History of the U.S. Marine Corps Noncommissioned Officer...
History Of the U.S. Marine Corps Noncommissioned Officer 1958 Present Noncommissioned
Officers are the backbone of the Marine Corps. Each leader is vastly different from the other.
Some Marines enjoy being a corporal only because of the increase in rank and pay. A few
become the tactless leaders junior Marines try to avoid. Fortunately, many others mature into
Marines who strive to become the leader that other Marines wish to emulate. They know what it
means to be a good leader. Those Marines have the traits of a leader; they get to know their
Marines; and they adhere to a sound leadership style. This paper will discuss the story of Dakota L.
Meyer, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions as a Corporal of Marines during... Show

Columbus, Ga. A fifth man, Army Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth W. Westbrook, 41, of Shiprock, N.M.,
later died from his wounds. The modern noncommissioned officer is the embodiment of the
Corps history and tradition by its core values. The core values are honor, courage and
commitment. Dakota Meyer showed each one of the core values. He also showed a majority if
not all of the 14 leadership traits, not only as an active duty marine, but also as a civilian, when he
shared his spotlight to remember the men that were not able to make it back. Marine
noncommissioned officers should be held to the highest standards, as they are the ones who will be
teaching new marines how to properly perform in their M.O.S. and they will be teaching new
marines how to conduct themselves as marines, whether its while serving in combat, or in garrison.

Essay about Warrior Marks
Warrior Marks nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Female circumcision is a traditional ritual that is
mostly practiced in Africa on young girls with ages that vary from birth to pre pubescent. It is
reported to have its origins (with varying degrees of reliability) in ancient Egypt. Female
circumcision was also discovered being practiced in western India and eastern Asia until it was
outlawed around the turn of the 20th century (common era). The procedure is varied through three
different types of circumcision: Infibulation, clitoridectomy and Sunna. Clitoridectomy and Sunna
are minor version of the circumcision with Infibulation being the most drastic. These practices
cause serious health hazards in some women, which become greater in adult... Show more content

She is welcomed back into the community where she will receive her birth rites that would have
been denied to her without the circumcision. The custom has been deeply rooted in the cultural
patterns of many countries and has been performed since remotest time in both the interior regions
and in the few coastal towns. This cultural ritual is one of the very few practices that are not
determined by an exclusive class system. The procedure is most commonly the girls first of many
rites of passage into adulthood. Without this ceremony, she may not be allowed to proceed further
in any context of being an adult. To make any comments, judgments, or suggestion, we must first
attain a complete understanding of the procedures and place an honest and sincere effort in
understanding the cultural basis for the incident. An intelligent analysis cannot be made without
these things. A discussion towards eradicating the practice is being launched purely on the
misunderstanding and shock factor that outsiders received when they learn of the cultural ritual.
However heinous we take the practice to be, we will never understand or realize the serious
implication of not having the procedure done. What is Female Circumcision? nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;

John Williams s Soundtrack for Harry Potter
Adventure, mystery, and magic all go hand in hand when it comes to the Harry Potter series
written by J.K. Rowling. The books were adapted into films starting in 2001. The first film,
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone, was directed by Chris Columbus. The story of Harry
Potter is magical as is however; the movie needed a little extra magic. This extra magic needed to
be added through music. Director Chris Columbus chose John Williams to compose the music for
a promotional reel (John Williams). After Columbus heard the song for the promotional reel he
knew they had to have Williams compose the entire movie (John Williams). Williams created an
entire score for the movie and called it The Harry PotterSuite. The Harry Potter Suite has... Show

In order to portray this cornucopia Williams created what he called a small wizard orchestra
(The Harry Potter Suite). This wizard orchestra contained instruments such as: flutes, recorders,
violins, tambourines, triangles, xylophone, bells, harps, and cellos (). All of these instruments
created a brilliant tune. In Diagon Alley, the music is light, whimsical, and quick which mimics
the atmosphere of Diagon Alley. The music turns back to a curious, mysterious, majestic song
when Harry and Hagrid enter Gringotts bank because there are mysterious creatures in Gringotts
called Goblins. When Harry sees all of the money that his parents left him in Gringotts the music
sounds like it sparkles just like the gold coins sparkle in the film. The song changes again when
Hagrid retrieves a peculiar item from vault 713 in the bank. The music turns mysterious and
secretive. The music in the scene about Diagon Alley perfectly mimics the events and the
atmosphere of the scene and helps tells the story. There is a sport in the magical world of Harry
Potter called Quidditch. Harry ends up playing of the Quidditch team as a seeker, which is a
player who finds a tiny, gold ball that flies through the air and the seeker must catch it in order to
win the match. The Quidditch match in the film is an exhilarating part of the film. The entire
school is at the match to watch the games. The crowd is excited which excites the audience
watching.

The Prison System Is Not Functioning Well
It has long been apparent that the UK s current prison system is not functioning well. Although
the HM Prison Service outline their purpose as we keep those sentenced to prison in custody,
helping them lead law abiding and useful lives, both while they are in prison and after they are
released (Gov.uk, 2016), currently nearly half of all prisoners go on to re offend within a year,
which costs society ВЈ15 billion a year (Ministry of Justice, 2016). In addition, last summer, the
Chief Inspector of Prisons warned that jails in England and Waleswere in their worst state for a
decade (HM Chief Inspector of Prisons for England and Wales, 2015) with sharp rises in inmate
violence, increasing drug use, staff shortages and squalid conditions. Therefore there is no doubt
that the prisonsystem is in urgent need of reform.
Last month, Elizabeth Truss outlined planned reforms to the prison system in a government
proposal, Prison Security and Reform she labelled the blueprint for the biggest overhaul of our
prisons in a generation . She outlined plans for a governor led approach, in which prison
governors will have the power to opt out of national contracts, and make their own resource
allocation decisions. Six reform prisons with these features are already being trialled around the
country, but it is too early to judge their impact. (Ministry of Justice, 2016). Autonomy is expected
to empower staff, improve standards and lead to a reduction in reoffending. The idea came from

The School District of Abington Township, Pennsylvania v. Schempp was a decision that did not
forbid the reading of the Bible in a public school what was illegal was the required readings of
the Bible as a religious exercise. Many religious leaders and other people similar to those have
said that the government have taken God out of schools! but in reality they didn t they just have
forbidden religious exercise that break the First and Fourteenth Amendment. The government
has a neutral ground that they do not intend to be contrary towards religion or to aid in
establishing worldly or secularism in the schools. The government did not prohibit the Bible
reading as an independent or individual act by teachers or students. There is no illegal action
for students to be disallowed to bring a Bible to school and read it silently during their spare
time. Also a teacher should have the same freedom. Prayer and the reading of the Bible are both
very personnel acts of worship. Reading the Bible can be taken in private and public places
because it is a private act which is most significant to a person. The religious intention of the Bible
reading is a form of communication between God and a person on earth. When the Bible reading
becomes an empty ritual, it decreases the influence or effectiveness of the communication. The

In the book Animal Farm the last sentence is, The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and
from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which
(Orwell, p.141). This quote is saying that the pigs are not human, but their greed is just like a
human.
In the book animal farm the pigs end up acting like humans at the end, which was one of the
initial rules that humans are bad. They are taking their power into granted and acting like a
human. This is an analogy because Orwell is comparing the pigs to a man. This quote is the last
sentence in the book and it is said by the narrator. It fits the plot because it wraps up the whole

Shane Koyczan s poem To this Day truly shows how prevalent bullying is in our day. In his poem
he tells the story of how he got his offensive nickname Pork Chop. Additionally, he tells us that
many kids are bullied today, just as he was. He says:
I m not the only kid who grew up this way, surrounded by people who used to say that rhyme
about sticks and stones. As if broken bones hurt more than the names we got called and we got
called them all. So we grew up believing no one would ever fall in love with us, that we d be

Essay on Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Louise Gluck s The School Children may provide some shock for readers as it twists and turns
through a school day marked by eerie abnormalities. Gluck successfully uses visual imagery to
convey a deeper meaning to a fourteen line poem about children, teachers and parents. These three
groups come to life through the descriptive poem that allows readers to form their own conclusions.
Though Gluck s meaning is never clearly stated, her use of tone and imagery create an extremely
visual work with three dynamic sets of characters.
Gluck continuously presents the schoolchildren as simple, orderly creatures. She portrays them as
heading to school with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The teachers are described in only one other line in the remainder of the poem. In line ten, near the
work s conclusion, Gluck writes, And the teachers shall instruct them in silence (10). This line
obviously leaves itself open to multiple interpretations. Can readers conclude that the teachers are
instructing the schoolchildren how to be silent? Surely it is believable that the faculty created by
Gluck would be teaching a set of students neatly arranged as if they were stuffed dolls to continue
to be silent. Others could view the description as implying that it is the teachers themselves who are
silent in addition to being motionless throughout the poem. It would not be challenging to view the
irony in a cast of teachers who are silent and possibly unable to instruct.
Gluck s final set of

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Ford s Assassination
On September 8, 1974, President Gerald Ford delivered a speech that stunned the nation. Thirty
days after former President Richard Nixon s resignation from office due to the infamous
Watergate scandal, President Ford chose to pardon him of any wrongdoing. This decision was
extremely unpopular with the general public. For the most part, the public believed that Nixon
needed to receive some form of punishment for his actions. President Ford knew this and
delivered his speech in an attempt to explain his unpopular decision and quell the response.
However, President Ford failed in his goal. While President Ford established his credibility and
effectively appealed to the listener s emotions, he failed to logically support his reasoning,
relying too much an emotional appeal. President Ford establishes his credibility by voicing his
good intent and stating his powers as president. In his speech, President Ford repeatedly states
that the decision was hard for him to make, saying, in this office . . . the difficult decisions always
come to this desk . He also makes it clear that he had sought such guidance and searched my own...

Ford says that Nixon would be cruelly and excessively penalized in preserving the presumption of
his innocence . . . instead of enjoying equal treatment with any other citizen . In addition, President
Ford claims that his concern is the immediate future of this great country and that his decision will
proclaim domestic tranquility . All in all, President Ford effectively builds up emotional support for

Jim Costello s Dynamics Of Desire
Jim Costello was born in Rochester, New York, and when he was a young boy his passion for art
showed (Jim Costello). Costello studied at the Ecole St. Luc art school during high school, and
then continued his art career in college. The following years of teaching, Costello moved his
family to northwest Virginia, and started to paint the landscapes and the different scenery around
his house. In Costello art work you can tell that he is a modern painter because he uses different
shapes and bright colors to bring the viewers eyes directly to his paintings. The title of his show
called Dynamics of Desire: The Evocative Works of Jim Costello make it seem as if his painting
will have some type of sexual content (Jim Costello). Although his painting displays naked
women, he is trying to capture the spirt and energy that animates the Shenandoah Valley. This
explains why in many of his painting there is a naked woman and a landscape of the valley
because he is trying to display mother nature in his work. He does not finish his paintings in one
setting, he does them over a period of years because his art work is in a very large scale. The
painting, Blanton, was finished in 1997 and it was a landscape of mountains and a lake. The colors
in this painting are so vibrant, that the blues, greens, and the browns go directly to the viewer s
eyes. This artist has so many elements of art in this piece, with the lines and the texture on the
water and the mountains. The lines are everywhere

Nut Island Effect
#1. Do the people at Nut Island represent a cohesive team? The team from Nut Island had the
potential to accomplish great things. They were a very cohesive team. Cohesiveness relates to the
degree to which members are attracted to and motivated to remain part of that team. A cohesive
group member values his or her membership and strives to maintain a positive relationship within
the group. Every person working at Nut Island wanted to be there and would not let anything get
in the way of their team. When looking at only the cohesiveness of a team, Nut Island would be a
good example. They worked together and enjoyed what they did at the sewageplant. Employees

(b.)The employees at Nut Island formed a very cohesive group, but their cohesiveness
contributed to their problems. They worked together and were able to all conform to a set of
norms. This group though was following the wrong set of norms. A highly cohesive group
following a negative set of performance norms has the least amount of success. They are working
together but for the wrong cause. The Nut Island team began following the wrong set of norms
when they request for funds for maintenance on equipment was denied. They were told to get rid
of the dandelions. He was more worried about the outside appearance than the inner workings of the

Sex Education Is Not Be Taught
People argue that sex education is not being taught the way that it should be these days and
besides kids being told not to have sex, they are being told how to have sex without getting
diseases. Which in some cases is true, but you never know until you look deeper into how sex
education and how it is really being taught in schools around the United States today. After doing
research I found two examples of approaches to sex educationcurrently being used in the United
States today. The places that I found how sex education is being taught are North Carolina
Franklin County Public Schools and Texas Public School District. These two states alone teach
the concept of sex education in a very different way. Texas takes an approach at it that everyone
wishes every state would look at sex education, and North Carolina takes an approach that
everyone thinks all states take in teaching kids about sex. After reading these two article I will
take and compare them to some of the experiences that I have had with sex education, tell you
which one is more comprehensive, and also get a deeper look into what sex education is like in
Texas from one of my fellow classmates. In North Carolina at Franklin County public schools they
cut AIDS and STDs out of their health textbooks and put in their sexual education classes and teach
that to their 9th graders (Donovan Pg. 1). The state law in North Carolina is to teach abstinence

The School Of Education And Allied Professions
In 2011, the College of Education and Allied Professions welcomed the first fifteen member cohort
of Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellows (WWTF) to the University of Dayton. Dr. Tom Lasley
communicated the necessity for the WWTF program with one statement, Dayton Public Schools
are in crisis and the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellows will learn the skills necessary to facilitate a
change in direction. Superintendent of Dayton Public Schools (DPS), Lori Ward, endorsed the
WWTF program and provided Fellows opportunities to complete student teaching requirements in
select Dayton Public Schools. On the contrary, within the Department of Teacher Education
professors and support staff approved the concept of the WWTF program, but struggled with
implementation. As program director, Dr. Lasley utilized the symbolic and political frames to foster
support during the program s first year.
To garner support for program implementation, Dr. Lasley relied on relationships developed during
his tenure as former dean of the College of Education and Allied Professions. Bowman and Deal
(2013) describe reputation as a source of power. Reputation builds on expertise (Bowman Deal,
2013). Further, his reputation afforded access to key internal and external stakeholders. The Provost
supported University involvement with the Woodrow WilsonFoundation (WWF) and petitioned
the office of Graduate Education on behalf of the program for a book stipend for the WWTF.

The Navy s Environmental Problem
In today s society, environmental problems are a big problem that plague our world. These
detrimental changes are creating astonishing problems for every living organism. Global warming
is not a myth. Glaciers are rapidly melting, ecosystems are being destroyed, trees are being cut
down for profit, and the globe is warming up and changing our normal climate. Everyone is a
contributor to these changes, whether it is a big contribution or a small one. Big businesses and
governments all around the world are contributing to the increase in pollution. Factories release
chemical waste into our air, and oceans which over time causes holes in our ozone layer. This is
not a small easily reversible problem. Chemical air pollution causes problems to not only our
environment, but to all the species living on this earth. In recent news, the Navy has admitted to
having released chemicals that are known to injure infants brains. Both humans and wildlife are

Supreme Court Ruling Summary
What was the Supreme Court ruling?
The Supreme Court ruled announced their ruling on June 28, 1978 but there was not a majority
opinion. Four major justices, Rehnquist, Stewart, Burger, and Stevens, voted against the minority
admission program for all school because it violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The other four
justices, Marshall, Brennan, White, and Blackmun, voted that the affirmative action is acceptable
within certain areas. However, the plurality opinion was given by Justice Powell. This gave the
ruling a 5 4 in favor of Allan Bakke. Powell gave his opinion that the using racial quotas as the
deciding factor of one s admission was violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth
Amendment. However, affirmative action is permissible by Universities but only if used alongside
with other factors. This meant that Universities had to discontinue their quota system for minorities
and that UC Davis violated the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. Under these
circumstances Allan Bakke was allowed to attend UC Davis.
The main arguments
UC Davis appealed and filed a petition for writ of certiorari in December 1976 because Superior
Court of California ruled that UC Davis needed to shut down their minority program due to equal
rights for every race. In order for the Supreme Court to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Most Memorable Events
I live in a world where I determine greatness by the number of memories that remain with me as I
grow older. It s almost a sport, trying as much as possible to create all these memorable events.
Everything I did, I ensured it would be something that stood out to me if I had to recall it, and
eventually, I reached a point where every event in my mind was just a jumble of stand out
moments. This, however, never stopped me from adding on to the endless list I had created.
There is a fixed pattern; if you want to make something memorable, do something out of the
blue. I planned out every last detail in my mind and ran through the series of events over and
over till it sounded perfect to me. Executing it was the least of my worries because once you ve
got your mind set on something, it never fails to go the way you want it to. One of the more
memorable events was the proposal to my wife. I remember it clearly in my mind, how I got
down on one knee, how I waited while she took off the blindfold and the tears of joy that
followed after. That moment led to a cascade of events soon after, creating a novel in my head.

Napoleon s Rise to Power
Napoleon Bonaparte was born Napoleone di Buonaparte in Corsica, August 15, 1769. His
family consisted of his father, a lawyer and member of the Nobility, his mother, his sister and his
seven brothers. He was a small child, and often was teased by his classmates when he was
enrolled in military college at a very early age in 1777, and it is believed that this influenced the
determination he had to win later in life. Later, he went to Ecole Militaire from 1784 to 1785.
Also in 1785, his father died. Even so, he graduated with the rank of second lieutenant. At this
time, great things were expected of Napoleon. However, no one could have guessed that this 16
year old would go on to make history.

When they finally fought, Napoleon did win, but found the capital in flames. He ordered a retreat,
and while they withdrew, he lost more than 400,000 soldiers to the Russian winter and starvation.
Then, when the army was sufficiently weak, an alliance of Russia, Britain, Austria, and Prussia
ambushed them, easily seizing defeat.
Napoleon returned to France, but the Russian British alliance soon took Paris, and after realizing
that he could not recreate his army, he abdicated and went into exile. King Louis XVI s brother
was allowed to rule again as King Louis XVIII.
However, once King Louis XVIII came to power, many emigrates returned and demanded revenge
on revolutionaries. Napoleon took this chance to return to France as well, where discontented
soldiers welcomed him with open arms. In March 1815, he began to rebuild his army. It took him
one hundred days. However, the British allies acted quickly, and he was crushed in June at the
Battle of Waterloo.
The Battle of Waterloo was the infamous conflict that marked the official end of Napoleon s

Romeo and Juliet Movie comparison Essay
Movie Compare and Contrast
There are many similarities and differences between the sixties version of Romeo and Juliet and
the modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It is very easy to spot these differences considering the
time period each movie was set in. There are some things in the play that totally got cut from both
movies. There are also some things that they added to the movies that weren t in the play. Let us get
on to the similarities and differences.
First off, the biggest difference is the time periods of each movie. The older movie was set in Early
Renaissance times. The newer movie is set in the early ninety s. Another difference is the use of

Romeo got dizzy for a minute at the party and then he was fine. It had no relevance to the story

version Romeo dies without knowing Juliet was really alive. In the modern version Juliet wakes
up seconds after Romeo drinks the poison. If Juliet would have taken the sleeping potion a
minute earlier, the two lovers could have been together. My final difference is in the modern
version once Romeo goes back into the Verona walls the cops start to chase him. While being
chased Romeo makes a stop at the Apothecary who sells him the poison. In the old version they
didn t have an apothecary. Romeo just shows up with the poison. Those are my differences.
Now how about some similarities. My first similarity is in both versions how the people carried
around weapons. In the old one the people of Verona carried swords. In the modern version of
the play the people of Verona carried handguns. Two different weapons, but they were used in
the same fashion in both versions of the play. Another likeness is Paris didn t bite the dust in
any of the versions. He is only in a few scenes. He s not even in the last scene where he was
supposed to meet his maker. While on the subject of death, Lady Montague does not die in either
version. She is seen exiting the final scene in both versions. She doesn t even have a big role in the
story. My next similarity is the

Americans have to pay, the nation can distribute the money it takes in out to those who are retired,

By reading the arguments the main issue is determining whether or not Social Security should be
privatized or not. With roots of our nation lying in free will and the ability to form our own future,
privatizing Social Security sounds like a way to live up to that precedent. The question now is
what comes with privatizing Social Security? A few benefits seen can range from boosting money
coming into the economy, which will help the national debt, it will help the poor and the minorities,
and the ability to inherit accounts will be possible. With the long term privatization As stated by
President George W. Bush, Personal accounts, which could be passed along to the next generation,
would go a long way toward reducing that disparity. ( Privatizing Social Security ProCon.org. )
Basically what this means, is say someone is able to open up a private account and begin monthly
putting money into that account, and by the time they reach retirement age or even right before
retirement age they pass away, then the money that has been saved up is no longer required to
support them. With Social Security the money that would be supporting them is no longer needed
and will end up going to someone else or to benefit the government. With a private account you can
build up money that can be passed down through family with the necessary guidelines to effectively
make sure that the elders in the family are compensated for financially. If this went and became
something that the majority of the nation took apart of, then one could hopefully say that overtime
there would be less homeless people roaming the streets, and more would be secure through their
private family

Energy Of Renewable Energy Sources Essay
In recent years many endeavors have been devoted to reduce the pollutant energy generation by
increasing the utilization of clean energy sources. Actually, the power sector is responsible for
roughly a quarter of anthropogenic CO2 emissions [1]. Thus, the widespread introduction of
renewable energy sources is seen to be one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuelbased
power plants will still be needed. In any case, fully abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is
difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel resources are ultimately finite and the goal should be to shift to
renewable energysources gradually. Due to its effective role in clean energy generation, microgrid
structure is increasingly utilized in power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy Resources
(DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the
key players to this goal [3].
Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably
and reliably through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not
only alleviates undesirable impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also
provides secure energy services according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7]. EMS is in
charge of synchronization with the main grid, voltage and frequency control through power
balancing and preserving secure operational margins [8],[9],[10],[11],[12]. Microgrids usually

The Motor Control Theory And The Dynamical Systems Theory
Comparison of Theories
According to Beek, Peper, and Stegeman (1995), the motor control theories provide an explanation
on how the nervous system will solve the degrees of freedom problem and serve to direct
movement command. The following theories are the generalized motor program theory and the
dynamical systems theory. The GMP theory proposes that the movement plan is retrieved from
memory within the central nervous system and neural instructions are sent down to the effectors
via the efferent pathways. The dynamical systems approach on the other hand, does not propose a
hierarchical control, but suggests that movements emerge through self organization of the
interaction of the body and environment. It can be said that everybody s bodily movements
occur in the context of the everyday functioning of people while realizing specific task goals. As
a general, yet acquired rule, such movements involve the participation of multiple joints and
limbs. Moreover, when in action, these body parts are coordinated and are brought into proper
relation to one another as well as to the surrounding layout of surface. The coordination of these
body parts may look relatively simple, as in picking up an object, or relatively complicated, as in
juggling, performing an attacking forehand drive in table tennis or playing the drums. To the
psychomotor scientist or researcher, however, all coordination is complex in that he or she is
confronted with the challenge to explain

Many of us dream of becoming rich to live the life that we always wanted. However, being rich
doesn t mean that you are always financially free. Once you become rich, you always think that
your lifestyle should change and usually it becomes expensive. There are people who had
millions of money, but lost it all in just a short span of time. Just look at some of the lotto
winners who won millions of pesos and have spent it all in a snap. Since they have a lot of
money on hand, they bought big mansions, luxury cars and go to parties almost every night.
They spent every cent of their prize buying everything life has to offer them. Later on as time
passes by, their money is getting smaller and no longer enough to sustain their chosen lifestyle. So
to avoid the agony of going back to the rags once again, they resort to debts and all sort of loans
out there. This is not what financial freedom is all about.
Here are 8 reasons why you need to become financially free than just aim being rich:
1) To cover all your needs. This

Essay on Consciousness As Determined Th
Consciousness is understood in a variety of ways. In one belief, a person is conscious when awake,
but unconscious when sleeping or comatose. Yet people also do things requiring perception and
thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical
surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself
and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousnessis a psychological condition defined by
the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind
quot;.1
Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. For instance
the earlier views around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They held that consciousness was involved with every working mental state. In this view the mind
is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence
was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm
Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection.
Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons.
The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental
activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first
Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as
being useful and entirely possible.
the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for
objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and
therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable
data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled
against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense
exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an
illusory concept and that it is

Blood Treatment Of Blood Transfusion Essay
Plasma, red blood cells, antigens, and antibodies are just some of the components of blood that
have to be studied before matching a donor and recipient for a blood transfusion. Blood
transfusion is a complex and long process that has a unique matching market of its own. In order
to see if the blood is a safe match, technicians have to check for compatible bloodtypes (the most
preferable is type O), non matching antigens, and finally cross matching to see if the antibodies
will attack the donor s cells. All of this is done in a large market with blood from hundreds of
thousands of donors. Due to the large number of options and room for the match to be ineffective
or be rejected, there are numerous problems in this market. It is possible for there to be a mix up
with the blood, or unknown factors could arise where the donor and recipient end up being a bad
mix. There is an arduous, difficult process of making a match in this market, and this causes some
problems that I will propose a few solutions for. First, there are many terms involved with blood and
transfusions that should be understood before moving onto the substance of this essay. Some of the
more important terms are antigens, antibodies, ABO groups, and Rh. Antigens are proteins
/carbohydrates that are able to be recognized by our immune systems, then foreign antigens that the
immune system detects are attacked and destroyed by antibodies. Antibodies are present in
everyone. They are molecules in the immune system

Introduction to Information Technology
Introduction The environment of information technology is dynamic and fast changing which
explains the changes in current educational systems which could be going in the directional of
transformational than incremental. Some of researchers believe that it might be the end of an era
for university campuses since they have been known currently to be identifying a change within the
traditional paradigm of learning. Even though educationis adopting the information technology
faster as it is being considered to be of positive change than negative change, the changes towards
this information technology could be of detrimental to the education. Due to this introduction of
information technology in the education sector, there are many detrimental that can be realized
with this, for example, Joo (1998) argues that teachers could be removed from classrooms. This is
because lecturers are taken to be never anymore a major source of information towards students for
materials that they were using at one time can now be gotten freely to any individual and hence
devaluated.
Attendance in classes tends to reduce because students just meet with tutors in any case there is
rise of a problem and if there is a synchronous solution which is needed. Hutchison (1998) as well
considers face to face lecturing little more as compared to filter for the process of learning, even
though both students are capable of studying and learning the curriculum with textbooks which are
recommended.

Paul s Case Essay
Paul s Case
Paul was a self oriented boy, concerned with money, wealth, and glamour, raised in a Calvinist
household that supported these ideals. Through my research I have decided that Paul s eventual
fate was not any one person s fault. Paul was just as much to blame as his father and teachers for
Paul s suicide.
Paul was never content with his house on Cordelia Street and was always dreaming about movin
on up while he worked at Carnegie Hall and watched the actors and actresses move about in their
stately attire and live in the most luxurious of hotel suites. Because of this dream to get out of the
area in which he lived, Paul hardly ever got along with his teachers and his father. The thought of

Paul s only chance, it seemed was to steal the money he needed and live off of it for as long as he
could.
Paul stole more than $1000, enough to live for a month in New York City, at the time of the
story, and only if spent cautiously. But, no... Paul would have none of that. It would have been a
waste to have more money than he had ever seen in his life, and yet live just as he had
throughout his life. He wanted to live in style, the way the rich folks did. So, Paul spent the
money within a week on all the best clothes, the best food, the best hotel room, the best flowers,
and the best life. The money disappeared within a week and Paul was forced to leave it all behind
and return to the dreariness of middle class existence.
Paul s damaged psyche could not bear to return the living dead life that he hoped he had left
behind forever, so he removed the living part with the help of a very large, very loud locomotive.
Paul s father had abused him emotionally, and probably physically, throughout Paul s life. He did
so much to Paul s flagging self image that he had to boast to others to make himself feel big,
when he felt tiny inside. When he finally achieved that bigness that he always wanted, the
glamour of the good life, his father found him out and took that away from him, or rather, made
Paul give it up. This made Paul feel even smaller and made him feel that he would be better off
dead. So Paul decided to make his life better off and

Genome Wide Association Studies Essay
Genome wide association study has been very useful in the recent years. It has helped researchers to
detect genes that are not detected that easily. With the detection, it helps the researchers to prevent
and treat the particular disease. Breast cancer has been one of the most common cancer in the world
and the most common in women. Even though, breast cancer is detected easily with mammograms
or self examination there are times where it can be hard to detect. Genomewide association studies
help to identify the genes that are in risk for breast cancer. Every population has different lifestyle,

The Last Supper Research Paper
Research Essay
The Last Supper painted by Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most famous and complex works of
art in the world. A better understanding of this painting will enable people to understand Da Vinci s
mind, and give people an insight into the Renaissance period.
This painting was commissioned by the Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. Ludovico Sforza wanted
this particular scene painted in the dining hall of the Convent of Santa Maria Delle Grazie in
Milan, Italy. In 1495, Leonardo Da Vinci began work on The Last Supper and completed the
painting in 1498. When painting this mural, Da Vinci did not take the traditional approach. Instead

The first reason comes from the fact that Da Vinci created his own technique, and was able to
make use of bright vibrant colors in his work. Another reason this painting is impressive is
because of the level of emotion Da Vinci was able to convey on the faces of the Apostles. Other
depictions of The Last Supper fall short of Da Vinci s painting because they can not express the
intense emotion the way Da Vinci did. The Last Supper was not the first famous biblical scene ,
but it changed the biblical art scene because of the apostles specific expressions and the intimate
feeling that they create. (Mussio 3). This includes the facial expressions that the apostles wear and
body movements that they make. The final reason this painting is considered a masterpiece is
because of the one point perspective Da Vinci achieves. In this painting, every element of the
painting is centered around Jesus Christ. This incredible one point perspective was achieved by Da
Vinci when he hammered a nail into the wall, then tied a string to it to make marks that helped
guide his hands (Puchko 2). The revolutionary one point perspective, new technique Da Vinci uses,
and incredible portrayal of emotions makes this painting a marvel of the Renaissance

Francesco Borromini Research Paper
Francesco Borromini is the most quintessential Baroque architect of all time. Though he was born
in Canton Ticino in the Alps, he came to Rome early and remained for the rest of his life. He was

his amazing skill and expertise, and they still show his unrelenting pursuit of perfection. The church

Before they were decommissioned, the foundation and many of the lower walls were

drastically. He extended the transverse arms so that the eye would be led to the left and right

exact octagon. Borromini s chief contribution was his facade. By the time he resigned, the
facade reached cornice level and the dome was completed as far as the lanterns. When Carlo
Rainaldi returned he hollowed out the piers, providing space for altars with retables and space
for oratories. The church of San Carlo and the church of Sant Agnese have a few similarities, the
most obvious one being that both are Roman churches by Borromini. However, they also started

Narrative Elements Of Horror
Almost every genre of film to date has been designed and developed to make an audience feel
satisfied or sexed up and in love or delighted or inspired or rushed with adrenaline. Horror, on the
other hand, was the first genre that preyed on the audience s deepest fears and utilized them to
provide cinema with nightmare flair. And everybody loved it.
The idea of this essay is to address the nightmarish absurdity that horror is so well known for. I will
consider the development of the genre, as well as explore the stylistic, thematic and narrative
elements of the genre; including discourse on the visuals, the symbolisms and the subject matter in

The term body horror was first coined in 1986 in an issue of the film magazine Screen. The films of
this subgenre concentrate on the human body and the horror of estrangement from within. Defined,
body horror is:
Such destruction or generation of the human body can be as a result of anything from alien life
forces to genetic mutations, viruses, diseases etc. Much of this subgenre was to do with society s
body anxiety and body consciousness and also explores identity and humanity. (Class notes: Body
Horror) Though these films address such valid points, they also strive to create a swelling unease
in the viewer and an awkward discomfort the viewer s body. The intent is to provoke sickness,
revulsion, and abhorrence in the audience.
Eraserhead, without a doubt, succeeds in achieving all of the above. This film is such a significant,
sweeping example of the far reaching horror genre. Expressionism s influence on this genre is so
captivatingly portrayed in the film, to the extent that many of the shots, throughout the entire film,
look just like works of German Expressionist art.

Rena’s Concept of Nation Building Based on Chavez and Morales
Ernst Renan s concept of nation is about a proposal that urges people to come together in order to
have consciousness about the process of building a nation and to forget about the differences in
geography, language, race, and religion. He insists on telling that a nation is composed of people s
collaboration and agreements to stay together and be governed by mutual approval because they
shared a common past. Based on this concept, we can say that Hugo Chavez and Evo Moraleswere
trying to build a nation by using history to unify the nation and to challenge the notion of
geography and in the case of Morales the language and race.

Similar to Chavez, Evo Morales contributed to the concept of geography as part of making a nation
because Bolivia is divided into two races groups: European and Indigenous. It was difficult for
Evo to be able to unify Bolivia for being an Indigenous person. He can be seemed as one of the
men that Renan mentioned who are healthy in mind and warm of heart because he was creating
a kind of moral conscience based on the coca leaf which he defended to be a form of food supply
for the poor. As well, he said that the growing of coca was a job for the peasant community
(based on the film Cocalero). In addition, we can see that the contact with the people by playing
soccer games with the local miners demonstrate the moral consciousness that he wanted to
implement. The fact that Evo spoke demonstrated that the language as Renan said need to be
forget, even though, there was a great percent of people who spoke Quechua. He wanted to
reach everybody by speaking the primary language. Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales had similar
and different contributions about Rena s concept of nation building. Chavez supported the ideas
that geography was important to unify and to have progress in the nation. While, Morales was
challenging this characteristic because Bolivia is a perfect example of how difficult is to govern
when a nation is divided. Both Presidents were fighting for agrarian reform and this made the poor

Conflict and Social Order Theory
Social OrderAccording to the social order model, society is given a set of rules to regulate
people behaviors and prevent anomie or normlessness. Society serves the interests of all sharing,
a strong set of norms and values, though not being able to adhere to these cause people to feel
out of place. Most people accept this hierarchy as long as they see the system is fair. However, it
is not fair, and this in turn becomes visible when it comes to occupations. Young people do not
apply to specific jobs because they assume their qualifications are not well built enough to obtain
certain positions and therefore are exploited and oppressed in the workforce.
Conflict TheoryThe conflict models expresses that people are constantly competing and ... Show

Meryl Streep proved this by telling Anne Hathaway that reason she chose her sweater is because
society, in this case the world of fashion, claims that the fashion and colour of the sweater is the
in style. Meryl demonstrated that Anne chose a sweater without putting much thought into it,
but in fact here thoughts were already shaped for her by what society had previously claimed to
be the in style. Anne did not realize that the act of something as simple as choosing a sweater,
because she liked the look or colour, was determined by previous causes that are external from
her. This shows peoples actions are highly predictable and that human behaviors are the result of
social causes and not of free will. October 29, 2007How does a skeptical read of the article reveal
contradictions and ambiguities about what the survey(s) is/are about?Does MacLean s provide an
objective presentation of the findings of the survey? After reviewing the excerpt in Maclean s that
claimed to reveal the best and worst universities in Canada, using the two surveys the National
Survey of Student Engagement and the Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium, it is
reasonable to say that the results are unreliable. For one, the answers of the students are not facts
but opinions. A university should not be labeled good or bad according to people s thoughts and
judgments because these cannot be proven to be true or false. As

Familial Genetic Testing
Familial adenomatous polyposis detection and effects of early predictive genetic testing Familial
adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant disease caused by mutation in the
adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) suppressor gene on the long arm of chromosome 5 (Kennedy,
Potter, Moir, El Youssef, 2014). Patients diagnosed with FAP had more than a hundred
adenomatous polyps in their large intestine. FAP is dominantly inherited and is close to 100%
penetrant (Hegde, Ferber, Mao, Samowitz, Ganguly, 2014). Therefore, it is essential to have
knowledge of the disease in advance in order to have sufficient medical preparation and family
planning before the onset of the disease. Genetic screening blood test is used to diagnose familial
adenomatous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For familial adenomatous polyposis, predictive genetic testing is generally offered to child 10
years old or older who had a family history of familial adenomatous polyposis; however, some
people might opt to have the test at an even younger age. Caga anan et al. stated that children
with FAP can benefit from medical screening and preventive measures through predictive genetic
testing (2012). Early detection of an APC mutation would change medical management of
children. There had been reported cases where children develop polyps before the age of 10
(Jerkic et al., 2005). Crawford and Lucassen (2009) reported a case when a child was tested for a
familial APC mutation at the age of 9 months. In this case, the main motivation for testing at the
very young age was to enable better family planning. Depending on the carrier status in the first
child the couple would make reproductive choices about further children, motivated by the feeling
to have a duty to stop the predisposition from being transmitted to future generations. Kattentidt
Mouravieva et al. (2014) evaluated 13 children who were tested for FAP at the age younger than
10 years; 7 were mutation carriers and 6 were non carriers. Parents of these children were re
contacted and open ended semi structured interviewed. None of the contacted parents regretted

Each leader is vastly different from the other. Some Marines enjoy being a corporal only because of the increase in rank and pay. A few become the tactless leaders junior Marines try to avoid. Fortunately, many others mature into Marines who strive to become the leader that other Marines wish to emulate. They know what it means to be a good leader. Those Marines have the traits of a leader; they get to know their Marines; and they adhere to a sound leadership style. This paper will discuss the story of Dakota L. He also showed a majority if not all of the 14 leadership traits, not only as an active duty marine, but also as a civilian, when he shared his spotlight to remember the men that were not able to make it back. Although the HM Prison Service outline their purpose as we keep those sentenced to prison in custody, helping them lead law abiding and useful lives, both while they are in prison and after they are released (Gov.uk, 2016), currently nearly half of all prisoners go on to re offend within a year, which costs society ВЈ15 billion a year (Ministry of Justice, 2016). In addition, last summer, the Chief Inspector of Prisons warned that jails in England and Waleswere in their worst state for a decade (HM Chief Inspector of Prisons for England and Wales, 2015) with sharp rises in inmate violence, increasing drug use, staff shortages and squalid conditions. Therefore there is no doubt that the prisonsystem is in urgent need of reform. Last month, Elizabeth Truss outlined planned reforms to the prison system in a government proposal, Prison Security and Reform she labelled the blueprint for the biggest overhaul of our prisons in a generation . She outlined plans for a governor led approach, in which prison governors will have the power to opt out of national contracts, and make their own resource allocation decisions. A few benefits seen can range from boosting money coming into the economy, which will help the national debt, it will help the poor and the minorities, and the ability to inherit accounts will be possible. With the long term privatization As stated by President George W. Bush, Personal accounts, which could be passed along to the next generation, would go a long way toward reducing that disparity. Thus, the widespread introduction of renewable energy sources is seen to be one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuelbased power plants will still be needed. In any case, fully abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel resources are ultimately finite and the goal should be to shift to renewable energysources gradually. Due to its effective role in clean energy generation, microgrid structure is increasingly utilized in power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the key players to this goal [3]. Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably and reliably through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not only alleviates undesirable impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also provides secure energy services according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7]. EMS is in charge of synchronization with the main grid, voltage and frequency control through power balancing and preserving secure operational margins [8],[9],[10],[11],[12]. Microgrids usually experience power fluctuations due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Motor Control Theory And The Dynamical Systems Theory Comparison of Theories According to Beek, Peper, and Stegeman (1995), the motor control theories provide an explanation on how the nervous system will solve the degrees of freedom problem and serve to direct movement command. The following theories are the generalized motor program theory and the dynamical systems theory. The GMP theory proposes that the movement plan is retrieved from memory within the central nervous system and neural instructions are sent down to the effectors via the efferent pathways. The dynamical systems approach on the other hand, does not propose a hierarchical control, but suggests that movements emerge through self organization of the interaction of the body and environment. It can be said that everybody s bodily movements occur in the context of the everyday functioning of people while realizing specific task goals. As a general, yet acquired rule, such movements involve the participation of multiple joints and limbs. Moreover, when in action, these body parts are coordinated and are brought into proper relation to one another as well as to the surrounding layout of surface. The coordination of these body parts may look relatively simple, as in picking up an object, or relatively complicated, as in juggling, performing an attacking forehand drive in table tennis or playing the drums. To the psychomotor scientist or researcher, however, all coordination is complex in that he or she is confronted with the challenge to explain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, being rich doesn t mean that you are always financially free. Once you become rich, you always think that your lifestyle should change and usually it becomes expensive. There are people who had millions of money, but lost it all in just a short span of time. Just look at some of the lotto winners who won millions of pesos and have spent it all in a snap. Since they have a lot of money on hand, they bought big mansions, luxury cars and go to parties almost every night. They spent every cent of their prize buying everything life has to offer them. Later on as time passes by, their money is getting smaller and no longer enough to sustain their chosen lifestyle. So to avoid the agony of going back to the rags once again, they resort to debts and all sort of loans out there. This is not what financial freedom is all about. • 24. Essay on Consciousness As Determined Th Consciousness is understood in a variety of ways. In one belief, a person is conscious when awake, but unconscious when sleeping or comatose. Yet people also do things requiring perception and thought unconsciously even when they are awake. A person can be conscious of their physical surroundings, pain and even a wish or fantasy. In short a creatureis conscious if it is aware of itself and that it is a physical and emotional being. Consciousnessis a psychological condition defined by the English philosopher John Locke as quot;the perception of what passes in a man s own mind quot;.1 Consciousness is defined and perceived differently in many psychological view points. In this view the mind is transparent to itself that is, it can perceive it s own activity. For three centuries self transparence was the defining feature of the mind. That conception was sprung through the theories of Wilhelm Wundt and Edward Titchener who were advocates off a science of introspection. Early in the 20th century the transparency doctrine came to a setback for three different reasons. The first reason was Sigmund Freud s compelling evidence that some very important mental activity is not only subconscious but firmly resists conscious access through repression. At first Freud s idea of unconscious was treated as self contradictory, but it has since won acceptance as being useful and entirely possible. the second difficulty for the transparency doctrine was that it made the mind impossible for objective science. What is known introspectively to a single person would be utterly private and therefore can not be viewed scientifically. Scientific method demands objectivity and reportable data. The behaviorists John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner and the philosopher Gilbert Ryle rebelled against the idea of an inner sense and denied the very existence of consciousness in the strong sense exhibited by Locke, Descartes and the introspective psychologists.3 Ryle insisted that mind is an illusory concept and that it is ... • 25. Blood Treatment Of Blood Transfusion Essay Plasma, red blood cells, antigens, and antibodies are just some of the components of blood that have to be studied before matching a donor and recipient for a blood transfusion. Blood transfusion is a complex and long process that has a unique matching market of its own. In order to see if the blood is a safe match, technicians have to check for compatible bloodtypes (the most preferable is type O), non matching antigens, and finally cross matching to see if the antibodies will attack the donor s cells. All of this is done in a large market with blood from hundreds of thousands of donors. Due to the large number of options and room for the match to be ineffective or be rejected, there are numerous problems in this market. It is possible for there to be a mix up with the blood, or unknown factors could arise where the donor and recipient end up being a bad mix. There is an arduous, difficult process of making a match in this market, and this causes some problems that I will propose a few solutions for. First, there are many terms involved with blood and transfusions that should be understood before moving onto the substance of this essay. Some of the more important terms are antigens, antibodies, ABO groups, and Rh. Antigens are proteins /carbohydrates that are able to be recognized by our immune systems, then foreign antigens that the immune system detects are attacked and destroyed by antibodies. Some of researchers believe that it might be the end of an era for university campuses since they have been known currently to be identifying a change within the traditional paradigm of learning. Even though educationis adopting the information technology faster as it is being considered to be of positive change than negative change, the changes towards this information technology could be of detrimental to the education. Due to this introduction of information technology in the education sector, there are many detrimental that can be realized with this, for example, Joo (1998) argues that teachers could be removed from classrooms. This is because lecturers are taken to be never anymore a major source of information towards students for materials that they were using at one time can now be gotten freely to any individual and hence devaluated. It would have been a waste to have more money than he had ever seen in his life, and yet live just as he had throughout his life. He wanted to live in style, the way the rich folks did. So, Paul spent the money within a week on all the best clothes, the best food, the best hotel room, the best flowers, and the best life. The first reason comes from the fact that Da Vinci created his own technique, and was able to make use of bright vibrant colors in his work. Another reason this painting is impressive is because of the level of emotion Da Vinci was able to convey on the faces of the Apostles. Other depictions of The Last Supper fall short of Da Vinci s painting because they can not express the intense emotion the way Da Vinci did. The Last Supper was not the first famous biblical scene , but it changed the biblical art scene because of the apostles specific expressions and the intimate feeling that they create. (Mussio 3). This includes the facial expressions that the apostles wear and body movements that they make. The final reason this painting is considered a masterpiece is because of the one point perspective Da Vinci achieves. In this painting, every element of the painting is centered around Jesus Christ. This incredible one point perspective was achieved by Da Vinci when he hammered a nail into the wall, then tied a string to it to make marks that helped guide his hands (Puchko 2). • 41. Conflict and Social Order Theory Social OrderAccording to the social order model, society is given a set of rules to regulate people behaviors and prevent anomie or normlessness. Society serves the interests of all sharing, a strong set of norms and values, though not being able to adhere to these cause people to feel out of place. Most people accept this hierarchy as long as they see the system is fair. However, it is not fair, and this in turn becomes visible when it comes to occupations. Young people do not apply to specific jobs because they assume their qualifications are not well built enough to obtain certain positions and therefore are exploited and oppressed in the workforce. Conflict TheoryThe conflict models expresses that people are constantly competing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meryl Streep proved this by telling Anne Hathaway that reason she chose her sweater is because society, in this case the world of fashion, claims that the fashion and colour of the sweater is the in style. Meryl demonstrated that Anne chose a sweater without putting much thought into it, but in fact here thoughts were already shaped for her by what society had previously claimed to be the in style. Anne did not realize that the act of something as simple as choosing a sweater, because she liked the look or colour, was determined by previous causes that are external from her. This shows peoples actions are highly predictable and that human behaviors are the result of social causes and not of free will. October 29, 2007How does a skeptical read of the article reveal contradictions and ambiguities about what the survey(s) is/are about?Does MacLean s provide an objective presentation of the findings of the survey? After reviewing the excerpt in Maclean s that claimed to reveal the best and worst universities in Canada, using the two surveys the National Survey of Student Engagement and the Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium, it is reasonable to say that the results are unreliable. For one, the answers of the students are not facts but opinions. A university should not be labeled good or bad according to people s thoughts and judgments because these cannot be proven to be true or false. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Familial Genetic Testing Familial adenomatous polyposis detection and effects of early predictive genetic testing Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant disease caused by mutation in the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) suppressor gene on the long arm of chromosome 5 (Kennedy, Potter, Moir, El Youssef, 2014). Patients diagnosed with FAP had more than a hundred adenomatous polyps in their large intestine. FAP is dominantly inherited and is close to 100% penetrant (Hegde, Ferber, Mao, Samowitz, Ganguly, 2014). Therefore, it is essential to have knowledge of the disease in advance in order to have sufficient medical preparation and family planning before the onset of the disease. Genetic screening blood test is used to diagnose familial adenomatous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For familial adenomatous polyposis, predictive genetic testing is generally offered to child 10 years old or older who had a family history of familial adenomatous polyposis; however, some people might opt to have the test at an even younger age. Caga anan et al. stated that children with FAP can benefit from medical screening and preventive measures through predictive genetic testing (2012). Early detection of an APC mutation would change medical management of children. There had been reported cases where children develop polyps before the age of 10 (Jerkic et al., 2005). Crawford and Lucassen (2009) reported a case when a child was tested for a familial APC mutation at the age of 9 months. In this case, the main motivation for testing at the very young age was to enable better family planning. Depending on the carrier status in the first child the couple would make reproductive choices about further children, motivated by the feeling to have a duty to stop the predisposition from being transmitted to future generations. Kattentidt Mouravieva et al. (2014) evaluated 13 children who were tested for FAP at the age younger than 10 years; 7 were mutation carriers and 6 were non carriers. Parents of these children were re contacted and open ended semi structured interviewed. None of the contacted parents regretted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
