2016 Sir Lancer Bots Chairman s Essay
2016 Sir Lancer Bots Chairman s Essay
We want to be the team that can help out others when their machines go down; we want to be like the
[Sir] Lancer Bots. These are the words from the coach of Team 4230 Topperbots based out of Duluth,
MN. A member from Team 5339 from Houston, MN, explained in an interview, the La Crescent team,
the Sir Lancer Bots, were excellent mentors. The Hurricanes couldn t have done it without their
support and expertise. We are FIRST Team 2977 Sir Lancer Bots from La Crescent, Minnesota. Our
dynamic journey with First Robotics Competition started in 2009. During our rookie season, the team
consisted of only nine members; this was a great learning endeavor for all involved, we persisted and
learned as much as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After three incredible years and two competitions as the sole FRC team in our area, we grew the
program by starting three teams in La Crosse, WI; Team 4021 at Luther High School, Team 4011 at
Aquinas High School, and Team 4054 at La Crosse Central High School. Together we formed the
beginning of the 7 Rivers Robotics Coalition. This philosophy of helping and working together as a
cohesive alliance of teams carries us forward and remains a major motivation in our team today.
One of the highlights of our season each year is the 7 RRC Week Zero Event; a mini competition run
by our coalition the last Sunday of the build season. Teams in the coalition take turns hosting this
useful and exciting clash. After our first week zero event, Team 4021, one of the teams we started in
2012, went on to win the Rookie All Star Award. Two years later, the Sir Lancer Bots started three
more teams; Team 5019 in West Salem, Team 5339 in Houston, and Team 5003 in Onalaska. During
the 2014 season West Salem and Houston both won the Rookie All Star award at their respective
competitions. In 2014, the Seven Rivers Robotics Coalition became a 501 (c)3 non profit organization.
Individual teams have become non profits before, but never before had a group of teams been
organized this way. We could now apply for larger sponsors and most importantly, spread and practice
our philosophy of teaching, mentoring, and helping one another across all borders.

Why Do Gorillas Be Kept In Zoos

Gorillas In Zoos
There has been a long history of debate about whether or not gorillas should be held captive. It is an
ongoing controversy where some people believe they should not be captivated in a zoo because it is
extremely important to their well being and therefore live shorter lives. However, others believe that
they are safer in captivity because they are away from all dangers including predators. Some would
see a zoo as the ideal place for gorillas. They believe it is not only safe for the gorillas, it is also
informational for humans.
There are many reasons why gorillas are kept in zoos. They are objects of continuous research because
their genetic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some gorillas become highly aggressive after being in captivity, posing a threat to visitors and
workers alike. Animals in captivity can develop severe health problems, even with a high quality
treatment plan. Then there is the topic of ethical dilemmas. Gorillas are extremely intelligent apes with
characteristics similar to humans. There are many groups and organizations that are for protecting the
lives of apes, including gorillas. Those involved in these coalitions argue that these primates are
individuals who have highly developed social, emotional and cognitive abilities, and should have three
basic privileges: the right to life, the protection of their freedom and the prohibition to torture them.
Another argument that zoos can be beneficial for preserving and conserving the lives of gorillas is that
most gorillas get to reach adult age because they are kept in captivity. Living in their natural habitats,
they can be snatched and taken away as easy prey at any given moment. At least in captivity they are
cared for and provided with the basic necessities to survive. The facilities they are kept in are routinely
cleaned and maintained on a daily basis. Zoos provide an educational resource and can provide a
protected environment for these endangered

Admiral Mcraven s 10 Lessons Commencement Speech
Every day, thousands of speeches are given. Some of those speeches are long and drawn out while
others are created in the heat of the moment. But, regardless of its content, there is a huge difference
between a run of the mill speech and a great one. That difference being its relevance, memorability,
and honesty. Admiral William H. McRaven accomplished each of those components in his 10 lessons
commencement speech given at the University of Texas at Austin in 2014. During his speech, Admiral
McRaven detailed his time in basic SEAL training and referenced the 10 life lessons that he learned
from it. He then ends the speech with a call to action that is met with a tremendous ovation from the
crowd. With that reaction, it was clear that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he spoke, the Admiral made time to humanize himself with humor and not be seen as just another
hardened military official. From his sugar cookie reference to showing off his UT pride, his
transparency with the crowd was on full display. By doing this, he was able to speak open and
honestly about his experiences and while reminding the crowd, once again, that he is one of them. His
style of speaking was the perfect complement to his speech topic and made him a trustworthy source
of advice for the young audience. In conclusion, Admiral McRaven s speech had all of the factors
needed to be considered great. From beginning to end, McRaven was able to capture the audience s
attention while delivering a powerful message that can be applied to any listener s life. The reason for
that being the case is that as humans, we all have challenges that we must overcome. Even though
many people possess the ability to do so, most are often defeated by their own mind and thus never
truly reach their full potential. But, after hearing a speech such as this, it is hard not to be inspired to

Mercury s Orbit
In 265 b.c the first discovery of Mercury was made by Timocharis of Alexandria. Timocharis was a
Greek astronomer and philosopher. However little was known of him, like whether or not he had a
family or where he lived. Mercury was named after the gods messenger, Mercury was the son of
Jupiter and Maia. Jupiter was the god of light and sky, he was the protector of the state and its laws.
Maia was the goddess of spring, she healed the earth and helped it grow.
Mercury has nearly no atmosphere, Mercury does however have an exosphere. An exosphere is a thin
layer of atoms blasted off its surface by solar flares and striking micrometeoroids. Inside of this thin
exosphere there has been no wind erosions of the surface. Seeing as Mercury has ... Show more

One Mercury year is only about 88 days on Earth. A powerful feature of Mercury is its orbit it is one
of the fastest orbiting planets compared the rest in our solar system. Out of all the planets orbits,
Mercury s orbit is the least circular. Mercury s orbit is not circular because Mercury s the closet orbital
distance to the Sun rather than being larger when contrasted with that of the other planets it is wider.
Along with other planets, Mercury s surface experiences a wider range of extreme temperatures than
any other planet in the Solar System, that we know of. It is very simple to explain, Mercury s surface
is much hotter than any other planet, due to the direct heat for part of the day. Conveniently, the
temperatures of other planets remain relatively stable because their atmospheres being virtually the
same. Over time the orbit of Mercury shifts slightly around the Sun, this process is known as
precession. This was a constant problem for astronomers in the late nineteen hundreds and early
twenty hundreds. Many theories were presented to show the difference between the actual and
fictional ideas. One idea even suggested the idea of a unknown planet closer to the Sun than Mercury
had been. The truth was eventually proven when Einstein published his great theory, that there was
another planet before Mercury, but he had no real proof of its existence. As a result of this theory,
Mercury s orbit idea was finally described exactly how it was. Though it had been believed for a long
time that Mercury s spin orbit was not correct, it was discovered in the mid twenty hundreds that it is,
in fact, correct. This idea produced what would soon be a great discovery for a satellite that the planet
does indeed orbit. Mercury s orbit takes the small planet as close as 29 million miles and as far as 43
million miles from the sun. If one

Aeneas Research Paper
Roman myth and mythology were merely the continuation of Greek myths and legends, with some
Roman changes to suit the needs of the times. Through ancient writers such as Livy and Dionysius of
Halicarnassus, we have uncovered the intertwined nature of Greek myths and mythology had upon the
Roman mythology story.
Aeneas as described in the Iliad was the son of Aphrodite and Anchises a cousin of the king Priam of
Troy. Aeneas was said to have the gods watch over him as he is fated not to die. During the fighting in
Troy Aeneas is wounded by Diomedes. This triggers Aphrodite to rush in to save her son, but she is
wounded and Aeneas is subsequently saved by Apollo. Likewise in Greek hero myths the hero set out
on a journey, in this case Aeneas is fated by the gods the survive and found a city, it was said that

that Rome will achieve . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Troublesome gods, journey into the underworld and founding of a city. Also a common aspect of
Aeneas and other Greek mythical heroes is the fact that one of the heroes parents is a god and the
other is a mortal in this case Aeneas s mother is Aphrodite and his father a mortal. This is a common
occurrence as many Greek heroes have a god as a parent one such well know example is Hercules
whose father was Zeus the king of the gods. Roman mythology was intertwined with Greek myths,
with many of the Roman gods influenced and accepted as Roman gods, with only their names
changed, Zeus to Jupiter Ares to Mars are two such examples. However the Roman did have some non
Greek gods. The Lares and the Penates have no such equivalent Greek god. Lares were sprits that
protected fields and hearth as well as protectors of the household. The Penates protected the

The Ability Of Overcome Degenerative Policy Making Is...
The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis which deconstructs
policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics and deceptions (Schneider Ingram
1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and should provide a clear vision of possibilities,
explanations of how and why antidemocratic elements are embedded in policy designs, and
interpretations of how designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to
Stone (2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the rational
model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired behavior.
Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction the target in order to
elicit the desired behavior. Instead, lack of information or capacity is the primary barrier, and once the
appropriate information is relayed to the target, the desired behavior will follow (Schneider Ingram,
1997; Stone, 2011). However, people use a variety of strategies to help their interests and political
goals. Critics of rational choice theory contend that people act largely according to prior attitudes and
beliefs rather than new information (Stone, 2011, p. 314). One must be aware of human and social
behavior if they are to try and analyze policy.
Schneider Ingram (1997) identify some general principles (203 206) to look for during policy analysis.
Target groups should be constructed across the lines of

The Veldt by Ray Bradbury
Were there lions in the room? Ray Bradbury was raised in a small town in Illinois. He gets the setting
for many of his stories from Green Town. When Bradbury was young, he spent time listening to the
radio and going to the library. He received inspiration from a magician, Mr. Electrico. Bradbury wrote
many science fiction books and short stories. Some of his most famous works include Fahrenheit 451,
The Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way, and more. The Veldt is about a family who
lives in a technological house. The parents, George and Lydia Hadley, bought the house because they
wanted the best for their children, Wendy and Peter. The house does all of the normal activities people
do for themselves, such as tying their shoes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the realistic part of the nursery. It was real for the reader as well as the characters in the
story. Imagery also shows the family situation at home. George and Lydia only want the best for their
children, however sometimes they give in too much. That sounds dreadful...And brush my own teeth
and comb my hair and give myself a bath? (Bradbury). Peter was afraid that he would actually have to
do work. This describes how spoiled they are at home. Moreover, his description of the veldt also
conveys an atmosphere of menace and hostility mirroring the psychological state of the Hadley family
(Bernardo). This shows how the family has trouble getting along with each other because of the
hostility caused by the veldt. Lastly, it portrays the dreamlike quality of the house. They describe the
room as being easy to dream. How often had he seen Pegasus flying in the sky ceiling, or seen
fountains of red fireworks, or heard angel voices singing (Bradbury). This also shows that the children
enjoy going into the nursery to dream very often. Hence, the story has an air of unreality about it as if
it were simply a child s daydream of a world in which children have the power and competence given
to adults and adults have the helplessness of children (Bernardo). The nursery depicts a dreamlike
quality and it gives the children the freedom to live in a world they would imagine. Imagery helps
move the plot further along in the story. The

practices. Wristbands used for identification can assist with identifying the correct patient in the six
rights of medication administration. While this is not a failsafe answer it is valuable in providing a
safe practice of medication administration to patients. Discuss Bar Code Scanning in Medication
Administration (BCMA) The following articles were reviewed for the purpose of addressing bar code
scanning in medication administration. Nursing requires the critical skill of accurate medication
administration. The use of electronic medication administration has brought about many changes in
the healthcare field. The article, What Determines Successful Implementation of Inpatient Information
Technology Systems (Spetz et al 2012), was reviewed to address the above question. Computerized
patients records and bar code medication systems continue to gain favor in healthcare. This idea
spread across the nation in all VA sites (Spetz et al., 2012, p. 157), providing a safer environment for
patient care. The use of bar code scanning utilizes the perfection of computers into medication
administration process. Training to use (BCMA) indicated from the article can be cumbersome and
staff can be apprehensive about the change. The time needed

Insenstivity Of Humanness In The Stranger By Albert Camus
In society, behaving in a way that distances oneself from others is viewed as unacceptable: be it
mentally or physically. In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the main character, Meursault,
does just that. Throughout the novel, Meursault creates a problem for himself by emphasizing his
individual existence rather than acknowledging others. The text suggests that the solution to the
presented problem for Meursault is to recognize the subjectivity of others around him: such as his
mother and friends.
Meursault primarily shows his insensitivity toward others at his mother s funeral. At the funeral,
Meursault does not cry or show any signs of mourning the death of his mother. He is very passive, and
he even disregards the feelings of others present. The text states, The woman kept on crying. It
surprised me, because I didn t know who she was. I wished I didn t have to listen to her anymore (10).
This quote demonstrates Meursault s passivity about the feelings of others. He puts off the feelings of
the woman due to the fact that he has never seen her and he wants her to essentially shut up. This
insensitivity towards others and his own mother s death is eventually used against him when he is
being tried for murder. The fact that Meursault did not cry during the funeral and that he admittedly
smoked in front of his mother s casket while keeping vigil leads the prosecutor to question Meursault s
place in society. As Meursault sits in the courtroom, in his mind he

An Investment Thesis Statement
2.6.1 How Should You Pick Your Targets? Invest With a Thesis An investment thesis is a statement on
how a specific deal will create value for a partic ular merged company. This document explains why
and how an acquisition improves the existing core business. Firms compete on cost position, brand
power, customer loy alty, assets and sometimes government protection (Harding, D. and Rovit, S.
2004). In order to develop an investment thesis you need to analyse the core competency of your own
business and how the firm produces value. Furthermore, acquires need to under stand how to enhance
core competency by acquiring outside targets. In order to suc cessfully identify appropriate target the
acquirer must determine its own basis of com petition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These revolve around the question of where do operations need to be integrated, and where the
merging businesses can carry on separately. To answer this work with four decision principles
(Harding, D. and Rovit, S. 2004). 1) Plan for ownership. Launch integration plans months prior to the
deal being publicly announced. Link decisions to the deal s in vestment thesis and to the synergies and
cultural issues identified. Integrate quickly in critical areas. 2) Target areas for integration based on the
investment thesis. Mergers aimed at creating economies of scale require almost seamless integration.
However, mergers aimed at product extension, customer and geographic scope require selective
integration. 3) Put culture high on your leadership agenda. Managers of merged organi zations need to
retool their corporate culture to fit with the deal s investment thesis. Tools include hard tactics
organizational structure, incentives compensation and the di vision of decision making authority to
address cultural integration. 4) Retain key re sources in the core businesses. Mergers can exert a
gravitational pull on employees. Keep the talented focused on taking care of business. Develop a plan
to maintain key employees and protect the customer base. Effective integration generally ranks as the
single most important factor influencing the success of a deal (Harding, D. and Rovit, S.

Born hearing to deaf, signing parents, Mark gradually lost his hearing. Despite the fact that his deaf
parents preferred sign communication, Mark was raised and educated without the use of sign
language. His parents and grandparents were concerned that sign might interfere with speech and
restrict his educational achievement. Although Mark became increasingly hard of hearing, he worked
hard to pass as a hearing person. This ambition, he later discovered, actually constricted his
development and limited the depth of relationships with family and friends. During these long years,

Fight Or Flight Theory
There are three different theories that are used when talking about how we react to stress through the
physiological aspect or the psychological aspect. The first is part of the physiological aspect of stress
called the Cannon Fight or Flight theory which was proposed in 1914. Fight or Flight response is a
physiological stress response that evolved to help organisms to survive immediate danger. The theory
states that when an organism, human being or animal, faces imminent danger (acute stressor) the body
arouses quickly and is ready to act via two different systems. They are the sympathetic nervous system
and the endocrine system. The sympathetic nervous system stimulates the adrenal medulla which is
part of the endocrine system and is the region that produces the hormones such as adrenaline and
noradrenaline. These hormones increase heart rate, blood flow, and glucose levels to prepare the body
for an emergency. This response from the body suggests that the body knows how to protect itself and
reach homeostasis. These two systems work together to either fight against the danger or flight away
from the danger. Lord, King and Pfister in 1976 studied the Fight or Flight response in animals
through a very unethical study. They administered chemicals on male hooded Wistar rats which
inhibited the neurotransmitters from functioning normally. This made it very difficult for the rats to
escape an electric shock. The results of the study suggest that the Flight or Fight response

Leadership Style And Personal Strengths Essay
Using Leadership Style and Personal Strengths to Succeed in a Doctoral Program Leadership is an
important outcome of the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program (Zaccagnini White, 2014).
Measurement tools are available that identify leadership style (Clark, 2010) and personal talents,
called Signature Themes (Gallup, Inc., 2010). When leadership style and personal strengths are
identified, they can be maximized to achieve success (Clark, 2010; Gallup, Inc., 2010). This paper
provides both a framework about the importance of leadership in the DNP curriculum and several
examples of how I will use my leadership style and Signature Themes to succeed in the DNP program.
Leadership in DNP Program Curricula Prior to the development of the DNP degree, several practice
focused doctoral programs existed in the United States; however, they did not have uniform curricular
standards (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2004). An AACN task force (2004)
studied the programs and recommended they be consolidated into one practice doctorate, called the
DNP. The AACN task force found that leadership preparation was a common curricular thread in each
practice doctoral program (AACN, 2004). In 2006, the AACN published The Essentials of Doctoral
Education for Advanced Nursing Practice to establish guidelines for DNP curriculum development.
The emphasis on leadership

Shamanism and the Indigenous Peoples of Siberia Essays
Shamanism and the Indigenous Peoples of Siberia
Shamanism plays a role within most tribal communities of the indigenous peoples of Siberia. Within
the community the shaman has many roles; one of his[1][1] main roles is that of a healer. The function
of the shaman is closely related to the spirit world (Eliade 71). A shaman uses ecstatic trance to
communicate with spirits. Spirits are integral to a shaman s ability to heal within his community.
Shamanic activity is generally a public function (Grim 11 12). Shamans are highly respected members
of the community. Shamans are of the elect ; recognition of a shaman can only be bestowed by the
entire community (Eliade 7, 17). Without the community, a shaman is not a shaman ... Show more

The gods created man, and he lived happily until the time when the evils spirits spread sickness and
death over the earth. The gods decided to give mankind a shaman to combat disease and death, and
they sent the eagle. (Eliade 69)
Many tribes, other than the Buryat, consider the eagle, sent by the Supreme Being, to be the creator of
the first shaman . These peoples include the Yakut of Turkhansk, Yenisei Ostyak, the Teleut, and the
Orochon. Therefore according to this legend, the shaman s initial purpose was to exterminate the evil
spirits of sickness and death that plagued the people; in other words, one of the shaman s first
purposes was to heal (Eliade 69 71).
As a healer, the shaman puts energy into the community. The shaman dramatizes and makes visible
the incomprehensible mystery of all existence. . . . The shaman s ritual assures the flow of such vital
energy into the community . . . [with the idea that] no man can succeed in life alone, and he cannot get
the help he needs from men (Vilmos Dioszegi qtd. in Grim 13). An individual needs this assistance
from the higher powers of the sacred and the profane in the spirit world; this assistance can only be
achieved with the guidance of the shaman.
The shaman allows the community to perceive holiness of higher powers by experiencing and
absorbing sustaining, healing power and communicating this power to his community. This power has
a transformative quality to it that is

Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to...
Why Are Stereotypes Dangerous and What Can Be Done to Reduce Them? Very often, in our
everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is
because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the complexity
of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do this on purpose,
with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of what we are doing.
Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin, way of speaking, and
many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous, and it can lead us to
creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries responded negativelly, because the
people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed against these people, and did not want to do
anything to help them understand and appreciate the other culture. Discrimination When the
stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our minds, they can grow and develop into something
more serious than prejudice. This is when we start acting and treating other people in a different, often
bad and inhumane way.[7] This is another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called
discrimination. There are many different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age,
nationality, sex, etc. One of the most common forms of discrimination is based on a well known
stereotype found in many movies, magazines, and even in cartoons. It is the stereotype of a dumb
blonde. [8] It is an image of a girl who is physically attractive, but lacks brains. This stereotype is so
powerful, that very often all blonde girls

Obesity Epidemic Summary
Bruce Y. Lee s article entitled How our Health Care System Is Feeding the Obesity Epidemic (2015),
suggests that while it s correct to suggest that personal choices can be blamed for the obesity health
crisis, the health care system in the United States also has to shoulder some of the blame. Lee (2015)
theorizes that failed financial incentives, lack of knowledge and training in medical education and
limitations of the physicians role regarding infrastructure and other policy making decisions have a
direct impact on the obesity and subsequent disease processes that are impacting the nation. Obesity in
America has increased over 20% in the last 35 years and is directly or indirectly the cause of multiple
hundreds of thousands of deaths

Microsoft, Mysql And Sql Server
When you start thinking about getting a database program for your company there are many popular
software names that come to mind. The first that come to my mind are Oracle, MySQL (structured
query language) and SQL Server, but let s take it one step further you have to know the pros and cons
for each program. By educating yourself on the differences between the programs you can know that
you are getting exactly what you need from the software. Even though they all do create databases,
different companies have special needs and the program that is chosen may not do what it is needed
without research. Some users might say that the cost plays a big part of the decision making process,
but you do not always just want to know how much they cost because you want to know how they
differ from each other. There are quite a few out there, let s start with the top three companies Oracle,
MySQL and SQL Server.
First, let us take a look at Oracle. Oracle has been the leader of database programs for years; it was
released for commercial use in 1980s. Oracle s first release was called Oracle 2 and it only supported
the basis features of SQL. (Lee, 2013) It was also the first to develop commercial layer SQL.
Commercial layer program is usually windows base and it works with SQL Server. Some of Oracle s
many features include the interface that can either be SQL (structured query language) or GUI
(graphical user interface). The languages it supports are C, C#, C++, Java, Ruby, Objective C

Cliff Bradshaw s Cabaret
Cabaret was set in the late 1920 s and was supposed to be a satire of the change of thinking and the
rise of the Nazi party. Cliff Bradshaw was supposed to represent the Americans and how they had
changed their ways of thinking. An example of this from the play was when Bradshaw was trying to
convince Sally Bowles to leave Germany with him because of the Nazi Party. On the other hand, Sally
Bowles was supposed to represent all of the individuals who did not want to see the changes in the
world and those who wanted to be oblivious to what was happening. This is also depicted in the same
scenario because Sally had no desire to leave Germany even though some of her fiends were being
targeted by the Nazis. The play does not focus much on the Nazi Party, however when the Party was
mentioned it because prevalent that the country was accepting to the beliefs of Hitler. This is shown
when Ernst Ludwig starts to bring in money for the Party. Ernst Ludwig also recruits Cliff Bradshaw
to help the Nazi Party, however when Bradshaw figures out what he is doing, he quits. When
Bradshaw quit helping the Nazi Party, he showed how the Americans felt about the objectives of the
Nazi Party. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she loved him. Later in the play Bradshaw gets beaten up by Ernest because he will not do another job

individuals of all faiths. Many times during the play, race and religion became a major

Analysis Of Def Jam s Under Pressure
In today s society of music, majority of artist s albums tells their life story or a story from their
imagination. However, not many artists can share their background in the same emotional way as
Logic did with his debut album Under Pressure. Logic provides beautiful melodies and aggressive
tones throughout the album to give a relaxing, easy listen that will make you want to keep it on replay.
With his style of storytelling, a well executed flow of lyrics with rhymes, and amazing production
within the studio, Under Pressure will have music lovers wanting more from the talented hip hop
artist.

Although this was his first album, he had already known that he was like no other artist. In the song
Soul Food, he states I swear this music in my genes like denim / Lyricism seeping, I m like venom /
Yes, I know the flow hotter than Lucifer / Even though Heaven sent him. With each song that goes by,
people will hear more and more bars go by that will leave them unable to sing along to the song, but
still able to understand the words that he is saying. One of the most lyrically flowing rhyme schemes
in the album comes from the song Growing Pains III, where without a stutter, he swiftly asserts When
will I lose my anonymity and become one with the enemy? / Tell me would I be the enemy, feel like
nobody in front of me. The song that possibly shows the most potential of his lyrics and flow,
however, would have to be the song Under Pressure. In this nine and a half minute song, Logic tends
to change his speed constantly, but does it in a way that does not alter the dynamics of the beats. A line
from the second verse demonstrates that he knows the talent he obtains while stating rapidly, Yeah my
stress up, but I m blessed up / F*** around and get messed up / When I murder the rhyme, I m living
divine / You know that I m one of a kind. In addition to the lyrics of the songs, listeners will also hear
the production value behind them as

Why I Should Start Over The Family Crisis
There are moments in life when important decisions are made which greatly impact and shape one s
life. I still remember mine as if it were yesterday. The day when my father decided to finally pay me a
visit. It was just another hot and humid summer day in Vietnam. The day when my conversation with
father got me leaving my past behind and came to the decision that I should start over again in
America. On that day, I realized how proud my family was of me before the family crisis, how the
crisis has haunted me, and how the conversation with my dad along with my family s support got me
back up to face the reality once again. It has been a year already, huh? I thought to myself as I took a
sip of the cold coffee from a corner of my favorite café shop which was located about twenty blocks
away from home. One year since the day I decided to give up trying to make something out of myself
in the foreign land and moved back to Vietnam to live with my family. Australia was a land of
opportunities where hard work is actually paid off. On the other hand, Vietnam was not much so due
to its status of being a developing country. I have spent a third of my life studying abroad in Australia
and I was sure of how proud my family was of me. I was an all rounded college student, who was able
to work and afford rent and food without family s support. Being an international student was not an
easy job when everything was expensive, especially the ridiculous university tuition fee. I still

Experiment to Measure the Concentration of Two Sugars
Soda, candy, sweets are extremely tasty because of all the sugar they contain. However, not many
people know that there are different types of sugar, and one kind of food can have multiple kinds of
sugar. Our bodies actually process the types of sugar differently, and with my science project, I will
measure the concentration of two sugars; glucose, and sucrose, in different foods and how sucrose is
converted into glucose with an enzyme called invertase, just like it would in our bodies. This will help
figure out how the amount of glucose we digest fluctuates with the enzyme converting sucrose into
glucose. Sweet tasty foods are one of the hearts great desires. The main reason why they are such a
want is due to the sugar in them. The nutrition label often shows how much sugar are in these foods,
but the sugar you probably see the most of is sucrose, generally the white granules of sugar used for
backing delicious sweets like cupcakes and lollipops. For example, the nutrition label for a 20 fl oz.
Dr. Pepper contains 64 g of sugar, and a total of 66g of carbohydrates. Even an original cheesecake
from the cheesecake factory contains about 27 grams or more of sugar, with the total amount of carbs
being 32 g. With there being several types of sugars, all of them technically being carbohydrates
chemical compounds that only have carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and are mainly made by plants.
The second type of sugar commonly found in foods is Glucose. In the body, sucrose is

Guatemala’s Presidential Election and Security as People’s...
Poverty and crime are common in Guatemala; it has one of the worst crime rates in Latin America.
Forty three percent of children under the age of five are chronically malnourished and the murder rate
last year was forty two per a hundred thousand people one of the highest in the world. Presidential
elections in Guatemala ended on Sunday, November sixth of this year. The elections were base on the
voters concerns for security. After suffering through more than a few decades of military dictatorship
and civil war, this country of about thirteen million people craved for a leader who would provide
them with safety. They wanted a leader who would get them off the list of being one of the countries

Being the first military man to be taken into consideration for governing since the peace accords were
established in 1996, Molina would not normally be the favorite at the voting polls. However, his
military background did not appear to be a problem during his campaign. Liberal voters voiced their
uneasiness over the vision of a tough talking military man in charge. Nevertheless, others saw Molina
s military experience as an advantage during a violence crisis. We want the mano dura, said Olga
Alicia Argueta, leader of the vendors association at a crowded market in Guatemala. A soldier brings
his methods to take hard actions, and that s what our country needs. The vendors, like many other
Guatemalans elsewhere, sound almost as a single voice when asked what their top concerns were on
the day before the election. Their answer: security, security, and security.
Molina s campaign against crime boosted his popularity as the Prensa Libre announced that the
killings in Guatemala City run about twelve a day only. Riding the bus in the main city can be a
dangerous exercise and gun wielding thieves frequently step on board to rob, and often shoot, drivers
and passengers. Whilst in the northern countryside, the coming of Mexico s most vicious gang the

President Alvaro Colom the man who defeated him in the

Compare And Contrast The Outsiders Book And Movie
The OUTSIDERS , a book and movie, portrays a small gang going through hard times. The Book and
Movie may have the same plot but have small yet noticeable differences. Both stories take place
around Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. These should be compared to show why sometimes movies get
things wrong and why the book tends to be better, in this case they both stick to the plot with only a
few missing or added details, such as the book is slower paced but has more detail, the movie misses
or adds small details, and the movie destroys your thought of what characters look like.
The movie is fairly similar to the book except for a few exceptions. One of the main things is that the
movie is less detailed and is faster paced. Another thing is that pony never went to the hospital after
the fire and didn t have a concussion. When Dallas was driving to the hospital with Pony and he got
pulled over by the police who was on a motorcycle. While At the hospital Johnny s mom comes to
visit him but Pony and Dallas don t talk to her. When Dally leaves he goes and robs a store and the
police are after him. Then when the police catch him he raises his unloaded handgun and the police
shoot him. He gets shot once and does a few rolls stands up and gets shot more. The gang goes home
after finding Dally and Ponyboy starts writing the Outsiders . In the book The Outsiders there is more
detail and the plot seems to go at a slower pace than the movie. The greasers are from the west side of

AirThread
Valuation of AirThread
This case deals with the valuation of AirThread Connections Business (ATC) from the perspective of
its potential acquirer, American Cable Communication (ACC). ACC is a large cable operator which
serves the video, internet and landline telephony needs of millions of users across America. However
it is recently looking to acquire ATC which is one of the largest wireless companies in the United
States. This acquisition will bring with it certain synergies that both can benefit from, which is
primarily the reason behind the valuation requirements of AirThread.
Methodological approach to value AirThread
American Cable Communication is interested in raising significant capital following the Leveraged

Using the other data provided in Exhibit 1 of the case study, we can calculate the Un Levered Free
Cash Flow for ATC during the period 2008 2012 as shown in the above table.
Discount rate calculation for AirThread
To calculate the discount rate for AirThread, we have looked at the industry Asset Beta (this measures
the systematic business risk).
The Asset Beta for each firm is calculated using the formula βa= βe/1+(D/E)(1 t)
e.g. For Universal Mobile this value is computed as follows (we are using the tax rate as 40%)
0.86 / (1 + (0.923)(1 0.4) = 0.5534
The Industry average is simply the average of all the firms listed. Once we have the Asset Beta, we
can calculate the Equity beta using the following formula βe = βa/ (1 (D/V))
The highlighted row represents the average Debt/Value ratio for the industry as seen in the previous
table. Therefore the Unlevered Cost of

Emily Dickinson Diction
Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye. Emily Dickinson s great poem, Much Madness is
Divinest, expresses the true rebellious persona that Dickinson was from within and the sense of
frustration she had at being a very intelligent woman living during a time where men were the much
dominant. The poet uses this poem to reflect the anger she felt (although she was said to be very
reserved and quiet spoken) towards the society she lived in. When it came to putting down her
feelings on paper, Dickinson did not hold back. In her work Dickinson utilizes the concept of slant
rhyme, a wide ranged use of diction, and tone setting to give us her thoughts in concern to the society
that she much resented. Dickinson employs slant rhyme to emphasize the true madness in society.
Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye; much sense the starkest madness. The use of ...

words as Assent and Demur draw a comparison in between society and those who are seen as mad .
For Dickinson, the individuals who demur are set aside as mad and society takes charge in restraining
them. For all the others who assent and follow into what society expects from them they receive
society s acceptance and the label of being sane. What people didn t realize was that the madness that
they so much feared, if fully embraced, could be a magnificent quality. It could allow a person to see
things that many others denied the existence of. Dickinson with her diverse and creative use of words
suggests that society was comprised of commonness which was the actual true madness. The act of
living one s life in conformity of the expectations of others, and never trying to achieve one s own

This unit existed until May 2003 when the anti corruption and economic crimes Act (ACECA),
established the Kenya Anti corruption commission (KACC). The ACECA replaced the prevention of
corruption Act, 1956. ACECA is the key statute in the fight against corruption and is complimented by
the public office ethics Act. Past reforms on public expenditure management have not worked well as
the executive arm of the government has consistently failed to act on various recommendations of the
watchdog institutions on the mismanagement of public funds. Similarly, the stated war against
corruption, which is rampant in the public expenditure management, is yet to be won mainly due to
legal technicalities encountered in trying to establish an effective and independent anti corruption
authority. There is therefore need for a thorough examination of the fiscal systems with a view to
formulating pragmatic remedial measures (Baumol, 2003). Research Problem Statement The problem
of this study is to explore the effects of corruption on the economic growth in Kenya. Corruption cases
reported to KACC increased by 16 % from 3637 in 2,008 to 4473 in 2009 (economic survey 2010).
Corruption affects both the nation and the individual. At the national level, corruption has led to poor
economic performance. This has resulted in: increased taxation burdens on Kenyans; unplanned,
misdirected expenditure on projects

Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls By Katha Pollitt And Silko...
In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as well as
how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from their gender.
Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of thinking, how they view
their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime. In both Katha Pollitt and Silko
s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and women and how these differences result
from society s expectations by using metaphors and life examples to explain their message to the
reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this message.
In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a boy
growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between genders in
early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in. Parents and feminist
alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. They raise their kids wanting them to be successful
at what they are expected to be good at based on their gender and the trend that has been set before
them.
In an excerpt from Pollitt s essay, she references a metaphor of the lives of boys and girls through a
doll and a truck, as well as Mars and Venus when she says, A girl with a doll and a boy with a truck
explain why men are from Mars and women are from Venus, why wives do housework and

Historical Precedents For The Rise Of Rock N Roll
Covers versions are credited to be one of the most important precedents for the rise of rock n roll. This
commercial and musical phenomenon is the use of a previously recorded song that is either remade or
reinterpreted by another group or artist. There is an argument that cover versions are employed by
bands and artists in order to cash in on the success that the original version provided the original artist.
However, as in all debates, there is a side that argues that cover versions reinterpret or reimage the
original song and change the experience and the meaning of the song based on how the artist or group
reinterprets or reimages it. In the following singles, California Dreamin , I Will Always Love You, and
She s Like the Wind there are examples of the latter argument of artists reinterpreting or reimaging the
original singles in their covers. Starting in California, where dreamin is a way to contemplate the
meaning of one s life. At least that is the Mamas and Papas original version of California Dreamin.
The Mamas and Papas were a group situated in Los Angles and the Southern California pop scene and
what made them emerge out among other pop or folk groups was the mixture of male and female
voices. California Dreamin, recorded by The Mamas and Papas in 1965, is credited to be an anthem of
those heady times of the 1960s. Although the single never reached the number one spot on the charts,
the single remained on the charts for 17

  • 2. 2016 Sir Lancer Bots Chairman s Essay 2016 Sir Lancer Bots Chairman s Essay We want to be the team that can help out others when their machines go down; we want to be like the [Sir] Lancer Bots. These are the words from the coach of Team 4230 Topperbots based out of Duluth, MN. A member from Team 5339 from Houston, MN, explained in an interview, the La Crescent team, the Sir Lancer Bots, were excellent mentors. The Hurricanes couldn t have done it without their support and expertise. We are FIRST Team 2977 Sir Lancer Bots from La Crescent, Minnesota. Our dynamic journey with First Robotics Competition started in 2009. During our rookie season, the team consisted of only nine members; this was a great learning endeavor for all involved, we persisted and learned as much as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After three incredible years and two competitions as the sole FRC team in our area, we grew the program by starting three teams in La Crosse, WI; Team 4021 at Luther High School, Team 4011 at Aquinas High School, and Team 4054 at La Crosse Central High School. Together we formed the beginning of the 7 Rivers Robotics Coalition. This philosophy of helping and working together as a cohesive alliance of teams carries us forward and remains a major motivation in our team today. One of the highlights of our season each year is the 7 RRC Week Zero Event; a mini competition run by our coalition the last Sunday of the build season. Teams in the coalition take turns hosting this useful and exciting clash. After our first week zero event, Team 4021, one of the teams we started in 2012, went on to win the Rookie All Star Award. Two years later, the Sir Lancer Bots started three more teams; Team 5019 in West Salem, Team 5339 in Houston, and Team 5003 in Onalaska. During the 2014 season West Salem and Houston both won the Rookie All Star award at their respective competitions. In 2014, the Seven Rivers Robotics Coalition became a 501 (c)3 non profit organization. Individual teams have become non profits before, but never before had a group of teams been organized this way. We could now apply for larger sponsors and most importantly, spread and practice our philosophy of teaching, mentoring, and helping one another across all borders. Every year the coalition ... • 3. Why Do Gorillas Be Kept In Zoos Alynna Gallardo Schauer Expository 1 May, 2018 Gorillas In Zoos There has been a long history of debate about whether or not gorillas should be held captive. It is an ongoing controversy where some people believe they should not be captivated in a zoo because it is extremely important to their well being and therefore live shorter lives. However, others believe that they are safer in captivity because they are away from all dangers including predators. Some would see a zoo as the ideal place for gorillas. They believe it is not only safe for the gorillas, it is also informational for humans. There are many reasons why gorillas are kept in zoos. They are objects of continuous research because their genetic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some gorillas become highly aggressive after being in captivity, posing a threat to visitors and workers alike. Animals in captivity can develop severe health problems, even with a high quality treatment plan. Then there is the topic of ethical dilemmas. Gorillas are extremely intelligent apes with characteristics similar to humans. There are many groups and organizations that are for protecting the lives of apes, including gorillas. Those involved in these coalitions argue that these primates are individuals who have highly developed social, emotional and cognitive abilities, and should have three basic privileges: the right to life, the protection of their freedom and the prohibition to torture them. Another argument that zoos can be beneficial for preserving and conserving the lives of gorillas is that most gorillas get to reach adult age because they are kept in captivity. Living in their natural habitats, they can be snatched and taken away as easy prey at any given moment. At least in captivity they are cared for and provided with the basic necessities to survive. The facilities they are kept in are routinely cleaned and maintained on a daily basis. Zoos provide an educational resource and can provide a protected environment for these endangered ... • 4. Admiral Mcraven s 10 Lessons Commencement Speech Every day, thousands of speeches are given. Some of those speeches are long and drawn out while others are created in the heat of the moment. But, regardless of its content, there is a huge difference between a run of the mill speech and a great one. That difference being its relevance, memorability, and honesty. Admiral William H. McRaven accomplished each of those components in his 10 lessons commencement speech given at the University of Texas at Austin in 2014. During his speech, Admiral McRaven detailed his time in basic SEAL training and referenced the 10 life lessons that he learned from it. He then ends the speech with a call to action that is met with a tremendous ovation from the crowd. With that reaction, it was clear that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As he spoke, the Admiral made time to humanize himself with humor and not be seen as just another hardened military official. From his sugar cookie reference to showing off his UT pride, his transparency with the crowd was on full display. By doing this, he was able to speak open and honestly about his experiences and while reminding the crowd, once again, that he is one of them. His style of speaking was the perfect complement to his speech topic and made him a trustworthy source of advice for the young audience. In conclusion, Admiral McRaven s speech had all of the factors needed to be considered great. From beginning to end, McRaven was able to capture the audience s attention while delivering a powerful message that can be applied to any listener s life. The reason for that being the case is that as humans, we all have challenges that we must overcome. Even though many people possess the ability to do so, most are often defeated by their own mind and thus never truly reach their full potential. But, after hearing a speech such as this, it is hard not to be inspired to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mercury s Orbit In 265 b.c the first discovery of Mercury was made by Timocharis of Alexandria. Timocharis was a Greek astronomer and philosopher. However little was known of him, like whether or not he had a family or where he lived. Mercury was named after the gods messenger, Mercury was the son of Jupiter and Maia. Jupiter was the god of light and sky, he was the protector of the state and its laws. Maia was the goddess of spring, she healed the earth and helped it grow. Mercury has nearly no atmosphere, Mercury does however have an exosphere. An exosphere is a thin layer of atoms blasted off its surface by solar flares and striking micrometeoroids. Inside of this thin exosphere there has been no wind erosions of the surface. Seeing as Mercury has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One Mercury year is only about 88 days on Earth. A powerful feature of Mercury is its orbit it is one of the fastest orbiting planets compared the rest in our solar system. Out of all the planets orbits, Mercury s orbit is the least circular. Mercury s orbit is not circular because Mercury s the closet orbital distance to the Sun rather than being larger when contrasted with that of the other planets it is wider. Along with other planets, Mercury s surface experiences a wider range of extreme temperatures than any other planet in the Solar System, that we know of. It is very simple to explain, Mercury s surface is much hotter than any other planet, due to the direct heat for part of the day. Conveniently, the temperatures of other planets remain relatively stable because their atmospheres being virtually the same. Over time the orbit of Mercury shifts slightly around the Sun, this process is known as precession. This was a constant problem for astronomers in the late nineteen hundreds and early twenty hundreds. Many theories were presented to show the difference between the actual and fictional ideas. One idea even suggested the idea of a unknown planet closer to the Sun than Mercury had been. The truth was eventually proven when Einstein published his great theory, that there was another planet before Mercury, but he had no real proof of its existence. As a result of this theory, Mercury s orbit idea was finally described exactly how it was. Though it had been believed for a long time that Mercury s spin orbit was not correct, it was discovered in the mid twenty hundreds that it is, in fact, correct. This idea produced what would soon be a great discovery for a satellite that the planet does indeed orbit. Mercury s orbit takes the small planet as close as 29 million miles and as far as 43 million miles from the sun. If one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Aeneas Research Paper Roman myth and mythology were merely the continuation of Greek myths and legends, with some Roman changes to suit the needs of the times. Through ancient writers such as Livy and Dionysius of Halicarnassus, we have uncovered the intertwined nature of Greek myths and mythology had upon the Roman mythology story. Aeneas as described in the Iliad was the son of Aphrodite and Anchises a cousin of the king Priam of Troy. Aeneas was said to have the gods watch over him as he is fated not to die. During the fighting in Troy Aeneas is wounded by Diomedes. This triggers Aphrodite to rush in to save her son, but she is wounded and Aeneas is subsequently saved by Apollo. Likewise in Greek hero myths the hero set out on a journey, in this case Aeneas is fated by the gods the survive and found a city, it was said that Poseidon foresaw, Aeneas decedents ruling the Mediterranean, with Aeneas farseeing the greatness that Rome will achieve . ... This is a common occurrence as many Greek heroes have a god as a parent one such well know example is Hercules whose father was Zeus the king of the gods. Roman mythology was intertwined with Greek myths, with many of the Roman gods influenced and accepted as Roman gods, with only their names changed, Zeus to Jupiter Ares to Mars are two such examples. • 7. The Ability Of Overcome Degenerative Policy Making Is... The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis which deconstructs policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics and deceptions (Schneider Ingram 1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and should provide a clear vision of possibilities, explanations of how and why antidemocratic elements are embedded in policy designs, and interpretations of how designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to Stone (2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the rational model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired behavior. Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction the target in order to elicit the desired behavior. Instead, lack of information or capacity is the primary barrier, and once the appropriate information is relayed to the target, the desired behavior will follow (Schneider Ingram, 1997; Stone, 2011). However, people use a variety of strategies to help their interests and political goals. Critics of rational choice theory contend that people act largely according to prior attitudes and beliefs rather than new information (Stone, 2011, p. 314). One must be aware of human and social behavior if they are to try and analyze policy. Schneider Ingram (1997) identify some general principles (203 206) to look for during policy analysis. Target groups should be constructed across the lines of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Veldt by Ray Bradbury Were there lions in the room? Ray Bradbury was raised in a small town in Illinois. He gets the setting for many of his stories from Green Town. When Bradbury was young, he spent time listening to the radio and going to the library. He received inspiration from a magician, Mr. Electrico. Bradbury wrote many science fiction books and short stories. Some of his most famous works include Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way, and more. The Veldt is about a family who lives in a technological house. The parents, George and Lydia Hadley, bought the house because they wanted the best for their children, Wendy and Peter. It was real for the reader as well as the characters in the story. Imagery also shows the family situation at home. George and Lydia only want the best for their children, however sometimes they give in too much. That sounds dreadful...And brush my own teeth and comb my hair and give myself a bath? (Bradbury). Peter was afraid that he would actually have to do work. This describes how spoiled they are at home. Moreover, his description of the veldt also conveys an atmosphere of menace and hostility mirroring the psychological state of the Hadley family (Bernardo). This shows how the family has trouble getting along with each other because of the hostility caused by the veldt. Lastly, it portrays the dreamlike quality of the house. They describe the room as being easy to dream. How often had he seen Pegasus flying in the sky ceiling, or seen fountains of red fireworks, or heard angel voices singing (Bradbury). This also shows that the children enjoy going into the nursery to dream very often. Hence, the story has an air of unreality about it as if it were simply a child s daydream of a world in which children have the power and competence given to adults and adults have the helplessness of children (Bernardo). The nursery depicts a dreamlike quality and it gives the children the freedom to live in a world they would imagine. Imagery helps move the plot further along in the story. The ... Nursing requires the critical skill of accurate medication administration. The use of electronic medication administration has brought about many changes in the healthcare field. The article, What Determines Successful Implementation of Inpatient Information Technology Systems (Spetz et al 2012), was reviewed to address the above question. Computerized patients records and bar code medication systems continue to gain favor in healthcare. This idea spread across the nation in all VA sites (Spetz et al., 2012, p. 157), providing a safer environment for patient care. The use of bar code scanning utilizes the perfection of computers into medication administration process. Training to use (BCMA) indicated from the article can be cumbersome and staff can be apprehensive about the change. The time needed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Insenstivity Of Humanness In The Stranger By Albert Camus In society, behaving in a way that distances oneself from others is viewed as unacceptable: be it mentally or physically. In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the main character, Meursault, does just that. Throughout the novel, Meursault creates a problem for himself by emphasizing his individual existence rather than acknowledging others. The text suggests that the solution to the presented problem for Meursault is to recognize the subjectivity of others around him: such as his mother and friends. Meursault primarily shows his insensitivity toward others at his mother s funeral. At the funeral, Meursault does not cry or show any signs of mourning the death of his mother. He is very passive, and he even disregards the feelings of others present. The text states, The woman kept on crying. It surprised me, because I didn t know who she was. I wished I didn t have to listen to her anymore (10). This quote demonstrates Meursault s passivity about the feelings of others. He puts off the feelings of the woman due to the fact that he has never seen her and he wants her to essentially shut up. This insensitivity towards others and his own mother s death is eventually used against him when he is being tried for murder. The fact that Meursault did not cry during the funeral and that he admittedly smoked in front of his mother s casket while keeping vigil leads the prosecutor to question Meursault s place in society. As Meursault sits in the courtroom, in his mind he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Fight Or Flight Theory There are three different theories that are used when talking about how we react to stress through the physiological aspect or the psychological aspect. The first is part of the physiological aspect of stress called the Cannon Fight or Flight theory which was proposed in 1914. Fight or Flight response is a physiological stress response that evolved to help organisms to survive immediate danger. The theory states that when an organism, human being or animal, faces imminent danger (acute stressor) the body arouses quickly and is ready to act via two different systems. They are the sympathetic nervous system and the endocrine system. The sympathetic nervous system stimulates the adrenal medulla which is part of the endocrine system and is the region that produces the hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline. These hormones increase heart rate, blood flow, and glucose levels to prepare the body for an emergency. This response from the body suggests that the body knows how to protect itself and reach homeostasis. These two systems work together to either fight against the danger or flight away from the danger. Lord, King and Pfister in 1976 studied the Fight or Flight response in animals through a very unethical study. They administered chemicals on male hooded Wistar rats which inhibited the neurotransmitters from functioning normally. This made it very difficult for the rats to escape an electric shock. The results of the study suggest that the Flight or Fight response ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Leadership Style And Personal Strengths Essay Using Leadership Style and Personal Strengths to Succeed in a Doctoral Program Leadership is an important outcome of the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program (Zaccagnini White, 2014). Measurement tools are available that identify leadership style (Clark, 2010) and personal talents, called Signature Themes (Gallup, Inc., 2010). When leadership style and personal strengths are identified, they can be maximized to achieve success (Clark, 2010; Gallup, Inc., 2010). This paper provides both a framework about the importance of leadership in the DNP curriculum and several examples of how I will use my leadership style and Signature Themes to succeed in the DNP program. Leadership in DNP Program Curricula Prior to the development of the DNP degree, several practice focused doctoral programs existed in the United States; however, they did not have uniform curricular standards (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2004). An AACN task force (2004) studied the programs and recommended they be consolidated into one practice doctorate, called the DNP. The AACN task force found that leadership preparation was a common curricular thread in each practice doctoral program (AACN, 2004). In 2006, the AACN published The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice to establish guidelines for DNP curriculum development. The emphasis on leadership ... Shamanism and the Indigenous Peoples of Siberia Essays Shamanism and the Indigenous Peoples of Siberia Shamanism plays a role within most tribal communities of the indigenous peoples of Siberia. Within the community the shaman has many roles; one of his[1][1] main roles is that of a healer. The function of the shaman is closely related to the spirit world (Eliade 71). A shaman uses ecstatic trance to communicate with spirits. Spirits are integral to a shaman s ability to heal within his community. Shamanic activity is generally a public function (Grim 11 12). The gods decided to give mankind a shaman to combat disease and death, and they sent the eagle. These peoples include the Yakut of Turkhansk, Yenisei Ostyak, the Teleut, and the Orochon. Therefore according to this legend, the shaman s initial purpose was to exterminate the evil spirits of sickness and death that plagued the people; in other words, one of the shaman s first purposes was to heal (Eliade 69 71). As a healer, the shaman puts energy into the community. The shaman dramatizes and makes visible the incomprehensible mystery of all existence. . . . The shaman s ritual assures the flow of such vital energy into the community . . . [with the idea that] no man can succeed in life alone, and he cannot get the help he needs from men (Vilmos Dioszegi qtd. in Grim 13). An individual needs this assistance from the higher powers of the sacred and the profane in the spirit world; this assistance can only be achieved with the guidance of the shaman. Very often, in our everyday life, we tend to make certain generalizations about things and people around us. This is because we are constantly exposed to heaps of information, and in order to cope with the complexity of the world around us, we need to generalize and categorize.[1] Sometimes we do this on purpose, with some intention. However, very often we do this subconsciously, unaware of what we are doing. Many people generalize on others according to their clothes, profession, origin, way of speaking, and many other, outer markers. This sort of thinking could be very dangerous, and it can lead us to creating stereotypes. Stereotype is a term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To prove this to be true, some of my colleagues and me had some people from our environment interviewed on this topic. It is interesting that most of them had similar answers, and almost everyone said the English were reserved, snobbish, and even evil. Americans were fat and stupid, self centered. Although none of them would admit to be stereotyping, they all somehow knew this was true. Many of them, when asked if they would ever live in these countries responded negativelly, because the people were bad. Thus they had some prejudices formed against these people, and did not want to do anything to help them understand and appreciate the other culture. Discrimination When the stereotypes we have formed last for too long in our minds, they can grow and develop into something more serious than prejudice. This is when we start acting and treating other people in a different, often bad and inhumane way.[7] This is another possible danger of using stereotypes, which is called discrimination. There are many different types of discrimination, based on appearance, age, nationality, sex, etc. One of the most common forms of discrimination is based on a well known stereotype found in many movies, magazines, and even in cartoons. The first that come to my mind are Oracle, MySQL (structured query language) and SQL Server, but let s take it one step further you have to know the pros and cons for each program. By educating yourself on the differences between the programs you can know that you are getting exactly what you need from the software. Even though they all do create databases, different companies have special needs and the program that is chosen may not do what it is needed without research. Some users might say that the cost plays a big part of the decision making process, but you do not always just want to know how much they cost because you want to know how they differ from each other. However, not many people know that there are different types of sugar, and one kind of food can have multiple kinds of sugar. Our bodies actually process the types of sugar differently, and with my science project, I will measure the concentration of two sugars; glucose, and sucrose, in different foods and how sucrose is converted into glucose with an enzyme called invertase, just like it would in our bodies. This will help figure out how the amount of glucose we digest fluctuates with the enzyme converting sucrose into glucose. Sweet tasty foods are one of the hearts great desires. Emily Dickinson s great poem, Much Madness is Divinest, expresses the true rebellious persona that Dickinson was from within and the sense of frustration she had at being a very intelligent woman living during a time where men were the much dominant. The poet uses this poem to reflect the anger she felt (although she was said to be very reserved and quiet spoken) towards the society she lived in. When it came to putting down her feelings on paper, Dickinson did not hold back. In her work Dickinson utilizes the concept of slant rhyme, a wide ranged use of diction, and tone setting to give us her thoughts in concern to the society that she much resented. Dickinson employs slant rhyme to emphasize the true madness in society. Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye; much sense the starkest madness. The use of ... Using words as Assent and Demur draw a comparison in between society and those who are seen as mad . For Dickinson, the individuals who demur are set aside as mad and society takes charge in restraining them. For all the others who assent and follow into what society expects from them they receive society s acceptance and the label of being sane. What people didn t realize was that the madness that they so much feared, if fully embraced, could be a magnificent quality. It could allow a person to see things that many others denied the existence of. Dickinson with her diverse and creative use of words suggests that society was comprised of commonness which was the actual true madness. The act of living one s life in conformity of the expectations of others, and never trying to achieve one s own desires, is the deepest form of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This unit existed until May 2003 when the anti corruption and economic crimes Act (ACECA), established the Kenya Anti corruption commission (KACC). The ACECA replaced the prevention of corruption Act, 1956. ACECA is the key statute in the fight against corruption and is complimented by the public office ethics Act. Past reforms on public expenditure management have not worked well as the executive arm of the government has consistently failed to act on various recommendations of the watchdog institutions on the mismanagement of public funds. Similarly, the stated war against corruption, which is rampant in the public expenditure management, is yet to be won mainly due to legal technicalities encountered in trying to establish an effective and independent anti corruption authority. There is therefore need for a thorough examination of the fiscal systems with a view to formulating pragmatic remedial measures (Baumol, 2003). Research Problem Statement The problem of this study is to explore the effects of corruption on the economic growth in Kenya. Corruption cases reported to KACC increased by 16 % from 3637 in 2,008 to 4473 in 2009 (economic survey 2010). Corruption affects both the nation and the individual. At the national level, corruption has led to poor economic performance. This has resulted in: increased taxation burdens on Kenyans; unplanned, misdirected expenditure on projects ... • 33. Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls By Katha Pollitt And Silko... In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as well as how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from their gender. Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of thinking, how they view their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime. In both Katha Pollitt and Silko s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and women and how these differences result from society s expectations by using metaphors and life examples to explain their message to the reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this message. In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a boy growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between genders in early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in. Parents and feminist alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. They raise their kids wanting them to be successful at what they are expected to be good at based on their gender and the trend that has been set before them. In an excerpt from Pollitt s essay, she references a metaphor of the lives of boys and girls through a doll and a truck, as well as Mars and Venus when she says, A girl with a doll and a boy with a truck explain why men are from Mars and women are from Venus, why wives do housework and ... • 34. Historical Precedents For The Rise Of Rock N Roll Covers versions are credited to be one of the most important precedents for the rise of rock n roll. This commercial and musical phenomenon is the use of a previously recorded song that is either remade or reinterpreted by another group or artist. There is an argument that cover versions are employed by bands and artists in order to cash in on the success that the original version provided the original artist. However, as in all debates, there is a side that argues that cover versions reinterpret or reimage the original song and change the experience and the meaning of the song based on how the artist or group reinterprets or reimages it. In the following singles, California Dreamin , I Will Always Love You, and She s Like the Wind there are examples of the latter argument of artists reinterpreting or reimaging the original singles in their covers. Starting in California, where dreamin is a way to contemplate the meaning of one s life. At least that is the Mamas and Papas original version of California Dreamin. The Mamas and Papas were a group situated in Los Angles and the Southern California pop scene and what made them emerge out among other pop or folk groups was the mixture of male and female voices. California Dreamin, recorded by The Mamas and Papas in 1965, is credited to be an anthem of those heady times of the 1960s. Although the single never reached the number one spot on the charts, the single remained on the charts for 17 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
