An Average Sized Person By My Own Society s Standards
An average sized person by my own society s standards, I have developed over the last few days, a
sudden complex: I feel gargantuan in size as I stand a head above the throngs of people I am swarmed
by, while attempting to make my way through the crosswalk. Rarely one prone to anxiety, it is difficult
not to become overwhelmed; never have I seen so many people in one place. Tokyo after all, boasts
nearly half the population that Canada does in its entirety. Feeling the familiar wave of nausea that had
accompanied me since landing, I signal to my friend Yasuyo, my need to stop. It feels as though the
world itself is tilting and that gravity has ceased to exist, and as the earth continues to shift under my
feet, I start to believe that in a moment I will topple off its surface. I thought jet lag simply equated
tiredness. I lean against a building in an attempt to steady myself. My fear of humiliating myself and
my company is slowly starting to subside as the wave passes. What takes its place is a feeling so
profound it too, becomes physical. I look up to the sky and although it is mid day I can see the half
moon. I wonder if any of my friends back home happened to be gazing at the same moon in that very
moment. It is then that the sweeping realization came over me; I had succeeded in making a small but
victorious step towards fulfilling my dream of traversing the globe. Seventeen years and twenty five
countries later, that feeling is not one that has since been replicated,

Essay on Tragedy in Jewish History
Tragedy in Jewish History
The Jews are a people with a multitude of dilemmas. From the
Israelite tribes to the prosperous modern day Israel , bigotry towards the
Jews has been greatly evident. The Jewish race has acted as Escape Goat for many crisis throughout
history including the black plague which swept across Europe in the 14th century. The establishment
of Israel was a great incident was something the Jewish people were striving to obtain for generations.
This, however, led to four major conflicts between Israel and the Arab countries. One of the most
meaningful wars was the Six Day War.
Events such as the holocaust have also had a dramatic effect on world history and whose mysteries are
still being unravelled. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This uprising was led by the Maccabees, a provincial priestly family
(also called Hasmoneans). They recaptured the Temple and rededicated it to the God of Israel. The
Maccabees made there last stand on a mountain and was able to hold back the syrians for more then a
month. There is a distinct similarity between the two stories and that is possibly why they are both
recognised as holidays in the Jewish faith.
These horrific events of the holocaust have let to some consequences which are beneficial and some
are unfortunate to the Jewish people. The population of the followers has greatly declined. Also the
Jewish people after the war still had problems finding jobs. They had to essentially start there life
over. Most of them lost a close relative or at least knew someone who died in the gas chambers of the
Nazi concentration camps. This has put a psychological strain on Jewish survivors or no longer having
family and friends with them for support. This event has awaken the world up to the needs of the
Jewish people. It has given them political power and a justification for some of their actions.
On May recognized,1945 ,the end of World War II was seen. Organized
Jewry in the European continent was damaged beyond repair. The Jews concentrated on the
preservation of Israel and on the bringing of Nazi war criminals to trial.
There is a day of commemoration, Holocaust Day, observed in Israel and elsewhere on Nisan

Judge Haselton s Case Summary
In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this
escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and
wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being
examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the
justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos,
and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was
constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes
the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to
111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several
medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains
dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and
unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court
denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also
denied that reformation was of higher significance than the protection of society because there were
multiple victims affected in a public setting. Audience, Purpose, and Rhetorical Stance There is a

Saki s The Interlopers vs. Callaghan s All the Years of Her Life
In the story The Interlopers, Saki writes about
two families that have been feuding for generations. He writes about how interlopers
stop them from rivaling, and eventually bring the two of them to be friends
only minutes before they are eaten by wolves. He does this by using dramatic
irony. Through the character s words he tells us what the two will do when
they get back to town now that they are friends. This leads you to believe
that the feud is over and everything is all right. The author then, however,
allows the characters to be eaten by wolves; contrary to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Alfred is confronted by Mr. Carr, the store clerk, and is caught. Mr. Carr
then calls Alfred s mother, Mrs. Higgins, to stop by because Alfred is in trouble.
Mrs. Higgins arrives and Mr. Carr makes clear to her the situation. She asks
Alfred if it is true that he stole the items, and he confesses so she takes
him home. Alfred sees his mother s pain, and causes him to think some and
mature. He acts more grown up afterwards, and there is no iron
y in the resolution
of this story. Callaghan achieves his purpose of showing that situations that
require acting grown up can cause you to mature in your thinking.
In
both stories, the main characters are significantly changed due to circumstances
and situations that they face. In the story The Interlopers, the two men were
fierce enemies because of the feud that had been going on in their family.
By the end they have pity for each other, put aside their differences and
become friends. In All the Years of Her Life, Alfred is changed in the way
that he has matured. He realizes that his petty thefts and childish antics
deeply hurt his mother; embarrass her because he sees her crying

The Hazards of Coal Use
The Hazards of Coal Use:
Coal has been combusted for fuel for thousands of years. However it was not until the last few
decades that the consequences of coal use have been fully realized and effort has been taken to lessen
the severe environmental harm that can come from the combustion of coal. The fact of the matter is no
matter how much we may dislike coal and the detrimental effects of it we, as a nation, depend on coal
to live our lives. When we flip a switch and a light turns on we don t give it a second thought but its
not always that simple. Aside from coal s significant contribution to climate change there have been
other disasters stemming from coal and specifically the storage of contaminants extracted from coal
combustion. One of the biggest man made environmental disasters of the millennia occurred just
outside of Kingston, Tennessee in late 2008. This disaster though not as well publicized as many other
disasters has been estimated to have released over 5.4 million cubic yards of coal ash several times
more contaminants by volume than the Exxon Valdeez oil spill in 1989 (Initial Emergency).
Clean Coal
Similar to most coal fired power plants in the United Stated today the Kingston Fossil Plant in
Tennessee utilized various scrubbers , which effectively separated flue ash, also known as fly ash, a
byproduct of the coal combustion process. Through the use of scrubbers fly ash is separated from the
flue gases released into the atmosphere. Fly ash is

Is The Dichotomy In Relation To The Baptism In The Holy...
Introduction This paper will compare and evaluate the views of John MacArthur and Keith
Warrington, in relation to the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Particularly, focusing on their views as to
whether the baptism in the Holy Spirit takes place as a consequence of conversion or subsequently, as
a unique experience. Each author s views will be compared and evaluated using other academic
sources, with special reference to Biblical evidence. Finally, a clear conclusion from the evaluation
process will establish which argument is better founded Biblically.
The Initial Argument John MacArthur, a Cessationist, claims that at the moment of salvation all
believers are, baptised, indwelt and sealed with the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, MacArthur argues ...

The first part is found in John 20:22 and the second part is found in Acts 2:1 4. Warrington, claims that
a partial filling of the Holy Spirit was given in John 20:22, with a fuller filling given in Acts 2:1 4.
Furthermore, the first filling resulted in the authority to forgive and to withhold the forgiveness of
sins, whilst the second filling resulted in a more permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 20:23,
Acts 2:4).
However, MacArthur counters this claim by stating that in John 20:22, the Holy Spirit was not given,
but only promised. Evidence for this counterclaim is provided in John 20:26, whereby eight days after
this, pledge to be filled with the Holy Spirit, the disciples are found to be locked inside through fear of
the Jews. Therefore, the disciples must have lacked the Holy Spirit s manifest power and presence,
proving that the Holy Spirit had not yet been given; a view supported by Köstenberger.
In order to evaluate Warrington s claim and to bring a conclusion to this argument it is essential to
analyse these passages in reference to other scholarly

The Vietnam War Era Of American History
Stanley Karnow describes the Vietnam War era of American history as ...a tragedy of epic
dimensions... 1 and it is fair to postulate that this is no understatement. One of the more pertinent
ramifications of the Vietnam War was the deconstruction of fundamental, if somewhat illusory,
American conceptions and ideals. The war shattered America s hitherto unshakeable confidence 2 in
its political hegemony, military prowess and assumed authority in world order, i.e. ...its moral
exclusivity, its military invincibility and manifest destiny... 3 The war that was never officially
declared is one that American society and culture would rather unofficially forget. Karnow argues:
...in human terms...the war in Vietnam was a war that nobody won a struggle between victims... 4,
moreover to augment this standpoint, I would argue that another significant and concurrent victim of
the Vietnam War was, and still is, the truth. Memory is an intrinsic and integral facet of human
existence, crucially affecting every aspect of our character, actions, emotions and experiences.
Furthermore, as Marita Sturken suggests, ...memory establishes life s continuity...and provides the
very core of identity.... 5, furthermore cultural memory is ...memory shared outside the avenues of
formal historical discourse yet is entangled with cultural products and imbued with cultural meaning...
6 Therefore, it would be logical to assume that American cultural memory innately presupposes
American cultural identity. In the

Film Techniques In Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank Redemption is a film that was directed by Frank Darabont. Shawshank Redemption was a
film about Andy Dufresne, who goes to prison for a double murder that he did not commit and serves
two life sentences, Andy makes long lasting friendships at Shawshank Prison and has many hobbies
that he does. In Shawshank Redemption a major theme in this film is escape as it is displayed through
the film numerous times and in different formats such as film techniques and characterization.
Shawshank Redemption is a box office classic and it has been referred to as the best film ever made. A
scene where escape was featured heavily is when Andy and his friends were tarring a roof as Red had

Andy escapes by making a hole through the wall over a twenty year period and then during a stormy
night, Andy breaks the sewage pipe by using a piece of concreate while it is masked by the sound of
thunder. Escape is displayed very comprehensively through film techniques and characterization.
When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he was baptised because
he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also escaped the corruption and
money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering schemes otherwise he would
make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in this scene was when Andy was
breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then switch to the lightning strike
through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the piece of concrete against the pipe. This
film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience be on the edge of their seats. This
scene if very significant to the story because this when Andy literally escapes from Shawshank and the
themes displayed in the scene displays how much defiance and hope Andy really had. In conclusion,
Shawshank Redemption used characterization and film techniques to display Escape through Andy
and the people around successfully. Personally, I really enjoyed watching Shawshank Redemption
because the film used a lot of thought provoking themes

Injera
As soon as I walked through the doors of Ras Ka, I felt a sense of home. The aroma of berbere and
niter kibbeh wafting through the room. The setting was quaint and inviting, only four tables to choose
from. The kitchen was open to the sitting area, a see through curtain acting as the door. The owner,
Hannah, welcomed us. Hannah was wearing a colorful netela, a traditional Ethiopian shawl. My
family and I sat down on a back bench and ordered a traditional herbal tea. The taste was bitter and
bland. While I had a hard time swallowing the dirt like tea, I enjoyed the aesthetic of the spices and
herbs. A serving platter of Injera timatim FitFit was placed in front of us. Injera is traditionally made
of tef and used like a tortilla to enjoy lentils and mixed vegetables. The injera was bland with a
spongey texture. However, the neutral flavor of the injera balanced the prominently spicy flavor of the
Ras Ka sauce. Traditionally, Ethiopian cuisine contains wat, a fiery spice. Ras Ka displays the
traditional eating customs of Muslim and Christian populations in Ethiopia by remaining a fully vegan
and vegetarian restaurant. Many Muslims and Christians in Ethiopia avoid consuming pork, and often
beef and chicken. The platter was loaded full with tomatoes, lentils, green peppers, and onions. The
prominent agriculture of Ethiopia was directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the vegetables, only added extraordinary flavor. As I dined on injera and lentils, I felt as though
Hannah s mother and grandmother had prepared the dish for me. I was captivated by the taste, I was

Why Are Sweatshops Be Banned
Introduction
The word sweatshop has always had a negative connotation lingering over it. Many economists
believe that they should be banned and made illegal due to their poor working conditions, safety
hazards and worker exploitations. Although these opinions will indefinitely exist about sweatshops
there are many economists that fight the negative views by bringing statistics and facts about alternate
working conditions into the picture. This forces readers to see alternate views about the issue and how
people in third world countries make a living. The purpose of this review is to investigate the different
aspects and views on how sweatshops are either beneficial or detrimental to third world countries and
the citizens who live there. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many articles were also found through current, credible news sources. The term sweatshops was
initially searched and then later changed to sweatshops and the economy and sweatshop conditions

became a little more difficult after narrowing down the topic from a broad point of view. Many articles
about this issue were also found by researching credible economists that have discussed the
controversy multiple times in journals. These articles helped the most with research because
economists have different views about sweatshops and how it helps shape the economy but they also
do not neglect the aspect of exploitation of workers and unfair pay issues sweatshops bring. Research
on the issue of sweatshops was fairly clear and the documents and professional journals are

Meeting A Deadline Research Paper
Everything has a time limit the point where when you meet that end and all you can do is look back,
this is a deadline. When you should go to sleep, when favorite restaurant closes and where on time
meets too late. Not all deadlines are forced yet most are never really by choice. The purpose they serve
is important part of life in which the world moves forward and when work has to be done. It keeps the
perspective of time management into focus and what I have to work with. Every day that starts with a
plan has deadlines I plan to meet. I get dressed before five thirty. I try to sleep no more than nine hours
to prevent oversleeping fatigue. I keep conversations under a minute so I don t lose track of what I
was doing in the moment. When I go a trip I plan to leave early to avoid traffic on the road. Meeting

Why Didn t Noah Swat Those Two Mosquitoes?
We all know how Noah was instructed by God to make an ark, and fill it with two of every sort of
living thing, and gather food for them (Genesis 6:11 22) but if you are lying in a hospital bed waiting
for the nurse to stick the big, gleaming needle in your vein for the nth time, you will definitely want

World Health Organization (WHO) celebrates World Health Day on 7th April each year and the theme
for 2014 was, Vector borne diseases under the banner Small Bite Big Threat .Vector borne diseases

Imagine Mr. X, a resident of Mumbai who is suffering from high fever, severe headache (behind the

decreased platelets and NS 1 antigen test is positive. What am I talking about? You guessed it right!
DENGUE!
Why talk about dengue? WHO says the world s fastest growing vector borne disease is dengue, with a
30 fold increase in disease incidence over the last 50 years. The Centre for Disease Control (CDC)

Key Themes In The Film Kramer V. Kramer
The movie Kramer v. Kramer is about a man named Billy Kramer, who is left with his son for 18
months. After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son that he didn t have in the past
years. After those 18 months Kramer s wife comes to take the child back by filing for custody. There
are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about
men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change America s
perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should appreciate his wife
and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on their careers than they
were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses on women at the time.
The movie Kramer v Kramer starts with Bill Kramer coming home to find out that his wife is leaving

Legend. Coco Chanel once declared, Legend is the consecration of celebrity, and no other fashion
designer in history has exceeded either Chanel s celebrity or her legend. She was a fiercely
independent lover of dukes, industrialists, and artists; a confidante of many of the creative geniuses of
her day among them, writer Jean Cocteau, painter Pablo Picasso, ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev,
and composer Igor Stravinsky; and a self created image of the free spirited new woman of the 1920s.

Chanel both embodied, and in many ways dictated, the revolution in women s fashion that occurred in
the 1920s.
Connections. Chanel s influence was in part the result of the personal and social contacts she made in
postwar Europe. In 1917 she became a protégée of the wealthy, beautiful Misia Edwards later Misia
Sert who introduced her to the circle of avant garde writers and artists with whom Edwards associated.
During the 1920s Chanel herself hosted parties for these intellectuals as well as for the wealthiest and
best known members of European and American society. In 1924 she designed the costumes for
Diaghilev s ballet Train Bleu, for which Cocteau had written the story and Picasso had designed sets.
During the 1920s and early 1930s Chanel also formed intense but generally brief liaisons with
fascinating men: Russian Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, who had participated in the assassination of
the mad Russian monk Rasputin; Hugh Richard Arthur Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, among the

Steroids In Baseball Essay
Steroids have taken over the game of baseball and more players are starting to get involved with them.
Steroids are a big part of the Major League today in 2014, yet they entered the game of baseball
through trainer Curtis Wenzlaff in 1992. Players and the game s images are ravaged when they
become caught up in steroids. Some of the best players to ever play the game of baseball have been
caught up in steroids, including Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGwire. Players with this
level of skill are supposed to be role models for younger kids, yet younger kids see that they used
steroids and are tempted to use them. When their young, impressionable minds witness steroids use,
naturally kids attempt to imitate their idols. More ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, steroids can cause men s testicals to shrink (Mitchell 55). Baseball players who use steroids are
so mentally focused on the positive effects of steroids that they forget to think about the negative
effects on mental health, the liver, the cardiovascular system, and the reproductive system. The main
type of steroids causing all this chaos to the body are called Anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are
used the most often in Major League Baseball (MLB). The reasons why MLB players get caught up in
Anabolic steroids is because they have so much pressure on them to hit home runs, get on base, and
entertain. To help them cope with their pressure, they turn to Anabolic steroids because of the fast
gains and positive impacts players experience after treatment. This is a positive for baseball fans, who
have seen an increase in home runs hit; for example, in just a five year span between 1961 and 1996,
there was an increase of nine players who hit at least forty home runs in just one season. Anabolic
steroids also make one s hands faster and they increase muscle in areas like the pectorals and
forearms. When players are going through a slump and they hear about all of these benefits of
Anabolic steroids, they are tempted by this easy fix. Despite all of these positives, negatives also come
with steroid use. Anabolic steroids can be taken two different ways by injection, which

An Examination Of Post Event Information ( Pei )
Another form of Post event information (PEI) is conformity, in the event that an individual witnesses a
crime committed there is always the potential that there are co witnesses that also witnessed the crime,
while an increase in witnesses may hold some positives there is the potential for conformity.
Conformity takes place when one witnesses memories of a past event become more like another
person s described memories of the same event (Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 462). Co
witnesses often alter their memory reports to coincide with other witnesses reports (Goodwin K.A. et
al., 2013, pg. 91). If a co witness is a friend or family then an individual is even more likely to
conform to their views than they would be if the co witness was a stranger. Kieckhaefer and Wright
also found evidence that another factor that increases a witnesses memory conformity is if the co
witness is likable(Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 463). There have been multiple studies
conducted where researchers use confederates, research helpers used to feed unknowing participants
information, to determine whether or not participants will conform to the confederate s reports
(Goodwin, K.A. et al., 2013, pg. 91). Furthermore, witnesses are more likely to alter their views when
they are motivated to avoid deviating from the group. Therefore, if a group of other individuals
pressure a witness they are likely to alter their experience to fit with others (Goodwin, K.A. et al.,

Douglasian Cultural Model in Indian Context
Comment Form for Assessed Work
Introduction Today s world is being dominated by daily innovations in technology and increasing
globalization which helps organizations to spread and to operate globally in a successful way. Every
organisation operating at a global level is trying to improve their financial profits. The success of such
organizations greatly depends on their workforce and their decision making capabilities. Many times
the ethicality of such decisions have been questioned because of the profit driven strategies of these
organizations. As Nobel Prize winner economist Milton Friedman quotes, An executive s
responsibility generally will be to make as much money as possible while conforming to their basic ...

Also the article studies the ethical practices of different types of companies and business entities to
understand the business ethics beyond large private corporations with respect to all the four
solidarities of CT. The article debates about the dynamicity of ethical decision making by citing the
examples of all the solidarities existing in different Indian corporations. Also it talks over about the
historical and philosophical background for the adoption of different ethical strategies by different
corporations.
Weaknesses The article explains the process of ethical decision making in business from a Douglasian
Cultural Theory perspective only. The article does not identify many other factors beyond culture that
may account for differences in work behaviour across nations. Scholars like Parboteeah and Cullen
(2003) have suggested the need to include noncultural factors to isolate the influence of culture on
ethical behaviour. Also many scholars have talked about the other personal characteristics like
education, age, gender and religion that affect the ethical decision making but they have not put any
light on this part in the article. According to Kracher, Chatterjee and Lundquist, education plays an
important and positive role in one s ethical decision making. Also Singhapakdi et al.: JBE (1996) talk
about the relationship between ethical sensitivity and age being significantly positive. Ameen, et al.,
(1996) suggests that ethical

Set It Off Themes
Set It Off (1996) is an action packed, star studded film focusing on the lives of four African American
female friends in a tough inner city environment who are willing to go to any length, including bank
robbery, to escape the limitations and struggles of their gender, race, and socioeconomic status.
According to director Gary Gray, the film is not so much about robbing banks as choices young sisters
make when their backs are against the wall (Gregory 1996, 56). While the film has similar urban
youth struggles found in many of the other ghettocentric films of the 1990s, Set It Off distinguishes
itself in the genre due to presenting a largely unique all star cast of blacktresses and also for portraying
themes concentrated on the plight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in contrast to the other exclusively male dominated and themed films also released in the
decade, when Set It Off was coauthored by Kate Lanier and Takashi Bufford in the early 1990s, it was
intentionally grounded in close observation of the harsh realities faced by four female friends living in
Los Angeles, California. In an opening scene, Frankie is fired for having a personal connection to a
man who robs the bank where she is a bank teller even though she clearly has no involvement in the
robbery. Stoney s younger brother is later that evening wrongfully gunned down by police at his own
high school graduation ceremony when he is mistakenly identified as being the same neighborhood
friend who had earlier robbed Frankie s bank. Because she is a single mother earning low wages and
has no means to pay for childcare, T.T. s young son is taken away by child protective services when
the child is injured at her janitorial job as soon as desperation forces her to bring him to work with her.
Each of these closely chronological events, most notably T.T. s necessity to obtain money for legal
fees in order to regain custody of her son, lead the foursome to form a pact to rob banks together. Cleo
is the only friend who appears to have no clear aspiration to leave their urban lifestyle.

The Benefits And Uses Of Social Media In Education
Social media is the most ordinally used medium to connect with the world because of its many
advantages and benefits. Lots of students are already involved in social networks. Social media have
changed the ways of learning and providing pieces of information on education. It has been used in
education nowadays more than ever and showing beneficial results out of that. Uses of social media
are increasing continuously in education and both students and educators are becoming dependent on
it. The reason behind is its simple access, uses, and good availability. Among many of the advantages
of social media in education, applying it for communication purposes, sharing class materials, files
etc. for classroom projects as well as uses of QR codes are some leading ones.
Defining social media is a tricky task to do because of its constant change (Tess, 2013). Social media
involves a vast range of pc and mobile platforms which continue to develop constantly, launched and
re launched, abandoned also ignored daily in countries all over the world that consist of various forms
of communication (Ober Wildman,2013). Although Facebook is dominant face of social media (Tess,
2013) and twitter is popular microblogging website (Tess, 2013), however in recent times, various
social networking sites, blogs, wikis, multimedia platforms, virtual game worlds, and virtual social
applications are added as social media (Barnes Lescault, 2011; McEwan, 2012).

Reasons For Secession
The Confederate States of America: Formation and Reasons for Secession While the Confederate
States of America ultimately failed in their goal, the effects of their secession and the Civil War linger
into the modern day. There have been many diverging views on the political reasoning behind the
separation of the North from the South, and it has become a contentious issue in the twenty first
century. This paper will examine the causes of secession, the initial political formation of the
Confederate States of America, and the Southern citizens opinions of the Southern secession.
The Causes of Secession The reasons for the South s departure from union can be summarized into
two main topics. Of those, slavery was the most contentious and ... Show more content on

In fact, many leaders of the Southern church prayed for secession and that their state would abandon
the Union (The Civil War, p. 53). Another way that religion influenced the war was the perception that
slave owners were doing Christian work by owning slaves. Stephen Hale, a lawyer and state legislator
from Alabama, wrote to Kentucky s governor stating that the institution of slavery civilized and
Christianized the heathen better than any other agency. In his letter, he also claimed that slavery
improved the moral, physical, and intellectual condition of those in slavery (The Civil War, p.

Joyce Carol Oates Smooth Talk
Compare and Contrast Essay Short stories don t always translate well into full length movies, but this
movie, Smooth Talk, by Joyce Chopra, is a wonderful work based on the story, Where Are You Going,
Where Have You Been, by Joyce Carol Oates. The movie is very different from the original work,
both have the same storyline, both talk about a teenage girl name Connie. When putting these two
together, while similarity in many ways, but at the same time, they both have differences throughout
the entire story, from what we imagine of the characters to the ending of the story. As in the short
story, the story is more about Connie and Oates only uses a few sentences to describe her family
members, she doesn t provide much detail either. On the other hand, in the movie by Joyce Chopra,
she adds a few scene and even developing further more into the other characters, such as the mother,
father and her older sister, June. The main theme is still about Connie but also about her family. By
doing this, it can create more connection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Oates leaves the story with an open ended ending, with lots of questions hanging. The story
ends with no other explain, and the ending is up to the reader to decide, which makes the story more
thrilling. On the contrary, the changes Chopra made gives the movie another aspect and a new sense, a
new feeling to it. The new ending solves all the conflict between the mother and Connie when they
finally accept each other. Her sister, June, at the very last scene of the movie, is finally able to sit with
Connie and talks about what has happened. Overall it is a happy ending comparing to the short story
that it s based on. The ending makes it look like the ride with Arnold Friend was just another

Southwest Airlines Merger
BASIC STRATEGY: In order to make up for increasing expenses Southwest needs to expand. My
recommended strategy for Southwest to pursue, is to merge with Air Tran and expand into areas where
Air Tran has a heavy presence and Southwest has none. With Southwest having a weak presence in the
southeastern U.S., a key area to expand would be Atlanta s Hartsfield Jackson International, which is
the busiest airport in the U.S. There is obviously a need for the low air fare company at this site.
Southwest s unique approach of no extra charge for luggage and extra friendly service should help
Southwest. The merger is estimated to cost Southwest $1.4 billion dollars; Air Trans income for 2010
was around $128 million, and along with the 138 new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the process of the absorption, there will need to be strong communication to the customers to
let them know when exactly changes will be taking place. Updates should be kept daily on Southwest
s website and up to date information should be presented to all passengers when booking flights.
Television commercials should be ran (especially around the Atlanta area) showing newly remodeled
planes that once carried AirTran customers and show major improvements appealing to both
vacationers and business travelers. Strong communication on how the AirTran frequent flyer miles
will implemented by Southwest. This could be an area of major conflicts between Southwest and old
loyal AirTran customers, but strong communication could easily prevent many conflicts.
Shared Values: The unique culture and values of Southwest Airlines has been one of the key factors of
Southwest s success over the years. Southwest s CEO feels that the employees of Southwest are the
company s single greatest strength and most enduring long term competitive advantage. Getting
AirTran s acquired employees to commit to the shared vision of the company will be another key
implementation lever during the acquisition process. Southwest really values a fun and loving
atmosphere among employees and passengers. Employees and management go out of their ways to
implement these values and AirTran employees will be expected to share these values as well as
management strives for total alignment. (Successful

Examples Of A Community Based Project
My community based project will involve children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
and their correlating community age groups. The local community center will hold an after school
program for children with ASD and a night program for adults on the spectrum, ages 18 and older. The
after school program will meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3 5pm and will be ran by
school aged volunteers. These volunteers will be part of a yearlong project, and optional summer
sessions, that will give them the chance to receive academic and volunteer credit. The night program,
on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday will meet from 6 9pm and will be ran by adult volunteers in the
community. These sessions will focus mainly on social skills and ... Show more content on

While assisting with homework, dialogue is inevitable. If the children with ASD associate their
homework with more casual dialogue with another student, it may encourage them to want to speak up
and communicate more. They could eventually develop a positive association with schoolwork
because of the casual and non competitive atmosphere of this environment. The second part of the
sessions would include playtime, these activities would range in variation for each age group but
revolve around sports, music, and art. The community night program for the adults with ASD will
focus on social skills in real life settings and possible job preparation for those who qualify. This
session will also include adult community volunteers. They will be leading programs that will
encourage participation in real life social settings, that involve spoken language. If these adults with
ASD are rehearsed and practiced in life like settings, they will become more prepared to face the same
situations in the real world. Depending on the severity of the adult with ASD they will be placed in a
specific group, they will also be monitored to find out what activities they are mostly interested in.
The first half of the session will focus on life skills. These will include classes on self care, safety
procedures, and home economics, to provide the opportunity for them to become as independent as
possible. For the adults with ASD who qualify to receive job

Music Classification Essay
The one thing that clearly defines America is the music. The music of this generation is incredible.First
off you can listen to anything you want with no judgment, You can even make Devoted friends over
the music. You have Jazz music and Musicals, Pop and Rap, Hardcore and Deathcore music,Kpop and
Dubstep, you name it it s out there somewhere and you can listen to it.Therefore so many people go to
music types on an impulse.Consequently I listen to almost every kind of music, I like to have my
friends send me music they re into. I can learn more about that friend; the music someone listens to
really does say a lot about them. Therefore,I also extend my knowledge and love for different types of
music.

The Silent Generation (people born in the 20s and 30s) had big band and swing. Baby Boomers (born
in the 40s and 50s) had rock and soul. Generation X (born in the 60s and 70s) had grunge and hip hop.
There s plenty of overlap, of course, and these are incredibly broad distinctions that don t take a lot of
other genres into consideration. But it s probably fair to say that these were the most defining
moments in music for each generation. This was taken from an article called The Sound of a
Generation. This clearly shows that music defines a generation, therefore also defines America.
Music is truly amazing, it really defines our social rankings and groups. For instance, people who dress
more grunge , tend to lean more towards rock and metal. While the theater kids lean more towards
Musicals and sometimes Jazz. People who listen to everything like me, we tend to not have a group
and flow gracefully between groups. The there are some people who don t fancy music in the least, they
tend to have a harder time making friends. Not only that but there is a song that we adopted to sing at

The Great Divergence Essay
Europe is given special consideration thus far in this class. What made Europe or European
civilization unique in the perspective of some authors? It went from marginal status to powerful region
in a few hundred years. What did this process look like? Be sure to address this at the various levels
(ideological, behavioral, institutional, material etc.). Are there reasons for this dominance that are
more important than others?
Looking back at the world in the past few hundred years, it would have been difficult to imagine that
one day, majority of Western Europe would come to dominate the world in global economy (Landes,
European Exceptionalism: A Different Path, 1998). Frank (2001) described the process of which the
western society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In such environment, policies of scientific and social inactivity could stand because of tradition or
culture. On the other hand, Europe was geographically set in reduced, closer, but with larger number
of groups, surrounded and separated by small rivers and mountains, thus, governments that repressed
economic and scientific development soon amended their errors or were out done rapidly (Pomeranz,
2000).
The early western world benefitted from revenues from trading European products to the Eastern
countries (Pomeranz, 2000). High earnings obtained from trading with eastern countries and sales of
slave established seven percent profit per annum, which is a relatively high rate of return considering
the high rate of depreciation on pre industrial capital stocks, which limited the amount of savings and
capital accumulation , stated Pomeranz (2000). Many theories suggest that the Great Divergence
occurred as a result of trade development from Europe to Asia, which later on became the main factor
of the New World. As, Pomeranz (2000) stated, the greatest significant advantage for Europe was the
vast amount of fertile, uncultivated land in the North America which could be used to grow large
quantities of farm products required to sustain European economic growth and allowed labour and
land to be freed up in Europe for industrialization. A great example of this is how England saved
approximately 23 25 million acres of agricultural space by importing goods such

Why Thyroid Gland Important
Why is Your Thyroid Gland So Important?
The thyroid is a gland that is found in the lower, front section of the neck, just below the Adam s
apple. It wraps around the windpipe (trachea) and supports the voice box (larynx). It is a rich source of
blood vessels, and its shape resembles a butterfly because of its two side lobes that are joined in the
middle by a bridge (isthmus).
The function of the thyroid gland is to manufacture and store the body s important hormones that
support the internal regulation of body temperature, blood pressure levels, and the heart beat rhythm.
These hormones circulate through the bloodstream and impact the performance of every tissue and
cell. The thyroid gland hormones also play a significant role in a person s ... Show more content on

A third important hormone made by the thyroid is calcitonin. This hormone activates bones cells to
increase bone calcium. The pituitary gland is an endocrine gland that is located at the base of the brain
and weighs less than 2 ounces. This gland signals the thyroid gland during the production of hormones
by a system called TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).
When the pituitary and thyroid glands are working properly, there are no adverse effects. However,
higher TSH signals from the pituitary gland result in lower thyroid performance. Lower pituitary TSH
signals will result in higher thyroid performance. Low levels of thyroid hormones is known as
hypothyroidism, and it causes the body s systems to slow down. Conversely, high levels of thyroid
hormones is known as hyperthyroidism, and it causes nervousness, irritability, and rapid heart
rhythms.
Thyroid disorders manifest in many forms. Some symptoms of an underactive thyroid gland include
swelling in the thyroid area, tiredness, brain fog, constipation, weight gain, and sore muscles. Some
symptoms of an overactive thyroid gland include anxiety, fast heart beat rate, diarrhea, weight loss,
frequent perspiration, and increased risk of

The Relationship Between Export Processing Zones
Export Processing Zones

Introduction
The relationship between Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and globalization, Neoliberalism, global
governing institutions and the 1980s debt crisis has attracted a lot of debate in the economic circles. It
is widely believed that EPZs have helped in the development of the globalization project. Economists
believe that the rise and growth of EPZs was enabled by the neoliberal strategies that global governing
institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF instituted after the 1980s debt crisis in Latin America.
In his book titled Development and Social Change , McMichael deals with critical events that led to
globalization. These include Neoliberalism, the debt crisis and the rise of export processing zones.
This paper will investigate these interrelationships and conclude that there is a key relationship
between EPZ and the globalization project, and the rise and growth of the EPZ with the neoliberal
actions of key global governing institutions especially after the 1980s debt crisis.
EPZ and the Growth of the Globalization Project. Globalization is the process through which the
world is becoming increasingly interconnected due to massive increase in cultural exchanges and
trade. It has increased production of services and goods and their movement from one part of the
world to another. Due to globalization, companies now operate in multiple countries. There is freer
movement of goods, services and

  • 2. An Average Sized Person By My Own Society s Standards An average sized person by my own society s standards, I have developed over the last few days, a sudden complex: I feel gargantuan in size as I stand a head above the throngs of people I am swarmed by, while attempting to make my way through the crosswalk. Rarely one prone to anxiety, it is difficult not to become overwhelmed; never have I seen so many people in one place. Tokyo after all, boasts nearly half the population that Canada does in its entirety. Feeling the familiar wave of nausea that had accompanied me since landing, I signal to my friend Yasuyo, my need to stop. It feels as though the world itself is tilting and that gravity has ceased to exist, and as the earth continues to shift under my feet, I start to believe that in a moment I will topple off its surface. I thought jet lag simply equated tiredness. I lean against a building in an attempt to steady myself. My fear of humiliating myself and my company is slowly starting to subside as the wave passes. What takes its place is a feeling so profound it too, becomes physical. I look up to the sky and although it is mid day I can see the half moon. I wonder if any of my friends back home happened to be gazing at the same moon in that very moment. It is then that the sweeping realization came over me; I had succeeded in making a small but victorious step towards fulfilling my dream of traversing the globe. Seventeen years and twenty five countries later, that feeling is not one that has since been replicated, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Judge Haselton s Case Summary In May of 1998, Kipland Kinkel brought a gun to his school. Over the course of two days this escalated from: being sent home, to murdering his father and mother, to murdering 2 students and wounding 26, earning a lifetime sentence of 111 years and 8 months in prison. In the court case being examined, the presiding judge addresses the original case, defendants ground for appeal, and the justification for the State s decision to deny the appeal. Judge Haselton effectively uses ethos, logos, and pathos to support the Higher Court s decision to deny the appeal because the original sentence was constitutional and just. Summary In State of Oregon v. Kipland Kinkel, Judge Haselton summarizes the decision to deny Kinkel s appeal of his sentencing. Kinkel was sentenced by the Lower Court to 111 years and 8 months for the confession of 4 murders and 25 accounts of attempted murder. Several medical personal and parents testified against Kinkel at the hearing stating that, he is and remains dangerous, (para. 15). The defense s grounds for appeal consist of the sentencing being cruel and unusual and that the protection of society was considered more than reformation. The higher court denied it was cruel and unusual because it did not shock the conscience. The presiding judge also denied that reformation was of higher significance than the protection of society because there were multiple victims affected in a public setting. He writes about how interlopers stop them from rivaling, and eventually bring the two of them to be friends only minutes before they are eaten by wolves. He does this by using dramatic irony. Through the character s words he tells us what the two will do when they get back to town now that they are friends. This leads you to believe that the feud is over and everything is all right. • 7. The Hazards of Coal Use The Hazards of Coal Use: Coal has been combusted for fuel for thousands of years. However it was not until the last few decades that the consequences of coal use have been fully realized and effort has been taken to lessen the severe environmental harm that can come from the combustion of coal. The fact of the matter is no matter how much we may dislike coal and the detrimental effects of it we, as a nation, depend on coal to live our lives. When we flip a switch and a light turns on we don t give it a second thought but its not always that simple. Aside from coal s significant contribution to climate change there have been other disasters stemming from coal and specifically the storage of contaminants extracted from coal combustion. One of the biggest man made environmental disasters of the millennia occurred just outside of Kingston, Tennessee in late 2008. This disaster though not as well publicized as many other disasters has been estimated to have released over 5.4 million cubic yards of coal ash several times more contaminants by volume than the Exxon Valdeez oil spill in 1989 (Initial Emergency). Clean Coal Similar to most coal fired power plants in the United Stated today the Kingston Fossil Plant in Tennessee utilized various scrubbers , which effectively separated flue ash, also known as fly ash, a byproduct of the coal combustion process. Through the use of scrubbers fly ash is separated from the flue gases released into the atmosphere. Fly ash is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Is The Dichotomy In Relation To The Baptism In The Holy... Introduction This paper will compare and evaluate the views of John MacArthur and Keith Warrington, in relation to the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Particularly, focusing on their views as to whether the baptism in the Holy Spirit takes place as a consequence of conversion or subsequently, as a unique experience. Each author s views will be compared and evaluated using other academic sources, with special reference to Biblical evidence. Finally, a clear conclusion from the evaluation process will establish which argument is better founded Biblically. The Initial Argument John MacArthur, a Cessationist, claims that at the moment of salvation all believers are, baptised, indwelt and sealed with the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, MacArthur argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first part is found in John 20:22 and the second part is found in Acts 2:1 4. Warrington, claims that a partial filling of the Holy Spirit was given in John 20:22, with a fuller filling given in Acts 2:1 4. Furthermore, the first filling resulted in the authority to forgive and to withhold the forgiveness of sins, whilst the second filling resulted in a more permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 20:23, Acts 2:4). However, MacArthur counters this claim by stating that in John 20:22, the Holy Spirit was not given, but only promised. Evidence for this counterclaim is provided in John 20:26, whereby eight days after this, pledge to be filled with the Holy Spirit, the disciples are found to be locked inside through fear of the Jews. Therefore, the disciples must have lacked the Holy Spirit s manifest power and presence, proving that the Holy Spirit had not yet been given; a view supported by Köstenberger. • 9. The Vietnam War Era Of American History Stanley Karnow describes the Vietnam War era of American history as ...a tragedy of epic dimensions... 1 and it is fair to postulate that this is no understatement. One of the more pertinent ramifications of the Vietnam War was the deconstruction of fundamental, if somewhat illusory, American conceptions and ideals. The war shattered America s hitherto unshakeable confidence 2 in its political hegemony, military prowess and assumed authority in world order, i.e. ...its moral exclusivity, its military invincibility and manifest destiny... 3 The war that was never officially declared is one that American society and culture would rather unofficially forget. Karnow argues: ...in human terms...the war in Vietnam was a war that nobody won a struggle between victims... 4, moreover to augment this standpoint, I would argue that another significant and concurrent victim of the Vietnam War was, and still is, the truth. Memory is an intrinsic and integral facet of human existence, crucially affecting every aspect of our character, actions, emotions and experiences. Furthermore, as Marita Sturken suggests, ...memory establishes life s continuity...and provides the very core of identity.... 5, furthermore cultural memory is ...memory shared outside the avenues of formal historical discourse yet is entangled with cultural products and imbued with cultural meaning... 6 Therefore, it would be logical to assume that American cultural memory innately presupposes American cultural identity. Andy escapes by making a hole through the wall over a twenty year period and then during a stormy night, Andy breaks the sewage pipe by using a piece of concreate while it is masked by the sound of thunder. When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he was baptised because he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also escaped the corruption and money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering schemes otherwise he would make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in this scene was when Andy was breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then switch to the lightning strike through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the piece of concrete against the pipe. This film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience be on the edge of their seats. This scene if very significant to the story because this when Andy literally escapes from Shawshank and the themes displayed in the scene displays how much defiance and hope Andy really had. After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son that he didn t have in the past years. After those 18 months Kramer s wife comes to take the child back by filing for custody. There are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change America s perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on their careers than they were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses on women at the time. Also, steroids can cause men s testicals to shrink (Mitchell 55). Baseball players who use steroids are so mentally focused on the positive effects of steroids that they forget to think about the negative effects on mental health, the liver, the cardiovascular system, and the reproductive system. The main type of steroids causing all this chaos to the body are called Anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are used the most often in Major League Baseball (MLB). The reasons why MLB players get caught up in Anabolic steroids is because they have so much pressure on them to hit home runs, get on base, and entertain. To help them cope with their pressure, they turn to Anabolic steroids because of the fast gains and positive impacts players experience after treatment. This is a positive for baseball fans, who have seen an increase in home runs hit; for example, in just a five year span between 1961 and 1996, there was an increase of nine players who hit at least forty home runs in just one season. Anabolic steroids also make one s hands faster and they increase muscle in areas like the pectorals and forearms. • 22. An Examination Of Post Event Information ( Pei ) Another form of Post event information (PEI) is conformity, in the event that an individual witnesses a crime committed there is always the potential that there are co witnesses that also witnessed the crime, while an increase in witnesses may hold some positives there is the potential for conformity. Conformity takes place when one witnesses memories of a past event become more like another person s described memories of the same event (Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 462). Co witnesses often alter their memory reports to coincide with other witnesses reports (Goodwin K.A. et al., 2013, pg. 91). If a co witness is a friend or family then an individual is even more likely to conform to their views than they would be if the co witness was a stranger. Kieckhaefer and Wright also found evidence that another factor that increases a witnesses memory conformity is if the co witness is likable(Kieckhaefer, J.M. Wright, D.B., 2015, pg. 463). There have been multiple studies conducted where researchers use confederates, research helpers used to feed unknowing participants information, to determine whether or not participants will conform to the confederate s reports (Goodwin, K.A. et al., 2013, pg. 91). Many times the ethicality of such decisions have been questioned because of the profit driven strategies of these organizations. The article does not identify many other factors beyond culture that may account for differences in work behaviour across nations. Scholars like Parboteeah and Cullen (2003) have suggested the need to include noncultural factors to isolate the influence of culture on ethical behaviour. Also many scholars have talked about the other personal characteristics like education, age, gender and religion that affect the ethical decision making but they have not put any light on this part in the article. According to Kracher, Chatterjee and Lundquist, education plays an important and positive role in one s ethical decision making. • 24. Set It Off Themes Set It Off (1996) is an action packed, star studded film focusing on the lives of four African American female friends in a tough inner city environment who are willing to go to any length, including bank robbery, to escape the limitations and struggles of their gender, race, and socioeconomic status. According to director Gary Gray, the film is not so much about robbing banks as choices young sisters make when their backs are against the wall (Gregory 1996, 56). While the film has similar urban youth struggles found in many of the other ghettocentric films of the 1990s, Set It Off distinguishes itself in the genre due to presenting a largely unique all star cast of blacktresses and also for portraying themes concentrated on the plight ... However, in contrast to the other exclusively male dominated and themed films also released in the decade, when Set It Off was coauthored by Kate Lanier and Takashi Bufford in the early 1990s, it was intentionally grounded in close observation of the harsh realities faced by four female friends living in Los Angeles, California. In an opening scene, Frankie is fired for having a personal connection to a man who robs the bank where she is a bank teller even though she clearly has no involvement in the robbery. Stoney s younger brother is later that evening wrongfully gunned down by police at his own high school graduation ceremony when he is mistakenly identified as being the same neighborhood friend who had earlier robbed Frankie s bank. Because she is a single mother earning low wages and has no means to pay for childcare, T.T. s young son is taken away by child protective services when the child is injured at her janitorial job as soon as desperation forces her to bring him to work with her. Each of these closely chronological events, most notably T.T. s necessity to obtain money for legal fees in order to regain custody of her son, lead the foursome to form a pact to rob banks together. Cleo is the only friend who appears to have no clear aspiration to leave their urban lifestyle. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will examine the causes of secession, the initial political formation of the Confederate States of America, and the Southern citizens opinions of the Southern secession. Joyce Carol Oates Smooth Talk Compare and Contrast Essay Short stories don t always translate well into full length movies, but this movie, Smooth Talk, by Joyce Chopra, is a wonderful work based on the story, Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been, by Joyce Carol Oates. The movie is very different from the original work, both have the same storyline, both talk about a teenage girl name Connie. When putting these two together, while similarity in many ways, but at the same time, they both have differences throughout the entire story, from what we imagine of the characters to the ending of the story. As in the short story, the story is more about Connie and Oates only uses a few sentences to describe her family members, she doesn t provide much detail either. On the other hand, in the movie by Joyce Chopra, she adds a few scene and even developing further more into the other characters, such as the mother, father and her older sister, June. The main theme is still about Connie but also about her family. By doing this, it can create more connection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new ending solves all the conflict between the mother and Connie when they finally accept each other. • 28. Southwest Airlines Merger BASIC STRATEGY: In order to make up for increasing expenses Southwest needs to expand. My recommended strategy for Southwest to pursue, is to merge with Air Tran and expand into areas where Air Tran has a heavy presence and Southwest has none. With Southwest having a weak presence in the southeastern U.S., a key area to expand would be Atlanta s Hartsfield Jackson International, which is the busiest airport in the U.S. There is obviously a need for the low air fare company at this site. Southwest s unique approach of no extra charge for luggage and extra friendly service should help Southwest. The merger is estimated to cost Southwest $1.4 billion dollars; Air Trans income for 2010 was around $128 million, and along with the 138 new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Updates should be kept daily on Southwest s website and up to date information should be presented to all passengers when booking flights. Television commercials should be ran (especially around the Atlanta area) showing newly remodeled planes that once carried AirTran customers and show major improvements appealing to both vacationers and business travelers. Strong communication on how the AirTran frequent flyer miles will implemented by Southwest. This could be an area of major conflicts between Southwest and old loyal AirTran customers, but strong communication could easily prevent many conflicts. Shared Values: The unique culture and values of Southwest Airlines has been one of the key factors of Southwest s success over the years. Southwest s CEO feels that the employees of Southwest are the company s single greatest strength and most enduring long term competitive advantage. Getting AirTran s acquired employees to commit to the shared vision of the company will be another key implementation lever during the acquisition process. Southwest really values a fun and loving atmosphere among employees and passengers. Employees and management go out of their ways to implement these values and AirTran employees will be expected to share these values as well as management strives for total alignment. (Successful ... It went from marginal status to powerful region in a few hundred years. What did this process look like? Be sure to address this at the various levels (ideological, behavioral, institutional, material etc.). Are there reasons for this dominance that are more important than others? Looking back at the world in the past few hundred years, it would have been difficult to imagine that one day, majority of Western Europe would come to dominate the world in global economy (Landes, European Exceptionalism: A Different Path, 1998). Frank (2001) described the process of which the western society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In such environment, policies of scientific and social inactivity could stand because of tradition or culture. On the other hand, Europe was geographically set in reduced, closer, but with larger number of groups, surrounded and separated by small rivers and mountains, thus, governments that repressed economic and scientific development soon amended their errors or were out done rapidly (Pomeranz, 2000). The early western world benefitted from revenues from trading European products to the Eastern countries (Pomeranz, 2000). High earnings obtained from trading with eastern countries and sales of slave established seven percent profit per annum, which is a relatively high rate of return considering the high rate of depreciation on pre industrial capital stocks, which limited the amount of savings and capital accumulation , stated Pomeranz (2000). Many theories suggest that the Great Divergence occurred as a result of trade development from Europe to Asia, which later on became the main factor of the New World. As, Pomeranz (2000) stated, the greatest significant advantage for Europe was the vast amount of fertile, uncultivated land in the North America which could be used to grow large quantities of farm products required to sustain European economic growth and allowed labour and land to be freed up in Europe for industrialization. • 32. Why Thyroid Gland Important Why is Your Thyroid Gland So Important? The thyroid is a gland that is found in the lower, front section of the neck, just below the Adam s apple. It wraps around the windpipe (trachea) and supports the voice box (larynx). It is a rich source of blood vessels, and its shape resembles a butterfly because of its two side lobes that are joined in the middle by a bridge (isthmus). The function of the thyroid gland is to manufacture and store the body s important hormones that support the internal regulation of body temperature, blood pressure levels, and the heart beat rhythm. • 33. The Relationship Between Export Processing Zones Export Processing Zones Name Institution Date Introduction The relationship between Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and globalization, Neoliberalism, global governing institutions and the 1980s debt crisis has attracted a lot of debate in the economic circles. It is widely believed that EPZs have helped in the development of the globalization project. Economists believe that the rise and growth of EPZs was enabled by the neoliberal strategies that global governing institutions such as the World Bank and the IMF instituted after the 1980s debt crisis in Latin America. In his book titled Development and Social Change , McMichael deals with critical events that led to globalization. These include Neoliberalism, the debt crisis and the rise of export processing zones. This paper will investigate these interrelationships and conclude that there is a key relationship between EPZ and the globalization project, and the rise and growth of the EPZ with the neoliberal actions of key global governing institutions especially after the 1980s debt crisis. EPZ and the Growth of the Globalization Project. Globalization is the process through which the world is becoming increasingly interconnected due to massive increase in cultural exchanges and trade.
