Amtelecom Group
1. What does it mean if a company trades at a discount ? Is Amtelecom Group Inc. (AGI) really
trading at a discount?
If the market value of a stock is lower than its intrinsic value, this stock is defined as trades at a
discount . To figure out whether AGI stock is traded at a discount to comparable companies, as its
management believed, we can simply apply multiple which comes from the average multiple of its
comparable companies. Considering fluctuation of future after tax earnings caused by the change in
capital structure, we prefer to use TEV/EBITDA multiple in this case. Amtelecom Group consists of
two lines of business which has to been taken into consideration. We separately calculate the value of
both companies and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.2 Strengths and weaknesses of Amtelecom Communications
Strength: Amtelecom Communications is the sole provider of local telephone services in all of its
exchanges and a leading provider of long distance and data services in the majority of his exchanges.
As a sole provider of some services, Amtelecom Communications ensures the constant revenue and
customers. Its subsidiary, Amtelecom Cable inc. has eight stand alone systems exempt from licensing.
The cost advantage ensures the leading position of Amtelecom Communications.
Weakness: Amtelecom Communication s telecommunication business occupies 90 percent of its all
business. If there is an unforeseeable risk occurring in telecommunications, the company may suffer
devastating loss. Company should focus more on new growth point, such as internet and service
innovation.
4. Assess the value of Amtelecom Communications using available valuation methods including DCF
and multiples. Which valuation method is most suitable for each sales alternative? What are the
expected net proceeds for each sales alternative?
Because the management of AGI expects to complete the acquisition by early 2003, the valuation of
the Amtelecom Communication should be calculated for 31 Dec, 2002. In order to calculate the NPV
of Amtelecom Communication during the planning period, we first use pro forma

Nephrolithiasis And Kidney Stones
KIDNEY STONES
What are Kidney Stones?
Kidney Stones are also called Renal Calculi. Nephrolithiasis is the condition of having Kidney Stones
. These stones come about from chemicals in the urine, forming a tough crystalline mineral deposit
from within the kidney, that stick together inside the kidney or urinary tract. Typically, they develop in
the inner surfaces of one or both of the kidneys. Supersaturation urine is what actually creates the
stones, this happens when there is an imbalance in the waste chemicals in the urine, which then causes
the stones. As to under saturation urine crystals cannot be formed due to lack of calcium produced.
They can be as little as a grain of sand that can be invisible to the naked eye, or as large as a golf ...

to be affected than people who are normal weight.
Symptoms
Furthermore, kidney stone may not cause any symptoms until it moves within the kidney and or
passes into your ureter, which also can be dreadfully painful when passing through. However, it does
not cause any permanent damages. Some of the symptoms that you might experience are, severe pain
in the side and back, pain below the ribs, pain that spreads to the lower abdomen and groin. The
discomfort can come in multiple waves, fluctuate or be very intense. The pain may last for a brief or
extended time. Some individuals experience nausea and vomiting with the pain.
Diagnoses
Kidney stones can be diagnosed by your provider through physical exams and medical history. They

Puritans Inundating Society
It is obvious to anyone who has a genuine understanding of the Puritans, to arrive at the conclusion
that they relied heavily on their individual liberates. Despite the fact that, it is generally accepted by
most, that the Puritans were an inundating society. This is merely a hasty generalization. Regardless of
how outsiders viewed the Puritans, they accomplished remarkable deeds over their duration in history.
For starters, the Catholic Church s opinion on the Puritan s perspective on sex, marriage, and women
was interpreted as unnerving. To better illustrate, according to Ryken, the Catholics views of the act of
sex was only to be preformed in the sanctity of marriage. Albeit this credence is well justified, the fact

Due to the company s acquisition of Cadbury, they have increased their debt level which in turn has

Heritable Race Based Slavery And Indentured Servitude Essay
1. Heritable Race Based Slavery Indentured Servitude:
a. Heritable Race Based Slavery:
Heritable Race Based Slavery was essentially similar to indentured servitude because indentured
servitude led to heritable race based slavery in certain ways. Without indentured servitude, they would
have never gotten to the need to use heritable race based slavery. Which is following in the condition
of the mother. The children of a slave mother are born into slavery. They are born into slavery and
they are going to be a slave because their mother is. It used to be following in the condition of the
father, but what father is a slave? It was rare, especially if you have a mulatto child. The father would
be white. So, to avoid having all these free black children, who should be slaves ( Follow The Money
) they used the condition of the mother. The mother is always a slave, so therefore, they make money
and get more slaves out of the deal. You have a generation to generation guaranteed slave, what more
could you want?
b. Indentured Slavery:
Indentured Servitude is where you can say it all started. Indentured Servitude was used for 4 7 years to
pay off a debt. It could be extended, but there was always a promise that it would end (you would gain
freedom) and that you would get land when it was over and settled with. Indentured Servitude also
had blacks and whites together. They were not separated like they were with slavery, which was
strictly blacks. Indentured Servitude was not passed

Optometrist Application Narrative
Many children and adults are unsure about going to the eye doctor. The word optometrist alone is
difficult to say, but for many the fear may lie in the uncertainty of how the doctor can look beyond the
general outside of the eye and tell exactly what is making vision difficult or the cause of pain. I began
understanding this at an early age.
My interest in the anatomy of the eye began when I was a small child. I was 8 years old when my
father experienced retinal detachment in the first eye. I didn t understand a whole lot of what was
happening when my brother and I were whisked up and on a plane to a hospital in Portland for
surgery. During the long wait, my mother began describing what was happening in my father s eye. I
remember sitting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helped me solidify my interest in helping people with their vision and eye care. I was able to pick
up on how an optometrist goes about his day to day activities and talked with a few of them about the
business side of their practice. Recently, before applying to schools, I was hired at a local optometry
office close to Boise State. The job as a pre tester has allowed me to be trained in using a tonometer,
auto refractor, visual field machine, optomap, and the OCT machine. I have had a vast experience
working in the private practice and really can see myself in an office similar to this one. The job has
been all I have expected and ensured my career choice for serving people in vision health care and
becoming an optometrist. Shadowing and working as a pre tester have given me first hand exposure to
the field of optometry. From the first time I looked through a slit lamp I knew I was on track to doing
something I would be devoted to. Experiencing different types of practices allowed me to think about
what type of practice I want to work in when I am older. I can envision myself working in a private
practice with fellow optometrists. I would enjoy working at a practice that is multifaceted involving
specialty practice in pediatric eye care and sports vision therapy, as well as providing routine exams

others because of suspense, cliffhangers, pace, and detail. These things contribute to getting us more
engaged in the story you can be on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. The first
element of a story that will enhance its ability to get you engaged as a reader is suspense. Suspense is

This can be the case for some people, but most books should be normally paced. It is better than
having to reread books, re watch movies, or even replay video games. to understand and be engaged in
the story. Some people will say the same about slowly paced stories. With normally paced stories,
authors can fit enough detail in a smaller space; therefore, it takes less time to read books and more
time to read other books or do other things. In conclusion, a story should have detail, cliff hangers,
detail, and a good pace. Some books can have different paces depending on the amount of detail
needed to engage the reader. The pace shouldn t be too slow or too fast. Cliffhangers and suspense
should be included to further engage the person. All of these things will contribute to an amazing and

Primate Morphology For The Lemur Catta
This paper will discuss primate morphology for the Lemur catta, also known as the ring tailed lemur,
what characterizes them as primates, how they react in their environment, and their social and
adaptive behaviors in that environment. The Lemur catta and it is only found in the island of
Madagascar, as well as off the coast of southeast Africa. In Madagascar, they reside in the
southeastern portion anywhere from sea level, up to 8530 feet high. Their environment consists
mainly of tropical forested area in the proximity of nine forests: Andohahela, Andringitra, Ankilitelo,
Berenty, Beza Mahafaly, Isalo, Tsimanampetsotsa, Tsirave, and Zombitse (Godfrey et al. 1998).
According to the National Primate Research Center (pin.primate.wisc.edu), they also have a variety of
habitats for example rainforests, spiny bush forests, subalpine, deciduous, and gallery. However, a lot
of their habitat has been affected by constant human contact; agricultural clearing, deforestation, and
burning to produce charcoal. The Lemur catta need to be able to hide in the forest and they are not
very good at adapting to new environments so they depend a lot on the forested areas. The southwest
part of Madagascar is very prone to droughts and they can have serious effects on the habitats of ring
tailed lemurs and other mammals. I will discuss what makes the Lemur catta a primate and the primate
characteristics that they possess. Then, I will express the specialized, physical characteristics that they

The Relationship Between Faith And Reason In The Catholic...
Faith and Reason have long been a topic of discussion in the Catholic Church. Some might say that
faith and reason contradict each other, but the Catholic church disagrees. In the Catechism of the
Catholic church it states, Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real discrepancy
between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses faith has bestowed
the light of reason on the human mind, God cannot deny himself, nor can truth ever contradict truth.
37 Consequently, methodical research in all branches of knowledge provided it is carried out in a truly
scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the
things of the world and the things of faith derive from the same God. The humble and persevering
investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for
it is God, the conserver of all things, who made them what they are (CCC 159).The Catholic church
teaches that reason is a gift from God, and therefore, all things researched are done through because he
is the one who has created the person doing the reasoning. God wants us to use our minds in ways that
honor him, and the Catholic church continues to reinforce that this idea of faith and reasoning go
together, hand in hand. Faith is having the faith in the system of reason that is used to infer answers
from the Bible. The church teaches that there can never be a big difference between the

Network Virtualization Using Generic Routing Encapsulation
RFC 7637: NETWORK VIRTUALIZATION USING GENERIC ROUTING ENCAPSULATION
AKSHAY HARISH WASANKAR Student ID: 44649479 Southern Methodist University EETS 8317
Switching and QoS Management in IP Networks Dr. Kamakshi Sridhar April 28, 2016 Abstract This
paper explores the details of RFC 7637 which is based on Network Virtualization using Generic
Routing Encapsulation. The purpose of this paper is to describe the usage of Generic Routing
Encapsulation (GRE) header for Network Virtualization (NVGRE) in multi tenant data centers.
Several issues with traditional data center designs such as static workloads, limitations on dynamic
allocation of server and network, oversubscribed network when using RSTP to avoid loops, 4K subnet
limit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional Data Centers have obsolete design catering to static workloads, fragmented networks and
server capacity limiting the dynamic allocation and consolidation of capacity. Most Layer 2 networks
use rapid spanning tree protocol to eliminate possible loops by blocking redundant paths, but it results
in wasted capacity and oversubscribed network. Network fragmentation and VLANs are used for
traffic management, security, performance and broadcast isolation among services belonging to
different clients or tenants. For forwarding VLAN tagged packets, each layer 2 device needs to be
configured and each layer 3 subnet needs to be mapped to one VLAN. In the data center infrastructure
which is shared by multiple tenants, the 4000 VLAN limit is no longer acceptable. Also migrating
workloads require network to be re configured which can consume resources and be error prone. To
respond to dynamic workloads and demands, network administrators and operators must be to achieve
high utilization of server and network capacity, be able to assign workloads operating in single layer 2
network to any server in any rack in the network, be able to move workloads without re configuring
the network. This is achieved by decoupling the workload s location from its network address.
Therefore, key design objectives for the modern data centers are: Location independent addressing
Scalable number of Layer2/layer 3 networks regardless of number of VLANS or underlying physical

Of ThucydidesBiases And Their Consistencies In Greek History
Biases and Their Consistencies in Greek History Humans have made notable accomplishes for many
centuries. Only recently in human history have these events been recorded by other humans. As a
species we naturally have bias, be that toward our culture or an ideology. Thucydides and Herodotus
both had distinct source types as well as biases, but conform to them in different ways reflective of
their different writing styles. First we will examine the sources that Thucydides used and why he uses
speeches. Thucydides was the main source of the information as he lived and held command as a
general during the Peloponnesian War up until his exile to Peloponnesian territory (Thucydides p.
102). His position as a general makes Thucydides an excellent eye witness to many of these instances.
Thucydides spending time with the Peloponnesians gained him insight into those people and how they
would have operated. Thucydides uses himself as his main source as he held a high position in society
and would have access to the events of the war. Thucydides also used other s speeches as resources to
show insight into the events occurring. He used the Melian dialogue to show the wit of the Athenians
and illustrate their impulsive desire to conquer independent cities (Thucydides p. 102 108). This
passage illustrates the beginning of the end for the Athenians. The Melians were a colony of the
Lacedaemonians and did not take a side in the ongoing war, but Athens eventually probed them to war
(Thucydides 102). This foreshadows the battle at Syracuse in which Athens went blindly into out of
desire to simply slight the Spartans. Thucydides uses speeches to show insight to the people s thoughts
and to add foreshadowing to future events. Herodotus used the account of people and their own
traditions as his references in his works. During the beginnings of the war between the Persians and
the Greeks Herodotus speaks of the Persian invasion of the Delians. During the Persians departure
Herodotus uses the Delians as the reference for the events that unfolded next (Herodotus p. 108).
Aside from the mentions of how the stories are sourced from the people Herodotus does not mention
where else his sources came from. Herodotus relied heavily on

Lowering the Drinking Age Appears to be Best Solution Essay
Lowering the Drinking Age Appears to be Best Solution Despite offering many solutions to the
ongoing problem of underage drinking, there seems to be no chance for a law to pass that will lower
the drinking age. Pete Coors of Coors Brewing Co. ran for senator in the Colorado election and
campaigned that he was not pushing to lower the drinking age, however many of his quotes are not
consistent with this point of view. No matter what the ultimate decision is for the drinking age, fake

Salazar doesn t give a specific number of accidents caused by minors, but more a broad and obvious

to be broken, kids are going to break it. That seems to be a common trend of teens, they won t let them
do it, well then they ll find a way to do it anyways. This leads into an article from CNN.com which
recalls all of the ways in which teens purchase and consume alcohol. The first of these methods are
high quality fake IDs. Not only can people make high quality IDs, but they are quite easy to get a hold
of as well. The second thing bringing down the drinking age law, are parents who are willing to allow
their children to consume alcohol, as long as they do not drink and drive. A representative from
Mothers Against Drunk Driving released a statement saying, We have to stop sending mixed messages
to our kids by downplaying the dangers of alcohol use by our youth. Yet, people are wondering if it is
safer to allow kids to drink in their homes, rather than them sneaking around either in parks or
parentless houses, where there is a greater chance of them getting caught by an authority figure.
Despite the greatest efforts of law enforcement and parent formed organizations to deter children from

National Standards And Public Education
Education has longed to be a part of this countries foundation and unfortunately for a long time there
has been differing opinions about the standards and curriculum of public education. And for as long as
American have fought the culture wars, they have debated the role of education, the institution most
essential to ensuring the reproduction of national identity. (Hartman, 2013) This essay will evaluate
the sides for and against the creation of national standards in public education. The high stakes world
of public education has created great concern along with trepidation about the future of the
educational standards, as a result the current academically fluent students the current standards

As a country we want to produce the best future leaders, citizens, and professionals in the work place.
As such, when the investment in our student s educational future is so high for so many reasons and
effects so many different people, therefore it produces many different ideas about the way it should be
done. The adage of too many chiefs and not enough Indians unfortunately has long been the case of
public education. As a reference in the title of Andrew Hartman article sums it up best education is a
Trojan Horse for hidden agendas. As Hartman s articles present the beginning battle over education
was at first religious in nature and at times still is. The battle over education continues as James
Davison Hunter sociologist points out education is, powerful symbols about the meaning of American
life the characters of its past, the challenges of the present and its future agenda . (Hartman, 2013)
With so much at stake one could wonder why we have not unified the educational system of this
country with the creation of national standards. Public Education, as the term would apply, is a public
entity, as such the members of the public community have an opinion of what, and how the system
should work. Unfortunately, that voice is often muddled by the politics that in lies with the system.

Tuesdays With Morrie
Tuesdays with Morrie , by Mitch Albom, is a nonfiction retelling of a student s meetings with his
former mentor. Mitch, now a corporate lapdog, revisits one of his old college professors after he hears
that he has contracted ALS, a terminal disease with no known cure. Mitch and his old professor,
Morrie, discuss Morrie s life every tuesday, and these talks continuously make Mitch a better person
than who he was. Throughout this book many different themes are touched upon. One of these such
theme is the theme, and also Morrie s saying, Love or Perish . Throughout the book Morrie regularly

Mitch, he would not have been able to last as long as he did with his ALS. Another theme throughout
the book is that Morrie teaches Mitch to live life his own way. Morrie is disgusted by america s lust
for greed, fakeness, and violence, and teaches to establish your own way of thinking. While the O.J.
Simpson case was going on, Morrie completely shut himself off from the case, and instead focused on
his family and friends. Morrie built his life on the foundation of love and forgiving, two things that are
shunned in America, in Morrie s eyes. Morrie teaches Mitch that creating his own values and beliefs
leads to a much more enjoyable life than accepting mainstream America. One more theme evident in
Tuesdays with Morrie is the theme that life is full of choices. Morrie says early on in the book that he
had two choices when he got sick, feel sorry for himself or do something to try and help the world.

What Is The Theme Of Games At Twilight By Anita Deswi
Games at twilight is a short story written by Anita Desai. The story is about a young boy called Ravi
who plays hide and seek with his brothers and sisters in a very hot summer day. He wants to win the
game so that he can have all the glory of beating his relatives. He hides in a very dark shed and he
waits for the right moment to get out, touch the den and eventually win the game. I believe that the
last part of the story is the most important because the writer presents the innocence of a child and
how he feels when he understands that he is not the centre of attention. Ravi was sure that he won and
was the champion, the one and only winner of the game since he was not found by Raghu. Desai
shows Ravi s excitement and satisfaction about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Desai conveys Ravi s feelings by the use of irony in the phrase He would not follow them, he would
not be included in this funeral game. He had wanted victory and triumph not a funeral. This technique
provides a twist in the plot of the story because Ravi has won the game, but in reality, he has lost since
he was forgotten. In my opinion, this particular line is very important in the story because it shows the
contrast between what Ravi really wanted and what he got at the end. He wished to be the winner and
have all the victory but instead he is completely forgotten and the children have moved to other
activities and games. The pause used after the two words victory and triumph makes the reader think
of the kid s bad luck since not only he did not win and triumphed, he found himself attending a funeral
game . Looking closely to the metaphoric word funeral we can say that it reflects the death of his
innocence. This occurs when he actually understands that not always everyone will be around you,
even your relatives. This phrase shows an unexpected ending for Ravi and the reader which creates an
anti climax ending. To sum up, the reader feels sorry because the child didn t manage to win after all
those plans and

therefore they are further removed from what the American citizens want and need. This leads me to
believe that the congressmen/women and senators have a much better grasp on the wants of the

Causes Of Self Determination In Africa
3.4 SELF DETERMINATION IN AFRICA
This section seeks to determine the factors responsible for the origins of self determination accounts in
Africa. Indeed, many of the concepts examined above focussed specifically on Europe. The extent to
which the conclusions derived from the European context are applicable to the study of self
determination in Africa needs, therefore, to be further investigated. The following paragraphs present
the factors generally deemed to have been responsible for the rise of nationalism in Africa, a process
that led to the continent s eventual self determination. It reviews the legacies of Western colonization
and briefly discusses the impact of the African American struggle for racial equality, and highlighting
the roles played by Western educated elites in the march towards national self determination.
The study of nationalism in Africa was prompted by the emergence of anti colonialism (xxx, xxx).
Indeed, various factors have been put forward to explain the emergence of nationalism in Africa. The
boundaries drawn by the colonial powers not only indicated their respective areas of sovereignty but
also delimited the territory within which economic and social interchange would take place (xxx,
xxx). The colonial state was modeled on the modem European state which, as we saw in the earlier
sections, had slowly crystallized in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Indeed, the modern state
was to be Europe s most important and enduring legacy to

Modern Day Improvements to Prosthetic Limbs
Prosthetic limbs have been around for centuries, but what is one thing they all have in common? They
have all been a nuisance. In recent years technology of the modern day Prosthesis has ventured to new
heights, but they have not perfected an artificial limb yet. With the amount of people in need of
prosthetic limbs, the demand for a perfect prosthesis is tremendous. The perfect prosthesis shouldn t
feel or even look like an artificial limb. Prosthetics should go unnoticed throughout the rest of the
amputee s life. Modern prosthetic limbs have become very advanced in the last decade. They now
have the ability to grip objects, have running limbs, and many more wonderful things. Although these
prosthetics are great, they are lacking some key extras that amputees would relish. What amputees
really want is their sense of feeling back. They want to reach out with their prosthetic limb and be able
to tell if the stove is on or off. They want to be able to press the gas of an automobile. This sense, that
all non amputees take for granted, would be a great place to start the improvement of the perfect
prosthetic limb. To accomplish such a daunting task, engineers must figure out an alternative source
that could interact with the amputees still intact nerve endings. This way they can use their still
functioning nerves to communicate with their pseudo nerve and have the ability to move their
prosthesis around with complete control of it and its sense of touch. I believe this has not

Iodine Therapy Thyroidectomy
Iodine therapy is another option for treatment and is used in coordination with thyroidectomy to
completely ablate the thyroid gland and to postoperatively eradicate possible residual cancer (Nguyen,
et al., 2015). Iodine 131 has had a significant part in the treatment and of thyroid cancer since the mid
1940 s (Nguyen, et al., 2015). Iodine 131 works by entering the thyroid cells via the sodium iodide
transporters and emitting short wavelength beta rays, causing acute cell death (Nguyen, et al., 2015).

The Disasters The Days Of Grace Analysis
In this passage, the author encourages writers to use memories from their childhoods, specifically
from holidays, as material for their writing. Holidays are a good place to start when remembering your
childhood. They are often memorable. People often take pictures, which can also trigger memories.
Remembering a detail about someone or seeing a picture of them can lead to even more memories.
This can help the writer recall another event that is harder to remember, but had a greater impact on
them.
Holidays are often joyful, but can sometimes lead to anger or embarrassment. This is shown by the
quote the disasters, the days of grace . The bittersweetness of the holidays makes good material for
writing. The author mentions those terrible petaled swim caps, the men s awful trunks . This shows
disappointment in her own family. She believes that her family members are clueless and is
embarrassed by them. Additionally, she draws a contrast between her cousins Brownie uniforms and
her own. This exemplifies her belief that people are constantly judging her. Something as minor as an
untidy uniform can set off her low self esteem.

This can affect those less able because it foes against the main stream. This is backed up by Gilbourn
and Youdell have examined the role of educational policies in creating the context for such school
processes to take place (Item A) Gilbourn and Youdell shows how teachers notions of ability conclude
to their decisions of which pupils have the potential to achieve 5A* C grade gcse s. Neil Keddie then
argues that the more intelligent students get taught more complex and advanced information and
methods while the students in the lower sets are not recognised and being left behind. However
Rosenthal and Jacobson performed an experiment where they picked random students from the class
who were also working class and told teachers they are able to improve, this later resulted in teachers
spending more time with these selected students which made them improve and achieve better.
Therefore showing that self fulfilling prophecy can have an effect in education underachievement. To
conclude sub cultures, labelling, streaming and self fulfilling prophecy can effect education
underachievement, due to social class, gender and race.
Being labelled tends to be based on your social class, where you will be labelled between smart and

Why Should Children Be Involved In Organized Activities
In this day and age I feel that children should be more involved in organized activities. There are
many reasons for this to be said among them some of the main factors for the statement is today s
technology, the ammount of time that is spent inside looking at a screen, and the over all
antisocialness of children because of the freedom that they are given. Though there are good reasons
to let children to be open, free and creative with what they do with their time controling what they
should do with said time is a much better choice.
Starting off with why children should be in more organized activities is the technology that this age
has already released. Every child in todays time has some form of technology that they re always
looking into from a tablet, a phone, a laptop, or even just sitting inside looking a televison screen. All
these forms of technology take away from the childs time to do anything else this is why having
organized activities in their life can help them break away from such things. An example could be as
simple as sports say instead of coming home from school and sitting on their phone the children are
going to practice, games, or even scrimmages for their team. Thus this keeps them away from the

Mothers And Daughters In Eudora Welty s The Joy Luck Club
Perhaps the most intriguing and interesting biographical theme that is repeated throughout the novels
is the traditional mother daughter dynamics and expectations. The importance of family and filial
respect for parents is a crucial part of East Asian culture. The family has and still is often called the
basic social unit in China (Welty 198). In Asian culture children are required to be obedient and
respectful in all cases to their parents (Welty 253). Mother and daughter relationships are an especially
intriguing dynamic because in the traditional cultures, women were often second class and did not
retain much respect. This idea is explored in The Joy Luck Club as Ying ying St. Clair says I know

Daughters saw their mothers to be lost in the past. When Thanh is unable to adjust to the American
way of life Mai thinks, But somehow at that moment, my mother imperfect and unable to adjust, died
in my mind (Cao 70). This separation often contributed to the feelings of being lost and unable to live
in harmony. Ying ying St. Clair in The Joy Luck Club reiterates this idea of separation and
misunderstanding as she describes her relationship with her mother as lost, unseen, and unheard (Tan
64). The power in the relationships between mother and daughters, however, is strong and immigrants
can overcome their differences and find restoration and healing. Thanh describes her powerful
connection with her daughter when she writes, It will always be there, of course. Even Mai has
worked her way into accepting that fact, the fact of our connection, strong and steady like the heart s
vascular valves (Cao 169). The conclusion of The Joy Luck Club follows this theme of the
unbreakable bond between mothers and daughters, even when facing the challenges of Asian
assimilation. Jing mei Woo, the daughter who is plagued the most with her unfulfilled duties as a
daughter, travels to China to meet her older Chinese sisters. She describes, Together we look like our

Moral Panic Examples
A moral panic is an event that has the potential to take place all over the world and is not restricted by

players involved. For example there are those whose actions result in the initiation of the panic, as
well those who take advantage of these actions, such as the media in various ways such as images so
as to possibly benefit themselves or draw negative attention in the direction of a certain group. In my

Technology In Richard Louv s Last Child In The Woods
Not too long ago, people relied on nature for everything. They used it for their bare necessities and
even for their entertainment. But in the recent years, the number of new technologies has been
increasing at a rapid rate. With smartphones and other portable devices, people live in a world
surrounded by technology and other materialistic objects. Children in the newer generations are being
directly introduced into a world full of technology by their parents without the chance to see what
excitement nature has to offer. In Richard Louv s passage Last Child in the Woods he argues that
people of the newer generations are being separated from nature by technology. Through the use of
examples, personal pronouns, personal anecdotes, and rhetorical questions, Louv explains how people
forget to appreciate nature by manipulating it. With newer technologies, things that people thought
only nature could control are now being manipulated by humans. Louv explains how researchers are
experimenting with a genetic technology through which they can choose the colors that appear on
butterfly wings (Louv 2 4). This example of how people can manipulate nature is included in Louv s
essay because it opens people s eyes to the fact that natural phenomena will not remain solely natural
for long. The things that were once untouched by humans are becoming contaminated. Additionally,
this example specifically states how people are able to choose how they want nature to look. A

Human Needs In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Its said that we always want what we don t have. That as human beings we always have the need for
something. We call these necessities our human needs. In the novel Of Mice and Men which is written
by John Steinbeck we saw an abundance of characters who have human needs. The novel showed how
characters would act when they were missing these needs and to what extent they acted to relieve
themselves. The four main human needs that the novel reflected were the need for security, realism,
idealism, and connection. The novel clearly expresses these human needs.
In the novel, the prime example for a character with the need for security is Crooks. Crooks suffers
from racism because of being black and was alienated from the rest of the farmhands. Due to this
segregation, he would spend his time in the barn rubbing his back with a bottle of liniment (Steinbeck
67). The liniment is like an invisible coat of protection for Crooks, protecting him from forces outside
of him. Crooks needs this form of security because it keeps him being a realist, rather than an idealist.
The rubbing of the ointment is also what he goes back to whenever he feels false hope. An example
would be when Crooks spoke up to Curley s wife and she said well you keep your place then, nigger
(Steinbeck 81). After being told that Crooks sat down, waited awhile then he reached for the liniment
bottle (Steinbeck 83). That is why security is a human need reflected in the story.
Realism is another human need

Pros And Cons Of Abolishing Standardized Tests
Stolz 1
Jennie Stolz
DC English
Mrs. Colbert
3 November 2017
Abolishing Standardized Tests Standardized tests determine such a drastic amount of one s future. Not
only do students fail standardized tests, but they also lack the knowledge that one expects a child to
learn in their current grade. In general, teachers focus on preparing students for tests and not truly
teaching the material. This forces the question of whether or not standardized tests measure what
students have learned or their test taking skills. Many students have terrible test taking skills, which
results in substantially low scores. This does not result from lack of knowledge of the material, but
rather because they do not understand how to effectively take and finish tests. Students deserve a
proper education, therefore require a reliable educator. The majority of these failures result in lower
graduation rates, and the percent of workforce drastically drops. Standardized tests such as the
American College Test, the ACT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT, and core state tests should not
remain a deciding factor for passing a grade level or getting accepted into a certain college. One
reason includes students inability to afford needed test preparation. Misevaluating students knowledge
and skills when using structured tests continues to exemplify the major flaws in today s education
system. Therefore, standardized testing should not exist.

Your cousin Sean was killed in a car accident at about 4:30 this morning, she replied.

that my favorite cousin could have made such a grave mistake. It was a cruel reality the day that they
told me the truth, but that day, the news did not come from family. That is, I guess, what made it even
worse.
I was sitting in my freshmen english class, when my teacher had told us that we had a new student

I had seen her at

Giornale, the rest is history (The leadership summit). Mr. Schultz had a vision for Starbucks saying; I
saw something. Not only the romance of coffee, but ... a sense of community. And the connection that
people had to coffee the place and one another (Howard D. Schultz, 2014).
Howard Behar Howard Schultz is not the only Howard to have a significant influence on Starbuck s

  • 12. The Relationship Between Faith And Reason In The Catholic... Faith and Reason have long been a topic of discussion in the Catholic Church. Some might say that faith and reason contradict each other, but the Catholic church disagrees. In the Catechism of the Catholic church it states, Though faith is above reason, there can never be any real discrepancy between faith and reason. Since the same God who reveals mysteries and infuses faith has bestowed the light of reason on the human mind, God cannot deny himself, nor can truth ever contradict truth. 37 Consequently, methodical research in all branches of knowledge provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things of faith derive from the same God. The humble and persevering investigator of the secrets of nature is being led, as it were, by the hand of God in spite of himself, for it is God, the conserver of all things, who made them what they are (CCC 159).The Catholic church teaches that reason is a gift from God, and therefore, all things researched are done through because he is the one who has created the person doing the reasoning. God wants us to use our minds in ways that honor him, and the Catholic church continues to reinforce that this idea of faith and reasoning go together, hand in hand. Faith is having the faith in the system of reason that is used to infer answers from the Bible. The church teaches that there can never be a big difference between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditional Data Centers have obsolete design catering to static workloads, fragmented networks and server capacity limiting the dynamic allocation and consolidation of capacity. Most Layer 2 networks use rapid spanning tree protocol to eliminate possible loops by blocking redundant paths, but it results in wasted capacity and oversubscribed network. Network fragmentation and VLANs are used for traffic management, security, performance and broadcast isolation among services belonging to different clients or tenants. For forwarding VLAN tagged packets, each layer 2 device needs to be configured and each layer 3 subnet needs to be mapped to one VLAN. In the data center infrastructure which is shared by multiple tenants, the 4000 VLAN limit is no longer acceptable. Also migrating workloads require network to be re configured which can consume resources and be error prone. To respond to dynamic workloads and demands, network administrators and operators must be to achieve high utilization of server and network capacity, be able to assign workloads operating in single layer 2 network to any server in any rack in the network, be able to move workloads without re configuring the network. This is achieved by decoupling the workload s location from its network address. Therefore, key design objectives for the modern data centers are: Location independent addressing Scalable number of Layer2/layer 3 networks regardless of number of VLANS or underlying physical ... • 21. Of ThucydidesBiases And Their Consistencies In Greek History Biases and Their Consistencies in Greek History Humans have made notable accomplishes for many centuries. Only recently in human history have these events been recorded by other humans. As a species we naturally have bias, be that toward our culture or an ideology. Thucydides and Herodotus both had distinct source types as well as biases, but conform to them in different ways reflective of their different writing styles. First we will examine the sources that Thucydides used and why he uses speeches. Thucydides was the main source of the information as he lived and held command as a general during the Peloponnesian War up until his exile to Peloponnesian territory (Thucydides p. 102). His position as a general makes Thucydides an excellent eye witness to many of these instances. Thucydides spending time with the Peloponnesians gained him insight into those people and how they would have operated. Thucydides uses himself as his main source as he held a high position in society and would have access to the events of the war. Thucydides also used other s speeches as resources to show insight into the events occurring. He used the Melian dialogue to show the wit of the Athenians and illustrate their impulsive desire to conquer independent cities (Thucydides p. 102 108). This passage illustrates the beginning of the end for the Athenians. The Melians were a colony of the Lacedaemonians and did not take a side in the ongoing war, but Athens eventually probed them to war (Thucydides 102). This foreshadows the battle at Syracuse in which Athens went blindly into out of desire to simply slight the Spartans. Thucydides uses speeches to show insight to the people s thoughts and to add foreshadowing to future events. Herodotus used the account of people and their own traditions as his references in his works. During the beginnings of the war between the Persians and the Greeks Herodotus speaks of the Persian invasion of the Delians. During the Persians departure Herodotus uses the Delians as the reference for the events that unfolded next (Herodotus p. 108). Aside from the mentions of how the stories are sourced from the people Herodotus does not mention where else his sources came from. Herodotus relied heavily on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lowering the Drinking Age Appears to be Best Solution Essay Lowering the Drinking Age Appears to be Best Solution Despite offering many solutions to the ongoing problem of underage drinking, there seems to be no chance for a law to pass that will lower the drinking age. Pete Coors of Coors Brewing Co. ran for senator in the Colorado election and campaigned that he was not pushing to lower the drinking age, however many of his quotes are not consistent with this point of view. No matter what the ultimate decision is for the drinking age, fake IDs and parents who condone drinking are going to cancel out any legitimacy for this law to work. This leads into an article from CNN.com which recalls all of the ways in which teens purchase and consume alcohol. The first of these methods are high quality fake IDs. Not only can people make high quality IDs, but they are quite easy to get a hold of as well. The second thing bringing down the drinking age law, are parents who are willing to allow their children to consume alcohol, as long as they do not drink and drive. A representative from Mothers Against Drunk Driving released a statement saying, We have to stop sending mixed messages to our kids by downplaying the dangers of alcohol use by our youth. Yet, people are wondering if it is safer to allow kids to drink in their homes, rather than them sneaking around either in parks or parentless houses, where there is a greater chance of them getting caught by an authority figure. He wants to win the game so that he can have all the glory of beating his relatives. He hides in a very dark shed and he waits for the right moment to get out, touch the den and eventually win the game. I believe that the last part of the story is the most important because the writer presents the innocence of a child and how he feels when he understands that he is not the centre of attention. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Desai conveys Ravi s feelings by the use of irony in the phrase He would not follow them, he would not be included in this funeral game. He had wanted victory and triumph not a funeral. This technique provides a twist in the plot of the story because Ravi has won the game, but in reality, he has lost since he was forgotten. In my opinion, this particular line is very important in the story because it shows the contrast between what Ravi really wanted and what he got at the end. He wished to be the winner and have all the victory but instead he is completely forgotten and the children have moved to other activities and games. The pause used after the two words victory and triumph makes the reader think of the kid s bad luck since not only he did not win and triumphed, he found himself attending a funeral game . Looking closely to the metaphoric word funeral we can say that it reflects the death of his innocence. This occurs when he actually understands that not always everyone will be around you, even your relatives. This phrase shows an unexpected ending for Ravi and the reader which creates an anti climax ending. Indeed, many of the concepts examined above focussed specifically on Europe. The extent to which the conclusions derived from the European context are applicable to the study of self determination in Africa needs, therefore, to be further investigated. In recent years technology of the modern day Prosthesis has ventured to new heights, but they have not perfected an artificial limb yet. With the amount of people in need of prosthetic limbs, the demand for a perfect prosthesis is tremendous. The perfect prosthesis shouldn t feel or even look like an artificial limb. Prosthetics should go unnoticed throughout the rest of the amputee s life. Modern prosthetic limbs have become very advanced in the last decade. They now have the ability to grip objects, have running limbs, and many more wonderful things. Although these prosthetics are great, they are lacking some key extras that amputees would relish. What amputees really want is their sense of feeling back. They want to reach out with their prosthetic limb and be able to tell if the stove is on or off. They want to be able to press the gas of an automobile. This sense, that all non amputees take for granted, would be a great place to start the improvement of the perfect prosthetic limb. To accomplish such a daunting task, engineers must figure out an alternative source that could interact with the amputees still intact nerve endings. This way they can use their still functioning nerves to communicate with their pseudo nerve and have the ability to move their prosthesis around with complete control of it and its sense of touch. Holidays are a good place to start when remembering your childhood. They are often memorable. People often take pictures, which can also trigger memories. Remembering a detail about someone or seeing a picture of them can lead to even more memories. This can help the writer recall another event that is harder to remember, but had a greater impact on them. Holidays are often joyful, but can sometimes lead to anger or embarrassment. There are many reasons for this to be said among them some of the main factors for the statement is today s technology, the ammount of time that is spent inside looking at a screen, and the over all antisocialness of children because of the freedom that they are given. Though there are good reasons to let children to be open, free and creative with what they do with their time controling what they should do with said time is a much better choice. Every child in todays time has some form of technology that they re always looking into from a tablet, a phone, a laptop, or even just sitting inside looking a televison screen. In Asian culture children are required to be obedient and respectful in all cases to their parents (Welty 253). Ying ying St. Clair in The Joy Luck Club reiterates this idea of separation and misunderstanding as she describes her relationship with her mother as lost, unseen, and unheard (Tan 64). Children in the newer generations are being directly introduced into a world full of technology by their parents without the chance to see what excitement nature has to offer. In Richard Louv s passage Last Child in the Woods he argues that people of the newer generations are being separated from nature by technology. Through the use of examples, personal pronouns, personal anecdotes, and rhetorical questions, Louv explains how people forget to appreciate nature by manipulating it. With newer technologies, things that people thought only nature could control are now being manipulated by humans. This example of how people can manipulate nature is included in Louv s essay because it opens people s eyes to the fact that natural phenomena will not remain solely natural for long. We call these necessities our human needs. In the novel Of Mice and Men which is written by John Steinbeck we saw an abundance of characters who have human needs. The novel showed how characters would act when they were missing these needs and to what extent they acted to relieve themselves. The four main human needs that the novel reflected were the need for security, realism, idealism, and connection. The novel clearly expresses these human needs. In the novel, the prime example for a character with the need for security is Crooks. Crooks suffers from racism because of being black and was alienated from the rest of the farmhands. Due to this segregation, he would spend his time in the barn rubbing his back with a bottle of liniment (Steinbeck 67). The liniment is like an invisible coat of protection for Crooks, protecting him from forces outside of him. Crooks needs this form of security because it keeps him being a realist, rather than an idealist. The rubbing of the ointment is also what he goes back to whenever he feels false hope. An example would be when Crooks spoke up to Curley s wife and she said well you keep your place then, nigger (Steinbeck 81). After being told that Crooks sat down, waited awhile then he reached for the liniment bottle (Steinbeck 83). That is why security is a human need reflected in the story. Not only do students fail standardized tests, but they also lack the knowledge that one expects a child to learn in their current grade. In general, teachers focus on preparing students for tests and not truly teaching the material. This forces the question of whether or not standardized tests measure what students have learned or their test taking skills. Many students have terrible test taking skills, which results in substantially low scores. This does not result from lack of knowledge of the material, but rather because they do not understand how to effectively take and finish tests. Standardized tests such as the American College Test, the ACT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT, and core state tests should not remain a deciding factor for passing a grade level or getting accepted into a certain college. One reason includes students inability to afford needed test preparation. Misevaluating students knowledge and skills when using structured tests continues to exemplify the major flaws in today s education system. Therefore, standardized testing should not exist. ...
