In December of 2008, my wife and I found out we would be having our fourth child. We were living
in Sugarloaf Key, FL while I worked in Key West, FL. Due to some unforeseen circumstances with
our land lord, we terminated our lease in Sugarloaf early, rather than trying to find a place for the
remaining six months we would be there. We moved the family back home to North Carolina over the
Christmas break from school. I still had six months or so remaining before I transferred to my new job

disaster preparedness. The federal government has programs put into place to help the victims of

Jane Austen, in her book Pride and Prejudice, ignores that fact that, at the time, women
were inferior to the men and makes many of the female character dominate to the male
characters which causes her novel to become of like a feminist novel. Some of the female
characters include Elizabeth, Mrs. Bennet, Lady Catherine, Lydia, Jane, Miss Darcy, Caroline,
and Miss Bingley just to name a few. The male characters on the other hand include Mr. Darcy,
Mr. Bingley. Mr. Bennet, Mr. Wickham, and Mr. Collins. Although there are a couple other male
characters, for example relatives of the Bennets, they show up in the novel for a short period of
time and are rarely mentioned afterword. Just by the list of the characters alone the reader can
already see the dominance of the female characters. But what makes Pride and Prejudice a
feminist novel is not the overwhelming amount female characters, but how these characters use
what limited power they had at the time to overrule the men in the novel.
The main character in this novel is a female Elizabeth Bennet. She is described and
shown as independent, caring, and someone who does not care about living up to society s
expectations. Elizabeth is also described as very beautiful and she is Mrs. Bennet s favorite

The journey to self discovery can be a laborious, grueling journey filled with opposition for the
surrounding aspects of everyday life, including hostility towards yourself. Whether this phase persists
through youth or old age; everyone must find their own niche in a world where being yourself is a
rarity, and portraying someone else is a commodity. This fact is prevalent through Jane Tompkins
novel, A Life in School: What the Teacher Learned, as the reader is immersed in the path to self
discovery and acceptation through a teacher s eyes. Tompkins portrays her life to us through an
introspective dissertation where attacks the school system and all it enthralls.
In the 5th grade, I became infatuated with orca whales; I knew everything there was to know about
them. One day in class, a fellow student started demeaning them and making false accusations. I was a
relatively quiet student but that day I found my voice. Although I was naïve, I was able to stand my
ground and defend something that I believed. Tompkins had an undeniably similar experience to mine

A fast food meal may not be so simple after all considering the ingredients that go into a meal. We
aren t fully aware of what all the ingredients are in our food. We just see either a short or a long list of
words that is just scientific jargon to us. We do become more concerned of what we are eating if there
is a long endless list of contents. One ingredient that we all know if high fructose corn syrup. There
are high amounts of it in our fast food which explains why we can get so addicted to fast food. Earlier
I said most of what a fast food meal is comprised of is sugar, carbs, and sodium. Sugar and fat are the
leading ingredients that give us an energy boost. They make energy dense foods which is what fast
food is an energy dense food. Energy dense foods are inexpensive to produce. Pollan says one reason
that obesity and diabetes become more prevalent the further down the socioeconomic scale you look is
that the industrial food chain has made energy dense foods the cheapest foods in the market (107).
Sugar is pretty cheap and it makes sense to price a meal at a low rate. We can t forget that most of a
meal is also comprised of corn which make it cheaper too. Because they are inexpensive, their price
isn t sky high which makes it ideal for low income families. They are able to afford a high calorie

Conviction is an American drama television show that centers around a new department of the New
York County District Attorney s Office called the Conviction Integrity Unit or the CIU. The CIU was
created to reinvestigate any cases that could have been wrongfully convicted due to any external
factors. The team has four members, an Assistant District Attorney (Sam Spencer), a former New York
Police Department Detective who became District Attorney Investigator (Maxine Bohen), a Paralegal
(Tess Larson) and a Forensic Technician (Frankie Cruz). They work under a Defense Attorney who
was intimidated into the job as a result of a possible arrest because of drug possession.
Every week, the team leader must choose a case that has been closed. They have five days to figure
out what details in the case which could have by any chance caused a false conviction of an innocent
