droughts, and hurricanes. Change in Earth s overall temperature is difficult to conceptualize
because its long term effects do not present urgency in most people s minds; consequentially, the
film discloses the lack of concern for environmental issues throughout government agencies and
most citizens. Even with the recent international industrial pledge to reduce carbon dioxide
emissions, the objectives are poorly defined and lack the intensity to reverse the damage.
Incorporating both the scientific and governmental explanation of climate change, the film
illustrates the tremendous positive impact civilian activists can accomplish. For example, the
activists are planning the first major climate change march and rallying local citizens behind a
common goal to create meaningful change. Following the movie the Eco Reps initiated a
discussion session regarding Elon s impact on the environment and specific ways students can alter

Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood
The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed.
But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a
cunning, and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main
character, Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a womans power to exercise their control
over men. As a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain
code of conduct and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows
her power over him, as well as her skill and intelligence.
In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her
standard to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box
seat. By purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this
represents her power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved
and deeply judged by the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her
perspective, Haywood furthers the division between men and women by showing the power that
Fantomina currently holds while also foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others
and learning different mannerisms, such as those of a prostitute.

Depression. On a day that could have been called Black Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial
average plummeted almost 500 points. Historically prominent investment giant Lehman

After reading the short yet well written short story, I truly agree the portrayal of the modern age
