The BrainGate device is a brain implant system developed in 2003 that allows users to control external devices with their thoughts. It consists of a sensor the size of a contact lens implanted on the brain's motor cortex that monitors neural activity and converts intentions into computer commands. While still being perfected, BrainGate offers the potential for users to control assistive technologies just by thinking and avoid using muscles. However, frequent adjustments are still needed and there are concerns about normalizing society through such invasive technologies.
