The World Is A Dangerous Place
In the words of Albert Einstein The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who
are evil, but because of the people who don t do anything about it. The importance of these words and
the desire to pursue my Master degree in Science in Global Studies and International Relations came
to me as an epiphany, while roaming the streets of Brazil. After a decade of working as a nuclear
engineer, at one of the world s leading nuclear instrumentation companies, I have encountered
numerous issues such as nuclear waste disposable, non proliferation, and energy independence. It is
through these efforts that, I have come to realize that the greatest impediment to solving these
problems is often the labyrinth of political hurdles and deciphering the technical implications of
government standards. As an engineer, my world has been framed by logical assessments and
conclusions. I was brought up and taught to think critically, analyze, and solve problems. I have been
living in a microsphere of the nuclear industry and have come to the realization that the true solution
to a problem often lies not only in science but in diplomacy. For example, a university in Egypt
wanted to buy a monitor. The monitor they wanted to purchase did not contain any nuclear material
(but did allow for workers to check if they are contaminated with nuclear material). This simple
request became a rather interesting situation not only because my company is 96% owned by the
government of France,

How Did Daniel Defoe s Death Affect Society
A dreadful plague in London was In the year sixty five, Which swept an hundred thousand souls
Away; yet I alive (Defoe 159). This cry by H.F. is a fascinating statement of a survivor of the 1665
Plague in London. The distribution of burdens in the book was unequal. Personally, Daniel Defoe was
not as impacted as society was as a whole. The intervention of government is supported as effective
but the aftermath of the events reveals the standards that were perpetuated during the plague were not
established as a permanent social institute.
INDIVIDUAL RESPONSE
In his accounts, Daniel Defoe was relatively removed at a personal level from the chaos that
surrounded him. ...that I would trust in God with my safety and health, was the strongest repulse ...

...the charity of the rich, as well in the city and suburbs as from the country, was so great that, in a
word, a prodigious number of people who must otherwise inevitably have perished for want as well as
sickness were supported and subsisted by it... (Defoe 135). After the plague came to an end, Defoe
also offered a contrast to this societal standard with, ...the morals of the people declined from this very
time; that the people, hardened by the danger they had been in, like seamen after a storm is over, were
more wicked and more stupid, more bold and hardened, in their vices and immoralities than they were
before... (147). The plague culminated in a interesting phenomenon of compassion and tolerance from
many English communities but that equal leveling of social classes was not an enduring consequence
of the Bubonic Plague, it was an exception to the rule. After the plague had passed over London, the
people returned to their normal class structure and what good conduct transpired during the Bubonic
Plague was

Broken bones are a common injury; an average of 6 million people in the United States will break a
bone each year ( Physical Fields ). Unfortunately, I was one of those people. It was Wednesday,
August 19th, 2009, the first night of my fifth grade year. I was so nervous, but thrilled to continue
attending school at Ridgeview Elementary School. Little did I know I would be out of school for two
weeks and come back with a bright pink cast covering my left arm. I had just received my brand new
pink bike and wanted to go on a steamy evening cruise. I already knew how to ... Show more content

I was going so fast that I lost all control of my bike and could not come to a complete stop. I flipped
over the handlebars on my bike and heard my left wrist snap like a branch. It was one of the most
frightful sounds that I have ever heard. I can still remember the brutal, ear wrenching sound to this
day. Thankfully, my neighbors were outside and they saw me fall onto the hard, rough cement. I was
in so much pain, so I laid there on the ground with gruesome scrapes and bruises thinking, God please
help me. My face turned as red as a fire hydrant, while I balled my eyes out. As soon as I looked down
at my wrist I kept telling myself this isn t broken, this can not be happening. While my worried
looking neighbor was walking my bike back to my house, I was slowly walking with him and Carson.
Carson immediately ran into the house screaming, HELP! My parents came running out to see what
problem existed. My neighbor made sure that my parents were aware of everything that happened and
eventually left after being truly appreciated by them. I weakly walked into my house then, sat on my
bed while still crying profusely. The tears of pain and fear did not stop for a long time. I kept telling
my family that I wanted to go to my friend Nikki s house because her mom is a nurse. I trusted her
with my whole heart and wanted to get her perspective on my wrist. Finally, my parents drove us to
Nikki s house. Her mom, said with

How Did The Spanish Civil War Change In Barcelona City
At the start of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, there was a general revolutionary atmosphere amongst
the people in Barcelona. Worker s revolutionary parties had taken over the city, boasting their
signature red and black flags with hammer and sickles plastered to every wall. Churches were
demolished because of their hierarchical leadership and relationship to the bourgeoisie. Shops and
cafés were collectivized and were painted with the red and black colors of revolution. The streets of
Barcelona remained full of boisterous crowds walking along to revolutionary songs being played over
the city. Not only had the town undergone a complete transformation, but the people of Barcelona had
also changed dramatically. There was virtually no evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nobody said Señior or Don or even Usted ; everyone called everyone else Comrade and Thou , and
said Salud! instead of Buenos días . (Page 3). Human beings were trying to behave as human beings
and not as cogs in the capitalist machine. (Page 4). Very few dressed in expensive clothing and almost
everyone dressed in working class clothes or militia style uniform. Those who disagreed with the
power of the working class were gone or laid low only to blend in until war passed. The Spanish Civil
War had sparked a belief of revolution and equality in Barcelona, and also an atmosphere of war. The
untidiness of war left streets dimly lit and shops scarce and unkempt. There were shortages of
necessary food items such as bread, as well as limited supplies of coal and petrol. But despite the
elements of war, there was little unemployment and due to the low cost of living, very little begging.
The people of Spain fought for a revolution to keep democracy, to decrease the power of the church,
and to take back the land, unions, and factories. Above all, there was a belief in the revolution and the
future, a feeling of having suddenly emerged into an era of equality and freedom. (Page

The Science Of Team Building
Team Synergy to Succeed Aristotle is credited with stating the whole is greater than the simple sum of
its parts. This also represents the definition of synergy. Synergy is the unified working of the sum to
create something greater than the individual components. For instance a car engine is comprised of an
engine block, belts, hoses, spark plugs, and other miscellaneous components. Individually these
components are not going to propel a vehicle however when put together and fed some fuel the
components create the oomph needed to support transportation. In sports and business the cooperation
and collaboration of people in organizations is no different. The people within these groups must be
working in a unified manner toward a common set of goals and objectives. This common set of goals
and objective provides the end point so that a team of people have the necessary oomph, to achieve
outcomes that would otherwise be unattainable by a single individual. The science of team building is
an art. The uncontrollable variables are people. Just putting a group of talented individuals together for
the sole purpose of goal achievement can be met with disastrous results. It can leave individuals left
feeling unfulfilled and lead to costly mistakes in the long run. While team building can be considered
an art, there are some methods and approaches that can assist with successful builds. While no
approach is full proof, taking time to acclimate oneself with human

Constitutional Changes After The American Revolution
Merriam Webster s dictionary defines a revolution as an, activity or movement designed to effect
fundamental changes in the socioeconomic situation. or, a fundamental change in the way of thinking
about or visualizing something. In this sense, the constitutional and social developments of the United
States of America between 1860 and 1877 amount to a drastic revolution. Previously to Abraham
Lincoln s election to the position of the American Presidency, slavery was an institution deeply rooted
in Southern American s way of life. Throughout Lincoln s terms and following his assassination,
America underwent many constitutional changes and dealt with a changing social order as well. The
most notable of these was the uprooting of the institution of slavery and the effect it had on the United
States of America. Senator John Sherman, a Republican from Ohio, gave a speech in congress in 1863
in which he discussed new banking and currency systems. In this speech, he highlighted some
revolutionary actions taken by states. He stated that, It has been the principle of states rights, that bad

changed the fundamental principles of our government in some respects?... There was a civilization
based on servitude... Where is that?... Gone forever... We have revolutionized this Constitution of ours
to that extent and every substantial change in the fundamental constitution of a country is a revolution.
If one during that time could acknowledge that the events occurring between 1860 and 1877 were a
revolution, one can do so

Sing A Musical Analysis
Is Sing a Classic?
What makes a classic movie, a classic? Some people may say it is the actors or actresses in the movie,
the directors, or the setting. Although all of these components are important in a movie, they do not
make the movie a classic. A classic movie is all about connection the movie makes with its audience.
The more emotion the movie can draw from its viewers, the more the viewers can connect with the
movie. Having a good plot and story is a must to consider a movie to be a classic. A classic movie also
needs to be memorable to the audience. With a classic it is all about the lasting impression on its
viewers (Weeks par. 5). The new 2016 movie, Sing, meets all the requirements to be a classic. Sing is
an animated musical comedy directed by Garth Jennings and Christophe Lourdelet. Sing is rated PG,
and has won the Top Box Office Films from ASCAP Film and won Outstanding Music Supervision
from Hollywood Music In Media Awards in 2016 (Awards par. 1). The movie, Sing, is about a Koala
named Buster Moon who hosts a singing contest to help his failing theater business. Sing is a classic
movie that connects with the viewers, has a good story, and is memorable to the viewers.
What is a Classic?
In order for a movie to be considered a classic, a movie must possess three components. The movies
success is based on the audience, it is the audience that make the movie (Weeks par. 5). Movie critic
for NRP, Bob Mondello, says,

An Owner s Manual For My Trek Bicycle
Technical documents in most cases are really important, mainly because it helps explain the needs and
procedures of a product/research. Technical documents can include anywhere from an owner s
manual, to a journal article, to blogs in which case, I m choosing an owner s manual for my TREK
bicycle. One of the nicest features of this manual that distinguishes it from many other owner s
manual is the fact that it provides not only a hardcopy of the manual but also a compact disc (CD). On
the CD, the customer has the ability to get a translated version of the manual. When I bought the bike,
TREK authorized dealer, provided me with a physical copy which was solidly in English which is not
a problem for me but customers in other regions of the United States or other parts of the world may
need a translated manual in order to understand it. With the CD, English as second language
customers have the same ability as I do to understand the manual rather than having to go to
translators or translating websites. So TREK does not really have a specific range of customers they
are targeting but if you speak other languages than those on the website would be problem but they
still have the ability to link the manual on the CD to the company website in order to check for other
languages TREK may have translated into. After reading majority of the manual, I can conclude that
the manual basically meets all the requirement of the excellence in technical documents. The manual

Avoid Automatic Car Washes
When it comes to advertising your business, vehicle wraps can be among the most economical
options. Whenever your company vehicle is driving, these wraps allow everyone around it to see your
business s sign and contact information. However, it should be noted that these wraps require some
protective care to ensure they always look appealing to prospective customers. If you are unfamiliar
with the care requirements for these wraps, the following couple of tips may help you to extend the
usable life and protect the appearance of your business s wrap.
Avoid Automatic Car Washes
You will eventually need to wash your company car, but if you have a vehicle wrap, you may want to
avoid using an automatic car wash for this task. This is particularly ... Show more content on

This will ensure that your car looks as good as possible without accidentally ruining or otherwise
damaging its wrap.
Apply Vehicle Wrap Finish Every Few Months
In addition to being careful when you wash the wrap, you will also need to apply a new coat of
protective finish to the wrap every few months. These coatings will help reduce the chances that the
wrap suffers a tear due to flying road debris. Also, the coating will help to prevent the sun s intense
rays from bleaching the color out of your wrap.
These finishes can be purchased from most automotive supply stores, and you will need to ensure that
the vehicle has been thoroughly washed before applying the finish. If you apply the finish to a dirty
exterior, it may not form a strong bond with the wrap, which will inhibit its protection.
Having a vehicle wrap placed over your company car can be one of the most cost effective forms of
advertising that you can utilize. However, you may not be aware of the type of care that a vehicle
wrap needs to keep it looking good. Making sure that you avoid automatic car washes and apply a
protective finish every few months will help you to keep your wrap safe from common sources of
damages and

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Laws
In the United States, the gun laws need to be tightened, the laws that are in place now are too loose. If
the United States tighten the gun laws we could cut down on deaths. It would also cut down on people
acquiring firearms illegally like through families and friends, and legally but in unsafe ways like the
Charleston Loophole. If the United States passes tighter gun laws the deaths would decrease and the
United States will be a bit of a nicer place.
The Charleston Loophole is a big example of the reason the United States needs tighter Gun Laws.
From the years 2010 through 2016, the loophole allowed about 23,000 guns to be sold to dangerous
people (source 1). To buy a gun you had to go through a three business day background check. If that
check could not be completed within the three business day time period, by federal law the stores were
allowed to sell people the guns without the background check completed. If there was a larger time
period for the background check the problem of dangerous people getting firearms, would diminish.
All the background checks that have been completed have blocked more than two million dangerous
people from getting firearms (also source 1). Also, most likely saved many lives which could have
been taken if the people whose background checks were blocked.
Another reason we should place tighter gun laws is that of how easy it is to acquire a gun. An article
from the New York Times reviews a documentary called The New Radical . That documentary talked
about a person named Cody Wilson, who released the first known 3D printer plans to create a gun. He
named the gun The Liberator, and it is a single shot pistol made in a 3D printer. His gun plans had
people questioning the boundaries of the 2nd amendment. Most other people would use the easier way
like Daniel Webster said: When criminals get guns, they get them from friends, family, or from an
underground market source. (source 1 article 2) Meaning that criminals and dangerous people could
have a friend who is not convicted of a crime or clean buy the gun they use to kill or hurt a lot of
people. This just shows how easy it is to obtain a working gun or gun substitute. The people who
disagree with the statement We should

Smart Dog Collar
Introduction
Most of the nation s dogs are overweight, and a majority of their owners are blind to this issue.
According to the latest research of Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, Veterinarians assessed
more than half of the dogs are overweight or obese. However, their owners do not aware their dogs are
overweight. Dogs are less healthy, as the problem of overweight is often associated with chronic
health problems like hypertension, heart disease and diabetes. However, dogs do not tell owners
directly when they are suffering from common canine problems even tent to hide by nature. It may
delay the treatment of the dog.
There is a need to provide a complete and holistic monitor for dogs. Smart dog collar which consists
of many sensor elements which used to measures the vital signs of the dogs and synchronizes that data
wirelessly with a Smartphone is a wearable technology for dogs. It provides a real insight into their
activities and overall wellness also helps pet parent take better control of the dog s weight and health

Personal Statement On Team Rules
13. Team Rules I will determine most of the basic rules concerning GPA, being late to practice, and
the consequences for not reaching the statistics base marks (number of points scored in a quarter,
serving percentage, etc.) set before each game by the coaching staff. However, rules concerning what
to wear on game days, whether team lunches are required, etc. I will leave up to my team to decide at
the beginning of the season. I also believe that because they will be setting up these rules that they are
also the ones responsible for the consequences as well. 14. Scholarships I want to be an extremely
active coach concerning recruiting. As a coach, I would like to eventually coach at the collegiate level
and having the ability to both network as well as produce players that are scholarship worthy is a way
to portray my ability as a coach. As a coach, I want what is best for my players and I want them to
truly love the sport. If they come to love the sport and would like to play on in college, I want them to
be able to have that opportunity. I did not have any coaches that were active in helping me to know
how to recruit myself. I think that if I would have had more information about recruiting then it would
have benefitted me as an athlete. I will make sure that every freshman that comes into my program is
aware of the NCAA Eligibility Center and how the recruiting process works regardless of whether I
think they could play collegiately. As a coach, I will not know until

Definition Essay Re-Defining The Unknown
Re Defining the Unknown
My original definition: Comprehending monstrosity is only possible when you begin to re think the
idea of villainous creatures. The physicality leads to a better understanding of what makes something
visibly monstrous. Whereas within behavioral qualities, it is acknowledged that, the missing range of
emotion helps to separate them from humanity. Lastly, cultural significance defines what we recognize
as monstrous because it is defined differently through cultures. Defining the unknown is a concept that
originally seemed impossible to wrap my mind around, but analyzing the gray area that is a monstrous
being has shed light on a subject that was once in the darkest part of my imagination.
In regard to my previous definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There will always be that little spark of empathy, an event that will make the viewer feel sorry for the
tragedy that is the monster. However, on the other hand as humans we all have monstrous tendencies.
My new definition embodies the definition of boundary dwelling because in my opinion there is a
very thin line between human and monster. Sometimes monsters are treated as an entirely different
species, but if we are discussing the true nature of monsters, we are actually discussing a corrupted
human. Cohen emphasizes that monsters are disturbing hybrids whose externally incoherent bodies
resist attempts to include them in any systematic structuration. (Monster Culture: Seven Theses 14).
Cohen is trying to explain that monsters are conflicting in the aspect that they embody both human
and animalistic qualities. They are detached from reality, yet we can see parts of ourselves within
them. When Cohan states that they resist systematic structuration, I think he means that monsters can
not function in society. Monsters are represented differently throughout different cultures, but there is
one quality that each monster has: Rage. You define something as monstrous based off of a scale of
how much negative emotion is accompanied by the presence of the subject itself. Definitions begin to
differ when we ask ourselves not what we define as monstrous, but who we define as

Analysis Of The Sweet Hereafter By Mitchelll Stephens
The Man with a Mission, Mitchell Stephens Sometimes there is a situation that one is dragged in to,
such as some type of accident. For example, Mitchell Stephens is one of the narrators in The Sweet
Hereafter by Russell Banks. In his side of the story, he is a lawyer from New York who heard about a
bus accident in Sam Dent where ten children died in a bus crash. Mitchell is also the one lawyer
representing Risa Walker and her husband in a negligence suit that financially compensated them for
the loss of their son Sean. Mitchell is not only just a lawyer like many others but also had more
experience. He sympathizes with the parents who lost their children in the accident because like these
parents who lost their children he also has a daughter Zoe, who is he can consider dead due to her drug
problem. To this reason, Mitchell Stephen has the most to gain by telling his tale to the reader because
he seeks to relieve himself from his grief and to help future children riding to school who do not have
to come to the same fate as others in the accident. One reason why Mitchell is trying to gain
something by telling his tale is that he trying to help the people who lost their children in the accident.
Mitchell might a lawyer but he did not come to San Dent just because there was a good case like the
bus accident and he it was good pay, no, not Mitchell, he even said it himself that he did not come for
the money as Mitchell said people immediately assume we re greedy, that it s money we re after,
people call us ambulance chasers and so on, like we re the proctologists of the profession, and, yes,
there is lots of those ((Banks 90). The reason he came to San Dent was that he was angry because he
knows this was not just an accident as he Mitchell said I knew at once that it wasn t an accident at all.
There are no accidents. (Banks 91). Mitchell wanted to help the people from San Dent by making
them as angry as he was. To forget about their grief and Point their anger to the one who is the culprit.
Other reason to why Mitchell is the one narrator in The Sweet Hereafter that is trying to gain
something by telling his tale is because of him a man on a mission. Like many other lawyers heard
about the accident

How Did Exxel Differentiate Itself From Other Private...
1) What was the key strategy that Navarro pursued from 1991 on to establish Exxel as a leading Latin
American private equity organization? How did Exxel differentiate itself from other private equity
competitors?
Juan Navarro, the former Chairman of Citigroup Capital Investors S.A. (CCI) in Buenos Aires,
founded the Exxel Group in 1991. Due to his family s influential background in Uruguayan and
Argentine political and financial establishments, as well as his own work with the CCI, Navarro was
well connected and highly experienced in the financial and political sectors, and in private equity
itself. The political situation in Latin America at the time was fairly unstable and the launching of the

buyout firms and institutions. This was again for reasons of credibility as it assured both Latin
American and U.S. investors. Furthermore, it opened up more development opportunities for their
portfolio companies, as U.S. investors could transfer their experience from the American market to the
Argentine environment.
Exxel s fund devotion was mainly to invest in buyouts, recapitalizations, privatizations and mergers of
Argentine firms. Each fund was always devoted to a single transaction, which had the advantage of
being very focused on and informed about the transaction itself, as well as all corresponding

To differentiate itself from other private equity groups, Exxel built on Navarro s unique strength: his

Complications Of Brain Surgery
General Outcome from Study In every study, a general, overarching theme prevails in the conclusions.
DC increased likelihood of poor outcome (Cooper et al., 2011). Many complications arose from
normal changes that occur after surgery, meaning that certain factors don t necessarily indicate that
certain patients to have a poor outcome. In all studies across the board, similar percentages of
complications were recorded even with different populations, so age/population might not have an
effect on complication rates (Stiver, 2009). Contusion expansion and age are significantly predictive
of death from DC. Subdural effusion was significantly associated with low postop death risk (Ban et
al., 2010). The study found that age, anisocoria, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Midline Shift Relationship with Complications Patients with midline shift that was exceeding 10 mm
initially had greater complications and showed worse outcome rates (Ban et al., 2010). Patients who
show midline shifts greater than 5 mm are operated on earlier, and therefore they have a greater
likelihood of death (Faleiro et al., 2008). Patients with a midline shift of greater than 1 cm showed to
be a significant predictor of poor outcome. The initial degree of midline shift correlated with the
outcome post DC (Eghwrudjakpor Allison, 2010). Pupil Reactivity Relationship with Complications
and Outcome Patients who showed bilaterally unreactive pupils also showed significantly worse
clinical outcome and complication rates (Ban et al., 2010). Pupil reflexes that were lacking prior to
surgery correlated with a poor outcome of DC (Eghwrudjakpor Allison, 2010). The unfavorable result
group showed delayed pupil reactivity, possibly correlating delayed pupil reactivity with poor
outcome (Kalayci et al., 2013). Summary With the preoperative characteristics collected and the
surgery outcome data, past studies have drawn conclusions between certain patients characteristics
and their prognosis. References Arac, A., Blanchard, V., Lee, M., Steinberg, G. K. (2009). Assessment
of outcome following decompressive craniectomy for malignant middle cerebral artery infarction in

Satire As A Popular Form Of Satire
When one types satire in their search bar, the definition found is, Satire is defined as the use of the use
of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices,
particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. Political satire is a very
popular form of satire, it s used as a way to gain entertainment from politics, a way to voice opinions
in a comedic biting style, and to further arguments in a way that others can t. Political satire has had a
long reign in our country with its popularity only growing in most recent years. It s grown in

I would also along with researching whether people use political satire for their news, is to understand
whether the news they re getting is reliable enough to use as a news source. I think it s important to
know why things gain popularity, and why things continue to grow and grow more popular as the
years go by, especially when it comes to the changes of where people get their news and information
in order to be a functioning part of our democracy. But the real question is; why do people love
political satire, why have they moved from the traditional forms of journalism to political satire
programs? It seems that, the popular demand for Stewart s narrative signals a larger shift in the way
Americans think about news and where they go to get it away from institutional journalism and its
longstanding ethos of objectivity and the authoritative voice and toward more independent voices that
essentially return to iconic ideas of the press as a tool for building community and enabling
conversations between publics rather than acting as the mass medium it did in the latter part of the
twentieth century (Cutbirth).

What I Learned About Spiritual Warfare
God has restructured and redefined my ideas and ways of spiritual warfare. I learned so much about
spiritual warfare in my walk with God over the past 20+ years with much success but with much
weariness and being burned out. Through a recent series of events and personal crisis, God walked me
through many intense spiritual warfare strategies within the principles of the courts of heaven, which
was refreshing and much needed. I realized everything I learned about spiritual warfare was about to
go through serious overhauling and revamping. God opened my eyes to a different prayer strategy I
had not conceived before until I was in a desperate situation in much need of His peace. After taking
me through many stages of revamping my own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God is evermore updating our knowledge of His ways and how He does things through upgrading our
revelation. He does this by bringing it up to date and current for the times we are living. Spiritual
warfare of the end times will not be the same level of spiritual warfare we got away with in times past.
Spiritual warfare intensifies at high speed as Satan s fury increases because he knows his time is short
and his impending doom soon approaching. It is a fury unleashed on all mankind unlike any other
time in history. The Bible predicts it yet we are experiencing the beginnings of birthing pains that will
either make us or break us. We will overcome or be overcome. There is no middle ground. God desires
us to be equipped with every spiritual advantage and He is revealing vital information in His Word if
we will take heed and pay attention: Therefore be glad (exult), O heavens and you that dwell in them!
But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in fierce anger (fury), because he
knows that he has [only] a short time [left]! Revelation 12:12 [AMPC] The word fury means
unrestrained or violent anger, rage, passion, or the like. Satan has thrown his most vicious attacks of
fury against the body of Christ, against our families, against our children and against our nation and he
is unrestrained. It s almost as if he has determined in his mind, It s all or

Stereotypes In Paul Theroux sBeing A Man
There are two types of men portrayed by the media. There is the lazy dad who spends all day sitting in
the recliner eating potato chips and watching television. This man always has his wife taking care of
everything while he is a bumbling fool who can do nothing right. This man is harmless and
unintelligent. Then there is the action hero man. This man has a rugged, muscular build and is usually
very attractive. He can accomplish any task using his fist, but struggles to think through things
logically. Every man sees these two stereotypes and begins to try to fit one of them. This leads the
man to ask himself the question What is a Man? . Being a man is not letting stereotypes define him,
standing firm in his convictions, but being accepting of others at the same time, knowing when or
when not to take action, and having a dream. If asked what does it mean to be a man? the most
common responses would be answers like protector, provider, and taking charge. While there is
inherently nothing wrong with these answers the real problem lies in the fact which all men cannot
live up to these standards. These men are left questioning themselves on their masculinity. A man
should not let stereotypes define him. Paul Theroux addresses many of the common stereotypes in his
essay Being a Man , I was told to take up a sport, get more fresh air, join the Boy Scouts, and I was
urged not to read so much. and
Being a drunkard is another assertion, if misplaced, of manliness... A man proves his manhood in
America in old fashioned ways. He kills lions, like Hemingway; or he hunts ducks. like Nathanael
West; or he makes pronouncements like, A man should carry enough knife to defend himself with, as
James Jones once said to a Life interviewer (Theroux). Theroux addresses these common stereotypes
to prove how futile they are. A man should not let other people s idea of how a man should be
influence them. Many of the stereotypes listed by Theroux are unfeasible and hard for any man to
accomplish, further adding to the futility of them. Scott Russell Sanders compares two common
stereotypes of men in his essay The Men We Carry in Our Minds . Sanders address the stereotype of
the rugged muscular man who works all of his life

Monogamy isn t realistic (Trainwreck) is a recurring theme in Aziz Ansrai s Modern Romance. The
argument being that with the ever growing dependence on technology in modern relationships/ dating
it is ridiculous to expect you and/or your partner to remain monogamous. Polygamy is not always
consensual in the case of affairs, which are made easier by technology. Ansari argues that The privacy

without any judgment. (191). One of the main examples used in the book is the website Ashley

When they feel like it is the end of the world, many people have trouble keeping a smile on their face.
Other people can continue to shine no matter how bad they feel. Those people can leave a long lasting
impact on the world. Princess Diana influenced millions of people from all over the world, and her
legacy will remain forever. Lady Diana Frances Spencer was born at home on July 1, 1961, in
Norfolk, England (Morton 70). Her parents were very ashamed that she was a girl. They wanted a boy
very badly to keep the Spencer name (Morton 71). Diana had two older sisters and one younger
brother. She was always the closest to her brother, Charles, and admired him strongly (Vickers 160).

(Morton30). Diana Spencer met Prince Charles when she was sixteen years old, while visiting with his
family. Diana left a memorable impression. There was a thirteen year age difference between the two
of them, but they had a lot in common (Dolan 4). Diana had crushed on Charles since she was a little
girl. She was in love with him so much that she had a poster of him hanging above her bed (Dolan 4).
Diana always joked about how she should be more into Prince Andrew because he was around her
age, but she always longed for Charles. In 1980, Miss Spencer and The Prince of Wales began talking
about marriage. In 1981, Charles proposed to her, and she immediately responded yes. Her dream was

Abstinence-only vs. Abstinence-plus
There are many problems facing teenagers these days. None are bigger than the issue of underage sex,
and all the issues stemming from it. The number of teenagers becoming sexually active, pregnant, and
contracting sexually transmitted diseases are rapidly on the rise. There is no simple fix, or easy
solution to this problem. Sex education should begin at home, and extend to include an effective
program in schools that reinforce a clear message of abstaining from sexual activity in addition to
informing students of the risks posed by engaging in sexual activity. The political, and religious
dissension on this issue has resulted in a procedural stalemate preventing schools from effectively
addressing the problem, and implement a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ideal of what historian Anne Higonnet calls the Romantic Child, our modern image of a naturally
asexual, pure child, is at the heart of century long conflicts over sex education. By definition, the
romantic child s innocence depends on protection from sexuality (Talk About Sex 13). Parents, in
general, do not feel at ease thinking about their children having sex, nor do they want to encourage
them to do so. The fact that most parents are not comfortable talking about the subject with their
children only increases the importance of doing so in our schools. Opposition of the Abstinence Plus
program centers around the belief that by comprehensively informing students about sex, and
responsible practices, in addition to supplying contraceptives, will send a message that not only is it
okay to have sex but here have a condom to do it with. In some cases, they actually suggest the
importance of telling students that condoms are ineffective and do not work (Teenage Sexuality 205).
Over the past few decades, several attempts have been made to scare teenagers away from sex. In the
sex education video No Second Chance, a young man asks the teacher what if he does not to wait until
marriage to have sex. She replies, Well, I guess you ll just have to be prepared to die (Talk About Sex
117). The intended message was that condoms do not work in effectively preventing HIV. This is

Legal Ethics Implication Of The Lived Experience Of...
Legal ethics implication in the study of The lived experience of indigenous people toward repeated
volcanic eruption: A phenomenology study
Several ethical issues need to be concerned in this study. Firstly is the Beneficience and Non
maleficence issue. The purpose of this research is to explore the participant experience toward
volcanic eruptions, it potentially induced past trauma and caused fear or anxiety (Giarratano, Savage,
Barcelona deMendoza, Harville, 2014). Therefore, researcher must reduce the risk and harm by
providing debriefing facility (or alike). Researcher also should consider to stop the interview process
if the participant got distressed in the middle of interview process. Regarding a distress participant in
this research, due to the cultural differences and unavailability of debriefing facility, researcher will
refer the participant to the spiritual leader. In regards to the data obtained from distress participant, it
will be deleted or utilized based on their permission.
Secondly is the issue of anonymity and confidentiality of the participant. Ensuring that no one
including the researcher can not link the information to the participant is very challenging (Coup
Schneider, 2007). To maximize the effort of protecting participant anonymity and confidentiality, the
researcher suggested to use pseudonyms (or invented/fake names). Pseudonyms is usefull to protect
participants anonymity and confidentiality (Coup Schneider, 2007). However, only using

On How the American Indians Were Removed from Their Land
One by one Indian peoples were removed to the West. The Delaware, the Ottawa, Shawnee, Pawnee
and Potawatomi, the Sauk and Fox, Miami and Kickapoo, the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and
Seminole. In all some 90 thousand Indians were relocated. The Cherokee were among the last to go.
Some reluctantly agreed to move. Others were driven from their homes at bayonet point. Almost two
thousands of them died along the route they remembered as the Trail of Tears. For decades, the state of
Georgia sought to enforce its authority over the Cherokee Nation, but its efforts had little effect until
the election of President Andrew Jackson, a longtime supporter of Indian removal. In 1838 the U.S.
government forced the Cherokee Indians out of their land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was going to relocate the eastern tribes beyond the Mississippi River. Another President of the
United States, James Monroe, wrote a letter to Andrew Jackson that stated, I have long viewed treaties
with the Indians an absurdity not to be reconciled to the principles of our government. The Choctaw
relocation began in 1830, seven years later the Chickasaw were removed. In 1836 the Creek were
removed by force that was followed by the negotiations that started in 1832. The Seminole removal
triggered a 7 year war that ended in 1843. They had been given 2 years to pack and move, and after
the two years they would be moved by force. The government sent 7,000 troops to start the moving
process. The Indians were forced off their land at bayonet point. They were not given any extra time to
pack, they started loading and the whites took their homes and lands as soon as they were gone. Being
forced out of their land and to another affected the Indians more than most people know. About four
thousand Cherokee people died on their way to the new land, some died of cold, hunger, or diseases.
Some of the Indians later committed arson and murder because of how hard it was for them to get over
the treatment of their people. In

Reflection Of The Brain
By far, the most interesting concept that I have ever come across in my life is the brain. The brain is a
an array of complexities involving lobes, such as the frontal and temporal, that have different
functions and control a different part of a human s life. I think that the more one digs deeper into the
way that the brain works, the more one begins to realize just how many things can go wrong in the
brain which can lead to a lifetime of devastation. Looking at the bigger picture, I think that I am more
than honored to work in any research project that involves anything remotely related to the
neuroscience because I am always looking for ways to expand my knowledge about the brain and
essentially the nervous system in general. To be specific, I am interested in how to handle any
dementia related diseases such as Alzheimer s or Parkinson s, since I think that these diseases along
with diseases such as Huntington s affects a lot of people nationwide, and focusing research on
neuroscience diseases in general will help and impact many individuals worldwide. Going into more
detail, I would like to research what kind of mechanisms or biotechnology we can use in order to alert
future patients of their future risk for these neuroscience diseases. For example, maybe the percentage
of the time they stay in REM sleep might help with the configuration of a formula that can be
generated into an app that tracks on sleeps states and combined with their genetic disposition, science
will be able to determine their risk for Alzheimer s and so on. In addition, I would like to seek a
research project that kind of nails down the diagnostic stage of Alzheimer s. Currently, there is
research out there that talk about the buildup of plaque but there also counter arguments that state how
80 years olds present with this plaque do not even show the slightest symptoms of dementia which
counters what modern medicine is saying about the plaques being linked to Alzheimer s. I think that if
we had a hard set on what the official diagnosis for Alzheimer s, Parkinson s, Huntington s, or any
neurological disease for that matter, it would be beneficial to the world at large. Diverting away from
neuroscience, I am also interested in the

world and down through history. As early as 10,000 BC, in ancient Egypt, men and women used
scented oils and ointments to clean and soften their skin and mask body odor. Dyes and paints were
used to color the skin, body and hair. They rouged their lips and cheeks, stained their nails with henna,

Failures Of The Weimar Republic
In its beginnings, the Weimar Republic was one of the most progressive nations in all of Europe. With
42% of its electorate voting for either the Social Democrats or Communists in 1928, and with a
population both embracing homosexuality and redefining gender roles, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party
were somehow able to take power in the democratic system. Though Hitler s rise to power certainly
was not peaceful, it did not solely rely on violence. To the detriment of the minority, indifference of
the majority was all that was needed to carry out many plans. Citizens of the Weimar Republic were
not initially ready to allow a dictatorship that would produce the horrors of Hitler s regime; instead,
Paul von Hindenburg, the Catholic Center Party, and ultimately, the once progressive German public
all overlooked the atrocities of the Nazi Party due to the deceptions of Adolf Hitler, the creation of
common enemies, and the systematic pacification of the German people.
Adolf Hitler s appointment to the chancellor is attributed to the Great Depression of 1929, the rise of
the Nazi Party, and an underestimation of Hitler by the Conservative Party. The devastating effects of
the worldwide depression caused the conservative President Paul von Hindenburg to enact Article 48
of the Weimar constitution due to an emergency state, which essentially allowed the president to
appoint a chancellor without the approval of the Reichstag. Hindenburg appointed numerous different
chancellors in the

  • 2. The World Is A Dangerous Place In the words of Albert Einstein The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don t do anything about it. The importance of these words and the desire to pursue my Master degree in Science in Global Studies and International Relations came to me as an epiphany, while roaming the streets of Brazil. After a decade of working as a nuclear engineer, at one of the world s leading nuclear instrumentation companies, I have encountered numerous issues such as nuclear waste disposable, non proliferation, and energy independence. It is through these efforts that, I have come to realize that the greatest impediment to solving these problems is often the labyrinth of political hurdles and deciphering the technical implications of government standards. As an engineer, my world has been framed by logical assessments and conclusions. I was brought up and taught to think critically, analyze, and solve problems. I have been living in a microsphere of the nuclear industry and have come to the realization that the true solution to a problem often lies not only in science but in diplomacy. For example, a university in Egypt wanted to buy a monitor. The monitor they wanted to purchase did not contain any nuclear material (but did allow for workers to check if they are contaminated with nuclear material). This simple request became a rather interesting situation not only because my company is 96% owned by the government of France, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Did Daniel Defoe s Death Affect Society A dreadful plague in London was In the year sixty five, Which swept an hundred thousand souls Away; yet I alive (Defoe 159). This cry by H.F. is a fascinating statement of a survivor of the 1665 Plague in London. The distribution of burdens in the book was unequal. Personally, Daniel Defoe was not as impacted as society was as a whole. The intervention of government is supported as effective but the aftermath of the events reveals the standards that were perpetuated during the plague were not established as a permanent social institute. INDIVIDUAL RESPONSE In his accounts, Daniel Defoe was relatively removed at a personal level from the chaos that surrounded him. ...that I would trust in God with my safety and health, was the strongest repulse ... (Defoe 135). After the plague came to an end, Defoe also offered a contrast to this societal standard with, ...the morals of the people declined from this very time; that the people, hardened by the danger they had been in, like seamen after a storm is over, were more wicked and more stupid, more bold and hardened, in their vices and immoralities than they were before... (147). The plague culminated in a interesting phenomenon of compassion and tolerance from many English communities but that equal leveling of social classes was not an enduring consequence of the Bubonic Plague, it was an exception to the rule. After the plague had passed over London, the people returned to their normal class structure and what good conduct transpired during the Bubonic Plague was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Race Down Hillary Lane Badders 1 Brynn Badders Mrs. MacGee Communication Arts IIB 27 April 2015 The Race Down Hillary Lane Broken bones are a common injury; an average of 6 million people in the United States will break a bone each year ( Physical Fields ). Unfortunately, I was one of those people. It was Wednesday, August 19th, 2009, the first night of my fifth grade year. I was so nervous, but thrilled to continue attending school at Ridgeview Elementary School. Little did I know I would be out of school for two weeks and come back with a bright pink cast covering my left arm. I had just received my brand new pink bike and wanted to go on a steamy evening cruise. I already knew how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was going so fast that I lost all control of my bike and could not come to a complete stop. I flipped over the handlebars on my bike and heard my left wrist snap like a branch. It was one of the most frightful sounds that I have ever heard. I can still remember the brutal, ear wrenching sound to this day. Thankfully, my neighbors were outside and they saw me fall onto the hard, rough cement. I was in so much pain, so I laid there on the ground with gruesome scrapes and bruises thinking, God please help me. My face turned as red as a fire hydrant, while I balled my eyes out. As soon as I looked down at my wrist I kept telling myself this isn t broken, this can not be happening. While my worried looking neighbor was walking my bike back to my house, I was slowly walking with him and Carson. Carson immediately ran into the house screaming, HELP! My parents came running out to see what problem existed. My neighbor made sure that my parents were aware of everything that happened and eventually left after being truly appreciated by them. I weakly walked into my house then, sat on my bed while still crying profusely. The tears of pain and fear did not stop for a long time. I kept telling my family that I wanted to go to my friend Nikki s house because her mom is a nurse. I trusted her with my whole heart and wanted to get her perspective on my wrist. • 5. How Did The Spanish Civil War Change In Barcelona City At the start of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, there was a general revolutionary atmosphere amongst the people in Barcelona. Worker s revolutionary parties had taken over the city, boasting their signature red and black flags with hammer and sickles plastered to every wall. Churches were demolished because of their hierarchical leadership and relationship to the bourgeoisie. Shops and cafés were collectivized and were painted with the red and black colors of revolution. The streets of Barcelona remained full of boisterous crowds walking along to revolutionary songs being played over the city. Not only had the town undergone a complete transformation, but the people of Barcelona had also changed dramatically. There was virtually no evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who disagreed with the power of the working class were gone or laid low only to blend in until war passed. The Spanish Civil War had sparked a belief of revolution and equality in Barcelona, and also an atmosphere of war. The untidiness of war left streets dimly lit and shops scarce and unkempt. There were shortages of necessary food items such as bread, as well as limited supplies of coal and petrol. But despite the elements of war, there was little unemployment and due to the low cost of living, very little begging. The people of Spain fought for a revolution to keep democracy, to decrease the power of the church, and to take back the land, unions, and factories. Above all, there was a belief in the revolution and the future, a feeling of having suddenly emerged into an era of equality and freedom. (Page ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Science Of Team Building Team Synergy to Succeed Aristotle is credited with stating the whole is greater than the simple sum of its parts. This also represents the definition of synergy. Synergy is the unified working of the sum to create something greater than the individual components. For instance a car engine is comprised of an engine block, belts, hoses, spark plugs, and other miscellaneous components. Individually these components are not going to propel a vehicle however when put together and fed some fuel the components create the oomph needed to support transportation. In sports and business the cooperation and collaboration of people in organizations is no different. The people within these groups must be working in a unified manner toward a common set of goals and objectives. This common set of goals and objective provides the end point so that a team of people have the necessary oomph, to achieve outcomes that would otherwise be unattainable by a single individual. The science of team building is an art. The uncontrollable variables are people. Just putting a group of talented individuals together for the sole purpose of goal achievement can be met with disastrous results. It can leave individuals left feeling unfulfilled and lead to costly mistakes in the long run. While team building can be considered an art, there are some methods and approaches that can assist with successful builds. While no approach is full proof, taking time to acclimate oneself with human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Constitutional Changes After The American Revolution Merriam Webster s dictionary defines a revolution as an, activity or movement designed to effect fundamental changes in the socioeconomic situation. or, a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something. In this sense, the constitutional and social developments of the United States of America between 1860 and 1877 amount to a drastic revolution. Previously to Abraham Lincoln s election to the position of the American Presidency, slavery was an institution deeply rooted in Southern American s way of life. Throughout Lincoln s terms and following his assassination, America underwent many constitutional changes and dealt with a changing social order as well. The most notable of these was the uprooting of the institution of slavery and the effect it had on the United States of America. Senator John Sherman, a Republican from Ohio, gave a speech in congress in 1863 in which he discussed new banking and currency systems. In this speech, he highlighted some revolutionary actions taken by states. He stated that, It has been the principle of states rights, that bad sentiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. Sing A Musical Analysis Is Sing a Classic? What makes a classic movie, a classic? Some people may say it is the actors or actresses in the movie, the directors, or the setting. Although all of these components are important in a movie, they do not make the movie a classic. A classic movie is all about connection the movie makes with its audience. The more emotion the movie can draw from its viewers, the more the viewers can connect with the movie. Having a good plot and story is a must to consider a movie to be a classic. A classic movie also needs to be memorable to the audience. With a classic it is all about the lasting impression on its viewers (Weeks par. 5). The new 2016 movie, Sing, meets all the requirements to be a classic. Sing is an animated musical comedy directed by Garth Jennings and Christophe Lourdelet. Sing is rated PG, and has won the Top Box Office Films from ASCAP Film and won Outstanding Music Supervision from Hollywood Music In Media Awards in 2016 (Awards par. 1). The movie, Sing, is about a Koala named Buster Moon who hosts a singing contest to help his failing theater business. Sing is a classic movie that connects with the viewers, has a good story, and is memorable to the viewers. What is a Classic? In order for a movie to be considered a classic, a movie must possess three components. The movies success is based on the audience, it is the audience that make the movie (Weeks par. 5). • 9. An Owner s Manual For My Trek Bicycle Technical documents in most cases are really important, mainly because it helps explain the needs and procedures of a product/research. Technical documents can include anywhere from an owner s manual, to a journal article, to blogs in which case, I m choosing an owner s manual for my TREK bicycle. One of the nicest features of this manual that distinguishes it from many other owner s manual is the fact that it provides not only a hardcopy of the manual but also a compact disc (CD). On the CD, the customer has the ability to get a translated version of the manual. When I bought the bike, TREK authorized dealer, provided me with a physical copy which was solidly in English which is not a problem for me but customers in other regions of the United States or other parts of the world may need a translated manual in order to understand it. With the CD, English as second language customers have the same ability as I do to understand the manual rather than having to go to translators or translating websites. So TREK does not really have a specific range of customers they are targeting but if you speak other languages than those on the website would be problem but they still have the ability to link the manual on the CD to the company website in order to check for other languages TREK may have translated into. After reading majority of the manual, I can conclude that the manual basically meets all the requirement of the excellence in technical documents. The manual is honest in the ... • 10. Avoid Automatic Car Washes When it comes to advertising your business, vehicle wraps can be among the most economical options. Whenever your company vehicle is driving, these wraps allow everyone around it to see your business s sign and contact information. However, it should be noted that these wraps require some protective care to ensure they always look appealing to prospective customers. If you are unfamiliar with the care requirements for these wraps, the following couple of tips may help you to extend the usable life and protect the appearance of your business s wrap. Apply Vehicle Wrap Finish Every Few Months In addition to being careful when you wash the wrap, you will also need to apply a new coat of protective finish to the wrap every few months. These coatings will help reduce the chances that the wrap suffers a tear due to flying road debris. Also, the coating will help to prevent the sun s intense rays from bleaching the color out of your wrap. These finishes can be purchased from most automotive supply stores, and you will need to ensure that the vehicle has been thoroughly washed before applying the finish. If you apply the finish to a dirty exterior, it may not form a strong bond with the wrap, which will inhibit its protection. Having a vehicle wrap placed over your company car can be one of the most cost effective forms of advertising that you can utilize. However, you may not be aware of the type of care that a vehicle wrap needs to keep it looking good. Making sure that you avoid automatic car washes and apply a protective finish every few months will help you to keep your wrap safe from common sources of damages and ... • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Gun Laws In the United States, the gun laws need to be tightened, the laws that are in place now are too loose. If the United States tighten the gun laws we could cut down on deaths. It would also cut down on people acquiring firearms illegally like through families and friends, and legally but in unsafe ways like the Charleston Loophole. If the United States passes tighter gun laws the deaths would decrease and the United States will be a bit of a nicer place. The Charleston Loophole is a big example of the reason the United States needs tighter Gun Laws. From the years 2010 through 2016, the loophole allowed about 23,000 guns to be sold to dangerous people (source 1). To buy a gun you had to go through a three business day background check. If that check could not be completed within the three business day time period, by federal law the stores were allowed to sell people the guns without the background check completed. If there was a larger time period for the background check the problem of dangerous people getting firearms, would diminish. All the background checks that have been completed have blocked more than two million dangerous people from getting firearms (also source 1). Also, most likely saved many lives which could have been taken if the people whose background checks were blocked. Another reason we should place tighter gun laws is that of how easy it is to acquire a gun. An article from the New York Times reviews a documentary called The New Radical . That documentary talked about a person named Cody Wilson, who released the first known 3D printer plans to create a gun. He named the gun The Liberator, and it is a single shot pistol made in a 3D printer. His gun plans had people questioning the boundaries of the 2nd amendment. Most other people would use the easier way like Daniel Webster said: When criminals get guns, they get them from friends, family, or from an underground market source. (source 1 article 2) Meaning that criminals and dangerous people could have a friend who is not convicted of a crime or clean buy the gun they use to kill or hurt a lot of people. This just shows how easy it is to obtain a working gun or gun substitute. The people who disagree with the statement We should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, rules concerning what to wear on game days, whether team lunches are required, etc. I will leave up to my team to decide at the beginning of the season. If they come to love the sport and would like to play on in college, I want them to be able to have that opportunity. • 18. Definition Essay Re-Defining The Unknown Re Defining the Unknown My original definition: Comprehending monstrosity is only possible when you begin to re think the idea of villainous creatures. The physicality leads to a better understanding of what makes something visibly monstrous. Whereas within behavioral qualities, it is acknowledged that, the missing range of emotion helps to separate them from humanity. Lastly, cultural significance defines what we recognize as monstrous because it is defined differently through cultures. Defining the unknown is a concept that originally seemed impossible to wrap my mind around, but analyzing the gray area that is a monstrous being has shed light on a subject that was once in the darkest part of my imagination. There will always be that little spark of empathy, an event that will make the viewer feel sorry for the tragedy that is the monster. However, on the other hand as humans we all have monstrous tendencies. My new definition embodies the definition of boundary dwelling because in my opinion there is a very thin line between human and monster. Sometimes monsters are treated as an entirely different species, but if we are discussing the true nature of monsters, we are actually discussing a corrupted human. Cohen emphasizes that monsters are disturbing hybrids whose externally incoherent bodies resist attempts to include them in any systematic structuration. (Monster Culture: Seven Theses 14). Cohen is trying to explain that monsters are conflicting in the aspect that they embody both human and animalistic qualities. They are detached from reality, yet we can see parts of ourselves within them. When Cohan states that they resist systematic structuration, I think he means that monsters can not function in society. Monsters are represented differently throughout different cultures, but there is one quality that each monster has: Rage. You define something as monstrous based off of a scale of how much negative emotion is accompanied by the presence of the subject itself. • 19. Analysis Of The Sweet Hereafter By Mitchelll Stephens The Man with a Mission, Mitchell Stephens Sometimes there is a situation that one is dragged in to, such as some type of accident. For example, Mitchell Stephens is one of the narrators in The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks. In his side of the story, he is a lawyer from New York who heard about a bus accident in Sam Dent where ten children died in a bus crash. Mitchell is also the one lawyer representing Risa Walker and her husband in a negligence suit that financially compensated them for the loss of their son Sean. Mitchell is not only just a lawyer like many others but also had more experience. He sympathizes with the parents who lost their children in the accident because like these parents who lost their children he also has a daughter Zoe, who is he can consider dead due to her drug problem. To this reason, Mitchell Stephen has the most to gain by telling his tale to the reader because he seeks to relieve himself from his grief and to help future children riding to school who do not have to come to the same fate as others in the accident. One reason why Mitchell is trying to gain something by telling his tale is that he trying to help the people who lost their children in the accident. Mitchell might a lawyer but he did not come to San Dent just because there was a good case like the bus accident and he it was good pay, no, not Mitchell, he even said it himself that he did not come for the money as Mitchell said people immediately assume we re greedy, that it s money we re after, people call us ambulance chasers and so on, like we re the proctologists of the profession, and, yes, there is lots of those ((Banks 90). The reason he came to San Dent was that he was angry because he knows this was not just an accident as he Mitchell said I knew at once that it wasn t an accident at all. There are no accidents. (Banks 91). Mitchell wanted to help the people from San Dent by making them as angry as he was. To forget about their grief and Point their anger to the one who is the culprit. Other reason to why Mitchell is the one narrator in The Sweet Hereafter that is trying to gain something by telling his tale is because of him a man on a mission. How Did Exxel Differentiate Itself From Other Private... 1) What was the key strategy that Navarro pursued from 1991 on to establish Exxel as a leading Latin American private equity organization? How did Exxel differentiate itself from other private equity competitors? Juan Navarro, the former Chairman of Citigroup Capital Investors S.A. (CCI) in Buenos Aires, founded the Exxel Group in 1991. Due to his family s influential background in Uruguayan and Argentine political and financial establishments, as well as his own work with the CCI, Navarro was well connected and highly experienced in the financial and political sectors, and in private equity itself. Each fund was always devoted to a single transaction, which had the advantage of being very focused on and informed about the transaction itself, as well as all corresponding circumstances. To differentiate itself from other private equity groups, Exxel built on Navarro s unique strength: his ability to originate deals, based on his strong ties with local business community [!], and then to add value to these enterprises . Exxel also put diligent work in their target selection. To maximize the success rates, they first picked the most attractive industries, and then chose the best firms within those industries. • 24. Stereotypes In Paul Theroux sBeing A Man There are two types of men portrayed by the media. There is the lazy dad who spends all day sitting in the recliner eating potato chips and watching television. This man always has his wife taking care of everything while he is a bumbling fool who can do nothing right. This man is harmless and unintelligent. Then there is the action hero man. This man has a rugged, muscular build and is usually very attractive. He can accomplish any task using his fist, but struggles to think through things logically. Every man sees these two stereotypes and begins to try to fit one of them. This leads the man to ask himself the question What is a Man? . Being a man is not letting stereotypes define him, standing firm in his convictions, but being accepting of others at the same time, knowing when or when not to take action, and having a dream. If asked what does it mean to be a man? the most common responses would be answers like protector, provider, and taking charge. While there is inherently nothing wrong with these answers the real problem lies in the fact which all men cannot live up to these standards. These men are left questioning themselves on their masculinity. A man should not let stereotypes define him. Paul Theroux addresses many of the common stereotypes in his essay Being a Man , I was told to take up a sport, get more fresh air, join the Boy Scouts, and I was urged not to read so much. and Being a drunkard is another assertion, if misplaced, of manliness... A man proves his manhood in America in old fashioned ways. He kills lions, like Hemingway; or he hunts ducks. like Nathanael West; or he makes pronouncements like, A man should carry enough knife to defend himself with, as James Jones once said to a Life interviewer (Theroux). Theroux addresses these common stereotypes to prove how futile they are. A man should not let other people s idea of how a man should be influence them. Many of the stereotypes listed by Theroux are unfeasible and hard for any man to accomplish, further adding to the futility of them. The fact that most parents are not comfortable talking about the subject with their children only increases the importance of doing so in our schools. In addition, I would like to seek a research project that kind of nails down the diagnostic stage of Alzheimer s. Currently, there is research out there that talk about the buildup of plaque but there also counter arguments that state how 80 years olds present with this plaque do not even show the slightest symptoms of dementia which counters what modern medicine is saying about the plaques being linked to Alzheimer s.
