Reflection Paper On Extroverts
Reflection: The topic of introverts should not be compelled into acting as if they are extroverts
that was presented by Susan Cain in her TED talk really connects to me because I personally
identify myself as an introvert. Similar to Susan Cain, I would describe myself as reserved,
mellow and comfortable with being alone. I enjoy being by myself and listening to music while
getting deep into the thoughts in my head. I don t really like getting small casual conversations
with strangers and I get emotionally drained with being in a large group of people. These are
some of the things that my little introverted self likes to do. But being quiet and not outgoing is
not the most desirable thing to do, as this is true for my family, friends and the society.
Throughout my life, I have been forced into thinking that if I don t get out there and approach
people, be as outgoing as I possibly could, I will never be successful in life and have others
appreciate me. In a way, it seem like everyone and everything around me is trying to force me to
be something that I m not, which is being an extrovert. This is the same for society as well.
Society expects everyone, especially those who are introverted to be gregarious and make a
statement or act like an extrovert. Society makes it seem that if we don t be in a certain way, in
this case being like an extrovert, no one will get anywhere in their lives, or we can t have it all .
This concept is heavily used in companies and in the business world. When companies look for
potential employees, they tend to look for those who are outgoing and cordial because they think
that they will represent the company well. Often times these companies won t choose those who
seem introverted because they think that they are too soft spoken to represent them in a way that
these companies want them to. We often think that those who are outgoing and sociable are the
ones who make great leaders. But in fact, introverts are the ones that make better leaders because
they are more likely to have their fellow members to come up with their own ideas. Examples of
great leaders in the world who were introverts are Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Rosa Parks.
While extroverts may not let others form

Cafe Europ Life After Communism Essay
The 20th century in Europe was filled with war and revolution along with political and economical
change. The destruction caused by World War II remained prominent in eastern European countries
even years after the war ended in 1945. For years the Soviet Union fought for communism while
NATO did everything they could to prevent it. Although communismslowly released its grip on the
eastern European countries in the late 20th century, western countries still looked down upon these
ex communistic states. After reading the memoir CafГ© Europa: Life After Communism. by
Slavenka Drakulic, one can infer that not only were the people of Eastern Europe a bit eager to

As Drakulic talked about in her memoir, even traveling was made more difficult for eastern
Europeans by the people living in western Europe, who made it seem like people from eastern
Europe should not be trusted (Slavenka Drakulic, 19). I smiled at an officer and was immediately
selected for a luggage search (Slavenka Drakulic, 17). It is almost like no matter how nice an
individual may seem or be, Western Europeans were always on defense, thinking only negatively.
This makes it extremely evident that although the Eastern countries are no longer under communist
regime and European countries as a whole could easily live peacefully amongst each other, there is
still a major division between the east and west (Slavenka Drakulic, 21). People in ex communist
countries tried their hardest to fit in with the western European countries. There were many cafГ©s
and hotels made with names such as Vienna, in efforts to try and seem like they have some sort of
connection with these western countries. Simply by using such a name, you are presenting not
only an image, but a whole system of values, too (Slavenka Drakulic, 9). It is almost like the more
the western countries rejected the east, the more the eastern countries wanted to join the

GPS Safety Bubble Technology Essay
Although Global Positioning technology has existed since the mid 1970 s, some of the most
significant advancements have taken place within the last five years. In recent months, studies have
been conducted by NASA and other institutions concerning the use of advanced GPS technology in
both computer controlled flight of commercial aircraft and the establishment of no fly safety
bubbles around designated areas and buildings. In essence an aircraft s computer system would
override a manual command and not allow the craft to enter these designated areas. There are many
possible benefits of this technology, but with any new advancement also comes ethical questions.
While some believe this technology will increase air travel safety, others... Show more content on

To promote international cooperation in using GPS for peaceful purposes.
To advance U.S. scientific and technical capabilities. (Rand McNally).
During the first years of the GPS development the general public could access the satellites, but
could only realize positioning precision to about 350 feet of actual position. This was due to a
Selective Availability policy that was put in place by the U.S. government to insure that the military
would have superior navigational capabilities to the public. This changed however in May, 2000
when the government decided that these limitations were no longer necessary. Today it is possible,
with the proper equipment, for anyone in the world to determine his or her precise location to
within about 60 feet. All though the information is classified, it is rumored that today, using the
most sophisticated GPS technology, the military can achieve precision within 1 foot of actual
position.
The current Global Positioning System is a group of satellites, known as a constellation, which
continually broadcast both their exact locations in space and the exact time. By tracking the
signals from at least four of these satellites, a GPS receiver on earth can determine its current
latitude, longitude and altitude. Some GPS receivers can also report the current time, direction of
travel and the rate of distance traveled. This is all possible because both the GPS receiver and the
Satellite count time on an atomic clock.

DescartesMeditations, To What Extent Are We Able To...
With reference to Descartes Meditations , to what extent are we able to distinguish between reality
and illusion?
Meditations outlines Descartes method of justifying, through reasoning alone, his initial beliefs
concerning the existence of reality as he perceives it. This challenge of scepticism is itself
achieved through adopting a temporary sceptical approach in meditations 1 and 2. By way of
mental deconstruction and evaluation of all that he had previously considered true, Descartes is left
with only the elements that he is able to ascertain are certain and indubitable . He first asserts our
apparent inability to distrust our senses in distinguishing reality from illusion. This process forms
the foundations from which he may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first meditation, through providing three arguments (waves) as to the nature of our inability
to distinguish reality from illusion, Descartes makes a convincing argument as to why we would,
prior to his reasoned proof of existence of God, disregard all a posteriroi knowledge as a viable
source of information abou the world. In the first wave Descartes questions the legitammacy of the
information provided by the senses. He provides the example of the way in which our sense of
perspective funtions, stating senses occasionally decieve us about things that are veru small or
very far away , to call into question that which we so often rely on to provide us with an accurate
account of reality . Descartes method demands that if reason is to doubt a foundation then all
knowledge based on that foundation should be rejected; of the senses he articulates having
occcasionlly found that they decieved [him] following with the statement that it is prudent never to
trust those who have decieved us . In this way Descartes is seeking to undermine empiricism, his
abandoning of he sense principle is utilied to porve that senses are our main soucrce of error.
A possible contradiction of this could perhaps be Descartes

Art Movement After World War I
According to the Visual Art Encyclopedia, Surrealism sprang up in Paris and became rooted in
the avant garde art world. Surrealism was the fashionable art movement after World War I.
Surrealism is and the last major art movement to be associated with the Ecole de Paris. The writer
Andre Breton (1896 1966), nicknamed the Pope of Surrealism , was the movement s founder and
chief theorist. He introduced and defined the new style in his initial 1924 manifesto (Manifeste du
Surrealisme) and later in his painting bulletin (Surrealisme et la Peinture). Breton deplored the
radical and destructive character of Dada, nevertheless he built on many Dada ideas to create a
movement with a coherent though unbending philosophy. He aimed at nothing less than a total
conversion of the way people thought. Surrealism was less overtly political and advocated a more
positive philosophy. The main focus of the surrealism movement was literature but this rapidly
broadened to painting, sculpture and other forms of contemporary visual art. Surrealist strived to
bring forward the imagery of the unconscious mind. Surrealist philosophy believed that
nongovernmental and irrational art were preferable for life and civilization. Surrealism was
responsible for a host of incredibly innovative but strange art. Surrealism was meant to free the
unconscious mind from reason. Breton and other surrealists were strongly influenced by the
psychological work of Sigmund Freud The term Pop Art was first used by

Polus Vs Plato
Plato makes the distinction between an orator and a philosopher in the Gorgias, by using characters
such as Polus and Socrates. He also uses these characters to illustrate that Socratic discussion not
oratory is the only legitimate philosophical path of finding the truth way to discovering the truth.
Platodoes this by orchestrating the debate between Polus and Socratesand later showing that
Socrates developed the idea of happiness in his last refutation.
In the beginning of the book, Plato orchestrates banter between Chaerephon and Polus to illustrate
his opinions on oratory and show that careful speechmaking often avoids the question instead of
directly searching for the truth. In the banter Chaerephon asks Polus opinion on the title ... Show

Plato utilized Polus to show that orators are never subject to any deeper thought because they are
not questioned by others with different schools of thought. He, however, uses Socrates to
exemplify that a true philosopher utilizes discussion to deepen his own thoughts. Polus had a view
on happiness as a feeling in the moment, which is only analyzing happiness surface level. This led
him to believe that tyrants such as the Great King are happy despite the injustices they commit (471
a 471 d). However, Socrates views true happiness as a state of being in which one receives a
favorable judgement in the afterlife (525 a 525d). Their discussion shows that the comparisons of
both their beliefs and a development of the idea of happiness could not have been brought to light
without Socratic discussion. Plato shows that all parties benefit from Socratic discussion in
developing philosophical thought because Socrates did not mention punishment in any of his
previous refutations until Polus brought the idea to light. This ultimately shows that Socratic
discussion is the only way to discover the truth because it instigates a conversation between
different schools of thought. The idea of punishment influencing happiness is developed in Socrates
last refutation, showing how

Left Neglected By Lisa Genova
Left Neglected by Lisa Genova is a novel based on a woman who gets into a car accident, suffers
from a stroke, and ends up developing left neglect. Left neglect, otherwise known as Hemispatial
neglect, develops after a stroke or brain damage to the right side of the brain. Left neglect is a
neuropsychological condition that causes an attention deficit to the awareness of the left side
of space. A person with left neglect has difficulty processing and perceiving stimuli on the left
side of their body. It can affect a person s visual perception where they are unable to see things or
interpret them on the left side of them. Typically a person with left neglect forgets that their left
side exists. Someone who suffers from left neglect may not be able to dress themselves on their
left side; they may not eat the food on the left side of their plate, or be able to read a left side of a
book. It can cause issues with their mobility where they are unaware of their left extremities,
which can lead to problems in walking or any task using bilateral coordination or skills. Sarah,
the main character in the novel, had a very busy, fulfilling life before her accident. She worked
as a human resources consultant at a very large company. This job required her to work very
long, busy hours. Her career could be considered a spillover, where her job affects and interrupts
parts of her social and family life also. She is always doing something in her office, while having

S. Shmelev, D. Setterfield, Su Tong have shown how by reproducing folklore sources of the
legends like The Mermaid, The Sleeping Beauty and The Prince and Beast, D. Setterfield had

The Addiction Of Cell Phones Essay
The Addiction of Cell Phones A bus driver, who was responsible for transportation of children
from school to home, pulled out his phone and began texting. Soon after, the driver swerved the
school bus and entered into another lane crashing into another bus and toppled over, killing two
children and one adult (Murdock). Phone addiction is a new addiction associated with the use of
cell phones and using it for many hours. In recent times, the falling prices of mobile phones have
led to the affordability of the devices with more people owning a mobile phone, especially
smartphones. Studies continue to establish whether phone addiction affects people, how it affects
them and the different ways it affects different genders and ages. An international poll of 5,000
Britons, Americans, Chinese, South Koreans, South Africans, Indians, Brazilians, and Indonesians
found that most people spent hours on their smartphones (Gilbert). 84% respondents revealed that it
is impossible for them to spend a day without their smartphones, with 50% sleeping with their
phones next to them like a teddy bear (Gilbert). Over 20% check their smart phones every ten
minutes, with 24% using it to set up rendezvous meetings with those they were having affairs with
(Gilbert). From these statistics, it is becoming apparent that increase in reliance of cell phones is
rising signaling the evolution of usage of phones from a habit to that of addiction. It is important to

Should Police Officers Wear Body Cameras Essay
Police officers are the people who protect the community. Lately we had a couple pf incidents
with police officers and citizens. Many citizens are now freighted by police officers. We have some
citizens who do attacks against police officers, causing the loss of innocent lives. Police officers
should be required to wear body cameras because the videos could be used for evidence at trial, and
policeofficers can look back at the videos to evaluate themselves. One reason police officers should
wear body cameras is to be able to use the videos as evidence. Many cases cannot be resolve due to

Female Circumcision Argumentative Essay
Female circumcision, also known as female genital mutilation (FGM), is a major topic in the
feminist spotlight. Based solely on the difference between the descriptions of the topic
(circumcision vs. mutilation), it is easy to see there is conflict of opinions about the ethics
surrounding the practice. While male circumcision is often easily accepted in modern day society,
female circumcision is not. The common stereotype is that female circumcision is performed as a
male dominance practice (Vestbostad Blystad, 2014), however, there are many alternate traditions
surrounding the practice. Therefore, I will investigate both sides of the story: the religious
/traditional outlook, feminist/human rights outlook and why concern is placed on female
circumcision over male.

Achilles As A Hero
In the book The Iliad, by Homer, the main character, Achilles, is a Greek warrior who is part
divine and part human. During the story, Achilles undergoes the steps in becoming a hero. Each of
these steps prepares him for the final moment, when he becomes a hero. Achilles is a hero because
he goes through many of the steps necessary in the path to becoming a hero. The first set of major
steps that Achillesundergoes is the call to adventure, the refusal to the call to action, and the
meeting with the mentor. In Book 1 of the Iliad, Achilles is called to fight against the Trojan s to
reclaim Helen, Menelaus wife. Later in the war, Chryseis and Briseis are taken as prizes from a
battle. They are the daughters of a priest of Apollo named Chryses. After Chryses begs for his
daughters back, the Greeks decide to give Briseis to him and have Chryseis stay. Chryseis
belonged to Achilles as his prize from the battle and Briseis belonged to Agamemnon, a political
leader of the Greeks. Agamemnon then humiliate Achilles by taking Chryseis Achilles s prize, for
himself. This angered Achilles greatly and caused him to leave the Greek army, albeit temporary.
This serves as Achilles refusal to the call of battle. Achilles s anger is shown in Book 1 lines 188
to 192, these lines show how much Achilles s pride affects his actions and how he responds to
conflict. In this situation, his pride is hurt greatly, to the point where he almost kill Agamemnon,
however Athena stops him. Achilles says

Greeny Ride A Horse Western Analysis
How To Properly Ride a Horse Western
Welcome, greeny rider.
I am assuming you know nothing about horseback riding, western style, from the way you are
looking at the saddle. Yes, that is the correct form and fit of the saddle. Yes, it probably is heavy
for your arms. Yes, the reins are supposed to be that long. Any more questions...? Put your hands
down! Good...
Make sure that, when you are trotting, you move against the saddle. When you are in saddle, you
should never move with the saddle. Never. You need to keep your body flailing around against it.
Also, make sure that when you are moving against it, you push your body up towards the saddle
horn and almost clonk the inside of your legs against it every time. That won t hurt at all..

This will make your horse get used to being pulled really hard in the mouth, and it will refuse to
stop whenever you pull back on the reins in the future, because it is so used to having its mouth
ripped up. This will make sure your horse go fast and never tire, because it doesn t have to worry
about being stopped.
Make sure the horse s head is behind the vertical when riding. They don t need to breathe! It won t
even hurt their neck! A horse s head is meant to be pulled down to it s neck, so air has trouble
getting in through their nose and into their lungs. Nobody s head hurts after looking down all day,
either.
You must wear shorts or thin riding pants. Jeans are overrated. You are going to wantthe saddle to
rub against your legs and scrape the skin off. Tougher skin will grow back! But you must keep
riding, even through the pain. You fidgeting in your saddle will make the horse do much better,
because it totally can t pick up on your mood.
And, this, is how to ride Western. The proper way. It s for everyone, especially if you like
ignoring your instructor, or just learning on your own. No mistakes can be made if you do all of

Despite all the previous policies, there are some that have their advantages and disadvantages but
the major shift happened in between 1980 1990 (Ball, 1990). Britain s education system became
increasingly politicised during this time. Ball (1990:3) describes this period as Thatcherism .
Margaret Thatcher s Conservative government brought a lot of changes in the education system,
including parents choice in selecting schools for their children, the national curriculum, national
assessment and school self sufficiency. The main reason for introducing the national curriculum
was due to the failing teachers and this lead to a failing country (Trowler, 1993:100). Whitty
(2016:27) describes Margaret Thatcher s Conservative government restructure as a marketising
approach to the reform of the school system . Similaly, Machin (CEE DP 57) refers to this as
being market mechanisms . These reforms were designed to improve pupil s achievement and the
achievement rate did improve. However, this raised concerns about increased inequality in our
school systems. Different policies have different implications, as mentioned above. The
Conservative government s policy between the years 1980 to 1990 had achieved its target, but its
implications left a huge gap of inequality in our school system. Trowler (1993: 152) discusses the
current century education policies which have to solve five major issues. These are: improving
education provision, social deprivation, improve the teaching profession, improve educational
management and to create a learning

Examples Of Conflict In Les Miserables

book Legend, and Day s conflict. Both characters in each story, have been running away for their

as a jailed, working in poor conditions, just because he stole a piece of bread. As he is released
from prison Javert, the policeman, says that Once a criminal, always a criminal and tells him how
shall be captured again. Years later, Jean Valjean

Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn And The...
Mark Twain, American humorist and novelist, captured a world audience with stories of boyhood
adventure and with commentary on man s shortcomings that is humorous even while it probes,
often bitterly, the roots of human behavior. His writing, Shelley Fisher Fishkin who is one of the
leading scholars on the work of Mark Twainin American culture and literature observes, involves an
entreaty to rethink, reevaluate and reformulate the terms in which one defines both personal and
national identity. Twain hoped to coax us out of our timid and suspicious privacy and into
recognition of human equality and of the dignity of self governing citizenship. Evidently at odds
with so much of established opinion, this high aim was only another reason... Show more content on

In The War Prayer Twain argues against the philosophy of imperialism. This essay was written
in 1900 s when America was caught up in the idea of imperialism and extending its influence to
other countries using military prowess. He reveals that praying for success in war is also
praying for the defeat of another nation. He questions what exactly the people are praying for.
Even though it appears that the people are praying for the safety of their soldiers, in the end it can
be concluded that they are praying for destruction of another civilization. But the argument does
not stop here: the last line of the essay says, It was believed afterward that the man was a lunatic,
because there was no sense in what he said (Twain, 682). After bringing forth the harm caused by
war, the aged stranger is dismissed as a lunatic. The characters sheer ignorance leads them to believe
that God s messenger, who has posed these questions, must be just an insane old man thus
illuminating the public opinion in the early 90s.
The sentences in The War Prayer are lean, accelerated, cadenced, and charged with imagery. The
premise on which their authority depends in this case, that official and religious can t conceal
seeds of their abominable corollaries is self evident and irrefutable. At its core, The War Prayer

How Shakespeare Changed Over Time
Why did people centuries ago use thee and thou and ye when the word you works for all? Why
did people say, let us go presently (Shakespeare) and mean let us go immediately? Because the
English language changes, like every other living language. Words are always changing, making it
quite interesting, and a bit confusing, to read books written a long time ago. Reading Shakespeare s
plays can make someone aware of this change. Due to these changes in English since Shakespeare s
time, reading it today occasionally causes confusion, mainly because of words that have changed
meaning over the centuries, archaic language, and stories or sayings no longer in use today. Any
living language will have words that change meaning over time, and proving this is not too difficult.
In Elizabethan English, fantastical meant hideous or unusual (Shakespeare pg. 41), and nice meant
unintelligent (Smith). These may seem quite unusual, but sometimes an answer can be found to
how the word changed. Fathom used to mean to encircle one s arms (Smith). From that, a fathom
became a measurement the length of someone s arm used for measuring the depth of a lake or sea.
After years, fathom also came to mean understanding something deeply. Words can alter greatly
over time!... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, these words do not all have the same meaning. Ye was plural of you, and thee and
thou people used as the singular and plural of you for talking to those closer to you, or for
speaking without as much respect. You was used while talking to the elderly or those more
important (King). Still today, innumerable languages around the word use different words for you
to show respect or while talking to a friend. This shows yet another way the English language has

Gimpel
The Difference Between Gimpel and Society TodayWhen wronged or made a fool of, people
today tend to recoil, and pounce back with vengeful hearts. It is the attitude and character of
society to hate those who wrong them and rid their hearts of trust afterwards. When comparing
and contrasting the character of Gimpel and the character of society today, the intent and full
meaning of the short story, Gimpel the Fool, is shown to the readers. Gimpel is portrayed as
someone who is easily misled and would believe most anything told to him. In this story, Isaac
Bashevis Singer is revealing the vindictive hearts and attitudes of people by showing us the
forgiving heart of Gimpel the Fool. The reward and happiness Gimpel receives in return for... Show

One of the major contrasts between the two is seen in the concept of revenge and forgiveness. It
is the nature of someone in society to repay evil for evil. It was once said, An eye for eye only
ends up making the whole world blind (Hall, Karyn). The struggle with revenge is centuries old.
Shakespeare said, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you
poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge? Shakespeare clearly thought
revenge was as normal and predictable as the sun rising (Hall, Karyn). Gimple s character differs
greatly from this vengeful human nature. He forgave easily and accepted the fact that people
are entitled to mistakes. An example of this is found when Gimple and Elka were separated.
Gimpel had found her lying with another man and the Rabbi separated them until a divorce
could be arranged. While Gimple was alone and was pondering upon this predicament, he said to
himself, There is bound to be a slip sometimes. You cannot live without errors. Probably that lad
who was with her led her on and gave her presents and what not, and women are often long on
hair and short on sense, and so he got around her (singer, Isaac). Gimpel chose to be forgiving,
instead of seeking revenge. This is far from the natural reply of mankind. Singer reveals the need
for forgiveness by showing this immense contrast

Holocaust, six million Jewish people got murdered by Nazis. Men, women, and even children died.
I want to discuss this event in history. But there are also other events in history that are like The

Mcdonald s A Competitive Advantage
SYNOPSIS
In the United States, the fast food market provides consumers quick meals at a reasonable cost. It
has grown significantly in recent years with an 8.7% average annual growth rate throughout the
1980 s. The concept of the industry, providing healthy alternatives to traditional fast food and being
environmentally sound is the latest example how consumers affect the industry. The companies
must be able to change very quickly in order to meet these customer demands and the changing
environment while still conforming to its strategy. For an example, consider McDonald s
Corporation; it is a company that has been able to remain true to its philosophy and still be able to
adapt to the market situation. The resources and capabilities the company has assembled has
allowed it to be a consistent top performer even in a market that is competitive. This paper discusses
several capabilities and resources that provided McDonald s a competitive advantage: food
innovations, customer satisfaction, regulatory standards, intensive training program, quality
products, franchisee relationships, and supplier relations. By applying the VRIO theory to the
information discovered in the case, it was determined that the resources and capabilities that
McDonald s possessed in the 1990 s allowed it to gain a sustainable competitive advantage which
lead to industry success throughout the years.

The Types of Cosmetic Surgery and How They Are Affected by Body Image
Studies have shown that, 14.6 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures were performed in
2012. As cosmetic economic indicators such as auto, retail, and home sales saw gains in 2012
so too did plastic surgery (www.plasticsurgery.org). This statistic has proved that across the
United States people are being affected with the opinion and views formed based off of Body
Image. Throughout the years, the ideas of body image have changed based off of people s
personal desires on what they should look like or on trend . Women, children, and even men
base their body image on what society believes is ideal. In some years, society might believe that
a small waist and a thin frame might be the perfect body image. In others, the curvier frame would
be the ideal body image. People have gone down the path of cosmetic surgery in order to meet their
needs and desires for what they believe are the perfect body . The types of plastic surgery that are
being performed correlate directly to the ideas of what body image is supposed to look like.
The use of plastic surgery date back to 2,000 B.C. where Egyptians and Indians would practice on
warriors injured from battle in order to fix their wounded faces. In India and Egypt, ancient
physicians practiced some of the most rudimentary forms of plastic surgery (Janelle). With the

Comparing Duchess Of Malfi And Midsummer Night s Dream
In the plays, The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster and Midsummer Night s Dream by William
Shakespeare, the main female characters can be put together from either story for easy
comparison. The Duchess and Cariola, from The Duchess of Malfi, can be compared to Hermia
and Helena, from a Midsummer Night s Dream, respectively as they serve as foils, even though
they appear in different plays. The reaction they have towards authority creates this comparison as
they act similarly to each other when it turns against them. The Duchess and Hermia, both devious
and defiant, attempts to escape their problems, as others treat Cariola and Helena poorly and cannot
deal with the problems when times get tough.
The Duchess and Hermia are torn away from their new lovers, and they both take similar action to

The Removalists Essay
Australian dramas, such as David Williamson s The Removalists , inclination to depend on
stereotypes is not a weakness, but instead an opportunity to explore personal and societal issues.
The inclusion of stereotypes within the play does not hinder the exploration of these issues, but
instead deepens the audiences understanding and awareness. Through familiar roles, such as the
Oker identity, Williamson heightens the play, and allows a production to focus on the themes being
explored. By using stereotyped characters in contrast with realistic characters and style, Williamson
effectively comment on the faults of society without the distraction of character complexity.

In this scene we tended to speak loudly, often finding ourselves shouting and making rude
innuendos and racist comments. As we workshopped the scene further, we discussed how this was
a representation of the Australian society that we had seen in the media. It could be concluded from
my workshop, that in a production of The Removalists this familiarity of character was an
opportunity, as it allows the faults within the stereotype to dominate.
As well as emphasise on the faults within the stereotype, the use of recognisable characters in a
production of The Removalists allows for an effective comment on the faults within Australian
society. Through the use of stereotyped characters, the play provides a deeper insight into the
serious personal and societal issues within the Australian community, without the distraction of
character complexity. These themes, which are explored through stereotypes, are violence, abuse of
authority, and sexism and sexuality.
The underlying messages that Australia is an inherently violent society, and that the Australian
male uses violence to resolve their problems is shown in The Removalists through the Oker identity
of Simmonds and Kenny. Stereotypes creating deeper understanding of the themes when staging
this production are presented immediately by Kenny s recognisable personality, which allows the
audience to easily accept that Kenny would abuse his wife

down in past and present time; vonTrier cast Charlotte Gainsbourg as Joe in real time, in her
middle aged years. Stacy Martin plays the role of Joe in past scenes during her adolescence and
young adulthood. The storyline is told through a middle aged Joe s life narrative; It begins with
her lying beaten in the street, she is found and taken in by a stranger named Seligman, played by
Stellan SkarsgГҐrd. Seligman is a recluse, shut off from the outside world; he is an asexual scholar
who lives vicariously through the synthetic knowledge he s acquired through literature. Because of
this, he is curious about the story behind Joe s current state. Joe explains to him that she is a bad
human being and deserving of the abuse she has received. Seligman

Sexual Harassment History And The Legality Of The Court...
Module One Paper One Case Studies Student: Evan Lewis Instructor: Troy W. Harter MBA

explain. I understand that Gannon University has a documented sexual harassment history and the
legality of the court decision I agree with. The facts are simple as it relates to our laws. The court
understands that there is abuse in the workplace, but focusing on ministerial exceptions with the
use of the First Amendment at times can shield a organization such as this. The courts found that
the exception does not apply to employment decisions concerning individuals with administrative
functions. In this case the chaplain had a position that was a... Show more content on

Given the power that religious organizations have under Title VI I, how do you think
employment discrimination concerns can be addressed in the religious workplace? I feel
employment discrimination concerns can be addressed quite simply in the religious workplace
by implementing an organizational policy addressing ministerial exceptions and first amendment
rights in relation to respecting an establishment of religion with state. Through ongoing training
with staff covering religious rights in the workplace I would give detail and clear guidance on
how to notify individuals and supervisor to make a discrimination complaint without retaliation.
Case Questions 1 3, page 101 1. After being sued but before trial, why do you think that the
agency promoted a larger percentage of Blacks than whites when a large percentage of whites
actually pass the exam? This type of situation is somewhat common in the workplace. In this case
it caused the black employees who had been promoted provisionally to supervisors pending a
passing score on a written examination that had been given to all potential candidates. I agree with
the findings that there has been a desperate impact in the number of Blacks passing the test at 68%.

Ethnographic Research on Victoria s Secret and Target The purpose of this paper was to observe
the consumers of a retail store of my choice; I chose to observe Victoria s Secret and Targets
consumers, because I myself am consumers of those stores quite often, then to analyze the
behavior of the consumers of Victoria s Secret and Target. Victoria s Secret and Target consumers
differ because of the difference in type of retail they offer and sell. Victoria s Secret consumers
know what they are going to be shopping for women and certain needs or wants they are looking
to satisfy. Target consumers shop for any age and any gender,... Show more content on

One consumer who was around the age of 45 spent about 15 minutes looking through body mists
and perfumes, between box sets of the 60 mL mists/perfumes to the 250 mL mists/perfumes. I
found that many consumers who were with more than one person did complain about prices. They
made comments about how they can get the same item at Target or Wal Mart for a lower price.
Those who were out shopping for Christmas presents I found complained more, as if they were
hoping for a special deal due to the holiday. One customer I overheard stated, she is crazy to think I
am going to spend $50 on one pair of yoga pants, I ll go to Target and get a pair for $20 instead. I
did not hear many consumers ask about prices, Victoria s Secret tags every product with a price, so
consumers are aware of the price as they browse. I decided to tag along with Lesnick and observe
what kind of questions she was asked, or how she was treated when she would approach a
customer. The retail staff was very friendly, and helpful. I did observe that many consumers were
annoyed of this; I witnessed one customer who was approached by six sales associates. She finally
threw her hands up and said, I really am okay, no I do not need any help picking out underwear for
myself, and no I do not need a basket, and yes I have already read the signs saying Buy on bra get
the other 50% off, and she walked to the register very angry. Lesnick was approached by several
consumers who asked for

Differences And Effectiveness Of Prescriptive Grammar In...
English is taught with specific rules such as: sentence structures, proper formatting, proper
words, and improper words. The set a rules and a language has and the way it should be used is
known as prescriptive grammar and is taught in this manner because it allows people to be
understood clearly in their writings and speeches. The opposite of prescriptive grammar is
known as descriptive grammar and is concerned with how a language is used. Bill Bryson, a
novelists on English, history, and science describes the difference and usefulness of prescriptive
grammar and descriptive grammar in his article titled, Good English and Bad . Prescriptive
grammar is important to learn because it has specific rules we follow; therefore, we are able to
communicate ideas, news, and information in a universal english language that is understood by
everyone. The education I received for English was not advanced; however, it did teach me the
importance of standardized writing to show meaning. At a young age, I was told there was a
proper way to write and speak English. I was taught the many rules such as: the difference between
singular verbs, pluralverbs, may, can, well good and when to properly use them. Prescriptive
grammar rules seemed meaningless when I first learned them; however, as I grew older I
realized the importance of properly speaking or writing English. I discovered, when I applied
prescriptive grammar my thoughts and intentions became more clear. For example, may I use
the restroom is used to indicate I want to be excused from a situation so I take care of my body.
When I say, can I use the restroom it implies something is either wrong with the restroom or
something is wrong with my body. It is awkward that one word is capable of affecting a sentence
so greatly; however, according to descriptive grammar a person will be able to understand my
intentions regardless of which sentence I use. My point is not that we should ignore descriptive
grammar, but we should all learn grammar with specific rules so we are able to derive a greater
meaning. If everyone is taught English in a particular way with specific rules then there would be
less misinterpretations and we would be able to explain ourselves

Race To The Polar Sea
Book Arrangement: Race to the Polar Sea has an obscurely intricate design complete with three
parts, individually asunder by roughly ten chapters. Including 38 chapters may seem substantial
and futile, but after having read Ken McGoogan s thrilling, but informative, narrative recounting
all the miniscule yet meaningful details of Elisha Kent Kane s life, the reader realizes all 361
pages are eminently imperative. Part I commences with a bit of a biography over the main
character in the book, Elisha Kent Kane. Subsequently after comes Part II, the longest of the three
parts, which delineates Kane s gallant and portentous journey to save Sir John Franklin. Part III
provides a brief synapses into Elisha Kane s life after pursuing, ultimately unsuccessfully, Sir John
Franklin and his deceased crew. Ensuing Part III comes a plethora of resources useful if the... Show

Politicians constantly disagree and dispute whether or not it is in America s best interest to
extricate American citizens who have been taken prisoner in the Middle East: we all know they
are truly speaking of their own personal best interests and debating how the American populous
would react to such a decision. After reading Race to the Polar Sea, specifically Part III, the
reader is able to recognize Dr. Elisha Kane confounded the world with his infamous rescue
mission, and the people of this country loved it. Audience Ken McGoogan clearly intends to
attract an intellectually advanced, insightful reader with an adoration for adventure: in addition to
being engrossed in American history, the quintessential reader of Race to the Polar Sea needs to
be exceedingly astute and well read. Someone lacking a formal education would not be the
felicitous reader of this book, as McGoogan uses an avant garde style syntax, which, when coupled
with his sophisticated and urbane diction make this book a difficult read.

Exercise Increases The Intelligence Of Humans
Now a days everywhere you go people are idolizing human fitness and exercise. The majority of
this generation eats right, lifts right and obsesses over their image. The average person is going to
strive for a great body, and great intelligence. But who ever said you can have both a great healthy
body and intelligence? I do, the human brainis the most complex and unique organ in the body.
Some even consider it a muscle. Similar to muscles, your brain can be trained and worked for
better functionality. There is a direct connection between exercising and increased intelligence in
humans. In this paper I will be backing up my claim that exercise increases the intelligence of
humans. By exercise I mean aerobic physical activity. Physical activity is better known as cardio, it
is when your body requires pumping of oxygenated blood by the heart to deliver oxygen to working
muscles. By intelligence I mean cognitive ability, memorization and academic achievement.
Humans, meaning the entire general population, not a specific sample of the population. I will also
being offering a counter argument, stating that intelligence does not increase human intelligence.
Then, I will be evaluating the two claims, applying reason, and utilizing the four tests of an
argument and taking advantage of my critical thinking skills to validate my claim. Lastly, I will be
concluding and synthesizing my argument. A study done by Kaycee M. Sink, M.D., M.A.S., of

The Effects Of Emotional Stress On The People Of Haiti Essay
The migration of a population displaced by a natural disaster such as the occurrence of the
magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit the people of Haiti did introduce mortality rates due to unhealthy
and unsanitary conditions the refugees lived under in camps. The overcrowded living conditions
facilitated a quadrupled spread and transmission of infectious disease such as cholerabacteria
inflicting diarrhea. These infections are easily spread through contaminated water. Emotional stress
which has a great impact on the physical as well as the mental health of the population quickly
degraded the body immune system. Inadequate quantities and qualities of water to sustain health
and personal hygiene, poor environmental sanitation and insufficient shelter are all factors that
made cholera more potent. An infectious disease like cholera thrives best in a malnutrition host
with no access to health care. However, it would be appropriate to educate the people about the
bacteria involved hence the need to highlight on the origin (primary) of the bacteria causing
cholera. The secondary transmission route would also be enumerated and the impact they both
have on the people. The ways in which the spread of the infection could be reduced would further
be elaborated. The center for disease control and prevention (CDC) was quick to report that the
strain of cholera that was spreading could have originated in the south eastern Asia. A handful of
activists blame the outbreak on Haiti s substandard

Mildred Taylor Research Paper
On September 13, 1943, Mildred D. Taylor was born in Jackson Mississippi to Wilbert Lee and
Deletha Marie (Davis) Taylor. She was born in the south but she didn t stay there very long. When
Mildred was born, her father boarded a train to Ohio hoping to find work and establish a home.
Within a week he found a decent job and brought his entire familyto the north, not wanting to
continue to live in a racially divided land. The family ended up moving to Toledo, which was a
newly unified town. Although Mildred did not grow up in the south she came to know it
through the many stories her father told her and the yearly trips the family took to Mississippi.
A majority of the stories in her novels are inspired by the ones her father had told her when she
was younger. When she was a young girl, Mildred Taylor grew up beginning to realize there was
little to no black knowledge in society. Mildred attended the University of Toledo and when she
was nineteen she wrote her first novel titled Dark People,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

earn a Master of Arts degree in Journalism. While attending school she joined a group of
university officials and fellow pupils in composing a Black Studies program to gain more
knowledge about African American history. In 1971 Mildred moved to Los Angeles to write
and supported herself with temporary work in proofreading and editing. In 1972 she married
Errol Zea Daly, but divorced three years later. Taylor entered a contest in 1973, it was her book,
Song of the Trees that won first prize in the African American Category. This was later published
in 1975 by Dial Books and listed under The New York Times Outstanding Books of the Year. These
outstanding novels and awards were only the first of many successful accomplishments to

  • 2. Reflection Paper On Extroverts Reflection: The topic of introverts should not be compelled into acting as if they are extroverts that was presented by Susan Cain in her TED talk really connects to me because I personally identify myself as an introvert. Similar to Susan Cain, I would describe myself as reserved, mellow and comfortable with being alone. I enjoy being by myself and listening to music while getting deep into the thoughts in my head. I don t really like getting small casual conversations with strangers and I get emotionally drained with being in a large group of people. These are some of the things that my little introverted self likes to do. But being quiet and not outgoing is not the most desirable thing to do, as this is true for my family, friends and the society. Throughout my life, I have been forced into thinking that if I don t get out there and approach people, be as outgoing as I possibly could, I will never be successful in life and have others appreciate me. In a way, it seem like everyone and everything around me is trying to force me to be something that I m not, which is being an extrovert. This is the same for society as well. Society expects everyone, especially those who are introverted to be gregarious and make a statement or act like an extrovert. Society makes it seem that if we don t be in a certain way, in this case being like an extrovert, no one will get anywhere in their lives, or we can t have it all . This concept is heavily used in companies and in the business world. When companies look for potential employees, they tend to look for those who are outgoing and cordial because they think that they will represent the company well. Often times these companies won t choose those who seem introverted because they think that they are too soft spoken to represent them in a way that these companies want them to. We often think that those who are outgoing and sociable are the ones who make great leaders. But in fact, introverts are the ones that make better leaders because they are more likely to have their fellow members to come up with their own ideas. Examples of great leaders in the world who were introverts are Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Rosa Parks. While extroverts may not let others form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cafe Europ Life After Communism Essay The 20th century in Europe was filled with war and revolution along with political and economical change. The destruction caused by World War II remained prominent in eastern European countries even years after the war ended in 1945. For years the Soviet Union fought for communism while NATO did everything they could to prevent it. Although communismslowly released its grip on the eastern European countries in the late 20th century, western countries still looked down upon these ex communistic states. After reading the memoir CafГ© Europa: Life After Communism. by Slavenka Drakulic, one can infer that not only were the people of Eastern Europe a bit eager to assimilate and conform to Western culture but also there was a sense of dominance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Drakulic talked about in her memoir, even traveling was made more difficult for eastern Europeans by the people living in western Europe, who made it seem like people from eastern Europe should not be trusted (Slavenka Drakulic, 19). I smiled at an officer and was immediately selected for a luggage search (Slavenka Drakulic, 17). It is almost like no matter how nice an individual may seem or be, Western Europeans were always on defense, thinking only negatively. This makes it extremely evident that although the Eastern countries are no longer under communist regime and European countries as a whole could easily live peacefully amongst each other, there is still a major division between the east and west (Slavenka Drakulic, 21). People in ex communist countries tried their hardest to fit in with the western European countries. There were many cafГ©s and hotels made with names such as Vienna, in efforts to try and seem like they have some sort of connection with these western countries. Simply by using such a name, you are presenting not only an image, but a whole system of values, too (Slavenka Drakulic, 9). GPS Safety Bubble Technology Essay Although Global Positioning technology has existed since the mid 1970 s, some of the most significant advancements have taken place within the last five years. In recent months, studies have been conducted by NASA and other institutions concerning the use of advanced GPS technology in both computer controlled flight of commercial aircraft and the establishment of no fly safety bubbles around designated areas and buildings. In essence an aircraft s computer system would override a manual command and not allow the craft to enter these designated areas. There are many possible benefits of this technology, but with any new advancement also comes ethical questions. While some believe this technology will increase air travel safety, others... During the first years of the GPS development the general public could access the satellites, but could only realize positioning precision to about 350 feet of actual position. This was due to a Selective Availability policy that was put in place by the U.S. government to insure that the military would have superior navigational capabilities to the public. This changed however in May, 2000 when the government decided that these limitations were no longer necessary. Today it is possible, with the proper equipment, for anyone in the world to determine his or her precise location to within about 60 feet. All though the information is classified, it is rumored that today, using the most sophisticated GPS technology, the military can achieve precision within 1 foot of actual position. The current Global Positioning System is a group of satellites, known as a constellation, which continually broadcast both their exact locations in space and the exact time. By tracking the signals from at least four of these satellites, a GPS receiver on earth can determine its current latitude, longitude and altitude. Some GPS receivers can also report the current time, direction of travel and the rate of distance traveled. This is all possible because both the GPS receiver and the Satellite count time on an atomic clock. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Meditations outlines Descartes method of justifying, through reasoning alone, his initial beliefs concerning the existence of reality as he perceives it. This challenge of scepticism is itself achieved through adopting a temporary sceptical approach in meditations 1 and 2. By way of mental deconstruction and evaluation of all that he had previously considered true, Descartes is left with only the elements that he is able to ascertain are certain and indubitable . He first asserts our apparent inability to distrust our senses in distinguishing reality from illusion. This process forms the foundations from which he may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first meditation, through providing three arguments (waves) as to the nature of our inability to distinguish reality from illusion, Descartes makes a convincing argument as to why we would, prior to his reasoned proof of existence of God, disregard all a posteriroi knowledge as a viable source of information abou the world. In the first wave Descartes questions the legitammacy of the information provided by the senses. He provides the example of the way in which our sense of perspective funtions, stating senses occasionally decieve us about things that are veru small or very far away , to call into question that which we so often rely on to provide us with an accurate account of reality . Descartes method demands that if reason is to doubt a foundation then all knowledge based on that foundation should be rejected; of the senses he articulates having occcasionlly found that they decieved [him] following with the statement that it is prudent never to trust those who have decieved us . • 6. Art Movement After World War I According to the Visual Art Encyclopedia, Surrealism sprang up in Paris and became rooted in the avant garde art world. Surrealism was the fashionable art movement after World War I. Surrealism is and the last major art movement to be associated with the Ecole de Paris. The writer Andre Breton (1896 1966), nicknamed the Pope of Surrealism , was the movement s founder and chief theorist. He introduced and defined the new style in his initial 1924 manifesto (Manifeste du Surrealisme) and later in his painting bulletin (Surrealisme et la Peinture). Breton deplored the radical and destructive character of Dada, nevertheless he built on many Dada ideas to create a movement with a coherent though unbending philosophy. He aimed at nothing less than a total conversion of the way people thought. Surrealism was less overtly political and advocated a more positive philosophy. The main focus of the surrealism movement was literature but this rapidly broadened to painting, sculpture and other forms of contemporary visual art. Surrealist strived to bring forward the imagery of the unconscious mind. Surrealist philosophy believed that nongovernmental and irrational art were preferable for life and civilization. Surrealism was responsible for a host of incredibly innovative but strange art. Surrealism was meant to free the unconscious mind from reason. He also uses these characters to illustrate that Socratic discussion not oratory is the only legitimate philosophical path of finding the truth way to discovering the truth. Platodoes this by orchestrating the debate between Polus and Socratesand later showing that Socrates developed the idea of happiness in his last refutation. In the beginning of the book, Plato orchestrates banter between Chaerephon and Polus to illustrate his opinions on oratory and show that careful speechmaking often avoids the question instead of directly searching for the truth. Plato utilized Polus to show that orators are never subject to any deeper thought because they are not questioned by others with different schools of thought. He, however, uses Socrates to exemplify that a true philosopher utilizes discussion to deepen his own thoughts. Polus had a view on happiness as a feeling in the moment, which is only analyzing happiness surface level. This led him to believe that tyrants such as the Great King are happy despite the injustices they commit (471 a 471 d). However, Socrates views true happiness as a state of being in which one receives a favorable judgement in the afterlife (525 a 525d). Their discussion shows that the comparisons of both their beliefs and a development of the idea of happiness could not have been brought to light without Socratic discussion. Plato shows that all parties benefit from Socratic discussion in developing philosophical thought because Socrates did not mention punishment in any of his previous refutations until Polus brought the idea to light. This ultimately shows that Socratic discussion is the only way to discover the truth because it instigates a conversation between different schools of thought. The idea of punishment influencing happiness is developed in Socrates last refutation, showing how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Left neglect, otherwise known as Hemispatial neglect, develops after a stroke or brain damage to the right side of the brain. Left neglect is a neuropsychological condition that causes an attention deficit to the awareness of the left side of space. A person with left neglect has difficulty processing and perceiving stimuli on the left side of their body. It can affect a person s visual perception where they are unable to see things or interpret them on the left side of them. Typically a person with left neglect forgets that their left side exists. Someone who suffers from left neglect may not be able to dress themselves on their left side; they may not eat the food on the left side of their plate, or be able to read a left side of a book. It can cause issues with their mobility where they are unaware of their left extremities, which can lead to problems in walking or any task using bilateral coordination or skills. Sarah, the main character in the novel, had a very busy, fulfilling life before her accident. She worked as a human resources consultant at a very large company. Soon after, the driver swerved the school bus and entered into another lane crashing into another bus and toppled over, killing two children and one adult (Murdock). Phone addiction is a new addiction associated with the use of cell phones and using it for many hours. In recent times, the falling prices of mobile phones have led to the affordability of the devices with more people owning a mobile phone, especially smartphones. Studies continue to establish whether phone addiction affects people, how it affects them and the different ways it affects different genders and ages. An international poll of 5,000 Britons, Americans, Chinese, South Koreans, South Africans, Indians, Brazilians, and Indonesians found that most people spent hours on their smartphones (Gilbert). 84% respondents revealed that it is impossible for them to spend a day without their smartphones, with 50% sleeping with their phones next to them like a teddy bear (Gilbert). Over 20% check their smart phones every ten minutes, with 24% using it to set up rendezvous meetings with those they were having affairs with (Gilbert). Based solely on the difference between the descriptions of the topic (circumcision vs. mutilation), it is easy to see there is conflict of opinions about the ethics surrounding the practice. While male circumcision is often easily accepted in modern day society, female circumcision is not. The common stereotype is that female circumcision is performed as a male dominance practice (Vestbostad Blystad, 2014), however, there are many alternate traditions surrounding the practice. Achilles is a hero because he goes through many of the steps necessary in the path to becoming a hero. The first set of major steps that Achillesundergoes is the call to adventure, the refusal to the call to action, and the meeting with the mentor. In Book 1 of the Iliad, Achilles is called to fight against the Trojan s to reclaim Helen, Menelaus wife. Later in the war, Chryseis and Briseis are taken as prizes from a battle. They are the daughters of a priest of Apollo named Chryses. After Chryses begs for his daughters back, the Greeks decide to give Briseis to him and have Chryseis stay. Chryseis belonged to Achilles as his prize from the battle and Briseis belonged to Agamemnon, a political leader of the Greeks. Agamemnon then humiliate Achilles by taking Chryseis Achilles s prize, for himself. This angered Achilles greatly and caused him to leave the Greek army, albeit temporary. This serves as Achilles refusal to the call of battle. Achilles s anger is shown in Book 1 lines 188 to 192, these lines show how much Achilles s pride affects his actions and how he responds to conflict. The Pros And Cons Of British Education Policies Trowler (2003) describes education policy as a design to follow the principles and procedures relating to education issues, the specifications of which is to bring about the desired goals. However, Ball (1990) defines educational policy as not only a direct response, but also a respond to the formation of complex and diverse elements. Many policies begin at the macro level, with large organisations such as The World Bank, UNESCO and the United Nations. The policy then streams down to a national level, which then filters further down into regional and local levels. Bell and Stevensons (xxxx) point out that most educational policies start with the central government, which then transfers onto local councils and schools. This then has a considerable... All of these reforms have different policies, which a different government brings in every time and it is elected into power. They bring their own political agendas to alter the education system. Despite all the previous policies, there are some that have their advantages and disadvantages but the major shift happened in between 1980 1990 (Ball, 1990). Britain s education system became increasingly politicised during this time. Ball (1990:3) describes this period as Thatcherism . Margaret Thatcher s Conservative government brought a lot of changes in the education system, including parents choice in selecting schools for their children, the national curriculum, national assessment and school self sufficiency. The main reason for introducing the national curriculum was due to the failing teachers and this lead to a failing country (Trowler, 1993:100). Whitty (2016:27) describes Margaret Thatcher s Conservative government restructure as a marketising approach to the reform of the school system . Similaly, Machin (CEE DP 57) refers to this as being market mechanisms . These reforms were designed to improve pupil s achievement and the achievement rate did improve. However, this raised concerns about increased inequality in our school systems. Different policies have different implications, as mentioned above. The Conservative government s policy between the years 1980 to 1990 had achieved its target, but its implications left a huge gap of inequality in our school system. In The War Prayer Twain argues against the philosophy of imperialism. This essay was written in 1900 s when America was caught up in the idea of imperialism and extending its influence to other countries using military prowess. He reveals that praying for success in war is also praying for the defeat of another nation. He questions what exactly the people are praying for. Even though it appears that the people are praying for the safety of their soldiers, in the end it can be concluded that they are praying for destruction of another civilization. But the argument does not stop here: the last line of the essay says, It was believed afterward that the man was a lunatic, because there was no sense in what he said (Twain, 682). • 24. How Shakespeare Changed Over Time Why did people centuries ago use thee and thou and ye when the word you works for all? Why did people say, let us go presently (Shakespeare) and mean let us go immediately? Because the English language changes, like every other living language. Words are always changing, making it quite interesting, and a bit confusing, to read books written a long time ago. Reading Shakespeare s plays can make someone aware of this change. Due to these changes in English since Shakespeare s time, reading it today occasionally causes confusion, mainly because of words that have changed meaning over the centuries, archaic language, and stories or sayings no longer in use today. Any living language will have words that change meaning over time, and proving this is not too difficult. In Elizabethan English, fantastical meant hideous or unusual (Shakespeare pg. 41), and nice meant unintelligent (Smith). These may seem quite unusual, but sometimes an answer can be found to how the word changed. Fathom used to mean to encircle one s arms (Smith). From that, a fathom became a measurement the length of someone s arm used for measuring the depth of a lake or sea. After years, fathom also came to mean understanding something deeply. It is the nature of someone in society to repay evil for evil. It was once said, An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind (Hall, Karyn). The struggle with revenge is centuries old. Shakespeare said, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge? Shakespeare clearly thought revenge was as normal and predictable as the sun rising (Hall, Karyn). Gimple s character differs greatly from this vengeful human nature. He forgave easily and accepted the fact that people are entitled to mistakes. An example of this is found when Gimple and Elka were separated. Gimpel had found her lying with another man and the Rabbi separated them until a divorce could be arranged. While Gimple was alone and was pondering upon this predicament, he said to himself, There is bound to be a slip sometimes. You cannot live without errors. Probably that lad who was with her led her on and gave her presents and what not, and women are often long on hair and short on sense, and so he got around her (singer, Isaac). Gimpel chose to be forgiving, instead of seeking revenge. This is far from the natural reply of mankind. Singer reveals the need for forgiveness by showing this immense contrast ... Comparing Duchess Of Malfi And Midsummer Night s Dream In the plays, The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster and Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, the main female characters can be put together from either story for easy comparison. The Duchess and Cariola, from The Duchess of Malfi, can be compared to Hermia and Helena, from a Midsummer Night s Dream, respectively as they serve as foils, even though they appear in different plays. The reaction they have towards authority creates this comparison as they act similarly to each other when it turns against them. The Duchess and Hermia, both devious and defiant, attempts to escape their problems, as others treat Cariola and Helena poorly and cannot deal with the problems when times get tough. The Duchess and Hermia are torn away from their new lovers, and they both take similar action to resolve their problems. Widowed in early age, the Duchess, a strong willed, loving wife and mother, loses her bond in love but quickly finds love again. She finds Antonio, but her brothers demand her not to continue; therefore she runs away. Hermia, a passionate woman with a strong will to love the one she cannot, gets restricted from love due to her father s strong will and law. The Duchess, in secret, does what she wants with Antonio by hastily marrying him, and having three children. Hermia, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 37. The Removalists Essay Australian dramas, such as David Williamson s The Removalists , inclination to depend on stereotypes is not a weakness, but instead an opportunity to explore personal and societal issues. The inclusion of stereotypes within the play does not hinder the exploration of these issues, but instead deepens the audiences understanding and awareness. Through familiar roles, such as the Oker identity, Williamson heightens the play, and allows a production to focus on the themes being explored. By using stereotyped characters in contrast with realistic characters and style, Williamson effectively comment on the faults of society without the distraction of character complexity. The Oker character is used by Williamson as a tool to allow the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this scene we tended to speak loudly, often finding ourselves shouting and making rude innuendos and racist comments. As we workshopped the scene further, we discussed how this was a representation of the Australian society that we had seen in the media. It could be concluded from my workshop, that in a production of The Removalists this familiarity of character was an opportunity, as it allows the faults within the stereotype to dominate. As well as emphasise on the faults within the stereotype, the use of recognisable characters in a production of The Removalists allows for an effective comment on the faults within Australian society. Through the use of stereotyped characters, the play provides a deeper insight into the serious personal and societal issues within the Australian community, without the distraction of character complexity. These themes, which are explored through stereotypes, are violence, abuse of authority, and sexism and sexuality. The underlying messages that Australia is an inherently violent society, and that the Australian male uses violence to resolve their problems is shown in The Removalists through the Oker identity of Simmonds and Kenny. Stereotypes creating deeper understanding of the themes when staging this production are presented immediately by Kenny s recognisable personality, which allows the audience to easily accept that Kenny would abuse his wife ... A Disturbing Look At The Insatiable Desires Within Us All Nymphomaniac: a Disturbing Look at the Insatiable Desires Within us All Lars von Trier has made many shocking films that most people find inappropriate and vulgar. The films Nymphomaniac Volumes I and II by Lars Von Trier are controversial in nature, but behind their harsh surface imagery lies a deep and powerful message that beautifully depicts the insatiable desires and discontent of the human experience. The script of the film follows a young woman named Joe through her life, examining the experiences and consequences of her sex addiction. Joe, is an intelligent beautiful woman, who s main enjoyment in life is sex. She describes a feeling of apathy and bewilderment towards most things. The role of Joe in the film is broken down in past and present time; vonTrier cast Charlotte Gainsbourg as Joe in real time, in her middle aged years. Stacy Martin plays the role of Joe in past scenes during her adolescence and young adulthood. The storyline is told through a middle aged Joe s life narrative; It begins with her lying beaten in the street, she is found and taken in by a stranger named Seligman, played by Stellan SkarsgГҐrd. Seligman is a recluse, shut off from the outside world; he is an asexual scholar who lives vicariously through the synthetic knowledge he s acquired through literature. Because of this, he is curious about the story behind Joe s current state. Joe explains to him that she is a bad human being and deserving of the abuse she has received. Seligman ... I understand that Gannon University has a documented sexual harassment history and the legality of the court decision I agree with. The facts are simple as it relates to our laws. The court understands that there is abuse in the workplace, but focusing on ministerial exceptions with the use of the First Amendment at times can shield a organization such as this. The courts found that the exception does not apply to employment decisions concerning individuals with administrative functions. In this case the chaplain had a position that was a... Given the power that religious organizations have under Title VI I, how do you think employment discrimination concerns can be addressed in the religious workplace? I feel employment discrimination concerns can be addressed quite simply in the religious workplace by implementing an organizational policy addressing ministerial exceptions and first amendment rights in relation to respecting an establishment of religion with state. Through ongoing training with staff covering religious rights in the workplace I would give detail and clear guidance on how to notify individuals and supervisor to make a discrimination complaint without retaliation. Case Questions 1 3, page 101 1. After being sued but before trial, why do you think that the agency promoted a larger percentage of Blacks than whites when a large percentage of whites actually pass the exam? This type of situation is somewhat common in the workplace. In this case it caused the black employees who had been promoted provisionally to supervisors pending a passing score on a written examination that had been given to all potential candidates. I agree with the findings that there has been a desperate impact in the number of Blacks passing the test at 68%. Ethnographic Research on Victoria s Secret and Target Kayla **** BUS 3350 Kent ****** December 3, 2012 Ethnographic Research on Victoria s Secret and Target The purpose of this paper was to observe the consumers of a retail store of my choice; I chose to observe Victoria s Secret and Targets consumers, because I myself am consumers of those stores quite often, then to analyze the behavior of the consumers of Victoria s Secret and Target. Victoria s Secret and Target consumers differ because of the difference in type of retail they offer and sell. One consumer who was around the age of 45 spent about 15 minutes looking through body mists and perfumes, between box sets of the 60 mL mists/perfumes to the 250 mL mists/perfumes. I found that many consumers who were with more than one person did complain about prices. They made comments about how they can get the same item at Target or Wal Mart for a lower price. Those who were out shopping for Christmas presents I found complained more, as if they were hoping for a special deal due to the holiday. One customer I overheard stated, she is crazy to think I am going to spend $50 on one pair of yoga pants, I ll go to Target and get a pair for $20 instead. I did not hear many consumers ask about prices, Victoria s Secret tags every product with a price, so consumers are aware of the price as they browse. I decided to tag along with Lesnick and observe what kind of questions she was asked, or how she was treated when she would approach a customer. The retail staff was very friendly, and helpful. I did observe that many consumers were annoyed of this; I witnessed one customer who was approached by six sales associates. She finally threw her hands up and said, I really am okay, no I do not need any help picking out underwear for myself, and no I do not need a basket, and yes I have already read the signs saying Buy on bra get the other 50% off, and she walked to the register very angry. • 42. Differences And Effectiveness Of Prescriptive Grammar In... English is taught with specific rules such as: sentence structures, proper formatting, proper words, and improper words. The set a rules and a language has and the way it should be used is known as prescriptive grammar and is taught in this manner because it allows people to be understood clearly in their writings and speeches. The opposite of prescriptive grammar is known as descriptive grammar and is concerned with how a language is used. Bill Bryson, a novelists on English, history, and science describes the difference and usefulness of prescriptive grammar and descriptive grammar in his article titled, Good English and Bad . Prescriptive grammar is important to learn because it has specific rules we follow; therefore, we are able to communicate ideas, news, and information in a universal english language that is understood by everyone. The education I received for English was not advanced; however, it did teach me the importance of standardized writing to show meaning. At a young age, I was told there was a proper way to write and speak English. I was taught the many rules such as: the difference between singular verbs, pluralverbs, may, can, well good and when to properly use them. Prescriptive grammar rules seemed meaningless when I first learned them; however, as I grew older I realized the importance of properly speaking or writing English. I discovered, when I applied prescriptive grammar my thoughts and intentions became more clear. For example, may I use the restroom is used to indicate I want to be excused from a situation so I take care of my body. When I say, can I use the restroom it implies something is either wrong with the restroom or something is wrong with my body. It is awkward that one word is capable of affecting a sentence so greatly; however, according to descriptive grammar a person will be able to understand my intentions regardless of which sentence I use. My point is not that we should ignore descriptive grammar, but we should all learn grammar with specific rules so we are able to derive a greater meaning. If everyone is taught English in a particular way with specific rules then there would be less misinterpretations and we would be able to explain ourselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part I commences with a bit of a biography over the main character in the book, Elisha Kent Kane. Subsequently after comes Part II, the longest of the three parts, which delineates Kane s gallant and portentous journey to save Sir John Franklin. The majority of this generation eats right, lifts right and obsesses over their image. The average person is going to strive for a great body, and great intelligence. But who ever said you can have both a great healthy body and intelligence? I do, the human brainis the most complex and unique organ in the body. Some even consider it a muscle. Similar to muscles, your brain can be trained and worked for better functionality. There is a direct connection between exercising and increased intelligence in humans. In this paper I will be backing up my claim that exercise increases the intelligence of humans. By exercise I mean aerobic physical activity. Physical activity is better known as cardio, it is when your body requires pumping of oxygenated blood by the heart to deliver oxygen to working muscles. By intelligence I mean cognitive ability, memorization and academic achievement. Humans, meaning the entire general population, not a specific sample of the population. I will also being offering a counter argument, stating that intelligence does not increase human intelligence. Then, I will be evaluating the two claims, applying reason, and utilizing the four tests of an argument and taking advantage of my critical thinking skills to validate my claim. Lastly, I will be concluding and synthesizing my argument. A study done by Kaycee M. Sink, M.D., M.A.S., of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Effects Of Emotional Stress On The People Of Haiti Essay The migration of a population displaced by a natural disaster such as the occurrence of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit the people of Haiti did introduce mortality rates due to unhealthy and unsanitary conditions the refugees lived under in camps. The overcrowded living conditions facilitated a quadrupled spread and transmission of infectious disease such as cholerabacteria inflicting diarrhea. These infections are easily spread through contaminated water. Emotional stress which has a great impact on the physical as well as the mental health of the population quickly degraded the body immune system. Inadequate quantities and qualities of water to sustain health and personal hygiene, poor environmental sanitation and insufficient shelter are all factors that made cholera more potent. An infectious disease like cholera thrives best in a malnutrition host with no access to health care. However, it would be appropriate to educate the people about the bacteria involved hence the need to highlight on the origin (primary) of the bacteria causing cholera. The secondary transmission route would also be enumerated and the impact they both have on the people. The ways in which the spread of the infection could be reduced would further be elaborated. The center for disease control and prevention (CDC) was quick to report that the strain of cholera that was spreading could have originated in the south eastern Asia. A handful of activists blame the outbreak on Haiti s substandard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
