Response To Public Art
Page 1 description response to public art Art is undefined. There are no rules and no boundaries to art.
Art is whatever you want it to be. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems like today, art is
everywhere. Someone is trying to express how they feel or trying to persuade people to their cause or
efforts. Art to us is the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, or Starry Night by Van Gogh; but it also can be spray
paint on the side of a train, or a drawing on the bathroom stall. However you feel, you can express
yourself through art. It is a way to relay your feelings to the general public. It seems that the best art,
is the art that leaves you guessing the meaning. Wondering what the artist was feeling when making
their piece. There is no right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dangle from the ceiling in no particular order. As students walk by underneath, the glass turns and
waves with the shift in air, giving the art movement and life. The location of this piece is not as
important as the fisherman. It does need a ceiling, preferably one with a lot of traffic and natural light.
The piece does have LED lights on some of the glass pieces and they change color. To me, this piece
looks like a school of fish, swimming around in the ocean. That is why I related it to the fisherman in

Communication between Morton Thiokol (the company that designed the Solid Rocket Boosters)
engineers and NASA management was also very poor. After the incident, Roger Boisjoly, a Morton
Thiokol engineer, stated that the meetings prior to the Challenger launch were filled with intense
customer intimidation (Boisjoly 1). Obviously, this was not a conducive environment to creating an
atmosphere where everyone was comfortable expressing their opinions and making thoughtful
decisions. The truth of the is that Morton Thiokol did not have any information on how its Solid
Rocket Boosters and O rings would perform at temperatures less than 51 ºF. The night before the
launch, the temperature outside fell to 18 ºF, and in the morning of the launch the temperature was at
36 ºF. At that moment, some engineers believed that the boosters would still be able to function safely
under these conditions, however many were very worried that the temperature would cause a failure.
The inability of the Morton Thiokol engineers to convey their concerns to the NASA management and
convince them to postpone the shuttle s launch is a factor that led to the tragic

A Comparison Of Abraham Lincoln And Nathan Bedford Forrest
The Civil War was the most divisive moment in American History, and decided the fate of the Union
forever. It created many of the social and political divides and contrasts in culture that are still seen in
today s world. The war was the eruption that had been brewing since the birth of the United States.
Two of the important figures in the Civil War period are Abraham Lincoln and Nathan Bedford
Forrest. Both were influential in their own respective countries and both were seen as great leaders by
their own countries citizens. If the South won the war, Forrest would have been seen as more of a hero
than he is in the world today. Because the Union won the war, though, the more important figure is
Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was also more influential than Nathan Bedford Forrest because
of his honest character, compassion, and determination. Abe Lincoln was able to win people over
because of his understanding of society. He showed attributes that, at the time, were more caring and
loving than most people. For example, in some of his speeches from Illinois, he took a stance against
slavery. He questioned if slavery was morally and constitutionally right, which was a big risk at the
time. This move won over the liberal citizens in America, but greatly alienated the South, especially
when Abe Lincoln won the election of 1860. His determination was another huge factor to him being a
great influence. Even though he started out not taking the War seriously, which causes the Union to
lose some important battles, these losses are a wake up call for Lincoln, which reinvigorates him to
fight back against the South and win the war, saving the Union and freeing the slaves. This ended up
being his greatest strength, and what decides how he is remembered in history forever. While Lincoln
is more remembered in history, on the other side of the coin is Nathan Bedford Forrest. Even though
he was on the losing side, he was still well respected by people on both sides of the war, unlike
Lincoln who was hated by the South. He went down as a great general and a great tactician in the
Civil War. However, unlike Lincoln, his reputation is blown out of proportion and misinformed by
bias. In the South, he was remembered as a

The Structure of the American Government
The 3 Branches of Government
The constitution was established by men who had experienced the dictatorships of Europe and had
escaped from its grasp. They sought to establish a form of government that would never allow a
dictatorship or tyrant ruler to hold power over the people like in the places they had fled. With their
creation of the foundation of what our government is today they created a system where 3 branches
were all of equal power and each could be overruled by another which prevented any branch
becoming superior of another. The separation of powers provides a system of shared power called
Checks and Balances.(2) The three branches are legislative, judicial and executive and they each have
specific powers to balance those of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since our Congress is bicameral, a system of self checking is practiced. For example, bills have to be
passed by both Houses prior to ratification.
The duty of the Executive Branch is to enforce the laws of the United States. (1) The branch is headed
by the President of the United States. The President is the most influential person in the government
and represents our nation to the rest of the world. However, the actions and opinions stated by our
President represent the Executive branch as a whole. The president depends upon many people who
advise him in how to try to gain the highest level of satisfaction for the American people. The
President has several constitutional duties aside from the general enforce the laws duty. These are:
• To be Commander in Chief of the military
• To conduct foreign affairs
• To negotiate treaties with other nations
• To nominate members of the cabinet, judiciary, etc.
• To review and sign or veto bills
• To administer the laws of the nation
• To issue pardons as he sees fit
• To address the Congress from time to time to assess the state of the nation
The powers of the Executive consist of: veto power over all bills; appointment of judges and other
officials; making treaties; ensureing all laws are carried out; the commander in chief of the military;
and has pardon power. All the executive powers still have the ability of being checked by the other
branches which prevents a president

The Importance Of Investment Case
Rod and Rachel could then opt to include a life interest provision in the Will, with the asset to be held
in a form of testamentary trust for their future intended beneficiaries such as the children, allowing the
sole survivor to reside in the property until they pass away or an agreed timeframe lapses (Brown,
2017).
Tax considerations will need to be made with this strategy, as in the event the share of the property is
sold by the beneficiary, it will be subject to CGT rules upon disposal, potentially reducing the value of
the inheritance if tax is determined to be payable (Ato.gov.au, 2017).
This may also be applicable in the event Rod held his investment properties, or Rachel held the
inherited property, and they were then distributed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is the risk that Rachel has not lodged a beneficiary nomination with her superannuation fund,
therefore the trustee will ultimately decide on who is to receive the benefits, which could mean the
death benefit is not distributed as per her true intentions.
There is also the risk of paying more tax in the event the death benefit is paid to a non dependant
(under tax law), when compared to someone whom is financially dependent or can claim
interdependency (Mediasuper.com.au, 2017). This will hinge on the proportion of the taxable and tax
free components of the benefit.
Despite being married for 30 years, there could be grounds for ex spouses to stake a claim on their
super benefits (family law split), hence will need to determine if formal settlements have already taken

Are you aware of how the funds are invested, and level of market risk being taken?

Virus Eradicates Through Mosquitoes Essay
Virus Eradicates Through Mosquitoes
Have you ever heard of a killer mosquito? In Alicia Campbell and H. Michael Dreher s article, A New
Transcontinental Disease: The West Nile Virus, they describe the virus s origination, transmission,
symptoms, treatment, how to avoid it, and the danger. The article was published in June of 2002 in
Medsburg Nursing Journal, because the virus is growing rapidly throughout America. The virus first
hit United States in New York in 1999, infecting sixty two people. The authors inform us that it is still
a mystery how the virus came to America. One thing is for sure, mosquitoes carry the virus, and they
are responsible for the infections in humans.
West Nile s origination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In July of 1999, at the Bronx Zoo workers noticed a large number of dead crows around the zoo.
Autopsies showed brain damage and heart damage. Scientists believe that the birds received West Nile
through imported birds to the zoo. It is very common for viruses to originate in sparsely populated
forests in Africa and Amazon rain forests.
The transmission period when a bird is infected takes four to five days to see any signs of the virus.
Once the mosquito receives the virus it takes ten to fifteen days to be able to infect a human and any
other animal. After being bitten, humans see signs of the virus after five to fifteen days.
There are many symptoms, but the most common include fever, headache, body ache, rash, and
swollen lymph glands. Once one notices various symptoms they can get tested to see if they are
infected by the virus through two different types of tests. The victim may take a serum sample that
takes a few days for results. The authors tell us that the better test is through cerebrospinal fluid which
only takes five hours for results.
Once diagnosed, there isn t much treatment for the virus. Usually the victim is hospitalized. Once
hospitalized the victim receives airway management, intravenous fluids, and ventilator support. Anti
herpes virus drugs are often times used to treat the West Nile virus.

What Does Myrtle Wilson Represent In The Great Gatsby
The 1920s, or the more popularly known Roaring Twenties, was a period where people expressed
themselves though the American Dream. The American Dream is the concept that with ambition and
hard work, one can achieve anything they desire. Despite the economy soaring through an increased
industry and the victory of World War I, F. Scott. Fitzgerald addresses the problems behind the scenes
of the wealthy through his novel, The Great Gatsby. The story takes place in Long Island during this
extravagant age and the characters who believe in the American Dream share common themes:
immoral behavior and destruction that follows such conduct. Myrtle Wilson is a materialistic woman
who wants the luxurious life of the upper class. when I married him. I knew right away I made a

be with Daisy is gone. Gatsby observes Daisy s house across his mansion after his rejection yet does
not see a green light. So I walked away and left him (Gatsby) standing there in the moonlight

Shakespeare s Sister
Virginia Woolf in the chapter Shakespeare s Sister from A Room of One s Own states that women in
the 19th and 20th century did not have the same privileges and opportunities that men got in their
lifetime, thus not being able to explore their passions of writing and art, rather being the slave of any
boy whose parents forced a ring upon her finger (694). She uses this to argue why women are seen as
inferior to men and that if women had had the same freedoms to live life contrary to what society
insists, they would be able to write like Shakespeare and have an equal playing field to men.
One of Woolf s main points in her essay is that women did not get the same opportunities as men and
were discouraged by society to write, act, and make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woolf states: Because the mind of an artist, in order to achieve the prodigious effort of freeing whole
and entire the work that is in him, must be incandescent, like Shakespeare s mind, (703). By this she
means that men had the freedom to write, they did not have society discouraging them, or putting
roadblocks in their way. Women could not think for themselves because society was constantly telling
them what they should do and who they should marry, and encouraging them to be mothers, rather
than leaders. Having to live up to society s expectations certainly did not let women have an
incandescent mind. Woolf also states: The world did not say to her as it said to them, Write if you
choose; it makes no difference to me. The world said with a guffaw, Write? What s the good of your
writing (701). This lack of encouragement for women made it difficult for them to achieve their
dreams and be able to showcase their talents to the world.
This false notion of men being intellectually superior to women was a widely accepted idea in the 19th
century. Woolf explains, there was an enormous body of masculine opinion to the effect that nothing
could be expected of women intellectually (702). By this, one could infer that women were only seen
for their beauty, and as wives. This objectification of women is seen in society today through media s
portrayal of women, and through many cultural norms of women being expected to stay at home and

Learning is a lesson that is always changing we each learn new things we are proud of. However,
when trying to gain a ability to do something, we have to keep trying. Giving up before getting
anywhere is not an option. Do or do not there is no try said by Yoda from Star Wars . I have had many
important experiences in my life, but I have the fondest memory of one specific learning moment that
greatly affected my life. I will now show everyone a time where I learned how to swim. At first, it was
a couple of years back around the time when I was five years old. I mean of course I had been in a
pool before that, but I had to wear floaties since my parents would be scared to death if something
awful occurred. When I finally turned five; however, my parents thought it was time for the floaties to
come off and I thought so too. I was ecstatic at the thought of the floaties finally coming off after all
this time. There was not a glance of fear through my mind until I got to the pool. However, at that first
glance looking back into my past I remember the first thought that crossed my mind as I looked
towards the pool. This is going to be easy I thought. I was delusional I had no idea how wrong I was
until I took those first steps into the deep end of the pool. After a couple of days, I can remember this
part clearly; I was so scared of going back into the pool thinking

Female Issues Affecting The Indian Society Essay
Abstract
The age old problem of female related issues affecting the Indian society adversely continues to exist
today in the 21st century. The advancement of new age, technology, scientific inventions, standard of
life, and change in life style has failed to bring in change of the mindset. The problem of female
infanticide in India seems to be persistent. The alarming records collected by local, regional, national
and international bodies only reflect the drastic decline in the male female ratio. The matter is of
serious concern and what is required is not only law but the change that each one has to bring in
understanding that when Nature was impartial in evolving man and woman, why has the society then
brought about gender discrimination.
This paper is an attempt to discuss the present and future repercussions faced due to female
infanticide. Since the society is reflected through literature, art and fiction, the writer has made an
attempt to make a journey of today s reality through Sujata Bhatt s poem Voice of the Unwanted Girl
and Manish Jha s motion picture, Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women that is set in the 2050s.

I Have The Pleasure Of Teaching Maiyuki Druen Essay
I have had the pleasure of teaching Maiyuki Druen for three years; as an 8th grader in Advanced
Geometry, as a sophomore in Math 174 Dual Credit Pre Calculus through Morehead State University,
and currently as a junior in AP Calculus. In 8th grade, Maiyuki chose to arrive at school an hour
earlier in order to take Advanced Geometry at the high school. She was by far the best student in the
class, even though she was in a class of extremely bright freshmen and sophomore high school
students. Constantly pursuing opportunities for herself, as a sophomore, she chose to take a dual credit
class designed for juniors and seniors. She requested special permission in order to take this college
level class as a sophomore, and it was granted based on her stellar academic record. She continues to
push herself academically in my AP Calculus class. She accepts the challenging problems I assign to
the class as an opportunity to further develop her understanding of the mathematics we are studying.
She often spends time analyzing the different approaches to a problem in order to determine the best
course of action, and will diligently work the solution discussing her results with her peers. Often I
will observe her having a discussion about the problem solving process with a fellow student rather
than just conferring about her solution.

Racism In Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon
Title Analysis The title of Toni Morrison s acclaimed novel Song of Solomon has a few meanings that
can go along with it. The first is an allusion to the biblical book Song of Songs or commonly know as
Song of Solomon which is all about sexual themes and desires and that. The next meaning is a
reference to the protagonist s great grandfather whose name was Solomon and had a song about him in
which Solomon could fly and left his son Jake on the ground and inevitably to a white man s house.
Major Themes Racism: Racism plays a very pivotal role in this work as it shapes a character
thoroughly and even an entire group. Racism is seen to affect Guitar and the Seven Days the most as

Monetary Policy Vs Federal Reserve System
The term monetary policy refers to what the Federal Reserve, the nation s central bank, does to
influence the amount of money and credit in the U.S economy. The main goals of this policy are to
achieve or maintain full employment, as well as, a high rate of economic growth, and to stabilize
prices and wages. By enforcing an effective monetary policy, the Federal Reserve System can
maintain stable prices, thereby supporting conditions for long term economic growth and maximum
employment. Up until the early 20th century experts felt that monetary policy had little use in
influencing the economy. After WWII inflationary trends caused governments to ratify measures that
decreased inflation by restricting growth in the money supply. Monetary policy is the domain of a
nation s central bank. The Federal Reserve System (commonly called the Fed) in the United States and
the Bank of England of Great Britain are two of the largest such banks in the world. Even though there
are some differences between the two, the basis of their operations are almost exact and are also
effective for highlighting the various measures that can constitute monetary policy. The Federal
Reserve System uses four main tools in regulating the money supply: open market operations, changes

Argument Essay Draft 2
To Hit or Not to Hit In 1973, Major League Baseball accepted Rule 5.11, also known as the
Designated Hitter (DH) rule. This rule allows a player, who does not play a defensive position, to hit
in place of the pitcher. The rule was created because pitchers, most of whom are notoriously bad
hitters, were basically a free out for the opposing team. However, for some ungodly reason, the new
DH rule was only established in one of the two leagues in the MLB. As a result, the American League,
the league using the DH rule, has consistently produced higher batting averages since 1973 than the
National League. When two teams from different leagues play each other, they ... Show more content

By expanding the DH rule to the National League, the MLB could create and extend more careers for
players just like Martinez. Many people against the designated hitter believe having a DH ruins the
integrity of the game. They think that teams should need to strategize by having pitchers bunt runners
to the next base or force managers to make the tough decision of when to substitute a hitter for the
pitcher. People opposed to the DH rule believe it is wrong to change the rules because this game has
been played the same way for more than 100 years. This is both a closed minded and ancient way of
thinking. Rules are meant to evolve and change over time to adjust to the times. The days of

new statistics and metrics that show how inefficient it is. The game is in need of more offense and
expanding the DH rule to both leagues solves that problem and is a necessary evolvement to the sport.
Over the past few years, pitching has been dominant and the officials in the MLB offices have looked
for new ways to increase offensive production. For the 2017 season, the MLB has attempted to fix this
problem by implementing a new type of baseball with a harder exterior and smaller laces which
increase the distance and reduce drag (also increasing distance) of batted balls. As a result, home run

Sports Injuries Research Paper
Sports Injuries
Sports injuries occur all the time, it is normal if two or three kids got hurt in a football game, that s not
okay. In the U.S., about 30 million children and teens participate in some form of organized sports,
and more than 3.5 million injuries each year, which cause some loss of time of participation, are
experienced by the participants ( John Hopkins Medicine ). This is a problem that can be solved if
everyone puts their mind to it. The way people could help is by working together to educate people,
change method, and enforce laws.
Sports injuries are a huge problem in our country right now and I believe we should try something
new to prevent it. There are many sports players that are getting concussions, breaking ... Show more

The players do not get a good enough punishment for breaking the rules. There are 3 million annual
injuries incurred during sports participation among children and adolescents in the United States, with
injury defined as the one that causes time lost from sports participation ( American Academy of
Pediatrics ). Although, many players are injured because other players are taking drugs. Doping and
other drug usage is very common in professional leagues. Doping has also become an issue for
professional sports in recent years , The issues have become so pointed in the early part of the 2000 s
that congressional hearings occurred to investigate the widespread use of performance enhancing
drugs in professional sports ( HGExperts ). Thankfully many organizations are already working on the
issue. There is much help needed for the problem to be completely exterminated. Organizations such
as the NOCSAE and ASTM International have developed helmet standards that specify test protocols
and quantitative impact criteria or the Severity Index ( National Academy of Services ). People need to
be aware of this very effective issue. With much help, sports injuries will be gone for

Essay on The Dystopia in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s...
The Dystopia in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale
Offred is a Handmaid in what used to be the United States, now the theocratic Republic of Gilead. In
order to create Gilead s idea of a more perfect society, they have reverted to taking the Book of
Genesis at its word. Women no longer have any privileges; they cannot work, have their own bank
accounts, or own anything. The also are not allowed to read or even chose who they want to marry.
Women are taught that they should be subservient to men and should only be concerned with bearing
children. Margaret Atwood writes The Handmaid s Tale (1986) as to create a dystopia. A dystopia is
an imaginary place where the condition of life is extremely bad, from deprivation, oppression, or ...

The Commanders characters show the reader how even men who do get privileges, such as ownership
and the ability to read, are unhappy with the society.
Another example is Ofglen. Ofglen is Offred s shopping partner who is a member of Mayday, which is
an underground organization dedicated to overthrowing Gilead. Although Ofglen and Offred are
shopping partners, they hardly know anything about each other. Ofglen doesn t know if Offred is part
of the resistance and asks her during one of their shopping trips. This is the conversation,
I thought you were a true believer, [Ofglen] says.
I thought you were, I say.
You were always so stinking pious.
So were you, I reply.
You can join us, she says (page 168).
This is the conversation where Ofglen tells about her part in the resistance. Ofglen is an important
character in Awood s creation of dystopia because she is the one who adds the idea that there are
multitudes of people who hate the way the republic is handling things. She is the one who says that
there is an underground resistance and that by trying to make a better world, Gilead has actually made
things a whole lot worse.
Offred s character is required because she gives flashbacks to the time before Gilead, giving the reader
an idea of the events leading up to the beginning of the novel. How bad the world before Gilead
sounds, the world of Gilead is much worse.

Ironically, we associate the phrase Death by Chocolate with the stomach ache from eating too much of

young children from small villages in neighbouring African countries and force them to work on the
plantations. Due to their low economic status, these children are coerced to endure labour intensive

The Death Of The Trenches
Children are often considered carefree and innocent, which is the reason behind their state of
happiness. They rarely cross paths with conflict from the outside world, but what happens when they
become men and are sent off to fight in the war? Otto Dix s visual representation along with the
poems, Suicide in the Trenches by Siegfried Sassoon, Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owens, and
Blessed Are by Charles Peguy all capture the horrors and distress caused by World War 1. When it
came time to enlist in the war, young men were ecstatic about becoming heroes by the act of serving
their country. Although, in reality these men did not know the consequences that came with their life
changing decision to go into combat. Sassoon s Suicide in the Trenches exposes the psychological
issues that overwhelmed one soldier in particular, but as the reader, it is clear that the feelings
described belong to any soldier that ever felt the wrath of the war. The first stanza paints a picture of a
soldier who knows nothing of death or destruction. Line number three, specifically, reads slept
soundly through the lonesome dark (Suicide in the Trenches). This shows that prior to the war, this
soldier felt comfortable and safe within the walls of his home and most importantly, he felt safe within
himself. The last mention of him is in the second stanza where it is revealed that he committed
suicide. The last stanza could resemble a call of action. The narrator calls the civilians

Introduction Osteoarthritis is a non inflammatory, degenerative disease of the joints. It is the most
common rheumatic disorder in older adults and results in degeneration of the protective cartilage over
time. This disease is characterized by chronic pain, stiffness and functional impairment. The joints
most commonly affected are those that are weight bearing; including the hips, knees and spine. This
disorder is asymmetrical and localized to a specific joint. Therefore, functional impairment and quality

The ideal team includes: a physical therapist, dietitian, occupational therapist, rheumatologist,
personal trainer, nurse educator, and a social worker. A physical therapist would provide the patient
with range of motion exercises to improve muscle strength, recommend therapeutic modalities, as well
as recommend activities that will help decrease pressure on the affected joints. Because weight loss is
crucial to managing and preventing further progression, it is important to incorporate a dietitian and
personal trainer. Dietitians are beneficial for creating personalized meal plans and suggesting
nutritious foods that will help aid in weight reduction, while personal trainers create exercise regimens
that are specific to the patients disease process. In addition, an occupational therapist will assist the
patient in performing tasks without causing further pain or discomfort. Education on joint protection
techniques include; using proper body mechanics when lifting, distributing pressure to other joints,
and the importance of using orthotic devices. A rheumatologist would also need to be included for
their specialization in rheumatic disorders. Lastly, a nurse educator and social worker would be
beneficial. A nurse educator would help educate the patient on the disease and treatment plan, while a
social worker would help assist the patient in dealing with social challenges caused

Analysis Of The Film Dances With Wolves
The 1990 film Dances With Wolves directed by Kevin Costner covers a number of topics such as the
Civil War, westward expansion, and white Indian relations. Being set in the frontier during the Civil
War, the primary issue the film raises is the white cruelty towards Native Americans during this time
period. This film can be classified as a realistic historical fiction because it depicts the humanity and
morals of the Sioux Indians while, at the same time, showing how they were treated by the white
American soldiers.
Dances With Wolves starts out by introducing the main character, John Dunbar, as a soldier in the
Civil War. John is portrayed as a strong man because he refuses his foot to be amputated, and he rides
a horse out onto the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because he was dressed like an Indian, the soldiers treated him as such, beating and calling him a
traitor. When he did not return for a few days, the Indians knew something was wrong, and they sent a
search party. In the same way that John helped the Sioux fight the Pawnee, the Sioux were now
helping John fight the soldiers. The rescue attempt was successful and they all made it back to the
village. Although Dances With Wolves is not a historically accurate and true story of the Civil War, it
is a historical fiction that is based on many true facts. The film starts off with a very unrealistic
beginning. It is set in the Civil War, on a battlefield, and John Dunbar rides a horse openly right past
the opposing side without getting shot. This seems to be the only unrealistic part of this film, however.
For example, the Sioux Indians not being total savages was true. White people did treat all Indians
poorly, and they justified their actions by saying that all Indians are savages. This film shows that in
fact, not all Indians were cruel and bloodthirsty, the Pawnee were the only mean Indians depicted. The
Sioux are portrayed as mostly peaceful humans with great moral standards. They only fight when they
feel threatened, such as by the Pawnee tribe, or the white soldiers that imprisoned Dances With
Wolves (John Dunbar). Furthermore, the problem of white men hunting buffalo was also based on true
facts. The Indians did not feel that it was the white

Sistine Chapel Ceiling Research Paper
Throughout the centuries civilizations have produced men and women of extreme talent. The
extraordinary works they created can define a period such as the cave art of ancient man or modern art
representing cultures of today. The High Renaissance period was just such a time of expression. A

One such story is of Sistine Chapel ceiling painting. Located in the Vatican, Italy by 1477 a new
renovation of the chapel was begun by Pope Sixtus IV lasting until 1480. He employed famous artists

Mothers And Daughters Have Those Typical Mother Daughter...
Most mothers and daughters have those typical mother daughter talks. You can compare them to a rite
of passage that continues for a period of time. The goal is to gain a closer bond between the two
females. Every once in a while, a mother will sit down with her daughter and they will talk about
anything. The topics can range from boys to advice or just describing your day. A mother isn t
supposed to be your best friend, that s not her role. She is a confidant or a great listener who
unconditionally loves you. My mother possesses those qualities; they just aren t usually put to use.
Each time we have our mother daughter talks they tend to be at the weirdest times: while driving me
to dance practice, while doing my hair, when I m trying to go to bed, etc. There is nothing wrong with
that. I know my mom is really busy. Between finishing work projects at home, cooking dinner and
raising five kids (I m including my father and our two dogs), this woman doesn t get a moment to
herself. So, our mother daughter talks turn out to be unconventional, at least compared to television
examples and what my friends talk about. I don t mind though. Our uniqueness makes our talks much
more memorable.
For example, our unforgettable first mother daughter talk. It was a late Tuesday night in September.

Geochemical Tracers Essay
4.2 Geochemical tracers
Due to recent advances in both quick analytical techniques for large numbers of samples and
numerical source apportioning models that allow a more detailed and quantitative understanding of the
uncertainty associated with estimated results, the geochemical tracers are extensively used in recent
sediment fingerprinting studies (Franz et al. 2013; Grimes et al. 2007). Such as rare earth elements
(REE; e.g., La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), major elements (e.g., Fe, K,
Na, Al, Ca and Mg) and trace elements (e.g., As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cs, Hf, Sc, Ta, Ti, Th and Zr), in both
source soil and sediment samples, have been used in sediment fingerprinting studies (Horowitz et al.
2012; Hughes et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natural geogenic REE signatures sometimes may be a potential proxy for identifying lacustrine
sediment sources and soil erosion rates (Wen et al. 2014). Though REEs has many advantages, owning
its relatively high cost, REEs have not been extensively used.
There are three approaches that can account for potential differences in sediment geochemistry
relating to particle size and mineralogy. One commonly used way of normalization is to use measured
bulk concentrations in the total sediment sample to account for differences in sediment geochemistry.
The diluting effects of non reactive constitutes (e.g., coarse sediment, quartz and feldspar grains) can
be removed. The second way of normalization is to divide the concentration of the potential tracer by
the concentration of the conservative element (e.g., Al, Ti and Li). The third method is to incorporate a
correction factor into the mixing model (Collins et al. 1998). Moreover, the geochemical tracer
method can also be applied to contemporary and historic sedimentary deposits for reconstructing
temporal changes in sediment provenance at the catchment scale (Thevenon et al. 2013).
4.3 Radionuclides
Atmospheric fallout radionuclides(FRN), such as 7Be, 10Be, 137Cs, 210Pb, 239Pu and 240Pu,
effectively tag surface sediments and the concentration declines markedly with depth and are
preferentially absorbed to clay minerals and organic matter due to their high specific surface area

Robert Duncan Poetry Analysis
Within this course, the ideas of the involvement of the mythological and the modern have been
searched for throughout various types of literature. We have analyzed poems, essays, theatrical plays
and even graphic novels to see the origin of their creative success among the masses. After studying
these pieces and their formal elements, we can see that most literature falls under classic mythological
premises such as ideas of a higher power/collective mind, power/wisdom through dream and the
purity/unforeseen knowledge of children. These ideas seem to be something that is only really
recognized by poets. The poem Often I Am Permitted To Return To A Meadow by Robert Duncan uses
all of these elements. Within this poet s work we see he composes a strong relationship between myth
and modern day with classical ideas, a powerful quality that makes a great poet. The idea of a higher
power or a collective mind is nothing new to humanity. The idea is as old as humanity itself and is
displayed in many modern practices and creations. The classic idea of a higher power is most widely
associated with religion. In every religion of any time period there was some belief of a higher power
or collective mind. From the polytheistic Greeks to the monotheistic Christians a higher power is
focused upon to explain things that were not yet comprehended.
Robert Duncan continues this tradition by including this idea in his opening line to start the entire
poem of with its classic sense. He begins

spent at Harvard for the past three years ultimately stating that Aristotle was false in his words about
passion, Well, no offense Aristotle but in my three years at Harvard I have come to find that passion is
a key ingredient to the study and practice of law and of life. Elle s address revolves around the source
of passion and faith in one s self in order to achieve one s goals. Her thesis, although not clearly

faith throughout her last dialog, and projects her voice on the phrase, ...passion is a key ingredient...
All through the movie, Elle s faith in herself and the passion to succeed is evident when she completes

Action Potential Analysis
In our brain we have neurons that communicate every second of the day with one other through their
dendrite and axons. Most of the time incoming signals are received in the dendrites and outgoing
signals travel down the axon to the nerve terminal. For the neuron to receive the rapid communication
due to the long axon, the neuron sends electrical signals, from the cell s body to the nerve terminal.
This process is known as nerve impulses, or action potential. Brain neurons can transmit signals using
a flow of sodium(Na+) and potassium (K+) ions, that produces an electrical spike called an action
potential (AP) (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). Action potential is essentially a slight reversal of electric polarity
across the membrane. When an action potential takes place, the sodium potassium pump resets the
way sodium and potassium ions were back to their original positions. The sodium potassium does this
to the neuron so when it is then ready to relay another action potential, it will pump when called upon
to do so. The Na+/K+ pump has a housekeeping role rather than a direct role in brain signaling
(Forrest, 2014, P. 1). For an action potential to be generated the membrane voltage must be strong
enough to bring the membrane voltage to a critical value called the threshold. ... Show more content

As the action potential is near its peak, sodium channels begin to close which then allows the
potassium channels to fully open. Potassium ions rush out of the cell and the voltage quickly returns to
its original resting state. This corresponds to the falling phase of the action potential. Sodium and
potassium at this point have switched places across the membrane and the resting membrane potential
is then slowly restored due to diffusion and the sodium potassium pump. Without the process of the
sodium potassium pump and the action potential, our nerve cells will not

when the author Zafón was writing the story, Barcelona (along with the rest of Spain) was engaged in
what was known as the pact of silence (Bethune 65). This pact of silence was fragile in every nature,
with citizens and government members alike choosing to keep quiet and not to stir the national
demons. Following several years of civil war, Spain was placed under the dictatorial rule of Francisco
Franco, who remained dictator until his death in 1975 (Bethune 65). It was after Franco s death that
the pact of silence was put into practice as a kind of national safeguard, in some ways allowing the
citizens of Spain to be able to relax again without having to constantly be reminded of the war s
deadly consequences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Spanish Civil War was mainly caused by a democratic government being established in Spain in
1931 ( Spanish Civil War ). The war was split between the rightists and leftists, with the leftists being
the party in charge of the democratic government that was enacted. Eventually, the left completely lost
control and engaged in what was called arming the people, which meant giving weapons and de facto
power to the revolutionary organizations ( Spanish Civil War ). When the democratic government
failed, Francisco Franco, rightist commander in chief of the military insurgents, installed himself as
dictator and chief of state. After this event, the war raged on for three long years, from 1936 1939,
with the worst fighting occurring in Barcelona in 1937 ( Spanish Civil

Vladimir Lenin And The Russian Revolution
Vladimir Lenin was the leader of the Russian revolution. Lenin s reason for writing State and
Revolution was to explain his view on Karl Marx s reasoning for a state and views on what the
proletariat, working class, should do during a revolution. The goal of a revolution such as this, a
communist revolution, is to give the power to the working people, which is to say that Lenin, similar
to Castro and Nkrumah, wants to be free from imperialism. Another is to Lenin s view on revolution is
that it can only be achieved through nationality and unity.(Lenin, State and Revolution, page 22) The
overthrow of bourgeois rule can be accomplished only by the proletariat, as the particular class, which,
by the economic conditions of its existence, is being prepared for this work and is provided both with
the opportunity and the power to perform it. (Lenin 23) He believes that a revolution can only succeed
with the use of violence from the proletariat against the party that is in control.(Lenin, 22 23) The
replacement of the bourgeois by the proletarian state is impossible without a violent revolution.
(Lenin, 22) As a leader Lenin is an advocate of change. He is a communist and believes in giving
power to the people, mainly the proletariat.(Lenin 20) Kwame Nkrumah, was the leader of Ghana first
as Prime Minister then as President once they gained independence from Great Britain. Nkrumah
wrote I speak of freedom: A statement of African Ideology in part because he

Bowling For Columbine Narrative Structure Essay
Narrative Structure in Michael Moore s
Bowling for Columbine
Michael Moore is a documentary film maker known for his controversial opinions and subject matter.
This documentary, Bowling for Columbine (2002), is Moore s second major film. It was named in
response to the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in which two boys went on a shooting spree,
thirteen people were killed and upwards of twenty were wounded. The two boys were reported to have
spent the morning before the massacre bowling. Despite its title, Moore s documentary focuses on the
broader issues of gun control and gun violence in America rather than just the case of the Columbine
boys.
As with the majority of his films, Michael Moore casts himself as the main focaliser in Bowling for
Columbine although there are other more minor characters (i.e. the boys who were victims of
Columbine) who assist through interviews. Repeatedly the audience is asked what America s
exponential gun violence can possibly be attributed to, as Moore provides several possible culprits.
The viewer follows Moore s personal, often satirical, vendetta to reveal the flaws of the NRA
(National Rifle Association), and America s gun laws as a whole. But the more important, underlying
problem Moore depicts is the state of fear American citizens live. It is a fear ... Show more content on

The company of K Mart is shown in equally unflattering light in response to their ready supply of
cheap bullets utilised by the Columbine boys. Moore rallies with two young victims of the shooting to
force the product from K Mart s shelves, they actually succeed in this endeavour making their quest to
the company s headquarters worthwhile. This underdog narrative is another characteristic of Moore s
documentaries as K Mart is vanquished by the rag tag group and Heston eventually recoils from

The Family Fang Analysis
In the words of renowned artist Pablo Picasso, the purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off
our souls . Art can be interpreted in many ways by those who view it, it can take many forms and its
purpose is not always clear. The way art is defined is just as broad. The Merriam Webster dictionary
defines it as a branch of learning , an occupation requiring knowledge or skill or as the conscious use
of skill and creative imagination . This definition can also be widened to include a branch of art
known as performance art, where art is performed and experience live by an audience. So, a legitimate
question that is asked is what is arts purpose? Kevin Wilson s The Family Fang is a novel that
explores the life of a family dedicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The early 1970 s, the period in which both pieces were preformed, saw the United States engaged in a
violent conflict in Vietnam with protests and demonstrations sometimes being put down with force.
Political unrest was visible especially among young artists. These young artists were at the center of
this resistance and used their art to make their views known. The work in the novel has the added
nuance of actually taking place on a university campus. Author Kathy O Dell remarks that she knew
that the Vietnam War was one of the reasons Burden pushed himself to such physical and phycological
limits (O Dell xii) in his performances. In the novel, Caleb and Hobart seem concerned most of all
with creating art that is noteworthy and meaningful (Wilson 186). One of the most noteworthily things
that can be done with their art is to create something with a political message behind it. In the novel,
this message is not explicitly stated, it is more clear in the real life version of the act. In 2005, Burden
explained certain aspects of his original 1971 performance. He says all of a sudden U.S. troops were
shooting at protesting students... all of a sudden it [the violence] ... took on another dimension . He
took the social unrest and unease he saw around him and used his art as a platform to start a
conversation around the war in Vietnam and the prevalence of violence in general. These

Carle Van Loo The Resurrection Essay
In Carle Van Loo s 1734 painting The Resurrection, Carle paints an awesome painting of Jesus during
his ascension after the event of the Resurrection. Being the royal painter he was, Carle was
commissioned to paint numerous works and gained expertise for paintings that involved religious
figures among them were the Virgin Mary and Jesus. In this particular painting Carle portrays both the
Resurrection and Jesus Christ in a god like manner but at the same time displays human elements that
really let people understand why Jesus is known as the King of Kings.
From an initial glance, the viewer notices that the painting is encased in a lavish golden frame. The
fancy design is representative of the religious paintings commissioned by nobles and the Catholic
Church in the Renaissance era, thus further pointing that the painting has significant importance and
meaning. As for the painting, the viewer notices that Jesus in ... Show more content on

The Resurrection accurately portrays this by having Him floating in the middle to top of top signifying
both his connection to Heaven and his hierarchical position in ruling the world. This point is further
nailed in as it is seen that an angel is on His right like his right hand man . Whilst floating, the man on
the lefts looks as if he were subdued in His presence while the man on the right appears as if bowing
in reverence to Jesus. Being born to Mary, Jesus is still a human. This is characterized by Jesus human
appearance by looking what people looked by then as a person that had white skin with a medium
build and frame. He is not portrayed as some monstrous muscular being like Zeus. Also, in the
painting, Jesus is surrounded with the warm colors of red orange and yellow which in many works of
art signify that he is is one who brings light, positivity, and hope. Another aspect that portrays Jesus
humanity is that in the painting He appears as if he is preaching and not committing any act of

Michael Grant s Lies Essay
Have you ever thought that things could never get worse? That this is going to be the worse part of
your life and everything is going to be wonderful? More often than not this is never true, and in this
instance in the book Lies by Michael Grant these kid s lives are changing for the worst. It has been
seven months now since all of the adults and teenagers at least the age of fifteen vanished out of
nowhere like water in the desert (☺ Simile). Additionally, there is a gigantic dome that is enclosing
Perdido Beach and Coates Academy and no one can get out. To make things even more interesting,
there is no connection from the outside world and for some reason kids are developing powers and
people are coming back from the dead. Also, there is a dearth of food and everyone is starving.
Presently, there is a vast fire that is burning the town of Perdido Beach and Sam Temple (the leader of

This book interests me because it has a lot of action. Shoot him! Shoot him! three shotguns in rapid
succession. BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Sam fired back. Pencils of blistering green light scoured the
sand. A cry of pain. Don t run away! Cowards! (Grant 248). That was when the town of Perdido Beach
was on fire and Sam was fighting them by using his powers against the H.C (Human Crew) and the
leader Zil. This book is also interest s me because Michael Grant (the author of the book) shows the
perspectives of kids my age and their reaction to certain situations. An example is when Sam Temple
meets once again his adversary. Hey there Sammy. Long time, huh? No, Sam gasped. Oh, yes, the
voice snarled. The voice Sam knew. The voice he dreaded (Grant 249). Sam s adversary is a boy
named Drake who is a truculent person, has a tentacle for a hand, and is Caine s right hand man.
Drake scares Sam because Drake whipped him at the power plant and he remembers feeling all the

Asymmetric Warfare In African Sub-Saharan Countries
For African sub Saharan countries, asymmetric warfare has erupted since their independence and they
have developed internal, regional and multinational strategies to respond to threats of modern warfare.
In other words, the concept of asymmetric warfare means using of unconventional tactics against a
superior opponent operational objectives. So, every country has adapted a national strategy of Defense
to respond to asymmetric threats. For example the Special Operation Forces or light infantry units are
merged for counterinsurgency operations. At regional level, there are two types of organizations,
alliances and coalitions that face the same threats. For example, to fight the Boko Haram terrorist

The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems like today, art is everywhere. Someone is trying to express how they feel or trying to persuade people to their cause or efforts. Art to us is the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, or Starry Night by Van Gogh; but it also can be spray paint on the side of a train, or a drawing on the bathroom stall. However you feel, you can express yourself through art. It is a way to relay your feelings to the general public. It seems that the best art, is the art that leaves you guessing the meaning. Obviously, this was not a conducive environment to creating an atmosphere where everyone was comfortable expressing their opinions and making thoughtful decisions. The truth of the is that Morton Thiokol did not have any information on how its Solid Rocket Boosters and O rings would perform at temperatures less than 51 ºF. The night before the launch, the temperature outside fell to 18 ºF, and in the morning of the launch the temperature was at 36 ºF. At that moment, some engineers believed that the boosters would still be able to function safely under these conditions, however many were very worried that the temperature would cause a failure. • 5. A Comparison Of Abraham Lincoln And Nathan Bedford Forrest The Civil War was the most divisive moment in American History, and decided the fate of the Union forever. It created many of the social and political divides and contrasts in culture that are still seen in today s world. The war was the eruption that had been brewing since the birth of the United States. Two of the important figures in the Civil War period are Abraham Lincoln and Nathan Bedford Forrest. Both were influential in their own respective countries and both were seen as great leaders by their own countries citizens. If the South won the war, Forrest would have been seen as more of a hero than he is in the world today. Because the Union won the war, though, the more important figure is Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was also more influential than Nathan Bedford Forrest because of his honest character, compassion, and determination. Abe Lincoln was able to win people over because of his understanding of society. He showed attributes that, at the time, were more caring and loving than most people. For example, in some of his speeches from Illinois, he took a stance against slavery. He questioned if slavery was morally and constitutionally right, which was a big risk at the time. This move won over the liberal citizens in America, but greatly alienated the South, especially when Abe Lincoln won the election of 1860. His determination was another huge factor to him being a great influence. Even though he started out not taking the War seriously, which causes the Union to lose some important battles, these losses are a wake up call for Lincoln, which reinvigorates him to fight back against the South and win the war, saving the Union and freeing the slaves. This ended up being his greatest strength, and what decides how he is remembered in history forever. While Lincoln is more remembered in history, on the other side of the coin is Nathan Bedford Forrest. Even though he was on the losing side, he was still well respected by people on both sides of the war, unlike Lincoln who was hated by the South. He went down as a great general and a great tactician in the Civil War. However, unlike Lincoln, his reputation is blown out of proportion and misinformed by bias. • 6. The Structure of the American Government The 3 Branches of Government The constitution was established by men who had experienced the dictatorships of Europe and had escaped from its grasp. They sought to establish a form of government that would never allow a dictatorship or tyrant ruler to hold power over the people like in the places they had fled. With their creation of the foundation of what our government is today they created a system where 3 branches were all of equal power and each could be overruled by another which prevented any branch becoming superior of another. The separation of powers provides a system of shared power called Checks and Balances.(2) The three branches are legislative, judicial and executive and they each have specific powers to balance those of ... The Importance Of Investment Case Rod and Rachel could then opt to include a life interest provision in the Will, with the asset to be held in a form of testamentary trust for their future intended beneficiaries such as the children, allowing the sole survivor to reside in the property until they pass away or an agreed timeframe lapses (Brown, 2017). Tax considerations will need to be made with this strategy, as in the event the share of the property is sold by the beneficiary, it will be subject to CGT rules upon disposal, potentially reducing the value of the inheritance if tax is determined to be payable (Ato.gov.au, 2017). In July of 1999, at the Bronx Zoo workers noticed a large number of dead crows around the zoo. Autopsies showed brain damage and heart damage. Scientists believe that the birds received West Nile through imported birds to the zoo. It is very common for viruses to originate in sparsely populated forests in Africa and Amazon rain forests. The transmission period when a bird is infected takes four to five days to see any signs of the virus. Once the mosquito receives the virus it takes ten to fifteen days to be able to infect a human and any other animal. After being bitten, humans see signs of the virus after five to fifteen days. There are many symptoms, but the most common include fever, headache, body ache, rash, and swollen lymph glands. Once one notices various symptoms they can get tested to see if they are infected by the virus through two different types of tests. The victim may take a serum sample that takes a few days for results. The authors tell us that the better test is through cerebrospinal fluid which only takes five hours for results. Once diagnosed, there isn t much treatment for the virus. Usually the victim is hospitalized. Once hospitalized the victim receives airway management, intravenous fluids, and ventilator support. • 10. Shakespeare s Sister Virginia Woolf in the chapter Shakespeare s Sister from A Room of One s Own states that women in the 19th and 20th century did not have the same privileges and opportunities that men got in their lifetime, thus not being able to explore their passions of writing and art, rather being the slave of any boy whose parents forced a ring upon her finger (694). She uses this to argue why women are seen as inferior to men and that if women had had the same freedoms to live life contrary to what society insists, they would be able to write like Shakespeare and have an equal playing field to men. One of Woolf s main points in her essay is that women did not get the same opportunities as men and were discouraged by society to write, act, and make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woolf states: Because the mind of an artist, in order to achieve the prodigious effort of freeing whole and entire the work that is in him, must be incandescent, like Shakespeare s mind, (703). By this she means that men had the freedom to write, they did not have society discouraging them, or putting roadblocks in their way. Women could not think for themselves because society was constantly telling them what they should do and who they should marry, and encouraging them to be mothers, rather than leaders. Having to live up to society s expectations certainly did not let women have an incandescent mind. Woolf also states: The world did not say to her as it said to them, Write if you choose; it makes no difference to me. The world said with a guffaw, Write? What s the good of your writing (701). This lack of encouragement for women made it difficult for them to achieve their dreams and be able to showcase their talents to the world. This false notion of men being intellectually superior to women was a widely accepted idea in the 19th century. Woolf explains, there was an enormous body of masculine opinion to the effect that nothing could be expected of women intellectually (702). By this, one could infer that women were only seen for their beauty, and as wives. This objectification of women is seen in society today through media s portrayal of women, and through many cultural norms of women being expected to stay at home and ... Learning is a lesson that is always changing we each learn new things we are proud of. However, when trying to gain a ability to do something, we have to keep trying. Giving up before getting anywhere is not an option. Do or do not there is no try said by Yoda from Star Wars . I have had many important experiences in my life, but I have the fondest memory of one specific learning moment that greatly affected my life. I will now show everyone a time where I learned how to swim. At first, it was a couple of years back around the time when I was five years old. I mean of course I had been in a pool before that, but I had to wear floaties since my parents would be scared to death if something awful occurred. When I finally turned five; however, my parents thought it was time for the floaties to come off and I thought so too. I was ecstatic at the thought of the floaties finally coming off after all this time. There was not a glance of fear through my mind until I got to the pool. However, at that first glance looking back into my past I remember the first thought that crossed my mind as I looked towards the pool. This is going to be easy I thought. • 12. Female Issues Affecting The Indian Society Essay Abstract The age old problem of female related issues affecting the Indian society adversely continues to exist today in the 21st century. The advancement of new age, technology, scientific inventions, standard of life, and change in life style has failed to bring in change of the mindset. The problem of female infanticide in India seems to be persistent. The alarming records collected by local, regional, national and international bodies only reflect the drastic decline in the male female ratio. The matter is of serious concern and what is required is not only law but the change that each one has to bring in understanding that when Nature was impartial in evolving man and woman, why has the society then brought about gender discrimination. This paper is an attempt to discuss the present and future repercussions faced due to female infanticide. Since the society is reflected through literature, art and fiction, the writer has made an attempt to make a journey of today s reality through Sujata Bhatt s poem Voice of the Unwanted Girl and Manish Jha s motion picture, Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women that is set in the 2050s. ... missing women tell(s) us, quietly, a terrible story of inequality and neglect leading to the excess morality of women . I Have The Pleasure Of Teaching Maiyuki Druen Essay I have had the pleasure of teaching Maiyuki Druen for three years; as an 8th grader in Advanced Geometry, as a sophomore in Math 174 Dual Credit Pre Calculus through Morehead State University, and currently as a junior in AP Calculus. In 8th grade, Maiyuki chose to arrive at school an hour earlier in order to take Advanced Geometry at the high school. Constantly pursuing opportunities for herself, as a sophomore, she chose to take a dual credit class designed for juniors and seniors. She requested special permission in order to take this college level class as a sophomore, and it was granted based on her stellar academic record. She continues to push herself academically in my AP Calculus class. She accepts the challenging problems I assign to the class as an opportunity to further develop her understanding of the mathematics we are studying. She often spends time analyzing the different approaches to a problem in order to determine the best course of action, and will diligently work the solution discussing her results with her peers. • 16. Racism In Toni Morrison s Song Of Solomon Title Analysis The title of Toni Morrison s acclaimed novel Song of Solomon has a few meanings that can go along with it. The first is an allusion to the biblical book Song of Songs or commonly know as Song of Solomon which is all about sexual themes and desires and that. The next meaning is a reference to the protagonist s great grandfather whose name was Solomon and had a song about him in which Solomon could fly and left his son Jake on the ground and inevitably to a white man s house. Major Themes Racism: Racism plays a very pivotal role in this work as it shapes a character thoroughly and even an entire group. • 18. Monetary Policy Vs Federal Reserve System The term monetary policy refers to what the Federal Reserve, the nation s central bank, does to influence the amount of money and credit in the U.S economy. The main goals of this policy are to achieve or maintain full employment, as well as, a high rate of economic growth, and to stabilize prices and wages. By enforcing an effective monetary policy, the Federal Reserve System can maintain stable prices, thereby supporting conditions for long term economic growth and maximum employment. Up until the early 20th century experts felt that monetary policy had little use in influencing the economy. After WWII inflationary trends caused governments to ratify measures that decreased inflation by restricting growth in the money supply. Monetary policy is the domain of a nation s central bank. The Federal Reserve System (commonly called the Fed) in the United States and the Bank of England of Great Britain are two of the largest such banks in the world. Even though there are some differences between the two, the basis of their operations are almost exact and are also effective for highlighting the various measures that can constitute monetary policy. Essay To Hit Or Not To Hit Nic Wilson Dr. Hancock ENGWR 300 10:30 8 October 2017 Argument Essay Draft 2 To Hit or Not to Hit In 1973, Major League Baseball accepted Rule 5.11, also known as the Designated Hitter (DH) rule. This rule allows a player, who does not play a defensive position, to hit in place of the pitcher. The rule was created because pitchers, most of whom are notoriously bad hitters, were basically a free out for the opposing team. However, for some ungodly reason, the new DH rule was only established in one of the two leagues in the MLB. As a result, the American League, the league using the DH rule, has consistently produced higher batting averages since 1973 than the National League. By expanding the DH rule to the National League, the MLB could create and extend more careers for players just like Martinez. Many people against the designated hitter believe having a DH ruins the integrity of the game. They think that teams should need to strategize by having pitchers bunt runners to the next base or force managers to make the tough decision of when to substitute a hitter for the pitcher. People opposed to the DH rule believe it is wrong to change the rules because this game has been played the same way for more than 100 years. This is both a closed minded and ancient way of thinking. Rules are meant to evolve and change over time to adjust to the times. The days of sacrificing at bats to bunt runners over are over. The sacrifice bunt has been virtually destroyed by new statistics and metrics that show how inefficient it is. The game is in need of more offense and expanding the DH rule to both leagues solves that problem and is a necessary evolvement to the sport. Over the past few years, pitching has been dominant and the officials in the MLB offices have looked for new ways to increase offensive production. For the 2017 season, the MLB has attempted to fix this problem by implementing a new type of baseball with a harder exterior and smaller laces which increase the distance and reduce drag (also increasing distance) of batted balls. Although Dances With Wolves is not a historically accurate and true story of the Civil War, it is a historical fiction that is based on many true facts. The film starts off with a very unrealistic beginning. It is set in the Civil War, on a battlefield, and John Dunbar rides a horse openly right past the opposing side without getting shot. This seems to be the only unrealistic part of this film, however. For example, the Sioux Indians not being total savages was true. White people did treat all Indians poorly, and they justified their actions by saying that all Indians are savages. This film shows that in fact, not all Indians were cruel and bloodthirsty, the Pawnee were the only mean Indians depicted. The Sioux are portrayed as mostly peaceful humans with great moral standards. Though REEs has many advantages, owning its relatively high cost, REEs have not been extensively used. There are three approaches that can account for potential differences in sediment geochemistry relating to particle size and mineralogy. One commonly used way of normalization is to use measured bulk concentrations in the total sediment sample to account for differences in sediment geochemistry. The diluting effects of non reactive constitutes (e.g., coarse sediment, quartz and feldspar grains) can be removed. The second way of normalization is to divide the concentration of the potential tracer by the concentration of the conservative element (e.g., Al, Ti and Li). The third method is to incorporate a correction factor into the mixing model (Collins et al. 1998). Moreover, the geochemical tracer method can also be applied to contemporary and historic sedimentary deposits for reconstructing temporal changes in sediment provenance at the catchment scale (Thevenon et al. 2013). 4.3 Radionuclides Atmospheric fallout radionuclides(FRN), such as 7Be, 10Be, 137Cs, 210Pb, 239Pu and 240Pu, effectively tag surface sediments and the concentration declines markedly with depth and are preferentially absorbed to clay minerals and organic matter due to their high specific surface area which renders them chemically ... We have analyzed poems, essays, theatrical plays and even graphic novels to see the origin of their creative success among the masses. After studying these pieces and their formal elements, we can see that most literature falls under classic mythological premises such as ideas of a higher power/collective mind, power/wisdom through dream and the purity/unforeseen knowledge of children. These ideas seem to be something that is only really recognized by poets. The poem Often I Am Permitted To Return To A Meadow by Robert Duncan uses all of these elements. Within this poet s work we see he composes a strong relationship between myth and modern day with classical ideas, a powerful quality that makes a great poet. The idea of a higher power or a collective mind is nothing new to humanity. The idea is as old as humanity itself and is displayed in many modern practices and creations. The classic idea of a higher power is most widely associated with religion. In every religion of any time period there was some belief of a higher power or collective mind. Elle uses her past three years at Harvard to provide evidence that without a passion for law, her goal would still remain unattainable. In summary, Elle rejoices with her fellow peers by presenting the final words of their graduation. She surrounds her speech on the topic of passion, conveying the significance of disregarding other people s opinions, and the importance of having faith in not only other people, but also yourself when establishing and completing goals. Ending her speech with a cheerful, We did it! demonstrates the confirmation that regardless of what other s believe, anything is achievable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. My Name Andreana Research Paper I am as complex as the next person. Everything, even my name, Andreana, holds a meaning. Sure, people know some things about me, although there are none that know me truly. I have struggled and thrived, gained hobbies and lost interest. Never has my life been at a standstill. Andreana. The name given to me at birth, the one to stay with me until my death. My father, Andre, gave me this name to somehow incorporate himself into me. He pretty much combined his name and Ana, resulting with what is now my name. Not everyone is able to pronounce it correctly; never had I heard someone say it correctly on the first try without my aid. My grandpa in particular thought it was too complex, settling on calling me Ana instead. In addition, my name also means strong and manly, of which I can mostly agree with. I was never one for feminine things. All in all, I am satisfied with my name. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Action Potential Analysis In our brain we have neurons that communicate every second of the day with one other through their dendrite and axons. Most of the time incoming signals are received in the dendrites and outgoing signals travel down the axon to the nerve terminal. For the neuron to receive the rapid communication due to the long axon, the neuron sends electrical signals, from the cell s body to the nerve terminal. This process is known as nerve impulses, or action potential. Brain neurons can transmit signals using a flow of sodium(Na+) and potassium (K+) ions, that produces an electrical spike called an action potential (AP) (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). Action potential is essentially a slight reversal of electric polarity across the membrane. When an action potential takes place, the sodium potassium pump resets the way sodium and potassium ions were back to their original positions. The sodium potassium does this to the neuron so when it is then ready to relay another action potential, it will pump when called upon to do so. The Na+/K+ pump has a housekeeping role rather than a direct role in brain signaling (Forrest, 2014, P. 1). For an action potential to be generated the membrane voltage must be strong enough to bring the membrane voltage to a critical value called the threshold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the action potential is near its peak, sodium channels begin to close which then allows the potassium channels to fully open. Potassium ions rush out of the cell and the voltage quickly returns to its original resting state. This corresponds to the falling phase of the action potential. Sodium and potassium at this point have switched places across the membrane and the resting membrane potential is then slowly restored due to diffusion and the sodium potassium pump. Without the process of the sodium potassium pump and the action potential, our nerve cells will not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Pact Of Silence While the setting of the novel, Barcelona, was essentially the center of the deadly Spanish Civil War, when the author Zafón was writing the story, Barcelona (along with the rest of Spain) was engaged in what was known as the pact of silence (Bethune 65). This pact of silence was fragile in every nature, with citizens and government members alike choosing to keep quiet and not to stir the national demons. Following several years of civil war, Spain was placed under the dictatorial rule of Francisco Franco, who remained dictator until his death in 1975 (Bethune 65). It was after Franco s death that the pact of silence was put into practice as a kind of national safeguard, in some ways allowing the citizens of Spain to be able to relax again without having to constantly be reminded of the war s deadly consequences. ... The war was split between the rightists and leftists, with the leftists being the party in charge of the democratic government that was enacted. Eventually, the left completely lost control and engaged in what was called arming the people, which meant giving weapons and de facto power to the revolutionary organizations ( Spanish Civil War ). When the democratic government failed, Francisco Franco, rightist commander in chief of the military insurgents, installed himself as dictator and chief of state. • 40. Vladimir Lenin And The Russian Revolution Vladimir Lenin was the leader of the Russian revolution. Lenin s reason for writing State and Revolution was to explain his view on Karl Marx s reasoning for a state and views on what the proletariat, working class, should do during a revolution. The goal of a revolution such as this, a communist revolution, is to give the power to the working people, which is to say that Lenin, similar to Castro and Nkrumah, wants to be free from imperialism. Another is to Lenin s view on revolution is that it can only be achieved through nationality and unity.(Lenin, State and Revolution, page 22) The overthrow of bourgeois rule can be accomplished only by the proletariat, as the particular class, which, by the economic conditions of its existence, is being prepared for this work and is provided both with the opportunity and the power to perform it. (Lenin 23) He believes that a revolution can only succeed with the use of violence from the proletariat against the party that is in control.(Lenin, 22 23) The replacement of the bourgeois by the proletarian state is impossible without a violent revolution. (Lenin, 22) As a leader Lenin is an advocate of change. He is a communist and believes in giving power to the people, mainly the proletariat.(Lenin 20) Kwame Nkrumah, was the leader of Ghana first as Prime Minister then as President once they gained independence from Great Britain. • 41. Bowling For Columbine Narrative Structure Essay Narrative Structure in Michael Moore s Bowling for Columbine Michael Moore is a documentary film maker known for his controversial opinions and subject matter. This documentary, Bowling for Columbine (2002), is Moore s second major film. It was named in response to the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in which two boys went on a shooting spree, thirteen people were killed and upwards of twenty were wounded. The two boys were reported to have spent the morning before the massacre bowling. Despite its title, Moore s documentary focuses on the broader issues of gun control and gun violence in America rather than just the case of the Columbine boys. As with the majority of his films, Michael Moore casts himself as the main focaliser in Bowling for Columbine although there are other more minor characters (i.e. the boys who were victims of Columbine) who assist through interviews. Repeatedly the audience is asked what America s exponential gun violence can possibly be attributed to, as Moore provides several possible culprits. The viewer follows Moore s personal, often satirical, vendetta to reveal the flaws of the NRA (National Rifle Association), and America s gun laws as a whole. But the more important, underlying problem Moore depicts is the state of fear American citizens live. It is a fear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Art can be interpreted in many ways by those who view it, it can take many forms and its purpose is not always clear. The way art is defined is just as broad. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines it as a branch of learning , an occupation requiring knowledge or skill or as the conscious use of skill and creative imagination . The early 1970 s, the period in which both pieces were preformed, saw the United States engaged in a violent conflict in Vietnam with protests and demonstrations sometimes being put down with force. Political unrest was visible especially among young artists. These young artists were at the center of this resistance and used their art to make their views known. The work in the novel has the added nuance of actually taking place on a university campus. Author Kathy O Dell remarks that she knew that the Vietnam War was one of the reasons Burden pushed himself to such physical and phycological limits (O Dell xii) in his performances. In the novel, Caleb and Hobart seem concerned most of all with creating art that is noteworthy and meaningful (Wilson 186). One of the most noteworthily things that can be done with their art is to create something with a political message behind it. In the novel, this message is not explicitly stated, it is more clear in the real life version of the act. In 2005, Burden explained certain aspects of his original 1971 performance. He says all of a sudden U.S. troops were shooting at protesting students... all of a sudden it [the violence] ... took on another dimension . He took the social unrest and unease he saw around him and used his art as a platform to start a conversation around the war in Vietnam and the prevalence of violence in general. These ...
