• Weight loss > 7% of birth weight
• Decreased urine output

4. Exclusive breast feeding
• 0-6 months: Exclusive breastfeeding. This means no other food or
liquids including water.
• 6 months onwards: Introduction of complementary i.e. addition of
semisolid or solid foods. Breastfeeding should continue into second
year

5. • To promote exclusive BF  baby friendly hospital initiative was
started in 1992

6. Predominant breast feeding
• Main source of nutrition is breast milk
• But baby is receiving other fluids like water or water based drinks like
tea juice etc

7. Partial breast feeding
• Baby receives non human milk formula or ceral based foods in
addition to breast milk

• Secreted during 1st 3 days after delivery
• Contains Ab & WBCs
• Higher protein content
• Vitamin A D E & K

10. Preterm milk
• More calories fat protein sodium chloride iron Mg Zn Cu IgA
• Concentration of lactose calcium phosphorous are lower than term
milk
