Greetings from the Abyss. The name s Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured
thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot
entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film, to
video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences.
The title of the film roughly translates to Babbling Ghost. Babbling from fear or shock. The Gibber
Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is of diffused
chaos.
Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have
residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic
computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is
used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly for
metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found
footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years.

non slave proponents, the growth of the abolition movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln are
all events having to do with slavery in the United States that led to the start of the Civil War.

leading up to the Civil War. When the cotton gin was invented in 1793, cotton became a very
profitable crop. Before the invention of the cotton gin, it would take one slave a day to remove the
seeds from two pounds of cotton. After the invention of the cotton gin, it could be used to clean two
pounds of cotton in just half an hour. With the invention of the cotton gin came an increase in the
number of plantations willing and wanting to move from other crops to cotton. The south raised rice,
sugar, and indigo, but cotton was its main crop. This move from other crops to cotton would cause for
a greater need for a larger amount of laborers, meaning a greater need for slaves. The south, becoming

A Homemade Education By Malcom X
The Drive Successful people become motivated by something, that keeps them going when things get
tough. Malcom X wanted to improve his writing, Lupe Quintanilla wanted to learn English, and I am
motivated to receive a higher education. Drive, that is what all of these individuals have in common.
Something in our lives lead us down the path to better our education it was a tough road but being
motivated kept us going. In Malcom X s short story, A Homemade Education, it talks about how
Malcom was in prison and how he wanted to better his vocabulary and writing so he could effectively
write letters to people. One of the quotes he writes about his frustration trying to explain what he
means in his writings. I became increasingly frustrated at not being able to express what I wanted to
convey in letters that I wrote, especially those to Mr. Elijah Muhammad. In the street, I had been the
most articulate hustler out there I had commanded attention when I said something. But now, trying to
write simple English, I not only wasn t articulate, I wasn t even functional (Malcom 437). When I
decided to go back to school, I struggled with learning Algebra and I felt like I wasn t even functional.
Much like Malcom, I began trying to understand Algebra by thinking about what the problems were
and trying to work through the problems. He explained how he practiced writing repetitively from the
dictionary to learn and how he would wake up and would think about what he had learned.

Tone is very important in poetry as it plays a role in the way the characters within the poem are
portrayed, the way we perceive the writers intentions and it sets the mood when reading the poem.
