EYFS 2.1
Introduction:
A holistic approach to learning and development implies that one must look at the child as a whole,
as well as the way in which they interact with their surroundings. It recognises that children develop
in their own time and are creative, competent and independent thinkers. The Early Years Foundation
Stage (EYFS) Development Matters government document provides statutory requirements that
early years practitioners must implement (Early Education, 2001, p.1). The document states that
there are 4 themes of the EYFS which reinforce the guidance given. These include: the unique child,
positive relationships and enabling environments. See Appendix 1. If each theme is successfully
practiced, then there will be effective learning and

P-80 Vs American Airplanes
The P 80 was a more effective fighter jet than the MiG 15 because of its small size and
maneuverability, its fast rate of fire and its versatility of weapons, and its superior range
compared to the MiG 15. In order to examine the airplanes effectiveness, we must first look at the
background of the P 80 and why it was used in the first place. In 1943 head engineer at Lockheed,
Kelly Johnson, gathered his team of mechanics and engineers. He explained that the U.S. Air
Force had ordered them to work on a new fighter plane prototype. The Air Force also made it very
clear that they were not allowed to tell anyone about the nature of the project and they must report
directly to Johnson. The prototype was requested in response to the new German fighter jet. With
the looming threat of the Germans superior plane, the Air Force gave Johnson and his team only
one hundred and fifty days to make and test a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The jet was built around a 4,000 pound thrust, General Electric I 40 turbo jet, which enabled it to
reach a blistering top speed of 558 miles per hour. This was a very big jump in aircraft speed
from past propeller planes. However, the Korean s Soviet made MiG 15 was built with a single
Klimov VK 1A turbojet which produced 6,000 pounds of thrust that drove the MiG 15 to a top
speed of 668 miles per hour. This difference in Max speeds of the jets was clear. The MiG 15
could easily outrun a P 80. The difference in top speed really hurt the P 80 in combat because it
could not keep up with the MiG 15. However, the P 80 s inferior speed was evened out by its
extreme maneuverability. The P 80 was shorter than the MiG 15 and it weighed 7,920 pounds, 195
pounds lighter than the MiG. This combination of weight reduction and a smaller body, helped it to
be extremely maneuverable. Which means that even though it was slower than the MiG, it could
easily outmaneuver

Phoebe In The Rye, By J. D. Salinger
In the novel, J.D. Salinger also portrays Phoebe as genuine and down to earth, demonstrated
through Phoebe s actions. As Holden is about to return Phoebe s money, she is unhesitant to
give all of her own money to him. Phoebe says, You keep it. Keep it for me. Please. (231).
Phoebe s willingness to sacrifice what everyone seems to be needing in the 1950s society,
suggests that she is very heroic when it comes to Holden. Phoebe s actions manifest her genuine
and down to earth characteristics that Holden seems to like most about her. As the reader gets
more and more into the novel, they come to learn that Phoebe is Holden s only way of surviving
the society of the 1950s. Just as Phoebe discovers of Holden s dropping out from Pencey Prep, she

Individuality In Anthem
Ego a person s sense of self esteem or self importance. Also known as the forbidden word of the
totalitarian society created by Ayn Rand in Anthem. In Rand s 1938 novel, her main character,
Equality 7 2125 unknowingly followed the path of individuality, which was against the wishes of
society. Proving that knowledge is a product of the observations and mental integrations of
individuals, he rebelled against the ideals his society chained him with. He found his ego and sense
of self, amidst a world who deemed it a sin to do so. Through the point of view/narration, themes,
characterization and conflicts, Rand wanted to convey the dangers of a failed government, and the
need for individuality.
When beginning the novel, Rand uses a first person point of view, yet instead of the common
plural forms of, I and My , she has the narrator use, We and Our. Equality was taught that
individuality didn t exist, and instead that all men must be alike, therefore there is only, we. Upon
reading this, it seems as if Rand was writing about multiple people, yet this is how the society
must address themselves, because no man gets singled out. The plural forms remain the same,
until the beginning of chapter eleven, where Equality finally discovers the form of, I . This type
of narration allowed the ideals of society to be made apparent, and progressed the plot in Equality s
search of individuality.
Individualism and collectivism are two core themes that are present in the novel. It s as if these
two themes work against each other, in order to obtain individuality, you must get rid of
collectivism, and vice versa. As Equality lives through his days, he discovers his unspoken lover,
the Golden One , and begins to explore egotistical thoughts, where his curiosity grew even greater.
In chapter nine, Equality began finally discovering individuality, where he was torn on finding the
certain word that society had hidden. And we felt torn, torn for some word we could not find.
(Rand 112) In the beginning of chapter eleven, after finding a home from the unmentionable times,
he had discovered individuality within the form of I , and his mind opened up to the many great
things of this world. Equality discovering individuality

Populist and Progressive Movements
Populist And Progressives
The Populists and Progressive were two major movements that occurred during the outbreaks of the
workers union after the civil war. The populists began during the late 1800s and the progressives
began during the 1900s. There are many differences between these two movements, but yet both of
these movements have many things in common. During this time, farmers united to protect their
interests by creating a major political party. This party was known as the Peoples Party, which
became known as the Populist Party. Populists drew their strength from rural areas as many
Populists tended to mostly be poor and uneducated. They had ideas such as government ownership
of major industries. Progressives, also affected by industrialization, began their movements in
order to reestablish their society. The Populists supported labor demands, such as people in the
labor force only being allowed to work eight hour workdays. The Populists tried to encourage
more governmental control over the banking systems as well as governmental control over the
operation of the nation s railroad and communication systems. One of the most controversial
Populist demands was the money supply. Farmers saw inflation as a way to improve their way of
living as the price level of their crops began to rise. The farmers also planned to expand the money
supply at on point.
Progressivism began in the early 1900s. Progressivism was mostly centered in the cities and

George Orwell s Coming Up for Air Essay
George Orwell s Coming Up for Air
George Orwell s novel, Coming Up for Air, portrays England at two different times. The story is
based around George Bowling in 1939 and his life in the suburbs of London on Ellesmere Road,
where all the houses are the same. He is very cynical of the world around him and dreams of his
times as a child in Lower Binfield when things were not perfect, but not yet ruined by the Great
War. The vision of 1900 England versus England in 1939 creates a sharpcontrast in life for George
Bowling. In 1939 England is on the verge of another war, and life is impersonal, harsh, and
industrial. The reality of 1939 is only accentuated by George s trip to his childhood home of Lower
Binfield, where nothing is the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his excitement about fishing he buys a new rod and all the necessary equipment to go fishing
but decides to go and check out his old fishing spots before he actually fishes. The first spot he
goes to is the Thames River where he is met with a surprise. When he arrives at the river he sees,
The place was black with people. And where the water meadows used to be tea houses, penny in
the slot machines, sweet kiosks and chaps selling Wall s Ice Cream. Might as well have been at
Margate. The stream where he had found solitude as a child was completely overrun with
people. He could not fish in a place with the kind of commotion that would scare all the fish
away. The river itself had also changed. The clear water he saw as a kid had become murky and
brown. As a child he could fish all day by the river and not see another person. England had
changed since he was a child. Crowds of people and a polluted river ruined his nostalgic view of
fishing. England had grown and with the growth of the town came the destruction of nature.
Discouraged but not completely done with the idea of fishing he decided to go to find his other
sacred fishing spot. This spot had suffered an even worse fate. The spot was located near the
house at Upper Binfield (which had been turned into an insane asylum). Much to George s dismay
a new housing development had gone in by the pond he used to fish at. The pond itself had

Similarities And Similarities Between Blues And Jazz
The relation between Blues and Jazz music can be discovered if we look closely and scrutinize
the origins of both the music genres. How one developed can be found out from the roots of the
other as both the separate genres use similar sound patterns. Both of these genres belong to a
different decade/era however, are closely linked to one another. In this essay I will deliver a brief
history of both Bluesand Jazz, their similarities, and also discuss how the advancement of
technology has affected the way we hear both these genres of music.
Looking back at the history of Blues music, one can see the influence of the African American
community, tradition, and culture very apparent in it. The Blues music genrecame into being from
the songs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blues and Jazz began to share similarities during the 30s and 40s with artists like T Bone Walker
and B.B. King, who combined Jazz techniques with the tonality and repertoire of their Blues music
(Rolling Stone Encyclopedia, 53). In return, Blues chord progressions such as the twelve bar blues
are utilized by Jazz musicians during the improvisational sections of their music pieces.
To remark on some of the different features of both the styles of music, the main difference
between Blues and Jazz is the fact that Blues is characterized by the slow, melancholic tempo and
lyrics, and the utilization of guitar and piano. Whereas Jazz music relies on the basic chord
structure and breaks off into heavy improvisational sections being tied back in with the same basic
tune. It is true that the advent of Blues music came well before Jazz, however, the great influence
that Jazz has in the Blues music heard today is astonishing. Similar to the Jazz long
improvisational sections, the Blues of today has adopted that strategy and added long sections of
guitar solos being tied back with the same basic chord structure and vocal

Catechism In The Exorcist
The exorcist The exorcist is a supernatural horror drama from 1973. It is based on the novel of
the same name by William Peter Blatty. The novel is inspired by the exorcism of Roland Doe,
which took place in the late 1940s. The exorcism of Roland doe is one of the only exorcisms
documented. It was priests of the Roman Catholic Church that performed the exorcism. Later it
was discovered that he was probably just mentally ill and disturbed but it was still a good
foundation for the novel. The novel changed several details like the sex of the possessed victim
and the age. When the exorcist came out in 1973 it caused panic in movie theatres. All around the

to beg God s blessing on those who use it, and protection from the powers of darkness. Holy
water is used by almost every ancient faith to purify and cleanse things and therefor they used
that to get the demon out of Reagan. A crucifix also appears under Reagans pillow. According to
the Catholic catechism, the crucifix is a sacramental, a sacred sign And it s often used to
symbolise religion in movies and books. In the exorcist they use it to show that the demon is
very unholy by letting Reagan do very unholy things with it to say it in a nice way. The movie
got a lot of critic because it is very unholy and perverse. It s very over the top and a lot of
churches were very offended when the movie came out. Another thing they used was an Ouija
board. An Ouija board is something that some believe can create contact with the other side. And
in this movie that s how the demon possesses Reagan. They also used colour symbolism. For
example Reagan was dressed in a white night gown. White represents purity and it s a symbol of

Dream Deferred Langston Hughes
Dream Deferred, more commonly known as, Harlem, was written by African American poet
Langston Hughes in 1951. Hughes used familiar themes and subjects in contrast to his fellow poets
that used obscure lines that focused only on a small audience. These themes mainly consist of the
Harlem Renaissance and the creation of jazz poetry; both of which were linked to the inequality
that was happening in America. He wrote this poem to show the inability of African Americans to
achieve the American Dream. This influenced Langston Hughesto use similes and alliteration to
illustrate the thought process that one may experience when their dreams are not fullfilled. It
shows the various effects that a postponed dream may make happen. To further examine the poem,
connections will be drawn, figurative language will be analysed, and close reading will be applied.

about crushing the hopes and dreams thus creating a feeling of defeat in the human being (Grzenia

Benefits Of Keeping Marine Animals In Zoos
Keeping marine mammals and fish in aquariums in zoos is stressful for the fish; marine mammals
and fish can thrive in captivity, but they can only do so under safe and secure conditions. These
mammals should be kept in marine sanctuaries. Marine sanctuaries are a portion of the ocean where
the government controls the activity and interference of humans. These sanctuaries are designed for
scientific research and recreation. Fish and marine mammals are not meant to be confined to a
small and unhappy environment, where humans enjoy staring at the fish s home. The Humane
Society of the United Statesexplains their opinion in their article, Keeping Marine Mammals in
Captivity is Cruel Exploitation that keeping these wild mammals is wrong and only for the
public s amusement. The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums believes that
keeping these marine mammals in zoos benefits the health of the fish and educates the public.
The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums makes sure education is the top priority
of every worker; they rescue, rehabilitate, and release marine mammals and fish that are
abandoned and helpless. Their main goal is to educate the public about their work and to
hopefully release the fish back into its home in the ocean. Unfortunately, some of the marine
mammals and fish are too frail and weak to be released back into the ocean. If this is the case, the
Alliance members will provide a safe and friendly home for the helpless marine mammal.

Boston Marathon Bombing Speech Essay
In his speech at the Interfaith Service after the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama
effectively used language to describe the tragedy that had occurred, reference people who were
affected by the events, and to encourage the nation to stand up and stay strong. This use of
language allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known.
President Obama s use of language painted a picture of Boston, both before and after the
bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was
essential in the President s speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the
entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack, even though the majority
were not involved at all. Phrases such as sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome and spring
was in bloom allowed those listening to or reading President Obama s speech to feel as though
they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before the bombings took
place. Another use of imagery, her red hair and her freckles and her ever eager willingness to
speak her mind allowed spectators to develop a picture in their minds of one of the victims. Being
able to picture the victims forged an emotional attachment that made everyone want to stand strong

reasons that the language used in this speech was so effective. Without the correct tone, the
meaning of the words would have been distorted from their original meaning to something that

Essay on The Hours by Michael Cunningham
In his novel The Hours, Michael Cunningham creates a dazzling fabric of queer references
managing to intertwine the lives of three different women into one smooth narrative. In this essay,
I will discuss what makes The Hours queer literature, how the novel has contributed to the queer
genre, the cultural significance of the novel, and I will discuss several points made in Jeanette
McVicker s critical article Gaps and Absences in The Hours. My aim, however, is not to say that
Michael Cunningham s The Hours is strictly a queer novel, but to highlight what makes the novel
queer and to discuss Cunningham s idea of sexual orientationas a fluid entity. To begin my analysis

It is considerably easier to identify the queerness of the novel s characters and author than its
political purpose. Michael Cunningham, the novel s author, is a gay male and openly
acknowledges that his sexual orientation influences his work as can be seen by the fact that many
of his novels involve gay characters and gay experiences. In particular, The Hours features three
women who each have same sex experiences Virginia Woolf
, Laura Brown, and Clarissa Vaughn.
Virginia Woolf is a married woman who had public affairs with women and who shares a chaste
kiss with her sister during her narrative. Woolf is also the author of Mrs. Dalloway, a novel that
centers on Clarissa Dalloway, a woman who feels the same way as men feel (Woolf 36) about
women, yet marries a man as society dictates.
Laura Brown is also a married woman, like both Woolf and Dalloway, but rather than having
affairs with women, she, like Clarissa Dalloway, feels bound by her role in society and is greatly
unhappy with her situation. For a brief moment, she breaks away from her heteronormative life
and seems to truly desire to break free from the gender roles forced upon her while sharing a kiss
with her neighbor s wife, Kitty.

Investigating The Heat Of Reaction Of A Combustion Reaction
Purpose
Utilize Hess s Law to determine the heat of reaction of a combustion reaction.
Procedures
Part A Reaction of Magnesium with Hydrochloric Acid:
Materials were gathered and the mass of a calorimeter was measured, then HCl was poured into the
calorimeter and the mass was measured again. A 7 cm magnesiumribbon strip was cut into two
parts, approximately 4 cm and 3 cm, respectively. The temperature of the HCl was recorded, then
the 3 cm magnesium strip was added to the solution and the temperature was measured again.
Another trial was conducted with the 4 cm strip after the disposal of the first mixture.
Part B Reaction of Magnesium Oxide with Hydrochloric Acid:
Materials were gathered and the mass of a calorimeter was measured, then HCl was poured into
the calorimeter and the mass was measured again. The temperature of the hydrochloric acid was
recorded, then .20 grams of magnesium oxide was added to the HCl solution and the temperature
was measured for the highest achieved value. Another trial was conducted after the disposal of
materials.

Essay about America s Involvement in the Soviet Afghan War
America s Involvement in the Soviet Afghan War
The worst case scenario for the United States in the late 70s and early 80s was the threat of the
Soviet invasion of Iran and subsequent control of the Saudi Oil fields. The best that could be done
to counter a possible Soviet invasion would have been the deployment of parts of the 82nd
Airborne Division to the Zagros Mountains of Iran, which would take at least a week with
reinforcements arriving much later. This was not acceptable to the Carter Administration, which

(Nyrop, 27) Soviet convoys were also vulnerable due to the surrounding terrain. The roads were
very narrow and steep in Afghanistan. The limited road network, thin, icy air and insufficient
armor on vehicles all slowly leaded to the Soviets demise. There were other reasons for rebel
attacks on convoys. By disrupting convoys, the Soviet outposts were negatively affected, forcing
them to increase their protection; Thereby reducing the number of troops ready to battle rebels
elsewhere. After the Mujahideen cleared the convoy from the few surviving Russians, they would
sweep the convoys of all weapons, food, clothing, money, and other useful items.( Tamarov, 59)
Numerous offensives were very common, most in the early stages of the war. The mujahideen
were also heavily bombarded by massive air and artillery barrages lasting several days at a time.
But to the Soviets disadvantage, the rebels most always had sufficient warning and left before they
could bombard the area clean. When the Soviets left, the rebels would simply return. (Jalali, 77)
To combat the Soviets effectively the mujahideen were in great need of sophisticated weaponry.
Many of the mujahideen were equipped with Enfield bolt action rifles, left over from the previous
imperial conflict 65 years earlier: World War I. (Fortier)

weapons donations. At that point in time

Accounting Theory
Assignment Task
The four largest Australian Banks have faced considerable pressure from the community and the
government in recent times. This pressure has arisen due to their interest rate increases in
association with their high reported earnings. As accountants, we are responsible for preparing
financial statements and calculating the profit figures.
In your opinion, do you think the big banks are managing their reported earnings to show lesser
profits than what they are actually earning (i.e. using earnings management techniques)? You are
required, and must, read and incorporate academic journal articles and other relevant materials to
justify your viewpoint. INTRODUCTION
Accounting can be broadly defined as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to do so, it is necessary to understand and define earnings Management.
Definition of Earnings Management
Healy and Wahlen (1999) define earnings management as:
Earnings management occurs when managers use judgement in financial reporting and in
structuring transactions to alter financial reports to either mislead some stakeholders about the
underlying economic performance of the company or to influence contractual outcomes that depend
on reported accounting numbers.
Another definition is given by Fields et al. (2001) who state that:
Earnings management occurs when managers exercise their discretion over accounting numbers
with or without restrictions. Such discretion can be either firm value maximizing or opportunistic .
The above definitions highlight the point that managerial intent is a criterion for earnings
management (Spohr 2005). Several academic literatures seek to point out the activities which can
be considered to be earnings management. However, as the definition of earnings management does
not rely on any one item of the income statement, it does not need to be directly connected to
reported earnings. Its impact is through accounting numbers and may also be directed at financial
ratios as opposed to earnings (Schipper 1989). Dechow and Skinner (2000) have classified earnings
management as follows:

Kids nowadays know more about the Internet than you could imagine.
Parents should learn to take the time to monitor what their kids go on, take the time to learn
what is appropriate and what is not. Learn how to avoid seeing or sharing violent messages and
images. Knowledge is they key to power. You should always know what s going on in someone
s life, especially if it involves them or anybody else . (Youth Engage 2014) Many parents have no
idea what goes on when their kids go upstairs or go into a different room. Children could be getting
violated or harassed and no one would ever know. So before it happens, think about how much
freedom children should have online.
If you think this stuff doesn t happen it does. Many people think media violence isn t as serious as it
actually is, but in reality this sort of stuff happens all the time. Major news corporations are
widely known for their corrupt stories of major headlines. One major case known by the whole
country is the Trayvon Martin shooting. Martin was a 17 year old African American high school
student who was stopped by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman. Zimmerman
claimed he shot and killed Martin out of self defense. The media took this story and exploded it
into a nationwide topic. They portrayed Trayvon as a young innocent man who looked to do no
wrong doing. They only displayed pictures of Trayvon when he looked young and innocent. They

In this stage, we feel the world around us turn out to be worthless and devastating, and we keep
us in a state of rejection. She further describes that we attempt to get a way to overcome day by
day. As we admit the truth of the loss and begin to ask ourselves question, we are unknowingly
experiencing the healing process. We are becoming stronger, and the denial is beginning to
fade. Anger is the next stage in the grieving process which is an essential phase of healing
process. The truth is that anger has no limits. When a person is angry it can spread to our
friends, our family, to ourselves and our loved one who died, also to God. In this situation, we
may ask the question to ourselves, where is God? Through anger we gradually acquire an inner
strength to cope with the situation, and we often feel the relation created from the strength of
anger is something useful. Clearly, we feel that anger is another mode of showing the intensity
of our love towards our loved ones. Bargaining is another stage in the grieving process in which
the grieving person makes bargains with God. In this stage, the grieving person may ask, God
will you carry away my loss, if I do this? Bargaining seldom give a permanent resolution,
particularly, if it s a subject of life or death. Depression is the next step in grieving process in
which the grieving person shows disinterest and will be reluctant from things of love and affection.

A Journal Of The Plague Year
A Journal of the Plague Year , is a novel written in first person, told by the protagonist H.F. It was
written by Daniel Defoe and speaks of the plague that occurred in London. This book was
published about 57 years after the plague occurred. This novel is a story of his experiences during
that plague that occurred in Londonin the year 1665. It is a fictional book but there is a lot of data,
statistics, and even government documents throughout the pages.
H.F. speaks on how the plague must have come to them from Holland. As the plague worsens
H.F. wonders if he should leave the city or not after the number of deaths starts to rise. The main
reason he does not want to leave is because he is a saddler and feels like he needs to stay and keep
up his shop. He knew that if he left he would lose his business and all he had worked for.
Throughout his story we gain and understanding of his observations and how he was seeing this
horrible plague affect his home. He notices that the rich are leaving the city while the poor have
no choice but to stay and try and fight for their lives. Once H.F. does decide to flee the city we
learn that things are not going to go as smoothly as he had hoped. H.F. had hoped to find a horse
to help flee the country with but there were not many left. He then decides to take a servant he
trusted along with him and they leave. His sisters; house in Lincolnshire is where he plans to go to.

Relationship Between A Parent And Child Relationship
Throughout history human behavior has held a continuing fascination for artists of all kinds. The
way in which human beings relate to one another has been a source of inspiration to painters,
sculptors, authors, composers, playwrights, filmmakers and photographers alike.
Relationships between people vary from the everyday dynamics and the significance in which they
value one another and each connection between those relationships makes a different impact on the
one of someone else. There are many relationships people form throughout their lives, for instance
the primary relationships at the start of their lives, between parent and child, and siblings, which
start in the home. A relationship between a parent and child has a special unspoken bond in which
they share indescribable love, never ending care and affection for each other, as the parent is the
only depended and reliable thing they have. A good parent and child relationship can teach a child
how to form other bonds with mutual respect and admiration, such as friendships further on in life.
As people grow and develop, they form secondary connections such as friendships and intimate
relationships.
Friendships are predominantly built on trust, even as young children. Interaction with peers helps to
strengthen character and introduces a sense of belonging with others rather than family. Children
are naturally trusting, which means they form bonds with one another instinctively. As they get
older and gain knowledge,

How Does Electrolyte Affects The Body
Electrolytes are a very important part in our lives, whether we know it or not. My topic that I
chose is on the effectiveness of electrolyte drinks and athletic performance. It is understandable that
hydration is key, and that electrolytes really help the body. But sometimes people just want to know
more about things. So, in this essay, we will divulge into the deeper understandings or electrolytes
and their affect on our body. Firstly, we need to understand exactly what an electrolyteis. The
scientific definition of an electrolyte is that it is a chemical compound that conducts electricity by
changing into ions when melted or dissolved into a solution. That might seem kind of complicated,
but just thinking of elemental compounds such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example again would be like an acid that can dissolve in water. If it creates some sort of an
electrical current in a substance, it is an electrolyte. In the body, however, electrolytes are minerals
in your blood and other body fluids that carry an electric charge ( Disabled World ). Common
electrolytes found in the body include Calcium, Phosphorous, Chloride and Magnesium.
Electrolytes are what allow a cell to do miscellaneous necessities, such as generating energy,
maintaining stability in cell walls, etc. They can do this by generating electricity, contracting
muscles, moving fluids from one place or another, etc. Electrolytes are very important in helping
the body function. They allow the body to work and function very well. So what happens when
you don t have enough electrolytes? Many things can happen, and they aren t that good. Sodium
imbalance is probably one of the biggest problems. A number of things can happen here, including
hyponatremia. If you break down the word, this word does not seem to complicated to define.
Hypo means to have too little of something. Natr is sodium, and emia is in the blood. So, this is
when the body does not have enough sodium in the blood

The King Of The Egyptian Dynasty
Tutankhamun was the twelfth king of the 18th Egyptian dynasty. His reign can be seen as a period
of religious transition to the extent of that he reverted back to the traditional Egyptian religion after
his predecessor s radical revolution and laid the foundations for future rulers. However, it has been
observed that many of the actions that were made during his reign were not made by him, instead
by his advisors. Tutankhamuns reign can be seen as a period of religious transition but only to a
certain extent.
After Akhenaten s Amarna Revolution , Tutankhamun needed to gain the confidence of his people,
and did so by returning to the traditional, polytheistic religion of Egypt. The state of society and the
land that Tutankhamun was faced with is expressed in the Restoration Stela in Source 2, ...piles of
rubble and overgrown with weeds...the world was in chaos and the gods had turned their back on
this land...everything that had been, was destroyed. While the Restoration Stela has obvious
elements of embellishment as it is a form of propaganda to promote the king and his deeds, it
provides an insight into the world in which Tutankhamun reigned. It was one of Tutankhamun s first
acts as pharaoh to return to orthodoxy and to reinstate Amun as the supreme state god. It is
unknown what the true purpose of this was but historians have various theories. French
Egyptologist, Christiane Desroches Noblecourt argues that Tutankhamun was influenced and
manipulated by his advisors,

remarkable first generation groups were H.O.T., Shinhwa, G.O.D., and S.E.S. The target audience
for the first generation K pop groups were teens. Their images, clothing styles, music, and
personalities all catered and appealed to the teens. For example, groups like H.O.T and Sechs Kies
embraced rebellious identities and criticized the South Korean education system. At the same time,
they released dance music along to clarify that their identities were closer to attractive teen oriented

It is the social media age right now; thus, social media presence helps many newly debuted groups
gain more exposure. Gangnam Style by PSY certainly influenced the new Hallyu wave (the Korean

Some of the most famous third generation idols are BTS, Twice, Red Velvet, Wanna One, and
Seventeen. At this point, measurements of success and accomplishments have gradually changed

Fantastic. Tremendous. Great. These are all synonyms for the word roaring. When looking at these
synonyms, it is clear to see why the 1920s in America are more often referred to as the Roaring
20s. The Roaring 20s were an important part of American history, as they set the stage for some of
the most iconic movements and changes that have shaped the nation. These important changes and
movements include: the Flapper Movement , the Harlem Renaissance, and the huge economic
shifts that took place during the 1920s. The Roaring 20s is one of the most important time periods

The economy also changed drastically during the Roaring 20 s. The Boom Cycle was the first
reason the economy changed in the early 1920s. WWI had just recently ended in 1918, so this
meant that American companies could once again begin building materials to sell, and not just
to benefit the war. Soldiers were also coming back home from overseas, and these thousands of
men would need jobs. As shown in Document 1, this resulted in a Boom Cycle. The Boom Cycle
consists of increased employment leading to increased profits, this resulted in increased
purchasing power. Increased purchasing power lead to an increased demand for goods,
meaning companies increased production, which resulted in increased sales, and finally
completing the cycle, as increased sales led to increased employment. Because of this boom
cycle, the American economy was extremely prosperous in the early 1920s. There was one
downside to this increased economy, however. The 1920s generation grew up in this prosperous
economy, and the older generation saw them as being spoiled. This idea of the 1920s generation
being spoiled coincides with the flapper movement, as women began wearing more expensive
clothing and jewelry. As seen in Document 9, the older generation felt like the 1920s generation
didn t appreciate hard work, or anything that they had in life, and they believed that the new
generation wanted more than they needed or deserved. This sense of greed and materialism led
people to want to make even more money, so when they heard of the great success people were
having in the stock market, thousands of people began to also put money into the stock market.
Document 2A states that the average American could make $20,000 to $30,000 overnight by
simply investing in the stock market. However, like most good things, this economic prosperity
came to a crashing fall. In 1929, the American economy

Essay on Equality and Civil Rights
Democracy stresses the equality of all individuals and insists that all men are created equal.
Democracy does not persist on an equality of condition for all people or argue that all persons
have a right to an equal share of worldly goods. Rather, its concept of equality insists that all are
entitled to equality of opportunity and equality before the law. The democratic concept of equality
holds that no person should be held back for any such arbitrary reasons as those based on race,
color, religion, or gender. This concept of equality holds that each person must be free to
develop himself or herself as fully as he or she can or cares to and that each person should be

Equality and Civil Rights is complex in nature that the 14th Amendment (Equal Protection
Clause) is the closest approach to a literal statement of equality, it declares: No State shall deny
to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. The clause was originally
intended to benefit newly freed slaves. Over time, it has acquired a broader meaning. Today, it
forbids states and their local governments to draw unreasonable distinctions between classes of
persons. The equal rights amendment (ERA) was introduced in 1923. Their policy was for
protection of women and based largely on sexual stereotypes, which has been woven into the legal
fabric of American life. This protectionism has limited the freedom of women to compete with
men socially and economically on an equal footing. The movement to provide equal rights to
women advanced a step with the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963. That act required equal pay
for men and women doing similar work. On the other hand, to remove the restrictions of
protectionism, women needed equal opportunity for employment. They got it in the Civil Rights
Act of 1964 and later the legislation. The commitment that led to affirmative action programs
expanded opportunities for women, minorities, and those who are disabled.

Essay about Comparison of Flood Stories
Comparison of Flood Stories There have been numerous flood stories identified from ancient
sources throughout the world. The Bible and the Koran both have flood stories that are similar but
also share differences. The Epic of Gilgamesh also has a flood myth that is contrary to other flood
accounts. Even though these stories are all dissimilar they all start because of the faults of man.
The notion of the flood comes from a varied source in each story. In the Koran it was Noah who
asked God to flood the Earth because of man s sins while in the Bible,
God called down upon Noah and told him of the plan to flood the Earth and destroy all that was
upon it because of man s wickedness. In Gilgamesh the flood comes to Utnapishtim in a ... Show

The Bible states that Noah took only his family members and two of each animal. In the Epic of
Gilgamesh it is said that Utnapishtim took not only family members but others as well including
craftsmen and a pilot for the boat. Utnapishtim also took some of every species of animal with him
because he was told to do so in his dream.
The source of the waters and the duration of the excursions were not the same. The Bible states
that it rained for forty days and forty nights with the water coming from heavy rain and ground
water. It also says that after Noah landed on a mountain it took a long time for the Earth to dry
up. During this time Noah sent out a raven and three doves until the last of the three doves did
not return and then he knew the land was dry. In Gilgamesh the rain only lasted for six days and
six nights and after stopping on the mountain the land did not take as long to dry up.
Utnapishtim also sent out birds to see if the water was still standing but he sent out a dove, a
swallow, and a raven. When the raven did not return Utnapishtim knew the Earth was clean. Both
Noah and Utnapishtim made sacrifices at the end of the flood and both were blessed but in
different ways. Noah was told his family was blessed and to go out and multiply while Utnapishtim
was made a god and given eternal life.

Three stages are faced by most school aged children. Stage three, initiative vs. guilt, is for
preschoolers. If they are given freedom to imagine, be responsible, take decisions, to plan, then
tendency toward initiative will be encouraged. However, if children are always restricted and
not shown any appreciation for their ideas or decisions, they will feel guilty about acting on
their own. The fourth stage, industry vs. inferiority, is for students of elementary and middle
school. Children are encouraged to do things well and finish tasks. They are praised for their
achievements and they develop self confidence and industry. But, children who fail to achieve or
who are constantly criticized will be left with the feeling of inferiority. Identity vs. role
confusion is the fifth stage faced by adolescence, from 12 18 years. In this stage, adolescents seek
their true selves and identity through exploration of different behaviors, values, and beliefs. If
adolescent succeeds, identity develops and if they don t, it results into role confusion. When an

Models of Disability
Disability is a human reality that has been perceived differently by diverse cultures and historical
periods. For most of the 20th century, disability was defined according to a medical model. In the
medical model, disability is assumed to be a way to characterize a particular set of largely static,

it an umbrella term with several components: * impairments: a problem in body function or

The Medical Model
Under the Medical Model, disabled people are defined by their illness or medical condition. The
Medical Model regards disability as an individual problem. It promotes the view of a disabled
person as dependent and needing to be cured or cared for, and justifies the way in which disabled
people have been systematically excluded from society. The disabled person is the problem, not
society. Control resides firmly with professionals; choices for the individual are limited to the
options provided and approved by the helping expert.
The Medical Model is best summarised by referring to the International Classification of
Impairments, Disabilities and Handicaps developed by the World Health Organisation in 1980. The
classification makes the following distinctions:
Impairment is any loss or abnormality of psychological, physiological or anatomical structure or
function .
Disability is any restriction or lack (resulting from an impairment) of ability to perform an activity
in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being .
Diagram of Medical Model
The Medical Model focuses on what a person can t do: Impairment| Disability| A wheelchair user|
cannot climb the stairs or walk to the shops| A partially sighted person| cannot read

The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Executive Control In...
In the article, the purpose of this study was to verify and compare how the effect of 10 min of
aerobic exercise performed above and below lactate threshold (LT) on executive control in children.
In the article, it mentions how children are becoming sedentary. That means it increase the
prevalence of overweight and low physical fitness. This much inactivity affects brainhealth and
some aspects of cognition. It affects the executive control. It s something to be concern about
because in childhood there are some extensive changes in the brain structure, function, and
connectivity. If children can have an active lifestyle it may have protective effects on brain health
across the lifespan. While reading I saw that it was no studies that... Show more content on

They did fat percentage by using an adipometer through triceps and subscapular skinfolds
measurements. Lactate Threshold in the subjects was obtained through in incremental test that
was adapted from the protocol developed by SimГµes et al. It ran for 6 times 500 m at 80%,
83%, 86%, 89%, 92%, and 95% of the average running speed that was obtained during the Cooper
s 12 min track test. In the last 10 secs of each 500 m run, a blood sample was taken from the
earlobe and was put into Eppendorf tubes containing sodium fluoride. The concentrations from each
sample was used by a blood lactate analyzer. Then the lactate threshold was found as the intensity at
the breakpoint in the blood lactate concentration curve occurred.
In the cognitive test the subjects did computerized modified flanker task to assess their
inhibitory control. They did congruent and incongruent trials that required the subjects to press a
button to the direction of the centrally presented target arrow. In the congruent trials the arrows
were facing the same direction and in the incongruent trials the middle arrow is facing the
opposite direction of the others. It was a total of 20 trials the arrows. They did a Free recall

Great Expectations By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Throughout Great Expectations, the main character Pip seems to undergo a transformation. He
starts off as a common boy who will soon be a blacksmith apprentice and will learn from his
sister s husband, Joe, who also acts as a father figure for Pip. Pip has a lot of respect for money
and strongly desires to become a gentleman to impress the girl that he is in love with, Estella.
Because of this he travels to London where he learns the way of a gentleman. With the people
that Pip knows back home and the new ones that he meets in London, his behavior and attitude is
clearly influenced by the people that he surrounds himself with. Sometimes it s a good influence
and other times it s not. Pip also seems to have a set idea of what a gentleman is and because of
that he misinterprets what an actual gentleman is suppose to be like. As a young boy Pip and Joe
have a very good relationship. It seems as if Joe is actually the only one who doesn t treat Pip
cruelly or judges him because of what class he belongs to. Joe is a very kind man with a big heart
and throughout the whole movie sticks by Pips side. He is a hard worker and wants what s best for
Pip. In the beginning Pip looks forward to becoming Joe s apprentice and becoming a blacksmith
like him. Pip doesn t have a dad but Joe fills that void and treats Pip as if he was his own. Joe for
even a common laborer seems to have some manners that a gentleman would have. When Jaggers
goes to Joe s house in search of Pip, Joe makes

Incurable Disease Research Paper
Millions of people suffer daily from incurable diseases. The reality for a person affected by an
incurable disease is that from the moment they are diagnosed and even before that back to the
moment they experienced their first symptom, they will have their disease. While these diseases
do not have a cure, treatments do exist to manage the symptoms. Often, the prescription drugs
available to sufferers of these painful, sometimes life threatening ailments are expensive and carry
side effects of their own. A remedy used for treatment of many of these symptoms and side effects,
historically dating back to as early as the 2700 s B.C. has, within the last 20 years, begun its re
ascent into medical potential. Cannabis was first documented in medical... Show more content on

The first and possibly most important fact to which many people are uneducated is the idea that
users of medical cannabis are getting stoned, but the reality is that scientists are capable of
modifying strains of cannabis used medically to contain low amounts of the intoxicant,
tetrahydrocannabiniol, more commonly known as THC, and higher amounts of cannabidiol
(Coulter and Jenewein). In most cases medical cannabis is not ingested as an inhalant but instead as
an orally administered oil. Another common argument against cannabis is damage caused to the
hippocampus which can cause short and long term memory impairment, very real side effects that
should be considered and monitored for carefully, but studies have discovered the potential to
combat these issues with the use of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen
(Welberg). While there is still much to learn about the use of cannabis medically, it should be
remembered that there is still much to learn about many medical treatments and options but unlike
cannabis, other treatments do not have an accompanying stereotype to

Essay On Gender Inequality
Amnesty International
5 Penn Plaza, 16th Floor
New York, NY 1001
Dear Advocacy Representative, As many of us know throughout history there have been many
inequalities that the world has been faced with; whether it is race, gender, or ethnic background. I
am writing you, the representatives for Equal Rights to discuss an urgent concern of American
women in the workplace. Although gender inequality is decreasing, it still exists and makes a lot of
people suffer its consequences every day. Gender inequality is unfair rights between male and
female based on different gender roles which leads to unequal treatment. Gender inequality has been
widely known in human history but not until the beginning of the 20th century has the change of ...

This historic rise came about in 2005 and, since then, the pay gap has remained roughly
unchanged. Women as a whole experience the gender pay gap but there is also a racial pay gap. A
woman makes 77 cents for every dollar a Caucasian man makes.
Last year when looking at median hourly pay, black workers earned $18.49 an hour. White
workers earned an average of $25.22 an hour. Caucasian women make about 75 cents to every
dollar a caucasian man makes. Asian women make an average of 85 cents to every dollar a
caucasian man makes. For black, Latina, and Native women, that number is significantly lower.
On average, Latina and black women who are low wage earners and work full time live below the
poverty line. White men who are low wage earners and work full time live above the poverty line.
According to the map from National Women s Law Center women lose $418,800 over a 40 year
career. That number is more than double from latina and black women. It will take years for the
gap to be resolved. In the U.S the gender wage gap is lower than it is in any country although there
has not being improvements since the 1990s. However, the contribution of men to household and
childcare has grown significantly in recent years, it is still far below women s contributions.
In today s society, women make up almost half of the workforce; in four out of ten families,
women are the equal, if not main, breadwinners as

  • 2. EYFS 2.1 Introduction: A holistic approach to learning and development implies that one must look at the child as a whole, as well as the way in which they interact with their surroundings. It recognises that children develop in their own time and are creative, competent and independent thinkers. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Development Matters government document provides statutory requirements that early years practitioners must implement (Early Education, 2001, p.1). The document states that there are 4 themes of the EYFS which reinforce the guidance given. These include: the unique child, positive relationships and enabling environments. See Appendix 1. If each theme is successfully practiced, then there will be effective learning and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. P-80 Vs American Airplanes The P 80 was a more effective fighter jet than the MiG 15 because of its small size and maneuverability, its fast rate of fire and its versatility of weapons, and its superior range compared to the MiG 15. In order to examine the airplanes effectiveness, we must first look at the background of the P 80 and why it was used in the first place. In 1943 head engineer at Lockheed, Kelly Johnson, gathered his team of mechanics and engineers. He explained that the U.S. Air Force had ordered them to work on a new fighter plane prototype. The Air Force also made it very clear that they were not allowed to tell anyone about the nature of the project and they must report directly to Johnson. The prototype was requested in response to the new German fighter jet. With the looming threat of the Germans superior plane, the Air Force gave Johnson and his team only one hundred and fifty days to make and test a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The jet was built around a 4,000 pound thrust, General Electric I 40 turbo jet, which enabled it to reach a blistering top speed of 558 miles per hour. This was a very big jump in aircraft speed from past propeller planes. However, the Korean s Soviet made MiG 15 was built with a single Klimov VK 1A turbojet which produced 6,000 pounds of thrust that drove the MiG 15 to a top speed of 668 miles per hour. This difference in Max speeds of the jets was clear. The MiG 15 could easily outrun a P 80. The difference in top speed really hurt the P 80 in combat because it could not keep up with the MiG 15. However, the P 80 s inferior speed was evened out by its extreme maneuverability. The P 80 was shorter than the MiG 15 and it weighed 7,920 pounds, 195 pounds lighter than the MiG. This combination of weight reduction and a smaller body, helped it to be extremely maneuverable. Which means that even though it was slower than the MiG, it could easily outmaneuver ... • 4. Phoebe In The Rye, By J. D. Salinger In the novel, J.D. Salinger also portrays Phoebe as genuine and down to earth, demonstrated through Phoebe s actions. As Holden is about to return Phoebe s money, she is unhesitant to give all of her own money to him. Phoebe says, You keep it. Keep it for me. Please. (231). Phoebe s willingness to sacrifice what everyone seems to be needing in the 1950s society, suggests that she is very heroic when it comes to Holden. Phoebe s actions manifest her genuine and down to earth characteristics that Holden seems to like most about her. As the reader gets more and more into the novel, they come to learn that Phoebe is Holden s only way of surviving the society of the 1950s. • 6. Individuality In Anthem Ego a person s sense of self esteem or self importance. Also known as the forbidden word of the totalitarian society created by Ayn Rand in Anthem. In Rand s 1938 novel, her main character, Equality 7 2125 unknowingly followed the path of individuality, which was against the wishes of society. Proving that knowledge is a product of the observations and mental integrations of individuals, he rebelled against the ideals his society chained him with. He found his ego and sense of self, amidst a world who deemed it a sin to do so. Through the point of view/narration, themes, characterization and conflicts, Rand wanted to convey the dangers of a failed government, and the need for individuality. When beginning the novel, Rand uses a first person point of view, yet instead of the common plural forms of, I and My , she has the narrator use, We and Our. Equality was taught that individuality didn t exist, and instead that all men must be alike, therefore there is only, we. Upon reading this, it seems as if Rand was writing about multiple people, yet this is how the society must address themselves, because no man gets singled out. The plural forms remain the same, until the beginning of chapter eleven, where Equality finally discovers the form of, I . This type of narration allowed the ideals of society to be made apparent, and progressed the plot in Equality s search of individuality. Individualism and collectivism are two core themes that are present in the novel. It s as if these two themes work against each other, in order to obtain individuality, you must get rid of collectivism, and vice versa. As Equality lives through his days, he discovers his unspoken lover, the Golden One , and begins to explore egotistical thoughts, where his curiosity grew even greater. In chapter nine, Equality began finally discovering individuality, where he was torn on finding the certain word that society had hidden. And we felt torn, torn for some word we could not find. (Rand 112) In the beginning of chapter eleven, after finding a home from the unmentionable times, he had discovered individuality within the form of I , and his mind opened up to the many great things of this world. • 7. Populist and Progressive Movements Populist And Progressives The Populists and Progressive were two major movements that occurred during the outbreaks of the workers union after the civil war. The populists began during the late 1800s and the progressives began during the 1900s. There are many differences between these two movements, but yet both of these movements have many things in common. During this time, farmers united to protect their interests by creating a major political party. This party was known as the Peoples Party, which became known as the Populist Party. Populists drew their strength from rural areas as many Populists tended to mostly be poor and uneducated. They had ideas such as government ownership of major industries. Progressives, also affected by industrialization, began their movements in order to reestablish their society. The Populists supported labor demands, such as people in the labor force only being allowed to work eight hour workdays. The Populists tried to encourage more governmental control over the banking systems as well as governmental control over the operation of the nation s railroad and communication systems. One of the most controversial Populist demands was the money supply. Farmers saw inflation as a way to improve their way of living as the price level of their crops began to rise. The farmers also planned to expand the money supply at on point. Progressivism began in the early 1900s. Progressivism was mostly centered in the cities and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. George Orwell s Coming Up for Air Essay George Orwell s Coming Up for Air George Orwell s novel, Coming Up for Air, portrays England at two different times. The story is based around George Bowling in 1939 and his life in the suburbs of London on Ellesmere Road, where all the houses are the same. He is very cynical of the world around him and dreams of his times as a child in Lower Binfield when things were not perfect, but not yet ruined by the Great War. The vision of 1900 England versus England in 1939 creates a sharpcontrast in life for George Bowling. In 1939 England is on the verge of another war, and life is impersonal, harsh, and industrial. The reality of 1939 is only accentuated by George s trip to his childhood home of Lower Binfield, where nothing is the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And where the water meadows used to be tea houses, penny in the slot machines, sweet kiosks and chaps selling Wall s Ice Cream. Might as well have been at Margate. The stream where he had found solitude as a child was completely overrun with people. He could not fish in a place with the kind of commotion that would scare all the fish away. The river itself had also changed. The clear water he saw as a kid had become murky and brown. As a child he could fish all day by the river and not see another person. England had changed since he was a child. Crowds of people and a polluted river ruined his nostalgic view of fishing. England had grown and with the growth of the town came the destruction of nature. Discouraged but not completely done with the idea of fishing he decided to go to find his other sacred fishing spot. This spot had suffered an even worse fate. The spot was located near the house at Upper Binfield (which had been turned into an insane asylum). Much to George s dismay a new housing development had gone in by the pond he used to fish at. • 10. Similarities And Similarities Between Blues And Jazz The relation between Blues and Jazz music can be discovered if we look closely and scrutinize the origins of both the music genres. How one developed can be found out from the roots of the other as both the separate genres use similar sound patterns. Both of these genres belong to a different decade/era however, are closely linked to one another. In this essay I will deliver a brief history of both Bluesand Jazz, their similarities, and also discuss how the advancement of technology has affected the way we hear both these genres of music. Looking back at the history of Blues music, one can see the influence of the African American community, tradition, and culture very apparent in it. Blues and Jazz began to share similarities during the 30s and 40s with artists like T Bone Walker and B.B. King, who combined Jazz techniques with the tonality and repertoire of their Blues music (Rolling Stone Encyclopedia, 53). In return, Blues chord progressions such as the twelve bar blues are utilized by Jazz musicians during the improvisational sections of their music pieces. To remark on some of the different features of both the styles of music, the main difference between Blues and Jazz is the fact that Blues is characterized by the slow, melancholic tempo and lyrics, and the utilization of guitar and piano. Whereas Jazz music relies on the basic chord structure and breaks off into heavy improvisational sections being tied back in with the same basic tune. It is true that the advent of Blues music came well before Jazz, however, the great influence that Jazz has in the Blues music heard today is astonishing. Similar to the Jazz long improvisational sections, the Blues of today has adopted that strategy and added long sections of guitar solos being tied back with the same basic chord structure and vocal ... The novel is inspired by the exorcism of Roland Doe, which took place in the late 1940s. The exorcism of Roland doe is one of the only exorcisms documented. It was priests of the Roman Catholic Church that performed the exorcism. Later it was discovered that he was probably just mentally ill and disturbed but it was still a good foundation for the novel. • 12. Dream Deferred Langston Hughes Dream Deferred, more commonly known as, Harlem, was written by African American poet Langston Hughes in 1951. Hughes used familiar themes and subjects in contrast to his fellow poets that used obscure lines that focused only on a small audience. These themes mainly consist of the Harlem Renaissance and the creation of jazz poetry; both of which were linked to the inequality that was happening in America. He wrote this poem to show the inability of African Americans to achieve the American Dream. This influenced Langston Hughesto use similes and alliteration to illustrate the thought process that one may experience when their dreams are not fullfilled. Benefits Of Keeping Marine Animals In Zoos Keeping marine mammals and fish in aquariums in zoos is stressful for the fish; marine mammals and fish can thrive in captivity, but they can only do so under safe and secure conditions. These mammals should be kept in marine sanctuaries. Marine sanctuaries are a portion of the ocean where the government controls the activity and interference of humans. These sanctuaries are designed for scientific research and recreation. Fish and marine mammals are not meant to be confined to a small and unhappy environment, where humans enjoy staring at the fish s home. The Humane Society of the United Statesexplains their opinion in their article, Keeping Marine Mammals in Captivity is Cruel Exploitation that keeping these wild mammals is wrong and only for the public s amusement. The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums believes that keeping these marine mammals in zoos benefits the health of the fish and educates the public. The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums makes sure education is the top priority of every worker; they rescue, rehabilitate, and release marine mammals and fish that are abandoned and helpless. Their main goal is to educate the public about their work and to hopefully release the fish back into its home in the ocean. • 14. Boston Marathon Bombing Speech Essay In his speech at the Interfaith Service after the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama effectively used language to describe the tragedy that had occurred, reference people who were affected by the events, and to encourage the nation to stand up and stay strong. This use of language allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known. President Obama s use of language painted a picture of Boston, both before and after the bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was essential in the President s speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack, even though the majority were not involved at all. Phrases such as sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome and spring was in bloom allowed those listening to or reading President Obama s speech to feel as though they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before the bombings took place. In particular, The Hours features three women who each have same sex experiences Virginia Woolf , Laura Brown, and Clarissa Vaughn. Virginia Woolf is a married woman who had public affairs with women and who shares a chaste kiss with her sister during her narrative. Woolf is also the author of Mrs. Dalloway, a novel that centers on Clarissa Dalloway, a woman who feels the same way as men feel (Woolf 36) about women, yet marries a man as society dictates. Laura Brown is also a married woman, like both Woolf and Dalloway, but rather than having affairs with women, she, like Clarissa Dalloway, feels bound by her role in society and is greatly unhappy with her situation. Such discretion can be either firm value maximizing or opportunistic . The above definitions highlight the point that managerial intent is a criterion for earnings management (Spohr 2005). Several academic literatures seek to point out the activities which can be considered to be earnings management. However, as the definition of earnings management does not rely on any one item of the income statement, it does not need to be directly connected to reported earnings. Its impact is through accounting numbers and may also be directed at financial ratios as opposed to earnings (Schipper 1989). Dechow and Skinner (2000) have classified earnings management as follows: Reporting TypeAccounting choices Within GAAP Conservative AccountingOverly aggressive recognition of provisions or reserves ... Relationships between people vary from the everyday dynamics and the significance in which they value one another and each connection between those relationships makes a different impact on the one of someone else. There are many relationships people form throughout their lives, for instance the primary relationships at the start of their lives, between parent and child, and siblings, which start in the home. A relationship between a parent and child has a special unspoken bond in which they share indescribable love, never ending care and affection for each other, as the parent is the only depended and reliable thing they have. A good parent and child relationship can teach a child how to form other bonds with mutual respect and admiration, such as friendships further on in life. As people grow and develop, they form secondary connections such as friendships and intimate relationships. Friendships are predominantly built on trust, even as young children. His reign can be seen as a period of religious transition to the extent of that he reverted back to the traditional Egyptian religion after his predecessor s radical revolution and laid the foundations for future rulers. However, it has been observed that many of the actions that were made during his reign were not made by him, instead by his advisors. Tutankhamuns reign can be seen as a period of religious transition but only to a certain extent. After Akhenaten s Amarna Revolution , Tutankhamun needed to gain the confidence of his people, and did so by returning to the traditional, polytheistic religion of Egypt. It was one of Tutankhamun s first acts as pharaoh to return to orthodoxy and to reinstate Amun as the supreme state god. The Boom Cycle was the first reason the economy changed in the early 1920s. WWI had just recently ended in 1918, so this meant that American companies could once again begin building materials to sell, and not just to benefit the war. Soldiers were also coming back home from overseas, and these thousands of men would need jobs. As shown in Document 1, this resulted in a Boom Cycle. The Boom Cycle consists of increased employment leading to increased profits, this resulted in increased purchasing power. Increased purchasing power lead to an increased demand for goods, meaning companies increased production, which resulted in increased sales, and finally completing the cycle, as increased sales led to increased employment. Because of this boom cycle, the American economy was extremely prosperous in the early 1920s. There was one downside to this increased economy, however. The 1920s generation grew up in this prosperous economy, and the older generation saw them as being spoiled. This idea of the 1920s generation being spoiled coincides with the flapper movement, as women began wearing more expensive clothing and jewelry. As seen in Document 9, the older generation felt like the 1920s generation didn t appreciate hard work, or anything that they had in life, and they believed that the new generation wanted more than they needed or deserved. This sense of greed and materialism led people to want to make even more money, so when they heard of the great success people were having in the stock market, thousands of people began to also put money into the stock market. Document 2A states that the average American could make $20,000 to $30,000 overnight by simply investing in the stock market. The clause was originally intended to benefit newly freed slaves. Over time, it has acquired a broader meaning. Today, it forbids states and their local governments to draw unreasonable distinctions between classes of persons. The equal rights amendment (ERA) was introduced in 1923. Their policy was for protection of women and based largely on sexual stereotypes, which has been woven into the legal fabric of American life. This protectionism has limited the freedom of women to compete with men socially and economically on an equal footing. The movement to provide equal rights to women advanced a step with the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963. That act required equal pay for men and women doing similar work. On the other hand, to remove the restrictions of protectionism, women needed equal opportunity for employment. They got it in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and later the legislation. • 42. Models of Disability Models of Disability Disability is a human reality that has been perceived differently by diverse cultures and historical periods. For most of the 20th century, disability was defined according to a medical model. In the medical model, disability is assumed to be a way to characterize a particular set of largely static, functional limitations. This led to stereotyping and defining people by condition or limitations. World Health Organization (WHO) New definition of Disability In 2001, the World Health Organization (WHO) established a new definition of disability, declaring it an umbrella term with several components: * impairments: a problem in body function or structure * activity limitations: a difficulty encountered by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Medical Model Under the Medical Model, disabled people are defined by their illness or medical condition. The Medical Model regards disability as an individual problem. It promotes the view of a disabled person as dependent and needing to be cured or cared for, and justifies the way in which disabled people have been systematically excluded from society. The disabled person is the problem, not society. Control resides firmly with professionals; choices for the individual are limited to the options provided and approved by the helping expert. The Medical Model is best summarised by referring to the International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities and Handicaps developed by the World Health Organisation in 1980. The classification makes the following distinctions: Impairment is any loss or abnormality of psychological, physiological or anatomical structure or function . Disability is any restriction or lack (resulting from an impairment) of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being . Diagram of Medical Model The Medical Model focuses on what a person can t do: Impairment| Disability| A wheelchair user| cannot climb the stairs or walk to the shops| A partially sighted person| cannot read ... • 43. The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Executive Control In... In the article, the purpose of this study was to verify and compare how the effect of 10 min of aerobic exercise performed above and below lactate threshold (LT) on executive control in children. In the article, it mentions how children are becoming sedentary. That means it increase the prevalence of overweight and low physical fitness. This much inactivity affects brainhealth and some aspects of cognition. It affects the executive control. It s something to be concern about because in childhood there are some extensive changes in the brain structure, function, and connectivity. If children can have an active lifestyle it may have protective effects on brain health across the lifespan. While reading I saw that it was no studies that... Lactate Threshold in the subjects was obtained through in incremental test that was adapted from the protocol developed by SimГµes et al. It ran for 6 times 500 m at 80%, 83%, 86%, 89%, 92%, and 95% of the average running speed that was obtained during the Cooper s 12 min track test. In the last 10 secs of each 500 m run, a blood sample was taken from the earlobe and was put into Eppendorf tubes containing sodium fluoride. The concentrations from each sample was used by a blood lactate analyzer. Then the lactate threshold was found as the intensity at the breakpoint in the blood lactate concentration curve occurred. In the cognitive test the subjects did computerized modified flanker task to assess their inhibitory control. They did congruent and incongruent trials that required the subjects to press a button to the direction of the centrally presented target arrow. In the congruent trials the arrows were facing the same direction and in the incongruent trials the middle arrow is facing the opposite direction of the others. It was a total of 20 trials the arrows. They did a Free recall memory test that access the subjects declarative short memory. The subjects had a 20 item word list that was presented 1 word at a time, 5 sec each for a 100 sec. After the 100 seconds, a cue was signaled that the subjects were to write ... With the people that Pip knows back home and the new ones that he meets in London, his behavior and attitude is clearly influenced by the people that he surrounds himself with. • 45. Incurable Disease Research Paper Millions of people suffer daily from incurable diseases. The reality for a person affected by an incurable disease is that from the moment they are diagnosed and even before that back to the moment they experienced their first symptom, they will have their disease. While these diseases do not have a cure, treatments do exist to manage the symptoms. Often, the prescription drugs available to sufferers of these painful, sometimes life threatening ailments are expensive and carry side effects of their own. A remedy used for treatment of many of these symptoms and side effects, historically dating back to as early as the 2700 s B.C. has, within the last 20 years, begun its re ascent into medical potential. Cannabis was first documented in medical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first and possibly most important fact to which many people are uneducated is the idea that users of medical cannabis are getting stoned, but the reality is that scientists are capable of modifying strains of cannabis used medically to contain low amounts of the intoxicant, tetrahydrocannabiniol, more commonly known as THC, and higher amounts of cannabidiol (Coulter and Jenewein). In most cases medical cannabis is not ingested as an inhalant but instead as an orally administered oil. Another common argument against cannabis is damage caused to the hippocampus which can cause short and long term memory impairment, very real side effects that should be considered and monitored for carefully, but studies have discovered the potential to combat these issues with the use of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Welberg). While there is still much to learn about the use of cannabis medically, it should be remembered that there is still much to learn about many medical treatments and options but unlike cannabis, other treatments do not have an accompanying stereotype to ... This historic rise came about in 2005 and, since then, the pay gap has remained roughly unchanged. Women as a whole experience the gender pay gap but there is also a racial pay gap. A woman makes 77 cents for every dollar a Caucasian man makes. Last year when looking at median hourly pay, black workers earned $18.49 an hour. White workers earned an average of $25.22 an hour. Caucasian women make about 75 cents to every dollar a caucasian man makes. Asian women make an average of 85 cents to every dollar a caucasian man makes. For black, Latina, and Native women, that number is significantly lower. On average, Latina and black women who are low wage earners and work full time live below the poverty line. White men who are low wage earners and work full time live above the poverty line. According to the map from National Women s Law Center women lose $418,800 over a 40 year career. That number is more than double from latina and black women. It will take years for the gap to be resolved. In the U.S the gender wage gap is lower than it is in any country although there has not being improvements since the 1990s. However, the contribution of men to household and childcare has grown significantly in recent years, it is still far below women s contributions.
