Audio Story
Task 2: Initial Responses
Initial Responses and Idea Generation
Log your initial thoughts regarding the set brief in this document
What stories could you use? How do you feel about the different potential
formats? What are the positives about this project? What could be some difficult
aspects? Etc
Use the format on this document to guide this response – some are set as a
question on one slide, but you should look to add further slides as necessary
If you had to sell your story quickly, what is the
title and the logline?
• You always see the building, but never did you know about the horrors
inside...
Which research into existing products has been the
most useful? Includes examples and explanations
• Looking at different soundscapes on YouTube helped as it gave me ideas for
what sounds I can include in my audio. I looked at different horror audios
and it gave me ideas of what sounded good.
• I listened to this video and it gave me a good idea of what horror audio
sounds like and what sort of sounds I should look to include.
• I also listened to a doctor who audio to give me an idea how interactions
are shown in audio and gave me some of ideas of how to use imagery tin
the audio.

Which production format [drama, narration,
etc] do you feel fits your idea best and why?
• I think that my audio will be drama, horror with a mix of someone
narrating and the character speaking throughout the audio. I an going in
this direction as I want to make a story which is creepy and has perspective
from the outside as well as the main protagonist. I want to make
something that is interesting to listen to as well enticing and a story which
the listener will enjoy. I think that having a narration-based story may be
the best way for me to go though.
Which story have you settled on and why?
• My story is going to be about a abandoned building where you will be
spoken to by the narrator as if you were going through the building. The
narration is going to be the main focus of the story as that will set the tone
and the immersion throughout. The story follows you through the different
areas of the house and what you see inside, describing to you what you can
see and hear with the use of speech and sound effects.
What ideas have you had for sound effects,
narration and storytelling?
• I am going to have different sound effects throughout to go along with
something happening in the certain part of the story. Throughout the story
I will have someone narrating. Throughout the story there will be things
happening that the narrator says, which will have sound effects added in
the background at that certain time, eg someone screaming, a creaking
floor. I will also have things like trees swishing to add to the immersion.
Initial feelings…how do you feel about the
project currently?
• Pros:
• I have a solid idea for my story that I think will work
• I have a good idea of what sound effects to add throughout
• I have done good research and have a good idea how most audios are
• Cons:
• Inexperienced with audio
• Might not have the best voice acting/narrating
• Story might not be the best
What other research do you think you need to
do?
• I could do some research into the recording process and into post-
production after I have recorded. This will help me when it comes to
developing the audio into a good enough project.

Editor's Notes

  • #3 Think about creative and technical elements, it could be you like the idea of evoking a sense of place or you have the perfect person in mind as a narrator? Or are you keen to start writing a story and take it from there? Ideas and development are personal, try and get across where your idea is and what has got you to that point.
  • #4 A logline is a one sentence description or summary of the audio story. Loglines distill the important elements of your script/story—main character, setup, central conflict, antagonist—into a clear, concise teaser. The goal is to write a logline so enticing that it hooks the listener into your idea
  • #7 Think about why this idea rather than any other…is it because it has the best scope for sfx, narration, etc. Reasons can be personal, but you need explain them.
  • #8 Think about creative and technical elements here, it could be you like the idea of evoking a sense of place or you have the perfect person in mind as a narrator? • #9 Consider pros and cons here, what are you excited about, what is a worry…
  • #10 This could be audio recording, post-production, getting cast/narrator, etc…it might be just organising your idea into a workable project…
