Jim Crow Laws Vs Apartheid
As a result of the government mandated segregation, resistance in both the United States and South
Africa escalated. In other words, the history of the African civil rights movement taught: Nationalism
has been tested in the people s struggles . . . and found to be the only antidote against foreign rule and
modern imperialism (Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom 2008, 156). By comparing and contrasting the
Jim Crow Laws and apartheid, we are able convey that nationalism ultimately lead to activism and
reform. In both countries, the schism between Africans and their government worsened. To illustrate:
[The Emancipation Proclamation] ended [slavery] . . . , but blacks . . . had more in common with
African American slaves . . . than with the [Caucasian businessmen] (Bausum 2012, 19). For instance,
Congress passed the discriminatory Jim Crow Laws in order to establish a hierarchy based on the
plantation mentality (Bausum 2012, 14). For South Africans, the National Party (the Nats) in 1948,
made apartheid the official law. Both forms of segregation continued the cycle of poverty for coloured
people and ensured [that Caucasians had better quality education], hospitals, and other public services
(Rose 2011, 12). For example, African American garbage men s insufficient salary was based on their
garbage routes rather than an hourly wage (Bausum 2012, 14). Similarly, black South African staff
received inadequate pay and the law outlawed strikes and the formation of unions.

The Hobbit And Fellowship Of The Ring Essay
The story of Middle Earth and its creation that came from the depths of J.R.R Tolkien s imagination is
remarkable. Tolkien created several races, each with their own history to shape their actions taken
during the third age to influence the events that take place in The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the
Ring. Throughout the novels these races interactions with one another evolved. In contrast with The
Hobbit, the The Fellowship of the Ring(FOTR) showcased the significant change in relationships
between the Dwarves and Elves, the Hobbits and Gandalf, as well as between the One Ring and its
bearer. One relationship that evolved between The Hobbit and FOTR was between the Dwarves and
Elves which involved their strengthened bond over time. For example, in The Hobbit, Thorin had
strong hatred for the Elves of Mirkwood after they refrained from participating in the fight against
Smaug to protect the Dwarven city of Dale. It is shown throughout The Hobbit that the Elves and
Dwarves have a strained relationship because of their rough past ... Show more content on

is between the hobbits and the wizard Gandalf involving his impact on the hobbits way of life. In The
Hobbit, Gandalf was called an entertainer and bringer of joy to the residents of the Shire. Throughout
this novel, Gandalf showed a fondess for Bilbo and had faith in his ability to carry out his duty as the
burgalar even when Bilbo was doubted by some of the Dwarves, namely Thorin. However, in The
Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf is labeled as a disturber of the peace and he became close to Bilbo s
nephew. Gandalf was the one who led Bilbo on a path of adventure, symbolizing the hobbits exposure
to taking risks. Tolkien aimed to show how Gandalf had led the hobbits willingness to fulfill the
ultimate duty of destroying the One Ring, a duty no one else could have taken on. Gandalf exposing
the hobbits to the call of adventure led to the benefit of all Middle

Summary Of Will Storr s Visit To Past Life
In the previous chapter, Will Storr visited a Past Life Regression therapist who essentially opened the
floodgates of his mind. This inspired his decision to take some time in the Blue Mountains of
Australia to meditate in this chapter. While he intended to enroll in the Vipassana Meditation Center s
meditation session purely for the purpose of a mental retreat, Storr quickly discovered that it was also
a physically taxing experience. He got so into his own zone that he found himself unable to help
others who were more obviously struggling alongside him. This lead him to wonder about the origin
and function of cognitive dissonance why do we feel one thing and say or do another? He cited many
psychological experiments before coming to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, people in the study believed they were more likely to win the lottery if they chose the
numbers versus having the numbers randomly generated. Assuming that the individual choosing the
numbers knows no more about the winning sequence than the random generator, then this notion is
illogical. Choosing is as arbitrary by a person as a random generator the only difference is that people
often choose numbers with sentimental value, such as a birthday, anniversary, or favorite number.
However, in this particular instance, people felt that their odds were increased when they chose the
numbers despite no apparent logical reason to think so ergo, the illusion of control (Sanger). It is
important to note that the illusion of control had no measurable effect in this scenario whether people
chose their numbers or not, their odds did not change. I think this implies that even when we are able
to achieve unity between our interior and exterior selves, some things are simply out of our self s
reach. Sometimes, other factors are simply too powerful to ignore; consequently, they are given
control. Is it not possible that this could relate to the disconnect we feel between our interior and
exterior selves, particularly in stressful

Essay on Queen Elizabeth
The last queen of the Tudor dynasty, Queen Elizabeth I proved to be on of the most celebrated, and
controversial leaders in English history. Raised in a neglectful home, and shadowed by her mother s
reputation, Elizabeth did not have the royal treatment that her siblings received. From her birth, she
was a disappointment, as a child she was intelligent, yet unnoticed, and the road to her 1558 1603
reign was troubled. Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. To the disappointment of King Henry
VII, her father, she was a presumptive heir to the throne. Elizabeth s older sister, Mary, would have
been heir to the throne, but that was stripped from her when Henry VII divorced her mother, Catherine
of Aragon. Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth s mother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary?s determination was to destroy the Protestant faith in England. One of her acts as queen was
confining Elizabeth to the Tower of London for two months on suspicion of collaborating against her
plans. Mary suspected that she was pregnant, and Elizabeth?s probability at descending the throne was
diminishing rapidly, although Mary recognized Elizabeth as heir to the throne. It turned out Mary was
not pregnant, and she became very ill. On November 17, 1558 she died. On January 15, 1559
Elizabeth became queen at the age of twenty five. A light snow fell on the packed London streets as
the new queen was celebrated. The queen repeatedly told her people ?I thank you with all my heart.?
After the coronation ceremony, Elizabeth sat down to a lavish ten hour banquet. Many challenged the
queen?s right to absolute power. John Knox stated ?Women are unsuited to rule.? Elizabeth made it
abundantly clear she would not stand for disobedience. During her reign, Elizabeth enjoyed charming
men into agreeing with her views. To insure that her statesmen and courtiers did not take their
positions for granted, she alternated between outburst of royal displeasure and displays of humor and
warmth. Elizabeth was considered by most to be a gorgeous queen, and her beauty was unmatched.
During her childhood, while living with Catherine Parr, Elizabeth experienced emotional distress
which many believe affected her love

Essay on An Analysis Of John Berger
Pictures Don amp;#8217;t Always Paint a Thousand Words
John Berger makes a bold statement in saying amp;#8220; No other relic or text from the past can
offer such a direct testimony about the world which surrounded other people at other times. In this
respect images are more precise and richer than literature, ; (Ways of Reading, 106). This statement is
very untrue. Literature has been the focal point of all modern learning.. Literature lets the reader feel
what the author is thinking, not just see it as you would in a painting. This can be proven after reading
Berger amp;#8216;s descriptions of paintings in Ways of Seeing and also reading parts of literature
written by W.E.B Dubois.
When a reader reads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example, that writing explains much more than a picture is Berger amp;#8217;s On
Rembrandt amp;#8217;s amp;#8220;Women in Bed. ; When I look at this painting I see a young
woman looking up at something from her bed. He writes amp;#8220; there is a complicity between the
women and the painter. This complicity includes both retinence and abandon , day and night. The
curtain of the bed which Hendrickje lifts up her hand , marks the threshold between daytime and
nighttime. ;( 129) From this painting I could not see any of this. The writing paints this picture in the
readers mind, much better than the actual image. This explanation also enables a reader to relate to the
writing. From this writing I can see this girl in the bed and almost feel what she is thinking. From the
picture all I saw was a girl laying in bed, nothing more.
Again Berger describes Caravaggio amp;#8217;s amp;#8220;The Calling of St. Matthew ;. In this
picture, to the naked eye, all the viewer would see is group of men in a dimly lit room. But through
Berger amp;#8217;s description a reader or viewer can see much more . Berger amp;#8217;s says this
painting depicts amp;#8220; five men sitting around their usual table , telling stories , gossiping,
boasting of what one day the will do, counting money .Suddenly the door is flung open . The two

An Introduction Of Navajo Constellations
An Introduction to Navajo Constellations Throughout our existence, mankind has looked up to the
stars with a fantastical wonderment that excites a feeling of the unknown. In order to understand the
heavens above us, ancient cultures created grand mythologies utilizing valiant heroes, gods, and life
practices and then imbedded these stories into the stars in the form of constellations. One of these
cultures is the Navajo Native American tribe that resided in the southwest region of the United States.
By viewing these constellations and the myths behind them, we can learn about what they Navajo held
scared and how they viewed the world around them. An important aspect of Navajo culture is the time
period in which traditional stories can be told. Stories of the sky which include the moon, sun, and
stars can only be told during the winter months which is regarded as the time from the first first,
usually in October, until the first thunderstorm, usually in late February. It is currently winter as this is
being written so the following information falls in accordance with Navajo tradition. We ask that this
only be read and shared during the appropriate time period to respect the traditions of a most noble
people. The Navajo are the largest federally recognized Native American Indian tribe in the United
States. The Diné Bikéyah or Navajoland encompasses 27,000 square miles residing within Arizona,
Utah, and New Mexico and contains a population of over 220,000 natives. The

Why Do Companies Use Competitive Bidding
Title: Explain why companies use competitive bidding and explain the advantage of using it.
Introduction
In the modern businesses, selecting the qualified suppliers becomes more and more important
activities for the companies. Lots of companies use the method of competitive bidding, which is
commonly used for selecting suppliers. Transparent procurement method in which bids from
competing contractors, suppliers, or vendors are invited by openly advertising the scope,
specifications, and terms and conditions of the proposed contract as well as the criteria by which the
bids will be evaluated [1]. In this essay, I will try to explain the reason and the advantage of the
companies using competitive bidding.
Main body
The reason of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The buyer controls the selection completely. It means the buyer s position is more positive and more
powerful.
ASL upgrade
The buyer commonly sends their contract to the existing supplier. It is very difficult for the other
qualified suppliers or small sellers to be noticed by the buyer. Competitive bidding can introduce more
potential suppliers into the AVL. There are more options for the buyer.
Win win relationship
Competitive bidding is easy to acquire the win win relationship between the buyers and bidders. Both
two sides satisfy the product price, and good for them to form the long term relationship.
Better information
Competitive bidding can produce the up to date development and value of the product.
Transparency
Transparent competitive bidding can make a fair bidding environment for all suppliers. No matter the
large suppliers or small suppliers, both of them have an opportunity to chase the contracts, awarding
the contract with competitive price.
Conclusion
Competitive bidding is the more efficient method for selecting qualified suppliers. It is base on the
quotation from potential suppliers to determine the final suppliers. The competitive prices conduce to
the buyer getting more options and reducing purchasing costs. It helps the buyer and supplier to
establish the win win relationship, which may be developed into

The Land Registration Act 2002
The land registration act 2002 was aimed at implementing the compulsory recording of titles in land,
so as to retain the information in one piece, therefore making interest in land simpler to identify. The
authors took into consideration the fact that the land register was rather fairly accurate, because
despite the mirror principle that the register is a reflection of title, this is not entirely true. In this essay
I will show the extent to which the land register is fairly accurate in its registering of titles. Land
registration was first operated under the Land registration act 1925. This was the first act, which came
into existence before it was repealed and replaced by the LRA 2002.
After registration of title to land, the registrar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The act created a scheme for registration of most kinds of entitlement in land.
(To be referenced)The land registration act 2002 in its creation is to ensure that as many interests in
registered land as possible are shown on the register (or, if not on the register, are not binding on
purchasers and to make arrangements that will allow dispositions of registered land to be handled
electronically. The LRA 2002 came into existence and in effect replaced the previous act which was
the LRA 1925. With the LRA 2002 came some modifications, which in effect made registration of
property faster and cheaper. It also ensured immediate recording of transactions and constant updating
of the register so as to avoid the late recording of new owners of land.
Earlier I mentioned different grades of tittle, which would be awarded by the registrar after the
registration of a title. Going into greater coverage of these grades of title, there is absolute freehold.
The absolute freehold is granted a piece of land when the registrar can see that the necessary
information concerning the land is provided. Information about the land can be easily explained to
prospective purchasers. However it has been stated that the registrar does not only have to grant thus
grade of title to only perfect land, but rather is allowed to overlook certain information, therefore
creating a method of prevention, which disallows future purchasers from being disturbed with
technical defects. This is the reason

St. Louis Art Museum Report
If you have time to view one gallery of paintings at the St. Louis Art Museum if you re in St. Louis,
the collection of European Art should be your only choice. European Art consists of varieties of
paintings, sculptures, textiles, and metalwork made in Europe and parts of the British Isles between
the 7th and 18th centuries. Early records of European Art came from the Ancient Middle East around
3000 BC, where art forms from the Ancient Middle East began to become abundant in Europe. As
artistic development was made, different cultures would adopt their own forms of it and cause it to
spread to most of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Eventually, as time went on, art would
change, vary and types of it would flourish, depending on what was going on in society. It s very rare

The Seven Years War
The Seven Years War, also known as the French and Indian War in the colonies, was the beginning of
outward conflict between the British and French over North American colonies. Most Europeans
viewed the Indians as a means to get something they wanted; they were pawns during this struggle in
North America. During the 18th century, there were many alliances and discord among the Indians and
the Europeans. The demise of many alliances was the lack of trust and suspicions of betrayal. The
Europeans were a dominating force in the French and Indian War affecting aspects of territory, trade,
and government in North America. Since the French landed along St. Lawrence River in Canada,
many became traders befriending the Native Americans and living calmly together. In 1756, Britain
and France declared war with each other transforming the hostilities in North America into a global
conflict. France and England had been enemies for generations and had already fought for power in
Europe, America, Asia, and Africa. The British and the French both set their intentions on the Forks of
the Ohio because of the popular riverside region. In early stages of the war, the British were appearing
catastrophic while the French, hopeful. The British suffered a series of defeats against the French and
their broad network of Native American alliances such as the displaced Indians, the Shawnees and the
Delawares. At this time, the Iroquois remain neutral. Later under William Pitt, the

in children compared to adults. They found that children processed language differently than adults
and that children had trouble integrating contextual cues (Rabagliati et al., 2013, p. 1085). And they
suggested that this may be because children s executive function abilities are not fully developed
(Rabagliati et al. p. 1085, 2013). This notion is in alignment with previous research by Khanna and
Boland (2010) who studied lexical ambiguity resolution in 7 to 10 year old s and in adults. They found
that those who had more fully developed executive function abilities also were more sensitive to
context in their lexical interpretation (Khanna Boland, 2010).
These results are starting to paint a picture that the structures for analyzing and interpreting syntax and
semantics may be different than the structures that are involved in a pragmatic interpretation. One
might hypothesize that the modules for strict semantic understanding are in

How Did The Gold Rushes Affect Australia s Economy
Introduction
The gold rushes was a major event in Australian history. The gold rushes were important because it
shaped Australia s economy. The gold rushes started in 1851 when Edward/William Hammond
Hargreaves discovered gold in the New South Wales colony on the 12th of February. The gold rushes
made people quit their jobs with hope that they would find gold and become rich. In 1852 the gold
rushes bought 90,000 people to Victoria. When all the hotels and all the accommodation was full

ABSTRACT
In this paper, a senior federal agent has been assigned as the division training officer, who is
responsible for providing and coordinating training for divisional agents and the local police officers
that have been assigned to work on a federal task force. I am assisting in the preparation of the

Under the fourth amendment, Police do not need a warrant for a search if probable cause is there.
(Schmalleger, 2012).The search and seizure are made under the reasonable cause. For instance, For
example, A police officer makes a routine traffic stop of a vehicle to site the driver for speeding and
smells alcohol when he talks with the driver, then the officer has probable cause to search the vehicle
for more illegal things without a warrant (Schmalleger, 2012)
The officers have the right to search in the case of plain view doctrine (Schmalleger, 2012). It can be
understood with an example; if an officer goes to a doctor for assistance or medical help and during
the process, he sees drugs; in this situation, he can legally forfeit him and make an arrest at the
moment. The plain view doctrine applies under legal circumstances and in the places where the police
officers have a valid right. All these searchers and reasons are persuasive and influential (Schmalleger,
2012).
Searches that require probable cause
Yes, all of the time a search warrant will require probable cause. Our important constitutional right
The Fourth Amendment means that police cannot arrest or make search without probable cause. For
example, the police cannot just come into a residence unless the proper documentation is in hand such

Green And Social Responsibility For Global Warming
Nowadays, people are becoming increasingly aware of environmental protection. Going green is a
term used to refer to a series of process aimed at embracing an environmental and ecologically
friendly lifestyle while at the same time adhering to legal and social norms aimed at practicing the
environments and natural resources. The adoption of gen strategies by governments and most industry
players is informed by the adverse effects of climate change that continue to increase the costs of
production while at the same time accelerating environmental degradation. Currently, the world has
put more emphasis on going green and embracing socially responsible approaches. The rising costs of
climate change and the debilitating effects of global warming have been the main reasons for the
vibrant state of going green and socially responsibility conventions in the world. Startling statics about
climate change have informed the need to embrace sustainable approaches in business and governance
as a way of mitigation. To justify the vibrant state of going green and social responsibility in the world
today, one has to revisit the grim statics associate with global warming (Stewart, 2014). Studies have
revealed that at least 45 percent of the world s population is adversely affected by climate change. The
effects of this global phenomenon are evenly distributed across all the continents of the world. From
Australia to Texas, droughts are systematically becoming common environmental phenomena.

Comparing The Behavior Of The Stuffer With Distilled Water
Part I. Comparing the behavior of the buffer with distilled water First, a pH meter was collected from
the stock room and calibrated to prepare for data collection. 25 mL of distilled, DI water was then
poured into a clean, dry 100 mL beaker and using the pH meter the pH of the DI water was measured
and recorded. The initial pH of distilled water was more basic before the addition of HCl. 1 drop of
0.50 M HCl was added to a beaker using a disposable pipette and the change in pH was recorded. The
measured pH was much more acidic after the addition of the HCl. After recording the data the solution
was thrown down the sink and a new 25 mL of DI water was placed in a clean dry 100 mL beaker. The

to the beaker with the 25 mL of the buffer and mixed. The new pH was recorded. 1 mL of 0.5 M HCl
continued being added until the pH dropped by 0.5 units. The pH was measured and recorded. Only a
few trials were needed. The used buffer solution was thrown down the sink and then a new 25 mL of
the prepared buffer was poured into a clean 100 mL beaker. The same process was repeated like for
the HCl, but this time using the strong base NaOH. 1 mL of 0.5 M NaOH solution was added to the
beaker with the 25 mL of the buffer and mixed. The new pH was recorded. Again, 1 mL of 0.5 M
NaOH continued being added and the pH was recorded until it had risen by 0.5 units. This time more
trials were performed.
Part IV. Determining the effect on the pH of diluting the buffer The used buffer solution was discarded
and then a new 12.5 mL of the prepared buffer was poured into a clean 100 mL beaker. To dilute the

Professional Socialization In Nursing
Professional Socialization
Socialization is the process during which people learn the roles, statuses and values necessary for
participation in social institutions. (Dinmohammadi, 2013) This process is life long and begins with
learning norms and roles of a family. It is important to develop a self concept which will continue to
grow. As a person gets older you develop new groups and assume new roles. In turn the person will
learn new norms and redefine self concepts. Professional socialization is only the periodic process of
socialization that continues throughout an individual s life.

History of the Indian Rupee
The currency of India is the rupee. Rupee is derived from the Sanskrit rupyakam which means coin of
silver ( Indian Rupee ). The rupee has transitioned through several governing bodies over its recorded
history. Each transitional phase can be traced by the examples of the rupee notes as follows: early
private and semi governmental banks, Government of India, King George V, King George VI, Indo
French Territories, Indo Portuguese Territories, Prisoner of War Coupons, Princely States, cash
coupons of Princely States, and post Independent India (Indian Currency Collector Online).

Dear University Of Wisconsin Madison Admissions
Dear University of Wisconsin Madison Admissions,
Growing up a Caucasian, upper middle class child in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I remember feeling
perplexed every time I visited my neighborhood grocery store. While the groceries in one part of the
store served a demographic population similar to my own, the other items catered to the low income,
predominately African American population located in the adjacent neighborhood. My grocery store
mirrored the demographic make up of my city, yet was not reflected in my educational trajectory. My
parents, like many financially secure families in my area, sent me to a private college preparatory
school to escape the deficiencies of the public school system in East Baton Rouge Parish. While white

A conversation ingrained in my memory involved two adolescent boys from San Antonio Independent
School District (SAISD). When asked about their future ambitions, one student casually responded
that he would go to prison like his father. The other expressed a desire to rise above his inner city
milieu, but had little sense his abilities or of his options. In stark contrast, students from Alamo
Heights, an affluent neighboring district, held ambitions to become doctors, lawyers, and politicians,
and demonstrated an understanding of the prerequisites for their desired career path. The graduation
rate of Alamo Heights stood at 98% while SAISD s graduation rate lingered around 60%. The contrast
between these two districts grows more disturbing when considered through the lens of racial equality.
While SAISD s population is 98% minority, the Anglo population in Alamo Heights totals slightly
over 55%. Yet, 74% of Alamo Heights graduates achieve a four year college diploma, while only 4%
percent of SAISD alumni attain a bachelor s degree. An opportunity gap results from this discrepancy,
ultimately proving detrimental to social mobility.

The challenges of elementary, middle, and high school accumulate and progress through the years.
One of them being social status and appearance. I for one, had fallen to the bottom of the totem pole. I
was considered a bulls eye, targeted by those that wished to shower me with arrows in the form of
harsh words and taunts. I was an outcast, rejected from the norm. Although laborious, I climbed up the
totem thanks to achieve strength and confidence. At the time of raging hormones and every student is

I grew tired of being homely, of the arrows, of being punctured with words that were, supposedly,
meant to leave me unharmed. The condensed circle of friends and family I developed, constantly
insisted that I am no less than an extraordinary human being. They continued the pestering, yet I stood
unyielding convinced I would never be better than the dirt that s walked on. It must have been their
persistence that led to the realization: beautiful things grow within the dirt, relying on its nutrients to
grow strong and great. I was more valuable as a human than a target, yet instead, a fighter. In order to
win against the enemies, to no longer be a victim, I needed to first fight the battle within my own mind
before progressing to tackle outer defenses. Confidence has been the inflexible trait to fix, rather than
the higher resilient features such as activeness or originality. In time, the laborious work and constant
battles paid off. I had learned to have my own confidence, trust myself, and notice an inner beauty,
despite the fact it had taken an autoimmune disease, friends, and self

Recruitment Process For The Assistant Manager At Panera Essay
The purpose of this letter is to inform you about the specific steps we have taken in the recruiting
process for our assistant manager at our new Panera location in North Liberty, Iowa and what
compensation strategy we plan to put in place. In order to recruit the best possible assistant manager at
Panera, we plan on executing multiple recruiting methods including local advertisements, referrals
from current employees of Panera, and posting the open position to general job listing sites and the
corporate website. Recruiting can be described as the process of developing a pool of qualified
candidates (Williams, p. 223). We are looking for someone to fill the assistant manager position that is
highly qualified and shows an exemplary set of skills. We are going to be looking externally for an
assistant manager who can bring in new ideas and perspectives that can make our company thrive
since many establishments that rely exclusively on network hiring tend to be small, less formalized,
and in the private sector (Marsden, 1994). We are going to be targeting employees that we think will
fit the job description well which includes being able to complete the tasks, duties, and responsibilities
expected of them and that they will fit in along with current staff members. Along with advertising in
the local newspaper we will be looking at possible referrals, posting the job on general job listing sites
as well as the corporate website for Panera. General job listing sites are

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Essay
You have probably heard and may even have used the term hyperactivity. The notion is a modern one:
there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied too often
and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) estimates that
all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD (Simmons, RG. 1993).
Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive
restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those
children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991).
Today most psychologists agree that the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the attention process breaks down for a particular child.
Symptoms of inattention, as listed in the DSM IV, are:
Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, or other
activities
Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities
Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the
workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions)
Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities
Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (such as
schoolwork or homework)
Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g., toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or
tools)
Often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
Often forgetful in daily activities (Soar, R.S. Soar, R.M. 1993)
What causes ADHD?
ADHD is a neurobiologically based developmental disability estimated to affect between 3 5 percent
of the school age population (Panksepp, J. 1998). No one knows exactly what causes ADHD.
Scientific evidence suggests that the disorder is genetically transmitted in many cases and results from

Universal Themes
The universal theme of The Seven Ages of Man is that women and men live brief lives to play their
part before departing from mortality. The universal theme of Demeter is an obsessive mom trying to
get her child back. The universal theme in The Seven Ages of Man and Demeter have similar
universal themes because both themes are basically saying the choices made in life determines the
future. In The Seven Ages of Man one of the stages is the life of a school boy. The school boy
unwillingly attends school and lack discipline. As he grow, he grows into a more mature person. In the
text it states And then the whining g schoolboy, with his satchel and shining morning face, creeping
like snail unwillingly to school. The text also stated Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths, and bearded

me of Thanksgiving, and pumpkin pie with cinnamon. Some of the pumpkin shaped candle holders

picture was taken, it was the day before Labor Day, and there were a lot of people at Bath and Body
Works trying to catch a bargain.
You can also see many fall decorations in the picture. There are artificial leaves hanging in the right
corner of the picture. The leaves look like they could be a part of a real tree. They are in mid transition
between green and colors like brown and red. Like I have previously mentioned, there are a
substantial amount of pumpkins in the picture that make you think of fall. Fall is my favorite time of
the year because there are so many colors, and the trees lose their leaves. If you walk on the sidewalk
during fall, the leaves will crunch underneath your feet as you walk. I also like fall because my
birthday is October, and Halloween takes place. Bath and Body Works even makes Halloween themed

  • 2. Jim Crow Laws Vs Apartheid As a result of the government mandated segregation, resistance in both the United States and South Africa escalated. In other words, the history of the African civil rights movement taught: Nationalism has been tested in the people s struggles . . . and found to be the only antidote against foreign rule and modern imperialism (Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom 2008, 156). By comparing and contrasting the Jim Crow Laws and apartheid, we are able convey that nationalism ultimately lead to activism and reform. In both countries, the schism between Africans and their government worsened. To illustrate: [The Emancipation Proclamation] ended [slavery] . . . , but blacks . . . had more in common with African American slaves . . . than with the [Caucasian businessmen] (Bausum 2012, 19). For instance, Congress passed the discriminatory Jim Crow Laws in order to establish a hierarchy based on the plantation mentality (Bausum 2012, 14). For South Africans, the National Party (the Nats) in 1948, made apartheid the official law. Both forms of segregation continued the cycle of poverty for coloured people and ensured [that Caucasians had better quality education], hospitals, and other public services (Rose 2011, 12). For example, African American garbage men s insufficient salary was based on their garbage routes rather than an hourly wage (Bausum 2012, 14). Similarly, black South African staff received inadequate pay and the law outlawed strikes and the formation of unions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Hobbit And Fellowship Of The Ring Essay The story of Middle Earth and its creation that came from the depths of J.R.R Tolkien s imagination is remarkable. Tolkien created several races, each with their own history to shape their actions taken during the third age to influence the events that take place in The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. Throughout the novels these races interactions with one another evolved. In contrast with The Hobbit, the The Fellowship of the Ring(FOTR) showcased the significant change in relationships between the Dwarves and Elves, the Hobbits and Gandalf, as well as between the One Ring and its bearer. One relationship that evolved between The Hobbit and FOTR was between the Dwarves and Elves which involved their strengthened bond over time. For example, in The Hobbit, Thorin had strong hatred for the Elves of Mirkwood after they refrained from participating in the fight against Smaug to protect the Dwarven city of Dale. It is shown throughout The Hobbit that the Elves and Dwarves have a strained relationship because of their rough past ... In The Hobbit, Gandalf was called an entertainer and bringer of joy to the residents of the Shire. Throughout this novel, Gandalf showed a fondess for Bilbo and had faith in his ability to carry out his duty as the burgalar even when Bilbo was doubted by some of the Dwarves, namely Thorin. However, in The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf is labeled as a disturber of the peace and he became close to Bilbo s nephew. Gandalf was the one who led Bilbo on a path of adventure, symbolizing the hobbits exposure to taking risks. Tolkien aimed to show how Gandalf had led the hobbits willingness to fulfill the ultimate duty of destroying the One Ring, a duty no one else could have taken on. • 4. Summary Of Will Storr s Visit To Past Life In the previous chapter, Will Storr visited a Past Life Regression therapist who essentially opened the floodgates of his mind. This inspired his decision to take some time in the Blue Mountains of Australia to meditate in this chapter. While he intended to enroll in the Vipassana Meditation Center s meditation session purely for the purpose of a mental retreat, Storr quickly discovered that it was also a physically taxing experience. He got so into his own zone that he found himself unable to help others who were more obviously struggling alongside him. This lead him to wonder about the origin and function of cognitive dissonance why do we feel one thing and say or do another? He cited many psychological experiments before coming to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, people in the study believed they were more likely to win the lottery if they chose the numbers versus having the numbers randomly generated. Assuming that the individual choosing the numbers knows no more about the winning sequence than the random generator, then this notion is illogical. Choosing is as arbitrary by a person as a random generator the only difference is that people often choose numbers with sentimental value, such as a birthday, anniversary, or favorite number. However, in this particular instance, people felt that their odds were increased when they chose the numbers despite no apparent logical reason to think so ergo, the illusion of control (Sanger). It is important to note that the illusion of control had no measurable effect in this scenario whether people chose their numbers or not, their odds did not change. I think this implies that even when we are able to achieve unity between our interior and exterior selves, some things are simply out of our self s reach. Sometimes, other factors are simply too powerful to ignore; consequently, they are given control. Is it not possible that this could relate to the disconnect we feel between our interior and exterior selves, particularly in stressful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay on Queen Elizabeth The last queen of the Tudor dynasty, Queen Elizabeth I proved to be on of the most celebrated, and controversial leaders in English history. From her birth, she was a disappointment, as a child she was intelligent, yet unnoticed, and the road to her 1558 1603 reign was troubled. Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. Elizabeth made it abundantly clear she would not stand for disobedience. During her reign, Elizabeth enjoyed charming men into agreeing with her views. To insure that her statesmen and courtiers did not take their positions for granted, she alternated between outburst of royal displeasure and displays of humor and warmth. Essay on An Analysis Of John Berger Pictures Don amp;#8217;t Always Paint a Thousand Words John Berger makes a bold statement in saying amp;#8220; No other relic or text from the past can offer such a direct testimony about the world which surrounded other people at other times. In this respect images are more precise and richer than literature, ; (Ways of Reading, 106). This statement is very untrue. Literature has been the focal point of all modern learning.. Literature lets the reader feel what the author is thinking, not just see it as you would in a painting. He writes amp;#8220; there is a complicity between the women and the painter. This complicity includes both retinence and abandon , day and night. The curtain of the bed which Hendrickje lifts up her hand , marks the threshold between daytime and nighttime. ;( 129) From this painting I could not see any of this. The writing paints this picture in the readers mind, much better than the actual image. This explanation also enables a reader to relate to the writing. The Land Registration Act 2002 The land registration act 2002 was aimed at implementing the compulsory recording of titles in land, so as to retain the information in one piece, therefore making interest in land simpler to identify. The authors took into consideration the fact that the land register was rather fairly accurate, because despite the mirror principle that the register is a reflection of title, this is not entirely true. In this essay I will show the extent to which the land register is fairly accurate in its registering of titles. Land registration was first operated under the Land registration act 1925. The LRA 2002 came into existence and in effect replaced the previous act which was the LRA 1925. With the LRA 2002 came some modifications, which in effect made registration of property faster and cheaper. It also ensured immediate recording of transactions and constant updating of the register so as to avoid the late recording of new owners of land. Earlier I mentioned different grades of tittle, which would be awarded by the registrar after the registration of a title. Going into greater coverage of these grades of title, there is absolute freehold. The absolute freehold is granted a piece of land when the registrar can see that the necessary information concerning the land is provided. Information about the land can be easily explained to prospective purchasers. However it has been stated that the registrar does not only have to grant thus grade of title to only perfect land, but rather is allowed to overlook certain information, therefore creating a method of prevention, which disallows future purchasers from being disturbed with technical defects. The Seven Years War The Seven Years War, also known as the French and Indian War in the colonies, was the beginning of outward conflict between the British and French over North American colonies. Most Europeans viewed the Indians as a means to get something they wanted; they were pawns during this struggle in North America. During the 18th century, there were many alliances and discord among the Indians and the Europeans. The demise of many alliances was the lack of trust and suspicions of betrayal. The Europeans were a dominating force in the French and Indian War affecting aspects of territory, trade, and government in North America. Since the French landed along St. Lawrence River in Canada, many became traders befriending the Native Americans and living calmly together. Perhaps the complex systems involved in pragmatic language understanding are modules that specifically process information about social context, and, it is likely that these interpretation. Perhaps one might start by searching for data suggesting that semantic processing and pragmatic processing involve different parts of the brain. In a series of experiments, Rabagliati, Pylkkanen Marcus (2013) tested linguistic ambiguity resolution in children compared to adults. They found that children processed language differently than adults and that children had trouble integrating contextual cues (Rabagliati et al., 2013, p. 1085). And they suggested that this may be because children s executive function abilities are not fully developed (Rabagliati et al. p. 1085, 2013). This notion is in alignment with previous research by Khanna and Boland (2010) who studied lexical ambiguity resolution in 7 to 10 year old s and in adults. They found that those who had more fully developed executive function abilities also were more sensitive to context in their lexical interpretation (Khanna Boland, 2010). It must have been their persistence that led to the realization: beautiful things grow within the dirt, relying on its nutrients to grow strong and great. I was more valuable as a human than a target, yet instead, a fighter. In order to win against the enemies, to no longer be a victim, I needed to first fight the battle within my own mind before progressing to tackle outer defenses. Confidence has been the inflexible trait to fix, rather than the higher resilient features such as activeness or originality. In time, the laborious work and constant battles paid off. I had learned to have my own confidence, trust myself, and notice an inner beauty, despite the fact it had taken an autoimmune disease, friends, and self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Recruitment Process For The Assistant Manager At Panera Essay The purpose of this letter is to inform you about the specific steps we have taken in the recruiting process for our assistant manager at our new Panera location in North Liberty, Iowa and what compensation strategy we plan to put in place. In order to recruit the best possible assistant manager at Panera, we plan on executing multiple recruiting methods including local advertisements, referrals from current employees of Panera, and posting the open position to general job listing sites and the corporate website. Recruiting can be described as the process of developing a pool of qualified candidates (Williams, p. 223). We are looking for someone to fill the assistant manager position that is highly qualified and shows an exemplary set of skills. We are going to be looking externally for an assistant manager who can bring in new ideas and perspectives that can make our company thrive since many establishments that rely exclusively on network hiring tend to be small, less formalized, and in the private sector (Marsden, 1994). We are going to be targeting employees that we think will fit the job description well which includes being able to complete the tasks, duties, and responsibilities expected of them and that they will fit in along with current staff members. Along with advertising in the local newspaper we will be looking at possible referrals, posting the job on general job listing sites as well as the corporate website for Panera. General job listing sites are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Essay You have probably heard and may even have used the term hyperactivity. The notion is a modern one: there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied too often and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) estimates that all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD (Simmons, RG. 1993). Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991). Today most psychologists agree that the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still others may get lost in the directions along the way. A careful observer can watch and see where the attention process breaks down for a particular child. Symptoms of inattention, as listed in the DSM IV, are: Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, or other activities Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions) Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (such as schoolwork or homework) Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g., toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools) Often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli Often forgetful in daily activities (Soar, R.S. Soar, R.M. 1993) What causes ADHD? ADHD is a neurobiologically based developmental disability estimated to affect between 3 5 percent of the school age population (Panksepp, J. 1998). No one knows exactly what causes ADHD. Scientific evidence suggests that the disorder is genetically transmitted in many cases and results from a chemical imbalance ... • 34. Universal Themes The universal theme of The Seven Ages of Man is that women and men live brief lives to play their part before departing from mortality. The universal theme of Demeter is an obsessive mom trying to get her child back. The universal theme in The Seven Ages of Man and Demeter have similar universal themes because both themes are basically saying the choices made in life determines the future. In The Seven Ages of Man one of the stages is the life of a school boy. The school boy unwillingly attends school and lack discipline. As he grow, he grows into a more mature person. In the text it states And then the whining g schoolboy, with his satchel and shining morning face, creeping like snail unwillingly to school. The text also stated Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard, Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel This basic is an example of a boy that made the choices to attend school and lack discipline, therefore he became a something positive in life due to his choice. ... Where you will have your desire, your daughter, to comfort your sorrow as each year is accomplished and bitter winter is ended. For a third part only the kingdom of darkness shall hold her. • 35. Commercials Of Kobe Bryant Did you see that man Kobe Bryant last night? He put the team on his back! This is what everyone at school was saying during the 2009 NBA finals. At the time I was in the seventh grade and had no idea what was going on, although it interested me since all my friends knew about this event. After school that day, I saw a commercial on ESPN advertising all basketball fans to watch, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Orlando Magic tonight at 6 pm. The commercial informed me with the following information, it was Game 5 of a 7 game series and the Lakers were up 3 1 and the Lakers needed to win one more game to become a 16 time NBA Championship franchise. Kobe Bryant was the team captain who lead his team into the finals and averaged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The commercials reeled in my attention and did not give any room for other distractions. Watching Kobe Bryant s story influenced me to become just like him. Basketball has impacted me in a positive way in terms of academics because without it, I would have been an average student just getting by in the class. Before basketball I was nowhere near the smartest student in my classes and after not making my eighth grade basketball team that motivated me to assign my education as the highest priority so that I could play basketball. I ended up playing basketball all four years in high school and averaged a 4.0 academically with perfect attendance. It s a humbling experience how the conversations at school and the first basketball commercial I watched about the NBA finals lead me to play a sport that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Comparing The Nervous System And Endocrine System The nervous system and endocrine system work together to influence the behavior of humans. While the nervous system is a fast acting one, the endocrine system is a slow acting one that has a lasting effect. Growth Reproduction Metabolism Without the endocrine system there to help the nervous system maintain homeostasis none of the three things listed would be possible. The functions of the two systems together are quite amazing. Within the peripheral nervous system (PNS) is the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is divided into the sympathetic or activating nervous system and the parasympathetic or calming nervous system. Both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are activated by glands and organs within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a lot going on in the picture, but I chose it because the day this was taken was a great day for me. The picture makes me feel happy, because the day was beautiful, fun, and full of funny things. My mother took us to the Outlets for school shopping. I enjoyed that because I like school shopping, even though I do not like the beginning of school. Bath and Body Works is my favorite store at the outlets because I love all the smells and colors. The smells and colors are made by people with a very prestigious job. They are called perfumers, and they use chemistry to make perfume, lotion, shampoo, and body wash. There are two types of perfuming: Fine fragrance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lady in the center of the picture has a bad tempered look on her face, and has her arms crossed. Toward the picture s right side, there are pumpkins of assorted shapes and sizes. The pumpkins are candle holders, and of course, they hold pumpkin scented candles. The smell of the candles reminds me of Thanksgiving, and pumpkin pie with cinnamon. Some of the pumpkin shaped candle holders feel almost like real pumpkins, even though I know they are made of Styrofoam or metal. When this picture was taken, it was the day before Labor Day, and there were a lot of people at Bath and Body Works trying to catch a bargain. You can also see many fall decorations in the picture. There are artificial leaves hanging in the right corner of the picture. The leaves look like they could be a part of a real tree. They are in mid transition between green and colors like brown and red. Like I have previously mentioned, there are a substantial amount of pumpkins in the picture that make you think of fall. Fall is my favorite time of the year because there are so many colors, and the trees lose their leaves. If you walk on the sidewalk during fall, the leaves will crunch underneath your feet as you walk. I also like fall because my birthday is October, and Halloween takes place. Bath and Body Works even makes Halloween themed hand sanitizers, soaps, and lotions. The history of perfume is shocking and very interesting. In ancient Chinese, Palestine, and ...
