2. OUR TARGET AUDIENCE
The age demographic for our chosen artist and our music video ranges from ages 18-25. This is
because we are looking at the theme of relationships and it is at this age that young people may be
able to relate to the lyrics, as they discuss the typical issues encountered in first serious relationships.
Another reason to focus on targeting this age group is that it is the same age group as the artist –
Finn Doherty – meaning the audience may find it easier to relate to him and his lyrics, as a similar
generational background means they may share the same thoughts, ideas and experiences.
In terms of gender, looking at stereotypes and evidence we can gain from that, it is evident that
Finns audience may most likely be female, as the theme of relationships and love explored in various
of his songs – e.g. ‘Where Do We Go?’ is a stereotypically female interest. This idea can be supported
by the existing artists such as Ed Sheeran or Sam Smith, who focus on the theme of love within their
lyrics and have a larger ratio of female fans than male.
Considering demographics, it is likely that due to the common topic of love and relationships within
Finns songs , the audience would be categorised into a mainstream category. Mainstream music
often explores themes of love, loss and relationships as this is something everyone can relate to, this
meaning it consequently becomes a popular theme.

Troye Sivan – age 22 – is an Australian singer-
songwriter who’s musical genre has been described as
dream-pop, electro-pop and indie-pop.
Sivan gained his loyal audience through social media,
particularly YouTube, where he would post his music
and has gained a following since 2011. His debut
studio album ‘Blue Neighborhood’ followed two EP’s,
and gained him further popularity within the
mainstream. The albums lead single ‘Youth’ became his
first single to enter the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100
chart, peaking at number 23.
His audience consists of a demographic of 18-25 year
olds, and are mostly female. He also has a large
following from the LGBTQ+ community due to his
openness about his sexuality and the fact he has
featured gay relationships within his music videos.
