homer 1996: 227) that too often ends in misfortune. Despite these great
differences, these two characters have one thing in common: they are widely regarded as heroes in
their religion. This is just one of many distinctions between the two epics. In The Odyssey, the
afterlife consists of the shambling, shiftless dead (Homer 1996: 251) while in The Ramayana,
reincarnation follows death. These dissimilar perspectives have a tremendous impact on charaters
beliefs and behavior. This paper will investigate these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not a welcome destination for many. Even those who still live great lives end up in the same
situation with those who live ordinary ones. Thus, there was no real motivation in life to achieve a
certain level in the afterlife. In contrast, The Ramayana is a tale of Hinduism, where it is believed that
one is reincarnated depending on how they live their life, and that each individual has a purpose in
their life. Rama s purpose was to destroy Ravana... abolish fear... and establish peace, gentleness, and
goodness in the world. (Narayan 1972: 63). If one follows their purpose in life, this will be reflected
positively in their reincarnation following death. Rama never loses track of this. Reincarnation creates
a sense of purpose in one s life. Death is not the end, but a transition to a new beginning. The theme of
honor and glory, represented differently in The Ramayana and The Odyssey, contribute to different
forms of heroism. First, The Odyssey explores the theme of heroism generally with the character
Odysseus. Odysseus, the hero of the epic, has a strong desire for glory, whatever the cost. For
example, his cunning plan to save himself and his men from the cyclops Polyphemus cannot go
unnoticed. Having escaped, he calls back to Polyphemus, telling him Odysseus, raider of cities, he

Moral Code And Standards For Improving Individual Behavior
I grew up without a mother and father and did not have moral principles instilled in me to help
develop my moral code and standards for maximizing my utility in life. For example, some children
are taught to show respect to parents, teachers, and elders. Respecting parents, teachers, elders, and
other people within society can help to enhance relationships. The better the relationship, the better
coexistence between people. Good moral principles allows a person to make the right decisions and
improve their interactions with other people. These principles can help in improving individual
behavior, inspiring respect, and enriching relationships of others.
With that being said, life is important and guiding values and principles help ... Show more content on

This appears to make perfect sense for most, but the Marines stress the 75% solution to help rapidly
make decisions. In other words, you are to do your best to gather as much information as you can until
you have approximately seventy five percent of the data and facts. Then, use your knowledge, skill,
and perception to fill in the remaining twenty five percent. The Marines view is that it is always better
to make a decision and execute aggressively with partial information, than it is to wait and make a
perfect decision that may be too late and lead to undesirable results. You are taught to rapidly estimate
a situation and make a solid decision based on that estimation. There is no room for reluctance to
make a decision. If there is reluctance, then you revise it. The rapid decision making process has
taught me to not be afraid to make a decision and learn from my mistakes and to respect the leader
who corrects mistakes immediately and owns up to it.
The second principle that I acquired from the Marines was the spirit of determination and
commitment. In the Marines, you will endure and sacrifice for your fellow Marine. It certainly was not
fun to work your butt off to only pay for someone else s mistake. It is easy to complain, but instead,
you go help the weaker Marine in your unit and teach them how to become faster and grow stronger.
Marines that complain are thinking about themselves and their own welfare. As a Marine, you are

(p. 242) Just as she let her pride prevent her from doing so many things in life, she lets it prevent her

The German Occupiers Is The Collection Of Short Stories
The narrative with the most strongly negative images of the German occupiers is the collection of
short stories Νιότη χωρίς τραγούδια by Sophia Fildisi published in 1978. There are no historical facts
incorporated in the narrative and the book requires little extra textual knowledge on behalf of the
young reader. Little to non existent is also the explanation of the historical and political causes of the
war, the responsibility for which is attributed to the insanity of the policymakers, to the θεόμουρλοι

stereotyped image of the military and ruthless German that dominates a great deal of children s fiction

If the identity of being a Nazi is subtracted from the identity of the German occupiers, the young

when the responsibility for these atrocities is put on monsters and other metaphysical creatures and the
author fails to point out that it was ordinary people who carried out actions of extreme violence, much
like the people that the reader interacts with in their everyday life, the young reader s understanding of
the matter is put in a seriously wrong perspective. In stark contrast to the depiction of the German
occupiers as a personification of Evil is the portrayal of the Austrian soldier as the incarnation of
Good. The third story of the book is about a young boy, Minas, who sells his cross necklace to a
benevolent Austrian soldier and uses the money to celebrate Easter with his ill mother. When the
Austrian soldier hears about Minas s misfortunes he bursts into tears. Later, Minas is told by a
neighbour that the Austrian soldier does not support the cause of Hitler (δεν ήταν με του Χίτλερ τα

Bacterial Transformation ( Escherichia Coli )
Bacterial Transformation (Escherichia coli)

November 11, 2014
Introduction According to Medicine.net (2012), genetic transformation is a process by which the
genetic material carried by an individual cell is altered by the incorporation of foreign/exogenous
DNA into its genome. Competent cells are able to accept DNA presented by experimental influence or
manipulation, and the application of genetic engineering with bacteria can aid in the fight against
diseases, allowing individuals to maintain their lifestyles without the threat of certain illnesses like
heart disease, cancer or hereditary disorders (McPhersson 2008). Plasmid DNA are small circular
double stranded helixes, and present in the plasmid are ampr (selectable marker gene) and GFP (Green
Florescent Protein), (BIO RAD 2010).
Figure 1: Illustrates the bacterial plasmid of E. Coli showing the select marker gene and the color
marker gene present.
The bacteria that was used in the experiment was Escherichia coli, it is one of the most commonly
used organisms for gene transfer, and most E. coli are non pathogenic. A non pathogenic strain was
used to conduct the experiment. The conditions was kept at 37 ◦C, which is the temperature of the
human intestines (BIO RAD 2010). Arabinose is a sugar that the bacteria needs for energy, used as a
food source and enables GFP, which in turn is regulated by araC (Redway 2013). Hypothesis: +pGLO

Essay on media avoidance
In my everyday life I use all sorts of media, they range from cable television, Internet, radio, and the

mass media. What I realized as I began this whole experience this whole experience is that the mass

Exile And Pain In Three Elegiac Poems Essay
There is a great similarity between the three elegiac poems, The Wanderer, The Wife of Lament, and
The Seafarer. This similarity is the theme of exile. Exile means separation, or banishment from ones
native country, region, or home. During the Anglo Saxon period, exile caused a great amount of pain
and grief. The theme is shown to have put great sadness into literature of this time period. The
majority of the world s literature from the past contains the theme of exile. The Wife of Lament is
another perfect example of literature with exile, and was written by an unknown author.
The most striking example of exile in this poem can be seen in the passage when she says, quot;A

The author continually describes how incredibly miserable he is living his life in exile, how awful it is
to have to live without the guidance from a higher rank being a lord and king in this case, how there is
no one to talk to and to share ones feelings with, and how there is no money or riches of any kind‚ for
a man who is living in exile.
For the most part, the poem is sad and depressing and the reader easily sees what this man is going
through and how terrible it must be for him to live without all the things many others take for granted
everyday of their lives. The author of this poem, who has obviously been exiled, does an exquisite job
of showing, maybe even teaching, to the reader how important the things are that you lose in life when
exiled, no matter how rich or poor you are. You take the greatest loss of all when you are exiled, you
take the loss of losing everything that makes it seem purposeful for you to live out the day you just
began. This is obviously the idea the author is trying to get across in this poem. Throughout the poem
The Seafarer, also composed by an unknown author, it is obvious that the man is not exiled directly in
the ways people have been exiled in the other poems, however being stuck on a ship is in many ways
quite similar to being exiled from your homeland. Numerous passages in this poem show this mans
painful life at sea. The one that stands out most greatly to me is this passage;

Personal Privacy in the Information Age
Professor Kiehn English 302 3 October 2013 Personal Privacy in the Information Age Some of the
most contentious and recurrent argumentative dialogues regarding civil liberties stem from what
seems at face value, like a relatively elementary idea the notion of personal privacy. This debate could
never be more relevant than in present day society, where globalization and advanced communications

example of the delicate balance between personal privacy and national security here in the United

The Internet and Academic Dishonesty
Term paper mills are not a new development, and neither is dishonesty. However, the rise of the
internet into an information hivemind has made commiting academic dishonesty easier, faster, and
more clandestine than ever. In the case of higher education, the number of paper mills is rising at an
alarming rate. []
Most paper services fall under one of two categories: editing sites and paper mills. Editin sites seem
harmless from an academic standpoint: students can have their papers proofread at any time, with
quick turnovers in the case of looming deadlines. The students write their own papers and the editors
merely mark areas that need improvement and give general guidelines for grammar and stylistic
changes. Of course, most people would be unwilling to pay $6.95[1] for proofreading. It is more likely
that these sites heavily alter the essays they receive for editing , making them more of a co writer of
the paper rather than just a reader. Paper mills are the more common online paper service: they usually
keep many essays in stock with small excerpts available on their website. Buying a paper from these
websites is not unethical, and there are cases where using another student s work to find primary
sources and integrate such essay in one s own would be beneficial. In fact, most paper mill websites
usually include a disclaimer stating that all papers they sell must be used as a reference. The following

Vegetarianism In Tibetan Buddhism
Tibetan Buddhism, a Mahayana sect, is a unique exception in strictly following the vegetarian diet, as
Tibetan Buddhism encourages vegetarianism despite most communities being located on the Qing hai
Tibetan Plateau (Rinpoche) The Qing hai plateau is most likely the largest and highest area ever to
exist on Earth, with an average elevation of 16,400 feet (Foggin). This has led to few constructions of
transportation services, virtually causing the region to be excluded from vegetation trade.
Furthermore, lack of oxygen due to high elevation and severe permafrost demolish the prospect of any
suitable condition coming about for growing numerous crops. To cope with these circumstances,
Tibetan Buddhists strive on a vegetable and grain diet, consuming a restricted amount of meat if
natural conditions limit their main food sources (Rinpoche). In this way, they clearly demonstrate their
compassion towards animal life by holding a strong resolve to consume only non beings and to eat
meat only if of utmost necessity, regardless of limited vegetation supply. On the bases of ahimsa and
compassion, Tibetan Buddhism perpetuates the moral responsibility and spiritual respect humans
should hold towards nonhumans.
Contrary to the disheartening truth that animal agriculture and animal slaughter are inescapably
intertwined, the vegetarian diet is not a required regimen in all Buddhist schools of thought. Buddha
Gautama characterized Buddhism as a free religion, aware that forbidding meat

The Class Will Become A Starting Point For Talking About...
The book for the class will become a starting point for talking about Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or
ODD. Whitbourne and Halgin define that ODD describes children and adolescents who display angry
or irritable moods, possess argumentative or defiant behavior and has vindictiveness that results in
significant family or school problems (p. 249). Individuals who suffer from ODD can also be seen
having these traits: they can easily and repeatedly lose their tempers, refuse orders and requests from
others, and they will be deliberately trying to annoy other people around them. On key factor that
individuals with ODD hold, is that they will try to blame others for their own behaviors and want
other people to see them as a victim rather than the perpetrator. A majority of the time symptoms will
become apparent between the ages of eight and twelve, but symptoms can be evident in early
childhood. We tend to see that ODD is more common prepubescent boys than prepubescent girls.
However, once boys and girls reach puberty the gender ratio of ODD is almost nonexistent. Without
treatment for children and adolescents with ODD, many individuals can develop Antisocial
Personality Disorder in adulthood. This diagnosis particularly pertains to boys, while girls with ODD
tend to have a higher risk for developing depression than other girls without ODD. ODD symptoms
are normally external behaviors, therefore, treatment for ODD involves rewiring behaviors in these
individuals. When a child

The Judicial Branch of the American Government as a...
The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private
property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be
compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where
public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders
the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that
legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private
property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the
judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to
successfully execute this role. To understand why this role maybe be compromised, we must take a
look at the legislative branch and how rent seeking influences the laws that it passes.
Throughout American history, the definition, allocation and protection of property rights has been one
of the most controversial and combative issues. According to Armen and Demsetz (1973), ...a private
property right includes the right to delegate, rent, or sell any portion of the rights by exchange or gift
at whatever price the owner determines (provided someone is willing to pay that price). If person A is
not allowed to buy some rights from Person B and Person B therefore is not allowed to

Personal Power Research Paper
Sources of Power in my Life
Experience is a key to knowledge. It is a type of power one can simply acquire by observing,
encountering, or either undergoing an event. It is a type of power that I have used throughout my life.
Expert power. The process of experiencing is when one obtains a skill or a piece of knowledge from
an event in their life which can later be utilized in their life. As we gain experience, we become
experts in a specific role to which we can help others meet their goals. Experience doesn t just mean
being someone for an extended period of time, it could mean having to go through struggles in their
life or just by making a small mistake that they have been through already. Experience is something
that we all have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have freedom of speech so therefore, we have the rights to fight for ourselves using personal
power. We handle our emotions and feelings through emotional intelligence that we develop as we
grow up. As a matter of fact, this type of power is actually more innovative than other forms of power
because it comes from our own energy. People use personal power as an advantage such as possessing
good traits and characteristics to influence and lead others and gain their trust. For example, we would
want to vote for a president who has the most personal power. This power is a combination of coercive
and empowerment. It s empowerment because it comes from our own energy and coercive because we
have the ability to persuade others using personal power.
Comparatively, positional power also has a great significance use in our daily lives. Police officers,
lawyers, teachers, parents, managers and even just a normal person has some sort of positional power.
This common power is specified as having authority and influence over another person. A person with
positional power is coercive, which means they have power over others. For example, parents can
make their children do something that they don t want to do since the child wouldn t have any choice.
A police officer can also use their title as an advantage to have authority over us which means if we
disobey them, there will be consequences, simply because of their positional power. The difference

Teutonic Knights Chapter Summary
The journal article written by William Urban provided a different perspective in role played by the
Teutonic Knights during the crusades. Within historical analysis, the Teutonic Knights are often
reputed as being brutal during their participation in the holy wars. However, Urban s article does not
dwell on the brutality of the Knights. Urban presents the knights as policeman who were called to
Livonia to save the crusader state from internal collapse caused by political infighting among the
Germans, Danes, and Slavs. Once the Knights gained control of the political instability, they began a
process of establishing a defensive perimeter along the southern frontier. Urban wrote that Christian
Russians protected the eastern frontier of Livonia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was to be no displays of chivalry as seen in the west. The Master of the Teutonic Knights was
the supreme commander, who answered to the Grandmaster in Germany who had complete authority
in Livonia. The Masters worked in conjunction with a council or commanders, which was a
collaboration of men made up from regionalized Bishops, citizens of Riga, and the governors of
Estonia and Demark, and native militiamen known as advocates. Because the masters were often far
away, the commander and advocates were in charge of the territories. However, the priests and native
elders managed local government issues. There were strict punishments handed down for those who
broke the chain of command, and according to Urban, the Archbishop of Riga desired to be the most
powerful man in the region, and while a trouble maker he was not a dangerous

Mr. Deeds Goes To Town Essay
Daneen Small ID: 108886157 HIS 268 Professor Robert Chase Extra Credit Essay: Mr. Deeds Goes to
Town Frank Capra s production of Mr. Deeds Goes to Town exemplified many themes of the 1930s.
This romantic comedy touched on wealth and inequality during the Great Depression. It also
incorporated gender relations and the role of women during this time period. At the beginning of the
film when Deeds is approached by John Cedar about his inheritance, Deeds doesn t react as one would
usually. His initial reaction to his new found wealth was portrayed in a way that he was unemotionally
effected by this large sum of money. Rather than jump for joy, Longfellow seemed expressionless and
uninterested. He does response to the crooked lawyer saying I ... Show more content on

Deeds plan had emulated some of the initiatives of FDR s New Deal Plan. The New Deal was a series
of domestic programs formed between 1933 1936 in response to the Great Depression that focused on
the 3Rs of Relief, Recovery, and Reform. This movie primarily focused on relief, which helped the
unemployed and poor. Longfellow Deeds goal was to help finance rural, family homes within a huge
farming district. This entailed each family getting 10 acres of land, seed, horse, and a cow. Eventually
the farmers would be able to buy back the land after three years. The New Deal had many programs
targeted toward aid to farmers such as the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) and the
Resettlement Administration (RA) of 1935. Deeds Farming Project closely resembles the RA. The
Resettlement Administration provided funds to farmers and agricultural workers on marginal land to
areas where crops can grow. It provided these families with loans to take care of basic living expenses.
By the end of the film, when Deeds in defending himself in the courtroom, he really demonstrates the
inequality between the rich and the poor of the era with his reference to driving up a hill in his small
town and rowing a boat in the river. He just wants to help out the people in

Essay about The Cost of Childcare
Childcare or daycare is one of the most commonly used resources among Americans in the United
States. There are many options for childcare that parents could choose from. The cost of childcare has
risen dramatically over the past year, and no one really knows who to blame for it. The average cost
for one child in a childcare facility ranges from $100 $350 a week. The government offers families
subsidies for childcare, but that s only if your income is low. What about the hard working middle
class families that are still struggling to pay the high cost of childcare? How will they provide
childcare for their kids?
Families have many choices for childcare, ranging from in home care, a childcare facility, an after
school program or a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m not saying that all babysitters are bad, but you should just watch for whom you have watching
your children. Having your child in an In home daycare facility may not be such a great idea either.
After reading the article The Hell of American Day Care, many parents vowed to not let their kids go
to In Home facilities. Head Start is a federally funded governmental program with the explicit goal of
preparing underprivileged children for primary education (Conley). This program is another option for
pre k.
In fact, recent studies have shown that the cost of daycare in some states has exceeded the average
tuition and fees of a public college. The cost per week per child is at its all time high for childcare and
that it s making it hard for parents. Paying $100 $350 a week for childcare sounds outrageous. The
cost of having an infant child in most states is higher than having a 6 year old. Most childcare
facilities charge families by the kids ages, the younger the child, the higher the cost. Honestly, daycare
facilities are making a killing because people are having babies that need care, but they have to go
back to work to support their family. Some parents are concerned about their kids spending so much
time in daycare on average, children spend over 35 hours a week in child care (Aguliar). People may
argue that 35 hours a week is too long for a child to be in care, but honestly it isn t, as long as the kids

The Farnese Atlas Analysis
Atlas by Vik Muniz is a colossal photographic portrait made from trash. Using garbage scavenged
from Gramacho, one of the largest landfills in America, Muniz models trash into images of classical
portraits with his own twist. ...I m trying to step away from the realm of fine arts, I think it s a very
exclusive, very restrictive place to be... What I want to be able to do is to change the lives of people
with the same materials they deal with every day , Muniz stated in film Wasteland. The film
Wasteland, directed by Lucy Walker, tracks the development of Muniz series of monumental
photographic portraits made from trash. The Farnese Atlas is a 2nd century Roman marble replica of a
Hellenistic sculpture of Atlas, a Titan sentenced by Zeus to hold up his burden for eternity, kneeling
with the celestial spheres of the sky weighing down heavily on his shoulders. The Farnese Atlas is an
enormous sculpture standing at seven feet tall and is currently located at the National Archaeological
Museum of Naples, in Italy. Although their actual form and matter are different, both the Atlas and
The Farnese Atlas are similar in the way that both paintings portray a male character with a serious or
stern expression, carrying a large spherical burden or load on their shoulders. Also, both pieces seem
to be copies of other pieces made before their own time. Vik Muniz s Atlas is his own interpretation of

mission. When they enter the tomb the screen widens making the tombs seem narrow. The camera
concentrates on Jones s feet, and follows him through the tomb making the viewer feel involved. They
are soon aware that they have tarantulas attached to their backs, a high pitched music starts to play,
which sounds like creepy crawlies, and it makes the viewer panic. Jones warned his tracker to stay out
of the light; this shows us he has experience. They come to a deep hole, there is a camera shot from
the bottom of the drop, which make the audience realise how dangerous it is, they manage to get over
it. They are standing about ten feet from the Idol, and Jones has to control his excited companion.
Indiana goes forward alone, he was calm about the situation, and knew all the traps. The music starts

shows us he was prepared. The music stopped, making us feel suspense. The rocks start crumbling

give Jones the whip unless he gives him the Idol, but once he s received the Idol he leaves saying,

Chicago Fire Essay
It all started on 137 De Koven Street, in Catherine and Patrick O Leary s Barn. Daniel Sullivan ,who
was a friend and the first one to discover the fire, did not hesitate to call out for help. When the fire
was barely 15 minutes old, the O Leary s barn and neighboring houses were already engulfed in fire as
families stood outside, watching, and waiting for any kind of help to arrive. The absence of rain for
three weeks [has] left everything in so flammable a condition that a spark might set a fire which would
seep from end to end of the city. Reported the Chicago Tribune in the Sunday Edition. During that
time, Chicago had recently renovated it s fire alarm making it it s best out of the nation. However, in

Power brokers of the city quickly began reconstruction and started great economic development and
population growth as architects laid foundation featuring the world s first skyscrapers. This
opportunity gave many architects like Dankmar Alder a chance after Chicago. The devastating events
in Chicago during the fire and the year s of rebuilding were the focus of the intense national interest.
Reporters, photographers, and illustrators were sent to the ruins to report and write to the national and
international readership. In 1956, the city installed a modest monument at the site where the fire
started, Dekoven and South Jefferson streets, dedicated to it s new fire academy and designated
Chicago s landmark on 15 September 1971. The landmark is a bronze sculpture of flames entitled
Pillar of Fire and sculpted by Egon Weiner. At the base of the pillar the plaque reads Here began the

largely built of wood structures, the blaze raged for nearly 30 hours. Flames spread so far as Fullerton

  • 2. Richard Wright s Autobiography Of A Black Boy In The US A autobiography called Black Boy, by Richard Wright was written seventy five years ago. In his autobiography, he tackled some of the issues that are currently still happening in the United States. As a child, when Wright went to school and worked at different jobs, he d seen a much of the racial discrimination, violence and unemployment along with other forms of racial inequality. Although racial discrimination, stereotyping and unemployment have decreased in the United States, it is still an active problem that people of color face. If Wright was alive in 2018, writing a novel about a black boy in United States, he would write about the racial discrimination, stereotyping and unemployment the black boy would have to go through. As a kid, he went through the same things and would understand their frustrations that the black boy has to face in the United States. The first problem that colored and black people currently still face in the United States of 2018, is racial discrimination. In the article by Priscilla DeGregory ... In the autobiography Black Boy, Wright was stopped and threatened by a white policeman one night and told to not deliver packages at night because the white policeman had seen the color of his skin and automatically assumed he was trouble which proves that the police officer was racially stereotyping him. He would be mad because despite racial stereotyping decreasing, it is still present in the United States. This causes him to write about racial stereotyping in his novel about a black boy living in the United States in 2018 because he can relate to what black and colored people feel when they re stopped and frisked by the NYPD for wearing clothes commonly used in a crime and having a suspicious ... • 3. Workplace Discrimination And Its Effects On Social... Workplace discrimination is still prevalent and could have disastrous effects on social cohesion and political stability if it continues unchecked. While the most blatant forms of discrimination at work may have faded, many remain a persistent and daily part of the workplace, or are taking on more subtle forms. Every day, around the world, discrimination at work is an unfortunate reality for hundreds of millions of people. Women are by far the largest discriminated group, with the pay gap between the sexes still significant in most countries. Racial discrimination also persists, though older theories of the purported superiority of one racial or ethnic group over another have been replaced by allegations that foreign and incompatible cultures may have disruptive effects on the integrity of national identities. New forms of discrimination based on disability, HIV/AIDS, age or sexual orientation have now become cause for growing concern. Inequalities within discriminated groups are widening. Affirmative action policies, for example, helped create a new middle class of formerly discriminated persons in some countries. A few rise to the top of the social ladder, while most remain among the low paid and socially excluded. Discrimination often traps people in low paid, informal economy jobs. The discriminated are often stuck in the worst jobs, and denied benefits, social protection, training, capital, land or credit. Women are more likely than men to be engaged in these more ... • 4. Milkman s Use Of Contrast And Mirror Images In Chapter Five Chapter 5 presents a series of contrasts and mirror images that reflect the tenuous relationships between various characters and provide conflicting perspectives on love, sex, and survival. Milkman s pondering his impending death at the hands of Hagar, his distraught ex lover, at the beginning of the chapter evokes many similar references to the presence of death throughout the novel. For example, note that Milkman s picturing his own death as a spurt of wine red blood foreshadows Hagar s funeral scene at the end of Chapter 13, when a sympathetic wino drops his liquor bottle, spurting emerald glass and jungle red wine everywhere. Resigned to let Hagar kill him if she wants to and can, Milkman is almost exhilarated by thoughts of death: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Life at a Medieval University Life at a medieval university for clerics was in many regards similar to our present day college experience. When college was in session, life was basically split into two categories; life in the books, and life outside the books if you will. Scholars needed to focus their attention to the tasks at hand during learning hours. As we know today, the more time you spend studying, the better grades you ll achieve. On the other hand, scholars needed a release from the daily grind of constant academic involvement. This may have included some popular pastimes such as drinking, gambling, and wreaking havoc downtown (nothing a modern student would do). The scholars experienced many of the problems that modern day collegians deal with as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were at a university at this time, you would follow the religious standards, just as I could never get out of going to Friday mass at HGA. Nowadays, religion is a touchy topic. It is left to the discretion of the individual whether or not he or she wants to follow the practices and how closely. Church and state are now separated as to avoid major conflicts. Peter Abelard questions the theological teachings of medieval universities and is criticized for it. He says Is God one, or no? At this time scriptures were not to be questioned and were considered to be true. As we know now, science has become a major source of answers in society. Anyway, Abelard brings a whole new dimension to the table when he questions god s existence and some of the things that the church stands for. The whole basis is to use logic and reason to ponder things in a philosophical fashion. This faith vs. reason debate involved Abelard and others who felt that god was in a persons being, or heart. Academia took up most of the students daily and weekly lives. Scholars took full advantage of down time to relax and enjoy themselves. Social life was the second major aspect of a cleric s university experience. As we know, the student body greatly impacts the surrounding town s economy; however social issues arise as well. When students and townspeople are in the same atmosphere, and drinking, fights are bound to break lose. These battles came to be known ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hate Crime Essay The term hate crime developed in the early 1980s by reporters and government officials such as John Conyers and Mario Biaggi. Even though the interest of hate crimes has increased in recent developments, it has deep historic roots that dates back into time. Statistics of U.S. history has shown that assaults, murders, and acts of vandalism has stemmed from hatred. The first hate crime victims were Native Americans and since then almost all U.S. immigrants have been exposed to violence, discrimination, and harassment. There are many various definitions of the key word hate crimes, but in general terms hate crimes is a carefully thought about illegal act against a person, property, or an organization that is roused by the guilty party s bias ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This legislation can empower the federal government to more effectively protect Americans from bias crimes and to step in when local law enforcement agencies either cannot or will not act to stop hate (Roleff 105). However, for those who believe that hate crimes are not as significant as some may think, they have been shooting down the idea that hate crime laws should form in the U.S. government. Some consider that this matter is an overstated issue a result that the public is touchy to discrimination or prejudice. Other arguments against legislation of hate crime laws include that they don t encourage people to stop participating in this type of criminal act and in fact encourage additional discrimination and marginalization. A federal hate crime law can be used to protect only certain groups and punish only certain crimes as hate crimes (Roleff 113). There was a case in the 1990s where one black man who attacked a white man got a less severe prison sentence over a black man who beat another black man. Situations such as this one can make it seem like some kinds of hate are more unlawful than others. There is little research that examines how prejudice turns into violent action. However, research has examined a characteristic profile that describes common perpetrators and types of hate crime offenders. Contrary to the common way of thinking, most hate crimes aren t devoted by people who belong to hate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Difference Between Liberalism And Anarchism The multiple strands of both liberalism and anarchism prevent any continuous agreement between the main ideas of the two ideologies. The fundamental belief that mankind comprises rational free thinking individuals is common to both view points. However, the level to which the individual can be trusted differs between the two. Anarchists place greater emphasis on the ability for individuals to excel without the interference of an overarching body. Liberals argue that the state is a needed device to ensure that the liberty of each individual is maintained and not limited by other individuals. Liberals believe that individuals are rational and able to recognise their own self interest, this being the main reason why liberals support high levels of individual freedom only constrained to some extent by the state. Liberal individualism, especially within classical liberalism, means that individuals are atomistic and that they will act rationally in support of their own self interest rather than in the interests of society as a whole. Although the liberal adoption of laissez faire economics promotes an atomistic view on individuals, it also argues that an atomistic approach to economics will benefit the entirety of society. However, modern liberals have developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. The Prince Of Tides By Pat Conroy The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy is a compelling narrative in which an ordinary southern South Carolina family, the Wingos, experience extraordinary circumstances deeply rooted in the canticles of childhood affliction. It is a narrative of survival; survival of familial bonds, mortality, and unaffected love when the Wingo parents, Lila and Henry Wingo, thoughtlessly wreak havoc on the fragile lives of their children: Tom, Luke, and Savannah Wingo. It is a story of sand dollars, marsh tides, shrimp, marsh hens, meandering boats through the salt marsh of Colleton, and everything the South Carolina sun imprints upon permanently. Most importantly, The Prince of Tides is the story of Tom Wingo, a white Southern male, who represses his past until he reconciles with the wreckage he abandons in the salt marshes and consequently, liberates himself from his internal affliction. Tom Wingo lives on Sullivans Island, South Carolina the sanctuary in which he neglects his past with his three daughters and his wife, Sallie; however, their family dynamics do not replicate those of the archetypal Southern family. For one, Tom takes care of the domestic affairs while Sallie brings home the money as she divulges into the disciplined study of medicine. In the 1980s, the domestic Southern Belle and hard working, sexist, racist male were prevalent in the distinct culture of the South (Conlee 4). This links in with how Marx saw capitalism as an infinite cycle of booms and busts. As capitalists grow, in order to increase productivity, machinery is purchased to a competitive edge. These machines are viewed as a means to a profit, not a livelihood, like their previous workers would have been. These machines will be worn day and night, which means that the instant they are put to use, they decrease in value and will only decrease further. • 10. The Insanity Of Hamlet And Ophelia Hamlet is the prince of Denmark, whose uncle and mother betray him. Ophelia, a pure figure in the play, loves Hamlet, but he and her mind betray her. Through conflicts between their minds, and interactions with others, the madness of Ophelia and Hamlet progressed into something more than they could handle. With a lack of support given by their families, or peers, they only spiraled deeper into themselves. In the play, Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, the author uses the characterization of Hamlet and Ophelia s insanity to further illustrate how madness is a vehicle to truth. Hamlet s delusion begins directly after he learns of his father s death. Immediately, he longs to avenge the death of his beloved father, the former King Hamlet; as he tries to piece together how this tragedy occurred, and why his mother marries his uncle, he becomes entangled in his own curiosities. He feels as though he should approach his mother, and question her; try to bring her into reality, and make her become aware of the wrong she is doing. In the first scene, after the wedding of Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, and Claudius, Hamlet s uncle, he falls into deep self pity. He is unable to speak to anyone else about his true feelings, so he reveals that his too, ...too sullied flesh would melt,/ Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew,/ Or that the Everlasting had not fix d/ His canon gainst self slaughter! Frankenstein tells the tale of Victor Frankenstein s creation of a living monster. While it may seem like a simple, classic horror story on the surface, when analyzed more closely, Frankenstein reveals not only many mythological and religious references, but details about Shelley s life in the nineteenth century. He starts work on a female companion for the monster, but ultimately stops and destroys his creation. This begs the question of why? . She also states that Victor fears that the female monster would be ten thousand times more evil and feared that the male monster would reject the female monster and that the female monster would be attracted to other human males. Essentially, Mellor is proclaiming that Victor Frankenstein fears that his male monster would not be able to control the thoughts and opinions of the female monster. Her reports and testimony to others on sanitary conditions of the army led to a lot of improvements that also led to opening an army medical college in 1861. Florence also intended to write a book to help others on practicing how to become a nurse and how nursing can be used in future preferences. Aside from all of that Florence helped establish many nursing organizations throughout her whole life. Doing what she did for others she won awards for the work that she did. Outsourcing, the corporate buzzword of the nineteen nineties through today, is a popular business approach utilized by companies focused on lowering their cost structure, gain entrance to new markets, and expand and build capabilities. Defined as, the strategic use of outside resources to perform activities traditionally handled by internal staff and resources [Handfleld, R, 2006]. Initially, outsourcing targeted non critical and non core activities such as facility maintenance and cleaning and security. Later the industry focus began to include the core processes of manufacturing, logistics, and back office support functions. In my experience, the term outsourcing strikes fear into the minds of employees and managers and represents dollar signs to executives and investors. Open communication during change is critical and to eliminate disconnects and misunderstandings. The objective of this paper is to describe both sides, delve into the communication middle ground, and expose the avoidable hidden costs that exist and provide possible solutions to reduce or avoid these hidden costs in value, human capital, and knowledge. At first, the audience is led to believe that Humbert has an everlasting love for Lolita but soon it is revealed that his love turns into an obsession. This obsession is not with her as a person but rather a need for her body. After realizing what Humbert really wanted from her, Lolita reverses roles and begins to use her body as a way to gain money from Humbert. Through her pettiness and troublesome ways, Lolita gains the upper hand on Humbert and successfully makes money through sex. On the other hand, Humbert feels no remorse for the childhood he stole from Lolita. He vividly explains that it does not matter that her innocence was ripped away from her so quickly. In Homer s The Odyssey, Odysseus has an uncontrollable fighting spirit (Homer 1996: 227) that too often ends in misfortune. Despite these great differences, these two characters have one thing in common: they are widely regarded as heroes in their religion. This is just one of many distinctions between the two epics. This is not a welcome destination for many. Even those who still live great lives end up in the same situation with those who live ordinary ones. Thus, there was no real motivation in life to achieve a certain level in the afterlife. In contrast, The Ramayana is a tale of Hinduism, where it is believed that one is reincarnated depending on how they live their life, and that each individual has a purpose in their life. Rama s purpose was to destroy Ravana... abolish fear... and establish peace, gentleness, and goodness in the world. (Narayan 1972: 63). If one follows their purpose in life, this will be reflected positively in their reincarnation following death. Rama never loses track of this. Reincarnation creates a sense of purpose in one s life. Death is not the end, but a transition to a new beginning. The theme of honor and glory, represented differently in The Ramayana and The Odyssey, contribute to different forms of heroism. First, The Odyssey explores the theme of heroism generally with the character Odysseus. Odysseus, the hero of the epic, has a strong desire for glory, whatever the cost. For example, his cunning plan to save himself and his men from the cyclops Polyphemus cannot go unnoticed. Having escaped, he calls back to Polyphemus, telling him Odysseus, raider of cities, he gouged out your eye (Homer 1996: 227). In this instance, Poseidon eventually ... In other words, you are to do your best to gather as much information as you can until you have approximately seventy five percent of the data and facts. The Marines view is that it is always better to make a decision and execute aggressively with partial information, than it is to wait and make a perfect decision that may be too late and lead to undesirable results. Redway BIO 104 Lab 3 November 11, 2014 Introduction According to Medicine.net (2012), genetic transformation is a process by which the genetic material carried by an individual cell is altered by the incorporation of foreign/exogenous DNA into its genome. Competent cells are able to accept DNA presented by experimental influence or manipulation, and the application of genetic engineering with bacteria can aid in the fight against diseases, allowing individuals to maintain their lifestyles without the threat of certain illnesses like heart disease, cancer or hereditary disorders (McPhersson 2008). Plasmid DNA are small circular double stranded helixes, and present in the plasmid are ampr (selectable marker gene) and GFP (Green Florescent Protein), (BIO RAD 2010). Figure 1: Illustrates the bacterial plasmid of E. Coli showing the select marker gene and the color marker gene present. The bacteria that was used in the experiment was Escherichia coli, it is one of the most commonly used organisms for gene transfer, and most E. coli are non pathogenic. A non pathogenic strain was used to conduct the experiment. The conditions was kept at 37 ◦C, which is the temperature of the human intestines (BIO RAD 2010). For the most part, the poem is sad and depressing and the reader easily sees what this man is going through and how terrible it must be for him to live without all the things many others take for granted everyday of their lives. The author of this poem, who has obviously been exiled, does an exquisite job of showing, maybe even teaching, to the reader how important the things are that you lose in life when exiled, no matter how rich or poor you are. You take the greatest loss of all when you are exiled, you take the loss of losing everything that makes it seem purposeful for you to live out the day you just began. This is obviously the idea the author is trying to get across in this poem. Throughout the poem The Seafarer, also composed by an unknown author, it is obvious that the man is not exiled directly in the ways people have been exiled in the other poems, however being stuck on a ship is in many ways quite similar to being exiled from your homeland. Furthermore, lack of oxygen due to high elevation and severe permafrost demolish the prospect of any suitable condition coming about for growing numerous crops. To cope with these circumstances, Tibetan Buddhists strive on a vegetable and grain diet, consuming a restricted amount of meat if natural conditions limit their main food sources (Rinpoche). In this way, they clearly demonstrate their compassion towards animal life by holding a strong resolve to consume only non beings and to eat meat only if of utmost necessity, regardless of limited vegetation supply. On the bases of ahimsa and compassion, Tibetan Buddhism perpetuates the moral responsibility and spiritual respect humans should hold towards nonhumans. Contrary to the disheartening truth that animal agriculture and animal slaughter are inescapably intertwined, the vegetarian diet is not a required regimen in all Buddhist schools of thought. Buddha Gautama characterized Buddhism as a free religion, aware that forbidding meat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Class Will Become A Starting Point For Talking About... The book for the class will become a starting point for talking about Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or ODD. Whitbourne and Halgin define that ODD describes children and adolescents who display angry or irritable moods, possess argumentative or defiant behavior and has vindictiveness that results in significant family or school problems (p. 249). Individuals who suffer from ODD can also be seen having these traits: they can easily and repeatedly lose their tempers, refuse orders and requests from others, and they will be deliberately trying to annoy other people around them. On key factor that individuals with ODD hold, is that they will try to blame others for their own behaviors and want other people to see them as a victim rather than the perpetrator. A majority of the time symptoms will become apparent between the ages of eight and twelve, but symptoms can be evident in early childhood. We tend to see that ODD is more common prepubescent boys than prepubescent girls. However, once boys and girls reach puberty the gender ratio of ODD is almost nonexistent. Without treatment for children and adolescents with ODD, many individuals can develop Antisocial Personality Disorder in adulthood. This diagnosis particularly pertains to boys, while girls with ODD tend to have a higher risk for developing depression than other girls without ODD. ODD symptoms are normally external behaviors, therefore, treatment for ODD involves rewiring behaviors in these individuals. When a child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Judicial Branch of the American Government as a... The Judicial Branch of the American government has potential to be the best protector of private property because it is highly insulated from rent seeking. However, its ability to protect can be compromised where it elects to defer to the legislative branch in making decisions like in cases where public use and eminent domain takings are argued. This inclination to defer to the legislatures hinders the Judicial Branch from reaching its full potential as protector of private property due to the fact that legislatures are not very insulated against rent seeking. To understand the judiciary s role as a private property protector, we must first understand what private property rights are, the motivation of the judiciary to protect these rights and the kind of power that the judiciary has at its disposal to successfully execute this role. To understand why this role maybe be compromised, we must take a look at the legislative branch and how rent seeking influences the laws that it passes. Throughout American history, the definition, allocation and protection of property rights has been one of the most controversial and combative issues. According to Armen and Demsetz (1973), ...a private property right includes the right to delegate, rent, or sell any portion of the rights by exchange or gift at whatever price the owner determines (provided someone is willing to pay that price). If person A is not allowed to buy some rights from Person B and Person B therefore is not allowed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We handle our emotions and feelings through emotional intelligence that we develop as we grow up. As a matter of fact, this type of power is actually more innovative than other forms of power because it comes from our own energy. People use personal power as an advantage such as possessing good traits and characteristics to influence and lead others and gain their trust. For example, we would want to vote for a president who has the most personal power. This power is a combination of coercive and empowerment. It s empowerment because it comes from our own energy and coercive because we have the ability to persuade others using personal power. Comparatively, positional power also has a great significance use in our daily lives. Police officers, lawyers, teachers, parents, managers and even just a normal person has some sort of positional power. This common power is specified as having authority and influence over another person. A person with positional power is coercive, which means they have power over others. Within historical analysis, the Teutonic Knights are often reputed as being brutal during their participation in the holy wars. Urban presents the knights as policeman who were called to Livonia to save the crusader state from internal collapse caused by political infighting among the Germans, Danes, and Slavs. Once the Knights gained control of the political instability, they began a process of establishing a defensive perimeter along the southern frontier.
