Anchor Analysis
This article will discuss how to create anchors using various techniques. An anchor is a trigger
that sets off an emotional cascade in you. Anchors can create good emotions and bad emotions.
The principle is one of association. If we associate a certain trigger with a certain emotion then
we are almost sure to get the same response every time. You may have heard of a very famous
experiment by Ivan Pavlov on the emotional conditioning of dogs. If you have not heard of it, I
would suggest that you type it into Google and read about the experiment. This experiment
demonstrated that it was possible to create a predetermined emotional response with a trigger or
anchor (in this case a ringing bell) provided that the subject (the dog) was pre conditioned... Show

Each and every one of us has anchors programmed in us. The problem is that most of us are not
aware that these anchors exist or the effect that they have on us as individuals. Anchors can take
shape in many different forms. They can be anchors based on sight, sound, touch or any other of
the senses. It would be easier to give a specific example. Let us assume that ten years ago you
attended the funeral of an aunt of yours who you loved very much. During the funeral, they burnt
incense as part of the ceremony. You were obviously in a state of high emotional turmoil. You
breathed in the incense with its distinctive smell. Ten years later you pass a shop on your way to
work. You notice that there is something about the shop that makes you feel very low but you can
t figure out exactly what is causing you to feel that way. After all, it is a wonderful day in summer
and you have your vacation to look forward to. Without you consciously realising it, that shop is
actually burning the same brand of incense that was at your aunt s funeral. The smell that you are
taking in is triggering a subconscious reaction to the emotions that you experienced at your aunt s
funeral. Even after ten years, you still experience the same emotions again. The anchor is the smell
of the incense and the outcome is the low mood that you experienced as a

Waiting For Godot Essay
The atomic bomb signaled not only the commencement of the Cold War, but also a political divide

This is established at the beginning of Act 1, through an allusion to Christian philosophy in
Vladimir s dialogue about the fable of the two thieves, where One is supposed to have been
saved and the other damned . In his allusion to the Bible, Beckett emphasises chance being
woven into even the most sacred of texts that supposedly hold the ultimate truth for humanity.
Moreover, in his book Understanding Samuel Beckett (1990), Alan Astro highlights that it is
God s silence that causes the real hopelessness amidst all the comical actions of Beckett s
characters. He suggests, the recourse to bookkeeping by the philosopher (Pascal) no less than
the clownish tramp shows how helpless we are with respect to God s silence . However, while
Beckett s play is concerned with a loss of meaning, it raises a positive message, implying we are
free to give our own lives meaning and purpose, free to redeem our suffering by making
something of it (Kaufmann). While Beckett sees little reason for hope after witnessing the trauma
caused by the very weapons meant to preserve world peace, he is unable to relinquish it entirely.
This is evident in the symbol of the tree. The tree is central to the set design of the play, for the
sprouting of leaves in act 2, metaphorically suggests new life and resolution an image of hope

Why Do Myths Exist
Myths like the loch ness monster and Bigfoot were big stories but no real proven evidence of
their existence. Many investigations were made and a lot of so called evidence to prove that
such myth exist. But there is one thing that most myths don t have and that s government
officials getting involved. If a myth is that serious in order to involve the government, it s got to
be a pretty big myth. Similarly aliens were really never proven to exist until the summer of 1947
on a small ranch outside of Roswell, New Mexico (History pg.1).a Man by the name of Mac
Brazel witnessed a supposed alien crash in his own backyard. This simple phone call to a sheriff s
office turned into a secret government cover up in a matter of minutes (History pg.1). And with

Summary Of C. S Lewis The Last Battle
The Last Battle, by C.S Lewis, begins with a donkey named Puzzle and his ape friend named
Shift. It was decided that Shift shall make all of the decisions since Puzzle is convinced he is not
clever enough. Shift basically has complete control over Puzzle and can manipulate him into
doing anything. While they were walking by the Caldron Pool, they saw a lion s skin in the water.
Shift assures Puzzle to put it on, making him look like Aslan, the king of Narnia. Shift manipulates
the rest of the animals of Narnia into believing that Puzzle is Aslan. Shift uses this opportunity to
get all of Narnia to obey his orders and put himself in complete control. He fools them into serving

Principles Of The International Olympic Committee
Within every business or organization, there must be a set of values and goals that are established
to prove consistency throughout their existence. These values and principles are there for them to
follow and to lay groundwork as to how they should handle everything that encompasses their
organization. In the same way, the International Olympic Committeewas set to provide a charter to
highlight their mission and their principles. While it has become clear that Olympism aims to
promote a joy of effort, the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect
for universal fundamental ethical principles (IOC, 2015, p.13), it has also become evident that they

This in return turns out to be misleading to the investors, but since General Electric is also
sponsoring the Olympics this could cause one to question the true stance on their sponsorship. By
General Electric deviating from SEC rules, it s as if the International Olympic Committee were not
to follow the charter and to be going against their values of following good governance within their
organization.
Considering the above contradiction, a solution would be to get more involved in the governance
of General Electrics. A way to do this would be to have the International Olympic Committees
financial auditors evaluate and monitor General Electric s financial auditors and double check
their work. This would ensure that any wrong doing on General Electric s behalf be taken care of
immediately and with advice from the International Olympic Committee on making the right
decision that will go along with their values. Through this solution, the Olympics don t risk losing
a highly ranked company as a sponsor, but can also aid in reducing irrevocable mistakes.
Furthermore, two other sponsors, Samsung and Panasonic have undergone scandals that contradict
the Olympics values. In November of 2016, Samsung and Panasonic were under investigation for
abusing labor rights. In their supply chains in Malaysia, workers seemed to be deceived regarding
pay and worked long hours with an inadequate amount of rest (Pattison, 2016). As sponsors of the

Violence In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Every author writes a book to depict a lesson or meaning. Things Fall Apart talked about the
various things that cease to exist. There were two main things that fell apart in this book: the
main character Okonkwo and religion. The meaning of this book was to show that life is full of
conflicts and if they are not confronted or solved correctly, something or someone will collapse.
Several scenes of violence were found in this book. These scenes existed to contribute to the
overall meaning of the complete work. One scene of violence made a significant impact to
Okonkwo. It was the day of Ezedu s funeral and guns were fired in the air. At this time, Okonkwo s
gun exploded and a piece of iron pierced through a boy s heart. The boy was one of Ezedu s... Show

This scene contributed to the meaning of the novel by showing how just one act will change
everything. Okonkwo fought to kill the missionaries and defended his clan and their beliefs.
However, he fell into disappointment when he found that no one backed him. Everyone was in
an uproar instead of preparing to fight. Okonkwo saw that Umuofia had changed and felt sorrow.
He found that the men who were once strong and brave were now weak and scared. The clan was
hopeless. The messengers who ran away will possibly come back with more men and Umuofia
will end up like Abame. Finding it pointless to stay in a place in which there was femininity in men
and in which his beliefs were abandoned, Okonkwo killed himself. This scene portrayed not only
the destruction of Okonkwo, but the destruction of the entire clan. The missionaries brought change
and successfully converted some Ibo to Christianity. Eventually, everyone will be Christian because
no one was brave enough to confront the missionaries and defend their religion. Change and the
clash of cultures caused things to fall

Reflecting On Impact Of Iron
Reflecting on impact of Iron
Iron is part of the most found elements in the earth. Around 5.6% of the earth s crust has been
composed of it, and almost the entire core of the earth. In addition, Iron has been discovered about
5000 years ago, and the name comes from the Scandinavian word iarn . [1]
For this essay, my task is to describe the impact of Iron on society. Furthermore, I will research
about the chemical and physical properties of Iron, the obtaining of Iron, and the uses through
history and lastly I will compare the metal with the metals that were used beforehand, and what
impact the discovery had on society. For this essay, my research question is: How has the
discovery of Iron affected the society? In my opinion the discovery of Iron didn t have such a
great affection for the society and how they handled, because the people only changed from bronze
to another like metal. Everything they could do before, could be done with the Iron too. ... Show

Iron is a bright and shiny white metal that is strong, ductile, malleable and soft. The color of the
surface of Iron is regularly affected by corrosion, as it easily rusts because it easily combines with
the oxygen in the air when moisture is present, but in absolute dry air, the Iron doesn t rust. [3]
The metal is ductile, because it can easily be stretched or pulled into a thin line/wire. Iron is
malleable, because it is possible to be bent and shaped. Iron can also be easily magnetized. The
metal is likewise a very good conductor of electricity and heat. [4] At room temperature the metal

Inner Turmoil In Giovanni s Room By James Baldwin
David s Inner Turmoil in Giovanni s Room
When James Baldwin first presented the novel Giovanni s Room to his agent Helen Strauss, she
told him to burn it she feared the novel s open homosexual relationship would be unappealing to
Baldwin s audience and harm the book s success. This negative attitude towards the LGBT+
community made it all the more important for Baldwin to publish his novel, which was
unexpectedly praised for its prose and its honesty (Polchin). Influenced early on by society s
stereotypical views on men and sexuality, David, the main character of Giovanni s Room, develops
a mindset of homosexuality as wrong and impure, despite being a gay man himself. He tries to
reject his sexuality most palpably through a relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

made myself believe it. But I wonder if I had. I was thinking . . . of our nights in bed, of the

acknowledges his conscious efforts to convince himself that he loves Hella, implying that true
love, on some level, must be intuitive and natural. He begins to realize that the love he feels for
her is not real; he only enjoys the socially acceptable relationship that she offers. Their
partnership requires no deeper emotion than pure sexual desire, which is the kind of detached
relationship he craves. Similarly, after meeting Giovanni, David hopes to burn out, through Hella,
[his] image of Giovanni and the reality of his touch (122), yet when walking down Raspail, a
street David has walked with both of them, the face that [glows] insistently before [him is] not her

but David knows subconsciously that he loves Giovanni much more genuinely and intimately. In
referencing the reality of his touch, David acquiesces the authenticity of his love for Giovanni, so

Gender Inequality Is A Prominent Issue Globally
Abigail Yeo Zhi Yi
311
Gender inequality is a prominent issue globally. Gender inequality is defined as unequal
treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Around the world, women are not
treated as equally as men. In 2015, only 50% of the world s working age women were in the labor
force, compared to 77% of working age men.
In this essay, I will be focusing on gender inequality in China and Japan and the causes and effects
of gender inequality in both countries, as well as whether gender inequality will be reduced with
education.
Francis Bacon once said, Knowledge is power. Education is important in reducing gender
inequality for a few main reasons. Firstly, education can empower women. Education, be it
vocational or academic, will give women the ability and skill to work and be useful in society. If a
woman is given vocational education, she will have skills that she can put to use in a job and will
be able to earn money. If a woman is given academic education, she will have greater knowledge
and even be able to take up higher ranking jobs. Secondly, education can change the mindsets of
people about gender inequality. This applies not only for women, but for men too. Education could
help people to realise that women should have the same rights as men and that gender inequality is
wrong. People who receive education could spread awareness about the importance of education for
women and fight for women s rights, narrowing the gender gap. Thirdly,

The Effects Of Exercise On Body s Physical Condition
Exercise has been proven to have a positive effect on our body s physical condition, but what
about our minds? Mental exercise, too, is influential on our bodies to decrease our stress levels.
Though, we know how important it is to do physical exercise and manage stress, yet still 42% of
adults say they are not doing enough to manage their stress mentally (http://www.apa.org/news

our bodies and well being. The simple motivation to exercise, especially under stress, can be
difficult, but the ignorance to not exercise, can ultimately cost you your life.
How does stress affect us?
Stress negatively affects our bodies in a variety ways. Stress is a response our bodies have to a
stimulant. When you watch a scary movie, the reaction to the startling moment is an act of stress.
Though, stress is a normal bodily response, and Americans expect to have a little stress in their
lives, according to APA (define). Though, too much stress is not good for the human body.
When stress is experienced, a hormone called cortisol is released in the body. Cortisol is a stress
hormone that has a great impact on physical and mental health. Researchers have studied cortisol

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Existentialism
Introduction
There are many philosophies that people use in their lives. Some of the ways of thinking are linked
to some prominent people. There is idealism, naturalism, experimentalism, and existentialism
among others. This essay explores existentialism, which has been postulated by Sartre among
others. The other proponents of existentialism include Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, martin Buber,
Martin Heidegger and Martin Buber. The weakness and strengths of existentialism are going to be
discussed in this essay. The main facets of existentialism that are going to be discussed include the
following: authenticity, existence precedes essence, being and nothingness, being in itself, being
for itself and man being condemned to be free. The basic issues discussed by existentialists also
include; anxiety, death, alienation, despair, forlornness, anguish, quietism and abandonment among
other aspects that distinguish existentialism from other philosophies.
Existentialism focuses on the subjective views and experiences on individuals as the sources of
truth and reality for them. Existentialism has its base on how each individual person interprets
the world around him/her. The individual has the freedom to do what he/she wants to do as long
as such a person is liable for the consequences of his/hers. As a result, the individuals dictate his
truth, his reality or what he believes is good or bad. This is against the other philosophies that
relate what is good on laws and rules, norms and mores

Chinese Immigration to Australia During the Gold Rush Essay
Chinese Immigration to Australia During the Gold Rush
Following the success of the American Gold rush, the Australian Gold rush attracted many migrants
from all over the globe. The Chinese prospectors were perhaps the most controversial and the most
interesting nationality to come to the goldfields
Assistance given on arrival
There was more or less no assistance of any kind given to the Chinese migrants, as immigration was
rather a haphazard affair in the 19th century (especially to an isolated young country like Australia)
and the level of racism encountered by Chinese prospectors on arrival made goldmining and
making a living in Australia even harder.
As a people, the Chinese possessed a great sense of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some arrived independent, fleeing the violence of the Taiping Rebellion.
Numbers and Location factors
The rate of Chinese migration alarmed Victorian government officials. According to the 1853
census, there were 2000 Chinese in the colony. At the beginning of 1855, there were 10,000 on the
goldfields. During March 1854, four ships arrived bringing 1,400 Chinese. By June, the numbers
had increased to 17,000.
Approximately 10 years into the gold rush, the Chinese numbered about 40,000 3% of the
population. However, they were concentrated in the Victorian gold rush areas that also attracted the
mass of the early white diggers Ballarat, Bendigo, and Beechworth.
Common Experiences
Alien in their language, clothing, appearance, and social customs, the Chinese were rejected and
harassed by every other nationality on the goldfields. The issue was not that they were not
accepted, it was that they refused to be accepted. Only a small minority of the Chinese
prospectors chose to adopt a western style of dress and way of life. They worked much harder and
more efficiently than other prospectors did, a fact that the latter party resented. All this resulted in
many racially fuelled riots and fights breaking out all over the country. Even people associated with
Chinese prospectors were persecuted and mistreated.
Outcomes/Impact of the Immigration
While there were many positive, lasting impacts of the Chinese immigration, such as the
introduction of traditional

Breast Feeding Vs. The Bottle
Breast feeding vs. The Bottle: The Decision is yours Some mothers have to give up
breastfeeding even though they want to breastfeed. To give up breastfeeding can be a sensitive
issue in a time when breastfeeding is promoted as the healthiest for mother and child (Larsen
Kronborg, 2013, p. 848). The debate over whether breast feeding is better than bottle feeding or
vice versa has been a debate for many years. With more and more research that is continuously
being developed, the option to breast feed or bottle feed is ultimately up to the parents of the
child. Although the decision could be based on factors such as a physical incapability or financial
burdens, the end result should always be what is going to be best for the baby. As research
continues to grow, there has been proven evidence of the positive and negative aspects that come
with breast feeding and bottle feeding.
The Benefits of Breast Feeding Starting from infancy, parents have the right to make the decisions
in their new child s life, which includes breast feeding their child. Infant nutrition is important in
development and health throughout life (Klag, McNamara, Geraghty, Keim, 2015, p. 1059)
Although the process has been known to bring some complications and many attempts, the end
result has been proven to be beneficial to not only the infant during that time but can be tracked in
their life down the line. The decision to breast feed is a decision that will not only impact the child,
but can also

The Conflict Between Waverly And Her Mother
However, the conflict between Waverly and her mother is very realistic, due to the nature that many
mothers and daughters have different views which causes disagreements. The people of Chinese
descent have their Chinese heritage, but struggle to keep true to their traditions while living around
American culture. The major conflict in the story, the clash of different cultures, leads to the
weakening of the relationship between the two characters. For example, when Waverly reenters the
apartment after running away, she sees the remains of a large fish, its fleshy head still connected to
bones swimming upstream in vain escape (Tan 508). Waverly sees herself as the fish, stripped clean
by her mother s power, unable to break free. Through the major conflict, the characters struggle to
keep their relationship healthy and loving. Tan explains the feelings of Waverly through an
important symbolic imaginary chessgame as she writes, My white pieces screamed as they
scurried and fell off the board one by one. As her men drew closer to my edge, I felt myself
growing light (508). This shows how Waverly feels about the relationship with her mother and how
she is losing the battle. The conflicts are important, especially to the theme, for the conflicts shows
where the lack of understanding comes from and how it can be resolved.
Amy Tan uses symbolism to show the cultures and how this interacts with the conflict of the story.
One example is she used the game of chess as more than

weeks, and after that was still within the top numbers (Billboard Staff, 2015). Even though the
show is aimed for a mature audience, it captures the qualities a hit tv show needs. Friendsis a good
tv show due to the fact that it is a comedy, includes lots of plot twists, and follows one basic
storyline.
To begin, the genre of Friends is comedy. This is the ideal genre for this show because comedies
keep people in a good mood while they watch it. Even on a bad day, a comedy can amuse,
entertain, and provoke enjoyment, (AMC Filmsite, 2017). Also, comedy is one of the most
popular choices within adult audiences. 52% of adults watch comedy tv shows, with the only
category having a higher percentage being movies at 58% (Scarborough, 2013). As well as,
comedy can mean more than one thing. Multiple types of comedy exist, as there are many ways
to make someone laugh. Friends does a very good job of touching on many different kinds of
comedy. Friends is one of the most popular genres of television, and includes elements that draw
people s interest.
Not only is Friends a comedy, it includes multiple plot twists. One of these plot twists is when
Monica and Chandler start to date. Throughout the show up until this point, Monica spends time
to tell Chandler that she is not interested which is especially outlined in an episode set at the
beach, where Chandler tries to find any way to make Monica say she d date him. An example of
this is that he says Okay, there s an apocalypse and we are the last two people on Earth... and
Monica still responds with eh. This is what caused the decision for them to start dating to be a
shock to everyone watching. Another plot twist was when Rachel got pregnant. This was clever
writing because the show had been more focused on Monica and Chandler at that point, and when
the pregnancy test was

The Threat Of The Taliban Essay
Prior to its fall, the Taliban was the essential state supporter of Al Qaeda and gave a place of refuge
that permitted training camps to be set up in Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban, Al Qaeda has
extended out to other terrorist amasses in Egypt, Algeria, Pakistan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Somalia.
In Canada, terrorism exuding from Al Qaeda propelled radicalism remains a genuine risk. In spite
of late fruitful operations focusing on Al Qaeda Core, the Service keeps on seeing backing for AQ
causes in Canada. Of specific importance is the aforementioned examination concerning an asserted
Al Qaeda connected plot to assault a train in Southern Ontario, which prompted the capture of two
people in April 2013.Over the recent years Canada has seen an extensive development in both
domestic and global terrorist threat and additionally various significant. There were prominent
episodes of Canadians flying out abroad to take part in terrorist exercises, and the remarkable
captures for an asserted terrorist plot to be completed on Canadian soil. In the United States, fear
assaults at the April 2013 Boston Marathon showed the continuous danger to the West from
homegrown brutal extremism.
Globally, developments such as, the passing of Osama bin Laden in May 2011, Anwar Awlaki in
September 2011, and other key pioneers dealt major blows to the Al Qaeda (AQ) administration. In
spite of these occurrences, the danger from universal terrorism remains intact. Terrorist

Health Issues Of The Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic has many prevalent health issues through out the country. Some of the
health issues that are common are AIDs, tuberculosis, and chikungunya. There are also waterborne
health issues preventing people from being able to drink the water from the faucet daily without
getting sick. The infancy mortality rate is very high as well as the children being born with a disease

diseases and viruses but there is a lack of resources. Compared to the US, some Dominican people
face a lot more deaths and disease because they lack the resources to diagnosis their illness and to

The Battle of Pearl Harbor Cause and Effects
On Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, at 7:55 AM the Japanese Empire led a surprise attack on
the US Naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, that would leave millions of Americans in shock, and
heartbroken. Before the attack, the United States kept a low profile on International affairs, and
concentrated on the domestic affairs at hand. This tragic moment in American history forever
remembered. It is a mournful day for the American people, although, for the Japanese Empire it

In 1940, the United States was extremely against this animosity and reacted with trade embargoes
and monetary approvals. FDR had talked with the Dutch and the British to see if they would
agree upon embargoes on Japan. Franklin Delano Roosevelt did not want a conflict in the pacific
as the United States was not prepared for war. For instance, the oil embargo that was organized
between the British, the Dutch, and the United States was about 90% of Japan s imported oil. [3]
This upset Japan because without oil or fuel their military and war efforts would come to a
complete stop.
Beginning of the year in 1941, FDR decided that the Pacific Fleet would move to Hawaii from
San Diego in the hopes of discouraging the invasion of the Japanese. Negotiations between
Washington and Tokyo had been going on for several months without a resolution. On July 2, 1941,
the Imperial High Command was tired of negotiations with the United States and needed to proceed
with their development within Asia even with the embargo in place and meaning it would be at a
high risk of war with the US. [4] Therefore, the Japanese had deceived the United States, ignored
the arbitration, and moved forward with their plans. The United States had hoped that this
restrictive embargo would halt Japan s assault as negotiations had continued well into November.
Instead of giving into the United States demands, the Japanese had decided to finally put their

The Technology Revolution Of The 21st Century
Living in the 21st Century most of us, if not all, have been lucky enough to witness the technology
revolution that is occurring at an exponential rate. Phones are getting lighter, computers are
getting faster and the Internet has become more accessible than ever. One would think that having
all this technology and information around us; it should be quite easy launching a healthcare site
for the use of millions. That is where you would be wrong. The US Government landed
themselves into a similar predicament when they underestimated the complexity behind
producing healthcare.gov, a site created by the Obama Care administration in hopes to help
millions of people obtain health insurance. Healthcare.gov is a federal site that facilitates
purchase of private health insurance for consumers who reside in the states. The site was
launched October 1st, 2013 and was instantly met with many technical issues. So much so that
even Obama himself expressed his frustration as 98% of the first 20 million people who accessed
the site had issues ranging of website outages and technical malfunctions. The Centers for
Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) was able to later perform corrective actions and roll out health
plans for millions of Americans across the United States, but not before surpassing its budget by
nearly 1.6 billion dollars. Needles to say the execution around Healthcare.Gov was handled poorly
and raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of the CMS management. In this report

Strategic Dissection Paper on “Microsoft Corporation”
Abstract
This paper defines and exemplifies some of the strategies presented by David (2008) that are
currently being used by the Microsoft organization. This work presents different levels of strategy
(corporate and functional), some of integration and intensive strategies.
Levels of strategy
The corporate level of management consists of the chief executive officer (CEO), other senior
executives, and corporate staff. The main role of corporate level managers is to observe the
development of strategies for the whole organization. This role includes defining the goals of the
organization, determining what businesses it should be in, allocating resources among the different
businesses, formulating and implementing strategies that span ... Show more content on

Not only that, engineers typically get paid more than businesspeople (Kirkpatrick, 2008).
In early 1994, Gates received e mails from two young employees, Jay Allard and Steve Sinofsky,
who argued that Microsoft s current strategy was misguided and ignored the rapidly emerging Web.
In companies with a more hierarchical culture, such action might have been ignored, but in
Microsoft, which operates as a meritocracy in which good ideas trump hierarchical position, it
produced a very different response. Gates convened a meeting of senior executives in April 1994
and then wrote a memo to senior executives arguing that the Internet represented a sea change in
computing and that Microsoft had to respond.
Integration strategies
Microsoft is using a forward integration strategy, which usually involves gaining ownership or
increased control over distributors or retailers. (David, 2010) Microsoft s forward integration
includes opening its own retail stores. Microsoft wants to learn firsthand about what consumers
want and how they buy. Intensive Strategies
A market penetration strategy seeks to increase market share for present products or services in
present markets through greater marketing efforts. Market penetration includes increasing the
number of salespersons, increasing advertising expenditures, offering extensive sales promotion
items, or increasing publicity efforts. (David, 2010)

The Renaissance And Italian Renaissance
The Renaissance (rebirth), was a time in which all art became more personalized and represented
more than we see. There were two major stages in the Western European/ Italian Renaissance:
Early Renaissance and High Renaissance. It gave patrons a new outlook on art and the world.
Styles such as Mannerism, Fresco, and Parietal help advance art in western Europe. Most of the
Renaissanceworks were religious,or had had something to do with the ancient times (ancient greece
and roman culture). Not only was is a re birth of art, it was a re birth of scientific thinking and
studying architecture. Although there are two major sections to the Renaissance, there are very

Mannerism was huge in Italy. One of the greatest pieces created in this style was Leonardo s
Mona Lisa . Leonardo uses mysterious elements for the background, it recalls one of his other
lesser known paintings named Madonna of the Rocks . The reason this piece is so fascinating is
because Leonardo finished very few of his works. He did, however have a notebook of
Renaissance Drawings . Since Leonardo was an architect as well as an artist, this led him to
create some of the greatest technology man has ever known. They also resembled his ideas of
what the Renaissance meant to him and the ideas he gained from this re birth. Some of
Leonardo s tactics are still used today. Take cutaways for example. This style of imagery was
used long before the age of X Rays. Leonardo was not the only one with Renaissance Drawings. It
was common for a lot of Renaissance artists to have notebooks full of drawings. Artists usually
used silverpoint stylus when drawing in their notebook. For other works, artists used different
materials (ink pen, chalk, charcoal, brush, graphite/lead). This has lead me to believe that artists
used different materials to create different moods, and to give each piece a different meaning.
Another big name in the Renaissance was Raphael (Raffaello Santi). It is said that Raphael mostly
likely learned his tactics and roots of Renaissance art from his father, Giovanni Santi.

Descriptive Essay On Restaurant
After a day of running the cold roads, I knew there was only one place to go that served warm
home style country food anywhere near where I was at; and that is Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel
is an inviting restaurant that started in 1969, in Tennessee, that has grown tremendously; however,
it still serves its customers with true southern hospitality. This chain of restaurants tries to gather all
things stereotypically southern in one place hoping to give it customers a tasteof it all. This
exaggerated old southern restaurant is a place where families go to relax and play checkers while
they wait on their table or go look at the general store that is located in front of every Cracker
Barrel restaurant.
As I walked in on a chilly day, I expected the air to be warm and feel welcomed but that was far
from the truth. The air was cold and the staff was hastily walking around yelling back and forth
at one another trying to organize the general store. The general store has a little bit of everything
for everyone. It has old fashioned candies, toys for all ages, dress up clothes for little kids, regular
everyday clothes for grownups, and seasonal products that rotate in and out. My favorite thing that
the general store over prices is its old fashioned candies; though the price is worth it simply because
it is candy that you cannot find anywhere else.

personal lives and their

Digestive Diseases And The Digestive Tract
Digestive diseases are disorders of the digestive tract, which is sometimes called the gastrointestinal
(GI) tract (Eisner, 2014). The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a flexible muscular tube that extends
from the mouth, through the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum to the
anus (Whitney Rolfes, 2012). During digestion, the body breaks down foods into nutrients to
prepare for absorption. During absorption, the cells of the small intestine take the nutrients and send
them to the blood or lymph cells (Whitney Rolfes, 2012). After absorption, the body uses the
nutrients for energy and building blocks for the cells. The digestive tract consists of: the esophagus,
stomach, large intestine, small intestine,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some experience mild symptoms only happening occasionally after eating a certain food but many
struggle with severe symptoms on a daily basis, leading them to consume large amounts of antacids
to try and get relief.
Acid reflux is very common. The American College of Gastroenterology says that over 60 million
Americans experience heartburn at least once a month and at least 15 million as often as daily
(MacGill, 2015).
Acid reflux occurs when some of the acid content of the stomach flows back up into the esophagus.
The stomach contains hydrochloric acid, which is there to help aid in digestion and to protect
against harmful bacteria. The gastroesophageal sphincter protects the esophagus from the acid in
the stomach by acting as a valve and not letting the acid back up into the esophagus. At times, the
valve can fail and it allows the acid to back up into the esophagus, thus creating the sensation of
heartburn (MacGill, 2015).
There can be many different causes to acid reflux occurring. Having a hiatal hernia (a hole in the
diaphragm which allows the upper stomach to enter the chest cavity) can be a factor. Pregnancy
can cause acid reflux due to the pressure being placed on internal organs. Lifestyle choices
including: obesity; smoking; lack of exercise; and high salt intake can all contribute to acid reflux
(Macgill, 2015). Eating too much food or eating certain types of

A complex between crystal violet and iodine (CV I) is formed within the cell. The structure that
determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and
Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of
peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to
trap the purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the
Gram staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin
peptidoglycan layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located
between the plasma membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this
outer layer is dissolved during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex,
hence the pink safranin counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram
staining allows us to observe the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For
Bacillus cereus, endospores were also viewed during microscopic observation. During Gram
staining, the most crucial step in determining the outcome is the decolourisation by alcohol step.
If alcohol is applied too long, the alcohol may wash all the CV I complex that is trapped in
peptidoglycan layer. Therefore, alcohol is only applied for 30 seconds

Hume s Problem Of Induction Essay
Hume provided an integral philosophical question analyzing the problems of causality and of
induction. Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or,
more broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is
that Kant is attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus
leading to a concluding critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful
and why or why not that s so. Hume asserts that there is no form of good reasoning that leads to
the conclusion that the future will resemble the past, or that similar causes will lead to similar
effects. Hume dedicated his philosophical work trying to uncover the problem of induction, and
his skepticism of causality. Hume s claims stem from separating two asserts of knowledge as
relations of ideas priori, meaning that they are certain and it is impossible to imagine them to be
false, they tell you about the meaning of words, knowledge of truths and facts and matters of fact
much of what the scientific community uses, there are craters on the moon, uncertain and can be

Along with this chaos, many people wanted different things to change in the country, which caused

Liquor became a very popular substance in this time period and people began to see that
drunkenness from over drinking was tearing families apart. According to Document H, there
was 9 steps of drinking called, The Drunkard s Progress . What the artist is trying to portray is
that drinking is bad if it gets out of hand. One or two drinks is good but once a person reaches 3
to 4 it is hard to stop continuing. Drinking in moderation was not the problem, it was an overdose
of alcohol and recklessness of the individual that caused the problem. People began to question
why drunkenness was becoming such a problem. In the opinion of Charles Finney, a well known

Analysis Of Unnatural Causes
Why do some of us tend to get sicker more often or die sooner, and what factors causes us to even
become sick in the first place? This series called Unnatural Causes is a timely, informative and
passionately made documentary. It convincingly connects all the dots between health, race,
class, economics and social policy and comes to the conclusion that capitalism is making us
sick. This is a documentary that will provoke anger, discussion, and debate. That is a good thing,
because there are over 47 million uninsured in America and the crisis in health care is at the top
of the domestic agenda. On average, people at the top live longer, healthier lives. Those at the
bottom are more disempowered, get sicker more often and a lot of times, die sooner. We also
see how racial inequality imposes an additional risk burden on people of color which takes place
in Louisville, Kentucky . (Unnatural Causes, 2008) Mary Turner, is one of many that lives in a
poor neighborhood of Louisville. In the documentary, we see her trying to support her three
children as well as her husband on disability. She also has health complications of her own that
prevents her from working. Mary lives her life on a tight budget to keep her family fed and
housed. When it comes to her $200.00 budget to feeding her family, she often times has to settle
for processed or frozen foods which is actually very bad for your health in the long run. Processed
foods are usually loaded with added sugar... or its evil

Alfred Adler
Psychology has had a plethora amount of psychologist that had an impact on the science from
Sigmond Freud, to Erik Erikson. These scientist have paved the pathway for psychology and
made it a very important science that has branched out to many occupations. Alfred Adler, in
particular, had big influence in the Neo Freudian perspective and brought his own theories that
was severely different from any other Neo Freudian. His theories are still being taught and some
of his aspects are still being used in some fields. Alfred Adlerwas born in Vienna on February 7,
1870 and had a rough childhood. As a child, he was extremely frail and contracted multiple
diseases that almost ended his life; which were rickets and pneumonia (Howard Friedman, 2012)....

The First Appearance Of Batman Essay
1938 saw the first appearance of Batman. More of a mystery comic than a superhero comic book,
Batman was inherently different from the pure and clean Superman. He was a gritty and depressing
character that has been able to remain in print even to this day. Rather than using superpowers,
Batman uses detective abilities that allowed him to solve cases and find perpetrators. ( The History
of Comic Books. TheComicBooks.com.) But not even Batman, Superman, or even Captain Marvel
could brace themselves for the arrival of the Marvel comics.
Originally under the name of Timely Comics, Marvel was founded by Martin Goodman, who was
contacted by several superhero veterans from Funnies Inc. The Funnies group told him that they
would present to him a prepared, finished comic book every month, for a service fee. So in 1939,
Marvel released their very first comic Issue #1. The story was about the Original Human Torch;
who was an android superhero, the detective Angel, and Namor the Submariner.
In 1940 there was a rise in popularity for patriotic themed superheroes caused by the creation of
the hero the Shield. As a result, in 1941, Jack Kirby and Joe Simon created the second most iconic
superhero in Marvel comics, Captain America. ( Marvel comics database. ) Captain America,
whose original name was Super American, was a consciously political character that was used to
attack enemies of the United States, and had become Timely Comics most

Advantages of the Toyota Hybrid Electric Vehicles Over the...
INTRODUCTION
The growing dependence of many countries, especially the USA and Europe on the imported oil
and the daily increase of oil price and the heightened concern on the global warming and the

Toyota as the world s third car manufacturing company and the first in Japan has introduced a new

CONVINCING CONSUMERS:
The main issue on Hybrid vehicles was that most of consumers did not believe it as a real car.
Overtime, Toyota succeeded to convince the automobile buyers that Toyota Priusis a real, usable
and efficient hybrid car.
DRIVING RESPONSIBILITY.
Toyota Prius has been equipped with a monitoring system which helps the driver to know how to
run his/her car to have a better function and reduce the fuel usage and save more energy. This helps
the driver to feel responsible on his/her driving and to maximize the car fuel efficiency.
LONG TERM PLAN BEFORE LAUNCHING THE PRODUCT:
Although Toyota invented this new hybrid vehicle more than ten years ago, it did not offer the car
to the USA consumers immediately. The main reason was that Toyota was aware of the new
technology challenges. While Toyota was on the market research and new product development,
other companies were focusing on merger and acquisition. Brand recognition, technology changes
and improvement take several years to finish and Toyota wanted to launch a product which has
cleared all the possible obstacles such as space, efficiency, speed, safety, weight which can meet all
consumers expectations.
MAINTAINS ITS COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES OVER COMPETITORS
The introduction of Toyota Prius was not just a short term goal. Toyota had much broader goals.

The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Alexander The Great
Many people are good or bad leaders. Alexander the great was one of the good leaders. He and
his army fought lots of wars that made events occur. Alexander s life was remarkable and
admirable for all the wars he won. Alexander had lots of enemies that tried to kill him. Alexander
made many decisions, but some of them were mistakes. Alexander led multiple wars to victory
and conquered lots of places which lead him to being a good leader because of it. Alexander
must have been a very brave man for going to war a lot. Alexander s troops was thought to be
unbeatable. In 333 the troops of Alexander and Darius went to battle because Darius lost in a
battle a year before with Alexander, and Darius wanted to win. Alexanders army was
outnumbered. Even though Alexander s army was outnumbered, he used his flair for military
strategy to create formations that defeated Persians and caused Darius to flee. Alexander
declared himself the king of Persia after capturing Darius and holding him a fugitive. (LLC,
2015) As you can see, Alexander had a strong army. He also became leaders of lots of empires.
Alexander created a city, it was the the city of Alexandria. Later on he became the king of

Book Review Dead End In Norvelt
I m going to review the book Dead End in Norvelt which takes place in Norvelt, a small town in
Pennsylvania. Because Norvelt is such a quaint, little neighborhood the first theme I came
across was community. I believe the reason community is a main theme is because when this
book took place 52 years ago everyone always helped each other out. The main character, Jack
lives in Norvelt. It s good that people around this town know how to help out in different ways,
his mom said. I liked that the author was very witty. I liked that novel was very entertaining and
also a bit educational. And that story was very descriptive and his choice of words kind of created
a vivid picture in my mind. I didn t like the constant jumping around from one subject to the next,
although it does show that Jack has a wandering mind. Like most books, the first chapter is where

and would much rather read a dictionary before even touching The Hunger Games or anything

Essay about Tutankhamun s Tomb
Since being one of the most intact monuments of Ancient Egypt, the finding of Tutankhamun s
tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 is believed to be the utmost significant archaeological discoveries
of the century. The treasures found were stored in the following parts of the tomb the Antechamber
Annex, and then the Burial Chamber and Treasury. The Ancient Egyptians believed in the afterlife.
The customs and beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians called for the preservation of the body and
extensive provisions for the after life which were buried with them in the tomb. These treasures
were seen as a continuation of the life of the Pharaoh before his death. It was therefore seen as
essential that the favourite items belonging to King Tut would be buried... Show more content on

The shrine of Tutankhamun uncovers the burial customs of the New Kingdom Egyptians. The
Canopic Shrine positioned on the east wall of the Treasury holds Tutankhamun s embalmed
internal organs. A gold chest held four Canopic jars containing the dead pharaoh s internal
organs in each jar. Undoubtedly, through the process of mummification, the embalmers must
have removed the internal organs and preserved them in the Canopic jars, perhaps to be taken
with the pharaoh to the next world. The third and innermost of three coffins of Tutankhamun is
made of solid gold and is inset with semiprecious stones and coloured glass. It is covered with
carved decorations and inscriptions inside and outside. It bears the names and epitaph of the
deceased king and also protective texts. From this we discover the significance of the
importance of the decoration of the mummy was, and the power the coffin was believed to hold.
Originally, mummification was so expensive that it was a privilege enjoyed only by the Pharaoh
and few nobles. Everybody else was given a simple grave burial in one of the vast cemeteries or
necropolises of the time. But the promise of eternal life was so appealing that it wasn t long before
other classes of Egyptians began signing up for mummification, too.
Strong religious and spiritual believes is shown through the Anubis shrine. It is associated with the
mummification and protection of the dead for their journey into the afterlife. The Anubis

The Learning And Teaching Strategies
Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a
few learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be
briefly discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine
discrimination, the brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such
is considered]...one of the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180).
This learningtechnique occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing
patterns of those being treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of
stagnate energy and perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen
Bulbrook, 2011). Next, perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in
techniques, such as hand positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic
effect. Another learning strategy that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple
act of grouping bits and pieces of information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment)
of a concept. For example words stringed together create sentences and sentences which are
connected formulate paragraph. In the case of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand
movements and/or places equate to a specific healing technique. The final relevant strategy from the
text is that if interleaving, a cognitive science

Consumerism Worldview
There are many different types of worldviews that that are held among the countless people of this
world. Consumerism is one that is very prominent in this day in time. Consumerism absolutizes
consumption by believing that we can find fulfillment by accumulating wealth and everything that
comes with it. (Wilkins Sanford, 2009). There are many different elements of consumerismI will
discuss, along with how this worldview of consumerism compares with the Christian worldview,
and lastly, I will express how knowing what the Biblesays about consumerism affects my life
personally.
According to Wilkins and Sanford (2009), there are several elements of a consumerism worldview;
accumulating and using things brings fulfillment, money is power, we need just a little bit more,
people are viewed as objects to consume, and if something ceases to fulfill me or meet my needs
it should be discarded. With the idea that by accumulating and using things brings fulfillment,
whether it be fulfillment of material things or fulfillment of emotional needs, this worldview
neglects to fulfill our deepest emotional needs leaving us always desiring more to fill that void.
Money is power leaves people always striving to accumulate wealth so they can have power and
control over situations, because you are only important or significant if you have wealth. Also with
the consumerism worldview, we always feel that we need a little bit more, because what you
already have is never enough, due to material

ASPEN TECHNOLOGY INC.: Currency Hedging Review
1) What are Aspen Technology s main exchange rate exposures? How does Aspen Tech s business
strategy give rise to these exposures as well as to the firm s financing need?
The main exchange rates exposures are: British pounds, Deutsch Mark, Japanese Yen and Belgian
Francs.
Aspen faces foreign currency risks due to sales and expenses in those foreign currencies. Expenses
include R amp;D costs (20% of overall R amp;D are in UK), headquarters, sell force etc. and
represent 52% of Aspen expenses.
If Aspen sells its products in local currency, it s because its clients need to plan their P amp;L and

Per contra, the Belgian Francs is in SHORT position: the company will loose money if Belgian
Francs appreciate.
3) What goal would you recommend for the firm s currency risk management program? Why?
Based on your goal, what types of exposure should Aspen be measuring?
The company has to hedge its cash flow when it is in financial distress. When looking at their
account figures, we can t see any progressive corporate taxes and the R amp;D doesn t weight
enough to say Aspen is in financial distress. Furthermore, the company doesn t risk any default
costs. There are no real arguments here to take into account the need of hedging cash flows.
Nevertheless, the company Aspen needs to hedge its account. Indeed, they are in the case of
economic distress: they care about their image (they need to show their robustness to their
customers), they want to show the stability of the company (smoothing the account figures rather
than the cash flow), and even if they need cash, they want to avoid any impact to the clients.
4) Should the firm maintain its policy of completely eliminating all exposure on booked sales? If
not, what policy would you advocate and why?

Theme Of Patriarchy In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
For centuries, books, television shows, even beloved childhood movies have subtly reinforced the
social construct of patriarchy. Classic movies such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty follow the
typical story line of a damsel in distress, followed by a heroic man coming to her rescue. This
conception of a male focused storyline is nothing new and is an aspect that constitutes patriarchy,
which has existed since the advent of agriculture and has persisted throughout the centuries. In fact,
patriarchy was a major theme that was reinforced in the first story ever recovered; The Epic of
Gilgameshwas written as early as 2000 BC in Mesopotamia and is loosely based on the Sumerian
king, Gilgamesh. The story tells of Gilgamesh s adventures with his friend Enkiduas they conquer
everything from other men to the Bull of Heaven. Throughout the story, patriarchy is heavily
reinforced. Although the driving force behind patriarchy is personal attainment of security and
status, a number of objectively undesirable events result such as the subjugation of women and
societies that value control and dominance. The narrator reinforces different aspects of patriarchy in
The Epic of Gilgamesh by portraying men in a good light and women in a bad one, focusing society
around males, withholding agency from female females, normalizing violence, and creating the
need for unequal relationships between men and women.
The narrator of this epic consistently reinforced the stereotypical gender roles and

Eisenstein Beyond The Shot
Eisenstein also discusses intellectual montage as being conflict within a shot, rather than just the
juxtaposition of two shots side by side. In Beyond the Shot , Eisenstein describes two specific
sorts of conflict within a shot: the conflict between an object and its spatial nature and the conflict
between an event and its temporal nature (88). The first one is used widely throughout the film,
as well as in the casino scene. However, the second type of conflict within a shot is not used in the
casino scene. The first, described as being achieved through optical distortion (88), is exhibited in
shot 52. The camera movement in this shot helps to achieve this sort of conflict, as the camera both
zooms in and tracks out at the same time while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film uses the intellectual and overtonal montage, especially in the casino scene, to showcase
the motifs of the film and elicit a response from the viewer that allows them to create meaning
from these motifs and other recognizable conventions. This, in turn, created a dialectical meaning
for the scene in relation to the entire film: once Lola was able to take control of her situation, she
was able to save Manni. Run Lola Run ended up being an exceptional film to compare to
Eisenstein s theories, and there could be many more other possibilities in how to analyze this film
in comparison to his other theories of

How Did Tennessee Williams Use Spectacles In The Glass...
When making unrealistic things come to life, it is not the main ideas that make it happen, but
the small details. Tennessee Williams, the author of The Glass Menagerie, does a very well job
with giving spectacles meaning. He uses the picture of the father in their living room to show
how different life would be like without a father figure. Laura s leg brace establishes the fact
that being different was not common. He also demonstrated how smoking was very common for
men in that given time period. The use of spectacles in The Glass Menagerie gives it a real
effect. First, the father of Tom and Laura who left when they were a young age showed how much
of a struggle it was to support a familywithout a man. Amanda tried hard to do it on her

The Whale Rider By Niki Caro
The Whale Rider by Niki Caro is a film about a young girl, Paikea s journey to acceptance from her

main conflicts explored throughout this film is the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro,
Paikea s grandparents. Conflict is an important issue in this film because it causes rupture among an
already fractured family.
The film Whale Rider is based around a family living on the East Coast of New Zealand, in

Nanny Flowers didn t like this gesture and after Koro had said goodbye made him hold her.
Here, hold your granddaughter, Nanny told him. This was an important quote for, during this
time because of Koro s rejection too Paikea the conflict between these two characters ignited.
Nanny Flowers thought this was wrong and stood by Paikea for she was only an innocent child
and Koro was being a blinded man. He was looking for something that didn t exist, a prophet, a
new leader who was going to lead their family to great heights. During this scene, Niki Caro used
some clever camera movement and shot compositions to enhance the message she was trying to
get across. When we see Koro saying goodbye to Pai s brother the shot we see is from behind a
glass wall, behind Nanny Flowers shoulders. This was effective because the shot was made out to
be from Nanny Flowers perspective. Caro also used the wall as a barrier showing that there is
separation between the characters. This was clever of Caro because this event was the beginning of
the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro.
Throughout the film the conflict between these characters builds until the very end of the film
when, the conflict reaches its peak. At the end of the film one of the last events is helping a whole
pod of beached whales, back into the sea. After a long night s struggle Paikea gets onto the biggest

  • 2. Anchor Analysis This article will discuss how to create anchors using various techniques. An anchor is a trigger that sets off an emotional cascade in you. Anchors can create good emotions and bad emotions. The principle is one of association. If we associate a certain trigger with a certain emotion then we are almost sure to get the same response every time. You may have heard of a very famous experiment by Ivan Pavlov on the emotional conditioning of dogs. If you have not heard of it, I would suggest that you type it into Google and read about the experiment. This experiment demonstrated that it was possible to create a predetermined emotional response with a trigger or anchor (in this case a ringing bell) provided that the subject (the dog) was pre conditioned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each and every one of us has anchors programmed in us. The problem is that most of us are not aware that these anchors exist or the effect that they have on us as individuals. Anchors can take shape in many different forms. They can be anchors based on sight, sound, touch or any other of the senses. It would be easier to give a specific example. Let us assume that ten years ago you attended the funeral of an aunt of yours who you loved very much. During the funeral, they burnt incense as part of the ceremony. You were obviously in a state of high emotional turmoil. You breathed in the incense with its distinctive smell. Ten years later you pass a shop on your way to work. You notice that there is something about the shop that makes you feel very low but you can t figure out exactly what is causing you to feel that way. After all, it is a wonderful day in summer and you have your vacation to look forward to. Without you consciously realising it, that shop is actually burning the same brand of incense that was at your aunt s funeral. The smell that you are taking in is triggering a subconscious reaction to the emotions that you experienced at your aunt s funeral. Even after ten years, you still experience the same emotions again. The anchor is the smell of the incense and the outcome is the low mood that you experienced as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Waiting For Godot Essay The atomic bomb signaled not only the commencement of the Cold War, but also a political divide between the communist ideologies of the Soviet Union and the democracy of the Western world. Through their texts, composers subverted dominant Cold Warparadigms to ........ ATQ....... Samuel Becketts modernist existential play Waiting for Godot (Godot) (1953) is a philosophical questioning on the purpose of human existence, and the nature of scientific development. This is established at the beginning of Act 1, through an allusion to Christian philosophy in Vladimir s dialogue about the fable of the two thieves, where One is supposed to have been saved and the other damned . In his allusion to the Bible, Beckett emphasises chance being woven into even the most sacred of texts that supposedly hold the ultimate truth for humanity. Moreover, in his book Understanding Samuel Beckett (1990), Alan Astro highlights that it is God s silence that causes the real hopelessness amidst all the comical actions of Beckett s characters. He suggests, the recourse to bookkeeping by the philosopher (Pascal) no less than the clownish tramp shows how helpless we are with respect to God s silence . However, while Beckett s play is concerned with a loss of meaning, it raises a positive message, implying we are free to give our own lives meaning and purpose, free to redeem our suffering by making something of it (Kaufmann). While Beckett sees little reason for hope after witnessing the trauma caused by the very weapons meant to preserve world peace, he is unable to relinquish it entirely. This is evident in the symbol of the tree. The tree is central to the set design of the play, for the sprouting of leaves in act 2, metaphorically suggests new life and resolution an image of hope against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many investigations were made and a lot of so called evidence to prove that such myth exist. But there is one thing that most myths don t have and that s government officials getting involved. If a myth is that serious in order to involve the government, it s got to be a pretty big myth. Similarly aliens were really never proven to exist until the summer of 1947 on a small ranch outside of Roswell, New Mexico (History pg.1).a Man by the name of Mac Brazel witnessed a supposed alien crash in his own backyard. Principles Of The International Olympic Committee Within every business or organization, there must be a set of values and goals that are established to prove consistency throughout their existence. These values and principles are there for them to follow and to lay groundwork as to how they should handle everything that encompasses their organization. In the same way, the International Olympic Committeewas set to provide a charter to highlight their mission and their principles. While it has become clear that Olympism aims to promote a joy of effort, the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles (IOC, 2015, p.13), it has also become evident that they must partner with sponsors to avoid debt like in the example of... This in return turns out to be misleading to the investors, but since General Electric is also sponsoring the Olympics this could cause one to question the true stance on their sponsorship. By General Electric deviating from SEC rules, it s as if the International Olympic Committee were not to follow the charter and to be going against their values of following good governance within their organization. Considering the above contradiction, a solution would be to get more involved in the governance of General Electrics. A way to do this would be to have the International Olympic Committees financial auditors evaluate and monitor General Electric s financial auditors and double check their work. This would ensure that any wrong doing on General Electric s behalf be taken care of immediately and with advice from the International Olympic Committee on making the right decision that will go along with their values. Through this solution, the Olympics don t risk losing a highly ranked company as a sponsor, but can also aid in reducing irrevocable mistakes. Furthermore, two other sponsors, Samsung and Panasonic have undergone scandals that contradict the Olympics values. In November of 2016, Samsung and Panasonic were under investigation for abusing labor rights. Several scenes of violence were found in this book. These scenes existed to contribute to the overall meaning of the complete work. One scene of violence made a significant impact to Okonkwo. The clan was hopeless. The messengers who ran away will possibly come back with more men and Umuofia will end up like Abame. Finding it pointless to stay in a place in which there was femininity in men and in which his beliefs were abandoned, Okonkwo killed himself. This scene portrayed not only the destruction of Okonkwo, but the destruction of the entire clan. The missionaries brought change and successfully converted some Ibo to Christianity. Around 5.6% of the earth s crust has been composed of it, and almost the entire core of the earth. In addition, Iron has been discovered about 5000 years ago, and the name comes from the Scandinavian word iarn . [1] For this essay, my task is to describe the impact of Iron on society. Furthermore, I will research about the chemical and physical properties of Iron, the obtaining of Iron, and the uses through history and lastly I will compare the metal with the metals that were used beforehand, and what impact the discovery had on society. For this essay, my research question is: How has the discovery of Iron affected the society? Inner Turmoil In Giovanni s Room By James Baldwin David s Inner Turmoil in Giovanni s Room When James Baldwin first presented the novel Giovanni s Room to his agent Helen Strauss, she told him to burn it she feared the novel s open homosexual relationship would be unappealing to Baldwin s audience and harm the book s success. This negative attitude towards the LGBT+ community made it all the more important for Baldwin to publish his novel, which was unexpectedly praised for its prose and its honesty (Polchin). Influenced early on by society s stereotypical views on men and sexuality, David, the main character of Giovanni s Room, develops a mindset of homosexuality as wrong and impure, despite being a gay man himself. Here, David acknowledges his conscious efforts to convince himself that he loves Hella, implying that true love, on some level, must be intuitive and natural. • 12. Gender Inequality Is A Prominent Issue Globally Abigail Yeo Zhi Yi 311 Gender inequality is a prominent issue globally. Gender inequality is defined as unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Around the world, women are not treated as equally as men. In 2015, only 50% of the world s working age women were in the labor force, compared to 77% of working age men. In this essay, I will be focusing on gender inequality in China and Japan and the causes and effects of gender inequality in both countries, as well as whether gender inequality will be reduced with education. Francis Bacon once said, Knowledge is power. Education is important in reducing gender inequality for a few main reasons. Firstly, education can empower women. Education, be it vocational or academic, will give women the ability and skill to work and be useful in society. If a woman is given vocational education, she will have skills that she can put to use in a job and will be able to earn money. If a woman is given academic education, she will have greater knowledge and even be able to take up higher ranking jobs. Secondly, education can change the mindsets of people about gender inequality. This applies not only for women, but for men too. Education could help people to realise that women should have the same rights as men and that gender inequality is wrong. People who receive education could spread awareness about the importance of education for women and fight for women s rights, narrowing the gender gap. Thirdly, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To give up breastfeeding can be a sensitive issue in a time when breastfeeding is promoted as the healthiest for mother and child (Larsen Kronborg, 2013, p. 848). The debate over whether breast feeding is better than bottle feeding or vice versa has been a debate for many years. With more and more research that is continuously being developed, the option to breast feed or bottle feed is ultimately up to the parents of the child. The Conflict Between Waverly And Her Mother However, the conflict between Waverly and her mother is very realistic, due to the nature that many mothers and daughters have different views which causes disagreements. The people of Chinese descent have their Chinese heritage, but struggle to keep true to their traditions while living around American culture. The major conflict in the story, the clash of different cultures, leads to the weakening of the relationship between the two characters. For example, when Waverly reenters the apartment after running away, she sees the remains of a large fish, its fleshy head still connected to bones swimming upstream in vain escape (Tan 508). Waverly sees herself as the fish, stripped clean by her mother s power, unable to break free. Through the major conflict, the characters struggle to keep their relationship healthy and loving. Tan explains the feelings of Waverly through an important symbolic imaginary chessgame as she writes, My white pieces screamed as they scurried and fell off the board one by one. As her men drew closer to my edge, I felt myself growing light (508). This shows how Waverly feels about the relationship with her mother and how she is losing the battle. The conflicts are important, especially to the theme, for the conflicts shows where the lack of understanding comes from and how it can be resolved. They also resembled his ideas of what the Renaissance meant to him and the ideas he gained from this re birth. Some of Leonardo s tactics are still used today. Take cutaways for example. This style of imagery was used long before the age of X Rays. Leonardo was not the only one with Renaissance Drawings. It was common for a lot of Renaissance artists to have notebooks full of drawings. Artists usually used silverpoint stylus when drawing in their notebook. For other works, artists used different materials (ink pen, chalk, charcoal, brush, graphite/lead). This has lead me to believe that artists used different materials to create different moods, and to give each piece a different meaning. Another big name in the Renaissance was Raphael (Raffaello Santi). It is said that Raphael mostly likely learned his tactics and roots of Renaissance art from his father, Giovanni Santi. ... • 33. Descriptive Essay On Restaurant After a day of running the cold roads, I knew there was only one place to go that served warm home style country food anywhere near where I was at; and that is Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel is an inviting restaurant that started in 1969, in Tennessee, that has grown tremendously; however, it still serves its customers with true southern hospitality. This chain of restaurants tries to gather all things stereotypically southern in one place hoping to give it customers a tasteof it all. This exaggerated old southern restaurant is a place where families go to relax and play checkers while they wait on their table or go look at the general store that is located in front of every Cracker Barrel restaurant. As I walked in on a chilly day, I expected the air to be warm and feel welcomed but that was far from the truth. The air was cold and the staff was hastily walking around yelling back and forth at one another trying to organize the general store. The general store has a little bit of everything for everyone. It has old fashioned candies, toys for all ages, dress up clothes for little kids, regular everyday clothes for grownups, and seasonal products that rotate in and out. My favorite thing that the general store over prices is its old fashioned candies; though the price is worth it simply because it is candy that you cannot find anywhere else. Making my way back to the hostess table I could already hear the waitresses talking about their personal lives and their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Digestive Diseases And The Digestive Tract Digestive diseases are disorders of the digestive tract, which is sometimes called the gastrointestinal (GI) tract (Eisner, 2014). The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a flexible muscular tube that extends from the mouth, through the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum to the anus (Whitney Rolfes, 2012). During digestion, the body breaks down foods into nutrients to prepare for absorption. During absorption, the cells of the small intestine take the nutrients and send them to the blood or lymph cells (Whitney Rolfes, 2012). After absorption, the body uses the nutrients for energy and building blocks for the cells. The digestive tract consists of: the esophagus, stomach, large intestine, small intestine,... Some experience mild symptoms only happening occasionally after eating a certain food but many struggle with severe symptoms on a daily basis, leading them to consume large amounts of antacids to try and get relief. Acid reflux is very common. The American College of Gastroenterology says that over 60 million Americans experience heartburn at least once a month and at least 15 million as often as daily (MacGill, 2015). Acid reflux occurs when some of the acid content of the stomach flows back up into the esophagus. The stomach contains hydrochloric acid, which is there to help aid in digestion and to protect against harmful bacteria. The gastroesophageal sphincter protects the esophagus from the acid in the stomach by acting as a valve and not letting the acid back up into the esophagus. At times, the valve can fail and it allows the acid to back up into the esophagus, thus creating the sensation of heartburn (MacGill, 2015). There can be many different causes to acid reflux occurring. Having a hiatal hernia (a hole in the diaphragm which allows the upper stomach to enter the chest cavity) can be a factor. Pregnancy can cause acid reflux due to the pressure being placed on internal organs. Lifestyle choices including: obesity; smoking; lack of exercise; and high salt intake can all contribute to acid reflux (Macgill, 2015). Eating too much food or eating certain types of ... The structure that determines the Gram reaction is the cell wall structure and not that shape. Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus are stained purple in the Gram staining as they have a high amount of peptidoglycan which forms the outer layer of the cell. This thick peptidoglycan layer is able to trap the purple CV I complex even after alcohol treatment. Escherichia coli is stained pink in the Gram staining and it is a Gram negative bacteria. Gram negative bacterias usually have a thin peptidoglycan layer compared to Gram positive bacterias. The peptidoglycan layer is located between the plasma membrane and an outer membrane containing lipopolysaccharide and this outer layer is dissolved during the alcohol treatment which results in a loss of the CV I complex, hence the pink safranin counterstain is trapped by the peptidoglycan layer (ASM, 2004). Gram staining allows us to observe the characteristics and cell size, shape and arrangement. For Bacillus cereus, endospores were also viewed during microscopic observation. During Gram staining, the most crucial step in determining the outcome is the decolourisation by alcohol step. If alcohol is applied too long, the alcohol may wash all the CV I complex that is trapped in peptidoglycan layer. Therefore, alcohol is only applied for 30 seconds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or, more broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is that Kant is attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus leading to a concluding critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful and why or why not that s so. The Learning And Teaching Strategies Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a few learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be briefly discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine discrimination, the brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such is considered]...one of the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180). This learningtechnique occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing patterns of those being treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of stagnate energy and perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen Bulbrook, 2011). Next, perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in techniques, such as hand positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic effect. Another learning strategy that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple act of grouping bits and pieces of information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment) of a concept. For example words stringed together create sentences and sentences which are connected formulate paragraph. In the case of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand movements and/or places equate to a specific healing technique. With the idea that by accumulating and using things brings fulfillment, whether it be fulfillment of material things or fulfillment of emotional needs, this worldview neglects to fulfill our deepest emotional needs leaving us always desiring more to fill that void. Money is power leaves people always striving to accumulate wealth so they can have power and control over situations, because you are only important or significant if you have wealth. Indeed, they are in the case of economic distress: they care about their image (they need to show their robustness to their customers), they want to show the stability of the company (smoothing the account figures rather than the cash flow), and even if they need cash, they want to avoid any impact to the clients. 4) Should the firm maintain its policy of completely eliminating all exposure on booked sales? • 55. Theme Of Patriarchy In The Epic Of Gilgamesh For centuries, books, television shows, even beloved childhood movies have subtly reinforced the social construct of patriarchy. Classic movies such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty follow the typical story line of a damsel in distress, followed by a heroic man coming to her rescue. This conception of a male focused storyline is nothing new and is an aspect that constitutes patriarchy, which has existed since the advent of agriculture and has persisted throughout the centuries. In fact, patriarchy was a major theme that was reinforced in the first story ever recovered; The Epic of Gilgameshwas written as early as 2000 BC in Mesopotamia and is loosely based on the Sumerian king, Gilgamesh. The story tells of Gilgamesh s adventures with his friend Enkiduas they conquer everything from other men to the Bull of Heaven. Throughout the story, patriarchy is heavily reinforced. Although the driving force behind patriarchy is personal attainment of security and status, a number of objectively undesirable events result such as the subjugation of women and societies that value control and dominance. The narrator reinforces different aspects of patriarchy in The Epic of Gilgamesh by portraying men in a good light and women in a bad one, focusing society around males, withholding agency from female females, normalizing violence, and creating the need for unequal relationships between men and women. The narrator of this epic consistently reinforced the stereotypical gender roles and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Eisenstein Beyond The Shot Eisenstein also discusses intellectual montage as being conflict within a shot, rather than just the juxtaposition of two shots side by side. In Beyond the Shot , Eisenstein describes two specific sorts of conflict within a shot: the conflict between an object and its spatial nature and the conflict between an event and its temporal nature (88). The first one is used widely throughout the film, as well as in the casino scene. However, the second type of conflict within a shot is not used in the casino scene. The first, described as being achieved through optical distortion (88), is exhibited in shot 52. The camera movement in this shot helps to achieve this sort of conflict, as the camera both zooms in and tracks out at the same time while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film uses the intellectual and overtonal montage, especially in the casino scene, to showcase the motifs of the film and elicit a response from the viewer that allows them to create meaning from these motifs and other recognizable conventions. This, in turn, created a dialectical meaning for the scene in relation to the entire film: once Lola was able to take control of her situation, she was able to save Manni. Run Lola Run ended up being an exceptional film to compare to Eisenstein s theories, and there could be many more other possibilities in how to analyze this film in comparison to his other theories of ... • 57. How Did Tennessee Williams Use Spectacles In The Glass... When making unrealistic things come to life, it is not the main ideas that make it happen, but the small details. Tennessee Williams, the author of The Glass Menagerie, does a very well job with giving spectacles meaning. He uses the picture of the father in their living room to show how different life would be like without a father figure. Laura s leg brace establishes the fact that being different was not common. He also demonstrated how smoking was very common for men in that given time period. The use of spectacles in The Glass Menagerie gives it a real effect. First, the father of Tom and Laura who left when they were a young age showed how much of a struggle it was to support a familywithout a man. Amanda tried hard to do it on her ... The film Whale Rider is based around a family living on the East Coast of New Zealand, in Whangara. The film revolves around two characters, Koro and his granddaughter Paikea. Nanny Flowers didn t like this gesture and after Koro had said goodbye made him hold her. Here, hold your granddaughter, Nanny told him. This was an important quote for, during this time because of Koro s rejection too Paikea the conflict between these two characters ignited. Nanny Flowers thought this was wrong and stood by Paikea for she was only an innocent child and Koro was being a blinded man. He was looking for something that didn t exist, a prophet, a new leader who was going to lead their family to great heights. During this scene, Niki Caro used some clever camera movement and shot compositions to enhance the message she was trying to get across. When we see Koro saying goodbye to Pai s brother the shot we see is from behind a glass wall, behind Nanny Flowers shoulders. This was effective because the shot was made out to be from Nanny Flowers perspective. Caro also used the wall as a barrier showing that there is separation between the characters. This was clever of Caro because this event was the beginning of the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro. Throughout the film the conflict between these characters builds until the very end of the film when, the conflict reaches its peak. At the end of the film one of the last events is helping a whole pod of beached whales, back into the sea. After a long night s struggle Paikea gets onto the biggest ...
