Organizational Structures and Systems
Introduction This paper will examine organizational structures, organizational systems and how
organizational culture influences both structure and systems. Throughout this paper, there will an
analogy to the human body to help further the understanding of the concepts of structure and systems
in an organization. This analogy is based on the academic work of Goold and Campbell (Goold
Campbell, 2002). The first part of this paper will review different organizational structures. The
second part will look at various organizational systems and how they may be ... Show more content on

Furthermore, one should think of culture, structure and systems as a whole system (Goold Campbell,
2002) instead of independent, individual elements. The conclusion must be that collectively, these
three elements create the foundation of an organization. When an organization does not use a holistic
approach towards their culture, structure and systems, the organization could create a poor working
environment for its employees and poor results for their customers. An example of culture, structure
and systems not working well together can be seen in General Motors (GM). GM prior to its
bankruptcy was seen to be a highly bureaucratic company in which brands, departments and regions
operated like self governing and competing states with a federation (Smerd, J. 2009). Here is a first
hand account of culture, structure and systems not being in harmony. In 1994, Ticketmaster (TM)
United States became a major presence in the ticketing industry. As part of their growth strategy, they
expanded through the re acquisition of all licensees. One of the licensees was the Canadian
Ticketmaster business. From 1995 to 1997, TM Canada was forced to transform organizationally to
become similar to our American parent. The cultural breakdown occurred when transitioning from
networked (high on sociability; low on solidarity) to mercenary (low on sociability; high on solidarity)
(Langton Robbins, 2007, p. #341 342). For example, the lack of accountability

Ocean Supercarriers
The first commissioned aircraft carrier, the USS Langley, made its debut in 1922 (Petty, The Carriers).
From then after, navies across the world continued to improve and add these platforms to their fleets.
With 19 aircraft carriers from nine countries steaming across the world, carriers are a prominent
representation of a county s naval power (Mizokami). The United States Navy (USN) alone boasts 10
Nimitz Class supercarriers propelled by twin nuclear reactors, allowing each carrier to steam across
the world s oceans for decades without refueling (Petty, Aircraft). By law, the USN is required to
maintain at least 11 carriers; while the US only has 10 carriers in service, an eleventh and entirely new
class, the Gerald R. Ford, is nearing commission ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike other surface combatants with conventional ammunition, aircraft carriers can safely remain
hundreds of miles off the coast of a nation and strike farther inland by utilizing their embarked air
wing (Thompson). Also unlike other surface combatants that sail closer to shore, the air wing of the
carrier cannot be torpedoed or hit by an enemy mine; the small size and advanced deception
technology on the carrier s various aircraft also make them much more difficult for the enemy to
detect than a visible destroyer or cruiser parked directly off their coast. When analyzing the US s
supercarriers, each of their 70 aircraft fulfill a certain role in the theater of war, but they all provide the
Navy with the means to dominate the enemy in the sky, on the sea, and on land through electronic and
conventional offensive and defensive means

Stereotypes In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Golding effectively presents characters through symbolism, stereotypes and natural imagery. Golding
wrote this book as he wanted to expose the readers to the real worlds death how people are treated in
the world. One of the characters that are introduced as a stereotype is the fair boy .The stereotype used
to present Ralph is a cool boy who is only friends With other popular boys as he didn t care about the
other boy from the beginning as he said wait a minute this show that he doesn t care about anything
apart of leaving and finding his way out. This character is really important to the novel as it says the in
front of fair boy . He is one of the popular boys who has a high status as it says piggy looks up at
Ralph . This shows piggy admires Ralph as Ralph is more popular and the cool boy. As Ralph has a
high status piggy looks up to him. This also shows piggy has a lower status than Ralph. The fair boy
can also show the description of him the fair could also be referring to his hair colour and the readers
were told that in the first paragraph shows his one of the most important characters. Golding also
introduces as to another character other boy and fat boy he is not popular as he has a low status.
Before in the novel Golding calls him the other boy clearly from the beginning we are shown that he is
not important as we are not even told about any description about him. He is also shown as a really
clever child who wears specs . In society people who

Business Culture in Italy
Business Culture in ITALY
Doing business abroad introduces international business people to differences in approaches to
business, business etiquette and protocol. Although these may not be crucial to business proceedings
they should not be dismissed as unnecessary.
Cross cultural awareness can enhance the potential of the international business person s trip
considerably. Let us look at a brief example:
There are two business people each planning on doing business in Italy. Both have similar proposals.
One ignores the possible impact of culture and concentrates their efforts on the business proposal. The
other also invests time and energy in the proposal but in addition realises that doing business in Italy is
a lot different to doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To arrange a meeting write, in Italian, first. Follow this up with a phone call, fax or e mail. The best
time for meetings is between 10 11 a.m. and after 3 p.m. Avoid August as most businesses will run on
skeleton staff due to holidays.
Negotiations can be slow. Demonstrating a sense of urgency is seen as a sign of weakness. At the
beginning of a meeting avoid business and concentrate on some small talk. Topics of discussion could
include Italian culture, food, wine and football (soccer). Italians will take away proposals and analyse
them carefully. Be sure to offer as much information as possible in written form for them to take away.
A known Italian tactic is to dramatically change demands at the eleventh hour to unsettle or test the
flexibility of their counterparts. Remain firm.

Perspectives On Psychology And Evaluate Their Key Assumptions
Perspectives in Psychology
This essay will give detailed descriptions of the behaviourist and cognitive perspectives in psychology
and evaluate their key assumptions. The strengths and limitations of each perspective will be
discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in psychology. Finally
there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each perspective and a conclusion.
The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are
blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson in
America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). Behaviourists focus on external conditions, learning and
experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional
stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell ringing
alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and salivating to
the bell was considered the conditional response.
B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant conditioning.
Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences or rewards
generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005). Skinner invented a
device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain food, water or some
other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of reinforcement, positive
(which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in removal of unfavourable
outcomes).
Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think.
Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information
processor. Key areas of interest within cognitive psychology are mental processes such as memory,
perception, problem solving, language, creativity, attention span and thinking. Ulric Neisser published
Cognitive Psychology in 1967

Who Is Javert A Silent Hero
The Silent Killer Once a bad person, always a person? Everyone knows someone that has had a hard
past, but that does not necessarily mean that they are a bad person to the core. However, the character
of Javert in the book Les Miserables by Victor Hugo felt that once a criminal always a criminal. He
saw the law as black and white with no room for compromise. Part of this philosophy was because of
his own background and life story. Key parts in the book, movie, and other sources of research help
prove that Javert s hardened heart would never change given what happened in his past, so he was
unable to accept any kind of mercy. To start off with this paper it is crucial to understand Javert s life
from the start. Now there s not a whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

years to close. He hated prostitutes and crime to him was very black and white. Javert was a man of

bad person. He showed this when he couldn t come to grips of feeling mercy from Jean Valjean. The
last topic that was last talked about was how Javert was unmerciful his whole life and he could not

The Alpine Mountains, The Alpine Mountains And The North...
Europe is the second smallest continent and though it is small it contains forty countries, it s heavily
populated just under six hundred million people. Its countries have had and still have a major impact
on world affairs, whether it s fashion industry, famous for their cuisines, and their advances in
technology, and the way some of these European countries enjoy high level of development despite
major physiographical challenges. Europe is rich for their resources like the cultivable soils which is
great for their farming and wild animals that can be domesticated to do help with labors. They are also
known for their rich fishing waters and they also contain deposits of oil and natural gas.
When it comes to climate in Europe they have it all from their warm Mediterranean Sea weather to icy
cold weather that comes from the Alps to moist woodlands. Europe is also known to be at the heart of
the land hemisphere that it is easy for them to have contact with other countries and are surrounded by
lots of sea as well like the Atlantic Ocean, Black Sea, North Sea, Norwegian Sea, Mediterranean Sea,
Baltic Sea and Barents Sea. There s a reason why people refer to it as the peninsula of peninsulas.
They also have some diverse landscapes which are The Central Uplands, The Alpine Mountains,

Slavery Or Enslaved Objects Fit Right Into The Discourses...
In my opinion, slavery or enslaved objects fit right into the discourses of modernity. Paul Gilroy
quoted Hegel in The Black Atlantic. This condition is capable of no development or Culture, and as
we see them at this day, such they have always been (Gilroy 41). That is saying that blacks never have
or will contribute to anything in the world. That was another reason for slave owners to treat slaves
like the scum on the bottom of their shoe. If blacks aren t doing anything to benefit us in any type of
way, what s the point of treating them like human beings? That s probably how slave owners thought
and they had a reason. If blacks weren t getting any credit for anything and all the credit has been and
will always be given to the whites, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blacks always found themselves resisting physical, political and economic domination. For that
specific reason, Gilroy argues that nation as an organizing historical principal lacks accuracy because
it only shows the negative side of everything. Gilroy shows how it is represented in black music. This
fundamental dislocation of black culture is especially important in recent history of black musics
which, produced out of racial slavery which made modern western civilization possible, now dominate
its popular cultures (Gilroy 80).
Du Bois agrees with Gilroy about the sorrow songs. In The Souls of Black Folk Du Bois thinks that
sorrow songs are a show of the achievements of African descendants in America. The songs have been
passed down from generation to generation. The songs are just like their composers, have been
polished by the fires of American slavery, inequality, and cruelty. These songs are the music of an
unhappy people, and the creations of children of disappointment; and yet, they are also prayers which
breathe hope and a faith in the ultimate justice of things (Du Bois 157). The sorrow songs are a way
for slaves to speak to the world in their own special way.
Du Bois begins every single chapter with a piece of religious music. That in itself shows how
important the sorrow songs are. Slaves intentionally hold on to their troubles to use as motivation for
overcoming future obstacles. Sorrow songs are the greatest

The Themes Of Nature In William Wordsworth s Poetry
The earth has its music for those who will listen said by George Santayana is apt for William
Wordsworth as most of his poems explore the wonders of nature. He is often called as a nature writer
and his love for nature is beyond measure. As a child, he spent most of his time in nature s lap in Lake
District, and thus was greatly affected by everything that happened in nature. Nature enjoys a distinct
and important status in his poetry and his poems are greatly influenced by what he saw and felt about
nature.
Just as nature has such a great impact on Wordsworth s poetry, the descriptions of nature in his poems
also impact the readers immensely. His poems on nature instil a feeling of joy a sense of connection
with the nature in the hearts of the readers. The imagery used by him while describing the elements of
nature enables the readers to visualize what is being talked about and also appreciate the different
shades of nature. His poetry teaches the readers to realise the significance of nature in their lives and
look at nature in a way they have never done before.

nature in the real sense. For oft when on my couch I lie, In vacant or in pensive mood... And then my
heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils (19 20, 23 24). The ending of the poem brings
a major learning and realisation to the readers. By reading these lines, the readers realise that it is only
nature that can fill their hearts with permanent pleasure and can make them joyous even in the sad

defiance. King became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the 1955 Montgomery bus
boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in 1957, serving as
its first president. With the SCLC, King led the Albany Movement, a 1962 struggle against
segregation in Albany, Georgia which failed to make a difference in racial disputes, but helped
organize the 1963 nonviolent protests in Birmingham, Alabama. King also helped to organize the 1963

A Study On Radarsat 1
RADARSAT 1 was a satellite launched by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in 1995 that
incorporated a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor operating in the C band (frequency of 5.3 GHz).
RADARSAT 1 stopped transmitting because of a technical problem in March 2013. The RADARSAT
1 images were ordered from the Alaska Satellite Facility website (www.asf.alaska.edu). The
RADARSAT satellite was designed with seven SAR imaging beam modes. Each beam mode offers a
different areal coverage (from ~50 km x 50 km/scene to ~500 km x 500 km/scene) and resolution
(from 8 m to 100 m). The RADARSAT instrument also offers a range of incidence angles from 10°

RADARSAT 1 was also implemented to provide data products for commercial applications such as
shipping, oil exploration, offshore oil drilling, and resource management. RADARSAT 1 has been
used to collect substantial and significant science data sets of Antarctica and Arctic sea ice. For this
study the Standard Mode was used and the SAR images have a swath width of 100km and a spatial
resolution of about 25 30 m. For this research, images were selected in beam modes 1, 2, 3, and 5
(where the S denotes Standard Mode ), that provided lower incident angles between 20 42o in

Essay swing kids
When three friends are pressured by the government and each other, what choices will they make to
strengthen or weaken their friendship? When people are pressured into things, does the character
change? Is it a good or bad way. In the movie Swing Kids Peter, Thomas, and Aarvid made choices
that reflect the strengths and weaknesses of their friendship.
Peter is almost the head of there little group, and the choices he makes determines what everyone else
thinks and does. For example, Peter is sent into the HJ s because of his bad behavior and not because
he wants to join. He is an individual and does not do what everyone else tells him to do just like all the

Thomas cannot remain loyal to his friends or even his own family who is closer than his friends. This
shows that he would rather go with the crowd than rather trying to be an individual like Peter. In
addition, at the end of the Movie Thomas beats up Peter because he was dancing as a Swing Kid. If
Thomas was a true friend he would have just told him to leave and nothing would have happened but
he just had to fight him. Thomas joined the HJ because of Peter but Thomas and Peter thought two
different ways and they each went there separate ways also. As soon as Thomas joined the HJ s his
look on everything changed dramatically but Peters look did not change it just made them grow
farther apart.
Aarvid is a person who speaks his mind and always tries to persuade people to think what he thinks is
true. For example, he did not like that Thomas and Peter were in the HJ, and could not understand
why they were in it. He should have listened to Peter when he told Aarvid that he had to join, Aarvid
still thought that Peter and Thomas wanted to join on there own. He was also closed minded and
would not listen to Peter even though he stuck up for him. In addition, when Aarvid comits suicide he
takes an easy way out of things instead of standing up for what he thought was right. Aarvid should
have stood up to the government and told them exactly what he thought. Aarvid, Thomas, and Peter
should have tried to stay together even through

Dances With Wolves Analysis
I thought the movie Dances with Wolves was a good film. I think that this was a good film since it had
a good storyline. In addition, I had thought the movies was also very interesting. I thought it was
interesting as it showed me the communication barrier between Dunbar and the Indians, the Indians
lack of knowledge on weaponry, and the perception of Indians. I also thought it was a good film, since
I had also learned a few things from it. One of those things being the perception of Indians.
The movie gave me an insight on the relationship between the US and Indian relationships as it seems
as the USA did not like the Indians. It shows this with the perception of the Indians from the
comments the white people had made toward the Indians and ... Show more content on

I feel that this movie would be a historical fiction since the film does have some historical facts and
meaning. Some parts of the movie that show historical facts would be the perception of the Indians,
the few battles, and the customs of the Indians. These things cannot fictionalized, and would require
some research.
The treatment of the native people west of the Mississippi river in the time period following the civil
war was poor. The white people wanted the Indians to be exterminated. An example of this happened
in Colorado, when some Indian chiefs had sought peace and negotiation. In this negotiation, they had
army protection, however, they were killed in their sleep. The Indians were also treated poorly as they
suffered from the white Americans racism, their belief that they owned all the land, and paternalism.
The forces at work on both of these sides were the people that had strong beliefs and were not going to
stand for anything but their beliefs. The Indians were on the west side of the Mississippi river, and
they did not want to leave their land. The white people were on the other side of the Mississippi river
and had their belief that they owned all the land. With these two groups of people with different
beliefs, this had lead to incompatible

Research Assistant History
The research done by Molony and Hammett looked into how research assistants are compensated for
their help in the field. These two also research if the wealth asymmetry has any affect on the
relationship between researcher and research assistance. The history behind research and research
assistant relationships has a great deal to do with the history and the colonial era transition of
researchers.
In places like South Africa, the white researcher has less of an advantage in conducting research
because populations are based on color and if you are white then you do not get as many opportunities
to view the cultures of other people. Unlike in Tanzania, the transition from their colonial era was
smooth and comfortable. Tanzanians enjoy working with and helping the white foreigners conduct

research assistant. Other factors of selecting a research assistant include knowledge, race, age, and
gender (pg. 296). Gender plays a major role in anthropological research assistants because taboos of
opposite sex can cause complications of the research. Even if it is easier for a male to work with a

Teachers Voice Disorders
Roy et al. 2004 Summary
Research shows that teachers are more likely to experience a voice disorder within their lifetime than
non teachers (Roy et al., 2004b). Further study indicates that teachers who have developed voice
disorders from their profession are negatively affected in the areas of job performance, attendance, and
future career choices (Roy, Merrill, Thibeault, Gray Smith, 2004a). This was determined through a
telephone questionnaire conducted by Iowa State Statistical Laboratory who interviewed randomly
selected participants (teachers and non teachers) in the states of Iowa and Utah. Two research studies

Statistics show that 81% of teachers versus 68% of non teachers, were more likely to have developed
another voice disorder after having had experienced one prior. This leads to the conclusion that
teachers are more likely to keep developing voice problems over time (Roy et al., 2004b). Additional
study discusses that teachers are not only more likely to have negative effects on work performance
and attendance but are also more likely to change their career in the future due to voice problems.
Teachers thought because their profession caused such harsh health implications they would be unable
to fulfill their teaching position without an adequate voice. Thus meaning they would need to find
another career. As cited in Roy et al. (2004a), the threat teaching places on voice problems increases
the chance of further complications in regards to career choices and financial decisions. Overall,
teachers credited more of their negative vocal symptoms on their profession than that of non teachers.

The Debate Over Gay Marriage
Although gay marriage has been legalized in all of the United States, the idea is still heavily debated.
Richard Fitzgibbons, one of the various authors of the book Homosexuality: Opposing Viewpoints
(Homosexuality is Caused by Psychological Trauma, p.36) believe that in order to get rid of pain, a
person can be overcome by strong, erotic desires and actions, however, this does not entirely make
sense. If a man were to be sexaully assaulted by another man, they would, more than likely remain
straight, considering they were hurt by someone of the same sex.
Religion Several people use religion as an argument against homosexuality, such as Matt Slick, writer
of the article What does the Bible say about homosexuality?. Matt uses the bible as a source quoting
scriptural citations, such as in Leviticus 18:22, where it says: You should not lay with a male as one
lies with a female; it is an abomination. This, however, only makes a strong argument in the case of a
person who actually believes there is a God. Also, in Leviticus chapter 19, verse 27, the bible clearly
says that one should not shave the hairs at the sides of their head, which basically means that haircuts
were also a sin. Homosexuality is Unnatural
Many times, in an article, a person against gay marriage, or homosexuality in general will use the
argument that

Whale Rider Analysis
Whale Rider Essay
Whale Rider directed by Nicki Caro has won many awards such as Critic s Choice Movie Award for
Best Young Performer and Independent Spirit Award for Best International Film. The award winning
film explores the many privileges, obligations and duties of the leaders and potential leaders in
protagonist Pai s Maori community. Caro does this through characterisations of Pai, and her
supporting characters, such as Koro, her grandfather. He believes that his duty was to establish a new
chief with no modern compromise. Pai, on the other hand, she has to prove to Koro that the traditional
ways need to adapt like the world around them. So, minor characters also had roles, duties and
expectations throughout the film that they had issues fulfilling.
The film displayed the theme of duty specifically through Koro. Koro had to obey ancient traditions

Essay on Department Store Marketing Comparison
1. I have chosen to discuss and compare the department store industry. I have chosen this industry
because I live in Southern California where the retail sector is a major part of business. Shopping
malls are prevalent everywhere. I have seen and experienced all the differences among class and
status. With a wide variety of demographics in Southern California, there are a number of shops and
stores to choose from. Department stores range from discount warehouses such as Wal Mart, mid
range stores such as JC Penney, and high end stores like Nordstrom. I am going to discuss the
department store industry specifically for Wal Mart, JC Penny, and Nordstrom. Coming from a middle

JC Penney: Product: Like its two competitors, JC Penney offers a variety of tangible goods for sale.
JC Penney caters to its customers with higher end products at an affordable price. It is similar to
Nordstrom s in the types of goods offered. It differs from Wal Mart because it has less variety. JC
Penney offers clothing, bed and bath products, home items, clothing accessories, and patio furniture.
Clothing is the main area of production for JC Penney and accounts for more than 50% of sales.
Price: JC Penney has recently decided to move to three kinds of prices: everyday, monthly specials,
and clearances. They came to this strategy through a variety of studies. First, using past sales data, the
company looked at consumers actual purchasing behavior, and came up with what it terms Fair and
Square pricing, which means shoppers can expect lower prices in stores at all times. To reach this
conclusion, research showed 72% of JC Penney s revenue came from selling items priced at least 50%
off. Thus, in the example cited in most recent news stories about the Fair and Square strategy, a T shirt
that had retailed for US$14 but typically sold after markdowns at US$6, would now be priced at a
US$7 every day. Part two of Fair and Square means monthly deals, and in the T shirt example,

Mountain Man Brewing
Assignment for Week 9
DESCRIPTION
Chris Prangel, a recent MBA graduate, has returned home to West Virginia to manage the marketing
operations of the Mountain Man Beer Company, a family owned business he stands to inherit in five
years. Mountain Man brews just one beer, Mountain Man Lager, also known as West Virginia s beer
and popular among blue collar workers. Due to changes in beer drinkers taste preferences, the
company is now experiencing declining sales for the first time in its history. In response, Chris wants
to launch Mountain Man Light, a light beer formulation of Mountain Man Lager, in the hope of
attracting younger drinkers to the brand. However, he encounters resistance from senior managers.

drink Mountain Man as a way to connect with past generations of their family. Brand played a critical
role in beer purchasing decision. The promotion of MMBC was done by accentuating its dark color by
packaging it in a brown bottle, with its original 1925 design of a crew of coal miners printed on the
front. Mountain Man Lager was priced similarly to premium domestic brands such as Miller and
Budweiser but below specialty brands such as Sam Adams. MMBC used its own sales force to focus
on off premise locations (liquor stores or supermarkets) with much success. Blue collar males
purchased 60% of the beer they drank at these off premise locations. The decline in MMBC was due
to changes in beer drinkers preferences. This decline was happening across the whole United States to
the traditional premium beer category at an annual rate of 4%.
I believe Mountain Man should introduce a light beer to make up for the loss of sales. The
introduction into the market should be done with soft marketing in the core area that Mountain Man
Lager is the strongest, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. I am recommending

Why Euthanasia is Wrong Essay
Thou Shalt Not Kill (Exodus 20: 13 14). One of the Ten Commandments put forward by God to
Moses at the top of Mount Sinai. The killing of another human being is morally wrong and
unacceptable. No one has the right to take away another persons life, whether it be through hatred and
disgust, or compassion and love. Murder is murder. So why should those select few who work in the
clinics of Switzerland, whose occupation is to assist in a person s suicide, become immune from this
law against murder. It is them who provide the patient with, and administer, the method of how they
are going to die. To me, that sounds like murder.
What gives someone else the right to take away another human being s life?
Euthanasia is wrong and immoral for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also means that it slides from terminally ill patients using it, to anybody using it. For instance,
people who become depressed and may see this as an option to end their depression, if it became
available in the UK. For something as minor as depression (compared to terminal cancer), which can
be treated through doctors and psychologists someone could take their life if they had this option.
Also, doctors could see it as an opportunity to free up beds in a hospital and save it money at the same
time. A 1998 study found that doctors who are cost conscious and practice resource conserving
medicine are significantly more likely to write a lethal prescription for terminally ill patients [Arch.
Intern. Med., 5/11/98, p. 974]. This suggests to us that medical costs do influence doctors opinions.
But doctors should not be involved in directly causing death. This brings us to the controversial point
of active and passive euthanasia. Some people think there is no real difference between the two, since
stopping a treatment and administering one are both deliberate acts. But there is a moral difference
between letting a person die peacefully and deliberately killing the person. Thou shalt not kill but
needst not strive, officiously, to keep alive.

Introduction The prophecy of the Temple in Ezekiel 40 48 is said to be one of the most difficult
portion of scripture. Many commentators have proposed varying views and approaches. It has even
been reported that the Jews do not allow anyone to read it until they are 30 years of age.
[footnoteRef:1]Despite this difficulty, it is a vital portion of scripture necessary to the understanding
of the Messiah and the principle of salvation. Accordingly, this discussion will examine both the literal
and figurative interpretations of this vision to show their strengths and weaknesses in light of the New
Testament and the coming of Jesus Christ the messiah. [1: Matthew Henry, Commentary on Ezekiel

Section 1: Ezekiel?s Temple: Literal or Figurative
In an attempt to understand this portion of scripture it is necessary to ask: to whom was this vision
directed, during what period was this vision given, and for what purpose was the vision given in order
for organization and context. In Ezekiel 40: 4, Ezekiel was instructed to ??declare all that thou seest to
the house of Israel.? As such, the

Persuasive Essay On Open Internet
known about it. The internet is crucial to our daily lives now, it not just a simple fad that gets forgotten
in a week or two, but a tool that we utilized every day. The number of benefits that comes from the
internet is uncountable, for example with the aid of the internet we now have instantaneous access to
work, entertainment, medical, and countless more. Though that may change with the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai proposing to end net neutrality or also known
as the open internet. Net neutrality was designed to keep the internet, open, fast, free, and safe from
prominent Internet service providers (ISP) companies like Verizon, Comcast, and TimeWarner from
trying to charge more for speed, and specific website access, something that is and should be free from
the beginning. One author of the article Net neutrality: needed or not? states that Net neutrality is
about protecting the status quo that is the open Internet. On many levels, the term open Internet is
redundant. If it weren t open, it wouldn t be the Internet. He is right the internet would not be the same
if everyone did not have equal access because of companies trying to profit. Others, however, are
saying that there is no need for having net neutrality because it is unwanted and hindering the markets
from being able to rise sufficiently. According to the study The end of net neutrality is nigh here s
what s likely to happen author Paul Fredric, cited Dane Jasper, CEO, and co founder of California
Avila 1 based ISP Sonic in 2015, and he said, ...Small ISPs will suffer when you have failed
competitive market, with just one or two choices, you have an effective monopoly. They may have a
point in that smaller ISPs have a hard time with the current net neutrality in place, but at the end of the
day, there is more option for smaller ISPs to become more competitive in the markets, rather than
destroying the open internet just for single profits. Net neutrality is not only a simple regulation but a
vital building block of keeping the internet free and from big companies trying to cornering consumer
by slowing speed to pay for services that are free in the first place.

FALL 2015 Case Study Week 5: Winston Churchill
In 1946, Winston Churchill gave his speech that is known as The Iron Curtain , to announce the
beginning of the Cold War. The Iron Curtain consists of blocking the Soviet Union s ideals, politics
and military away from Europe. The Soviet Union valued communist ideals and a dictatorship. After
World War II, the United States became a pillar for the ideals of capitalism and democracy. The
Communist ideals imposed by Soviet Union expansion could threat the West because they go against
Western s morals. The United States has a history of fighting for freedom, for the ability of people to

For example, with government owned companies and limited opening for trade, Communist countries
treat the philosophy of free markets in the West, which could put a hold on many of the transactions
with Europe. The ideologies also conflicted in the sense of military goals. For the United States, the
goal was to protect democracy, a concept believed to be the best outcome for countries. Britain and the
United States wanted to help Germany recover from the war, and worried that Communism would
spread throughout Europe. The Soviet Union, on the other hand, wanted to spread Communist values
and gain allies in Europe to protect the Soviet Union against future invasions.
Churchill refers to the fact that the Soviet Union needs to secure its borders. His intentions were to say
that the Soviet Union had the right to want protection against a possible German aggression. He also
welcomed and recognized that the Soviet Union is among one of the most powerful nations of the
world, but it should not enforce it through military expansion and imposing a dictatorship system.
Churchill wanted to ask the Soviet Union politely to stop imposing its ideals and military intervention

Tony Andrews is a veteran sound engineer and a highly regarded sound system designer. Tony
Andrews and John Newsham founded the legendary sound system manufacturer known as Funktion
One in 1992. Before that they were also responsible for founding Turbosound in the 1970s which is
where Tony set out to get the perfect live sound (or as close to it as possible). Tony Andrews was
convinced that live sound could sound the way a band did in a recording studio. Tony s involvement
with the Glastonbury Festival (before Turbosound) led to the development of the proper festival sound
which consisted of separate cabinets for the lows, mids, and high frequencies. This revolutionized and
changed the quality of live sound in the mid 70s and paved the way for a new era of sound systems.
In 1978 Tony Andrews met John Newsham and formed Turbosound. They began designing and

How to Control Huntington’s Disease
Currently, there is no cure for Huntington s disease (HD) and only limited numbers of treatments are
effective in controlling HD symptoms. HD a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by
motor disturbances, psychiatric dysfunctions, and cognitive disabilities. HD is inherited in an
autosomal dominant manner, means that the inheritance of a single copy of the mutant huntingtin
allele containing an expanded CAG repeat region in exon 1 ( 36 CAG repeat) causes the disease.
Translation of the mutant allele mRNA yields the mutant huntingtin protein (mHtt) containing an
expanded polyglutamine region near the amino terminus, which favor protein cleavage and
accumulation of the N terminus in the nucleus. N terminal huntingtin affects transcription of subsets
of genes. Early in HD progression, levels of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and dopamine
receptor type 2 (D2) are reduced in the medium spiny neurons of the striatum. CB1 receptor is able to
activate several signaling pathways through the activation of different G proteins as well as arrestin 2.
Furthermore, compelling anatomical and physiological evidence suggests a strong interaction between
the CB1 and D2 receptors. Given this interaction between CB1 and D2 receptors, drugs that block or
activate either receptor will influence convergent signaling pathways. Typical and atypical
antipsychotics, including haloperidol and olanzapine, respectively, are commonly prescribed to HD
patients to control chorea and

Brief Facts of the FSI Case
Future Solutions, Inc GAO Brief Facts of the Case In this case FSI argued that the agency s purchase
from the FSS should have been set aside for small business and that EPA s failure to do so violated
Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) ยง 19.502 2(b). This regulation normally requires an agency to
set aside purchases for small businesses where there is a sensible anticipation of getting fair market
price offers from at least two dependable small business entities. However, there is currently no statute

to purchasing from FSS vendors. FSI also argued that its answer to the agency s sources sought notice
was not practically looked at, that the 5 page limit on its answer was unfair, and that its answer was
looked at in a prejudicially unequal manner in that the large business vendors were given the chance to
make oral presentations and have discussions. FSI finally challenged that the agency s bundling of its

Vice President of AFFLINK, Michael Wilson claims that if bacteria are being constantly exposed to
disinfectant, it can mutate to become resistant to them as well as resistant to antibiotics. Wilson works
to make different supply chains more efficient, and realized that hospitals are over disinfecting where
they need to only be cleaning. It s important to note that cleaning and disinfection are different
processes. Cleaning typically involves soap or a detergent and removes things that can be physically
seen such as dirt, food from a plate, or stains. Disinfecting involves chemically denaturing microbes,
small bacteria, or germs. Hospitals are trying to integrate a system that only disinfects certain high risk
contamination areas of a hospital and simply cleaning others. Disinfecting both effectively eliminates
bacteria and mold (Reynolds) and causes the strengthening and disinfectant and antibiotic resistance
(Wilson). The Lysol advertisement glorifies the idea of cleaning our environment down to the micro
particle, without telling the dangers of creating increasingly antibiotic resistant microbial organisms
that can result from the liberal application of disinfectant in ones home. However, according to the
Journal of Food Production, the use of sanitization wipes in the food industry increase(s) the risk of
foreign body contamination... from [the] wipes themselves, and that wipes were less effective than gel
or foam sanitization options. Disinfecting agents shouldn t be a go to as far as household cleaners go,
but disinfecting wipes can actually create cross contamination in one s home, all while the user

History, Ethnography, And Eulogy Of Agricola
Written by the Roman historian Tacitus, the Agricola chronicles the life of his father in law Gnaeus
Julian Agricola while also covering the ethnography and history of ancient Britain and Rome. After
the assassination of Domitian in 96 AD, Tacitus used his freedom to publish his work. Tacitus
describes the character of his father in law, by showing how he grew up in a household that
encouraged the study of philosophy and attended to matters of state with honesty and competence.
Tacitus explores different themes in the book including the history, ethnography, and eulogy of
Agricola. Near the beginning of the book, the historian Tacitus admits his disdain towards Domitian s
rule and the profound effect Domitian had on the Roman Empire. Tacitus claims that for fifteen years,
men fell victim to the cruelty of the emperor. He contrasts Nerva and Trajan, the next two emperors,
with their predecessor by stating that Nerva harmonized the old discord between autocracy and
freedom, and Trajan enriched the happiness of our times. Tacitus does not try to hide his contempt
towards Domitian, but he does not dwell on it for very long in the story. During the reign of Domitian,
Agricola has been the most important general involved in the conquest of a great part of Britain.
During his time as a general, his commendable characteristics began to unveil. Over the course of
seven years, the Romans began subjecting the native people of Britain to foreign rule. Tacitus goes

Reflection On The Bill Of Rights
Journal entry #45: December 16, 1791 Yesterday the Bill of Rights was ratified and it is the talk of the
country. I know many citizens, like myself, and political figures are satisfied with this addition to the
Constitution. Our president, George Washington, initially expressed in his inaugural address his desire
for a Bill of Rights that would display a reverence for the characteristic rights of freemen and a regard
for the public harmony... ( Washington s Inaugural Address of 1789 ). In my opinion, I feel the Bill of
Rights successfully expresses the characteristics George Washington described. This morning I was
discussing the Bill of Rights with some fellow journalists, and we all agreed that we felt a sense of
security knowing our rights cannot be stripped by our government. Even though we agreed on this, I
realized that we had extremely different views on which ones were most important to us. All the
amendments affect my life in a way, but some are more important to me than others. The First
Amendment has provided protection for my individual rights of speech, religion, assembly, press, and
petition of government. In my opinion, the First Amendment is the most important. As a journalist and
successful newspaper writer, freedom of press and petition of government are rights that I cherish. I
have many opinions that include my view on our government and the Bill of Rights has allowed me to
speak freely without any concerns. As a religious family man, the right to

Psychiatric Disorders And Music Therapy
Imagine living in a place with a distant community and a remote connection with everyone. That place
is a world without music. Music brings people together because it is a constant reminder that no
matter your gender, race, religion, and culture, people everywhere are the same in spirit and in heart.
Whether it is through the rhythm of a beat or lyrics from a song, music creates a bonds and trust with
others. Hans Christian Anderson once stated, Where words fail, music speaks . For instance, today s
generation of teenagers use music as a source of comfort and also a temporary solution for depression.
Young adults use the underlying meaning of lyrics to relate with one another which creates trust,
builds friendships, and relationships. Artist s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Center of Hearing and Communication, a subsequent study found that 26% of high
school seniors who played in the band had a measurable hearing loss as compared to 13% of high
school seniors who did not play in a band . Everyday band students are in a higher likelihood to
become hearing impaired because of the excessive and , loud instrumental activities. This shows that
although students are not aware of the consequences of ear splitting music many students are exposed
to permanent hearing loss and it is necessary to control the BPM levels . According to Center of
Hearing and Communication, the recommended BPM levels are between 120 130 BPM on average
but, teens usually go about 160 170 BPM levels causing serious tinnitus risks. Tinnitus affects about
one in five people and deafening volumes of music increases the chances. Teenagers see music
producers such as rap, hip hop, jazz musicians as gods and idolize them. When artists promote drugs,
violence sex in their lyrics that brainwashes the youth to follow that example. Young adults Thus
creating a generation of teenagers that are disobedient, threatening, and unacceptable adults in the

Comparison Between Fixed Cost And Dr. Pepper-Snapple Group
Fixed Cost On the other hand Dr. Pepper Snapple Group does have a large number of fixed cost. Fixed
costs are cost that are constant and must be paid no matter what level of the activity is chosen. DP has
over 21 manufacturing centers and 115 distribution centers around the world, according to Dr. Pepper
Snapple Group s annual report. This means that DP is paying rent on a large number of buildings,
leasing our buying equipment that they use at these facilities in order to produce DP. Those are
example of fixed cost, cost that have to be paid no matter what, this also means that if you have a bad
year and your company did not make as much as it did the year before you still have to pay for the
rent and utilities on all of those facilities.
Variable Cost Unlike fixed cost variable cost you have some room to play, variable cost is all about
changing inputs around to change output. Or as defined by Thomas and Maurice variable input is one

exact. In their annual report Dr. Pepper Snapple group showed to have quite an impressive year when
it came to growth and profit. With the profit of the company being up this also lead to the current
stock value as growing. This was explained both in the annual report and the current stock market

Thomas Paine Research Paper
Thomas Paine saw the government as a well unified Union. No problems truly to arise or inequality.
The government and people in America though do not remain true to the words of Thomas Paine. As
the poor and rich are not the same anymore. Times change; how life is, and making a shift of how
America is. Government may seem fair, though there are the times of unjust and favoritism for the
rich and opposition against the poor. With that, making America not holding true to the
characterization. The poor are oppressed while the rich are privileged. Many will say, we have
capitalist government. Yes the government is, but not everything will be fair for individuals. There are
times riots it s occur due to unfair treatment to certain individuals.

Organizational Structures and Systems Organizational Structures and Systems Jeffrey Ha MBA501 Human Interfaces Instructor: Dr. Eli Sopow Submission date: October 2, 2010 Organizational Structures and Systems Introduction This paper will examine organizational structures, organizational systems and how organizational culture influences both structure and systems. Throughout this paper, there will an analogy to the human body to help further the understanding of the concepts of structure and systems in an organization. This analogy is based on the academic work of Goold and Campbell (Goold Campbell, 2002). The first part of this paper will review different organizational structures. The second part will look at various organizational systems and how they may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, one should think of culture, structure and systems as a whole system (Goold Campbell, 2002) instead of independent, individual elements. The conclusion must be that collectively, these three elements create the foundation of an organization. When an organization does not use a holistic approach towards their culture, structure and systems, the organization could create a poor working environment for its employees and poor results for their customers. An example of culture, structure and systems not working well together can be seen in General Motors (GM). GM prior to its bankruptcy was seen to be a highly bureaucratic company in which brands, departments and regions operated like self governing and competing states with a federation (Smerd, J. 2009). Here is a first hand account of culture, structure and systems not being in harmony. In 1994, Ticketmaster (TM) United States became a major presence in the ticketing industry. As part of their growth strategy, they expanded through the re acquisition of all licensees. One of the licensees was the Canadian Ticketmaster business. From 1995 to 1997, TM Canada was forced to transform organizationally to become similar to our American parent. The cultural breakdown occurred when transitioning from networked (high on sociability; low on solidarity) to mercenary (low on sociability; high on solidarity) (Langton Robbins, 2007, p. #341 342). For example, the lack of accountability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perspectives On Psychology And Evaluate Their Key Assumptions Perspectives in Psychology This essay will give detailed descriptions of the behaviourist and cognitive perspectives in psychology and evaluate their key assumptions. The strengths and limitations of each perspective will be discussed along with an evaluation of their applications to contemporary issues in psychology. Finally there will be an analysis of the similarities and differences between each perspective and a conclusion. The behaviourist perspective is a scientific approach within psychology which claims that we are blank slates at birth and all human behaviour is learnt.Behaviourism was developed by John Watson in America in the early 1900s, (Cullis, T1999). He investigated his theory further by repeatedly pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditional stimulus, such as the ringing of a bell with the arrival of food; this eventually led to the bell ringing alone causing the dog to salivate. Pavlov believed the bell was a conditional stimulus and salivating to the bell was considered the conditional response. B. F. Skinner was another influential psychologist who developed the theory of operant conditioning. Unlike Pavlov, Skinner thought that behaviour was determined by the consequences or rewards generated after the response, he called this operant conditioning, (Cherry, K 2005). Skinner invented a device which contained a button which an animal could press in order to gain food, water or some other form of reinforcement. Using this box he discovered two forms of reinforcement, positive (which resulted in a favourable outcome), and negative (which resulted in removal of unfavourable outcomes). Cognitive psychology, as opposed to behavioural psychology, is the science of how we think. Cognitive psychologists are concerned with the human brain and its functioning as an information processor. That is saying that blacks never have or will contribute to anything in the world. That was another reason for slave owners to treat slaves like the scum on the bottom of their shoe. If blacks aren t doing anything to benefit us in any type of way, what s the point of treating them like human beings? That s probably how slave owners thought and they had a reason. Gilroy shows how it is represented in black music. This fundamental dislocation of black culture is especially important in recent history of black musics which, produced out of racial slavery which made modern western civilization possible, now dominate its popular cultures (Gilroy 80). Du Bois agrees with Gilroy about the sorrow songs. In The Souls of Black Folk Du Bois thinks that sorrow songs are a show of the achievements of African descendants in America. The songs have been passed down from generation to generation. The songs are just like their composers, have been polished by the fires of American slavery, inequality, and cruelty. These songs are the music of an unhappy people, and the creations of children of disappointment; and yet, they are also prayers which breathe hope and a faith in the ultimate justice of things (Du Bois 157). The sorrow songs are a way for slaves to speak to the world in their own special way. Du Bois begins every single chapter with a piece of religious music. That in itself shows how important the sorrow songs are. Slaves intentionally hold on to their troubles to use as motivation for overcoming future obstacles. Sorrow songs are the greatest ... Mountain Man Brewing Assignment for Week 9 DESCRIPTION Chris Prangel, a recent MBA graduate, has returned home to West Virginia to manage the marketing operations of the Mountain Man Beer Company, a family owned business he stands to inherit in five years. Due to changes in beer drinkers taste preferences, the company is now experiencing declining sales for the first time in its history. MMBC also has class cachet (it s a miner s beer) it s family owned, it s perceived as being high quality and it s a legacy product. People seem to drink Mountain Man as a way to connect with past generations of their family. Brand played a critical role in beer purchasing decision. The promotion of MMBC was done by accentuating its dark color by packaging it in a brown bottle, with its original 1925 design of a crew of coal miners printed on the front. Mountain Man Lager was priced similarly to premium domestic brands such as Miller and Budweiser but below specialty brands such as Sam Adams. MMBC used its own sales force to focus on off premise locations (liquor stores or supermarkets) with much success. Blue collar males purchased 60% of the beer they drank at these off premise locations. The decline in MMBC was due to changes in beer drinkers preferences. This decline was happening across the whole United States to the traditional premium beer category at an annual rate of 4%. I believe Mountain Man should introduce a light beer to make up for the loss of sales. The introduction into the market should be done with soft marketing in the core area that Mountain Man Lager is the strongest, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The killing of another human being is morally wrong and unacceptable. No one has the right to take away another persons life, whether it be through hatred and disgust, or compassion and love. Murder is murder. So why should those select few who work in the clinics of Switzerland, whose occupation is to assist in a person s suicide, become immune from this law against murder. For something as minor as depression (compared to terminal cancer), which can be treated through doctors and psychologists someone could take their life if they had this option. Also, doctors could see it as an opportunity to free up beds in a hospital and save it money at the same time. A 1998 study found that doctors who are cost conscious and practice resource conserving medicine are significantly more likely to write a lethal prescription for terminally ill patients [Arch. Intern. Med., 5/11/98, p. 974]. This suggests to us that medical costs do influence doctors opinions. But doctors should not be involved in directly causing death. This brings us to the controversial point of active and passive euthanasia. Some people think there is no real difference between the two, since stopping a treatment and administering one are both deliberate acts. But there is a moral difference between letting a person die peacefully and deliberately killing the person. Thou shalt not kill but needst not strive, officiously, to keep alive. ... D06 Old Testament Orientation II by Oliver M. Brown April 10, 2016 ii Introduction The prophecy of the Temple in Ezekiel 40 48 is said to be one of the most difficult portion of scripture. Many commentators have proposed varying views and approaches. It has even been reported that the Jews do not allow anyone to read it until they are 30 years of age. The internet is crucial to our daily lives now, it not just a simple fad that gets forgotten in a week or two, but a tool that we utilized every day. The number of benefits that comes from the internet is uncountable, for example with the aid of the internet we now have instantaneous access to work, entertainment, medical, and countless more. Though that may change with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai proposing to end net neutrality or also known as the open internet. Net neutrality was designed to keep the internet, open, fast, free, and safe from prominent Internet service providers (ISP) companies like Verizon, Comcast, and TimeWarner from trying to charge more for speed, and specific website access, something that is and should be free from the beginning. One author of the article Net neutrality: needed or not? states that Net neutrality is about protecting the status quo that is the open Internet. On many levels, the term open Internet is redundant. If it weren t open, it wouldn t be the Internet. He is right the internet would not be the same if everyone did not have equal access because of companies trying to profit. Others, however, are saying that there is no need for having net neutrality because it is unwanted and hindering the markets from being able to rise sufficiently. According to the study The end of net neutrality is nigh here s what s likely to happen author Paul Fredric, cited Dane Jasper, CEO, and co founder of California Avila 1 based ISP Sonic in 2015, and he said, ...Small ISPs will suffer when you have failed competitive market, with just one or two choices, you have an effective monopoly. HD a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor disturbances, psychiatric dysfunctions, and cognitive disabilities. HD is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, means that the inheritance of a single copy of the mutant huntingtin allele containing an expanded CAG repeat region in exon 1 ( 36 CAG repeat) causes the disease. Translation of the mutant allele mRNA yields the mutant huntingtin protein (mHtt) containing an expanded polyglutamine region near the amino terminus, which favor protein cleavage and accumulation of the N terminus in the nucleus. N terminal huntingtin affects transcription of subsets of genes. Early in HD progression, levels of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and dopamine receptor type 2 (D2) are reduced in the medium spiny neurons of the striatum. CB1 receptor is able to activate several signaling pathways through the activation of different G proteins as well as arrestin 2. Furthermore, compelling anatomical and physiological evidence suggests a strong interaction between the CB1 and D2 receptors. Given this interaction between CB1 and D2 receptors, drugs that block or activate either receptor will influence convergent signaling pathways. Typical and atypical antipsychotics, including haloperidol and olanzapine, respectively, are commonly prescribed to HD patients to control chorea and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brief Facts of the FSI Case Future Solutions, Inc GAO Brief Facts of the Case In this case FSI argued that the agency s purchase from the FSS should have been set aside for small business and that EPA s failure to do so violated Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) ยง 19.502 2(b). This regulation normally requires an agency to set aside purchases for small businesses where there is a sensible anticipation of getting fair market price offers from at least two dependable small business entities. However, there is currently no statute or regulation that requires the agency to set aside this condition for small businesses as an alternative to purchasing from FSS vendors. FSI finally challenged that the agency s bundling of its office supplies rations into the BPA violates requirements of the Small Business Act, 15 U.S.C. ยง 631(j)(3), which requires agencies to steer clear of needless and unfounded bundling of contract requirements that prevent small business participation in procurements as prime contractors. It s important to note that cleaning and disinfection are different processes. Cleaning typically involves soap or a detergent and removes things that can be physically seen such as dirt, food from a plate, or stains. Disinfecting involves chemically denaturing microbes, small bacteria, or germs. Hospitals are trying to integrate a system that only disinfects certain high risk contamination areas of a hospital and simply cleaning others. After the assassination of Domitian in 96 AD, Tacitus used his freedom to publish his work. Tacitus describes the character of his father in law, by showing how he grew up in a household that encouraged the study of philosophy and attended to matters of state with honesty and competence. Tacitus explores different themes in the book including the history, ethnography, and eulogy of Agricola. Near the beginning of the book, the historian Tacitus admits his disdain towards Domitian s rule and the profound effect Domitian had on the Roman Empire. Tacitus claims that for fifteen years, men fell victim to the cruelty of the emperor.
