Sucrose And Fermentation
As expected, the hypothesis stated before the experiment was proven correct because the different
substrates did have an effect on the rate of fermentation in the yeast cells (Table 2). However, the
predictions of how each substrate would affect the rate of fermentation were not illustrated in the
results of this experiment. For example, before the experiment it was predicted that the substrate
glucose would produce the highest rate of fermentation, but the flask containing glucose along with
the yeast cells, flask two, had a lower rate of fermentation than two other flasks.
Despite the fact that glucose as a substrate produced less carbon dioxide than two of the other
substrates, it is important to note that it did produce more carbon ... Show more content on

Food and drink such as alcohol and bread rely on the process of alcoholic fermentation, so the most
efficient substrate is an important factor for quick production of these products (Aidoo et al., 2006).
For example, bread uses alcoholic fermentation to make the dough of the bread rise and alcohol is the
main product of alcoholic fermentation. Based on the findings of this experiment, I would suggest
using glucose before fructose as substrate for this process and sucrose before maltose based purely on
their rates of fermentation. However, further testing should be done to test the rate of fermentation
over a longer period of time as this experiment was completed after only twenty minutes of
fermentation. It would also be interesting to test other effects of the substrates such as their effect on
the taste of the products in the food industry which utilize alcoholic

John Bosco Research Paper
John Bosco came into this world on August 16, 1815 inside a cabin in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Italy.
At the age of two, his father passed away. This meant that their mother, Margaret Bosco, had to be a
leader for John and his two brothers. Margaret, like most parents, taught them various valid life
lessons. One of them included teaching them about the fear of the Lord. Margaret was an extremely
caring mother with lots of character. By her example, she showed her sons lessons in upright living.
(New Advent)
At nine years old, John was called by the Master in a dream. Within that dream, John was fighting a
crowd of men who were loudly swearing. He tried to end the nonsense but it failed. Shortly after, a

love. He spent his entirety spreading the message that it is important to open yourself to love and help

How Women s Sexuality Is Portrayed By Hip Hop Music Videos
This research paper will examine the difference in how women s sexuality is portrayed in hip hop
music videos. Are women empowered, or are they objectified when they express their sexuality? The
public image of how women move, speak, sound, look, dance, talk, dress, and act is controlled by
corporate networks who present these societal norms to people through many mediums. Dominating
how women are portrayed in music videos, men are introducing audiences to certain tropes and ideals
women are expected to live up to. This heteronormative, White male fantasy, is unrealistic for women
and creates an unhealthy obsession and expectation that females of all sizes and races are supposed to
embody. In Women in Popular Music Media Empowered or Exploited? (p.9), Jamie Glantz asks Are
women represented as the subjects of their own desires, or do they seem to be preforming as the
objects of someone else s? Men and women alike intend for women to follow these societal rules.
Audiences do not realize the messages they are being fed through hip hop music videos. The popular,

Loch Ness Monster Myths
The Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as Nessie , is known globally as the cryptozoological
lake monster that lives in Loch Ness. This freshwater lake, which is located in the Scottish Highlands,
is approximately 37 kilometres long, roughly 226 metres deep, and is supposedly home to the large
lake monster named Nessie. (Wikipedia.com/LochNess) This urban legend known as the Loch Ness
Monster has apparently been sighted several times over many hundreds of years. Almost all
descriptions of the lake monster are similar, which leads one to believe that there is definitely
something that resides in the Loch. Nessie has been described as having a giraffe like neck, two
humps on her back, a tail, and a snake like head. She was also identified ... Show more content on

Many believe that the first report appears in the Life of St. Columba by Adomnan, written in the 7th
century. It states that in 565, Saint Columba heard the story of a man who had been swimming in the
River Ness, when he was attacked by a water beast . After hearing this, the priest asked one of his
followers to go swim across the lake. The beast roared up and tried to attack the man. The priest rose
his cross and said Stop go thou no further nor touch the man which sent the beast back into the lake
indefinitely. (Searching For Nessie) In 1933, construction began very close to Loch Ness. It is
believed that the disruption and force caused by the construction forced the water beast out of the
depths and darkness of the bottom of the Loch. This report was the first published sighting of the Loch
Ness Monster. The story appeared on the paper on May 2nd 1933. Around this time, there were many
independent sightings of Nessie. (Myths and Legends) A year later, in 1934, a photo published by a
London surgeon, Kenneth Wilson, depicted a serpent like head and neck in the body of Loch Ness.
This image was thought to have been the best evidence of Nessie for many years until it was
acknowledged decades later as a hoax.

How I Formed My Leadership Philosophy
Subj: PESONAL LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
1. How I formed my leadership philosophy: throughout my career I have worked for many different
styles of leaders who all had a different style of leadership. They also had individual ways to deliver
their message; these leaders are what helped me create my personal leadership philosophy and style.
2. Situational leadership, it s the term I use to describe the style of leadership I have developed over
my career. To me this means that each individual is motivated differently and each situation may
require a different approach to reach the required goal. My first Officer in Charge in the Coast Guard
was BMCS Downey, his leadership style was that of stern but fair, trust must be earned, and if trust ...

carried it with me since: Honesty is the core of our core values. Don t lie to me, if you are honest with
the command in all situations we are able to help guide you, you may not always like the outcome but
it will be fair and we will do what we can within the regulations. Don t lie to your shipmates, if you

and bad. Don t lie to yourself, if you build yourself around the truth then you will set a true course and
will not have to defend yourself through ebbs and tides in your life.

Realist Fiction As Realistic Fiction
Genre Why:
The novel is classified as Realistic Fiction because the events of the novel could take place in real life.
Text Evidence:
On page 5, the author provides a detailed, realistic setting told by the protagonist s point of view That
summer, let s see, I m still living under the basement, my own private down under, in the little room
Grim built for me there. Glued up this cheap paneling, right? It sort of buckles away from the concrete
cellar walls, a regular ripple effect, but do I complain about the crummy paneling, or the rug that
smells like old tide? I do not. (Philbrick, 5) The readers can also infer about the character through their
dialect, and in this case, the protagonist seems to be observant of their surroundings and is mostly
likely still in school.
In a family conflict on page 89, it shows conflict seen through the protagonist s eyes. ....this shouting
starts upstairs, Understand, Grim never yells at Gram, not that I can ever remember, and Gram, well,
the worst thing she ever does is cry when she s mad. But somebody else sure is yelling up there, and
so I sneak up the stairs and I don t even have to put my ear to the door, that s how loud it is. Through
the protagonist, we see the situation realistically and vividly and how this is affects certain people.
This is described vividly that it feels like we are experiencing what the protagonist is experiencing.
2. What can you infer about the author based on the novel?

Hamlet: Seems Versus Is
Throughout the tragic play, Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, there are a multitude of characters who
seem to act one way but, below the surface, are completely different than they are portrayed. These
characters hide behind their own disguise, masking their true identities. The motif Seems Versus Is is
brought to the reader s attention in Hamlet because it shows that although people might seem to be
one way, they can be completely different on the inside. These disguises serve as obstacles for Hamlet
to overcome throughout the play.
Polonius, the chief counselor to the king, is a character who seems to be a loving, charismatic man and
father who only wants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Claudius also seems like a respectable king because he mourns the death of King Hamlet and tells
[the] whole kingdom to be contracted in one brow of woe (21). Although Claudius seems to be a good
king who is deeply saddened by the death of the late King Hamlet, he is actually a horrible man who
murdered King Hamlet in a way most foul,...strange and unnatural (57). He took his crown and acted
as if his death was an accident. Claudius makes it difficult for Hamlet to uncover the truth behind his
actions because he constantly acts like nothing is ever wrong. After many different plots against
Claudius, Hamlet prevails and the real Claudius is exposed. Claudius played an important role in the
play because he reinforced the motif Seems Versus Is and showed the reader that although people can
come across as honest and respectable, deep down they can have an evil side.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are characters in Hamlet who have a more complex side to them than
one might assume. Hamlet sees them as good friends who have always been there for him, such as
after his father s death when they came to visit [him]; no other occasion (99). Although they acted as
good friends to Hamlet, in reality they were manipulative and deceitful. The two characters had a
darker side because they acted as Claudius and Gertrude s spies. Near the end of the play, Claudius,
Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern

Porphyria s Lover Quotes
Porphyria s Lover is made out to be a madman killing Porphyria his lover by strangling her with her
long golden hair, but what if Porphyria actually had a disease that made her suffer. For all we know
this Mad Man was putting Porphyria out of her own misery. What will you believe? Was it murder or
assisted suicide? In Porphyria s Lover, this line is written The smiling rosy little head, so glad it has its
utmost will. (52 53) It s utmost will? Only you have a will for yourself. The look on Porphyria s face
once he was done strangling her was a look of calmness, not like she was in terror of just being
strangled. This symbolizes Porphyria s will to die and not that this madman her lover strangled her.
This line shows that Porphyria wanted her lover to commit this act. Another line in Porphyria s lover

How To Reduce Gun Violence In The United States
In the United States, there is a mass shooting that kills four or more people every twenty three hours.
Gun violence has risen to epidemic proportions. The United States has allowed guns to become so
easily accessible that in four out of five states anyone, even someone without a gun license, can buy
an unregistered firearm from a private vendor. It has also become incredibly easy to be approved for a
gun in most states. Currently it is more difficult to get a driver s license, even with extensive testing,
than it is to own a firearm. We, as a nation, cannot expect to progress far if we don t even moderately
control the flow of firearms that is flooding into the streets. We have the capacity to fix this and create
a safer country for everyone.
In order to improve the yearly death tolls from gun violence, we have to limit how one can even get a
gun in the first place. Currently, the country only has ten states that prohibit the sale of guns at gun
shows and through private vendors, who don t have proper licensing. Another ten states only prohibit
handgun sales, and the other thirty states have nothing. This means one can walk into a gun show with
cash and walk out the same day with a gun. If we prohibit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

whoever has purchased a gun may be inconvenienced through the process, but the reward is that guns

Compare and contrast the Red Scare and the McCarthy trials to the situation in The Crucible; contrast

Response: The Red Scare and McCarthy trials show much similarity to the situation in the Crucible.
One similarity that these both share is how the people were afraid of the courts because they held high
power. The Red Scare was a growing fear of Communism in America that became prevalent after the
World Wars. The second Red Scare was known as McCarthyism because it is an act of accusing
someone of treason or disloyalty without any evidence, this is similar to the Crucible. In the book,

I would prefer not to. Bartleby In one of the final post cards in his book, The Post Card, Jacques
Derrida provides his readers with a short philosophical discussion for your distraction, he says. It goes
like this: What is it, a destination? There where it arrives. So then everywhere that it arrives there was
a destination? Yes. But not before? No. That s convenient, since if it arrives there, it is that it was
destined to arrive there. But then one can only say so after the fact? When it has arrived, it is indeed
the proof that it had to arrive, and arrive there, at its destination. But before arriving, it is not destined,
for example it neither desires nor demands any address? There is everything that arrives where it ...

Allow me to present a slight tangent . . . an example from modern science that might prove
illuminating. Consider Heisenberg s uncertainty principle. Written one way (the Oxford English
Dictionary way) it states that certain pairs of observables (e.g. the momentum and position of a
particle, the energy and lifetime of a quantum level) cannot both be precisely and simultaneously
known, and that as one of any pair is more exactly defined, the other becomes more uncertain. In the
example of particles: as the precision of the measurement of position (momentum) increases, the
measurement of momentum (position) becomes more indeterminate. It is a struggle between
opposites. This has two implications (probably more, but we ll leave it at two): one epistemological
and one ontological. First, that there are restrictions to the amount of information that we can gather
from systems of observables, and that perhaps the methods we use to describe such systems are
insufficient. Second, that for all systems of observables any closed system there can be no definite
value for all sets of observables at the same time. For example, in the case of the particle, it is
impossible to calculate a definite value for both position and momentum simultaneously. What s this
got to do with texts? Well, what if texts behave like particles, that is, always uncertain? The

Theories Of Criminology And Criminal Behavior
In the early to mid 1800s there were a few perspectives introduced regarding how to determine which
individuals were more likely to commit criminal behavior. These perspectives were made to identify
and separate the more superior individuals from the inferior individuals. One of the first examples of
this belief was brought forth by craniometry. Craniometry is the belief that the size of a person s brain
and the skull can tell a person s superiority or inferiority in relation to certain racial groups. During
that time it was believed that the size of a person s skull directly reflected the size of a person s brain.
The larger the brain the more intelligent or superior the person was. Many of the studies done by
Craniometrists showed that people of White European descent were superior to people of other ethnic
or racial groups. These studies were deemed biased and unethical because the researcher s knew which
brains and skulls belonged to which racial groups before the measurements were taken.
During the mid to late 1800 s Cesare Lombroso based his scientific theories of criminology on Charles
Darwin s theory of natural selection. Charles Darwin suggested that humans evolved from primitive
beings and that humans later evolved based on their ability to adapt to their environment. The humans
that are unable to adapt to their environment die off or become inferior. Lombroso believed that
certain individuals or groups of people were born to commit crime. In terms of

Octopi: Why Stand Out When You Can Blend In? Aquatic species are full of interesting physiological
designs, from gills to adaptive skin, they have learned to adjust to their environment in order to have
optimal survival. When it comes to physiological adaptations, camouflage proves impressive.
Organisms from many different species utilize camouflage in order to maximize survival: owls,
geckos, fish to name a few. However, cephalopod mollusks such as an octopus utilize camouflage as
their primary defense against predators. The reliance on mimicry displays how refined and detailed the
mechanism to camouflage is, otherwise the success of the species would not be where it is today. By
utilizing visual acuity and specialized skin, octopi are able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Octopi are independent, solitary organisms found commonly in reefs and pilings. This behavior is
dictated by their need to evade predators through camouflage. If octopi lived in large groups they
would stand out more and be unable to evade predators. Similarly, octopi live in reefs and pilings
because they are able to use the corals and pilings to mimic easily. Picking a single coral attribute in a
whole reef allows endless mimicry possibilities for the octopi and increases their chances of evading a
predator. Not only does the information obtained from octopi camouflage provide information on
cephalopod behavior, this also helps explain concepts of camouflage in all organisms. Having one of
the most advanced mimicry systems, the octopus only produces three patterns, of which allow them to
survive. It is suggested that knowing this provides an insight on the very simple relationship between
prey and predator (Hanlon, et al.,

The Characteristics Of Basketball Athletes In The NBA
All great basketball players have skills, and a reason that makes them great. When people think of
professional basketball players, the first word that usually comes to mind is tall. However, that is not
always the case. There are many players that are under 6 3 and while that may sound tall to us, it is
short in the world of basketball. Surprisingly, some of the shorter players are known to be better on the
court. And they re not just known for their height... many are known for the name brands they
represent. Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, and Jordan are just a few of the brands that are promoted by
these players. All great basketball players, NBA or not, are tall. Both current and past players all have
a common trait of being tall. Lebron James 6 8 , Kevin Durant 6 10 , Jimmy Butler 6 6 . All of these
players have height, and the skills that come with it. Being tall in the NBA doesn t guarantee you are
the best players, but it does give you a significant advantage. Lebron and Kevin both have
championship rings and a numerous amount of MVP s (Most Valuable Player). These awards show
what having height and the skills that come with it This can give a huge disadvantage to the rest of the
smaller guards and forwards in the NBA. Both Kevin and Lebron developed the skills of being big
men, and once it was perfected, they developed the insane art or shooting. These two players can shoot
from anywhere, that s what makes them so dominant and un guardable. Their size only adds to the fact
that smaller players can t contest them or use their bodies against them. All great players like these
have height and the skills that come with it. All great basketball players can be short . Guards, these
are the faster, quicker, and I think more lethal players in basketball. All guards have a similar trait of
being short or shorter than most players. These short guards like Steph Curry 6 3, Damian Lillard 6 3,
and Isiah Thomas 5 9, obviously don t have the height to compete, but they do have an insane mind
set and have all of the skills to be better than anyone else. These skills are passing, shooting, and
dribbling. Guards are the most lethal players in all of the basketball leagues in my opinion. Stats

Compare And Contrast Japanese And Japanese Education
Many countries in the world view education as the key to success in life, but each country s
educational system is different in many regards. In the American educational system, students attend
school to learn the skills necessary to function in society. In the Japanese educational system, students
learn and memorize various subjects to take school examinations in the hopes of winning the
education race. The American and Japanese educational systems may seem similar but are different in
the areas of relationships and interests, educational values, and the view of importance of education.
Firstly, these educational systems are different in what type of group is the most beneficial. The

Secondly, these two systems can be differentiated by their educational values. Each country develops
it education system according to its culture and history. In America, people view learning academic
subjects and participating in extracurricular activities as their main educational priority.
Extracurriculars also make school more palatable for a whole lot of kids who otherwise find it bleak or
unsatisfying (Kronholz 11). In many American schools, students participate in a wide array of
extracurricular activities not just only to bolster their college resume but also enjoy school life. In
contrast, Japanese people think that academic achievement is very important. Both academic content
and the structure of Japanese schooling emphasize the cultivation of effort as a highly desirable
personal trait (Ellington 406). Japanese students are often told by their parents to study various subject
matter to hopefully pass their college entrance examinations. When compared with one, American
students are scoring as well like their Japanese counterparts on an international level. However, there

Stalin s Death After World War II
After World War II, Berlin had been a constant problem area in East West relations. In 1948 49 Joseph
Stalin had tried to blockade the Western sectors into submission by closing off all the land routes into
the city, which were almost a hundred miles inside Soviet occupied territory. The West surprised him
with a successful airlift that kept West Berlin supplied with sufficient essentials to survive. However,
Stalin s death prevented a wall or something similar being constructed in 1953. In 1958, his successor,
the unpredictable Nikita Khrushchev, had started threatening West Berlin s status once more. The
Soviet leader compared the Allied occupied sectors to the West s testicles. If, he joked, he wanted to

Along with the separate and much longer Inner German border (IGB), which demarcated the border
between East and West Germany, it came to symbolize a physical marker of the Iron Curtain that
separated Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War.
Most Germans experienced the building of the Wall as a devastating blow. It was not just a brutal act
in itself but also final proof, if proof were needed, that the reunification many still hoped for must
remain a distant, even an impossible, dream. There was genuine outrage in West Germany (and to
some extent in the East, though this was rapidly suppressed by the Communist secret police, the Stasi,
who carried out thousands of arrests). However, given the renewed dangers of conflict during the
previous few years, the building of the Wall, although it unleashed a brief East West showdown, was
seen from a global perspective not necessarily the catastrophe that it first appeared.
At the end of July 1961, the newly elected American President John F. Kennedy, had already ordered a
military build up to cope with possible Soviet and Warsaw Pact designs on Berlin (and by implication
West Germany). However, his actual response to the building of the Wall was downright muted.
Washington made it clear that only if the Soviets and their East German protégés tried

Enzymes are working proteins that facilitate chemical reactions without being changed in the process.
Organs of the digestive system excrete digestive juices, which contain enzymes that break the bonds

remain. Only certain fibers can be broken down by bacteria (chemical digestion). The colon s task is
mostly to reabsorb water and minerals, leaving a paste of fiber and feces for excretion (mechanical)
via rectum and anus.
3. How is the lining of the small intestine protected from acidic chyme entering from the stomach?
The pyloric valve of the lower stomach regulates the amount of chyme that exits into the small
intestine, allowing only a little at a time to exit. Also, once chyme enters the small intestine, hormonal
messengers signal the pancreas to release alkaline pancreatic juice, bicarbonate, to neutralize the
stomach acid that has reached the small intestine.
4. Where are carbohydrates stored in the body? In what form are carbohydrates stored?
Carbohydrates are stored in the liver in the form of glycogen.

Ufo Research Papers
A UFO could be described as a mysterious object floating or moving in the sky. The first UFO
sighting occured in 1947, when a businessman named Dan Wilmot claimed that he saw a group of
nine fast moving objects in the area of Mount Rainier in Washington. Dan said that the objects looked
like saucers skipping on water. In the newspaper it was wrongly stated that the objects were saucer
shaped. Although the siting and story told by Dan Wilmot seems real, nobody ever recorded it so there
was not actual proof. Because of the 1947 sighting the Air Force became involved and their were other
sightings as well. Roswell Army Air Field press release says that The Army Air Forces here today

Even though there are tons of witnesses it is still somewhat difficult to believe the wild stories told by
the citizens of New Mexico. UFO sightings have changed quite a bit since the sighting in 1947. Now
if someone was to see a UFO they would freak out and most likely contact the media as soon as
possible, but back in 1947 I m sure most people didn t know what to think when a UFO appeared in
the night skies. Most of the UFO sightings sightings now are UFO s that target more public and larger
places instead of fields or open territory. In addition to the UFO sightings there is proof as to UFO s
such as crop circles and ancient hieroglyphics. Crop circles are circular formations in fields that are
believed to be created by Aliens and their UFO s. Many ancient hieroglyphics of aliens date back to
nearly three thousand ago. Many of these unique markings are found on Temples and ceiling beams.
Many scientists now believe that crop circles are man made and that they are not created by alien
activity. Matthew Williams, the age of 42, was the first person to ever be prosecuted for the harm and
destruction of a farmers crops while he tried to create a crop

The Shawl
The Shawl Don t you think she lifted her shawl and flew? Even though people can t really fly, if one
puts their mind to it, it just might be possible to figuratively take flight. However, without putting
mind, body, and soul into it, it s completely impossible. The perception of I can do it directly
correlates with the actual act of doing the impossible. Often times one s attitudes, actions, and beliefs
are influenced by those who have raised and mentored them. In the short story, The Shawl, Louise
Erdrich declares that reality is dictated by perception and the only way to change one s reality is to
alter their perception. Aanakwad s husband, the grandfather, had a negative perception of Aanakwad,

at his father, since his father was anything but that. However, it was hard to be mad at him when he

Teenage Suicide
Teenage Suicide
Suicide is intentional self inflicted acts that end in death( Suicide,
Compton s). After a series of traumatic events, normal coping abilities can be pushed over the edge;
the result may be suicide. In each year, an average of
30,000 suicide deaths occur in the United States. It is estimated that 5,000 of those suicides are
committed by teenagers(SAVE, 2). One major reason that the suicide rate among teenagers is so high,
is that the teenage years are a period of commotion. New social roles are being learned, new
relationships are being developed, bodily changes are occurring, and decisions about the future are
being made during the teenage years. Teenagers tend to commit suicide after large changes, ... Show

The statistics of considered and completed suicide are shocking.
Ten percent of teenage boys admit that they have attempted suicide. Girls in their teens have a much
higher percentage(eighteen percent), which will admit that they unsuccessfully tried to commit
suicide. A teenager in 1990 was twice as likely to die from suicide than a teenager growing up in 1960.
One of the most startling teenage suicide facts is that since 1961, there has been a tripling of
completed teenage suicide( The Real World [Suicide: Facts], 1 3). When a teenager is able to
successfully commit suicide, they leave behind family and friends. In a normal death situation, people
usually feel grief. When a teenager performs suicide, family and friends left behind experience many
feelings. A feeling of confusion and great distress over unresolved issues is very common. Family
members and friends often feel anger and resentment after a suicide. These emotions can cause friends
and family to become very isolated feeling. A friend or family member may find that it is difficult to
relate to other people after a suicide. These people may decide that other people view them as a failure
because they were unable to stop someone close to them from committing suicide. A fear of forming
new relationships after a person has completed suicide is common. People feel that by creating new
relationships, they might be hurt and experience the same pain they are going through. In order to

The Life Of Jacqueline Jones Introduced Slavery And...
Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and
women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the
working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor
patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum
plantations, have developed over time.
There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the
minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused
with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our
society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American
working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those
African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events
such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the
North and the South.
Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations,
yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth.
The updated version reviews such advances and others in the labors and family lives of African
American women with a more critical perspective and understanding.

Persuasive Essay On Abolish Holidays
Every year as Halloween comes to an end, the Christmas decorations start to appear in the stores, the
commercials appear on the television, and the hussle and bussle slowly begins to happen. The same
thing happens with Easter. As Valentine s Day comes to a close the Easter candy comes out, the
decorations come out, and the Spring clothing ads appear. What really is all of this stuff besides just
stuff? Does any of it mean anything? Stores are not bringing out nativity scenes and crucifixes; they
are bringing out candies, christmas trees, Santas, easter eggs, and Easter Bunnies. These are all
materialistic items. The holidays are supposed to reflect much more than any materialistic item could

This is truly disappointing for many reasons. People are not celebrating these holidays for what they
are to be celebrated for. Today, they have become all about the gifts, decorations, and food. Today,
kids will throw a fit because they did not get the gifts that they wanted. When in reality these holidays
are not even supposed to be about the gifts. On the other hand, there are 17.4 million families that
struggle to put food on the table and pay the bills (Malter). These parents do not want their children to
feel left out next to the other kids whose parents make a lot of money. Parents who struggle have to
find ways to make more money so their children can celebrate the holidays with gifts just like the rest
of society. This is unfair to the 14% of families who feel they have to get their children gifts for these
holidays because that is what is expected (Malter). If the holidays were celebrated the way they are
supposed to be, which is just with the company of family and friends, these families would not have to
worry about how they are going to make their children happy on Christmas or Easter. For the families
that do not have to worry about money but have the children that are greedy and ungrateful for their
gifts, they would not have to worry about making their children happy

The Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On The Food...
Humans are born with the natural tendency to aid one another through mediums such as being
proactive on social as well as ethical issues. When one compares this natural tendency to the industries
of today, one see s this voluntary behaviour in a deliberate and compelled act by most involved, which
is truly known as Corporate Social Responsibility. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is known to
be the voluntary model that is not only used by many businesses, but industries themselves to self
regulate their active compliance with the law, ethical standards within their respective sectors
alongside achieving their economical success. CSR initiatives may contain consumer s welfare and
providing them with true knowledge of products, animal welfare, employees welfare as well as
reducing environmental impacts. Today, many businesses involved and those who directly fall under
the food industry lack the voluntary act to carry out CSR initiatives and this can be seen through
consumers behaviour and attitudes, animal welfare as well as environmental impacts.
Firstly, the lack of CSR initiatives in the food industry today, can be seen through the behaviour and
attitude of its consumers. Many consumers have shifted from the traditional blindfold purchasing at
the supermarket to making valid and reasonable choices. For instance, a large corporation like Nestlé
is currently under the heat due to its irresistible chocolate bars. This is due to the prevalence of

Analysis Of The Film Gibber Eidolon
Greetings from the Abyss. The name s Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured
thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot
entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film, to
video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences.
The title of the film roughly translates to Babbling Ghost. Babbling from fear or shock. The Gibber
Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is of diffused
chaos.
Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have
residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic
computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is
used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly for
metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found
footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years.
This movie is first and foremost diaristic. It contains my life: the places I ve been and the way I ve
responded to them, and the ideas I ve had along the way. It is a work of spirit.
The film also is a collaboration between myself and my dear friend Matthew Bambas, who I ve been

The American Revolution And The Indian War
The American Revolution took place in 1754 1781. The revolution was marked by the beginning of
the French and the Indian war. This war primarily took place in America. The war involved France
and Britain. They were fighting for colonial supremacy in the American North. The colonizers that
were mostly the British officials who sought the opinions of the general public. This was led to the
war in 1754 at the Albany Congress. The American s fought together with the British while the French
joined forces with the different Native tribe. This revolution is referred to as the French and Indian
War. The British ended the French Indian War that lasted for seven years (1754 1763) by capturing
Canadian key forts and France key cities in Ohio Valley. During the Pontiac s Uprising, Pontiac was
the chief of Ottawa. Pontiac led native tribes to join together and raided American settlements and
British forts in Ohio Valley. These raids were signs of the tribes rebelling against foreigners, who were
stealing tribal lands. The British forces were powerful, and the Pontiac s rallies were subdued. George
Grenville s solution was a proclamation, issued in 1763, temporarily banning all colonial settlement
west of the Appalachian Mountains (Berkin 2014). The Proclamation Line of 1763 was the boundary
that Britain established in the Appalachian Mountains, west of which white settlement was banned; it
was intended to reduce conflict between Indians and colonists (Belkin 2014).

Research Paper On The Moonstone
The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins does not follow a traditional marriage driven plot. Although The
Moonstone s plot is not centered on marriage, it becomes essential to the story.
Introduce the characters and the aim of the essay
Without Franklin s drive to get Rachel back, the matter of the stolen moonstone would have been put
to rest. This shows that even though The Moonstone is a mystery novel, marriage plays an essential
role in enhancing the plot. The novel looks at various couples and though it ends with the marriage of
Franklin and Rachel, it does not suggest that all marriages end happily. Collins is known for
developing his ideas about marriage in his writing, including novels such as The Moonstone, The
Woman in White, and many other works. There are things within The Moonstone that both contradict
and support Collins ideas and views on marriage. Collins used his novels as a platform to express his
feeling towards Victorian marriage laws, unmarried woman, and ideas on marriage as a whole.
Marriage plays a crucial role in Wilkie Collins The Moonstone. Collins quickly introduces the idea of

Ilm
Introduction
The goal of the Change Management process is to ensure that standardised methods and procedures
are used for efficient and prompt handling of all Changes, in order to minimise the impact of Change
related Incidents upon service quality, and consequently to improve the day to day operations of the
organisation.
In this report I have outline EMC s main reasons for implementing the Information lifecycle
management (ILM) project, the problems associated with implementing the project and possible ways
to overcome these issues.
In the main body of the report I will give an account of the years leading up to the implementation of
the ILM project. This is an important factor as the industry was in a recession at the time and ... Show

Before the downturn EMC was capable of making million dollar deals, after the downturn the market
for such deals simply did not exist. While certain surveys show IT spending growing, I believe most
companies will be extremely cautious in increasing their IT spending during 2003, I do believe there s
a bias toward the positive, but no one s willing to commit to increased spending before they see how
the year develops.
The larger companies in the market where not prepared to make such big deals at that time, so EMC
targeted the smaller companies in the market. Two important factors to consider when selecting a
target market segment are the attractiveness of the segment and the fit between the segment and the
firm s objectives, resources, and capabilities.
EMC still expects to invest $1 billion in research and development during 2001, and is investing
heavily in its internal information technology infrastructure and looking for areas where it can build
talent in several strategic areas.
Due to the steps taken above, EMC was perfectly placed to progress in the market. They had built a
sold base during the dot com shakeout without neglecting key resources such are R D, this was the
best decision made by top management during the shake out years. Although money was tight, top
management knew the importance of R D if were to grow into the future. This decision has aided
EMC s move to ILM a great deal.

The Events That Caused The Civil War
The Events That Caused the Civil War
One could argue that the true causes of the Civil War were states rights and taxations. Although this
played a large part in the start of the Civil War, slavery was the ultimate factor that led to this event in
history. Economic and social differences between the north and the south, fights between slave and
non slave proponents, the growth of the abolition movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln are
all events having to do with slavery in the United States that led to the start of the Civil War.
Economic and social differences between the north and the south was one of the events of slavery
leading up to the Civil War. When the cotton gin was invented in 1793, cotton became a very
profitable crop. Before the invention of the cotton gin, it would take one slave a day to remove the
seeds from two pounds of cotton. After the invention of the cotton gin, it could be used to clean two
pounds of cotton in just half an hour. With the invention of the cotton gin came an increase in the
number of plantations willing and wanting to move from other crops to cotton. The south raised rice,
sugar, and indigo, but cotton was its main crop. This move from other crops to cotton would cause for
a greater need for a larger amount of laborers, meaning a greater need for slaves. The south, becoming
a one crop economy, then became more dependent on cotton, thus more dependent on slaves. The
north, on the other hand, was less focused on crops and

A Homemade Education By Malcom X
The Drive Successful people become motivated by something, that keeps them going when things get
tough. Malcom X wanted to improve his writing, Lupe Quintanilla wanted to learn English, and I am
motivated to receive a higher education. Drive, that is what all of these individuals have in common.
Something in our lives lead us down the path to better our education it was a tough road but being
motivated kept us going. In Malcom X s short story, A Homemade Education, it talks about how
Malcom was in prison and how he wanted to better his vocabulary and writing so he could effectively
write letters to people. One of the quotes he writes about his frustration trying to explain what he
means in his writings. I became increasingly frustrated at not being able to express what I wanted to
convey in letters that I wrote, especially those to Mr. Elijah Muhammad. In the street, I had been the
most articulate hustler out there I had commanded attention when I said something. But now, trying to
write simple English, I not only wasn t articulate, I wasn t even functional (Malcom 437). When I
decided to go back to school, I struggled with learning Algebra and I felt like I wasn t even functional.
Much like Malcom, I began trying to understand Algebra by thinking about what the problems were
and trying to work through the problems. He explained how he practiced writing repetitively from the

Themes In Scott Westerfeld s Uglies And The Third And...
Imagine if an individual conquering his/her largest challenge presents one with an incredible reward.
Surprisingly, this idea is shared between three uncommon literature works. Within Scott Westerfeld s
Uglies, the main character, Tally Youngblood, triumphed through an exhausting and tough journey to a
place that leads her to learn about self worth. Furthermore, The Third and Final Continent describes
the narrator, Jhumpa Lahiri s, adventure of his life through three continents and poor living conditions
during that time resulting in Jhumpa Lahiri finally finding a value in life. In Rudyard Kipling s poem,

obstacles and being honored with a sentimental reward, is conveyed through plot, cause and effect,

How do the Poets Explore the Theme of Death in Educating...
Tone is very important in poetry as it plays a role in the way the characters within the poem are
portrayed, the way we perceive the writers intentions and it sets the mood when reading the poem.
This can clearly be seen with mother in a refugee camp as the poem overall has a very hopeless and
harsh tone and this can be seen when the narrator of the poem say, She soon would have to forget in
the context that the death of the child is inevitable and they are hopeless as they cannot defy destiny.
This is also harsh as the poet does not cover up death with euphemisms but is very straight forward

with Remember the tone develops as you go through the poem and it goes from a commanding tone to
one that is accepting towards the end and this can be seen when Christina Rossetti says, Better by far
you should forget and smile than that you should remember and be sad. This shows us that the
character actually cares about the feelings of the person that loves her as she would rather that they
forget and be happy than for them to remember and be sad. This development of tone comes as a
natural due to the fact that the nature of the poem is a sonnet. Sonnets tend to convey a problem in the
first octave and find the solution to that problem in the last sestet and this can clearly be seen in
remember as she is telling them to remember but then she realizes that she cannot hold on to them
forever and actually sets them free. As for E for L the poem on a whole is provocative and angry and
this can be seen with multiple and ruthless acts of murder that he commits with no mercy at all. These
include I squash flies against the window and I pour the gold fish down the bog these acts of murder
emphasize how dangerous, psychotic and deluded this person really is. They also highlight

Overcoming the Challenge of Tobacco Use
Introduction
Today one of our biggest challenges as public health professionals is tobacco use which is a leading
cause of deaths that be prevented with public health campaign intervention programs. According to the
American Lung Association (2010), 6.4 million current child smokers will die a premature death from
a smoking related disease. The campaign is working to give teenagers information on understanding
the health risks associated with smoking and long term health risk when they become adults. By using
the support of different models on behavior following we can gain a better understanding on how and
why adolescents respond the way they do to smoking. It is important that a campaign on tobacco and
nicotine emphasizes awareness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The message should not send out mixed signals as we create the information of the end product. In
order to ensure that this happens the information has to be readily available for all stakeholders
involved in this process.
Adolescents are becoming frequent users of the World Wide Web for social media networks
subsequently, they do not frequent the web for information regarding tobacco cessation intervention
programs. The added bonus to this public health campaign is how social media on frequented by
adolescents such as Facebook and Twitter will provide educational literature in more of a new and
exciting way. Resnick and Siegle (2013) notes the use of media allows marketers to disseminate
information instantly, reaching broader audience, therefore increasing public engagement . By using
this approach, Mermelstein (2003), explains how the Internet can create social support networks of
teen quitters chat rooms that will facilitate initial cessation enhancing long term abstinence. Based on
the assessment by Mermelstein, I have to agree that a social support network will be accepted without
any challenges or barriers. The educational literature will also come paper based as noted by Walker
(2014) in the form of pamphlets, poster boards, and flyers . In her previous assignment Walker (2014)
notes the advantages and drawbacks of all youth and teenagers may be without computer access. We
want to build a community program

  • 2. Sucrose And Fermentation As expected, the hypothesis stated before the experiment was proven correct because the different substrates did have an effect on the rate of fermentation in the yeast cells (Table 2). However, the predictions of how each substrate would affect the rate of fermentation were not illustrated in the results of this experiment. For example, before the experiment it was predicted that the substrate glucose would produce the highest rate of fermentation, but the flask containing glucose along with the yeast cells, flask two, had a lower rate of fermentation than two other flasks. Despite the fact that glucose as a substrate produced less carbon dioxide than two of the other substrates, it is important to note that it did produce more carbon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food and drink such as alcohol and bread rely on the process of alcoholic fermentation, so the most efficient substrate is an important factor for quick production of these products (Aidoo et al., 2006). For example, bread uses alcoholic fermentation to make the dough of the bread rise and alcohol is the main product of alcoholic fermentation. Based on the findings of this experiment, I would suggest using glucose before fructose as substrate for this process and sucrose before maltose based purely on their rates of fermentation. However, further testing should be done to test the rate of fermentation over a longer period of time as this experiment was completed after only twenty minutes of fermentation. It would also be interesting to test other effects of the substrates such as their effect on the taste of the products in the food industry which utilize alcoholic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. John Bosco Research Paper John Bosco came into this world on August 16, 1815 inside a cabin in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Italy. At the age of two, his father passed away. This meant that their mother, Margaret Bosco, had to be a leader for John and his two brothers. Margaret, like most parents, taught them various valid life lessons. One of them included teaching them about the fear of the Lord. Margaret was an extremely caring mother with lots of character. By her example, she showed her sons lessons in upright living. (New Advent) At nine years old, John was called by the Master in a dream. Within that dream, John was fighting a crowd of men who were loudly swearing. He tried to end the nonsense but it failed. Shortly after, a man showed up and said Not with blows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. How Women s Sexuality Is Portrayed By Hip Hop Music Videos This research paper will examine the difference in how women s sexuality is portrayed in hip hop music videos. Are women empowered, or are they objectified when they express their sexuality? The public image of how women move, speak, sound, look, dance, talk, dress, and act is controlled by corporate networks who present these societal norms to people through many mediums. Dominating how women are portrayed in music videos, men are introducing audiences to certain tropes and ideals women are expected to live up to. This heteronormative, White male fantasy, is unrealistic for women and creates an unhealthy obsession and expectation that females of all sizes and races are supposed to embody. In Women in Popular Music Media Empowered or Exploited? (p.9), Jamie Glantz asks Are women represented as the subjects of their own desires, or do they seem to be preforming as the objects of someone else s? Men and women alike intend for women to follow these societal rules. Audiences do not realize the messages they are being fed through hip hop music videos. The popular, male vocalized, music video for the summer hit of 2013 Blurred Lines, which appeared to be a lighthearted video of Robin Thicke and Pharell dancing with women wearing swimsuits. The male performers make faces at the camera and one another, while the women wear clunky shoes and nothing else. This freshwater lake, which is located in the Scottish Highlands, is approximately 37 kilometres long, roughly 226 metres deep, and is supposedly home to the large lake monster named Nessie. (Wikipedia.com/LochNess) This urban legend known as the Loch Ness Monster has apparently been sighted several times over many hundreds of years. Almost all descriptions of the lake monster are similar, which leads one to believe that there is definitely something that resides in the Loch. Nessie has been described as having a giraffe like neck, two humps on her back, a tail, and a snake like head. She was also identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many believe that the first report appears in the Life of St. Columba by Adomnan, written in the 7th century. It states that in 565, Saint Columba heard the story of a man who had been swimming in the River Ness, when he was attacked by a water beast . After hearing this, the priest asked one of his followers to go swim across the lake. The beast roared up and tried to attack the man. The priest rose his cross and said Stop go thou no further nor touch the man which sent the beast back into the lake indefinitely. (Searching For Nessie) In 1933, construction began very close to Loch Ness. It is believed that the disruption and force caused by the construction forced the water beast out of the depths and darkness of the bottom of the Loch. This report was the first published sighting of the Loch Ness Monster. The story appeared on the paper on May 2nd 1933. Around this time, there were many independent sightings of Nessie. (Myths and Legends) A year later, in 1934, a photo published by a London surgeon, Kenneth Wilson, depicted a serpent like head and neck in the body of Loch Ness. How I formed my leadership philosophy: throughout my career I have worked for many different styles of leaders who all had a different style of leadership. They also had individual ways to deliver their message; these leaders are what helped me create my personal leadership philosophy and style. 2. Situational leadership, it s the term I use to describe the style of leadership I have developed over my career. To me this means that each individual is motivated differently and each situation may require a different approach to reach the required goal. Text Evidence: On page 5, the author provides a detailed, realistic setting told by the protagonist s point of view That summer, let s see, I m still living under the basement, my own private down under, in the little room Grim built for me there. Glued up this cheap paneling, right? It sort of buckles away from the concrete cellar walls, a regular ripple effect, but do I complain about the crummy paneling, or the rug that smells like old tide? I do not. • 10. How To Reduce Gun Violence In The United States In the United States, there is a mass shooting that kills four or more people every twenty three hours. Gun violence has risen to epidemic proportions. The United States has allowed guns to become so easily accessible that in four out of five states anyone, even someone without a gun license, can buy an unregistered firearm from a private vendor. It has also become incredibly easy to be approved for a gun in most states. Currently it is more difficult to get a driver s license, even with extensive testing, than it is to own a firearm. We, as a nation, cannot expect to progress far if we don t even moderately control the flow of firearms that is flooding into the streets. We have the capacity to fix this and create a safer country for everyone. In order to improve the yearly death tolls from gun violence, we have to limit how one can even get a gun in the first place. Currently, the country only has ten states that prohibit the sale of guns at gun shows and through private vendors, who don t have proper licensing. Another ten states only prohibit handgun sales, and the other thirty states have nothing. This means one can walk into a gun show with cash and walk out the same day with a gun. If we prohibit ... No. That s convenient, since if it arrives there, it is that it was destined to arrive there. But then one can only say so after the fact? Allow me to present a slight tangent . . . an example from modern science that might prove illuminating. Consider Heisenberg s uncertainty principle. Written one way (the Oxford English Dictionary way) it states that certain pairs of observables (e.g. the momentum and position of a particle, the energy and lifetime of a quantum level) cannot both be precisely and simultaneously known, and that as one of any pair is more exactly defined, the other becomes more uncertain. In the example of particles: as the precision of the measurement of position (momentum) increases, the measurement of momentum (position) becomes more indeterminate. It is a struggle between opposites. This has two implications (probably more, but we ll leave it at two): one epistemological and one ontological. First, that there are restrictions to the amount of information that we can gather from systems of observables, and that perhaps the methods we use to describe such systems are insufficient. Second, that for all systems of observables any closed system there can be no definite value for all sets of observables at the same time. For example, in the case of the particle, it is impossible to calculate a definite value for both position and momentum simultaneously. What s this got to do with texts? • 15. Theories Of Criminology And Criminal Behavior In the early to mid 1800s there were a few perspectives introduced regarding how to determine which individuals were more likely to commit criminal behavior. These perspectives were made to identify and separate the more superior individuals from the inferior individuals. One of the first examples of this belief was brought forth by craniometry. Craniometry is the belief that the size of a person s brain and the skull can tell a person s superiority or inferiority in relation to certain racial groups. During that time it was believed that the size of a person s skull directly reflected the size of a person s brain. The larger the brain the more intelligent or superior the person was. Many of the studies done by Craniometrists showed that people of White European descent were superior to people of other ethnic or racial groups. These studies were deemed biased and unethical because the researcher s knew which brains and skulls belonged to which racial groups before the measurements were taken. During the mid to late 1800 s Cesare Lombroso based his scientific theories of criminology on Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection. Charles Darwin suggested that humans evolved from primitive beings and that humans later evolved based on their ability to adapt to their environment. The humans that are unable to adapt to their environment die off or become inferior. Lombroso believed that certain individuals or groups of people were born to commit crime. In terms of ... Picking a single coral attribute in a whole reef allows endless mimicry possibilities for the octopi and increases their chances of evading a predator. Not only does the information obtained from octopi camouflage provide information on cephalopod behavior, this also helps explain concepts of camouflage in all organisms. When people think of professional basketball players, the first word that usually comes to mind is tall. However, that is not always the case. There are many players that are under 6 3 and while that may sound tall to us, it is short in the world of basketball. Surprisingly, some of the shorter players are known to be better on the court. And they re not just known for their height... many are known for the name brands they represent. Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, and Jordan are just a few of the brands that are promoted by these players. All great basketball players, NBA or not, are tall. Both current and past players all have a common trait of being tall. Lebron James 6 8 , Kevin Durant 6 10 , Jimmy Butler 6 6 . All of these players have height, and the skills that come with it. Being tall in the NBA doesn t guarantee you are the best players, but it does give you a significant advantage. Lebron and Kevin both have championship rings and a numerous amount of MVP s (Most Valuable Player). These awards show what having height and the skills that come with it This can give a huge disadvantage to the rest of the smaller guards and forwards in the NBA. Both Kevin and Lebron developed the skills of being big men, and once it was perfected, they developed the insane art or shooting. These two players can shoot from anywhere, that s what makes them so dominant and un guardable. Their size only adds to the fact that smaller players can t contest them or use their bodies against them. All great players like these have height and the skills that come with it. Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum plantations, have developed over time. There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the North and the South. Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations, yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth. The updated version reviews such advances and others in the labors and family lives of African American women with a more critical perspective and understanding. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Persuasive Essay On Abolish Holidays Every year as Halloween comes to an end, the Christmas decorations start to appear in the stores, the commercials appear on the television, and the hussle and bussle slowly begins to happen. The same thing happens with Easter. As Valentine s Day comes to a close the Easter candy comes out, the decorations come out, and the Spring clothing ads appear. What really is all of this stuff besides just stuff? Does any of it mean anything? Stores are not bringing out nativity scenes and crucifixes; they are bringing out candies, christmas trees, Santas, easter eggs, and Easter Bunnies. These are all materialistic items. The holidays are supposed to reflect much more than any materialistic item could ever reflect. They are both supposed to be centered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is truly disappointing for many reasons. People are not celebrating these holidays for what they are to be celebrated for. Today, they have become all about the gifts, decorations, and food. Today, kids will throw a fit because they did not get the gifts that they wanted. When in reality these holidays are not even supposed to be about the gifts. On the other hand, there are 17.4 million families that struggle to put food on the table and pay the bills (Malter). These parents do not want their children to feel left out next to the other kids whose parents make a lot of money. Parents who struggle have to find ways to make more money so their children can celebrate the holidays with gifts just like the rest of society. This is unfair to the 14% of families who feel they have to get their children gifts for these holidays because that is what is expected (Malter). If the holidays were celebrated the way they are supposed to be, which is just with the company of family and friends, these families would not have to worry about how they are going to make their children happy on Christmas or Easter. • 27. The Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On The Food... Humans are born with the natural tendency to aid one another through mediums such as being proactive on social as well as ethical issues. When one compares this natural tendency to the industries of today, one see s this voluntary behaviour in a deliberate and compelled act by most involved, which is truly known as Corporate Social Responsibility. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is known to be the voluntary model that is not only used by many businesses, but industries themselves to self regulate their active compliance with the law, ethical standards within their respective sectors alongside achieving their economical success. CSR initiatives may contain consumer s welfare and providing them with true knowledge of products, animal welfare, employees welfare as well as reducing environmental impacts. Today, many businesses involved and those who directly fall under the food industry lack the voluntary act to carry out CSR initiatives and this can be seen through consumers behaviour and attitudes, animal welfare as well as environmental impacts. Firstly, the lack of CSR initiatives in the food industry today, can be seen through the behaviour and attitude of its consumers. Many consumers have shifted from the traditional blindfold purchasing at the supermarket to making valid and reasonable choices. For instance, a large corporation like Nestlé is currently under the heat due to its irresistible chocolate bars. This is due to the prevalence of statistics, facts as ... • 28. Analysis Of The Film Gibber Eidolon Greetings from the Abyss. The name s Charles Chadwick, and for the last 7 years I have poured thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor into my film Gibber Eidolon. The film is shot entirely on black and white Super8 film, and uses a myriad of techniques. From hand painted film, to video generation loss, to hand processing, to found footage and traditionally shot sequences. The title of the film roughly translates to Babbling Ghost. Babbling from fear or shock. The Gibber Eidolon is a being that is not quite there because it is suffused with terror. Its perspective is of diffused chaos. Concretely, the film is a tour of various San Francisco Bay Area graveyards; almost all of them have residents going back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Also, the film contains live footage of historic computer technology, both operational and not. Found footage/archival footage in this same vein is used as well, in addition to appropriated visual material whose subject matter differs...used mainly for metaphoric illustration. The work contains footage shot over the last 15 years, as well as found footage acquired over a period of roughly 13 years. This movie is first and foremost diaristic. It contains my life: the places I ve been and the way I ve responded to them, and the ideas I ve had along the way. It is a work of spirit. The British ended the French Indian War that lasted for seven years (1754 1763) by capturing Canadian key forts and France key cities in Ohio Valley. During the Pontiac s Uprising, Pontiac was the chief of Ottawa. Pontiac led native tribes to join together and raided American settlements and British forts in Ohio Valley. These raids were signs of the tribes rebelling against foreigners, who were stealing tribal lands. The British forces were powerful, and the Pontiac s rallies were subdued. George Grenville s solution was a proclamation, issued in 1763, temporarily banning all colonial settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains (Berkin 2014). The larger companies in the market where not prepared to make such big deals at that time, so EMC targeted the smaller companies in the market. Two important factors to consider when selecting a target market segment are the attractiveness of the segment and the fit between the segment and the firm s objectives, resources, and capabilities. EMC still expects to invest $1 billion in research and development during 2001, and is investing heavily in its internal information technology infrastructure and looking for areas where it can build talent in several strategic areas. • 37. The Events That Caused The Civil War The Events That Caused the Civil War One could argue that the true causes of the Civil War were states rights and taxations. Although this played a large part in the start of the Civil War, slavery was the ultimate factor that led to this event in history. Economic and social differences between the north and the south, fights between slave and non slave proponents, the growth of the abolition movement, and the election of Abraham Lincoln are all events having to do with slavery in the United States that led to the start of the Civil War. Economic and social differences between the north and the south was one of the events of slavery leading up to the Civil War. When the cotton gin was invented in 1793, cotton became a very profitable crop. Before the invention of the cotton gin, it would take one slave a day to remove the seeds from two pounds of cotton. After the invention of the cotton gin, it could be used to clean two pounds of cotton in just half an hour. With the invention of the cotton gin came an increase in the number of plantations willing and wanting to move from other crops to cotton. The south raised rice, sugar, and indigo, but cotton was its main crop. This move from other crops to cotton would cause for a greater need for a larger amount of laborers, meaning a greater need for slaves. The south, becoming a one crop economy, then became more dependent on cotton, thus more dependent on slaves. The north, on the other hand, was less focused on crops and ... I became increasingly frustrated at not being able to express what I wanted to convey in letters that I wrote, especially those to Mr. Elijah Muhammad. • 40. How do the Poets Explore the Theme of Death in Educating... Tone is very important in poetry as it plays a role in the way the characters within the poem are portrayed, the way we perceive the writers intentions and it sets the mood when reading the poem. This can clearly be seen with mother in a refugee camp as the poem overall has a very hopeless and harsh tone and this can be seen when the narrator of the poem say, She soon would have to forget in the context that the death of the child is inevitable and they are hopeless as they cannot defy destiny. This is also harsh as the poet does not cover up death with euphemisms but is very straight forward saying that there is no other choice other than to forget. The pleading tone can be seen in the poem when Dylan Thomas says, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. This comes as plea to his dad to fight death and not give in and this also emphasizes Dylan Thomas s desperation for his father to wake up and not give in. On the other hand with Remember the tone develops as you go through the poem and it goes from a commanding tone to one that is accepting towards the end and this can be seen when Christina Rossetti says, Better by far you should forget and smile than that you should remember and be sad. This shows us that the character actually cares about the feelings of the person that loves her as she would rather that they forget and be happy than for them to remember and be sad. This development of tone comes as a natural due to the fact that the nature of the poem is a sonnet. Sonnets tend to convey a problem in the first octave and find the solution to that problem in the last sestet and this can clearly be seen in remember as she is telling them to remember but then she realizes that she cannot hold on to them forever and actually sets them free. As for E for L the poem on a whole is provocative and angry and this can be seen with multiple and ruthless acts of murder that he commits with no mercy at all.
