Telus Essay
Telus: The Cost of Capital
Business 3019
Synopsis

Two managers attending an executive education course attempt to develop a cost of capital estimate
for a leading telecommunications company, Telus The two managers are somewhat confused about the
costs of various sources of capital, the calculation of the overall cost of capital and the appropriate use
of the hurdle rate

What Does Cost of Capital Mean?

Cost of capital is what it will cost the firm, on the margin, today, to secure its financial resources for
further growth.
Cost of capital must reflect current capital market conditions (current required returns) Cost of capital
must also reflect the optimal relative proportions of debt and equity the firm will ... Show more

In November 2001, the costs of required rates of return on debt in the capital market are as follows:
Government long term bonds Telus long term bonds Bank prime rate Telus short term notes 5.82%


Since Telus uses both long term bonds and short term notes, the current required rates are the starting
point, but they must be adjusted for two factors:

The costs of issuing the financing, and The fact that interest payments are deductible for tax purposes.

The tax rate is estimated from case Exhibit 2 as Income Taxes ($496 million) divided by Earnings

interest on the company s total debt is approximately 3.8%: $317 million of interest / $8,361 million
of debt. However, this calculation is misleading since the 2000 debt is much larger than the 1999 debt
of $2,270 (not in the case). You should ask yourself...should you use current yields or historical yields
when calculating the cost of debt? Current yield figures should be used because Telus is considering

Tuberculosis Is A Disease That Affects Other Populations
Tuberculosis is a disease that affects many individuals throughout the world, and not always with the
same prevalence rates. For this research paper my goal is to explain and illustrate why certain
populations tend to have higher infection rates of tuberculosis than the average population in the
United States and what causes these higher rates. At what point do health officials step in and work on
prevention in these specific populations and why are we not implementing the tuberculosis shot for
these populations? The topic of Tuberculosis is significant as it affects many populations, but it also
does not affect all populations equally. Tuberculosis has an increased prevalence rate in homeless
individuals, African Americans, and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are currently a variety of vaccinations that are being tested and/or used throughout the world,
although they are rarely used in the United States (Kupferschmidt, 2011). There are several research
centers across the nation that are taking part of the research and development of these new vaccines
including Harvard University and the University of California, Los Angeles (Kupferschmidt, 2011).
These vaccinations are of great importance to some individuals, but its use is not perfect across all
samples (Kupferschmidt, 2011). Tuberculosis was first discovered as a disease in 1882 by a scientist
named Robert Koch (Rothman, 1994). Within a short period of time it was discovered that this was an
infectious disease, along with being a disease that affected certain populations (Rothman, 1994). It
was discovered that a vast majority of the individuals affected were either immigrant, therefore
generally a minority population, or were of poor or working class status (Rothman, 1994). Several
movements and directives were used during this time to attempt to stop the spread of tuberculosis,
such as, being outside in the clean air as much as possible, not drinking alcohol, and drinking plenty of
clean water, among others (Rothman, 1994). Between 1906 and 1919 a vaccine was developed by
Albert Calmette and Camille Geurin, a pair of French scientists, to help prevent this terrible disease
(Kupferschmidt, 2011). This BCG vaccine, or Bacillus

Palestine has a right, under international and natural law, to self determination under the borders
which existed prior to Israel s formation in 1948. The natural governing authority of the new
Palestinian State to be formed within these borders is the Palestinian Authority (PLO) currently led by
Mahmoud Abbas. Given that land was stolen from Palestinian natural sovereignty via actions taken by
Israel in wars which Palestine proper was not a participant to, Israel must also pay reparations to the
Palestinian State as well as its citizens so as to compensate for the crimes against humanity which it
has committed over the course of the last several decades. Cemented by the renunciation of violence
which the PLO has undertaken, Palestinians can no longer be held accountable for the actions of
Hamas and other terrorist groups, and an independent Palestinian state commits to joining the War on
Terror righteously fought by Israel and its allies.
The Minimal Acceptable Borders of a Palestinian State Beginning with the minimal acceptable
borders of a Palestinian State, these must be congruent with the original United Nations Settlement
plan put forth by the UN prior to Israeli conquest in 1949 With Rowntree et al. (2014) noting that the
original 1948 borders of Israel were already in violation of the proposed United Nations Settlement,

National Health Care For The United States
According to Cothran (2015), Over the past five decades, there have been major shifts in how we pay
for hospital care, physician services, long term care, prescription drugs, and other services and
products . Before Medicare and Medicaid, about half of hospital care was not covered by insurance.
About 100 % of the spending on prescription medications came from the customers in the 1960s
(Cothran, 2015). But, in 2014, customers spent 15% less. Team B will explain our position on national
health care spending in the United States. We will also include: current national health care costs, if
we are spending too much or not, should we add or cut spending and why, how health care needs are

The pharmaceutical industry is yet another part of health care that is receiving immense profits from
its advertisements and a physician prescribing only certain medications. The truth is that some of the
medicines can cause more harm than good. So who s really profiting? Truth is, that the physicians and
pharmaceutical companies are benefiting; when the doctor prescribes medications that causes more
issues than it cures, a revolving door is created so that the physicians and pharmaceutical companies
can keep gaining profits. For instance, if a patient receives medicine to treat an ailment and it creates
more health issues then the doctor will now keep prescribing medications to fix an issue, when it is
actually making the patient worse. By creating a need the companies are able to keep themselves
afloat. The federal budget was 3.8 trillion for the 2015 fiscal year. The government to take care of
each and every American divides the 3.8 trillion; this comes to about 12,000 per American ( National
Priorities Project , 2015). Over 90% of federal monies are used for mandatory and discretionary
spending. The rest is spent on interest that the government has accumulated. 1.11 trillion is the
equivalent of what was spent in discretionary spending in 2015. About 60% was spent on military and
government, 6% on education, the rest was divided almost equally 5% or less on: veteran s benefits,

Summary Of Fifty Shades Freed
With the anticipation of Fifty Shades Darker coming out, it seems Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan
are already gearing up for Fifty Shades Freed. The two were spotted wandering up and down the Cote

bikini while photographers were taking pictures like crazy. Is this the scene from the Fifty Shades
Freed novel where the two lovers were already on their honeymoon? It must be that because Dakota
suddenly went topless to sunbathe while her co star Jamie Dornan approached her for some massage.
The sweetest part was when Jamie made sure his co star was all covered up with a towel whenever
they were not being filmed. According to reports, in the same

Professional Learning Community Observation
For the Professional Learning Community (PLC) experience, I chose to observe a PLC. For this
assignment, I observed an eighth grade English PLC. This PLC was comprised of three English
teachers and one student teacher. There was not a written agenda for their PLC, but they seemed to
have an order to how their meeting was held. The began by discussing the unit that they were
completing which was using Greek Mythology to review and analyze student s reading
comprehension and summary writing abilities. They stated that their students seemed to be really
interested in the unit and did well with the reading comprehension. However, they had noticed that
some students were forgetting to state the title and author of the text within the summary and most
summaries lacked elaboration, but most students were knowledgeable about the basic structure of a
summary. As most students understood the basic structure, they decided that they were going to
transition onto the next unit which focused on informative essay writing, but modify the unit in order
to teach students the importance of including the title and author within a summary and ... Show more

Dr. Abbott s Sin And The Battle For America s Soul
By the year 2015, it has been long since brothels have lined the streets of well known cities to the
extent in which they did during the early 1900 s. While there are still a few legal brothels in Nevada
and in some foreign countries, we usually find similar sorts in the forms of gentleman clubs or strip
clubs nowadays. When examining the early 1900 s and our current modernity, there are, of course,
both extreme and subtle similarities and differences. In Karen Abbott s novel, Sin in the Second City:
Madams, Ministers, Playboys and the Battle for America s Soul, there is no pronounced comparison of
our modern world with the one of the past, but we can insightfully see that we are not so different.

The changes resulting in a more modern America were: emergence of big business and industrial
systems, immigration, urbanization, and the challenge to faith and confidence. First of all, many
immigrants traveled to America, the land of opportunity, with their hearts and minds set on finding
work to support their families and to start anew. The growth of railroads created towns and cities,
which then grew as big businesses sprung up, and finally expanded further as immigrants invaded
these cities in search of cheap jobs. The inflow of foreigners caused Americans to be resentful and
move to the suburbs. Many middle class people did not want to live near the new ethnic
neighborhoods as they feared the varying races and religious affiliations. This growth in modernity
resulted in a positive growth in technological devices such as telephones and street cars. On the other
hand, the negative aspects, such as how cities were becoming overcrowded, unsanitary, filled with
disease, and politically corrupted, may have outweighed the good parts of the city. The most important
aspects, revolved around Europeans opening saloons and Madams and pimps opening brothels, both
of which contributed to revolutions with churches, temperance activists, anti cigarette reformers and
more. The importance of immigration in this situation results from the excessive number of
immigrants compared to American s

can be a lot for a teen. Maybe your among those adults who carries severe acne clear into adulthood.
Being a teen or a grown up with Acne may be hard, but theres help available. Acne Vulgaris,
commonly referred to as acne, impacts almost 17 million individuals in the United States alone. This
common condition of the skin turns up as different types of bumps on the skin. They include things

most severe cases youre going to get Nodules and Cysts. It normally shows up on the face, neck,

come while developing through puberty. As your body starts to produce, these hormones stimulate the
sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, and the glands may become overactive. If you have too
much sebum, that oil clogs up the pores and results in acne. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Research Paper On Toads
Most frogs are born in water as tadpoles and gradually change into frogs although some frogs, known
as direct developers, are born as full frogs. This allows them to be born and live far away from water,
such as on mountaintops. Frogs can be found on every continent in the world except Antarctica.
However, the highest concentration of frogs is found in warmer tropical climes. Like frogs, toads are
amphibians. They differ from most frogs in fact they have dry skin, warts, crests behind the eyes, and
parotoid glands. The parotoid glands produce a poisonous secretion that helps to defend the toad from
predators. Many different species of toads live throughout the United States. Toads are also found on
every other continent excluding Antarctica.

Expiration Dates
The concept of event related sterility is one that required teamwork and cooperation in order to
convert existing policies into this new one. The idea of not using expiration dates was hard for some
but, when presented with the information and cost effectiveness it was difficult not to take a closer
look at how this new procedure could and would benefit health care facilities. Armed with new
policies and more training, health care workers were ready for the challenge of implementing this new
idea.
Introduction The sterilization process has been in use for a very long time. The use of expiration dates
gave, and still gives, a period in which items are sterile and may be put to use during a procedure. This
system works, but is costly and labor intensive. Although this process works, there is another way of
maintaining the sterility of items. Louis Pasteur proved it. Louis Pasteur sterilized flasks in 1863,
more than 130 years ago. These flasks, which are stored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Approval had to be gained by showing the facility that it was going to benefit everyone involved and
that it was in compliance with state and local laws as well as with accrediting organizations. Some
examples of what had to be done are defining policy goals, development of a cost benefit analysis, a
rotation policy had to be in place, and new training programs had to be established. These, along with
a labeling policy and testing for quality assurance, helped to maintain the process.
Benefits
Event related sterility is cost effective compared to the use of expiration dates since outdated
packaging material does not have to be removed and thrown away causing items to be rewrapped.
Also, since there are no expiration dates, expired items do not have to be pulled for reprocessing
which cuts down on time and labor. Personnel are able to focus on other things that require their
attention.

information for auditors and management. A deeper look into financial statements and the many
concepts surrounding them are needed to explain in more detail. It s also important to recognize the

Next, the receivables would decrease and give the balance left. Lack of copayments and a number of
reasons of patients not paying their bills or copays not collected. The final result shows a bad debt
balance of the percentage of uncollected copays and the amount of copays collected giving the

Inventory is important to consider for the balance sheet as it s listed after receivables since its less
liquid than receivables. This is how patient care services are provided from inventory. The process
starts when the services have been provided, notification of a bill sent to patient, then accounts
receivables grow. As a result, inventory takes longer to convert to cash than receivables because it
hasn t been used to provide services. Next, cash is the most universal way to pay for items. Also, cash
includes amounts on deposit in checking and savings accounts and cash on hand. Marketable
securities are listed to be probably liquidated in the near future. A beneficial factor of marketable
securities is they can be converted into cash in only a few days. In addition, marketable securities that
the organization intends to hold as long term investments shouldn t be listed with current assets, but
instead under a long term investment category after fixed assets, (Finkler, S.A., Ward, D.M. Calabrese,
I.D., 2013).

Analysis Of `` No Country For Old Men ``
In Cormac McCarthy s No Country For Old Men, fate plays a significant role in the novel and is
present in the lives of each of the characters he portrays. Fate, as defined in the dictionary, is the will
or principle or determining cause by which things in general are believed to come to be as they are or
events to happen as they do. The theme of fate is demonstrated in all of the characters in the novel, but
most evidently in Llewellyn Moss, Ed Tom Bell, Carla Jean, Carson Wells, and Anton Chigurh. Fate is
the main difference that lies between all of these characters. In his interactions with other characters,
Anton Chigurh continually suggests that each and every choice we make determines our fate. The
most critical character in the entire novel is the antagonist Anton Chigurh: a psychopathic hit man who
kills almost everyone he meets. Chigurh is completely eccentric and strictly abides to a moral code; he
believes that he is an agent of fate, and that each and every choice we make determines our fate, no
matter how small. This moral code is demonstrated in each of Chigurh s interactions with the other
characters. Throughout the novel it is not known if fate is necessarily either good or bad but it does
not really matter because in the end the inevitable is going to happen. In this novel, McCarthy
suggests that regardless of what path we choose, life will always end in death. Chigurh embodies this
philosophy and throughout the novel he consistently serves as a reminder

Group Mind
The Group Mind
People change to the atmosphere. If you are with a friend you can watch how this attitude changes
from when he is with you to when he is set in the group mind around other peers. You can also look at
yourself. Humans act on their natural instincts and if you look at yourself and how you act when you
are alone compared to how you act in the group mind setting, you will see that you almost dumb
yourself down to a level that you think will help you fit in with your friends. If we could just open our
eyes, we would see how repetitive and dumb we think inside of our group minds. When you are alone
you think about things that are natural to everybody, such as how to improve yourself. Your time alone

Then when I was with my friends it completely changed into dirty, mindless jokes and wanting to do
things that I would never want my parents to know about. I noticed that no matter who I was around I
found it hard to just be myself and the fact that I have been unconsciously doing it all this time made
me think of what it would be like if I was just myself or different from what everybody thinks of me.
Unfortunately, I never could bring up the courage to be different, so I started to change some of the
little things that I did around my friends. I began to lose the interest of my friends and they didn t
invite me to as many things or call me to go hang out. Surprisingly, I was ok with it. Changing the
way that I acted with my friends made me realize that they were never really my friends. They just

know now that they are all just acquaintances that I have had some fun times with. As Doris Lessing
says in her essay, When we re in a group mind, we tend to think as that group does. It is the hardest
thing in the world to maintain an individual dissent opinion as a member of a group. The world is
filled with group minds, not only in people but in societies as well. If the majority of a society takes a
stance on a subject the rest that don t actually agree in their mind will unconsciously conform to the

Characteristics Of Ngo Dinh Diem
Ngo Dinh Diem was a man who had been described by many different titles. This was due to the many
decisions he made in order to advance in his political career. There is evidence which proves that
Diem had both nationalist and opportunist characteristics in him. This essay will investigate whether
he was predominately a nationalist or an opportunist through an analysis of different sources which
exhibit what Ngo Dinh Diem did. The essay will investigate whether he was a nationalist or an
opportunist by analysing the state in which South Vietnam was in, the decisions which Diem made
and how the people of South Vietnam and the world reacted to them.
A nationalist is defined as somebody who tries to obtain political independence for their country. An
opportunist is defined as somebody who takes advantage of circumstances to their benefit. In Source

political success. This suggests that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What is the relationship between the citizen and the state? We are not citizens but subjects, being
subjected to the ruling of one power. We claim that we despise the government and that the
government is out to get us, but if you think of what our society would be without a government we
would be in total chaos. Sometimes we try to free ourselves from the state, and run, just as Tim O
Brien did in On the Rainy River. O Brien didn t want to be drafted out to a war in which he didn t

934) Goldsmith strongly believes that we are citizens of the world and that we only have as much
power as we give to ourselves. The government wouldn t house nearly as much power as it does if we

of. The state relies on this allegiance by the citizen. It s just like the reliance between the press and the
government. The press too is made up solely of citizens. The press influences what the public thinks
about that government by the stories and editorials that they publish, and the government influences
what the press publishes by giving out press releases. They depend on each other in a complex
manner. The state has control over citizens but no real connection with these citizens. The majority
rule cannot determine justice. Thoreau had said in On the Duty of Civil Disobedience , I think that we

Self Regulated Learning
Self Regulated Learning
Learning is what most adults will do for a living in the 21st century. (Alfred Perlman). As he said,
there is no doubt that learning is a very important skill especially in modern society because of the
knowledge explosion and rapid developing of information technology. However, there are different
results with different learning methods. Good learning method can lead to success easier, on the
contrary, poor learning method means wasting time and energy. Therefor, self regulated learning is
presented by numerous eminent scholars as a excellent learning method. Self regulated learning is not
a mental ability or an academic performance skill; rather it is the self directive process by which
learners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And many researches have proved that learning strategies can help students be more successful. Pei
Shi. W(2012) has found that most successful students use learning strategies more frequently and
effectively than unsuccessful students. We can explain the research in this way. A learning strategy is a
student s approach to learning and using information. However students who do not know or use good
learning strategies often learn passively and ultimately fail at study. Learning strategies are used by
students to help them understand information and solve problems. Successful students are good much
good at using it, meanwhile, learning strategy can make the students be more active and effective,
because the students know how to learn and how to use what they have learned to solve problems, and
lead them to success.
At last, motivation is another important component of self regulated learning to help students be more
successful in their academic endeavors. Motivation in common is defined as an internal process that
activates, guides, and maintains behavior over time. In other words motivation gets you going, keeps
you going, and determines where you re trying to go (Slavin 2000). Particular in self regulated
learning, motivation is the sprint to encourage students to drive their academic goals toward the finish
line directly, the sprint is initiative and voluntary. Motivation can help students

Below Knee Amputation Essay
In the United States alone, 1.9 million Americans who undergone a limb amputation. The most
common surgery is the below knee amputation with about half of lower limb amputations being below
limb amputations. Each year in the United States it is estimated that 185,000 amputations are
executed. In 2012 3,475 of those amputees were located in the state of Tennessee. From the years
2001 to 2012 there were 42,941 amputations preformed in the state of Tennessee. While that number
seems large, it only accounted for 2.5 percent of the amputation procedures that were done in the
United States during these years. Because in the increase in education and training that surgeons and
therapist undergo, most patients with below knee amputations are able to recover fully or get close to

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper
Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed
unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets levels.
Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The
megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood cells
circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury occurs. They do
this by agglutinating, or sticking to themselves at the site of the injury. Platelets are responsible for
activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have adequate platelets, such
as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood. For a simple scratch it is not
too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can experience internal bleeding that
can be fatal if not treated. Two symptoms are hallmarks for ITP. They include petichiae, micro
hemorrhaging of vessels that typically occurs on the lower extremities and purpura, excessive bruising
of the skin from minor bumps and cuts. Through history ITP has not only ... Show more content on

Usually trials are completed on patients, but considering the ethics of such trials they may not occur.
Instead in the 1950 s a group of doctors at Barnes Hospital in St Louis opted to test their treatment
theories on themselves (Idiopathic, 2014). Harrington transfused blood from a patient with chronic
ITP into himself so that the effects on the bone marrow could be studied (Idiopathic, 2014). The
results from the study determined that the bone marrow was not affected and therefore ITP was related
to the platelets themselves. The Harrington Hollingsworth experiment had given the disease an origin,
the platelets themselves. The name of the disease was changed to what it is now considered, immune

What Is Occlusion As A Mechanical Instrument That...
Introduction: Occlusion has been described as the most important subject in all the disciplines of
dentistry, since it represents the way the teeth come together, and functions together. In restorative
cases, where the patient is completely or partially edentulous, an articulator is needed, which is a
mechanical device the holds the opposing casts, in order to be able to study the occlusion as in the
patients mouth. This device; articulator, has different objectives and types, that will be discussed in the
coming pages. Definition: An articulator is a mechanical instrument that represents the
temporomandibular joints and jaws. The attachment between the TMJ and jaws with the maxillary and
mandibular casts simulate some or all of the mandibular movements, which takes place around the
TMJ which is capable of undergoing complex movements. An articulator is considered as any
instrument which has a movable joint on which the maxillary and mandibular casts can be mounted.
These mandibular movements can be rotation around the hinge axis, rotation around the antero
posterior axis, rotation around the vertical axis, and translation. Numerous articulators are available
for the restoration of occlusion. Objectives: Holding the casts in the same relative position that takes
place in the mouth Allow motion similar to that TMJ s motion Duplicate the dental border movements
Diagnose dental occlusal conditions, in both, natural and artificial dentitions.

Parental Control In Romeo And Juliet
We ve called it Family Safety. We are calling it Family Safety rather than Parental Control because
people don t like that term. Both parent and definitely child don t like the idea of controlling, blocking,
or spying on them or others (written by unknown). Most parents think to have control of your child is
the way parenting works. Some of these parents find that their child rebels against their very specific
instructions. Between parent and child, their will always be a aspect of control and rebellion but this is
because it could feel like the parent doesn t trust the kid, the kid disagrees with the judgement call, and
it has been proven to happen through surveys. In Romeo and Juliet s time, when parents tried to use

No, It s Parents by Somini Sengupta, the article states many ways that parents control and or have
surveillance over their kids. It also says how children are rebelling against their parent because the
parent is trying to enforce rules and or just be too controlling for the children s liking. When a parent
tries to control the child, the child feels the need to push back and get their ground back. This what
happens between parent and child. The Pew Research Center did studying to figure out if there is a
connection between parents controlling their kids and if the child rebels. Surveys from the Pew
Research Center found ...this monitoring is also likely to lead to arguments between parent and child
(Somini Sengupta para 14). There is study that shows that if the parents are controlling and or having
surveillance that arguments will happen because the kid is pushing back and is going to rebel. The
Pew Research Center found this out by surveys by real people. Children will also choose to do it their
own way if they feel like they don t know what their parent is doing. They also feel like their parent
isn t respecting the child s freedom and don t trust them. Ms. Clark is an author who has written many
books about parenting styles has an insight that is helpful and shows the connection between control
and rebellion. Ms. Clark the author says it s too easy to get involved in surveillance... that undermines

My Design Of Sighting A Gun
I. The purpose for my design is to speed up the process of sighting a gun in, the scope to take into
compensate the parabolic launch of a bullet, and to hit to target bulls eye. Sighting in a gun requires a
long trial and error process that any hunter, marine, or police sniper would agree upon. As a bullet is
fired from a rifle it rises a few inches for about one hundred yards or more where it descends below
the axis of the barrel. The scope looks like any other scope but will account for the parabolic launch
and relocate its self to the correct position for the most accurate shot. Nikon is a company that
produces quality scopes and would be a good contestant for the idea. They support their products
being brighter, clearer, precise, and rugged, but these are just a few of the attributes knowledgeable
hunters commonly use to describe Nikon riflescopes. Nikon is determined to bring hunters, shooters,
and sportsmen a wide selection of the best hunting optics money can buy while at the same time
pushing the envelope to create revolutionary capabilities for the serious hunter (Nikon). The design
would also need an electrical engineer to design the wiring and microchips/sensors, but a mechanical
engineer from Power Electrics would also be needed to fit the motor for the positioning of the scope. I
would like to arrange a meeting for all of us to discuss and perfect the idea. II. The scope, Buck Slayer
by Slade Mills and Nikon, will be about the same size as any other

History Of Copyright Law With Indian Context Essay
HISTORY OF COPYRIGHT LAW WITH INDIAN CONTEXT:
India has one of the oldest academic traditions with formal education finding a place in its ancient
history. The universities of Takshila and Nalandaare great centers of learning in the early world,
teaming with students and teachers from all parts of the world, not to say about the great Gurukul
tradition in the age old past. However, those are the days when learning was considered as gift of God,
freely received and freely given. Over the centuries, the learning approach gradually changed. Old
traditions paved way for new ones. New economic models and institutional structures emerged.
Concept of copyright in literary works found a place inIndia by the nineteenth century.
India had its first Copyright Law enacted on 18th December 1847 much earlier than many other
countries. The scope of the Act covered books only and no other kinds of creative expressions. It
isinteresting to read the title of that legislation: An Act for the encouragement of learningin the
territories subject to the Government of the East India Company, bydefining and providing for the
enforcementof the right called copyright therein .The scope of that Act covered only books and no
other kinds of creativeexpressions. It is, however, remarkablethat the Act provided for compulsory
license to publish a book, which theoriginal publisher had refused to republishso that books in demand
are not withheld from the public. Although suchlegislation existed, the Bombay

The Size Of Connecticut, El Salvador
The size of Connecticut, El Salvador is one of Central America s most densely populated countries
and has the highest mortality rate in the world. First conquered by the Spaniards in the early 1500s, El
Salvador s history is filled with tension, violence, and exclusion; the settlers robbed the indigenous
people of their land and forced them to slave in the coffee plant fields. Not only were the indigenous
people deprived of their land, it was kept in the hands of the elite, creating little to no social mobility
and further subjugating native Salvadorans. As discontent and tension increased between the elite and
the poor, a massacre occurred on January 22, 1932 that was carried out by the National Guard, killing
between 10,000 and 40,000 peasants most of whom were indigenous people. The slaughter ignited a
fire among the Salvadoran people that was fueled by unfulfilled promises of socio economic parity
and agrarian reform. In 1979 a civil war broke loose, Salvadorans were disappearing, illegally
detained by the military, and killed. Maria Teresa Tula, a Salvadoran woman of indigenous decent
shares her first hand experience with violence in her work Hear My Testimony; as the wife of a union
member, Maria Teresa was catapulted into a world where the government captured and killed her
husband. In order to find answers Maria Teresa joined a civil society made up of women known as
COMADRES, an organization dedicated to helping the families of the disappeared and finding their

The Irrational Consumer Culture Surrounding Education
In his book Why Teach?, Mark Edmundson constructs an argument about the paradoxical consumer
culture surrounding education. The Virginian professor takes a stance on the problems that he has both
experienced in his own classroom and observed on campuses, and he approaches each problem in
turn, making significant claims which are assigned appropriate blames. His essay, Liberal Arts Lite
Entertainment, originally published in 1997, is broken into six sections and begins with his experience
at his own university before branching out to all those across the country. Following this is a
deduction of student culture as well as professors. He gives hope to the idea of the acceptance and
praising of genius (as opposed to the alienation students endorse so well) towards the end of his essay,
narrowing his argument down to a more specific change that could possibly cause a domino effect
from individual students to universities across America. The scale of the situation is much too large to
be easily fixed, and it is clear that Edmundson s purpose in writing this essay is to inform those who
are engulfed in the academic world. More specifically, it seems, he targets professors and higher level
students, and even possibly their parents. By singling out these people and making the problem of
consumer culture in universities known to those who care exponentially about educating the youth, it
is much more likely that Edmundson s argument will trickle down to said youth in the process

Repercussions of Julius Caesar s Poor Leadership
William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar highlights how weak leaders affect society s condition.
Shakespeare displays this through the actions of multiple characters, one of whom is Julius Caesar, a
Roman general and senator greatly favored by the people. Caesar enters the play by ignoring a
soothsayer s omen to beware the ides of March, an action that is indicative of his belief in his personal
invulnerability. Caesar s continuous disregard of warnings of his death manifests into his ultimate
demise. Shakespeare extrapolates Caesar s arrogance, physical weakness, and unfortunate fate to
elucidate how rulers with similar traits would eventually fail and foment disarray between their
people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This is shown when Calpurnia begs him not to go to the meeting, and he initially agrees to stay home

being. In fact he says, Danger knows full well/ That Caesar is more dangerous than he (A2S2L46 47)

crown three times makes him likable and allows Antony to persuade the citizens to seek revenge
against Cassius and Brutus. Although Caesar is arrogant at most times, his slight

Batman In The Black Glove
Batman R.I.P characterizes the dramatic rise and fall of Batman at the hand of The Black Glove. This
story is as much an emotional roller coaster for the reader as it is for the Batman. The setting of the
story begins 6 months prior to the events of the book. Batman nearly dies under the treatment of a
psychologist, later revealed to be, Le Bossu, an important member of the Black Glove. with Dr. Hurt,
the leader of The Black Glove, announcing to other members of The Black Glove his plan to destroy
Batman once and for all. While The Black Glove (and Joker) plan their destruction of Batman,

He is the force that is able to break Batman. Through his disguise as a psychologist, he is able to
condition and break Batman s mind and use the Zur En Arrh persona to destroy him. Le Bossu s
physical description is interesting too. He looks very much like an evil scientist, with the hunched
back, a wide smile, and glasses. This sells the idea that he is smart, but also villainy. Le Bossu,
contributes greatly to establishing the crime ring in Gotham City during Batman s absence. Le Bossu s
confidence in his ability to defeat Batman and how he s able to disguise himself makes him a fearful,
yet adaptive character.

Annotated Bibliography On Digital Forensics
Digital forensics is a fairly new science involving the collection and analysis of data from digital
devices. However, the evolution of technology into smaller, mobile devices has made it necessary for
the creation of mobile forensics. Mobile forensics is a subset of digital forensics, which is focused on
the preservation, acquisition, examination, analysis, and reporting of digital evidence from mobile
devices. Even though the digital forensics process can be utilized for mobile devices, the model is not
perfected. Gonzalez and Hung (2011) attribute this issue to the young age of mobile devices and the

  • 2. Telus Essay Telus: The Cost of Capital Business 3019 Synopsis  Two managers attending an executive education course attempt to develop a cost of capital estimate for a leading telecommunications company, Telus The two managers are somewhat confused about the costs of various sources of capital, the calculation of the overall cost of capital and the appropriate use of the hurdle rate  What Does Cost of Capital Mean?  Cost of capital is what it will cost the firm, on the margin, today, to secure its financial resources for further growth. Cost of capital must reflect current capital market conditions (current required returns) Cost of capital must also reflect the optimal relative proportions of debt and equity the firm will ... The costs of issuing the financing, and The fact that interest payments are deductible for tax purposes. What is the Cost of Debt?

Note that, in 2001, interest on the company s total debt is approximately 3.8%: $317 million of interest / $8,361 million of debt. However, this calculation is misleading since the 2000 debt is much larger than the 1999 debt of $2,270 (not in the case). You should ask yourself...should you use current yields or historical yields when calculating the cost of debt? Current yield figures should be used because Telus is considering ... For this research paper my goal is to explain and illustrate why certain populations tend to have higher infection rates of tuberculosis than the average population in the United States and what causes these higher rates. At what point do health officials step in and work on prevention in these specific populations and why are we not implementing the tuberculosis shot for these populations? The topic of Tuberculosis is significant as it affects many populations, but it also does not affect all populations equally. Tuberculosis has an increased prevalence rate in homeless individuals, African Americans, and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are currently a variety of vaccinations that are being tested and/or used throughout the world, although they are rarely used in the United States (Kupferschmidt, 2011). There are several research centers across the nation that are taking part of the research and development of these new vaccines including Harvard University and the University of California, Los Angeles (Kupferschmidt, 2011). These vaccinations are of great importance to some individuals, but its use is not perfect across all samples (Kupferschmidt, 2011). Tuberculosis was first discovered as a disease in 1882 by a scientist named Robert Koch (Rothman, 1994). Within a short period of time it was discovered that this was an infectious disease, along with being a disease that affected certain populations (Rothman, 1994). It was discovered that a vast majority of the individuals affected were either immigrant, therefore generally a minority population, or were of poor or working class status (Rothman, 1994). Several movements and directives were used during this time to attempt to stop the spread of tuberculosis, such as, being outside in the clean air as much as possible, not drinking alcohol, and drinking plenty of clean water, among others (Rothman, 1994). Between 1906 and 1919 a vaccine was developed by Albert Calmette and Camille Geurin, a pair of French scientists, to help prevent this terrible disease (Kupferschmidt, 2011). • 5. The Plo As The Palestinian Sovereign The Legitimacy of the PLO as the Palestinian Sovereign Full Name Name of University Recitation Section TA Name Palestine has a right, under international and natural law, to self determination under the borders which existed prior to Israel s formation in 1948. The natural governing authority of the new Palestinian State to be formed within these borders is the Palestinian Authority (PLO) currently led by Mahmoud Abbas. Given that land was stolen from Palestinian natural sovereignty via actions taken by Israel in wars which Palestine proper was not a participant to, Israel must also pay reparations to the Palestinian State as well as its citizens so as to compensate for the crimes against humanity which it has committed over the course of the last several decades. Cemented by the renunciation of violence which the PLO has undertaken, Palestinians can no longer be held accountable for the actions of Hamas and other terrorist groups, and an independent Palestinian state commits to joining the War on Terror righteously fought by Israel and its allies. The Minimal Acceptable Borders of a Palestinian State Beginning with the minimal acceptable borders of a Palestinian State, these must be congruent with the original United Nations Settlement plan put forth by the UN prior to Israeli conquest in 1949 With Rowntree et al. (2014) noting that the original 1948 borders of Israel were already in violation of the proposed United Nations Settlement, Israel s borders are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. National Health Care For The United States According to Cothran (2015), Over the past five decades, there have been major shifts in how we pay for hospital care, physician services, long term care, prescription drugs, and other services and products . Before Medicare and Medicaid, about half of hospital care was not covered by insurance. About 100 % of the spending on prescription medications came from the customers in the 1960s (Cothran, 2015). But, in 2014, customers spent 15% less. Team B will explain our position on national health care spending in the United States. We will also include: current national health care costs, if we are spending too much or not, should we add or cut spending and why, how health care needs are paid for, and future economic needs of the health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pharmaceutical industry is yet another part of health care that is receiving immense profits from its advertisements and a physician prescribing only certain medications. The truth is that some of the medicines can cause more harm than good. So who s really profiting? Truth is, that the physicians and pharmaceutical companies are benefiting; when the doctor prescribes medications that causes more issues than it cures, a revolving door is created so that the physicians and pharmaceutical companies can keep gaining profits. For instance, if a patient receives medicine to treat an ailment and it creates more health issues then the doctor will now keep prescribing medications to fix an issue, when it is actually making the patient worse. By creating a need the companies are able to keep themselves afloat. The federal budget was 3.8 trillion for the 2015 fiscal year. The government to take care of each and every American divides the 3.8 trillion; this comes to about 12,000 per American ( National Priorities Project , 2015). Over 90% of federal monies are used for mandatory and discretionary spending. The rest is spent on interest that the government has accumulated. 1.11 trillion is the equivalent of what was spent in discretionary spending in 2015. About 60% was spent on military and government, 6% on education, the rest was divided almost equally 5% or less on: veteran s benefits, food and agriculture, transportation, science, environment, housing and ... Is this the scene from the Fifty Shades Freed novel where the two lovers were already on their honeymoon? This PLC was comprised of three English teachers and one student teacher. There was not a written agenda for their PLC, but they seemed to have an order to how their meeting was held. The began by discussing the unit that they were completing which was using Greek Mythology to review and analyze student s reading comprehension and summary writing abilities. They stated that their students seemed to be really interested in the unit and did well with the reading comprehension. However, they had noticed that some students were forgetting to state the title and author of the text within the summary and most summaries lacked elaboration, but most students were knowledgeable about the basic structure of a summary. As most students understood the basic structure, they decided that they were going to transition onto the next unit which focused on informative essay writing, but modify the unit in order to teach students the importance of including the title and author within a summary and ... • 9. Dr. Abbott s Sin And The Battle For America s Soul By the year 2015, it has been long since brothels have lined the streets of well known cities to the extent in which they did during the early 1900 s. While there are still a few legal brothels in Nevada and in some foreign countries, we usually find similar sorts in the forms of gentleman clubs or strip clubs nowadays. When examining the early 1900 s and our current modernity, there are, of course, both extreme and subtle similarities and differences. In Karen Abbott s novel, Sin in the Second City: Madams, Ministers, Playboys and the Battle for America s Soul, there is no pronounced comparison of our modern world with the one of the past, but we can insightfully see that we are not so different. The changes resulting in a more modern America were: emergence of big business and industrial systems, immigration, urbanization, and the challenge to faith and confidence. First of all, many immigrants traveled to America, the land of opportunity, with their hearts and minds set on finding work to support their families and to start anew. The growth of railroads created towns and cities, which then grew as big businesses sprung up, and finally expanded further as immigrants invaded these cities in search of cheap jobs. The inflow of foreigners caused Americans to be resentful and move to the suburbs. Many middle class people did not want to live near the new ethnic neighborhoods as they feared the varying races and religious affiliations. This growth in modernity resulted in a positive growth in technological devices such as telephones and street cars. On the other hand, the negative aspects, such as how cities were becoming overcrowded, unsanitary, filled with disease, and politically corrupted, may have outweighed the good parts of the city. The most important aspects, revolved around Europeans opening saloons and Madams and pimps opening brothels, both of which contributed to revolutions with churches, temperance activists, anti cigarette reformers and more. This allows them to be born and live far away from water, such as on mountaintops. Frogs can be found on every continent in the world except Antarctica. However, the highest concentration of frogs is found in warmer tropical climes. Like frogs, toads are amphibians. They differ from most frogs in fact they have dry skin, warts, crests behind the eyes, and parotoid glands. The parotoid glands produce a poisonous secretion that helps to defend the toad from predators. Many different species of toads live throughout the United States. • 13. Expiration Dates The concept of event related sterility is one that required teamwork and cooperation in order to convert existing policies into this new one. The idea of not using expiration dates was hard for some but, when presented with the information and cost effectiveness it was difficult not to take a closer look at how this new procedure could and would benefit health care facilities. Armed with new policies and more training, health care workers were ready for the challenge of implementing this new idea. Introduction The sterilization process has been in use for a very long time. The use of expiration dates gave, and still gives, a period in which items are sterile and may be put to use during a procedure. This system works, but is costly and labor intensive. Although this process works, there is another way of maintaining the sterility of items. Louis Pasteur proved it. Louis Pasteur sterilized flasks in 1863, more than 130 years ago. Approval had to be gained by showing the facility that it was going to benefit everyone involved and that it was in compliance with state and local laws as well as with accrediting organizations. These, along with a labeling policy and testing for quality assurance, helped to maintain the process. Benefits Event related sterility is cost effective compared to the use of expiration dates since outdated packaging material does not have to be removed and thrown away causing items to be rewrapped. Also, since there are no expiration dates, expired items do not have to be pulled for reprocessing which cuts down on time and labor. Inventory is important to consider for the balance sheet as it s listed after receivables since its less liquid than receivables. This is how patient care services are provided from inventory. The process starts when the services have been provided, notification of a bill sent to patient, then accounts receivables grow. • 15. Analysis Of `` No Country For Old Men `` In Cormac McCarthy s No Country For Old Men, fate plays a significant role in the novel and is present in the lives of each of the characters he portrays. Fate, as defined in the dictionary, is the will or principle or determining cause by which things in general are believed to come to be as they are or events to happen as they do. The theme of fate is demonstrated in all of the characters in the novel, but most evidently in Llewellyn Moss, Ed Tom Bell, Carla Jean, Carson Wells, and Anton Chigurh. Fate is the main difference that lies between all of these characters. In his interactions with other characters, Anton Chigurh continually suggests that each and every choice we make determines our fate. The most critical character in the entire novel is the antagonist Anton Chigurh: a psychopathic hit man who kills almost everyone he meets. Chigurh is completely eccentric and strictly abides to a moral code; he believes that he is an agent of fate, and that each and every choice we make determines our fate, no matter how small. This moral code is demonstrated in each of Chigurh s interactions with the other characters. Throughout the novel it is not known if fate is necessarily either good or bad but it does not really matter because in the end the inevitable is going to happen. In this novel, McCarthy suggests that regardless of what path we choose, life will always end in death. Chigurh embodies this philosophy and throughout the novel he consistently serves as a reminder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, I never could bring up the courage to be different, so I started to change some of the little things that I did around my friends. I began to lose the interest of my friends and they didn t invite me to as many things or call me to go hang out. Surprisingly, I was ok with it. Changing the way that I acted with my friends made me realize that they were never really my friends. We are not citizens but subjects, being subjected to the ruling of one power. We claim that we despise the government and that the government is out to get us, but if you think of what our society would be without a government we would be in total chaos. A learning strategy is a student s approach to learning and using information. However students who do not know or use good learning strategies often learn passively and ultimately fail at study. Learning strategies are used by students to help them understand information and solve problems. Successful students are good much good at using it, meanwhile, learning strategy can make the students be more active and effective, because the students know how to learn and how to use what they have learned to solve problems, and lead them to success. • 23. Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura Research Paper Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is a rare disease that people would never know existed unless affected by it. The disease is characterized by individuals having extremely low platelets levels. Platelets are created from megakaryocytes that are located within the bone marrow. The megakaryocytes break off pieces small enough to leave the bone marrow and join the other blood cells circulating in the body. Platelets are responsible for clotting the blood when an injury occurs. They do this by agglutinating, or sticking to themselves at the site of the injury. Platelets are responsible for activating other clotting factors found in the blood. If someone does not have adequate platelets, such as individuals affected byITP, they may not be able to clot their blood. For a simple scratch it is not too worrisome, but if the individual falls or hits their head they can experience internal bleeding that can be fatal if not treated. Two symptoms are hallmarks for ITP. They include petichiae, micro hemorrhaging of vessels that typically occurs on the lower extremities and purpura, excessive bruising of the skin from minor bumps and cuts. The Virginian professor takes a stance on the problems that he has both experienced in his own classroom and observed on campuses, and he approaches each problem in turn, making significant claims which are assigned appropriate blames. His essay, Liberal Arts Lite Entertainment, originally published in 1997, is broken into six sections and begins with his experience at his own university before branching out to all those across the country. Following this is a deduction of student culture as well as professors. He gives hope to the idea of the acceptance and praising of genius (as opposed to the alienation students endorse so well) towards the end of his essay, narrowing his argument down to a more specific change that could possibly cause a domino effect from individual students to universities across America. The scale of the situation is much too large to be easily fixed, and it is clear that Edmundson s purpose in writing this essay is to inform those who are engulfed in the academic world. More specifically, it seems, he targets professors and higher level students, and even possibly their parents. By singling out these people and making the problem of consumer culture in universities known to those who care exponentially about educating the youth, it is much more likely that Edmundson s argument will trickle down to said youth in the process ...
