The document summarizes initial ideas and research for an audio story project. The author has researched several ghost stories as potential starting points, finding the story of "Fresh Phantoms" most useful for inspiration. They feel a drama/horror format fits best as they are familiar with the genre. The author has chosen to base their project partly on the "Scream" movie franchise and the York ghost story "Fresh Phantoms." They propose a title of "Doom" and outlined ideas for narration, sound effects, and storytelling. While overall confident, they feel more research is needed on conveying atmosphere and replicating horror movie sounds.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. Initial Responses and Idea Generation
Log your initial thoughts regarding the set brief in this document
What stories could you use? How do you feel about the different potential
formats? What are the positives about this project? What could be some difficult
aspects? Etc
Use the format on this document to guide this response – some are set as a
question on one slide, but you should look to add further slides as necessary
3. Which stories have you researched and looked
as potential starting points?
• I researched quite a few different ghost stories including Stick man,
The flying book, Headless coachmen, Roaming wraith and Fresh
phantoms.
4. Which research into existing products has been the
most useful? Includes examples and explanations
• I think the research I did on fresh phantoms was probably the most useful
as I like the story a lot and will be taking inspiration from it and including
some details from it into my own work.
5. Which production format [drama, narration,
etc] do you feel fits your idea best and why?
• Drama/horror as i am already quite familiar with that genre so I can use all
of te knowledge I have on it to make the product the best it can possibly
be. I also feel like the sounds of a slasher horror movie will be pretty easy
to do and I already have some props that will replicate some of the
sounds.
6. Which story have you settled on and why?
• I have chosen to base part of my project on the movie franchise 'scream' and another part of my
project will take inspiration from the York ghost story called fresh phantoms. I've chosen to do
this because I liked aspects of both stories and feel like they can work really well together.
7. If you had to sell your story quickly, what is the
title and the logline?
• Title- Doom
• Logline- One friend sacrifices himself, one friend seeks revenge and finds
himself taking on the role of the villain in order to
8. What ideas have you had for sound effects,
narration and storytelling?
• I'm thinking of doing some narration as it will be easier to portray the story
and what is taking place with someone narrating. As for sound effects I'm
going to incorporate some iconic horror sound effects like a knife slash,
screams, blood splat sound effects and others.
9. Initial feelings…how do you feel about the
project currently?
I feel like the ideas I've got so far are pretty good and I'm confident that the
final product will come together pretty well. The only thing I'm a bit unsure
off is the title, I feel like I could think of a better one with more relevance to
the narrative, other than that I'm pretty happy with the ideas I've come up
with.
10. What other research do you think you need to
do?
I think I need to do a bit more research on how to convey a certain feeling
through audio, for example creating a sinister and uncomfortable
atmosphere through sound alone. since my story is going to be horror based
knowing how to do this will make my final product much better. I will also
need to do some research on how to replicate certain sounds from horror
movies and what props I will need to use.
Editor's Notes
Think about creative and technical elements, it could be you like the idea of evoking a sense of place or you have the perfect person in mind as a narrator? Or are you keen to start writing a story and take it from there? Ideas and development are personal, try and get across where your idea is and what has got you to that point.
Add as many slides as needed from the work you did on Urban Legends, York Ghost stories and other inspirations you have considered. Which story have you gravitated toward and why?
Think about why this idea rather than any other…is it because it has the best scope for sfx, narration, etc. Reasons can be personal, but you need explain them.
A logline is a one sentence description or summary of the audio story. Loglines distill the important elements of your script/story—main character, setup, central conflict, antagonist—into a clear, concise teaser. The goal is to write a logline so enticing that it hooks the listener into your idea
Think about creative and technical elements here, it could be you like the idea of evoking a sense of place or you have the perfect person in mind as a narrator? Consider pros and cons here, what are you excited about, what is a worry…
This could be audio recording, post-production, getting cast/narrator, etc…it might be just organising your idea into a workable project…
