Rock N Roll Impact On Society
#2 compare and contrast the nature, role, and impact of rock n roll with that of beat poetry and
the avant garde. how were these artistic expressions similar, and in what ways did they
significantly diverge? Rock n roll is an important genre of music. It not only have the power to
influence but also sustain itself throughout many generations. American society has been hugely
impacted by rock n roll consistently setting trends for pop music and persuading other genres of
music. Rock n roll has bricked the road for originality, creativity, and broad mindedness. Artist
have been allowed to speak on political issues and even perhaps have persuaded government.
Rock n roll has been attributed with desegregation of teens in the 1950 s through the 1970 s
along with assisting black artist to being played on mainstream radio. Rock n roll is responsible
for helping cultures in several different parts of the world, specifically Europe. With many
different styles existing such as: grunge, heavy metal, punk, classic rock, and alternative rock n

Why Does Nathaniel Hawthorne Use Figurative Language
In 1862, Nathaniel Hawthorne met the then President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.
Hawthorne Describes Lincoln s impressions on him during this meeting by using both positive
and negative diction in a neutral positive light; he also uses imagery to help the reader understand
Lincoln s first impression. Hawthorne uses a great deal of diction to make the reader reflect on
what he or she just read. The large and uncommon words such as veritable specimen, vicissitudes,
uncouthness, and insalubrious make the reader understand the text more as well. This is so
because they will most likely have to look up the definition of the words and can understand any
possible connotation. Hawthorne also uses certain diction to show that although Lincoln was very
ordinary and homely, he was a very good man and by far the best option for president. Hawthorne
always makes sure to write negative diction with a positive light shining over it. The way that he
implements this light lets the reader know just how Hawthorne feels and also lets them know that
although Hawthorne uses the positive light, he doesn t want the reader to not pay... Show more

As Hawthorne uses an abundance of imagery, the reader can picture in his or her own head what
it felt like to meet President Lincoln. Hawthorne also does not just use any imagery, he uses
imagery that helps the reader understand what the President s appearance was, but also shows
Lincoln s characteristics. Through examples such as, He was dressed in a rusty frock coat and
pantaloons, unbrushed, and worn so faithfully that the suit had adapted itself to the curves and
angularities of his figure, and a grown to be an outer skin of the man, the reader can not only tell
that president Lincoln wore this suit a lot, they can tell that he was a man of habit. The application
of imagery by Hawthorne aids in the reader s understanding of

Destiny Review Rebuttal
Jacob Gornall GS 1001 Dr. Ferrell 01/12/2016 Destiny Review Rebuttal Destiny was one of the
most anticipated games of 2014 and it was hyped up to be Bungie s next masterpiece. This was
Bungie s take on borderlands, which I mean let s be real, Borderlands 2 was a knock out,
especially compared to Destiny. Graphically, Destiny is truly a beautiful and diverse looking
game, especially when you explore the planets opposed to the downtrodden atmosphere of Earth.
Whether it s the lush forests of Venus or the red deserts of Mars (Impulse Gamer Admin, 2014).
The graphics are amazing and the worlds are beautiful, but you are really given little reason to

Questions On Cisco s Management System
Question 1 Organization: Cisco is a networking company that designs, manufactures, and sells
networking equipment. In 1994, Cisco s management system was inflexible, which hindered the
development of the company. Appropriate enterprise system Appropriate enterprise system to
support Cisco is ERP system because ERP solved Cisco s problems with flexibility and
technology that happened in 1994. This system give Cisco many benefits such as: 1.With regard
to technology, the IT platform architecture was standardized throughout Cisco 100% for many
tasks such as, UNIX at the server level and Windows NT at the LAN level. 2.The new system
provides the employees with the ability to use internal applications and most functions. This means
that the system will help to improve time and cost efficiency and access to the information. In
other words, it will help to improve employee s productivity and the company s high level of
flexibility. 3.The new system has now more than 17 languages. This will not create any language
barrier problems. In addition, it will increase the number of prospective consumers and the company
s reputation will be largely renowned. 4.Cisco, with the new system, can ship products all over the
Internet. In addition, the customers could make orders via the Internet from anywhere in the world.
5.Moreover, the new system provides Cisco the ability to support distance learning. This will help
Cisco to communicate training with the employees. Enterprise

Alcoholism in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire
Alcoholism s in A Streetcar Named Desire There is a great deal of alcoholism in the play.
Blanche DuBois drinks often and drinks in excess. Alcohol abuse further distinguishes Blanche s
character because in the 1940s, it was atypical for women to drink so much, and even more rare
for women to be so publically alcoholic as Blanche. Those behaviors were stereotypically reserved
for women. Blanche is very much aware of her problems and her social isolation. She uses her
alcoholismas a way to escape from facing herself directly as well as to escape from other aspects of
her reality that she perceives too difficult to bear or change.
One of the memorable lines from the play of Blanche s is: Whoever you are, I ve always
depended on the kindness of strangers. Blanche could be using the world kindness in an ironic
way; from the kind of treatment Blanche desires and receives, it is likely that she has been
treated the same and worse from other men (and women). Another take on the word kindness in
that famous line is that perhaps she must really depend on strangers to be kind because her
friends and family do not show her kindness. Blanche drinks because of how pessimistically she
perceives herself and perceives her life. She fears and wishes to forget her past, so she drinks in the
present, but drinks to the point where she extinguishes any chance for her future.

.He is well known as the Father of scientific management . But the term scientific management was
not invented by Taylor. The origin of the term scientific managementis identified to be in a book na

This report discusses briefly about the Taylor s contribution to the management theoryin terms of
organizational efficiencies, analyzing and measuring of work, managing the tasks between the work

IFR represents a significant shift in the thinking approach to solving problems.
The idea of formulating the IFR is to clearly define the goal of improvement and to work back from
that point, thus eliminating rework by solving the right problem initially.
A basic concept of TRIZ is that systems evolve towards increased ideality, where the extreme result
of this evolution is the ideal final result.
2. TRIZ: List and describe each of the 9 laws of evolution. (900 1200 words) (40 points)
Answer: The following are the laws of evolution:
1.Law of increasing degree of ideality: This is the first law of the evolution of technological
systems. Evolution of technological system moves in the direction of an increasing degree of
ideality. This means that in the process of evolution, a system, which executes some functions,
becomes less complicated, costly, it becomes capable of performing its functions better, or it
performs more functions. A mixture of these evolutionary processes also often occurs. For example,
early computers need lot of power to operate and give small output only. But evolution of computer
is moving towards ideality.
2.Law of non uniform evolution of subsystems: Any technological organization meets some needs,
which usually grow swiftly than the refinement of the system. This also makes an evolutionary
pressure causing the occurrence of structure conflicts. The rate of evolution of various parts of a
system is not uniform;

Dust Buddies Dusting Under The Couch Will Never Be The...
Beware of the Dust Buddies: Dusting Under the Couch Will Never be the Same Again Dust
Buddies is a short film about a terrified, dust bunny who must rescue his ill fated friends from a
vacuum cleaner bag. The opening of the animated feature leads us to a trail of crumbs. First, we
want to vacuum. Second, we believe the food trail leads us to something hideous and nasty, but it
s not. They re tiny, cute, and hungry dust bunnies. What s remarkable, is that one dust bunny, the
runt, is reluctant to leave his shelter, under a table. It s genius, the vacuum can only go so far, so
he gets food by using an open paperclip tool to stab crackers, dropped just outside his safe haven.
As the bigger bunnies go out and get plenty of food, before the maid arrives, we know what going

The maid looks at the plug with suspicious eyes and wonders how in the world did the vacuum
unplug itself. A group bunnies are safe, gathered, under the table and just as the last two bunnies
hop inside the escape tunnel, WHOOSH! The vacuum is roaring and pulling. The runt and his
buddy barely escape death, then seek revenge to battle the maid, who was just doing her job.
Poor thing. Created by Beth Tomashek and Sam Wade, Dust Buddies, will suck you in to the
danger and intrigue of a tiny dust ball gathering his courage to save his friends. The animation has
superb detail, down to the editing. The intercuts were perfection, strengthening the level of intrigue
and threat. The colors are a bright and brilliant. The French accordion, gave the film a feeling of
blissful relaxation and the symphony took us on a roller coaster of danger and suspense. Well
done. I m convinced of a dust bunny s life and how it really looks on the inside of a vacuum cleaner
bag. Check out Dust Buddies, run time, 4:05 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ6eeAjgSZI.

Imagine being put into an arena having to fight for your life within twelve districts, each district
having two candidates having to fight for their lives only having one person to come out as the
winner. Having been unwound by your parents because they feel like you have reached your
peak in life, and that you cannot go any further within your life, or that you get into too much
trouble and that they feel like your time has come. Between these two things they are pretty
terrible to happen to one another and not being able to control you re on fate. Between these two
comparisons you can have multiple setting and characters that you can compare. The relating
characters Connor Lassiter and Katniss Everdeen vary between personalities and how they act,
talk, and think. Connor is a rebellious and head strong 16 year old kid. He is a dynamic
character who evolves from a disobedient and unmanageable child to a responsible man putting
others before himself which in his case is a good thing. Connor becomes more intelligent and uses
this new found competence to prevail against another Unwind strength and size, an example is
him going against Roland. After discovering that his long time girlfriend Ariana has decided she

Beer Novembert Law Lab Report
Using the Beer Lambert Law, it can be interpreted that variation of the concentration in relation to
the constant and the path length of the cuvette will be the sole factor in changing the absorption
rate of a solution, since the length of the cuvette remains 1 cm throughout the duration of the
experiment. A calibration curve that compares the values for the absorbances and the
concentrations of the yellow and blue dye can be found in figures 1 and 2 respectively.
Figure 1. Shows the calibration curve for the absorption relative to the concentration (M) of the
yellow dye
Figure 2. Shows the calibration curve for the absorption relative to the concentration (M) of the
blue dye
Theoretically, both curves should show a linear line that starts ... Show more content on

As with the yellow dye, it was observed that there was no connection to be made between the
absorption and the wavelength. Nevertheless, it was identified that the statistics we received
regarding our wavelength did not emulate that which was found with many of the other groups
during the experiment. Our wavelength remained consistent throughout the dilution of the
substance, while others found that the wavelength decreased as did the concentration of their
solution. This brings up the question of whether diluting a substance will affect the wavelength at
which it will reach its peak absorption. It has already been concluded that concentration and
absorption are inversely proportional, but the relationship the wavelength is intended to have is
not addresses. As one dilutes a solution, the overall volume of water present increases. But, as
water is clear, it does not have a position on the color wheel, and a direct estimation of the
wavelength at which it reaches its peak wavelength cannot be determined based on current data.
However, as we were the only ones that obtained a consistent wavelength regardless of the
concentration, it can inferred that there was likely some type of error. Initial thoughts lead to it the
most likely source being systematic error with the UV VIS spectrometer, as the only possible
source of personal error that could have lead to these results would be

John Dewey s Theory Of Progressive Education
John Dewey (1859 1950), was born in Burlington, Vermont, on October 20, 1859. He attended the
University of Vermont and graduated with his bachelor s degree in 1879 and received his Ph.D.
from Johns Hopkins University. His research work is associated with the school of thought
functionalism . His revolutionary approaches to schooling were fundamental to modern schooling
today. Dewey is one of the most American influential philosophers and educational thinkers, but he
is not a psychologist. Nevertheless, Dewey has many contributions in the field of psychology. He
played a role in influencing many psychologists from Allport to Vygotsky.
Dewey theory of progressive education is essentially a view of education that emphasizes the need
to learn by doing, this puts him in the educational philosophy of pragmatism which believes that
reality must be experienced. He believed that child s life experience should build so that the
students must interact with their environment to adapt and learn. He called for child centered
approach and inquiry based learning to education which emphasis learning in the needs and
interests of the child. He believed that students needs to love what they learn, and need students to
develop their own goals and their own interest, which is the importance of students engagement in
learning nowadays.

Short Term Incentive Pay System
Short Term Incentive Pay
A survey report for publicly traded companies administered by WorldatWork found that 99
percent of the 350 companies had some form of short term incentive pay system in place (Miller,
2014). Short term incentive pay compensates employees for achieving short term business goals
that are typically a year or less. These goals can depend on factors such as the type of business, its
specific strategy, and market conditions to name a few. Metrics for short term incentiveplans can
include financial metrics like revenue growth and profit maximization as well as non financial
metrics specific to the company, such as safety or quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and
more (Fotsch Case, 2015). Short term incentives normally reflect a percentage of the employee s
salary or wage; there are threshold, target, and maximum levels that can be achieved providing
different levels of compensation based on outcome. Short term incentive pay can involve individual
employee performance, or group company wide performance. Some examples of short term
incentive pay include merit pay, bonus pay, and profit/gain sharing. Understanding the specific
processes and benefits of these types of short term incentives allows employers to choose which
plan saves the company the most money in terms of productivity and reduction of turnover.

Bill Clinton Impeach Essay
A controversial issue that occurred not too long ago would be the impeachment of former
President Bill Clinton. Clinton was impeached for having an inappropriate and unprofessional

investigation to impeach Clinton began in October 1998 and he was impeached in December
1998. However, Clinton was spared removal from office after the Senate voted to acquit him in
February 1999 (Clinton Impeachment). The argument for Clinton needing to be impeached is that

argument made to impeach Clinton was that just because something is popular does not mean that
it is right. Representative J.C. Watts expressed this when he said What s popular isn t always

Theistic evolution is the most common worldview of how the earth and life started, some others are

view is close to deism, which says Godallows only natural processes to influence the development
of life. The other assumes that God constantly used miraculous intervention to guide evolution
(GotQuestions.org). The first problem of theistic evolutionis that they state that there is a God, but

Essay On Pig To Human Xenotransplantation
There are 8,000 humans waiting for a life saving [organ] transplant, . These people are unable to get
organs because there is not enough human organs for the people who need them. With this
epidemic scientists and doctors turn to pigs for the answer. Pig organs are anatomically similar to
humans, states surgeon C. Growth. The problem with pig to human xenotransplantation is that pigs
contain proviruses, such as PERVs, that are harmful to humans. With new technology, geneticists
have found a way to cut and paste gene sequences. Geneticists are starting pig to human

Robert E. Lee s Second Battle Of Bull Run
Perhaps the most iconic and most widely respected of all Civil War commanders, General Robert
E. Lee was Born January 19, 1807, in Stratford Virginia. At the age of 18, Robert secured an

The Spread of the Plague
The word plague means a dangerous disease that quickly spreads and causes death. Alexander
Yersin identified the cause of the bubonic plague. He discovered that the disease was being
caused by a deadly bacterium which he named after himself, Yersinia pestis. Yersin worked with a
scientist named Pasteur in France to develop a treatment to fight the plague. Yersin was the first to
suggest that rats and fleas were the main cause for the spreading of the plague. Symptoms of the
plague emerge after one to seven days which include fever, swelling in the regional lymph nodes in
the groin, armpit, or neck. In most cases the bacterium spread to the bloodstream and central
nervous system resulting in death 100 percent of the time. There are actually three types of plague;
the most common was the bubonic plague. The disease in humans has three clinical forms: bubonic
pneumonic and septicemia. The Bubonic plague is the best known form in popular lore, and indeed
it constitutes about three fourths of plague cases (Encyclopedia Britannica 3). The bubonic plague
is the blame for causing the Black Deathof the fourteenth century. The symptoms of the bubonic
plague strike rapidly within two to five days of being bitten by a flea or rat. The first stage of
symptoms includes; fever, chills, severe headache, sore throat, and muscle aches. The second stage
of symptoms include; vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and respiratory failure. The bacterium travel to

Essay on Space Shuttle Ethics Case Study
One of the greatest tragedies in history occurred on January 8, 1986. Shortly after it was launched,
the space shuttle Challenger exploded, killing seven astronauts, including Christa McAuliffe, a
New Hampshire schoolteacher chosen to be the first teacher in space ( Challenger Disaster, n.d.).
The explosion was caused by a failure of the O rings of the solid rocket boosters. The O rings were
unable to seat properly, causing the leaking of hot combustion gases, which burnt through the
external fuel tank. The malfunction was not any one person s or organization s fault; it was caused
by many factors including the decision to launch despite the cold weather, the poor communication

making it a goal to collect information before Russia did so, the agency was only seeing what
would benefit itself, instead of what would benefit the seven astronauts aboard the Challenger.

The Mystery That Was Jay Gatsby
The Mystery that was Jay Gatsby
I carry on a little business on the side, a sort of sideline, you understand (Fitzgerald 87). In The
Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this is the closest Jay Gatsby comes to revealing how he
actually made his fortune. And even here, he doesn t reveal much, but Nick Carraway assumes it
s something illegal when Gatsby goes on to say, It happens to be a rather confidential sort of thing
(Fitzgerald 88). Gatsby is a mysterious man. Because he is evasive and even untruthful about his
life and wealth, everyone around Gatsby makes up their own stories about him. Gatsby s
background is so unfathomable, it is speculated that he acquired his money by playing a part in
illegal activities including fixing the 1919 World Series and Prohibition.
Jay Gatsby s is a rags to riches story that on the surface appears to be the fulfillment of the
American Dream. Born James Gatz, he comes from the Midwest, specifically North Dakota. His
parents were unsuccessful farmers. He was determined to be leave poverty behind. He first

gave him his first taste of wealth, and he liked it. They traveled around the world three times and

Personal Note On Family And Family
There are many of ways that I can describe the word family. To me family isn t just only blood,
family is someone who I can count on when times get hard. That person I can count on may not
be a mother, father, brother, or sister. That person may be a teacher, coach, or a friend. Family is
people who want to see someone happy in life; people who loves us and wants to see us make
something out of ourselves. Familyis people who can get together and have a good time and make
memories. The reasons I value family is because there a support group, they show my history
background and stays connected, and finally I benefit from themy life experience.
If I look into the history of the word family, I can see that the meaning changed several times
over the decades. The meanings always tend to relate together in some type of form. Family was
referred to in the Middle French as a group of people living under the same rooftop in 1337. If
you just think about a next door neighbor who lost themy house and you let them stay in your
home. Say if they moved in with you because they were broke and lost themy house. That neighbor
would be considered family. Over a decade later in 1442 1444, the meaning of family change to
people who are related by blood I did have the same blood line as someone else. That is a term we
still use today. Then again around the time 1580 in the Middle French the word is defined is a
group of people related by blood or marriage also a term we use today. That

In Kidney failure cases urea, creatine, uric acids and electrolytes move from the blood to the
dialysate with the net effect of lowering their concentration in the blood. RBC s WBC s and
plasma proteins are too large to diffuse through the pores of the membrane. Hemodialysis patient
are exposed to 120 to 130 L of water during each dialysis treatment. Small molecular weight
substances can pass from the dialysate in to patient s blood. So the purity of water used for
dialysis is monitored and controlled. * Osmosis: Osmosis is the movement of fluid from an area
of lesser concentration to an area of greater concentration of solutes. Glucose is added to the
dialysate and creates an osmotic gradient across the membrane, pulling excess fluid from the
blood. * Ultra filtration: Ultra filtration results when there is an osmotic gradient or pressure
gradient across the membrane. In PD excess fluid is removed by increasing the osmolality of the
dialysate with the addition of glucose. In HD , the gradient is created by increasing pressure in the
blood compartment(positive pressure)t ore decreasing pressure in the dialysate
compartment(negative pressure). Extracellular fluid moves in to the dialysate because of the
pressure gradient. The excess fluid is removed by creating a pressure differential between the blood
and the dialysate solution.

The Styl Style Of Anita Desai
Anita Desai undoubtedly holds a prominent position among the Contemporary writers of Indo
Anglican fiction. She is a bold and experimental Novelist with a new sense and vibrant richness.
Much attention is given to the emotional crisis of her protagonists who live in a chaotic society.
She delves deep to find out the factors responsible for such a despair and attempts to suggest
solutions to overcome it. From her novels, it is clear that she, possesses one of the healthiest and
psychologically most balanced minds in the realm of Indo Anglican fictionand the sanity of her
tastes and attitudes, is almost exemplary, a point worth emulation for her fellow religionists in the
field of writing. As a woman writer she does not profess to be a feminist and yet she voices the
fears and concerns, the hopes and aspirations of her characters in her own artistic way. She is
deeply fascinated in exploring the social structure through the central characters in her novels. She
is a minute observer of the society existing around her, perceiving everything minutely and
delicately so that the situations can be presented in a poetic style.

The Sixth Sense Vs Unbreakable Research Paper
The Sixth Sense vs. Unbreakable Thrillers films are meant to keep their audience on the edge of
their seats, as the plot builds to its point of highest tension, suspense is crucial. Thrillers have
come a long way since Alfred Hitchcock directed The Lodger back in 1926. One of the most
known directors of this genrethese days is M. Night Shyamalan, who gained international
acceptance with the 1999 smash, The Sixth Sense. Since then he has produced several other films
including Unbreakable and Lady in the Water with the same symbolism and unexpected ending.
While Unbreakable is a mediocre filmat best, The Sixth Sense is significantly better due to plot,
acting and the unanticipated ending.
While both films have elements of the supernatural, The Sixth Sense corroborates itself in the
young boy s visions, and Unbreakable has a supernatural feeling with a superhero theme. In The
Sixth Sense, Cole Sear, played by Haley Joel Osment, is haunted by a dark secret which haunts and
terrifies him at the same time. When child psychologist Malcolm Crowe, played by Bruce Willis,

Negotiations of the Cuban Missile Crisis
Introduction By 1962, the Soviet Union was considerably behind the United States in the nuclear
arms race. The Soviet Union had limited range missiles that were only capable of being launched
against Europe, but the United States possessed missiles that were capable of striking anywhere
within the entire Soviet Union. As it is often said, when it comes to national security, leaders
sometimes make irrational decisions. In an effort to restore the balance of power Soviet Premier

Cross Cultural Negotiations The biggest obstacle that the Soviets and Americans faced in dealing
with this crisis was the added difficulty imposed by cross cultural negotiations. This added burden
further magnified the differences in thinking, feeling and behaving between the two countries. The
table above illustrates the national style in negotiation faced by the United States and Soviet Union.
Both the Americans and Soviets had to take into account each other style to eventually reach an
agreement. Even though Cuba was at the center of this debate, it played a minor roll in the
negotiations between the US and Soviet Union. This national style of negotiation may have
contributed to the crisis through the actions or lack of actions perceived by the Soviets. For

Selling an Insurance policy to a person whose age is between 18 20 years doesn t make any
sense. So we should know if we are going to sell an Insurance policy , the person should be of such
age that understands what are the reason to buy the insurance.
Before a person going for a certain location they have to make a call or in other words I can say
they have to make an appointment. Before going to any location the sales person has to make
some cold calls also which needs to be collect from his database. In this process the sales person
has to make as much as information as he can before going to the customers location.
Another important step in personal selling is approach where a sales person has to make their
first impression to be the best impression. The sales person has to treat the customer by smiling ,
by properly greeting . First of all the sales person needs to introduce himself and focus on the
product . Once we come to know the customer is interested in the product then the sales person
needs to do a presentation. They needs to explain clear about the features and all about the product.
Then the sales person has to handle the questions from a customer in this regard. Before the sales
person moving to close the sales they have to answer to any query from the customer.

Rubber Men and Flashbacks: Narrative Complexity in American Horror Story: Murder House
In the third episode of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk s anthology drama American Horror Story:
Murder House (henceforth AHS: Murder House), Violet Harmon, the daughter of Ben and Vivien
Harmon (the owners of the titular house) begins a relationship with Tate Langdon. It is only in the
sixth episode that she finds out that Tate is not in fact alive: he was shot and killed in 1994 by

A narratively complex show thus rejects the episodic convention of a return to the original status
quo at the end of each episode, as one might see in an episode of Friends. Problems are often left
unresolved to be expanded upon in future episodes. Narrative complexity is thus cumulative and
unconventional: it is a combination of episodic closure and serial accumulation, and employs new
and engaging narratives and forms of storytelling (Jackson). Of the many ways to achieve narrative
complexity, Mittell discusses operational aesthetic, which can best be described as something
similar to special effects. Operational aesthetic is augmented in certain moments within a
narratively complex program. That being said, complex television employs something called the
narrative special effect, which is when a program makes use of certain storytelling tools, to
engage the viewer (Mittell 43). It is by way of the narrative special effect that the media makers
attempt to foster engagement in audiences by planting clues, and this can be achieved through, for
example, shifts in perspective or time, dreams or fantasy sequences, and the absence of clear
storytelling cues. The result is that audiences focus and speculate on form and structure in addition
to content (Jackson). As a narratively complex program, AHS: Murder House makes use of
narrative special effects to drive its storyline and to develop its characters. Episodes start in
different time periods, and characters are often

I Cento Passi Essay
I Cento Passi exemplified many of the central aspects of Mafia culture. Primarily the presence of
family was central to the movie. Whether it was biological family or their mafia family coalitions,
the dedication and loyalty to family was evident in several scenes. Firstly, the relationships within
the Impastato family were impactful, such as when Luigi pins Peppino down in anger to his
disloyalty by fighting against the mafiaon the radio. Additionally, in terms of the mafia family,
Tano lectures Peppino and Giavani, explaining to them how he saved their family by helping
their father provide for them. Secondly, the relevancy of silence and secrecy was distinct. It was
obvious that there was secrecy regarding the emotions and feelings toward the mafia. Peppino
and the Impastato family live simply 100 steps to the leader of the Mafia. They sleep amidst his
control and the mafia s power. Furthermore, as Peppino breaks the silence by his use of the radio
station, a conversation is born and a sense of freedom was felt. Finally, power was one of the most

Peppino s shoes, I believe I would struggle in the fear of bringing unrest and disharmony to my

The Princess Bride Character Analysis
The Princess Bride A Satirical Joy This movie is the perfect melting pot of humor and action. A lot
of movies fail to hit the balance between too much humor and too much action. The Princess Bride
is an exclusion to this cinematic misfortune. Although there are interruptions from the story with
the narration by a grandfather and his grandson. The Princess Brideis a wonderful adventure movie
meant for people of all ages with humorous irony, colorful and unique characters, and fantastical,
well choreographed stunts. The movie follows a kindly grandfather sitting down with his sick
grandson and reading him a story. The story is one that has been passed down from father to son
for generations. As the grandfather reads the story, the action comes alive. The story is a classic
tale of love and adventure as the beautiful Buttercup, engaged to the foul Prince Humperdinck, is
kidnapped and held against her will in order to start a war. It is up to Westley (her once believed
dead love, now returned as the Dread Pirate Roberts) to save her. On the way he meets a thief and
his hired helpers, an accomplished swordsman and a huge, powerful giant, both of whom become
Westley s companions in his quest. The Princess Brideshowcases a great amount of ironic situations;
some are quite humorous. The first piece of irony to point out involves the cunning of the humorous
mastermind Vizzini. During the wine poisoning scene between Vizzini and Westley (then disguised

Vaporizing Marijuana Research Paper
Marijuana: Just a plant
What proves that marijuana is the threat the media, and government depict it to be towards
society? Should it be considered a threat, or is it simply a plant that aids the distressed?
Marijuana has positively benefited the lives of many, so considering it harmful without being
properly informed is unreasonable. Throughout the years a remarkable amount of research has
been done to determine the risk and effects of marijuana. From the majority of research, it was
determined marijuana is safe. Marijuana is safe to smoke because the dangers are exaggerated,
research has proven it has many positive effects on the body, and it s rarely harmful to health.

Creating new ideas relies on the ability to make connections, with that said a 2010 study by
Morgan, Rothwell, et al. showed that one of marijuana s primary properties is its ability to increase
hyper priming, or your ability to make connections between seemingly unrelated connections (
Easter ). With the ability to make connection with this form, users spark many new ideas that
normally would have never occurred. Furthermore, research also suggest that the lines between
users senses blur providing increased capacity for wonder and awe, which in turn allows users to

hike up to base camp. They are at about 20 000 ft in altitude. This hike comes with a great risk of
avalanches. They are 35 miles away from other base camps. For people born at sea level, they
are going very slow and having a hard time along the hike. A few hours into the hike, a women

Jim Heynen s What Happened During The Ice Storm
Janaya Prout
Quick and Calm
Jim Heynen describes, How beautiful! People said when things outside started to shine with ice.
But the freezing rain kept coming. The story, What Happened During the Ice Storm by Jim
Heynen, is about farm boys going to collect pheasants in the middle of a raging ice storm. Every
animal was safe except for the pheasants. They were frozen in place along the fence and could not
see anything through the ice. After a careful analysis of the story, the reader can understand the
theme, how people act in challenging situations, and human nature through imagery, diction, and
figurative language.
Heynen uses a lot of imagery throughout his story so people can visualize how the storm is
affecting the farm boys in the situation. The narrator explains, Things around them were shining
and dripping with icy rain (Heynen). The icy rain makes it more difficult to concentrate on how
to handle the situation. Upon their arrival to the fence, the boys can see how the storm has taken
a toll on the birds. The narrator states, Some of them lifted their heads and turned them from side
to side, but they were blindfolded with ice and didn t flush (Heynen). The birds could not see
anything due to ice covering their eyes. The pheasants were covered in a sheet of ice. As the reader
can see, the conditions of the ice storm affected not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The author could have easily used plain words to tell the story, but he did not. To describe the
storm, Heynen uses the word splintering. Most people know that splinters sometime hurt. This
gives the illusion that the ice was hitting them in little sharp pieces. Heynen also uses gelatin
whites. Gelatin means translucent so Heynen says that it is see through whites. Last, he uses
clinging to show how the ice is sticking to their skin and is not coming off. As a result, Heynen
uses interesting word choice to describe certain parts of the

  • 3. Why Does Nathaniel Hawthorne Use Figurative Language In 1862, Nathaniel Hawthorne met the then President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Hawthorne Describes Lincoln s impressions on him during this meeting by using both positive and negative diction in a neutral positive light; he also uses imagery to help the reader understand Lincoln s first impression. Hawthorne uses a great deal of diction to make the reader reflect on what he or she just read. The large and uncommon words such as veritable specimen, vicissitudes, uncouthness, and insalubrious make the reader understand the text more as well. This is so because they will most likely have to look up the definition of the words and can understand any possible connotation. Hawthorne also uses certain diction to show that although Lincoln was very ordinary and homely, he was a very good man and by far the best option for president. Hawthorne always makes sure to write negative diction with a positive light shining over it. The way that he implements this light lets the reader know just how Hawthorne feels and also lets them know that although Hawthorne uses the positive light, he doesn t want the reader to not pay... Through examples such as, He was dressed in a rusty frock coat and pantaloons, unbrushed, and worn so faithfully that the suit had adapted itself to the curves and angularities of his figure, and a grown to be an outer skin of the man, the reader can not only tell that president Lincoln wore this suit a lot, they can tell that he was a man of habit. This was Bungie s take on borderlands, which I mean let s be real, Borderlands 2 was a knock out, especially compared to Destiny. Graphically, Destiny is truly a beautiful and diverse looking game, especially when you explore the planets opposed to the downtrodden atmosphere of Earth. Whether it s the lush forests of Venus or the red deserts of Mars (Impulse Gamer Admin, 2014). • 6. Alcoholism in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire Alcoholism s in A Streetcar Named Desire There is a great deal of alcoholism in the play. Blanche DuBois drinks often and drinks in excess. Alcohol abuse further distinguishes Blanche s character because in the 1940s, it was atypical for women to drink so much, and even more rare for women to be so publically alcoholic as Blanche. Those behaviors were stereotypically reserved for women. Blanche is very much aware of her problems and her social isolation. She uses her alcoholismas a way to escape from facing herself directly as well as to escape from other aspects of her reality that she perceives too difficult to bear or change. One of the memorable lines from the play of Blanche s is: Whoever you are, I ve always depended on the kindness of strangers. Blanche could be using the world kindness in an ironic way; from the kind of treatment Blanche desires and receives, it is likely that she has been treated the same and worse from other men (and women). Another take on the word kindness in that famous line is that perhaps she must really depend on strangers to be kind because her friends and family do not show her kindness. Blanche drinks because of how pessimistically she perceives herself and perceives her life. She fears and wishes to forget her past, so she drinks in the present, but drinks to the point where she extinguishes any chance for her future. TRIZ: List and describe each of the 9 laws of evolution. (900 1200 words) (40 points) Answer: The following are the laws of evolution: 1.Law of increasing degree of ideality: This is the first law of the evolution of technological systems. Evolution of technological system moves in the direction of an increasing degree of ideality. This means that in the process of evolution, a system, which executes some functions, becomes less complicated, costly, it becomes capable of performing its functions better, or it performs more functions. A mixture of these evolutionary processes also often occurs. For example, early computers need lot of power to operate and give small output only. But evolution of computer is moving towards ideality. 2.Law of non uniform evolution of subsystems: Any technological organization meets some needs, which usually grow swiftly than the refinement of the system. This also makes an evolutionary pressure causing the occurrence of structure conflicts. The rate of evolution of various parts of a system is not uniform; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A calibration curve that compares the values for the absorbances and the concentrations of the yellow and blue dye can be found in figures 1 and 2 respectively. Figure 1. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As with the yellow dye, it was observed that there was no connection to be made between the absorption and the wavelength. Nevertheless, it was identified that the statistics we received regarding our wavelength did not emulate that which was found with many of the other groups during the experiment. Our wavelength remained consistent throughout the dilution of the substance, while others found that the wavelength decreased as did the concentration of their solution. This brings up the question of whether diluting a substance will affect the wavelength at which it will reach its peak absorption. It has already been concluded that concentration and absorption are inversely proportional, but the relationship the wavelength is intended to have is not addresses. As one dilutes a solution, the overall volume of water present increases. But, as water is clear, it does not have a position on the color wheel, and a direct estimation of the wavelength at which it reaches its peak wavelength cannot be determined based on current data. However, as we were the only ones that obtained a consistent wavelength regardless of the concentration, it can inferred that there was likely some type of error. Initial thoughts lead to it the most likely source being systematic error with the UV VIS spectrometer, as the only possible source of personal error that could have lead to these results would be ... Short Term Incentive Pay System Short Term Incentive Pay A survey report for publicly traded companies administered by WorldatWork found that 99 percent of the 350 companies had some form of short term incentive pay system in place (Miller, 2014). Short term incentive pay compensates employees for achieving short term business goals that are typically a year or less. These goals can depend on factors such as the type of business, its specific strategy, and market conditions to name a few. Metrics for short term incentiveplans can include financial metrics like revenue growth and profit maximization as well as non financial metrics specific to the company, such as safety or quality assurance, customer satisfaction, and more (Fotsch Case, 2015). Lee was Born January 19, 1807, in Stratford Virginia. At the age of 18, Robert secured an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, and graduated second in his class in the year 1829. Two years after, he married Mary Anna Randolph Custis, who was a descendent from George Washington. After many jobs, he worked his way up to General of the Confederate Northern Virginias army. In a matter of months, Lee was able to turn the tide of the war in the Confederacy s favor. His army had a complete confidence in Robert E. Lee, but continually suffers from his tendency to push his army farther than they can possibly go. General Robert E. Lee also won a battle called the Second Manassas, which is also known as the Second Battle of Bull Run. Family is people who want to see someone happy in life; people who loves us and wants to see us make something out of ourselves. The reasons I value family is because there a support group, they show my history background and stays connected, and finally I benefit from themy life experience. If I look into the history of the word family, I can see that the meaning changed several times over the decades. The meanings always tend to relate together in some type of form. Family was referred to in the Middle French as a group of people living under the same rooftop in 1337. If you just think about a next door neighbor who lost themy house and you let them stay in your home. Say if they moved in with you because they were broke and lost themy house. That neighbor would be considered family. Over a decade later in 1442 1444, the meaning of family change to people who are related by blood I did have the same blood line as someone else. A narratively complex show thus rejects the episodic convention of a return to the original status quo at the end of each episode, as one might see in an episode of Friends. Problems are often left unresolved to be expanded upon in future episodes. Narrative complexity is thus cumulative and unconventional: it is a combination of episodic closure and serial accumulation, and employs new and engaging narratives and forms of storytelling (Jackson). Of the many ways to achieve narrative complexity, Mittell discusses operational aesthetic, which can best be described as something similar to special effects. Operational aesthetic is augmented in certain moments within a narratively complex program. That being said, complex television employs something called the narrative special effect, which is when a program makes use of certain storytelling tools, to engage the viewer (Mittell 43). It is by way of the narrative special effect that the media makers attempt to foster engagement in audiences by planting clues, and this can be achieved through, for example, shifts in perspective or time, dreams or fantasy sequences, and the absence of clear storytelling cues.
