How Can Hair Be Used In Absorbing Oil Spills
How Can Hair Be Used In Absorbing Oil Spills The purpose of this experiment is to find out if hair is
useful in absorbing oil/ oil spills. The hypothesis is that various forms of hair will absorb and hold
different amounts of oil. It is known that the property of hair has a major connection to how much it
will hold. An oil spill the releasing of liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the surrounding area or
environment. Most likely to occur in marine areas or marine area with a lot of human activity. Some
may also happen on land or into the ocean. All of which are bad for the environment. Especially for
wildlife. Spilled oil can harm living things because of its chemical constituents are poisonous. This
can affect organisms both from internal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hair is one of the defining characteristics of mammals. The human body, apart from areas of glabrous
skin, is covered in follicles which produce thick terminal and fine villus hair. Most common interest in
hair is focused on hair growth, hair types and hair care, but hair is also an important biomaterial
primarily composed of protein, notably keratin. ( Human Hair: Facts Information. Disabled World.
Web. 12 Nov. 2015) Hair is adsorbent rather than absorbent, meaning oil clings to the many tiny scales
on each strand of hair. Each follicle or strand of hair has an enormous amount of surface area. It s not
soaking up the oil, it s not blowing up like a sponge, the oil is actually coating the outside. And since
each strand, separately has a lot of surface area, each follicle will be holding a somewhat significant
large amount of oil. ( How Can Human Hair Mop up the Oil Spill? BBC News. BBC, 11 May 2010.

oil absorbed by the hair will be different for each

Howl The Loud Mournful Cry Of The Beat Generation Poem...
The very title is quite explicit: howl, the loud, mournful cry of the wild beast. Published in (1956) by
Allen Ginsberg (1926 1997), this poem might certainly be one of the best known examples of the Beat
Generation literature. Not only does it express all the symptomatic behaviours of this counter culture
movement, but also it gives us a fascinating insight into the various Beat Generation s artists minds
and experiences at least, as reported by Allen Ginsberg. How does the author manage to translate the
feeling of otherness and anxious protestations of an entire generation of artists ? We will first analyse
the form of expression and identity of the individual described in the poem before focusing on the use
of non conforming behaviour ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The true message of the poem is complex, and does let the reader perplex on whether Ginsberg was
trying to incense or deplore these individual s state. But is it truly such a dark, depressing work of art ?
The Hippie movement that the Beat Generation inspired was after all a movement of peace and hope.
Ginsberg does admit that he and Salomon share the same invisible humor (Part III, l.9) , and the words
and expression used in the poem might aim to exaggerate the absurdity of a situation, not only to
highlight the contrast between them and the rest of the world, but also to make the reader laugh and
the audience did laugh during Ginsberg s first reading. But perhaps the irony is even deeper than that,
and Ginsberg jokes not at the expense of their own absurd behaviour, but on the mainstream people s
ignorance on what normality should

Interpreting The Clansm A Historical Romance Of The Ku...
Interpreting The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan and the Kloran
Thomas Dixon Jr. wrote The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan (or simply The
Clansman) which was based largely on his background in religion. He was a Southern Baptist
minister. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United
States. It is the world s largest Baptist denomination and the largest Protestant body in the United
States.
The Ku Klux Klan is fundamentally a white supremacist group that believes the Caucasian race is
inherently above all others in the eyes of God. They are well organized, to the point that they use the
Kloran as a sort of guideline for their rituals and practices. As a primary source of knowledge, the
Kloran Both socially and politically, the Ku Klux Klan has inspired racism and civic divide in the
United states. The Kloran was even copyrighted in 1917 (Jackson, 6). The Clansman works to justify
this divide by claiming white racial superiority. Since The Clansman there has been historical
evidence of the Klan s influence on politics and society.
Through propaganda and editorialized works of hate like both The Clansman and the Kloran, violence
is provoked through justification of religion. The Ku Klux Klan has operated based on numerous
agendas, all of which are based on racial tension. Most currently, The Ku Klux Klan (or simply KKK )

The War I Was A War
1914 through 1918, was the time period for this war. There are a lot of people who don t really know
exactly what started World War I, but there was a lot of events that took place that led into a general
war. The war basically started off as being a military conflict that included a lot of other countries, for
example, many countries of Europe and some other nations throughout the world. Before World War I
was named, it was called Great War, and it was also called World
War. The war kind of started out as having a disagreement between two coalitions of European
countries. It also started with a murder that happened in Balkan city of Sarajevo, actually it was an
assassination. Austria Hungary (Heir to the throne) and his wife were murdered and after that incident,
within five weeks, the war kicked off. Nobody wanted the U.S. to even get involved, not even the
president who at that time was Woodrow Wilson, and he definitely wanted to stay out of the messing
that was going on. Everything was good until around the year 1917, the U.S. shipping from the
german submarine was attacked and Mexico was encouraged to invade U.S. and attack. The Allied
Powers included the countries as follows: United Kingdom, France,
Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, and the Russian Empire. The Central Powers included: Germany and
Austria Hungary. There was a few nations didn t join the actual fighting. Around 1918, the war was
finally starting to end and Central Powers were defeated. The European powers

Essay on Victorian Era Ideologies
The Victorian era which lasted during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, established the
foundations of many social, cultural and moral ideologies in which many are present to this day.
Everywhere you look you can almost always see something Victorian inspired from floral patterned
curtains to elegantly hand crafted candlesticks. When visualizing The Victorian Era lavish balls, lace
covered dresses, tea parties and fancy lifestyles come to mind. However, the Victorian era is much
more than this. Victorians were judgmental, proud and often selfish people, as their biggest goal in life
was usually to make and/or keep a name for themselves which meant marrying their daughters off to
rich, aristocrats to preventing their family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film expresses themes of romance, reputation and class. The Bennet family is middle upper class
they live in a large, lavish country house. The Bingley s live in a vast manor with very expensive
looking furnishings. They have many servants and the house is very clean unlike the Bennet s which is
cluttered and crowded with loose belongings. When Elizabeth goes to visit her sister, Jane, at the
Bingley s manor she arrives in muddy skirts due to walking in the rain. However, she appears callous
to the fact that Caroline Bingley is appalled by her un ladylike attire, stating to Darcy She looked
positively medieval . Elizabeth is a bold, proud and spirited young woman who believes in marrying
for love rather than reputation or social climbing. Elizabeth s pride causes her to misjudge Mr Darcy
based on his unsocial attitude while Darcy s prejudice towards Elizabeth s poor social standing blinds
him from her virtues. Despite their mutual dislike at first, Darcy and Elizabeth fall in love; implying
that Austen views love as something independent of social forces, something two individuals can
capture if they escape the vortex of hierarchical society. Austen also voices a more realistic even
cynical view on love when Elizabeth s friend Charlotte marries Mr Collins, the pompous but wealthy
clergyman which demonstrates the heart does

The Importance Of Power In The Middle Ages
From the origins of civilization, people looked for a high power for guidance and direction. Beginning
with the Sumerians, the kings and their nobility looked to their polytheistic religious beliefs for
direction through cosmic and terrestrial signals. Priests came into play, helping those who needed help
in their walk with their faith. The Pope was considered God on Earth and government officials looked
to him to answers numerous times during battles and wars. Religion became a companion to power in
the middle ages, but the nature of authority slightly changed, relying more on religion, as we entered
into the modern period. Beginning in the ancient period, people had a say in how the government ran
and religion was a major occurrence in everyday life. The ancient Egyptians did everything revolved

In India, the Jan Lokpal Bill (Hindi: जन लोकपाल विधेयक) (also referred to as the citizens ombudsman
bill) is a proposed anti corruption law designed to effectively deter corruption, redress grievances and
protect whistleblowers. The law would create an ombudsman called the Jan Lokpal; this would be an
independent body similar to the Election Commission of India with the power to prosecute politicians
and bureaucrats without prior government permission.[1]
The bill was collaboratively drafted by Shanti Bhushan, retired Indian Police Service officer Kiran ...

Every month on its website, the Lokayukta will publish a list of cases dealt with, brief details of each,
their outcome and any action taken or proposed. It will also publish lists of all cases received by the
Lokayukta during the previous month, cases dealt with and those which are pending. Investigations of
each case must be completed in one year. Any resulting trials should be concluded in the following
year, giving a total maximum process time of two years. Losses caused to the government by a corrupt
individual will be recovered at the time of conviction. Government officework required by a citizen
that is not completed within a prescribed time period will result in Lokpal imposing financial penalties
on those responsible, which will then be given as compensation to the complainant. Complaints
against any officer of Lokpal will be investigated and completed within a month and, if found to be
substantive, will result in the officer being dismissed within two months. The existing anti corruption
agencies (CVC, departmental vigilance and the anti corruption branch of the CBI) will be merged into
Lokpal which will have complete power and authority to independently investigate and prosecute any
officer, judge or politician. Whistleblowers who alert the agency to potential corruption cases will also
be provided with protection by it.

Leon Cooper The Thin Red Line
The Film to be shown for Future Generations If Leon Cooper were to watch the film The Thin Red
Line, he might actually be moved to tears at how closely accurate the war was portrayed. The film
shows perfectly the destruction of the islands that once were inhabited by peaceful locals into a place
that is unrecognizable. Not only that, it flawlessly demonstrated the breakdown of soldiers and how
they felt towards the war. Leon Cooper would relate mostly to two of the characters in how they view
the war and the way they handled their situations. There were characters that Cooper hated also due to
their motives and how they did not cared about the lives of the soldiers. This would have angered
Cooper at how selfish the character was and not understanding ... Show more content on

He probably couldn t stand this character seeing how he is the epitome of everything Cooper is
fighting against. Tall was acting as the evils in the war, besides the enemies. Cooper would have
thought how Tall symbolizes how the US government is. He does not care for the people and soldiers
but only for the glory of beating the enemies not caring about the loss. He haphazardly gave orders to
send men to their deaths without carefully analyzing the seriousness of the predicament that they are
in; only there to get the results. This was similar to how the U.S just sent men to battle to multiple
islands without much preparation and caused many unnecessary deaths and miscalculations. They
were so rushed for victory that many soldiers died in the war. The US and Tall could have handled the
situation with more planning. Something that he could also compare is the fact that most of the time
the two were more acting behind the scenes and were not actively in the battle. While Tall was safely
at the bottom of the hill away from the bunkers, he was furious when Staros would not send his men
uphill to battle when it was clearly disadvantage on their side. Similarly the U.S. just sent out more
and more troops to battle while the officials are safe back in the U.S. Lastly the way that he handled

a. Staphylococcus aureus is a major cause of septic arthritis and orthopedic infection, in particular
those developing on prosthetic joints after arthroplasty. Joint infections can cause prolonged disability
and increased health care cost, due to prolonged antibiotic treatments, multiple surgeries, and in some
cases joint fusion. If there is rejection of treatment, these infections can cause significant morbidity,
including loss of limbs, systemic infection, and even death.
b. Biofilms are surface attached bacterial agglomerations that frequently develop on indwelling
medical devices.
c. The matrix that connects cells in a biofilm consists of a variety of chemically different
macromolecules, such as polymeric proteins, teichoic acids, extracellular DNA and polysaccharides.
d. The pronounced recalcitrance of S. aureus joint infections to antibiotic treatment is due to
exceptionally strong bacterial aggregation and biofilm formation, which renders even high
concentrations of antibiotics given to patients ineffective.
METHODS, RESULTS, AND CONCLUSIONS
4. How was the research conducted and with what materials and methods (experimentally or
otherwise), and why were these methods used?
a. The research team started by draining human synovial fluid (SF) from the joint during total knee
arthroplasty in the operating room and collected this with permission of the Thomas Jefferson

Significance of Fog in Long Day s Journey into Night...
Long Days Journey: The Significance of Fog (8)
A Long Day s Journey Into Night, by Eugene O Neill, is a deeply autobiographical play. His life was
rampant with confusion and addictions in his family. Each character in this play has a profound
resemblance, and draws parallels and connections with a member of his own family. The long journey
that the title of the play refers to is a journey into his past. Fog is a recurring metaphor in the play; it is
a physical presence even before it becomes a crucial symbol of the family s impenetrable confusion. It
is referred to in the text as well as stage directions in this play. It sets the mood for the play in all its
somber hues.
He uses the fog outside the house as an atmospheric element that ... Show more content on

There s no fog in the harbor. I m sure the spell of it we ve had is over (O Neill 736). The introductory
image establishes the fog as both the intermediary and a symbol of Mary s addiction. The fog is easily
identifiable as Mary s morphine high, representative of her cloudy mental state. Mary sinks back into
her addiction as the night falls and slowly regresses further away from reality and her family. The fog
signifies the state of mind that she is in. Fog has a dense and opaque quality that creates low visibility
and blocks out the sun. The fog described in the stage directions is ...as a white curtain drawn down
outside the windows (O Neill 773).
Mary tells Cathleen how she loves the fog, which can be interpreted as her love for the morphine that
removes her from any type of coherence. Mary was on a path to recovery and now has slowly lapsed
into her state of addiction once again. She likes this state because It hides you from the world and the
world from you. No one can find or touch you any more (O Neill 773). For Mary, this fog is
representative as an alternative or refuge from reality. Her relapse into addition causes clouds her
judgment and impairs her sight. She can hide herself in the fog so that her family can be oblivious to
her addiction.
Mary, however, is not alone among the fog people the three men also have their reasons for
withdrawing into night (Brustein 1021). Each of these men is haunted by his individual past and this

That Summer And The Crown Analysis
Someone once said, Your capability is admirable beyond words, so do not be afraid to show it . In the
books That Summer and The Crown this theme is demonstrated by the protagonist numerous times.
Without question, Haven from That Summer may be lonely, but Eadlyn from The Crown is capable
which is far more admirable.
Without a doubt, a tremendously capable character in the book The Crown by Kiera Cass would be
Eadlyn Schreave. To be capable is to be able to do the task at hand. One example that Eadlyn is
capable is how she runs an entire kingdom so her dad can stay with her mother because her mom was
sick. Running a huge kingdom at 18 years of age is a huge responsibility and Eadlyn was able to do it
by enlisting her closest staff to come on a team to assist her. Another example that Eadlyn is capable is
how she stopped a massive war from happening, due to her brother marrying the Queen of France and
giving up his royal status. Eadlyn had to go against an entire congress of old men that wanted to start
sending an army to France. It proved Eadlyn was capable of doing anything a man could do, and that
she did not need to find a husband to rule over Illéa. In closing, Eadlyn Schreave from the book The
Crown by Kiera Cass, is an extremely capable young lady.
Without question, Haven from the book That Summer By Sarah Dessen is a lonely character. Lonely
means that a person is closed off and isolated from other people. One example that Haven is lonely is
that her

Kant s Ethical Theory Of Ethics
According to MacKinnon Fiala (2015), Kant s ethical theory is a deontological theory. A deontology
theory is based on duties, obligations, and rights (p. 111). The focus of this essay is how Kant uses the
Categorical Imperative to explain the nature of ethics.
Immanuel Kant s basic moral principle the Categorical Imperative states, I should never act except in
such a way that I can also will that my maxim should become a universal law (Giambusso, 2016, para.
2). His theory does not focus on the consequences of actions as the consequences have no part in
deontological ethics, but the imperative that a person must do what is morally right without exception.
One can use the Categorical Imperative as a formula to test if an action is morally right or wrong, and
if done correctly the result will be the same for everyone. So, no one has to tell you what is right or
wrong because when you use the formula correctly you can see for yourself what the correct ethical
action is no matter the situation. Kant s example to explain the idea is lying to get out of a problematic
situation. If one can substitute a certain situation for a rule of action (the maxim), and then can make
this rule of action the universal rule, the rule for everyone to follow and the rule does not lead to a
contradiction, then and only then is the action morally right. For example: The situation: If I lie, I can
get out of this problematic situation. The maxim (the rule of action): It is okay to lie to get

Generic Strategy For Classifying A Text Document
.1 Generic Strategy for Classifying a Text Document The main steps involved are i) document pre
processing, ii) feature extraction / selection iii) model selection iv) Training and testing the classifier.
Information pre preparing lessens the measure of the information content records essentially. It
includes exercises like sentence limit determination [2], characteristic dialect particular stop word
disposal [1] [2] [3] and stemming [2] [4]. Stop words are practical words which happen as often as
possible in the dialect of the content (for instance, „a‟, ‟the‟, ‟an‟, ‟of‟ and so forth in English
dialect), so they are not helpful for order. Stemming is the activity of decreasing words to their root or
base structure. For English dialect, the Porter‟s stemmer is a prominent calculation [4] [12], which is
an addition stripping arrangement of orderly strides for stemming an English word, decreasing the
vocabulary of the preparation content by around 33% of its unique size [4]. For instance, utilizing the
Porter‟s stemmer, the English word speculations would in this manner be stemmed as speculations →
speculation → sum up → general → gener . In situations where the source records are site pages,
extra pre handling is required to evacuate/alter HTML and other script labels [13]. Highlight

A concept identical to taking the Stranger s foul ball and turning it fair unjustly. The Woman s
experience is similar to Patricia Williams experience in her essay The Death of the Profane: The
Rhetoric of Race and Rights . Williams describes her encounter with discrimination from a Stranger as
being ... an outward manifestation of his never having to let someone like me into the realm of his
reality (Williams 424). Both The Woman and Williams are aware of the attempts made by the
Strangers to shun them from living and prospering equally among one another. However, both of these
women were not discouraged by their treatment and decided to fight. While The Woman s attempt
failed due to her trust in an agency ran by Strangers, so did Williams. In Williams second retelling of
her experience, she wrote an essay. An essay being written, for a symposium on Excluded Voices
sponsored by a law review (Williams 425). With the credibility of a law firm, there is the assumption
that there is no need for constant political correctness compared to the average newspaper. However,
time and time again, the editors took information out of her essay, such as her race and location of the
incident, because they wanted to follow set guidelines, and feared persecution and accountability
(425). However, this did not stop Williams, as seen in her third retelling of her experience. She goes
on to tell the world her story by speech. At this point, there is no one to censor her words, because it is
her alone on the stage to hit a homerun. However, she notices the effects of her decision. Many
questioned her experience; leaving her to wonder, What makes my experience the real black one

level, it brings up the question of what is true. Both The

Essay on Dangers of the War on Terrorism
Dangers of the War on Terrorism
The President of the United State has used the phrases War on Poverty , War on Drugs , War on
Illiteracy , and the War on Hunger, when describing the problems Americans are facing. The term war
is used metaphorically to signify our willingness to devote vast resources, and immense amounts of
time to a specified problem. No one seems to have a problem with these phrases as they do not signify
our determination to die for the cause.
The Civil War, World War II, and even the Vietnam War or Conflict designates our determination to
give the lives of soldiers and spill the blood of the enemy to maintain our freedom. These real wars are

It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped, and defeated. Even
this definition expands when the President continues to include every nation in every region, is either
with us or against us. From this day forward, any nation that continue to harbor or support terrorism
will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime. The president also defines our participation
in the war by committing every resource at out command every means of diplomacy, every tool of
intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary
weapon of war to the disruption and to the defeat of the global terror network. The Presidents speech
drew several ovations and was enthusiastically received, but what does it really mean.
The portion of the War visible to U.S. citizens and the world has moved from the rural hills of
Afghanistan to portions of Pakistan, and Iraq. The world now seems posed to see who will be
identified as the next terror target. Korea, Iran, Syria, and Pakistan all have been suggested. Even if we
systematically work our way through the more obvious targets, committing our efforts in each
location, it won t stop there. Every country that

Evaluation Of A Nurse For My Clinical Essay
This week, I had the opportunity to be in the OR department for my clinical. I spent a whole day
observing the operation processes and the procedure itself, at the same time, I was able to get the
patient to the post operative care before they are discharged or sent to another floor for further
observation. I had an opportunity to observe four procedures. When I first arrived I was fortunate
enough to meet with a nurse who let me in the OR, who happened to be the preoperative nurse that I
will work with. After changing, we got a list of 2 patients. The first thing the nurse did was to explain
to me that we had to look for basic information such as allergies, lab results, present history and
physical for the patient. If there is no previous history within the last month or weeks, then we need to
remind the doctor to write a new one. Once we met with the patients, we started by taking vital signs,
asking their identity, and ask them to explain why they are there and what procedure they are there for.
I remember my nurse asking the patients about whether or not they are in the menopausal stages or if
there is a chance of them being pregnant. At the same time, my nurse gave antibacterial wipes for the
patients to wipe themselves in specific areas and change into the hospital gowns. My nurse then
started the IV with fluid and antibiotics while we discuss the medical history of the patient from the

Star History
The life cycle of a star is dependent on its mass. The larger the mass, the quicker it will die out,
whereas stars which are no more than half the size of our Sun can live up to hundreds of billion years.
However no matter how large the star is, they all begin their lives in a nursery known as a molecular
cloud.
A molecular cloud is a giant condensation of dust and molecular gas. They are regions of relatively
dense interstellar gas and dust with hydrogen molecules as well as carbon and silicate materials
forming the primary constituents. Helium and small amounts of heavier elements are also found
within the cloud. Molecular clouds are very cold and dark regions with typical temperatures of
between 10 and 50 Kelvin. The mass of a typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of fuel and the rate at which nuclear fusion occurs depends on the mass of the star. The
mass of a star is the determining factor of how long it lives. A red dwarf star is a star about half the
size of our Sun. Due to its extremely low fusion rate, it is estimated that they could last for 10 trillion
years. A medium sized star like our Sun spends its main sequence stage up to 10 billion years.
Stars like our Sun, which are no more than 1.44 solar masses, will undergo fusion of hydrogen into
helium. Over its life time the star slowly uses its supply of hydrogen by fusing it into helium. These
reactions require high temperatures. Eventually the star will completely fuse hydrogen into helium in
its core leaving inadequate amounts of thermal pressure to balance gravity. This will cause the centre
of the star to contract to compensate for the heat energy lost.
As this slow contraction continues, the core temperature, density, and pressure of the star continues to
increase. As the star shrinks it becomes so dense that it starts to compress helium. This results in the
star to swell due to the hot core and leaving a relatively cool surface. Eventually the outer layers of the
star expand outwards, increasing the size of the star. As the layers continue to expand, the surface
temperature continues to cool, forming a relatively large star called a red giant.
In about 5 billion years, the Sun will become a red giant. A red giant is a star which has completely

Proactive And Begin With The End Of Mind By Stephen R....
Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind
Stephen R. Covey writes that there is not a greater investment to grow in new habits, and he invites his
readers to study these habits and be patient with ourselves. I like that he writes, be patient with
ourselves, because we are people that are not perfect and we cannot achieve that perfection in
ourselves. The first two habits are, Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind. Both of these habits
are about moving from independence to interdependence that focus mainly on our choices or
mastering your thoughts. I like Covey s statement, I am responsible for me, and I can choose.
Proactive
When I first thought of proactive, it meant to recall all of the scenarios that may come up so that I may
be ready. Actually, this is how Covey uses his right brain, in imaging all the things that can go wrong
and dreaming up ways to help. This is natural for me to meditate this way. However, this kind of
proactive can create worry and keep me up late over visualizing. I prefer praying and sitting with
Jesus, because it is impossible to come up with everything alone in my own head and this causes too
much work. I believe in working with a team and what comes to each of us in a situation is valuable
and ideas that could only come from someone who ruminates different that I do. Overly proactive
people sometimes can be manipulative, because they have already worked through everything in their
head and if they are open to new

I ve always been interested in the field of medicine. When I was being born, I almost died, being
saved only by the ingenuity of a Nurse Day for whom my middle name is dedicated to. Above all else,
I want to have an impact on the quality of life for others, and I think the University of Pennsylvania is
one of, if not the, best ways to do that. Its bioengineering department is consistently ranked to be the
most rigorous in the field, and I can handle rigor. Given that the vast majority of bioengineering
undergraduates at UPenn take part in independent research and that many go on to publish their
findings, the tools to excel at UPenn are readily available, and I plan to excel. I find this, more than
anything else, to be why I find UPenn to be so appealing. The ability for and even the encouragement
of undergraduate students to follow their own path, to design their own trials, and to even publish their
results is very captivating to me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Almost immediately, I was thrust into a world of moral frameworks, weighing mechanisms, and

Ethcentrism In Rabbit-Proof Fence
The film Rabbit Proof Fence illustrates on the topics of ethnocentrism, and also, the significance of
perceiving the immense breadth of the Jigalong clan s customary biological learning to depict the
wrongs that jumped out at this gathering starting in the 1930 s. As the half rank youngsters were taken
from their homes with a specific end goal to be educated like English kids, the men responsible for
said operation were endeavoring to strip away the nobility, as well as the conventions and character of
a culture that was viewed as unthinkable on the grounds that the kids were not the same as supposed
humanized society. A case of the ethnocentrism in the film would be when Mr. Neville, Chief
Protector of Aborigines states, Ensured against themselves. On the off chance that they would just
comprehend what we are endeavoring to improve the situation them. Thinking that these children
require sparing on the grounds that the children live as per an arrangement of conventions and ways
that originate from their own history is identified with what is known as the White Man s Burden,
since this is viewed as an adequate purpose behind interceding in the lives of others, when this is
extremely not satisfactory.
Another way that the motion picture can pass on the distinctions in culture is through the Jigalong s
learning of nature and surroundings all through the film. At a young age, the kids are instructed how to
rummage and chase for their own particular sustenance, which appears differently in relation to the
supper courses of action in the Moore River Native Settlement. Additionally, both the tracker, who is
chasing down Molly and her family can utilize the land for something other than nourishment
however a guide. Understanding those sorts of pieces of information gives the group of onlookers an
approach to see that the Jigalong clan s energy about nature in their social esteems instead of seeing
the emotional contrast and uncalled for nature of living in the Settlement.
As we started the semester understanding the genuine significance of culture, we create upon the ideas
of Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism where the video Rabbit Proof Fence becomes possibly the

Hammerhead Sharks
Marine Science/ Per. 1
Sharks are one of the most feared sea animals. They live in oceans across the world but are most
common in tropical waters. There are over three hundred fifty species of sharks. They can be broadly
categorized into the following four groups: Squalomorphii, Squatinomorphii, Batoidea, and
Galeomorphii. The shark family Sphyrnidae that includes the Hammerheads are part of the
Galeomorphic classification. They are probably the most easily recognizable of all the sharks. The

Sharks generally have a small brain in comparison to their body weight.
Among sharks hammerheads have a relatively large brain body weight ratio.
Sharks differ form most other fish in several ways. Sharks have a boneless skeleton made of cartilage
that is a tough elastic substance. Most sharks have a rounded body shaped like a torpedo. This shape
helps them swim efficiently.
Hammerheads are especially good swimmers because of the hydrodynamic function of their head.
All sharks are carnivorous. Most eat live fish, including other sharks.
Most sharks eat their prey whole, or tear off large chunks of flesh at a time.
They also eat dying animals. Hammerheads have definite food preferences. Their elongated head may
help them locate the prey they prefer. The Great Hammerhead likes to eat stingrays. This was
observed when the stomach contents of a hammerhead were examined and stingray spines were found.
Stingrays are usually difficult to detect because they are partially buried in the sediment. Yet, the
hammerhead is capable of finding them because they can swim close to the bottom swinging their
heads in a wide arc like a metal detector.
Sharks reproduce internally. Unlike most fish sharks eggs are fertilized internally. The male shark has
two organs called claspers which release sperm into the female where it fertilizes the egg. In many
sharks the

When Post Traumatic Stress Disorder first hits, veterans deal with numerous side effects, such as
anger, anxiety, fatigue or depression. PTSD has always been an extremely complex topic to

Dogs Have Strong Abilities Communicate With Other Species
Dogs have shown to have strong abilities to communicate with other species, especially humans. Ever
since dogs were domesticated close to 15,00 years ago, they have had a strong ability to communicate
and cooperate with people (Jensen et al., 2016). They re able to communicate with and understand
many human signs and words. They use things like gaze following and an ability to observe and then
act within accordance to their owner s attention (Jensen et al., 2016). Additionally, dogs have an even
more greater understanding of the human language. They use the various sounds they make, such as
barking, to communicate with humans. Through their social capabilities, dogs are able to form tight
bonds with their owners, facilitated by the mutual increase in levels of oxytocin, a neuropeptide
related to social bonding (Jensen et al., 2016). When faced with difficult problems, dogs also show
social interactions when facing problems, turning to a human for help rather than solving a problem on
their own. Through social interaction like these, dogs prove themselves to be close allies to the human
race. In order to understand these behaviors, researchers took a closer look at the genetics of both dogs
and humans. They aimed to perform a genetic analysis of behavior, but in order to perform this type of
testing, reliable and comprehensive phenotyping methods (Jensen et al., 2016). Trained observers test
the dogs and scores them on behaviors such as fear and sociality. The results

The Crossing Cormac Mccarthy Analysis
In the passage from Cormac McCarthy s novel, The Crossing, the narrator describes the main
character s burial of a wolf that was recently killed. It us unclear if he had killed the wolf or had found
her dead, but the experience has a profound effect on the character either way. McCarthy uses several
literary techniques to accurately convey the impact on the protagonist, including detailed diction that
creates powerful visuals in the mind of the reader. Along with this usage of imagery, the author
includes religious and spiritual references to emphasize the deep sadness and wonder felt by the main
character during this passage. From the very beginning of the passage, McCarthy s precise vocabulary
expresses not only the visual experiences, but also what he hears and feels in those moments. The
narrator describes the scenery and the grassy swales beneath tall escarpments . He also goes into
another sense of the protagonist by telling us of the yapping of the coyotes. We can feel the coldness
as he shivers waiting for dawn, and the fire that he built dies down to a few low flames seething over

asleep, palms up...like some dozing penitent . When he imagines the wolf s body, he sees her running

The City Of New York City
The aroma of food vendors, taxi cabs, and flowers molest the face of a person as they walk the streets
of New York City. The rush of a city can often be overwhelming. Even though that may be true, 80.7
percent of the U.S. population lived in urban areas as of the 2010 Census. Living in New York City is
better than living in a Haysi. Living in a city offers many more conveniences, opportunities, and more
diversity. Living in a city offers many amenities and service that might very well not be available in a
rural area. New York City for example, has terrible traffic. A typical commute of five miles can take
between seven minutes and two hours in a car. One major advantage to a city, NYC in particular, is
their flawless public transportation system. Taking the subway, the commute can be shortened to an
average time of ten to fifteen minutes. Take out service is great as well. Imagine it is two o clock AM,
if someone were to wake up hungry, they could call their local takeout restaurant and more than likely,
they would be open. Cities have so many grocers as well. Not only do cities have more conveniences,
but they also offer more opportunity. 8.406 million Americans call New York City their home. Due to
the large population, there is a large diversity. Many different cultures often bring in new opportunity
for work that might not have been thought of in the past. Living in a large city such as NYC also
means a larger, broader job market. More than likely,

Being a role model for my young daughter is very important to me. Receiving a higher education is
not only important to me, but also to my daughter. A single mother is usually categorized in a negative
light. When one says she s a single mother the first initial thoughts of many are the stereotyping that
the single mother is on welfare, Medicare, and other government aids. Although the article Great
Expectations: Single Mothers in Higher Education, by Diana L.Haleman is about the minority group
of single mothers that live in poverty, I have some of the same issues that these women in the study
had; mother, employee, and a college student. Their educational experiences often provide an
opportunity for disrupting negative expectations directed toward them and also symbolize for the
women the possibility of realizing the hopes and dreams they hold for themselves and their children,
says Haleman, I couldn t agree more with that statement. Being a single mother, a hard worker, and a
college student is not an easy task, but having my daughter grow up watching all my willpower on

Fire Service Mentality
Intro For many years, the fire service has been behind the times in scientific advancements in regards
to fire tactics, fire behavior, and fire equipment. Through the investigation and experiments of the
National Institute of Standards and Technology over the last few years, the fire service has seen
enormous strides in research that has changed the mentality of the fire service for the better in my
opinion. This paper will cover a little background of the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST), along with how NIST has changed the fire service for the better, and is NIST
good for the fire service as a whole. NIST a Back Ground The need for a Federal Bureau of standards
was talked about for almost 20 years before legislation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the biggest advancement in the last few years through the help and research of NIST has been
that of flow paths and fire. NIST has been able to show the fire service that when there is a fire and
say a window is knocked out or a door open and not controlled that the flow of natural ventilation
would help the fire grow. This growth then fueled the fire to a point that would catch firefighters off
guard maybe even kill them. Such fires as the one in Chicago that killed a fire captain that died from
the injuries that he sustained while advancing a hose line into a two story, single family structure
(Weinschenk, Overholt, Madrzykowski, 2014). Since NIST determined this to be a real threat to
firefighters, departments have been taking genuine efforts to control the flow of air to the best of their
ability at structure fires. I think that this new tactic of air control has been a real game changer for fire
departments all around the

The Raft Short Story
Thea and her friends worked for a week to prepare their raft for the THEME RIVER RAFT RACE.
Saturday, the day of the race, dawned gray and cloudy. Nevertheless, the girls chattered happily as
they pushed their raft into the water. After hopping aboard, they anxiously awaited the starting gun.
And then they were off. Unfortunately, they ran into some obstacles along the way. As Thea stared out
into the ocean, massive waves roared and crashed onto the shore like monsters. When Thea and her
friends entered the raft, fear crept up her spine, controlling over her. Her face was as red as a cherry! I
have to do this! I have to do this! Thea exclaimed as she fought the rough waves. Thea and her friends
fought harder and harder, until the enormous

The Glass Menagerie And Death Of A Salesman Analysis
The Glass Menagerie was a well written novel that I enjoyed because of all the different aspects of the
characters lives and views of things. For example Laura an older single mother who wants the best for
her two grown children Laura who is 23 years old and Tom who is the older brother. There father Mr.
Wingfield abandoned them for long distance traveling and never came back so Laura is taking care of
them on her own. Her daughter Laura is shy and quiet girl who has a crippled leg and cannot work
because of it and her oldest son Tom is just like his father and wants to get out of Chicago and travel
but he works for a factory to provide for his family. So that is the situation in the novel. The novel had
little hints now and then about what was going to happen like from the characters talking, the subtitles,
and the dramatic music that played throughout the play, so it was really easy to understand. The reason
I chose this novel was because it was about a play and because it was one of the shortest books. The
Glass Menagerie reminded me of another novel about a play called Death of a Salesman that I read
from my last book project just like this one in ninth grade. In a way both novels The Glass Menagerie
and Death of a Salesman are very similar because both families in the novels, the Wingfield family
and the Loman family have the same difficulties and situations like having no money, job difficulties,
stressful lives, running away from fears and worries, and husbands

No Kill Shelters
According to Sarah Knapton, humans love their dogs in the same way they do their children, and the
feeling is mutual. Everyone loves dogs, dogs can even be a person s best friend. With seeing dogs in a
crowed shelters and dogs getting euthanized is sad. The issue with regular animal shelters is they must
accept, or choose to accept, any and all companion animal s regardless health, temperament, or space
available, with no limitation. As no kill shelters accept animals on a voluntary or space available basis,
a no kill shelter does not euthanize animals who can be adopted or when the shelter is full, reserving
euthanasia for animals who are terminally ill or considered dangerous (Heinz). As proposed by Heinz
I have volunteered at both no kill shelters and traditional shelters. In my experience, the no kill
shelters tend to put down the traditional shelters for euthanizing animals. Likewise, the traditional
shelters have criticized no kill shelters. There are a lot of fights that break out between kill shelters and
no kill shelters. One even went as far as to say that, until all shelters can be no kill shelters, NO ...

Another lady who owns a shelter said that 2,000 dogs were pulled from rescues from her building,
2,000 other animals that would be in her freezer in the crematory. There are some pros about euthanize
because it can stop the animal from suffering, can allow for last goodbye on your terms, can save
thousands of dollars on medical bills. And some cons are, difficult option if you cannot pay, last resort
for population control, incredibly difficult to do with a beloved animal, costs money

The Fuller Invented Pieces Of Theatrical Lighting...
Loie Fuller invented pieces of theatrical lighting equipment. She created a unique art form by crafting
multi media spectacles out of fabric, motion and light. In Fuller s autobiography, she talks about how
the glass of the rose windows in the great cathedral had rays of sunlight that came on into the church
in different directions, and made it very colorful. I think this is a moment that inspired her. It was
something that caught her attention, and she just couldn t simply take her mind from it. This was
something that encouraged her to keep digging into the things lights and colors can do in dance. In one
of her videos, it shows her twirling her dress in many different ways while her dress is also changing
colors. This was very unexpected for me. It was different and it made me think about the things she
had to do to make this idea into a creation. I was also able to see how the lights reflecting in the
church inspired her because the color of her dress kept changing as she twirled so smoothly. It was
very settle and something you wouldn t usually notice right away like the lights in the church. In the
reading, she states, What is the dance? It is motion. What is motion? The expression of a sensation.
What is a sensation? The reaction in the human body produced by an impression or an idea perceived
by the mind. A sensation is the reverberation that the body receives when an impression strikes the
mind. (Fuller, 17). She is explaining the thought process that she goes

Essay on A Mexican Farmer Worker in USA
A Mexican Farmer Worker in USA
The first immigrant I interviewed will be referred to as Jess . Jess is from Guanajuato which is in
southern Mexico. Jess, his five brothers and sisters, and his parents were farmers. They grew corn as
their main crop. Jess s family lived in a three bedroom brick house in Mexico. Their house
surprisingly had water and electricity. He only made 100 pesos a day ($10.00 U.S.). According to Jess,
this was not enough money to get by on his own. He said that the average person in Mexico needs at
least 150 pesos per day to live on their own and someone raising a family needs much more than this.
This is why in 1985, at the age of 18, he came to Arizona to find a better job and to help his family. ...

Jess did not want to go to Tucson because he thought there would not be enough job openings there.
He also stated that Phoenix was the only city he had been to in the U.S. and that he wasn t sure about
moving anywhere else. He stayed in Phoenix and found a job at a golf course. He has worked at the
golf course for 17 years now. He started out as a grounds keeper making minimum wage and now he
makes $31,000 per year as an assistant superintendent. According to Transnational Villagers, the
median income (total household income) for Non Dominican Hispanics in 1999 was $26,982. Jess has
never been on welfare. He sends money back to his parents every month but he doesn t want to go
back to Mexico, though he says that he does miss his family and friends back in Mexico and he also
misses farming. When he was asked what he thought was the biggest difference between Phoenix and
Mexico, he said that he had come from a small town in Mexico and that Phoenix was such a big city
compared to his home town. Jess claims that he has not experienced any discrimination since he s
been in Phoenix. He says people have been good to him. Jess says that another difference between
Phoenix and Mexico is the cost of living. He says that It s (the cost of living) becoming very
expensive now...I would never be able to make it in Phoenix with only 150 pesos per day, I barely get
by working my two jobs now. When Jess finishes his 8 hour day at the golf course, he puts in an

Modernizing The World Can Be Detrimental
Modernizing the world can be detrimental to religious cooperation. With an increase in education of
the different options of religious directions, there are controversial means of interaction between them
as the different religious beliefs compete to be right or most beneficial to the human population. Some
religions, like Hinduism, typically tolerate other beliefs and desire to work with them to maintain
order and a civil living situation. Unlike Hinduism, Christianity appears to exert attributes that oppose
this mindset. They are in conflict with other religions even within the umbrella of Christianity
(Massimini Fave, 1991). The spectrum of Christian denominations are not even collaboratively
working together to achieve universal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is always a conflict between religious beliefs (Roccas, 2005). Irreligious people live according
to rituals, behaviors, and other values that align with their own personal ethic, while Religious
individuals abide by what is given them by their divine authority. These variations are easily
scientifically observable, but, the motives behind the beliefs require more insight and intuition to
deduce. According to Roccas (2005), values are the motives behind their actions. This includes factors
that influence one to act a certain way, understand situations, and give reasons for their behaviors. It is
a method to quench people s desires through meaningful and ethical means. The concept of good and
bad are founded on this idea of values (Roccas, 2005). These place a hierarchical order of significance
and morality in one s life. Values such as family security, forgiveness, and obedience take priority in
importance to those of religious lifestyles. Some of the values that are attributed to low importance in
the lives of religious individuals may include pleasure and an exciting life (Roccas, 2005). Consistent
with Roccas (2005) views, Schwartz relates values to preferences, categorization according to
significance in one s life, and guidance in a person s lifelong pursuits. Schwartz derived power,
achievement, hedonism, stimulation, self direction, universalism, benevolence, tradition, conformity,
and security that

Case Study Of Subway
Business Identification Summary: The above case study is about the success story of Subway. Subway
s type of ownership is franchise. Subway was founded in the year 1965 in state of Connecticut in the
United States of America by Fred DeLuca who 17 years old at the time and was looking to pay his
college fees by opening a sandwich shop. DeLuca s restaurant has since expanded and is, today, one of
the largest restaurant franchises in the world. DeLuca started by getting a loan of $1000 from a close
friend who encouraged him to open his own restaurant. In 1965, he started his first restaurant but the
result was underwhelming. Instead of closing his business down, he went on and opened a second
restaurant. Yet again, the result was underwhelming. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fred DeLuca borrowed $1,000 from friend Peter Buck to start Pete s Super Submarines in
Connecticut, and in the following year they formed a company called Doctor s Associates Inc. to
oversee operations of the restaurants as the franchise expanded. The name of the holding company is
coming from the fact that DeLuca was aspiring to become a doctor but instead opened a restaurant that
eventually became Subway. In the year 1968, the sandwich shop was renamed

Marriage And Divorce In Hosea s The Hebrew Scriptures
Hosea s use of the marriage metaphor in relation to the nature of YHWH and Israel s relationship was
ingenious in the sense that it gives us a special insight into the divine human relations. However it
raises some serious problems for those concerned with the texts that may be interpreted as excusing
violence against women. In the case of the Hebrew Scriptures, the image of the husband physically
retaliating against his wife is almost unavoidable, and his right to do so unquestionable, to the extent
that divine retribution is based on the notion that the deity has the right to punish the people. The first
task of the prophet is to capture the imagination of their audience, in order to persuade the gravity of
one s message to their listeners. Hosea convinced Israel of her urgent need to repent by using a
plethora of beautiful and poetic images to capture the nature of YHWH s affection and claims upon
Israel and to portray the depth of Israel s separation from YHWH. In the past, scholars have been
preoccupied with the historical questions that such an alleged marriage proposes (e.g. the laws
regarding marriage and divorce, the nature of Canaanite fertility cults and their saturation into Hebrew
religious practices, the fascinating account of Hosea and Gomer s apparent stormy marriage). It was
not until recently that scholars have begun to take note of the abnormal literary nature and ... Show

Congress passes the Reconstruction Act of 1867, which divided the South into districts and required
Southern states to approve the 14th Amendment to grant blacks citizenship, before rejoining the
Union. Later, congress gives African Americans the right to vote by ratifying the 15th Amendment.
The Reconstruction established the South s first state funded public school systems, created a just
taxation legislation, and passed laws against discrimination and economic development programs. The
approach of Congress was different than Johnson s plan, because they worked to improve the lives of
African Americans by passing laws in their favor, and expanding their rights. Congress did not care
what the South wanted, and expected the South to abide by their rules. On the other hand, Johnson
wanted to preserve the nation, and did not want to do anything to anger the South. Moreover, he was a
strong believer in states rights, and the idea that the federal government had no right to enforce
restrictive laws on the entire country. 12. What was the white response to Radical Reconstruction? In
response to Radical Reconstruction, whites resorted to violence. White supremacist organizations
targeted Republicans and African Americans. White supremacy spread through the south as
Reconstruction died out. 13. What event marked the end of Reconstruction? The Compromise of 1876
marked the end of Reconstruction. In this compromise, Rutherford B. Hayes agreed to accept
Democratic control over the entire South, in return for the presidency, and Democrats in Congress
agreed to his

The hypothesis is that various forms of hair will absorb and hold different amounts of oil. It is known that the property of hair has a major connection to how much it will hold. An oil spill the releasing of liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the surrounding area or environment. Most likely to occur in marine areas or marine area with a lot of human activity. Hair is one of the defining characteristics of mammals. The human body, apart from areas of glabrous skin, is covered in follicles which produce thick terminal and fine villus hair. Most common interest in hair is focused on hair growth, hair types and hair care, but hair is also an important biomaterial primarily composed of protein, notably keratin. ( Human Hair: Facts Information. Disabled World. Web. 12 Nov. 2015) Hair is adsorbent rather than absorbent, meaning oil clings to the many tiny scales on each strand of hair. Each follicle or strand of hair has an enormous amount of surface area. It s not soaking up the oil, it s not blowing up like a sponge, the oil is actually coating the outside. And since each strand, separately has a lot of surface area, each follicle will be holding a somewhat significant large amount of oil. ( How Can Human Hair Mop up the Oil Spill? BBC News. • 3. Howl The Loud Mournful Cry Of The Beat Generation Poem... The very title is quite explicit: howl, the loud, mournful cry of the wild beast. Published in (1956) by Allen Ginsberg (1926 1997), this poem might certainly be one of the best known examples of the Beat Generation literature. Not only does it express all the symptomatic behaviours of this counter culture movement, but also it gives us a fascinating insight into the various Beat Generation s artists minds and experiences at least, as reported by Allen Ginsberg. How does the author manage to translate the feeling of otherness and anxious protestations of an entire generation of artists ? We will first analyse the form of expression and identity of the individual described in the poem before focusing on the use of non conforming behaviour ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The true message of the poem is complex, and does let the reader perplex on whether Ginsberg was trying to incense or deplore these individual s state. But is it truly such a dark, depressing work of art ? The Hippie movement that the Beat Generation inspired was after all a movement of peace and hope. Ginsberg does admit that he and Salomon share the same invisible humor (Part III, l.9) , and the words and expression used in the poem might aim to exaggerate the absurdity of a situation, not only to highlight the contrast between them and the rest of the world, but also to make the reader laugh and the audience did laugh during Ginsberg s first reading. But perhaps the irony is even deeper than that, and Ginsberg jokes not at the expense of their own absurd behaviour, but on the mainstream people s ignorance on what normality should ... Interpreting The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan and the Kloran Thomas Dixon Jr. wrote The Clansman: A Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan (or simply The Clansman) which was based largely on his background in religion. He was a Southern Baptist minister. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United States. It is the world s largest Baptist denomination and the largest Protestant body in the United States. The Ku Klux Klan is fundamentally a white supremacist group that believes the Caucasian race is inherently above all others in the eyes of God. They are well organized, to the point that they use the Kloran as a sort of guideline for their rituals and practices. As a primary source of knowledge, the Kloran Both socially and politically, the Ku Klux Klan has inspired racism and civic divide in the United states. The Kloran was even copyrighted in 1917 (Jackson, 6). The Clansman works to justify this divide by claiming white racial superiority. Since The Clansman there has been historical evidence of the Klan s influence on politics and society. Through propaganda and editorialized works of hate like both The Clansman and the Kloran, violence is provoked through justification of religion. The Ku Klux Klan has operated based on numerous agendas, all of which are based on racial tension. There are a lot of people who don t really know exactly what started World War I, but there was a lot of events that took place that led into a general war. The war basically started off as being a military conflict that included a lot of other countries, for example, many countries of Europe and some other nations throughout the world. Before World War I was named, it was called Great War, and it was also called World War. The war kind of started out as having a disagreement between two coalitions of European countries. It also started with a murder that happened in Balkan city of Sarajevo, actually it was an assassination. Austria Hungary (Heir to the throne) and his wife were murdered and after that incident, within five weeks, the war kicked off. Nobody wanted the U.S. to even get involved, not even the president who at that time was Woodrow Wilson, and he definitely wanted to stay out of the messing that was going on. Everything was good until around the year 1917, the U.S. shipping from the german submarine was attacked and Mexico was encouraged to invade U.S. and attack. The Allied Powers included the countries as follows: United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, and the Russian Empire. The Central Powers included: Germany and Austria Hungary. There was a few nations didn t join the actual fighting. Around 1918, the war was finally starting to end and Central Powers were defeated. The European powers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Victorian Era Ideologies The Victorian era which lasted during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, established the foundations of many social, cultural and moral ideologies in which many are present to this day. Everywhere you look you can almost always see something Victorian inspired from floral patterned curtains to elegantly hand crafted candlesticks. When visualizing The Victorian Era lavish balls, lace covered dresses, tea parties and fancy lifestyles come to mind. However, the Victorian era is much more than this. Victorians were judgmental, proud and often selfish people, as their biggest goal in life was usually to make and/or keep a name for themselves which meant marrying their daughters off to rich, aristocrats to preventing their family ... They have many servants and the house is very clean unlike the Bennet s which is cluttered and crowded with loose belongings. When Elizabeth goes to visit her sister, Jane, at the Bingley s manor she arrives in muddy skirts due to walking in the rain. However, she appears callous to the fact that Caroline Bingley is appalled by her un ladylike attire, stating to Darcy She looked positively medieval . Elizabeth is a bold, proud and spirited young woman who believes in marrying for love rather than reputation or social climbing. Elizabeth s pride causes her to misjudge Mr Darcy based on his unsocial attitude while Darcy s prejudice towards Elizabeth s poor social standing blinds him from her virtues. Despite their mutual dislike at first, Darcy and Elizabeth fall in love; implying that Austen views love as something independent of social forces, something two individuals can capture if they escape the vortex of hierarchical society. Beginning with the Sumerians, the kings and their nobility looked to their polytheistic religious beliefs for direction through cosmic and terrestrial signals. Priests came into play, helping those who needed help in their walk with their faith. The Pope was considered God on Earth and government officials looked to him to answers numerous times during battles and wars. Religion became a companion to power in the middle ages, but the nature of authority slightly changed, relying more on religion, as we entered into the modern period. • 9. Leon Cooper The Thin Red Line The Film to be shown for Future Generations If Leon Cooper were to watch the film The Thin Red Line, he might actually be moved to tears at how closely accurate the war was portrayed. The film shows perfectly the destruction of the islands that once were inhabited by peaceful locals into a place that is unrecognizable. Not only that, it flawlessly demonstrated the breakdown of soldiers and how they felt towards the war. Leon Cooper would relate mostly to two of the characters in how they view the war and the way they handled their situations. He probably couldn t stand this character seeing how he is the epitome of everything Cooper is fighting against. Tall was acting as the evils in the war, besides the enemies. Cooper would have thought how Tall symbolizes how the US government is. He does not care for the people and soldiers but only for the glory of beating the enemies not caring about the loss. He haphazardly gave orders to send men to their deaths without carefully analyzing the seriousness of the predicament that they are in; only there to get the results. This was similar to how the U.S just sent men to battle to multiple islands without much preparation and caused many unnecessary deaths and miscalculations. They were so rushed for victory that many soldiers died in the war. The US and Tall could have handled the situation with more planning. Something that he could also compare is the fact that most of the time the two were more acting behind the scenes and were not actively in the battle. While Tall was safely at the bottom of the hill away from the bunkers, he was furious when Staros would not send his men uphill to battle when it was clearly disadvantage on their side. Similarly the U.S. just sent out more and more troops to battle while the officials are safe back in the U.S. Lastly the way that he handled with the fallen soldiers are ... • 11. Significance of Fog in Long Day s Journey into Night... Long Days Journey: The Significance of Fog (8) A Long Day s Journey Into Night, by Eugene O Neill, is a deeply autobiographical play. His life was rampant with confusion and addictions in his family. Each character in this play has a profound resemblance, and draws parallels and connections with a member of his own family. The long journey that the title of the play refers to is a journey into his past. Fog is a recurring metaphor in the play; it is a physical presence even before it becomes a crucial symbol of the family s impenetrable confusion. It is referred to in the text as well as stage directions in this play. It sets the mood for the play in all its somber hues. He uses the fog outside the house as an atmospheric element that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There s no fog in the harbor. I m sure the spell of it we ve had is over (O Neill 736). The introductory image establishes the fog as both the intermediary and a symbol of Mary s addiction. The fog is easily identifiable as Mary s morphine high, representative of her cloudy mental state. Mary sinks back into her addiction as the night falls and slowly regresses further away from reality and her family. The fog signifies the state of mind that she is in. Fog has a dense and opaque quality that creates low visibility and blocks out the sun. The fog described in the stage directions is ...as a white curtain drawn down outside the windows (O Neill 773). Mary tells Cathleen how she loves the fog, which can be interpreted as her love for the morphine that removes her from any type of coherence. Mary was on a path to recovery and now has slowly lapsed into her state of addiction once again. She likes this state because It hides you from the world and the world from you. No one can find or touch you any more (O Neill 773). For Mary, this fog is representative as an alternative or refuge from reality. Her relapse into addition causes clouds her judgment and impairs her sight. She can hide herself in the fog so that her family can be oblivious to her addiction. Mary, however, is not alone among the fog people the three men also have their reasons for withdrawing into night (Brustein 1021). Each of these men is haunted by his individual past and this ... • 12. That Summer And The Crown Analysis Someone once said, Your capability is admirable beyond words, so do not be afraid to show it . In the books That Summer and The Crown this theme is demonstrated by the protagonist numerous times. Without question, Haven from That Summer may be lonely, but Eadlyn from The Crown is capable which is far more admirable. Without a doubt, a tremendously capable character in the book The Crown by Kiera Cass would be Eadlyn Schreave. To be capable is to be able to do the task at hand. One example that Eadlyn is capable is how she runs an entire kingdom so her dad can stay with her mother because her mom was sick. Running a huge kingdom at 18 years of age is a huge responsibility and Eadlyn was able to do it by enlisting her closest staff to come on a team to assist her. Another example that Eadlyn is capable is how she stopped a massive war from happening, due to her brother marrying the Queen of France and giving up his royal status. Eadlyn had to go against an entire congress of old men that wanted to start sending an army to France. It proved Eadlyn was capable of doing anything a man could do, and that she did not need to find a husband to rule over Illéa. In closing, Eadlyn Schreave from the book The Crown by Kiera Cass, is an extremely capable young lady. Without question, Haven from the book That Summer By Sarah Dessen is a lonely character. Lonely means that a person is closed off and isolated from other people. One example that Haven is lonely is that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Kant s Ethical Theory Of Ethics According to MacKinnon Fiala (2015), Kant s ethical theory is a deontological theory. A deontology theory is based on duties, obligations, and rights (p. 111). The focus of this essay is how Kant uses the Categorical Imperative to explain the nature of ethics. Immanuel Kant s basic moral principle the Categorical Imperative states, I should never act except in such a way that I can also will that my maxim should become a universal law (Giambusso, 2016, para. 2). His theory does not focus on the consequences of actions as the consequences have no part in deontological ethics, but the imperative that a person must do what is morally right without exception. One can use the Categorical Imperative as a formula to test if an action is morally right or wrong, and if done correctly the result will be the same for everyone. So, no one has to tell you what is right or wrong because when you use the formula correctly you can see for yourself what the correct ethical action is no matter the situation. Kant s example to explain the idea is lying to get out of a problematic situation. If one can substitute a certain situation for a rule of action (the maxim), and then can make this rule of action the universal rule, the rule for everyone to follow and the rule does not lead to a contradiction, then and only then is the action morally right. For example: The situation: If I lie, I can get out of this problematic situation. The maxim (the rule of action): It is okay to lie to get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Generic Strategy For Classifying A Text Document .1 Generic Strategy for Classifying a Text Document The main steps involved are i) document pre processing, ii) feature extraction / selection iii) model selection iv) Training and testing the classifier. Information pre preparing lessens the measure of the information content records essentially. Many would pat her on the head and spoke to her slowly, because they believed her wheelchair made her intellectually inapt. Yet, she continued to smile. Both The Woman and Williams are aware of the attempts made by the Strangers to shun them from living and prospering equally among one another. However, both of these women were not discouraged by their treatment and decided to fight. While The Woman s attempt failed due to her trust in an agency ran by Strangers, so did Williams. In Williams second retelling of her experience, she wrote an essay. An essay being written, for a symposium on Excluded Voices sponsored by a law review (Williams 425). With the credibility of a law firm, there is the assumption that there is no need for constant political correctness compared to the average newspaper. However, time and time again, the editors took information out of her essay, such as her race and location of the incident, because they wanted to follow set guidelines, and feared persecution and accountability (425). However, this did not stop Williams, as seen in her third retelling of her experience. She goes on to tell the world her story by speech. At this point, there is no one to censor her words, because it is her alone on the stage to hit a homerun. However, she notices the effects of her decision. I spent a whole day observing the operation processes and the procedure itself, at the same time, I was able to get the patient to the post operative care before they are discharged or sent to another floor for further observation. I had an opportunity to observe four procedures. When I first arrived I was fortunate enough to meet with a nurse who let me in the OR, who happened to be the preoperative nurse that I will work with. After changing, we got a list of 2 patients. The first thing the nurse did was to explain to me that we had to look for basic information such as allergies, lab results, present history and physical for the patient. If there is no previous history within the last month or weeks, then we need to remind the doctor to write a new one. Once we met with the patients, we started by taking vital signs, asking their identity, and ask them to explain why they are there and what procedure they are there for. I remember my nurse asking the patients about whether or not they are in the menopausal stages or if there is a chance of them being pregnant. At the same time, my nurse gave antibacterial wipes for the patients to wipe themselves in specific areas and change into the hospital gowns. The larger the mass, the quicker it will die out, whereas stars which are no more than half the size of our Sun can live up to hundreds of billion years. However no matter how large the star is, they all begin their lives in a nursery known as a molecular cloud. A molecular cloud is a giant condensation of dust and molecular gas. They are regions of relatively dense interstellar gas and dust with hydrogen molecules as well as carbon and silicate materials forming the primary constituents. The mass of a star is the determining factor of how long it lives. A red dwarf star is a star about half the size of our Sun. Due to its extremely low fusion rate, it is estimated that they could last for 10 trillion years. A medium sized star like our Sun spends its main sequence stage up to 10 billion years. Stars like our Sun, which are no more than 1.44 solar masses, will undergo fusion of hydrogen into helium. Over its life time the star slowly uses its supply of hydrogen by fusing it into helium. These reactions require high temperatures. Eventually the star will completely fuse hydrogen into helium in its core leaving inadequate amounts of thermal pressure to balance gravity. This will cause the centre of the star to contract to compensate for the heat energy lost. As this slow contraction continues, the core temperature, density, and pressure of the star continues to increase. As the star shrinks it becomes so dense that it starts to compress helium. This results in the star to swell due to the hot core and leaving a relatively cool surface. Eventually the outer layers of the star expand outwards, increasing the size of the star. As the layers continue to expand, the surface temperature continues to cool, forming a relatively large star called a red giant. In about 5 billion years, the Sun will become a red giant. Covey writes that there is not a greater investment to grow in new habits, and he invites his readers to study these habits and be patient with ourselves. I like that he writes, be patient with ourselves, because we are people that are not perfect and we cannot achieve that perfection in ourselves. The first two habits are, Be Proactive and Begin with the End in Mind. Both of these habits are about moving from independence to interdependence that focus mainly on our choices or mastering your thoughts. I like Covey s statement, I am responsible for me, and I can choose. Proactive When I first thought of proactive, it meant to recall all of the scenarios that may come up so that I may be ready. Actually, this is how Covey uses his right brain, in imaging all the things that can go wrong and dreaming up ways to help. This is natural for me to meditate this way. However, this kind of proactive can create worry and keep me up late over visualizing. I prefer praying and sitting with Jesus, because it is impossible to come up with everything alone in my own head and this causes too much work. They re able to communicate with and understand many human signs and words. They use things like gaze following and an ability to observe and then act within accordance to their owner s attention (Jensen et al., 2016). Additionally, dogs have an even more greater understanding of the human language. They use the various sounds they make, such as barking, to communicate with humans. He seemed better than he was in the prison, but not as cheery as the day we met. I knew they would by now there would be posters everywhere displaying that we should be turned in. I scampered into the woods dragging Curzon like a tail on a dog. I noticed a small, rotting shack. Hopefully no one was home. The door creaked as we went in. It was dark except for a crack through they ceiling that displayed a beckoning skylight. It called me like my mother. I walked over and touched it. I looked up to see a door, the size fit for a dwarf. Where are you Curzon shouted. He spotted me and limped over. I showed him the door and opened it. Suddenly, ... There was one rule, once you were in the fight if you backed out you would be eliminated from that round and all to come. Rudolf informed us there would be 15 battles 13 of already done. Dukterin currently holds the index and is not in the mood to give it up. The next battle started in 1 hour. Curzon and I ate the last of my apples in our food bag and were ready. We went up to Rudolf and asked where it started he walked us 3 or 4 miles out from the shack and found a piece of Swiss cheese and said, Right here. • 34. The City Of New York City The aroma of food vendors, taxi cabs, and flowers molest the face of a person as they walk the streets of New York City. The rush of a city can often be overwhelming. Even though that may be true, 80.7 percent of the U.S. population lived in urban areas as of the 2010 Census. Living in New York City is better than living in a Haysi. Living in a city offers many more conveniences, opportunities, and more diversity. Living in a city offers many amenities and service that might very well not be available in a rural area. New York City for example, has terrible traffic. A typical commute of five miles can take between seven minutes and two hours in a car. One major advantage to a city, NYC in particular, is their flawless public transportation system. Taking the subway, the commute can be shortened to an average time of ten to fifteen minutes. Take out service is great as well. Imagine it is two o clock AM, if someone were to wake up hungry, they could call their local takeout restaurant and more than likely, they would be open. Cities have so many grocers as well. Not only do cities have more conveniences, but they also offer more opportunity. 8.406 million Americans call New York City their home. Due to the large population, there is a large diversity. Many different cultures often bring in new opportunity for work that might not have been thought of in the past. Living in a large city such as NYC also means a larger, broader job market. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being a role model for my young daughter is very important to me. Receiving a higher education is not only important to me, but also to my daughter. A single mother is usually categorized in a negative light. When one says she s a single mother the first initial thoughts of many are the stereotyping that the single mother is on welfare, Medicare, and other government aids. Although the article Great Expectations: Single Mothers in Higher Education, by Diana L.Haleman is about the minority group of single mothers that live in poverty, I have some of the same issues that these women in the study had; mother, employee, and a college student. Their educational experiences often provide an opportunity for disrupting negative expectations directed toward them and also symbolize for the women the possibility of realizing the hopes and dreams they hold for themselves and their children, says Haleman, I couldn t agree more with that statement. Being a single mother, a hard worker, and a college student is not an easy task, but having my daughter grow up watching all my willpower on completing my goals will show her that no one can hold me down except myself. Money makes the world go round. There have been many studies showing that having a higher education will lead to a higher paying job. Such fires as the one in Chicago that killed a fire captain that died from the injuries that he sustained while advancing a hose line into a two story, single family structure (Weinschenk, Overholt, Madrzykowski, 2014). • 40. The Glass Menagerie And Death Of A Salesman Analysis The Glass Menagerie was a well written novel that I enjoyed because of all the different aspects of the characters lives and views of things. For example Laura an older single mother who wants the best for her two grown children Laura who is 23 years old and Tom who is the older brother. There father Mr. Wingfield abandoned them for long distance traveling and never came back so Laura is taking care of them on her own. Her daughter Laura is shy and quiet girl who has a crippled leg and cannot work because of it and her oldest son Tom is just like his father and wants to get out of Chicago and travel but he works for a factory to provide for his family. So that is the situation in the novel. The novel had little hints now and then about what was going to happen like from the characters talking, the subtitles, and the dramatic music that played throughout the play, so it was really easy to understand. The reason I chose this novel was because it was about a play and because it was one of the shortest books. The Glass Menagerie reminded me of another novel about a play called Death of a Salesman that I read from my last book project just like this one in ninth grade. In a way both novels The Glass Menagerie and Death of a Salesman are very similar because both families in the novels, the Wingfield family and the Loman family have the same difficulties and situations like having no money, job difficulties, stressful lives, running away from fears and worries, and husbands ... Everyone loves dogs, dogs can even be a person s best friend. With seeing dogs in a crowed shelters and dogs getting euthanized is sad. The issue with regular animal shelters is they must accept, or choose to accept, any and all companion animal s regardless health, temperament, or space available, with no limitation. As no kill shelters accept animals on a voluntary or space available basis, a no kill shelter does not euthanize animals who can be adopted or when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia for animals who are terminally ill or considered dangerous (Heinz). As proposed by Heinz I have volunteered at both no kill shelters and traditional shelters. In my experience, the no kill shelters tend to put down the traditional shelters for euthanizing animals. • 42. The Fuller Invented Pieces Of Theatrical Lighting... Loie Fuller invented pieces of theatrical lighting equipment. She created a unique art form by crafting multi media spectacles out of fabric, motion and light. In Fuller s autobiography, she talks about how the glass of the rose windows in the great cathedral had rays of sunlight that came on into the church in different directions, and made it very colorful. I think this is a moment that inspired her. It was something that caught her attention, and she just couldn t simply take her mind from it. This was something that encouraged her to keep digging into the things lights and colors can do in dance. In one of her videos, it shows her twirling her dress in many different ways while her dress is also changing colors. This was very unexpected for me. It was different and it made me think about the things she had to do to make this idea into a creation. I was also able to see how the lights reflecting in the church inspired her because the color of her dress kept changing as she twirled so smoothly. It was very settle and something you wouldn t usually notice right away like the lights in the church. In the reading, she states, What is the dance? It is motion. What is motion? The expression of a sensation. What is a sensation? The reaction in the human body produced by an impression or an idea perceived by the mind. A sensation is the reverberation that the body receives when an impression strikes the mind. (Fuller, 17). She is explaining the thought process that she goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a method to quench people s desires through meaningful and ethical means. The concept of good and bad are founded on this idea of values (Roccas, 2005). • 46. Marriage And Divorce In Hosea s The Hebrew Scriptures Hosea s use of the marriage metaphor in relation to the nature of YHWH and Israel s relationship was ingenious in the sense that it gives us a special insight into the divine human relations. However it raises some serious problems for those concerned with the texts that may be interpreted as excusing violence against women. In the case of the Hebrew Scriptures, the image of the husband physically retaliating against his wife is almost unavoidable, and his right to do so unquestionable, to the extent that divine retribution is based on the notion that the deity has the right to punish the people. The first task of the prophet is to capture the imagination of their audience, in order to persuade the gravity of one s message to their listeners. Hosea convinced Israel of her urgent need to repent by using a plethora of beautiful and poetic images to capture the nature of YHWH s affection and claims upon Israel and to portray the depth of Israel s separation from YHWH. In the past, scholars have been preoccupied with the historical questions that such an alleged marriage proposes (e.g. the laws regarding marriage and divorce, the nature of Canaanite fertility cults and their saturation into Hebrew religious practices, the fascinating account of Hosea and Gomer s apparent stormy marriage). The Reconstruction established the South s first state funded public school systems, created a just taxation legislation, and passed laws against discrimination and economic development programs. The approach of Congress was different than Johnson s plan, because they worked to improve the lives of African Americans by passing laws in their favor, and expanding their rights.
