Social Policy For Social Change Essay
In this 2000 word analysis I will explain the social policy selected in mahi Tuatahi, konae 2, Te
Tautika (social justice: social change). I will use Pohatu s, 2010 Te Ara Tohu and my learning from
assignment one to provide an analysis of the social policy our group selected. The analysis will
discuss the implications of my chosen social policy for social work practice and give an understanding
of tautika to assist in my analysis.
Donna, Renee and myself teamed up, having an interest in women s refuge and the domestic violence
act, we displayed an awareness of the subject but lacked knowledge of the policy. Through group
discussion and many hours of rangahau, the search for the women s refuge policy and the domestic
violence policy came to an end. There was a realization that the domestic violence policy did not exist.
New research, veered us away from women s refuge and into a new direction. Policies were
everywhere we looked. After broadening our search from domestic violence to family violence, we
struck the jackpot! Group Collaboration ended with our final decision making. We would tear apart,
this overarching policy from top to bottom. We wanted/needed to know everything. Our knowing was
a must, the dread of presenting to a women s refuge advocate and failing was not an option. We had
plenty of reading and researching to do over the next three weeks.
The social policy we chose is the New Zealand Police family violence policy (FVP)1996. This policy

My First Grade Classroom At Tatnuck Magnet Elementary School
I spent five hours observing a classroom but it felt like spending time in a new world. I observed a
first grade classroom at Tatnuck Magnet Elementary School in Worcester, Massachusetts. This was my
first opportunity to watch and comprehend a classroom environment with a teacher s mindset. It was
an eye opening experience, I was beginning to see the classroom in components: teaching methods,
lesson plans, philosophies, and common core requirements. Listening for how to give directions rather
than follow them is just one example of my changed focus while in the classroom. Due to my
schedule, I observed the first grade class on three separate days during the morning to afternoon part
of the school day. There were roughly fifteen students, a diverse group which included various
ethnicities and personalities. I feel that I was lucky in being assigned this class because it was
extremely dynamic and I got to witness many activities and strategies in a couple hours. Throughout
this observation report I will most likely quote phrases the teacher said as I found them to be key tools
when dealing with a situation. For the purpose of maintaining confidentiality in this report, I will
change the teacher s name to Ms. Mallard and also create names for any students mentioned hereafter.
Firstly, the actual classroom setting was filled with materials and vibrantly colored. One wall was
made up of windows with shelving space all along the lower half. The windows let in wonderful

Chaos in Jurassic Park
Chaos in Jurassic Park
Chaos theory proves that unpredictability is built into our daily lives. (Crichton 313). Ian Malcolm s
words resolve the book, Jurassic Park, in a very absolute way. Throughout the book, Malcolm, spoke
about chaos theory and his self proclaimed Malcolm Effect to explain his reasoning in his predictions.
Ian Malcolm had predicted the demise of Jurassic Park even before its opening, as well as its multiple
problems and difficulties. Malcolm s theory is evidenced countless times throughout the story of
Jurassic Park; dinosaurs are breeding, dinosaurs are escaping, and systems fail.
They re breeding. (Crichton 164). Ian Malcolm had predicted that the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park were,
in fact, breeding. This was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The point occurred when Nedry shut down power to certain areas of the park. The dinosaurs realized
that their once electrified containments were no longer an impenetrable barrier, but merely cables that
could be torn down and trampled. Once the dinosaurs were able to escape, pandemonium stepped in.
Animals that were too dangerous to let roam freely, such as the velociraptors, or simply not to mingle
with one another, the tyrannosaurus rex with the hadrosaurs, were doing exactly what they were not
supposed to do. Not only did they harm one another, but they also harmed the visitors and workers of
Jurassic Park. Towards the end of the book, after the power was restored, the interaction of the animals
with one another took on a more positive role. Grant had stated, The animals are mingling with each
other. Populations reaching equilibriums true Jurassic equilibrium. (Crichton 385). At this point,
Jurassic Park truly became Jurassic Park, but sadly, not one that could ever be opened to the world.
Flaws in the system will now become severe. (Crichton 269) Ian Malcolm had predicted that the
systems of Jurassic Park would fail from the very beginning. Problems with them were arising at all
times. When Malcolm inquired if the system was working well and was absent of problems, Arnold

A Survey of Arguments Concerning Mountain Top Removal Mining
A Survey of Arguments Concerning Mountain Top Removal Mining There is an ongoing battle over
the everlasting debate of mountain top removal mining. With every object at the center of a
controversy there are bound to be many arguments by all sides. Most arguments are biased and others
lack efficient sources or credibility to obtain a reasonable conclusion. This paper will dissect all angles
of the meaningful arguments and help develop a conclusion on the aspects of mountain top removal

Parks and recreation areas have been developed at many former sites where mountain top removal
mining had been in service. A little more than half of all former sites have been transformed to
recreation areas. And in most of those cases the mining companies that control the property pay for
those areas (Gardner). Not all of the areas have been transferred to recreational areas. Other areas have
been converted to land fills, industrial plants, and, roads and bridges. It is estimated that the mountain
top removal mining companies have contributed over 50 billion dollars developing these projects and
cleaning the sites since 1980. In September 2010, Gregory H. Boyce, President and C.E.O. Of
Peabody Energy, released a plan to eliminate energy poverty and inequality by unlocking the power of
coal to advance energy security, generate economic stimulus and create environmental solutions.
(Sutton) As long as mountain top removal mining continues, owners vow to take the proper steps to
clean up and redevelop these projects these former mountain top removal mining sites for the local
residents. Over time, due process should give more insight to the controversy. Even though both sides
present great arguments, time should be well managed to define what measures should be taken to
deal with all aspects of mountain top removal mining. Most of the debate seems like common sense
on both sides. The economic impact is huge for the

Who Is Chaucer s Clerk Who Would You Be Without Education
Who would you be without an education. Chaucer presents The Oxford Clerk and the Miller in
medieval times showing the difference between educated and uneducated people.A clerk in medieval
times was in charge of keeping records and keeping up with people finances, clerks of the time were
not necessarily interesting due to the fact that s all they did. The clerk s role in society was mainly a
record keeper ,most clerks also had a fascination with learning. Interestingly chaucer s clerk of oxford

Comparing The Journey And The Laughing Heart
The poems The Journey by Mary Oliver and The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski had different
meanings to them. The Journey includes the author experiencing a life that was overwhelming for her
until she finally took control of her life. The laughing Heart includes the author expressing the fact
that you need to make more out of you re life. The poets used figurative language and tone to develop
their themes. The tone of the poem The Laughing Heart is direct because of the way the author made
statements. Bukowski wants to make it known that [your is your life.../... don t let it be clubbed into

Americanah Writing Style
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of the National Bestseller Americanah has a very descriptive,
personal writing style. The writing style is very unique, even though it isn t written in first person you
feel very close to the main character as if they re the one who s telling the story. The writer uses
imagery to make you feel as if you are in the setting that is being described. The tone of the writing is
honest, sensitive and innocent. She tells her thoughts and struggles of being an African in america and
what it means to be black for the first time. Throughout the whole book the author manages to keep an

Cubama Inaugural Speech Analysis
It is, now time for us to leave the past behind , which was one of the many things President Obama,
said in Havana, Cuba. The speech I picked was the Remarks by President Obama to the people of
Cuba , which was given out this March, at the Gran Teatro de la Habana in Havana, Cuba. President
Obama main reason was to talk to the people of Cuba, and to forget about the past and look to the
future. His main audience he was talking to was the Cuban people, but nationally some of Americans
and more importantly Cuban Americans may have mixed views about President Obama decision to go
to Cuba.

Examination Of Paul s Thesis
In Romans, the Apostle Paul creates a powerful proclamation that salvation and forgiveness of sin is
through faith in Jesus Christ. In a series of questions and historical facts, he builds a case for his
declaration. Examination of Paul s statements provides substantiation of justification by faith
supported by the apostle James teaching.
Paul exposes his thesis by declaring a righteousness from God separate from the law (Rom. 3:21
[NIV]). God s acceptance is available apart from the old legal obedience, foretold by the Law and
Prophets, to all people, through faith and belief in Jesus Christ. From this proposal, he would argue
that history and logic prove Christ as the savior of mankind.
Beginning the argument, Paul establishes his basic

How Did Langston Hughes Influence African American Literature
American literature is a distinct reflection of its time, the Harlem Renaissance period was significant
for its progressive ideas on civil rights. This period was one that expressed the struggles and
oppression that African Americans faced throughout the 1920 s. The Harlem Renaissance brought
forth the everyday struggles, yet highlighted the beauty of a culture cultivated through oppression.
Harlem in New York City became the beacon of African American culture that spread socially aware
music, art, and literature. Harlem became the destination to which approximately 300,000 African
Americans migrated to, while fleeing the South s economic and social strife. Harlem bloomed with
jazz music and fashion making its nightlife the envy of white entrepreneurs. This period produced a
series of activist writers whose work was a stepping stone to civil equality, such as W.E.B. De Bois,
James Weldon Johnson, and the most influential Langston Hughes. Seen as the most influential
activist writer to come out of the Harlem Renaissance, Hughes was the first to incorporate all aspects
of African American culture never shying away from issues even his own culture criticized him for.
He often criticized through his literary work, black middle class Americans who imitated Caucasian
customs and lifestyle. Over the course of his life Langston Hughes created many influential pieces of
literature, however the early work in the start of his career is what brought him the recognition

Factors Affecting The Human Capacity
Introduction:
The experiment involves test subjects with different heights blowing into same elasticity balloons in
one breath to discover if there are any correlations between human s vital capacity and height. This
experiment is categorized as biology as vital capacity is due to lungs and lungs are organs in a human
body. Vital capacity is the amount of air that can be forcibly expelled from the lungs after breathing in
as deeply as possible. The vital capacity is about 4,800 mL (4.8L) for an average human, which is the
total amount of air that can be expired after fully inhaling. The vital capacity is= approximately 80
percent of total lung capacity. = Tidal volume + inspiratory reserve volume + expiratory reserve
volume The total lung capacity (TLC) is the volume of air contained in the lungs after maximal
inspiration plus residual volume and for an average male is around 6000ml (6L). To remain a fair test,
many factors could affect one s vital capacity. Pregnancy for woman would decreases her vital
capacity as during pregnancy the diaphragm is compressed by the uterus, which decreases total lung
capacity. Pulmonary diseases such as asthma, Bronchitis, Common Cold, Lung cancer and other
diseases can also affect vital capacity. Asthma restricts the airway allowing less air to pass through to
their lungs which unable their lungs to stretch as much. Previous researches has shown woodwind and
digeridoo players have larger lung capacity due to their experience and

To Kill A Mockingbird Main Idea
The main idea of the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is about how Scout is going to learn
about evil forces in her life like racism and inequality. Scout is a 6 year old girl, who is an extremely
smart for her age and is quite curious, has a brother named Jem, who is in the fifth grade, her father,
Atticus, who is a lawyer, and her mother, who died when she was two years old, so she doesn t have
her in her life. While living in the town of Maycomb, she is learning about the inequality towards
women and all the racism that is in this town too. This main idea is shown several times in the first
chapter, when it gives us an example of how the town s people are racist. According to the book, The
sheriff hadn t the heart to put him in jail among the Negroes, so Boo was locked in the courthouse
basement.(Lee 11). Even though Boo did something mentally unstable, he didn t receive the same
punishment by the reason of being white, while if a person with a different colored skin did that they
would receive jail time. In chapter four, Jem, Scout s brother, said, I swear, Scout, sometimes you act
so much like a girl it s mortifyin (Lee 38). At first, you believe that this is rude, but then if you

Americans faced during these depressing times. By putting this in she is showing us how the people
here think, they believe that whites shouldn t receive as worse of a punishment as African Americans
and being a woman is an insult. Even the children are raised with these ideas of inequality, it doesn t
seem wrong to the kids, for it is just part of life and being a woman is worse than being a man. Harper
Lee is showing us something that we may never honestly thought of, but it is absolutely a major part

Rappaccini s Daughter Discussion Questions
I think these questions can best be answered through Hawthorne s Rappaccini s Daughter. Before I
answer those questions by using that particular story, I do want to say a couple of things about The
Minister s Black Veil. I know there s supposed to be some sadness and a great message to this story,
but I can t help it it made me laugh a lot. The gossiping, the speculation, the way that a stupid piece of
material could totally change who someone was to everyone even though nothing about him really
changed all of that made me laugh. One of the funniest things, and maybe it s not supposed to be
funny but was to me, was when Mr. Hooper s sermon style or plea to his parishioners, was one of mild
persuasive influences. That description really made me laugh, and so did the part about the corpse
shuddering from seeing Mr. Hooper s face behind that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hooper was funny to me. The story just didn t affect me in the way that maybe it affects some people,
and it s hard for me to answer these questions through that story, because the humor in it kept me from
determining whether it was cryptic or straightforward. I guess I didn t find that story to be tragic, but
Rappaccini s Daughter is quite the opposite for me. While I thought it was straightforward and not
cryptic, I did find Rappaccini s Daughter to be completely depressing. I believe the meaning is very
clear at the end. To me, it was saying that selfish intentions of wanting more often lead to the
destruction of the really truly important things in life of the simple and beautiful things. Rappaccini
was so obsessed with his experiments and his own genius that he didn t seem to mind risking his own
simple yet beautiful daughter. During her entire life, he did this! Eventually, it hit him what he had
done to his own daughter. He realized he was the reason she lived a life of loneliness and seclusion.
Sadly, he realized too late

Popular Support In Julius Caesar Essay
Popular support and the distribution of power are two intertwining concepts that are prominent in
Nicolo Machiavelli s 16th century treatise, The Prince, and Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, of
the same era. While Machiavelli s treatise served to provide a practical guide to a reigning prince and
Shakespeare s play served to entertain an Elizabethan audience, both composers examine different
perspectives of popular support and the distribution of power.
The Prince similarly suggests that popular support is essential in achieving power, but prioritises the
importance of gaining support from the citizens over the support from nobles. Machiavelli critically
analyses the advantages and disadvantageous concerning monarchy and popular support ... Show more

Caesar s power is distributed amongst characters including Antony, Brutus and Octavian, and as such,
his own individual power is weakened, giving Brutus and the conspirators the opportunity to rebel
against him. Brutus power is conveyed in Cassius speech in Act 1 Scene 2, where he utilises rhetorical
questions including, Why would that name [Caesar] be sounded more than yours? and sarcasm by
referring Caesar as Immortal , to undermine Caesar s authority as a ruler. However, while Brutus and
the conspirators successfully murder Caesar, Antony and Octavian emerge as the victors at the Battle
at Philippi, suggesting that ultimately Caesar s spirit and rule lives in the noblemen who support him.
The recurring supernatural imagery of Caesar s spirit in both Brutus tent prior to the battle in Act 4
Scene 3 and on the battlefield conveyed by Brutus in Act 5 Scene 5, suggests that Caesar s spirit not
only metaphorically perpetuates but also literally appears in front of Brutus. The fact that the play is
named after him despite his death early in the play and not after Brutus, further enhances the idea that
the distribution of power from the leader to his noblemen allows the leader s rule to continue beyond

David Boonin Argument Analysis
As it was presented earlier, David Boonin s interest based argument has three major elements: 1) A
modified future like ours account of Don Marquis, 2) Relationship between desires and right to life,
and 3) Organized cortical brain activity as a necessary condition for the onset of consciousness. It is
the first two elements which are of major concern here.
David Boonin modifies Marquis future like ours argument and converts it to a desire based account,
before developing his analytical distinction of desires that has been shown earlier. Once values and
desires are used interchangeably (which itself raises concerns), the idea that the foetus values its future
or comes to value its future can be restated as that which a foetus desires, ... Show more content on

First, it is not the property of the valuable future that is morally significant. It is the desire for a
valuable future which is morally important. Second, there is an implicit emphasis on the present. The
foetus in this new version desires in the present that its future be preserved. In the original version the
foetus will come to value its future. In fact, the focus on the present is perhaps one of the reasons
Boonin has to focus on desires. What drives Boonin to focus on the present is that the morally
significant property that would confer the status of personhood on the foetus must be actually present
in the foetus for it to qualify as a person. If it is a potential property, an essential property or even a
capacity for a potential property, then Boonin will not be able to argue against those who support the
foetus inviolability from the moment of conception. Boonin must show that the foetus is not inviolable
before they start to have present conscious desires. Since he is basing his argument on Marquis future
like ours argument, any modification of the original argument to the present conscious desires version
must be done in such a way that the same criteria applies to infants, suicidal teenagers, temporary
comatose adults as well as the foetus. In order for the argument to work on all these cases, Boonin
creates the analytical distinctions between the occurrent vs dispositional desires and actual vs ideal
desires, as presented earlier, to say that it is the property of only present ideal dispositional conscious
desires that is a morally significant property for personhood. Once the foetus meets the conditions
necessary of conscious desires, that is from the onset of advanced organised cortical brain activity, a
foetus can have present ideal dispositional conscious

Human Story In Life Of Pi
Have you ever been stranded in the middle of the ocean with a 450 pound adult bengal tiger? Well
according to Pi Patel he has and survived nearly 300 days in that predicament. In the book Life of Pi,
Yann Martel s character Piscine Molitor Pi Patel survives a shipwreck and ends up on a lifeboat with a
variety of animals one of which being a bengal tiger. The story starts out with Pi telling the author he
can make him believe in God with his story. Throughout the story Pi tells a great tale of his
experiences on the lifeboat with the tiger but the only thing is that s exactly what it is, a tale. The real
story comes at the end of the book when two Japanese men question Pi about the sinking of the
Tsimtsum and Pi tells a different story because the men did not believe the animal one. The second
story has humans instead of animals therefore making it the more reasonable story. So the human story
is real because it is the more feasible option, being alone for a very extended amount of time can cause
a person to lose their sanity, and some of the things that Pi mentioned were a little far fetched.
The human story is the all around most reasonable story obviously. There is no way that Pi could
survive nearly 300 days with such a big predator. Also being on a lifeboat with very limited resources
it is clear that a bengal tiger would take advantage of Pi being there and kill him. Like stated in the
book animals do not think about what they are doing, I don t think about it.

Divine Intervention By Elia Suleiman
Palestinian identity has lasted the test of time through exile, diaspora, and attempts at cultural white
washing. It is through these situations that Palestine has created a unique sense of identity, unlike
many nation states. The Palestinian identity has come to transcend borders, nationality, and mediums.
It is not only represented in politics and protest, but in personal expression and the arts. This paper
argues that both national identity and cultural productions of Palestine represent the diaspora through
noticeable adaptation based on location and support the idea that Palestinian identity isn t singularly
definable. The first piece of evidence that I will analyze is the movie Divine Intervention (2002),
directed by Elia Suleiman. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One particularly interesting perspective is his opinion on how the conflict has somewhat freed the
identity of Palestinians from a shared land, and that for some Palestinians that can escape the
occupation, there is a the creation of a transnational, transgressive life. (Suleiman, 2003, 73) Thus
exists multiple outcomes from one identity. He further supports this by commenting that Palestine
does not have borders, does not actually exist in the sense of geography, but it still has a sense of
space. The Palestinian people are this space, and the people are how we define what is, and what is not
Palestine. People are separated geographically, but defined by identity and community, and this creates
a unique sense of freedom outside of a defined nation state. (Suleiman, 2000, 96) This lets the
definition of this identity be more fluid. He says that in his work he purposefully moves away from a
centralized view of Palestinian identity and uses cinema to present the differences in viewpoint,
perception, and narration that exist within this conflict. Not only between Israelis and Palestinian s but
between all Palestinian s. (Suleiman, 2000, 97) He purposefully moves away from a singular form of
Palestinian identity and states My films are Palestinian because I am Palestinian. (Suleiman, 2000, 99)

Essay On Food In American Culture
Culture of food in Israel and Palestine
This quote illustrates national identity and ethnicity through food, Tell me what you eat, and I ll tell
you who you are Brillat Savarin in 1825. Food can showcase a lot about a nation and its people
because culture and food, creates unity in a nation. In the case of Israel the Zionist organization used
food as a tool to create a sense of identity and nationalism for the people of Israel by encouraging
consumption of Kosher and Israeli produced foods. Israel like the United States, is an immigrant
nation; so naturally many different foods and recipes are brought with the new immigrants from the
countries they came from Europe to Africa. It s great to see, how food is used to unite a nation as one.

When you look at Palestine and Israel regionally, you will get of course like all countries different
regional cuisine. The article Falafel: A National Icon , discusses start of falafel becoming a national
icon for Israel; for instance when the first Jewish immigrants moved to the Middle East, because they
wanted to adapt to the new land and become local, they began to pick up the Arab food like hummus
and falafel which is very prevalent in Israeli cuisine today. It is an interesting issue to look at when
nations argue over the origin of certain foods, like in the article, Hummus Wars , which takes about the
conflict over hummus between Lebanon and Israel, although the same argument does occur with
Palestine as well but to say that a certain dish belongs to one place over another is somewhat absurd;
that would be like Italy arguing with New York over pizza. As long as people travel around so will

The Experience Machine By Nozick
Have you ever wished you could have anything you wanted in life? I know I have. I ve always wanted
a world where everything would be to my liking and nothing would be to my dissatisfaction. Nozick
sets up a scenario where we can get a maximum amount of pleasure by plugging into an experience
machine that allows us to undergo anything we wanted while we are in a tank with electrodes attached
to our heads. One will be plugged in for two years at a time but while one is attached, the experiences
are going to seem like they are actually happening. He takes this machine to disprove the hedonism
view that says consciously experience pleasure is the most important thing to living a good life. In his
opinion he would not plug in because while one is in the machine, one cannot do certain things, be a
certain person or come in contact with reality. I had never really thought about the option of
experiencing anything I wanted versus living a normal life before, but after reading The Experience
Machine by Nozick, I would pick living in a normal life because even though experiencing anything I
wanted would cause as much pleasure as possible, it limits one to things that are important to human
life such as being able to physically perform or experience things and having an impact in society
The experience machine makes one feel like you are actually performing or experiencing the things
one is doing while plugged in but in reality, as Nozick described, you are floating in a tank with

Persuasive Essay About Becoming An Adult
Responsibility
Becoming an adult is a major responsibility for most people. One that can change your life sometimes
for the good, but can also make your life hard for the time being as well. For the past few months, I
had a recent change I turned 18 and got thrown to the wolfs. I had to start taking responsibility for
myself and paying my own bills. Things in my life changed and they changed quite fast.
Last December, I had gotten my license and bought my first car. Until graduation I would pay for half
of my car insurance. The month I turned 18 I already had a job set for me which I was very thankful
for. But while I was finishing up my last few months of high school it got very hard for me to balance
school and work and my internship for me to graduate. With me having to work almost 90 hours a
month, on top of having to get 120 hours of internship work done in at the hospital on top of all my
other school work it was very draining. My Grandma gave me until graduation to save money and she
made sure I knew that she was done paying my phone bill and my car insurance. Once I graduated
things started to get easier and started to get back in to the swing of my life again. For an 18 year old
$200 car instance bill is a big bill especially when your check isn t that much every month, plus a $60
phone bill, and gas and whatever things I need to get around the house.
This experience became my permanent white water because I know a few months ago I would
complain about the

At first glance, there isn t a lot of creativity to it because it si a confrontation conversation, wherein the

pranks that can go on and on.

In many restaurants you can find little boxes with forms, that you need to fill for a chance to win a

Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Rhetorical Analysis
The Civil War was a period of racial injustice and a time of great loss for the people of America.
During Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address, he creates a moral framework for peace and
reconciliation with the use of many rhetorical strategies. With a sincere but reflective tone, Abraham
Lincoln highlights the reality of the troubled nation and the solution to all of the problems, which is
unity. Lincoln repeats strong phrases to enhance the theme, references to a holy figure, and creates
simple, yet structured ideas to achieve his purpose of reuniting the broken nation. Lincoln speaks in a
simplistic manner in order to convey his message to the common man. Prior to the start of the civil
war, he made it clear that all dreaded [the

PLANNING This program plan contains one goal and four measurable objectives in order to facilitate
the planning phase. These goals and objectives may change throughout the program plan, as it is
tentative. Furthermore, the goal and each objective will be evaluated at the end of the implementation
period in order to ensure each was met. Goal: The goal of this program plan is to educate and assist
college students in accessing the mental health resources that are available to them on college
campuses. Objectives: 1. 100% of participants will have accessed the mental health resources
available through the Counseling Center at Averett University. 2. 100% of participants will have
received mental health resources, such as pamphlets and counselor/psychologist contacts in order to
ensure the students maintain a positive mental state. 3. 50% of students will have worked with the
Counseling Center for the first time. 4. 100% of students will receive a pre and post test to test their
knowledge of mental health resources and pre and post counseling survey to show how counseling
affected their mental health/school dynamic. In order to ensure that this program plan is a success,
there are many factors, such as funding, assistance, and support that must be arranged properly and in
advance. In order to have assistance in providing mental health outlets to those who need it,

An Evaluation Will Be Made Of Clause 35 Of Afrosa s...
An evaluation will be made of Clause 35 of Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars. Accordingly, an
explanation will be made of the legal rules which relate to exclusion clauses with reference to the
Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and Sale of Goods Act 1979.
Terms may be implied into a contract in a number of ways. Primarily terms may be implied by statute.
Legislation may be implemented to protect parties where there may be inequality in bargaining power,
such as dealing with companies standard form contracts. An example of such regulatory legislation is
the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (SGA 1979) particularly sections 12 15 which govern seller implied terms.
Afrosa is dealing with Foghorn Cars standard form contract.
Section 2(1) SGA 1979 outlines that Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars is governed by the act as it is
a contract by which the Foghorn Cars has agreed to transfer property, that is, vehicles for a price paid
by Afrosa. Sections 13 and 14 SGA 1979 imply terms which are particularly relevant. Section 13(1)
relates to sale by description and stipulates that the goods sold must correspond to the description in
the contract. There is no evidence in the facts to suggest that Foghorn Cars drew Afrosa s attention to
any defects in the goods. Therefore there should be no reason for the goods to be defective regardless
of the timeframe involved. Section 14(2) relates to the quality of the goods sold and stipulates that the
goods must be of satisfactory quality . Despite the

Why Satire Matters In The Princess Bride By William Goldman
Why satire matters in The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride by William Goldman is a satirical story full of irony, in which the author creates a
humorous and enjoyable read by having an abundance of character parodies. In the book The Princess
Bride, the author satirizes fairytales and the characters through their appearance and actions. In the
novel, the author portrays his characters as unfitting to the story. Goldman presents the story as a
fairytale but it is the very opposite, as he constantly ridicules his characters. As a result, Goldman
constructs a captivating read. Furthermore, Goldman is also obsessed with fairy tales and believes in
satirizing them. He often creates characters which illustrate a fairytale but in actuality they ... Show

Goldman s portrayals of the characters mock the analogy of traditional fairytale. Firstly, fairy tales
present a story where two characters fall in love and have a happy marriage after, however Goldman
portrays the main character very satirically. Goldman instead of following the traditional fairy tale
analogy of the main character living at the end, he instead decides to kill him not once but twice.
Shorty after Westkey dies in the zoo of death he is revived by the Miracle Max, Fezzik cried, You re
alive! , (Goldman 329) when Westley after being killed was brought back. While many may think of
this as fairy tale story with the perfect ending, though Goldman was not satisfied. So, after Westley
and Buttercup successfully escape, Westley and everybody again disappear this time with no clear
ending whether Westley or others survived or died. In this scenario Goldman satrically ridicules the
idea of a fairy tale and having a happy ending as he very much disagrees with happy endings . In the
evidence above it is very evident that Goldmans enjoys mocking fairy tales with the use of satire.
Secondly, in many fairy tales prince are usually associated with saving the princess from evil and have
good looks and are brave also smart. Prince Humperdinck who is shown as the prince of Florin is a
joke to fairytale philosophy, as the author models

Description Of The Population And The Sampling Techniques
Methodology
This chapter presents discussions on the research design, the description of the population and the
sampling techniques to be employed in the study. The latter part includes the specifics of the
instruments to be used, the research procedures and the statistical treatment of data.
Research Design The descriptive cross sectional design will be used in the study. In a cross sectional
design, the data will be collected from the participants at a single point in time. Data will be compared
and analyzed across the variables of interest in a relatively brief time period (Johnson, 2001).
This study is a quantitative research which aims to know the public speaking experiences of male and
female among high school students. The researcher will be using surveys in order to gather data.
Sample and Sampling Design
The researcher has a respondent of 250 in Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9, and Grade 10 Junior High
School students from Siena College Taytay, in Taytay, Rizal, enrolled for S.Y 2015 2016. I will have a
250 respondent which is fifty percent of the population in high school. The fifty percent of the
population is supposed to be enough to be able to generalize the results. The sum of 60 participants
will be in per year level Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 10 Junior High School students except Grade 9
due to the sum of their sections that they have there are 7 sections to the sum of 70 students from
Grade 9 each sections would have 10 students divided by 2

Hierarchy Of Maslow s Hierarchy
Development: Maslow s Hierarchy The human body is changing all the time and it happens differently
in everyone. Not everyone is going to mature or evolve at the same pace or in the same time. Some
people have things in their childhood that may stunt their development or delay it somewhat. The way
you are raise influences how you mature. Maslow s Hierarchy explains how we have 8 things that
everyone needs to get us to our potential. Without them all we will not reach that. Everyone is
different though, within each step not everyone needs the whole process to be comfortable with

the top. People may struggle with certain things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hierarchy is broken down into two different components but has eight steps. The first four needs
(bottom to top) are called your deficiency needs and the top needs are your growth needs. You need
your four base needs they are essential in your development. They are the things that one person
absolutely needs to be able to be comfortable not with just themselves but with everything around
them. These are the needs that are most likely to be jumped over and missed in the early stages of a
humans life. The top four are the ones that will take you above and beyond just living and surviving in
the world. These are the difference between living and thriving (McGuinness n.p.). At the very base of
the pyramid are your physiological needs. These are the things that not one human being can live
without. You absolutely need these to even survive. These are anywhere from food, air, shelter,
warmth, sleep, and something to drink. Without these a human being would cease to exist in our
world. These essential things are the first things anyone needs and that everyone looks for. If you do
not have these there is no way that you will be able to move to another step because you will forever

Should Renewable Energy Be A Better Choice For Poor...
Third World Going Green In the article, Sorry, Bill Gates, But You re Wrong on Renewable Energy

that cheap electricity should be distributed to poor countries to protect them from indoor air pollution
that comes from burning dung, or anything else to cook. Shah reiterates by saying, and backs up, that
investing into renewable energy sources are the better choice for poor countries. Not only for them
because of its reliability but cheaper for us, the audience, to invest in for them. Even though he has a
few good points why renewable energy is a better option, and his audience should believe him, he
does not deliver it in a professional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His other clear objective from this article is displaying Gates as an idiot for suggesting coal
consumption and siding with a scientist, Bjorn Lomborg, who is made clear to be a terrible person.
The blog by Bill Gates on Gatesnotes titled Two Videos that Illuminate Energy Poverty gives us,
obviously, two videos from Bjorn Lomborg only after a small disclaimer from Gates. In the post,
Gates argues that developed countries should discover ways to make green energy cheaper or make
nonrenewable energy cleaner. Individuals in developed countries are trying to set usage limits on third
world countries when it is completely hypocritical. Energy assists the country to elevate themselves
out of poverty and help save lives. Gates attached videos of Lomborg s to backup how big of a
difference energy has on poverty levels. Also, Gates specifically says, I certainly don t agree with
Bjorn on everything, but I always find him worth listening to. Shah attacks Gates for agreeing with
everything this crazy scientist says when Gates clearly states that he does not.
Being an article in Time, the majority of the audience is going to be older people. Time is a news
magazine, and news is often directed at older people because, generally, they want to be informed
about the world around them more than younger people. This article, in particular, is targeting an

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad vs. Things Fall Apart...
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe are two novellas
written to make a statement about the struggles of early societies. Both stories stir up moments of
hope, anger, disappointment, despair, and enlightenment in an attempt to inform the reader of the
injustices and societal differences during the 1800 s. Heart of Darkness tells the story from a European
Colonist perspective while Things Fall Apart illustrates the outlook of the African tribe member being
colonized. Throughout this piece I will investigate these unique texts in hopes of revealing the
symbolism behind the trying stories. I will compare and contrast the narratives and decipher the

Some clan members, however, do rebel and burn some of the preachers shelters. This results in a big
meeting, both European and African. At the gathering the tribe members are told to decease from any
future acts of destruction or rebellion. Expecting his fellow people to support him, Okonkwo kills their
leader with his machete. However, when the crowd allows the other Europeans to escape, Okonkwo
realizes that his clan is not willing to go to war. Soon after the murder, Okonkwo prideful character,
and inability to accept defeat, results in his suicide. Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart
exemplify two different perspectives of African Literature. In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad
shows the African Culture through the eyes of the white man or colonizing Europeans. In this story the
native Africans are depicted as vicious savages.
In response to Conrad s stereotypical depiction of Africans, Chinua Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart
through the point of view of the natives to show Africans, not as primitives, but as members of a
thriving society. Things Fall Apart follows Okonkwo s life as he strives for prestige in his community.
When European missionaries come to Umuofia, Okonkwo s clan, Okonkwo tries to protect the culture
that the missionaries would destroy in the name of civilizing the natives. However his rigid mentality
and violent behavior has the opposite of its intended effect, perpetuating the stereotype of the wild

The Effects Of Self-Regulation On School Readiness
Effects of Self Regulation on Preschoolers School Readiness
Self regulation is fundamental to children s development. It is children s ability to control and manage
their emotions and bodily functions, as well as maintain focus and attention (Gillespie Seibel, 2006). It
is an ability that appears as early as birth, such as when infants suck their thumb to self soothe or
shiver to keep warm. Self regulation is a skill that one continues to work on and is needed throughout
life. It is especially important in the early education years. Early childhood education sets the
foundation for school readiness and future academic success. School readiness can include academic
skills and non academic skills, such as self regulation. Self regulation domains, such as
emotion/behavioral regulation and executive function play a crucial role in preschoolers school
readiness. Emotion/behavioral regulation is defined as the ability to manage one s emotions and
behaviors, such as a child not crying when their toy gets taken away, as well as following instructions
(Bohlmann Downer, 2016; McClelland et al., 2007). Executive function is defined as the cognitive
processes involved in controlling emotions and behavior (McClelland et al., 2007). Although previous
literature has examined the effects emotion/behavioral regulation and executive function has on school
readiness, few studies bring both domains together, especially among preschoolers. Therefore, further
research is needed to

  • 2. Social Policy For Social Change Essay In this 2000 word analysis I will explain the social policy selected in mahi Tuatahi, konae 2, Te Tautika (social justice: social change). I will use Pohatu s, 2010 Te Ara Tohu and my learning from assignment one to provide an analysis of the social policy our group selected. The analysis will discuss the implications of my chosen social policy for social work practice and give an understanding of tautika to assist in my analysis. Donna, Renee and myself teamed up, having an interest in women s refuge and the domestic violence act, we displayed an awareness of the subject but lacked knowledge of the policy. Through group discussion and many hours of rangahau, the search for the women s refuge policy and the domestic violence policy came to an end. There was a realization that the domestic violence policy did not exist. New research, veered us away from women s refuge and into a new direction. Policies were everywhere we looked. After broadening our search from domestic violence to family violence, we struck the jackpot! Group Collaboration ended with our final decision making. We would tear apart, this overarching policy from top to bottom. We wanted/needed to know everything. Our knowing was a must, the dread of presenting to a women s refuge advocate and failing was not an option. We had plenty of reading and researching to do over the next three weeks. The social policy we chose is the New Zealand Police family violence policy (FVP)1996. This policy is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My First Grade Classroom At Tatnuck Magnet Elementary School I spent five hours observing a classroom but it felt like spending time in a new world. I observed a first grade classroom at Tatnuck Magnet Elementary School in Worcester, Massachusetts. This was my first opportunity to watch and comprehend a classroom environment with a teacher s mindset. It was an eye opening experience, I was beginning to see the classroom in components: teaching methods, lesson plans, philosophies, and common core requirements. Listening for how to give directions rather than follow them is just one example of my changed focus while in the classroom. Due to my schedule, I observed the first grade class on three separate days during the morning to afternoon part of the school day. There were roughly fifteen students, a diverse group which included various ethnicities and personalities. I feel that I was lucky in being assigned this class because it was extremely dynamic and I got to witness many activities and strategies in a couple hours. Throughout this observation report I will most likely quote phrases the teacher said as I found them to be key tools when dealing with a situation. For the purpose of maintaining confidentiality in this report, I will change the teacher s name to Ms. Mallard and also create names for any students mentioned hereafter. Firstly, the actual classroom setting was filled with materials and vibrantly colored. One wall was made up of windows with shelving space all along the lower half. The windows let in wonderful ... Ian Malcolm s words resolve the book, Jurassic Park, in a very absolute way. Throughout the book, Malcolm, spoke about chaos theory and his self proclaimed Malcolm Effect to explain his reasoning in his predictions. Ian Malcolm had predicted the demise of Jurassic Park even before its opening, as well as its multiple problems and difficulties. Malcolm s theory is evidenced countless times throughout the story of Jurassic Park; dinosaurs are breeding, dinosaurs are escaping, and systems fail. They re breeding. (Crichton 164). The point occurred when Nedry shut down power to certain areas of the park. The dinosaurs realized that their once electrified containments were no longer an impenetrable barrier, but merely cables that could be torn down and trampled. Once the dinosaurs were able to escape, pandemonium stepped in. Animals that were too dangerous to let roam freely, such as the velociraptors, or simply not to mingle with one another, the tyrannosaurus rex with the hadrosaurs, were doing exactly what they were not supposed to do. Not only did they harm one another, but they also harmed the visitors and workers of Jurassic Park. Towards the end of the book, after the power was restored, the interaction of the animals with one another took on a more positive role. Grant had stated, The animals are mingling with each other. Populations reaching equilibriums true Jurassic equilibrium. (Crichton 385). At this point, Jurassic Park truly became Jurassic Park, but sadly, not one that could ever be opened to the world. Flaws in the system will now become severe. (Crichton 269) Ian Malcolm had predicted that the systems of Jurassic Park would fail from the very beginning. Problems with them were arising at all times. When Malcolm inquired if the system was working well and was absent of problems, Arnold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A little more than half of all former sites have been transformed to recreation areas. And in most of those cases the mining companies that control the property pay for those areas (Gardner). Not all of the areas have been transferred to recreational areas. Other areas have been converted to land fills, industrial plants, and, roads and bridges. It is estimated that the mountain top removal mining companies have contributed over 50 billion dollars developing these projects and cleaning the sites since 1980. In September 2010, Gregory H. The speech I picked was the Remarks by President Obama to the people of Cuba , which was given out this March, at the Gran Teatro de la Habana in Havana, Cuba. President Obama main reason was to talk to the people of Cuba, and to forget about the past and look to the future. His main audience he was talking to was the Cuban people, but nationally some of Americans and more importantly Cuban Americans may have mixed views about President Obama decision to go to Cuba. • 10. Examination Of Paul s Thesis In Romans, the Apostle Paul creates a powerful proclamation that salvation and forgiveness of sin is through faith in Jesus Christ. In a series of questions and historical facts, he builds a case for his declaration. Examination of Paul s statements provides substantiation of justification by faith supported by the apostle James teaching. Paul exposes his thesis by declaring a righteousness from God separate from the law (Rom. 3:21 [NIV]). God s acceptance is available apart from the old legal obedience, foretold by the Law and Prophets, to all people, through faith and belief in Jesus Christ. From this proposal, he would argue that history and logic prove Christ as the savior of mankind. Beginning the argument, Paul establishes his basic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. How Did Langston Hughes Influence African American Literature American literature is a distinct reflection of its time, the Harlem Renaissance period was significant for its progressive ideas on civil rights. This period was one that expressed the struggles and oppression that African Americans faced throughout the 1920 s. The Harlem Renaissance brought forth the everyday struggles, yet highlighted the beauty of a culture cultivated through oppression. Harlem in New York City became the beacon of African American culture that spread socially aware music, art, and literature. Harlem became the destination to which approximately 300,000 African Americans migrated to, while fleeing the South s economic and social strife. Harlem bloomed with jazz music and fashion making its nightlife the envy of white entrepreneurs. This period produced a series of activist writers whose work was a stepping stone to civil equality, such as W.E.B. De Bois, James Weldon Johnson, and the most influential Langston Hughes. Seen as the most influential activist writer to come out of the Harlem Renaissance, Hughes was the first to incorporate all aspects of African American culture never shying away from issues even his own culture criticized him for. He often criticized through his literary work, black middle class Americans who imitated Caucasian customs and lifestyle. • 12. Factors Affecting The Human Capacity Introduction: The experiment involves test subjects with different heights blowing into same elasticity balloons in one breath to discover if there are any correlations between human s vital capacity and height. This experiment is categorized as biology as vital capacity is due to lungs and lungs are organs in a human body. Vital capacity is the amount of air that can be forcibly expelled from the lungs after breathing in as deeply as possible. The vital capacity is about 4,800 mL (4.8L) for an average human, which is the total amount of air that can be expired after fully inhaling. The vital capacity is= approximately 80 percent of total lung capacity. = Tidal volume + inspiratory reserve volume + expiratory reserve volume The total lung capacity (TLC) is the volume of air contained in the lungs after maximal inspiration plus residual volume and for an average male is around 6000ml (6L). To remain a fair test, many factors could affect one s vital capacity. Pregnancy for woman would decreases her vital capacity as during pregnancy the diaphragm is compressed by the uterus, which decreases total lung capacity. Pulmonary diseases such as asthma, Bronchitis, Common Cold, Lung cancer and other diseases can also affect vital capacity. Asthma restricts the airway allowing less air to pass through to their lungs which unable their lungs to stretch as much. While Machiavelli s treatise served to provide a practical guide to a reigning prince and Shakespeare s play served to entertain an Elizabethan audience, both composers examine different perspectives of popular support and the distribution of power. Caesar s power is distributed amongst characters including Antony, Brutus and Octavian, and as such, his own individual power is weakened, giving Brutus and the conspirators the opportunity to rebel against him. Brutus power is conveyed in Cassius speech in Act 1 Scene 2, where he utilises rhetorical questions including, Why would that name [Caesar] be sounded more than yours? and sarcasm by referring Caesar as Immortal , to undermine Caesar s authority as a ruler. However, while Brutus and the conspirators successfully murder Caesar, Antony and Octavian emerge as the victors at the Battle at Philippi, suggesting that ultimately Caesar s spirit and rule lives in the noblemen who support him. The recurring supernatural imagery of Caesar s spirit in both Brutus tent prior to the battle in Act 4 Scene 3 and on the battlefield conveyed by Brutus in Act 5 Scene 5, suggests that Caesar s spirit not only metaphorically perpetuates but also literally appears in front of Brutus. • 18. David Boonin Argument Analysis As it was presented earlier, David Boonin s interest based argument has three major elements: 1) A modified future like ours account of Don Marquis, 2) Relationship between desires and right to life, and 3) Organized cortical brain activity as a necessary condition for the onset of consciousness. It is the first two elements which are of major concern here. David Boonin modifies Marquis future like ours argument and converts it to a desire based account, before developing his analytical distinction of desires that has been shown earlier. Once values and desires are used interchangeably (which itself raises concerns), the idea that the foetus values its future or comes to value its future can be restated as that which a foetus desires, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, it is not the property of the valuable future that is morally significant. It is the desire for a valuable future which is morally important. Second, there is an implicit emphasis on the present. The foetus in this new version desires in the present that its future be preserved. In the original version the foetus will come to value its future. In fact, the focus on the present is perhaps one of the reasons Boonin has to focus on desires. What drives Boonin to focus on the present is that the morally significant property that would confer the status of personhood on the foetus must be actually present in the foetus for it to qualify as a person. If it is a potential property, an essential property or even a capacity for a potential property, then Boonin will not be able to argue against those who support the foetus inviolability from the moment of conception. Boonin must show that the foetus is not inviolable before they start to have present conscious desires. Since he is basing his argument on Marquis future like ours argument, any modification of the original argument to the present conscious desires version must be done in such a way that the same criteria applies to infants, suicidal teenagers, temporary comatose adults as well as the foetus. In order for the argument to work on all these cases, Boonin creates the analytical distinctions between the occurrent vs dispositional desires and actual vs ideal desires, as presented earlier, to say that it is the property of only present ideal dispositional conscious desires that is a morally significant property for personhood. Once the foetus meets the conditions necessary of conscious desires, that is from the onset of advanced organised cortical brain activity, a foetus can have present ideal dispositional conscious ... Well according to Pi Patel he has and survived nearly 300 days in that predicament. In the book Life of Pi, Yann Martel s character Piscine Molitor Pi Patel survives a shipwreck and ends up on a lifeboat with a variety of animals one of which being a bengal tiger. The story starts out with Pi telling the author he can make him believe in God with his story. Throughout the story Pi tells a great tale of his experiences on the lifeboat with the tiger but the only thing is that s exactly what it is, a tale. The real story comes at the end of the book when two Japanese men question Pi about the sinking of the Tsimtsum and Pi tells a different story because the men did not believe the animal one. The second story has humans instead of animals therefore making it the more reasonable story. So the human story is real because it is the more feasible option, being alone for a very extended amount of time can cause a person to lose their sanity, and some of the things that Pi mentioned were a little far fetched. The human story is the all around most reasonable story obviously. There is no way that Pi could survive nearly 300 days with such a big predator. Also being on a lifeboat with very limited resources it is clear that a bengal tiger would take advantage of Pi being there and kill him. Like stated in the book animals do not think about what they are doing, I don t think about it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Divine Intervention By Elia Suleiman Palestinian identity has lasted the test of time through exile, diaspora, and attempts at cultural white washing. It is through these situations that Palestine has created a unique sense of identity, unlike many nation states. The Palestinian identity has come to transcend borders, nationality, and mediums. It is not only represented in politics and protest, but in personal expression and the arts. This paper argues that both national identity and cultural productions of Palestine represent the diaspora through noticeable adaptation based on location and support the idea that Palestinian identity isn t singularly definable. One particularly interesting perspective is his opinion on how the conflict has somewhat freed the identity of Palestinians from a shared land, and that for some Palestinians that can escape the occupation, there is a the creation of a transnational, transgressive life. (Suleiman, 2003, 73) Thus exists multiple outcomes from one identity. He further supports this by commenting that Palestine does not have borders, does not actually exist in the sense of geography, but it still has a sense of space. The Palestinian people are this space, and the people are how we define what is, and what is not Palestine. People are separated geographically, but defined by identity and community, and this creates a unique sense of freedom outside of a defined nation state. (Suleiman, 2000, 96) This lets the definition of this identity be more fluid. He says that in his work he purposefully moves away from a centralized view of Palestinian identity and uses cinema to present the differences in viewpoint, perception, and narration that exist within this conflict. In the case of Israel the Zionist organization used food as a tool to create a sense of identity and nationalism for the people of Israel by encouraging consumption of Kosher and Israeli produced foods. Israel like the United States, is an immigrant nation; so naturally many different foods and recipes are brought with the new immigrants from the countries they came from Europe to Africa. Terms may be implied into a contract in a number of ways. Primarily terms may be implied by statute. Legislation may be implemented to protect parties where there may be inequality in bargaining power, such as dealing with companies standard form contracts. An example of such regulatory legislation is the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (SGA 1979) particularly sections 12 15 which govern seller implied terms. Not everyone is going to mature or evolve at the same pace or in the same time. Some people have things in their childhood that may stunt their development or delay it somewhat. The way you are raise influences how you mature. Maslow s Hierarchy explains how we have 8 things that everyone needs to get us to our potential. Without them all we will not reach that. Everyone is different though, within each step not everyone needs the whole process to be comfortable with moving on up on the pyramid of steps to the top. • 35. Should Renewable Energy Be A Better Choice For Poor... Third World Going Green In the article, Sorry, Bill Gates, But You re Wrong on Renewable Energy written by Jigar Shah and published by Time, we are given a blogging quote by Bill Gates. Gates says that cheap electricity should be distributed to poor countries to protect them from indoor air pollution that comes from burning dung, or anything else to cook. Shah reiterates by saying, and backs up, that investing into renewable energy sources are the better choice for poor countries. Not only for them because of its reliability but cheaper for us, the audience, to invest in for them. Even though he has a few good points why renewable energy is a better option, and his audience should believe him, he does not deliver it in a professional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His other clear objective from this article is displaying Gates as an idiot for suggesting coal consumption and siding with a scientist, Bjorn Lomborg, who is made clear to be a terrible person. The blog by Bill Gates on Gatesnotes titled Two Videos that Illuminate Energy Poverty gives us, obviously, two videos from Bjorn Lomborg only after a small disclaimer from Gates. In the post, Gates argues that developed countries should discover ways to make green energy cheaper or make nonrenewable energy cleaner. Individuals in developed countries are trying to set usage limits on third world countries when it is completely hypocritical. Energy assists the country to elevate themselves out of poverty and help save lives. Gates attached videos of Lomborg s to backup how big of a difference energy has on poverty levels. Also, Gates specifically says, I certainly don t agree with Bjorn on everything, but I always find him worth listening to. Shah attacks Gates for agreeing with everything this crazy scientist says when Gates clearly states that he does not. Being an article in Time, the majority of the audience is going to be older people. Time is a news magazine, and news is often directed at older people because, generally, they want to be informed about the world around them more than younger people. This article, in particular, is targeting an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad vs. Things Fall Apart... Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe are two novellas written to make a statement about the struggles of early societies. Both stories stir up moments of hope, anger, disappointment, despair, and enlightenment in an attempt to inform the reader of the injustices and societal differences during the 1800 s. Heart of Darkness tells the story from a European Colonist perspective while Things Fall Apart illustrates the outlook of the African tribe member being colonized. Throughout this piece I will investigate these unique texts in hopes of revealing the symbolism behind the trying stories. I will compare and contrast the narratives and decipher the outlooks so that the reader can learn to appreciate and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some clan members, however, do rebel and burn some of the preachers shelters. This results in a big meeting, both European and African. At the gathering the tribe members are told to decease from any future acts of destruction or rebellion. Expecting his fellow people to support him, Okonkwo kills their leader with his machete. However, when the crowd allows the other Europeans to escape, Okonkwo realizes that his clan is not willing to go to war. Soon after the murder, Okonkwo prideful character, and inability to accept defeat, results in his suicide. Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart exemplify two different perspectives of African Literature. In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad shows the African Culture through the eyes of the white man or colonizing Europeans. In this story the native Africans are depicted as vicious savages. In response to Conrad s stereotypical depiction of Africans, Chinua Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart through the point of view of the natives to show Africans, not as primitives, but as members of a thriving society. Things Fall Apart follows Okonkwo s life as he strives for prestige in his community. When European missionaries come to Umuofia, Okonkwo s clan, Okonkwo tries to protect the culture that the missionaries would destroy in the name of civilizing the natives. However his rigid mentality and violent behavior has the opposite of its intended effect, perpetuating the stereotype of the wild African in the eyes of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Effects Of Self-Regulation On School Readiness Effects of Self Regulation on Preschoolers School Readiness Self regulation is fundamental to children s development. It is children s ability to control and manage their emotions and bodily functions, as well as maintain focus and attention (Gillespie Seibel, 2006). It is an ability that appears as early as birth, such as when infants suck their thumb to self soothe or shiver to keep warm. Self regulation is a skill that one continues to work on and is needed throughout life. It is especially important in the early education years. Early childhood education sets the foundation for school readiness and future academic success. School readiness can include academic skills and non academic skills, such as self regulation. Self regulation domains, such as emotion/behavioral regulation and executive function play a crucial role in preschoolers school readiness. Emotion/behavioral regulation is defined as the ability to manage one s emotions and behaviors, such as a child not crying when their toy gets taken away, as well as following instructions (Bohlmann Downer, 2016; McClelland et al., 2007). Executive function is defined as the cognitive processes involved in controlling emotions and behavior (McClelland et al., 2007). Although previous literature has examined the effects emotion/behavioral regulation and executive function has on school readiness, few studies bring both domains together, especially among preschoolers. Therefore, further research is needed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
