Conflict Between Principles And Power In Captain America
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a movie attempting to understand the confusing and
contradictory world that is modern America s political and social order. It is a movie that is
based upon the modern era and yet somehow timeless. It is a movie that is firmly rooted in the
Fantasy/ Sci Fi genre with super soldiers, flying aircraft carriers, and a bevy of comic book
characters. It is also a movie which perfectly encapsulates the chaotic and bewildering nature of the
war on terror and the surveillance state. Though it is a movie set entirely in the United Statesand
primarily is focused on domestic policy, the primary conflict is one applying to foreign policy as
well and this is the conflict between principles and power, between survival and ideals. Though the
movie may initially seem to favor principles over power, upon a closer look the movie focuses a
great deal on power and draws greatly on Realist theory for its worldview.
The axis of the movie is the reveal to Captain America that S.H.I.E.L.D., the multinational defense
organization he works for, is developing the technology to launch preemptive strikes. This disturbs
the physical manifestation of American values and leads him to confront S.H.I.E.L.D s director
Nicholas J. Fury. The ensuing argument perfectly encapsulates the conflict between principles and
power in post 9 11 America. When it is pointed out he had done some morally questionable actions
during WWII Captain America responds yeah we compromised.

Conclusion Of A Utopia
Every modern architects is trying to achieve a dream they have never been perfectly successful
society a Utopia. The word utopia first described as fictional island society in Sir Thomas More s
book Utopia in 1516 as perfect community with a visionary system of political and society cities
that function to improve man s daily lives and free from problems. This imagination citycan never
exist. Yet, the concept of utopiahas influenced to the arts, especially architects. In the early 20th
century, the world was facing the destruction by World War 1. A modernist movement was
beginning by Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, to name the best known among
them. By bringing in new material such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important is everything has to be functional. Thus, modernists planned the urban
according to their function and purpose. Residential and commercial were always separated by
zoning. Mostly these two zone is separated by district or interlinking road. Most of them are far
with each other. Each zone has to be practical and functional on their own purpose. This is also
what a Utopia aim to be. Function is more important than everything.
Chapter 4.0 Conclusion Utopia was mean to be perfect but no utopia can ever give satisfaction
to everyone. In fact, people are demanding more and the pricier price will be pay for the
satisfaction. This is what will be happen whenever things are going same to a large number of
people and eventually humanity will be drowned. The evolution of machine might change the
quality lifestyle of human but it is reversing humanity. There are a lot of agree and disagreement
about utopia. Some agree that utopia represented the ideological of the whole society. Eventually
some disagree this statement and said utopia is impossible to success and listing out the reason of
failure of utopia. In my opinion, there is no wrong or right in utopia. Human have to learn from the
wrong and making it right. Adapt the good from utopia and learn the wrong, yet idea of Utopia has

The Dorm Analysis
Oh, the rights of fall! Summer is retreating, migratory birds start to flock, the first crops are
harvested, and (add dramatic music here) it s time for kids to go to the many colleges and
universities around the country. Dorms will soon be filled, and decorating themes of all types will
sprout from the various rooms. Lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, and gymnasiums are important
structures to any facility of higher learning, but one type of building stands alone as the bastion of
student interest: The Dorm. The dorm. That word strikes fear into the hearts of mothers concerned
about their baby boy s new home away from home . But the topic today is decorating a guy s dorm
room, not Mom s trepidation about her offspring s laundry skills... Show more content on

If you are living 9 months of the year in an ode to the mighty cinder block then Halloween can be
the perfect holiday to bust out of a rut and get over the halfway point of the semester. If you
room alone, then you are all set and free to decorate for Halloween at will. If you have a roomie,
it would be best to ask if they have any opinions about decorations before you get started. The
ideas in this article are broken into a couple of themes. The Macabre Halloween Theme To some
people Halloween is all skeletons, Frankenstein, and white sheets. To others it is an all out gore
fest best left alone by the faint of heart. The Macabre Set should get creative with their
decorations and give ordinary items a touch of the bizarre. The best place to start is a good thrift
store in the print department. Flip through their pictures and pull out some old posters or prints
and take them back to your dorm room with some creamy red paint. If you managed to land
some prints of bikini clad girls on a beach so much the better! The girls are always the first to go
in a good horror movie, and they will look great in various shades of terror on the wall. Take
your red paint and apply it in a strategic way so as to suggest trauma. A daub at the temples or a
puddle at the feet will be a great opener. Let the paint dry completely, then take your print and
crumble it up slightly before pressing it back out smooth. This helps disguise the texture of the
paint and add a distorted look to the picture. Do this to several different prints if at all possible,
and mix up your selections. Even a peaceful seen of little lambs can be given a scary twist for
Halloween. The best thing to do to really add a touch of the dark side to your artwork is to plug in
a soft nightlight beneath the pictures to cast a glow on them after dark without having to illuminate
your whole room. Pull the covers tight! The Future Homemaker Halloween Theme This theme is

Comparison Of Us And Uk Criminal Law. Charles Vatter....
Comparison of US and UK Criminal Law

Professor Thomas Wilder

Survey of Criminal Justice CRM 220
14 May 2017
Comparison of US and UK Criminal Law Before I begin my comparison, I think it is important to
first discuss Criminal Law in general. Criminal Law is defined as a body of rules and statutes that
defines conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and
welfare and that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts . (Criminal
Law, 2017) Most criminal laws are defined in a statute, meaning they were enacted through
legislation. Criminal Law deals with actions that harm or threaten individuals or their property. The
laws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mens Rea refers to criminal intent. Moreover, it is the state of mind indicating culpability which is
required by statute as an element of a crime. (Legal Information Institute, 2007) Punishment is the
final principle of the seven. It can be defined as stating that there must be a punishment defined in
law for the act that a person is being found guilty of committing.
Now that we have a general understanding of Criminal Law, we can begin our comparison. For this
comparison, I have chosen to compare the Criminal Justice systems of the United States of America
and the United Kingdom. Thought these two countries have differences in their systems, they also
share some similarities. In the USA, states have defined their own individual laws and maintain
individual court systems. The UK has a similar situation with laws determined and courts
maintained by areas such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to name a few. Both systems
utilize the common law or case law system. This means that the prior judgments of courts will
help decide current and future cases as well. One glaring difference is the Constitution we have in
the United States. The UK does not have a Constitution or a central document like this to draw
legislation from and use as a guide the way we do in this country. In the US, all our laws must
abide by the Constitution and not violate our rights defined in this important document. The UK
relies strictly on legislation and case

Electricity, Heating Water Electricity, heating and water consumption can be substantial costs,
which you need to monitor and preferably compare with local standards, so you get a notion of any
exaggerated usage. In addition, consider that children unaware of cost will consume more than

that teach them the right attitude, e.g. reduce the greenhouse effect and help avoiding that the polar

They found that women are worst at this, but are also better at selling the clothes again. One of
the causes are impulse buys, therefore, a remedy would be avoid sales, window shopping, outlet
visits or browsing the internet shops for ideas, when not having anything better to do. Instead,
prepare a shopping list in advance and stick to it, e.g. only buy the new trousers you actually
need. Another way to reduce impulse buys is; leave the debit cards at home when you are
shopping and bring cash instead, which may be harder to spend; the cost becomes real. In
addition, it is also easier to limit the amount you put in your pocket in advance. Some claim that
it is possible to dress nicely for everyday and parties for little money. The straightforward solution
would be buying clothes and shoes in the supermarket, but you can actually buy fashion and
branded clothing at decent prices on the internet. The internet offers several advantages; a large
selection, buy with a few clicks when you have the time and have it delivered at your door.
However, the interesting advantage of online shopping is that you can often find attractive offers.

Essay on Jack Kevorkian
Jack Kevorkian
Jack Kevorkian was born in 1928 in Pontiac, Michigan, to Armenian immigrants. He grew up in
Pontiac and went on to college and medical school at the University of Michigan, where he
received his medical degree in 1952. Dr Kevorkian chose pathology as his specialty, which
involves trying to determine causes of disease and death. He served in Korea as an Army medical
officer, then came back to Michigan and began residency.
It was apparent that Dr. Kevorkian had an obsession with death even in his residency, where he
often requested to work the night shift because more patients died at night. It was during his
residency where he first acquired the nickname Dr. Death. He experimented with photographing the

He wrote many articles on euthanasia, and he again proposed research on prisoners being
executed. Most publishers rejected his works, but he was published in a few obscure journals
(Betzold, 1993).
In 1986 Kevorkian moved back to Michigan but was unable to find a job because of his
controversial writings. He made a trip to Amsterdam, where he observed widely tolerated (but
illegal at the time) assisted suicide. Inspired, he began placing ads in local newspapers classified
sections for death counseling, but no terminally ill patients responded.
In 1989 Kevorkian heard the story of David Rivlin, a 38 year old Michigan man who had
become a quadriplegic at 19, and had been reduced to needing a respirator after a failed spinal
surgery. Rivlin wanted to be taken off life support, and when Kevorkian heard of his story, he
worked on helping him commit suicide (Betzold, 1993). Kevorkian designed and built his
Thanatron (Greek for death machine ), which he built for $30 using parts that he found at garage
sales (Garsten, 1999). However, Rivlin refused Kevorkian s help and used another doctor to
remove life support.
Kevorkian then tried to put an ad in a county medical society s bulletin, asking for terminally ill
patients who wanted help in committing suicide. The medical society rejected him, but a local TV
station reported on his assisted death

excessive amount of unusual clumps. This was the discovery of Alzheimer s disease, and although
Dr. Alois Alzheimer didn t know it at the time, his discovery would be one that uncovered a

symptoms. It usually begins with the person forgetting their short term memory. Because
Alzheimer s begins in the hippocampus the learning part of the brain they may have trouble
remembering names when they are introduced to new people. In the second stage of Alzheimer s
disease, patients can expect to be disoriented at times, have sudden mood and behavior changes,
and often develop suspicions about their family, friends, or caregivers. During the end of this
stage, they may also experience hallucinations, delusions, and have extreme paranoia. During the
third and final stage of Alzheimer s, patients have difficulty speaking, walking, and swallowing.
In this final stage, the brain shrinks to about one fourth the size of a normal brain, and the person
will most likely pass away. Those who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease are expected
to live only about eight years after their diagnosis, due to its progressive nature and worsening over

Similarities and differences between the Populist Party and Progressive reformers
In the late 1800s businesses were taking over, many groups of people were upset with the power
that business had such as farmers. They started a Farmer s Alliance which later developed into the
Populist Party. The platform for the Populist Partyincluded many things such as graduated income
taxes and regulations of railroads. Although the Populist Party had very little success, the
Progressive reformers wanted to continue the Populist Party s legacy. Both parties had similarities

conditions. Populist had very dangerous and unfair working conditions as farmers, with
machines that were unreliable and also getting payed very little for their products. The point of
view was of poor farmers from Minnesota and Kansas who were selling their crops for an unfair

Why Is The Library Of Alexandria So Important
To understand modern Alexandria, we have to go back a little to its history.
The history of Alexandria is an admirable story that exposes to the reader the significant role the
city played as Egypt s most important harbor and of its unfolding civilization and participation in
the structure of Egypt. Thanks to the economic importance as a center of trade in the Eastern
Mediterranean, Alexandria has long been home to a considerable foreign colony. Most of the
Europeans who make up a large percentage of today s population are of Greek or Italian decent.
The city was founded by Alexander the Great in the year 331 BC with an objective to link the land
of the Pharaohs with the Greek world both materially and culturally. The planning and building ...

excuse their natural abilities have allowed them to reach their expertlevel of knowledge and

less to do with a person s talent and that hard work is the primary push factor towards those
achievements. All of those accomplished people from various fields have one thing in common:

They concluded that the amount of time spent in deliberate practice and effort put forth,
predicted advancing further rounds in final competition far better than any other kind of
preparation (Duckworth 126), consequently proving that deliberate practice is key to success.
Nevertheless, deliberate practice is less about quantity and more about the quality of practice.
Practicing to reach a certain quota of time spent on the task or following the same routine will
yield limited results, quickly leading to frustration. Repetition of the same motions does not
mean excellence; defining goals and honing in on weaknesses are the only way to avoid
stagnation in practice. Deliberate practice requires a willingness to refine skills and put forth a
full effort something Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky has strived to do her entire career. Her
coach has described her as someone who willingly does more deliberate practice than anyone he
s ever met (Duckworth 136). She knows how deeply gratifying practice is when done correctly,
and has six Olympic medals to prove it. While expert performers may seem to have reached a
godlike level of achievement, their successes are only attained through the patience required for
deliberate practice.
Even the most daunting of challenges or unfair disadvantages can be overcome through the use of
deliberate practice. According to Ericsson s study, there are very few characteristics that would

Speech On Buy Nothing Day
BUY NOTHING DAY
In 1990, in ten countries around the world, people demonstrated their discontent with consumer
culture and decided to hold a Buy Nothing Day. Their intention was to encourage people to say no
to consumerism and to remind them that they shouldn t be slaves to material possessions. Every
year since then, they have staged similar days, and each year more and more people and countries
have joined them.
On Buy Nothing Day, activists organise various free and creative forms of entertainment to prove
to people that it is possible to have fun without spending money. Activists also pass out colourful

Internal Identity Conflicts In Lord Furnival, By Nathaniel...
Crispin s identity is something that he struggles with throughout the book. At the beginning of the
book, his name is Asta s son since he lives with his mother and never knew his father. He grew up
with no personal name and little dignity because he and his mother were so poor. Later, he
becomes the servant of Bear and finds out he is the son of LordFurnival, the Lord of his small
villageand various others throughout England. Simply because of the fact he is Lord Furnival s
son, he is sought to be silenced and killed. At the end of the book, he chooses to become what he
wants to really be, a free man who decides where his own path will take him. Crispin realizes that
he ultimately decides who he will serve while doing what action. The social restrictions that
previously bind him are cut off and he begins his new life. The picture with the question mark in the
man s head represents the internal identity conflict.
When John Aycliffe, the steward from Crispin s village, declares Crispin a wolf s head, it
becomes legal for anyone to kill Crispin. Whoever spots him, may kill him and reap a monetary
award. Crispin does not realize until the end of the book why he is to be killed. Much conflict of
the book stems from the escaping and dodging of men searching for Crispin. He always has the
fear that he will be spotted in one of the towns while he and Bear are performing. His fears become

Essay On Universal Healthcare
Universal Healthcare
Ashley Powell
Simpson College
Abstract
People today consider America one of the world s greatest countries. Many Americans enjoy a high
standard of living compared to many other parts of the world. Yet somehow the health care system
in America ranks number 37 in the world. (The World Health Organization s ranking of the world s
health system) Although the United States is known to be one of the most advanced countries in the
entire world, they spend more money on healthcare than any other country. (Zablit) America does
not have universal healthcare coverage. Ultimately, lives are being lost due to proper and
affordable healthcare being out of reach for some citizens.
Without universal healthcare coverage each American is responsible for obtaining their own health
insurance. This can be done through their employer or private insurance companies and the person
is responsible for the monthly premium as well as a deductible, co pay, or other portion of the
healthcare service. The insurance company covers the remaining costs. (Q A: US healthcare reform)
The American health care system does accommodate all its citizens. Medicare is one of the most
important arrangements in the healthcare scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The National Health Service (NHS) is an instance of socialized medicine which provides for
primary care, in patient care and long term healthcare. Healthcare is free at the point of service
however; eye care, dental and other such aspects may be billed. This system is funded by taxpayers
by a supplementary tax on their income. Here every citizen is under health coverage their entire
lifetime regardless of any other requirement. Due to such a structure, preventive medication may be
used for the overall health of the country. This pattern also helps in keeping the cost of prescription
drugs low, thus making healthcare affordable.

My Travel Experience
My journey the day I left my home country in search of a better life was not as pleasurable or
exciting as I expected. Although it was not a long flight, the accumulation of unexpected
vicissitudes during the trip made my dream of traveling an absolute nightmare. Not only my
sadness to be leaving my family behind, the uncertainty to fly alone and for the first time, or my
inexperience with the procedures at the airport contributed to this calamity, but even my neighbor
on the plane added his bit of sand in the affair. My trauma was such that after that day, I thought I
would never dare to fly again.
The nightmare began long before we even set foot on the plane. I was about to travel from the
international airport of Havana, Cuba to Cancun, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This event caused a big fuss at the airport, and I could feel the heat of my red face boiling of
shame for being the center of attention at that moment. Once the clutter of the corrupt employee
quieted down, I went to check my luggage. Although the line was not so long, it took an eternity to
be assisted, since the only two assistants available at the time for that function had a lively talk
and did not appear to be in any hurry to attend the row of impatient travelers waiting to be served.
Until finally my turn came! The young woman took my documentation with such slow movements
that her arms looked like they had five pound weights in each hand, and then she asked me to put
my luggage on a big scale that was right next to me. I did not have much in my suitcase, only
clothes for a week, a couple of family photos, and a small bag with my makeup, body lotions, and
perfume. Since everything was in order with the weight, they tagged my luggage and put it on a
moving mat while I followed it with my eyes until it disappeared behind the curtains.
Throughout the check in process, I tried to show myself strong and calm; I did not want my
relatives there to see the pain and sadness reflected in my face for leaving them behind. When it
came time to go through the immigration check point, I knew that it was time to embrace and kiss
my family for the last time with the uncertainty of not knowing when I could

Outsiders Value In Society
There was a man from Boston, Massachusetts who was an outsider because he took air baths.
However, he is no longer considered an outsider because he created some great inventions for the
society, for example, he created the bifocals for people who had a hard time seeing and that guy
s name is Ben Franklin. Outsiders contribute a great value in society. Outsiders have value in
society because no matter how weird you are you still have the ability to help others. Take for
example, somebody might be able to help with heavy lifting , like carrying groceries. This could
be an outsider. Some people might argue saying it doesn t have to be an outside doing that. In other
words, an insider can carry groceries. While that might be true, sometimes

Youth Criminal Justice System
New Brunswick s rate of youth criminally charged has been decreasing ever since the introduction
of Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) in 2002. However, a decade has passed with still no progress
on lowering the number of youth sent to pretrial and secure custody, which is disproportionately
high compared to other provinces. The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate s More Less Court

American Colonialism
Colonialism s effects are often noticed within certain ethnic and national groups. However, the
roots of the effects of colonialism extend far past the group; they begin in individual people.
Conrad s Heart of Darkness, Dickinson s I m Nobody! Who are you? and Cullen s Heritage each
display how the unique environment created through the clashing of cultures allows individuals to
redefine and discover themselves. Mr. Kurtzembodies the redefinition of oneself through
colonialism. He is transformed from a man known for his promise, [for] his greatness, [for] his
generous mind, and [for] his noble heart (Conrad 70) into a manipulative leader of the natives

After his escapades in the heart of Africa, Marlow is described as Buddha like. Conrad s purpose
for describing him as such is because being surrounded by uncharted waters, unfamiliar territory,
and cannibals who show commendable amounts of resistance make Marlow more culturally
aware. He sees the complexity in the world; he realizes that Africa is more than just one of the
many blank spaces on the earth [that needs to be filled] with rivers and lakes and names (Conrad
4). This narrow perspective is one he cultivated as a young boy and has carried with him until he
travels to Africa. Similarly to Marlow, the speaker in Dickinson s I m Nobody! Who are you?

is positive and unconcerned, she is comfortable with that fact. Following his stint in Africa, Marlow,

The Friar Is To Blame
Friar Lawrence was a holy man and his duties were simple to uphold the masses, serve others who
are in need of help and the task of teaching. However, he defined and went against his own
authority and therefore, disobeyed his role as a priest in the Catholic Church.
It is clear that The Friar was irresponsible for marrying two exceptionally young children based on
the idea that their secret marriage would help restore peace to Verona and most importantly end the
feud.
The evidence which puts the blame on the Friar around the topic is going to the cell and marrying
them, keeping it a secret instead of telling the family and listening to Romeo request. This was
obviously not the way a priest of the Catholic Church should act no matter the circumstance or

Handguns in Households with Children Essay
Handguns in Households with Children
Guns in America are a problem as bad as the drug problem: 43% of households that have children
have handguns in them; 10 children die every day from handguns, approximately one every 2 ВЅ
hours. That is the same of a classroom of children every two days. Parents do not realize that
children get the physical capacity to reach and discharge a firearm long before the ability to
understand the potential consequences of these actions. Parents who insist on keeping guns in the

Actions like these will reduce the probability of children being killed by a firearm. The presence of

Plainly speaking, if guns were not so readily available, the number of children suicides in America
would decrease significantly.
The number of American citizens concerned with children gun violence is rapidly increasing.
Nearly a million U.S. students took guns to school during 1998. It is important to note that
many school shootings are committed by children who have stolen their parents legally owned
guns. Columbine is just one example of what can happen. Over the two years ending June 30,
1999, violence in and around schools happened in 25 states resulting in 105 deaths. Nearly two
thirds of the victims were primary and secondary schools students, another 11 percent were
teachers or staff, and the remainders were community members slain on school property.
Firearms were used in 75 percent of these deaths. For example, take the case of a nine year old
girl who took a Glock semiautomatic pistol to school. The girl, who told officials she found the
gun in an unlocked drawer in her mother s bedroom, said she wanted it for protection against gang

members who had threatened her at school a week ago. Therefore, rather than relying on teaching
children principles of a gun safety, parents should learn how to more constantly prevent firearm
injuries. Anticipatory guidance is vital to give parents the information that they need to make smart

The Political Philosophy of Karl Raimund Popper
Karl Raimund popper (1902 to 1994) was an influential philosopher of science, who philosophized
about society, in much the same way he philosophized about science in a critical spirit. His personal
experience, as an Austrian Jew in the days of the Nazi Anschluss (meaning link up or annexation in
the German language), provided him a wealth of firsthand experience and insights into the nature of
totalitarian governments.
At a point in popper s life he was an enthusiast of Marxist socialism, but that enthusiasm was short
lived as he soon began to develop a skeptical turn of mind towards Marxist socialism. He questioned
the rationale in the sacrifice of human life which communism found necessary to its cause, after the

They also postulated a broad range of social teleological theories generally called historic ism in
which society was forced into accepting a unilateral version of reality which was wholly certain as
to it present state and future outcomes.
In the defense of the liberal tradition in politics Popper developed certain philosophical positions,
to counter the notions by those philosophers who advocated such illiberal philosophical ideas that
could only lead to the creation of closed societies for the world. The philosophical positions which
popper advanced included a twin edged liberalism , in the sense of peacefully tolerating the
proponents of closed societies in free societies, as long as they stuck to verbal arguments only, and
social engineering by a piecemeal or (gradual) approach to social reforms.
Popper considered the west and the rest of the world endangered by the influence of such thought
that promoted a historicist or collectivist frame of social thought. This sort of frame for social
thought he argued could only lead to the establishment of authoritarian and totalitarian forms of
government, which would in turn suppress and constrain the liberties and lives of people in the
long run.

The Five Stages Of Personality Development
Stages of Personality Development
Why Personality Development is Necessary?
The personality of a person can be defined by their individuality, behaviors, opinion, and thoughts.
All these aspects begin budding during childhood, and are strengthened and molded as an
individual grows into adulthood. Have you ever imagined why a few people have plenty of
friends while others do not? Or why others can effortlessly settle in to any communal gathering
while others cannot? The difference lies due to the kind of personality these people have. While
some individuals have a very likeable personality, some are rather intimidating and complex which
causes others to avoid them.
There are different stages of personality. Over the course of time, you will pass through various
stages in order to become a person of pleasing personality. According to Erikson theory the
personality of a person continues to be molded throughout the entire lifespan right from birth till
death. He has divided this period into eight stages. Each phase has its distinguishing features
marked by emotional crisis, culture of the person and his communication with the society.
Below mentioned are the 5 Stages of Personality Development:

of role for the teenager. In order to develop an individual identity, he becomes admirer of some

Stereotyping in The Way We Lie by Stephanie Ericsson Essay
In the essay The Way We Lie, Stephanie Ericsson writes that All the isms racism, sexism, ageism,
et al. are founded on and fueled by the stereotype and the clichГ©, which are lies of exaggeration,
omission, and ignorance. They are always dangerous. They take a single tree and make it a
landscape. This quote is important due to the fact that stereotypesplay a major role in many aspects
of our society. In American society we have a tendency to pass judgment on people just because of
a pre existing stereotypethat our society has formed on particular groups over the years. American
Society tends to create stereotypes because of the simplicity it adds to our lives, but stereotypes can

In her essay, Stephanie Ericsson makes the point that perhaps stereotyping is used as a sort of
short hand in our society. Stereotyping has become something that we have found to be a vital
part of our communication due to our need for information in the smallest possible amount of
time. It is much easier for an individual to create a stereotype for another individual than it is to
actually learn what they are like. You could spend one second looking at any individual walking
down the road and create a stereotype on who they are, and what they are about. It takes real time
and patience to actually look at an individual, talk to them, learn who they really are, and discover
what they are really about. Patience is not a crucial part of judging others in our society mostly
due to the popular usage of stereotypes. Also, because of our fast paced lives we have become
immune to using patience to learn about the characteristics of others.
Stereotyping cannot only cause less of a need to get to know others, but can also become rather
dangerous. Sometimes individuals pass stereotypes on certain people or groups that initiate anger
and hate due to the origin of the stereotype. For example, the Ku Klux Klan is an organization that
has been around for decades. This particular organization had a developed stereotype against black
Americans that resulted in the death of hundreds of African Americans beginning in the early 1800
s. Though the Ku Klux Klan

The True Meaning Of Love In Love With My Best Friend
Whenever I was a junior in high school, I fell completely in love with my best friend. I know

different people cope, what I have learned, and how this shaped me into who I am. The craziest
thing about love is that it is abstract. You may love an object or person, but you can not grab

you feel this way? I shut out every thing around me and pushed people away. All because one
person decided to give up when I did not want to. Even after the horrible exchanges of words
were tossed back and forth, I still did not want to give up. I was hoping his love would be strong

Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) Essay
Youth crime is a growing epidemic that affects most teenagers at one point in their life. There is no
question in society to whether or not youths are committing crimes. It has been shown that since
1986 to 1998 violent crime committed by youth jumped approximately 120% (CITE). The most
controversial debate in Canadian history would have to be about the Young Offenders Act(YOA). In
1982, Parliament passed the Young Offenders Act (YOA). Effective since 1984, the Young
Offenders Act replaced the most recent version of the Juvenile Delinquents Act (JDA). The Young

Youth crime is a tough issue, with many differing opinions. Punishment and rehabilitation, one, the
other, or both, all topics of debate within society. If you were to discuss the issues with the parents
of a victim, it would be understandable that their opinions would differ greatly than those of the
parents of the offender. Many people have formed an opinion without an in depth look at the act.
Others simply do not care.
The question that needs to be answered is, does the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Canada properly
address the victims rights, the rights and needs of the young offender, and does it protect public
safety? That question is hard to answer, as some people think that the Act is a more decent and
humane way to approach young persons in trouble with the law. On the other hand others feel it
offers too much protection to those whom least deserve it the young offenders, and very little to
those who deserve it the victims. The Youth Criminal Justice Act should concentrate on making
young offenders aware that they will be held responsible and accountable for their behaviour.
Today, despite the fact that youth crime rates

Essay on Ellen Foster
Ellen Foster
Ellen Foster is the compelling story of a young girl who is thrust into reality at a very early age.
Written by Kaye Gibbons, the novel is a documentary of the saga of growing up. It is a recurring
theme, growing up, depicted through many events over the course of this girl^s childhood. This
growing up theme is evident through the experiences she has, as well as the many hardships she
faces.
Ellen^s awkward situation of two dead parents forces her to lose her innocence at a young age, and
mature much faster than any other person her age. This is shown through her in depth
observations about the world and people around her, such as ^He was a big wind up doll of a man.^

Equally important in growing up are friendship, prejudice, and death, all of which are present in the
childhood of Ellen
Foster. Her friendship with a black girl named Starletta is a subject of much controversy. Not
controversy with other people, but controversy within Ellen^s own mind. Her feelings towards
her best friends are contorted by society^s acceptance of other races. This is a common thing
among younger people. Not necessarily among races, but more along the lines of good kids
versus bad kids. Society^s perception of who^s good and who^s bad really affects a child^s
perception of who they should or shouldn^t be seen with. Ellen at the beginning of the book is
somewhat ashamed of Starletta, because she eats dirt, and also feels sorry for her because she
only has a one room house, and doesn^t even have an ^inside the house^ toilet. As the story
progresses,
Ellen^s opinions twist and turn until she reaches the conclusion ^If they could fight a war over how
I^m supposed to think about her then
I^m obligated to do it.^ This is evidence for her evolution as a person, or growing up. Her views
of the world mature at a young age, as does she. Work is also an important part of growing up.

deep resentment for Ellen, because she blames

Stroke Research Papers
Stroke, also known as cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is the fourth leading cause of death in the
United States today. In any given year, approximately 800,000 Americans will suffer a stroke, with
nearly 25% dying acutely or from subsequent complications over the following 12 months. This
article will describe the pathogenesis of the major types of stroke and briefly discuss some
treatment options.
Thromboembolic Strokes 85% of strokes result from a thrombus, or blood clot, blocking the flow of
oxygenated blood to the brain. This scenario often occurs in the context of undiagnosed or
undertreated atrial fibrillation. In atrial fibrillation, the abnormal fluttering movement of the heart s
atrial chambers increases the chances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blood vessel in question may be a branch of a middle cerebral artery, producing the symptoms
described above. In other cases, the vessel may be located deep inside the brain, causing a so
called lacunar infarct, which can result in sensory or motor deficits (but seldom both).
Hemorrhagic strokes can also result from head trauma or therapy with anticoagulant drugs such
as warfarin. Currently, there is no specific treatment for most hemorrhagic strokes other than
supportive care followed by occupational, physical, and speech therapy. In the appendix of this
book, I propose a novel approach to acute stroke management. The most catastrophic form of
hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a weak, bulging region in a blood vessel wall called an
aneurysm ruptures, leading to a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Intracranial aneurysms are more
common in people with polycystic kidney disease; still, the majority of cases are sporadic. People
suffering from an SAH complain of the worst headache of their lives and often experience seizures
and loss of consciousness. Even with prompt hospitalization and surgical intervention, 30% of SAH
victims do not

The Theory X And Theory Y
Douglas McGregor, a social psychologist in the 1960 s, developed two theories for workplace
employees (Theory X and Theory Y, 1996 2016). Theory X describes employees as unmotivated,
irresponsible, they need to be controlled, and they dislike working. Theory Y describes employees
as responsible, enthusiastic, motivated, and imaginative. As an employee, not in a Management
position, I can say I appreciate a manager who follows the Theory Y description. Since I feel that
way as an employee, I will strive to be that type of Manager. I will participate, guide, lead, and
motivate my employees to want to do a good job, and truly love what they do every day. I do
believe that there are many employees in the workforce who do not like to work. When I come
across someone with these characteristics, it will be my job to change their views. A low dose of
responsibility will most likely motivate people to do better. Unfortunately, there are still many
people who have the pessimistic view on life, and nothing will change their ways. Participating
and interacting with employees on a day to day basis shows your interest in their role. I can
understand how applying Theory Y in large organizations may be difficult, but with the right
management in place, each department can be managed with Theory Y roles. I believe many
companies give up on the chance to give their employees the responsibility because it is easier to
control and direct without consideration or involvement from the

Compare And Contrast The Pardoner And Wife Of Bath s Tale
To eat or not to eat. In this battle of concocted tales, this is where it all boils down to. Both the
Pardoner and the Wife of Bath have surely produced fine stories, each with their own charm;
however, it will not be a battle without a clear winner only one can enjoy a free meal. Although the
Wife of Bath s Tale tapped into a strong topic genderequality it only stated that women want to be
equal to men as well, but never delved in deeper. The story even disregards the problem at hand:
a knight who raped a girl and got away scot free, even finding himself a beautiful and loyal wife.
If the story went differently, the Wife of Bath s Tale has all the components of a great story.
Meanwhile, the Pardoner s Tale , although short, successfully showed the corruptness that
humans have, as well as the consequences if ever one finds themselves stuck in greed s vice
grip. Therefore, the Pardoner s tale is better than the Wife of Bath s Tale because it delves into
the darkness of humanity, the consequences when one has dug themselves too deep and shows
how, despite people knowing the result of their misconduct, will still choose to sink further into
darkness. They were after an honourable cause at first, the three rioters, but as soon as their eyes
saw the yellow shimmer inside a bulging bag, they dropped everything and easily surrendered
their minds to greed. In lines 166 169, it states, No longer was it Death those fellows sought, for
they were all so thrilled to see the

Essay about Vocational Teacher Education Reform
Vocational Teacher Education Reform
The reform movements of the 1980s triggered numerous demands to reexamine and reform the way
students and their teachers are educated. This Digest examines the implications for vocational
teacher education emerging from general teacher education reform movements. It discusses how
excellence in vocational education teaching can be achieved and proposes 21st century models for
vocational teacher education.
Impacts of Reform Movements on Vocational Teacher Education
Several of the major reform initiatives of the 1980s and early 1990s argued that improving
education requires improving teacher quality and, accordingly, teacher education. Numerous
changes in teacher recruitment, preparation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to mounting evidence of the deterioration of vocational teacher education, (Dykman
1993), the University Council for Vocational Education and the National Association of State
Directors of Vocational Technical Education Consortium formed a joint task force that identified 13
points for initiating a reform process entailing designing and implementing a customer driven
learning system and an accountability system (Lynch 1997). Like earlier publications examining
general teacher education, the responses to the task force report focused on the need for excellence
in vocational teacher education.
Issues in Achieving Excellence
Debate on the question of how to pursue excellence in vocational teacher education programs
focused on vocational education s mission, audience, and delivery.
New Mission? Until the advent of the reform movement, vocational education had been viewed
as a separate system of education intended to meet the nation s labor needs by providing below
college level training for specific occupations (Lynch 1997). In the late 1980s, that view began to
change. Borrowing words used by Dewey in 1916, Tozer and Nelson (1988) urge vocational
teacher educators to teach prospective teachers to provide students with generalizable higher order
skills by teaching through vocations instead of for vocations (p. 22). Sharp (1996), in his discussion
of the transition to a post Fordist economy, asserts that the recent

Non Denominational Churches
I went to a non denominational Christian church on 18 July 2015. I grew up as a member of the
LDS church and I no longer go to church as well as no longer believe as well. I chose the non
denominational church because it seemed less intimidating as others and I also had a friend to go
with that frequents this church. Non denominational Christian churches have always intrigued me
as well. They have rock bands in church and singing and all together a different type of preaching
then I grew up knowing. I learned that there is different ways non denominational churches handle
things compared to that of other Christian faiths. It was very upbeat and lively throughout the entire
sermon where compared to that of a LDS sacrament service being more

Vla Mobile Sticker Campaign
The VLA mobile sticker campaign is a problem for many reasons. The first reason is that it
manipulates its vast audience through negative, emotional appeals by sending a vivid message
that affects them in a personal way the well being of their child could be at risk. The VLA s
mobile sticker arouses an emotional, and cognitive response out of parents by embedding the idea
that vaccines are harmful for children and setting up an illusion that their healthcare providers have
deceived them. The VLA appeals to many different emotions such as fear, anger, hatred, and
distrust. When people are fearful, they are easily overwhelmed with feelings and tend to make
irrational decisions. Anger is another powerful emotion that is used in persuasion. In the book,
Techniques of Propaganda and Persuasion, author Magedah Shabo explains, Anger often grows
from feelings of fear and uncertainty. Anger is also a very common reaction to injustice,
humiliation, or betrayal (117). Following fear and anger is hatred and distrust, another powerful
motivator in persuasion. When emotions such as fear and anger towards a specific target have
been established, hatred and distrust develop and limit a person s ability to reason with what is
right versus wrong. Many parents with infants and children are vulnerable and quick to believe any
propaganda they see regarding their child s health. Falsely stating that, The Greatest Lie Ever Told...

The mobile sticker falsely claims and generalizes that all vaccines are harmful and ineffective, yet
they show no evidence to prove that this statement is true. Like most anti vaccine groups, the VLA
falsely claims that the mercury in vaccines, as well as the exposure rate of vaccines, is harmful to
the human body. However, in the article, In Defense of Vaccines Part I, MD Mark Crislip,
disproves the worry of mercury toxicity in vaccines. He

Pneumonia Is A Common Infectious Disease
Pneumonia is a very common infectious disease that causes substantial morbidity and mortality. It
is the leading cause of death in children worldwide .8 Prevention measures such as immunization,
proper nutrition and addressing environmental factors in addition with disease management
according to practice guideline, contribute to the decrease in morbidity and mortality rate. Bacteria,
virus and fungi are the primary cause of pneumonia.8 It is referred to as Community acquired
Pneumonia when it acquired in an environmental setting.8 The most common pathogen that causes
community acquired pneumonia is Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae), followed by other
pathogens such as Haemophilus influenzae, Mycoplasma... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pneumoniae was identified as a common respiratory pathogen. Primarily, S. pneumoniae is a
commonly found in the upper respiratory tracts as a normal flora in humans. S. pneumoniae is the
most common cause of community acquired pneumonia where children are identified as the
primary carriers (Choa, 2014). S. pneumoniae is so common that health care providers have noted
key characteristics, making it apparent to detect and diagnose. More importantly, the common
phenotypic features of S. pnuemoniae are characterized by its colonic morphology being that it is
lancet shaped, catalase negative, optochin sensitivity and bile solubility. Pursuing this further, it is
important to follow strict testing procedures to distinguish which pathogen is preset, according to
their characteristics, in order to rule a diagnosis. Ideally, the First step in diagnosis of S.
pneumoniae can be determined using a Catalase test. In this test, S. Pneumoniae shows up as
catalase negative where further differentiation is made by the presence of a hemolytic pattern of
partial hemolysis on the blood agar plate. Another way to diagnose S. Pneumoniae is by using an
Optochin sensitivity test. This test is used to determine a specific classification of all Streptococcus
bacteria. The chemical, optochin, is used in the Optochin test to detect the sensitivity of bacteria,
and further differentiate which organism is

  • 2. Conflict Between Principles And Power In Captain America Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a movie attempting to understand the confusing and contradictory world that is modern America s political and social order. It is a movie that is based upon the modern era and yet somehow timeless. It is a movie that is firmly rooted in the Fantasy/ Sci Fi genre with super soldiers, flying aircraft carriers, and a bevy of comic book characters. It is also a movie which perfectly encapsulates the chaotic and bewildering nature of the war on terror and the surveillance state. Though it is a movie set entirely in the United Statesand primarily is focused on domestic policy, the primary conflict is one applying to foreign policy as well and this is the conflict between principles and power, between survival and ideals. Though the movie may initially seem to favor principles over power, upon a closer look the movie focuses a great deal on power and draws greatly on Realist theory for its worldview. The axis of the movie is the reveal to Captain America that S.H.I.E.L.D., the multinational defense organization he works for, is developing the technology to launch preemptive strikes. This disturbs the physical manifestation of American values and leads him to confront S.H.I.E.L.D s director Nicholas J. Fury. The ensuing argument perfectly encapsulates the conflict between principles and power in post 9 11 America. When it is pointed out he had done some morally questionable actions during WWII Captain America responds yeah we compromised. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Conclusion Of A Utopia Every modern architects is trying to achieve a dream they have never been perfectly successful society a Utopia. The word utopia first described as fictional island society in Sir Thomas More s book Utopia in 1516 as perfect community with a visionary system of political and society cities that function to improve man s daily lives and free from problems. This imagination citycan never exist. Yet, the concept of utopiahas influenced to the arts, especially architects. In the early 20th century, the world was facing the destruction by World War 1. A modernist movement was beginning by Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, to name the best known among them. By bringing in new material such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important is everything has to be functional. Thus, modernists planned the urban according to their function and purpose. Residential and commercial were always separated by zoning. Mostly these two zone is separated by district or interlinking road. Most of them are far with each other. Each zone has to be practical and functional on their own purpose. This is also what a Utopia aim to be. Function is more important than everything. Chapter 4.0 Conclusion Utopia was mean to be perfect but no utopia can ever give satisfaction to everyone. In fact, people are demanding more and the pricier price will be pay for the satisfaction. This is what will be happen whenever things are going same to a large number of people and eventually humanity will be drowned. The evolution of machine might change the quality lifestyle of human but it is reversing humanity. There are a lot of agree and disagreement about utopia. Some agree that utopia represented the ideological of the whole society. Eventually some disagree this statement and said utopia is impossible to success and listing out the reason of failure of utopia. In my opinion, there is no wrong or right in utopia. Human have to learn from the wrong and making it right. Adapt the good from utopia and learn the wrong, yet idea of Utopia has influenced outskirt city suburban area ... • 4. The Dorm Analysis Oh, the rights of fall! Summer is retreating, migratory birds start to flock, the first crops are harvested, and (add dramatic music here) it s time for kids to go to the many colleges and universities around the country. Dorms will soon be filled, and decorating themes of all types will sprout from the various rooms. Lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, and gymnasiums are important structures to any facility of higher learning, but one type of building stands alone as the bastion of student interest: The Dorm. The dorm. That word strikes fear into the hearts of mothers concerned about their baby boy s new home away from home . But the topic today is decorating a guy s dorm room, not Mom s trepidation about her offspring s laundry skills... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you are living 9 months of the year in an ode to the mighty cinder block then Halloween can be the perfect holiday to bust out of a rut and get over the halfway point of the semester. If you room alone, then you are all set and free to decorate for Halloween at will. If you have a roomie, it would be best to ask if they have any opinions about decorations before you get started. The ideas in this article are broken into a couple of themes. The Macabre Halloween Theme To some people Halloween is all skeletons, Frankenstein, and white sheets. To others it is an all out gore fest best left alone by the faint of heart. The Macabre Set should get creative with their decorations and give ordinary items a touch of the bizarre. The best place to start is a good thrift store in the print department. Flip through their pictures and pull out some old posters or prints and take them back to your dorm room with some creamy red paint. If you managed to land some prints of bikini clad girls on a beach so much the better! The girls are always the first to go in a good horror movie, and they will look great in various shades of terror on the wall. Take your red paint and apply it in a strategic way so as to suggest trauma. A daub at the temples or a puddle at the feet will be a great opener. Let the paint dry completely, then take your print and crumble it up slightly before pressing it back out smooth. This helps disguise the texture of the paint and add a distorted look to the picture. Do this to several different prints if at all possible, and mix up your selections. Even a peaceful seen of little lambs can be given a scary twist for Halloween. The best thing to do to really add a touch of the dark side to your artwork is to plug in a soft nightlight beneath the pictures to cast a glow on them after dark without having to illuminate your whole room. Pull the covers tight! The Future Homemaker Halloween Theme This theme is built ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparison Of Us And Uk Criminal Law. Charles Vatter.... Comparison of US and UK Criminal Law Charles Vatter Professor Thomas Wilder Saint Leo University Survey of Criminal Justice CRM 220 14 May 2017 Comparison of US and UK Criminal Law Before I begin my comparison, I think it is important to first discuss Criminal Law in general. Criminal Law is defined as a body of rules and statutes that defines conduct prohibited by the government because it threatens and harms public safety and welfare and that establishes punishment to be imposed for the commission of such acts . (Criminal Law, 2017) Most criminal laws are defined in a statute, meaning they were enacted through legislation. Criminal Law deals with actions that harm or threaten individuals or their property. The laws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mens Rea refers to criminal intent. Moreover, it is the state of mind indicating culpability which is required by statute as an element of a crime. (Legal Information Institute, 2007) Punishment is the final principle of the seven. It can be defined as stating that there must be a punishment defined in law for the act that a person is being found guilty of committing. Now that we have a general understanding of Criminal Law, we can begin our comparison. For this comparison, I have chosen to compare the Criminal Justice systems of the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Thought these two countries have differences in their systems, they also share some similarities. In the USA, states have defined their own individual laws and maintain individual court systems. The UK has a similar situation with laws determined and courts maintained by areas such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to name a few. Both systems utilize the common law or case law system. This means that the prior judgments of courts will help decide current and future cases as well. One glaring difference is the Constitution we have in the United States. The UK does not have a Constitution or a central document like this to draw legislation from and use as a guide the way we do in this country. In the US, all our laws must abide by the Constitution and not violate our rights defined in this important document. The UK relies strictly on legislation and case ... In addition, consider that children unaware of cost will consume more than adults, i.e. teach them to save on electricity, heating water. One of the causes are impulse buys, therefore, a remedy would be avoid sales, window shopping, outlet visits or browsing the internet shops for ideas, when not having anything better to do. Instead, prepare a shopping list in advance and stick to it, e.g. only buy the new trousers you actually need. Another way to reduce impulse buys is; leave the debit cards at home when you are shopping and bring cash instead, which may be harder to spend; the cost becomes real. In addition, it is also easier to limit the amount you put in your pocket in advance. Some claim that it is possible to dress nicely for everyday and parties for little money. He made a trip to Amsterdam, where he observed widely tolerated (but illegal at the time) assisted suicide. In 1989 Kevorkian heard the story of David Rivlin, a 38 year old Michigan man who had become a quadriplegic at 19, and had been reduced to needing a respirator after a failed spinal surgery. Rivlin wanted to be taken off life support, and when Kevorkian heard of his story, he worked on helping him commit suicide (Betzold, 1993). Kevorkian designed and built his Thanatron (Greek for death machine ), which he built for $30 using parts that he found at garage sales (Garsten, 1999). However, Rivlin refused Kevorkian s help and used another doctor to remove life support. The history of Alexandria is an admirable story that exposes to the reader the significant role the city played as Egypt s most important harbor and of its unfolding civilization and participation in the structure of Egypt. Thanks to the economic importance as a center of trade in the Eastern Mediterranean, Alexandria has long been home to a considerable foreign colony. Most of the Europeans who make up a large percentage of today s population are of Greek or Italian decent. Practicing to reach a certain quota of time spent on the task or following the same routine will yield limited results, quickly leading to frustration. Repetition of the same motions does not mean excellence; defining goals and honing in on weaknesses are the only way to avoid stagnation in practice. Deliberate practice requires a willingness to refine skills and put forth a full effort something Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky has strived to do her entire career. Her coach has described her as someone who willingly does more deliberate practice than anyone he s ever met (Duckworth 136). At the beginning of the book, his name is Asta s son since he lives with his mother and never knew his father. He grew up with no personal name and little dignity because he and his mother were so poor. Later, he becomes the servant of Bear and finds out he is the son of LordFurnival, the Lord of his small villageand various others throughout England. Simply because of the fact he is Lord Furnival s son, he is sought to be silenced and killed. At the end of the book, he chooses to become what he wants to really be, a free man who decides where his own path will take him. Crispin realizes that he ultimately decides who he will serve while doing what action. The social restrictions that previously bind him are cut off and he begins his new life. The picture with the question mark in the man s head represents the internal identity conflict. When John Aycliffe, the steward from Crispin s village, declares Crispin a wolf s head, it becomes legal for anyone to kill Crispin. Whoever spots him, may kill him and reap a monetary award. Crispin does not realize until the end of the book why he is to be killed. Much conflict of the book stems from the escaping and dodging of men searching for Crispin. The personality of a person can be defined by their individuality, behaviors, opinion, and thoughts. All these aspects begin budding during childhood, and are strengthened and molded as an individual grows into adulthood. Have you ever imagined why a few people have plenty of friends while others do not? Or why others can effortlessly settle in to any communal gathering while others cannot? The difference lies due to the kind of personality these people have. While some individuals have a very likeable personality, some are rather intimidating and complex which causes others to avoid them. There are different stages of personality. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her essay, Stephanie Ericsson makes the point that perhaps stereotyping is used as a sort of short hand in our society. Stereotyping has become something that we have found to be a vital part of our communication due to our need for information in the smallest possible amount of time. It is much easier for an individual to create a stereotype for another individual than it is to actually learn what they are like. You could spend one second looking at any individual walking down the road and create a stereotype on who they are, and what they are about. It takes real time and patience to actually look at an individual, talk to them, learn who they really are, and discover what they are really about. Patience is not a crucial part of judging others in our society mostly due to the popular usage of stereotypes. Also, because of our fast paced lives we have become immune to using patience to learn about the characteristics of others. Stereotyping cannot only cause less of a need to get to know others, but can also become rather dangerous. Sometimes individuals pass stereotypes on certain people or groups that initiate anger and hate due to the origin of the stereotype. Once the mine owners had control of the mines they said that the only way they could continue to operate would be if they reduced pay, then they also said that fixed reduced pay would come into affect across the whole of mines in Great Britain. In South Wales pay cuts were up to 50% of the miner s pay. All of these issues went against what the MFGB fought for in their national wage bill. Also the mine owners said that no new machinery would be bought. The miner s have been told that private owners would be controlling the mines, they would receive lower pay so would all the other miners and no new machinery would be bought, this would have caused great unrest in the miners. • 38. Essay on Ellen Foster Ellen Foster Ellen Foster is the compelling story of a young girl who is thrust into reality at a very early age. Written by Kaye Gibbons, the novel is a documentary of the saga of growing up. It is a recurring theme, growing up, depicted through many events over the course of this girl^s childhood. This growing up theme is evident through the experiences she has, as well as the many hardships she faces. Ellen^s awkward situation of two dead parents forces her to lose her innocence at a young age, and mature much faster than any other person her age. This is shown through her in depth observations about the world and people around her, such as ^He was a big wind up doll of a man.^ This metaphor depicts her father, a lazy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equally important in growing up are friendship, prejudice, and death, all of which are present in the childhood of Ellen Foster. Her friendship with a black girl named Starletta is a subject of much controversy. Not controversy with other people, but controversy within Ellen^s own mind. Her feelings towards her best friends are contorted by society^s acceptance of other races. This is a common thing among younger people. Not necessarily among races, but more along the lines of good kids versus bad kids. Society^s perception of who^s good and who^s bad really affects a child^s perception of who they should or shouldn^t be seen with. Ellen at the beginning of the book is somewhat ashamed of Starletta, because she eats dirt, and also feels sorry for her because she only has a one room house, and doesn^t even have an ^inside the house^ toilet. As the story progresses, Ellen^s opinions twist and turn until she reaches the conclusion ^If they could fight a war over how I^m supposed to think about her then I^m obligated to do it.^ This is evidence for her evolution as a person, or growing up. Her views of the world mature at a young age, as does she. Work is also an important part of growing up. • 40. Stroke Research Papers Stroke, also known as cerebrovascular accident (CVA), is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States today. In any given year, approximately 800,000 Americans will suffer a stroke, with nearly 25% dying acutely or from subsequent complications over the following 12 months. This article will describe the pathogenesis of the major types of stroke and briefly discuss some treatment options. Thromboembolic Strokes 85% of strokes result from a thrombus, or blood clot, blocking the flow of oxygenated blood to the brain. This scenario often occurs in the context of undiagnosed or undertreated atrial fibrillation. In atrial fibrillation, the abnormal fluttering movement of the heart s atrial chambers increases the chances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The blood vessel in question may be a branch of a middle cerebral artery, producing the symptoms described above. In other cases, the vessel may be located deep inside the brain, causing a so called lacunar infarct, which can result in sensory or motor deficits (but seldom both). Hemorrhagic strokes can also result from head trauma or therapy with anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin. Currently, there is no specific treatment for most hemorrhagic strokes other than supportive care followed by occupational, physical, and speech therapy. In the appendix of this book, I propose a novel approach to acute stroke management. The most catastrophic form of hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a weak, bulging region in a blood vessel wall called an aneurysm ruptures, leading to a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Intracranial aneurysms are more common in people with polycystic kidney disease; still, the majority of cases are sporadic. People suffering from an SAH complain of the worst headache of their lives and often experience seizures and loss of consciousness. • 41. The Theory X And Theory Y Douglas McGregor, a social psychologist in the 1960 s, developed two theories for workplace employees (Theory X and Theory Y, 1996 2016). Theory X describes employees as unmotivated, irresponsible, they need to be controlled, and they dislike working. Theory Y describes employees as responsible, enthusiastic, motivated, and imaginative. As an employee, not in a Management position, I can say I appreciate a manager who follows the Theory Y description. Since I feel that way as an employee, I will strive to be that type of Manager. I will participate, guide, lead, and motivate my employees to want to do a good job, and truly love what they do every day. I do believe that there are many employees in the workforce who do not like to work. When I come across someone with these characteristics, it will be my job to change their views. A low dose of responsibility will most likely motivate people to do better. Unfortunately, there are still many people who have the pessimistic view on life, and nothing will change their ways. Participating and interacting with employees on a day to day basis shows your interest in their role. I can understand how applying Theory Y in large organizations may be difficult, but with the right management in place, each department can be managed with Theory Y roles. I believe many companies give up on the chance to give their employees the responsibility because it is easier to control and direct without consideration or involvement from the ... • 42. Compare And Contrast The Pardoner And Wife Of Bath s Tale To eat or not to eat. In this battle of concocted tales, this is where it all boils down to. Both the Pardoner and the Wife of Bath have surely produced fine stories, each with their own charm; however, it will not be a battle without a clear winner only one can enjoy a free meal. Although the Wife of Bath s Tale tapped into a strong topic genderequality it only stated that women want to be equal to men as well, but never delved in deeper. The story even disregards the problem at hand: a knight who raped a girl and got away scot free, even finding himself a beautiful and loyal wife. If the story went differently, the Wife of Bath s Tale has all the components of a great story. Meanwhile, the Pardoner s Tale , although short, successfully showed the corruptness that humans have, as well as the consequences if ever one finds themselves stuck in greed s vice grip. Therefore, the Pardoner s tale is better than the Wife of Bath s Tale because it delves into the darkness of humanity, the consequences when one has dug themselves too deep and shows how, despite people knowing the result of their misconduct, will still choose to sink further into darkness. They were after an honourable cause at first, the three rioters, but as soon as their eyes saw the yellow shimmer inside a bulging bag, they dropped everything and easily surrendered their minds to greed. • 44. Essay about Vocational Teacher Education Reform Vocational Teacher Education Reform The reform movements of the 1980s triggered numerous demands to reexamine and reform the way students and their teachers are educated. This Digest examines the implications for vocational teacher education emerging from general teacher education reform movements. It discusses how excellence in vocational education teaching can be achieved and proposes 21st century models for vocational teacher education. Impacts of Reform Movements on Vocational Teacher Education Several of the major reform initiatives of the 1980s and early 1990s argued that improving education requires improving teacher quality and, accordingly, teacher education. In response to mounting evidence of the deterioration of vocational teacher education, (Dykman 1993), the University Council for Vocational Education and the National Association of State Directors of Vocational Technical Education Consortium formed a joint task force that identified 13 points for initiating a reform process entailing designing and implementing a customer driven learning system and an accountability system (Lynch 1997). Like earlier publications examining general teacher education, the responses to the task force report focused on the need for excellence in vocational teacher education. Issues in Achieving Excellence Debate on the question of how to pursue excellence in vocational teacher education programs focused on vocational education s mission, audience, and delivery. New Mission? Until the advent of the reform movement, vocational education had been viewed as a separate system of education intended to meet the nation s labor needs by providing below college level training for specific occupations (Lynch 1997). In the late 1980s, that view began to change. Borrowing words used by Dewey in 1916, Tozer and Nelson (1988) urge vocational teacher educators to teach prospective teachers to provide students with generalizable higher order skills by teaching through vocations instead of for vocations (p. 22). Sharp (1996), in his discussion of the transition to a post Fordist economy, asserts that the recent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Vla Mobile Sticker Campaign The VLA mobile sticker campaign is a problem for many reasons. The first reason is that it manipulates its vast audience through negative, emotional appeals by sending a vivid message that affects them in a personal way the well being of their child could be at risk. The VLA s mobile sticker arouses an emotional, and cognitive response out of parents by embedding the idea that vaccines are harmful for children and setting up an illusion that their healthcare providers have deceived them. The VLA appeals to many different emotions such as fear, anger, hatred, and distrust. When people are fearful, they are easily overwhelmed with feelings and tend to make irrational decisions. Anger is another powerful emotion that is used in persuasion. In the book, Techniques of Propaganda and Persuasion, author Magedah Shabo explains, Anger often grows from feelings of fear and uncertainty. Anger is also a very common reaction to injustice, humiliation, or betrayal (117). Following fear and anger is hatred and distrust, another powerful motivator in persuasion. When emotions such as fear and anger towards a specific target have been established, hatred and distrust develop and limit a person s ability to reason with what is right versus wrong. Many parents with infants and children are vulnerable and quick to believe any propaganda they see regarding their child s health. Falsely stating that, The Greatest Lie Ever Told... That... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pneumoniae was identified as a common respiratory pathogen. Primarily, S. pneumoniae is a commonly found in the upper respiratory tracts as a normal flora in humans. S. pneumoniae is the most common cause of community acquired pneumonia where children are identified as the primary carriers (Choa, 2014). S. pneumoniae is so common that health care providers have noted key characteristics, making it apparent to detect and diagnose. More importantly, the common phenotypic features of S. pnuemoniae are characterized by its colonic morphology being that it is lancet shaped, catalase negative, optochin sensitivity and bile solubility. Pursuing this further, it is important to follow strict testing procedures to distinguish which pathogen is preset, according to their characteristics, in order to rule a diagnosis. Ideally, the First step in diagnosis of S. pneumoniae can be determined using a Catalase test. In this test, S. Pneumoniae shows up as catalase negative where further differentiation is made by the presence of a hemolytic pattern of partial hemolysis on the blood agar plate. Another way to diagnose S. Pneumoniae is by using an Optochin sensitivity test. This test is used to determine a specific classification of all Streptococcus bacteria. The chemical, optochin, is used in the Optochin test to detect the sensitivity of bacteria, and further differentiate which organism is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
