The right to bear arms? Our second amendment right is something that I feel that most Americans
would go to war over. I never grew up around guns, I have never held a gun, or discharged a gun.
More importantly, I have never used a gun to protect me, my property or my family. This is why I fail
to see the fascination people have with the right to own a gun, especially military grade firearms like
assault rifles. Assault rifles were designed to kill people and have no legitimate civilian purpose.

to own one. Statistically speaking one in every three people in the U.S. own at least one firearm, and
of those 48% own four or more firearms. In the past 40 years the percentage of gun ownership has
gone from forty seven percent to thirty four percent. But guns do serve other purposes like protection
and safety.
When having a conversation about gun rights it is clear that it veers towards American standards and
values. It comes back to a very basic question, how big of a role should the government have in our
everyday lives. We put our faith in our justice system most of the time. So when the highest court in
the land gets together and debates and interprets the second amendment to mean that the individual

Novel and rare sudden onset stimuli are known to attract attention in different situations. Previously
Yantis Jonides (1990) have shown novel sudden onsets capture attention mainly when attention is
diffuse, and Neo Chua (2006) have shown rare sudden onsets capture attention so long as attention is
not already pre deployed to a stationary target. The current study aims to examine the interaction
between rarity of a novel, sudden onset and attention pre deployment by cues or stationary targets, and
how this interaction affects the attentional capture of novel sudden onsets. In doing so, a better
understanding of how these stimuli affect attentional processes may be established. Based upon the
experimental findings, it is proposed that when a sudden onset stimulus is both rare and novel, the
attentional capture processes when perceiving these stimuli are influenced by perceptual load and
modes of attention. Implications of these findings are discussed further in the paper.

On November 13, I decided to analyze how the behaviours and body languages of males and females
during a bus ride by using participant observation as my method of collecting data (also commonly
known as ethnographic field notes). I did this experiment by taking the Translink #49 bus from the
University of British Columbia bus loop at 1 PM in the afternoon to the final stop, Metrotown Station
and rode the same bus back to campus at 6 PM in the evening. I believe the data I have gathered from
this observation is very interesting because in Canada, there is an emphasis on closing the sex gap
between males and females by showing that there are little or no differences (excluding the physical
sense) between the two. Therefore, I was curious if there were behavioural and social variations
between the two sexes in an open space, and I thought that observing other people s actions and body
languages on a public transportation like the bus would be able to answer my questions if there were
differences . I would argue that we can learn a lot from the way we act through the patterns I have
seen and use that to be more conscious about our actions when we hop on a bus ride. Originally, I
expected to find little difference between the two sexes, because I did not anticipate that humans
would act differently due to their sex in a closed space that they had to stay in for a temporary amount

As I walked toward the entrance I took a deep breath and exhaled. Several emotions rushed through

Humanity as a whole cannot help but judge one another. A stereotype is a fixed belief about someone s
religion, gender, or social group. Stereotypes can have positive and negative affects on our society.
Often times, people use stereotypes to belittle a group of people. An example of a racial stereotype
would include all Hispanics being illegal immigrants. Racial stereotypes always favor the race of the
holder and put down other races. People use racial stereotypes because it is human nature to recognize
patterns. When seeing these patterns within a specific race people often tend to immediately associate
him or herself within that society. From a positive point of view stereotypes can give confidence and
favor them above a certain group or class of people. Stereotypes such as Asians have high IQs can
make them have confidence in themselves. often times it is hard to live up to a positive stereotype.
Although we think positive stereotyping is a good thing it really is not. Most positive stereotyping sets
