Comparing The Pedestrian And The Flying Machine
Ray Bradbury was a science fiction author who has written many stories throughout the 1940s
late 2000s. And to go along with those books he s made short stories. And two of which have
similar ideas or symbolism of his personal thoughts. And they are The Pedestrian and The Flying
Machine . The Pedestrian is a story about a man who is walking at night. He would be
considered normal for us but in this future society of 2053, he is very different. And so he is
arrested for just walking. The rest is just interpretation or theories. The Flying Machine takes place
many years ago in China. As the emperor is enjoying his life when suddenly, he is interrupted by
his servant who informs him that a man has actually flown. When he is taken to see... Show more

Where a character is conflicted with another character s ideas, rule, or anything else he/she
owns. And in this story, the two conflicting ideas are that of the emperor and the inventor. Who
have two different opinions on the same thing. Starting with the inventor, he sees his new
invention, a flying machine, as a thing of beauty, a great accomplishment, and a marvel of
engineering. However the emperor sees it as a great danger, and is too beautiful for its own
right(hinted by the quote Yes, too beautiful, . He would rather have something more simple and
actually good. As his idea of a miracle is, The air is sweet this morning...the sun has risen and a
new day is upon us. Or the sea is blue. That now is the finest of all miracles. Like for instance,
when the emperor asks the inventor what he has done, he replies with, I have flown in the sky,
Your Excellency. Showing how he believes his feat a great accomplishment. However the emperor
replies with, You have told me nothing at all. As from his point of view, there is nothing great about
this at all. Then later in the story, the emperor has him seized for inventing this thing. And when he
is asked about why he is doing this, the emperor shows him a beautiful invention of his own. Which
just shows a representation a good day. Claiming that to be beautiful. And the inventor quickly
replies with, ... I have found beauty. I have flown the morning

Effects Of Post Colonialism
Postcolonialism
The term postcolonialism has become so diverse and unorganized that it is somehow impossible to
define it clearly or describe what its study may imply.
Postcolonialism often means anti colonialism and is synonymous with post independence. This
word has variable implications and may refer to a collection of studies which are always
changing. Loomba (1998) said that it is a vague condition for people anytime and anywhere all
over the world . The dependence of this theory on the literary, cultural and post structural theories
makes it even vaguer (p. 17).
Post colonialism may then refer in part to the period after colonialism, but the question arise: after
whose colonialism? After the end of which colonial empire? Isn t it unacceptably ... Show more

He claims that this implication covers the fact that this word belongs to the political theory and that
it is also assigned to the period after decolonization (16).
The implications of post in postcolonialism have always been a matter of discussion. Most critics
claim that the word postcolonialism concerns the processes, effects of and reactions to colonialism
from the sixteenth century up to the neo colonialism of the present day.
Loomba (1998) believes that the post in postcolonialism has two implications. The first one is
temporal and indicates that post colonialism is the aftermath of colonialism; the second one is a
substitution for the first one and is a matter of discussion among critics. It somehow indicates that a
country can be both postcolonial which is formally independent and neo colonial which is
culturally and economically dependent (p. 7).
Childs Williams (1997) declared that one meaning of post in post colonialism can be related to
those theories which are not chronological but consider this word conceptually. In this sense it
relates to every text which its concept transcends or goes beyond the colonialism (p.

Baseball And Softball Are The Victim Of It Essay
It is hard to feel injustice if you do not realize you are the victim of it. Logistically, baseball and
softball are different sports although they seem very similar. Confusing them as the same sport
seems innocent enough, until you truly begin to understand the differences and why they exist. It is
nationally understood that baseballis for boys and softball is for girls. The girls sport is baseball,
but softer. It is meant to be easier and less complicated than baseball. The difference between a
baseball and a softball is three inches (Rules of Sport). It is amazing the amount of oppression
caused by those three inches.
If the heroines in Ring s book were treated fairly, surely there would not be such a book. Men,
significantly Spalding, took a widely accepted coed s game and turned it into a game that shows
masculinity and is a man maker (Ring, page 57). Due to his own insecurities, Spalding turned
baseball into a way to prove his worth and his manliness. After all, it sure is hard to prove you
are a man when you are getting beat by women, right? The ironic part about Spalding s claim is
that while baseball is decidedly a men s game, it does not fit the general definition of manly.
There is rarely contact or much movement. Most of the team members are standing in the dugout
for the majority of the game. You can be out of shape and still be a baseball player, Babe Ruth for
example. Regardless, the problem with Spalding s behavior is that it made a difference. It took

Since January 1, 2015 the contract on the Eurasian Economic Union came into force. The contract

organization of the regional economic integration. The union is urged to create conditions for stable

A Comparison of the Heroes Of The Stranger (The Outsider)...
The Absurd Heroes Of The Stranger (The Outsider) and The Myth of Sisyphus
In The Myth of Sisyphus, Sisyphus is an absurd hero because he realizes his situation, does not
appeal, and yet continues the struggle. The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate that The
Stranger is, in narrative style, also showing us an absurd hero, or the beginning of an absurd hero in
Meursault.
In The Myth of Sisyphus Camus establishes the epistemology on which he bases all his works.
Ant it s a very simple epistemology. He says: This heart within me I feel and I judge that I exist.
This world I can touch and likewise judge that it exists. There ends all my knowledge and the rest

Lord Capulet orders Juliet to marry Count Paris. She protests, to no end. She then turns to her
mother who only says that you will do as your father says. Then, in desperation, she turns to her
nurse, who, in her inimitable way, she says well, marry him, two husbands will be better than
one, you will have more fun in bed. At this point in the play Shakespeare has, and the stage
directions are implicit in the lines themselves, left Juliet alone, alone on stage, and she kneels and
she turns now from her earthly father to her Heavenly Father and says: Is there no pity in the
clouds that can see the depth of my grief? And there is no answer, only silence. That is the absurd.
Perhaps the first absurd heroine was Rachel. You recall the slaughter of the innocents where
Herod had all the young male babies of two years and younger put to death to ensure the
liquidation of any possible king. And Rachel cried out, and Matthew tells it in these words: In
Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation and weeping and great mourning. Rachel weeping for
her children and would not be comforted because they are not. And there was no answer to the cry,
only silence. That silence is the absurd.
Is there something of this sense of the absurd to be found in Camus?
Camus wrote The Stranger at the same time as The Myth of Sisyphus, and I

1. What are the benefits of Kimpton s environmental sustainability initiatives? What are its costs?
Kimpton s environmental sustainability initiatives have proven successful and beneficial both in
terms of its environmental and business benefits. Environmental improvement is one of the benefits
of diverting waste. Some of the benefits are exemplified in their rollout phases, including:

2. How would you justify the EarthCare program to Kimpton s board of directors and stockholders?
That is, what is the business case for this program? The top executives considered this program for
many positive reasons. First off, the company s brand and mission rested on the EarthCare program
to maintain the care integrity, and uniqueness that customers had come to associate with its chain
of boutique hotels. Kimpton wants their impact to be felt all over, where this program can
influence other hotels to start an environmental initiative. Also, the EarthCare program is willing to
stay abreast with ongoing standards and norms of the company. It will also being about new
success, new business partnerships, possibly increase employment, and being eco friendly is more
advantageous than not.
3. What challenges face the EarthCare program, and how might Kimpton overcome them? The
case study describes some of the potential operational risks and challenges including: Resistance
by General Managers who may fear losing their autonomy because of a corporate mandated
program. Potential resistance by hotel staff to new products and procedures. Kimpton had a low
turnover rate. Their employees had been there for years and had become accustomed to doing
things in a certain manner. For example, they stated many cleaning staff

Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Essay

Title VII of the 1964 civil rights act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color,

age limit etc. An example of a company using bona fide occupational qualification in the United
States Military. Every day bona fide occupational qualification is used in the United States
military to decline thousands of applicants daily because of their age. The age limit for joining the

The argument against women serving in the elite navy seal units is that women are not able to
meet the physical standards that are required by the Special Forces. Reports in basic training has
shown that women are able to meet and exceed the swimming, running and push ups when they
are placed in advanced divisions. A second argument that is made is that the price tag to send
women to Basic Underwater Demolition School or buds, would cost millions of dollars a year.
The answer to this argument is to change the training pipeline to mirror the men. Before any male
is sent to Buds, they must pass pre buds in basic training. If the trainee doesn t pass pre buds they
are reassigned into another job or discharged from active duty. Women have served in combat
roles for the last 25 years, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now it s time to give them

Black Men And Public Places Essay
Misunderstandings happen all the time, but how one handles those misunderstandings tells a
lot about their character and who they really are as a person. Sometimes misunderstandings are
a result of someone stereotyping because of a race, religion or even simple actions. This issue is
apparent in Black Men and Public Places . A graduate student at University of Chicago as
endured these issues, but has found ways around them. In today s age many people assume the
worst without knowing the person first hand and or their actual intentions. The opening sentence
states My first victim , I feel as though the word victim has a very derogatory sound to it, but the
reader finds out later that it s just a lady whom happens to be walking in front of the large black
man. Being a small somewhat vulnerable female I have done the same thing when running, I see
someone behind me who I don t know, but I think seems a bit odd I run faster to safety without
actually knowing his or her actual intentions. The young yet large black man whom looked a bit

Everyone was locking their doors when he would walk by, and all he was doing was on a walk.
It is truly sad how some people may look a little different or not be perfect and everyone
immediately assumes the worst. It is even sadder that law enforcement does the same thing, and
the person they feel is in the wrong is forced to try and stay calm and defend themselves for
doing nothing. He however found ways to make seem pleasant to avoid others being so afraid of
him. By simply whistling classical music people were less afraid of him. Everyone looks at
others in a different way and sometimes that is not a good way, but perception is everything in

The Nature of Discipleship According to Mark s Gospel...
The Nature of Discipleship According to Mark s Gospel
Discipleship is usually thought of as following Jesus, being a preacher and a teacher. Somebody
who believes in something, or who believes in someone, and leaves everything behind them to
try to make others believe the same is my personal belief of a disciple. In actual fact, the Old
Testament word Talmid is a learner , and more obviously in the New Testament, a Diskipolos is a
follower . The other important area of discipleship is serving others. When a disciple is healing a
person, they are serving them, as he serving Jesus and God. So discipleship can be summed up; to
follow, to learn, to preach, to believe, to serve. All factors are... Show more content on

And yes, the disciples did heal, they did preach and they did cast out evil. The apostles returned
and met with Jesus, and told him all they had done and taught (Mark 6:30) and They went out
and preached that people should turn away from their sins. They drove out many demons, and
rubbed olive oil on many sick people and healed them (Mark 6:12 13). Both of these quotes show
us that the disciples followed instructions and did them well. However, their understanding of
Jesus and his teachings wasn t very good. They understood neither the amazing powers Jesus
possessed nor the wonders he could perform. Even though he would explain everything to them ,
in situations such as The Calming of the Storm and when Jesus walked on water, they just didn t
have the strength to believe or the depth to understand. When the boat was filling with water in
the Calming of the Storm (Mark 4:35 41), the disciples awoke Jesus to say, Teacher, don t you care
that we are about to die? , Jesus said back to his disciples Why are you frightened? Have you still
no faith? The story in Chapter 6, verses forty nine to fifty is similar. It s a ghost! , the disciples

According to the author, the depression resulted from the long term weakness in economy that
depended on sales of cheap exports in the international market (Adas, 1992). He states that World
War I had the impact on Europe s economy, leading to some economic problems in the early 1920s.
Western world and the United States faced overproduction of food, resulting low prices. France
and German feared of inflation. Buying power of key groups decreased. Dependent countries such
as Africa and Latin America suffered badly. However, Adas also points out that it was the
nationalistic selfishness of the countries made the crisis worse, since they just wanted to protect
their own industries instead of contributing to balance the world economy. Therefore, this led to the
debacle starting from the New York stock market crashed in 1929, resulting in the general collapse
of the world economy. Finally, he concludes the countries reactions to the depression brought to our

The Ethics Of The Texas Foster Care System
While looking at the dangers and environment in a child s home, advocates such as employees of
the Department of Family and Protective Services of the State of Texas, have the moral obligation
to take into consideration safety of children shelters and foster homes. Morally, advocates for the
children should also take into consideration the psychological trauma that the child may or may not
experience through being taken away from familyand being placed, possibly multiple times, at new
places away from everything they know.
The Texas foster care system is administered by the state s Department of Family and Protective

As conservator, DFPS undertakes the constitutional and statutory duties of ensuring the child s
safety, permanency, and well being.
During the period of TMC, DFPS is required to make reasonable efforts to reunify children with
their families if safe and appropriate, or to make timely efforts to legally free them for adoption or
find another permanent placement for them. While the child is in the state s TMC, Texas law
requires the appointment of an attorney to represent the child s expressed interests and a guardian
ad litem to protect the child s best interests in the state court proceeding affecting the parent child
relationship.
Under Texas law, TMC lasts for one year, or at most eighteen months. After that time, if the child
has not been reunited with his birth family or provided with some other permanent family, he
enters the state s Permanent Managing Conservatorship ( PMC ). Once the child is in the state s
PMC, that initial legal proceeding is concluded. After entry of that final order, Texas state law
provides no mandate that the child continue to be represented as he was in TMC. Thus, a
substantial number of children in the state s PMC have no independent adult obligated to represent
their expressed or best interests in state court proceedings held twice a year to review DFPS actions.

called Nurse, who ran a school for abandoned children. Moll refuses to go into servitude in spite of
the social and economic structures that hindered her:
I had a thorough Aversion to going to Service, as they call d it, that is to be a Servant, tho I was
so young; and I told my Nurse, as we call d her, that I believ d I could get my living without
going to Service if she pleas d to let me; for she had Taught me to Work with my Needle, and
Spin Worsted, which is the chief Trade of that city... (48) It is clear that Moll does not want to
work as a servant who cooks, cleans and does other menial housework but would instead like to
be a gentlewoman whom according to young Moll is a woman who can earn money and be self
sufficient. When she employs Nurse to keep her by promising to give her all of her money, Moll
is using her wits to demonstrate her accounting skills. She tantalizes Nurse by assuring her that she
can bring in three pence when I spin and 4d. when I work plain work (49). This is the first in many
instances in which Moll roves to know her worth and uses this meticulous calculation of money
throughout the novel to equate it during her various ups and downs. This example also shows how
Moll takes advantage her traits, having a good business mind, to push against the social and
economic structures that work against her.

Sight King Lear
In King Lear Shakespeare s tragedy, there is an overarching theme of sight and actually
knowing, are people and things really as they seem. At the beginning of the paly both Gloucester
and King Lear are blinded by the true nature of those that surround them. Even though that King
Lear can see he is blinded by his fake love from his evil daughters. Goneril and Regan spend their
time abusing their father and scheming to get rid of them while Cordelia gets banished for
loving according to my bond, as his daughter. Not until act 4 when Gloucester is physically blind
does he see more, he says, I have no way, and therefore want no eyes; I stumbled when I saw.
(4.1.20 1). He also unconsciously recognizes that Tom is his son.
After King Lear divided up his kingdom amongst his three daughters, he just wanted a few things

In order to gain that power, all three were asked to express their love for him. They falsely show
how much they love him and his land. Cordelia says nothing which angers Lear, leading to her
disownment. Being the daughter of a king each daughter expects to inherit a great deal of
power, land and wealth. The issue arises that because they have been born on to such a lavish
life they would not appreciate it as much as someone come from nothing or worked for it
themselves. We see Goneril and Regan materialistic sides when they take away their father s
soldiers it shows that they love what Lear has given them, not Lear as a father. Here we see a
shift in balance of power as it was being handed down to his daughters. His daughters slowly strip
him from his entourage making him feel less loved and important something that he demanded in
the beginning. In the end, the only daughter there for him is Cordelia the one he had banished.
She never asked for an apology, she loved her father as he should have loved

Blackie The Mixer
Have you ever heard of a story told by a dog? The Mixer, written by P.G Wodehouse, is a cute and
funny story about a dog that is adopted by a robber. Blackie, the narrator/main character, is a dog
that misinterprets anything and unexpectedly saves his new family from the robber. As a result
of Blackie s distinct character traits, he doesn t understand certain events which makes him a
unreliable narrator. However, these same traits make him a believable dog. Blackie has a very
oblivious personality. For example, on page 77 of the book is says I looked at the man with a
great deal of respect. He was evidently someone important, if they worried so much about his
health. However, when you look at the sentence before that, the policeman says to the man, They
told me to tell you you needed a change of air. See? This proves that the man had most likely had
been causing trouble and needed a change of air or in other words, moving out of their town. This
means Blackie thought the policeman worried about the man s health, not that the man was causing
trouble.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Tribute to the Dog, by George Graham Vest, his main point is that dog s are very loyal to
people and will trust them. For example, on page 94 it says, The one absolutely unselfish friend
that a man could have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never
proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. This means that Blackie, from The Mixer, is obedient
to his owner. Because of Blackie s oblivious personality, he does not know that the man is not a
good person. However, he is loyal and obedient because in Tribute to the Dog, he states that dogs

What Decisions For A Retailer Manager Is A Poor Business...
1.Introduction
In recent times it has been well documented and reported that the way in which retailing is
changing. Alongside the former methods of bricks and mortar stores, modern day retailers must
now ensure that their goods and services are available by means of various streams, including
websites and mobile apps. (Benady, D. 2014) But it is not only retailing which have changed; the
consumer is becoming savvier and increasingly sophisticated. Consumers are expecting more from
retailers and now expect a seamless shopping experience however way in which they may interact
with the retailer. (Benady, D. 2014)

2.Retail Strategy and Concepts
For retail managers, establishing and defining a profound retailing strategy is essential. In terms of
retailers, it is essential to select retail location which in turn can lead on to offer the best potential
revenue performance and consequently further strengthen the organisations overall brand position.
(Ipsos, 2013) Picking a location can be a difficult decision to make for both emerging businesses
and well established organisations. Various potential issues will need to be analysed for example
population size and competitive intensity. (Ipsos, 2013)
Retail strategy may vary depending on an organisations overall aims and objectives, though one
essential aspect when choosing location is to ensure that a location has been thoroughly profiled
and that every aspect has been looked at with some including:
Potential footfall in the area.
Overall quality of the location
Location accessibility
Occupancy rates
(Ipsos, 2013)
For retail managers there are strategic tools which can be utilised when it comes to choosing a
location for a business, one such concept which can be particularly useful and applied is that of
the Retail Mix, incorporating factors including: Place, Product, Price and Promotion. In terms of
this report Place may be seen as the most important aspect of the mix. For a retail manager it can

Neil Macdonald s Article On The Issue With Canadian Politics
Neil MacDonald s article on the issue with Canadian politics is filled with the richest form of
sarcasm that pinpoints exactly how juvenile this topic truly is. In my article that I choose,
MacDonald takes a look at the issue of the nigab and other Muslim related topics and how the
current Canadian politics is strategically creating an invisible barrier between Muslims and
Canadians. I will first start off with a brief summary of the article followed by how Edward Said
and Jasmine Zine discuss what is currently happening with the niqab.
Summary: In MacDonald s article, The barbaric cultural practice of election pronouncements, he
looks at how the current Canadian political election has created this barrier between Muslims and
Canadians. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Said had looked into how the West had put a distinction to isolate the Orient from themselves. This
would have by usually putting them in a viewpoint as having more barbaric and savage values then
the West. This is clearly seen in the article that MacDonald had written. MacDonald finds that the
current Election has created a barrier making a distinction between Muslims and putting them as the
outsiders. In the article MacDonald finds that many times it is not just saying it bluntly rather it is
quick jabs at Muslims. [...] We were reminded by the immigration minister [...] that Canada now has
something called the Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices Act. (MacDonald, 2015) Of
course, many can argue that the immigration minister was not directly attacking Muslims and yet
when one reads the word barbaric, they connate help but think about the barbaric actions that
happen almost everyday in the Middle East. Although Said didn t directly look into gender
orientalism he had made a great point in his article when discussing how the West view woman in
an Oriental society. [...] she never spoke of herself, and she never represented her emotions,
presence or history. He spoke for and represented her. He was foreign, comparatively wealthy, male

5.5 Limitations
Due to the limited amount of studies done on strategic budgetary system as it relates to power
infrastructure development in public sector in Nigeria, the survey used in this study was partially
based on survey instruments adapted and some generated by the researcher. A number of questions
used in the instrument were developed specifically to suite this dissertation. However, researchers
undertaking studies in strategic budgetary system in the future would benefit from survey questions
validated more specifically in the context of power sector infrastructure development. Furthermore,
the answers from respondents also need to be understood in the context of public servants giving
answers that they felt were expected rather than absolutely honest answers for fear of exposing
important personal and government secrets. Lastly, in Nigeria public sector there is dearth of data
for research. As a corollary, collection of data for this study was difficult especially in the past
years during the military regime.

Based on the research conducted in this dissertation, the study hereby makes the following
recommendations in line with the nine hypotheses tested:
First, the amount set aside in the development plans for infrastructure has direct relationship with
the level and quality of projects to be executed. It is recommended that proper power planning

Film Industry Depression
Movies have always been an important part of American s lives. They are a way to escape
everyday life and experience action and adventure of some sort. Throughout time, movies have
developed into what they are today. During a time of depression and economic worries, The
Hollywood Movie Industry flourished and greatly influenced people s lives in the 1930s. The
movies were a captivating escape from the reality of the depression. During a time of economic
hardship, people needed something to hold onto and hope for. For many, movies was this hope.
Petra Press said that The most popular of these escapes by far was the magic of motion pictures

Shirley Temple, a famous child star, had a franchise of coloring books and dolls made after her,

their hair this bright blond color (Press 88). These two actors specifically, along with many
others, influenced the style and way of life for many. Some movies helped to solve issues, such
as I am a Fugitive from the Chain Game. This movie promoted the reform of corrupt courts in
the 1930s (Press 92). Another movie at the time taught the lesson that it is not about the
stereotypical class but the people in it. This movie was The Philadelphia Story (Jensen). Some
other movies were simply popular because of the current culture, and because of how well done
they were. For example, Gone with the Wind is one of the best known movies in American
history and was set in the time of the Civil War (1930s: At a Glance 370). Another extremely
popular movie was the 1939 musical, The Wizard of Oz, because it whisked audiences away into
a magical land filled with far more hope then their own (1930s: At a Glance 370). Other movies
simply had to do with the current issues and with life at the time. These movies were influenced
by the 1930s, rather than influencing the 1930s. An example of a movie like this was The Gold

Running Backs In College Football
Wisconsin s first game of the season will feature two of the premier running backs in all of
college football. Leonard Fournette from LSU is a 2016 Heisman favorite and is coming off a
superb sophomore season. On the others side, Corey Clement from Wisconsin is looking to
rebound from an injury filled 2015 season and reposition himself as a solid Big Ten running back.
While this first primetime game of 2016 will feature two great running backs, there are other
rushers who are worth watching and hard to tackle. Even though college football has moved to a
spread approach and teams are throwing more than ever, some running backs can still significantly
affect the game and change entire seasons.
The Good These running backs are staples in their team s offense and are expected to produce
big numbers each week. If you try to game plan to stop these runners, then you will be exposed in

Matthew was a publican, a tax collector and government worker, who dropped a lavish lifestyle

It would be beneficial for individual athletes to use talent identification and search programs

as the Olympics. By implementing a mode of genetic testing and testing physiological traits, it
would remove the factor of chance and give a more accurate reading of athletes likeliness to

The Effects Of Rape Culture And The Psychological Post...
When discussing genocide, it is simpler to discuss the overall impact of the collective to create an
elaborate visualization of the horrific events incurred by genocide, than to focus on the impact of a
single genocidaire. The victims of genocidal violence are given a respectable amount of attention,
because they are the victims of atrocities and they deserve justice and recognition for their
sufferings. Due to the recent influx on research into the sociological effects of rapeculture and the
psychological post traumatic effects of rape, research on the utilization of rape in genocidehas
become increasingly popular among academics of all disciplines. Unfortunately, little research
has been done on how genocidaires, who were once regular civilians of a state, electively join in
the execution of mass violence through committing rape and murder. Modern sociologists and
psychologists have yet to define a collection of definitive characteristics of the genocide rapist, as
the majority of research is done on individual perpetrators have had contact with the criminal
justice system and are likely incarcerated. While extensive research has been done on the
characteristics of living victims, the genocidaire rapist, however, is unlikely to be individually
targeted and charged with sexual assault, let alone be analyzed by behavioral scientists for
diagnostic research. Assuming that not all people are inherently born with the will to kill and

Ethnic Identity And Cultural Beliefs
Introduction: Around Twelve thousand years ago, human beings learn basic agriculture and animal
domestication. This allowed a human being to create societies which allowed ethnic groups to
emerge. An ethnic group is a group of people that share similar ancestry, physical traits, customs and
cultures with each other. A person s ethnicityis important to their identity since they grew up
learning about their ancestry s past and culture in order to understand social interaction and
behavior. Culture s is subunit to a Person s ethnicity since it is the knowledge, beliefs, and customs
of the ethnic groups history and experience. It influences a individual to speak a certain language,
eat a specific diet, and practice a religion that is important to their region. It can also help explain
why a person wears a specific design of clothing or interacts differently with people of the
opposite sex since culture shapes an individual s social behavior. It is a key block to a person s
identity since it allows individuals to connect to a community that has been practicing and
spreading it since its conception. Many countries today, such the United States, are home to dozens
of ethnic groups and their culture. I have been exposing too many ethnic groups and their cultures

Emily Grierson Hierarchy
William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily depicts the need for a hierarchy by which to
rank and organize individuals by merit of their importance. Class, gender and race each play a
vital role in determining the interactions of Jefferson s residents. Notably, these issues affect how
Emily Grierson, Homer Barron, and Emily s Negro servant Tobe are treated by the townspeople,
as well as their behavior. Together race, gender and class portray and define the characters for who
they are and act to elucidate their positions in society. The hierarchy in Jefferson dictates that class
supersedes gender, which in turn, supersedes race.
At the center of Faulkner s story is Emily Grierson a proper, old fashioned monument to the past. ...

As Emily was considered an aristocrat of sorts in the town, her actions, inappropriate by any other
woman, continued without question. In Jefferson, class superseded the stereotypes against a
gender, and to an extent even law and logic.
With rumors of a romantic relationship between Homer and Emily, the townspeople s first
reaction was to reject the notion as folly. The women of the town speculate that a Grierson
would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer while the town elders believed that
Emily would be unable to forget the noblesse oblige : the obligations of the higher class
(Faulkner 311). In the eyes of the town, it would be improper for a woman of such high class to
intermingle with a man of lower class. This, along with his affiliation with the Yankees, results in
the town turning against Homer, despite his seemingly agreeable personality. Homer and Emily s
relationship created changes to the status quo. In turn these changes resulted in the summoning of
Emily s sister from Alabama; this decision, later regretted by the town, was a last ditch effort to
preserve the conventional order of class within Jefferson. Despite the criticism Emily receives, she
chooses to continue in her pursuit of Homer, demonstrating her continued indifference to the
opinions of those around her, a benefit available to her because of her social class.

I think the titanic should be preserved because it s decayin right now. The titanic should be
preserved because it s rusting away. The people that died on the ship, their family mite want it
preserved. They might want a peice to remember, and that everybody will remember. The titanic
could be in a mueseum and let everybody remember it and what happened in 1912. This was the
biggest ship in 1912, and over a thousand people died. This ship should go down in history. This is
a history telling of the titanicthe people that died family s would want that to happen. If they

College Essay On Peer Pressure
Eyeballing the Gatorade bottle as it became full of smoke, I knew I had caved into peer pressure.
Peer pressure can be a big obstacle for lots of teens. Although peer pressure can sometimes be a
positive, it is often harmful and damaging. That type of negative influence from one s peers can
lead them to try things they usually would have no interest in trying. When I was about to turn
thirteen, I learned just how true my previous statement was. All it took for me to experience peer
pressure for the first time was a couple of grams of marijuana.
When I was younger, I would spend most of my summer nights playing video games with my
friends. Most nights, you would find me with one friend in particular, and that friend was (at the
time) sixteen year old Kevin Gomez. I would walk to Kevin s house since he lived a couple of
minutes away from me. This night however, Kevin and I agreed to meet at his aunt s house due to
her being on vacation.
Sitting on his aunt s beige couches that had been wrapped in plastic, we had begun the night the
exact way we had begun any other night, by playing video games. We were roughly an hour into
our gaming session, when from the corner of my eye I spotted Kevin reaching for something from
inside his right pocket. He pulled out what appeared to be a tiny plastic bag. The moment he
opened the bag I knew exactly what he had brought with him. Instantly the smell of skunk had filled
my nostrils.
You tryna smoke? Kevin said as he set his PlayStation

Mark, unlike Holden was the character in the narrative to betray a fellow character. Mark
allowed or agreed with Sean Parker that Eduardo had to be punished for freezing the account
linked to the company but in the process betrayed the friendship between himself and Eduardo.
Even though Mark may have not been on hundred percent on the decision of dropping Eduardo s
share, he still decided to betray his loyalty of Eduardo by choosing Sean instead, who in the end
also betrays Mark. In this case, it seems that most friendships in The Social Network were never
meant to survive; all were meant to crash and burn. For Holden, he basically expects most people
to betray him, he expects most people to be phoneys and expects all innocence to be lost in most
children. Holden constantly feels betrayed with most of the other characters in the story, which
could definitely be a main cause to his mental problems. Early in the novel, Mr Spencer betrays
him. He was one of the few teachers at his school that Holden could relate with and trust. Spencer
had told Holden of his expulsion, and Holden felt betrayed by his teacher. When Holden returns
home to see Phoebe, his young sister, she is disappointed in him that he had failed to stay in Pency.
He thinks that she should accept and be loyal to him unconditionally, so he feels betrayed. This
shows that Holden really could not depend on anyone because

Benedict Arnold in the Revolutionary War Essay
Battle of Ticonderoga Prior to the war Arnold became a captain in the Governor s Second
Company of Guards. Eager for action, Arnold and his men marched off to Cambridge and asked for
the commission of the Massachusetts committee of safety to capture Fort Ticonderoga. Along the
way Arnold s group met up with Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys. Despite their
differences the groups successfully captured the fort on May 10th by surprising the British
Garrison. As the Green Mountain Boys raided the rum stores Arnold was in an argument about
credit in capture of the fort. Arnold lost the argument and he received very little credit in the report
to Congress. Arnold was about to proceed with his own plans until the Massachusetts Committee...

Business and Market Exposure Maersk Line
Business and market exposure Maersk Line Dependency on global economy and world trade
Being in an international industry, the market for Maersk Line is global and the demand for its
container shipping services is directly correlated with the development in the global economy
and the world trade situation. Globalization of world industries, spurred by deregulation policies
and trade liberalization, as well as an increase of export volume from e.g. China has in recent
years been an important driver of GDP and growth in world trade. Demand and supply Thus the

Combined with the relatively inelastic supply of vessels (it takes 1 3 years to build a vessel)
and the relatively elastic carrier supply (carriers can easily move from one route to another),
overcapacity will spur competition and pressure on price. In the container shipping industry
price is expressed in freight rates. So freight rates are volatile and have due to the overcapacity

Mexican Migrant Workers and Lynch Culture Essay
Mexican Migrant Workers and Lynch Culture
More than a million agricultural workers migrated to the United States in the early twentieth
century. The majority of these persons found work on small family farms in California; the white
owners of these farms welcomed cheap labor. Although most migrantworkers in California today
are of Mexican descent, they originally came from all over the world: East and West Europe,
China, Japan, Korea and Latin America, along with Mexico. The shift to almost exclusively
Mexican migrant workers in the early 1900s was intentional. Growers at this time anticipated racial
conflicts between the immigrating workers and the natives of California. Growers minimized local
opposition to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Texas Rangers were infamous for their brutality. In the name of justice they executed
thousands of Mexican migrant workers without any repercussions. As early as the late 1800s, the
Rangers began their violent attempt at repression. Onofrio Baca, a Mexican migrant worker, was
arrested in 1881 on the suspicion of murder. The Rangers arrested him and promptly had him
lynched, his body left to hang for days in front of the courthouse. [3]
Though the Rangers were the most well known law enforcement agency attacking the Mexican
immigrant, they were not alone. For example, Jesus Romo was being held in custody by officers
in California when he was taken by a group of masked men and hanged. [4] The majority of the
Mexican Americans lynched between 1848 and 1870 were already in custody when they were
taken and hanged. Records indicate 473 out of every 100,000 Mexican migrant workers during
this time period died as victims of a lynching. [5]
Over one hundred years have passed since the beginning of large scale Mexican migrant worker
immigration, yet groups in San Diego County, and other border towns are still fighting to embrace
the lynch culture created by the Texas Rangers and similar organizations. Groups such as The
Arizona Ranchers Alliance and American Patrol are working ardently to ensure that

The Dark Age Of The Dark Ages
What is the first thing you think about when I say dark age? Is it chaos? Disease? Poverty?
Death? Well, you re on the right track. A dark age meant that there was very little culture, was
repeatedly invaded, had no government and a bad economy, and of course, a miserable place to
live. It was between 400 and 1400 AD in Europe, that was supposed to be called a dark age.
While most of that did happen in Europe, it s not entirely barbaric. In fact, around the end of
that time period, many things that were taken from Europe was restored. Art and education
were restored around the 14th century. Food and technology were improved around that time
period as well. Even laws were restored back in order so that society could be stable. So yes, I do
believe that what you call a dark age, wasn t really dark because food access and farmland was
restored with the add on of having clever contraptions to support the labor around the farm work,
the government was strong enough to make certain laws, and innovations were being advanced.
One of the reasons why Europe in the 400 to 1400 wasn t a dark age is how there was access to
enough food, tools, and farmland. One piece of evidence that shows that farmland and food were
available is in a textbook called, World History Before 1600: The Development of Early
Civilization. One excerpt states, From 1000 to 1300, the economy of Europe developed and
prospered. Available farmland tripled, and the food supply increased notably (Doc B). Also,

The Pitfalls of American Interventionism Essay
The United States has been feeling the effects of Middle Eastern terrorism since June 5th, 1968,
when Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian acting alone, shot and killed Senator Robert F. Kennedy in
response to some pro Israeli statements he made (Eland 10). United States support for the newly
formed Israel had garnered a lot of hatred from native Palestinians, and Sirhan s attack marked the
beginning of anti American sentiment in the region. Starting with President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
the United Stateshad been interfering in the Middle East, using Iran as a base for anti Soviet
operations. Over the years, U.S relations with the Middle East soured, leading CIA trained
operatives to form terrorist organizations. President George H. W. Bush... Show more content on

As for economic downturn, the lack of regulation and the failures of banks were both caused by
the Gulf Wars. The United States government was too focused upon military conflict outside of its
borders to pay attention to the loopholes that banks were using to make unwise lending decisions.
The Gulf Wars had a large economic impact on the United States and was the primary cause of the
economic downturn during both Bush administrations. American intervention in the Middle East
drove up gas prices to an all time high, resulting in billions of dollars lost. As Peter Katel said, In
the week that the [First Gulf War] started, the average world oil price was about $27 a
barrel...[later oil prices] were pushed up to prices upwards of $116 a barrel. (5). The money lost
due to this alone ranged in the hundreds of billions of dollars lost. As a result, the American
economy took a staggering blow, and was later felled by the economic cost of the war itself. The
global increase in oil prices caused inflation, leading to a massive increase in cost of living
expenses. But, the American intervention in the Middle East included larger and far more
devastating expenses as well. For the first Gulf War, a war that lasted a little over a hundred days
cost upwards of $260 billion dollars ( Calculating 6). The second Gulf War, or the Iraq War
, was far
more costly, as

Femininity In The Military
Military civilian relationships have been problematic when intermingling of races occurred. For
almost twenty years, America fought in the notorious Vietnam War, supporting South Vietnam. Due
to the length of the war, military civilian relationships were bound to develop. Thus, both the South
Vietnamese and the American government made policies in order to maintain an alliance between
their citizens. Due to encouraged toxic masculinity, the presence of femininity in the military, and
racial differences, policies, such as the V.D. Control policy and the policy listed in the Fact Sheet,
were essential in order to promote healthy relationships between American troops and Vietnamese
women.

Since prostitution was legalized, Vietnamese police became known for harassing the women for
being prostitutes if they shared a taxi with an American male. The police did not approve of the
intermingling of Vietnamese with Americans. This displeasure originated from the newly
established social norm of creating prostitution houses in order to cater to foreign troops.
Prostitution was the relationship highlighted between American troops and the Vietnamese largely
due to the toxic masculinity expressed by the American troops. Based on these factors and the
harassment of police, sustaining a relationship outside of prostitution was difficult because
Vietnamese women were discouraged from spending time with foreigners due to harassment and
embarrassment. Therefore, in order to promote healthy relationships, American officials created a
Fact Sheet with instructions regarding the role of an American male in a situation where his taxi is
stopped because he is with a Vietnamese female. The purpose of the Fact Sheet was to protect the
women from other Vietnamese, specifically the police, who did not approve of their relationship
with American males or who simply wanted to profit from making women feel uncomfortable. This
protection would help

The Problems Of Obedience And Authority

The Problems of Obedience to Authority
People will do about anything to stay out of trouble when it comes to someone with authority that
cannot be argued with. Stanley Milgram did an experiment on the topic of obedience to authority;
he wanted to know how ordinary people could do horrible things if forced to by someone of
authority. Obedience to authority is instinctual for human beings, there has and will always be
someone with a higher authority than ourselves. How can normal, ordinary people that think of
themselves or are thought of as genuinely good people do things that they know is morally wrong
when told to do so by someone of authority? That is the question that Milgram asked himself when
he started his experiments.
The main point of the experiment was to test why people listen and act on what people of
authority tell them to do. Milgram took ordinary people and proved that most of the general
populace is willing to physically hurt another human being if provoked by someone in a position of
authority. This causes a person to question as Encina does, Why were those who challenged
authority in the minority? So entrenched is obedience it may void personal codes of conduct
(Encina).
In the experiment Milgram picked people off of the streets and tested them on how far they would
go to hurt someone when instructed to do so by someone of authority. Respondents were told that
the experiment would

Analysis Of Functions Of Effective Management Essay
Introduction
Normally, management is generally known as that social process which entails the fulfillment of
the given set objectives of a particular organization through effective and economical regulation and
operation of the organization. The system is a dynamic process since it consists of handling of
different activities and elements each time. However, these elements and activities are not like the
operative functions which merely involve finance, purchasing, marketing and many more of similar
type. Moreover, the activities are commonly practiced by every manger regardless of the status or
the level within the chain of command. Besides, effective management always goes in hand with
leadership and includes employees motivation, creatively solving of problems and ensuring timely
completion of the organization s goals and objectives. Therefore, this paper has critically focused on
how the five management practices such as planning, leading, organizing, staffing, and controlling
are implemented in my current workplace.
Analysis of the functions of effective management
Planning, leading, organizing, staffing, and controlling are indeed management concepts and they
equally require detailed implementation analysis for each and every organization or any other
enterprise aimed at achieving certain set goals and objectives. In this paper, the application of
each of these aspects is discussed in details with relevant examples from my own organization as a

Assimilation Of The United States Constitution Essay
America has the United States Constitution as its map of operation. This Constitution s Preamble
states that ...in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, and insure domestic
tranquility...promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our
prosperity... If this statement is true, there would be no need to research whether assimilation or
separatism would be ideal for minorities to enjoy domestic tranquility and/ or liberty. As a
minority, we would not have to think about what we lose or gain if we choose assimilation or
separatism. In order for assimilation to occur a minority group becomes an integrated part of the
majority group; this assimilation results in non distinguishing of one group from another by
cultural characteristics. In order for this process to be complete, it must entail, not only an active
effort by the minority group to shed all distinguishing actions and beliefs, and also complete
unqualified acceptance of that individual by the dominant society. Implementation of this process
will gradually integrate the minority into the system, causing all groups to be culturally similar
with their differences no longer a basis for prejudice from the dominant group. (Dubois, Miley 172)
The rationale for assimilation from the structural sociologist s point of view is that assimilation is
the best way to reduce cultural differences between the dominant group and the majority group.
They also insist that there would

Shannon Hale s The Goose Girl
The Goose Girl by: Shannon Hale
I chose to read The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale for my book report this quarter. This book is
about a crown princess named Anidori Kiladra Talianna Isilee of the kingdom of Kildenree; and
her gift of speaking with animals.
This book starts off with Anidori Kiladra Talianna Isilee s birth. What worried the Queen, her
mother, and many others was the fact that she did not open her eyes for her first few days. The
only thing that saved her was her loving aunt who took charge of the situation and treated her just
as if she had the normal habits of a young child. This Aunt also instilled the nickname Ani for the
young princess. Together the two would often take walks down to the palace pond, where a flock
of swans calls their home.
Over the years Ani learns much from her Aunt. Including the lovefor nature and how we all are
born with a word of a language on our tongues. She goes on to explain that there are three types of
language, There are three kinds, three gifts. Did you know your mother has the first? The gift of
people speaking.... The second is the gift of animal speaking... those people feel more comfortable

for any signs that she was continuing this action. One day Ani s mother, the queen, relayed the
news to Ani that her beloved Aunt died and would not be returning. Who did visit was the Prime
Minister of Bayern. During this visit Ani found time to visit the stalls, in order to make a friend
with a horse, in the way she always wanted to. The new born stallion she gained as a friend named

What Is Lennie s True Friendship
In the book Of Mice and Men the two main characters Lennie and George are just simple men
trying to find work during the American Great Depression, They encounter many challenges on
their adventure, but through it all both main characters remain true friends. This is why I feel
that Lennie and George have true friendship. The first example of George and Lennie s true
friendship is the loyalty and trust that George and Lennie share. George and Lennie live in a
time when there wasn t a great deal of money going around. They catch a break and get a job on
a ranch. When they get there, the owner of the ranch interviews them about their experience and
other work related items. The boss begins to notice Lennie s mental handicap so George explains
that he was kicked in the head by a horse as a child but that he is a hell of a good worker. I feel

dream. This shared intimacy is one of the cornerstones of true friendship(Karbo). This dream is
one of the things that keeps them together. Some may debate that their friendship cannot
possibly be a true friendship. Why would one true friend kill another? True friendship,
remember, entails loyalty and trust and understanding(Karbo). George knows if Lennie goes to

those conditions. Only a true friend would be willing to protect their friend from a life of pain and

U.s. Democracy And Canadian Democracy
In the contemporary world, democracy is one of the most progressive system of government that
states freedom as a core value. Democracy is based on the free expression of people s opinions,
points of view as well as their opposition to the government actions. Citizens have a great control
over the political events taking place in their country because through the elections they can select
the right candidate who will be able to represent their interests. Core values of the democracysuch
as freedom, equality, pursuit of happiness are similar in different countries. However, the
implementation of democracies may vary. USA and Canadaare two big and prosperous countries
that can be a prime example of how democracies may vary despite all the similarities. There are
three major differences between US democracy and Canadian democracy such as consensus or in
other words substantive goals of political actions, checks and balances or how do different branches
of government work, and the last but not least federalism in regards to the division of power
between federal government and territorial entities. The first and the most important difference
between US and Canadian democracy is consensus. The initial word consensus means general
agreement. In terms of politics, consensus means an agreement on the substantive goals of the
country or in other words political program that includes an implementation plan of the alternative
solutions to the country s problems or threats. Democratic

  • 6. Comparing The Pedestrian And The Flying Machine Ray Bradbury was a science fiction author who has written many stories throughout the 1940s late 2000s. And to go along with those books he s made short stories. And two of which have similar ideas or symbolism of his personal thoughts. And they are The Pedestrian and The Flying Machine . The Pedestrian is a story about a man who is walking at night. He would be considered normal for us but in this future society of 2053, he is very different. And so he is arrested for just walking. The rest is just interpretation or theories. The Flying Machine takes place many years ago in China. As the emperor is enjoying his life when suddenly, he is interrupted by his servant who informs him that a man has actually flown. When he is taken to see... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where a character is conflicted with another character s ideas, rule, or anything else he/she owns. And in this story, the two conflicting ideas are that of the emperor and the inventor. Who have two different opinions on the same thing. Starting with the inventor, he sees his new invention, a flying machine, as a thing of beauty, a great accomplishment, and a marvel of engineering. However the emperor sees it as a great danger, and is too beautiful for its own right(hinted by the quote Yes, too beautiful, . He would rather have something more simple and actually good. As his idea of a miracle is, The air is sweet this morning...the sun has risen and a new day is upon us. Or the sea is blue. That now is the finest of all miracles. Like for instance, when the emperor asks the inventor what he has done, he replies with, I have flown in the sky, Your Excellency. Showing how he believes his feat a great accomplishment. However the emperor replies with, You have told me nothing at all. As from his point of view, there is nothing great about this at all. Then later in the story, the emperor has him seized for inventing this thing. And when he is asked about why he is doing this, the emperor shows him a beautiful invention of his own. Which just shows a representation a good day. Claiming that to be beautiful. And the inventor quickly replies with, ... I have found beauty. I have flown the morning ... • 7. Effects Of Post Colonialism Postcolonialism The term postcolonialism has become so diverse and unorganized that it is somehow impossible to define it clearly or describe what its study may imply. Postcolonialism often means anti colonialism and is synonymous with post independence. This word has variable implications and may refer to a collection of studies which are always changing. Loomba (1998) said that it is a vague condition for people anytime and anywhere all over the world . The dependence of this theory on the literary, cultural and post structural theories makes it even vaguer (p. 17). Post colonialism may then refer in part to the period after colonialism, but the question arise: after whose colonialism? After the end of which colonial empire? Isn t it unacceptably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He claims that this implication covers the fact that this word belongs to the political theory and that it is also assigned to the period after decolonization (16). The implications of post in postcolonialism have always been a matter of discussion. Most critics claim that the word postcolonialism concerns the processes, effects of and reactions to colonialism from the sixteenth century up to the neo colonialism of the present day. Loomba (1998) believes that the post in postcolonialism has two implications. The first one is temporal and indicates that post colonialism is the aftermath of colonialism; the second one is a substitution for the first one and is a matter of discussion among critics. It somehow indicates that a country can be both postcolonial which is formally independent and neo colonial which is culturally and economically dependent (p. 7). Childs Williams (1997) declared that one meaning of post in post colonialism can be related to those theories which are not chronological but consider this word conceptually. In this sense it relates to every text which its concept transcends or goes beyond the colonialism (p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Baseball And Softball Are The Victim Of It Essay It is hard to feel injustice if you do not realize you are the victim of it. Logistically, baseball and softball are different sports although they seem very similar. Confusing them as the same sport seems innocent enough, until you truly begin to understand the differences and why they exist. It is nationally understood that baseballis for boys and softball is for girls. The girls sport is baseball, but softer. It is meant to be easier and less complicated than baseball. The difference between a baseball and a softball is three inches (Rules of Sport). It is amazing the amount of oppression caused by those three inches. If the heroines in Ring s book were treated fairly, surely there would not be such a book. Men, significantly Spalding, took a widely accepted coed s game and turned it into a game that shows masculinity and is a man maker (Ring, page 57). Due to his own insecurities, Spalding turned baseball into a way to prove his worth and his manliness. After all, it sure is hard to prove you are a man when you are getting beat by women, right? The ironic part about Spalding s claim is that while baseball is decidedly a men s game, it does not fit the general definition of manly. There is rarely contact or much movement. Most of the team members are standing in the dugout for the majority of the game. You can be out of shape and still be a baseball player, Babe Ruth for example. Regardless, the problem with Spalding s behavior is that it made a difference. It took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Absurd Heroes Of The Stranger (The Outsider) and The Myth of Sisyphus In The Myth of Sisyphus, Sisyphus is an absurd hero because he realizes his situation, does not appeal, and yet continues the struggle. The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate that The Stranger is, in narrative style, also showing us an absurd hero, or the beginning of an absurd hero in Meursault. In The Myth of Sisyphus Camus establishes the epistemology on which he bases all his works. Ant it s a very simple epistemology. He says: This heart within me I feel and I judge that I exist. At this point in the play Shakespeare has, and the stage directions are implicit in the lines themselves, left Juliet alone, alone on stage, and she kneels and she turns now from her earthly father to her Heavenly Father and says: Is there no pity in the clouds that can see the depth of my grief? And there is no answer, only silence. That is the absurd. Perhaps the first absurd heroine was Rachel. You recall the slaughter of the innocents where Herod had all the young male babies of two years and younger put to death to ensure the liquidation of any possible king. And Rachel cried out, and Matthew tells it in these words: In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation and weeping and great mourning. It would be beneficial for individual athletes to use talent identification and search programs designed to scout young athletes for future Olympics. Athletes put a tremendous amount of hours and years into their specific sport in hopes of reaching high levels of competition one day, such as the Olympics. By implementing a mode of genetic testing and testing physiological traits, it would remove the factor of chance and give a more accurate reading of athletes likeliness to reach their goals. In addition, these measures will save time by allowing the children to get involved in activities that fit them early on, ultimately saving money as well. A mother, Donna Campiglia, replied eagerly to the idea of genetic testing explaining that it would also save parental frustration (Macur). Some may argue that seeking traits in a young child would ruin the factor of enjoyment in the sport, but if the child shows success in the sport, there would be a higher chance of them enjoying what they do (Epstein). An acid and base are distinguished by the negative hydrogen concentration in a substance. If a substances loses its hydrogen concentration, it is more acidic. If a substance accepts more hydrogen, it is considered a base. The pH scale operates as a logarithmic function because the value changed 10x or greater. A pH of 3 is 10x more acidic than a substance with a pH of 4. 2. Explain what an activation energy is and how it effects a chemical reaction. • 33. The Effects Of Rape Culture And The Psychological Post... When discussing genocide, it is simpler to discuss the overall impact of the collective to create an elaborate visualization of the horrific events incurred by genocide, than to focus on the impact of a single genocidaire. The victims of genocidal violence are given a respectable amount of attention, because they are the victims of atrocities and they deserve justice and recognition for their sufferings. Due to the recent influx on research into the sociological effects of rapeculture and the psychological post traumatic effects of rape, research on the utilization of rape in genocidehas become increasingly popular among academics of all disciplines. Unfortunately, little research has been done on how genocidaires, who were once regular civilians of a state, electively join in the execution of mass violence through committing rape and murder. Modern sociologists and psychologists have yet to define a collection of definitive characteristics of the genocide rapist, as the majority of research is done on individual perpetrators have had contact with the criminal justice system and are likely incarcerated. While extensive research has been done on the characteristics of living victims, the genocidaire rapist, however, is unlikely to be individually targeted and charged with sexual assault, let alone be analyzed by behavioral scientists for diagnostic research. Assuming that not all people are inherently born with the will to kill and commit sexual violence, it s important to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A person s ethnicityis important to their identity since they grew up learning about their ancestry s past and culture in order to understand social interaction and behavior. Culture s is subunit to a Person s ethnicity since it is the knowledge, beliefs, and customs of the ethnic groups history and experience. Class, gender and race each play a vital role in determining the interactions of Jefferson s residents. Together race, gender and class portray and define the characters for who they are and act to elucidate their positions in society. In Jefferson, class superseded the stereotypes against a gender, and to an extent even law and logic. With rumors of a romantic relationship between Homer and Emily, the townspeople s first reaction was to reject the notion as folly. The women of the town speculate that a Grierson would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer while the town elders believed that Emily would be unable to forget the noblesse oblige : the obligations of the higher class (Faulkner 311). In the eyes of the town, it would be improper for a woman of such high class to intermingle with a man of lower class. This, along with his affiliation with the Yankees, results in the town turning against Homer, despite his seemingly agreeable personality. Homer and Emily s relationship created changes to the status quo. In turn these changes resulted in the summoning of Emily s sister from Alabama; this decision, later regretted by the town, was a last ditch effort to preserve the conventional order of class within Jefferson. Despite the criticism Emily receives, she chooses to continue in her pursuit of Homer, demonstrating her continued indifference to the opinions of those around her, a benefit available to her because of her social class. • 46. The Dark Age Of The Dark Ages What is the first thing you think about when I say dark age? Is it chaos? Disease? Poverty? Death? Well, you re on the right track. A dark age meant that there was very little culture, was repeatedly invaded, had no government and a bad economy, and of course, a miserable place to live. It was between 400 and 1400 AD in Europe, that was supposed to be called a dark age. While most of that did happen in Europe, it s not entirely barbaric. In fact, around the end of that time period, many things that were taken from Europe was restored. Art and education were restored around the 14th century. Food and technology were improved around that time period as well. Even laws were restored back in order so that society could be stable. So yes, I do believe that what you call a dark age, wasn t really dark because food access and farmland was restored with the add on of having clever contraptions to support the labor around the farm work, the government was strong enough to make certain laws, and innovations were being advanced. One of the reasons why Europe in the 400 to 1400 wasn t a dark age is how there was access to enough food, tools, and farmland. One piece of evidence that shows that farmland and food were available is in a textbook called, World History Before 1600: The Development of Early Civilization. One excerpt states, From 1000 to 1300, the economy of Europe developed and prospered. Available farmland tripled, and the food supply increased notably (Doc B). Also, ... The Problems Of Obedience And Authority Evangelina Venturini Colleen Harvel English F6974 October 15, 2014 The Problems of Obedience to Authority People will do about anything to stay out of trouble when it comes to someone with authority that cannot be argued with. Stanley Milgram did an experiment on the topic of obedience to authority; he wanted to know how ordinary people could do horrible things if forced to by someone of authority. Obedience to authority is instinctual for human beings, there has and will always be someone with a higher authority than ourselves. How can normal, ordinary people that think of themselves or are thought of as genuinely good people do things that they know is morally wrong when told to do so by someone of authority? That is the question that Milgram asked himself when he started his experiments. The main point of the experiment was to test why people listen and act on what people of authority tell them to do. Milgram took ordinary people and proved that most of the general populace is willing to physically hurt another human being if provoked by someone in a position of authority. This causes a person to question as Encina does, Why were those who challenged authority in the minority? So entrenched is obedience it may void personal codes of conduct (Encina). In the experiment Milgram picked people off of the streets and tested them on how far they would go to hurt someone when instructed to do so by someone of authority. This Constitution s Preamble states that ...in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, and insure domestic tranquility...promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our prosperity... If this statement is true, there would be no need to research whether assimilation or separatism would be ideal for minorities to enjoy domestic tranquility and/ or liberty. As a minority, we would not have to think about what we lose or gain if we choose assimilation or separatism. In order for assimilation to occur a minority group becomes an integrated part of the majority group; this assimilation results in non distinguishing of one group from another by cultural characteristics. In order for this process to be complete, it must entail, not only an active effort by the minority group to shed all distinguishing actions and beliefs, and also complete unqualified acceptance of that individual by the dominant society. Implementation of this process will gradually integrate the minority into the system, causing all groups to be culturally similar with their differences no longer a basis for prejudice from the dominant group. (Dubois, Miley 172) The rationale for assimilation from the structural sociologist s point of view is that assimilation is the best way to reduce cultural differences between the dominant group and the majority group.
