Political, Religious, And Social Institutions
Group B Question 4
Harriett Martineau can be considered the first sociologist, she not only influenced Marx s work on the
political economy, but brought positivism to the English speaking world. Martineau was the first to
collect data through observation, and speak for and to the people.
Martineau s reflections on Society in America, are prime examples of her sociological methods. Her
ideas in this field were set out in her book How to Observe Morals and Manners. She believed that
some very general social laws influence the life of any society. Martineau s main contribution to
sociology was her claim that when studying society, one has to focus on all aspects of it. She
emphasized the importance of examining political, religious, and social institutions. Martineau
believed that by studying society in this way, one could infer why inequality existed. She also was the
first to create a systematic method of qualitative data; through observation. Using qualitative data is
tremendously important because one is able to examine complex questions that can be difficult with
quantitative methods, it also allows for more in depth examination of a subject.
Harriett Martineau also made economic and social ideas and options understandable to the ordinary
people. Harriet had the gift of explaining difficult ideas. She wanted people specifically the working
class to be aware of their situation, to gain consciousness, by educating them through her writings, as
explained through this quote,

Discrimination In Classical Conditioning
1. Classical conditioning:
When I was younger, my parents argued a lot! The more it happened, the more I thought it was
normal. As a child, I believed that everyone argued in such a manner.
2. Discrimination in classical conditioning:
According to Carver (2010), discrimination stimulus is a cue that controls the occurrence of behavior.
In softball, there were different signs that my coach would give me. Certain signs meant to steal the
base on bunt. We he didn t want me to anything he would throw out random signs that meant nothing.
These signs would confuse the other team, so that they could not pick up on what we were
communicating.
3. Generalization in classical conditioning:

Positive reinforcement:
In school, I was motivated to read books as a child, not necessarily because I enjoyed them, but
because I was rewarded when I finished. If I finished the book and passed the test I would get points,
which I could exchange for pencils or other nik naks.
5. Negative reinforcement:
As a child, I would refuse to clean my room. If I didn t clean my room, my mom wouldn t let me
watch TV or play with my friends. Needless to say, I quickly changed those habits.
6. Discrimination in operant conditioning:
As I said earlier, my coach would use signals to tell me what to do when I was playing softball. I knew
which signal meant bunt and which meant steal. This is an example of discrimination, because I can
distinguish between the different signals.
7. Generalization in operant conditioning:
My grandmother taught me how to cook in her kitchen. Now, I can cook a meal in any kitchen.
8. Shaping in operant conditioning:
When I first started running, I would reward myself when I reached a quarter mile. Then, I would only
reward myself when I hit a half mile. I kept doing this until I finally reached a full mile. Then, I no
longer rewarded myself for running the mile.

Mahathir s involvement in politics actually started when he became a SABERKAS member (Imagine
the Nation of What Victims Only) in Kedah. Because SUBERKAS is an UMNO linked body, Dr
Mahathir automatically became a member of UMNO when it was set up on May 11, 1946. However,
in the early stages he was somewhat disliked by some state UMNO leaders at that time because of his
over progressive and predictive thinking time. Among the controversial proposals rejected by UMNO
Kedah is that he proposes that all candidates who wish to contest in the General Elections have a
certain level of education without having to rely solely on their experience in the political field. The
volume of defending the interests of the oppressed people and his courage to take a different opinion
from the majority also caused him to be sacked from UMNO for a moment in 1969. He re actively re
enrolled into Umno by second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak in March 1972 and was appointed as
Chairman of the Higher Education Council on June 6, 1972. Tun Abdul Razak appointed him as

Primitive Methodist Society Chapter 14
This chapter begins in the year that five working class MPs closely associated with the Primitive
Methodist Connexion entered the House of Commons. It ends prior to the South African War: a test of
Primitive Methodism s commitment to peace.
It will demonstrate that the Church and its members engaged increasingly in political activity,
primarily through a commitment to the Liberal Party. Their support for trade unions and the
prominence they gave to the Land Question was notable, a reflection of the interests of their core
membership: commonly miners and agricultural labourers residing in industrial villages and the
countryside. Their allegiance to the Liberal Party began to fracture during the Home Rule debate and
consequential to some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The miners had refused to accept significant wage reductions and the owners had locked them out.
The newspaper described the lockout as The Coal War and the dispute dominated its pages for several
months. Letters from Primitive Methodist ministers described the dire straits of those affected by the
dispute and asked for donations of clothes and money to assist those on strike. Huge numbers of
Primitive donors responded. However, in addition to alleviating distress, at least one minister took an
active part in demonstrations in favour of the miners, marching under his chapel banner. Another
chaired meetings in support of the miners and expressed his indignation at the conduct of the Masters
Federation . Although one anonymous correspondent to Primitive Methodist, while supporting the
justice of the miners case, blamed them for not accepting arbitration, the editorials and all other
correspondence were firmly behind the miners. One editorial blamed the coalowners for seeking such
a large reduction in wages, describing their actions as positive greed and a wrong headed policy on
their part . He continued by affirming the Connexion s sympathy with the miners, and with other
classes of toilers in this country . The miners deserved to be well paid . The Government eventually
interceded to end the dispute; an intervention warmly welcomed by the paper, which hoped for the
creation of Boards of Conciliation on which both employers and employees would be equally

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)
Urinary tract infections (UTI) is a disorder of the urinary system. Urinary tract infections take second
place in the category of most common infections in the body. They are caused when bacteria infringes
upon and multiplies in the urinary tract. The urethra is the point of entry for bacteria. Women are
susceptible to UTI s than men due to the shortness of the female urethra compared to the length of the
male urethra. The common signs and symptoms of UTI s are pain and burning while urinating, the
constant feeling to urinate, back pain, fever, pressure at the bottom of your belly, fatigue, ill repute
urine, reddish, and murky urine. A urine sample may be requested by the doctor for analyzing to
confirm a UTI. In this test the presence

Bartleby The Scrivener Research Paper
The Effects of Bartleby s Depression Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener is a story about a Wall
Street Lawyer dealing with a worker who refuses to do anything when asked. This worker, Bartleby,
initially starts off by being an excellent scrivener. However, when time passes, he starts refusing to
make copies or do any other task that he s required to do. During this period, Bartleby shows the
effects of depression because of his lack of motivation, social isolation, and refusal to eat. His lack of
motivation impacted Bartleby negatively, which will have negative consequences in his future.

Bartleby s depression affects the lawyer the most because he makes him move his office and also his
clients notice him there. In the New York Times article, the wife deals with her husband who
experiences depression. She states, The secrecy around his illness had a tremendous impact not just on
him, but on me. Yet because it was his illness, and he didn t want to talk about it, I felt as if I had no
right to talk about it either. So outside of my family and a few close friends, I didn t talk about it with
anyone (New York Times). The lawyer is going through the same type of experience as the wife does
because they were both getting impacted by someone else s depression. The Lawyer and the wife both
find it as a burden because it makes their lives harder. The lawyer finds Bartleby s depression as a
burden for being bad for business and husband s depression as being bad for the reduction of income.
Bartleby doesn t interact with any of the lawyer s clients and doesn t do anything at all in the office.

Feasibility Of Designing Partial Agonists Of The Human...
This article presents a study performed to demonstrate the feasibility of designing partial agonists of
the human muscarinic M1 receptor that would modulate the receptor in two distinct ways
simultaneously. It also explains the signaling behavior of the receptor.
The muscarinic M1 receptor was described as the one of five subtypes of the muscarinic G protein
coupled receptors (GPCRs) with the highest expression in the central nervous system. Two
downstream effects of activating the M1 receptor were identified, activating of phospholipase C
mainly by Gq/G11 proteins and influencing ion channels like the N methyl D aspartate (NMDA)
receptor and voltage gated Ca2+ channels. These two ion channels were reported to be therapeutic

The hybrids synthesized were classified into four main groups (2, 3, 4, and 5) based on the orthosteric
agonist, the allosteric moiety and the number of carbon atoms in the linker moiety.
Derivatives of benzyl quinolone carboxylic acids (BQCA), that function as positive allosteric
modulators and allosteric agonists of M1 receptors were linked with the M2 selective orthosteric
superagonist, Iperoxo in hybrids 2 and 3. In hybrid 4, another derivative of BQCA was linked with the
compound 1 (AF292), a M1 selective agonist. Hybrid 5 was synthesized with compound 1 linked to
the allosteric binding moiety of an allosteric agonist, 1 (1′ (2 methylbenzyl) 1,4′ bipiperidin 4 yl) 1H
benzo[d]imidazol 2(3H) one (TBPB) using linker moieties of three different lengths.
The response obtained when the receptors were saturated with Acetylcholine, the endogenous
muscarinic ligand, was defined as the system s maximal response. The data obtained from the DMR
measurements were reported to have been analyzed using the operational model of agonism for
dynamic ligands. From the results, iperoxo did not function as a superagonist at the M1 receptor. The
synthesized hybrid compounds in the groups 2 and 3 were observed to act as partial agonists at the M1
receptor. The substitutions on the quinolone moiety of group 2 compounds were said to have no

Athens And Sparta Political Realism Essay
1. How do Athens and Sparta behave in adherence to the concepts of political realism? Both in general
and with their military approach to the war as well as specific key incidents in the first 3 books.
Political realism being defined as: an approach to the study and practice of international politics. It
emphasizes the role of the nation state and makes a broad assumption that all nation states are
motivated by national interests, or, at best, national interests disguised as moral concerns. This
definition in a way cracks open the two sides of the conflict, what first began as a series of dialogues,
arguing between Corinth (Sparta s ally) and Corcyra, a colony of Corinth that quickly befriends
Athens as the war is starting to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government was so quick to make a decision to execute everyone rather than the ringleaders of
the revolt. However, luckily for the city, only the ring leaders were assassinated. This is just one
example throughout the book that shows that Athens is almost too quick to make decisions. On the
other hand Sparta has the exact opposite problem, the in ability to make decisions quickly. As Athens
was extremely confident in their plans, Sparta seemed reluctant to start a war until they felt it was
absolutely necessary. On page 39, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Corinth (an ally of Sparta) is quick to
call out the lack of responsibility and lack of action of Sparta which has led to the rise in Athenian
power. Also on page 47, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Archidamus tells the Spartans to ignore ignorant
calls for action against the Athenians and to calmly decide what is necessary in the future. Although
being sluggish in some senses, the Spartans declare war which shows allies they are ready for action
instead of sitting in the background. Sparta also seemed as if they were involved in a proxy war as
Athens seemed to be fighting Sparta s allies more than Sparta itself, which lends itself more to the
power taking a backseat approach to this whole war.

Essay on Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of Jesus. It will be
the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray Jesus as
entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition, namely the
Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive/predominant within
the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion that these merely
complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as Messiah and so, as such,
will not be investigated except where they promote this conclusion. This fulfilment of Judaic tradition

3:17; Isaiah 42:1). Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of Israel
s theological history personified.
Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of the
suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53 indicating a
definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope. Further, Farmer
suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30 Isaiah 53 s
redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of his
crucifixion.
Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents Jesus as
the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is intended to help
the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according to some scholars a type
of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly however, Matthew portrays
Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well as the messianic fulfilment of Old
Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15; 5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16,
42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46).

The National Security Agency Invasion
Living in a country that is known to be Land of the free... is not exactly what most people dream of.
The United States may be known for its freedom and power, but most people are unaware of the
covertness behind the government. And by now, almost every American citizen knows that privacy no
longer exists. In this century and country, it really does not. In the United States, most people look
toward the government as salvation, protection, and reliance. Unfortunately, not everything is as good
as it seems. Imagine your personal information, your daily conversations, and your daily actions being
viewed and judged by the government. This is exactly what the government does. Sometimes the
government is not always our solution; they can also be our problems.
National Security Agency (NSA) is also known as the President s Surveillance Program . It was first
implemented after the Twin Towers attack on September 11, 2001 by President George W. Bush. Soon
after, more surveillance programs sprouted in order to assist the National Security Agency. Some
surveillance programs include the FBI, IRS, Terrorist Scanning Center (TSC), Department of Defense
(DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), etc. All of these surveillance programs s main
purpose is to conduct a range of surveillance activities inside the United States in search for terrorists.
These surveillance activities required much information such as call histories, data records and other
personal information. This daily

The character Ophelia in William Shakespeare s Hamlet is seen as an important character in the play
due to her extreme violent reactions that can be seen as bizarre and peculiar. In the play Hamlet by
William Shakespeare, Ophelia can be seen as to have obviously gone mad, and she is treated
sympathetically, and her death is also treated with respect.
Ophelia s madness in the play consists of a mad language, violent reactions and distraught behaviour.
Ophelia is a subject of long time mental and emotional abuse at the hands of her father Polonius,
Claudius and Hamlet, a character who is suffering from mental illness himself. Thus her deranged
language might be considered reasonable, as through it, she reveals her unusually painful situation

Analgesic Pain Management
MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE PAIN
The choice of the pain management strategies depends on different factors including the site and the
nature of the surgery, type and intensity of pain, co morbidities and the ongoing clinical condition of
the patient.
As described earlier, whilst satisfactory pain relief is essential for the recovery of the critically ill
patients, care should be exercised to ensure that the analgesic techniques do not deteriorate the
condition (e.g. hypotension with epidural, respiratory depression with opioids, renal impairment with
Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]).
The management options can grossly be categorised to:
1. Analgesic medications (Paracetamol, NSAIDs, Opioids etc.)
2. Regional analgesic techniques (Local Anaesthetics +/ Opioids)
Commonly, a combination of medications / local anaesthetic techniques is employed for safe and
effect pain relief. The World Health Organisation analgesic ladder was introduced to improve cancer
pain control. The concept is extrapolated to other pain conditions as well as the intensity of the pain
increases, the complexity of the interventions also increase.
1. Step 1: Simple analgesics (Paracetamol +/ NSAIDs)
2. Step 2: Weak Opioids (such as Codeine) +/ Simple analgesics
3. Step 3: Stronger Opioids (such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
where nerves are injured), conventional analgesics may not provide satisfactory relief. The issue is
further compounded if the patient has past history of chronic pain. Regional analgesic techniques
(discussed below) can help. When traditional interventions fail, co analgesics such as anticonvulsants
(e.g. gabapentin), antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline) or Ketamine (5 10 mg per hour intravenous
infusion) may be used. It is prudent to seek help from the hospital acute pain team prior to embarking

Throughout the first act of the film, just by being introduced to Sarah s family the audience can see
that Sarah is a stubborn and selfish character. However, as Sarah is first implied as being elaborate and
mean we also see Sarah s considerate side come out as she begs the Goblin King to give Toby back to
her.
The first character from the labyrinth Sarah is introduced to is the Goblin King Jareth himself, who is
the antagonist in the film. Jareth takes Toby as he believes this is what Sarah wants.
Throughout the film we see that Sarah is drawn to the character of Jareth, however she also shows
annoyance towards the character. We see she initially has an connection to Jareth at the start of the
film as she s reading the book. Jareth gives Sarah the opportunity to grow courage and heroic
characteristics throughout the film. He does this by taunting her. We see that Sarah s character develop
as she gains courage and becomes heroic in the last act when she defeated Jareth. Jareth says at the
beginning of the second act when they are both outside the labyrinth Go back to your room, play with
your toys. When Jareth says this, it suggests Sarah is childish. However this can also be perceived as
Jareth taunting Sarah into taking up his challenge of the labyrinth. We then see Sarah pluck up the
courage to follow out this challenge.
Another example of Jareth testing Sarah is when he makes Hoggle give Sarah the peach. Sarah eats

Basic Concept Of Ballet
The Basic Concepts
A. Definition of a Classical Ballet Company based on the History of Ballet.
To define what in this research is considered as a classical ballet company, first the terms ballet and
classical ballet have to be determined. As classical ballet encompasses a wide range of ballet genres
wherein the classical technique is applied, a definition of romantic ballet, white ballet, neoclassical
and contemporary ballet is appropriate. To come to a clear definition and classification of the different
genres, mentioning their historical evolution is inevitable.
To distinguish classical ballet from contemporary or modern dance, the latest will briefly be described
in this chapter as well.

From a stance, many can understand the ongoing struggles that China faced while dealing with the
establishment of the Republic of China. Soong Ching ling took on tolls as she dealt with personal
difficulties as well taking on the responsibilities and actions of Sun Yat Sen. China has a background
of struggles, from being overpopulated to economic issues. In her book, The Struggle for New China
by Soong Ching ling herself, Soong Ching ling and her husband took on difficult tasks as they
attempted to fix the fundamental patterns arising back then and still today. In 1948 she became
honorary chairman of the Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee, a splinter group organized in Hong
Kong to oppose Chiang Kai shek s Kuomintang. After the establishment of the People s Republic of
China in 1949, Song remained on the mainland, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the source, The Three Stages of Revolution 1918. by Sun Yat Sen, he covers the idealistic reasoning
for dealing with a revolution. In his article, he describes his role as an influential leader and how that
has come into play with forming the Republic of China. This source connects with Soong Ching ling
being that she too had a leadership role and followed the same beliefs that Sun Yat Sen acquired while
being the leader of China and facing many difficulties. Sun Yat Sen faced many difficulties mainly
with structure. For example, the United League was unorganized being that Sun had no power over
the individual members. In 1907, the Japanese government provided Sun Yat Sen a sum of money and
asked him to leave the country. A year later French Indochina, where Sun had hatched several plots,
banned him completely. These are just a few difficulties that basically explain Sen s purpose of

Optical Fiber Sensors Essay
Optical fiber sensors are very important devices to detect and monitor ionizing radiation in nuclear
based technologies such as industrial radiography, nuclear medicine, spacecraft and satellite
instrumentation, and also in nuclear power facilities. Reliability of other conventional radiation
detectors in space and terrestrial application is much affected by electromagnetic interference and
exposure to fire and explosion potential hazards. However the functionality of optical fiber at
extremely high dose radiation still a challenge where radiation induced attenuation can be increased
for permanent damage of the sensor. There is a need to develop a new sensing material with small

2013). There is a need to replace 3H based sensor to detect neutron in context of nuclear
nonproliferation(Runkle 2011) and silica optical fiber with better resistant to radiation damage (Xue et
al. 2012) is the other very close a safe cheaper possible neutron sensor to be considered. In addition,
its other characteristic of having low attenuation losses provides a wide bandwidth for long distance
wireless communication so that the exposure of radiation to workers can be avoided during radiation
detection and monitoring operation.
Ionizing radiation such as x ray, gamma, alpha, beta and neutron radiations, are not only harmful to
human health(Azzam et al. 2012) and environment(Mothersill Seymour 2014), but also can damage
the electronic devices(Wang et al. 2014). The source of these ionizing radiations are from radioactive
materials, x ray tubes, particle accelerators such as ion beams, nuclear weapons and reactors, cosmic
rays from space and from natural rocks and minerals. Exposure of extremely high energy
electromagnetic radiation such as x ray can lead to failure in silicon sensors(Klanner et al. 2013). The
increasing radiation induced attenuation can lead to permanent damage of optical fiber(Kovačević et
al. 2013). So there is a need to develop better sensors with good radiation resistance such as Ge doped
optical fiber sensors in radiant environment.
SiO2 and plastic type optical fiber are two types of material used in any research and development of

The Dark Knight Figures In The Dark Knight Rises

(WORKING TITLE) Batman s duality as hero and hazard reflect how the capitalism present in
America is both the problem and solution. As the third installment in the Batman trilogy, a different
tone is used when the hero is introduced in the beginning scene. In the preceding films, the hero has
been seen righting wrongs and serving justice by banishing the manipulative, toxic and evil villains
Gotham is infested with. In the opening scene of The Dark Knight Rises, Commissioner Gordon
delivers a speech to honor the late Harvey Dent, former Gotham mayor, and his major contribution in
ridding the city s criminal activity. Dent was a symbol of hope and restoration from the economic
decline Gotham faced and the gang activity that terrorized the streets. Batman 2: The Dark Knight
introduced the villainous Joker and his psychotic madness which led to Dent s own decline when the
madman kills Dent s lover. This sparked Dent s own madness and list of homicides. Wanting to
preserve the hope Dent instilled onto the people and prevent chaos, Batman takes the blame for Dent s
transgression. And so, begins the duality of Batman.
Batman is the alter ego of wealthy and successful business man, Bruce Wayne. Wayne s parents were
tragically murdered right in front of him when he was young by an armed robber. This was the
moment Wayne took an oath to himself that he would rid his city of the injustice and crime that killed

Gun Control And The Gun Laws
[Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines]
Introduction
Last year, then Republican candidate Carly Fiorina claimed that states with strict gun laws had the
highest gun crime rate in the nation (Robertson, 2015). The following month, President Barack Obama
stated that states with stricter gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths (Robertson, 2015). The
West might have been won with a Smith Wesson, but in our modern society guns are the subject of
much debate. While some groups push for fewer guns and more gun control, others insist that
increased gun control leads to increased crime. Both sides cite statistics in support of their views, yet
experts who have reviewed the same data have concluded that the data is inconclusive. The contenders
on both sides don t ever address the other factors that contribute to crime, such as poverty, racial
tensions, a strained and overworked police force, and the deterioration of family social structure. As a
nation, we need to move beyond the never ending debate over gun control. We need to work out a
compromise that will help law enforcement put a stop to these terrible mass shootings while
preserving Second Amendment rights.
History
The first modern American gun control law was the National Firearm Act of 1934. It was passed in an
effort to curb mass shooting of that time (The Washington Post, 2012). This law was followed by the
National Firearms Act of 1938, the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, the Brady

Power Of Story Analysis
Wk2 The Power of Story Response
Story telling from the beginning of time has been a past time that has been carried on from generation
to generation. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history.
I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and
uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were
exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely difficult
times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition.
Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a
comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive and
non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force feeding
information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically.
Today, our pastor preached on the prodigal son. This is a story that most people can identify with. I
know I can because I have personally experienced being restless, reckless, wretched, and wanting to
leave home and live the worldly way. I had good role models at home, but could not resist ... Show

By listening and/ or seeing stories, people transition content from their short term memory to their
long term memory. On top of this benefit, telling a story is an effective way of bridging the cognitive
learning theory and the humanistic learning theory. Both of which must be applied in order for truth to
be successfully understood. Finally, this method of educating is something that Jesus Christ, the
master teacher, employed when teaching his followers and is a method that Christian educators in the
twenty first century must take a hold of and use as they try to teach truth their generation (Storytelling

Differences And Similaristics Of Greek And Roman Architecture
Greek and Roman civilizations have created some of the most inveterate and meaningful images in

names. They both concentrated on using their structural concepts that match their ideal ratios. And as
any two consecutive, greatly attached civilizations .there are many points of comparisons regarding
their building types, building techniques, materials and art. As long as the presence of differences
there are many similarities that actually exist.
If we started with the similarities between them, we would find out that they both concerned about
symmetry, using stonework (marble), columns, and esplanades. They brought up numerous statues and
esteemed the human compose. Although difference between Greek and Roman architecture are not so
clear for some, they look alike in many things. However, it does not mean lack of difference at all
between both of them.

My Writing

What I Really Learned in English 100

said that if I go one mile to meet him, he will go two miles to meet me, which seems more that fair. As

and my writing will have improved.
My Experience With Writing Arguments
I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a research paper
with the intent to change people s minds on a certain subject. I remember researching for weeks in the
library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for enough information to write a ten
page paper. The writing process of the paper took several weeks but when I had finished, all the hard
work was worth the effort. I learned many things from that course such as that you need to search for
all the information you can because it is better to have too much information than not enough. Also
that course taught me many things about making references to the authors of the articles I used for my
paper. I remember writing out note card after note card and keeping all the necessary information
about each book or magazine. That course taught me to become a better writer and to respect how
much detail really goes into a research paper like I had written. Other than that, I have not really had

Stereotypes In Stargirl By Jerry Spinelli
Is being a one of a kind a key to success? Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is a novel about a girl that attends a
new school and everyone starts to become aware of the fact that she is not normal . As people start
getting to know Stargirl, they start to realize that she is quite annoying due to her distinctive
personality. For instance, she starts going around the lunchroom and starts singing happy birthday to
whomever when it s their birthday. From this I can infer the author s intended message is to be
nobody, but yourself in a world where everyone expects you be just like them. This message was
revealed throughout the story in many situations. As Stargirl was new at Mica High, she had no one to
sit with, but as time passed one day the text stated No longer did Stargirl eat ... Show more content on

winning record. In the journey of Stargirl s cheerleading career she had gained an enormous amount of
popularity until one day. Stargirl made a big mistake that the crowd didn t like her for, but in her
opinion she thought it was the right thing to do. As Stargirl was cheering she decided to cheer for the
other team and help a boy on the other team when he got hurt. When the crowd saw this they were
shunned. The negative comments the crowd had said got to Stargirl they made her tremendously
disappointed. The theme was evident by Stargirl not giving up on herself even though she lost her

Perspectives on China
In February of 2012, as I was reviewing the information about the Darden s GEMBA program,
specifically the locations of the global residencies, it was hard for me to be excited about going to
China. It would be my sixth time visiting the country. At the time, I was hoping for a more unique
location, somewhere where I had not been, yet somewhere where, from a business perspective it
would be a valid place to go. How about Japan or South Korea, I pondered.
But no, it was China, a place that I explored on multiple occasions, and a place I learned to like. To
make things worse, the destinations cities where the most obvious: Shanghai and Beijing. What else is
out there, that I have not seen and what else I can learn from visiting it again? My ... Show more

Shanghai welcomed me with a taxi driver who refused to show me his meter readout, hijacked my cell
phone until I promised to pay him the outrageous taxi fee (long story culminating in me not paying
him the outrageous fee), throwing my suitcase of his trunk and driving off with his trunk up so I could
not capture his license plate. Not a bad start, I thought maybe I learn something after all.
Tia Zi Feng was everything I expected, crowded, cobble stone streets with many tiny shops, cafes, and
art galleries. My host Jamie, who had a New Zealand souvenir store at the bottom of the studio was
very welcoming. My first night he invited me to join him and a few fellow Westerners to a Shanghai
style restaurant situated in an old local style mansion. The experience was wonderful; and I had a
chance to meet some interesting yet very different people; from a yoga/photographer woman from
Minnesota, who was just finishing her three year Asian adventure to an English teacher from Ohio, to
an software entrepreneur from Oregon. Impressively they were all more or less fluent in Mandarin,
which I greeted with envy as my one and a half years of learning the language had been not the most
fruitful to say the least.
But then it was time to go and meet the GEMBA 13. It was so exciting to see the guys again. The
schedule looked intense and I started to think, contrary to my previous assertion, that I may learn
something.

Religion, Money, And The Scientific Revolution
The modern world was created through many events such as Scientific Revolutions, factors such as
religion, money, and even the creation and fall of widely known empires. With these revolutions,
factors and institutions it shaped the world from the start to how we see the world now. One revolution
couldn t happen without the start of another down the road, and the fall of one empire would spark the
start of another. These are only a few reasons of how the modern world was created. The most
important ones that shaped the world we live in today are religion, money, and the Scientific
Revolution.
Religion can be defined as a system of human norms and values that is founded on a belief in a
superhuman order (p.210). Religion helped cultures define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Without the evolution of money from shells and skills that people had we would not have bills and
coins and our trade would be limited greatly and this would not make us a modern world. A money
system needed to happen for the world to continue effectively. As well as the evolution of religion this
plays a big part in how we communicate with each other. If religion empires would have not been
conquered by people who believe in humanist religions we could possibly still be under a rule where
people have to summit to a certain religion. Lastly the Scientific Revolution was able to shape our
modern world for the best. The Scientific Revolution almost coincided with the Industrial Revolution
in that new technology emerged. It also created modern medicine which is vital to anyone in todays
world. Although it funded capitalist creed it was not such a bad thing because we need capital in our
world to keep finding new findings. People are not just going to go and explore unknown parts of the
world for free. Our modern world is a beautiful place even though some issues that occurred during
the formation of modernization the planet are still being worked on today.

Connection To Australian Communities
Jesse Sheals, Parklands High School TAS.
Bring the community connection back to life. In every town, in every city from the West Coast of
Tasmania to Arnhem in the Northern Territory. Every Australian is part of many broad communities.
But why would I write about bringing the Australian community back to life you may ask. Here is my
answer, I grew up in a small town on the West Coast of Tasmania, our community was strong, our
community was fun, nevertheless, we always had something to do around the town, but now that
community and many other communities have slowly died with major need of revival for Australia s
youth and families across our pristine country.
Our communities need a shakeup to give our local youth and families the best chance in life.
Currently, the communities have lost contact with the people causing fewer opportunities within local
areas and leaving Australia s youth jaded with few options to make the utmost of their childhood. I
believe it is important for communities to be in contact with each other to reconnect and create a range

about the problems within our community they would be able to use the advice accordingly to work

On Why Are More American Teenagers Than Ever Suffering...
Quan Thi
Reflection Paper #2 The New York Times article revealed that there s an increasing number of
teenagers suffering from severe anxiety as a result of several factors. Some of these factors include the
increasing standards to succeed in this society as well as the advancement of technologies in the past
decade. After reading Why Are More American Teenagers Than Ever Suffering From Severe Anxiety?
by the New York Times regarding the increasing prevalence of severe anxiety among teenagers, I
begin to question what have changed so much to cause this epidemic as most teenagers, especially
high school and college students, have experienced anxiety or depression to some degree at some
point in their lives. Anxiety is something that most people have on a daily basis and in a small amount,
it s a signal that encouraged people to take action and resolve the conflict that has been bothering
them. But now, many teenagers are diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder and I believed the reason
for this is the increasing standards that teenagers have to face. For example, the growing requirements
for getting admitted into a competitive college is a major stressor for most high school students. In
addition to academic, these students need to distinguish themselves from their peers by being involved
in extracurricular activities or volunteer if they want any chance to get into a competitive college.
Because of this, I think many students forced themselves to be perfect in every

  • 2. Political, Religious, And Social Institutions Group B Question 4 Harriett Martineau can be considered the first sociologist, she not only influenced Marx s work on the political economy, but brought positivism to the English speaking world. Martineau was the first to collect data through observation, and speak for and to the people. Martineau s reflections on Society in America, are prime examples of her sociological methods. Her ideas in this field were set out in her book How to Observe Morals and Manners. She believed that some very general social laws influence the life of any society. Martineau s main contribution to sociology was her claim that when studying society, one has to focus on all aspects of it. She emphasized the importance of examining political, religious, and social institutions. Martineau believed that by studying society in this way, one could infer why inequality existed. She also was the first to create a systematic method of qualitative data; through observation. Using qualitative data is tremendously important because one is able to examine complex questions that can be difficult with quantitative methods, it also allows for more in depth examination of a subject. Harriett Martineau also made economic and social ideas and options understandable to the ordinary people. Harriet had the gift of explaining difficult ideas. She wanted people specifically the working class to be aware of their situation, to gain consciousness, by educating them through her writings, as explained through this quote, ... • 3. Discrimination In Classical Conditioning 1. Classical conditioning: When I was younger, my parents argued a lot! The more it happened, the more I thought it was normal. As a child, I believed that everyone argued in such a manner. 2. Discrimination in classical conditioning: According to Carver (2010), discrimination stimulus is a cue that controls the occurrence of behavior. In softball, there were different signs that my coach would give me. Certain signs meant to steal the base on bunt. We he didn t want me to anything he would throw out random signs that meant nothing. These signs would confuse the other team, so that they could not pick up on what we were communicating. 3. Positive reinforcement: In school, I was motivated to read books as a child, not necessarily because I enjoyed them, but because I was rewarded when I finished. If I finished the book and passed the test I would get points, which I could exchange for pencils or other nik naks. 5. Negative reinforcement: As a child, I would refuse to clean my room. If I didn t clean my room, my mom wouldn t let me watch TV or play with my friends. Needless to say, I quickly changed those habits. 6. Discrimination in operant conditioning: As I said earlier, my coach would use signals to tell me what to do when I was playing softball. I knew which signal meant bunt and which meant steal. This is an example of discrimination, because I can distinguish between the different signals. 7. Generalization in operant conditioning: My grandmother taught me how to cook in her kitchen. Now, I can cook a meal in any kitchen. 8. Shaping in operant conditioning:

Mahathir s involvement in politics actually started when he became a SABERKAS member (Imagine the Nation of What Victims Only) in Kedah. Because SUBERKAS is an UMNO linked body, Dr Mahathir automatically became a member of UMNO when it was set up on May 11, 1946. However, in the early stages he was somewhat disliked by some state UMNO leaders at that time because of his over progressive and predictive thinking time. Among the controversial proposals rejected by UMNO Kedah is that he proposes that all candidates who wish to contest in the General Elections have a certain level of education without having to rely solely on their experience in the political field. The volume of defending the interests of the oppressed people and his courage to take a different opinion from the majority also caused him to be sacked from UMNO for a moment in 1969. He re actively re enrolled into Umno by second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak in March 1972 and was appointed as Chairman of the Higher Education Council on June 6, 1972. Tun Abdul Razak appointed him as Education Minister in 1974. • 6. Primitive Methodist Society Chapter 14 This chapter begins in the year that five working class MPs closely associated with the Primitive Methodist Connexion entered the House of Commons. It ends prior to the South African War: a test of Primitive Methodism s commitment to peace. It will demonstrate that the Church and its members engaged increasingly in political activity, primarily through a commitment to the Liberal Party. Their support for trade unions and the prominence they gave to the Land Question was notable, a reflection of the interests of their core membership: commonly miners and agricultural labourers residing in industrial villages and the countryside. Their allegiance to the Liberal Party began to fracture during the Home Rule debate and consequential to some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The miners had refused to accept significant wage reductions and the owners had locked them out. The newspaper described the lockout as The Coal War and the dispute dominated its pages for several months. Letters from Primitive Methodist ministers described the dire straits of those affected by the dispute and asked for donations of clothes and money to assist those on strike. Huge numbers of Primitive donors responded. However, in addition to alleviating distress, at least one minister took an active part in demonstrations in favour of the miners, marching under his chapel banner. Another chaired meetings in support of the miners and expressed his indignation at the conduct of the Masters Federation . Although one anonymous correspondent to Primitive Methodist, while supporting the justice of the miners case, blamed them for not accepting arbitration, the editorials and all other correspondence were firmly behind the miners. One editorial blamed the coalowners for seeking such a large reduction in wages, describing their actions as positive greed and a wrong headed policy on their part . He continued by affirming the Connexion s sympathy with the miners, and with other classes of toilers in this country . The miners deserved to be well paid . The Government eventually interceded to end the dispute; an intervention warmly welcomed by the paper, which hoped for the creation of Boards of Conciliation on which both employers and employees would be equally ... • 9. Feasibility Of Designing Partial Agonists Of The Human... This article presents a study performed to demonstrate the feasibility of designing partial agonists of the human muscarinic M1 receptor that would modulate the receptor in two distinct ways simultaneously. It also explains the signaling behavior of the receptor. The muscarinic M1 receptor was described as the one of five subtypes of the muscarinic G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) with the highest expression in the central nervous system. Two downstream effects of activating the M1 receptor were identified, activating of phospholipase C mainly by Gq/G11 proteins and influencing ion channels like the N methyl D aspartate (NMDA) receptor and voltage gated Ca2+ channels. The hybrids synthesized were classified into four main groups (2, 3, 4, and 5) based on the orthosteric agonist, the allosteric moiety and the number of carbon atoms in the linker moiety. Derivatives of benzyl quinolone carboxylic acids (BQCA), that function as positive allosteric modulators and allosteric agonists of M1 receptors were linked with the M2 selective orthosteric superagonist, Iperoxo in hybrids 2 and 3. In hybrid 4, another derivative of BQCA was linked with the compound 1 (AF292), a M1 selective agonist. Hybrid 5 was synthesized with compound 1 linked to the allosteric binding moiety of an allosteric agonist, 1 (1′ (2 methylbenzyl) 1,4′ bipiperidin 4 yl) 1H benzo[d]imidazol 2(3H) one (TBPB) using linker moieties of three different lengths. The response obtained when the receptors were saturated with Acetylcholine, the endogenous muscarinic ligand, was defined as the system s maximal response. The data obtained from the DMR measurements were reported to have been analyzed using the operational model of agonism for dynamic ligands. From the results, iperoxo did not function as a superagonist at the M1 receptor. The synthesized hybrid compounds in the groups 2 and 3 were observed to act as partial agonists at the M1 receptor. • 10. Athens And Sparta Political Realism Essay 1. How do Athens and Sparta behave in adherence to the concepts of political realism? Both in general and with their military approach to the war as well as specific key incidents in the first 3 books. Political realism being defined as: an approach to the study and practice of international politics. It emphasizes the role of the nation state and makes a broad assumption that all nation states are motivated by national interests, or, at best, national interests disguised as moral concerns. This definition in a way cracks open the two sides of the conflict, what first began as a series of dialogues, arguing between Corinth (Sparta s ally) and Corcyra, a colony of Corinth that quickly befriends Athens as the war is starting to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government was so quick to make a decision to execute everyone rather than the ringleaders of the revolt. However, luckily for the city, only the ring leaders were assassinated. This is just one example throughout the book that shows that Athens is almost too quick to make decisions. On the other hand Sparta has the exact opposite problem, the in ability to make decisions quickly. As Athens was extremely confident in their plans, Sparta seemed reluctant to start a war until they felt it was absolutely necessary. On page 39, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Corinth (an ally of Sparta) is quick to call out the lack of responsibility and lack of action of Sparta which has led to the rise in Athenian power. Also on page 47, (, Crawley, Strassler, 1996) Archidamus tells the Spartans to ignore ignorant calls for action against the Athenians and to calmly decide what is necessary in the future. Although being sluggish in some senses, the Spartans declare war which shows allies they are ready for action instead of sitting in the background. Sparta also seemed as if they were involved in a proxy war as Athens seemed to be fighting Sparta s allies more than Sparta itself, which lends itself more to the power taking a backseat approach to this whole war. 2. • 11. Essay on Matthew s Christology Matthew s Christology Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of Jesus. It will be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition, namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive/predominant within the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion that these merely complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as Messiah and so, as such, will not be investigated except where they promote this conclusion. Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of Israel s theological history personified. Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53 indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope. Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30 Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of his crucifixion. Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15; 5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46). In the United States, most people look toward the government as salvation, protection, and reliance. Unfortunately, not everything is as good as it seems. Imagine your personal information, your daily conversations, and your daily actions being viewed and judged by the government. This is exactly what the government does. Sometimes the government is not always our solution; they can also be our problems. National Security Agency (NSA) is also known as the President s Surveillance Program . Ophelia In Hamlet The character Ophelia in William Shakespeare s Hamlet is seen as an important character in the play due to her extreme violent reactions that can be seen as bizarre and peculiar. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Ophelia can be seen as to have obviously gone mad, and she is treated sympathetically, and her death is also treated with respect. Ophelia s madness in the play consists of a mad language, violent reactions and distraught behaviour. Ophelia is a subject of long time mental and emotional abuse at the hands of her father Polonius, Claudius and Hamlet, a character who is suffering from mental illness himself. Analgesic Pain Management MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE PAIN The choice of the pain management strategies depends on different factors including the site and the nature of the surgery, type and intensity of pain, co morbidities and the ongoing clinical condition of the patient. As described earlier, whilst satisfactory pain relief is essential for the recovery of the critically ill patients, care should be exercised to ensure that the analgesic techniques do not deteriorate the condition (e.g. hypotension with epidural, respiratory depression with opioids, renal impairment with Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs]). The management options can grossly be categorised to: 1. Analgesic medications (Paracetamol, NSAIDs, Opioids etc.) 2. Regional analgesic techniques (Local Anaesthetics +/ Opioids) Commonly, a combination of medications / local anaesthetic techniques is employed for safe and effect pain relief. The World Health Organisation analgesic ladder was introduced to improve cancer pain control. The concept is extrapolated to other pain conditions as well as the intensity of the pain increases, the complexity of the interventions also increase. 1. The Dark Knight Figures In The Dark Knight Rises Monica Yip Carrie Jean Schroeder English 1C 30 August 2017 (WORKING TITLE) Batman s duality as hero and hazard reflect how the capitalism present in America is both the problem and solution. As the third installment in the Batman trilogy, a different tone is used when the hero is introduced in the beginning scene. In the preceding films, the hero has been seen righting wrongs and serving justice by banishing the manipulative, toxic and evil villains Gotham is infested with. In the opening scene of The Dark Knight Rises, Commissioner Gordon delivers a speech to honor the late Harvey Dent, former Gotham mayor, and his major contribution in ridding the city s criminal activity. Dent was a symbol of hope and restoration from the economic decline Gotham faced and the gang activity that terrorized the streets. Batman 2: The Dark Knight introduced the villainous Joker and his psychotic madness which led to Dent s own decline when the madman kills Dent s lover. This sparked Dent s own madness and list of homicides. Wanting to preserve the hope Dent instilled onto the people and prevent chaos, Batman takes the blame for Dent s transgression. And so, begins the duality of Batman. Batman is the alter ego of wealthy and successful business man, Bruce Wayne. Gun Control And The Gun Laws [Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines] Introduction Last year, then Republican candidate Carly Fiorina claimed that states with strict gun laws had the highest gun crime rate in the nation (Robertson, 2015). The following month, President Barack Obama stated that states with stricter gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths (Robertson, 2015). The West might have been won with a Smith Wesson, but in our modern society guns are the subject of much debate. While some groups push for fewer guns and more gun control, others insist that increased gun control leads to increased crime. Both sides cite statistics in support of their views, yet experts who have reviewed the same data have concluded that the data is inconclusive. The contenders on both sides don t ever address the other factors that contribute to crime, such as poverty, racial tensions, a strained and overworked police force, and the deterioration of family social structure. As a nation, we need to move beyond the never ending debate over gun control. We need to work out a compromise that will help law enforcement put a stop to these terrible mass shootings while preserving Second Amendment rights. History The first modern American gun control law was the National Firearm Act of 1934. It was passed in an effort to curb mass shooting of that time (The Washington Post, 2012). The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history. I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely difficult times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition. Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a comfortable atmosphere for learning.
