cover. This shows that because she was an unknown
artist before this album release, as many artists are in
the indie genre because they do not conform to social
expectations, she wants people to recognise when they
see this picture that it is her so wants to make sure that
people see the poster when it is being advertised and
see the same picture in stores for her album cover.
Alternative artists albums covers are also often very
simplistic or symbolic as the audience has to look for the
meaning in the image rather then it being given to them.

3. Audience
Lana Del Rey would target an active alternative audience due to her old style
of music and how it is very different to anything seen in the mainstream
market. Most of her music is emotionally powerful as they are sad songs with
a very slow pace and and important meaning. One of her songs
“Summertime sadness” became very popular due to the remix making the
song a lot faster and upbeat for the mainstream audience which gave the
song more popularity, however mostly the remix version.
I believe that the main target audience for this artist would be the younger
generation of 16-30. This is due to the fact that this age is when teenagers,
and especially girls, get very emotional and could start to relate to the lyrics.
As Lana Del Rey is similar to Dagny their types of target audience will be
similar. However Lana Del Ray has a more somber tone compared to the
upbeat songs from Dagny, but their lyrics have the same meaning therefore
making them similar.

4. Lana Del Rey’s ,media image is very small
as she is “really, really bored of being
famous” which conforms with the
alternative genre that she is part of. She
prefers if she could just focus on the
music and not have to face up to the
media.
Dagny is not as popular as Lana Del Rey
so does not have as much media
coverage but still says she just wants to
focus on the music, showing why artists
in the indie genre are alternative as they
do not conform to mainstream media
conventions.
