Okonkwo Western Culture Analysis
In the third grade, I remember bringing noodles to lunch, and all of my white classmates looking at me
strangely. Little did I know, Americans did not bring noodles to lunch, but rather simpler things, such
as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and lunchables. Although my introduction to the western culture
was nothing as close to the Ibo people s introduction to the western culture, it is clear that different
cultures often have a hard time understanding the customs of another culture. Okonkwo s response to
new western influences spreading through his clan depicts how the introduction of different cultures
can lead to disagreement because of contrasting religious values and customs. To begin, Okonkwo s
response to the Europeans shows how differences in customs and values can lead to conflict. When
Okonkwo returns to Umuofia, he is surprised that his clan has been taken over by the Europeans and
that people were starting to give up preserving their own religion and customs. When he confronts
Obierika, Obierika explains to Okonkwo, How do you think we can fight when our own brothers have
turned against us? ... Now he has won our brothers, and our clan can no longer act like one. He has put
a knife on the things that held us together and we have fallen apart. Okonkwo feels betrayed as many
of his clan members have left and joined the Europeans, showing the clash between Ibo culture and
Western culture. The Ibo people value staying true to their own traditions while the

The Pros And Cons Of Refugee Camps
Introduction
Since the beginning of history, the world has passed through a significant number of conflicts and
wars, each defending a position. The reasons are usually religion beliefs, territory acquisition, and the
search of the increase of power. During these conflicts, victims that suffered the consequences, losing
their shelter as an example, end up leaving that area and are consequently seen as refugees in their
new living area. Refugee camps should make them adapt to the new country, supporting them with
supplies after such a difficult time, but that is not what has happened during these years. The refugees
are treated badly, the camps have poor hygiene and health care, no education programs, neither the
minimum acquired in the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several refugee camps around Europe, such as in Italy, Hungary, Greece and other countries.
Plenty of those face struggles when dealing with the quality inside a camp. Most of them do not
present half of the living conditions required, even the minimum acquired from the human rights.
According to the researches of UNHCR, camps are facing, as a difficult obstacle, problems to solve to
according to the quantity of liters of water per person. Some do not have satisfactory latrine facilities,
nor decent water disposal services.
The number of refugee has been increasing every year. The individuals who reside these camps as a
refugee are allowed to stay in the camp for eighteen months maximum so that they can be integrated
into society. Living one whole year in poor conditions, as found in these pauperized refugee camps,
may lead to a chance of serious diseases because of water contamination and bad hygiene. In the past
years, cholera is a disease found in many people who live in refugee camps in the past years,
transmitted by bacteria in a contaminated water

Catastrophes and Stress
Ailen Fernandez PSY 102 April 21, 2013 Jones, Jennifer Catastrophes and Stress American Leader
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, An individual has not started living until he can rise above the
narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity (Martin).
Luther King believed that in order for us humans to have a meaningful live we must put aside our
personal problems and care about the problems of humanity as a whole. The earthquake of Oakland,
California in 1989 is a true example of this quote. As the sirens of ambulances roared through the
abolished city thousands of civilians gathered together, taking risks, to help those that were in the

Although the Kelly s admit to survivors guilt based on their own footage it seems like they could have
done more to prevent the tragedy that happen when the other car dumped into the whole. The only
thing that Debbie and Thomas Kelly did to warn upcoming light was to put on their flashing light.
Debbie took out her recording camera and started to record the gap between the highway, meantime a
car was coming and didn t see the gap crashed in it. Instead of recording Debbie and Thomas should
have tried to grab the attention of the drivers so that they wouldn t have fallen through the road gap.
They now experience survivors guilt because they survived not crashing into the road gap when the
others did (Amaldo, 2004). Survivors guilt has been studied in many situations because it is a
psychological disorder that affects individuals that have survived a scarring catastrophe. The
Holocaust is one of these catastrophes that have left survivors with a sense of guilt. A study done by
Gertrude Schneider upon 50 Holocaust survivors demonstrated that some but not all had a sense of
survivors guilt (Schneider, 1975). Fourteen of the interviewed victims admitted that they felt bad for
being passive victims and that they would have preferred to have died honorably (Schneider, 1975).
Others said that there was no way that they could have fought back and prevent them from going
through that horrible experience of being in the camps (Schneider, 1975).

Write An Essay On The Dust Bowl
Imagine you lived during the time period where poor farming techniques were created, and dust was
being deposited or dropped into your lungs, forcing you to walk slowly down the steps of death. The
phenomenon, the Dust Bowl, took place in the United States during the years around the 1930 s. It
was an event that occurred in the United States, where the area it was taken place did not have moist
soil, healthy crops, and a considerable amount of water. During this time, the soil was poor, meaning
there was a small amount of nutrients in it. From this, it caused the seeds being planted to wilt, and
die.. Compost helps the nutrients and moisture to stay within the soil, in order to allow the plants to
not wither from being over watered or the lack of this liquid.
Plants, also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, these nutrients come from water, a colorless, transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid that
forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain, and most importantly, good soil, which are sediments broken
down by weathering. Compost would be considered as one of the most nutritional value to the plants,
even though it may not be necessary to use for planting. Despite this, it helps increase the nutritional
value given to the plants. According to the resource, https://bonnieplants.com/library/what is
compost/, it states, The organic matter in compost sponges up the fertilizer nutrients until they are
needed by plants. Compost also provides many nutrients that plants need in small amounts, such as
boron. Boron is a micronutrient for plants that benefits and are the causes of their development and
growth by strengthening and forming the stem cells. The stem cells are cells of a multicellular
organism that is capable of giving rise to more cells of the same type. In addition, there is

Taking a Look at Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is the use of Information Technology to harm or harass other people in a deliberate,
repeated, and hostile manner. According to U.S. Legal Definitions, Cyber bullying could be limited to
posting rumors or gossips about a person in the internet bringing about hatred in other s minds; or it
may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely defaming and
humiliating them. With the increase in use of these technologies, cyberbullying has become
increasingly common, especially among teenagers. Awareness has also risen, due in part to high
profile cases like the Suicide of Tyler Clementi. Definition Legal definition Cyberbullying is defined
in legal glossaries as actions that use information and communication technologies to support

The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Rhetorical Analysis
In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, the author Le Guin establishes the idea that one can not
enjoy happiness that results from the immoral, discriminatory victimization of someone else. Upon
first look, the city of Omelas seems like a fairy tale utopia where everyone is happy, yet underneath
this veil of splendor, there is a child that is neglected and abused to the point of where some people are
so sickened that they must leave Omelas. All of Omelas s glamour and joy depends solely on the
suffering of this child, and if the child were to be rescued, all goodness in Omelas would be destroyed.
The people of Omelas know that theirs is no vapid irresponsible happiness. They know that they, like
the child, are not free (47). The passage reveals that the people fully understand the terms of the child
s misery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, their happiness is not even true happiness because it is constantly shadowed by the
knowledge of the child s suffering, and yet paradoxically, they feel morally obligated to be happy for
the sake of the child. In a sense, they are so bound to the child that they do not have any more freedom
than the child itself. In contrast, there are also people who are so disturbed by this dark secret of the
child that they leave Omelas...toward [a] place...that [possibly] does not exist. But they seem to know
where they are going (47). To leave Omelas for the unknown would need considerable courage, but
they know that they will never be truly happy staying in Omelas. Just like how the people of Omelas
know that the joy built upon successful slaughter is not the right kind of joy, those who leave
understand that happiness at the expense of a scapegoat, such as the child, is also not the right kind of
joy

Witch Trials In The Late Medieval Era
It s the turn of an era, the Late Medieval era is ending and the Early Modern era is beginning, the
protestant reformation was happening causing widespread fear in Christians around the world as the
fear that the devil could be anywhere leading Christians away from the light of their lord, The most
feared sect of devil worshippers were the witches and sorcerers, who were believed to have given their
soul to the devil in return for wicked powers beyond the understanding and sight of man. The first
allowance of witch trials was by the Pope Innocent VIII s with his issuing of the Summis desiderantes
affectibus (in the late Medieval era) which declared that witches were real and that the Inquisition had
papal authority to try them, In 1542 England passed a law making it a crime to be a witch with the
punishment being death, later it was repealed, but was restored by a new act in 1562, Many laws and
decrees like these were issued throughout the Christian world from 1484 to the end of the witch trials
in 1782.
The early days of the Witch Trials in Europe and America were marked with many small trials held in
villages throughout both continents with the first being recognized as the burning of accused witches
in Valais Switzerland in 1428 with the estimated prosecuted being somewhere from 100 to 200 this is
the recorded estimate until 1430 thereafter there are no records, this occurred after delegates from
seven districts who urged authorities to investigate for sign of witchcraft

Direct Democracy In Ancient Greek City
Direct democracy derives its power from citizens debating and voting directly on all laws and policies.
Ancient Greek City State portrayed direct democracy by allowing the legislature to be made up of all
the citizens. To add, women, foreigners, and slaves were excluded because they weren t citizens.
Furthermore, participation is key, concluding that direct democracy is carried out most easily in small
political communities. Due to spread of democratic policies, representative democracy was
established. It s defined as a form of government in which citizens elect a representative to take charge
of all laws and policies. Elections are held for government officials, universal suffrage allows all
adults to take action and vote for their representative.

14000 Military Job Opportunities For Women Essay
The Defense Department recently announced new policies that will open more than 14,000 military
job opportunities to women. Which seems like a great step except that more than 200,000 positions
will still remain exclusive to men, from front line infantry positions to high level special operations
roles. States Dani Moritz from The Muse. (Mortiz) Women have been thrown out of spotlight when it
came to genuine positions. Does this shout disparity for women, as well as stereotyping and it for the
most part tosses women s rights ideal out of the window?
Women began to climb the ladder and finally became equal to men, well almost. Women s rights
include, but is not limited to positions that any man can hold, promotions that were not allowed
beforehand last but not least socially and legal equality. As women, we can t continue to yell
inequality when we are not on the same playing field as men. We, women, have more leverage than
the men. Aspiring to be like men would require us to also go the same extra mile that the male has to
also. Women s right is not for us to be equal while also being held on a pedestal at the same time.
Equality goes both ways, it is for us, as well as men. The inequality of the military has men doing the
double of what women do because they are seen as being mentally and physically stronger. This
relates to the requirements of the military that they have in place which indeed need to be changed for
it to be deemed as an equal service. This identifies

The Negative Effects Of Video Games On Children For Children
What surrounds children in this generation? A screen that has people running around on it. People
vandalize the word video game and try to make it sound like it is bad. False accusations regarding
video games has been an issue in the past few months or maybe even a few years. Parents believe
video games make a child addicted and glued to the screen and damaging them physically and
mentally. The reality is, there is research it can actually improve a child s physical function by them
moving around and working out certain body parts. Video games have said to be non educational, a
bad influence and a health hazard for young children. False accusations coming to its user s is a
human rights violation because there has been research that video games can be healthy, educational
and nonviolent. Over the years many people say video games is hazardous for a child s health. Even
though there has been evidence linked to it, there is also evidence that video games can be beneficial
and educational due to it training the brain. The problem with video games is that it can be addictive
and can possibly ruin your health, or can it. Video Games are highly beneficial because they give
children a unique interactive learning environment (Deutsch 1). With that being said, to some people
video games might be a problem because it stop kids from going outside and doing activities, but the
upside is that they can be interactive with kids around the world who suit the same interest. Interacting

The Negative Effects Of De-Extinction
De extinction: a scientific breakthrough and a process in which humans can use genetic engineering to
bring back a species that was once extinct. Despite how intriguing it is that humans can accomplish
this, the act of using de extinction to bring back different species can be detrimental to the
environments that they are introduced into. Humans can control how they create and modify a species
that they bring back from extinction, an example being which species they use to replicate another
species and the modifications they make for it to be able to thrive. However, once they are let out into
an environment, the control lessens and the species can kill off different creatures and bring diseases
to others, overall having a negative effect. There is no telling what a species will do if it is brought
back from extinction, especially if that particular species died off decades or centuries ago and their
habitat is no longer what it once was. There would be a chance that they would be brought back from
extinction only to go extinct again. De extinction should be avoided because there are too many risks
such as costs, diseases, and the ideology that any species can come back after going extinct. De
extinction is finally emerging and being more widely spoken about as scientists and engineers plan the
process of bringing back the passenger pigeon. This can create a multitude of problems for the planet.
De extinction is the process in which a species is replicated or made similar

The Outsiders As A Disgrace In The Outsiders And Greasers
Being called a disgrace can be hurtful, but are you actually one? In the book, The outsiders, there are
two groups of people that are called Greasers and Socs. Characters in the novel tend to believe that
Greasers are troublemakers and Socs are the higher class teens. Socs are a disgrace because of their
actions and attitudes. The Socs are a disgrace because they beat up greasers based off of their money
issues and the side of a city they live on. If you are someone who is rich like a soc and is in a better
environment and situation you are expected to be more respectful. Teens with a strong foundation are
more responsible, and kids who have no parents or anyone that is a positive role model end up doing
more of what they want. Kids that grow up on a wrong side of town tend to make the most crimes
based off of how they were raised. As a Soc, they are being a disgrace by the way they act. Most
people in this novel think that Greasers are a disgrace, but no one notices how badly the Socs treat
Greasers. The socs bully greasers and that could be causing more anger to build in the greasers that
cause them to act out. Socs verbally and physically abuse them, it s one thing to steal but it s another
when you hurt someone mentally or physically on purpose. I ve seen with my own eyes that kids who
have been hurt by others or their parents cause them to act out and do things they normally wouldn t
do because of their built up anger. No one knows what happens at home for a

Disadvantages Of Virtual Learning Environment
The past decades were marked by the rapid development of the technology and the Internet. Such
rapid development has enabled the development of many other modern methods and approaches, such
as virtual learning environment (VLE), i.e. learning via the Internet []. A virtual learning environment
allows learners and all others engaged in education and teaching to free themselves from the
limitations of time and space, and carry out learning interactions in a flexible timeframe and virtual
sites that are not physically tied to one another. So, the VLE can be consider as a kind of online
learning platform which allows teachers to share educational materials with their students via the web.
Additionally, the development and presence of the computer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Due to that, the use of the VLE has increased and most of schools and universities now have a
functioning Virtual Learning Environment as a part of their teaching and learning programs. For
instance, even in primary and secondary schools the Internet based activities are generally added to
enrich presently learning activities.
It is important to highlight the deference between the virtual learning environment and the virtual
campus, which people usually equate. The virtual campus relates just to the University courses, while
the virtual learning environment relates to many other sectors. Also, if we are talking about the VLE
intended just for the university education, the virtual campus covers a set of courses which is in the
most of cases the whole education course which ends with diploma, while the virtual learning
environment can be employed even for smaller parts of the education

Dramaturgy Concepts in NCIS
Introduction
The dramaturgical perspective views our daily interaction like we are in a stage performance all the
time. In the Tv show NCIS there are so many examples of dramaturgy. This shows so many of the
concepts of dramaturgy. This show is the navy version of CSI. NCIS is only called when it involves a
Navy officer that was either kidnapped or murdered. The cast on NCIS are Special Agent Leroy Jethro
Gibbs, forensic specialist Abby Sciuto, chief medical examiner Donald Mallard, Special Agent
Timothy McGee, Jimmy Palmer, Director Leon Vance, Agent Eleanor Ellie Bishop, Agent Nicholas

The interrogation room can become a back region when Gibb s wants to get something out of a
suspect. Gibbs will turn the video camera off and that is when it becomes part of the back region.
There are a couple of in face examples. The examples are at crime scenes and also while talking to the
victim s family. The agents are in face at a crime scene because they have to act like professionals and
they also want people to know that they are serious at their job. They are also in face when they have
go an inform the victim s family that the family member is dead, but they found out who murdered
them and that the murderer will get the punishment that they deserve. They are also in face when they
go and inform the family of the victim that they have found their family member alive.
There are so many moments that the NCIS team gets out of face. One moment was when Abby was
trying to find out who Ellie Bishop s boyfriend was and she did an analysis and it said it was Gibbs
but it turned out to be someone else. another moment was when McGee was trying to get someone
else to keep the engagement ring until he got up the courage to ask Delilah to marry him, so that
Delilah would not find the ring. To get his team back on track, Gibb s will sometimes give one of them
a slap in the back of the head.

Essay about Gattaca, A Film by Andrew Niccol
Gattaca, A Film by Andrew Niccol
Exactly five seconds after he came into the world, Vincent Freeman was already considered to be a
loser. His first genetic test revealed high probabilities of hyperactivity, sight troubles and serious heart
diseases, a life expectancy of 30 years and 2 months and quite low intellectual faculties. At that time,
the artificial insemination of test tube babies selected according to their genetic potential had become
for many people the natural way of making children . But Vincent s parents had preferred to let the
other nature take its course. Of course they regretted it, and for their next child they went to see a
geneticist. A perfect son has been born to them, a son who deserved to be called ... Show more content

This was called genoism and was forbidden but this law was not taken seriously.
Faced to this setback, he adopted the most radical solution. He met a man who introduced him Jerome
Morrow. Jerome is a former athlete who was paralyzed after an accident and condemned to move in a
wheelchair. He used to be a very good sportsman and had won a silver medal during the world
championship. But it was not his only quality. His whole genetic code was perfect. The man s task was
to help Vincent to take Jerome s identity. With such a profile, Vincent was to make a promising career
in Gattaca. The man provided them all the equipment they needed so that Vincent could join the
company and stay there under Jerome s identity, Vincent paid the man and Jerome s rent and Jerome
gave his genetic code. Jerome was a bitter character who could not accept his paralysis and who also
has difficulties to accept Vincent, the man who was going to become him, steal his identity. But little
by little, he understood that there was a real exchange between them. While he was giving Vincent his
life, Vincent gave him his dream and brought interest in his gloomy life.
Under Jerome s name and profile, Vincent climbed the rungs of Gattaca s hierarchical ladder very
quickly. Since any particle of his body could betray him, he used to brush his skin, his nails and his
hair as meticulously as possible, to vacuum his desk and leave Jerome s hair or skin dust instead. He

The Issue Of Annexation Movements Inside Canada
Isn t it sad to see a Parliament building burnt on the night of April 25th, 1849 to mark as one of our
historical importance of establishing Canada? The definition of annexation is to take over and
acquiring another state. Usually, it is implied that the territory and population being annexed is the
smaller and the weakest of the two merging state. By definition, Manifesto is a public declaration of
policy and aims. Annexation movements inside Canada were usually inspired by dissatisfaction with
Britain s colonial government of Canada. For example, a groups of Irish immigrants took the route of
attempting to annex the peninsula between the Detroit and Niagara Rivers to the U.S. by force in 1837
1838. The War of 1812 built up hatred overtime between the Americans and the British. But as a
result, there were no territorial changes. Another significant event before the Annexation Manifesto
was the Rebellion of 1837. It caused a backfire which led to a massive violence when Lower and
Upper Canada took arms to achieve a responsible government. Although the Rebellions of 1837 were
motivated in part by this type of dissatisfaction, Canadian resentment of British rule never reached the
degree that led to the American Revolution in 1775. Notably, Canada s population grew rapidly in the
late 18th and early 19th centuries. Canada s population grew due to United Empire Loyalists, who left
the American colonies during the Revolution because of their loyalty to Great Britain. In

Resistance to Liberalism Essay
RUNNING HEAD: RESISTANCE TO LIBERALISM
The Justification of Resisting Liberalism
Liberalism, in general, was an ideological movement that emerged out of the ideas of the
Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution in the early 19th century. It embraced the ideas of
individualism which were established in the Renaissance and Reformation era. The Renaissance
period sparked a belief in the importance of the individual in society. It helped promote the beliefs of
classical liberalism which gradually formed into the liberal ideology of the 19th century. Individuals
that were waiting to get their individual rights and freedoms were allowed to finally gain liberty and
power through this period of time. Classical liberalism developed ... Show more content on

Luddism, for example, was one of the ideologies that opposed the industrial changes that liberalism
brought. The jobs of the skilled textile workers were lost and replaced by machines operated by
unskilled laborers. The Luddites protested and even broke into factories, destroying many machinery.
Chartism was another example of the response to the unrecognized individual rights. Chartism was a
working class movement with the main focus on political and social reform in society (Fielding, 2009,
132). The Chartists wanted a political and social reform in society because they could be granted the
rights to participate in these aspects of society. Utopian Socialists were humanitarians who advocated
an end to the appalling conditions of the average worker in the industrial capitalist countries (Fielding,
2009, 134). They believed that education and the improved working conditions could peacefully
remove the worst aspects of capitalism and lead to an ideal socialist society where everyone would
live happily. It is therefore the interest of all, that everyone, from birth, should be well educated,
physically and mentally, that society may be improved in its character; that everyone should be
beneficially employed, physically, and mentally, that the greatest amount of wealth may be created
and knowledge attained.... (Fielding, 2009, 135). Another essential resistance to liberalism was
showcased by the ideology of classical conservatism. The beliefs of

Biodata Test There are many forms and methods of tests that are being used during selection process.
Biodata test is a type of exam that is used in selection process which uses background experience and
behaviors to predict applicant s performance on certain jobs. The biodata test I took was designed to
predict performance on a position in sales and customer services. The test predicts dependability,
positive customer service attitudes, retention, management potential, and performance of an applicant.
Based on score an applicant receive, the test gives recommendation to hiring management whether an
applicant is good fit for the position or not. Since I took the test after our discussion during class, I
probably had better glimpse of what it would like than other people who took before the class.
However, I was not sure what to look for in terms of questions and answers. I have heard about
various testing methods and types that companies use for selection, and I imagined one more similar
to academic test that measures intelligence. Yet, this test was different and some questions looked very
inappropriate or illegal in some sense. The test begun with asking basic information about me such as
name and address. I was not sure why they need address for the selection, but I had not had much of
issue with it. However, a question asking birth day was not comfortable to answer. I am relatively

In this instant appeal, Mr. Shoemaker asserts that the circuit court erred by imposing an improper
purge provision after finding him to be in contempt, and that the circuit court erred in finding that Mr.
Shoemaker would be liable for alimony payments in accordance with the parties original separation

I. The Circuit Court Did Not Craft an Improper Purge Provision in Its Contempt Order. The scope of

Cardiovascular Diseases
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The high range of
cardiovascular deaths is due to the severe effects on the heart. The heart works to pump blood in and
out of the heart to the organs that need it. A blockage or narrowing of the blood vessels can cause a
heart attack or severe complications to the heart. There are many different types of cardiovascular
diseases that can affect a patient s health and can cause complications to dental treatment. It is
important during the medical history to be aware of the patient s health history including
cardiovascular diseases and observing potential risk factors. The ASA physical status of each patient is
important to identify due to treatment modifications or limitations. Certain special needs of these
patients must be identified for further treatment. The two cardiovascular diseases being discussed in
this paper are myocardial infarction and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
Myocardial infarction is a term used for a heart attack and can cause special needs to be addressed
before the patient comes for an appointment. Myocardial infarction (MI), the second manifestation of
coronary heart disease, is a reduction of blood flow through one of the coronary arteries, resulting in
an infarct (Darby, Walsh, 2010, 213). This type of cardiovascular disease can lead to death if not

How Did Betsy Ross Make The American Flag
The American flag is the symbol of our nation s strength and unity. Many people wonder was it Betsy
Ross that sewed the American flag. Betsy Ross played a big role in making the first American Flag.
Betsy Ross was born on January 1, 1752 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her real name was Elizabeth
Griscom, her mom called her Betsy. She is one of seventeen children and was very close to her sisters.
During this time many girls didn t attend school, but she as one of the few that did and learned how to
read and write (USHistory, 2010). When she was twelve she took a job sewing tablecloths, curtains
and bedspreads. In this shop she met a man by the name of John Ross which she later married. Betsy

They had in hand a design for a flag. In that design the stars they had in mind had six points. Betsy
looks at the design took a piece of paper and folds it in half and cuts it. By cutting the piece of paper
she showed Washington, Ross and Morris that making a five point start is much more efficient. They
agree and take it back to Congress and pass the first flag. This flag would become the official flag of
the new United State of America. The flag had thirteen stars and thirteen stripes to represent the
thirteen colonies that won the Revolutionary War and became the United States of America. Today the
flag has fifty stars to represent the fifty States of America; however, the thirteen stripes still remain to
represent the thirteen colonies of Betsy Ross s time (Palazzo Craig, 2004).
As mentioned before the first American Flag had thirteen stars for the thirteen colonies. The American
flag is the symbol of our nation s strength and unity. The flag is a well known icon to our history. The
stars were in a circle so that no one colony would be viewed above another. It is reported that George
Washington said, Let the 13 stars in a circle stand as a new constellation in the heavens (Landau,

Media Self Esteem
At times, it can be hurtful when we do not get that attention that our friends get on social media as this
makes us feel as if we are nothing in this world. Michelle Linker can be equated with approval or self
esteem as she was a daily user of Instagram. She told her guardian that she feels anxiety over the likes
she got after she posted her pictures on his Instagram page. She said that she got only two likes and
she would ask herself what was really wrong with her. This greatly influenced her and lowered her self
esteem because she felt low and considered herself as a child of a lesser God compared to her
followers. In reality, when we all post something such as pictures of our own and don t get a lot of
likes, we always feel rejected which ultimately causes our self esteem to take a hit. This will always
affect our mind as a lot of question will ring each moment why we can be rejected. When we get likes
on our pages of Instagram or Facebook, the reward system in the brain is activated, and thus releases
dopamine, which causes individuals to associate likes with the same pleasure we may get or feel from
taking narcotics or any other drug that when you take, you feel well (Lin et al. 326).
Each moment we spend on social media sites such as Facebook and compare ourselves to others, the
more our self esteem lowers and the more we also get depressed. The worst part is that we forget to
take into account that a lot of what we see, particularly from celebrities and brands, is

Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis
Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the
title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the
author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that
nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the
very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the
reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty?
Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old
bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the
feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however.
Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of
disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to
become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots
continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known
by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure
on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of
imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be
describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy
or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never
go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went
to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the
reader wants it to

Borderline Personality Disorder ( Adhd )
Introduction Borderline Personality Disorder was first listed in the DSM in 1980. It is classified as a
cluster B personality disorder. Before then it was unsure if it was a disorder on its own, if it only
coexisted with other disorders, or only mocked other disorders. Most people suffering from BPD have
problems regulating emotions and thoughts, have impulsive and reckless behavior, and have unstable
relations with others. High rates of comorbidity occur with this disorder including; depression, anxiety
disorders, substance abuse, and eating disorders. BPD affects about four percent of the community, but
can be as high as twenty percent in many clinical psychiatric populations. It can be difficult to treat
because it responds poorly to most conventional methods of treatment and because of how little we
still know about it. There have been many great discoveries about BPD in only a few decades. There
are still many questions to be answered about this disorder, but it has gone from a label attached to
those who did not quite fit into other categories to a completely separate and somewhat understood
mental illness. History First recorded accounts of symptoms associated with BPD can be found in
medical literature from almost three thousand years ago. Adolph Stern would be the first to describe
the symptoms, possible causes, and what he thought to be the best treatment. Stern referred to patients
with these symptoms as the border line group. In the 1940 s Robert Knight

The hypotheses that was tested was that people are more likely to reciprocate a smile to a passerby on
a sunny day rather than a cloudy day.
3. What previous work or theories informed the study?
There have been several studies done that show human social relationships and behavior are positively

When they were first analyzing the data, they realized there was not a significant difference in cloudy

a 2x2x2 log linear analysis was applied. After more evaluation they were able to pinpoint some
differences and identify what was important.
11. What is the pattern of results for each broad question that was addressed?
Overall, passersby reciprocated a smile more readily on sunnier days than on cloudier days. It seemed
that both men and women were more likely to smile back if the confederate was a woman. They saw
that men were less likely to smile back to another man.

  • 2. Okonkwo Western Culture Analysis In the third grade, I remember bringing noodles to lunch, and all of my white classmates looking at me strangely. Little did I know, Americans did not bring noodles to lunch, but rather simpler things, such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and lunchables. Although my introduction to the western culture was nothing as close to the Ibo people s introduction to the western culture, it is clear that different cultures often have a hard time understanding the customs of another culture. Okonkwo s response to new western influences spreading through his clan depicts how the introduction of different cultures can lead to disagreement because of contrasting religious values and customs. To begin, Okonkwo s response to the Europeans shows how differences in customs and values can lead to conflict. When Okonkwo returns to Umuofia, he is surprised that his clan has been taken over by the Europeans and that people were starting to give up preserving their own religion and customs. When he confronts Obierika, Obierika explains to Okonkwo, How do you think we can fight when our own brothers have turned against us? ... Now he has won our brothers, and our clan can no longer act like one. He has put a knife on the things that held us together and we have fallen apart. Okonkwo feels betrayed as many of his clan members have left and joined the Europeans, showing the clash between Ibo culture and Western culture. The Ibo people value staying true to their own traditions while the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Refugee Camps Introduction Since the beginning of history, the world has passed through a significant number of conflicts and wars, each defending a position. The reasons are usually religion beliefs, territory acquisition, and the search of the increase of power. During these conflicts, victims that suffered the consequences, losing their shelter as an example, end up leaving that area and are consequently seen as refugees in their new living area. Refugee camps should make them adapt to the new country, supporting them with supplies after such a difficult time, but that is not what has happened during these years. The refugees are treated badly, the camps have poor hygiene and health care, no education programs, neither the minimum acquired in the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several refugee camps around Europe, such as in Italy, Hungary, Greece and other countries. Plenty of those face struggles when dealing with the quality inside a camp. Most of them do not present half of the living conditions required, even the minimum acquired from the human rights. According to the researches of UNHCR, camps are facing, as a difficult obstacle, problems to solve to according to the quantity of liters of water per person. Some do not have satisfactory latrine facilities, nor decent water disposal services. The number of refugee has been increasing every year. The individuals who reside these camps as a refugee are allowed to stay in the camp for eighteen months maximum so that they can be integrated into society. Living one whole year in poor conditions, as found in these pauperized refugee camps, may lead to a chance of serious diseases because of water contamination and bad hygiene. Catastrophes and Stress Ailen Fernandez PSY 102 April 21, 2013 Jones, Jennifer Catastrophes and Stress American Leader Martin Luther King Jr. once said, An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity (Martin). Luther King believed that in order for us humans to have a meaningful live we must put aside our personal problems and care about the problems of humanity as a whole. The earthquake of Oakland, California in 1989 is a true example of this quote. As the sirens of ambulances roared through the abolished city thousands of civilians gathered together, taking risks, to help those that were in the borderline of life and death. Although the Kelly s admit to survivors guilt based on their own footage it seems like they could have done more to prevent the tragedy that happen when the other car dumped into the whole. The only thing that Debbie and Thomas Kelly did to warn upcoming light was to put on their flashing light. Debbie took out her recording camera and started to record the gap between the highway, meantime a car was coming and didn t see the gap crashed in it. Instead of recording Debbie and Thomas should have tried to grab the attention of the drivers so that they wouldn t have fallen through the road gap. They now experience survivors guilt because they survived not crashing into the road gap when the others did (Amaldo, 2004). Survivors guilt has been studied in many situations because it is a psychological disorder that affects individuals that have survived a scarring catastrophe. The Holocaust is one of these catastrophes that have left survivors with a sense of guilt. A study done by Gertrude Schneider upon 50 Holocaust survivors demonstrated that some but not all had a sense of survivors guilt (Schneider, 1975). Fourteen of the interviewed victims admitted that they felt bad for being passive victims and that they would have preferred to have died honorably (Schneider, 1975). Others said that there was no way that they could have fought back and prevent them from going through that horrible experience of being in the camps (Schneider, 1975). ... • 6. Write An Essay On The Dust Bowl Imagine you lived during the time period where poor farming techniques were created, and dust was being deposited or dropped into your lungs, forcing you to walk slowly down the steps of death. The phenomenon, the Dust Bowl, took place in the United States during the years around the 1930 s. It was an event that occurred in the United States, where the area it was taken place did not have moist soil, healthy crops, and a considerable amount of water. During this time, the soil was poor, meaning there was a small amount of nutrients in it. From this, it caused the seeds being planted to wilt, and die.. • 9. The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Rhetorical Analysis In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, the author Le Guin establishes the idea that one can not enjoy happiness that results from the immoral, discriminatory victimization of someone else. Upon first look, the city of Omelas seems like a fairy tale utopia where everyone is happy, yet underneath this veil of splendor, there is a child that is neglected and abused to the point of where some people are so sickened that they must leave Omelas. All of Omelas s glamour and joy depends solely on the suffering of this child, and if the child were to be rescued, all goodness in Omelas would be destroyed. The people of Omelas know that theirs is no vapid irresponsible happiness. They know that they, like the child, are not free (47). The passage reveals that the people fully understand the terms of the child s misery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, there are also people who are so disturbed by this dark secret of the child that they leave Omelas...toward [a] place...that [possibly] does not exist. But they seem to know where they are going (47). To leave Omelas for the unknown would need considerable courage, but they know that they will never be truly happy staying in Omelas. The first allowance of witch trials was by the Pope Innocent VIII s with his issuing of the Summis desiderantes affectibus (in the late Medieval era) which declared that witches were real and that the Inquisition had papal authority to try them, In 1542 England passed a law making it a crime to be a witch with the punishment being death, later it was repealed, but was restored by a new act in 1562, Many laws and decrees like these were issued throughout the Christian world from 1484 to the end of the witch trials in 1782. • 12. 14000 Military Job Opportunities For Women Essay The Defense Department recently announced new policies that will open more than 14,000 military job opportunities to women. Which seems like a great step except that more than 200,000 positions will still remain exclusive to men, from front line infantry positions to high level special operations roles. States Dani Moritz from The Muse. (Mortiz) Women have been thrown out of spotlight when it came to genuine positions. Does this shout disparity for women, as well as stereotyping and it for the most part tosses women s rights ideal out of the window? Women began to climb the ladder and finally became equal to men, well almost. Women s rights include, but is not limited to positions that any man can hold, promotions that were not allowed beforehand last but not least socially and legal equality. As women, we can t continue to yell inequality when we are not on the same playing field as men. We, women, have more leverage than the men. Aspiring to be like men would require us to also go the same extra mile that the male has to also. Women s right is not for us to be equal while also being held on a pedestal at the same time. Equality goes both ways, it is for us, as well as men. The inequality of the military has men doing the double of what women do because they are seen as being mentally and physically stronger. Despite how intriguing it is that humans can accomplish this, the act of using de extinction to bring back different species can be detrimental to the environments that they are introduced into. Humans can control how they create and modify a species that they bring back from extinction, an example being which species they use to replicate another species and the modifications they make for it to be able to thrive. However, once they are let out into an environment, the control lessens and the species can kill off different creatures and bring diseases to others, overall having a negative effect. There is no telling what a species will do if it is brought back from extinction, especially if that particular species died off decades or centuries ago and their habitat is no longer what it once was. There would be a chance that they would be brought back from extinction only to go extinct again. De extinction should be avoided because there are too many risks such as costs, diseases, and the ideology that any species can come back after going extinct. • 23. The Issue Of Annexation Movements Inside Canada Isn t it sad to see a Parliament building burnt on the night of April 25th, 1849 to mark as one of our historical importance of establishing Canada? The definition of annexation is to take over and acquiring another state. Usually, it is implied that the territory and population being annexed is the smaller and the weakest of the two merging state. By definition, Manifesto is a public declaration of policy and aims. Annexation movements inside Canada were usually inspired by dissatisfaction with Britain s colonial government of Canada. For example, a groups of Irish immigrants took the route of attempting to annex the peninsula between the Detroit and Niagara Rivers to the U.S. by force in 1837 1838. The War of 1812 built up hatred overtime between the Americans and the British. But as a result, there were no territorial changes. Another significant event before the Annexation Manifesto was the Rebellion of 1837. It caused a backfire which led to a massive violence when Lower and Upper Canada took arms to achieve a responsible government. Although the Rebellions of 1837 were motivated in part by this type of dissatisfaction, Canadian resentment of British rule never reached the degree that led to the American Revolution in 1775. • 28. Circuit Court Case Study In this instant appeal, Mr. Shoemaker asserts that the circuit court erred by imposing an improper purge provision after finding him to be in contempt, and that the circuit court erred in finding that Mr. Shoemaker would be liable for alimony payments in accordance with the parties original separation agreement. We shall address both of these arguments in turn. I. The Circuit Court Did Not Craft an Improper Purge Provision in Its Contempt Order. The scope of our review of a trial court s contempt finding is as follows: (a) Scope of review. Any person may appeal from any order or judgment passed to preserve the power or vindicate the dignity of the court and adjudge him in contempt of court, including an interlocutory order, remedial in nature, adjudging any person in contempt, whether or not a party to the action. • 29. Cardiovascular Diseases And Cardiovascular Disease Cardiovascular Diseases Tiffanie McKee Hiwassee College Cardiovascular Diseases Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The high range of cardiovascular deaths is due to the severe effects on the heart. The heart works to pump blood in and out of the heart to the organs that need it. A blockage or narrowing of the blood vessels can cause a heart attack or severe complications to the heart. There are many different types of cardiovascular diseases that can affect a patient s health and can cause complications to dental treatment. It is important during the medical history to be aware of the patient s health history including cardiovascular diseases and observing potential risk factors. The ASA physical status of each patient is important to identify due to treatment modifications or limitations. Certain special needs of these patients must be identified for further treatment. The two cardiovascular diseases being discussed in this paper are myocardial infarction and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Myocardial infarction is a term used for a heart attack and can cause special needs to be addressed before the patient comes for an appointment. Myocardial infarction (MI), the second manifestation of coronary heart disease, is a reduction of blood flow through one of the coronary arteries, resulting in an infarct (Darby, Walsh, 2010, 213). Betsy looks at the design took a piece of paper and folds it in half and cuts it. By cutting the piece of paper she showed Washington, Ross and Morris that making a five point start is much more efficient. They agree and take it back to Congress and pass the first flag. This flag would become the official flag of the new United State of America. The flag had thirteen stars and thirteen stripes to represent the thirteen colonies that won the Revolutionary War and became the United States of America. Today the flag has fifty stars to represent the fifty States of America; however, the thirteen stripes still remain to represent the thirteen colonies of Betsy Ross s time (Palazzo Craig, 2004). As mentioned before the first American Flag had thirteen stars for the thirteen colonies. The American flag is the symbol of our nation s strength and unity. The flag is a well known icon to our history. The stars were in a circle so that no one colony would be viewed above another. • 31. Media Self Esteem At times, it can be hurtful when we do not get that attention that our friends get on social media as this makes us feel as if we are nothing in this world. Michelle Linker can be equated with approval or self esteem as she was a daily user of Instagram. She told her guardian that she feels anxiety over the likes she got after she posted her pictures on his Instagram page. She said that she got only two likes and she would ask herself what was really wrong with her. This greatly influenced her and lowered her self esteem because she felt low and considered herself as a child of a lesser God compared to her followers. In reality, when we all post something such as pictures of our own and don t get a lot of likes, we always feel rejected which ultimately causes our self esteem to take a hit. This will always affect our mind as a lot of question will ring each moment why we can be rejected. When we get likes on our pages of Instagram or Facebook, the reward system in the brain is activated, and thus releases dopamine, which causes individuals to associate likes with the same pleasure we may get or feel from taking narcotics or any other drug that when you take, you feel well (Lin et al. 326). Each moment we spend on social media sites such as Facebook and compare ourselves to others, the more our self esteem lowers and the more we also get depressed. The worst part is that we forget to take into account that a lot of what we see, particularly from celebrities and brands, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty? Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however. Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the reader wants it to ... • 34. Borderline Personality Disorder ( Adhd ) Introduction Borderline Personality Disorder was first listed in the DSM in 1980. It is classified as a cluster B personality disorder. Before then it was unsure if it was a disorder on its own, if it only coexisted with other disorders, or only mocked other disorders. Most people suffering from BPD have problems regulating emotions and thoughts, have impulsive and reckless behavior, and have unstable relations with others. High rates of comorbidity occur with this disorder including; depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and eating disorders. BPD affects about four percent of the community, but can be as high as twenty percent in many clinical psychiatric populations. It can be difficult to treat because it responds poorly to most conventional methods of treatment and because of how little we still know about it. There have been many great discoveries about BPD in only a few decades. There are still many questions to be answered about this disorder, but it has gone from a label attached to those who did not quite fit into other categories to a completely separate and somewhat understood mental illness. History First recorded accounts of symptoms associated with BPD can be found in medical literature from almost three thousand years ago. Adolph Stern would be the first to describe the symptoms, possible causes, and what he thought to be the best treatment. Stern referred to patients with these symptoms as the border line group.
