Urge to Put Others First Lesley Boone once said, We are a country that prides itself on power

people think of world issues, many do not consider America s stand point on the ordeal. They are
unable to fully comprehend the growing lack of jobs, poverty, hunger, poor health care, and
meager education that takes place across the nation. American charity foundations are often eager
to jump to the rescue of other countries, but what about the detrimental issues that occur and
worsen here every day? In the past, the majority of organizations are predominantly directed at
foreign countries; helping places such as Ethiopia, India, Somalia, etc. While here, poverty and
debt are increasing by surmountable amounts. Charities for other regions are beneficial, but
shouldn t people here be first priority? Especially considering the majority of our problems have
the potential to be easily fixed. Also speculate on what will happen when we have nothing left to

4. Japanese And Japanese American Museum
Extra Credit Assignment: Japanese American Museum On my visit to the Japanese American
Museum I learned plenty of History from a culture that I would have never pictured myself going
into depth with. I learned of the roots of the Japanese, religion, and injustices that they faced
throughout decades. Within all this I also learned what was the communities way of
communication. To begin with, the growing root for Japanese American communities was from
1908 1924. In Hawaiiplantation owners thought that Japanese women should migrate since they
believed the work that women provided was up to par with what they expected. In the Mainland
s men were usually single due to laws prohibiting them from marrying white women. A rising of
a anti Japanese movement called the Gentlemen s Agreement arose in 1907 8 involving
California and Japan, making it so that no more Japanese immigrants would be allowed to
migrate to U.S soil, but a loophole was found that made it possible for women to join their
families across states. Due to traditional marriages of the Japanese custom marriages would be
planned. The way this process went was an exchange of pictures and letters and eventually the wife
s moved the U.S with their future husbands but were married legally in Japan.
Next, the Japanese immigrants culture was being Buddhist, a religion that offers a spiritual path for
transcending the suffering of existence. Some of them integrated Shinto, which was an ancient
religion in Japan and the

The Setting for Thomas Hardy s The Withered Arm and Other Wessex Tales
In the following essay I seek to show evidence of how Thomas Hardy was acutely aware of the
social status of people, how village and town life was conducted, how men and women reacted to
their own sex and to each other and the part religion played in people s daily lives.
Social class is raised a lot in Hardy s pieces. Even though these stories were all written at a different
time and then put together, you can see it is a strong theme in the book.
In the Withered Arm, there is instantly a strong sense of upper and lower class. You learn of a
milkmaid named, Rhoda Brook, and hear of her story among gossipers at the farm. She ... Show

This also shows that Mr. Twycott really cares for Sophy, as marrying someone from a lower class

Sophy and Mr. Twycott move to London where people would not know of their sin, Mr. Twycott
dies, leaving Sophy a large sum of money, a son and in a higher class. London is described as a
snobbish place and the people living there do not get on with Sophy because of the way she
speaks, …but she still held confused ideas on the use of was and were , which did not beget
a respect for her among the few acquaintances she made. This shows the city folk to be of a
higher class compared to the lower class country folk, and how they are snobbish and vain. In
country life it does not matter the way you speak, but who you are inside.
A big comparison has been made in this story between men and women. Even though Sophy was
older and the one to inherit her husband s belongings, the son takes charge, She was left no
control over anything that had been her husband s beyond her modest personal income. Her own
child would soon take over being the man of the house, The completion of the boy s course at the

Psychological Harm To begin, in the journal, Bierut et al are informing psychiatrists on the
effect of lower drinking ages on people s mental health because it causes issues. This journal
focuses on how in times of lower drinking ages, women especially are more likely to develop into
suicidal or homicidal beings. With study grants from the National Institutes of Health, they were
able to prove, These researchers said their data suggest that the national MLDA of 21 may be
preventing as many as 600 suicides and 600 homicides annually in the United States. Numbers
like these prove just how big of a difference the minimum drinking age can have on people. Not
many people take into consideration the psychological effects of drinking on people. With the
MLDA kept at 21, lives are being saved. Hence, America has not gone back to the lower drinking
age since 1984. With that, teen binge drinking has been on a constant decline since. Italy maintains
their lower drinking age and has seen an increase of teen drinkers in their country. Additionally, in

The Great Depression was a time in the U.S where the economy had dropped and the majority of
the population struggled with poverty. One of the long term causes of the Great Depression
was that there was no program to help aid the people because President Hoover believed in
rugged individualism, another long term reason of the depression was that the people had placed
money on the banks and the banks would share it for the stock market and usually didn t give it
back. Hoover was elected in 1928, he believed in rugged individualism, natural cycles, and
voluntary action which prolonged the depression because there was nothing to back up the people.

Furthermore, President Roosevelt had made a speech covering everything that he was willing

their respective families! However, some of these secrets contribute to the tearful deaths of Juliet
and Romeo. Sometimes, secrets should be told. Capulet and Montague secrets influence the play

forbidden love gives Romeo the opportunity to love her without consequences, at least for a

Throughout the years, people from all over the world have migrated to Australia and the United
States of America to create better lives for themselves such as escaping religious/political
persecution, obtaining a better education, reuniting with their families, becoming exposed to more
job opportunities, and various other reasons (Singer 2). Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in America and

cities. Immigration is vital for continuous economic and social growth. Thus, what impact does
immigration have on these two cities?
In 2011, Australia s population was 26% migrants compared to America s, which was only 13% (

Erin informed me that over a period of several months she had been feeling increasingly down,

most of the day, a diminished interest in pleasurable activities, loss of appetite, difficulties in

energy and fatigue, feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness. Other symptoms (i.e. anxiety
attacks, inability to concentrate, headaches, self judging, being hard for herself, irritability,
impatient with family, withdrawing from activities no longer gym attender) were also better
accounted for by her depression rather then other diagnosis. She reported occasional suicidal
thoughts but did not think she would carry them out and had no plan for doing so because of her

20. A Theory Of Justice By John Rawls Essay
In my discussion of this piece of text I will attempt to present an argument which suggests rational
individuals behind a veil of ignorance would assent to the two primary principles of justice found
in Rawls A theory of justice . I will also analyse the extract, in particular debating whether various
propositions made by Rawls in this extract are true. Initially it is important to situate the extract of
discussion. Section 3 of A theory of justiceis the opening of Rawls argument in A theory of justice ,
where he introduces his original position, stating how rational individuals in a hypothetical
scenario, behind a veil of ignorance, would agree to two principles of justice which would
determine the way social institutions would be organised and how primary goods would be
distributed. This section also shows Rawls agreement with the idea of hypothetical consent , an
idea which suggests that because free and rational individuals behind a veil of ignorance would
agree to Rawls two principles of social justice; they hypothetically consent to the principles of the
social contract.
Initially I will analyse this extract in detail, focusing the claims and propositions made by Rawls.

belief in this leads to his agreement with the idea of hypothetical consent, however, what if it is

Architecture, People and Landscape The idea of being able to walk on top of the building is
something that does not happen a lot. Connecting the public to the building should be more than
just creating a fascinating and interesting facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able
to connect to the people, by allowing them to not just walk inside or around but on top of the
building creating a public space within. The reason why I chose this topic is that I wanted to
make a connection to my studio project, and how I developed the idea for it. In addition, I wanted
to compare it to the OsloOperaHouseand how this assisted me in arriving at my final design. My
studio project and the Oslo Opera House have a different scale however, however I think they share
some similar concepts. The idea of togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the

summary The background of the topic provides a summary of how and when the virtual project
teams began and the challenges that companies underwent before embracing virtual project
development. The background tries to set the foundation against the traditional project teams. The
body tries to explain in detail on how the virtual project teams work, the pros and cons of using
virtual project of employees. The paper has been able to describe the various forms of virtual teams,
how they are implemented within an organization, the challenges that an organization may face
when making the application of the model and also the advantages or wins associated with the
practice. The chapter ends with recommendations with some suggestions on how to incorporate
traditional and virtual project to get a successful organization. Background The world is becoming
smaller and smaller and the advancement in technology has enabled a diversity of communication
and collaboration tools that were unaffordable for most companies to implement. Most of these
companies have employed the use of virtual groups to deal with their business endeavors because of
many reasons. Some of them include the urgency to address their customer problems, developing
products and delivery services. With the ability to create virtual teams, these teams are operating

Stravinsky was an innovative composer of the 20th century and is known to be the most influential
of 20th century music. Many of his pieces are contrasting, but the two that I have chosen are his
Piano Sonata (1924) and Tango. These pieces are very diverse. While Stravinsky is not mostly
known for his pianopieces, they are my favorite of his works.
Stravinsky s Piano Sonata, has three movements. The first movement is quarter note equals 112,
the second is adagietto and the third is quarter note equals 112 as well. This piece sounds very
similar to compositions from the Baroque, Classical and Early Romantic eras. All three movements
sound like a mixture of Bach and Beethoven. Stravinsky said that he was influenced greatly by

effective, reliable, and beneficial alternatives relating to the human species for which the drug is

Many drugs, medicines, and operations that could benefit humans may never be discovered, for
they produced no diagnosis in animal tests. Although drugs that fail in animal experiments rarely
appear tested on humans, there have been a few evident cases determined. For example, while
Lipitor did not appear promising in early stages of animal testing, a research scientist requested that
a small group of healthy human volunteers tested the drug, and only then was it found effective
and useful. In many instances, medical discoveries are delayed as researchers vainly waste time,
money, effort, and animal lives trying to create an animal model of a human disease (Aavs).
As well as inhumane treatment and delay of discovery existing as main flaws in animal testing, cost
plays a role just as large. An exceptional amount of animal cruelty is supported by the National
Institutes of Health, which designates 40% of their annual research budget and funding to animal
testing. Animal research and experimentation is a billion dollar industry, in which more money is
lost than gained. Animal importers, breeders, dealers, cage and equipment manufacturers, feed
producers, and drug companies spend a significant amount of money on procurement, handling, and
upkeep of animals (Neavs). While research founded from animals does not always promise useful
results, it is safe to conclude that

26. Importance Of Cultural Diversity In Schools
Cultural diversity has been an important topic amongst school systems for quite some time now.
There have been events that have occurred in history that have aided to the discussion, whether it is
positive or negative. Events that have stood out from the crowd include segregated schools that
wanted nothing to do with a race outside their own and schools that were eventually integrated but
not taught fairly to those amongst them. These events shaped the future for our school systems
today and as educators, it is our job to learn from them ourselves as well as educate students in
regards to this sensitive, very real manner.
Cultural diversity covers an array of areas. Culture in itself is, that complex whole which includes
knowledge, belief, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by
a human as a member of society, (UNESCO, n.d.). Different senses of culture are in multitude
when one takes a look at society as a whole. No two types of individuals, from different cultural
backgrounds, are the same on many different levels of living much less in school learning. This
area of importance begins in the classroom. For our students, cultural diversity is seen through
the lens of society, which is not always clear. As the teacher, an individual has to create a socially
accepted environment for each and every student that walks through his or her door on a daily
basis. In doing so, as a part of a lesson we will select groups and research key

What is conflict? It is a word commonly used by humans, but some can t even define the word.
Conflict is a battle, fight, or struggle, and there are many ways that humans can respond to it.
However, the most effective way to respond is by compromising. Throughout history, compromise
has saved so many lives, and has kept peaceful relations between people. Even though war is a
terrible thing, there are times when it is necessary to effectively settle disputes, as shown by Elie

On the battlefield, soldiers are hurt and killed every day. But, according to the Science Museum,
Soldiers not only suffered on the battlefield. Veterans often needed long term care owing to the
physical and psychological impact of war. Especially in the Vietnam War, since the soldiers
were constantly being attacked, but couldn t see their enemy. This messed with their minds, and
the ones still alive today have never been the same since they got back from Vietnam. War not
only has negative effects on soldiers, but also on the townspeople who live near war. The
Science Museum also writes, Civilians, particularly children, can also suffer the effects of
trauma. Civilians don t only have the constant fear of the war getting too close to them, but also
the fear of bombs and harmful chemicals. Again, in the Vietnam War, US forces used a
chemical called agent orange to destroy the foliage of forests so they could see their enemy
better. This, though, has had a long term effect on everyone who was exposed to the chemical
by giving them radiation poisoning, or in some cases, cancer. Also in the Vietnam War, the US
dropped bombs on North Vietnam, and hit many houses, villages, and fields where the civilians
grew their food. Many people died who weren t even part of the war. It can be very hard for
countries to regain their strength and money once a long war is finished. Take Germany, for
example. After WW1, Germany s economy was very unstable, so the US gave them reparation
loans to rebuilt it. An article written by Wikipedia says, The German Government estimated it had
paid the equivalent of 67.8 billion gold marks in reparations. And they didn t pay it off until 2010!

31. Pythagoras of Samos and His Theorem
Pythagoras of Samos and His Theorem Born on the Greek island of Samos around 570 BC,
Pythagoras grew up and traveled widely before establishing a religious colony in Croton. His
religious contributions and philosophy made more of an impact on his contemporaries than did his
mathematical contributions. Yet, today he is remembered as the man behind the famous
Pythagorean Theorem. This paper will examine both Pythagoras life and his gift to math. Little is
known of the historical Pythagoras. Ancient writers attempted to piece together the story of his life
according to what his friends and followers had witnessed, but most tales of Pythagoras are
embellished with exaggerations or fictitious heroics. The true story of Pythagoras is much less
certain Pythagoras was motivated to teach temperance and moderation among other philosophic
and religious doctrines. His followers participated in secret rites that remain unknown. This
brotherhood, however, raised the ire of certain citizens of Croton, perhaps because of exclusion, and
the building in which they celebrated their rates was burned to the ground. Thus, the Pythagoreans
were persecuted. Nonetheless, the followers of Pythagoras continued to gather together and observe
his doctrines. What happened to Pythagoras, though, is uncertain. According to some accounts, he
died when their prayer hall was set on fire; by other accounts, he escaped Croton but later died of
starvation in Metapontum. There are no surviving texts

The Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 was the culmination of racial tensions both endemic in American
society as a whole in the period, and certain tensions peculiar to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1921,
Greenwood and its African American population became the outlet for these often violent tensions
seething among Tulsa s white population. The following paper seeks to shed some further
understanding on what motivated and pushed the whites of Tulsa, Oklahomato such a violent,
extreme reaction during the riot.
To answer the question, Why were the whites so mean? it is necessary to understand the pre
existing conditions that existed in Tulsa, Oklahoma before the actual riot took place in 1921.
Pre existing racism in Tulsa was the foundation on which all the other causes of the riot were
built upon. Wide spread segregation was still common in America at that time and it was
accepted by many in the North and South that whites were inherently superior to blacks. These
views were particularly strong in the South, where emancipated blacks were seen as a threat and
scourge to white Southern culture, a culture which was utterly dominated by whites and where
blacks were oppressed with no hope of equal protection under the law, equal representation, etc.
This was also the case in Tulsa in the early 1900s. Blacks were segregated against by the white
residents and as a consequence formed their own community, called Greenwood, on the north side
of the Frisco Railroad tracks, which was heralded by

33. Were The Colonists Justified In The Revolutionary War
Hook. Both during and before The Revolutionary War happened, Britain killed many of the Patriots
who fought against independence from Britain. King George III made laws that took advantage of
the colonists and Britain did not give them equal rights. The Patriots were justified in seeking
independence from England, because England abused the colonists, capitalized on them, and
controlled their rights.
One reason the Patriots were right for wanting to separate from England is that they were abused
by England. On March 5, 1770, the Boston Massacre took place. This fight was a clash between

One way England controlled their rights was through placing restrictions on trade. When this
rule was implemented the colonist grew angry. Not only did Britain not have all the supplies
that the colonies needed but they taxed very high on all of the goods the colonies needed or
wanted. Another example of when England controlled the colonists rights is when King George
III closed their congress and said that Parliament had supreme rule over the colonies. In this
instance King George III eliminated colonial self governance, so that they would be less likely
to uprise. The Patriots responded to this by becoming more frustrated with the king and
increased their desire for independence. Another example of when England controlled the
colonies rights is when they revolt the right to a fair trial for the colonist accused of wrongdoing.
If the colonists was accused of a wrongdoing by Britain, the British would capture them and send
them to England for a trial. The trial would occur in England rather in the colonies. The colonists
could not defend themselves because no one in England would defend them making for a very
unfair legal process. This is in contrast to what happened after the Boston Massacre, when the
colonists gave the five British soldiers a fair trial. During the trial, the accused British soldiers
were given John Adams, who is one of the best

show consideration or appreciation. People demand different amounts of respect, though not

them . Quantitative researchon the other hand, claims to be objective, removing the researcher s
views and values from the study. While traditionally quantitative data has been deemed to produce
more reliable or valid data, it does not suffice to capture the complexities of the human experience
as it assumes a positivist epistemology.
This research has taken a narrative methodolgy as this approach recognises that realities are socially
constructed, and that human actions and agency are contingent on socio cultural, political and
historical influences (Gill and Goodson, 2011). Using in depth semi structured interviews will
ensure that trans people have the best opportunity to express their story and impart the information

that the questions would have to be chosen prior to data collection and therefore could reflect
assumptions the researcher had made and as the information shared is

41. The Influence Of Stereotypes
I get the new issue of Cosmopolitan every month and each issue is pretty close to being the exact
same. It s filled with ads for the clothing brands, the latest beauty products and usually advice
columns on sex or how to get a man. There was a story titled 3 Super Feminine Trends That Are
Already Dominating NYFW, and it showed several photos of models walking down the runway
in New York Fashion Week. Each one of the models looks emaciated. Their collar bones are
popping out, their legs look like toothpicks, and the clothes that they are modeling are just hanging
off of them, they don t even fit! I ve always noticed how thin models were, and I ve never
understood why being extremely thin was a requirement to be a model. Its sad that a womanthat is a
size 4 is considered plus size. The clothing ads include extremely photoshopped models, with thin
bodies and perfect skin.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the documentary Killing Us Softly, they had a quote from Cindy Crawford that read, I wish I
looked like Cindy Crawford. Societies idea of beauty sends a message that the thinner you are, the
better you look. This has affected women of all ages, sometimes even men. We look at overweight
people like they re disgusting, and praise thin people. The magazine cover of Kim Kardashian is a
great example, saying that this weight gain is Pregnant Kim s nightmare and comparing her to a
killer whale. Fat shaming is a huge problem, just like Laci Green asks, Why is fat such a big
deal? (Green) She also brings up in her video the fact that fat shaming leads to other very serious
mental and health problems, such as eating disorders. According to our lecture, as many as 10
million women and 1 million men suffer from anorexia or bulimia.

Napoleon Bonaparte is often characterized as one of the most brilliant and influential military
leader in all of history. Known mostly for his diminutive stature and extraordinary military skill,
Napoleon Bonaparte is commonly recognized today for his great accomplishments and works
regarding the country of France. Though he achieved many great things, the successfulness of
this leader is often still debated all across the world. Many believe he was unsuccessful and
arrogant while others argue that Napoleon s great skill shaped the world as it is known today.
Though there are numerous conflicting viewpoints throughout the world, Napoleon s
successfulness is more prominent, for his reforms to the country of France and military
dominance set him apart from all other preceding leaders. Napoleon Bonaparte, also known as
the Little Corporal, was born on August 15, 1769, on the small island of Corsica in France. He
was the fourth of eleven children of Carlo Bonaparte and Letizia Romolino. Though oftentimes
families with this many children struggled in France s floundering economy, Napoleon s father
was of the noble status, so his children were able to receive a fair education during their childhood.
Napoleon Bonaparte was then able to attend a military academy in France where he trained and
accomplished the status of commander. Napoleon, a defender of the revolution, ended up using this
military power to stage a coup d etat against the French government, and he declared
