English As A Waste Of Time Essay
I always have had a passion for English so it was no surprise to my family and friends when I chose to
pursue a degree in English Literature and minor in Education. Many view an emphasis in English as a
waste of time or a risky major, but actually it can be very successful. When you graduate, you can
incorporate, but do not have to limit yourself to teaching or editorial careers. Ever since I graduated I
have been involved in two job functions that have incorporated my English degree in several ways.
Using English as a Logistics Coordinator My first job was at a national window shutters and blinds
company that imported home furnishings from Asia and distributed them to home improvement stores
here in the US. The company heavily emphasized customer service here in the US along with
communicating with their agents in Asia. I was told that I primarily hired because my English degree
would provide the company with a better communication tool. I primarily dealt with domestic
customer service and was responsible with producing the weekly and monthly reports on our company
s status. Good grammar and spelling were very essential in these reports since any incorrect
information could misconstrue the data and reflect poorly on upper management s presentation. Many
employees appreciated my expertise and I was even offered a job by my boss to tutor his children in
English. Using English as a Purchasing Agent My second and current job is working as a purchasing
agent for aerospace

Howl By William Ginsberg
Howl by Allen Ginsberg: A Reflection on Institutions In the midst of radical changes in America
during the 1950s as a result of the Cold War, the Beat Generation came into existence. America in the
1950s was an age of conformity, something the Beats were against. Individuality was thrown out the
window. The middle class emerged. In the suburbs, every house looked the same and everyone wanted
to buy what their neighbor had and keep up with societal norms. Everyone acted the same way and
shared the same beliefs as everyone else. Society in the 1950s, were confined to institutions in which
Allen Ginsberg wrote about in the poem, Howl. In fact, he met some of his fellow beat poets at his
university and a companion whom he dedicates this poem to at a psychiatric ward. His experiences at
these institutions was of great influence to him as a person and as a poet. ... Show more content on

They were influenced by jazz, experimented with drugs and wrote obscene poetry to go against
society. The Beats lived in a society where individuality was a negative thing. In the poem Howl,
Ginsberg reflects on a world of madness in which institutions such as universities, the government,
and psychiatric wards created a conformist society that stifled creativity and individuality. Ginsberg
opens the poem with the line, I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness (1). The
best minds he refers to were not the elites but the outcasts such as poets, musicians, and the
underprivileged. They were against a conformist society that didn t allow them to express themselves
freely. Society rejected them and their attempts to break free from institutions. They sought many
ways to escape this world of

Australian Nursing Practice
There are different legislations that confines the nursing practice in Australia. Policies, standards and
responsibilities including ethical principles of nurses and other health professionals used to be
different in every state and territory, until the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law was
established. There are certain inaccuracies with the delivery of care over time and the establishment of
the legislation enabled a national scheme that created what is being followed all over Australia at
present time. This paper will discuss different legislations within the Australian nursing practice that
deals with poisons, child protection and mandatory reporting, and privacy. Poison Under the

It is mandatory to report different types of maltreatment to children which includes child abuse in both
physical and sexual, emotional and psychological neglect to children as well as exposing them to any
form of family violence (Atkins, K., Lacey, S., Britton, B., 2011). Though it is apparent that certain
legislations are different in every state and territory in Australia, the other main difference is the state
of mind upon reporting an incident. This can either be a belief or suspicion of the mandated reporter,
both should have reasonable grounds for reporting. Moreover, majority of the states in Australia have
a certain group of professionals that are allowed to report suspected maltreatments while at some state
or territory it is mandatory for every adult to report an alleged abuse or neglect. The type of
maltreatment that can be reported also varies across the country (CFCA,

Synthetic Fibers And Its Effects On The Body
2.2.2.2 Elastic fibres
Elastic fibres are 1 µm to 3µm in diameter and are loosely arranged in all directions in the dermis
[90]. These fibres are scattered among the collagen bundles and become thicker in the deeper layers of
the dermis [90]. Elastic fibres, as their name indicates, are extremely elastic and help in the elastic
recoil of the skin and that is the reason why they are more abundant in the dermis of the face, scalp
and the extensible organs, such as tendons and arteries [91, 92].
2.2.2.3 Extrafibrillar matrix
The extrafibrillar matrix includes a ground substance (glycosaminoglycans), dermal fibroblasts,
dendritic cells, mast cells, histiocytes, blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatics [85]. Ground substance is
a gelatinous amorphous substance of sugar and proteins (glycoproteins and proteoglycans) that is
observed between the fibres and between the cells. It provides support to the dermis and has an
extraordinary capacity to store water. Moreover, it facilitates the passage of nutrients, hormones, and
other molecules through the dermis [72, 73].
Fibroblasts, the major cell type of the dermis, produce and maintain most of the ECM proteins.
Indeed, they produce collagen, elastic fibres, and glycosaminoglycan [93]. The dermal fibroblasts are
differentiated from the mesenchymal cells and appear as thin spindle shaped cells. The dermis
includes other types of cell such histiocytes, mast cells and dermal dendritic cells. Histiocytes are star
shaped cells with a small

The Awakening Heroine s Journey
Edna Pontellier, from The Awakening by Kate Chopin, finds herself crying for no apparent reason,
with the voice of the sea comforting and inviting her to its depths. It is this moment that Edna realizes
her unhappiness is due to an oppression within her. The Awakening is set in the late nineteenth century
during summer vacation on the island named, Grand Isle, and follows the self discovering journey of
Edna Pontellier. Edna s husband Lèonce Pontellier leaves for a business trip which gives Edna time
alone to spend with a young gentleman named Robert Lebrun, a young flirtatious man that eventually
falls in love with Edna. During this time away from her husband she begins to discover what she truly
wants in her life. This exploration of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that Edna uses the power her husband holds as a temporary way to identify herself with
something other than the feminine, in this case his power he holds with money. The state that their
marriage is in can be seen when Edna shares pâtes, French for small pies, with the neighboring women
and they all declare how Mr. Pontellier is the best husband in the world. The narrator uses the third
person limited to show that Edna felt forced to say how she knew of none better. Separation from the
feminine is only the beginning of a heroine s journey, however; it is not completely necessary for
someone to go through the entire heroine s circle, everyone s journey is different. Edna s separation
from the feminine is due to her lack of a role model and also because she lacked a mother figure. It is
mentioned in The Awakening that Edna s mother had passed away which makes the separation from
the mother an easier bond to break. Since Edna had no mother figure she sought approval from a
father figure and began her Identification with the Masculine of a heroine s journey. When she marries
Léonce, he fails to give to her the male figure to look up to and altogether wounds her sense of self
from the lack of someone to follow. This leads into the need to break away from the patriarchy to
pursuit the needs of a woman. Murdock explains this lack of self approval as how women always put
others first, never putting themselves first

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Decoder
ABSTRACT This paper focus on designing of efficient encoder and decoder blocks which are aimed
to reduce the power consumption in Network on Chip. The power consumption in NOC is caused by
the links, routers and network interfaces. This is caused because as the number of cores in NOC
increases the gap between the links decreases the coupling capacitance value increases due to which
the power consumption increases. The proposed scheme does not require any modifications in router
and link architecture and there is no network performance degradation. The encoder is designed in
such a way to calculate the power consumption and based on power value the input data is encoded
before transmission. The process of encoding can be done before transmitting the data from one
processing element to the other processing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Size. The Integrated circuits consisting of both transistors and wires are shrunk to micrometer sizes,
compared to the millimeter or centimeter sizes of discrete components. Smaller size components lead
to smaller parasitic resistance, capacitance which in deed reduces the power consumption and
improves the speed. Speed. Signals switching between logic 0 and logic 1 is much quicker within a
chip than compared between chips. Communication within a chip is hundreds of times faster than the
communication between chips on a printed circuit board. Generally the high speed of circuit s on chip
is due to their small size smaller components and wires have smaller parasitic capacitances to slow
down the signal. Power consumption. The power consumption in Integrated circuits can be done
mainly due to switching activity (logic 0 to logic1) which increases the capacitances value. The
integrated circuit having less power consumption is preferable and provides huge life time.

An Essay About A Mate
Mate. My mother used to tell me the definition of mate was your destined love true love to say the
least. A person that will stick with you through the thick and thin, no matter the destination. A mate is
supposed to protect you from the harmful ways of the world. A mate was supposed to fight with you
side by side. A mate is supposed to love you no matter the cost. I never really thought about mates or
well superficially my mate. I thought I was always going to be alone, fighting my own battles and
defeating my own wars with no else s help but only my own. But I guess life has its mysterious ways
of confusing the living life out of me and possibly my mate to. The hand on my shoulder sent bolts of
electricity to run out through my body starting from the tip of my toes to all the way to the tip of my
fingers. My body fell on infinite bliss. Even though this touch erupted fireworks in my stomach this
touch also calmed me, comforted me in many ways than one Physically, Mentally and Emotionally. I
felt safe and free but that didn t last long. The hand on my shoulder slipped off slowly and gently but
that action only ripped away all the bliss and comfort from it, bringing back the cold to my body. I
turned around slowly facing the owner of the hand that was touching me only moments go but it felt
like his last touch was months ago, what was this person touch doing to me? The owner of the hand
had its mouth slightly open from shock, his eyes were flooded with emotion, confusion

Introduction Having the privilege to serve in the military has allowed this writer the opportunity to be
exposed to the pluralistic society in a way which has exposed him to the beauty of the diversity
enjoyed in American culture. One aspect of said diversity is the interaction which has taken place
amongst the Christian and various world religions who also wear the same uniform in defense of
America. It was the pleasure of the writer to attend a local synagogue in which his Jewish brothers and
sisters welcomed him with open arms. The local congregation of Jewish believers went out of their
way in order to ensure their newest visitor understood the flow of service and the significance of the
ritual which took place on the first Shabbat or Sabbath of the month. The following essay will serve to
detail the worship experience as well as how it and other beliefs of Judaism compare/contrast with the
Christian faith.

was incumbent upon to seek out a local congregation which would welcome him and his

Elie Wiesel s The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
The Boy in the Striped Pajama exhibits doing the physically intolerable, but the morally correct deed,
despite rough situations. Bruno resisted the adults and risked severe retribution to deliver food for
Shmuel, a Jew. In the same way, Night also exhibits the principle of doing actions that benefit society,
despite symptoms of pain. The experiences in Elie Wiesel s Night force Elie to learn that everybody

Afro-Eurasian Trade Routes
Although Afro Eurasian trade routes continuously were the method of transit for many luxury goods
and religions; the importance of these routes, the people that controlled them, and the diseases and
ideas that were spread across these routes changed tremendously throughout the period from 300 CE
to 1450 CE. Throughout the time period of 300 1450 there were four main trade routes that connected
each part of the Afro Eurasian landmass to form one large interconnected system of commerce. These
routes were the Mediterranean Sea route, the Trans Saharan route, the Indian Ocean trade route, and
the Silk Road. Each of these trade routes served as a method of transport for luxury goods, such as;

During the reign of the Roman Empire, the trade networks that connected Africa, Europe, and Asia
flourished, however, after the fall of the Romans these trade routes saw a period of decline. This
period of decline, especially on the Silk Road, was due mainly to the fact that there was no longer a
regulatory body, such as the Roman Empire, to create a safe environment for merchants. However, in
the 600 when the Muslim religion began to form and grow, their empire was able to provide some
stability for the trade routes in Africa and Europe, as well as the most western parts of the Silk Road.
The Muslim tradition of the Hajj, a trip that fulfills one of the five pillars of Islam, was able to
increase trade in Saudi Arabia especially. Stability, and thus an increase in importance, was not truly
achieved for the Silk Road until 1200 when the Mongols were able to conquer most of Asia. The
Mongols were strong believers in the merchant system that worked along the Silk Road, therefore they
put in place strict safeguards for the merchants on that route. By the year 1200 most areas of the Afro
Eurasian trade routes were safe and therefore highly important once

The Five Causes Of Invasive Species
Invasive Species Invasive species are one of the 5 causes of the inevitable 6th extinction. An invasive
species is any kind of plant, animal, fungi, or bacteria that is not endemic to a region but, when
introduced, can spread quickly and cause destruction to that region. Primarily due human activities,
these species are spread by sea, air, and other ways. Sometimes these species are purposely brought to
an area as a means of pesticide or other uses, but others can be introduced accidentally. When an new
species is introduced to an ecosystem, it can destroy wildlife because organisms may not be evolved to
defend against such invaders. On December 26, 2013, in a small village in Guinea, a anomalous
disease began spreading. An 18 month old boy fell victim to the illness characterized by fever, black
stools, and vomiting and would soon die from it. The boy is said to have contracted the disease from
infected bats that were closer to human settlements due to deforestation. By January 2014, several
members of the boy s family and those who had helped them had developed similar symptoms
resulting in death. Soon after, the disease had spread to those who had attended funerals or took care
of ill relatives causing this pattern of exposure continued. An alert on January 24th was raised when
the head of the Meliandou health post informed district health officials of cases of severe diarrhoea
with a fatal outcome. An investigation was setup where a team of health officials found what

The Relationship Between Digital Technologies And Print...
Posthuman During the second half of the semester, we have been looking at games, novels, and
critical scholarship that have explored the relationship between digital technologies and print and
media technologies at the borders of video games and novels. One of the takeaways from this it that
objects themselves matter at the level of representation, code, design, and system, and they transform,
affect, shape, and or recede from our attempts to apprehend them. We aren t meant to live forever, so
what s next? There are many different theories and beliefs that are out there, but with technology

[Mianaai] resided in each of the thirteen provincial palaces, and was present at every annexation. She
was able to do this because she possessed thousands of bodies, all of them genetically identical, all of
them linked to each other (Leckie 95). This is a scary thought, but it may happen if technology reaches
that point. But, if one was able to correctly assemble this kind of figure, how would we be able to tell
a difference? According to Katherine Hayes, she says In the posthuman, there are no essential
differences or absolute demarcations between bodily existences and computer simulation, cybernetic
mechanism and biological organism, robot teleology and human goals (Hayes 3). They would blend
right in within our society, without anyone else knowing. She continues by saying, ...a conceptual
framework that constituted humans, animals, and machines as information processing devices

posthuman like figure, is by being able to process information during a conversation. This will allow
them to be able to communicate effectively with a regular human being based on the information they
have collected. Although, the Turing Test, challenges this notion and reveals the truth behind what is
real and what is posthuman. The Turing Test is an interview based test

Surviving The Holocaust
Have you ever wondered how the people survived the Holocaust? Would you know how to protect
yourself if you were in that position? Would you know how to live with people dieing in front of you?
It all started in January 1933, it ended after thirteen years on May 8 ,1946, after Hitler committed
suicide. In 1935 1939, 121 new laws and ordinances were made, this made the Jews lives very
frustrating and difficult. In 1935 the Nuremberg laws were passed, Jews were no longer citizens of
Germany. These people that were striped of their citizenships were defined Jews, partial Jews, and
Aryan. Children were especially targeted by the Nazi s during the Holocaust because the Nazi s feared

In 1946, a pest control company was tried for selling huge quantities of Zyklon B to the concentration
camps. Carbon monoxide was originally used until they got their hands on Zyklon B. They would
stuff the people in and screw the doors shut and then release the carbon monoxide. After they found
Zyklon B then they would drop the pellets into the vent and then the pellets would release toxic gas. In
the gas chambers, the gas would rise from the lower air and then it would rise to the top. When the gas
would start to reach the top, people would climb on top of people so that that way they could get the
non toxic air at the top. Jewish prisoners were burned in ovens because the Nazis didn t want
eyewitnesses. A total of one third of the Jewish people who were alive at that time were killed in the
Holocaust.
After reading all the research about the Holocaust, I thought to myself I can t imagine being in a

Dylan Thomas Under Milk Wood Essay
Dylan Thomas Under Milk Wood deals with the simplicity of life, stressing the importance of each
cobble, donkey, [and] goose ; we must rejoice in the simple aspects of life which ultimately make it so
wonderful. There are many characters in the play who would attempt to hide from reality behind their

bring the joy of the spring sun into their lives. Thomas treats these characters with humour, subtly
suggesting where his sympathies lie; with those characters who rejoice in the love and the little
aspects of life which make it so much more worth living.

The captain s dreams of the dead suggest that he has lived a long and full life, and the fact that those in
his dreams rejoice in the simple aspects of their lives suggests both that these are the things they miss
the most, and also that Captain Cat knows that these aspects are not to be taken for granted.
Mog Edwards and Miss Myfanwy Price have an eccentric relationship which, despite being from a
distance, they celebrate and enjoy every day of their relationship until death do us part . The love they
feel, whether or not it is for each other or for the idea of such a relationship, is an integral part to their
lives and, although somewhat strange, it is a blessing that such love is not taken for granted. Thomas
treats the two characters with satire, Mog Edwards being more taken with economical ideas of
business being poorly than that of love as his letters consist for the most part of financial despair. It is
hence perhaps the ease of the relationship which appeals to the couple the most; love, at a distance, is
all they need to be happy, and the fact that they rejoice in such a relationship is not as humorous an
idea as it is satisfying to know that such happy and eternal love is made the most of to the furthest
extent possible.
There are also those characters at the opposite end of the scale who live loveless or dark lives, denying

Essay about Gun Control Problems and Solutions
The problem with guns is fairly obvious: they decrease the difficulty of killing or injuring a person. In
Jeffrey A. Roth s Firearms and Violence (NIJ Research in Brief, February 1994), he points out the
obvious dangers. About 60 percent of all murder victims in the United States in 1989 (about 12,000
people) were killed with firearms. Firearm attacks injured another 70,000 victims, some of whom
were left permanently disabled. In 1985, the cost of shootings was an estimated $14 billion nationwide
for medical care, long term disability, and premature death. In robberies and assaults, victims are far
more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a gun than when he or she has another weapon
or is unarmed. I believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has been the position of the NRA for quite some time, and it is certainly one with which I agree;
Felons and ex cons should not have access to weapons, and many misdemeanors and juvenile crimes
should also count against a person s adult record. Stiffer sentences for gun crimes would be effective
in using fear of reprimand as a crime deterrent. National as well as community funded gun education
courses would increase gun awareness and safety. These programs could even be extended to public
schools. Many guns are involved in accidents that could easily have been prevented by a little care or
forethought. Also gun purchasers could be required to take lessons in gun safety, at the purchaser s
expense. Again, the NRA has long been a proponent of gun education. Gun control is severely
weakened by the few loopholes that exist in the system. These loopholes make it possible for minors
and felons to obtain outlawed and high powered weapons. They also serve to weaken the strength of
the Brady Bill and Gun registration. Adults are prohibited from transferring firearms to juveniles, but
are not required to store guns in securely locked cabinets. This allows kids to get access to them. This
Child Access Prevention (CAP) proposal would require parents to keep loaded firearms out of the
reach of children and would hold gun owners criminally responsible if a child gains access to an
unsecured firearm and uses it to injure himself or

Causes Of Affluenza In America
Affluenza is a culture in which the urge to consume dominates the psychology of citizens. Advertising
and capitalism are the main causes of affluenza in America. According to the textbook, affluenza is a
painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety and waste resulting from
the dogged, pursuit of more . Forces such as advertising, cultural norms, the political economy, social
pressures, and psychological associations shape the consumption patterns in consumers. According to
Speth, America is a consumer society in which consumerism and materialism are central aspects of the
dominant culture, where goods and services are acquired not only to satisfy common needs but also to
secure identity and meaning . Consumers remain unfulfilled and are driven to seek more possessions,
due to meaning and self realization not being met, nor basic psychological needs. One of the reasons
that Americans suffer from affluenza more than consumers in other countries is because of the
advertising in America. Businesses, marketers, and advertisers have discovered that colonizing the
imagination of the child is the most effective way of securing a life long conspicuous consumer.
Between 1980 and 1997, the amount spent on children s advertising in America zoomed from $100
million to $1.5 billion a year. American children watch up to 200 television commercials per day. The
average 12 year old in America spends 48 hours a week watching television

Problems With The Health Insurance
In America we have many problems that society may view as harmful or problems that need a remedy
to fix, there problems are called a social problem. Social problems can range from school problems to
drug problems. Each person in America can have their own opinion of what a social problem is to
them. Just like with time, social problems will change, some will come and some will go. So, for right
now in time one of the biggest social problems I can see in America is the healthcare. There are many
problems with the health insurance in America. According to our books in America some of the
biggest problems are: Medicare, Medicaid, Military Healthcare, Workers Compensation,
Complemtary, and Alternative Medicine. The book states that there are a few strategies for action
people can take to make these problems go away, such as: Selective primary healthcare,
Comprehensive primary healthcare, fighting obesity, work wellness programs, public education, and
the Affordable Care Act. (Linda A. Mooney, 2015) In this paper I am going to discuss the biggest
problems in America that involve healthcare insurance, how to fix these problems, and the possible
outcomes. As was previously stated, there are many social problems in healthcare, but the biggest
problems are: Medicare, Medicaid, Military Healthcare, Workers Compensation, Complentary, and
Alternative Medicine. Now I will break each one of these down and explain why they are the biggest
problems. Medicare is a type of insurance that

Oil Industry In Los Angeles Basin
From the 1890s, as a result of discovery and drilling of some of the most productive oil fields in the
world, the small town of Los Angeles suffered a big change. By 1930, California was producing
nearly one quarter of the world s oil output, and its population had grown to 1.2 million. In the
flowing decades, urban and suburban area grew quickly, surrounding by closeness and more openness
of the oil wells. People found ways to camouflaged machinery, decreased loud noises, vented methane
pockets, as residents had to live closely to those oil production facilities. Until now days, oil fields in
the Los Angeles Basin remain very productive. By applying modern techniques, operations can be
conducted in smaller areas, and some of them have been moved offshore. However, there are still
some oil fields and drilling activities hiding among the shopping malls, sports sites and residences of
Los Angeles. Oil extraction presented a dark background of the early days of L.A. s growth, and the
fossil fuel industry contributed much to Los Angeles early development. In that age, a number of oil
fields was easy to drill and there was no evident distinction between oil producing region and
residential area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of oil was abundant and it was easily accessible with minimal regulation. And people had
little understanding of the health or environmental impacts to themselves. Los Angeles still is the
largest urban oil field in the United States. Thousands of ongoing oil wells in the greater L.A. area are
located in a dense population of more than 10 million people. Though conventional crude reserves
have decreased, oil drilling in L.A. still remains popular. Oil rigs spread among the city but by using
special structures, tall fences, or operating oil drilling in low income residential area, they often hide

Social Bond Theory
Through the evolution of social bonds, individuals have always been under scrutiny to abide by a list
of rules in order to be successful in their community. This ideology is made evident in the book, The
Code of the Street, by Elijah Anderson. Anderson dissects and exposes the various issues dealing with
families in urban minority communities. These families are labeled as street and decent . The
connotation of the term code of the street is a set of accepted and understood set of rules in which
street and decent families abide by in order to function in modern day street society. These regulatory
rules are known as a code because this term is not blatantly stated, but mutually understood by those
living in these disadvantaged communities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aker s social learning theory is evident in Anderson s research in Code of the Street. Aker explains
that the social learning theory attributes learning criminal behavior through the engagement of peers.
This theory can be practical in understanding the code of the streets of minorities in urban
communities. Modern society has put a label on crime in that it is inappropriate and that people should
not participate in it. However, those in disadvantaged communities who abide by the code of the street
allow the denotation of crime to change in their attempts to survive in such conditions. Anderson
states, Children growing up in these circumstances learn early in life that this [criminal activities] is
the way things are (Anderson 134). This mindset is common to those in minority urban communities
that portray the code of the street in terms of crime in the eyes of the

Kiener, Robert. Should government regulate unhealthy foods? CQ researcher. CQ researcher, 3 Oct.
2014. Web. 15 October 2014.
The main point from this report by Author Robert Keiner is the regard to food policy debates. The
Author is a free lance writer in Vermont who has an M.A. in Asian studies, and seems reliable due to
him using more than one point of view and not just his own. The Authors audience is probably people
who look at unhealthy food as a problem in the world, and agree that healthy food is a better choice.
This report is just another explanation on why unhealthy foods can be bad for you, but it was
explained very thoroughly with a lot of helpful information. The graphs and maps shown on the report
are very useful for my research because it shows information about how much organic food, and fast
food people consume. This resource was found using the online Rio Salado Library on CQ researcher.

Personal Narrative-Goose Tree
Goose Tree Okay Reed, time to go! My dad shouts from the garage. We had everything prepared and
packed to go except for the shotgun. My dad and I have been looking at an area of public hunting land
that might be good for hunting all kinds of game. We came to that conclusion after seeing a big pond
and deep forests on the map. Today was going to be a day full of short lived excitement and
disappointment, and I had no clue. Alright, just gotta grab the gun! I hurry to put my shotgun in the
case and with my boots pounding on the floor I get into the truck. We check to see if we have
everything we need. Gear, tags, license, guns, ammo, map. Alright, we re good to go. My dad said

My dad pauses for a couple seconds. Probably thinking of something else to say. We should come

confidence. When we got home, we told the story to the rest of the family and the name Goose Tree
just stuck. That s what we decided to call that old oak tree. One thing I learned from that whole
experience is that excitement can cloud your judgement more than anything if you let

Middle Colonies Vs New England Colonies
In 1630, the Pilgrims settled in what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their first few months
consisted of deplorable weather conditions, infertile soil, and fights with Native Americans. However
future colonies learned from their mistakes. By 1700, England had moved on to settling more of the
New World . The other two colonies would make many improvements to try to make their colony the
most appealing, some even sent out brochures to promote themselves and get more colonists.
Government, religion, and economy were all very important to the colonists and made or break a

Unlike Middle and Southern colonies, New England came here mostly for religion and to escape the
Church of England. Although it is true that some people in Southern and Middle colonies came to
practice their own religion, most colonies just wanted a piece of land in America because it was a
status symbol back then. One of the colonies that stood out from the rest was Pennsylvania. William
Penn founded a very open colony with much religious tolerance. He sent flyers out to advertise in
Europe. People from Europe and beyond came to Pennsylvania because any religion was tolerated.
Alexander Hamilton said I dined at a tavern with a very mixed company of different nations and
religions. There were Scots, English, Dutch, Germans, and Irish. There were Roman Catholics,
Church [of England] men, Presbyterians, Quakers, ... Moravians ... and one Jew . Another example of
religious tolerance is the Southern colonies. Lord Baltimore did this so he could get more people to

  • 4. English As A Waste Of Time Essay I always have had a passion for English so it was no surprise to my family and friends when I chose to pursue a degree in English Literature and minor in Education. Many view an emphasis in English as a waste of time or a risky major, but actually it can be very successful. When you graduate, you can incorporate, but do not have to limit yourself to teaching or editorial careers. Ever since I graduated I have been involved in two job functions that have incorporated my English degree in several ways. Using English as a Logistics Coordinator My first job was at a national window shutters and blinds company that imported home furnishings from Asia and distributed them to home improvement stores here in the US. The company heavily emphasized customer service here in the US along with communicating with their agents in Asia. I was told that I primarily hired because my English degree would provide the company with a better communication tool. I primarily dealt with domestic customer service and was responsible with producing the weekly and monthly reports on our company s status. Good grammar and spelling were very essential in these reports since any incorrect information could misconstrue the data and reflect poorly on upper management s presentation. Many employees appreciated my expertise and I was even offered a job by my boss to tutor his children in English. • 5. Howl By William Ginsberg Howl by Allen Ginsberg: A Reflection on Institutions In the midst of radical changes in America during the 1950s as a result of the Cold War, the Beat Generation came into existence. America in the 1950s was an age of conformity, something the Beats were against. Individuality was thrown out the window. The middle class emerged. In the suburbs, every house looked the same and everyone wanted to buy what their neighbor had and keep up with societal norms. Everyone acted the same way and shared the same beliefs as everyone else. Society in the 1950s, were confined to institutions in which Allen Ginsberg wrote about in the poem, Howl. In fact, he met some of his fellow beat poets at his university and a companion whom he dedicates this poem to at a psychiatric ward. They were influenced by jazz, experimented with drugs and wrote obscene poetry to go against society. The Beats lived in a society where individuality was a negative thing. In the poem Howl, Ginsberg reflects on a world of madness in which institutions such as universities, the government, and psychiatric wards created a conformist society that stifled creativity and individuality. Ginsberg opens the poem with the line, I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness (1). The best minds he refers to were not the elites but the outcasts such as poets, musicians, and the underprivileged. They were against a conformist society that didn t allow them to express themselves freely. Society rejected them and their attempts to break free from institutions. • 7. Synthetic Fibers And Its Effects On The Body 2.2.2.2 Elastic fibres Elastic fibres are 1 µm to 3µm in diameter and are loosely arranged in all directions in the dermis [90]. These fibres are scattered among the collagen bundles and become thicker in the deeper layers of the dermis [90]. Elastic fibres, as their name indicates, are extremely elastic and help in the elastic recoil of the skin and that is the reason why they are more abundant in the dermis of the face, scalp and the extensible organs, such as tendons and arteries [91, 92]. 2.2.2.3 Extrafibrillar matrix The extrafibrillar matrix includes a ground substance (glycosaminoglycans), dermal fibroblasts, dendritic cells, mast cells, histiocytes, blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatics [85]. Ground substance is a gelatinous amorphous substance of sugar and proteins (glycoproteins and proteoglycans) that is observed between the fibres and between the cells. It provides support to the dermis and has an extraordinary capacity to store water. Moreover, it facilitates the passage of nutrients, hormones, and other molecules through the dermis [72, 73]. Fibroblasts, the major cell type of the dermis, produce and maintain most of the ECM proteins. Indeed, they produce collagen, elastic fibres, and glycosaminoglycan [93]. The dermal fibroblasts are differentiated from the mesenchymal cells and appear as thin spindle shaped cells. The dermis includes other types of cell such histiocytes, mast cells and dermal dendritic cells. Histiocytes are star shaped cells with a small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The state that their marriage is in can be seen when Edna shares pâtes, French for small pies, with the neighboring women and they all declare how Mr. Pontellier is the best husband in the world. The narrator uses the third person limited to show that Edna felt forced to say how she knew of none better. Separation from the feminine is only the beginning of a heroine s journey, however; it is not completely necessary for someone to go through the entire heroine s circle, everyone s journey is different. Edna s separation from the feminine is due to her lack of a role model and also because she lacked a mother figure. It is mentioned in The Awakening that Edna s mother had passed away which makes the separation from the mother an easier bond to break. Since Edna had no mother figure she sought approval from a father figure and began her Identification with the Masculine of a heroine s journey. When she marries Léonce, he fails to give to her the male figure to look up to and altogether wounds her sense of self from the lack of someone to follow. • 10. Advantage And Disadvantage Of Decoder ABSTRACT This paper focus on designing of efficient encoder and decoder blocks which are aimed to reduce the power consumption in Network on Chip. The power consumption in NOC is caused by the links, routers and network interfaces. This is caused because as the number of cores in NOC increases the gap between the links decreases the coupling capacitance value increases due to which the power consumption increases. The proposed scheme does not require any modifications in router and link architecture and there is no network performance degradation. The encoder is designed in such a way to calculate the power consumption and based on power value the input data is encoded before transmission. Communication within a chip is hundreds of times faster than the communication between chips on a printed circuit board. Generally the high speed of circuit s on chip is due to their small size smaller components and wires have smaller parasitic capacitances to slow down the signal. Power consumption. Afro-Eurasian Trade Routes Although Afro Eurasian trade routes continuously were the method of transit for many luxury goods and religions; the importance of these routes, the people that controlled them, and the diseases and ideas that were spread across these routes changed tremendously throughout the period from 300 CE to 1450 CE. Throughout the time period of 300 1450 there were four main trade routes that connected each part of the Afro Eurasian landmass to form one large interconnected system of commerce. These routes were the Mediterranean Sea route, the Trans Saharan route, the Indian Ocean trade route, and the Silk Road. During the reign of the Roman Empire, the trade networks that connected Africa, Europe, and Asia flourished, however, after the fall of the Romans these trade routes saw a period of decline. This period of decline, especially on the Silk Road, was due mainly to the fact that there was no longer a regulatory body, such as the Roman Empire, to create a safe environment for merchants. However, in the 600 when the Muslim religion began to form and grow, their empire was able to provide some stability for the trade routes in Africa and Europe, as well as the most western parts of the Silk Road. The Muslim tradition of the Hajj, a trip that fulfills one of the five pillars of Islam, was able to increase trade in Saudi Arabia especially. Stability, and thus an increase in importance, was not truly achieved for the Silk Road until 1200 when the Mongols were able to conquer most of Asia. The Mongols were strong believers in the merchant system that worked along the Silk Road, therefore they put in place strict safeguards for the merchants on that route. By the year 1200 most areas of the Afro Eurasian trade routes were safe and therefore highly important once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An invasive species is any kind of plant, animal, fungi, or bacteria that is not endemic to a region but, when introduced, can spread quickly and cause destruction to that region. Primarily due human activities, these species are spread by sea, air, and other ways. Sometimes these species are purposely brought to an area as a means of pesticide or other uses, but others can be introduced accidentally. When an new species is introduced to an ecosystem, it can destroy wildlife because organisms may not be evolved to defend against such invaders. On December 26, 2013, in a small village in Guinea, a anomalous disease began spreading. An 18 month old boy fell victim to the illness characterized by fever, black stools, and vomiting and would soon die from it. The boy is said to have contracted the disease from infected bats that were closer to human settlements due to deforestation. By January 2014, several members of the boy s family and those who had helped them had developed similar symptoms resulting in death. Soon after, the disease had spread to those who had attended funerals or took care of ill relatives causing this pattern of exposure continued. Posthuman During the second half of the semester, we have been looking at games, novels, and critical scholarship that have explored the relationship between digital technologies and print and media technologies at the borders of video games and novels. This is a scary thought, but it may happen if technology reaches that point. But, if one was able to correctly assemble this kind of figure, how would we be able to tell a difference? According to Katherine Hayes, she says In the posthuman, there are no essential differences or absolute demarcations between bodily existences and computer simulation, cybernetic mechanism and biological organism, robot teleology and human goals (Hayes 3). The captain s dreams of the dead suggest that he has lived a long and full life, and the fact that those in his dreams rejoice in the simple aspects of their lives suggests both that these are the things they miss the most, and also that Captain Cat knows that these aspects are not to be taken for granted. Mog Edwards and Miss Myfanwy Price have an eccentric relationship which, despite being from a distance, they celebrate and enjoy every day of their relationship until death do us part . The love they feel, whether or not it is for each other or for the idea of such a relationship, is an integral part to their lives and, although somewhat strange, it is a blessing that such love is not taken for granted. Thomas treats the two characters with satire, Mog Edwards being more taken with economical ideas of business being poorly than that of love as his letters consist for the most part of financial despair. It is hence perhaps the ease of the relationship which appeals to the couple the most; love, at a distance, is all they need to be happy, and the fact that they rejoice in such a relationship is not as humorous an idea as it is satisfying to know that such happy and eternal love is made the most of to the furthest extent possible. Roth s Firearms and Violence (NIJ Research in Brief, February 1994), he points out the obvious dangers. About 60 percent of all murder victims in the United States in 1989 (about 12,000 people) were killed with firearms. Firearm attacks injured another 70,000 victims, some of whom were left permanently disabled. In 1985, the cost of shootings was an estimated $14 billion nationwide for medical care, long term disability, and premature death. In robberies and assaults, victims are far more likely to die when the perpetrator is armed with a gun than when he or she has another weapon or is unarmed. I believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has been the position of the NRA for quite some time, and it is certainly one with which I agree; Felons and ex cons should not have access to weapons, and many misdemeanors and juvenile crimes should also count against a person s adult record. Stiffer sentences for gun crimes would be effective in using fear of reprimand as a crime deterrent. National as well as community funded gun education courses would increase gun awareness and safety. These programs could even be extended to public schools. Many guns are involved in accidents that could easily have been prevented by a little care or forethought. Also gun purchasers could be required to take lessons in gun safety, at the purchaser s expense. Again, the NRA has long been a proponent of gun education. Gun control is severely weakened by the few loopholes that exist in the system. These loopholes make it possible for minors and felons to obtain outlawed and high powered weapons. They also serve to weaken the strength of the Brady Bill and Gun registration. Adults are prohibited from transferring firearms to juveniles, but are not required to store guns in securely locked cabinets. This allows kids to get access to them. Advertising and capitalism are the main causes of affluenza in America. According to the textbook, affluenza is a painful, contagious, socially transmitted condition of overload, debt, anxiety and waste resulting from the dogged, pursuit of more . Forces such as advertising, cultural norms, the political economy, social pressures, and psychological associations shape the consumption patterns in consumers. According to Speth, America is a consumer society in which consumerism and materialism are central aspects of the dominant culture, where goods and services are acquired not only to satisfy common needs but also to secure identity and meaning . Consumers remain unfulfilled and are driven to seek more possessions, due to meaning and self realization not being met, nor basic psychological needs. One of the reasons that Americans suffer from affluenza more than consumers in other countries is because of the advertising in America.
