Josef Mengele Research Paper
On March 16th, 1911, Josef Mengele, the eldest of three sons, was born to Karl and Walburga

refined, intelligent, and popular ( Josef Mengele, Angel of Death ). His family was considered to be
upper middle class as the Mengele s were the owners of a machine tools business. In 1935, Mengele
earned a PhD in physical anthropology from the University of Munich. From there, he continues on to

Julius Caesar Pride Quotes
John C. Maxwell once said Leaders who fail to prune their pride will meet demise. That s not a guess,
it s a guarantee. With pride, it s not a matter of if we will fall, but when. There are no exceptions. This
quote Maxwell says shows how influential pride is and how it can/will lead to someone s downfall.
Pride is a signal of destruction. This can be shown a lot throughout the play The Tragedy of Julius
Caesar by William Shakespeare. In the play, Julius Caesar shows his pride many times and this leads
to his demise. Examples include when he talks about threats, danger, and the northern star. Pride can
make people very stubborn, and when Calpurnia is trying to protect Caesar; he dismisses this.
Calpurnia has just told Caesar about a dream she has where she fears his death is near. Another time
he shows his pride is when he tells Calpurnia how these warnings of his death are nothing to be afraid
of. He says, The things that threatened me ne er looked but on my back. When they shall see the face
of Caesar, they are vanished (Shakespeare 26). This quote is saying how even though there are threats
Caesar knows about behind his back; he says that once they face him the threats will go away. Caesar
believes this and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says, But I am constant as the northern star, of whose true fix d and resting quality there is no
fellow in the firmament. The skies are painted with unnumbered sparks. They are all fire and every
one doth shine, but there s but one in all doth hold his place (Shakespeare 35). This quote shows how
Caesar compares himself to the northern star. Caesar believes he is stable, constant and has no equal.
Just like the Northern star. This shows how Caesar s pride affects his outlook and how pride can lead
to his demise. Soon after Caesar says this quote the conspirators, they see this as the time to kill
Caesar. Furthermore, Julius Caesar s

The Environment Of The Sea Ocean
Over 70 percent of the world is covered in water. Water plays a huge part in our world, whether the
water makes our plants grow that feed our animals and plants that we eat to the water that grows the
trees we use to build our infrastructure, or heat our homes with to providing a huge underwater world
known as the Ocean and water also is the main reason us, humans, are alive. We need water to live,
without water humans would not be able to survive. With this being said water runs our lives. Humans
which live on land also rely on life from the ocean for food. Humans must keep the water pollution
levels at normal levels or else the water will taint the animals they use for food. The animals are not
the only thing they have to worry about polluting in the Ocean. Other pollutants like CO2 and other
greenhouse gases make the ocean waters fluctuate. This fluctuation affects the Climate.
The ocean waters are responsible for heating the planet. Although the land masses of the world
(continents) also receive the same amount of sunlight, there is much more water than land, therefore
the water absorbs most of the suns light. How the basics of how this works is water evaporates into the
air rising upwards. While this evaporation is occurring the temperature rises as well as the humidity
forming rain and storms to develop. This is how hurricanes form in the tropics. The tropics are the
most variable for storms because of the warm waters. The warmer the waters are the more likely there

Australia And Japan Expressed Their Interest Of Signing A...
Australia and Japan expressed their interest in signing a defence technology cooperation agreement
after Japanese Prime Minister Abe and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott s meeting during Abe s
visit to Australia in July (Prime Minister of Australia 2014). This is surprising for the international
society as the Japanese constitution did not allow Japan to export its military technologies until the
Japanese government s recent change to Article 9 (Nye 2014). Even though the agreement is not
signed yet, this news had attracted many attention from around the globe. There are various kinds of
explanations and analyzations on why this two states would choose to release such information at this
time. The argument for this essay would be that the defence technology cooperation agreement may be
one of the many policies that aims on making Japan a normal country, in response in the rising power
of China and the threats from Korea, so that it can play a better role in balancing regional security.
This essay will try to prove this argument by briefly introducing why Japan is not a normal country
within the international society and Prime Minister Abe s recent efforts to change this situation, how a
defence technology cooperation agreement between Australia and Japan can play a critical role on this
matter, why Japan and Australia are considering choose to sign such agreement with each other, and
the incentives for Australia to support Japan s goal of strengthening its military

The UN SDGs are a universal call to improve quality of life for everyone. There are 17 goals which
provides guidelines for all countries to make choices that will improve the lives of their citizens in a
sustainable way by reducing poverty, climate change, disaster risk, inequality, and encouraging
peacebuilding. Goal number 11 is Sustainable Cities and Communities. The purpose of this goal is to
help make cities more livable and sustainable by providing affordable housing, investing in
transportation, creating public green spaces, and making communities more inclusive. They aim to
reach most of their targets by 2030, which includes providing access to housing, upgrading slums,
improving transportation and road safety, protect culture and heritage, provide access to green spaces
for all, promote inclusiveness, and support the least developed countries all over the world.

Sofa Beds Persuasive
If space is an issue, sofa beds are a great addition to your household, offering adaptability and
flexibility. You can use them in any room and today s sofa beds are far more comfortable than the ones
you slept as a youngster. However, as with anything in life, there are a few things you need to know
before taking the plunge. Here are six vital points to consider when buying a sofa bed.
The mattress is critical
Sofa beds come in all shapes and sizes, but the most important feature is the mattress. A good mattress
can add a little extra to the retail price of the sofa bed, of course. But they will also last for years and
keep your guests comfy whether they are sitting or sleeping. If the foam mattresses that are available

The Death Of A Great Day By Jimmy Smalls
Jimmy Smalls was having a great day. However, that great day ended almost immediately and rather
abruptly. Jimmy had recently received a promotion to Assistant Manager of the UniTech Corporation.
Sadly, this promotion lasted for a grand total of a week. But his all new job wasn t the only thing
falling apart. On the second evening of his job, Jimmy opened his door to find basically everything in
his small but cozy home a mess. Furniture was strewn across the ground, lamps were dismantled, and
his television had a spider web crack coursing through its middle. But perhaps the most horrific sight
was of his luscious red carpet mangled and twisted as if a lawnmower was run over it. The gold lining
had frayed to the metal bits it had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His hair flew around, whipping from side to side. Jimmy s plan was beginning to form.
What if there was a way to end variation and make everything the same? he asked Kevin. Would you
work with me to help eliminate the majority of problems in the world?
Kevin didn t really see the point of saying no, but he wouldn t have said it if there was an option. Why
not make the world a better place.
They waited for a day and stocked up on supplies.
Kevin, I need you to steal that 3D Printer from your company, Jimmy told him.
What? Why? Kevin agreed with Jimmy s plan, but he didn t see why stealing was necessary.
Jimmy tried to phrase his next answer in a way that Kevin could understand. We need that printer to
create the community. It s the only way we can make it .
Finally, Jimmy and Kevin packed their bags and headed to California. They got to work and ended up
building the infrastructure of the community. Next were the citizens. Each citizen would be made from
slightly varying presets enough to distinguish, but not to discriminate. Their haircut would convey the
same style, and everyone would wear the same clothes.
But one person was special; his name was Jason. He d be the first Receiver of the community. He
would hold onto all of the memories Jimmy would transfer to him and would host the only emotional
perspective in the community; good and bad, and he would need to pass them onto the next generation
secretly. Jason was average sized not too tall

Similarities Between Carry On And Harry Potter
Carry On is a fantasy novel written by Rainbow Rowell, one that mirrors the Harry Potter series,
written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter was born into the Wizarding World, and prophesied to be the
savior of the magical world. Harry attends Hogwarts, a boarding school for young witches and
wizards, and over his six years there, works up the power to defeat Lord Voldemort. Simon Snow, on
the other hand, was born a Normal. At age eleven, he was taken to Watford, the magical school in the
World of Mages. He is thought to be the Chosen One, and is trained to use his magic to defeat the
Humdrum. The two books are similar in more ways than one, but they also have their differences.
Some common elements are character types, themes, and the Chosen One archetype. Characters come
in many different shapes and sizes, not to mention their personalities and roles. Before getting very
far, one will notice the abundance of similarities between these two texts, including the element of
magic, the setting, and other small details. One thing that stands out are the common archetypes
between Carry On and Harry Potter. The first of these similar characters come in the form of the best
friend. Ron Weasley and Penelope Bunce are alike in the sense that they are the best friend of the main
character, and could even be considered as the sidekicks. Both are at the hero s side when needed, and
there to provide some comic relief or reassurance in troubling times. This leads to one difference

The Giver Movie Vs Book
The Giver novel published in 1993 written by Lois Lowry. And until after 21 years, released on big
screen directed by Philip Noyce. The Giver is a must read, about a teenage boy, 16 years of age, Jonas
(Brenton Thwaites) living in a far futuristic dystopian society where everything seems to be a
PERFECT life with Sameness. But when Jonas is selected instead of assigned a job, he is to receive
memory from the Giver (Jeff Bridges) as his assigned role. Jonas realises the bright and dark
factualities of his community. And with the dark truths, Jonas decides to try to escape from the society
to elsewhere, releasing all memories to everyone.
From the novel to the film, Noyce, and screenwriters Michael Mitnick and Robert Weide stay close to
the plot and characters with some significant changes. The movie begins introducing the community
and their technological dwellings where Jonas, his assigned parents (Alexander Skarsgard and Katie
Holmes) and younger sister (Emma Tremblay) live as black and white to show what the people living
in the community see as it is not very interesting. But in the book, it begins with the recent release
with no identification of the colors that are seen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Manslaughter Vs Manslaughter Cases
The Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the emplacement of the mandatory death sentence. This
declaration makes certain assumptions about crime and criminals. These assumptions include the
notion that not all crimes are equal in severity. Severity of crimes differs from case to case.
Manslaughter can range from a driver unintentionally killing a pedestrian to a disgruntled ex
employee shooting his ex boss. One of these manslaughter cases proves intentional, while the other
case proves accidental. Both cases fit the description of manslaughter, but both men are not
necessarily menaces to society. The driver made a mistake, whereas the shooter did not. As
evaluations of each case persist, the driver would likely receive a lesser sentence.

Analysis Of Andrew Davis s Career
Andrew Davis started his career in journalism in Spain, as a freelancer. He then got a staff position
with Bloomberg and now is a reporter for Bloomberg in Honk Kong. Although he started his career
many years ago, his experience was very interesting to me, since he manage to make the transition
from freelance journalist to staff correspondent. He was at the right place at the right moment:
Bloomberg was starting its operation in Europe in that period, and, as Davis said, It was desperately
looking for reporters in Spain. He also has many connections in Europe, where he worked for several
years as a correspondent for the news agency. Davis was very optimistic about my endeavor. At the
end of our talk on Skype, he said that he would hook me up with several contacts he has in Brussels, if
I decide to go there. This is a summary of our talk on Skype, which lasted more than 30 minutes. I was
interested in Spain because I had spent a semester there during my undergraduate studies, and I
wanted to go back. I managed to get a kind of professional Fulbright: It lasted only six months, was
for working journalists and required the completion of an independent project. I worked on the advent
of private television in Spain, and how it changed how news was covered, particularly the Gulf War. I
did a lot of reading and spent some time at different Spanish TV stations, watching how they worked.
Then, I started freelancing. Before I went over, I contacted a bunch of main news

The Melancholic Tone of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe Essay
The Melancholic Tone of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven, is representing Poe s own introvertedness, which is strangely moving
and attractive to the reader. In his essay entitled The Philosophy of Composition, Poe reveals his intent
in writing The Raven and also describes the work of writing the poem as being carefully calculated in
all aspects. Of all melancholy topics, Poe wished to use the most understood, death, specifically death
involving a beautiful woman.
The tone in Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven represents a painful state of mind, a mind that is vulnerable
to madness that is brought upon by the death of his beloved lady. Which is representing Poe s own

The raven patronizes Poe that he will never see his lost love again when uttering, forget this lost
Lenore (Thompson, 83). Alcohol taunts Poe into never ending depression and caused Poe to have a
life long problem with alcoholism, which led to his death. In a similar way that the alcohol explored
Poe s inner devastation, the raven gives a look into the narrator s innermost fears that he will never see
his Lenore again. In the first stanza, questioning from what direction the tapping came, he throws open
the door, the narrators nemesis not to be found. In fact it was some other realm that must have been
opened up about his lost love and the noise, which is driving him insane. The narrator then opens the
shutter, which could be interpreted as opening his soul to the outside world. To his surprise, he
discovers a raven, a beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door (Thompson, 53). The
raven directs all further action in the poem, it ridicules and patronizes the narrator throughout the
poem and its evil force creates a sense of suffering and anguish within the character. The climax of the
poem is when the narrator faces his confused and disordered world and in the narrator s madness he
cries out, Get thee back into the tempest and the Night s Plutonian shore! (Thompson, 98).
Poe s use of symbolism was influential in making the literary reputation of The Raven . The raven is

Vladimir Putin Controversy
Vladimir Putin s Presidency has been successful even though it is riddled with controversy and
corruption starting from his first election, and leading to his decision to invade Ukraine and annex
Crimea. When Vladimir Putin took office in 1991, it started a 16 year run of power, deceit, and
corruption, which has been riddled with controversy. Nevertheless, there is no denying that Russia has
thrived since the election of Vladimir Putin, economically, politically and militarily. Vladimir Putin

Russia shortly after Yeltsin decided to resign from President of Russia. After a short, yet successful

In 2013 as Ukraine was negotiating with the European Union, President Putin was also conducting
secret meetings with the president of Ukraine. These secret meetings helped sway the President of
Ukraine to decide against joining the union and striking a deal with Russia for oil and natural gas. This
was the starting point for the Ukrainian revolution in 2014. The Ukrainian President found refuge in
Russia after he was exiled for his decision to join Russia and not the European Union. Now with
Ukraine in disarray, Putin had a new plan; he secretly sent soldiers into Crimea. Putin saw Crimea as a
vital piece of land that could help Russia by giving them a seaport, which is more accessible to the rest
of the world. This would also give Russia the chance to strengthen their navy by giving them a more
direct route to the west in order to defend themselves from the west. Starting October 2014 reports
surfaced that there were troops in Crimea. Putin and Russia s government denied all claims that the
troops were Russian soldiers. By March 2, 2015, Russia acknowledged that they had sent troops to the
border of Ukraine to protect Russia from any actions towards Russia. By March 16, Russia announced
that troops are in Ukraine and that they held the majority of the government buildings in Crimea. This
sparked the first set of sanctions from the west. Mostly economic, Russia was able to hold out and not
be affected by these sanctions. The second set of sanctions hit their businesses and many of Putin s
friends, which he appointed. This is when Putin started to negotiate with the west. Crimea then held a
vote to see if they would join Russia or stay part of Ukraine. 90% voted in favor of joining Russia.

Support Alone Essay
The usefulness of just using support alone will only tell you how many times each item appear

appears together is only 5.3%. This might be the case because depending on a customer s sweet tooth
the purchase may be different or the bakery has a different special going each day. I do not believe we

South Korea Suicide
The prominent education frenzy in South Korea places students in a high stress environment which
can contribute to the risk for suicide ideation. The average school day in South Korea lasts eight to
nine hours, which is then followed by cram school and multiple hours dedicated to studying. An
anonymous student, quoted by BBC News, described her day as the following:
She rises at 6.30am, is at school by 8am, finishes at 4pm, (or 5pm if she has a club), then pops back
home to eat. She then takes a bus to her second school shift of the day, at a private crammer or

In an article for the Economist by S. C., the author summarizes that the purpose of the exam is to
provide an analogous view of students abilities that universities or future employers can easily
reference. However, the fundamental problem with this method is that the test is only empirical if
students study for the same amount of time, otherwise those who study the most have an advantage
going into the test. With this knowledge in mind, students become overly competitive in an attempt to
get into leading colleges and spend a majority of their time studying or in academically related
situations. In order to accommodate for cram schools and the extra homework provided by them,
students sacrifice their time for themselves and their sleep. In a study published in the Korean Journal
of Pediatrics on sleep patterns and school performances, data indicated an average of less than six
hours of sleep on the weeknights for high schoolers. Additionally, the National Sleep Foundation

Different Styles Of Traditional Thai Ensembles
There are two different, traditional Thai ensembles. Neither type of ensemble has a specific name,
however, they can be easily differentiated by the different types of instruments they use. One type of
ensemble consists mainly of string and melodic percussion instruments (Morton, 1976). This same
ensemble is responsible for providing music for plays and other stage acts. The most well known style
of music that the string and melodic percussion ensembles would perform is Pi phat. This expression
of music is distinguishable by its fast, flashy tempo and unique instruments ( Music of Thailand ,
2013). Pi phat is audibly recognizable by the pinai, a shrill quadruple reed oboe like instrument which
is always accompanied by melodic percussion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The origin of xylophones can be traced back to Africa and several early Asian civilizations, but it is
has a Greek name that means wood sound ( Percussion Instruments , 2015). It was greatly used in
Thailand in folk music and traditional Thai music. Both traditional and folk Thai music share similar
characteristics; both use some of the same melodic percussion instruments, and among these
instruments are xylophones. Xylophones are melodic percussion instruments that consist of a series of
wooden bars graduated in length to produce the musical scale, supported by belts of straw or felt (
Xylophone , Merriam Webster). These instruments are traditionally played by striking the wooden
bars with two small wooden hammers.
In modern times, xylophones are used in ensembles around the world. A modern xylophone has its
wooden bars, or keys, arranged like the keys of the piano and attached to the bottom of the wooden
bars are metal tubes called resonators, where the sound vibrates. The resonators gives the xylophone
its bright, bell like sound ( Percussion Instruments , 2015). It is considered to have a soprano pitch due
to its shrill sound. In orchestras, xylophones are played with four mallets instead of the traditional two
mallet method (Cherrett, 2011). They are also played using mallets of other materials rather than the
traditional wooden hammers. Xylophones can be played with mallets of different hardnesses

The Secret Scripture Analysis
Although the novel The Secret Scripture written by Sebastian Barry is constantly alternating between
past and present, the transition happens quickly and smoothly. This is due to the narrator s use of the
relationship with the past and what is happening during the present. What starts as the present bleeds
into the past through Roseanne s hidden biography. The way on page sixty, how she is in the past
remembering when her father was demoted to a rat catcher. Then page sixty one the reader is in the
present again, but it s not random. She is saying how clearly she remembers that day. Then on that
same page she jumps back to remembering how prideful her father was of his job in the cemetery. You

Rayleigh Bnard Fargination Problem
Rayleigh Bénard convection problem involves an unstable temperature gradient driving the pertur
bations to grow for a single fluid or even a mixture of fluids without phase transformation. However,
when the mixture of fluids involve phase transformation, apart from the cooling experienced by the
parcel as it relaxes to the temperature of its surrounding, it also experiences the latent heat release or
absorption associated with the phase transformation. Troposphere, the convection dominated regime
of the atmosphere, has a temperature gradient of 70 K from 288 K at the surface to 222
K at the tropopause and the pressure also decreases exponentially with an e folding height of 7.64 km
the combined effect of both pressure and temperature implies the phase transformation of the water
vapor. A rising parcel of air can have phase transformation of water vapor to liquid droplets and ice
particles, and further, the liquid droplets and ice particles can also transform back to the vapor form.
One would expect the effect of phase transformation can be captured as a source/sink term in the
energy equation, but the intricacy of the system is furthered by the momentum driving characteristic of
the moisture present in the atmosphere.

Ecological State Of Reddam House Wetland Essay
BIOLOGY PROJECT Ecological State of Reddam House Wetland Daanyaal Abdool Grade 12 Mr.
Smee Introduction: Wetlands play a major role in the ecosystem as the provides habitats for animals as
well as purify water and our wetland at Reddam House acts as a purification for water that passes it as
well as a habitat for many birds and insects. Within this task we were required to determine the
ecological state of the Reddam House wetland, which I presume is at a good standard. I decided to test
the ecological status of the wetland by gathering samples from the wetland and testing it for various
aspects in the water and the plants that are found within the area. Literature review:
http://www.environmental+science+.org/bird environmental indicators (Refer to appendix 1 for
article) In this article it speaks about many different types of indicators that one could see in order to
determine the ecological state of the wetland by my factors such as the biodiversity, pollution levels,
the fauna and flora in the wetland. This relates to our wetland as we have a large biodiversity in our
wetland with little pollution as well as plants such as reeds growing which indicate a healthy wetland.
We also occasionally see a large variety of birds in our wetland therefore another indicator that our
wetland is healthy. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why are wetlands so important to

Furthermore, if evidence in the prevailing context is unable to lead to action, its utility and the

Father Vs. Son Rivalry In Finding Nemo
One of the bigger conflicts in the play is the battle rivalry between the king and the prince. Which is
similar to struggle of Uranus vs. Saturn or Saturn vs. Jupiter in ancient mythology. This struggle is a
prime example of the rivalry of the values of a father figure and the values of a son. Father versus son
conflict are evident in many different people s lives and many families in today s world. Think about
every teenage guy with their dad s, they constantly butt heads and have conflicting ideas. The teenager
in their own minds think they are always right, while the Father who has life experience has his own
ideas and is trying to develop their child into a successful adult and human being. Father versus son

Their is the one of the older son where he does not want to move away from his childhood home to a
home in a suburb in closer to the city where his dad got a job at. His girlfriend breaks up with him due
to him moving away, so the oldest son blames his father for this and eventually runs away to try to
reconcile with his ex girlfriend. The father and son reconcile though, and never argue again. Unlike in
the play where the King and the Prince reconcile, then they eventually end up in conflict and
opposition again. Another example of father versus son conflict is one of the other boys as he strives
for his dad s attention, yet his dad constantly ignores him and he finally thinks its enough and runs
away from his family. This is alot different than the play because in the play his the Prince s family
does not try to save the Prince where as in the movie the whole family searches for the younger
brother of the family. These two forms of entertainments are very different and yet have certain
similarities for example the key father versus son conflict, while the difference between the two is that
one the conflict is resolved, while in the other the conflict is resolved for a brief part of the plot, but is
soon reignited by the Prince s fulfillment of the prophecy which

Summary Of Don Juan A Yaqui Way Of Knowledge
The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda explores spiritual and
philosophical awaking through the use of hallucinogenic plants (mainly peyote) to induce states of
nonordinary reality, and ancient Yaqui knowledge. It is an anthropological memoir of the experiences
of the author under the tutelage of the Yaqui Indian Sorcerer (brujo) don Juan Matus in Sonora,
Mexico from 1960 to 1965. The book was written by Castaneda as his Master s thesis in the school of
anthropology at the University of California Los Angeles, and was published by the university in
1968. The book is presented in two parts: the first deals with the teachings of don Juan; while the
second is an academic look at his journey. It is the first in a series of books by Castaneda that delve
into the subject of spiritual awakening, and development; something Castaneda devoted the rest of his

Abstract
This paper will examine five emerging trends associated with the future of higher education. Within
the United States higher education has become commercialized. Obtaining a college degree has been
marketed as a necessity for anyone seeking a successful future. The increased demand results in
increased costs, both for the institution and the student. University administrators recognize the
increased demand for a college education and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third category includes private for profit institutions that offer predominately on line course
instruction. No matter what category the institution falls under, various trends are impacting higher
education and threaten to redefine the traditional mission. What follows is a discussion of five such
trends and an examination of the potential impact upon students, faculty, staff, parents and the
institutions.
The Cost of Higher Education The cost of higher education is on the rise. Within the United States,
nearly every state has reduced funding to higher education. As a result, institutions are challenged with
replacing the lost revenue and in most cases this is accomplished by increasing tuition. In addition the
cost of benefits for faculty and staff is increasing. Dew (2012) found that as health care costs increase
and both private and state sponsored pension funds decrease, institutions are increasingly dipping into
their own revenues to support benefit packages. In another effort to reduce costs, universities continue
to reduce the number of full time faculty and replace them with adjunct faculty and graduate assistants
both of which are exempt from benefits. As tenured faculty members retire, universities elect to fill the
position with part time faculty in lieu of high salaried tenured professors. Increased costs have a
cascading effect on other initiatives as well. State budget cuts threaten research universities by
reducing the funds

Poor Richards Almanac Essay
First published by Benjamin Franklin in 1732, Poor Richard s Almanack was a guide to both weather
forecasts and wise sayings. Franklin used the pseudonym Richard Saunders in writing the text, which
became an annual publication up until 1757. Response to the almanac was tremendous, and it sold as
many as 10,000 issues a year. Second only to the bible, Poor Richard s Almanack was one of the most
popular and purchased publications in colonial America. The almanac stressed the two qualities
Franklin found to be essential to success, industry and frugality. Benjamin Franklin wrote this in hope
of having a positive effect on the colonies.

Overall, these sayings changed many of the colonist s lives, and made them think about how they were
conducting their lives.
Besides its many proverbs, the almanac contained forecasts for weather in the colonies. These
forecasts were based on the different weather patterns that Franklin predicted, and because they were
only predicted, they were not always accurate (Giblin 26). The forecasts proved to be very helpful to
the farmers and plantation workers when determining the kind of seasons the crops would have.
Weather played a very important role in the lives of the early colonists, and the almanac provided a
means for people to arrange their lives according to these weather forecasts. Although not the most
important part of the almanac, the colonists were always discussing the accuracy or imprecision of
Franklin s predictions.
In conclusion, by writing and publishing Poor Richard s Almanack, Benjamin Franklin made an
enormous contribution to the American public. It provided informatio0n on many topics that people
had not addresses publicly ever before. It also predicted the weather forecast, which was very helpful

Land Reform In The 1940 s And 1950s
In this paper I will discuss land reforms in the 1940 s and 1950 s and how they are affecting society
still today. According to Dictionary.com land reform is a governmental program that takes land from
farmers and redistributes it among the landless
Land reforms are the changing of laws and regulations that make it possible for lands to be
redistributed. This usually results in the transfer of land from a person or corporation that holds a lot
of it into the hands of a person who has no land. This is mostly done to agricultural land as a part of a
governmental property redistribution program . The transfer of landownership may be completed
without an exchange of compensation. When compensation is given the amounts vary depending on
the land. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other reasons that people support land reform is because it helps to regulate conflicting land laws, in
cases where formal and informal land laws may conflict with each other. This is beneficial to a
countries legal system as many times lawsuits about land end up in the legal system. Once the issue is
in the legal system it may take an extremely long time to address. For most people being secure in
landownership would help them utilize it better. This would in many cases result in result in the

NHL Player Tracking Essay
According to the Sports Business Daily article, NHL aims for player tracking system this year , vision
based tracking systems have not been the most accurate when it comes to tracking the puck on the ice.
This is mainly because of the speed of the puck and its unpredictable movement (Thomas, 2017). It is
also because of its tendency to be covered up by the goalie which can lead to incorrect readings. For
this reason, the NHL has talked with two potential vendors that can provide each of these individual
technologies (Thomas, 2017).
David Lehanski, senior vice president of business development and global partnerships of the NHL
states that their goal is to test the technologies at the 2017 2018 All Star Game in Tampa, Florida

of lyrics in the song are, I still taste your presence, Once sweet but it turned sour, Tried to shake your
indifference, But it s too late now (00:00:15 00:00:28). This set of lyrics show metaphorically that
Gabbie still feels the persons presence anywhere she goes that once was creating and holding good

reveals the flashbacks of these memories that were created with the use of pictures. This could also be
portrayed with mental illness, the places that once held a good memory is now replaced with the
mental illness related memories and what happened when the mental illnesses were affecting her. In
the style of the music video and the first set of lyrics, Gabbie displays that she is using pathos and
ethos. Gabbie uses the style of pathos by appealing to emotions through the power of emotions and the
fact of losing someone. Someone could also relate to this song and appeal to their emotions by either

nature of humans and their need to alienate what they don t understand. In The Making of a Slut ,
Dinah was constantly made out to be a bad girl due to her defying the socially acceptable way girls
acted. The girls had to conform to society s standards of women; wearing what was deemed

she had the will to pursue that desired. Yet, people never saw that side of her due to their predisposed

Wolf states that in our group Dinah became the slut. She found that role or rather, it found her, and she
did not deign to fight it. She put it on with dignity (317). Despite what everyone thought of her, Dinah
didn t care because she knew who she was. Dinah knew she wasn t a slut and that she didn t have to
give up on being herself because of societies fears. So, despite the ridicule and the shame of others
brought her through rumors and lies Dinah held her head high and let others live with their
understanding about why she acts the way she does despite it being false. It was people s lack of
understanding that lead them to label Dinah. It wasn t that they necessarily feared her as a person, but
rather the fact she refused to act like other girls which made people uneasy. When fear arises,
everyone takes safety in forming groups to point the finger at another to make sense of their lack of
understanding. This was just the case in Rod Serling s The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street. A lack
of understanding leads to panic and its panic that begets fear, this was the cause of the chaos that

Thesis For The Lottery
Being stoned to death by 300 of your friends and family is possibly the worst way anyone would ever
want to be killed. In the short story The Lottery written by an author Shirley Jackson, she mentions
about a small village consisting of 300 residents who most reluctantly participate in an annual lottery

possibility of winning a prize, which makes you wonder what the prize is. At the end of the story the
protagonist, Mrs. Hutchinson, who also happens to be the winner of the lottery is stoned to death. I
argue that Jackson wrote this story to inform us how living in a small community isn t always a great
thing because in a small population people start gossiping about one another, which can lead to issues
and could turn into hatred.

  • 3. Julius Caesar Pride Quotes John C. Maxwell once said Leaders who fail to prune their pride will meet demise. That s not a guess, it s a guarantee. With pride, it s not a matter of if we will fall, but when. There are no exceptions. This quote Maxwell says shows how influential pride is and how it can/will lead to someone s downfall. Pride is a signal of destruction. This can be shown a lot throughout the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. In the play, Julius Caesar shows his pride many times and this leads to his demise. Examples include when he talks about threats, danger, and the northern star. Pride can make people very stubborn, and when Calpurnia is trying to protect Caesar; he dismisses this. Calpurnia has just told Caesar about a dream she has where she fears his death is near. Another time he shows his pride is when he tells Calpurnia how these warnings of his death are nothing to be afraid of. He says, The things that threatened me ne er looked but on my back. When they shall see the face of Caesar, they are vanished (Shakespeare 26). This quote is saying how even though there are threats Caesar knows about behind his back; he says that once they face him the threats will go away. Caesar believes this and it ... The skies are painted with unnumbered sparks. They are all fire and every one doth shine, but there s but one in all doth hold his place (Shakespeare 35). This quote shows how Caesar compares himself to the northern star. Caesar believes he is stable, constant and has no equal. Just like the Northern star. This shows how Caesar s pride affects his outlook and how pride can lead to his demise. Soon after Caesar says this quote the conspirators, they see this as the time to kill Caesar. • 4. The Environment Of The Sea Ocean Over 70 percent of the world is covered in water. Water plays a huge part in our world, whether the water makes our plants grow that feed our animals and plants that we eat to the water that grows the trees we use to build our infrastructure, or heat our homes with to providing a huge underwater world known as the Ocean and water also is the main reason us, humans, are alive. We need water to live, without water humans would not be able to survive. With this being said water runs our lives. Humans which live on land also rely on life from the ocean for food. Humans must keep the water pollution levels at normal levels or else the water will taint the animals they use for food. The animals are not the only thing they have to worry about polluting in the Ocean. Other pollutants like CO2 and other greenhouse gases make the ocean waters fluctuate. This fluctuation affects the Climate. The ocean waters are responsible for heating the planet. Although the land masses of the world (continents) also receive the same amount of sunlight, there is much more water than land, therefore the water absorbs most of the suns light. How the basics of how this works is water evaporates into the air rising upwards. While this evaporation is occurring the temperature rises as well as the humidity forming rain and storms to develop. This is how hurricanes form in the tropics. The tropics are the most variable for storms because of the warm waters. The warmer the waters are the more likely there ... Australia and Japan expressed their interest in signing a defence technology cooperation agreement after Japanese Prime Minister Abe and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott s meeting during Abe s visit to Australia in July (Prime Minister of Australia 2014). This is surprising for the international society as the Japanese constitution did not allow Japan to export its military technologies until the Japanese government s recent change to Article 9 (Nye 2014). Even though the agreement is not signed yet, this news had attracted many attention from around the globe. There are various kinds of explanations and analyzations on why this two states would choose to release such information at this time. The argument for this essay would be that the defence technology cooperation agreement may be one of the many policies that aims on making Japan a normal country, in response in the rising power of China and the threats from Korea, so that it can play a better role in balancing regional security. • 9. The Death Of A Great Day By Jimmy Smalls Jimmy Smalls was having a great day. However, that great day ended almost immediately and rather abruptly. Jimmy had recently received a promotion to Assistant Manager of the UniTech Corporation. Sadly, this promotion lasted for a grand total of a week. But his all new job wasn t the only thing falling apart. On the second evening of his job, Jimmy opened his door to find basically everything in his small but cozy home a mess. Furniture was strewn across the ground, lamps were dismantled, and his television had a spider web crack coursing through its middle. But perhaps the most horrific sight was of his luscious red carpet mangled and twisted as if a lawnmower was run over it. The gold lining had frayed to the metal bits it had been ... What if there was a way to end variation and make everything the same? he asked Kevin. Would you work with me to help eliminate the majority of problems in the world? Kevin didn t really see the point of saying no, but he wouldn t have said it if there was an option. Why not make the world a better place. We need that printer to create the community. It s the only way we can make it . Finally, Jimmy and Kevin packed their bags and headed to California. They got to work and ended up building the infrastructure of the community. Next were the citizens. Each citizen would be made from slightly varying presets enough to distinguish, but not to discriminate. Their haircut would convey the same style, and everyone would wear the same clothes. But one person was special; his name was Jason. He d be the first Receiver of the community. • 10. Similarities Between Carry On And Harry Potter Carry On is a fantasy novel written by Rainbow Rowell, one that mirrors the Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter was born into the Wizarding World, and prophesied to be the savior of the magical world. Harry attends Hogwarts, a boarding school for young witches and wizards, and over his six years there, works up the power to defeat Lord Voldemort. Simon Snow, on the other hand, was born a Normal. At age eleven, he was taken to Watford, the magical school in the World of Mages. He is thought to be the Chosen One, and is trained to use his magic to defeat the Humdrum. The two books are similar in more ways than one, but they also have their differences. Some common elements are character types, themes, and the Chosen One archetype. Characters come in many different shapes and sizes, not to mention their personalities and roles. Before getting very far, one will notice the abundance of similarities between these two texts, including the element of magic, the setting, and other small details. One thing that stands out are the common archetypes between Carry On and Harry Potter. The first of these similar characters come in the form of the best friend. Ron Weasley and Penelope Bunce are alike in the sense that they are the best friend of the main character, and could even be considered as the sidekicks. Both are at the hero s side when needed, and there to provide some comic relief or reassurance in troubling times. This leads to one difference between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the first stanza, questioning from what direction the tapping came, he throws open the door, the narrators nemesis not to be found. In fact it was some other realm that must have been opened up about his lost love and the noise, which is driving him insane. The narrator then opens the shutter, which could be interpreted as opening his soul to the outside world. To his surprise, he discovers a raven, a beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door (Thompson, 53). The raven directs all further action in the poem, it ridicules and patronizes the narrator throughout the poem and its evil force creates a sense of suffering and anguish within the character. The climax of the poem is when the narrator faces his confused and disordered world and in the narrator s madness he cries out, Get thee back into the tempest and the Night s Plutonian shore! Now with Ukraine in disarray, Putin had a new plan; he secretly sent soldiers into Crimea. Putin saw Crimea as a vital piece of land that could help Russia by giving them a seaport, which is more accessible to the rest of the world. This would also give Russia the chance to strengthen their navy by giving them a more direct route to the west in order to defend themselves from the west. It was greatly used in Thailand in folk music and traditional Thai music. Both traditional and folk Thai music share similar characteristics; both use some of the same melodic percussion instruments, and among these instruments are xylophones. Xylophones are melodic percussion instruments that consist of a series of wooden bars graduated in length to produce the musical scale, supported by belts of straw or felt ( Xylophone , Merriam Webster). These instruments are traditionally played by striking the wooden bars with two small wooden hammers. In modern times, xylophones are used in ensembles around the world. A modern xylophone has its wooden bars, or keys, arranged like the keys of the piano and attached to the bottom of the wooden bars are metal tubes called resonators, where the sound vibrates. The resonators gives the xylophone its bright, bell like sound ( Percussion Instruments , 2015). It is considered to have a soprano pitch due to its shrill sound. In orchestras, xylophones are played with four mallets instead of the traditional two mallet method (Cherrett, 2011). Rayleigh Bnard Fargination Problem Rayleigh Bénard convection problem involves an unstable temperature gradient driving the pertur bations to grow for a single fluid or even a mixture of fluids without phase transformation. However, when the mixture of fluids involve phase transformation, apart from the cooling experienced by the parcel as it relaxes to the temperature of its surrounding, it also experiences the latent heat release or absorption associated with the phase transformation. Troposphere, the convection dominated regime of the atmosphere, has a temperature gradient of 70 K from 288 K at the surface to 222 K at the tropopause and the pressure also decreases exponentially with an e folding height of 7.64 km the combined effect of both pressure and temperature implies the phase transformation of the water vapor. A rising parcel of air can have phase transformation of water vapor to liquid droplets and ice particles, and further, the liquid droplets and ice particles can also transform back to the vapor form. One would expect the effect of phase transformation can be captured as a source/sink term in the energy equation, but the intricacy of the system is furthered by the momentum driving characteristic of the moisture present in the atmosphere. **Buckingham Pi analysis of a moist system reveals two additional dimensionless numbers, Ra v and Le apart from Ra T , P r and Re, appearing in a single phase natural convection problem. The dimensionless parameters are Lewis number (Le), Prandtl number(P r), moisture driven Rayleigh number (Ra v ), analogous to thermally driven Rayleigh number(Ra T ) and Reynolds number(Re). Of these 5 dimensionless numbers, Le and P r capture the properties of the fluid, Ra T and Ra v represents the surrounding conditions and Re represents the nature of resulting flow.** In atmosphere owing to the wide variety of processes and further limited by our measurement capabilities, phenomena at fine ranges are not always captured. What follows is a discussion of five such trends and an examination of the potential impact upon students, faculty, staff, parents and the institutions. The Cost of Higher Education The cost of higher education is on the rise. Within the United States, nearly every state has reduced funding to higher education. As a result, institutions are challenged with replacing the lost revenue and in most cases this is accomplished by increasing tuition. In addition the cost of benefits for faculty and staff is increasing. Dew (2012) found that as health care costs increase and both private and state sponsored pension funds decrease, institutions are increasingly dipping into their own revenues to support benefit packages. In another effort to reduce costs, universities continue to reduce the number of full time faculty and replace them with adjunct faculty and graduate assistants both of which are exempt from benefits. As tenured faculty members retire, universities elect to fill the position with part time faculty in lieu of high salaried tenured professors. Besides its many proverbs, the almanac contained forecasts for weather in the colonies. The forecasts proved to be very helpful to the farmers and plantation workers when determining the kind of seasons the crops would have. Weather played a very important role in the lives of the early colonists, and the almanac provided a means for people to arrange their lives according to these weather forecasts. Although not the most important part of the almanac, the colonists were always discussing the accuracy or imprecision of Franklin s predictions. NHL Player Tracking Essay According to the Sports Business Daily article, NHL aims for player tracking system this year , vision based tracking systems have not been the most accurate when it comes to tracking the puck on the ice. Naomi Wolf states that in our group Dinah became the slut. She found that role or rather, it found her, and she did not deign to fight it. She put it on with dignity (317). Despite what everyone thought of her, Dinah didn t care because she knew who she was. Dinah knew she wasn t a slut and that she didn t have to give up on being herself because of societies fears. So, despite the ridicule and the shame of others brought her through rumors and lies Dinah held her head high and let others live with their understanding about why she acts the way she does despite it being false. It was people s lack of understanding that lead them to label Dinah. It wasn t that they necessarily feared her as a person, but rather the fact she refused to act like other girls which made people uneasy. When fear arises, everyone takes safety in forming groups to point the finger at another to make sense of their lack of understanding.
