The Success And Success Of A Small Business Owner
The goal of the majority of corporations, primarily the small businesses, is the continuous
improvements in the manner in which they operate every year. This is a difficult feat many business
owners find to be very difficult and challenging. The life of a small business owner is one filled with
many challenges, both big and small. Many factors will determine the levels of confidence and
success that a small business will experience. The small business optimism index consists of results
compiled by a survey of small business owners, conducted on a monthly basis by the National
Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The surveys components are the result of ten factors that
affect the success and progress of every business owner. These factors include: plans to increase
employment, plans to make capital outlays, plans to increase inventories, expect economy to improve,
expect real sales higher, current inventory, current job openings, expected credit conditions, now a
good time to expand, and earnings trend. (MyPivots, 2010). Those factors assist the NFIB in analyzing
and predicting a small businesses potential vitality, and their influence on the stock market. Although
these factors seem to be comprehensive, many other factors also exist that could go overlooked which
could be included and aide in presenting a much more comprehensive view for the Optimism s report.
Some of those factors will be focused on are consumer confidence, interest rates and inflation.

African Americans Should Be Banned Essay
Although the CITES banned the poaching of Asian and African elephants and international trade in the
mid 1980 s, many organizations have been posting anti ivory trade promotion on their website (Stiles,
309). Websites such as International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Born Free Foundation, Care
for the Wild International, and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) (Stiles, 309). Many
of the southern countries of Africa do not agree with the African elephant ban (Stiles, 309). They ve
been against the ban since around the mid 1980 s (Stiles, 309). People from the southern countries of
Africa have been arguing because they don t believe they should be penalized because other countries
don t know how to handle their wildlife (Stiles, 309). The CITES Conference of Parties voted in favor
of Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also noticed that out of the 149 elephant sample they had, two of those elephants were killed for
the mean while the other 149 were killed for the ivory (Jachmann Billiouw, 235). This making a big
concerned. Out of all those 149 elephants being poached, only two being used for a living is
impressive. The rest were just killed for only two little things, that have a value but yet is not worth
the killing of a mammal.
Poaching has been increasing for many years. The number of poaching cases throughout the decades
have been increasing. In the 1970 s and 1980 s, the ivory demand grew drastically making poaching
for ivory increase throughout these years (Stiles, 309). CITES recommended to use a system called
Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) in which helped monitor the illegal killing of
elephants (Stiles, 312). Also, to try and qualify the number of those elephants killed by poachers
(Scriber). The system has been working well that now monitors between 30 and 40 percent of the
elephant population

African Americans During The Reconstruction Of The South...
One of the most frightening things is to realize the government is not on the same side as you.
Unfortunately, that is what happened with the African Americans during the reconstruction of the
south and the Jews in Hitler s Germany. Those who are supposed to help all of the nation and be fair
and just were not and turned against them. It was hard. The people suffered in many ways. There were
unjust politics, terror groups, rights were taken, and fallacies spread against them. What is worse is
that this kind of treatment happens throughout history and even today too so many groups. It is
important to understand how to recognize this and bring it to an end. Sadly, politics is a very sticky
topic no matter which way it is thrown. Not everyone can be pleased, however, that is not an excuse to
enslave, or dominate an entire race. This is what the South did after the war. Once the emancipation
proclamation was released the southern government worked to find loopholes to continue working the
African Americans community like they did before. The government created the Jim Crow laws in
retaliation to the Civil Rights Act of 1875. (Reconstruction from the African American Perspective,
pp12.) The act was there to make sure that all citizens were equally represented in the eyes of the law.
There is one big problem with their plan to keep dominance, they were outnumbered. (Reconstruction
from the African American Perspective, pp7.) The South eventually had to allow the

How Does Golding Show Conflict Between Ralph, Jack Piggy...
In lord of the flies, Golding presents a strong sense of conflict, between the boys, the boys and nature
and the boy s personal lives. The theme of conflict is an important one within the novel, as it helps to
represent the disagreement and fighting of World War II which was happening during the time that
Lord of the flies was written and that Golding experienced first hand. Golding s main message in Lord
of the flies was how cruel men could be to one another and conflict is an obvious link to this idea.
We begin to see conflict very early in the novel, even before the story begins, as Golding tries to
introduce the key themes at the start of the novel. The boys are actually brought to the island itself by
the conflicts of World War II. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding could be making a point that your background does not necessarily determine how intelligent
you are and that a lower class child can be very intelligent.
We experience more tension between Ralph and Piggy due to Ralph s attitude that he is superior,
through linguistic conflict. Piggy continuously asks Ralph questions, such as what s your name? , you
haven t seen the others have you? and making comments and telling Ralph about himself: My auntie
told me not to run...on account of my asthma and I expect we ll want to know all there names . He is
enthusiastic and keen to talk to Ralph, possibly due to the usual lack of attention he receives back
home. However Ralph tried to be offhand and not too obviously uninterested and replied to Piggy s
comments with just a shake of his head or not even acknowledging him at all. As well as this, when
Piggy asked Ralph his name he waited to be asked his name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance
was not made . This yet again shows how Ralph thinks of himself as superior to Piggy and doesn t feel
he needs to treat or show piggy the same respect and interest that he gave to Ralph. Piggy also partly
creates a gap between himself and Ralph by following Ralph and showing so much interest in him.
Piggy hung steadily at his shoulder and stood by him, breathing hard . This could show that Ralph has
a natural sense of leadership about him which makes Piggy feel as though he should look up to

The Love Song Of J Alfred Prufrock Analysis
T.S. Eliot was born in 1888 and died in 1965. Eliot set new directions in poetry. His criticism provided
new judgements to guide assessments of poetry. In Eliot s critical work on poets and poetry, he
observed that the modern inclination is to put up with some degree of incoherence. So long as the
verse sounds well and presents striking and melodious imagery. In an age like ours lacking common
standards poets need to remind themselves that it is not sufficient to rely upon those gifts, which are
native to them, and which they exercise with ease. That good poetry must exhibit several qualities in
proportion of which one is good sense. (Eliot) Some other famous quotes are Genuine poetry can
communicate before it is understood. (Eliot) and finally Human kind cannot bear much reality. (Eliot)
Eliot s poem The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a dramatic monologue. I think the poem s central
themes include Prufrock s inability to act and his feelings of alienation. I think in the beginning
T.S. Eliot may have chosen to present this epigraph in Italian because he wanted to keep his poem at a
high intellectual level and assumed many of his readers would know Italian. The epigraph should alert
to readers this poems sophistication, and should expect subtle literary devices and scholarly allusions.
The first two lines feelings are of a lovely romantic evening. Then line 3 with the image of a sick
etherized patient, dramatically alters it. The feelings the evening evokes are no longer lovely and
romantic but dark and ominous. The metaphor developed in this stanza is a cat compared to smoke.
Also compared to that of an evening etherized in line 3 they are alike because they both imply slow
motion or paralysis. The effect of juxtaposing the actions of taking of a toast and tea and having time
for visions and revisions is interesting since eating is a mundane activity, while having visions is a far
more elevated one. The intellectual work of visions is trivialized by being placed on the same level as
taking of a toast and tea. I think the character is fastidiously dressed and has thinning hair. Skinny
arms and legs also. Indecisive and disillusioned. He lacks energy to pursue his goals and dreams.

Media and Feminine Beauty
Introduction
Mass Media such as films, advertisements and magazines are the huge influence on the definition of
feminine beauty. From watching movie to passing through the subway station, it is quite often to see
numerous images of female faces and bodies. Women are exposed in the world where most women
display in films and on subway advertising boards are striking poses with little clothes on. Moreover,
every image showed is airbrushed with Photoshop. Women are exposed with images produced by the
media on what is considered to be the ideal face and body. The way media portray feminine beauty
today changes the publics standard on feminine beauty and even how females view themselves. This

images change in seconds. From the perspective of those popular media today, thinness has become a

3.1 Photo retouching and hyper reality
When reading magazine, surfing the net or walking down the street, it is normal to see loads of
beautiful models and actress on cover of Vogue or on billboards all over Hong Kong these days. Most
of them have flawless skin, showing off their long toned legs, flat tummy and body with no cellulite. It
is understandable that they suppose to look good as they pose for magazine or advertise for slimming
centre, but somehow they all seem too perfect to be real. Most photos on display are absolutely
flawless, those girls do not even have pores or a single wrinkle. Even the model herself confused by
the outcome, Doutzen Kroes who works as a model for Victoria s Secret once put it to Stuff magazine,
Sometimes it s a struggle to keep up with my own photos, where the lighting is perfect, the makeup is
done and the images have been retouched. That s not what I see when I look in the mirror! So, it
turned out all is not as it seems, every image is not technically real as it has been retouched.

We are surrounded by organizations and we participate in them as members, employees, customers,
and clients. Most of our life is spent in organization, and they supply the goods and services on which
we depend to live. Organizations on the other hand depend on people, and without people, they would
disappear. Factors Contributing to the Growing Importance of HRM a. Accommodation to workers
needs Workers are demanding that organizations accommodate their personal needs by instituting such
programs as flexible work schedules, parental leave, child care and elder care assistance, and job
sharing. The human resource department plays a central role in establishing and implementing policies
designed to reduce the friction between organizational demands and family responsibilities. b.
Increased complexity of the Manager s job Management has become an increasingly complex and
demanding job for many reasons, including foreign competition, new technology, expanding scientific
information, and rapid change. Therefore, organizations frequently ask human resource managers for
assistance in making strategic business decisions and in matching the distinctive competencies of the
firm s human resources to the mission of the organization. Executives need assistance from the human
resource department in matters of recruitment, performance evaluation, compensation, and discipline.

The Lion King And Hamlet Comparison Essay
The circumstances from the film The Lion King are similar to that of Shakespeare s play entitled
Hamlet. Creators of Walt Disney s The Lion King were inspired by the theme of conflict between
Claudius and his nephew Hamlet. Simba and his uncle Scar represent a famous struggle for power.
The connections between The Lion King and Hamlet displayed a recurring and timeless event
throughout the centuries. The influences of claudias brother s power, money, and life make Claudias
angry. He is just like a villain trying to get what he wants, but cant obtain the throne. Claudias kills
Hamlet s father, king Hamlet because of jealousy. He doesn t have the right morals as other characters

Laertes doesn t know why Hamlet was not charged with any crimes because of this. Although Hamlet
wanted to kill Claudias to get revenge for his father s death, king Hamlet. Laerters and Claudias work
together on a plot to kill Hamlet. Claudias tells Polonius to spy on Hamlet. During this affair Hamlet
acts rough with his mother Ophelia. She then cries out for help and so does Polonius. Hamlet mistakes
Poliniuses voice Claudiases and kills him. Essentially, what Claudias is doing is putting people like
Polonius in bad positions so that his son Laertes gets mad and wants to kill Hamlet. Since Polonius
was Laertes father he now wants revenge from Hamlet. Showing love to Laertes, Claudias arranges a
fencing match between the two. The goal of this fight is to make it seem that Hamlets death was an
accident. This shows Claudiases struggle for power because this will give Claudias the power he
wants in the throne. This quote states, In the play, Hamlet is introduced as a troubled man in deep
depression. He was mourning the death of his beloved father and his mother s marriage to his uncle. In
Act 1 Scene 2 Claudius gives Hamlet a speech to try and get him to stop bringing up his father,
probably fearing that the more the late King was talked about, or remembered, the more likely people
were to look into his death. (Bevington,

Essay about Evidence for Evolution
Evolution and Diversity
Evolution and Diversity The foundation for the theory of evolution was laid by Charles Darwin (Rose,
n.d.). He developed hypotheses about natural selection which helped scientists develop the theory.
Evolution is a theory and not a hypothesis because evolution has been proven by vast amounts of
scientific data, research, and testing. The definition of a hypothesis is an educated explanation that
needs to be researched and tested but has not yet been proven (Earman, 1984). There has been no
scientific evidence to disprove the theory of evolution. The fossil record is evidence of evolution.
Fossils are often fingerprints of evolution. They help scientists track how species evolved ... Show

Many die before they are born or hatched depending on species, while many others don t survive
infancy and ultimately into their reproductive years. A portion of those that reach reproductive age
will never reproduce due to sterility or other factors. This is a part of the natural selection process. It is
often referred to as the, survival of the fittest (Frederic, 2011). It is hard to truly estimate what fraction
of offspring will survive to reproduction. There are always obstacles to survival for an organism.
Climate, food, habitat, and illness are just a few factors which affect natural selection. Ultimately we
know that some traits can increase survival rates for individuals such as their color. We know from
Darwin s research that a certain beak length was favorable in finches but that was also dependent on
yearly weather (Petren, 2005). Offspring that possess favorable traits are more capable of surviving
into adulthood and thus reproducing. We know from genetics that there is an increased likelihood that
their offspring would also possess that desirable trait. The population of individuals possessing the
trait would increase as more individuals possessing the trait survived to reproductive years, and fewer
without the trait did not. Natural selection can help prevent a species from going extinct if they were
to face adverse conditions that

Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy
Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at Policy
issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts his book by
looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his readers that
problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken over by
researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the government.
When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the decision agenda.
In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to
know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He
explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern whereas
alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction between the
government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects that people
involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific issues. These issues
are made to discuss and take action on.
Kingdon begins by examining the importance of various actors within the government. The actors in
the administration include the President, Executive Office Staff, and Political Appointees. The
President is the actor who sets agendas through veto power and hiring and firing

My Purpose Of The World Is Always Changing And So Are People
My Purpose
The world is always changing and so are people. People today never see how they evolve physically,
spiritually and educationally. The never question their purpose of living or do they? For many years I
have been puzzled to what my purpose in life is. People need to know what their purpose in life is to
continue living. Growing up in the south during my time was not so bad, but listening to my parents
and grandparents I believe it was pretty rough. This is where my educational phase of life begins to
form my purpose. My parents named me Melody and of course my name means a sequence of notes
that are put together to form a beautiful sound. My grandparents firmly believed that music can be a
positive change for people. In history James Brown created a song called I am black and I am proud.
Naturally the song convinced some people to be proud of their race. I thought as a teenager I could
sing a song and even be a star one day. I perform in front of friends and family until my first talent
show gave me a reality check. I did ok but I was not good enough to win, so I left that talent alone. I
only song in church.
This is where my spiritual phase continued to direct my destination of knowing my purpose. I was
raised in the A.M.E foundation and still to this day I go to the same church. My grandmother and
mother both were on the choir. I joined the choir after I turned sixteen. I was also raised to have a
strong relationship with the lord and I do. Every person may

Three Major Eras
From the 13th century to the 18th century the art world has three major eras, Renaissance, Baroque,
and Rococo. Each era has its own characteristics, the development of scientific knowledge has a big
influence on them. When a scientific expression method was taken for the first time, it became a trend
and the same method and expression method were adopted for many art objects. That trend also
became a characteristic of that era. By using scientific knowledge development and analysis, art
objects became more realistic.
In the Renaissance era, the line perspective has been used for paintings since around the 15th century.
The perspective technique developed from architectural industry. Not only was the composition seen
by the eyes, but also the scientific theoretical perspective projection method used for the space
composition of paintings. Holy Trinity drawn by Masaccio of the Renaissance era incorporates
scientific perspectives into the vault part. Another example would be a Mona Lisa. The famous Mona
Lisa drawn by Leonardo da Vinci also uses a scientific way of expression as well. Leonardo da Vinci

Chiaroscuro is also one of features of this era. As an example of Chiaroscuro there is The Nativity
drawn by Geertgen tot Sint Jans. Overall is dark, light is emphasized, light source is also highlighted
with shadows. Which seems really strongly highlighted due to majority of areas are dark. Another
characteristic of the Baroque era is the composition of dynamic movement. The Seven Works of
Mercy painted by Caravaggio is a good example. Besides the light and dark with the light source, I
feel the movement as a whole. Clothing, hair, flames etc. have a feeling of dynamism. I think that this
dynamic movement is also a big characteristic of the Baroque

The Discovery Of A New Science
The Discovery of a New Science
A Brief History
Physiology has piqued human curiosity for thousands of years. In the early centuries, examination and
dissection of the human body was a taboo practice and consequently became mired due to ethical or
religious concerns. Scientist had no choice but to undertake inconceivable acts, such as grave robbery
in the name of learning and educating. They carried out dissections in secrecy. Human physical and
mental health practices have greatly benefitted because of the discoveries made by these scientists
acts, once considered immoral.
The history of physiological psychology spans throughout centuries. Its origins are traceable back to
times before Christ. Several instances set the framework, which facilitated the development and
growth of physiology as one of the numerous subdivisions of psychology. There are three important
periods and several people that established this field. Contributors include Avicenna (980 1037B.C.),
Rene Descartes during the renaissance and several key contributors during the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries. The breakthroughs in these periods developed a new science and led the way to
the creation of other related subdivisions of psychology. Physiological psychology is one among
several subdivisions of biological psychology. This branch of psychology is concerned with the
response of normal and pathological processes of the central nervous system (CNS). Physiological

Sound And Music By Wilfred Owen
In the scientific world, sound has been used for many purposes. One of them is to find the depth of the
sea using sound waves. Similarly, in the world of literature, sound or music is used to convey the
deeper meaning of the writing. It takes the reader to a different level of understanding, which brings
out the reality behind the words. Sound plays an important role in one s life, and so it does in
literature. Without sound or music, the literature cannot be properly expressed because it is lacking
one of the five senses, that is, the sense of hearing. The poets used sound to enhance their poem and
thus giving it a new meaning. In the early twentieth century, people who were in the war would
describe their experiences during the war through poems and literature. Through the different styles of
literature, veterans of war would communicate their thoughts and ideas to the world. Wilfred Owen, a
famous World War One poet, wrote poems about people who would send young men to war. His
Anthem for Doomed Youth has an incredible way of describing the sound. He describes objects in
such a realistic way that the reader feels transported into the battlefield in the midst of war. With the
use of illustrative words, the reader gets connected to the poem. The repetition in Only the monstrous
anger of the guns. Only the stuttering rifles rapid rattle (1 2) describes the horrifying way in which the
soldiers were cremated in the great war. In addition to this, the alliteration in

The Effects Of Social Stories On The Classroom For...
Elementary students who lack vocabulary to successfully express themselves may use aggression to
obtain their wants and needs. A social story can be defined as a story written to allow a child to
emphasize a social skill such as how to ask for a turn, usually after a troublesome behavior occurs
such as displaying aggression. Social stories can be used successfully as an intervention in the
classroom for children ages 4 5 for teaching and modeling appropriate social behaviors. Using social
stories alone may not be as successful as the use of social stories combined with contingencies such
as: Verbal prompting and the use of a response cost token economy where tokens can be used to
obtain rewards. Current research studies which conclude social studies are successful in changing
behavior are being challenged by additional research which concludes prior success may be due to
confounding variables, questionable research design and implementation. The purpose of this study
was to investigate whether social stories are used more successfully alone or when paired with
contingencies such as a response cost token economy or verbal prompting.

An Alternative Therapy For Cerebral Palsy
We decided to research suit therapy in the context of cerebral palsy. Suit therapy is a system of rubber
bands, hooks, and rings that connect a vest, shorts, kneepads, and specially connected shoes
(McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). There is bungee like cords that continue to tighten and adjust
in order to mimic normal flexor and extensor patterns of major muscle groups in an attempt to correct
abnormal alignment (McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). Wearing the suit along with intensive
physical therapy, and active motor participation by the patient for a certain amount of time and
frequency is meant to retrain normal muscle movement and improve sensory and proprioceptive
information in the brain (McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). Suit therapy has been emerging as
an alternative therapy for cerebral palsy. We are researching whether or not suit therapy treats both
implications cerebral palsy has on the body, the brain and muscles. While suit therapy seems like a
great idea in theory, we are looking for proof that it has worked on patients that have gone through
clinical trials or experiments with it and that it will be an accessible therapy able to reach the
population. There are many studies done where subjects have received suit therapy either by itself,
with other intensive physical therapy, and comparing results of suit therapy to results of other types of
therapy that are established as being used for cerebral palsy. There are many articles about cerebral

Portugal is one of the least tourist attracted locations in Europe, many people do vacation there but it
isn t as popular as most of the countries in Europe. This is so surprising due to the incredible charm
they have surrounding their country. In Portugal there are many rules and regulations to follow in your
everyday life. Your style and the way you present yourself in public is a big thing in Portugal, you will
usually see men wearing suit jackets, dress shirts and sometimes t shirts. Women wear dresses,
blouses, skirts and sometimes wear t shirts to, according to what the weather is like. Rain coats are
very highly recommended in Portugal, considering it has one of the highest rainfalls in all of Europe.
Considering it is located in Southwestern Europe and is the most western country mainland of Europe
I can see why. Portugal is mainly considered a warm climate, Mediterranean climate with a distinct
wet season in winter. During winter, Portugal undergoes a similar temperature pattern to the Spanish
coastal towns, otherwise know as the having an average temperature each day of about 16°C (61°F).

The movie seems to pay heavy homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest in using a character like
Lisa, as she seems at first glance like the young female version of Randall McMurphy. Farther in,
however, we discover that Girl, Interrupted is more aptly described as being completely the opposite...
Lisa really is probably more messed up than anyone else in the ward. Jolie has gotten plenty of
acclaim for her performance here, but I was never really taken in. It seems she s playing nearly the
same sexy vixen she s played in a few other films already; just this time, she s in a t shirt, and
occasionally gets tied to a bed. It d be interesting to see Jolie really stretch beyond her type; maybe in
a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun.
Overall, Girl, Interrupted feels like a movie that could ve been rawer, more intense, and more
confrontational... ie, a lot less Hollywood. I found myself wondering what this adaptation of Kaysen s
book would ve been like if it had been done on a shoestring budget with unknown young actresses and
a fledgling director. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the short film by Billy Bob Thornton that led to
the film Sling Blade came to mind. I m also noticing that that s the 2nd time I referenced another film
that is primarly about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film about mentally ill young

Army Nurses In World War 2 Essay
In 1943, Congresswoman Frances Payne Bolton said Nurses are grand people, human creatures who
will go through pretty much anything to ease pain , and it accurately describes women of the Army
Nurse Corps in World War II. They were exceptional people who embodied compassion, dedication,
and professionalism to their fellow comrades in the war. Their heart and soul was dedicated to the
wounded military men; when they were wounded, the nurses were wounded. However, even through
the emotional and physical hardships, these women overcame the obstacles and successfully did their
job. Uncle Sam had more than just nephews; he acquired many nieces during this War known as Army
nurses. These girls strived to take the best possible care of husbands, sons, and the sweethearts in
order for them to fight another day and come home to the ones they love. Their stories have been

Theme Of Death In Edgar Allan Poe Death
Death in Edgar Allan Poe s short stories
Death is one of the well known themes of Edgar Allan Poe s art, in which the author captures the
physical signs, decomposition, the sensation of feeling buried alive, the reanimation of the death or the
mourning. Most of the works of Edgar Allan Poe have a dark atmosphere, full of mystery. These
works illustrate the dramatic events, explores the dark side of human relationships and offer visions of
the sublime. The works explore the tragedy that brings one to the edge of madness where nothing
seems real, the place where the soul disintegrates, leaving only the essence of a life unfulfilled bitter.
Poe was a master of the Gothic horror tale, although many might not as readily be aware that he did ...

Essay on Canadian History
In Canadian history it is quite evident we are influenced heavily by the much stronger nations around
us. Therefore our own content in Canada is sometimes overshadowed by other cultures, specifically
with regards to the United States who have a big influence on our cultural industries. Pierre Trudeau
expressed the feeling Canadians have with this co existence, Living next to you is in some ways like
sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly or temperate the beast, one is affected by every
twitch and grunt. Some may argue that Canada should not continue to develop regulations to protect
its cultural industries. However, I will argue that Canada should continue to develop some regulations

Continentalism is a major contributing factor because it can be very threatening for the less powerful
country. Continentalism refers to the presence of a global power (e.g., United States) at one s border
must be considered a fact of special importance (Hiller 61). This is to say that the more powerful
country has influence over the less powerful country. This concept is relevant to my argument about
protecting Canada s cultural industries because there has been an increasing level in American and
foreign cultural penetration in Canada. Sharing a large border and more importantly a common
language with the United States means Canada is in a very difficult position in regard to American
culture, with direct attempts at the Canadian market or the general diffusion of American culture in the
globalized media arena. Thus the people of Canada are influenced heavily by American culture and
are surrounded more by their culture. The Canadian government should regulate cultural industries so
we do not lose interest in our own content. Most of our culture in Canada is from foreign sources:
More than 80% of English language magazines available in Canada are imported. 88% of new record
releases are foreign content. Foreign films take about 95% of the screen time in our movie theatres.
Foreign content makes up 61%

Edgar Allan Poe Quotes About Death
Mors ultima linea rerum est ( Latin Quotes about Death ): this quote from Horace perfectly sums up
the theme of the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe suffered much loss throughout his life first with the
loss of his mother, then his adopted mother, his first love, and finally his wife thus explaining why Poe
commonly uses death as a theme in his works. Poe also commonly writes about women and youth,
with the presence of death bringing a depressing and ominous undertone. Death exists in the happiest
and saddest of subjects. The Bells, which judging by the first two sections the reader can assume will
be a celebration of life, turns into a chaotic and then solemn story of death. Annabel Lee, which also
begins in a light and happy mood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Annabel Lee, The Raven tells of a lost love and the narrator s inability, or unwillingness, to
shed his romantic melancholia (Magistrale 40). The narrator of The Raven holds on to his grief and
sees death as a barrier currently separating [him] from the lost Lenore (Magistrale 46). The reader then
begins to also see death as barrier and can feel the same sadness that the narrator himself is feeling.
The bird brings about mixed feelings within the narrator. At first, the bird amuses the narrator , but
quickly frustrates him when the bird s only responds nevermore : the narrator wonders if he will
reencounter [Lenore] in the afterlife, and finally if the narrator himself will ever find peace in her
absence. To each of these questions the bird s consistent reply infuriates him at the same time as it
deepens his sense of loss (Magistrale 39 40). This questioning of life after death can make a reader
feel quite crestfallen as it can make him or her wonder whether or not he or she will see a loved one
again. The raven has always been a bad omen...At the conclusion of this poem, we are to believe that
the raven has become a permanent resident of the poet s chamber and soul (Magistrale 40 1): the raven

The ten principles aim to establish a balanced framework for legal immigration within Common
Immigration Policy, which is focused on better organization of legal immigration. It also considers
special interest in integration and dealing with irregular immigration, through intensive partnerships
with non EU countries based on solidarity and shared responsibility. While focusing on legal
immigration, EU measures particularly cover certain categories of immigrants like highly qualified
workers (subject of EU Blue Card Directive), students and researchers, intra corporate transferees,
long term residents, seasonal workers and family reunification.

Difference Between Racial Inequality And Justice

Racial Inequality and Justice
Justice is a term that should not only prefer to different portions of distribution, but also to the
institutional conditions to develop individual capabilities, as well as cooperative communication.
Under this conception of justice, many people in the U.S. consider disciplinary justice as an
appropriate approach to sustain social order. However, it seems like there are more chances that the
minorities are targets of the inequality in justice system, especially in socio economic and political
problems.
Even if people of color were fully distributed in the capitalist hierarchy like white people, racism is
still a big problem of the inequality system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the National Center for Access to Justice (2015), a network of pro bono legal service
providers representing the poor has arisen to address the need of justice gap, but more than half of
those who seek help are turned away, as a result of unavailable adequate public funds and private
donations. By reducing the pro bono law firms, legislators indirectly thrust the poor into lack access of
finding qualified attorneys to represent themselves in bureaucratic proceedings. Rhode (2005)
suggests that in order to maintain the fairness of American justice, we need to press reforms in
political institutions, which has deep ideological and structural roots (p. 126). Those reforms include,
but not limited to, the distribution of legal self help materials, the procedures of resolving disputes
without lawyers or court hearings, the expansion of pro bono services, and the adequate funding of
legal aid agencies (Rhode, 2005, p. 126 134). Even though our laws can policies can change over
time, I believe Rhode s suggestions on reforms may have some involved complications due to the lack
of political actions, civil disobedience, and direct actions.
The United States is a dreadfully unequal society in terms of the distributions of material wealth,
especially the outstanding benefits and privileges that accumulate to wealth. This inequality is
enormous, regardless of race. However, the minorities are still struggling with the overall system of
socio economic inequality in which multiple scholars have to study, analyze, and suggest different

The United States And The Soviet Union Essay
Toronto, Canada Since the end of World War Two, the United States and the Soviet Union have
experienced a number of political clashes. From the Marshall Plan to the Korean war, to testing
nuclear weapons, and to the use of missiles, the United States and the Soviet Union have definitely
established a divide between the two empires. The growing dependence of the United States in Europe
and Great Britain has increased imperialist speculation from the USSR. However, the United States
justifies their presence though the policy of Containment, in its attempt to defend democracy. Also
since post World War Two, there has been a massive increase of arms in both the Soviet Union and the
United States. From the booming economy of the war and the devastating atomic bombs in Hiroshima
and Nagasaki, the United States became a global superpower. The need for efficient nuclear weapons
suddenly became an obsession. In 1952, the USSR managed to develop their own Atomic bomb,
which threatened the position of the United States. And from there an arms race began. The use of
nuclear weapons is an extreme that neither empire wishes to reach, however, the public is not certain.
The Red Scare is very prevalent in the United States, especially with allegations of Soviet infiltration
in the government from Senator McCarthy. As a result, a fear of espionage has risen. Politicians and
the general public has internalized the fear of espionage to the extent that propaganda has been

Nabokov Use Of Symbolism In Lolita
The novel Lolita exposes the pedophilia and perversion in the text; however, the child pornography
invoked is very similar to the abrasive ads, commercials, and images viewed in America. It seems
sanctimonious that such a controversial novel because of the pedophilia, does not take into account
objectifying young girls. Integrity is not the concern in Lolita; a novel that represents the exploitation
towards the young girls is. While Humbert is a perverse and gruesome man that has pedophiliac
desires, Lolita s use of language, form, and contextual writing sends a message towards the extortion
of young girls. To be more specific, in the article, Lolita speaks: Sexting, teenage girls and the law

The Animal Of The Zoo
Many zoos around the world have captive breeding programs in which they take animals from the
wild and breed them in captivity and the offspring of these species become the entertainment of the
public. Seeing the new panda bear cub exhibit can bring major business to the zoos, but when the new
set of cubs arrive what is to be done with the old cubs? When there is no profitable use or need for an
animal in the zoo it is considered a surplus. Surplus animals, if they re lucky, will be transferred to
another program that need more of that particular species. Most of the time, however, the zoo will cull
the extra animals. Also, when a zoo feels as though the social structure of an animal family is
crumbling, many zoos will cull any extra babies or euthanize the troublemakers. It is considered
Zoothansia. According to One Green Planet, U.S. zoos favor the use of contraception to limit the
number of unwanted pregnancies amongst animals, however in Europe, killing surplus animals is
standard practice . Recently, there was a very public culling of a giraffe names Marius in the
Copenhagen Zoo. The zoo has determined that Marius s traits were too common in the breeding pool
he was in so he was considered useless. Marius, the 18 month old giraffe, was culled in front of a
group of students visiting the enclosure. This sent an uproar through the animal rights movements as
well as the general public simply because the giraffe could have been transferred to another zoo rather

So, the pros and cons of technology in our generation.
It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that.
The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication.
Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to
contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow us to
stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. In my eyes
Youtube is also a source of communication, because it allows us to look things up, like how to videos,

Virtual bullying is becoming a very big concern for people our age, being the first area to have too
much technology to back up our good times, and bad time. We tend to struggle through emotional
stress a lot more than past generations, so a simple message is able to tare some of us down really
easily.
Video games. Now this one is completely my opinion, and i m not interested in starting an arguement,
but the pros and cons for this one, in my eyes are simply put.
Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a
great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them
back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into a
game, so that no one actually gets harmed.
Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real life
things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank. Games are
great and all but even I m guilty of this one. I d much rather play my Ps4 than get that stack of
homework done, I can always do it later, but then later I ll say the

What Does Running Mean To Me
Running is my sport, but it is so much more than a sport. Over the last few years, running has had a
large influence on my life. I compete in both cross country and track, completed a marathon, ran over
300 miles last summer, and ran 250 miles over the previous one. The amount of time I spend running
may seem excessive to some, but I know that what the sport has taught me about myself and about life
is well worth the miles. Running has become my escape and has taught me how to better deal with the
ups and downs of life. When I am stressed or upset, there is nothing like a run. For just a little while
nothing else matters except for charging up the next hill, dodging the next puddle, or hopping over the
next branch. Runs give me perspective. When my world seems to be testing, studying, stress, and
headaches, a good run centers me. The familiar sounds of my racing heart, my steady breaths, and my
feet hitting the ground relaxes me and reminds me that everything will to turn out alright. This is why

Literary Analysis of Dr. Seuss
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, is perhaps one of the most beloved children s
authors of the twentieth century. Although he is most famous as an author of children s books, Geisel
was also a political cartoonist, advertisement designer, and film director (Kaplan). He used the power
of imagination to produce unforgettable children s books and helped solve the problem of illiteracy
among America s children. By using his experiences in life as a foundation for most of his books,
Theodor Geisel created a unique writing style that incorporated various elements and techniques,
enabling his books to appeal to people of all ages. The animated life of Theodor Geisel is evident in

As a noted perfectionist, he would work hours on his children s books. He once stated, The creative
process boiled down to two things – time and sweat (qtd. in Krull 39). His writing style remained
unchanged throughout his lifetime; the way he wrote in general was a fill in the blank approach and
used whimsical language coupled with artless drawings (Kaplan). In several of his children s books,
Geisel adds more and more tension, building up to the climax only to end in an anticlimactic way. For
example, in The Cat in the Hat, suspense increases as the mess the Cat makes becomes unmanageable.
The illustrations add to this tension as the children s mother is set to arrive. However, just before she
enters the door, the mess is cleaned and sparkling new (Hurst). Although his writing style has
remained unchanged in his years of writing, Dr. Seuss was still able to make reading fun and
enjoyable to children. Theodor Geisel was among the first authors to put illustrations equal with text,
enabling his readers to follow the action and the story simultaneously (Kaplan). True to his eccentric
character and unique perspective, Seuss wanted to draw things as [he] saw them (Kaplan).
Surprisingly, he had strict guidelines on how to write children s books. There was only one illustration
per page and nothing could describe anything pictured. That way, children can work out the story from
the illustrations.

  • 2. The Success And Success Of A Small Business Owner The goal of the majority of corporations, primarily the small businesses, is the continuous improvements in the manner in which they operate every year. This is a difficult feat many business owners find to be very difficult and challenging. The life of a small business owner is one filled with many challenges, both big and small. Many factors will determine the levels of confidence and success that a small business will experience. The small business optimism index consists of results compiled by a survey of small business owners, conducted on a monthly basis by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The surveys components are the result of ten factors that affect the success and progress of every business owner. These factors include: plans to increase employment, plans to make capital outlays, plans to increase inventories, expect economy to improve, expect real sales higher, current inventory, current job openings, expected credit conditions, now a good time to expand, and earnings trend. (MyPivots, 2010). Those factors assist the NFIB in analyzing and predicting a small businesses potential vitality, and their influence on the stock market. Although these factors seem to be comprehensive, many other factors also exist that could go overlooked which could be included and aide in presenting a much more comprehensive view for the Optimism s report. Some of those factors will be focused on are consumer confidence, interest rates and inflation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. African Americans Should Be Banned Essay Although the CITES banned the poaching of Asian and African elephants and international trade in the mid 1980 s, many organizations have been posting anti ivory trade promotion on their website (Stiles, 309). Websites such as International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Born Free Foundation, Care for the Wild International, and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) (Stiles, 309). Many of the southern countries of Africa do not agree with the African elephant ban (Stiles, 309). They ve been against the ban since around the mid 1980 s (Stiles, 309). People from the southern countries of Africa have been arguing because they don t believe they should be penalized because other countries don t know how to handle their wildlife (Stiles, 309). The CITES Conference of Parties voted in favor of Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also noticed that out of the 149 elephant sample they had, two of those elephants were killed for the mean while the other 149 were killed for the ivory (Jachmann Billiouw, 235). This making a big concerned. Out of all those 149 elephants being poached, only two being used for a living is impressive. The rest were just killed for only two little things, that have a value but yet is not worth the killing of a mammal. Poaching has been increasing for many years. The number of poaching cases throughout the decades have been increasing. In the 1970 s and 1980 s, the ivory demand grew drastically making poaching for ivory increase throughout these years (Stiles, 309). CITES recommended to use a system called Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) in which helped monitor the illegal killing of elephants (Stiles, 312). Also, to try and qualify the number of those elephants killed by poachers (Scriber). The system has been working well that now monitors between 30 and 40 percent of the elephant population ... • 4. African Americans During The Reconstruction Of The South... One of the most frightening things is to realize the government is not on the same side as you. Unfortunately, that is what happened with the African Americans during the reconstruction of the south and the Jews in Hitler s Germany. Those who are supposed to help all of the nation and be fair and just were not and turned against them. It was hard. The people suffered in many ways. There were unjust politics, terror groups, rights were taken, and fallacies spread against them. What is worse is that this kind of treatment happens throughout history and even today too so many groups. It is important to understand how to recognize this and bring it to an end. Sadly, politics is a very sticky topic no matter which way it is thrown. Not everyone can be pleased, however, that is not an excuse to enslave, or dominate an entire race. This is what the South did after the war. Once the emancipation proclamation was released the southern government worked to find loopholes to continue working the African Americans community like they did before. The government created the Jim Crow laws in retaliation to the Civil Rights Act of 1875. (Reconstruction from the African American Perspective, pp12.) The act was there to make sure that all citizens were equally represented in the eyes of the law. There is one big problem with their plan to keep dominance, they were outnumbered. • 5. How Does Golding Show Conflict Between Ralph, Jack Piggy... In lord of the flies, Golding presents a strong sense of conflict, between the boys, the boys and nature and the boy s personal lives. The theme of conflict is an important one within the novel, as it helps to represent the disagreement and fighting of World War II which was happening during the time that Lord of the flies was written and that Golding experienced first hand. Golding s main message in Lord of the flies was how cruel men could be to one another and conflict is an obvious link to this idea. We begin to see conflict very early in the novel, even before the story begins, as Golding tries to introduce the key themes at the start of the novel. The boys are actually brought to the island itself by the conflicts of World War II. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Golding could be making a point that your background does not necessarily determine how intelligent you are and that a lower class child can be very intelligent. We experience more tension between Ralph and Piggy due to Ralph s attitude that he is superior, through linguistic conflict. Piggy continuously asks Ralph questions, such as what s your name? , you haven t seen the others have you? and making comments and telling Ralph about himself: My auntie told me not to run...on account of my asthma and I expect we ll want to know all there names . He is enthusiastic and keen to talk to Ralph, possibly due to the usual lack of attention he receives back home. However Ralph tried to be offhand and not too obviously uninterested and replied to Piggy s comments with just a shake of his head or not even acknowledging him at all. As well as this, when Piggy asked Ralph his name he waited to be asked his name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance was not made . This yet again shows how Ralph thinks of himself as superior to Piggy and doesn t feel he needs to treat or show piggy the same respect and interest that he gave to Ralph. Piggy also partly creates a gap between himself and Ralph by following Ralph and showing so much interest in him. Piggy hung steadily at his shoulder and stood by him, breathing hard . • 6. The Love Song Of J Alfred Prufrock Analysis T.S. Eliot was born in 1888 and died in 1965. Eliot set new directions in poetry. His criticism provided new judgements to guide assessments of poetry. In Eliot s critical work on poets and poetry, he observed that the modern inclination is to put up with some degree of incoherence. So long as the verse sounds well and presents striking and melodious imagery. In an age like ours lacking common standards poets need to remind themselves that it is not sufficient to rely upon those gifts, which are native to them, and which they exercise with ease. That good poetry must exhibit several qualities in proportion of which one is good sense. (Eliot) Some other famous quotes are Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. (Eliot) and finally Human kind cannot bear much reality. (Eliot) Eliot s poem The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a dramatic monologue. I think the poem s central themes include Prufrock s inability to act and his feelings of alienation. I think in the beginning T.S. Eliot may have chosen to present this epigraph in Italian because he wanted to keep his poem at a high intellectual level and assumed many of his readers would know Italian. The epigraph should alert to readers this poems sophistication, and should expect subtle literary devices and scholarly allusions. The first two lines feelings are of a lovely romantic evening. Then line 3 with the image of a sick etherized patient, dramatically alters it. The feelings the evening evokes are no longer lovely and romantic but dark and ominous. The metaphor developed in this stanza is a cat compared to smoke. Also compared to that of an evening etherized in line 3 they are alike because they both imply slow motion or paralysis. The effect of juxtaposing the actions of taking of a toast and tea and having time for visions and revisions is interesting since eating is a mundane activity, while having visions is a far more elevated one. The intellectual work of visions is trivialized by being placed on the same level as taking of a toast and tea. I think the character is fastidiously dressed and has thinning hair. Skinny arms and legs also. Indecisive and disillusioned. He lacks energy to pursue his goals and dreams. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He developed hypotheses about natural selection which helped scientists develop the theory. Evolution is a theory and not a hypothesis because evolution has been proven by vast amounts of scientific data, research, and testing. The definition of a hypothesis is an educated explanation that needs to be researched and tested but has not yet been proven (Earman, 1984). A portion of those that reach reproductive age will never reproduce due to sterility or other factors. This is a part of the natural selection process. It is often referred to as the, survival of the fittest (Frederic, 2011). It is hard to truly estimate what fraction of offspring will survive to reproduction. There are always obstacles to survival for an organism. Climate, food, habitat, and illness are just a few factors which affect natural selection. Ultimately we know that some traits can increase survival rates for individuals such as their color. We know from Darwin s research that a certain beak length was favorable in finches but that was also dependent on yearly weather (Petren, 2005). Offspring that possess favorable traits are more capable of surviving into adulthood and thus reproducing. We know from genetics that there is an increased likelihood that their offspring would also possess that desirable trait. The population of individuals possessing the trait would increase as more individuals possessing the trait survived to reproductive years, and fewer without the trait did not. Kingdon starts his book by looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his readers that problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken over by researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the government. When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the decision agenda. In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern whereas alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction between the government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects that people involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific issues. These issues are made to discuss and take action on. Growing up in the south during my time was not so bad, but listening to my parents and grandparents I believe it was pretty rough. This is where my educational phase of life begins to form my purpose. My parents named me Melody and of course my name means a sequence of notes that are put together to form a beautiful sound. My grandparents firmly believed that music can be a positive change for people. In history James Brown created a song called I am black and I am proud. Naturally the song convinced some people to be proud of their race. I thought as a teenager I could sing a song and even be a star one day. I perform in front of friends and family until my first talent show gave me a reality check. I did ok but I was not good enough to win, so I left that talent alone. I only song in church. Each era has its own characteristics, the development of scientific knowledge has a big influence on them. When a scientific expression method was taken for the first time, it became a trend and the same method and expression method were adopted for many art objects. That trend also became a characteristic of that era. By using scientific knowledge development and analysis, art objects became more realistic. In the Renaissance era, the line perspective has been used for paintings since around the 15th century. The perspective technique developed from architectural industry. • 17. Sound And Music By Wilfred Owen In the scientific world, sound has been used for many purposes. One of them is to find the depth of the sea using sound waves. Similarly, in the world of literature, sound or music is used to convey the deeper meaning of the writing. It takes the reader to a different level of understanding, which brings out the reality behind the words. Sound plays an important role in one s life, and so it does in literature. Without sound or music, the literature cannot be properly expressed because it is lacking one of the five senses, that is, the sense of hearing. The poets used sound to enhance their poem and thus giving it a new meaning. In the early twentieth century, people who were in the war would describe their experiences during the war through poems and literature. Through the different styles of literature, veterans of war would communicate their thoughts and ideas to the world. Wilfred Owen, a famous World War One poet, wrote poems about people who would send young men to war. His Anthem for Doomed Youth has an incredible way of describing the sound. He describes objects in such a realistic way that the reader feels transported into the battlefield in the midst of war. With the use of illustrative words, the reader gets connected to the poem. There is bungee like cords that continue to tighten and adjust in order to mimic normal flexor and extensor patterns of major muscle groups in an attempt to correct abnormal alignment (McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). • 27. Difference Between Racial Inequality And Justice Tram N Tran JUS 305 September 3, 2015 Instructor M. Clark Sugata Racial Inequality and Justice Justice is a term that should not only prefer to different portions of distribution, but also to the institutional conditions to develop individual capabilities, as well as cooperative communication. Under this conception of justice, many people in the U.S. consider disciplinary justice as an appropriate approach to sustain social order. However, it seems like there are more chances that the minorities are targets of the inequality in justice system, especially in socio economic and political problems. Even if people of color were fully distributed in the capitalist hierarchy like white people, racism is still a big problem of the inequality system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the National Center for Access to Justice (2015), a network of pro bono legal service providers representing the poor has arisen to address the need of justice gap, but more than half of those who seek help are turned away, as a result of unavailable adequate public funds and private donations. By reducing the pro bono law firms, legislators indirectly thrust the poor into lack access of finding qualified attorneys to represent themselves in bureaucratic proceedings. Rhode (2005) suggests that in order to maintain the fairness of American justice, we need to press reforms in political institutions, which has deep ideological and structural roots (p. 126). Those reforms include, but not limited to, the distribution of legal self help materials, the procedures of resolving disputes without lawyers or court hearings, the expansion of pro bono services, and the adequate funding of legal aid agencies (Rhode, 2005, p. 126 134). Even though our laws can policies can change over time, I believe Rhode s suggestions on reforms may have some involved complications due to the lack of political actions, civil disobedience, and direct actions. The United States is a dreadfully unequal society in terms of the distributions of material wealth, especially the outstanding benefits and privileges that accumulate to wealth. This inequality is enormous, regardless of race. However, the minorities are still struggling with the overall system of socio economic inequality in which multiple scholars have to study, analyze, and suggest different solutions for this ... • 28. The United States And The Soviet Union Essay Toronto, Canada Since the end of World War Two, the United States and the Soviet Union have experienced a number of political clashes. From the Marshall Plan to the Korean war, to testing nuclear weapons, and to the use of missiles, the United States and the Soviet Union have definitely established a divide between the two empires. The growing dependence of the United States in Europe and Great Britain has increased imperialist speculation from the USSR. However, the United States justifies their presence though the policy of Containment, in its attempt to defend democracy. Also since post World War Two, there has been a massive increase of arms in both the Soviet Union and the United States. From the booming economy of the war and the devastating atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United States became a global superpower. The need for efficient nuclear weapons suddenly became an obsession. In 1952, the USSR managed to develop their own Atomic bomb, which threatened the position of the United States. And from there an arms race began. The use of nuclear weapons is an extreme that neither empire wishes to reach, however, the public is not certain. The Red Scare is very prevalent in the United States, especially with allegations of Soviet infiltration in the government from Senator McCarthy. As a result, a fear of espionage has risen. Nabokov Use Of Symbolism In Lolita The novel Lolita exposes the pedophilia and perversion in the text; however, the child pornography invoked is very similar to the abrasive ads, commercials, and images viewed in America. Integrity is not the concern in Lolita; a novel that represents the exploitation towards the young girls is. While Humbert is a perverse and gruesome man that has pedophiliac desires, Lolita s use of language, form, and contextual writing sends a message towards the extortion of young girls. The Animal Of The Zoo Many zoos around the world have captive breeding programs in which they take animals from the wild and breed them in captivity and the offspring of these species become the entertainment of the public. Seeing the new panda bear cub exhibit can bring major business to the zoos, but when the new set of cubs arrive what is to be done with the old cubs? When there is no profitable use or need for an animal in the zoo it is considered a surplus. Surplus animals, if they re lucky, will be transferred to another program that need more of that particular species. Most of the time, however, the zoo will cull the extra animals. Also, when a zoo feels as though the social structure of an animal family is crumbling, many zoos will cull any extra babies or euthanize the troublemakers. It is considered Zoothansia. According to One Green Planet, U.S. zoos favor the use of contraception to limit the number of unwanted pregnancies amongst animals, however in Europe, killing surplus animals is standard practice . Recently, there was a very public culling of a giraffe names Marius in the Copenhagen Zoo. The zoo has determined that Marius s traits were too common in the breeding pool he was in so he was considered useless. Marius, the 18 month old giraffe, was culled in front of a group of students visiting the enclosure. It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that. The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication. Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow us to stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into a game, so that no one actually gets harmed. Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real life things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank. I compete in both cross country and track, completed a marathon, ran over 300 miles last summer, and ran 250 miles over the previous one. The amount of time I spend running may seem excessive to some, but I know that what the sport has taught me about myself and about life is well worth the miles. Running has become my escape and has taught me how to better deal with the ups and downs of life. When I am stressed or upset, there is nothing like a run. For just a little while nothing else matters except for charging up the next hill, dodging the next puddle, or hopping over the next branch. Runs give me perspective. When my world seems to be testing, studying, stress, and headaches, a good run centers me. In several of his children s books, Geisel adds more and more tension, building up to the climax only to end in an anticlimactic way. For example, in The Cat in the Hat, suspense increases as the mess the Cat makes becomes unmanageable. The illustrations add to this tension as the children s mother is set to arrive. However, just before she enters the door, the mess is cleaned and sparkling new (Hurst). Although his writing style has remained unchanged in his years of writing, Dr. Seuss was still able to make reading fun and enjoyable to children. Theodor Geisel was among the first authors to put illustrations equal with text, enabling his readers to follow the action and the story simultaneously (Kaplan). True to his eccentric character and unique perspective, Seuss wanted to draw things as [he] saw them (Kaplan). Surprisingly, he had strict guidelines on how to write children s books. There was only one illustration per page and nothing could describe anything pictured. That way, children can work out the story from the illustrations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
